- 0:00It is the worldwide sports radio network.
- 0:05The New York Yankees get blown out in both games one and two in
- 0:09Toronto to start the ALDS. Can the Bronx Bombers bounce
- 0:13back at home Tuesday? Or Vlad Junior and the Blue Jays
- 0:17sweep the squad at home? The New York Jets and Giants
- 0:21wait for it lose again. The Jets were hapless against
- 0:25the Cowboys while the Giants shot themselves in the foot over
- 0:28and over again down by the Bayou and Nola blowing a very winnable
- 0:33game. Ken Dart and Fields turn their
- 0:35seasons around for New York or these teams destined for top
- 0:38five picks and possibly new leadership.
- 0:42And after we whip around the rest of NFL coverage for Week 5,
- 0:45we will hear from some downtrodden Penn State fans on
- 0:48their historic collapse versus windless UCLA in a jam packed,
- 0:53fully loaded, filling job for the Mouth who is down South.
- 0:57So you got the fish cast for your live Monday Night edition
- 1:01of Jabba and the Mouth. Pointing in one of the top three
- 1:04offensive players in the league. We're going to be.
- 1:20Looking at Aaron Judge and saying that he can't win the big
- 1:22game. Michael Jordan.
- 1:24Said I played 82 games. You don't see the fun?
- 1:27Doing that, a game where you got to go.
- 1:29Before I told you giant feet Saquon Barkley at.
- 2:42What is up, everybody? It is Aaron Fishman in tonight,
- 2:47filling in for Errol Marks is down in Florida.
- 2:51The mouth is down South. Yes, he is.
- 2:53But we're still here with the great Jabba Chamberlain and of
- 2:57course, Speedy Petty not taking calls exactly tonight because if
- 3:04I'm hosting, that doesn't exactly work with the
- 3:06soundboard. But we have a couple of people
- 3:07calling in for a special segment on their beloved Penn State
- 3:11football program, which is going through a lot of stuff tonight.
- 3:15We got a whole bunch of great stories for you, a lot of
- 3:19baseball, a little bit of football, but definitely some
- 3:24playoff stuff that we got to get into before we do that.
- 3:28Jabba, how we doing down in Nebraska, buddy?
- 3:31Good. Man.
- 3:32It was literally a miserable day today.
- 3:35It was rainy, dreary, cold. It feels like 48 right now.
- 3:41Yeah, it was just one of those days where it was kind of just
- 3:43just blah. You know how you get those ones
- 3:45every once in awhile? This was definitely today.
- 3:48That that's coming to us. This was like the nicest day
- 3:51we've had in a long time, at least for us was like 85, sunny,
- 3:55like kind of a light breeze in the morning.
- 3:58It was really beautiful. I know it's the end of it.
- 4:01As a football coach, we had a game on the weekend and it was
- 4:04hot in October and we're like everyone's going to cramp up.
- 4:07Luckily, we were able to to really kind of outclass that
- 4:10team, get guys out early. Nobody cramped up for like the
- 4:13first time ever in one of our one of our hot weather games.
- 4:16So we'll knock on wood. Maybe that's going to come back
- 4:19to bite us from the karma police over time.
- 4:21But it, it was definitely good and it helped us get the WS.
- 4:24So, you know, that's all all important.
- 4:26But you know, Speedy, how are you over there today on the
- 4:28island? You always get a little bit more
- 4:30humid on the island and for me it's a way more buggy on the
- 4:34island than in other places. Yeah, it wasn't buggy, but it
- 4:37was pretty hot in the in the morning and in the afternoon
- 4:40when I was out with the dog. And I always joke because my my
- 4:44grandparents, they had, they haven't been there in a while,
- 4:46but they had a house in Florida for a while.
- 4:48And obviously that the dog has been down there a lot.
- 4:50So I was joking. He always wants to stay at war
- 4:52in the heat. He's like a real Floridian.
- 4:54She wants to sunbathe, like I'll take her out to the park and
- 4:57when it's like 90 out and you think that she wants to leave,
- 5:00she don't want to leave. He wants to find a patch dirt
- 5:02and just hang out and sunbathe because she's a Floridian dog.
- 5:06It's 100% true. These, these dogs from down
- 5:08there, they love it. It's crazy.
- 5:10You would think they wouldn't because they got the fur.
- 5:13It's look it. Some dogs are wonderful animals.
- 5:16I'll tell you what's not a wonderful animal.
- 5:18Those buggy insects. This time of year, it's their
- 5:20last hurrah. It's the last hurrah.
- 5:22The one that bothers me the most, and I don't know if you
- 5:24have them over there, Jabba, is these goddamn lanternflies.
- 5:29What's a Lantern fly? So you haven't seen them?
- 5:31If you don't, if you haven't heard this name, it's like this.
- 5:35I don't know, Speedy, how do you describe them?
- 5:36They're like these flying, hopping, gross little monsters
- 5:40that destroy all the trees they're an invasive species
- 5:43from. Oh, we call them tree bugs.
- 5:46Because there's only been like 2 years of them right now as far
- 5:49as I know, where they just like and they get like start off one
- 5:52color then they have they're like red with spots later on in
- 5:54the season and they like hop on you.
- 5:57One jumped in my car as I was in a Duncan Dr. thru almost drove
- 6:00into the the goddamn thing, the the menu because the lanternfly
- 6:05jumped at me in the Duncan Dr. thru.
- 6:07But no, not fireflies, Tommy fireflies.
- 6:10Everybody knows no. Fireflies are different.
- 6:13I know what he's talking about. I've heard the name Tree Bog
- 6:15more than I heard what you were saying.
- 6:17Yeah, yeah. When you said yeah I've tree
- 6:20bugs here, but is do you guys call them fireflies or lightning
- 6:24bugs? Fireflies is all I've heard.
- 6:27I've heard them both ways. I I don't really know but it
- 6:30look. We would we would catch them in
- 6:32Mason jars. Yeah.
- 6:33And then you have like a light. We said that somewhere in the
- 6:36sleep away camp went to Sleep away camp as a kid.
- 6:37That was something that we did for sure.
- 6:39But. Oh yeah, believe it.
- 6:41You know, like that's fun back in those days, but there's a lot
- 6:44of fun that's going on around the sports world today.
- 6:46I mean, we got NLDS going on as we're speaking, Dodgers,
- 6:51Phillies. Look, possibly the two best
- 6:53teams have to play each other in divisional series.
- 6:56That happens. You know, that happens often.
- 6:58I remember 2003, the Yankees, the famous Aaron Boone home run,
- 7:03the classic 7 game series of the Red Sox.
- 7:05What happens in the World Series?
- 7:07They're flat, you know, they they they used it all up.
- 7:11Josh Beckett was throwing 100 hundred out of out of high
- 7:14school or college and AJ Burnett on that team, a bunch of other
- 7:18big time guys. And they just didn't have enough
- 7:20left to face that team. And I thought, you know, the
- 7:22Yankees and Red Sox were by far the best teams that year.
- 7:25They faced each other, you know, probably the same thing the
- 7:27following year, but you know, that's the brakes, as they say.
- 7:32We got a bunch of things to talk about.
- 7:33We got the Yankees we're going to get into in a second with
- 7:36their collapse in Toronto. But before after that, we'll
- 7:39talk about the real bright spot that came out of that Boston
- 7:42series Java. We're going to talk about Cam
- 7:44Schlittler in a little bit, but I'm going to tell you just a
- 7:47little spoiler. I'm pretty excited about Cam
- 7:50Schlittler after that performance.
- 7:52I don't. I don't think you're the only
- 7:54one, my man. We will absolutely talk about
- 7:57that. I want to step on it.
- 7:58We'll get into the rest of the visual round and we got to talk
- 8:00about The Jets and the Giants. Look, everyone knows I'm a crazy
- 8:03Giants fan. I'm not perhaps very rational
- 8:06about my Giants, even though I know it's probably not going to
- 8:10be good. It's I always have the hope.
- 8:12Well, that hope is mostly gone. Speedy.
- 8:15I don't think after losing to Spencer the Rattlesnake Rattler
- 8:19down in the Bayou that this season is going anywhere other
- 8:22than a top five, top six pick, so we'll get into that tonight.
- 8:26Let's start it off right off the bat with the Yankees not doing
- 8:30anything at the start of this series against the Blue Jays.
- 8:34After riding high off of winning a pivotal game three against the
- 8:38Red Sox and the Wild Card Series, the Yankees have been
- 8:40thoroughly dominated by the AL East champion Toronto Blue Jays
- 8:45in the first two games, the ALDS losing game 110 to 1 and Game
- 8:48213 to 7. The Blue Jays have already hit
- 8:52eight home runs in this series, including two each from Dalton,
- 8:56Var Show, Alejandro Kirk and Vladimir Guerrero Junior, who
- 9:00had a back breaking Grand Slam in Game 2.
- 9:03Yankees pitching has only gotten 7 strikeouts in the first two
- 9:07games, while Yankees hitters have already struck them out 21
- 9:10times. Literally exactly 3 times as
- 9:12much. The Yankees offense has been
- 9:14mostly anemic until they were down double digits in Game 2
- 9:18after getting no hit by rookie Trey Yes Savage for five and a
- 9:21third innings, striking out 11 times against a surprise Game 2
- 9:25starter. Veteran Kevin Gausman was
- 9:27effective in game one, only allowing one run.
- 9:31Luke Weaver's struggles continued in game one and he has
- 9:34yet to record an out this post season, while 19 game winner Max
- 9:38Freed had his worst start of the year in Game 2, allowing 7 runs
- 9:42and eight hits over just three innings pitched.
- 9:45AL batting champion Aaron Judge has four hits and two walks this
- 9:48series, but no other Yankee has more than two hits in one walk
- 9:51and Cody Bellinger is the only one with a home run.
- 9:54The Yankees return home tomorrow for game three on the brink of
- 9:56elimination with 18 game winner Carlos Rodan on the mound
- 10:00against trade deadline acquisition Shane Bieber for the
- 10:04Blue Jays. Well, here it is, boys.
- 10:07That's what we thought might happen.
