- 0:32Speaker 1: If this is true, I'm done? So who now? Who's
- 0:34Speaker 1: who'se bear? Source? Whose bear? So? Well? I just happened.
- 0:42Speaker 1: I can't believe you got Mike. Oh god, but this
- 0:48Speaker 1: is true that I'm done And you said just shut up?
- 0:52Speaker 1: Oh I didn't say fudge, right, And it's all about
- 0:56Speaker 1: leverage if you don't have two knees to tunis been
- 0:58Speaker 1: conference for two years now from him. There's also a
- 1:01Speaker 1: report that Joe Judge has become a Bailey advocate. Yeah,
- 1:04Speaker 1: I think that. Okay, Well, then I take it back,
- 1:06Speaker 1: because then that's probably not true. I forget ben voland
- 1:09Speaker 1: most Globe breeders do. I agree Steve Sarkia when I
- 1:13Speaker 1: called it like that, even I'm not willing to take
- 1:18Speaker 1: you on. Paul's my little pole. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you
- 1:24Speaker 1: want to get on his pole? Do you want the
- 1:26Speaker 1: big one or the little one? It's been getting bigger.
- 1:29Speaker 1: This is Patriot's Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan. All Right, welcome
- 1:35Speaker 1: the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Thursday here at Gillette's Stadium,
- 1:39Speaker 1: and we've got another two hours of action, pack Patriots talk.
- 1:43Speaker 1: It's deuced. It's tamara soon to be Paul, myself, Matt
- 1:47Speaker 1: in the booth, and uh, Thursday means his video day.
- 1:50Speaker 1: I guess right day here we are, Yeah, Hi everybody, Yeah, Hi,
- 1:54Speaker 1: we're on video today. Um. We have a lot to
- 1:57Speaker 1: talk about because mainly I think Mike Reese's report that
- 2:03Speaker 1: you know, barring you know, the only hurdle between Mac
- 2:07Speaker 1: playing on Monday night is how he looks in practice.
- 2:11Speaker 1: But otherwise he's good to go. I think that was
- 2:13Speaker 1: the thing to point out about it, Like you've seemed
- 2:15Speaker 1: very carefully worded that Mac thinks he's going to be ready,
- 2:19Speaker 1: but we got to see how practice goes. We got
- 2:22Speaker 1: to see, you know, if he's able to clear. I mean,
- 2:25Speaker 1: I still don't know if the medical has cleared him yet.
- 2:28Speaker 1: But to me, this sounds like Max saying like, I'm
- 2:30Speaker 1: gonna be ready, so whatever the coaches or the doctors
- 2:33Speaker 1: are all that this. This seems to me like Max
- 2:36Speaker 1: saying I'm good to go. Okay, But I heard this
- 2:40Speaker 1: morning that the line has gone from like six and
- 2:44Speaker 1: a half to like eight because the wise guys think
- 2:48Speaker 1: that Mack is going to play, so they like Mac. Yeah. There,
- 2:52Speaker 1: it's getting bigger. Is that? Is that? Is that what
- 2:53Speaker 1: I'm I'm too infer Yeah, I didn't see. I just
- 2:56Speaker 1: saw seven and a half all week, Yeah, every day
- 2:59Speaker 1: right now it's nine now, so it's still rising. Yeah.
- 3:02Speaker 1: I also think it's interesting, in addition to the ESPN
- 3:05Speaker 1: report by Mike Greece that also the athletic is reporting
- 3:08Speaker 1: from their sources that there is no quarterback controversy and
- 3:12Speaker 1: that it's Max's job when he's ready to play. I
- 3:16Speaker 1: make sense to me. Yeah, you know, I won't Bill
- 3:18Speaker 1: just say it, though. I think there's some motivational on. So,
- 3:22Speaker 1: just out of curiosity, how do you think the athletic
- 3:25Speaker 1: can make a report like that? Um, I don't know
- 3:28Speaker 1: if Jeff, Yeah, he probably talked to some right, I
- 3:33Speaker 1: don't know. Do you think you talked to Bill not Bill? Yeah?
