- 0:50SPEAKER_08: Hello and welcome to the Overclocked Podcast, the best source for OC remix news and updates that you can listen to while finding all seven Chaos Emeralds.
- 0:58SPEAKER_08: This is episode number four, which is also the number of Sega 32X games that are worth playing.
- 1:04SPEAKER_08: That track you just heard was Arcadian Assault from Skies of Arcadia by FX Snowy.
- 1:09SPEAKER_08: My name is Zack with an exclamation point, and I am a Sega guy.
- 1:14SPEAKER_08: And even more than that, I am a Skies of Arcadia guy.
- 1:17SPEAKER_08: I can pretty confidently say that Skies is my all-time favorite game.
- 1:22SPEAKER_08: I think it's the absolute pinnacle of what the JRPG genre had become by the end of the 90s.
- 1:28SPEAKER_08: Within the next few years, the genre would have a bit of a shake-up and start playing with the conventions a little more as the PlayStation 2 hit the scene.
- 1:35SPEAKER_08: We had a bit of a decline in popularity over the next couple of console generations, but now it seems turn-based JRPGs are starting to turn it around and be popular again.
- 1:45SPEAKER_08: I'm pretty stoked.
- 1:47SPEAKER_08: I do wonder if Squeenix will get the memo in time for Final Fantasy XVII, though.
- 1:51SPEAKER_08: Aw yeah, this is what's happening.
- 1:54SPEAKER_08: It's time for the news as of mid-March when I'm writing this.
- 2:18SPEAKER_08: Congratulations, Trait, and we look forward to all the wisdom you will bestow.
- 2:23SPEAKER_08: Twin mages Palum and Purim have- Wait, wrong note.
- 2:27SPEAKER_08: Twin sages Pixelceph and Paradiddles Josh have been class-changed into judges.
- 2:32SPEAKER_08: The Judge Skilltree gives them access to the yes and no spells.
- 2:37SPEAKER_08: JayN Wake has also joined OCR staff as a judge, but I don't have a pithy joke about that.
- 2:42SPEAKER_08: Now it's time to do the mash.
- 2:44SPEAKER_08: It's a VGM Smash.
- 2:46SPEAKER_08: It's an Etrion Odyssey Clash with some Streets of Rage Flash.
- 2:51SPEAKER_08: That's right, GameSet Mash 3 is coming soon to some ear holes near you, set to start on March 21st and mashing up the music of two different Yuzo Koshiro series.
- 3:02SPEAKER_08: We have the turn-based map-making dungeon crawler Etrion Odyssey in one corner, lovely music from that series.
- 3:09SPEAKER_08: Dungeon music goes from relaxing to atmospheric to oppressive, and the battle themes are Koshiro flexing his best 90s JRPG rock muscles.
- 3:18SPEAKER_08: As a bonus, the first three games feature the YM2608 chip that was used in the PC98, and is incredibly nostalgic to a certain segment of Japanese Gamer.
- 3:29SPEAKER_08: As an American, it doesn't sound too different to me from the YM2612 used in the Sega Genesis slash Mega Drive.
- 3:38SPEAKER_08: Looking at the specs of the two, they have pretty similar capabilities.
- 3:42SPEAKER_08: But while we're talking about the YM2612 sound chip, of course the other half of GameSet Match is Streets of Rage, known in Japan as Bare Knuckle.
- 3:53SPEAKER_08: Absolute classic series in terms of both soundtrack and gameplay.
- 3:57SPEAKER_08: It was Sega's answer to Final Fight, and in my opinion, way surpassed Final Fight.
- 4:03SPEAKER_08: Yuzo Koshiro, and starting with Streets of Rage 2, Motohiro Koachima, equipped the first two entries of the game with what yet stands as the danciest club music soundtracks in gaming.
- 4:14SPEAKER_08: I have a small collection of VGM soundtracks on vinyl, and Streets of Rage 1 and 2 are what I spin when I want to get the party started.
- 4:22SPEAKER_08: The third game score has a bit of a mixed reputation owing to its reliance on procedurally generated elements.
- 4:29SPEAKER_08: I don't hate it, but I don't love it either, and I'm interested in hearing if any of our mashers are up to the challenge it presents.
