- 0:00Speaker 1: Now nine till noon weekday smart simone only on 710
- 0:06Speaker 1: wor well let's turn now to the greatest columnist in
- 0:10Speaker 1: america michael goodwin his columns every sunday and every wednesday
- 0:15Speaker 1: in the new york post uh and you can get
- 0:17Speaker 1: all his columns they're all up on the new york
- 0:19Speaker 1: post website michael goodwin how.
- 0:21Speaker 2: You doing good morning mark thank you hey a great
- 0:24Speaker 2: column yesterday now explain this to me the Democratic socialists
- 0:28Speaker 2: are at war with Mamdani because he's not radical enough
- 0:33Speaker 2: for them? Is that the case?
- 0:35Speaker 3: Yes. I mean, it's amazing, isn't it, that he is
- 0:39Speaker 3: very radical, the most radical mayor in New York history.
- 0:44Speaker 3: And yet, for many of his fellow travelers, he's given in, right?
- 0:50Speaker 3: He's changed his stripes. He's compromised too much, particularly on
- 0:55Speaker 3: the police side. and keeping Jessica Tish as commissioner. And
- 1:01Speaker 3: he's now also accused of being a sellout to the Palestinians.
- 1:07Speaker 3: I mean, this is crazy talk. But I think these
- 1:11Speaker 3: are the sorts of people who are burning down Paris.
- 1:15Speaker 3: So we're lucky we're only getting a fight so far.
- 1:18Speaker 3: But this is the danger of this new left radicalism.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Yeah, the fires, the rioting, the destruction of Paris, of
- 1:26Speaker 2: much of France. What do you think? That'll have some
- 1:29Speaker 2: effect on the midterms. People might realize you don't want
- 1:31Speaker 2: these left-wing crazies in power.
- 1:34Speaker 3: I think it could and it should. I think people
- 1:38Speaker 3: should wake up and look at what these leftists are
- 1:42Speaker 3: really about. They're not really about building a socialist state
- 1:48Speaker 3: so much as they are about tearing down the nation
- 1:51Speaker 3: that exists now. So if you like your health care, right,
- 1:57Speaker 3: you can keep it. That was a big lie. Well,
- 2:00Speaker 3: it's a big lie now, too, that they would change
- 2:04Speaker 3: everything to give the government more power. That's what the
- 2:09Speaker 3: left believes in. It trusts only the power of the state,
- 2:14Speaker 3: not individual liberty. not private power of any kind, not
- 2:20Speaker 3: corporate power, only government power. Now, I think most Americans
- 2:26Speaker 3: are repelled by that idea, yet enough of them are
- 2:30Speaker 3: being hoodwinked that this leftist movement has to be taken seriously.
- 2:36Speaker 3: I mean, Mamdani's election is the clearest example, but many
- 2:42Speaker 3: of the Democrats running in this midterm election are also far, far,
- 2:49Speaker 3: far off the deep end. Yeah.
- 2:53Speaker 2: This whole war on Mamdani, I guess they want him
- 2:55Speaker 2: to get rid of Jessica Tisch. I mean, she's been
- 2:59Speaker 2: a pretty fine police commissioner. Is this just anti-Semitism? Is
- 3:02Speaker 2: that why they want to get.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Rid of her?
- 3:05Speaker 3: I think that's a part of it, Mark. Obviously, she's Jewish.
- 3:10Speaker 3: She often wears a Jewish star and a necklace. and
- 3:15Speaker 3: she made no bones about it. And yet she has
- 3:21Speaker 3: not been commissioner in a way that favors any group
- 3:25Speaker 3: over another. She has been very even-handed, and she has
- 3:29Speaker 3: been fundamentally sound in using the tactics and the knowledge
- 3:36Speaker 3: developed over years of intelligence gathering, you know, under the...
- 3:43Speaker 3: Giuliani years, right? And then the Bloomberg years. So her
- 3:50Speaker 3: real supporters were Ray Kelly and Bill Bratton. Now, that's
- 3:54Speaker 3: quite a lineage. And she is the inheritor of their
- 4:00Speaker 3: police leadership. So she is doing a fine, fine job.
- 4:05Speaker 3: And I think Mamdani would be crazy to fire her
- 4:08Speaker 3: just to give a scalp to the far-left maniacs. Yeah.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Hey, let's talk about Israel. Netanyahu, the election is next week.
- 4:18Speaker 2: It's a week from tomorrow. President Trump came out with
- 4:20Speaker 2: a big endorsement for him. And what do you think?