- 10:10The Yankees kind of go all out against the Red Sox team that
- 10:14was completely depleted. They did not have Roman Anthony,
- 10:18no Lucas Giolito. They couldn't turn us around
- 10:20lefty with Giolito. So they put in some younger
- 10:22guys. They tried lefties and they just
- 10:25didn't have the roster. Marcelo Meyer didn't make it to
- 10:29the end of the season. That guy, unfortunately has been
- 10:30hurt a lot in his young career. He's another one of their big
- 10:33pieces for the future. This is just not the year for
- 10:36the Red Sox yet. They took the Yankees to the
- 10:38brink. Now we'll talk about Cam
- 10:41Schillinger, his great performance in that game, on the
- 10:43brink game three. It was wonderful and I will talk
- 10:46about it. But we got to talk about the
- 10:47negative because the Yankees didn't show up for this series.
- 10:50They went to Toronto, same record as them in the regular
- 10:53season, lose the tiebreaker. So they lose the AL East and
- 10:56they just get the doors absolutely blown off of them.
- 11:0112:50, It wasn't even competitive.
- 11:04And then in the second game, before they get any hits,
- 11:07literally any hits, they get no hit by a rookie that no one's
- 11:11seen. What do you have three starts
- 11:12before this in Major League Baseball?
- 11:14He started in a ball. He was an A ball guy and I I was
- 11:19reading, you know, like the the Blue Jays used them as their,
- 11:22you know, like surprise, he's their, you know, little ace up
- 11:26their sleeve. OK, that's great.
- 11:28You have an A ball pitcher that's, you know, Rose through
- 11:31the minors who obviously has great stuff, but it's amazing to
- 11:34use him in Game 2. This is not a team with a great
- 11:36pitching staff, yet they bombarded the Yankees with great
- 11:40pitching in the first two games. And Vladimir Guerrero junior is
- 11:45does very well against the Yankees.
- 11:47Let's face it, and he's for real child.
- 11:51But I mean, I don't know where you throw it to that guy at this
- 11:55point where he's locked in like this.
- 11:58Not not just him, but I mean their their lineup as a whole.
- 12:02Kurt, you got VAR show. It's it's crazy like, and it's
- 12:08always, it's, it's interesting to see that they always, you
- 12:11know, pitching out does good hitting.
- 12:13But right now it's kind of the opposite.
- 12:16I mean, the Yankees giving up 23 runs, that's never happened
- 12:18before. And that's literally one of
- 12:22those things, like you said, Fish, it's you.
- 12:25You've got Aaron Judge, who everybody you know, knows is
- 12:28great. But what what's happening to
- 12:30everybody else? Belly's the only one with the
- 12:32home and he's, you know, on a bad wheel and nobody else has
- 12:36really stepped up. You can't expect one guy to get
- 12:39you to the World Series. You know, everybody's kind of
- 12:41got to play their part and do it.
- 12:42And Derek came out and kind of said the same thing.
- 12:45It's like, who needs to step up? And he just went throughout the
- 12:47entire roster. He's 100% right.
- 12:49And, you know, this kind of goes back what we talked about before
- 12:52where, you know, they always want to blame, you know, Cash
- 12:56and Boonie and all those guys. But you know, when you've got
- 12:59Judge, who is obviously the guy that's got four hits, but nobody
- 13:04else has more than two and we've only got one home run.
- 13:06That's, that's been our MO all year of, of winning games.
- 13:09What we saw, you know, obviously in division series, we didn't
- 13:12need to hit home runs to score runs and, and did it in a
- 13:15different way. But now when you come out and
- 13:18you know, you savage and doing what he's done, it's they've
- 13:21never faced before, he's never faced them.
- 13:23So it's kind of a catch 22. You don't really know what to
- 13:26expect. I mean, and, and then that was
- 13:28the highest swing and missed percentage the Yankees had all
- 13:30year, 58.1% And he has the highest arm slot other than
- 13:34Justin Verlander, but he's 2 inches taller than him.
- 13:38And then you got Vladdy, who, you know, just kind of is more
- 13:43so coming into his own and becoming, you know, that dude,
- 13:46right? And his talks about the articles
- 13:49that have come out about how he's always wanted to be here,
- 13:52you know, his dad and, and all those things where, you know,
- 13:55he's kind of just putting together.
- 13:56And we're not even talking about the guy that, you know, was the
- 13:59hits leader for a long time and Bichette not even on the roster.
- 14:03And so you got guys that are literally, you know, stepping up
- 14:07and, and doing the things that they need to do with, you know,
- 14:10some some decent pitching. And, you know, you didn't expect
- 14:14these young guys to to do what they've done on both sides.
- 14:17And then obviously, Kevin Gossman, it's, you know, just
- 14:20the splitter there. And then you got to face another
- 14:22splitter. And then it's like they're
- 14:24trying to piece their bullpen together as well.
- 14:26So it's it's not what I would have expected in those first two
- 14:30games for sure, especially with the runs.
- 14:32And then everybody's like, well, they fought and clawed back,
- 14:34right? Well, yeah, I was already out of
- 14:35hand at that point, if you ask me.
- 14:37But they're a different Rd. team.
- 14:38They are home team. So it's chips in a chair, right?
- 14:43They're not out of it. They can't lose tonight because
- 14:45they don't have a game. So I think it's going to be one
- 14:48of those things where we just kind of have to take it an
- 14:51inning at a time. And you know, it's it's going to
- 14:54be tough, but there's going to you're going to have to scratch
- 14:57and claw and somebody's going to have to step up.
- 14:59There's going to have to be a big hit that, you know, they,
- 15:01they talked about Stan having basically the, you know, the
- 15:06knock in the face kind of talk. If you've got to punch me in the
- 15:09face right now to get me going and in the division series in
- 15:13the postseason in October, then I don't know where we missed
- 15:17because I I wasn't a big fan of meetings anyways, because like
- 15:22we're really, what are we doing? Unless something like
- 15:24catastrophic and like, Hey, we need to just sit down, chill.
- 15:27We've just lost eighteen in a row, like, you know, certain
- 15:30things like that. But we are in October.
- 15:32We've been grinding. We know what our team is, what
- 15:35what is a hey, you know, win or go home talk.
- 15:38What is what does that even do? Like we get it, man.
- 15:41If I need to be like talked to and like kicked in the rear end,
- 15:45then I shouldn't even be in this position anyway.
- 15:48So are they going to have it? I would venture to say there's
- 15:52probably a talk of, hey, we're you know what, we're still in
- 15:55it. We're a great team.
- 15:56You know, the the status quo with cliche stuff that's going
- 16:00to go on. And then I think that's that's
- 16:02probably what's going to happen. It has to be something.
- 16:04Given a bunch of sorry speed, I was going to give you something,
- 16:07but I just to comment on that job.
- 16:10I've given those speeches, you know, like to my high school
- 16:13teams, and you get carried away and you think you're saying
- 16:16something that's like real motivating.
- 16:19And then you don't even realize you're kind of like, you might
- 16:22get off target. Sometimes I'm real happy at the
- 16:24end of it. I'm like, yeah.
- 16:25Go this way. Good.
- 16:26Sometimes it's like, hey, you probably shouldn't have said
- 16:28that. Sometimes someone goes, hey,
- 16:30that didn't come out right, you know, And you it doesn't do as
- 16:34much as you think, you know, like you can only like with
- 16:38kids, you can try to get them focused and pumped up about
- 16:41themselves. And I try to do that.
- 16:42But with professionals, Java, like, like you said, what is I
- 16:47mean, Giancarlo Stanton obviously carries a lot of
- 16:49weight because he's a physical freak of nature and he's been
- 16:51he's been in this game and has accomplished so much in this
- 16:54game. So he's going to carry that
- 16:56weight. But you know, like, talk is
- 16:59cheap, man. Like, you got to do it yourself.
- 17:01If you're not intrinsically motivated at this point in your
- 17:05career, like, for example, like an Anthony Rendon who's
- 17:08apparently more motivated to play golf and act like he's hurt
- 17:11all the time than do anything. He's not collect checks, doesn't
- 17:14care at all honestly. Forgot that name until you
- 17:17brought it. I was like, man, like people go
- 17:19to prison for less than that. Bro it's crazy he's stolen like.
- 17:24With nine figures. 9 figures that he's taken from them.
- 17:28And I honestly don't think he's in any hurry no to get back.
- 17:32It's it's like the Paul George, like hangnail injuries that he I
- 17:36think he has a. Lot of those times when you see
- 17:37these types of identities when it comes to playoff matchups of
- 17:41division rivals, like in football and in hockey, I think
- 17:43it's a little different when you see like, all right, you can
- 17:45game plan it for a certain way. And then especially when a team
- 17:48blows him out, you're like, all right, we're going to play the
- 17:49same way what we did. And you saw that kind of thing.
- 17:52You've seen this kind of thing in playoff hockey to like even a
- 17:55team like the the Hurricanes 2 years ago playing against the
- 17:59Rangers and they dominate in the regular season, then the Rangers
- 18:01able to beat them in the playoffs.
- 18:02In baseball, I think it's a little different because I think
- 18:04you look at Toronto like they dominated the end of the season
- 18:07against the Yankees too. And you're kind of thinking, OK,
- 18:09the Yankees can make the adjustments.
- 18:10And I was one of those people that was thinking that the Blue
- 18:12Jays were kind of a fraudulent type team.
- 18:14Like are they really as good as a one seed as perceived because
- 18:17they weren't supposed to be good?
- 18:19There was a team that was getting all the pitching staff
- 18:21is like all veteran right-handed pitchers that like, I guess they
- 18:24have different stylistically pitching identities.
- 18:27But still, is it something that you say, all right, can we we
- 18:30there's tape on these guys, maybe the Yankees.
- 18:32These are all these veteran hitters that can figure them
- 18:34out. Kevin Gau has been obviously his
- 18:36experience with the Yankees, but it's not always all positive
- 18:38experience. And then obviously somebody like
- 18:41you Savage, who they don't have any tape on, it's a whole
- 18:43different story. But still, it's something that
- 18:45it's a little different in baseball that you realize.
- 18:48And it's also the effect of the bye week.
- 18:49Like, all right. So far, since the new playoff
- 18:51formats come out, it's been split among buys helping teams
- 18:55and buys hurting teams at first. Year I was I was going to ask
- 18:58you what do you what do you got? I did.
