- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome back to the Richard Sherman podcast. Another great week
- 0:03Speaker 1: of football coming up. We're in week five and you
- 0:06Speaker 1: got the Sherman Bowl. The Seattle Seahawks and the San
- 0:09Speaker 1: Francisco 49ers are playing this week and I know you
- 0:13Speaker 1: guys are here for it. Thank you for always supporting.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Hit that like and sub button if you're new. This
- 0:18Speaker 1: is going to be a great matchup and I can't
- 0:20Speaker 1: wait to talk about it. It's going to be a
- 0:23Speaker 1: good one. And now I know I know what people
- 0:25Speaker 1: are going to say about what happened last year. We're
- 0:28Speaker 1: going to address that.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Richard, it is the Sherman Bowl, and you are not
- 0:36Speaker 2: allowed to pick a 25-25 tie like you have in
- 0:40Speaker 2: years past. It's just not allowed, man. I'm setting the standard,
- 0:44Speaker 2: setting the tone right now. You must declare a winner
- 0:48Speaker 2: before the end of this podcast. Richard, two gladiators are
- 0:52Speaker 2: about to enter the Coliseum on Sunday. One shall come
- 0:56Speaker 2: out victorious. This is a colossal matchup in Seattle. And
- 1:00Speaker 2: Polly Market gives Seattle the edge at 58% likelihood to
- 1:04Speaker 2: win over the red-hot San Francisco 49ers. What do you
- 1:10Speaker 2: expect to see out of this game when these teams
- 1:13Speaker 2: enter Lumen Field on Sunday?
- 1:18Speaker 1: I expect it to be electric. It's going to be electric.
- 1:21Speaker 1: The Seattle Seahawks reigning defending Super Bowl champions at home
- 1:27Speaker 1: coming off a big win against the Chargers, and they
- 1:30Speaker 1: look good. Mitchell Sam Donald starting to find his rhythm,
- 1:33Speaker 1: starting to get, he had an early interception, first play
- 1:36Speaker 1: from scrimmage, threw a ball to other team, shook that off. JSN,
- 1:40Speaker 1: reigning offensive player of the year, looks fantastic. They're finding
- 1:42Speaker 1: ways to get Rashid Shahid involved. That's been great. This
- 1:48Speaker 1: offense is starting to find themselves. This defense continues to
- 1:51Speaker 1: create turnovers. They got six interceptions on a season, got
- 1:54Speaker 1: two more from Justin Herbert the other day. Drake Thomas
- 1:58Speaker 1: got one. They're playing good football. The D-line is starting
- 2:01Speaker 1: to generate a little bit more pressure. They're figuring that
- 2:04Speaker 1: part of it out. Their sack rate is increasing. I
- 2:07Speaker 1: think they're seventh in the league at 8.15 right now.
- 2:14Speaker 1: I love to see how they're playing in the back end.
- 2:16Speaker 1: They're getting a little healthier. It was great to see
- 2:18Speaker 1: Julian Love back in the mix. You could see his
- 2:20Speaker 1: impact immediately. You could see it in the last play
- 2:23Speaker 1: of the game when Uchenna Nwosu Gets the sack. Justin
- 2:26Speaker 1: Herbert was looking for that dig route backside. Julian Love
- 2:29Speaker 1: was right there, ready to poach it. Made Herbert hold
- 2:33Speaker 1: the ball for an extra tick. Sack, forced fumble, game time.
- 2:36Speaker 1: There were so many plays, so many impact plays, whether
- 2:38Speaker 1: you see it on the tape or whether you see
- 2:40Speaker 1: it on the stat sheet from that guy that continue
- 2:42Speaker 1: to show up. Ernest Jones, Ernest Jones had an incredible
- 2:45Speaker 1: impact in this game. and Nick Emanwuri. I mean, what
- 2:49Speaker 1: a godsend. This guy was making plays all over the field.
- 2:51Speaker 1: They were lining him up everywhere. One time I saw
- 2:54Speaker 1: him in a four-point stance at the end going against
- 2:58Speaker 1: Joe Alt, the former top 10 pick, and hit him
- 3:01Speaker 1: with a spin move. Beat him. Beat him for all
- 3:03Speaker 1: intents and purposes. Beat him like he's a pass rusher.
- 3:06Speaker 1: You talk about a Swiss Army knife of a player,
- 3:08Speaker 1: a guy that literally can do and play any position
- 3:11Speaker 1: in this defense. You can put him at the end.
- 3:13Speaker 1: You can put him At D-tackle, you can put him
- 3:15Speaker 1: at middle linebacker. You can put him at safety, corner,
- 3:18Speaker 1: and he can pass. Mitchell, the old booby mouth. This
- 3:21Speaker 1: guy is just a great football player, and that's why
- 3:24Speaker 1: he's the guy that Mike McDonald said was most important
- 3:28Speaker 1: to this defense and makes such a big difference because
- 3:31Speaker 1: no matter where they put him, he's going to make
- 3:34Speaker 1: an impact. And he had a sack in this game.
- 3:36Speaker 1: They used him to cover backs, tight ends. He's going
- 3:38Speaker 1: to factor into this game, no question about it. On
- 3:41Speaker 1: the other side of the coin, The special teams has
- 3:46Speaker 1: been a little up and down. Rashid Shaheed hasn't had
- 3:49Speaker 1: the impact on the special teams that he had last season.
- 3:52Speaker 1: There were a number of big punt returns and kick
- 3:54Speaker 1: returns that he had that really turned the tide in
- 3:56Speaker 1: a couple games. He hasn't had the impact on the
- 3:59Speaker 1: offensive side either that we expected him to have. Yes,
- 4:02Speaker 1: they put him in the backfield. He found his way
- 4:04Speaker 1: to the end zone. That was an incredibly innovative way
- 4:07Speaker 1: to use him. But I'm still wondering why they aren't
- 4:11Speaker 1: able to use him in the passing game in the
- 4:14Speaker 1: way that we thought they would. There are clear and
- 4:17Speaker 1: easy ways to use a speedster like that. He was
- 4:20Speaker 1: getting used. His usage rate in New Orleans was incredibly high.
- 4:24Speaker 1: I mean, he's a guy that can push the ball
- 4:25Speaker 1: down the field, that could stretch the field, that could
- 4:28Speaker 1: take the top off the defense and really open things
- 4:30Speaker 1: up for Jackson Smith and Jigba. And before the season started,
- 4:33Speaker 1: that's the way I thought they would use him. It hasn't.
- 4:36Speaker 1: come to fruition yet, and some of that may have
- 4:38Speaker 1: been Sam Darnold getting hurt, Drew Locke coming in there,
- 4:41Speaker 1: and just a little bit of uncertainty at quarterback for
- 4:44Speaker 1: a quick second, but now Sam Darnold's back, and I'm
- 4:46Speaker 1: still not seeing it. Also, this Seahawks run defense, it
- 4:52Speaker 1: hasn't been terrible, it hasn't been terrible, but they gave
- 4:54Speaker 1: up 147 yards last week to the Chargers, and again,
- 4:59Speaker 1: Mike McDaniel on And Kyle Shanahan has some similarities, especially
- 5:03Speaker 1: in the run game. Kyle is going to watch this
- 5:05Speaker 1: tape and see things that the San Francisco 49ers can
- 5:08Speaker 1: do well against this team if they can move them. Now,
- 5:13Speaker 1: I know the Seattle Seahawks fans are going to say,
- 5:14Speaker 1: this is going to be an easy game. Mitchell, it's
- 5:17Speaker 1: going to be an easy game. They beat them 41-6
- 5:20Speaker 1: in a divisional. They beat them 13-3 last game of
- 5:23Speaker 1: the season. They lost to them first game of the season, 17-13.
- 5:26Speaker 1: But over these three games... The San Francisco 49ers have averaged, what,
- 5:31Speaker 1: about eight, eight and a half points, eight and a
- 5:33Speaker 1: half points a game. That's terrible. So if you're a
- 5:37Speaker 1: Seahawks fan and you believe that, Mitchell, do you think
- 5:39Speaker 1: you're sitting pretty?
- 5:42Speaker 2: I wouldn't be sitting pretty. I got to believe, Richard,
- 5:44Speaker 2: that San Francisco, this is a new team compared to
- 5:47Speaker 2: last year. You know, they had deficiencies down the stretch
- 5:50Speaker 2: last season. They had injuries. This year, sure, they have injuries.
- 5:54Speaker 2: but they're finding a way to overcome them. I mean,
- 5:56Speaker 2: with the addition of Mike Evans, we've already talked about
- 5:58Speaker 2: him a number of times. George Kittle coming back and
- 6:01Speaker 2: defying the odds, tearing his Achilles and running almost 20
- 6:04Speaker 2: miles an hour last week. Listen, I'm a neutral party here.
- 6:09Speaker 2: I like the faithful. I like the 12s. I like
- 6:12Speaker 2: both of you guys. I'm a Detroit Lions fan. I
- 6:14Speaker 2: might be looking for a new fan base to be
- 6:16Speaker 2: a part of if my team keeps down this abysmal path.
- 6:20Speaker 2: But coming into this game as a neutral bystander, I
- 6:24Speaker 2: love what San Francisco is doing. Seattle, the last two weeks,
- 6:30Speaker 2: you guys got beat by the Commanders, and sure, you
- 6:33Speaker 2: got out to an aggressive lead against the Chargers. Reality is,
- 6:36Speaker 2: the game finished a one-score game. My mojo, my momentum,
- 6:41Speaker 2: that meter, is tilted towards the San Francisco 49ers in
- 6:46Speaker 2: this game. Richard, who do you think has the advantage
- 6:51Speaker 2: entering Sunday?
- 6:53Speaker 1: Well, let me go back and continue what I was
- 6:57Speaker 1: getting at because I don't want to just give it
- 6:59Speaker 1: to them that easy. This is too big of a
- 7:01Speaker 1: game for me to just kind of breeze through it.
- 7:03Speaker 1: So I'm going to take my time. I'm going to
- 7:06Speaker 1: run through some stats for you. And I just like
- 7:08Speaker 1: to leave things objective. I don't want to leave it subjective.
- 7:11Speaker 1: It's not my opinion. These are things that both teams
- 7:13Speaker 1: have put on tape. Offensively, points per game, San Francisco
- 7:19Speaker 1: 49ers are– Let's make sure we're accurate because there are
- 7:27Speaker 1: things that are different. They're second at 30.5 points per game.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Seattle Seahawks are 10th with 26.3 yards per game. Total yards,
- 7:39Speaker 1: San Francisco is seventh, Seattle's 13th. Yards per play, 6.8.
- 7:45Speaker 1: San Francisco is first, Seattle is eighth. So relatively close offensively.
- 7:50Speaker 1: And it sounds like, hey, both offenses can score points,
- 7:53Speaker 1: move the ball. But this is where the gap is.
- 7:58Speaker 1: And the things change. The Seattle Seahawks have had a
- 8:03Speaker 1: much tougher time finishing drives, finishing plays, converting third downs.
- 8:09Speaker 1: San Francisco 49ers are the best team in the National
- 8:12Speaker 1: Football League. Number one in conversion rate. They convert 57.5%.
- 8:17Speaker 1: percent of their third downs. You get them to third down,
- 8:21Speaker 1: they're likely converting. And that's because usually Kyle gets them
- 8:24Speaker 1: to manageable third downs because he's going to run the ball.
- 8:27Speaker 1: They're going to be efficient. Brock Purdy is going to
- 8:30Speaker 1: get the ball to the right person in these situations,
- 8:32Speaker 1: and they're going to push the ball down the field
- 8:33Speaker 1: when they need to. But on the flip side, the
- 8:36Speaker 1: Seattle Seahawks are 31st in the league in conversion rate.
- 8:40Speaker 1: They only convert 31 percent of their third downs. That's
- 8:46Speaker 1: an issue. That's a canyon, Mitchell. That's a big disparity.
- 8:51Speaker 1: And I think that's going to have a huge impact
- 8:53Speaker 1: on this game. And then if you go deeper into this,
- 8:57Speaker 1: the red zone, San Francisco 49ers this season, four games in,
- 9:02Speaker 1: have converted 84% of their trips in the red zone.
- 9:06Speaker 1: That's number one in the league by far. On the
- 9:09Speaker 1: flip side, the Seattle Seahawks have converted 56.7. That's 17th
- 9:12Speaker 1: in the league. Again, you're talking about scoring points. You're
- 9:16Speaker 1: talking about finishing drives. You have to be able to
- 9:18Speaker 1: do this, especially in a game like this where the
- 9:21Speaker 1: teams are really evenly matched on a lot of fronts.