- 4:36SPEAKER_08: Our last bit of news is that GaryO has assured us that the Luffia 2 album is still on the way, and more than that, it will be worth the wait.
- 4:44SPEAKER_08: I know some of you are anxious for this long-awaited album, but as for yours truly, it gives me a little bit more time to become acquainted with the original soundtrack before diving in.
- 8:05SPEAKER_08: I've mentioned before on the pod that most of my reference points for music are video game music because I'm a nerd.
- 8:11SPEAKER_08: And so while the mix post throws around terms like New Jack Swing and adult contemporary jazz fusion, what I hear is Sonic Team sometime between 1994 and 1999.
- 8:25SPEAKER_08: This wouldn't be too out of place in Knights, Burning Rangers, or even Sonic Adventure.
- 8:30SPEAKER_08: I could hear it as like a ending credits or chapter close theme.
- 8:35SPEAKER_08: Of course it's not that, it's a 2025 take on a 2005 Nintendo DS game.
- 8:42SPEAKER_08: One that was somehow completed in just four days?
- 8:46SPEAKER_08: Eminator got a crew together for last August's Dwelling of Duels competition right before the deadline.
- 9:20SPEAKER_08: One place per day.
- 9:24SPEAKER_08: Keyboard bits that remind me of nights, little melodic interludes that remind me of 90s anime, and what a perfectly placed guitar solo to bring it all home.
- 9:34SPEAKER_08: This is a great track.
- 9:35SPEAKER_08: I wonder what this crew could do with more than four days.
- 9:38SPEAKER_08: Eminator brought us keys and overall arrangement in production.
- 9:42SPEAKER_08: Big Ron plays the organ.
- 9:43SPEAKER_08: Chimpzilla is responsible for vocal chops.
- 9:47SPEAKER_08: Flex style jumped on the mix with the funky beats.
- 9:50SPEAKER_08: Jay and Wake gave us more piano and some synth bass.
- 9:53SPEAKER_08: Ocean's Andrew did the guitar solo, and I hope you liked it because you're gonna hear a lot more.
- 10:02SPEAKER_08: It's a double dose of the ocean remixes.
- 13:56SPEAKER_08: There's something vaguely Mitsuda about it, which is absolutely a compliment.
- 14:01SPEAKER_08: Reminds me of a cutscene track from Chrono Cross or one of the Xeno games he worked on.
- 14:05SPEAKER_08: My only beef?
- 14:06SPEAKER_08: Too short! At four minutes long, I feel like I have so much more cutscene to go.
- 14:12SPEAKER_08: The rock elements almost feel like a sideshow here.
- 14:15SPEAKER_08: The rocking guitar gives way to this sincere piano and orchestra section that just feels like the real emotional core of the remix.
- 14:26SPEAKER_08: Maybe I should have given Genshin in back at some playtime.
- 14:29SPEAKER_08: Well, I got another track to make up my mind.
- 14:32SPEAKER_08: Still Genshin?
- 14:33SPEAKER_08: Still Oceans Andrew, now it's digital samsara.
- 17:44SPEAKER_08: Samsara refers to the cycle of death and rebirth in the various belief systems from the Indian subcontinent.
- 17:51SPEAKER_08: A lovely title for a lovely piece.
- 17:53SPEAKER_08: This couldn't be more different from the previous track.
- 17:56SPEAKER_08: This has a much more upbeat vibe.
- 17:59SPEAKER_08: The guitar work here is just as good as in Thunderbird Rising, but instead of hard rock impact, Andrew is going for melodic sweetness.
- 18:07SPEAKER_08: The guitar carries the melody through the whole track with some perfect synths supporting it, and an instrument I couldn't identify, but the mix post identifies as a dulcimer.
- 18:18SPEAKER_08: What a sweet sound.
- 18:20SPEAKER_08: Perfect for this piece.
- 18:21SPEAKER_08: This is apparently two different tracks that Andrew thought would work well together, and yeah, they'd work well together.
- 18:29SPEAKER_08: In fact, if I hadn't read the mix post, I'd never have known.
- 18:32SPEAKER_08: I couldn't tell you where one source track ends and the other starts.