- 19:00I personally thought like the momentum of game three and and
- 19:03getting that start from Cam would kind of like push us into
- 19:06with only that basically travel day and then them being kind of
- 19:09stagnant for a week. I thought that would kind of be
- 19:11in the favor of the Yankees. But the numbers that have been
- 19:15like you said, speedy, kind of like wishy washy where you it?
- 19:19I don't think it really matters. It's been an even split pretty
- 19:22much since the new playoff format in 2020.
- 19:25Houston was the only team that got that one with the by the
- 19:28first year. Everyone else lost with the by
- 19:30the first year. Then it was an even split in
- 19:322023 and then last year kind of shifted back where the Mets were
- 19:35the only wild card team that won being the Phillies.
- 19:39And so it's a mixed bag that you thought would be beneficial is
- 19:44like you're saying to the Yankees that had that kind of
- 19:46spark that had that they also won the game before just they
- 19:50had a two game-winning streak going with that combined with
- 19:53again more postseason experience.
- 19:54The Blue Jays this core having a very negative postseason
- 19:57experience too. They've got 2 blown leads the
- 20:00first year they played against Seattle where they were blowing
- 20:02these four and five run leads. And then they stunk up the next
- 20:05year against the Twins, who on paper, never thought of as.
- 20:08That good of a team in even in 2023, it just played in a weak
- 20:11division. So that's the only thing that
- 20:13that's the other thing that voted well against or for the
- 20:16Yankees as well. And I picked the Yankees to lose
- 20:18the first round against the Red Sox.
- 20:19I was thinking it was going to be the Red Sox making this role,
- 20:21but I was like either one of these two teams are going to
- 20:23beat the Blue Jays. I just didn't trust them.
- 20:24Everything streamed fraud for the Blue Jays on paper, and they
- 20:28have shown that they have a lot more young talent that is
- 20:31hitting than giving credit for. They've had some of these random
- 20:33spark guys throughout the year and they're pitching.
- 20:36It wasn't going to be enough. And this kid, you Savage kind of
- 20:40thought with this random thing. We discussed it about a month
- 20:42ago when we were talking about the Mets collapse.
- 20:44Like are these young kids, even if the Mets made the playoffs,
- 20:47are they going to be ready for the moment?
- 20:48But so far you've seen it with we'll get we'll get into
- 20:50Schlitter later. And now this kid, you Savage,
- 20:52that are just four starts in or something like that and ready
- 20:55for the moment. I look, it's it's amazing what
- 21:00he did, but my problem is why are the Yankees still making the
- 21:04same mistakes they've made all season?
- 21:07Luke Weaver comes into game one in a tight spot and can't get a
- 21:12single guy out, the same way he couldn't get a single guy out in
- 21:16the Red Sox series. Don't you think that's a guy
- 21:20that you put in when we're down 12:50, not when we're trying to
- 21:24keep it close? I don't understand some of those
- 21:27decisions with the pen. It's the same type of decision
- 21:30that he made with Devin Williams earlier in the season, putting
- 21:32him out there in those spots. And guess what?
- 21:34If we won one more of those games then we lost with the
- 21:37Devin Williams blowing it, we would have had home field and
- 21:41the Blue Jays would have had to use up their ya Savage
- 21:44experiment in the, you know, the wild card.
- 21:47And we would have been able to be all set up for them.
- 21:49And maybe Luke Weaver could have had some time to work out his
- 21:52tipping of the pitches that he's trying to get back in his
- 21:55rhythm, which apparently is the issue with him.
- 21:57I mean, job, you tell me like that guy, they're saying that he
- 22:00was tipping, so he's trying to stop tipping, but now it's
- 22:03messed up his mechanics. I mean he seems like there's no
- 22:07chance in him getting this right before next season, to me at
- 22:10least. It's, it's weird too, because
- 22:12there was, there was an article on it today where, or it might
- 22:16have been the other day where it just, it was talking about how
- 22:19this, this is where I think sometimes paralysis by analysis
- 22:22comes in because they were talking about, oh, the, you're
- 22:26the most watched with iPads and the, and the angles and all the
- 22:29cameras and stuff. Well, they can know what pitches
- 22:33mean. They still got to hit it.
- 22:34It comes down to executing and it comes down to, I could tell
- 22:39you exactly that it's a fastball.
- 22:42That doesn't necessarily mean you're going to hit it.
- 22:44So I I think for him too. And and we've kind of seen this
- 22:48and, and you kind of touched on it.
- 22:50There's been a little bit of like the, it feels like the same
- 22:54of what they did with Devin Williams.
- 22:56Like you said, like try to let him figure it out in these like,
- 22:59but that's early in the season. And like you said it, people are
- 23:02people are like why the the season is too long, but we're
- 23:05talking about something early in the season that affects this,
- 23:08this this whole season, right where we are like, well, if they
- 23:12would have not, I guess, experimented with him trying to
- 23:16get him back then we have home field.
- 23:18But now you're doing it with Luke Weaver in this situation.
- 23:22I somebody's going to have to step up because somebody's going
- 23:24to have to eat those innings anyways.
- 23:27But is, is right now the time to try to get him, you know, off
- 23:31the schneid? I don't, I don't think so.
- 23:34You can, you can get him in in innings where it's, it's not
- 23:38high leverage and you know, Booney came out and said that,
- 23:41you know, they're still going to use them in high leverage.
- 23:42It's just, it's tough to be able to do it and try to regain your
- 23:46confidence And, and obviously he knows he's good enough.
- 23:49He's done it. But when you're grinding and
- 23:52then it's magnified by 5000 because it is the playoffs and
- 23:56you haven't done anything, You know, it's a little bit
- 23:59different than Devin Williams in April and May, right where it's
- 24:02like, OK, I can grind through this and get.
- 24:05But now it's like, well, I, this wears on me for the whole thing.
- 24:08And now I've got to try and refigure, recalibrate, however
- 24:11you want to word it what my delivery is.
- 24:14Because now everybody's saying they have every pitch.
- 24:16So it's tough. I mean, it's tough when they
- 24:19don't know what it is because these guys are great.
- 24:22But now you're, you're literally like, probably, I would say
- 24:26overthinking everything. It's like, well, OK, now my
- 24:29pinky's out now. Are you focused on executing and
- 24:32being committed to the pitch? Read about, OK, my front
- 24:34shoulder's closed or hey, my, my toe is angled.
- 24:37Like there's so many things now you worried about it where you
- 24:39forget you still got to throw it over the plate no matter if they
- 24:41know it or not. And also I.
- 24:43Like Hitch in the golf swing, right?
- 24:44I also think Jabba, like you have these instances where
- 24:47contracts like play into that too, because you have GM's that
- 24:51maybe either made a bad trade or made a bad contract telling the
- 24:54managers, oh, keep playing these guys, it'll eventually work out.
- 24:56And I think that you're dealing with, especially with a bigger
- 24:59market team, you deal with that kind of conflict when it comes
- 25:02to these either higher priced bad contracts that don't work
- 25:04out or in this case a trade that didn't work out because Caleb
- 25:07Durbin is doing very well in Milwaukee and Devin Williams was
- 25:10pretty rocky all year with the Yankees.
- 25:12You're trying to justify that kind of thing to work when
- 25:15obviously you have David Bednar that's come in and played very
- 25:17well. You have these other relievers
- 25:19like Fernando Cruz, younger relievers, homegrown guys that
- 25:22have worked out and you just try to justify it.
- 25:24And just overall the balance of that kind of thing can happen
- 25:27where you try to still try to cater to what I guess either
- 25:30Cashman or the front office did or just say, all right, these
- 25:33are the best players that we should have in this situation
- 25:36based on splits or based on career batting averages against
- 25:40this guy or whatever. And those are the kinds of
- 25:42things that have to you have to look at in the postseason as
- 25:44well. You should.
- 25:45These contracts, these trades should not matter.
- 25:48I just see a hungrier team in Toronto than what I see in New
- 25:52York. That's what I see, a team that
- 25:54is playing together and wants it really badly, wants to beat the
- 25:58Yankees, really badly, wants to prove that even though they had
- 26:01the same record, it wasn't a tie, that they were the team of
- 26:04the AL East. And I think they're just going
- 26:07to, they might just shove tomorrow as well and it might be
- 26:10a sweep. And we have to deal with losing
- 26:12on our home field like we did in the World Series last year.
- 26:15And I'm pretty afraid of that. Look, we got Rodan 18 game
- 26:19winner had the season everyone was hoping that he would have.
- 26:22I mean, that's a big part of the reason why the Yankees are here
- 26:24is Rodon and Freed, who did absolutely nothing in game two.
- 26:28I mean, I can't explain what happened to him.
- 26:29I mean, Java, it'd be better to explain it to me.
- 26:31But before we do like Rodon is that guy.
- 26:35If he can, he is more than capable of doing it.
- 26:38But I don't I hope that Boone learns his lesson from the Red
- 26:41Sox series because he left them in too long and he let two guys
- 26:44on in the top of I think it was the 7th and it led to, you know,
- 26:47the game getting tied up or the Yankees falling behind rather.
- 26:51And that's something that another thing Boone's done where
- 26:54he's left guys in because remember, Rodon got that one
- 26:56pitch double play after he got into a whole load of trouble in
- 26:59the 6th. I I could have sworn like that
- 27:02was like, Oh, thank God. All right, now you can take him
- 27:04out. You can get to the pen and now,
- 27:06now we're good. No, he left him in there.
- 27:09Now I love that Rodon's a guy who's not going to he's never
- 27:12going to say I want to come out right.
- 27:14So you love that from your pitcher, but it's another one of
- 27:17those things. Is Boone going to learn from his
- 27:20mistakes or is he just like, this is how I do it, even if the
- 27:23results are poor? So I don't know.
- 27:25Look, we'll find out well next time that we are on the show on
- 27:28Thursday, we're not going to be on Wednesday next episode
- 27:30because there will be back on Thursday.
- 27:31So we're pushing it Thursday. If the Yankees win the next two
- 27:35games, you know, we'll either be talking about a Game 5 or we're
- 27:37doing a postmortem on the season on Thursday, boys.
