- 0:06Welcome to the Treehouse Football Podcast, Episode number one, season number one.
- 0:13I'm not gonna focus too much on the season number one because I don't know
- 0:15if we'll you know, go into a second season or not. But Treehouse
- 0:19Football Podcast number one, Yeah, welcome, Welcome to it. I'm Dan
- 0:23ol Malley along with Trey Trenholme. You know, I'm gonna I'm gonna rephrase
- 0:27that, I'm Dan o'm malley along with UT alum Trey Trenholme, and not
- 0:37Texas State but Southwest Texas State alum Raj Sharmah. There you go. I
- 0:42didn't throw mine in because I went to UT Arlington for all of a year
- 0:46and a half and we didn't even have a football team, So why even
- 0:49mention it? Unless we start doing a Treehouse Wheelchair Basketball podcast. My college
- 0:56has no bearing in this show. The comment is it? The comments?
- 1:00Is that what you guys know? Well, it's the it's the It's Uta
- 1:03Mavericks, Mavericks. Okay, the comments. The wheelchair team is unless they've
- 1:08changed. It is the moving maths, the moving maths. All right,
- 1:11Okay, don't they they have a pretty good basketball team, now, don't
- 1:15they? They do? They do? I I'll admit I haven't followed it
- 1:18a whole lot. I'm not sure who was more surprised about the new basketball
- 1:22arena, the basketball team or anyone that ever went to UTA and we had
- 1:27a nice little upset over Baylor. Southwest Texas or Texas State defeated Baylor in
- 1:34their home open. Well, that's exciting. Maybe we can get into that
- 1:37when we touch on the college side of football growing up in the all New
- 1:41Treehouse Football podcast The Treehouse, We've decided to branch out because we're not busy
- 1:47enough, or we apparently don't say enough. As it is twice a week
- 1:51during the Treehouse Podcast, we feel the need to also flood your ears with
- 1:56our sports thoughts. So here we are. I like, go when you
- 1:59said we're not busy enough, and I just thought Trey's head turned like eiel
- 2:04Mally, I haven't slept in three days. I feel like elvit's on a
- 2:08bender. Well, that means you probably appear to have more energy than the
- 2:14Giants offensive line did this last week for you. Speaking of surprises, was
- 2:21anybody's surprised by the Cowboys victory Sunday Night in the season opener over the Giants?
- 2:27Forty to nothing. How could you not be? I mean, I
- 2:31don't know about surprised, more of like the just the moments that we're just
- 2:38never ending in the game, Like the moments of like oh okay, I
- 2:42didn't see that coming. Oh I didn't know that was gonna happen. Oh,
- 2:45just that over and over again. By the end of it, I
- 2:46was tired. Well, I was tired after the first I'd say six or
- 2:53seven minutes. However long it took for the Giants to march down the field
- 2:58and then the Cowboys to block that kick, return it for a touchdown,
- 3:01and when Trey and I were texting each other, missed the extra point to
- 3:06take a six nothing lead, to which Trey responded, that was the most
- 3:09Cowboys sequence ever. And he was not wrong. Right then and there,
- 3:15I thought, oh no, they've picked up right where they left off last
- 3:20season, which is do something good and then just look like a total idiot
- 3:23right after it. Yeah, but I mean, to their credit, you
- 3:25have the kid Aubrey I think is his last name, that there is a
- 3:30place kicker now has in God love him for it. Had never kicked in
- 3:34the NFL. I don't think he kicked in college. He was uh,
- 3:39he was a soccer player, and he was drafted in the first round of
- 3:42Major League Soccer and then I think he went to the USFL for Birmingham because
- 3:47he was in the USFL and May missed only one field goal attempt that previous
- 3:53season, and to his credit, he missed that one. Because I'm sure
- 3:58this is what the conversation was on the sideline when that happened, because when
- 4:01I heard like his background, you know, the USFL is vastly different than
- 4:06the NFL. Right, So hey, hang on, Trey, let's look
- 4:10that. Yeah, that that there is a that is a hot take there.
- 4:15That is a John Madden take. That That is the kind of professional
- 4:18take you will get here on the Treehouse Football podcast. Right. The NFL
- 4:24is harder than the USFL. Let's just send the show right there. They're
- 4:28both, they're both, they're both professional football. I'm just saying those are
- 4:30very John Madden as like two of these, out of these two teams,
- 4:33one's gotta win. Like, that's a that's the Madden take. Yeah.
- 4:38The only thing you're missing is is the marker on the screen and a Turkey
- 4:42leg and athletes would endorsement, right, So there's four things. Yeah,
- 4:47and then you know, he misses the one kick and that's his first time
- 4:50to kick in the NFL. And I'm sure he went to the sideline.
- 4:53They're like, you know, he can still fire you right like like probably
- 4:58again, and then we will leave you here. There is there is precedent
- 5:02in in Cowboys history where you f up bad enough, they will not let
- 5:06you on the plane to go back to Texas. Yeah, it's one of
- 5:11those like you're gonna be a giant or homeless, so don't don't miss another
- 5:14kick. And then I was reading the stats of the game, and it
- 5:19was, you know, the blocked the block field goal for the touchdown return,
- 5:24and the shutout and then this and and all of those things, and
- 5:28they combined it to no other NFL team has ever suffered all of those things
- 5:31in one season, let alone in one game. So who gets who gets
- 5:36more credit for them the Cowboys for having forced it upon the Giants or the
- 5:42Giants just kind of looking like a Benny Hill skit. I want to see
- 5:48that game set to that music. I like that because you could have just
- 5:54had you could have had the old, the old Benny Hill music playing just
- 6:00on repeat of watching watching Danny Dimes run around all over the field away from
- 6:05the Cowboys defense. I just I flashed back to last week with one of
- 6:13the ESPN guys whose theory was to run at to do everything at Michael Parsons,
- 6:19Like that's what he wants. That was his suggestion to every team is
- 6:23you want to go directly to him. And I'm like, after watching that
- 6:25game, I'm like, I'd like for you to just say that again,
- 6:29because that didn't seem to work if that was your philosophy on how to defeat
- 6:34the Cowboys or or beat their defense is to run at, run the ball
- 6:39at Michael Parsons. The other surprise in this game was that Trey, I
- 6:43think you and I in our little text exchange during the game, we touched
- 6:46on this as well. So the Cowboys throw up forty points, but if
- 6:50we're being honest, the offense was kind of me, Oh yeah, yeah,
- 6:58I don't I don't think that was disputed in any way. I don't
- 7:01know. It's just typically what you would do is if for some reason you
- 7:04were just going through the box scores or you didn't have to watch the game,
- 7:08and you see the Cowboys beat the Giants on the road forty to nothing
- 7:11on Sunday night, You're like, oh my god, their offense clearly just
- 7:14lit it up, when in reality, no, they just they just kind
- 7:17of went about the day just like oh, we're here too, just kind
- 7:19of hanging out. The offensive stats for the game were very pedestrian for Dallas.