- 18:36SPEAKER_08: Oh no! We have to move on! The man PF, the Colorado Weeks, Connor Engstrom, and Zach Chapman have brought us a track from Kirby and the Forgotten Land.
- 18:58SPEAKER_05: Stranger Island Ready to go.
- 20:01SPEAKER_01: You feel full of mystery.
- 20:09SPEAKER_01: So much just in the day, oh yeah.
- 20:32SPEAKER_02: Take you to the field.
- 20:47SPEAKER_05: Don't be afraid, face your fears, and you'll hung the tension build, punch ahead on this really tall.
- 22:46SPEAKER_08: My concept of this arrangement, World of Pink, is a rose-tinted world, a happy place where you can go in your mind whenever you feel exhausted from the outside world.
- 22:55SPEAKER_08: You go there and you have a happy time.
- 22:58SPEAKER_08: You can relax and enjoy.
- 22:59SPEAKER_08: Everything is perfect, you don't have to worry about anything.
- 23:03SPEAKER_08: That's how the Man PF describes this piece.
- 23:06SPEAKER_08: And yeah, what a wonderful adventure.
- 23:09SPEAKER_08: As for the remix itself, I really like this trend of Nintendo games incorporating a vocal song into it.
- 23:14SPEAKER_08: This is a remix of the opening theme that plays when Kirby has swallowed a car and is driving off to start a new adventure in the Forgotten Land.
- 23:23SPEAKER_08: The song then gets brought back to use as the ending theme, a really nice way to bookend it.
- 23:28SPEAKER_08: This track takes the original catchy Japanese pop rock track and reimagines it with a slower, sweeter arrangement.
- 23:35SPEAKER_08: Let's let's go on an adventure! And more, let's look back on this adventure we just had.
- 23:41SPEAKER_08: More of a ballad.
- 23:42SPEAKER_08: Frankly, this version makes for a way better ending theme than the original did.
- 23:47SPEAKER_08: It sounds like the end of summer.
- 23:49SPEAKER_08: Love the music box fade out at the end, too.
- 23:52SPEAKER_08: Perfect ending credits touch.
- 23:54SPEAKER_08: I want to call out that this was yet another dwelling of duels track from Halli Month last March.
- 24:00SPEAKER_08: The same month that brought us Mind Lost in the Program.
- 24:03SPEAKER_08: Connor lent his acoustic guitar traps and Zach contributed to the bass, and I'd be remiss not to call out Colorado Week's incredibly sweet vocals.
- 25:26SPEAKER_06: In a flash of life, a love can go right.
- 25:32SPEAKER_06: Let me take you high Fulfill your desire.
- 26:14SPEAKER_06: And finance but you got on Hush and only grass only trying.
- 29:03SPEAKER_06: Ornament compliment Him and Granger Amon.
- 29:10SPEAKER_08: I want to hang out in the lounge at the top of Shinger HQ.
- 29:14SPEAKER_08: If this is the kind of music they do up there, wow, what a classy place.
- 29:18SPEAKER_08: I never got far enough in Final Fantasy VII remake to hear this source too.
- 29:23SPEAKER_08: I'm thinking that was a mistake if it's half as good as this.
- 29:26SPEAKER_08: The piano, the violin, the vocals, that's sacks! Man, it is incredible what they're doing with remixes these days.
- 29:35SPEAKER_08: The man PF mentions looking out the highest window in Midgar with this playing in the background.
- 29:41SPEAKER_08: Last time I was in Tokyo, I managed to stay one night, just one night, in an incredibly swanky hotel with a lounge on the top floor, and yeah, same vibes.
- 29:52SPEAKER_08: The mix post, of course, credits the dazzling array of musicians that collaborated here.
- 29:57SPEAKER_08: Jay and Wake on piano, Kev on drums, Michelle on vocals, Numa Joe putting his soul into that sack, Ronan on the violin, and Andre Beller on an honest to God upright bass.
- 30:11SPEAKER_08: The man PF put it all together with some guitar and backing vocals and wrote the entire second verse.
- 30:17SPEAKER_08: That wasn't in the game.
- 30:18SPEAKER_08: This, of course, was another Dwelling of Duels track from Final Fantasy Month, November 2023.