- 9:25Speaker 1: I think that obviously what happened last year matters. I mean,
- 9:30Speaker 1: just mentality-wise, mindset-wise, a lot of these guys are the same,
- 9:34Speaker 1: especially on the offensive and defensive lines. The defensive line
- 9:38Speaker 1: for the Seattle Seahawks manhandled this offensive line for the
- 9:42Speaker 1: San Francisco 49ers last year. But the cool thing about
- 9:46Speaker 1: human beings is they have pride. They have pride. You
- 9:49Speaker 1: see that. You feel that. You spend all offseason saying, hey,
- 9:52Speaker 1: I'm never going to let that happen again. These guys
- 9:54Speaker 1: didn't make it to the NFL. These guys haven't played
- 9:56Speaker 1: as well as they have all season long and given
- 9:59Speaker 1: up zero sacks. Their sack percentage is zero right now
- 10:02Speaker 1: for the San Francisco 49ers. Again, number one in the league.
- 10:04Speaker 1: They have not let Brock Purdy get sacked. And obviously
- 10:07Speaker 1: Brock Purdy's legs and his creativity and his elusiveness have
- 10:13Speaker 1: contributed to that as well. But they... have kept him safe,
- 10:19Speaker 1: and I think they are going to take pride in
- 10:21Speaker 1: running the football this game. That's the one weakness that
- 10:24Speaker 1: you could say. If you're a Seahawks fan, there has
- 10:29Speaker 1: been some leaky yardage on the ground, and if the
- 10:33Speaker 1: San Francisco 49ers can run the ball as well as
- 10:35Speaker 1: they have the last few games, and it's been better,
- 10:40Speaker 1: they're sixth in the league at 137 yards per game
- 10:42Speaker 1: on the ground. I think that's going to make the difference.
- 10:47Speaker 1: And then on the flip side, defensively, the Seattle Seahawks
- 10:52Speaker 1: have been really good. They're always good. They're fifth in
- 10:55Speaker 1: points allowed per game. They're first in yards allowed per game,
- 10:59Speaker 1: first in yards per play, first in net passing yards.
- 11:02Speaker 1: This Seattle Seahawks game is still very formidable through the air.
- 11:07Speaker 1: And they're a top 10 rush defense. They're top 11
- 11:09Speaker 1: rush defense. They're 11th in the league at 102 per game.
- 11:17Speaker 1: but there are ways you can get them. And if,
- 11:19Speaker 1: with Julian Love, they're a different secondary. And obviously Kyle
- 11:22Speaker 1: Shanahan knows this. He speaks about Julian Love in the
- 11:25Speaker 1: way that he should be revered. He's an all-pro caliber player,
- 11:29Speaker 1: and I think he finally gets his all-pro nod this year.
- 11:32Speaker 1: But can Brock Purdy finally figure this defense out? Can
- 11:37Speaker 1: he be efficient? Now, this matchup is a much different
- 11:40Speaker 1: matchup than it was last season. You've got to add
- 11:42Speaker 1: in Fred Warner. You've got to add in Dre Greenlaw
- 11:45Speaker 1: back into the equation. two monsters, two monsters, huge difference
- 11:49Speaker 1: makers in this game. You got to enter in a
- 11:52Speaker 1: healthy George Kittle, a healthier Trent Williams. Those guys are
- 11:58Speaker 1: going to make a difference. And if this offensive line,
- 12:00Speaker 1: they're playing like a better unit. They are playing their
- 12:03Speaker 1: best football. So you have to put that into the equation.
- 12:06Speaker 1: With all that said, I think the San Francisco 49ers
- 12:09Speaker 1: find a way to win this game. I think they
- 12:11Speaker 1: find a way to win this game. It's not going
- 12:12Speaker 1: to be a pretty win. It's not going to be
- 12:14Speaker 1: One where you're like, oh my God, we're going to
- 12:16Speaker 1: put this in the Louvre. But I think that Brock
- 12:20Speaker 1: Purdy and the level that he is playing right now,
- 12:22Speaker 1: I think he only has one turnover on the season
- 12:25Speaker 1: and he's amongst the league leaders in touchdown passes, is
- 12:29Speaker 1: going to be the difference. Not that Sam Darnold isn't
- 12:31Speaker 1: playing great football, but he's still kind of finding his
- 12:35Speaker 1: sea legs a little bit after the injury. You know,
- 12:37Speaker 1: he's missed a couple games. He's not four games into
- 12:39Speaker 1: the season. He's only two games into the season or
- 12:41Speaker 1: two in a, or one and a half, whatever you
- 12:44Speaker 1: want to call it, because he played one series of
- 12:47Speaker 1: the New England game, or a couple plays of that series,
- 12:50Speaker 1: and he came back last week against the Commanders, and
- 12:53Speaker 1: he played this game. So two and some change games
- 12:56Speaker 1: into this season, so he's still, you know, finding his rhythm.
- 12:59Speaker 1: I think Brock Purdy is in rhythm. He's playing the
- 13:01Speaker 1: best football of his life. They got Mike Evans, who's
- 13:03Speaker 1: obviously banged up, but they got Deebo Samuel, another guy
- 13:07Speaker 1: that has factored into this series over the history of
- 13:10Speaker 1: the game. Last year, they didn't have these guys. Depot
- 13:14Speaker 1: Samuel has had a factor in these games. He's not
- 13:16Speaker 1: getting 10, 15 touches a game, but when he touches
- 13:19Speaker 1: the football, whether it's in the backfield, in the screen game,
- 13:22Speaker 1: he's making impact, even on the hook and lateral that
- 13:25Speaker 1: they had the other day. He took it 80 yards
- 13:27Speaker 1: for a touchdown, broke a tackle on the way. He's
- 13:30Speaker 1: going to factor into this game. He has factored into
- 13:32Speaker 1: this rivalry over the last couple years. I think the
- 13:35Speaker 1: San Francisco 49ers win this game 24-21. Holy cow.
- 13:44Speaker 2: We have breaking news on the Richard Sherman podcast. Richard
- 13:48Speaker 2: has picked the San Francisco 49ers to beat the Seattle Seahawks.
- 13:52Speaker 2: That's shocking. The other shocking part of this, Richard, is
- 13:55Speaker 2: in my history of sitting down with you and being
- 13:58Speaker 2: able to be a part of this podcast with you,
- 14:00Speaker 2: I cannot remember a singular time that you picked against
- 14:03Speaker 2: the Seattle Seahawks. I'm not going to call you a homer.
- 14:07Speaker 2: I'm just going to call you a very smart man.
- 14:10Speaker 2: You know, obviously, I question you in a lot of
- 14:13Speaker 2: those matchups, but the Seattle Seahawks have been winning and
- 14:16Speaker 2: winning a lot recently. But you're projecting to get knocked
- 14:19Speaker 2: off this weekend. I'm going to join you. I like
- 14:22Speaker 2: the San Francisco 49ers in this one. I think they're
- 14:25Speaker 2: the hotter team. I think they got the old squad
- 14:28Speaker 2: back together with Debo and Kittle and obviously the introduction
- 14:31Speaker 2: of Mike Evans. There's been so many times throughout the
- 14:35Speaker 2: last few years where you wonder, you know, when is
- 14:37Speaker 2: this window open? of championship for the 49ers going to
- 14:42Speaker 2: ultimately close. You know, they had the Trey Lance experiment
- 14:45Speaker 2: go bad. They had to spend a bulk load of
- 14:48Speaker 2: money on guys that were getting injured. And here they are,
- 14:51Speaker 2: you know, arguably the best team in the league. I mean,
- 14:55Speaker 2: certainly they're number one on my power ranks and yours now.
- 14:59Speaker 2: It's remarkable stuff. We'll see how they.
- 15:02Speaker 1: Hold up in Seattle. In mine now. Well, I... I
- 15:06Speaker 1: should have said mine now.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Richard, you've always been ahead of the curve with the 49ers,
- 15:10Speaker 2: just like you were last year with the Seahawks.
- 15:13Speaker 1: And the reason, Mitchell, if it wasn't for that Commanders
- 15:17Speaker 1: game where Marcus Mariota had his way with this defense,
- 15:21Speaker 1: there's no way I would pick the San Francisco 49ers
- 15:24Speaker 1: against this team. But as I've said all year with
- 15:28Speaker 1: my power rankings, for me to move the champs, somebody
- 15:33Speaker 1: got to beat them. And I did not think the
- 15:34Speaker 1: Washington Commanders with a backup quarterback would beat them. But
- 15:37Speaker 1: it showed me some vulnerabilities in that game. And obviously,
- 15:41Speaker 1: they're going to do what they can to fix those things.
- 15:44Speaker 1: But if Marcus Mariota can do that with the receivers
- 15:48Speaker 1: that they had, Diggs and McLaurin, not saying that they're
- 15:53Speaker 1: not great receivers in their own respects, but I feel
- 15:56Speaker 1: like Kyle Shanahan can look at that game and say, hmm.
- 15:59Speaker 1: We have some of those plays. We have some of
- 16:00Speaker 1: those things in our arsenal. Can we do it? Now, again,
- 16:03Speaker 1: the Seattle Seahawks were without Julian Love in that game.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Big deal. Much bigger deal than people give credit. At
- 16:12Speaker 1: the end of the day, the game's played on the field.
- 16:13Speaker 1: The numbers are the numbers. Sometimes people just have your number. Now,
- 16:19Speaker 1: last year, that's what it seemed like. It seemed like
- 16:21Speaker 1: the Seattle Seahawks just had the San Francisco 49ers number.
- 16:24Speaker 1: The San Francisco 49ers couldn't get healthy. They got worse
- 16:27Speaker 1: health-wise as the season progressed. We're going to see. I
- 16:34Speaker 1: just use objective numbers to come to a fair conclusion.
- 16:37Speaker 1: That's what the numbers say, Mitchell. We'll see what the
- 16:39Speaker 1: football says.
- 16:41Speaker 2: You had to be objective in this analysis, my friend,
- 16:43Speaker 2: and I respect it.
- 16:46Speaker 1: I need to tell you about this new prediction market
- 16:48Speaker 1: called Polymarket. It's the best new way to trade in sports.
- 16:53Speaker 2: In the past, if you wanted action on the game,
- 16:56Speaker 2: you put some money in. And if your team was
- 16:59Speaker 2: doing well, and you wanted to cash out, they'd lock
- 17:02Speaker 2: the trade or take a huge fee.
- 17:05Speaker 1: But Polymarket is a prediction market. It's a stock exchange
- 17:09Speaker 1: for sports, buying in and selling out on your terms.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Richard, I've tried them all, and Polymarket is simply the
- 17:16Speaker 2: best prediction market. It's better than DraftKings, it's better than FanDuel, Calshi,
- 17:21Speaker 2: you name it.
- 17:22Speaker 1: And they're so confident that you will never go back
- 17:25Speaker 1: to the other guys that they're giving you a free
- 17:29Speaker 1: $ 25 on your first trade when you deposit just $ 10.
- 17:33Speaker 2: And now they've launched a new feature. It's called Squads,
- 17:36Speaker 2: a group chat where you can see what everyone is
- 17:39Speaker 2: trading on.
- 17:40Speaker 1: So download the Polymarket app today and use the promo
- 17:44Speaker 1: code Sherman when you sign up. That's S-H-E-R-M-A-N to get
- 17:49Speaker 1: $ 25 free after you deposit just $ 10. Richard, we're going
- 17:55Speaker 1: to do something a little bit different this week. For
- 17:57Speaker 1: this segment, it's sponsored by Polymarket. We're going to look
- 18:00Speaker 1: at the top five teams where Tyreek Hill could be headed.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Right now, Polymarket gives the Kansas City Chiefs a 78%
- 18:07Speaker 1: likelihood to land a.
- 18:10Speaker 2: Tyreek Hill, followed by your San Francisco 49ers at 15%,
- 18:13Speaker 2: the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 15%, your Seattle Seahawks at 14%,
- 18:21Speaker 2: and the Minnesota Vikings at 9%. What do you think's
- 18:25Speaker 2: most likely, and what do you think's ultimately the best
- 18:27Speaker 2: fit for Tyreek out of these teams?
- 18:30Speaker 1: Mitchell, he's going to be singing that song. I'm coming home.
- 18:34Speaker 1: I'm coming home. Tell the world I'm coming home. Because
- 18:40Speaker 1: the Kansas City Chiefs just lost Taequann Thornton to a
- 18:44Speaker 1: lower body injury. If they didn't lose him, I would
- 18:46Speaker 1: probably say that percentage goes down substantially because where are
- 18:50Speaker 1: they going to play him? But I think if he
- 18:52Speaker 1: was willing to take a pay cut or a minimum
- 18:54Speaker 1: for any team, it's going to be that team. It's
- 18:56Speaker 1: going to be Andy Reid. It's going to be the
- 18:58Speaker 1: place that drafted him and believed in him in the
- 19:01Speaker 1: first place, a place he had his most successful seasons,
- 19:05Speaker 1: put a ring on his finger. And if you like it,
- 19:07Speaker 1: then you should have put a ring on it, Mitchell.
