- 1:34Speaker 1: going to talk about got some got an email. I
- 1:36Speaker 1: think it's probably gonna spark a conversation about about both
- 1:40Speaker 1: cats and dogs and uh and number ones and number twos,
- 1:43Speaker 1: which is.
- 1:45Speaker 3: Those things that's pretty sophisticated.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Yes, you know me, you know yah, I go deep
- 1:51Speaker 1: with this. So we've got we've got a great conversation ahead.
- 1:55Speaker 1: And I mentioned the emails. Of course, you can always
- 1:58Speaker 1: email the station. You can email me Sean Wiba dot com.
- 2:01Speaker 1: You can also submit an email at checkout vet dot
- 2:04Speaker 1: com also, and get it read on the air. Another
- 2:07Speaker 1: thing too. Phone lines are open, and if you've got
- 2:10Speaker 1: a question for doctor Greer, Doctor Greer would love to
- 2:12Speaker 1: talk with you. Love to have you join us this morning.
- 2:14Speaker 1: All I gotta do is dial in six oh eight
- 2:16Speaker 1: three two one thirteen ten. That's six oh eight three
- 2:20Speaker 1: two one thirteen ten. And speaking of the emails, Phil
- 2:23Speaker 1: wrote in he this is an interesting question because I'd
- 2:26Speaker 1: never heard of this, but he said, uh a preble
- 2:28Speaker 1: and doctor doctor Greer, somebody's clear been listening to the
- 2:31Speaker 1: show for a while.
- 2:32Speaker 2: Very casual.
- 2:32Speaker 1: I wanted to ask you your opinion on calming cat
- 2:36Speaker 1: litters that claim to reduce feline stress and anxiety. Have
- 2:40Speaker 1: you found these products to be effective in your experience?
- 2:43Speaker 1: He says, I've seen a few brands that incorporated these
- 2:46Speaker 1: incorporate these agents and or pheromones into the litter, but
- 2:50Speaker 1: I'm curious whether they truly make a difference, or are
- 2:52Speaker 1: there better alternatives you'd recommend for helping cats manage stress.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Thanks and advance for your insight. And that email comes
- 2:58Speaker 1: from Phil and obviously a serious concern here for sure.
- 3:02Speaker 3: Oh yeah, and cat litter and cat litter and ones
- 3:05Speaker 3: and twos are very important. We see in veterinary medicine
- 3:10Speaker 3: a huge number of urinary issues and cats, not too
- 3:13Speaker 3: many with tools, but a lot of urinary issues. That
- 3:16Speaker 3: accounts for about three percent of all hospital admissions at
- 3:19Speaker 3: veterinary clinics, So it's a big deal.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Three percent a lot.
- 3:23Speaker 3: So anything we can do to reduce the stress level
- 3:25Speaker 3: of our cats and get them to use their litter
- 3:27Speaker 3: box more effectively is going to be important. The number
- 3:30Speaker 3: one reason people relinquish their cats is because of urinary issues.
- 3:35Speaker 3: So if you're going to, you know, see a problem
- 3:38Speaker 3: with a shelter and you go in and there's an
- 3:40Speaker 3: adult cat there, behaviorally it's mostly you're litter about to use.
- 3:45Speaker 3: Second most common is biting, and then of course the
- 3:47Speaker 3: other reasons people that relinquish their cats will be things
- 3:49Speaker 3: like they got elderly and had moved their nursing home,
- 3:53Speaker 3: and you know, there's a variety of other things. So
- 3:55Speaker 3: I don't want to sound like that's the only thing
- 3:56Speaker 3: that causes cats that are adults to go to a shelter,
- 4:00Speaker 3: but it is certainly a big concern. So anything we
- 4:02Speaker 3: can do to improve their little box us is important.
- 4:05Speaker 3: And so if cat litter Calmbing cut Litter's helped. That's great.
