74. Dolphins Get a Wake-Up Call in Washington | Bo & Joe React to Joint Practice · Out to Pasture

• 0:07
[SPEAKER_00]: I'd welcome back out the pasture on the road, Joe, we're up in the Washington area, getting ready for the elephants and the Washington commanders on Friday.
• 0:17
[SPEAKER_00]: And I just went to the joint practice today.
• 0:19
[SPEAKER_00]: The one joint practice that they're having up here and then they'll take a day off tomorrow, they'll work on their own and then get ready for the game.
• 0:25
[SPEAKER_00]: And so, just want to get your thoughts on it.
• 0:29
[SPEAKER_00]: I was kind of paying attention to the defensive side of field, you kind of know when the offense was shot.
• 0:34
[SPEAKER_00]: of the field and there's there's two things, John, we've talked a lot about this team, what we like, what we're concerned about.
• 0:40
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think the areas of concern that we have were kind of put out to bear today, because I was watching the defensive backs against the commander's have stuff on digs, they have Terry McLaren, and they've got to stable full of good receivers.
• 0:57
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it was good for this team,
• 1:00
[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was good for these guys in that secondary to play against the quality of players that the commanders have and see that because they're going to have to see it and they're going to have to learn how to get better but you can't get better if you don't see it and you don't know what that is in the field right.
• 1:15
[SPEAKER_01]: So I think the practice they've had last couple of weeks against each other, a lot of guys in the same boat, a lot of guys trying to make teams trying
• 1:25
[SPEAKER_01]: uh... and they stepped up when they came up here to play the commander's your point of playing the experience team played a team full of a lot of free agents that are good football players and i thought they really got their feet wet i thought it was good for this team they got kicked around at times pretty good uh... and then there are a few guys that that that stepped up let's start on the offensive side of the ball um... i thought Caleb dug this who's now a starting wide receiver
• 1:52
[SPEAKER_01]: made some plays made some nice catches on the offensive side.
• 1:55
[SPEAKER_01]: You can see Malik Willis is looking for him, which right off the bat, third ground pick in this draft is huge in the way he's playing and his get his feet wet and learning to learn how to run his routes better.
• 2:08
[SPEAKER_01]: and I thought that was a good cut.
• 2:10
[SPEAKER_01]: There wasn't a whole lot of time today to throw the football.
• 2:13
[SPEAKER_01]: That was one of the things they got after, and they got after it's pretty good.
• 2:18
[SPEAKER_01]: But again, when Malik will, this has got time, he makes plays.
• 2:21
[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to be able to run.
• 2:22
[SPEAKER_01]: We saw him have to get out of the pocket a few times today, and I think that.
• 2:27
[SPEAKER_01]: overall bow obviously these are growing pains for this football team right now we shouldn't be surprised where they are right now where they're going to be a month from now will be completely different and and bow they got to find not only a starting line up but the back into this roster and it might not be here right now it might be another team.
• 2:45
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, look, they just let somebody go this week or this week and say, look, I, so this, it's a theory, well, it, look, he's not going to play for us.
• 2:53
[SPEAKER_00]: Let's get out and maybe bring someone in.
• 2:55
[SPEAKER_00]: I think there's going to be a lot of that where you, they determine, hey, look, this guy's not going to play.
• 2:59
[SPEAKER_00]: Let's cut, let's cut, let's, let them go and just get somebody else in and maybe you, maybe you're trying to get a, you get a guy that just kind of diamond in the rough that you didn't expect.
• 3:15
[SPEAKER_00]: Caleb Prick, Kidd and Proctor, and Aaron Brewer, you know, we're good.
• 3:21
[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's what about those guys.
• 3:24
[SPEAKER_00]: But I still a little concerned, I was watching Jonah and, you know, he whiffed a couple times and it looked kids.
• 3:29
[SPEAKER_00]: It's first time in live action really, at this point, with some of the players playing, you know, in kind of, they got some good veteran defense of tackles on the seam up there.
• 3:40
[SPEAKER_00]: But as a coach we'll tell you, you know, make the mistakes and the only way you're going to do it is see it Look at it work on it and get better and I think they'll do that along that that offensive line But it's so so the concerns we have was left side okay right side and I think I'm still right now on the right side
• 4:04
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so Coach Halfley's talked about this a lot and like he's aware of what he has There's no surprise on this thing, but his thing he must see guys bounce back If you have some bad plays you have a bad practice Let it go.