- 19:09Speaker 1: I think Andy Reid makes the call. I think they've
- 19:11Speaker 1: already had conversations. I would assume if he's healthy, he's
- 19:16Speaker 1: in Kansas City.
- 19:17Speaker 2: Well, as you can see on Polymarket, you can trade
- 19:20Speaker 2: on pretty much everything. And that's the best thing about Polymarket.
- 19:24Speaker 2: It's an alternative to traditional sportsbook that keeps you in
- 19:27Speaker 2: control of your trades. Let's take it to another game
- 19:32Speaker 2: in Dallas. This is a team that It got off
- 19:35Speaker 2: to a slow start this season, but our 2-2, and
- 19:37Speaker 2: their offense just looks dominant right now. CeeDee Lamb with
- 19:40Speaker 2: a huge week last weekend, and they take on the
- 19:43Speaker 2: 0-4 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Richard, you're going to be at
- 19:46Speaker 2: this game in Dallas on Thursday Night Football Live. on
- 19:50Speaker 2: Amazon Prime. Make sure you tune in to watch Richard
- 19:54Speaker 2: and the crew. Dallas and this offense, mainly CeeDee Lamb
- 19:59Speaker 2: and Dak Prescott. They look like they've got something going.
- 20:03Speaker 2: Do you like what you see in Dallas right now?
- 20:05Speaker 1: Do I like what I see in Dallas, Mitchell? It's two-faced.
- 20:09Speaker 1: So I like half of what I see in Dallas.
- 20:11Speaker 1: I like the offense of Cy Mitchell. If I could
- 20:14Speaker 1: turn the TV off when they play defense, I'd be
- 20:17Speaker 1: talking about a Super Bowl contender. But we can't do that.
- 20:22Speaker 1: We can't just turn the game off when they play defense.
- 20:24Speaker 1: And the most concerning part about their defense is they
- 20:30Speaker 1: have guys. They have guys. If you look at the roster,
- 20:35Speaker 1: you say, hey, this defense on paper should be pretty good.
- 20:40Speaker 1: This defense on paper should be top 10. You got
- 20:44Speaker 1: Quentin Williams, you got Rashawn Gary, you got Kenny Clark.
- 20:47Speaker 1: That D-line should be formidable. But then they aren't. And
- 20:53Speaker 1: I'm still kind of waiting for Caleb Downs to have
- 20:56Speaker 1: that real big impact game that I think even the
- 21:02Speaker 1: Dallas Cowboys fans would say, hey, He's had some plays.
- 21:05Speaker 1: He's had some moments here and there. But you're still
- 21:09Speaker 1: waiting for his breakout game where he's just causing turnovers,
- 21:14Speaker 1: really impacting the game in a big way, and you're
- 21:17Speaker 1: feeling his presence. And, you know, he's still a rookie.
- 21:20Speaker 1: So I think it was unfair to put those expectations
- 21:24Speaker 1: on a rookie, but they did it. They did it.
- 21:27Speaker 1: They were speaking like he has just changed his defense.
- 21:29Speaker 1: He's just changed the culture, and he's changed their identities.
- 21:34Speaker 1: And I just haven't seen that on tape. On the
- 21:37Speaker 1: flip side, I mean, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers aren't a
- 21:40Speaker 1: great team. They are not. They're without Baker Mayfield for
- 21:43Speaker 1: the next two to four weeks. He can't even grip
- 21:46Speaker 1: a football right now. They aren't playing great defense. This
- 21:51Speaker 1: defense is hardly recognizable from the Todd Bowles' defenses of
- 21:56Speaker 1: the past that we kind of recognize as a pressure-packed
- 21:59Speaker 1: attacking style. And maybe that has to do with how
- 22:04Speaker 1: bad they're playing offensively. But I don't know. They got
- 22:09Speaker 1: to figure it out. They got to figure it out.
- 22:10Speaker 1: They're 23rd in scoring offense. They're playing Jalen Daniels again
- 22:14Speaker 1: at quarterback, the undrafted rookie out of Kansas. I just
- 22:19Speaker 1: don't see how things are going to improve for them.
- 22:21Speaker 1: Emeka Abuka hasn't looked like the player that he looked
- 22:24Speaker 1: his rookie year before. They haven't, Bucky Irving hasn't looked
- 22:28Speaker 1: like the guy he was last season. So many things,
- 22:31Speaker 1: so many things that they were depending on kind of
- 22:35Speaker 1: being the same and being consistent haven't been. And when
- 22:38Speaker 1: you lose foundational pieces to your team, like the Tampa
- 22:42Speaker 1: Bay Buccaneers, you lose Mike Evans, a guy who is
- 22:46Speaker 1: a walking thousand yard season. Every season for the Tampa
- 22:49Speaker 1: Bay Buccaneers, that's going to factor in. Sure, you got
- 22:52Speaker 1: Chris Godwin, you got Emeka Abuka, but He was the
- 22:56Speaker 1: stabilizing force, and I know he was banged up a
- 22:58Speaker 1: little bit last year. He's always banged up a little bit.
- 23:00Speaker 1: He's banged up now, but he's still a factor on
- 23:04Speaker 1: the field. He's still a guy defenses have to understand
- 23:09Speaker 1: where he is and how they're going to cover him.
- 23:11Speaker 1: You can't say, hey, we got a corner that's going
- 23:13Speaker 1: to guard Mike Evans. You're going to have a long
- 23:14Speaker 1: day as a team, as a defense. And then you
- 23:19Speaker 1: have Levante David, the leader of this defense, the– the
- 23:23Speaker 1: stabilizing force in this defense, and he had been for 13,
- 23:27Speaker 1: 14 years, and now he's gone. And so you have
- 23:32Speaker 1: guys trying to step into shoes that they can't fit,
- 23:34Speaker 1: and you're seeing those holes. You're seeing the lack of
- 23:38Speaker 1: continuity there. You're seeing what the lack of leadership can
- 23:43Speaker 1: do to a team. So, obviously, I think the Dallas Cowboys,
- 23:48Speaker 1: and Polly Market agrees with me. Dallas Cowboys, they believe
- 23:50Speaker 1: Dallas Cowboys have an 81% chance to win this game.
- 23:54Speaker 1: And the way Dak Prescott is playing, I believe that.
- 23:56Speaker 1: He has eight touchdowns, only one interception on the season.
- 23:59Speaker 1: He's thrown for over 1,000 yards. C.D. Lamb, 37 receptions,
- 24:03Speaker 1: 498 yards, four touchdowns. I mean, they threw it to
- 24:05Speaker 1: him early and often last year, I mean, last game.
- 24:08Speaker 1: And he showed up. He had over 180 yards receiving.
- 24:12Speaker 1: I think he had 17 catches. And if they're going
- 24:14Speaker 1: to use him in that way, whether it's in a
- 24:16Speaker 1: screen game, deep down the field, in the intermediate game,
- 24:21Speaker 1: they're going to be a dangerous team. And he doesn't
- 24:23Speaker 1: believe anybody in the league can cover him. And it's
- 24:26Speaker 1: proven to be true so far. So I expect Dallas
- 24:30Speaker 1: to continue to do that, to continue to feed him,
- 24:32Speaker 1: to get George Pickens more involved. Because George Pickens was
- 24:35Speaker 1: really explosive last week. For all the passes that didn't
- 24:38Speaker 1: go to CeeDee Lamb and the ones that went to
- 24:40Speaker 1: George Pickens, he was very productive. Caught a deep post
- 24:43Speaker 1: route against Kamari Lassiter. That was a huge play in
- 24:46Speaker 1: the game. And this was against a good team. And
- 24:50Speaker 1: you saw C.D. Lamb do it against Derek Stingley, Kamari Lassiter,
- 24:54Speaker 1: Kalen Bullock, whoever was out there, Jalen Petrie. And you
- 24:58Speaker 1: got to give them respect for that. Obviously, the Houston
- 25:01Speaker 1: Texans defense hasn't been what we expected them to be
- 25:04Speaker 1: this season. They haven't played as well as we expected,
- 25:07Speaker 1: as anybody expected. And I'm sure they're frustrated with that.
- 25:10Speaker 1: But This Dallas Cowboys offense is as good as any
- 25:14Speaker 1: in the league, but the thing that's holding them back
- 25:16Speaker 1: is a defense that's highly talented, but not as productive
- 25:20Speaker 1: as they need to be. Now, maybe Joey Porter Jr. will,
- 25:23Speaker 1: as he gets more acclimated, as they kind of figure
- 25:28Speaker 1: out how they're going to create a defense around him,
- 25:32Speaker 1: maybe that makes a huge difference in a secondary with
- 25:34Speaker 1: him and Caleb Downs. If Christian Parker can kind of
- 25:37Speaker 1: find a way to let him man up with somebody's
- 25:40Speaker 1: best receiver and create zones around him, maybe create pressure
- 25:43Speaker 1: packages with Caleb Downs and let him get more involved
- 25:47Speaker 1: around the line of scrimmage, maybe things could change. That's
- 25:50Speaker 1: what I would do. But this is a game I
- 25:53Speaker 1: think Dallas can win, and I feel really good about it.
- 25:57Speaker 1: If Tampa Bay wins this game, this would be an
- 25:58Speaker 1: incredible upset.
- 26:00Speaker 2: I agree with you 100%. Give me the Dallas Cowboys
- 26:04Speaker 2: in this one. Now we got to talk about my
- 26:06Speaker 2: Detroit Lions and the game was late and I'm sorry.
- 26:10Speaker 2: I know I probably caught some flack in the comment
- 26:12Speaker 2: section for not commenting on the Lions loss to the
- 26:15Speaker 2: Carolina Panthers, but I'll reserve my comments to now. Richard,
- 26:19Speaker 2: I have been humbled by this team to say the least.
- 26:22Speaker 2: My expectations were very high on the Detroit Lions coming
- 26:25Speaker 2: into the season. I thought 13 and four was very obtainable.
- 26:29Speaker 2: Now I'm questioning whether even eclipsing 500 is possible. This offense,
- 26:34Speaker 2: and I'm going to read a stat to you and
- 26:36Speaker 2: feel free to just comment with your eyes if you want.
- 26:40Speaker 2: Jerry Goff is the first quarterback in NFL history to
- 26:45Speaker 2: have 1,200 plus pass yards and zero turnovers for the
- 26:49Speaker 2: first four games of the season and not to have
- 26:52Speaker 2: a winning record. Richard, that is a wild statistic because
- 26:57Speaker 2: when you look at the other quarterbacks that have did
- 26:59Speaker 2: similar things to this, they all are in that MVP conversation.
- 27:03Speaker 2: A lot of them went on to win the MVP.
- 27:05Speaker 2: So while Jared Goff might be a dark horse MVP candidate,
- 27:09Speaker 2: what is holding this team back? And the glaring issue
- 27:12Speaker 2: here is defense. I mean, when you were talking about
- 27:16Speaker 2: the Seattle Seahawks and their struggles against the run being
- 27:20Speaker 2: 17th in the league, Man, what I would give to
- 27:23Speaker 2: be 17th in the league, Richard. I mean, this Detroit
- 27:26Speaker 2: Lions defense is making every quarterback they go against look
- 27:30Speaker 2: like a first ballot Hall of Famer. They're making every.
- 27:34Speaker 1: I got to stop you because the Seattle Seahawks defense
- 27:37Speaker 1: isn't 17th. They're third down defenses. They're number one in
- 27:40Speaker 1: just about every other category.
- 27:41Speaker 2: Well, fine, fine. Okay, I misspoke there. But I will
- 27:45Speaker 2: take 17th in third down defense or whatever. You get
- 27:49Speaker 2: my point. But, Richard, the Detroit Lions in this defense,
- 27:55Speaker 2: they're making every single quarterback and number one receiving option
- 27:59Speaker 2: look like first ballot Hall of Famers. I mean, you
- 28:01Speaker 2: saw it with Chris Alave week one. You saw it
- 28:04Speaker 2: with the rookie Kenyon Sadiq out of Oregon, almost going
- 28:07Speaker 2: for 100 yards and a score. Geno Smith. And then, obviously,
- 28:11Speaker 2: this past week with Bryce Young and Tedaroa McMillan, who, yes,
- 28:16Speaker 2: you know, he's a first-round pick. at wide receiver, but
- 28:18Speaker 2: really has not performed up to his standards this early
- 28:21Speaker 2: into the season. And here he goes. He's at 150
- 28:24Speaker 2: yards in the first half. I don't even know where
- 28:28Speaker 2: to begin. Calvin Shepard is catching a lot of flack
- 28:33Speaker 2: here in Detroit, and rightfully so. But while the scheme
- 28:37Speaker 2: issue is a big one, the personnel issue is a
- 28:39Speaker 2: bigger one. Brad Holmes was staring down the barrel of
- 28:42Speaker 2: this gun all offseason. I mean, he had no Brian Branch.