- 4:08Speaker 3: There's Calmbing cat food that's made by both Hills. That's
- 4:12Speaker 3: called the CD Stress. It's a prescription diet, and Royal
- 4:15Speaker 3: Canaan makes one called Calm Cleverly Clomb. So it has
- 4:21Speaker 3: trip to fan and some other ingredient incident like trip
- 4:24Speaker 3: to fan is the thing that after Thanksgiving dinner makes
- 4:27Speaker 3: you sleepy, that warm belly full of turkey, So trip
- 4:31Speaker 3: to fan helps of that. So those are the things
- 4:33Speaker 3: that we can do that are non pharmaceutical agents. Now
- 4:36Speaker 3: there are pharmaceuticals as well, and we can talk about those.
- 4:40Speaker 3: There's a feel away spray, a feel away room diffuser,
- 4:44Speaker 3: and those are again the pheromone feel Away and it
- 4:47Speaker 3: was developed by Siva Gosh twenty twenty five years ago.
- 4:51Speaker 3: We received some of the first samples as trials at
- 4:53Speaker 3: our practice. They were shipped from France in a paint
- 4:56Speaker 3: can with a lid on it. There were three containers
- 4:59Speaker 3: of it in a paint can. Because they didn't know
- 5:00Speaker 3: how it was going to handle international travel. They didn't
- 5:03Speaker 3: want the atomizers to explode while they were shipping them,
- 5:07Speaker 3: so they put them in a paint can. Now of
- 5:08Speaker 3: course they don't come that way anymore. You can buy
- 5:10Speaker 3: them on Amazon and you just plug them into your room,
- 5:14Speaker 3: or you can use it as a spray, and that
- 5:16Speaker 3: again is a pheromone. A pheromone is basically a hormone
- 5:19Speaker 3: that you don't give orally, but it's one that they
- 5:21Speaker 3: smell in the air, and it's derived from cat from
- 5:25Speaker 3: when they rub their little lips on the edges of
- 5:27Speaker 3: corners or your fingers or whatever, you know, how they
- 5:30Speaker 3: go over and they mark corners. That's a pheromone that
- 5:32Speaker 3: they're releasing from those little glands and their lips and
- 5:35Speaker 3: their chin. So that's meant to calm cats as a spray,
- 5:39Speaker 3: as an atomizer, and as this I'm assuming that that's
- 5:43Speaker 3: in these cat litters because I'm not privy to the formula,
- 5:46Speaker 3: but that's what they indicate. So yes, anything we can
- 5:49Speaker 3: do to reduce the stress of a cat to get
- 5:51Speaker 3: them to use the liuver box is an important thing.
- 5:52Speaker 3: So if that's what it takes, is buying a different
- 5:54Speaker 3: kind of cat litter, and it may be additive. It
- 5:57Speaker 3: may be that you need the room atomizer, maybe you
- 5:59Speaker 3: need the diet, maybe all those things, but any of
- 6:02Speaker 3: those things can be helpful, so collectively they're probably going
- 6:06Speaker 3: to add up to something better than anything alone.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Talking this morning with doctor Murder Greer of Checkout Veterinary,
- 6:11Speaker 1: a great question this morning from Phil Filter the time
- 6:14Speaker 1: to email, and we've been talking about getting your emails
- 6:16Speaker 1: right on the show. All you got to do is
- 6:18Speaker 1: send them to the station and send them to me.
- 6:19Speaker 1: You can also email check Out Veterinary of course, right
- 6:22Speaker 1: on the website checkout vets dot com. That's checkout vet
- 6:25Speaker 1: dot com. If you're near your phone right now and
- 6:27Speaker 1: you've got a question, we'd love to have you join
- 6:28Speaker 1: us phone number six oh eight three two one thirteen ten.
