Latest / Brandon Fogal Evolution / #52 - Luka’s Lakers Debut, Kendrick’s Diss, Super Bowl Recap
Transcript
- 0:00A lot of hot things happening right now. I don't know if you all caught the
- 0:03Luka Doncic. He is now on the Lakers.
- 0:07He had his debut against the Jazz, and it did not disappoint.
- 0:11Are you a fan of the Lakers? Lakers, Celtics, they are polarizing teams, for me at least.
- 0:17My heart has always been with the Celtics ever since I've been an NBA fan.
- 0:22But ultimately, I am a player-driven person, especially in the NBA.
- 0:30You could say I'm a fair-weather hopper of teams because when LeBron came out,
- 0:36I loved LeBron so much when he came out of high school.
- 0:40And I had to switch my favorite team to the Cavs. And I was diehard Cavs.
- 0:45And I loved him so much for so many years. And I felt like my heart was broken
- 0:50too many times, especially when he went down to Miami.
- 0:54And I kind of jumped ship. You know, in that sense, it's because I live in Kansas
- 0:59City and we do not have an NBA team actually where I'm located.
- 1:03So I had to choose a NBA team.
- 1:07So I picked the Boston Celtics because they are my favorite all time player is Larry Bird.
- 1:13So I went with the Boston Celtics when I started loving the NBA,
- 1:16which was probably about in middle school.
- 1:19And but since we don't have a team in Kansas City, it was hard to just completely buy in.
- 1:24So I bounced around a little bit, and I ended up jumping from LeBron to Curry,
- 1:31you know, and there was a few years that the Celtics were awesome,
- 1:34and I stuck with them because they're my tried and true team,
- 1:38but have you seen this Luka Doncic guy?
- 1:41I know he's been actually going for a while, and I looked a little bit of his
- 1:46history, and he started professionally when he was like 13 years old,
- 1:51and he is Slovenian, so So he's from the European League.
- 1:55And so he started with New Madrid or something like that. And he was just a
- 2:00firecracker, a dynamite right from the get-go.
- 2:03And he's got an amazing personality if you've actually saw some of his stuff.
- 2:08He's so interesting and so fun to watch.
- 2:10But him coming to the Lakers, this could be, for me at least,
- 2:15a reuniting of my love for LeBron James because I have definitely fell away from following him.
- 2:22If you're old school or you're new school, you kind of have this debate whether
- 2:25it's Michael Jordan or LeBron James, and I've always landed on Michael Jordan.
- 2:28Even when I love LeBron James, I would say Jordan is the GOAT of all time, but...
- 2:35LeBron was always just so, I felt a connection with him because when he was
- 2:40coming out of high school, I was coming out of high school.
- 2:42So it's like, I can, you know, I could still be playing in the NBA right now,
- 2:46you know, like I could still be playing in the NBA, you know,
- 2:49if I had maybe that length of a LeBron James, you know, and that those hops,
- 2:54but I felt a connection with him because he was in, like, basically my same age.
- 3:00And I don't know what it was.
- 3:03I maybe, in a sense, because I don't have that tie with an NBA team,
- 3:08like, where we live, it's been tough to completely be bought and sold on the NBA.
- 3:16And I've kind of wish-washed and went back and forth. I definitely fell away,
- 3:20you know, when it became so political.
- 3:22But for me this Luka Doncic
- 3:26coming to the to the Lakers it is almost
- 3:29going to spark something make the NBA
- 3:32interesting again because the I'm not
- 3:35alone in this the NBA has not been interesting whatsoever it has not been fun
- 3:40to watch it like it became so political and it became just the teams don't play
- 3:46until April you know everybody checks out it's not like the 90s basketball where every game,
- 3:52Michael Jordan, when he was playing,
- 3:55he thought like, I don't know who's coming to this game, who saved up to bring their kid to this game.
- 4:02So I'm going to give everything I can on every 82 games of the year, every, every game.
- 4:09And like, I don't know if we'll ever see that again, you know,
- 4:13that kind of determination and just like fire from an individual like Michael Jordan.
- 4:18There's only one Michael Jordan, but it's just like the NBA back then was just so old school.
- 4:23It was the school of hard knocks for anybody. But to me, this, this.