- 28:46Speaker 2: He had no Kirby Joseph. Tarion Arnold was in a
- 28:49Speaker 2: situation that is unpredictable, but he was obviously aware of it.
- 28:53Speaker 2: And yet they chose to stay with the guys they
- 28:56Speaker 2: had in their room. From the head coach's mouth, we're good. Richard,
- 29:01Speaker 2: we are not, in fact, good. This team has personnel
- 29:04Speaker 2: and schematic issues. What do you think is the bigger
- 29:07Speaker 2: issue internally for the Detroit Lions in this defense?
- 29:11Speaker 1: Well, again, I got to clarify that again because your
- 29:15Speaker 1: 17th thing just messed me up. They're third in third
- 29:18Speaker 1: down defense, 28% of Seattle Seahawks, one of the best
- 29:21Speaker 1: third down defense. Their offense is 17th in the league
- 29:24Speaker 1: in third down conversions. Clarification, we'd like to get things
- 29:27Speaker 1: right here on the Richard Sherman Podcast. Yes. But to
- 29:32Speaker 1: your point, they don't have the talent, Mitchell. And I think, again,
- 29:35Speaker 1: it's unfortunate. It's more unfortunate luck for Brad Holmes than
- 29:39Speaker 1: anything else. I don't think his draft strategy and his
- 29:43Speaker 1: foresight was off. I think when you draft well and
- 29:48Speaker 1: players that you expect you have in premium positions have
- 29:52Speaker 1: unfortunate circumstances happen to them like you did with Brian
- 29:55Speaker 1: Branch and Kirby Joseph. you can't predict those things. Like you,
- 30:01Speaker 1: you have two of the best safeties in the league.
- 30:03Speaker 1: If they're healthy, you're, you're looking at a great defense,
- 30:06Speaker 1: a great secondary. And even Terry on Arnold, you drafted
- 30:11Speaker 1: a corner. He played solid football. Now, could you have
- 30:14Speaker 1: given them a coordinator that kind of played more to
- 30:16Speaker 1: his strengths?
- 30:17Speaker 2: Sure.
- 30:18Speaker 1: Sure. They're there. They have played a lot more man coverage.
- 30:22Speaker 1: And I think Terry on Arnold is, is well-equipped to play, but,
- 30:28Speaker 1: when you have those injuries and you have those setbacks
- 30:31Speaker 1: and you understand you have a whole offseason to address
- 30:34Speaker 1: them and you understand that, hey, there's a chance Terryon
- 30:36Speaker 1: Arnold has something pending that may force him to miss
- 30:41Speaker 1: a substantial part of the season or, I mean, you know,
- 30:45Speaker 1: not going to speculate on legalities and an ongoing case,
- 30:48Speaker 1: but you have to then maybe overpay and stretch yourself thinner,
- 30:55Speaker 1: you know, with a contingency plan That just kind of
- 30:58Speaker 1: band-aids you over. Until you get to a point where
- 31:01Speaker 1: those guys can return. Where you can get potentially Kirby
- 31:03Speaker 1: Joseph back. Or Brian Branch. Or both. And if you don't.
- 31:09Speaker 1: These are the kind of situations you run into. You're
- 31:11Speaker 1: not equipped. And I'm not sure in the linebacker room.
- 31:13Speaker 1: I know you love these guys. I know you love
- 31:15Speaker 1: Jack Campbell. And these guys are great for the program.
- 31:19Speaker 1: And they're hard working. And they're blue collar. And they
- 31:21Speaker 1: do stuff right. And they're in the right spots. But
- 31:23Speaker 1: this is a different kind of league. Jack Campbell about.
- 31:27Speaker 1: 20 years ago, perfect, perfect kind of guy. But in
- 31:33Speaker 1: this day and age where you got backs that are
- 31:37Speaker 1: really involved in the pass game, you got backs that
- 31:39Speaker 1: are really explosive, you got a back on your team.
- 31:41Speaker 1: I can't imagine Jack Campbell trying to guard their running back.
- 31:46Speaker 1: At that point, you got to understand that's going to
- 31:48Speaker 1: put you in a tough position. And now you've made
- 31:52Speaker 1: some changes on the defensive line. You've done some cool
- 31:55Speaker 1: things on the defensive line. But that's not enough. That's
- 31:58Speaker 1: not enough. When you have a quarterback playing as well
- 32:01Speaker 1: as Jared Goff is, and Jared Goff is the most
- 32:04Speaker 1: underrated quarterback probably in the last 10 years of football,
- 32:08Speaker 1: in the last decade at least, because if you compare
- 32:11Speaker 1: his numbers to any of the guys that you got
- 32:14Speaker 1: high-level respect for, and that goes Josh Allen to Lamar
- 32:19Speaker 1: to Burrow and our guy Brock Purdy, the elites of
- 32:26Speaker 1: the elites. I think his stats would hold– they would
- 32:31Speaker 1: hold their own. They would hold their own. The thing
- 32:33Speaker 1: that has held him back is lack of playoff success.
- 32:37Speaker 1: I think that year where they had the NFC Championship
- 32:41Speaker 1: kind of in the bag, they were up a substantial amount,
- 32:43Speaker 1: that was the year they had to have it. The
- 32:45Speaker 1: next year they go in, they're a top seed, and
- 32:47Speaker 1: the Washington Commanders come into town, and they kind of
- 32:50Speaker 1: struggle in a game where they needed to win that game.
- 32:52Speaker 1: They needed to show, hey, we played well all season.
- 32:55Speaker 1: And we're going to show you guys that we're the
- 32:57Speaker 1: championship team that we've made ourselves out to be all
- 32:59Speaker 1: season and that it didn't end up coming to fruition.
- 33:02Speaker 1: But Jared Goff has produced at a very high level
- 33:05Speaker 1: for a long time. And now he just doesn't have
- 33:08Speaker 1: the defense to support. And that's why we don't call
- 33:12Speaker 1: the Detroit Lions contenders. That's why a number of teams
- 33:15Speaker 1: aren't contenders because they're only half-baked. They have a great
- 33:18Speaker 1: defense with nothing on offense. Or they have a great offense,
- 33:22Speaker 1: top five, top three. with nothing on the defensive side.
- 33:26Speaker 1: The same thing can be said about the Dallas Cowboys,
- 33:28Speaker 1: who we just talked about. And that's the unfortunate part.
- 33:31Speaker 1: I don't see an obvious solution to this situation. Obviously,
- 33:36Speaker 1: people are like, oh, man, we should have got Joey
- 33:38Speaker 1: Porter Jr. I don't know if he saves this team.
- 33:40Speaker 1: I don't know if that move would have saved what's
- 33:42Speaker 1: happening right now for this team. And it's not all
- 33:47Speaker 1: on Kelvin Shepard. You can't put it all on the coordinator.
- 33:50Speaker 1: But the blame spreads pretty evenly to everybody, to players, coaches,
- 33:55Speaker 1: and everybody on that field that is preparing these teams
- 33:59Speaker 1: to play these teams. You can't play this bad on
- 34:01Speaker 1: defense and expect to win in National Football League.
- 34:05Speaker 2: We say all this to just talk about them taking
- 34:07Speaker 2: on the Arizona Cardinals. Now, here's another opportunity for them
- 34:11Speaker 2: to right this ship before they go into the bye week,
- 34:13Speaker 2: you know, and then coming out of the bye week,
- 34:15Speaker 2: they've got two divisional games at home against the Green
- 34:18Speaker 2: Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings. So, If the Lions can
- 34:21Speaker 2: get things right, now is the time to do so. Richard,
- 34:24Speaker 2: they haven't won back-to-back games since this time last year,
- 34:29Speaker 2: which is a wild statistic when you think about the
- 34:32Speaker 2: success they've had over the last three years. So now
- 34:35Speaker 2: is the time the Detroit Lions need to take care
- 34:39Speaker 2: of business. I'm not even going to predict anything with
- 34:41Speaker 2: this one. I'll let you do the talking. I'm way
- 34:44Speaker 2: too biased in Detroit. I got the Lions winning, but
- 34:48Speaker 2: this team hasn't covered a spread all year. So I'm
- 34:51Speaker 2: going to choose to remove myself from giving a score
- 34:54Speaker 2: on this one outside of the Lions winning. What do
- 34:57Speaker 2: you think the outcome will be this Sunday in Arizona?
- 35:01Speaker 1: Well, this is actually a much tougher one to call
- 35:03Speaker 1: for me. Neither team has played well defensively. The Arizona
- 35:08Speaker 1: Cardinals really struggled against the Giants in a game I thought, hey, okay, LeFleur,
- 35:12Speaker 1: you're going to finally get a chance to see a
- 35:14Speaker 1: team that I would say they're pretty evenly matched talent-wise.
- 35:19Speaker 1: What are you going to do with that? But again,
- 35:21Speaker 1: the Giants are coached, really well coached. Jameis Winston, they
- 35:25Speaker 1: created a plan around him. He played good football. You
- 35:28Speaker 1: never know which Jameis you're going to get. They got
- 35:30Speaker 1: a good Jameis against Arizona last week, and they scored
- 35:33Speaker 1: 36 points. And the Arizona Cardinals only scored 24. But again,
- 35:40Speaker 1: Jacoby Brissett against a defense that has struggled mightily. They
- 35:44Speaker 1: have receivers that can get down the field. They have
- 35:46Speaker 1: a running game that could really get going. We know
- 35:48Speaker 1: what Jeremiah Love can be and what he was at
- 35:51Speaker 1: Notre Dame. And he's had some flashes in the National
- 35:54Speaker 1: Football League. But it's hard. It's really hard to give
- 35:59Speaker 1: this defense from Detroit any credit with how they played.
- 36:03Speaker 1: But the Arizona Cardinals defense hasn't played much better. Detroit
- 36:08Speaker 1: has 15 sacks on a season. Arizona only has eight.
- 36:11Speaker 1: And if you give Jared Goff time to dissect your
- 36:15Speaker 1: defense with the receivers, Amin Ra, And the guys they got,
- 36:19Speaker 1: Jamison Williams, Laporta, Jameer Gibbs, I think they obviously they're
- 36:24Speaker 1: going to score a lot of points. So your Detroit Lions,
- 36:27Speaker 1: I think, win this game comfortably. I think they score
- 36:29Speaker 1: 35-plus points. I think the defense has one of their
- 36:33Speaker 1: better showings. They can get after the quarterback. Jacoby Brissett
- 36:36Speaker 1: isn't the most mobile guy. This offensive line has banged
- 36:38Speaker 1: up some. They lost their left tackle, Parrish Johnson. He's
- 36:41Speaker 1: out for the season. Isaiah Adams is out. This game,
- 36:47Speaker 1: whether questionable this game, Jeremiah Love is questionable in this game.
- 36:51Speaker 1: So I think things are working in Detroit's favor for
- 36:55Speaker 1: them to get their second win in a row. Before
- 36:59Speaker 1: we leave this game. No, wait. To get back on
- 37:02Speaker 1: the winning side.
- 37:02Speaker 2: Before we leave this game. I'm going to ask you
- 37:09Speaker 2: to pick one player because it's a foregone conclusion one
- 37:12Speaker 2: of these Arizona Cardinals is due for a breakout game,
- 37:15Speaker 2: especially at wide receiver or a tight end. If you
- 37:18Speaker 2: had to pick one for all the fantasy football lovers
- 37:20Speaker 2: out there, would you go with Trey McBride, your boy
- 37:23Speaker 2: Michael Wilson, Stanford Cardinal, go Trey, or would you go
- 37:28Speaker 2: Marvin Harrison Jr.? Revenge game right here, Richard. He's Ohio
- 37:32Speaker 2: State Buckeye taking on a team from Detroit. Is it
- 37:35Speaker 2: finally time that Marvin Harrison gets things rolling?
- 37:40Speaker 1: No, no, no. I don't think so. I think they
- 37:42Speaker 1: finally find a trade partner for Marvin Harrison Jr. No
- 37:45Speaker 1: offense to him. I mean, it just doesn't seem like
- 37:47Speaker 1: corners have had very, very, very hard times guarding him.
- 37:50Speaker 1: But I think it's Michael Wilson. I'm going with the
- 37:53Speaker 1: Stanford Cardinal. I think it's his time to have a
- 37:55Speaker 1: breakout game, to get over 100 yards, to have a
- 37:58Speaker 1: tremendous impact on this game and a loss.
- 38:02Speaker 2: Okay, let's go to Jacksonville. This team is starting to
- 38:05Speaker 2: look very good. In fact... Breaking news. I've got them
- 38:08Speaker 2: in the top five of my power ranks this week, Richard.
- 38:12Speaker 2: The Jacksonville Jaguars. I like them. And I know I'm
- 38:16Speaker 2: going to jinx myself. I like the Cincinnati Bengals as well,
- 38:19Speaker 2: and they've lost two in a row. But Jacksonville welcomes Philadelphia.