- 6:31Speaker 1: That's six oh eight three two one thirteen ten. Anything
- 6:34Speaker 1: about your pets, healthcare and your pets care, Doctor Greer
- 6:37Speaker 1: is here. It doesn't have necessarily be about the topic
- 6:39Speaker 1: at hand. You can call in on anything. We'd love
- 6:42Speaker 1: to hear from you. Again the number six oh eight
- 6:43Speaker 1: three two one thirteen ten. That's six oh eight three
- 6:46Speaker 1: two one thirteen ten. By the way, when we were
- 6:48Speaker 1: talking to about about stress and anxiety for cats, what
- 6:51Speaker 1: are some of the signs for a for a cat
- 6:53Speaker 1: that's that's stressed out or a cat that's feeling anxious?
- 6:56Speaker 2: Are there things we should be looking for?
- 6:58Speaker 1: I got to be honest, doctor, I've never and maybe
- 7:01Speaker 1: that's probably a sign that maybe they're not, But I've
- 7:03Speaker 1: never thought about are my cats? Do the cats have anxiety?
- 7:06Speaker 1: What are some of those signs that they may have
- 7:09Speaker 1: some issues?
- 7:10Speaker 3: Sure, and that is a really good question. I've done
- 7:13Speaker 3: three immersion courses and behavior over the last seven years,
- 7:18Speaker 3: before and after COVID. Just got back from one in Canada,
- 7:22Speaker 3: and it's really interesting because a lot of owners don't
- 7:25Speaker 3: pick up on the trussed cats are showing. So they've
- 7:28Speaker 3: sent in videos and they've presented them at our courses
- 7:31Speaker 3: and we'll be sitting in the room with thirty veterinarians
- 7:33Speaker 3: and these cats will come out and they'll walk around
- 7:36Speaker 3: in the house and you can see that the one
- 7:38Speaker 3: cat doesn't want to approach the other one because it's
- 7:40Speaker 3: laying in the hall and preventing their access to the
- 7:43Speaker 3: litter box or preventing their access to food and water.
- 7:46Speaker 3: There's this control thing going on and the owners don't
- 7:50Speaker 3: understand what they're seeing. The veterinarians are all like, oh no,
- 7:54Speaker 3: did you see that? And the owners are like yeah,
- 7:56Speaker 3: is that cute? And you're like, no, that's not cute.
- 7:59Speaker 3: So it can be really difficult for owners to pick
- 8:02Speaker 3: up on those things. So I would encourage people if
- 8:04Speaker 3: they're seeing something that they're not sure how to interpret
- 8:06Speaker 3: it that number one, they videotape it so that they
- 8:08Speaker 3: can take it. Everybody's got a phone, everybody's got a
- 8:11Speaker 3: camera on their phone, so grab your phone, take some video,
- 8:14Speaker 3: and then work with a veterinarian that does behavior. We
- 8:16Speaker 3: do behavior in our practice. Brooke Lewis in Madison does behavior.
- 8:20Speaker 3: So there's a couple of people around that do it
- 8:22Speaker 3: and they can help you number one, interpret what you're seeing.
- 8:25Speaker 3: In number two, help your cats with some medications, and
- 8:28Speaker 3: oftentimes it does take medication. If the pheromone's not enough,
- 8:31Speaker 3: that feel away the cat litter, the cat foods, those
- 8:35Speaker 3: kinds of things. If that's not enough to manage the
- 8:37Speaker 3: cat stress, then there are pharmaceutical agents. We use a
- 8:40Speaker 3: lot of GABA patents. We'll use bus parone, we'll use floxetine.