- 3:37Speaker 1: I agree. Yeah, not Bill before I ignore that because
- 3:40Speaker 1: I don't think you talked to Bill. Yeah, I doubt,
- 3:43Speaker 1: because he's the only one that can tell you if
- 3:45Speaker 1: there's any choice, right. Yeah. Do you think he told
- 3:49Speaker 1: Mike about Mac or do you think that was Mac
- 3:51Speaker 1: talking to Mike? Oh? Max condition is probably from Mac. Yeah,
- 3:56Speaker 1: that could be Max agent camp as camp that those
- 3:58Speaker 1: have been pretty consistent for three weeks now. He's I mean,
- 4:01Speaker 1: he's doing everything you can to get back else there champing, chomping,
- 4:05Speaker 1: it's a bit Yeah. Did you guys already go with
- 4:07Speaker 1: champing chomping? No? No, No, that's a good friend. I dipped,
- 4:10Speaker 1: I dipped a toe into it. I know it's a running,
- 4:12Speaker 1: a running. You're gonna smile and laugh at me now
- 4:14Speaker 1: after you blew me off. Thanks, Sorry, we forgot I
- 4:17Speaker 1: was talking to Tamara. We walked by Paul's office. We
- 4:18Speaker 1: forgot to pick him up today. So I'm sitting there
- 4:21Speaker 1: just talking to Matt, and all of a sudden, I
- 4:22Speaker 1: hear my phone. Let's Jesus twelve O one. I'm waiting
- 4:25Speaker 1: for the show. Let's do a little internal vote. Matt
- 4:28Speaker 1: plays or doesn't play? Place Place plays? Ask me practice
- 4:35Speaker 1: I'm asking you four pounds, right, Um, what we really
- 4:39Speaker 1: are you going to see him go out there? And
- 4:40Speaker 1: what you see him like limping a little bit? Say
- 4:43Speaker 1: though every time, I don't think that was dumb. I
- 4:45Speaker 1: agree with her. Yeah, I will say every time we've
- 4:47Speaker 1: gone to practice, he's moved a little bit more. Yeah,
- 4:50Speaker 1: Like I know today when we go out there, he
- 4:52Speaker 1: is going to move a little bit more. Right, Um,
- 4:55Speaker 1: if he can run play, but if he can't, Yeah, no,
- 4:58Speaker 1: I mean and based on the VI Mike, Yeah, no, seriously,
- 5:02Speaker 1: based on the videos because I know your answer and
- 5:04Speaker 1: don't lie to me. Do you think he was gonna
- 5:07Speaker 1: play last week? No? I know you didn't. So I
- 5:11Speaker 1: just walked, like arriving at the stadium, walking up the sideline,
- 5:14Speaker 1: I'm like, yeah, yeah, I think, Um, practice starts in
- 5:19Speaker 1: thirty minutes, so I think after that, yeah yeah, and
- 5:23Speaker 1: we'll get a full report from Evan when he comes back. Yeah,
- 5:26Speaker 1: he'll be in let's see, Uh they put mac on
- 5:28Speaker 1: display or if they they hide him more. I think
- 5:30Speaker 1: he's gonna play, But I'm basing that on absolutely nothing. Right, Yeah,
- 5:35Speaker 1: me too, Just I mean more that, I mean, I
- 5:36Speaker 1: think he how long has it been say, you know
- 5:42Speaker 1: about what they said, right, Yeah, I'll see. Like the
- 5:45Speaker 1: first practice we saw him like it was like upper
- 5:47Speaker 1: body movement only nothing else. Oh yeah, and then next
- 5:50Speaker 1: week it was like small steps, and the next week
- 5:54Speaker 1: it was like, okay, a little bit of hit movement,
- 5:57Speaker 1: like move dropping back, Yeah, a little bit. Um. So
- 5:59Speaker 1: I'm today, Yeah, he's just like what I'm with you
- 6:03Speaker 1: day by day. But I'm with you. I mean, if
- 6:05Speaker 1: I'm Bill Belichick, I have to see him running around,
- 6:09Speaker 1: being able to pivot, being able to avoid pressure. He's
- 6:12Speaker 1: got to protect him something, right, otherwise he's a sitting duck.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Yeah right, I agree. You know, like if I'm the Bears,
- 6:19Speaker 1: I'm like, have you gotten any random texts from anybody
- 6:23Speaker 1: that told you so you could just go with that?
- 6:25Speaker 1: I haven't gotten any dms? Yeah, DM from account I've
- 6:28Speaker 1: never seen before tells me it's true. I'm gonna go
- 6:30Speaker 1: with it. I got to go with it, right. It's hilarious. Also,
- 6:33Speaker 1: are we continuing the little thing created by Paul my Pole? Yeah?
- 6:38Speaker 1: My little pole? Oh I don't think we need to
- 6:40Speaker 1: do that. Yeah, I got it. It's actually been funny.