- 38:23Speaker 2: The 2-2 Eagles come to town. What are we in
- 38:27Speaker 2: store for here? Because Philly's got a lot of question
- 38:30Speaker 2: marks internally right now. I mean, this offense doesn't look
- 38:33Speaker 2: the part. I know they were without Devontae Smith last week,
- 38:36Speaker 2: but it's starting to look glaring that they have a
- 38:38Speaker 2: need at wideout without A.J. Brown there. And then you
- 38:41Speaker 2: look at Jacksonville, and you were so right. Look at
- 38:44Speaker 2: Travis Hunter, right? You called it. This guy is not
- 38:48Speaker 2: going to play both sides of the ball. If he should,
- 38:50Speaker 2: he should play a defensive back and a little bit
- 38:53Speaker 2: of gimmick plays at wide receiver. Well, he's settled into DB,
- 38:56Speaker 2: and he's gotten himself pretty comfy there. Who do you
- 38:59Speaker 2: think comes out on top in this matchup?
- 39:04Speaker 1: Polly Market has Jacksonville with a 74% chance to win
- 39:08Speaker 1: this game, and I agree with him. I agree with that.
- 39:10Speaker 1: The Philadelphia Eagles just have too many question marks on offense.
- 39:14Speaker 1: You haven't, especially in that second half of that game,
- 39:17Speaker 1: and if you even watch the entirety of the game
- 39:20Speaker 1: against the Bears, there's nothing that really gives you that
- 39:23Speaker 1: much confidence in this team offensively. I do like with
- 39:31Speaker 1: Saquon out. I mean, you got to think Saquon Barkley
- 39:34Speaker 1: is going to miss this game with a hamstring. I
- 39:36Speaker 1: would assume he went out the last game with a hamstring.
- 39:38Speaker 1: And they're a different team without him in the lineup. Sure,
- 39:43Speaker 1: there are questions at guard for this team. Their offensive
- 39:46Speaker 1: line has consistently been one of the best teams, I mean,
- 39:52Speaker 1: one of the best offensive lines in the National Football League.
- 39:55Speaker 1: But this year, it has not been the case. Jalen
- 39:57Speaker 1: Hurts has been under more pressure. They are awful on
- 40:00Speaker 1: third down, the worst team in the National Football League
- 40:02Speaker 1: on third down, converting third downs. And his Jacksonville defense
- 40:05Speaker 1: is formidable. I don't want to say I told you
- 40:08Speaker 1: so about Travis Hunter. I don't want to say they
- 40:11Speaker 1: made a big deal because I said he'd be one
- 40:13Speaker 1: of the best corners in the National Football League. And
- 40:17Speaker 1: then I said something else about him at receiver, you know,
- 40:20Speaker 1: and they were like, oh, my God, they put it
- 40:21Speaker 1: on shirts, Mitchell. They said, oh, my God, he's so offensive.
- 40:25Speaker 1: What was it? Bland. Yeah, yeah. And I was like, wait, what? Like, bland? Like,
- 40:34Speaker 1: that's what, the round? But I said he would blend.
- 40:38Speaker 1: I said he would blend in. He would just be
- 40:40Speaker 1: another guy. He would not stand out in the way
- 40:43Speaker 1: that he would stand out at corner. And guess what, people?
- 40:45Speaker 1: Ball knower. I know the game. I know players. Right now,
- 40:50Speaker 1: on his team, he'd be the fourth, fifth receiver because
- 40:55Speaker 1: they have guys that play receiver, that have only come
- 40:57Speaker 1: into the National Football League to play receiver, who have
- 41:01Speaker 1: done nothing else during their time, but be professionals at
- 41:05Speaker 1: playing wide receiver. And Jacoby Meyer, Brian Thomas, Parker Washington,
- 41:12Speaker 1: they're the guys. They're the guys on this team. And
- 41:15Speaker 1: that's why they're not wasting time putting him on offense,
- 41:17Speaker 1: trying to get him throws. Because when you're creating an offense,
- 41:21Speaker 1: when you're trying to create a plan going into the season,
- 41:23Speaker 1: you can't be sitting there like, hey, how do we
- 41:26Speaker 1: get this guy the ball if our number one and
- 41:28Speaker 1: number two guys are these guys? And then Brenton Strange,
- 41:32Speaker 1: your tight end, is a guy that needs to factor
- 41:34Speaker 1: into there. And then you got tootin' in the run game,
- 41:37Speaker 1: in the screen game. Like, it's hard to create a
- 41:39Speaker 1: plan for a guy like that. But you know what
- 41:41Speaker 1: you can do? You can let him play defense. And really,
- 41:44Speaker 1: as a rookie, as a young guy, as a second-year player,
- 41:47Speaker 1: start to get his legs under him. Let him stay
- 41:49Speaker 1: out there. Let him continue to get in the rhythm.
- 41:50Speaker 1: And if you need him on offense for a play
- 41:52Speaker 1: or two, you want to get him a screen, you
- 41:54Speaker 1: want to go out to him, throw a post and
- 41:56Speaker 1: see what happens, sure. Put him over there. But don't
- 42:00Speaker 1: waste him. Don't waste. Defense isn't played that way. They're
- 42:04Speaker 1: a very few rotational corners in the National Football League
- 42:07Speaker 1: because that's too hard of a position to say, hey, oh,
- 42:10Speaker 1: this is a big drive in the game. Get in
- 42:11Speaker 1: there and guard their best receiver, even though you haven't
- 42:13Speaker 1: played corner all day. That's not how this works. So
- 42:16Speaker 1: it's great to see them finally playing to Travis Hunter's strengths.
- 42:21Speaker 1: And he looks great. He looks like the all-pro caliber
- 42:24Speaker 1: player that we all knew he could be coming out
- 42:26Speaker 1: of Colorado. He's an incredible athlete with great ball skills,
- 42:30Speaker 1: great IQ, great instincts. Everything you need to be a
- 42:34Speaker 1: great quarterback. And I saw him be physical. There were
- 42:36Speaker 1: a few plays in there, Mitchell, where he put his
- 42:38Speaker 1: shoulder into God. They called a hitch, and he said, fuck,
- 42:41Speaker 1: shoulder into him, guys on the ground. Travis Hunter, physicality,
- 42:46Speaker 1: tackling well. And he had an interception in the game
- 42:48Speaker 1: where they threw the pass up. I think he was
- 42:50Speaker 1: guarding Jamar Chase before Jamar Chase went out with a concussion.
- 42:54Speaker 1: The play ends up getting called back for a rough
- 42:56Speaker 1: in the passer. But great pick, great return, just looks
- 43:00Speaker 1: the part, smooth. as anybody you've seen, smooth as glass,
- 43:03Speaker 1: as Tony Gonzalez would say. And I hope that they
- 43:07Speaker 1: continue to let him thrive on the defensive side of
- 43:09Speaker 1: the football because that's where he should be. He's born
- 43:14Speaker 1: and bred to do it. And sure, he can make
- 43:17Speaker 1: plays offensively. He's great with the football in his hands.
- 43:20Speaker 1: Get the football in his hands and let him make
- 43:21Speaker 1: some plays, but that's not where he's going to butter
- 43:24Speaker 1: his bread. And if they continue to just let him
- 43:28Speaker 1: play defense and let him develop, I think it's going
- 43:30Speaker 1: to be the best decision they could have made, and
- 43:32Speaker 1: I think he'll live up to the number two pick
- 43:34Speaker 1: that they used on him. They traded up for the
- 43:35Speaker 1: number two pick for a reason. I think he's that
- 43:38Speaker 1: good of a corner that it still will make sense.
- 43:41Speaker 1: On the other side, the Philadelphia Eagles defense, it's played solid,
- 43:47Speaker 1: but it hasn't been world beaters. This defense hasn't been
- 43:51Speaker 1: world beaters. They gave up a lot to Matthew Stafford
- 43:53Speaker 1: at the end of that game in the fourth quarter
- 43:55Speaker 1: of that ball game. They were up 20-10 defensively. in
- 43:58Speaker 1: that ball game going into the fourth quarter, and they
- 44:00Speaker 1: let the Rams run back into the game. 14 unanswered
- 44:05Speaker 1: to win that game with a game-winning drive at the end.
- 44:08Speaker 1: And I think the Philadelphia Eagles just, I mean, every year,
- 44:11Speaker 1: I feel like week four, the Philadelphia Eagles are the same.
- 44:15Speaker 1: You know, you're like, the sky is falling. Even the
- 44:16Speaker 1: year they won the Super Bowl, they're like, oh, get
- 44:19Speaker 1: rid of Sirianni. I think they were chanting, fire Sirianni
- 44:22Speaker 1: in Philadelphia. And then they go on to win a
- 44:24Speaker 1: Super Bowl that year. So, Do I think this is
- 44:27Speaker 1: the same? No. I think they're in a much harder
- 44:30Speaker 1: position because you don't have the guys on offense. You
- 44:33Speaker 1: don't have the guys with the track record of really
- 44:36Speaker 1: having success in the National Football League, and then your
- 44:38Speaker 1: best receiver, Devontae Smith, is out. You don't really trust
- 44:41Speaker 1: your other guys. Usually a guy like Dallas Goddard is
- 44:45Speaker 1: still there, and he's a guy that's an underrated tight
- 44:47Speaker 1: end who makes a lot of big plays in Philadelphia.
- 44:49Speaker 1: He's out. Then you say, hey, Saquon Barkley's there. He's
- 44:53Speaker 1: a guy that could take over a game at any time.
- 44:55Speaker 1: He's out. Now you start to get concerned. Can Bigsby
- 44:59Speaker 1: do it? Can Bigsby put the team on his back?
- 45:01Speaker 1: Can Jalen Hurts put the team on his back? Because
- 45:03Speaker 1: they're asking a lot from Jalen Hurts. And I know
- 45:05Speaker 1: Philadelphia fans are like, we don't get to criticize Jalen Hurts.
- 45:08Speaker 1: Criticize all the other quarterbacks. How about we criticize everybody?
- 45:12Speaker 1: How about we just call the spade a spade? When
- 45:15Speaker 1: people are playing well, you say, hey, these guys are
- 45:17Speaker 1: playing really good football. When they're not playing well, you
- 45:20Speaker 1: got to say, hey, why aren't they playing well? This
- 45:22Speaker 1: is a good player. I think he has shown in
- 45:25Speaker 1: the past he can play this game at a really
- 45:26Speaker 1: high level. Why isn't it happening right now? That's a
- 45:29Speaker 1: fair question. Now, last year it was Kevin Petullo. Everybody
- 45:34Speaker 1: blamed Kevin Petullo, the offensive coordinator. Hey, he can change.
- 45:37Speaker 1: He can improve. We can get better than that. Now
- 45:40Speaker 1: you've got a new offensive coordinator, Sean Mannion, and now
- 45:44Speaker 1: is it the same thing? Get rid of the offensive coordinator? Like,
- 45:47Speaker 1: is that always– Is that going to be the go-to?
- 45:49Speaker 1: It can't be anything else. Nothing else can be corrected. Sure,
- 45:52Speaker 1: the offensive line is struggling. You're going to have to
- 45:53Speaker 1: address that. Mekhi Becton was sitting there as a free
- 45:56Speaker 1: agent before the Packers picked him up. Maybe he doesn't
- 45:58Speaker 1: fit at left guard. You know what I mean? But
- 46:01Speaker 1: I thought he played really good football for the Philadelphia
- 46:04Speaker 1: Eagles when he was there. Maybe he's not perfect, but
- 46:07Speaker 1: you bring him in, test it out, see if something
- 46:09Speaker 1: different works. I think that would have been a smart move.
- 46:13Speaker 1: Now he's in Green Bay, and you've got to continue
- 46:15Speaker 1: to go with what you have. But I just, I mean,
- 46:19Speaker 1: maybe the Philadelphia Eagles will surprise everybody this week, but
- 46:21Speaker 1: I can't see it.
- 46:23Speaker 2: Well, this division race is shaping up to have been
- 46:26Speaker 2: an interesting one too. You have the New York Giants
- 46:29Speaker 2: sitting at number one in the NFC East right now.
- 46:32Speaker 2: And then obviously with Philly struggling like they are, and
- 46:35Speaker 2: then you got the Cowboys who are red hot offensively
- 46:38Speaker 2: and are struggling defensively. Who do you think is going
- 46:42Speaker 2: to ultimately come out on top of this division? Because
- 46:46Speaker 2: every team has question marks.
- 46:50Speaker 1: I mean, my gut tells me the Dallas Cowboys because
- 46:55Speaker 1: they're the best of the group offensively, and nobody's– well,
- 46:59Speaker 1: the Giants have been better defensively. Deontay Banks has picked
- 47:02Speaker 1: six the other day. Their defense, you've got to give
- 47:03Speaker 1: them credit. They have been playing better. John Harbaugh is
- 47:06Speaker 1: a great coach. Jameis played better last week. All they
- 47:11Speaker 1: had to do was bring in nine. J.J. McCarthy behind him,
- 47:14Speaker 1: and things changed. Mitchell, it's crazy what competition can do.