- 4:28The Lakers taking on Luka Doncic, which I could feel a coming of my,
- 4:34like he becoming my favorite player.
- 4:36And I know I've bounced around from favorite players.
- 4:39So, so many times, but like from, I don't know about you. Are you driven in sports by the players?
- 4:46At least in some sports NBA is, I mean, to me, maybe it's just because we don't
- 4:53got a team, but I don't know what it is, But I would say I am driven definitely
- 4:57by the sports, like by the actual player themselves.
- 5:02And I want to, I'm going to start getting back into the NBA big time.
- 5:06And the Lakers playing the Jazz was just fire. It was awesome.
- 5:10It did not disappoint whatsoever.
- 5:12Luka came out and there was an immediate connection with my old friend,
- 5:17my old guy, my old pal, LeBron James, coming back.
- 5:22You know, like he never left. he never left I'm
- 5:25the one that kind of like went my own way you know and
- 5:28I I have to I have to announce this it
- 5:31was the the NBA finals and
- 5:34when he was on the heat and it like it was that loss to
- 5:37the Mavericks you know way back when and I was just like I can't
- 5:40take it anymore and I I and I jumped ship
- 5:43and then he went on to win so many after that and became awesome so it's like
- 5:47I drifted away I drifted away from the you know the relationship but but I could
- 5:53come definitely come back with this Luka Doncic coming over and coming on the
- 5:58Lakers because they are going to be awesome for a long time going forward.
- 6:03He is a special player and he's a young player. He's definitely a young player.
- 6:07He's like only 25 years old. And he's so interesting.
- 6:11You got to have personality definitely to drive people to want to come and see you.
- 6:17It can't be just about how awesome you can dunk the
- 6:20ball you know there's got to be storylines and luka
- 6:23donchich could possibly be that could possibly
- 6:26be that and but it's like it's like
- 6:29tearing me in so many different ways you know because i've i haven't
- 6:33wanted to root for the the lakers because of a celtics fan but are you all do
- 6:37you all face these type of conundrums in your lives these dilemmas that you
- 6:40just cannot just you gotta like it's like think these things through you gotta
- 6:45have like process them in your mind and like how am I going to stand on a position,
- 6:51when my favorite team's over here but my favorite player's over here and it's
- 6:54like it's tough it gets tough in other news have you did.
- 7:01I might have to go watch again the halftime show that happened this past Superbowl
- 7:06because the Kendrick, Kendrick Lamar, I, it was kind of in the background.
- 7:10I was paying attention a little bit, but it was not at the forefront of my mind.
- 7:14And I, I didn't think it was, I didn't actually like the halftime show that
- 7:17much, but now just seeing so many, like he has so many, like, I don't know.
- 7:22Secret things like hidden in there and just underneath the surface that he was kind of like,
- 7:28you know, sending out signals it i almost
- 7:31want to go watch it again and see what it was he actually saying
- 7:34and i guess there's there's been i don't know if you all have
- 7:37heard there's been this beef between kendrick lamar
- 7:40and drake i don't know is that another thing
- 7:43you got to pick one or the other do you got to pick kendrick or
- 7:46drake can you like them both is it
- 7:49because to me like this there was something happening
- 7:52in the show that you know you kind of
- 7:55got it from a distance but when you actually kind of zoom in a
- 7:58little bit you can see and if you've seen
- 8:01the videos he did he openly dissed him
- 8:04in the super bowl the highest stage the highest
- 8:06stage you could basically get the highest stage that anyone
- 8:10could all eyes are on him and he openly dissed him you know you could say they're
- 8:15going back and forth for years now and there's a lot to that relationship which
- 8:19is tough to to digest and understand but to do it on that stage you know like
- 8:25but would drake would have done the same thing? Who knows? Who knows?
- 8:29And you should see what he said to him, which is like, it's kind of,
- 8:32it's kind of a little off-putting, maybe just a little accusatory,
- 8:36or I don't know, or just maybe just ruffling some feathers, you know?
- 8:40He didn't, like, he didn't dial it down with what he said. It was definitely...
- 8:47Strong, but subtle, strong, but subtle.
- 8:50So, and I I've had a day to recoup after the loss of my chiefs.
- 8:57And I can actually think a little clearer. I can actually give a stronger,
- 9:02a more lucid point of my, how I understood the game, how I was receiving the game.