- 6:43Speaker 1: People were tweeting at us like I've got my vote
- 6:46Speaker 1: in for Paul's pole. I was like, all right, I
- 6:48Speaker 1: mean if some I talked about up my little pole
- 6:50Speaker 1: yesterday on Foul Green Masks, well, I know, and yeah,
- 6:53Speaker 1: but if if they want to, if people want to
- 6:55Speaker 1: add to that, that's fine. I love the pole, you know.
- 6:57Speaker 1: And I also I espouse my emailer versus caller theory
- 7:02Speaker 1: and jumped right in. Interesting, what was it? He goes, Oh,
- 7:05Speaker 1: he goes, the writers are most sereble like, oh, exactly. Well.
- 7:09Speaker 1: I was talking to No Socks this morning and he
- 7:11Speaker 1: said he was listening to Paul's show yesterday, and you
- 7:14Speaker 1: know that show it's all zappy interesting, and this show
- 7:18Speaker 1: it's you know, the callers. The callers are all zappy. Yeah, absolutely,
- 7:22Speaker 1: that's that's that's after Birds of a Feather. You know
- 7:26Speaker 1: a lot of people are attracted to that show because
- 7:28Speaker 1: of the negativity. They like it. It's fun, you know.
- 7:31Speaker 1: They they're you know, I'm not saying everybody I listened
- 7:34Speaker 1: to people are like excited about Zappy. Doesn't it wasn't negative?
- 7:37Speaker 1: Oh I know, no, but they're they're negative against Mac.
- 7:40Speaker 1: They are you know, yeah, but I think they're really
- 7:43Speaker 1: excited about Zach. I mean I think that next year
- 7:45Speaker 1: at this time they could be excited about some other guy.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Like I just think they liked the new thing. Well, yeah,
- 7:50Speaker 1: but I don't think it's a negative. I didn't. I
- 7:52Speaker 1: didn't really see much negativity yesterday. I saw like a
- 7:54Speaker 1: lot of excitement about like this guy can do things.
- 7:57Speaker 1: It's just you can just see it. He's got it,
- 8:00Speaker 1: you know, like that kind of stuff. Do you think though,
- 8:02Speaker 1: that people of those ilk see this as an opportunity
- 8:05Speaker 1: to start to drive a wedge between Mac and Belichick
- 8:08Speaker 1: and the Patriots and the fans? Oh? You know sure?
- 8:11Speaker 1: Like you think people in the media want to drive
- 8:13Speaker 1: a wedge between what would they care? The callers, the
- 8:15Speaker 1: ones that hate Belichick? Why would you care? Because drama,
- 8:19Speaker 1: drama moose the needle, right, Like I think it's you know, yeah,
- 8:23Speaker 1: more stories to go. But but if you're not gonna
- 8:25Speaker 1: get any more drama, then Bailey's appy taking the quarterback
- 8:28Speaker 1: job away from Mac Jones. If you want drama, oh yeah,
- 8:31Speaker 1: you want needle moving, that's it. But this ain't going away.
- 8:33Speaker 1: There's a reason why the Patriots game last week was
- 8:36Speaker 1: the highest rated game they've had this year. That's it
- 8:39Speaker 1: on a clock, that's it. Yeah. But I feel like
- 8:42Speaker 1: going forward, all these things that we've heard are going
- 8:45Speaker 1: to be fact now, and it's gonna be well, you know,
- 8:48Speaker 1: Patriots and like how Mac handled that, and and that's lingered,
- 8:52Speaker 1: you know, even though we're here in December and Mac
- 8:54Speaker 1: had a two interception game? So is it time to
- 8:57Speaker 1: go back to Bailey's Appy? You know? I think so
- 9:00Speaker 1: that's what we're gonna So if do you think if
- 9:02Speaker 1: Mac goes out and throws with three hundred and nine
- 9:04Speaker 1: yards and three touchdowns, are you gonna hear that? Nope?
- 9:06Speaker 1: Not after that game? So do you think if he
- 9:09Speaker 1: doesn't play well that it's like unfair that he hears that? No?
- 9:13Speaker 1: But I think people are gonna be all too willing
- 9:15Speaker 1: to jump onto it. I mean I think there could
- 9:17Speaker 1: It would take one game to be like all right,
- 9:19Speaker 1: should they go back to Zappy now? Like, I don't
- 9:21Speaker 1: think anybody thinks that Max. So that's what I'm asking.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Is that unfair? Uh? Maybe a little bit, Maybe a
- 9:26Speaker 1: little bit. I don't think if Matt goes out and
- 9:30Speaker 1: plays poorly, it's not unfair. It's it's like it's not unfair.