- 27:40But before we do that, let's talk about the one great bright
- 27:44spot of the Yankees, which was that Game 3 performance by
- 27:49rookie pitcher Cam Schlittler. Oh man, I'm so excited to talk
- 27:54about this. So here we go.
- 27:56In more positive Yankees news, rookie pitcher Cam Schiller had
- 28:00a massive performance dominating in his post season debut in a
- 28:04win or go home game three versus the Red Sox in the Wild card
- 28:07round. Schiller pitched 8 scoreless
- 28:09innings and struck out 12 Red Sox hitters.
- 28:12Didn't allow a single walk. Schlittler is the first pitcher
- 28:15in baseball history to have 8 scoreless innings.
- 28:18Girl walks in 12 KS Langs also mentioned so there had the third
- 28:21most strikeouts by rookie in their postseason debut.
- 28:25Blue Jays rookie Treya Savage, as we talked about with 11, is
- 28:29now 4th on that list behind Schlittler.
- 28:32She also mentioned Schlitter threw 64 pitches at 98 miles an
- 28:36hour or faster since pitch tracking started in 2008.
- 28:40That's six more than any other pitcher in a playoff game, and
- 28:44second most ever behind Hunter Green, who threw 67 in a game in
- 28:482022. Of the 107 pitches Schlittler
- 28:51threw in the 8 innings, 96 were some kind of fastball fastballs
- 28:55for Seamer, A sinker or cutter, which was just under 90% of his
- 29:00pitches thrown. To make matters even sweeter.
- 29:02And this is the part that to me just really warmed up my heart.
- 29:06Schlidler, who grew up a Red Sox fan and lives in South Boston,
- 29:10AKA Southie in the offseason, had a little extra motivation in
- 29:14this one as he told reporters that some prominent Boston fan
- 29:18influencers went too far online harassing his mother in the lead
- 29:23up to the game. After the mic drop performance,
- 29:26Schindler took to social media, grabbing another mic to troll
- 29:31some of these haters, making fun of their takes and telling them
- 29:34to get ready for Bruins season. Schlidler will likely start Game
- 29:384 on Wednesday if the Yankees are able to keep their season
- 29:41alive tomorrow night versus the Blue Jays in game three.
- 29:46Oh man, was this great. I look, the Yankees might get
- 29:50swept in this series, but at least we had that iconic moment
- 29:55where Cam Schlittler, a rookie, showed up.
- 29:59Looks like to me, I thought I was watching Garrett Cole on the
- 30:02mound for a while with the way, not the way he was pitching,
- 30:05just the composure every inning. He walked off under calm
- 30:10control. And I was looking at him and
- 30:12he's even got the hair, kind of like how Cole used to have it,
- 30:14too. And I'm just looking at him
- 30:15like, Oh my God, did we just get a rookie Garrett Cole?
- 30:19Is that what we're looking at right now?
- 30:21A guy who's got ice in his veins and on top of it, hates the Red
- 30:26Sox? Like on a personal level, which
- 30:29is what I've always wanted from my players.
- 30:32I mean, pump this into my veins, Java.
- 30:34This is this is what every Yankees fan has been wanting
- 30:38forever. I mean, it's part of the reason
- 30:39why we love you as a player so much is that intensity, the love
- 30:42for competition, the love for going at the big, you know,
- 30:46teams that the big rivals not like just showing up against the
- 30:49Marlins, you know what I mean? Like showing up against the Red
- 30:52Sox, going after them And then not only, you know, doing it and
- 30:56then rubbing it in, rubbing it in.
- 30:59I loved that every second of it. It made me so happy.
- 31:02So even if they don't, they don't get past this to me.
- 31:05What an iconic moment. It's very exciting for the
- 31:08future because now you have a rotation next year that should
- 31:11feature Cole back with Freed, Rodan and Schlittler.
- 31:16You got Clark Schmidt probably hanging around the periphery
- 31:18coming back from injury. You got Luis Heel who's, you
- 31:21know, obviously the season, it was like a truncated season for
- 31:26him coming back from injury as well.
- 31:28He was the rookie of the year the year before.
- 31:29He's not where he was last year. Maybe he can turn around.
- 31:32That's six guys right off the bat that for a lot of teams he
- 31:37got. Four of those guys are one or
- 31:39two pitchers and then the others are probably 3-4 guys, not 5
- 31:43starters like Clark Schmidt started the season.
- 31:46You forget Clark Schmidt was untouchable at the beginning of
- 31:49the season. He was playing like an ace and
- 31:51he's their fifth guy. This team could be really good
- 31:56going forwards as of right now, if they get to game four, I'll
- 31:59tell you what I got trust in this Cam Schlittler to get us to
- 32:02game five. I would love to see that.
- 32:05I hope we see it. Jabba.
- 32:07He must have had some I, I was a goosebump in like inducing
- 32:11because I, I, I couldn't believe what I was watching, man.
- 32:13Him to do what he did in that situation.
- 32:16We've seen that you know, kind of this whole post season guys
- 32:20young kids that you didn't expect to be in the situation.
- 32:22They are pitch well. I mean you had you got to tip
- 32:27your hat when these young kids come to these situations and you
- 32:30know early for the Red Sox. He he wasn't supposed to pitch
- 32:33that game but and he didn't pitch terrible and you got
- 32:36anybody could have pitched against Cam that day and it
- 32:39probably would have been a tough battle.
- 32:41But the composure you touched on.
- 32:43But for me, it's like watching how he just methodically goes
- 32:50about it showed a little bit emotion, which I like, but you
- 32:53obviously he's not a huge emotion guy.
- 32:54And we we he there's enough starts to kind of see what his,
- 32:58you know, demeanor on the mound is.
- 32:59But and this is without and if you look at his number, his
- 33:02secondary, like his curveball isn't that great.
- 33:05Just imagine when he gets that over and he continues to get not
- 33:08to say he's not comfortable, but gets a whole season.
- 33:13I mean, because he started in Somerset and I know going
- 33:18through the grind of minor leagues and then getting to the
- 33:21the postseason and having, you know, kind of, you know, a mark
- 33:24on you as a young kid that that's helping a team win it.
- 33:27You know, it can weigh on you a little bit.
- 33:28But I think the most impressive thing was is he was able to
- 33:33separate it because, you know, he he didn't get ahead of
- 33:36himself and clap back on social media.
- 33:39But I don't know if you guys saw some of his clap backs though.
- 33:42They were phenomenal, like the one to the chick and the Red Sox
- 33:46jersey and he's like not this year.
- 33:48I mean the stuff that drinking that dirty water like the dude
- 33:53like and live your best life dog.
- 33:55Like you had that 24 hours and the crazy part is, and we've
- 33:59talked about this, like you can tell me I suck.
- 34:01You can tell me whatever you want.
- 34:03I don't care. But like when you go in the
- 34:05family and especially, you know, him still living in South
- 34:09Boston, like I could only imagine some of the stuff that
- 34:13he heard. And like, you know, from your
- 34:14boys is one thing, right, Because that's, you know what
- 34:17you're going to get from your boys.
- 34:18And that's it. Man, it was, it was fun to see.
- 34:21I, I think when he just continues, I think he's going to
- 34:24get better. He has a great group of guys
- 34:26around him to get him better. And, and you can kind of see all
- 34:30that, that starting group of guys kind of their demeanors
- 34:33kind of mesh together as far as the kind of the way they handle
- 34:37some things, you know, motion every once in a while, But you
- 34:40know, it's, it's just fun. And, and you saw those guys
- 34:42afterwards, after he got done, they're like, they're like, how
- 34:45do you feel? I was like, well, literally, I
- 34:47was fanboying like I, I was, I was a fan.
- 34:49I, I wasn't watching it as like, you know, dissecting his
- 34:52sequences or his delivery. Like I was watching it as a fan
- 34:55as as a lot of us were, and when when you get somebody in that
- 34:59position doing what they like, it's so fun to watch because
- 35:04it's just the game is there And and I don't know.
- 35:07And like I said, this is this is the manager, whatever talk, but
- 35:12that's a game that and he and Cam even said he talked about
- 35:15load management. He talked about have you ever
- 35:17gone into as deep as that game? They're like, no, usually at 95
- 35:21pitches. It's kind of when and Booney
- 35:23just kind of was like he's throwing strikes.
- 35:25I love the fact like that. It felt like there was a little
- 35:28feel to running him back out there, right.
- 35:30And mind you, he didn't have that many stress feelings like
- 35:33as Freed did in game one. We saw kind of what happened.
- 35:35But I I loved it because it felt like I'm watching the game.
- 35:39I'm not watching numbers. And it felt good for him to go
- 35:43out because it it's damned if you damned if you don't, though,
- 35:46right? Like if they send him back out
- 35:47and he gives up, you know, he gives up the booty as this show
- 35:50it likes to do on this board, then you're like, oh, he should
- 35:55have taken them out. But I just love that it, it felt
- 35:58like a real feel move. It played the way it should
- 36:02have. And that's why I love the feel
- 36:04aspect of it in these. And I'm excited for whatever
- 36:07happens to watch this kid grow in confidence and and just see,
- 36:13you know, everything just get that much better and and and
- 36:16continue to develop because right now he's a stud.
- 36:18I think it's just that the Sky's the limit for the kid.
- 36:21Before I get to my statement, I just want to give a shout out to
- 36:23Donnie in the comments section who's saying that he's about to
- 36:27have neck surgery next month and his mom stage 4 breast cancer.
- 36:30So Donnie, I'm wishing you and and your mother all the best in
- 36:33everything medically with you and thanks for listening.
- 36:36Donnie Clark, new listener in the comments section.
- 36:38So I was going to mention with him too.
- 36:39Jabba. That was the dilemma that you
- 36:40always get with younger pitchers.
- 36:42Like maybe not as early as as Schwitler came up obviously this
- 36:47late in the season, but like I reference it with the Mets in
- 36:502015 with Matt Harvey. Like they brought him out for
- 36:52the 9th and it didn't work out. Then you have situations like
- 36:55Houston, their first playoff run in 2017 with somebody like Lance
- 36:58Mcculler. So I think it was in the second
- 36:59year in the league, but he was just coming off of injury.