- 47:17Speaker 1: It can bring the best out of you. you know,
- 47:19Speaker 1: they were asking Jameis questions in an interview and saying,
- 47:22Speaker 1: you know, as a backup quarterback, and Jameis took offense
- 47:25Speaker 1: to it. I think that's the first time I've seen
- 47:26Speaker 1: Jameis really that offended about something like that. And I
- 47:31Speaker 1: thought I saw a little bit of fire in Jameis' eyes.
- 47:34Speaker 1: I know everybody thinks of Jameis as like the jokester,
- 47:37Speaker 1: you know, the goofy guy that just, you know, has
- 47:39Speaker 1: these funny sayings. But I saw something serious right there
- 47:43Speaker 1: in that interview. And I thought Jameis had something to
- 47:45Speaker 1: prove against the Arizona Cardinals, and he did that. They
- 47:47Speaker 1: scored 36 points. That defense obviously had a factor in it.
- 47:51Speaker 1: They picked six Jacoby Brissett at the end of that
- 47:53Speaker 1: game near the goal line. And, yeah, I mean, you
- 47:59Speaker 1: can't count them out, but it's just hard to assume
- 48:01Speaker 1: that they're going to continue to play well and do
- 48:05Speaker 1: this with Jameis at the helm without the guys they
- 48:09Speaker 1: expected to start the season. But, again, if they find
- 48:16Speaker 1: a way to make the playoffs, I mean– John Harbaugh,
- 48:18Speaker 1: coach of the year. I agree.
- 48:21Speaker 2: I think it's a great hire in New York. Give
- 48:24Speaker 2: me Dallas in this division, by the way. Let's take
- 48:27Speaker 2: it to New England. This was a team that was
- 48:29Speaker 2: in desperate need of a win starting the season one
- 48:31Speaker 2: and two. They go on the road to Buffalo and
- 48:35Speaker 2: knock off Josh Allen and these high-flying Buffalo Bills. This
- 48:39Speaker 2: is the second year in a row they've done that.
- 48:41Speaker 2: They surprised a lot of folks last year when they
- 48:44Speaker 2: went into Buffalo and got a division win. Now they're
- 48:47Speaker 2: back to 2-2. They've found level footing, right? Now they
- 48:50Speaker 2: welcome the Las Vegas Raiders into town. Fresh off a
- 48:53Speaker 2: loss last week, but a team that looks like they
- 48:56Speaker 2: have changed a ton. Kirk Cousins holding it down for them.
- 49:00Speaker 2: And we've already talked about their offensive weapons. Brock Bowers,
- 49:04Speaker 2: what a perfect match for Kirk Cousins. Ashton Gentry and
- 49:08Speaker 2: their defense. Richard, they've made a lot of changes, especially
- 49:12Speaker 2: in that linebacking core. And I know you love the
- 49:15Speaker 2: rookie out of Cal, the fifth round pick who you
- 49:18Speaker 2: have a very soft spot in your heart for, Hezekiah Masses. Richard,
- 49:24Speaker 2: does the Las Vegas Raiders have what it takes to
- 49:27Speaker 2: get off the mat after this loss last week and
- 49:29Speaker 2: take care of the New England Patriots this weekend?
- 49:33Speaker 1: I think they do. I think they do. I think
- 49:36Speaker 1: even though they lost that game against Kansas city, I
- 49:39Speaker 1: think they won something. And I think they won the
- 49:41Speaker 1: respect of the league. And I think everybody who watched
- 49:43Speaker 1: that tape, who everybody who watched that game said, okay,
- 49:45Speaker 1: now every time that the Kansas city chiefs knocked them
- 49:50Speaker 1: on the mat, they got up and punched back. Every
- 49:52Speaker 1: time they took a punch, they gave a punch. And
- 49:55Speaker 1: obviously they run out of time. They lose the game
- 49:56Speaker 1: 30 to 27, but they didn't look like they didn't belong. And,
- 50:02Speaker 1: We speak very highly about the Kansas City Chiefs, and
- 50:04Speaker 1: they've earned that respect. No question about that. Andy Reid,
- 50:07Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes, Kenneth Walker III. They have earned that, but
- 50:14Speaker 1: how did they stay in that game with the way
- 50:18Speaker 1: Kenneth Walker played? Now, sure, the Raiders defense has some
- 50:22Speaker 1: things to clean up, but they're still 11th in the
- 50:24Speaker 1: league in points allowed. I don't think people are giving
- 50:27Speaker 1: this defense– and N'Kobe Dean and these pass rushers and
- 50:30Speaker 1: Max Crosby and our guy Hezekiah Masters, enough credit for
- 50:33Speaker 1: what they've done this season. They have played good football
- 50:36Speaker 1: on both sides of the football. And when Kubiak decided
- 50:42Speaker 1: to play Kirk Cousins over Mendoza, I think people kind
- 50:46Speaker 1: of questioned everything. They're like, why would you do this?
- 50:48Speaker 1: Kirk Cousins really struggled in Atlanta last year. Why would
- 50:51Speaker 1: you sign him? But like I've said all season long,
- 50:55Speaker 1: in this offense, Kirk Cousins is quite the savant. This
- 50:59Speaker 1: is what he does. This is his comfort zone. You
- 51:02Speaker 1: talk about putting a guy, this is a fish in water.
- 51:05Speaker 1: This is putting a guy in his element and where
- 51:07Speaker 1: he plays well, what he does well, and you're saying, hey,
- 51:11Speaker 1: we need you to do this for us. And I
- 51:13Speaker 1: think Mendoza is going to learn a lot from Kirk
- 51:16Speaker 1: Cousins because he's one of the best at operating this
- 51:18Speaker 1: offense in an efficient way. He's not perfect. I'm not
- 51:22Speaker 1: saying he's the best quarterback in the National Football League,
- 51:24Speaker 1: but Within this system that they run, this West Coast
- 51:29Speaker 1: condensed system, he does a great job. They're eighth in
- 51:31Speaker 1: scoring right now, and the New England Patriots are struggling.
- 51:35Speaker 1: I know Drake May played well last week against the
- 51:37Speaker 1: Buffalo Bills. I do not think highly of the Buffalo Bills' defense.
- 51:40Speaker 1: I think the Raiders' defense is a better defense. And just,
- 51:45Speaker 1: I mean, Josh Allen struggled a bit in that game.
- 51:49Speaker 1: I don't think this... New England defense is by any
- 51:52Speaker 1: means afraid of Josh Allen or what he can do.
- 51:54Speaker 1: He seems kind of gun-shy and afraid to run right now,
- 51:58Speaker 1: and I wish we got to the bottom of that
- 51:59Speaker 1: because his legs are such a huge part of what
- 52:02Speaker 1: he does, but we're going to get past that. I
- 52:04Speaker 1: don't think the New England Patriots have enough offensively. Even
- 52:06Speaker 1: with Drake May playing a little better, playing an improved game,
- 52:11Speaker 1: he still had two turnovers in the game. They won,
- 52:14Speaker 1: but they're only averaging 16 points a game, and you're
- 52:18Speaker 1: going against the eighth best scoring offense now your defense
- 52:21Speaker 1: is sixth in scoring they have played really well but
- 52:24Speaker 1: this vegas defense has 12 sacks on a season four
- 52:28Speaker 1: interceptions and three of them have come from the rookie
- 52:31Speaker 1: so give me the raiders in this game.
- 52:35Speaker 2: Polymarket favors uh new england they give them a 64
- 52:38Speaker 2: likelihood of winning this game so richard you are calling
- 52:41Speaker 2: for the upset I like the Raiders too, man. If
- 52:44Speaker 2: nothing else, it's just a cool story to see. And
- 52:47Speaker 2: like you said, Mendoza, I don't think he could be
- 52:50Speaker 2: put into a better situation. Obviously, Tom Brady has to
- 52:53Speaker 2: have some say on this. And having a first overall
- 52:57Speaker 2: pick sit behind a proven veteran like Kirk Cousins, who
- 53:01Speaker 2: is a student of the game. I mean, this guy
- 53:03Speaker 2: is probably the best businessman in football with all the
- 53:07Speaker 2: money he's made on his contracts throughout the year. But
- 53:09Speaker 2: he's made that money because he's very coachable, right? I mean,
- 53:13Speaker 2: he fits hand in glove with different schemes. And clearly
- 53:17Speaker 2: Kubiak saw something in him and wanted him to be
- 53:20Speaker 2: the starting quarterback. Mendoza is going to benefit from this
- 53:25Speaker 2: exponentially in years to come. I like what the Raiders
- 53:28Speaker 2: are building. I would love to see him get a
- 53:30Speaker 2: win this weekend, but give me the Patriots. I just
- 53:33Speaker 2: think that we saw a different team last weekend against
- 53:36Speaker 2: the Bills. I expect them to continue that momentum. At
- 53:39Speaker 2: home in Foxborough, give me the Pats.
- 53:42Speaker 1: Monday night delivers the final statement of the football week.
- 53:45Speaker 1: You've spent all weekend reacting to big plays and big decisions,
- 53:50Speaker 1: and now there's one more matchup to break down. It's
- 53:53Speaker 1: the kind of night you plan around, so dinner should
- 53:55Speaker 1: elevate it, not pull you away from it. And DiGiorno
- 53:58Speaker 1: Pizza lets you enjoy restaurant-quality taste fresh from your own oven.
- 54:04Speaker 1: while you settle in and watch how the defense disguises coverage,
- 54:08Speaker 1: how the offense adjusts, and who makes the play when
- 54:12Speaker 1: everybody knows the pressure is coming. Stay locked in to
- 54:15Speaker 1: the moments everyone will react afterwards to. The fourth down call,
- 54:20Speaker 1: the coverage bust, the turnover that changes everything. Monday night
- 54:25Speaker 1: is too good to treat like an ordinary weeknight. So
- 54:29Speaker 1: don't just make do, make DiGiorno. It's not delivery, baby.
- 54:34Speaker 1: It's DiGiorno.
- 54:37Speaker 2: Let's move on to Atlanta. I mean, this is a
- 54:39Speaker 2: team that had two primetime games the last two weeks.
- 54:43Speaker 2: Thursday night football in Green Bay, which you were a
- 54:45Speaker 2: witness of, decimated the Green Bay Packers. Then on Monday
- 54:49Speaker 2: night football, they travel on the road to division foe
- 54:52Speaker 2: New Orleans Saints. They handle them handedly. What has changed
- 54:57Speaker 2: outside of the obvious, which is Michael Penix? What has
- 55:01Speaker 2: changed for this team to go from absolute dumpster fire
- 55:05Speaker 2: to a team that looks like they should be one
- 55:08Speaker 2: of the top in the NFL. I mean, let's call
- 55:10Speaker 2: it what it is. They've dominated these last two weeks.
- 55:14Speaker 1: I think confidence. I think when a team believes that
- 55:17Speaker 1: the guy in their center can get it done, they
- 55:19Speaker 1: play with a different confidence, and that's everybody on the roster.
- 55:23Speaker 1: After watching them in Green Bay, I did not think,
- 55:25Speaker 1: based on the tape they put on the last two
- 55:27Speaker 1: games against Carolina, they got blown out of the water
- 55:29Speaker 1: against the Carolina Panthers 37-3, I want to say it was.
- 55:33Speaker 1: They didn't look great against the Pittsburgh Steelers. I was like, ah,
- 55:36Speaker 1: this team just doesn't. Maybe they just don't have it.
- 55:38Speaker 1: Maybe they're, again, a talented team that just can't put
- 55:40Speaker 1: it all together on Sundays. But with Pennix under center,
- 55:45Speaker 1: they have looked totally different. Drake London, much more productive.
- 55:51Speaker 1: Kyle Pitts still hasn't been unlocked in a way I
- 55:53Speaker 1: think that anybody expected. When he came out of college,
- 55:57Speaker 1: I think he's shown flashes of it, but I don't
- 56:00Speaker 1: think he's getting the opportunities that he needs to be
- 56:03Speaker 1: really impactful and he can be. A guy who has
- 56:06Speaker 1: been impactful is Bajon Robinson. Bajon Robinson, 85 carries, 494
- 56:11Speaker 1: yards and four touchdowns, including a 59 yarder that we
- 56:14Speaker 1: watched on Monday night. He's a guy. He's the best
- 56:18Speaker 1: running back in the National Football League. And I know
- 56:19Speaker 1: Kenneth Walker has a canine, has a great argument, but
- 56:22Speaker 1: this guy has been incredibly consistent over the years. And
- 56:25Speaker 1: if Kenneth Walker continues on the path he is on
- 56:28Speaker 1: right now, then he will potentially wear that crown this season.