- 9:09It was definitely very tough to watch. I don't think going into the fourth quarter,
- 9:14I still had a little bit of hope.
- 9:17I still had a little bit of hope that Mahomes was going to do something Mahomes in.
- 9:20I mean, they were down 34 to nothing, wasn't it?
- 9:25It was something like that. They had eclipsed the mark with Tom Brady.
- 9:32Where his comeback against the Falcons years ago in the Super Bowl.
- 9:35And in that game, I was like, Brady was down.
- 9:39And I seriously said, Brady is going to come back. He's going to come back.
- 9:43And it seemed like there was no chance.
- 9:45And heck, there was like two minutes left in the third quarter.
- 9:47They're down by 25 points.
- 9:48And I felt that he was going to come back. And I was just locked into that game.
- 9:52And he did. And it was incredible.
- 9:55Fast forward to right now with Mahomes. He is a level above Brady in the sense of awareness.
- 10:04He's a level above Brady in awareness. And just his athleticism and his just,
- 10:10I don't even know, his stuff. The stuff that Mahomes has got a little bit better
- 10:15than Brady. You know, I mean, you could say a lot better.
- 10:19Brady, the thing about him, he just had that it factor. Like,
- 10:22it just, he made it happen kind of thing.
- 10:25That, it was just, it was insane with his career.
- 10:29But I was like, Mahomes, he's gonna come back. I still had some hope almost
- 10:34going into the fourth quarter.
- 10:36But it's just, it just, maybe it was just that blind naivete of myself,
- 10:42you know, that I thought like he's going to do something magical. I really believe that.
- 10:47And then also, I mean, so many different storylines happened in the Superbowl.
- 10:50Travis Kelsey, would there have been a proposal? Would there have been a proposal to Taylor Swift?
- 10:56Had he had, they have won? I don't know, but it didn't happen.
- 11:00And the, another thing, Taylor Swift getting booed. I'm going to direct that towards Philly fans.
- 11:06I'm saying, I'm not even going to hint that maybe it was Philly fans.
- 11:10I'm going to say with clarity, with precision, it was the Philly fans.
- 11:15Because you could hear throughout that entire Super Bowl, every play that went for the Chiefs, boo!
- 11:22And every play that went for the Eagles, just cheers, eruption, you know?
- 11:28And so that loud of a noise happening when Taylor Swift went on the Megatron
- 11:34and you see that meme of her looking and it's just like.
- 11:39She doesn't, it's not computing what is happening. I'm a Swifty.
- 11:43I'm, I'm, I've been open and honest about that. I'm a Swift, Swift.
- 11:47I'm a Swifty. I love Taylor Swift. She's, I love her music. I've,
- 11:51and I followed her, you know, I guess I haven't followed her.
- 11:54You know, that kind of sounds a little weird. I've, I've, I've,
- 11:56I've actually wanted to go to Taylor Swift concert, you know,
- 11:59probably for my, for my kids, you know, go let them go.
- 12:02But I've actually wanted to see because she's been always very interesting and
- 12:05she would put on a great show.
- 12:07So she's always been, you know, you can't really, you don't need to argue too much for Taylor Swift.
- 12:11So the argument is how can people boo Taylor Swift?
- 12:16How does that even happen? But it happened. It happened. And I attribute it to the Philly fans.
- 12:22I attribute it or just the haters of the Chiefs.
- 12:25You got your way. The Chiefs have been dethroned. But, you know,
- 12:29there's not a story unless someone, if someone doesn't fall to the bottom and
- 12:36have to grind their way to the top, there's no story.
- 12:39If someone just wins every year and just nonstop every year, there's no story.
- 12:45It becomes boring. It becomes hum-dum rigmarole, you know.
- 12:49But now the Chiefs have got another chip on their shoulder, another chip,
- 12:55you know, as if they didn't need more. but they got it.
- 12:59So it's been a crazy last few days. I'm going to start thinking a little bit
- 13:03clearer now that the chiefs, now that the dust has settled, I can actually move
- 13:10forward a little bit and just get ready for next year.
- 13:12But it's been, it's been crazy bonkers.
- 13:15So we'll leave it at that. Have a wonderful day, everyone. Peace.