- 37:01They let him go long in those games against the Yankees and
- 37:06against the Dodgers in the playoffs.
- 37:07And they made that kind of thing work and a bullpen that I
- 37:11thought was very questionable at that time, they kind of patched
- 37:13together and they kind of made that thing work.
- 37:15And you've seen it with some of these newer teams as we've seen
- 37:19it with younger teams now that have had more success in the
- 37:21playoffs. And they get scrutinized when it
- 37:24doesn't work. And it's easy to just judge
- 37:25hindsight to make that kind of thing work because you have to
- 37:29have certain things that factor into why you would pull a guy.
- 37:32But there was no reason for it when he wasn't addressing really
- 37:35any hard contact. It's like he's a 12 strikeouts
- 37:39velocity that was never dropping off really at all and didn't
- 37:42walk anybody. There was no reason to ever
- 37:44think to take him out in the eighth inning whatsoever, even
- 37:47when he was even when he was getting up there in the as a
- 37:50pitch count because you're like, OK, a hundred pitch is
- 37:52considered a quote UN quote threshold.
- 37:54Now, granted, every pitcher is going to be different with that.
- 37:56But when your stuff does not look like it's deteriorating
- 37:59whatsoever, especially with that level of strikeouts and the Red
- 38:03Sox not adjusting to fastballs, not just it's not like, OK,
- 38:06we're having trouble with your breaking stuff.
- 38:08We're having trouble with with your change up.
- 38:09They didn't adjust to fastballs. Yeah, he has three different
- 38:12types, which I always have. I've always, I'm obviously not a
- 38:15player development guy, but Java, I would imagine like
- 38:17having a cutter and having a 2 seamer gives you a lot more
- 38:19action than just having a traditional 4 seamer and just
- 38:22relying on velocity. And that made it hard for him.
- 38:24It's the top 2. And I always said pitchers
- 38:25should do that kind of thing to give some variety in a high
- 38:28giving age. And the Red Sox just said no
- 38:30adjustments. Yeah.
- 38:33And he, he pitched all four quadrants.
- 38:34If you, if you look at it and it is not when you're that, when
- 38:38you're have that ability to be able to cut it and sink it, to
- 38:41be able to, to handle both sides of the plate.
- 38:44It's, it's pretty impressive. And and these young kids now you
- 38:47see it and you know the schemes of the world and you know the
- 38:51schools and schools not that old, but it's he was held back.
- 38:55With injury at the beginning of his career.
- 38:56So yeah, exactly. And but that that kind of goes
- 39:00back to something you talked about like in the, you know, his
- 39:03pitch count or whatever. And you see all of these guys
- 39:07when Cam talked about it at 95, that's kind of when they would
- 39:10start talking to me. School's career highs 108 back
- 39:14in the day, dudes were throwing BP with 108 pitches you know
- 39:18and. How many pitches did Al Leiter
- 39:20throw in that in that World Series game?
- 39:23What was it like 160 or something it?
- 39:25Was like 163 or something. 1 something crazy yeah and that's
- 39:31you know then then they go throw BP or they play long toss so it
- 39:34it's definitely different where you don't see it as much there's
- 39:37a few guys that that have that in the game where they like
- 39:40Nope, you're not taking me out but you've got to earn that
- 39:43right and there's very few guys that have earned that.
- 39:46I think we can probably count on one hand right now that are
- 39:49playing where you'd be like, hey, what do you think, big
- 39:52fella like you know, this one's on you.
- 39:54And so you you have those guys. But I think when you start
- 40:00seeing it in the playoffs in certain things where we've seen
- 40:03it bite them in the butt on the other side of it right where I
- 40:07mean the obvious infamous Ray's taking Snell out when only four
- 40:12hits in the World Series and we've seen what happened because
- 40:15the numbers where. That was what Errol was really
- 40:20like because Josh, who hosts Game on our network, and myself
- 40:24also were really big fans of Kevin Cash and Errol's like he's
- 40:26overrated. Like he scrutinized Kevin Cash
- 40:29forever when that happens. It's still, I mean, it still
- 40:32gets brought up and that's one of those things where you're
- 40:35just like, you're not wrong. Definitely not wrong.
- 40:39Well, let's get into the rest of these playoff games.
- 40:41We got a couple of get. Speaking of Snell, he's pitching
- 40:44right now. In fact, they just took him out.
- 40:45I'm sure you're not surprised. One hit, four walks, 9K.
- 40:49Well, Dave Roberts is another one that preemptively does it
- 40:51early too, and a lot of people criticize him for that.
- 40:55Look, you know, if you're going to be and look the Blue Jays
- 40:57manager, he, he took out, who do you take out in the third inning
- 41:01in game two? He took out the starting
- 41:03pitcher. Not, not game two, Game 1, he
- 41:05went quick. No, it wasn't the Blue Jays.
- 41:07It was Seattle. It did it early.
- 41:09It was Seattle. Seattle, that's right.
- 41:13So let's get in. Let's get into the rest of these
- 41:14guys we have. The other series in the ALDS
- 41:18between the Tigers and Mariners is knotted up at 1 after both
- 41:22teams won a game by the score of three to two.
- 41:24Tigers won game one with Carrie Carpenter hitting a key to run
- 41:27Homer and Zach Mckinstry getting the game-winning hit in the 11th
- 41:30inning. In Game 2, the Mariners behind
- 41:33Jorge Polanco's two home runs off of Tarek Schuble and Julio
- 41:37Rodriguez's 8th inning RBI double which drove in possible
- 41:41MVP Cal Raleigh which give Seattle the lead for good in
- 41:45that one. In the NLDS, there's action
- 41:47tonight with the Brewers and the Cubs.
- 41:49Brewers are leading one to nothing.
- 41:51That game starts at 9:08. They dominated the Cubs in Game
- 41:5419 to three, including six runs in the first inning against
- 41:57Matthew Boyd, who for some reason was pitching on short
- 42:00rest Jackson Cheerio led the way from Milwaukee with three hits
- 42:04and three RBIs, but left the game with right hamstring
- 42:06tightness. He is playing tonight in the
- 42:09other NLDS series, which some believe contain the two best
- 42:11teams in baseball. Game one went to the Dodgers,
- 42:14who came back to beat the Phillies 5 to 3.
- 42:17The Oscar Hernandez's dominant postseason continues with A3 run
- 42:21home run in the seventh inning, but in the Dodgers ahead for
- 42:23good. Likely NL MVP Shohei Otani was
- 42:26over 4 at the plate and allowed three runs in the first inning
- 42:29as a pitcher, but settled down completely after that, striking
- 42:33out nine batters and keeping the Dodgers in striking distance.
- 42:37Game 2 is in action as we speak. It is 4.
- 42:39Nothing in the 8th inning. Blake Snell just mentioned it.
- 42:43Domination for him. Lizardo had another good game.
- 42:46Three hits, two runs, one walk, 5 KS in his six innings.
- 42:50The Philly bullpen gave up another two.
- 42:52It's 4 nothing. Fish, how do you end up doing on
- 42:54your fantasy team? How did did I do?
- 42:57I helped. Lizardo was actually one of the
- 43:00best guys that I traded for he because he had 216 strikeouts
- 43:05this season and he he's a guy that he's I always try to look
- 43:08at the guys that have the high K rate that maybe they got
- 43:11through, went through some bumps in the season, but they were
- 43:14really good for a stretch that you never know as a fan what
- 43:17happened, but you just assumed something happened and you just
- 43:20hoping that he could find it. And that was that's what I
- 43:23thought was going on with him. He he finished really strong,
- 43:26Sean and I didn't finish strong for me when I traded for him.
- 43:29So with that sweeper that I thought, well, look, I thought
- 43:32the sweeper was going to make him into that new pitcher that
- 43:35we all talked about. Turns out not enough at least.
- 43:39Hence why the Mets fired their whole like freaking staff.
- 43:43Look, he looked good the year before.
- 43:45I, I don't, I, I don't know, man, that's a problem.
- 43:47But let's, let's quickly, let's quickly talk about each one of
- 43:50these series before we move on. I want to get into the ALDS
- 43:55first, the Tigers and Mariners. These are two pretty evenly
- 43:58matched teams. You would you would like to see
- 44:01maybe a little bit more depth in the Detroit lineup then you see.
- 44:05But they have they traded for, I think one of the most underrated
- 44:09moves at the deadline was the Tigers acquiring Finnegan for
- 44:12their bullpen. He has been fantastic for them.
- 44:16That is the guy that they sorely, sorely needed.
- 44:19Now that you kind of have him and vest back there late in the
- 44:22game with a couple other guys. They're they're a lot more sound
- 44:26taking some of those pictures out early beside school, you
- 44:29know, who obviously gives them great length.
- 44:31It's I like their staff. And on the other side, the
- 44:35Mariners, it's like they should be better than what they play.
- 44:40I think that they should have a better offense with Josh Naylor,
- 44:43Juanio Suarez, you know, you got you got Rodriguez, who's, you
- 44:48know, perennial All Star starting out of the gate in his
- 44:51early 20s. And of course, there he is,
- 44:53right there on the screen. Cal Raleigh.
- 44:56Cal Raleigh hit sixty home runs this season.
- 44:59This team should be a should be better than Detroit because
- 45:02their pitching is good too. Kirby started the first game
- 45:05wasn't enough. Is Gilbert's healthy enough to
- 45:08go right now? Is he going?
- 45:11Logan Gilbert. Yeah, he pitched Logan
- 45:13Gilbert's. I don't think he pitched, yeah.
- 45:15I think. They're going to wait it out for
- 45:17later in the series. I.
- 45:18Guess yeah, he was. Yeah, they're going to wait.
- 45:20They have enough gas to. Make up.
- 45:22Though the old flexor tendon earlier this year, Job, if you
- 45:24remember correctly, and of course his arm's not right, but
- 45:27they're going to try to get what they can out of them.
- 45:29Got Castillo over there who's been a good pitcher in this
- 45:32league for a very long time, and that's what you need in the
- 45:34playoffs. You would think those are the
- 45:36types of guys that you want, but Castillo is on a short leash.
- 45:39So Gilbert is scheduled to start game three, though apparently as
- 45:42of. OK, so then it is Gilbert,
- 45:44because Gilbert, I would say before he was hurt, could be
- 45:47considered a top 10 to top 15 pitcher in this game.