- 56:32Speaker 1: And I'm sure James Cook and Buffalo Bills fans will
- 56:34Speaker 1: sit there and gripe about that. But Atlanta is playing
- 56:38Speaker 1: with a lot of confidence. And in this game, Baltimore,
- 56:41Speaker 1: they've won games. They've leaned on their run game. They're
- 56:44Speaker 1: scoring points. They're seventh in the league in scoring at
- 56:46Speaker 1: 29 points a game. But they didn't look great after
- 56:51Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson went out last week. They didn't score more
- 56:54Speaker 1: after the half. They were up, I think, 24 to
- 56:56Speaker 1: 7 or so after the half. And they did not
- 56:58Speaker 1: score another point. And He's questionable. He's a big-time competitor.
- 57:03Speaker 1: I'm sure he'll fight to play. But there are other issues.
- 57:06Speaker 1: They're missing their starting center, Ethan Posick. He's out. Ronnie Staley,
- 57:10Speaker 1: their tackle is questionable for this game. They're missing Humphrey
- 57:14Speaker 1: in this game. Trey Hendrickson is out of this game.
- 57:18Speaker 1: And this isn't a defense that were world beaters to
- 57:21Speaker 1: begin with. They're 15th in scoring and only have seven
- 57:27Speaker 1: sacks on the season. I think the Atlanta Falcons, I
- 57:30Speaker 1: know Polly Market has Baltimore winning this 57%, but I
- 57:35Speaker 1: got the Atlanta Falcons in this game. They're rolling. They're
- 57:37Speaker 1: playing with confidence. They're starting to think that they can
- 57:40Speaker 1: be the team that they thought they were coming out
- 57:42Speaker 1: of training camp. It's starting to come together in a
- 57:44Speaker 1: really cool way for them. And Baltimore just banged up.
- 57:48Speaker 1: It's the war of attrition. Can they stay healthy right now?
- 57:51Speaker 1: That hasn't been the case. And if Lamar Jackson can't go,
- 57:54Speaker 1: I think this game is totally out of control. If
- 57:57Speaker 1: he can go, obviously... He's a former multiple time MVP
- 58:01Speaker 1: and a guy that can take game over at any time.
- 58:03Speaker 1: They'll still have Derek Henry who has been productive, but
- 58:06Speaker 1: I know that Jeff Olbrich, the, the DC for the
- 58:10Speaker 1: Atlanta Falcons will call Robert Sala guy that they've worked
- 58:13Speaker 1: together in the past and say, Hey, what do you
- 58:16Speaker 1: think I need to do? What did you guys do
- 58:18Speaker 1: in the second half against this offense and try to
- 58:20Speaker 1: come up with some solutions? They contain, I can't say
- 58:23Speaker 1: they contain Lamar Jackson because he was very efficient, but, um,
- 58:27Speaker 1: I think they will have a good plan for them,
- 58:29Speaker 1: and this defense has been playing with more and more
- 58:31Speaker 1: confidence each week.
- 58:33Speaker 2: Well, obviously the big question coming into this game is
- 58:36Speaker 2: the health of Lamar Jackson, but I'm here to say
- 58:38Speaker 2: whether he plays or not, give me Atlanta as well.
- 58:41Speaker 2: I'm kind of surprised, honestly, that Atlanta's the underdog in
- 58:46Speaker 2: this game. This team has gone on the road in
- 58:50Speaker 2: primetime hostile environments the last two weeks and has taken
- 58:54Speaker 2: care of business handily. Now they come back home, and
- 58:58Speaker 2: I'm sure the crowd's going to be going berserk. Atlanta's
- 59:01Speaker 2: going to be on fire. Huge matchup. Give me Atlanta
- 59:04Speaker 2: as well. Michael Penix, what a change two weeks can
- 59:07Speaker 2: make for this team. We might actually have... a couple
- 59:11Speaker 2: good teams in this division, Richard. We were calling for
- 59:14Speaker 2: somebody to stand up in the NFC South. We've seen
- 59:17Speaker 2: the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons rise of recent. We'll
- 59:21Speaker 2: see if that trend continues. Let's take it to New Orleans,
- 59:24Speaker 2: a team that we just saw lose on Monday night
- 59:28Speaker 2: to this Atlanta Falcons team. And they host the 4-0
- 59:32Speaker 2: Minnesota Vikings. Last podcast I brought up to you, I said, man,
- 59:36Speaker 2: this team is undefeated. We hardly talk about them. You
- 59:39Speaker 2: didn't even bother to mention them. And your top five
- 59:41Speaker 2: is an honorable mention in your power ranks. And even
- 59:45Speaker 2: after they improved to 4-0, you said they're still on
- 59:48Speaker 2: the outside looking in. That being said, they travel on
- 59:51Speaker 2: the road to this New Orleans Saints team led by
- 59:54Speaker 2: Tyler Shuck. Tyler Shuck, you know, looks like he should
- 59:58Speaker 2: be the guy in New Orleans. Chris Alave, clearly healthy,
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: having a huge breakout season. Do you think the New
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: Orleans Saints has what it takes to knock off this
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: undefeated Minnesota Vikings team?
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: No, I do not. No, I do not. Um, I
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: don't think if they couldn't beat the Atlanta Falcons, uh,
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: I don't think they, they do well against this Brian
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: Flores coach defense, the aggression they're going to bring. Um,
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: I don't think they're playing well enough defensively. I know
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: Kyler Murray isn't perfect, but he played solid last game,
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: and I think he'll play better against this defense. I
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: don't see them winning this game. I think that Minnesota
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: has been very scrappy in the secondary. Isaiah Rogers, Byron Murphy,
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: Harrison Smith, those guys are playing really good football in
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: the front. Dallas Turner continues to be very disruptive. They
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: have 16 sacks on a season, four interceptions. They do
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: a great job of putting a lot of pressure on offense. Now,
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: Tyler Shuck has done a phenomenal job this season. He's
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: been a guy that has pushed the ball around the yard,
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: pushed the ball down the field, some very, really cool
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: high-level throws. Even Monday night, he had some really high-level
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: throws that he made in that game, but it wasn't enough.
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: And I don't know if it's going to be enough
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: going forward, and definitely not in this game. I don't
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: think he's going to be as comfortable as he was
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: I don't think he's going to have the time that
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: he did in the last game. And I think that
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: the Minnesota Vikings are just, I mean, they're just fighting
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: away right now. And we're going to have to really
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: start a really serious conversation about them winning this NFC North.
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: Something that I would not have thought I would say
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: coming into the season.
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: Well, it just shows you what a, what a great
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: defense can do for you. I mean, this Minnesota team
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: led by Kyler Murray has looked very beatable offensively, but
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: when you've got a defense that's holding it down the
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: way the Minnesota Vikings defense is, they can win every game.
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: That being said, give me New Orleans in this game, Richard.
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: I like the Saints and Tyler Shuck to get back
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: in the winning column. I just think they have more
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: offensive weapons than we saw last week with the Miami
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: Dolphins and.
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: We shall see. But that's my hot take of the week.
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: Give me New Orleans in this one. Let's move on
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: to a prime time showdown. Monday night football. The LA Rams.
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: Big comeback win last week in Philly. Down 20-10 going
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: into that fourth quarter. They host the Buffalo Bills. Fresh
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: off a loss against the New England Patriots. There are
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: two marquee matchups this week. The one being the Sherman Bowl.
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: 49ers versus the Seahawks. This comes second fiddle here. The
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: Rams taking on the Bills. Richard, Polly Market likes the
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: Rams at 59% likelihood to win this game.
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: Do you agree? This is a tougher one to call.
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: Because I don't believe in the Buffalo Bills defense. And again,
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: we talk about these contenders and what their Achilles heels are. Now,
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: is this defense as bad? As that Dallas Cowboys defense? No.
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: Are they as bad as your Detroit Lions defense? Heavens no.
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: Don't do me like that.
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: I just caught a stray, man.
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: Come on. I mean, it's stray, Mitchell, but it's not wrong.
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: But they're 25th right now in points allowed at 26.8
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: points a game. Now, Matthew Stafford isn't having his best
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: season yet. by any stretch of the imagination. He's thrown
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: six touchdowns and six interceptions. That's unusual for Matthew Stafford,
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: especially how great he's been in L.A. He's the reigning
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: most valuable player in the National Football League, so I'm
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: sure he's not happy about that. But they, you know,
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: Puka Nakua has been in and out of the lineup.
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: You know, they've had some bad luck, but I'm sure
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: he's going to hold himself to a higher standard. Josh
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: Allen hasn't been as great as he would want to be.
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: James Cook has. James Cook has. And He's going to
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: be the biggest factor. I can't say the biggest factor,
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: but if the Buffalo Bills have a chance in this game,
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: he's going to be the reason. Obviously, Josh Allen's going
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: to be a huge part of it. But, again, I
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: don't know what's holding Josh Allen back from running the
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: football when he has open space. He has, like, even
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: times where you see there's green grass out in front
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: of him. He's looking and still– throwing the football, whether
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: it's incomplete or not. I mean, there were times he
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: had a clear path to the end zone. He could
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: have took off, and you just usually expect Josh Allen
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: to say, yep, I'm taking that, whether I'm diving or
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: running somebody over, I'm going for the end zone. And
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: it seems like there's been a concerted effort for him
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: not to take those runs. And I think it's harmed,
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: it's hurt the Buffalo Bills this season. I got the L.A.
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: Rams in this one. I got the L.A. Rams. I
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: think the momentum from last game, that fourth quarter rally
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: that they had, the way Sean, exuberant energy from Sean McVay.
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: I think if they lose that game, I would have
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: them losing this game. But I think them fighting and
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: battling on the road in Philadelphia and finding a way
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: to pull out that game, that kind of woke up
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: something in that team and kind of reassured them. I think,
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: you know, they were right there teetering, Mitchell teetering, and
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: they teetered on the right side of history in that game.
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: And I think that's going to help them going into
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: this game. Every game is different, but I think their
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: defense felt really good. They played a great second half.
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: They played a great fourth quarter. They were making plays.
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: They were putting pressure on the quarterback. They were doing
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: what they expected to do. And offensively, they got it done.
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: And that kind of brings you together, Mitchell. That starts
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: to bring a team together. And I think the Buffalo
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: Bills kind of headed in the other direction. You look
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: at that game, and at the end, Drake May made
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: enough plays on their defense, and then you give Josh
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: Allen the ball, and you expect him to play hero again,
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: and this time he threw an interception at the end
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: of that game. He's not always able to save the day.
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: He shouldn't always need to save the day, and that's
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: why this team has struggled because he has to be
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: hero ball. If he doesn't play hero ball, they lose,
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: and last week he couldn't play the hero at the end,
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: and of course they lose this game. I think the
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: Rams are a more complete team. I got the Rams
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: in this one.
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: This NFC West is about to heat up here, Richard.
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: I mean, all three of these teams are starting to
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: look very, very formidable. We shall see how it all
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: unfolds here in the coming weeks. Let's take it to
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: the NFC North, a divisional matchup here in Green Bay
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: as the Green Bay Packers host the Chicago Bears, who
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: are off to a 3-1 start under Ben Johnson. This
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: team in Chicago has weathered the storm of not having
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: Caleb Williams for the last couple weeks, and they haven't
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: missed a beat. Case Keenum comes in. Tyson Bajan comes in.
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: It doesn't matter who's under center. It just goes to
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: show you what a big mastermind of an offensive guy
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: Ben Johnson truly is. Richard, Polymarket gives 58% likelihood of
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: Chicago to win this game.
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: Your thoughts? Yeah, I mean, the Chicago defense has played
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: really well after week one. They gave up those 37
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: points to Carolina. Since then, they've given up 9, 7,
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: and 12. I got the Chicago Bears beating them. Green
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: Bay has helped, has fixed some of their problems on
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: the offensive line, but I don't think that's enough. They're
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: not playing well enough defensively to win this one.
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: Until the Green Bay Packers figure out their running back room,
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: I just can't take them seriously. I mean, this is–
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: Similar to what's going on in Detroit with their defense.
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: There's got to be somebody else out there that they
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: can pluck off the free agency wire that can take
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: some pressure off of Jordan Love in this offense. Give
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: me Chicago as well. Let's take it to Denver. Just
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: losing to the San Francisco 49ers by 10 last week.
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: They travel on the road against the LA Chargers 0-4.
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: Let's just cut right to the chase. Is this season
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: over for the Chargers?
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: Yes, yes. The season's over for the Chargers, in my opinion.
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: The question is who's going to get fired and how
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: bad it's going to get. I think the Denver Broncos
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: obviously haven't played as well offensively as they wanted to.
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: They expected more from Davis Webb, and I think they're
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: still giving him, Sean Payton's still giving him enough leash
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: to try to figure things out, but it's getting close.
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: If they don't win this game and they don't play
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: well enough offensively, I think you could see a moment
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: where Sean Payton kind of takes the reins back of
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: this offense and gets them back on track. But I
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: got the Denver Broncos winning this game.