- 30:24SPEAKER_08: The rules to DOD are that the main instrument must be played live, but the man PF went above and beyond because every single part of this was played live.
- 30:34SPEAKER_08: How the heck did this only get sixth place?
- 30:38SPEAKER_08: No way! I can't believe this! It's DJ Mockram coming at us with a hot, hot, hot Final Fantasy VIII remax.
- 30:46SPEAKER_08: That means drifting memory, apparently.
- 32:48SPEAKER_08: This is a resub that DJ Mockram has been polishing since Seeds of Pandora, and I'm glad for it.
- 32:54SPEAKER_08: This takes source tunes from Final Fantasy VIII and reworks them with traditional East Asian instrumentation because, and I quote, Elion's bodyguards have always looked like Shinobi straight out of Wu-tai.
- 33:07SPEAKER_08: And yeah, they do.
- 33:09SPEAKER_08: So you just heard four different taiko drums, two tablas, Shami-sen, Shakahchi, Koto, and Guchin.
- 33:18SPEAKER_08: It's a little hard to pick out the original melody, but that's probably on me.
- 33:23SPEAKER_08: Final Fantasy VIII is not exactly my favorite FF, and I profess that I don't have the kind of familiarity with its soundtrack that I do the other games.
- 33:31SPEAKER_08: What I did pick out is the little snippet of the prelude, played in a traditional Japanese scale, which thanks to the mix post I now know is called the Hira Joshi Scale.
- 33:41SPEAKER_08: This podcast is pretty educational.
- 33:44SPEAKER_08: The drum work is exquisite, and it would have to be with all those drums.
- 33:48SPEAKER_08: I particularly like both the main melody picked out on one of the string instruments as well as the backing strings.
- 33:55SPEAKER_08: The wind instruments are mostly used for texture here, but they really bring the remix together.
- 34:00SPEAKER_08: It would feel a bit too empty without them.
- 34:03SPEAKER_08: Better pick up the phone, because next we have Terra Calls from Final Fantasy IX by Rebecca E.
- 34:08SPEAKER_08: Tripp.
- 37:37SPEAKER_08: A reasonable assumption, given that the Final Fantasy VI version of Terra is in fact one of the most remixed songs on OCR, number four, just after Zelda's lullaby, with 29 remixes.
- 37:50SPEAKER_08: Then of course I heard the iconic opening cinematic melody of FF9, which Terra borrows and expands and put two and two together.
- 37:59SPEAKER_08: Rebecca took the original, somewhat sparse, primarily harp and woodwind arrangement, expands it out to a fuller orchestral treatment.
- 38:07SPEAKER_08: The harp is still there in the back, propping up the reeded wind instruments, but it's also backed up by the swells of a string section.
- 38:15SPEAKER_08: One by one, more instruments invite themselves to the party, with some bass and flute picking up some background responsibility, and the readed woodwinds trading off with some horn or another to carry the melody.
- 38:26SPEAKER_08: The violins eventually pick up the melody too, with ethereal, wordless female vocals propping them up.
- 38:32SPEAKER_08: The bells get a turn too! Everybody gets a piece of the melody, and the way the instruments trade off keeps the piece interesting, which Hemophiliac also calls out.
- 38:41SPEAKER_08: It's a fuller arrangement, but still manages to preserve the mysterious feeling of the original while bringing some more.
- 43:29SPEAKER_08: Super chillax, with a hint of menace present from the original.
- 43:33SPEAKER_08: Emmunator describes it as lush and moody.
- 43:37SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it is all of those things.
- 43:39SPEAKER_08: I'm not exactly a connoisseur of the lo fi genre, so I'm not sure how well this fits in with the conventions, but regardless of what label you slap on it, this is some groovy electronica.
- 43:50SPEAKER_08: I love how sparse it starts out, and how slowly it fills out as the remix proceeds.
- 43:56SPEAKER_08: I also appreciate any piece that uses unconventional samples as per colour.
- 44:00SPEAKER_08: And then water dropping sound.
- 44:02SPEAKER_08: Perfect.
- 44:03SPEAKER_08: By the time I got into Shinobi, Shinobi 3 was already out.