- 9:34Speaker 1: I guess that's the question. That's that's my point. Has
- 9:37Speaker 1: he earned any benefit of the doubt? Like if he
- 9:38Speaker 1: because he's probably gonna have a bad game. So do
- 9:40Speaker 1: you think if he has If he doesn't, why why
- 9:42Speaker 1: do you say that? Why would he probably have a
- 9:44Speaker 1: bad game? You don't think Max gonna have a bad games? Yeah?
- 9:49Speaker 1: That's that was edgy. Like I'm talking about the Bears.
- 9:52Speaker 1: I don't say you had to play a great game
- 9:54Speaker 1: every single game he plays. No, I mean, I'm just
- 9:56Speaker 1: saying going forward, like this isn't going away, like this
- 9:59Speaker 1: is bailey zapp. He's gonna hang over Max if Mac.
- 10:02Speaker 1: If Mac Jones plays well for say like the next
- 10:05Speaker 1: three four or five games and has a bad game,
- 10:07Speaker 1: people aren't going to be calling for Bailey's app. I
- 10:08Speaker 1: hope you're right. Some might you people don't take my No.
- 10:13Speaker 1: One for like zero Paul. If he comes out and
- 10:16Speaker 1: he plays rusty against the Bears, it's like you're gonna
- 10:19Speaker 1: get Bailey's appy. Yeah yeah, but but it's like people
- 10:22Speaker 1: might hear say bailey' zappy, give him, give him back
- 10:25Speaker 1: the opportunity, or you could be like okay, like first
- 10:27Speaker 1: game back Rusty, but then if he comes out against
- 10:29Speaker 1: the Jets and does the same thing, then it's like, okay,
- 10:31Speaker 1: people are gonna be definitely. But if he plays okay
- 10:33Speaker 1: against the Bears and then plays even better against the Jets,
- 10:37Speaker 1: and then he plays okay against the Colts and then
- 10:39Speaker 1: all of a sudden he has a bad game, people
- 10:41Speaker 1: aren't going to be There's not gonna be a human
- 10:43Speaker 1: cry get him out of there. He stinks. But if
- 10:46Speaker 1: he has a bad game right away in contrast to
- 10:49Speaker 1: the good games that Zappi has had, yeah he's gonna
- 10:52Speaker 1: hear something he should. Yeah, I just I guess I want.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Where I'm at right now is how much good faith
- 10:57Speaker 1: has Mac earned at this point? Like you know, I mean,
- 10:59Speaker 1: I think any NFL quarterback going forward, there's going to
- 11:02Speaker 1: be a bad game in there. Probably that doesn't mean
- 11:04Speaker 1: that you're going to call for the starter's head because
- 11:05Speaker 1: he had one bad game. But I think going forward,
- 11:08Speaker 1: this is this is now a thing like people will
- 11:11Speaker 1: people will let me ask you this. If Dak Prescott
- 11:17Speaker 1: plays a couple of really bad games, you don't think
- 11:19Speaker 1: people and Dallas are gonna be talking about Cooper Rush.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Oh sure, yeah, why would I how much more latitude
- 11:25Speaker 1: should Dak Prescott I earned at this stage than Mac
- 11:28Speaker 1: Jones more so, that's like it's par for the course.
- 11:31Speaker 1: When the starter misses time and the guy who replaces
- 11:34Speaker 1: him comes in and plays well, and the starter returns
- 11:37Speaker 1: and doesn't play well, that's not unfair. No, And I'm
- 11:41Speaker 1: not trying to make the point that like Mac should
- 11:43Speaker 1: not get criticism if he doesn't play bad. I just
- 11:46Speaker 1: think that, knowing how this town works with sports radio,
- 11:49Speaker 1: the Bailey's appy thing, it's right in the back pocket now,
- 11:52Speaker 1: and it's they're ready to go whenever, and whether or
- 11:55Speaker 1: not Mac like plays great against great defenses or you know,
- 11:58Speaker 1: whatever the context is. Any shakingness, I'll say something. I'll
- 12:02Speaker 1: repeat something I said I think last year about this show.
- 12:06Speaker 1: It's very important for us to look at this fairly
- 12:11Speaker 1: and talk about it fairly, because this isn't with Tom Brady,
- 12:16Speaker 1: where you know, you knew what was going to happen.