- 7:26Like when you look at the score, do you go forty nothing?
- 7:28You think you know, they would have you know, Dak would have thrown
- 7:30for four hundred yards and they had all these standout performances and you just didn't.
- 7:34I mean, and that's you know, the Giants that first drive up
- 7:39until that last sequence, they were moving the ball at will and you're going,
- 7:42all right, this is gonna be you know, one of those things
- 7:45that's gonna be back and forth, back and forth, and you know,
- 7:46come down to a field goal, and then it's like and then you go,
- 7:51well, were the cowboys? Like? You know, sometimes they'll run
- 7:54set plays, like the first ten plays of offense are already scheduled. I
- 7:57don't know if they do that on the defense where they do, and that
- 8:00then all of a sudden they made adjustments and they just overwhelmed the Giants.
- 8:03I don't because it's like, what's that field goal got blocked? It's like
- 8:07the entire will just got sucked out of that team and then it was then
- 8:11it was the Benny Hill Show of just and then poor. I've never thought
- 8:15I would feel sorry for Daniel Jones, but by the end of that game,
- 8:18I'm Dan and I are texting, I'm going like they got to take
- 8:20him out, like yeah, it's like they've got one hundred and sixty something
- 8:24million and wrapped up in that guy. Yeah, and he to his like
- 8:28he just took a beating. He did and he could have come out looking
- 8:33way worse. Despite the fact that Trey you're saying you feel bad for Daniel
- 8:37Jones and how he's running for his life in that game, I feel bad
- 8:39for Daniel Jones because to me, I can't look to me, Daniel Jones
- 8:43looks like a Beaker on assessment. So I pondered this question and I see,
- 8:56now, yeah, I can't either. It's kind of like, uh
- 8:58so, in addition into Daniel Jones looking like Beaker from Sesame Street, it
- 9:03is Sesame Street, right or is it? Or the Muppet Show? The
- 9:05Muppet Show? Yeah, all right. In addition to Daniel Jones looking like
- 9:09Beaker from the Muppets. Uh old Giants coach Tom Coughlin. One day watching
- 9:18a game, I saw Tom Coughlin and all of a sudden, all I
- 9:22could see was he looked exactly like Jeff Dunham's Walter Muppet, sort of like
- 9:31how uh, sort of sort of like, how got Daniel Baker Jones?
- 9:39You've got Tom, don't call me Walter Coughlin and Sean Blue Steel Peyton.
- 9:52Once you see those things, you can't unsee them, so like I remember,
- 9:56yeah, I just I was wondering if there's something because I was looking
- 10:01at Daniel Jones and then I was like, is there something with the Giants
- 10:03helmets? Because it almost gave him stupid face? Like yeah, Eli,
- 10:07it's like Giants helmets. I think you really as soon as as soon as
- 10:11a human quarterback puts on that Giant's helmet, they just immediately go dirt.
- 10:22I just a buddy of mine is from Yonkers, New York, and he's
- 10:26a Giants fan forever, and this is when like and we trash talk every
- 10:33single time the Cowboys and the Giants play. And I didn't get a response
- 10:39back from him for this game. I just I texted. All I said
- 10:43is after and again, like you said, after that block field goal,
- 10:48the not only did the will go, I think you could feel the energy
- 10:50get sucked out of that stadium. I think I think at that point,
- 10:54if you have any Giants fans after that game or actually somewhere in the middle
- 10:58of the third quarter, was the time too, as they say, check
- 11:03on your Giants friends. Yes, and so I just after that, after
- 11:07that block field goal, Uh, I go, man, you guys are
- 11:09looking and I just stopped there the ellipses ouch. Uh. And then we
- 11:16missed that the extra point and I got nothing back, and I was like,
- 11:20oh, this is interesting. He normally this would be right, this
- 11:22would be the appropriate time for him to go. And you were saying,
- 11:26and then obviously he would have been correct. Yeah, And then the rest
- 11:30of the game happened, and then he just exactly so, just so,
- 11:35just when you thought things couldn't get any worse for the city and state of
- 11:39New York and their football teams, Monday night comes around. Yes, and
- 11:46the team that the Cowboys play next, the Jets. Their big splash offseason
- 11:50move is getting Aaron Rodgers. They they they pulled Brett Farve, you know,
- 11:56part two and build the Packers quarterback over to the Jets. And how
- 12:01long ended the game was? It was it even five minutes. The most
- 12:03running Aaron Rodgers did before he tore what we think is a torn achilles was
- 12:09him carrying the flag running out onto the field during the pregame stuff. Yeah,
- 12:16that you know, And and I feel I feel bad for him.
- 12:20I mean, poor guy. I mean really, here's why, Like he's
- 12:24done this whole Ayawaska journey and apparently he used to be a tremendous a hole
- 12:28and now he's like gone back to like former players in Green Bay and like
- 12:33apologized and you know, he's got his his his spiritual side is there.