- 44:07SPEAKER_08: So I confess I haven't really gone back to enjoy the original game.
- 44:11SPEAKER_08: It's certainly not the arcade version.
- 44:13SPEAKER_08: Clearly, I'm missing out if it inspires this kind of remix.
- 44:17SPEAKER_08: So time for pretty much the opposite of what you just listened to.
- 44:20SPEAKER_08: CJ the music dude gets a little weird with it in Zombie Chicken from Contra Hardcore.
- 46:09SPEAKER_01: Some kind of super ass sound is Let's talk samples.
- 46:18SPEAKER_08: I definitely hear some Gunstar Heroes boss noises.
- 46:22SPEAKER_08: I can't identify all the vocal samples, but I think at least a couple of them are from a Game Boy Advance Warrior game.
- 46:29SPEAKER_08: Hemophiliac helpfully identifies one more as being from Game of Thrones.
- 46:33SPEAKER_08: What a weird and funky remix.
- 46:35SPEAKER_08: I love it.
- 46:36SPEAKER_08: It helps also that CJ obviously has good taste in Contra because he chose the best one to remix.
- 46:42SPEAKER_08: Although I should mention there is another Source Tune in the mix, but it's from a game I haven't played.
- 46:48SPEAKER_08: But if you have played Out of This World, or another world everywhere besides North America, I guess you get to enjoy that too.
- 46:55SPEAKER_08: The last time we heard from CJ was back in December with a remix from Skitchen.
- 47:00SPEAKER_08: And here he is again with another Skitchy mix.
- 47:03SPEAKER_08: Which is great.
- 47:04SPEAKER_08: He mentioned that he wasn't sure if he wanted to keep doing the remix thing, and I'm glad he decided to keep adding.
- 47:09SPEAKER_08: Next up, we're gonna try to shoot a hole into the surface of Z.
- 47:13SPEAKER_08: Which is pronunciation because I'm cool.
- 47:24SPEAKER_08: That is the next remix from Super Metroid.
- 49:59SPEAKER_08: Trait did the overall arrangement, Violent was on the synths, Pixels and Paradiddles handled guitar and drums respectively, Colorado Weeks contributed vocals, and vocal samples are Varya's fault.
- 50:10SPEAKER_08: As for the mix itself, I will be modding this into Doom 2016 next time I replay it.
- 50:16SPEAKER_08: It's really got that Argent Metal feel to it.
- 50:46SPEAKER_08: Team Whip here has given us a super Metroid mashup with a little bit of Symphony of the Night.
- 50:51SPEAKER_08: The Metroid definitely comes across more strongly, but I'm fine with that.
- 50:59SPEAKER_08: By the end of the mix, the heavy guitar and bass works its way to this incredibly hardcore EDM work from Violent.
- 51:06SPEAKER_08: Wow, what a way to close things out.
- 51:08SPEAKER_08: Exactly the change of pace we work in more with the dragon.
- 51:12SPEAKER_08: Reworking with Dragon Wake is gonna twiddle some dictionary settings for the next remix.
- 53:58SPEAKER_08: Well, I would ask one to pull up the Pictionary page on OCRemix.org and now have one's eye casually wander over to the composer field.
- 54:07SPEAKER_08: Yeah, that's right.
- 54:08SPEAKER_08: This is a Tim Fallen score.
- 54:10SPEAKER_08: The Fallen Brothers have been a bit of a meme in VGM for a while now, just for putting 110% into every single track.
- 54:18SPEAKER_08: Doesn't matter what game it's for.
- 54:20SPEAKER_08: It was just Pictionary, Tim.
- 54:23SPEAKER_08: You listen to a Tim Fallen score, you're getting some incredibly proggy goodness and more 16th notes than you can handle.
- 54:30SPEAKER_08: JN Wake delivers by really putting the stank on the title track.
- 54:34SPEAKER_08: Oh those synths.
- 54:36SPEAKER_08: And this was a DOD track, so in fact, those synths were performed, not programmed.
- 54:41SPEAKER_08: And also, it was the winning DOD track from April 2024.
- 54:46SPEAKER_08: Congrats on the win! I love the mix of juicy prog synth lead with Enias Square Waves playing the role of rhythm guitar.