• 4:18
[SPEAKER_01]: Let it go move on.
• 4:19
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get better learn from it Middle toughness the whole deal about how I'm gonna get better after what I saw I hadn't seen this kind of stuff before and so we'll see how these guys bounce back on the offensive side from today
• 4:31
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so deep on the defensive side, I mainly stayed and watched that it was just what I expected I mean they have a lot of like I said they got a lot of good receivers and so you had it was Ethan Bonner, it was half out there, it was Ayn Anderson, Marshall, Marshall and those guys and so they saw, they saw a stable of really, really good receivers
• 4:52
[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes they were good, sometimes they were bad, but again, you know, Chris Johnson wasn't out there.
• 4:57
[SPEAKER_00]: We didn't get a chance to see him.
• 4:59
[SPEAKER_00]: But again, these guys are playing against these receivers that are really good receivers and they're going to learn from it.
• 5:04
[SPEAKER_00]: They made some good plays and sometimes they were just kind of caught with their pants down.
• 5:09
[SPEAKER_00]: But look we knew we knew like those two areas the the secondary and the and our wide receiver group is is really got to find somebody It's gonna stand up and be able to play.
• 5:19
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you gotta have two or three guys that can can play at the level you need to play and I right now I think and either one of those areas.
• 5:25
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think with that point yet
• 5:27
[SPEAKER_01]: I saw a little bit of the defense when I did.
• 5:29
[SPEAKER_01]: I got a lot of some coverage today.
• 5:31
[SPEAKER_01]: It was really good out of Pittsburgh, our rookie linebacker, a really cover well.
• 5:38
[SPEAKER_01]: And also had some blitzes, some real effective blitzes on the defense.
• 5:41
[SPEAKER_01]: Man, I thought he did a real nice job.
• 5:44
[SPEAKER_01]: And also in the middle.
• 5:46
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I tell you what, that is going to be one hell of a battle with Dotson and Rodriguez.
• 5:50
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Rodriguez is just getting better and better and looking real comfortable.
• 5:54
[SPEAKER_01]: Our sucker-round pick, he had his moments today too.
• 5:59
[SPEAKER_01]: So there's some guys that splash a little bit.
• 6:02
[SPEAKER_01]: But at the same time like you said I didn't think the past rush got there enough and second the second problem was when you have a lot of time to throw you're gonna complete passes Guys you're gonna get old and then 7 and 7 were guys are just you know like that and that's one of the reasons that the Jeff doesn't like to do 7 or 7's quarterbacks just stand there Pound them on the fucking guy gets open and yeah
• 6:22
[SPEAKER_00]: and you knock it in there and everyone thinks, oh, okay, it's a big touch down, but they did a good job walking our guys up front.
• 6:28
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
• 6:29
[SPEAKER_01]: Still got to get better and that's kind of what today was.
• 6:34
[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't something everybody's gonna write about tomorrow that they were horrible on those things.
• 6:38
[SPEAKER_01]: But I thought it was good man.
• 6:39
[SPEAKER_01]: I was work that they need a ball.
• 6:41
[SPEAKER_01]: You just can't play against your own guys.
• 6:43
  [SPEAKER_01]: Very misleading.
• 6:44
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm on what you're going to be seeing in the league and you got to keep moving.
• 6:47
[SPEAKER_01]: They stepped up the ladder today.
• 6:50
[SPEAKER_01]: It took a different step against a veteran commanders team that two years ago was in the NFC championship game.
• 6:57
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's a good team man and with their quarterback back, they're going to be, they could have a good year.
• 7:03
[SPEAKER_00]: And Jeff, Jeff Hattley dropped a little, you know, a little tidbit out there that he's expecting a link to get some play, get some play, and stuff.
• 7:12
[SPEAKER_00]: Except when you get, he says, look, it's not good.
• 7:14
[SPEAKER_00]: Don't set it in stone, don't get down, start chipping it in the, in Mount Rushmore.
• 7:19
[SPEAKER_00]: But I think it is, is what he talked about.