- 12:37Like he's apologized to his family, like he really Yeah have they Have they
- 12:41accepted it? Because I believe so. Yeah, because even even the brother.
- 12:45Yeah, so that the whole thing, because he was on the Bachelor.
- 12:46When he's on the Bachelor and he was his brother, Jordan Rodgers,
- 12:50and he ended up marrying the girl from Dallas. Yeah, and like and
- 12:54one of the girls that he took home is like footy, think Aaron's gonna
- 12:56be here and he's like he hasn't been here in eight years. Still stop
- 12:58asking, Like, yeah, I think he's like he's I think he showed
- 13:01up to his family's thing for the holidays, like that was the thing.
- 13:05Uh, And like he here's his moment, like he's gone through the spiritual
- 13:09journey and I and I admire that, and I'm like, good for you.
- 13:13And he's made amends and and all of those goods. And he's got
- 13:16a new team. He just bought a new house, like eight million dollars
- 13:18new house. So it turns out you can make all the amends you want,
- 13:22but Carmen is still gonna get you. But the turf is a bitch.
- 13:28Yeah he didn't. He didn't make amends with the astro turf Diddy Somewhere
- 13:33somewhere in somewhere in that stadium, the turf monster, the turf Monster of
- 13:39New York was like, m he didn't apologize to me. Been playing on
- 13:43grass this whole time, Hum, bitch somewhere below the turf monsters saying,
- 13:50now is my time I've been waiting for you, keep calling me fake grass?
- 13:58How's your foot like? And then that moment hit and you could see
- 14:03it on his face, and I was like yeah, and they you know,
- 14:07the whole game, just speculation until the press conference when it's like it
- 14:09looks it doesn't look good. I remember the next the next morning, seeing
- 14:15a slow motion replay and they had it zoomed in on his lower leg and
- 14:18you could see the line down the back of his leg just kind of just
- 14:22kind of wobble in a way that is in no way natural. Yeah.
- 14:24Everyone looking at that's like, yeah, he's done. Yeah. And then
- 14:28you can see the if you watch it again, and I'm sure you can
- 14:31go back and look at you can see the recoil rolls up into into the
- 14:35back of his leg and and and then his and then just his face was
- 14:39like I'm done. And somebody I can't remember I was watching ESPN his earliest
- 14:46morning and they're like, well's he's definitely gonna come back, Like this is
- 14:48not the way he wanted it to go. It's a really really hard injury
- 14:52didn't come back from. Yeah, it's a full year type of situation.
- 14:54Yeah, and then to and then to get back and then just the trepidation
- 14:58of getting back on that uh and then yeah, I you know as much
- 15:03he's gonna have it, He's gonna have about a year to make amends with
- 15:05the turf Monster. Yeah, that's what I'm like. Maybe he can go
- 15:09on another iowaspan journey and then the turf Monster and him can hug it out
- 15:15on on a celestial plane somewhere. Uh, and then maybe next year he
- 15:18comes back and actually last longer than four plays. Jets fans are a special
- 15:26bunch because I don't know any Like they were so excited before the season started.
- 15:31I mean, and if it is the most Jets thing ever of you've
- 15:37just you've got arguably, you know, one of the best quarterbacks ever played
- 15:41the game, and you're like, oh, this is our year, this
- 15:46is our chance. We've in four plays j e. But for the undrafted
- 15:56kid from from Stephen Fos and to to win that game, uh in overtime,
- 16:03like that was like if you if you saw the Hard Knocks story about
- 16:07him, he basically forced his way onto that team, say forced or forrested
- 16:12because he don't no, no, he know, but he both I like
- 16:17football. He forced his way on basically onto that team, and and you
- 16:22know they got the win, and then that was I guess a morale was
- 16:26I don't know what they're gonna do in that position that that quarterback is clearly
- 16:30uh eleven years old, he's eleven years old and that but that, but
- 16:34that was the best Zach Martin's played. Like I was actually I think that
- 16:38I watched some of that game. You said, Zach Martin, you mean
- 16:42Zech Wilson, Zach Wilson. Yeah, and uh, I mean compared,
- 16:47But to be fair trade, Zach Martin also did the really good in the
- 16:48Cowboys games. And I might take him as quarterback over Zach Wilson. But
- 16:55look, if you're the Jets, all options are on the table because the
- 17:00truth what exach, what is this a second or third year? Uh?
- 17:04Two? Yeah, I mean the good thing here about the Treehouse Football Podcast
- 17:08is we're not gonna bar you with a bunch of knowledge. No, we're
- 17:12not gonna borry you with a bunch of knowledge and hard information. A lot
- 17:15of us gonna be conjecture and a lot of just you know, feelings.
- 17:18Yeah, you can go to you can go listen to that crap anywhere else.
- 17:22This is gonna be fun, exactly. This is gonna be fun.
- 17:26Yeah, And it was Zach Wilson. You could have said, Zach Morris
- 17:27I would be like, they look the same. I don't even care.
- 17:30But they both got saved by the belt. I don't care. Out,
- 17:33Yeah, they have the head coach turns and he's just on that that the
- 17:37cordless phone. I gotta do what he just freezes time. Yes, he
- 17:45has to turn to one of the cheerleaders and make sure she's off the caffeine
- 17:48pills before he can get into the game. But I mean, yeah,
- 17:53year two and good, and I hope they find a replacement rather quickly because
- 18:00he won the game. And that was a team effort. Again, you
- 18:03could feel that, like that fourth that when he got off the field,
- 18:07when Aaron Rodgers got off the field, that whole stadium was like, and
- 18:10so do we go now to beat traffic? Like that? That was a
- 18:12sense of the building. And then they did what they did and they had
- 18:15that one again. And Wilson, I don't know his first name, but
- 18:19uh, that catch in the end zone, which that that bobbled uh catch
- 18:25that he just caught laying on his back on the ground was brilliant highlight real
- 18:29number number two. I think it's is what it took over. Well,
- 18:32you know what's sad about that is I didn't even see that. In some
- 18:34of the clips on social media the next morning, it was all Aaron Rodgers
- 18:38leg recoiling. Yeah, yeah, that's that's the that's the story, right.