- 54:54SPEAKER_08: Sounds so fallen.
- 54:56SPEAKER_08: It was just Pictionary, JN Wake.
- 55:00SPEAKER_08: We've got a Bubsy remix up next.
- 55:02SPEAKER_08: Furry beat by Blaze, or maybe Belaze.
- 55:07SPEAKER_08: What could possibly go wrong?
- 55:10SPEAKER_07: What could possibly go wrong?
- 57:22SPEAKER_08: This is the first Bubsy mix on OCR.
- 57:24SPEAKER_08: Like, Bubsy's not a great game, but everyone played it.
- 57:28SPEAKER_08: It was basically laser-targeted at the kind of kid who was renting a game, but all the copies of A-tier games had all been rented out already.
- 57:36SPEAKER_08: Star Fox all snapped up?
- 57:38SPEAKER_08: Looks like you're trying out Bubsy.
- 57:40SPEAKER_08: Also surprising?
- 57:41SPEAKER_08: I haven't played this game in 30 years, and the melody and vocal samples are still firmly lodged in my brain.
- 57:49SPEAKER_08: This is just catchy, bouncy electronica.
- 57:52SPEAKER_08: I've mentioned in the past that most of my exposure to this genre has in fact been through OC Remix itself, and this fits right in.
- 58:00SPEAKER_08: Makes me nostalgic for the early days on the site.
- 58:03SPEAKER_08: I want to emphasize, I mean that in a good way.
- 58:06SPEAKER_08: The level of quality has gone up over the years, but stylistically, this really hits that same place.
- 58:12SPEAKER_08: While we're hanging out in the early 90s anyway, let's go check in on one of my favorite Genesis games.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_00: We got sick flowing and up it won't be up.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_00: You're called controversy out there, house will never see my drive score.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_00: Genesis, how do I do what this is for thread?
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_00: I can check the DNA, but I'm a lousy geneticist.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_00: Buddy the way, yeah, must be sad.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_00: Your runs are so funny.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_00: Gotta call it high genesis.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_00: It's just the emphasis, I'm like you such an edifice, but intelligence to meant the for the evidence.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_00: But if I said this, we gotta catch it, I gotta chorus.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_00: Let me introduce me as a bitch.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_00: Just don't know what we're doing.
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_00: We like to know because we built up is just can't hear what we're saying.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_08: Zach Chapman is responsible for arrangement and bass.
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_08: The man PF brought us guitar.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_08: Noobajo played some funky sacks and also contributed the vocals, beatboxing, and percussion.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_08: Ian Martin knows how to lay down some funky keyboard licks.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_08: Ronan OPF rounds it out with even more percussion.
- 1:03:39SPEAKER_08: And yeah, this was another Dwelling of Duels mix from the Sega Genesis slash Mega Drive month.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_08: Decent length, too, with everyone given some time to shine.
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_08: We got some incredible dueling Saxon guitar, and the vocals are fun as heck.
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_08: The mixed post already calls it out, but I want to call out the bass because I mean, it's Toe Jamin' Earl, the game is like half bass, and the other half is co-op roguelike.
- 1:04:05SPEAKER_08: Truly a one-of-a-kind console experience.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_08: If you haven't played it, go check it out.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_08: I try not to rely on Deus Ex Machina to fill plot holes on this podcast, but I'm going to bring you A God from the Machine by Chimpzilla, Emmunator, and PixelCeth from Super Metroid.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_08: This has exactly the kind of chill grooves I was creating.
- 1:08:45SPEAKER_08: Or at least it starts that way.
- 1:08:48SPEAKER_08: But then you look up and you have wandered right into drum and bass territory.
- 1:08:52SPEAKER_08: Love the switch-up.
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_08: The chill at the start really establishes that Brinstar groove, the D B section then just gets to play around with it.
- 1:09:01SPEAKER_08: Then Pixelceph breaks out his guitar at the party, and yeah, we really have a party going.
- 1:09:07SPEAKER_08: The Princecar theme is another one of the top ten most remixed source tunes on OCR, but it works well with this kind of arrangement.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_08: Or honestly, any kind of arrangement.