- 8:45Speaker 3: There's definitely some really good pharmaceutical agents on the market,
- 8:48Speaker 3: and the over the counter stress relievers that are supplements,
- 8:53Speaker 3: Oftentimes they are not sufficient to get you the level
- 8:57Speaker 3: of calmbing that you need for those cats. And these
- 9:00Speaker 3: may be lifetime medications, they may be short term medications,
- 9:03Speaker 3: depending on the severity. Sometimes it's eliminating a cat from
- 9:06Speaker 3: the household. Sometimes it's just not possible to integrate all
- 9:11Speaker 3: the cats together. And oftentimes the one outcome that happens
- 9:15Speaker 3: is failure to use the litter box. And it may
- 9:17Speaker 3: be urinary issues, may be medical, so they may have
- 9:22Speaker 3: a urinary tect infection. Like I said, that's three percent
- 9:24Speaker 3: of all the cats that we see in veterinary admissions
- 9:26Speaker 3: are urinary issues. So it may be medical, it may
- 9:29Speaker 3: be behavioral. So sometimes you can't get this under control
- 9:32Speaker 3: because the cat's not using the liter box. They can't
- 9:35Speaker 3: get to it. You don't have enough boxes, they don't
- 9:37Speaker 3: like the kind of litter you're using. They the rule
- 9:40Speaker 3: of some is more litter box per cat plus a spare,
- 9:43Speaker 3: but try different kinds of litter because you don't want
- 9:45Speaker 3: to come in with this calming litter or any other
- 9:47Speaker 3: kind of litter and put it in all the litter
- 9:49Speaker 3: boxes and have all the cats go nope, not in
- 9:52Speaker 3: and then stop using the box. So make sure if
- 9:54Speaker 3: you're introducing a new kind of cat litter, regardless if
- 9:57Speaker 3: it's the new scupable thing on the market, or if
- 9:59Speaker 3: it's this ca or just regular clay litter or corn
- 10:02Speaker 3: cob or soy or whatever you're using. Put it in
- 10:05Speaker 3: one box and let the cats vote with their feet
- 10:08Speaker 3: and tell you which litter they like, because that's the
- 10:10Speaker 3: one they're going to use the most. A number of
- 10:12Speaker 3: years ago, probably thirty years ago, there was a litter
- 10:14Speaker 3: that came to market that was a plastic pellet and
- 10:18Speaker 3: it didn't absorb the urine. It just ran through a
- 10:20Speaker 3: tray in the bottom, and it was meant to be
- 10:21Speaker 3: a perpetual litter that you didn't throw out that you
- 10:23Speaker 3: just rinsed thing out the stool, rinse the urine off,
- 10:26Speaker 3: and left the box. My cat's never used it once
- 10:29Speaker 3: in two years, so pretty clearly that if I had
- 10:32Speaker 3: only given them that one litter, I would have had
- 10:35Speaker 3: a mess on my hands. And once cats stop using
- 10:37Speaker 3: the box, it's a lot harder to get them back
- 10:39Speaker 3: to it than it is if you keep them in
- 10:41Speaker 3: it in the first place.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Talking this morning with doctor Marty Greer, of course, Doctor
- 10:44Speaker 1: Greer comes to us from checkout veterinary. Great day to
- 10:47Speaker 1: start that relationship. They are accepting new patients or right now,
- 10:51Speaker 1: it's a great opportunity for you to start that relationship.

- 11:03Speaker 1: It is free to your vet again. Check out vet
- 11:06Speaker 1: dot com. Tell for number six oh eight three one
- 11:08Speaker 1: eight sixty seven hundred. That's six oh eight three one
- 11:11Speaker 1: eight sixty seven hundred. It's funny Tuesday because trash Day
- 11:14Speaker 1: is on Wednesday, so Tuesday is generally my complete reset,
- 11:18Speaker 1: dump all the scoopable stuff and get fresh stuff. And
- 11:20Speaker 1: I'm at the downstairs, at the downstairs, at the litter box,
- 11:25Speaker 1: and one cat Mini is looking at me, minmn and
- 11:27Speaker 1: I said, as I'm pouring new stuff in, I said,
- 11:29Speaker 1: doctor Greer says, keep it shallow, and said to her,
- 11:32Speaker 1: So that is important too as well. And I know,
- 11:35Speaker 1: as as pet owners like, if we can kind of
- 11:39Speaker 1: make a process easier on ourselves, we're gonna do it.