- 18:42But I hope Rodgers Achilles going the way of a piano chord. But
- 18:48yeah, but what if this was like and and let's let's see if we
- 18:51can call this what if it is one of those great moments in football history
- 18:55where this kid who's the backup to Aaron Rodgers, who got calling to this
- 18:59game, who is just literally I don't know how he got out of the
- 19:03sixth grade to play that night. I don't know what time it's bedtime is,
- 19:06but it's called it's called the permission slip roun. Okay, we didn't
- 19:11we didn't have those. We had permission to do nothing. So and then
- 19:15he and he wins. What if it's like this great I don't know,
- 19:18what if he like what if they go all the way, like they go
- 19:22to the dance? Like what if he is the they're going to go to
- 19:23the dance because it's the sixth grade social it's a mom mommy sundance. You
- 19:36just see the image of here's some you know, some lady over there on
- 19:38the sideline looking at her watch, going your bedtimes midnight, Zach, you
- 19:42better wrap this up over time. That's just the reporter from ESPN's like,
- 19:48I'm gonna ask you four questions and it's night, nighttime. And it's not
- 19:53a towel that the trainer pulls out to wipe his face. It's it's just
- 19:56blanky. Let see the press conference where he's got a juice box in front
- 20:00of him and his mouth piece is an actual passifier. The NFL really will
- 20:11put those logos on anything? Is that a binky? One? Last one,
- 20:18last piece of Cowboys information before before we move on to the college side
- 20:23of things. Here on the very first episode of the Treehouse Football podcast,
- 20:27and that is an allegation against Jerry Jones for making racially charged comments. There's
- 20:34a new lawsuit that's been filed against the NFL by a reporter named Jim Trotter,
- 20:40and he attributes a secondhand racist remark to Bill's owner Terry Pigoula. As
- 20:47to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, Trotter makes a first hand allegation of inappropriate racially
- 20:52charged commentary. Do you guys hear about this ship? Yes? Yeah.
- 20:56Beginning at paragraph one ten of the complaint, Trotter explains that in the aftermath
- 21:02of John Gruden's departure from the Raiders in October twenty twenty one, after the
- 21:04release of various inappropriate emails, Trotter planned to share on NFL Now a racist
- 21:08statement that allegedly had been made by Jones to Trotter at the twenty twenty one
- 21:15Pro Bowl Hall of Fame game between the Steelers and the Cowboys. Trotter,
- 21:19while on the field before the game, was congregating with other reporters. The
- 21:22complaint alleges at one point, mister Trotter was speaking to Will McClay, the
- 21:27Cowboys vice president of player personnel, about the fact that NFL teams tend not
- 21:33to draft many players out of historically black colleges and universities also known as HBCUs,
- 21:37and whether that might be due to the lack of black people in personnel
- 21:41decision making positions like general managers. Mister Jones joined the conversation and mister Trotter
- 21:47asked why teams had so few black decision makers, and he says mister Jones
- 21:52dodged the question and stated that players get a large percentage of league revenue and
- 21:56majority of players are black. In effect, mister Jones was stating that black
- 22:00people should be quote be happy for what they have and not seek further advancement
- 22:03of their rights, positions in society, or a quality and mister Jones.
- 22:08Mister Trotter reiterated his question, to which mister Jones responded, I'm starting to
- 22:12feel a little defensive. However, notwithstanding jones previous answer on history of conduct,
- 22:18Trotter made it clear that he was not attacking him or even speaking about
- 22:21the Cowboys, but just asking about the league in general, and then,
- 22:23onto paragraph one sixteen of the complaint, mister Jones finally responded, quote,
- 22:27if blacks feels some kind of way, they should buy their own team and
- 22:32hire who they want to hire. This is the point at which I would
- 22:36like to point out that Jerry Jones has denied the allegation and said that it
- 22:41is inaccurate, and as far as the Bill's owner, he has said it's
- 22:45completely untrue on his end of things. You know, I don't think this
- 22:52story will gain any traction, and it's the same thing. It's why,
- 22:56you know, in the off season, when the pictures surfaced of Jerry Young
- 23:00Jerry Jones at the when they were integrating his school in Arkansas, and he
- 23:06you know, everyone tried to make a big deal out of it. But
- 23:08at the end of the day, I don't think the story has any traction
- 23:11because I think in general most people assume that Jerry Jones is kind of a
- 23:15racist. Thank you, Yes we do. He's an eight year old Andrew
- 23:19Arkansas. He's you know, that's that's not that's not shocking. The only
- 23:23reason it's the headline is because he owns the Cowboys. I guarantee you there's
- 23:27another eighty year old man in Arkansas right now saying the same stuff and no
- 23:32one shocked by it because it's an eight year old whit guy in Arkansas.
- 23:34No, there's there's also a million eighty year old men across this country.
- 23:38When that statement was made, when I know, yeah, so, uh
- 23:44what. Anytime stuff like this comes out, it just takes me back to
- 23:48when Bill Burr was talking about the the former owner of uh gosh, I
- 23:59think it was Golden State. Uh when when all the racist about Donald Sterling
- 24:03the Clippers, yeahs the Clippers. Yeah, when he when he said all
- 24:08the things he said and Bill came out and was like, Yeah, was
- 24:11anybody surprised. I would. It's like if if if he was at his
- 24:15age and how he grew up, if he wasn't racist, I'd be stunned.