- 45:50If he's healthy, he's as good as anybody.
- 45:53And Kirby's, Kirby's something like three years in a row with
- 45:57200 innings before this year. I think he got hurt a little bit
- 45:59this year, but that guy gives great length.
- 46:01He's also in his 20s still that that's a team that has a lot
- 46:05going forwards. I think they're really
- 46:07impressive. I I think Seattle's going to win
- 46:09this series, but Detroit's pesky man.
- 46:12They play a lot of platoon stuff.
- 46:14Like Kerry Carpenter hit that home run and then he wasn't in
- 46:17the next game. You know, it's, it's a very
- 46:21strange team, Detroit. And obviously they're being
- 46:24pieced together by a manager that was forced out of the
- 46:27league for a little bit because of some banging of some trash
- 46:30can. Not what was it Hinch was with?
- 46:35Am I right with that? Yeah, Hinch was the trash can
- 46:38banger and at least A. Trash can banger.
- 46:42Yep. You know, with the buzzers and,
- 46:45you know, Beltran and Cora and the fun bunch, you know, it was,
- 46:50I'm still bitter about that 2017 season, Jabba.
- 46:53I'm sorry the Yankees haven't won, as, you know, since you
- 46:56were there. And, you know, that was our best
- 46:59chance. And now we're sitting here with
- 47:01this team that's very incomplete and we're looking at, you know,
- 47:06I think that Mariners team is pretty good.
- 47:08I think Speedy, you were saying you think they're going to go to
- 47:10the World Series. I had I picked them to go to the
- 47:12World Series because I they were also a team that again, their
- 47:15first playoff, their first playoff year 2022 with this
- 47:18core. They they had those comebacks
- 47:20against Toronto and then they were doing well against the
- 47:22Astros until their bullpen led by Mets legend Rafael Montero at
- 47:26that time, among many others, blowing a lot of leads and they
- 47:30but they still hung tough. So I knew this team was going to
- 47:32be close for a while. My thing is, I just wasn't sure
- 47:34if they were even going to make it because Texas was coming a
- 47:36long late in the season. Then they had a massive losing
- 47:39streak. Literally after the game I went
- 47:41to when the Mets, the Mets collapsed against them.
- 47:43They lost nine in a row. I think after that, Texas did
- 47:46and they missed the playoffs. Then Houston.
- 47:48It's probably the big collapse we didn't really talk about as
- 47:50much was just as bad as the Mets and what we thought Detroit was
- 47:53going to be at the time in the regular season.
- 47:56So I just wasn't even sure if they're going to make it.
- 47:57But I said if they were going to make it, they are very well
- 47:59built because of the pitching depth they have.
- 48:02They probably have the on paper best bullpen among the American
- 48:06League teams and probably besides the Padres and the
- 48:08Brewers, probably there were better ones in baseball and
- 48:12among those playoff teams. So I thought they were very well
- 48:14built. I thought they were the best
- 48:15team at the trade deadline getting, like you said, getting
- 48:18nailer and getting some more offensive depth than they really
- 48:22needed because their top end offense was always very good for
- 48:24a while, but their depth was still a concern.
- 48:28I think they're very well built and it was just a matter of if
- 48:30they had a university, which I did think they did because
- 48:33throughout the year we were saying, OK, Cal rally, is he
- 48:36going to drop off at any point? Is the 60 home run pace that
- 48:40he's on? Is it going to?
- 48:41I think he and the team has played with that kind of chip on
- 48:44their shoulder because of that. And I always thought they're
- 48:46structurally have been well built.
- 48:49And it was just finally their front office was aggressive,
- 48:51both giving them the contracts like they did with Rodriguez and
- 48:54Colorado, they paid this offseason and then finally
- 48:57making those big trades for get some power in their lineup with
- 49:00Suarez and with Naylor and to go along with those guys.
- 49:03So I think they're very well built right now.
- 49:05I definitely think they if they advance in this series, they're
- 49:08going to beat whoever comes out of the Blue Jays or the Yankees
- 49:10series. And I just think they're a
- 49:11little more built now. The Tigers are interesting too.
- 49:13Fish, like you were saying, they just lack a little depth.
- 49:16That's why I worried about them a little more in a longer
- 49:18series, like a shorter series with Cleveland, like they both
- 49:20kind of play the same way. So it's like, all right, which
- 49:23team is great here is going to come out of this And Detroit
- 49:26just willed him. Well, just a little more playing
- 49:29the small ball, but in a longer series, do they have enough
- 49:31pitching death? I mentioned the stat last week,
- 49:33I think besides school Bowl, like the pitchers had a 5.7 E or
- 49:37A or something in the starting rotation and they went with an
- 49:39unconventional approach in game one, kind of going with that
- 49:41opener, kind of those, they've like four or five of those
- 49:44different types of hybrids and they made it work in game one
- 49:46but lost Game 2. So still advantage goes to
- 49:49Seattle even with the series sifts into Detroit.
- 49:51So I'm still going to take him at the moment.
- 49:53Yeah. Let's it's a fun series.
- 49:56No, no, it's a fun series. And yeah, and Speedy, I'm just
- 50:00you touched everything. But I think you are right.
- 50:03If they get in, because then they're going to get Brian Wu
- 50:05back, hopefully. So that just adds more depth to
- 50:07to what they can do. And, you know, just it's
- 50:11frustrating. I don't know if you guys saw his
- 50:12interviews or not, but you could just tell the dejection in his
- 50:15voice, like, you know, not being on the roster for, you know, I
- 50:18mean, shoot, he's but you went six innings for 23 starts in a
- 50:23row before it didn't happen, man.
- 50:24He's been consistent. And you know, it sucks to to
- 50:27grind with your buddies and and do all the work and then you got
- 50:30to sit there and watch. It's probably just eating at
- 50:32him. So he's trying to get back.
- 50:33But yeah, it's it's going to be tough.
- 50:35They, they're so deep now with what they've got and it's, this
- 50:39is a fun series because they play completely different, kind
- 50:42of the same. But then it's just back and
- 50:44forth and it's been, it's been a really, really fun series
- 50:47because you don't know, you've seen it.
- 50:48They've scored two, then they scored two.
- 50:50They scored one, they score one. I'm talking with everybody, you
- 50:53know, on social media and it's like, OK, I got to recorrect
- 50:56myself because they just scored again.
- 50:58So no, it's it's been a really fun series.
- 51:00I want to quickly go through just the Cubs and the Brewers
- 51:04because we've only seen one game.
- 51:05The next game is going to start in about 1/2 hour.
- 51:07The Cubs and Brewers are two teams that, you know, the NL
- 51:12Central strong division. The Brewers, no one really
- 51:17thought they were going to have the season that they had.
- 51:20They've got AI mean Jabba. I think they had the most.
- 51:23Did they have like the most wet plus run differential in the
- 51:27league this year? And I think there's something
- 51:30where they were just the best power hitting team in baseball
- 51:33for most of the season. Maybe it was the NL.
- 51:36They have been just awesome they got then they're getting it from
- 51:39guys that you don't expect. They have a lot of guys that are
- 51:42like 15/15/2020 type of guys. They got Yelich there.
- 51:47They got Contreras for some veterans, but they have a lot of
- 51:51young guys. Bryce Tarang has had a great
- 51:54season at second base. He's one of the five or 10 best
- 51:57second baseman in baseball in his just second year.
- 52:00He's really had a coming out party this year.
- 52:02Caleb Durbin, Yankees gave up for Devin Williams.
- 52:06He's come on late in the season. You got Sal Frelick, who's a
- 52:09nice little outfielder, kind of like a motor guy that could play
- 52:13at the top of the line up or you know, the bottom against, you
- 52:15know, same handed pitching. You got to have guys like that.
- 52:18Reminds me of Brett Gardner, to be honest with you, the right
- 52:21fielder version of Brett Gardner.
- 52:22Maybe not as good as defensively, but you know, like
- 52:24you need guys like that in your lineup and they just have those
- 52:27types of guys. Freddie Peralta has been
- 52:29fantastic this season. He's I don't know how many wins
- 52:33he had. He might have had 18 or 19 by
- 52:35the end of the year, Freddie, but he was absolutely fantastic.
- 52:38He's another one of the guys I traded for in the fantasy team.
- 52:40That was didn't work out for me. Java, I had traded for Shohei
- 52:44Otani and Jose Ramirez. I thought I was I was set except
- 52:48I lost Corey Seeger to an appendix and I lost who else one
- 52:53of my and Kyle Tucker with the leg and he was just terrible the
- 52:56second-half and it did me and just didn't have enough.
- 52:58But guess what? Nobody cares about fantasy.
- 53:00This is the real time, and we've got the Cubs and Brewers facing
- 53:05off for all the marbles. The Cubs?
- 53:08Are they healthy enough to compete with this Brewers team
- 53:10in this series? I don't know.
- 53:12Saya Suzuki had a bad second-half of the season.
- 53:15He's playing hurt. Kyle Tucker is a shell of
- 53:17himself. They don't have their guys
- 53:20hitting on all cylinders. So I worry that combined with
- 53:23their pitching being a little hit or miss, I don't know if
- 53:26they have enough to beat this Brewers team.
- 53:29But, you know, we'll see how it goes.
- 53:30What? Do you think, yeah, it's the the
- 53:34Brewers. I mean, obviously nobody
- 53:35expected Murph is, is an unbelievable manager is he's I
- 53:41got to know him a little bit in college, playing against him
- 53:45when he was at Arizona State and then obviously ended my career
- 53:48in Milwaukee. And then just seeing him from
- 53:51afar, just an absolute stud. He eats pancakes out of his
- 53:55sweatshirt. You gotta like anybody like
- 53:58that. And tacos and.
- 53:59He's got. Tacos.
- 54:01Too, Yeah, tacos, yeah, I mean, it's pizza just lets it out and
- 54:05doesn't care. But I think that's the manager
- 54:08that needs to lead that team with the guys that they have.
- 54:12They obviously, you know, have the talent there, but there's,
- 54:16you know, some young kids that come up.