- 11:42Speaker 1: And I think sometimes we'll be like, oh, put a
- 11:43Speaker 1: bunch more in here, it'll make it easier for me.
- 11:45Speaker 1: But that's not always the best thing for your kitty,
- 11:47Speaker 1: is it?
- 11:49Speaker 3: No, not anything much stuper than about two inches. Cats
- 11:51Speaker 3: don't want to sink into their litter. They like the
- 11:54Speaker 3: way the litter feels, but they don't want to sink
- 11:56Speaker 3: down into it. And cats are very, very particular. If
- 11:59Speaker 3: you see a cat that doesn't use the litter box,
- 12:01Speaker 3: doesn't hit the litter box, people are like, oh you miss.
- 12:04Speaker 3: No cats don't miss Cats go in the litter box,
- 12:06Speaker 3: dig a hole, look around, turn around, take a look
- 12:09Speaker 3: at where the hole is. Dig it a little bit more,
- 12:11Speaker 3: look again, make two or three attemps, and they're like, Okay,
- 12:14Speaker 3: finally that looks good. So cats are really fastidious and
- 12:17Speaker 3: really particular. So if your litter isn't clean, if your
- 12:20Speaker 3: litter is too deep, if they don't like the way
- 12:21Speaker 3: the litter smells, if they don't like the kind of
- 12:23Speaker 3: litter they like that. Don't like that another cat use it?
- 12:26Speaker 3: Already there's one hundred and fifty regions that cats go nope,
- 12:30Speaker 3: I'm out. So really important that we give cats all
- 12:33Speaker 3: the good options so that we keep them in the
- 12:35Speaker 3: litter box. And like I said at the beginning, this
- 12:37Speaker 3: accounts for the number one behavior issue that we see
- 12:39Speaker 3: in cats, and a three percent of those are medical.
- 12:42Speaker 3: So not all of the things that we see in
- 12:46Speaker 3: cat litter issues our behavioral We always give the cats
- 12:49Speaker 3: the benefit of the doubt first, or at least we
- 12:50Speaker 3: should and do a ur analysis and an ultra sounda sea.
- 12:54Speaker 3: Do they have stones, do they have crystals? Do they
- 12:55Speaker 3: have a urinary attraction infection? And most urinary attraction infections
- 12:59Speaker 3: and cats the first time they have one, maybe even
- 13:01Speaker 3: the second or third are not bacterial, So your veterinarian
- 13:04Speaker 3: may not prescribe an antibiotic. We see beletter infections and
- 13:07Speaker 3: dogs and horses and cows and humans, but in cats
- 13:10Speaker 3: they're almost never bacterial to start with. So it's almost
- 13:14Speaker 3: always something related to a dietary thing that we can
- 13:16Speaker 3: adjust with the prescription diets that we have on the market.
- 13:19Speaker 3: So important that you follow your veterinarian's recommendations. If they
- 13:23Speaker 3: do prescribe a food it's low and magnesium and phosphorus.
- 13:26Speaker 3: It adjusts the pH it helps to reduce the urinary
- 13:29Speaker 3: tract infections that we see in cats. Well, I hate
- 13:32Speaker 3: to see the word infection because it's actually a urinary
- 13:34Speaker 3: tract issue. We now call it low feline lower urinary
- 13:38Speaker 3: tract disease FLUTD, and there's other names for it as well.
- 13:42Speaker 3: So it is not really a bacterial infection to start with,
- 13:45Speaker 3: and we can manage it many times of diet because
- 13:48Speaker 3: of the adjustment of the pH and the mineral content
- 13:51Speaker 3: of the food. But those foods are prescription and they
- 13:53Speaker 3: do cost a little bit more. They cost a lot
- 13:55Speaker 3: less than ending up with your cat with a urinary blockage,
- 13:58Speaker 3: which we do see in male we almost ever seen
- 14:01Speaker 3: in female cats that we can see in mail cats
- 14:03Speaker 3: pretty commonly, and those get into the thousands of dollars
- 14:06Speaker 3: with every episode. So really important that you follow your
- 14:09Speaker 3: VETS instructions because spending an extra few bucks on a
- 14:12Speaker 3: bag of food and keeping you out of a hospital
- 14:14Speaker 3: situation which is thousands of dollars is a real good
- 14:17Speaker 3: exchange for a payoff.