- 24:18Yeah, you're right, I think that would be more surprising. The
- 24:22other way. The thing I think is always interesting is the Cowboys. Everything
- 24:26is under under is under a scope. You know, it's under a magnifying
- 24:30glass. Everything's always blown up because it's the Cowboys. And it's no different
- 24:34with Jerry Jones, except some of the Cowboys players that are not able to
- 24:41withstand some of the controversy many have over the years. Sometimes they don't,
- 24:45like I don't think uh Terrence Williams ever truly recovered from falling off that scooter
- 24:49in Frisco. And I mean like the actual two wheel razor scooter, not
- 24:55like an actual motorized scooter. Anyway. Yeah, I aggress No matter what
- 25:00controversy has ever popped up in front of or behind Jerry Jones, He's always
- 25:04been able to skate by it, slip through it, whatever it is people
- 25:10talk about. You know, Donald Trump being the teflon don Jerry Jones is
- 25:14more slippery than any other sports owner than any other eighty year old man making
- 25:19questionable comments or doing questionable things. Honestly, at the end of the day,
- 25:26Jerry Jones to me is kind of like a dolphin. He's horning any
- 25:29slippery Well. I'll tell you why Ilay was compared Jerry Jones too, and
- 25:33it's because their same agent from the same city is Bill Clinton, like talking
- 25:37about like it's just everything just kind of rolls off like like he'll be it
- 25:42might be in a in an s storm for a little bit, but at
- 25:45the end of the day, he's gonna get through it. And I think
- 25:48part of the reason why the people that might get taken out oh yeah,
- 25:51got him. And I think part of the reason why is one's popularity and
- 25:55two at the end of the day, he's kind of likable. I don't
- 26:00I don't know. If I don't know, if Jerry Jones isn't any way
- 26:02likable, I wouldn't say that. I would just say that it's not shocking.
- 26:07Like when I saw the picture, like the same picture that Trey was
- 26:10talking about of the of when they were integrating to school, the first thing
- 26:14I saw was the kid with a cigarette, like like they could smoke then
- 26:18like like that was my I wasn't wasn't the only change that was happening at
- 26:23the time. Yes, there was a no smoking policy apparently went up,
- 26:27but that's what I because that when it when it came, and not to
- 26:33take it to a serious note, but when it comes to racism and and
- 26:37things like that, I'm forty I'll be forty eight this year. I've I've
- 26:41I've dealt with it a lot and nothing stuns me. So when I hear
- 26:47this stuff and I'm like, okay, yeah, I mean, unless the
- 26:49league does something about it, then bravo. But nobody else is gonna do
- 26:53anything. It's not gonna gain any traction just because I go, oh yeah,
- 26:57look who said it well and well, And it's also just it's also
- 27:00just an allegation. As far as we know, there's no audio of this
- 27:03there you know there's this, there's no video of it. So it's basically
- 27:07it's a it's a he said, he said type of situation. One of
- 27:10you's a reporter, one's a billionaire owner in the NFL. Who do you
- 27:12think is going out ahead exactly? Who can who can buy the media enough
- 27:15to where this story gets buried? Every single time. And it's also the
- 27:18other white owner of another team is going, I didn't hear nothing, and
- 27:22they're like, oh, okay, that I got you. Uh. And
- 27:26it's when they call it a good old boys club, that's what they mean.
- 27:30It's it's they all have the same thought process. They all think the
- 27:33same way because they for us to think people evolve, they grow up that
- 27:42way in that isolated cocoon of billionaires and and and that society to think that
- 27:48they're just gonna wake up one day and evolve and go everything I've ever thought
- 27:52was wrong. It's kind of presumptuous on our part. And you think he's
- 27:56gonna skate this. Yeah, I I doubt like by a week from now
- 28:03this is even a story. I'm actually kind of with you. And ironically,
- 28:06that's the reason why I wanted to bring it up is because I bet
- 28:08by the time we record the next Free House Football podcast, yeah, it's
- 28:15not going to be a thing at all. I'm I'm honestly, I'm less
- 28:18curious about what possible or what alleged racist comments or racially charged comments Jerry Jones
- 28:26has. I'm more interested in the in the in the girl that said you're
- 28:30my father, Yeah, how do we? Yeah, what happened to that
- 28:34part? Like well, and there's also you know, there is a and
- 28:37it happened in the last week that there's also a sexual harassment lawsuit against Jerry
- 28:45that a judge said could could move forward. So it's not that Jerry's without
- 28:49problems. I just don't think this one because at the end of the day,
- 28:53and you know, I'm not much of a conspiracy theorist, but I
- 28:56you know, money and power NFL is such a big business. I mean,
- 29:02it is a juggernaut, and it is so tight end of every media
- 29:04outlet that at the end of the day, I think they can bury a
- 29:07story if it gain traction. But like I said, I think everyone just
- 29:12kind of goes, yeah, it's Jerry, you know, yeah, he's
- 29:15probably a racist, And kind of the what you're saying, Trey, is
- 29:18that Jerry Jones has a really big shovel. Oh yeah, can burry whatever
- 29:25he wants if he chooses. I think I also think Jerry Jones wakes up
- 29:29every morning and like reads these things and just all he says is like God,
- 29:32damn it, Scotch, Like that's like he blames all his problems on

- 30:15Welcome back to the Treehouse Football Podcast number one. Now that we've had our
- 30:22grubby Jerry Jones fingers all over the Dallas Cowboys week one, and I look
- 30:26ahead to week two against and Aaron Rodgers less New York Jets time. What's
- 30:34that, Trey? Oh, it's funny you're talking about Jerry Jones and how
- 30:40like he is like TEF one, nothing's gonna stick to him. And then
- 30:44you have, you know, on the other end of the spectrum. Have
- 30:47you all read about the Michigan State football coach Mel Tucker? No? What
- 30:51is this? Okay? So, now, I don't want to sound like
- 30:56I'm a complete sports moron when it comes to current events. I know something
- 30:59happened with Michigan State's head coach, but I don't know exactly, and I
- 31:03wasn't sure if it was related to the gymnastics controversy they had with the Michigan
- 31:07State doctor for the women's gymnastics scene, So I wasn't sure if those two
- 31:11were combined. So there's something new. Yes. So now the backdrop of