• 7:22
[SPEAKER_00]: leaning a little bit more to getting him some some reps and I think he needs to get reps as a as a starter at least It may be an every game, but at least two of these three games that they've got coming up in here You can't you can't put him out there week one without having game reps and starting a regular season game It just I can't see that happen
• 7:43
[SPEAKER_01]: And the other thing is, for the Malik Willis conversation, we're going to continue to have here in South Florida.
• 7:48
[SPEAKER_01]: Is he the quarterback now and is he the quarterback of the future?
• 7:52
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a legit question, but he needs some help and he needs some reverb receivers to get open.
• 7:58
[SPEAKER_01]: So, separation and make some plays forms and balls got battered down because of tight coverage.
• 8:04
[SPEAKER_01]: He just can't do it by himself.
• 8:06
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, so I'm looking to at the leadership of this team, the veteran leadership and you got the guys Brooks and Brewer and all these guys on the defense that are, you know, they're a light in mind and they're really bonding, making everybody bond together and who's a group in the offense you think that's kind of leading that charge.
• 8:24
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I think Brewer number one.
• 8:25
[SPEAKER_01]: I think a Brewer and the respect he gets is a guy coming off and all proceeds and I think Malik will it's done a really good job now.
• 8:32
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, and Malik's, you know, it can be frustrating I'm sure he gets frustrated out there too because let's see his guys run better routes who wants blocking around him Maybe he's missing some things, but he's really starting to take a leader ship
• 8:45
[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's he's gotten better and more comfortable in this offense over the first couple of weeks.
• 8:49
[SPEAKER_01]: So I think he has, I think A-chan is really trying to change a little bit and not only be one of the best running backs, but also be a leader with when talking.
• 8:59
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he hasn't been like in the first, his first couple of years, look, he's produced, you can't argue about his production.
• 9:05
[SPEAKER_00]: But he's been kind of a guy within the background, kind of keeping quiet.
• 9:08
[SPEAKER_00]: And because there was other guys in that, there were other guys.
• 9:11
  [SPEAKER_00]: So big personality.
• 9:14
[SPEAKER_00]: And now he sees they're not here, and yeah, so he's stepping up and you can just, you know, you listen to him talk now, and you can feel he knows where he is, he knows how good he is, and he knows how good he can be.
• 9:26
[SPEAKER_00]: And so now he's got his voice that he can get up and stand it.
• 9:29
[SPEAKER_00]: Now you look, I can stand up front of you guys with impunity and say, hey, I know what we need to do, and I can help you get there.
• 9:36
[SPEAKER_01]: So I think I don't think leadership's a problem, it's growth in this team and how quickly will it happen out of, I call them the, the 21 draft picks over the last two years.
• 9:46
[SPEAKER_01]: We need growth a lot of them, hey, a lot of them are going to start, probably almost half of them are going to start or see a lot of playing time even more.
• 9:53
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's going to be their growth from this first draft of John Erick Sullivan and Chris Greer's last draft.
• 10:01
[SPEAKER_00]: So Joe, would you say that this joint practice, this one joint practice is going to have was good for this team and a big step forward all day?
• 10:09
[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was great and by the way, it wasn't surprised.
• 10:12
[SPEAKER_01]: I just felt that, hey, for both teams, they need to work too.
• 10:16
[SPEAKER_01]: They're trying to get to a different level, the commanders.
• 10:20
[SPEAKER_01]: and then this team just need to take a step up and they need to see a lot better competition both they saw today.
• 10:25
  [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, good, good.
• 10:26
[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, talking about competition, in more saw grass, autumn, all Joe, we always talk about them.
• 10:31
[SPEAKER_00]: Chris, that can sales service, thank you.

[SPEAKER_00]: And how about our guy Bobby at Villa Tauy Bakery in the VillaTauyBakery.com, sends Bakery goods, the best Italian Bakery goods all over the country when they get through their fresh and all that.
• 11:01
[SPEAKER_01]: And just the coffee cakes.
• 11:03
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I hate, you got a lot of great stuff.
• 11:05
[SPEAKER_01]: The coffee cakes, especially the double chocolate.
• 11:08
[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it's coconut for you.
• 11:10
[SPEAKER_01]: They got a lot of them and they do come fresh.
• 11:12
  [SPEAKER_01]: and they stay fresh.

[SPEAKER_00]: Man, they're all about it.