- 14:19Speaker 1: Fantastic guidance as always from doctor Marty Greer of Checkout Veterinary.

- 15:07Speaker 1: that's got to be an easy one.
- 15:08Speaker 2: There's a lot to this is for sure.
- 15:11Speaker 1: And doctors started off with an email about a product
- 15:15Speaker 1: and I hadn't heard of it before. One of the
- 15:17Speaker 1: things I do hear about. And we're talking about some
- 15:19Speaker 1: medical conditions and other things with your cats. I have
- 15:23Speaker 1: seen these cat litter and I think a bunch of
- 15:25Speaker 1: different brands offered have like health monitoring kitty litter.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Is there any benefit to that?
- 15:32Speaker 1: Is that is that a gimmick or is that something
- 15:34Speaker 1: that legitimately could be useful in certain situations.
- 15:38Speaker 3: No, it's legitimately useful. So if it picks up things
- 15:41Speaker 3: like glucose in the urine or blood in the urine,
- 15:44Speaker 3: it's pretty useful. And it's definitely a thing. So if
- 15:47Speaker 3: you have a cat that you're concerned about that's had
- 15:49Speaker 3: a history of UTIs, it would be a really useful
- 15:52Speaker 3: product to be having in your litter box so that
- 15:55Speaker 3: if the cat does develop blood in the air and
- 15:57Speaker 3: that's your first indicator of a problem, it'll There's also
- 16:00Speaker 3: pH changes that will happen with litter, but generally it's
- 16:04Speaker 3: blood that it picks up on those tests on the
- 16:07Speaker 3: litter change color change thing. So I would definitely use
- 16:10Speaker 3: it in a household where you had an issue. The
- 16:12Speaker 3: biggest trouble with multiple cat households, and many people that
- 16:16Speaker 3: have cats have multiple cats because they're like potato chips.
- 16:18Speaker 3: You can't. I think when you buy a cat or
- 16:22Speaker 3: adopt a cat, it's a good idea to have more
- 16:24Speaker 3: than one at a time. We talked about this on
- 16:26Speaker 3: a previous show, having two kittens adopted simultaneously, even if
- 16:29Speaker 3: they're not littermates do really well together. So the tricky
- 16:33Speaker 3: part if you have a cat that's not using the
- 16:36Speaker 3: litter box or a cat that's having urinary issues and
- 16:38Speaker 3: there's blood in the urine, is figure out which cat
- 16:40Speaker 3: it is. So that's the challenge because you you know
- 16:44Speaker 3: how many cats do you have. If you have six cats,
- 16:45Speaker 3: you need to take them off to the vet and
- 16:47Speaker 3: have them do urinis. That it's a little pricey, So
- 16:52Speaker 3: it can be a good idea to separate the cats
- 16:54Speaker 3: temporarily so that you can have each one using their
- 16:57Speaker 3: own box and figure out who's got what going on.
- 17:00Speaker 3: And if people don't understand this, and I think it's
- 17:03Speaker 3: really important that they know this, cats don't urinate in
- 17:06Speaker 3: a little coup. For us when we do a year analysis,
- 17:09Speaker 3: they don't wipe back and they don't urinate in a
- 17:11Speaker 3: little cup. So if we do see them, we'll typically
- 17:14Speaker 3: ultra sell them, take a look at the bladder, see
- 17:16Speaker 3: if there's any crystals or stones in it that we
- 17:18Speaker 3: can see on ultrasound, and then with a needle introduced
- 17:20Speaker 3: into the bladder through the abdominal wall, we'll collect the sterile.