- 31:15this is the Larry Nasser situation in that Michigan State for years, knowingly or
- 31:21unknowingly, you know, was a haven for Larry Nasser to just do horrible
- 31:25things to girls and so, and there was a culture of cover up and
- 31:30everything else. So they brought in at oh what, well in sports,
- 31:33I mean that was gymnastics. But yeah, and so they brought in a
- 31:37woman to basically be the compliance officer, not only a Title nine compliance offers,
- 31:44to make sure that there was good reporting, that there was no retribution
- 31:48against people who were making claims anything else. Well, evidently she and Mel
- 31:52Tucker, the head football coach of Michigan State, became friends to the point
- 31:56where he was masturbating on while on the phone with her. Did you say
- 32:02they were friends? Well, they were friendly? I guess was this was
- 32:07this his really really horrible attempt at getting out of the friend zone. You
- 32:14know, I don't who knows. And and of all, I don't care
- 32:20if if she was begging you, you just like she is the compliant,
- 32:24like she's not going to lose in this situation. No, and I would,
- 32:29well, first of all, if I'm melt Tucker, the head football
- 32:31coach at Michigan State. The first thing I would be thinking of is my
- 32:35is my ten year, ninety five million dollar contract. The second thing I
- 32:39would be considering is if the title nine compliance officer for the university. If
- 32:46Trey, like you said, she was begging me, Oh yeah, I
- 32:50want you to do this, I want you to do that. I want
- 32:52you to do I would assume it's a test, and if I fail that
- 32:54test, I'm out of my ninety five million dollars. I'm not going to
- 32:58assume, oh yeah, she wants me. No, I'm gonna so much
- 33:00a test and I should pass it. I didn't know again, like with
- 33:04you, Dad, I didn't know which scandal we were talking about. So
- 33:07I read a little bit about this, and I think, what the the
- 33:09angle that met? I just love saying mel Tucker because it's just it's just
- 33:14such an old like nobody there's no fresh Mels coming out anymore, Like there's
- 33:17nobody nobody's naming a kid Mel anymore. It's like we're done with Mels,
- 33:22and Barbara's like there's no there's no more Rod Faith. I think I think
- 33:28what's old becomes new again. I think I think Melvin may make a comeback.
- 33:30Something I don't. I don't think. I don't think there's kids being
- 33:34born today, Like there's a guy has a daughter and he's like, you
- 33:37know the name of Ronda like that. I think those names are gone.
- 33:39But mel I now, I don't know how much of this is what his
- 33:44perception was, or what the truth is, or if it was just a
- 33:45bad breakup. The his take on it, this was a consensual phone sex
- 33:52thing between the fact that they were an item behind the scenes and he's he's
- 33:58married it, I believe, yes, and again again it goes back into
- 34:02the yes. But behind the scenes, I think it was, uh,
- 34:07we kept it a secret because she is the compliance officer, and that's why
- 34:13we kept it a secret. And I think when and also because he's married,
- 34:17so it would make sense if they were having a relationship to keep it
- 34:21quiet for those two reasons. And ninety five million dollars two okay, yeah,
- 34:28and in like the second year of that ten year, ninety five million
- 34:30dollar contract. But okay, yeah, well, well we'll say all of
- 34:36that stipulate you're still you're you're now the head coach of a major college football
- 34:43program. So obviously you have some semblance of intelligence and everything else. And
- 34:46you you're married, so you know that if stuff goes south, that you're
- 34:52dealing with someone who could absolutely wreck your life. Yes, but you also
- 34:57but you've also both of you guys have also just hit on everything beforehand.
- 35:01When you're like, they have the power to cover things up. There is
- 35:05a history of cover ups. There is a history of burying things. So
- 35:07when you see this, you're okay. First of all, men saying that
- 35:13he could possibly feel invincible. Yeah, and and and also when it comes
- 35:15to men being more intelligent when it comes to the fairst sex. Uh,
- 35:22I didn't say more. I didn't say more intelligent. No, no,
- 35:23And he's like for that situation said football terms. Yeah, you're like you
- 35:29like he got to where he is, he's got to be somewhat intelligent when
- 35:30it comes to like men and women, like we've started wars because of like
- 35:36for women's sake, like to garner their attention. We're not the brightest.
- 35:39When he will do pretty much anything at our disposal to get late. Yeah,
- 35:44there's a great there's a great interview with remember Stevo from Jackass, like
- 35:46he was he liked this girl in high school and he thought she was the
- 35:50cutest thing in the world, and he was wanting her to ditch class with
- 35:53him, and she's like, well, we can't. We don't have an
- 35:55excuse to get out. So he ripped a tooth out of his mouth.
- 35:59Uh, and he's gush, like, just physically ripped the twoth out of
- 36:01his mouth and like asked to be excused from class to go to the nurse
- 36:07and thought, and he goes his last words where he goes, Man,
- 36:09she didn't think that was cool. Like I'm like, okay, yeah,
- 36:14most women don't want to make out with you know, blood soaked. Yeah,
- 36:17and so we're not the brightest when it comes to it. I think
- 36:20he went, if I keep it quiet, you know, she's also she
- 36:23could I mean, she could stand to lose too. She's a compliance officer
- 36:27and we're having a relationship. But also it's me and they just signed me
- 36:30to ninety five million dollars. They're gonna do whatever it's gonna take. And
- 36:36I think he's thinking of that time back in those days when that was the
- 36:39top of the list, like, hey, we keep all of this quiet,
- 36:42shut up about it, because we have ninety five million dollars to lose.
- 36:45And now we're in a different time where it's like, hey, listen,
- 36:47we gotta call it for what it is. Yeah, but this you,
- 36:52you are the head coach of a major program. You have ninety five
- 36:55million dollars. Of all the women that you decide to have an affair with,
- 37:01there there are very few that really could topple you, but the one,
- 37:06because you know she was brought in, she already has outstanding credibility.
- 37:12And all it takes is one fight and you're screwed. All it takes is
- 37:16one fighter. Hey, where do you want to what do you want tonight?
