- 0:01KO, what's the what's been the biggest
- 0:02difference for you guys these last few
- 0:04games on defense, especially slowing
- 0:05down really good guards um like y'all
- 0:08have?
- 0:09>> I would say the attention to detail to
- 0:12the scouts. Um I think we've
- 0:15since our last loss clamp down on the
- 0:18details just in terms of individual
- 0:21players and just not doing the extra. I
- 0:23think we've got outside of ourselves in
- 0:25certain games of just not really
- 0:26believing what's really going on in the
- 0:29game. these players. So, I think just
- 0:30cracking down the details.
- 0:33>> What is a healthy Murf meant for you
- 0:36guys um on the court? And from a
- 0:39confident standpoint?
- 0:40>> Yeah. Um I definitely have memory of
- 0:43saying like having a healthy Keshan
- 0:45Murphy and a healthy Keshan Hall is like
- 0:47I think one of the scariest front courts
- 0:50you could you could play against. But
- 0:52he's been tremendous. I think having him
- 0:54and then complimenting Philip off the
- 0:55bench is is great for us. But um I mean
- 1:00we've all seen he's been great. But if
- 1:02he can stay healthy, I think he'll do
- 1:03nothing but get better. Having him
- 1:05actually get reps and be healthy for a
- 1:07string of games up until now has been
- 1:09what it clearly has showed for us.
- 1:12>> Stephen was in here. He was talking
- 1:13about all the firepower that Texas has.
- 1:16Said that you would be kind of the front
- 1:18line of defense guarding some of those
- 1:20guys. Talk about the challenge that you
- 1:22personally feel for trying to do some of
- 1:24that tomorrow.
- 1:24>> Yeah. Um, every game I I try to put
- 1:27myself in the mindset of we have to win
- 1:29the guard match up. Not necessar not
- 1:31necessarily by out scoring or out
- 1:33playing. It's just like for me it's
- 1:34defense. So if we can lock down those
- 1:36guards, I think that changes everything
- 1:39in the game. So my approach to
- 1:40especially this next coming game is is
- 1:43obviously stopping who we need to stop,
- 1:45but understanding that I am the front
- 1:48line of defense. So it's not like I can
- 1:49come out and be lax. So, I mean, it's
- 1:51the same approach as any other game.
- 1:54>> You guys have shot really well from the
- 1:56free throw line these last few games.
- 1:57You hadn't missed one in the last three
- 1:58games. Just how how big is it as a team
- 2:00as a whole? Y'all getting as good as
- 2:02y'all gotten these last few games for
- 2:04for the line?
- 2:05>> Free throws have been the reason we've
- 2:06lost I think some games. So, just being
- 2:09able to make those free throws, those
- 2:10free throws in conference play, I think
- 2:12is more important than obviously
- 2:14non-conference, but
- 2:16we've had some some funny things go on
- 2:18and for guys to make free throws, I
- 2:20think. We heard if y'all heard the
- 2:21stories of how guys are making free
- 2:23throws and be insane, but it's
- 2:24definitely fun to see.
- 2:26>> Yeah.
- 2:26>> Um I don't know if you noticed Keesan
- 2:29Murphy switches feet, but he switched
- 2:31his feet up and I do that and I kind of
- 2:33like helped him do that. So it's funny
- 2:35to see him switch his feet and he had a
- 2:36game I think it was miss where he made
- 2:38like five or six and I was just like so
- 2:40happy for him. It was like just to see
- 2:41stuff like that. It's funny to see.
- 2:46>> So you talked about handling success.
- 2:49What's the message as an for your older
- 2:51guys to this team about not getting too
- 2:54high, too low, and handling success?
- 2:56>> Yeah. Um, being [clears throat] able to
- 2:58learn in winning, I think, is is huge
- 3:01for especially me. I don't really harp
- 3:03on wins. I feel like most of my college
- 3:05career, even in high school, has been
- 3:08generically winning. So, I've had to
- 3:10learn how to be better in winning in a
- 3:11lot of different ways. So, just not
- 3:13being satisfied, keeping the same
- 3:15approach that we had whenever we were
- 3:17desperate and and just remembering that
- 3:19you can't really put yourself in those
- 3:22shoes because that's not what's going
- 3:23on, but you can remember back how you
- 3:27felt when you were one one and three,
- 3:29two and three, three and three, need to
- 3:31win this game. Feel like the season's on
- 3:32the line, stuff like that. So, just
- 3:33keeping that same approach.
- 3:35>> Kevin, you talked about details when it
- 3:38comes to to the defense, especially
- 3:40coach has talked a lot about being in
- 3:41the gaps, especially again in
- 3:44one-on-one. What does that mean to you
- 3:46as a perimeter defender being in the
- 3:48gaps and getting help in the gaps
- 3:50defensively?
- 3:51>> Yeah, I think that's that's helped us
- 3:53just in our connectivity and our like
- 3:56feeling like there's a comfort. I think
- 3:58being on the ball a lot. You need to
- 3:59feel like either one way or another I
- 4:02have help one like I have to have help
- 4:04one of those ways. So I think in our
- 4:06defense that's helped feel like we're
- 4:08more connected. gives me a comfort and a
- 4:09peace knowing that if I do get beat one
- 4:11way or another, somebody can help me
- 4:12just for a split second to get back.