- 17:23Speaker 3: You're on sample. Now, it sounds icky and it sounds
- 17:27Speaker 3: like something if they told you that's how they were
- 17:29Speaker 3: in to collect, you're and you can't flip out. But
- 17:31Speaker 3: the cats see well the cats, they don't really care.
- 17:34Speaker 3: They're back and for a little alcohol them and be
- 17:36Speaker 3: boomed by the bay. And we've got a sample. So
- 17:39Speaker 3: it works really well. You don't have to chase your
- 17:41Speaker 3: cat around and try and figure out what sample to
- 17:43Speaker 3: take in. Just take your cap to the vet with
- 17:45Speaker 3: a full enough bladder. If you put them in the
- 17:47Speaker 3: carrier a few hours before the appointment, that can help.
- 17:49Speaker 3: And please, please please, if you have a cat that
- 17:51Speaker 3: has dress and anxiety going to the vat or traveling
- 17:53Speaker 3: in the car, talk to your vet about getting gap
- 17:56Speaker 3: a patent for them in advance of the appointment so
- 17:58Speaker 3: that you can give a dose the night before, want
- 18:00Speaker 3: to do just the morning of, and your cat will
- 18:01Speaker 3: be much more compliant and much more comfortable. Therefore, you
- 18:05Speaker 3: will be a lot more compliant and comfortable in making
- 18:08Speaker 3: that trip into the vet clinic because we shouldn't stress
- 18:11Speaker 3: them out.

- 18:17Speaker 1: dot com One final thing on this on this subject
- 18:20Speaker 1: is I know, like with our dog Homer, it seems weird,
- 18:24Speaker 1: but like anytime you know, any of us take the
- 18:26Speaker 1: dog out, when we come back in, we almost do
- 18:28Speaker 1: like a report, like I'll tell my wife, oh, I
- 18:31Speaker 1: you know, tinkle twice and did a number two? Like
- 18:33Speaker 1: we do that just just I think it's probably just
- 18:36Speaker 1: to kind of make sure that you know, he's getting older,
- 18:38Speaker 1: to make sure that he's doing what he needs to do.
- 18:39Speaker 1: And we're all kind of on the same page. Same
- 18:41Speaker 1: as important for casts to kind of keep track of
- 18:44Speaker 1: their their litter box usage. And it sounds gross, but
- 18:48Speaker 1: be a little observant, right absolutely.
- 18:51Speaker 3: Because those changes can be really important to know are
- 18:53Speaker 3: the tools normal, are they lose? Are they too hard?
- 18:56Speaker 3: Is their blood in it because they've had too heart
- 18:58Speaker 3: of a stool? You know what? What's the status of that?
- 19:01Speaker 3: Cats usually urinate only once or twice a day, and
- 19:04Speaker 3: the same with their stools, so they don't have the
- 19:06Speaker 3: frequencies that dogs do. And it is a little easier
- 19:08Speaker 3: to keep up with on the reports, but if you
- 19:11Speaker 3: have a problem, then start recording it so that your
- 19:13Speaker 3: veterinary clinic can have that information when you go in,
- 19:16Speaker 3: take in your calendar and say so, we've seen blood
- 19:19Speaker 3: miss stools three times, and it was associated with this
- 19:21Speaker 3: and this, and did it have any association with the
- 19:24Speaker 3: diet change or household changes. Putting up the Christmas tree,
- 19:27Speaker 3: Oh my god, that can totally stretch out the cat
- 19:29Speaker 3: because now you put it in the window where they
- 19:31Speaker 3: usually sit, and now I can't use my litter box.
- 19:34Speaker 3: So there's all kinds of things that happen in your life.
- 19:37Speaker 3: So be really observant because those keys are important and
- 19:40Speaker 3: it will save you money and time in diagnosing what's
- 19:42Speaker 3: going on with your cat.