- 37:22And it ends up, Oh yeah, I had you. You were
- 37:24playing with yourself on the phone. I'm gonna go tell everyone. No,
- 37:27It's like the fight is like, you know, what do you want to
- 37:29have for dinner night? Whatever you have with your wife the other night?
- 37:31Like that's what and you you you said something and I think you mentioned backwards
- 37:37because you said of all the women you could have an affair with, you
- 37:40do mean when it comes to him, of all the women that would have
- 37:44an affair with you, like, like, I don't know, there's not
- 37:46a lot of people going around like, you know, I'm banging mel Let's
- 37:49see that. No. Here's the thing though, but there are and that's
- 37:52the other side of this is where the two of you actually coincide with the
- 37:57two sides of the things that you're saying. He feels invincible because he's powerful,
- 38:00he's a big football coach, and they'll cover up anything. And then
- 38:04Trey's also saying it's like, well, this this, this is a powerful
- 38:07and rich man. There are plenty of options for powerful men on a campus
- 38:14where you have you have undergrad you have assistance, you there's a student body
- 38:19there. You're not shortage of there's no shortage of options of all the people
- 38:24that you decide you're going to risk everything. The one that like, yeah,
- 38:30if it was some grad student, you know, assistant, Yeah,
- 38:31he could probably bully her, pay her off with one hundred grand and this
- 38:35goes away. You pick the one where if she goes ballistic on you,
- 38:38you're screwed because she she can take you down, like she was brought in
- 38:44just for this very purpose to bring you down. Anyone who was going to
- 38:46do this. Yeah, and and and you know again, I always say,
- 38:51like, let it all play out and if it turns into a lover's
- 38:52spat or whatever, but if it is legitimate, like if in that situation,
- 38:59like and I don't know because I've never done something like that. Uh,
- 39:05what were they like what were they talking about? Like that he felt
- 39:07the need to do, Like if that was the case, Like it couldn't
- 39:10have been, like hey, let's talk about like the next compliance like the
- 39:15next seminar that we have about sexual assault and how to, how to,
- 39:19how to, how to catch sexual assault, know that it's happened to you
- 39:22or whatever, how to report it whatever. What is going on there where
- 39:27you feel compelled to do that? If if not for they were, as
- 39:30he said, having a mutual phone sex thing and this turned into to whatever
- 39:35it's turned into. I do like this. I could actually see that that
- 39:37conversation getting awkward pretty fast. Is she's trying to go through the bullet points
- 39:42of the next compliance meeting for Title nine purposes and his responses, what are
- 39:45you wearing? Assumed? What kind law? At the end of the day,
- 39:59I'll be very curious to see how it turns out. But as it
- 40:00is, he's he's done, and he's he's been suspended. They're gonna end
- 40:06up firing him, and uh, it's yeah, and then that school just
- 40:09cannot No school can really tolerate it. But at Michigan State with the Larry
- 40:15Naster stuff, really really has to be firm. Sorry for the punt on
- 40:19this. Yeah. And and I love the fact that they start suspending him
- 40:23without pay because normally what they'll do to kind of like play kate the whole
- 40:27thing. It's like, hey, we're gonna suspend you like in the media,
- 40:30but we'll still keep giving you your salary. Uh. And this one,
- 40:34I think when you're like, you're right, I think they're gonna I
- 40:37think he's done because they're like, listen, we're not giving any more money.
- 40:39Yeah, because basically saying we're gonna keep the remainder of your contractor yeah.
- 40:45And then I don't know, like and then in my head, I'm
- 40:47like, I don't know where you It's situations like this song, where do
- 40:52you go? What do you do after? Like like you can't it's not
- 40:54like you can go, Like you can't go to high school and like,
- 40:57hey, man, I used to coach at Michigan State. You can.
- 41:00I mean like yeah, but you're not allowed to have a phone, Like
- 41:04you, but you were allegedly beaten off on the phone with the compliance officers.
- 41:07So we don't know how you're going to fit in with the guidance counselors
- 41:09in high school. If this is what he does to a compliance officer,
- 41:14I can't imagine what he would do to a parole officer. There will be
- 41:21some small school that will, you know, go, oh wait, we
- 41:24can have him. And I worked for Art Briles leaving Baylor will but just
- 41:30for a second, I mean, Art Briles was still the pariah of I
- 41:32mean Christ. They got like the offensive coordinator Oklahoma has been skewered this week
- 41:38just for having Art Briles on the field on Saturday at the Oklahoma game.
- 41:43Like the point is someone someone still hired him. Oh yeah, they thought,
- 41:46oh yeah, we can get away with this, and then you know
- 41:49every place I mean I think what the Canadian Football League, and then I
- 41:52think maybe Liberty or someone like that Liberty University. There there there are there
- 41:57are to me, there are you know, there are many categories of cockroach
- 42:00occupations. One is football coach and another one is bad radio shows. They
- 42:07always seem to find a way to get hired despite all the evidence being to
- 42:12the contrary that they'll have any modicum of success. But it only takes one
- 42:17program director or one athletic director to say, you know what, I like
- 42:24this. I like it. I'm gonna make this decision. I'm gonna hire
- 42:28this guy. You think Mel has a You think Mel has a brewery.
- 42:37I think everyone's got a brewery these days. I'm shocked we don't have one.
- 42:40We should start one. I mean, we were already branching out with
- 42:43a football podcast. Why not a treehouse brewery run by run by a current
- 42:50functional alcoholic, an Indian uh son of immigrants from this heat, and a
- 43:00bona fide alcoholic who's been sober for seven years. If that's not If that's
- 43:05not a recipe for success for an alcohol brand, I don't know what is.
- 43:07Yeah, three unwise men muster fu draft will be the most entertaining.
- 43:17Yeah, there's no doubt I'll put the India in. I PA, Let's
- 43:22do Ours is actually authentic because Rogers the Indian trey is pale, and I'm
- 43:30drinking the ale. Normally, this is where I would end the show.