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: I like Denver as well. We've got the Miami Dolphins 0-4,
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: another 0-4 team, taking on and hosting the Cincinnati Bengals.
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: I've been very bullish on the Cincinnati Bengals from the
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: start of the season. They've let me down the last
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: couple weeks. Do they get back in the winning column
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: this weekend?
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: Yes, I think Cincinnati Bengals get back in the winning column. Hopefully,
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: Jamar Chase is back in the fold. Obviously, he went
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: out with a concussion last week. You hope that he's
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: okay for this game. He's a big part of this offense.
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: Joe Burrow continued to be productive, found T. Higgins, and
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: they started to develop a rapport in that game. Their
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: defense needs to get back to playing great football. We
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: started to give them credit, and then they started to
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: play a little bit worse than they had played early
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: in the season. They're still 13th in points allowed, but
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: they've dropped the last two. I think they get back
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: on the winning track.
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: Cleveland, a team that's 3-1 traveling to New York to
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: face the 1-3 Jets. This is one of the more
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: surprising teams of the year, much like the Las Vegas Raiders.
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: Cleveland being 3-1 is a bit of a shock. They're
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: underdogs heading into this game. Polly Market favors the New
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: York Jets, giving them a 55% likelihood to win this game.
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: That being said, Cleveland looked very good on Thursday Night Football,
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: a game that you were at. How much faith do
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: you have in Deshaun Watson under center for this team?
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: It's, I mean, not a ton. You know, it was
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: starting to grow, but it's a seed that's been getting
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: watered a little bit. And that win, we saw it
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: in person. It's starting to give credence to what the
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: fans and Todd Munkin has said that they believe this
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: team can get it done. And Todd Munkin is a
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: very fun coach, it seems like. It seems like he's
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: having fun, he's bought in, he's energetic, and he's starting
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: to speak belief into this team. Their defense is starting
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: to play better. Denzel Ward continues to be one of
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: the best corners in the league. Mike Ruttenberg has this
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: team playing a lot of man coverage, and it's making
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: it really tough on offenses. They're playing tough, tight coverage.
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: Tyson Campbell on the other side. Grant Delphitt, these guys
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: are getting it done at a high level. And then
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: Jared Burst is talking crap every series, it seems like.
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: And this defensive line, they're starting to believe. The unfortunate
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: part is a guy who was having a breakout season
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: in his second year, Mason Graham, seems to be like
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: he may be out for the rest of the season.
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: And that's a huge blow. But I think they find
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: a way to win this game. They got some momentum.
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: I think the Cleveland Browns win this one.
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: Give me Cleveland as well. Let's go to Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh's
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: hosting the Indianapolis Colts, who just won last week. Both
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: of these teams are 2-2, have a lot to fight for.
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: We talked about it this past weekend. You said Daniel
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: Jones didn't look like the Indiana Jones of last year.
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: That being said, do you think the Indianapolis Colts have
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: what it takes to go on the road and get
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: an upset win in Pittsburgh?
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: Well, I think Aaron Rodgers is actually playing really solid football. Obviously,
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: the standard for him is so high that you can
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: never say he's playing as well as he's played in
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: his career because he's got four MVPs, but I think
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: for a guy that's 42 years old, he's playing very solid.
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: I think He needs more help from his weapons. Pittman
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: is going to have to step up. DK Metcalf is
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: going to have to be more consistent in these games.
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: Darnell Washington is a guy he's found that has made
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: some highlight plays for him. Their defense has been solid,
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: a little up and down. They struggled last week against
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: Deshaun Watson in that offense, so there's some question marks there.
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: The Indianapolis Colts are running the ball well. Jonathan Taylor
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: continues to show he's one of the best backs in
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: the National Football League, even though he gets forgotten sometimes
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: in the Indianapolis game. But I'm just not sure Daniel
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: Jones is quite there yet. I begrudgingly take the Pittsburgh
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: Steelers in this one.
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: A battle of two 0-4 teams in Tennessee. The Houston
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: Texans take on the Tennessee Titans. And there's going to
- 1:12:19Speaker 2: be some bad blood here, Richard. Let's not forget. Didn't
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: Houston move to Tennessee, the Houston Oilers? So, you know,
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: there's some ownership feud potentially going on here. The Houston Texans,
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: they're one of the biggest disappointments of the year. Right
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: next to the LA Chargers, 0-4. Did they finally figure
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: out a way to pull off a win this weekend
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: in Tennessee?
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I think the Houston Texans win this game or
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: there's going to be some changes. I think the Houston
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: Texans lose this game. Unfortunately, there are going to be
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: some changes. I don't know what those changes will be.
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: I'm not going to speculate at this time. But I
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: got Houston winning this game. Tennessee just doesn't have enough
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: right now. I'm still not bought in on Cam Ward
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: and what he's going to be, and I'm not sure
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: the Tennessee Titans are. I think he's playing for his job,
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: in a sense, going forward, his future, and if he
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: can show the flashes that people saw coming out of Miami,
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: obviously he's the number one pick. You don't quickly move
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: off a number one pick, but not living up to
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: the standard. This game is moving a lot. People are
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: starting to move off of players a lot quicker than
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: they once did And if he can't start to find
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: a way to score some points and push the ball
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: down the field, they're going to have to figure out
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: another answer.
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: The New York Giants, 3-1. We just talked about them,
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: but they're ahead of the NFC East right now. They
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: travel on the road to take on the Washington Commanders.
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: We're not sure who's going to be under center for
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: the Commanders. Let's assume it's Jaden Daniels. Can the Giants
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: really get off to a 4-1 start on the season here?
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: That's a great question. It's hard. It's hard to, you
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: don't know who's going to play a quarterback for the commanders.
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: If it's Jayden Daniels, you got to think they're going
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: to find a way to come out with winning this game.
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: It's hard to even recognize their stats in this game.
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: But again, the Giants defense has been sneaky. They've been
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: playing better than people are giving them credit. They're eighth
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: in the league in scoring defense at 19.8 points a game.
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: They're starting to play with more confidence at the end.
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: Games like that, plays like that kind of, start to
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: embolden a team, and start to have them believing that, hey,
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: maybe they're more special than people have given them credit for.
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: Sometimes you start to believe things that you didn't once
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: believe because the results are speaking for themselves. They're 3-1.
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: I know Polymarket has Washington at 62% in this game.
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: I'm not sure what roster they think they're looking at
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: when they're looking at this Washington Commanders team. I got
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: the Giants in this game.
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: And before we wrap, Richard, we've got to talk about
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: our power ranks here. And I'll let you take a
- 1:14:55Speaker 2: moment to formulate your opinion, and I'll start with mine.
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: I got the San Francisco 49ers. Call it a hot take.
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: It's really not one. But they're number one in my
- 1:15:04Speaker 2: power ranks. And you've been on this team all season long,
- 1:15:06Speaker 2: and I finally agree with you. They've proven it. They're
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: number one. Number two, the Kansas City Chiefs, led by
- 1:15:13Speaker 2: Kenneth Walker III, Michigan State. Go green, go white. I
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: love to see what he's doing with the Chiefs. You
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: have not seen this level of production behind Patrick Mahomes.
- 1:15:23Speaker 2: It unlocks a whole new layer for this offense. I
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: like the Chiefs for now and in the future. They're
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: on bye this week, so we're not going to get
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: to see them. But so impressed with what Kenneth Walker
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: brings to the table. And they might be in on
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: the Tyreek Hill sweepstakes. We shall see. At number three,
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: and this is a little reluctant for me, but I'm
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: going to give it to them. The Seattle Seahawks. I
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: like this team a lot. I'm going to look at
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: this weekend as a true measuring stick game for them.
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: How do they respond against division foes, San Francisco 49ers?
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: Lock me in with the Seattle Seahawks at three. That
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: being said, if they lose this week, Richard, they're out
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: of my power ranks and they might not be in
- 1:16:03Speaker 2: it for a little bit with two losses. At number four,
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: the Chicago Bears. As much as it pains me to
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: say it, what I've seen on tape from this team,
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: led by Ben Johnson. They are a force offensively, and
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: if they could just maintain teams defensively, this team, I think,
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: is going to win the North, and that really, really
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: pains me, but I love what I see in Chicago
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: right now. I think that fan base should be super excited.
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: And then finally, making their debut in my power ranks,
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: the Jacksonville Jaguars. They go on the road in Cincinnati
- 1:16:34Speaker 2: and knock off Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals. I
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: just love what I see from this team. They've got
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: enough spark plugs offensively. I love their wide receiving core,
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: but it's their defense. It's their defense that is the
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: difference makers for this team right now. Give me the
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: Jacksonville Jaguars at number five. Richard, what did I get wrong?
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: Well, Mitchell, you finally got number one, right? I was
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: waiting for you to get on the train and now
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: you're finally on board. The San Francisco 49ers are playing
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: the best football in the National Football League right now,
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: despite all the injuries at wide receiver, despite the injury.
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: to one of their best defensive players, Nicholas John Bolsa.
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: They continue to play well on both sides of the ball,
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: well coached, executing well in just about every phase of
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: the game. Number two, we're going to go with the
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: Kansas City Chiefs. They got a bye week, so they're
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: not going to move out of that spot this week.
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: It was the Buffalo Bills, but that loss to the
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: New England Patriots just put a bad taste in my mouth.
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: That defense continues to let me down, and it's letting
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: them down. And I don't really know how you get
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: that fixed. So number three, I'm going to go with
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: the Seattle Seahawks. I agree with you there. I'm not
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: just going to knock the Seahawks out of the running
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: because of a loss to the Commanders, even though that
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: loss to the Commanders, again, just bad taste in my mouth.
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: But still, one of the best teams in the National
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: Football League, one of the most complete teams in the
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: National Football League on both sides of the football. Number four,
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: I'm going to give them a little more credit than
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: you gave them, the Jacksonville Jaguars. They're playing good football
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: in Duval. Again, one of the best receiving cores in
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: the National Football League. Parker Washington, Jacoby Meyer, Brian Thomas Jr.
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: They're getting everybody involved. Then that defense. If they can
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: continue to make plays, put pressure on a quarterback. Our guy,
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: friend of the program, Eric Armstead, got him one other day.
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: Anytime you see the belly rub, Mitchell, he's having a
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: good time. And then in their secondary, finally playing Travis
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: Hunter and allowing him to do what he did. Jordan
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: Lewis got an interception last week. They're an opportunistic defense.
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: The middle linebacker, Oluokun, continues to make big plays, continues
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: to make a case to be a Pro Bowler this season.
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: And number five, it got to go with the Bears.
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: I got to go with the Bears. The Bears playing great.
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: defense despite the injuries at quarterback. I love the Case Keenum.
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: I thought they would play him again. I thought it
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: was a really cool deal that Ben Johnson put him
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: out there for the first play just to kind of
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: make a point. Tyson Bajent is going to have to
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: play better football to beat the Green Bay Packers. It's
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: going to be a tough divisional game, but I think
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: they pulled that one out. I feel really good about
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: this top five. There are a couple of teams that
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: are right there on the edge. I know the Minnesota
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: Vikings fans are like, we're 4-0. Yeah, but you're a
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: 4-0 that's a really flimsy 4-0. And until I see
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: you beat a team that we have a ton of
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: respect for, it's going to be tough. And I know
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: you can only play the schedule that you play, but
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: we've made that mistake before, putting teams in there with
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: flimsy schedules, Mitchell. If you're still there in a few weeks,
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: we will put you in. I might. If you win
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: this one. I'll put you in. How about that?
- 1:19:40Speaker 2: You're talking flimsy schedules. They're going on the road against
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: the Saints, man.
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: I don't know if.
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: You can necessarily hang your hat on that. Speaking of hats,
- 1:19:50Speaker 2: how about this hat, Richard? I'm debuting the new Richard
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: Sherman podcast hat here. I'm twinning it up with my
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: guy Richard over here. Another main team that's not in
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: the top five of either of our teams is the
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: Buffalo Bills. I know you briefly touched on them, but
- 1:20:06Speaker 2: What they showed the last two weeks, five turnovers against
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: the Chargers and then ultimately losing against the Pats, that
- 1:20:14Speaker 2: was enough for me to knock them out. They got
- 1:20:15Speaker 2: a little bit to prove to get back in. Richard,
- 1:20:18Speaker 2: this concludes our preview of week five. We're about a
- 1:20:21Speaker 2: quarter way through the season right now. It is always
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: a pleasure sitting down with you every week. I will
- 1:20:27Speaker 2: let you sign us off, my friend.
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: As always, we appreciate you guys joining us. You could
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: be anywhere in the world, but you're here with us,
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: and we greatly appreciate it. Please hit that like and
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: sub button. Continue to support us. We continue to try
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: to bring you the best content we have, the best,
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: most objective. Try not to yell too much. Try not
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: to get too crazy. But we love football, and we
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: love you guys. So thank you so much. We will
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: see you next time. We'll see you next time.