- 4:23Speaker 2: What do you think will happen in Israel?
- 4:26Speaker 3: You know, I've talked to a lot of people who
- 4:28Speaker 3: know more about this than I do, and nobody seems
- 4:31Speaker 3: to know. Nobody has a firm grasp about which way
- 4:36Speaker 3: it's going. I have some friends who are going back
- 4:38Speaker 3: to vote. Most Americans, I think, who are Israeli citizens
- 4:46Speaker 3: as well, dual citizens, do not like Netanyahu, from my experience.
- 4:53Speaker 3: But there's nobody on the scene who can rival him. So,
- 4:58Speaker 3: for example, there are 10 Muslim Arab seats in the
- 5:03Speaker 3: Knesset out of 120. And the leader of the two parties,
- 5:10Speaker 3: each with five seats, and they have offered, they will
- 5:15Speaker 3: give their 10 votes to any candidate who promises to
- 5:21Speaker 3: create a Palestinian state. And none of the major candidates
- 5:27Speaker 3: have accepted the offer. They know that's a very unpopular
- 5:32Speaker 3: position in Israel, that the creation of a Palestinian state
- 5:37Speaker 3: I mean, where? Who's going to protect? What are the rules?
- 5:42Speaker 3: So they find no takers. So that's the kind of
- 5:46Speaker 3: thing that suggests Netanyahu still has the largest base of
- 5:51Speaker 3: the three main candidates. Yeah.
- 5:55Speaker 2: A great number of people in the U.S. have Israeli citizenship.
- 5:58Speaker 2: They're asking them to fly back to Israel just to vote.
- 6:02Speaker 2: But you're right. A lot of them are flying back
- 6:04Speaker 2: to vote against Netanyahu. And what is the argument against Netanyahu?
- 6:08Speaker 2: Is it just Netanyahu derangement syndrome?
- 6:12Speaker 3: Well, I mean, I think to a certain extent, Mark,
- 6:16Speaker 3: some of it is just exhaustion, fatigue. I mean, he's
- 6:20Speaker 3: been around forever. He's been the prime minister, the longest
- 6:24Speaker 3: serving prime minister ever. Not continuously, but he's like the
- 6:29Speaker 3: rubber ball. You know, you squeeze it and it just
- 6:31Speaker 3: comes back. That's what his career has been. October 7th,
- 6:38Speaker 3: of course, he explained for not being more aware of
- 6:43Speaker 3: what was coming. And then there's the whole issue of
- 6:47Speaker 3: the West Bank, of what's going on. The fact that
- 6:51Speaker 3: he won't really curb that. because his majority depends on
- 6:56Speaker 3: some of those, uh, King makers in his party. So
- 7:00Speaker 3: I think that he has been far from a perfect
- 7:03Speaker 3: prime minister, but it's in my democracy, the only democracy
- 7:08Speaker 3: in the mid East. And so if he wins, it
- 7:11Speaker 3: will be because he is the choice of the free voters.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, you're right. You know, as a, Ed Koch
- 7:20Speaker 2: will tell you, George Pataki will tell you, once you
- 7:23Speaker 2: get into the third or fourth term, a lot of
- 7:25Speaker 2: people start turning on you.
- 7:27Speaker 3: Sure.
- 7:28Speaker 2: It looks like Netanyahu now believes in a one-state solution.
- 7:31Speaker 2: He may be right. We tried that two-state solution, and
- 7:34Speaker 2: look how that ended up.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Right.
- 7:37Speaker 2: What do you think?
- 7:38Speaker 3: Yes. Well, I mean, that's sort of the theme of
- 7:43Speaker 3: a book by David Friedman, who was the American ambassador
- 7:47Speaker 3: during Trump's first term. And He believes that the West
- 7:52Speaker 3: Bank and whatnot should be treated in the same way
- 7:56Speaker 3: that America treats Puerto Rico, for example. The Puerto Ricans
- 8:01Speaker 3: can vote in local elections, but they cannot vote in
- 8:05Speaker 3: the national election. He believes that is a model for
- 8:11Speaker 3: how Israel should handle the West Bank. It should annex it,
- 8:15Speaker 3: but then keep it somehow as a protectorate. rather than
- 8:19Speaker 3: a full-fledged citizenship in the complete way. So it's an
- 8:27Speaker 3: interesting argument, and there are no other good arguments on
- 8:31Speaker 3: the table. So I'm not sure where this ends up.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Well, Michael Goodwin, great column yesterday. Everybody can go read
- 8:38Speaker 2: it if you missed it. It's up on the New