- 43:40But there's one more thing that I want to touch on again. Sorry for
- 43:44the pun. Here in the very first episode of the Treehouse Football Podcast,
- 43:51when that is we started the show with a surprise of the Cowboys putting up
- 43:55forty points and shutting out the Giants in week one, the surprise of Aaron
- 44:00Rodgers not being able to complete his first offensive series as a New York Jet.
- 44:05And now my question for you, mister Trenholm, is this, Actually
- 44:09I'm sorry. Now my question for you, Raj is this who do you
- 44:15think was more surprised that Trey's Longhorn's upset Alabama? Alabama or Tray? I'm
- 44:25gonna go with Tray. Really you so you think Alabama was less surprised getting
- 44:31beat at home by eleventh ranked ut than Trey, who was saying before the
- 44:38game to me via text message, Yeah, it doesn't look good. They're
- 44:43not ready for that hostile environment. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Like
- 44:47when I think of when I think of the ultimate optimist, Trenholme doesn't come
- 44:52to mind. So if you're giving me the option of one trend home versus
- 45:00eighty eight thousand people in the stadium in Alabama, I'm going with Trent.
- 45:08Yeah, I I I've watched I think the quarterback I think for for ut.
- 45:15Uh, I'm just glad he cut his hair. Uh. I know,
- 45:19his eyes on an old Cromle. I'm like the bullet thing whatever.
- 45:22I don't understand that coming back. But he looks good, man, I
- 45:27like the guy. The team looks good. I'm not gonna lie to you.
- 45:30You know, for someone like that, that may have been one of
- 45:32the more impressive things as yours, because he's been just burrated about his performance
- 45:38last year. And you know, you have I forgot that there's one quarterback
- 45:43he's supposed to be great, but then you have Arch Manning and the wings
- 45:45and so there's a huge amount of pressure. There are a lot of people
- 45:50were like why is he even starting? And uh, And then you know,
- 45:52you go into Alabama and I mean it was the worst home loss Nickson
- 46:00like, first time they've had a non conference home loss in like twenty years
- 46:02and worst loss Sabans had since like h three. And they just physically dominated
- 46:08Alabama And no, I would have bet everything that that would not was not
- 46:13gonna happen. And you know, and I'm not sure, I'm not sure
- 46:15who I feel worse for u Nick Saban's soul that I'm convinced he's sold to
- 46:21the devil many years ago, or the sack of puppies that I assume that
- 46:24he bludgeoned after the game. No puppies were harmed in the making of this
- 46:32podcast as far as we know. No, he wouldn't surprise me if if
- 46:38Nick Saban was the Grilla Deville of college football. Yeah, no, no,
- 46:42no, he looks like he looks like he like like the players didn't
- 46:46get to eat that night, Like like that's what like like you couldn't win
- 46:50or you're gonna eat one of the two talking about talking about not having a
- 46:53response from your friends. We were talking about the Cowboys and Giants and checking
- 46:55on your Giants friends. I have three Alabama friends, two of which I
- 47:00still have not heard from. And I was and I wasn't even talking crap
- 47:05to him during the game. And I one of them who I knew he
- 47:08was at the game, like he is a big Alabama alumni booster, and
- 47:13I was like, are you okay? Like I didn't see that one coming.
- 47:16You know it's gonna be And as a Texas fan, I can offer
- 47:20the perspective of disappointment. It's what we know, and especially early season disappointment
- 47:25and I'm like, it's okay, you know, y'all can still come back
- 47:28from this. It's it's it's early and he was responsive. No, he
- 47:31still has not responded. So that's two of your three Alabama fans you have
- 47:35not heard from. I have not heard from my Giant fan either. Is
- 47:37it possible that those Bama fans somehow found their way into the puppy sack?
- 47:45Or didn't they No one tends to use them. Now, Joe might have
- 47:51been so distraught that he put himself in the puppy sack. Just it's sort
- 47:57of like an offering up to he's got a sacrifice if this mean Alabama will
- 48:01win for a first first loss, like that, he has to sacrifice a
- 48:06boosts. He just he just kneels down in front of He just kneels down
- 48:08in front of Nick Saban. He said, roll tide. Now you're being
- 48:15silly. He's gotta kneel down at Saban's altar that he does have. Like
- 48:20we know he's got this, like he's got a dungeon with an altar and
- 48:22he just sits there and he waits for them to sacrifice their their first booster.
- 48:30Yeah, I like it. I again, I was I was stunned,
- 48:35but I was very optimistic going into it. I was like, you
- 48:37know what this could be. There's always that great upset. Yeah, in
- 48:40the early weeks of college football. And I told Trey before the game,
- 48:44I said, look, I have no dog in this fight. Like we
- 48:47mentioned at the beginning of the show, I didn't go to college to cheer
- 48:51for a football team because I went to UT arlankedon that didn't have one.
- 48:54I went actually for broadcasting stuff, and so I don't have a favorite college
- 49:00team on any sport whatever. I just like to watch a good game.
- 49:04What I told Trade before this game is I'm not cheering for your Longhorns.
- 49:07I hope the best for you as my friend, and I actually do think.
- 49:10I don't know if I didn't think Texas was going to win the game,
- 49:14but my hope was that they would because if they do, it's good
- 49:17for college football as a whole. It's very sad for those puppies in office,
- 49:23but it's good for the rest of college football. If Bama loses to
- 49:28Texas at home. Uh yeah, I mean I I was, you know,
- 49:32I was gonna go to UT. I was accepted, UT ended up
- 49:35going to Southwest Texas State, which is in the state, you know,
- 49:37Texas state school institutions. If you could compare them to the Jackson five Texas
- 49:42states teed up. So what would so well, then what would ut Arlington
- 49:47be? Would just be like cousin, No one even knows he could have
- 49:59said Jackson the never saying look, I don't know if the two of you
- 50:05have realized this, but I'm not exactly arguing there. It is episode number