- 1:09:15SPEAKER_08: Brinstar is just a versatile theme.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_08: But I'm glad we got this arrangement.
- 1:09:21SPEAKER_08: Let's get a little fancy now.
- 1:11:37SPEAKER_08: Welcome, Composer! Well, newcomer to overclock remix at least.
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_08: But obviously not a newcomer to music.
- 1:11:50SPEAKER_08: All of this is rearranging of these.
- 1:16:00SPEAKER_08: Great description from the creator.
- 1:16:02SPEAKER_08: Speaking of, I want to call out that she has a new album out now.
- 1:16:06SPEAKER_08: Liminal Echoes, a string tribute to Chrono Trigger.
- 1:16:09SPEAKER_08: Go check it out.
- 1:16:17SPEAKER_08: I don't even know how to say some of these letters.
- 1:16:25SPEAKER_08: Lay your head in the water.
- 1:21:22SPEAKER_08: So I obviously don't know any of the source material, and if you just played this for me, I'd tell you it's Sigaros.
- 1:21:28SPEAKER_08: It's obviously Sigaros.
- 1:21:30SPEAKER_08: No one else could capture their style so effortlessly.
- 1:21:33SPEAKER_08: Wait, hang on.
- 1:21:34SPEAKER_08: I'm getting word that their style was in fact effortlessly captured by Ergosonic on acoustic guitar, Pixelceph on other guitar, Paradiddle's Josh on drums, and emmunator on arrangement and everything else.
- 1:21:48SPEAKER_08: The only thing that's missing is the weird, incomprehensible vocals, and honestly, I'm pretty okay with that.
- 1:21:53SPEAKER_08: This is, by the way, yet another Dwelling of Duels track, July 2024, a free month.
- 1:22:00SPEAKER_08: And how is it that this is the second emulator DOD in this podcast that was completed in just four days?
- 1:22:09SPEAKER_08: Emmunator! What's up?
- 1:22:11SPEAKER_08: Hey big guy, hey little guy.
- 1:22:13SPEAKER_08: It's time for a segment.
- 1:23:03SPEAKER_08: A 10-ring bonus to anyone who has caught all the references I've made to a certain Dreamcast launch title.
- 1:23:09SPEAKER_08: So here's the deal with this segment.
- 1:23:12SPEAKER_08: I am tired.
- 1:23:14SPEAKER_08: It has been a pretty crazy month for the work-life balance of your host here, so I'm gonna kick back and take it easy.
- 1:23:21SPEAKER_08: I'm gonna play you guys a handful of my favorite OC remixes back to back to back.
- 1:23:26SPEAKER_08: Think of this as just a little bit of curated OCR radio.
- 1:28:57SPEAKER_08: That first track was Red Barrage Aquarium from Sonic Adventure by Peter Fernandez and featuring Brett Garst, Richard Holliday, Rick Fieraracci, and Shane Gallas.
- 1:29:10SPEAKER_08: You are five of my favorites.
- 1:59:11SPEAKER_08: The first thing we played was the less flavored Katamari medley, Tales from Arctic Katamari Roundabouts, and You and I in Cherry Blossom Season by Star Saltzman.
- 1:59:22SPEAKER_08: After that was Cazador de Recompensas from Metroid by the John Stacy Orchestra.
- 1:59:28SPEAKER_08: After that, we hit the mean streets of the fantasy future with Running the Cyberpunks from Shadowrun by FF Music DJ.
- 1:59:36SPEAKER_08: We swung by the planet Mobius for a little Sonic the Hedgehog 4, Episode 1, with the obsequious heterophobia of Dr.
- 1:59:43SPEAKER_08: Melipham Buttfink by Medio Xavier and featuring Blind.
- 1:59:49SPEAKER_08: Finally, Joanne Turpin gave us Windfish Limbo from The Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening.
- 1:59:56SPEAKER_08: And that does it for today's episode.
- 1:59:58SPEAKER_08: Like usual, if you have something to say, come join us on the OC Remix Discord server or the forums.
- 2:00:04SPEAKER_08: If you want me to shut up and take your money, I appreciate it, but I ask that you direct all contributions towards the Overclocked Remix Patreon.