- 54:17You've you've got those guys in the Yelch's of the world that
- 54:20aren't the, the big raw, raw kind of type guys.
- 54:23And, and Murph is, is that one and just a just a baseball dude,
- 54:27just gritty, just grinds and, and understands how to win.
- 54:30And you saw obviously, you know, he's, he's had some injuries
- 54:34that every team has, but he's battled.
- 54:36He's he's kind of navigated his his way through the waters of,
- 54:39of getting guys healthy and in getting in the right situation.
- 54:42So that series and, and it's kind of, you know, funny council
- 54:46going back back against the Brewers and, and seeing what
- 54:49they've got. And I just, I don't think that
- 54:52Cubs are deep enough. I I think their bats are going
- 54:55to have to kind of pull him through.
- 54:57And like you said, these, these Midwest Cubs fans that can name
- 55:01like Carrie Wood and Mark Pryor that don't have any idea who the
- 55:04heck he's even on the team right now.
- 55:06When he when he yell at you like, oh, they're great.
- 55:08This had another thing. But yeah, I got a couple buddies
- 55:11though that are true die hard Cubs fans.
- 55:13And, you know, they, they got some arms back and Polancia out
- 55:15of the bullpen and they they've they've used him in in weird
- 55:18situations, which, you know, the postseason kind of just makes
- 55:22that happen sometimes. So I just don't think they have
- 55:26a deep enough lineup to be able to get to the Brewers.
- 55:29But you never know. The Cubs are the Cubs.
- 55:31And and we've seen what council did with with the Brewers lineup
- 55:34too, and they're kind of similar, but kind of not.
- 55:37And you know, he's he's he's done those things before.
- 55:40So this this series should be interesting too.
- 55:42It's difficult, I think when you had to maneuver the injury with
- 55:45Kate Horton and I think that would kind of forced the hand of
- 55:47having to pitch Boyd on short rest.
- 55:49And obviously they didn't like you're saying like because they
- 55:52don't have the depth, they didn't really have a good backup
- 55:54plan if he ended up struggling. And obviously they got the run
- 55:56in the first inning with the Michael Bush home run, but it
- 55:59just fell apart after that. And it's hard where there were
- 56:02another team, like I was saying with Detroit, I don't know how
- 56:05much they're built for a longer series because of that.
- 56:07Now, their offense at their peak capabilities this year, we've
- 56:10seen them be a top five offense in baseball this year.
- 56:12Just a matter of which version of Kyle Tucker you going to get.
- 56:16Pete Crow Armstrong the last two months of the season really
- 56:18struggled too. I think he had like a 698 OPS or
- 56:21something the last two months of the year.
- 56:23There was instances where he was getting benched if he wasn't
- 56:25playing good defense a lot of the time.
- 56:28So that type of offensive firepower that you thought you
- 56:31had for a while was still kind of stagnant.
- 56:34Now they're pitching actually picked it up.
- 56:36I was worried they didn't do enough after the deadline, but
- 56:37they picked it up the when the offense was struggling.
- 56:39So they still were never in danger of missing the playoffs,
- 56:42but it still was showing they didn't really have that kind of
- 56:45identity. Now they last first round, they
- 56:47played a Padres team that was kind of top heavy as well.
- 56:49They had pitchers that were just coming back.
- 56:51So I'm like, OK, they'll probably be fine to win that
- 56:53series with their offensive capabilities that they do have
- 56:55and the top end pitching that can be strong.
- 56:58But it just for this types of series, it was not as big of a
- 57:02depth piece. And like the Brewers, Jabba, you
- 57:04were mentioning it with like you have all these different types
- 57:06of Pat Murphy trusts a lot of these types of young guys with
- 57:10the mentality that he has. And Fish, you were mentioning
- 57:12statistically speaking, they have a lot of 1515 guys, but
- 57:15they don't have a lot of guys that are like going to play all
- 57:17the full time playing time. Somebody like free look like you
- 57:19mentioned, like he sometimes doesn't play against certain
- 57:23splits. And a lot of these types of
- 57:24infielders in the same kind of boat too, because they lost
- 57:27Willie Adamus this offseason. And because of that, they just
- 57:31have a system that is very different where normally teams
- 57:34would build up the pitching depth a lot more.
- 57:35The Brewers, we would talk about a bunch of the demotions that
- 57:38they had to send the young guys down and the more offensive guys
- 57:41will come up. And it's just a system that's
- 57:43very unconventional for today's game, where in today's game you
- 57:46want to build up more bullpen depth, more pitching depth so
- 57:48you can make the offense work overtime.
- 57:50And the Brewers just did the opposite.
- 57:53Let's talk about the big series. And before we get out of this,
- 57:56the Dodgers and the Phillies. Shohei Otani gets hit up for
- 58:00three runs in the first inning. Looks like the Phillies are
- 58:03going to be able to take the game.
- 58:05You've got to be able to win the game if you get to Shohei Otani
- 58:09because you know it's not going to last.
- 58:10He was able to shut him down after that.
- 58:13And then consistent playoff performer to Oscar Hernandez
- 58:18with another. He's going off.
- 58:20He's 2. He's 2 for 3:00 tonight. 2 for
- 58:22three tonight, they're winning 4 to 1.
- 58:24Looks like we're getting up to a big at bat here.
- 58:26Kyle Schwarber's up with the man on one out in the eighth.
- 58:29It's 4/1. She hands in for Snell.
- 58:33I think they might be taking him out or they're talking to him on
- 58:35the mound, but I don't have the game up.
- 58:37Just looking at the game. Cast this Dodger team.
- 58:42I think we all forgot that they're the best team in the
- 58:44league because they've been banged up and having all this
- 58:46stuff. You realize who their closer is.
- 58:48Now it's Roki Sasaki and he's throwing 100 and. 101. 100 and
- 58:54100, and it's just like, Oh yeah, we have this guy too.
- 58:59Oh yeah, we paid this guy too. Yeah.
- 59:01Just a closer off the, you know, it's better than most guys that
- 59:03you can even find anywhere in your system.
- 59:07And they're bringing them in now.
- 59:09Snell is a Cy Young. He's awesome.
- 59:12Shohei Otani, awesome. The rest of their staff.
- 59:16I mean, if Clayton Kershaw is your worst guy, is he on the DS
- 59:20roster? Nope.
- 59:21Kershaw. Not Clayton Kershaw.
- 59:23And he had double, he had double digit wins.
- 59:26Double digit. Wins and a mid three era.
- 59:30You realize how good that team is?
- 59:32Man, It's crazy. They've got Mookie Betts and
- 59:35people forget that Mookie Betts is there just cuz he was a
- 59:38little down this year. You forget.
- 59:39Remember he had that weird stomach thing the beginning of
- 59:41the year and he lost like 50? Pounds lost like 20 lbs or
- 59:43something. It was something ridiculous.
- 59:45And guess what? He made it through the whole
- 59:47season. He's just fine.
- 59:49He could play any position. I think in entire game,
- 59:52basically, maybe except catcher. They got Otani, which is going
- 59:55to win the NLMVP. You got Hernandez.
- 59:58Freddie Freeman, you forget about him.
- 1:00:00He's one of the best first baseman in the last decade.
- 1:00:02And then they have all these other role players, Andy Pajes,
- 1:00:05who's been this great, you know, revelation in the outfield for
- 1:00:09them. And then they've got Kiki
- 1:00:10Hernandez, who's just always there in the playoffs, finds a
- 1:00:14way to make. He always finds himself in the
- 1:00:16middle of it Some, like somewhere.
- 1:00:18Tommy Edmond. Hasn't had a good year, but you
- 1:00:20know he'll get involved. Max Muncie, same thing.
- 1:00:23You know those guys are going to get involved.
- 1:00:24They got unlimited money. They just do It's crazy.
- 1:00:28It's not fair. And even the Phillies who have a
- 1:00:31great roster, who have great pitching, although they did lose
- 1:00:34Zach Wheeler and I think that's probably the difference is
- 1:00:37they're going to need then you need everything to play with
- 1:00:40this Dodgers team. I think these are the two best
- 1:00:42teams in baseball. And I don't think it's, I don't,
- 1:00:45I don't even know if it's close. The Philly, Honestly, Phillies
- 1:00:47were my the World Series pick at the start of the year because it
- 1:00:50felt like a team that had the right mixture of a playoff
- 1:00:53identity combined with the veterans combined with on base
- 1:00:56machine and got teams that walk a lot.
- 1:00:58And they're kind of doing the opposite of that.
- 1:01:00You're seeing them swinging first pitch all the time now and
- 1:01:02it's just counterintuitive to what they're supposed to be as
- 1:01:05an identity. Like you can, you could swing
- 1:01:08first pitch like you look at a team like the Brewers that have
- 1:01:11all these like more of the power hitter, less of the power
- 1:01:14hitters and more of the on base guys that get that just get on
- 1:01:16base and swing first pitch. That kind of identity works.
- 1:01:18Jabba, the Royal team you played with was a lot like that, a
- 1:01:21swinging first pitch type of team and it worked for the way
- 1:01:24they were trying to play baseball.
- 1:01:25I don't think the Phillies are like that yet.
- 1:01:26They're trying to be like that swinging first pitch all the
- 1:01:28time and it doesn't make as much sense.
- 1:01:30Now there are points in the game where it's like Otani, like are
- 1:01:33they going to be able to get to him because he's trying to pitch
- 1:01:36and hit at the same time? I was questioning if pitching
- 1:01:38him game one was the right strategy compared to maybe later
- 1:01:41in the series, maybe go for a game three and maybe a game six
- 1:01:44type of not Game 6, but maybe out of the bullpen for a Game 5
- 1:01:47type approach would have been. Would it have been that to make
- 1:01:52sense? I don't know, but it looked like
- 1:01:53he was getting roughed up early and it affected his hitting.
- 1:01:56So I was surprised they were able to make that work.
- 1:01:57But Matt? Strong, didn't he strike?
- 1:02:00He struck out four times that game, right?
- 1:02:03Four times. Yeah, OK.
- 1:02:04And then I want to get to this reliever, to Matt Stromo, I
- 1:02:07thought was a good reliever for a while, even when he's going
- 1:02:10back to with the Padres. He's been really bad in the
- 1:02:12playoffs, even when he was with the Padres against the Phillies.
- 1:02:14And then last year he was really bad against the Mets.
- 1:02:16And yet they're still trusting him in a lot of high leverage
- 1:02:18situation. And Java, you were talking about
- 1:02:20tipping pitches before, too. There was accusations of that.
- 1:02:22And you can't do that kind of thing against an offense and a
- 1:02:25system that's so good, like the Dodgers.
- 1:02:27Like the Dodgers, yeah, you could say they could spend the
- 1:02:30money all you want, but conceptually, like they've
- 1:02:33gotten like a lot of these little nuances, analytically
- 1:02:36very strong too, and player development wise, rebirthing all
- 1:02:39these players. Like look at somebody like
- 1:02:41Michael Kopac last year. That was a big part of their
- 1:02:43role was what top pitching prospect with the White Sox
- 1:02:45couldn't get anything going. And they do all the little
- 1:02:48things. Everyone says, oh, they just
- 1:02:50spend money to do all that. No, it's they're doing all the
- 1:02:53little things to make it work. And now they're proving that
- 1:02:56again. They are the most talented team
- 1:02:58when they're healthy. I thought just being it's hard
- 1:03:00to repeat being the Phillies. I think that I thought they had
- 1:03:02a core that was close for a while and I think their window
- 1:03:05is closing because they're going to lose a lot in the offseason.
- 1:03:08I thought it was the year for them, but they're going to have
- 1:03:10to prove a lot off this bullpen if they're going to have any
- 1:03:12shot to win this game and then win the series, really.
- 1:03:16Yeah, I mean, Dodgers too. It's funny.
- 1:03:19They always say, oh, you just bought a championship.
- 1:03:22I mean, they said that to us in 09.
- 1:03:24You still got to go out and perform.
- 1:03:26You still got to do whatever you want to call them, double D's or
- 1:03:29whatever and not those type of double D's, right.
- 1:03:35The deferred Dodgers or whatever, whatever people are
- 1:03:38calling them, they still have to go out and execute and score
- 1:03:42more runs and not let the other team score.
- 1:03:45So let's not let's not forget that they are really, really
- 1:03:49good at that and they have a really, really good lineup and
- 1:03:52really, really good arms. I mean, the crazy part to me is
- 1:03:56it's the first time ever in baseball history starter get the
- 1:04:00win and a Japanese closer get a save.
- 1:04:02And that's that's great for baseball.
- 1:04:04Like that isn't absolutely great for baseball.
- 1:04:06It's great for these young kids that, you know, know that they
- 1:04:09can have a chance, you know, and, and play.
- 1:04:11And and that's not just the Japanese we're talking about all
- 1:04:14over the world. Having these guys from
- 1:04:16everywhere to to know that you're you can have a chance to
- 1:04:19play and, and and play big situations.
- 1:04:22It's it's been really cool. And I think it's it's awesome to
- 1:04:24see, not awesome if you are a Phillies fan, but but it's great
- 1:04:30for the game. And it it's just the Dodgers are
- 1:04:33just, they can beat you from top to bottom and that's they can
- 1:04:38beat you with speed. They can beat you with clutch
- 1:04:40hitting and homers. And then, I mean, when you got a
- 1:04:43guy, you know, that can literally, you know, throw 100
- 1:04:47and go hit a Homer and then you got a guy, it's like, oh, let's
- 1:04:49make him a closer. Oh, OK.
- 1:04:52And then it's like, oh, we paid a guy 160 million, but he's been
- 1:04:55hurt, but let's, let's throw him out of the bullpen.
- 1:04:57So yeah, they have a, they have a plethora of options to beat
- 1:05:02you, and they're going to be tough to beat if they're kicking
- 1:05:05on all cylinders. It's going to be an interesting
- 1:05:08rest of the series. It's in the top of the ninth
- 1:05:10right now. Looks like the Dodgers are going
- 1:05:12to earn the driver's seat. They'll bring in Sasaki throwing
- 1:05:15101, probably the. No, he wasn't warming up.
- 1:05:17He was trying. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:05:20He's not bad either though, you know.
- 1:05:22No, it was, it was. Yeah, trying to invest here.
- 1:05:25We're we're warming up. Oh yeah, What?
- 1:05:26Whatever we'll give, we'll give Sasaki.
- 1:05:28Yeah, which, which one do you want?
- 1:05:30Sorry, sorry. We got options.
- 1:05:32My bad. Trying and LED the league in
- 1:05:35like saves for like 3 years in a row.
- 1:05:37Like Nah, power sinker. Yeah, we're good.
- 1:05:41It's it's just amazing. Well, before we get into more
- 1:05:44stuff of baseball and we do have our guest in, we'll talk about,
- 1:05:47we'll talk to him in a little bit after our break.
- 1:05:49But before the break, today's golf clap of the day.
- 1:05:54This deserves a golf clap. No doubt.
- 1:05:57Golf clap. Golf clap.
- 1:06:02All right, so I guess we didn't get the the graphic for that.
- 1:06:06Might be my mistake, but here we are in the golf clap of the day.
- 1:06:10Today's golf clap of the day goes to WNBA Commissioner Kathy
- 1:06:14Engelberg. On Friday, a report came out on
- 1:06:17ESPN that said there were a lot of inaccuracies in the comments.
- 1:06:22Injured Minnesota Link star and MVP runner up Nafiza Collier
- 1:06:26said, completely trashing the embattled commissioner for quote
- 1:06:29UN quote, the worst leadership in the world, amongst other
- 1:06:33things she had to say about her. The biggest bone of contention
- 1:06:36was that Engelbert denied telling Collier that WNBA
- 1:06:40players, including Caitlin Clark, should be on their knees
- 1:06:43in gratitude for the platform the league has given the women.
- 1:06:48Engelbert said she was confident she could repair the trust of
- 1:06:51the league, despite virtually the entire league supporting
- 1:06:54Collier's comments. Kathy Engelbert may be the last
- 1:06:58person to realize it, but it's time for her to step down.
- 1:07:02Nice sort of apology, I guess. But for tonight's golf clap,
- 1:07:06that goes to the commissioner of the West for not much longer,
- 1:07:10probably. There you go, golf clap, golf,
- 1:07:13clap for Miss Engelbert, and there it is.
- 1:07:16He's an idiot. Pretty pretty terrible we are so
- 1:07:22we'll be so here it is golf clap of the day.
- 1:07:24I thought it was a real good show.
- 1:07:25Thanks special thanks to Thomas Caranante, fan sided content
- 1:07:29director Co host of the Yanks go yard podcast.
- 1:07:33Follow him at X at Tommy's under score takes and find his channel
- 1:07:37on YouTube. He was fantastic really good
- 1:07:41stuff on the Yankees earlier tonight.
- 1:07:43We had a lot of fun. Thanks.
- 1:07:44Special thanks to Jake and Armando Horda coming on talking
- 1:07:48about their beloved Penn State Nittany Lions and the struggles
- 1:07:51they're dealing with over here. And a real special thanks to our
- 1:07:55intern Jared, who did all the work backstage as a producer for
- 1:07:59the first time while I'm here in the in the host chair.
- 1:08:02That's a great job by you, Jared.
- 1:08:03Thank you for all the work that you put in tonight.
- 1:08:05Was it? Jared was rocking a jersey too?
- 1:08:07What jersey was he rocking? Yeah, Jared, come on into the
- 1:08:10screen. You deserve to be in here for a
- 1:08:12little bit at the end of the show.
- 1:08:13You got some kind of Basketball Jersey going where we got you?
- 1:08:19I'll do it speedy. Here, here, I'll bounce out.
- 1:08:22No. No, you're fine.
- 1:08:23It's just me and Speedy are having a war of who's going to
- 1:08:25add us, add Jarrett right now with our clicker fingers.
- 1:08:28Jarrett, I think you might be frozen.
- 1:08:31So we're not going to see it right now, unfortunately.
- 1:08:34But Jarrett's done a great job for us.
- 1:08:37Errol will be back. We're not having the show on
- 1:08:39Wednesday because he's not going to be back.
- 1:08:41So we're going to have it on Thursday.
- 1:08:43So pay attention. The show will be on Thursday.
- 1:08:45By then, we'll know if the Yankees are going to Game 5 or
- 1:08:48we're doing a post mortem on the season.
- 1:08:50Also Thursday, speedy, the Giants face the Eagles.
- 1:08:53We're going to have to do the show live while that's going on.
- 1:08:57I don't know if I can handle that.
- 1:08:59That's going to be tough. One.
- 1:09:00I think they're going to get absolutely murdered.
- 1:09:03It's it's not good. It's not a good look for the
- 1:09:05Giants. But maybe the Eagles are a
- 1:09:06little, you know, struggling a little bit.
- 1:09:09Maybe Brian Dabel and Shane Bowen will cook something up for
- 1:09:12him. Speedy to.
- 1:09:14Only. Lose by 14.
- 1:09:18Honestly, if they lose, I guess losing is losing at this point,
- 1:09:21but I do hope it's a little bit competitive.
- 1:09:24Well, it should be good on Thursday.
- 1:09:25Who do we have coming on Thursday?
- 1:09:27Alright. Well, thanks to the new King of
- 1:09:29the Jungle for getting us these two guests, 2 very special

- 1:09:43children. So she'll be the first one.
- 1:09:44And the second one is a celebrity chef, Glenn Rolnick,
- 1:09:47who is the director of culinary operations for the Ala Carte
- 1:09:51Restaurant Group, where he's worked there for the last 11
- 1:09:54years in New York City. So both of them will be joining
- 1:09:56us at 8:45. That's great.
- 1:09:58You know, we've been trying to talk about get with some of
- 1:10:01these people that do these kind of functions, get our name out
- 1:10:04there, be be a part of some of those better functions that are
- 1:10:07going on, especially charitable things.
- 1:10:09That's something that job in the mouth is going to be looking
- 1:10:11forward to doing in the next calendar year.
- 1:10:14You guys are going to see us around.
- 1:10:16You're going to see us everywhere.
- 1:10:17I know Jabba's doing the rounds and lots of podcasts all over

- 1:10:42Have a good one, everybody. Is the worldwide sports radio
- 1:10:46network.