- 12:19Speaker 1: I think fans really need objective criticism or praise, and
- 12:26Speaker 1: fair objective criticism, you know, fair praise or criticism. You know,
- 12:31Speaker 1: it's it's really on us to do that. It's it's
- 12:34Speaker 1: we shouldn't be taking sides here. You know, um, we
- 12:37Speaker 1: should call it like we see it. Well, It's like
- 12:40Speaker 1: we were talking yesterday a little bit and this was
- 12:44Speaker 1: like during a break and Tony was like looking at
- 12:46Speaker 1: Max like last stretch of games when he hasn't like
- 12:50Speaker 1: He's like, yeah, he's got you know, seven touchdowns and
- 12:54Speaker 1: I mean seven interceptions in his last like whatever many games.
- 12:57Speaker 1: And I go, Tony, he's played twenty one games in
- 12:59Speaker 1: a career when he's thrown twenty interceptions. I said, don't, like,
- 13:03Speaker 1: you don't need like a starting off point. You don't
- 13:05Speaker 1: need to eliminate the good games and only focus on
- 13:07Speaker 1: the bad games. Just use all of the games. He's
- 13:11Speaker 1: played twenty one games, he's eleven and ten and has
- 13:14Speaker 1: twenty interceptions. That's not like clouding it to your point, Fred, like,
- 13:19Speaker 1: that's just kind of using the facts, you know, as
- 13:23Speaker 1: a basic And he was like stunned. He's like, I
- 13:24Speaker 1: had no idea he threw that many. I said, because
- 13:27Speaker 1: we spent the whole year convincing everybody how wrong anybody
- 13:31Speaker 1: was to question anything Mac Jones did. Now on this show,
- 13:36Speaker 1: I think we looked at the good in the bad.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Mike and I had Mac Jones on our good list
- 13:40Speaker 1: after a lot of games. We had him on the
- 13:42Speaker 1: bad list after some games too. We cut some heat
- 13:45Speaker 1: on some of those games because he's a rookie, you know.
- 13:48Speaker 1: But that's what it is, like. You have to the
- 13:51Speaker 1: way you just describe that, Fred, I think is exactly
- 13:53Speaker 1: what you have to do. You can't just ignore when
- 13:57Speaker 1: something doesn't go right. And you also can't just ignore
- 14:00Speaker 1: when Bailey Zappy played well. Sure, you can't just dismiss
- 14:03Speaker 1: that and say it was easy. It was against a
- 14:05Speaker 1: bad team, Yeah it was, and most of the good
- 14:08Speaker 1: games that Mac had last year were against similarly bad teams.
- 14:12Speaker 1: We have to look at the best interests of the
- 14:14Speaker 1: team now. But I'm serious, we you know. It's I
- 14:19Speaker 1: think like we need to be like that safe place
- 14:22Speaker 1: where you can get honest opinions and not agenda filled opinions.
- 14:28Speaker 1: You know. Yeah, well, I think this connects back to
- 14:30Speaker 1: what your kind of philosophy was last season, where remember
- 14:33Speaker 1: you were saying, we really need to analyze Mac and
- 14:36Speaker 1: be fair and really break down what he's doing well
- 14:38Speaker 1: and what he isn't. And I think that's the same
- 14:41Speaker 1: the same point you have to continue, you know, to
- 14:43Speaker 1: be fair. I just I guess right now, where I'm
- 14:45Speaker 1: wondering as like, is there a level that Matt can
- 14:47Speaker 1: hit where people just say, ah, right, he's he's the
- 14:49Speaker 1: guy's appy, he did well. Felger thinks that Mac Jones
- 14:53Speaker 1: is better than Bailey Zappy. He thinks his skill set
- 14:56Speaker 1: is better. He thinks it's not like a blowout, but
- 14:58Speaker 1: he thinks it's better, whereas Pony and Jim Murray are like,
- 15:02Speaker 1: you know, I don't know. I think Zappy has played
- 15:04Speaker 1: better than what I saw Mac play, So like there's
- 15:06Speaker 1: a difference of opinion there and where I will agree
- 15:08Speaker 1: with you a little bit with the the talk radio nonsense,
- 15:12Speaker 1: which I call it nonsense, but you guys know, I
- 15:14Speaker 1: love it. I love for conflict. I love That's where
- 15:17Speaker 1: I'm searching out the okay, the point of conflict. But
- 15:19Speaker 1: I enjoy I enjoy the debate. I enjoy the snark.
- 15:23Speaker 1: It's not to be taken literally, like that's why what
- 15:25Speaker 1: Bolan did in all seriousness is wrong. Like you can't
- 15:28Speaker 1: just make stuff up, so that's what makes it, you know,
- 15:31Speaker 1: that's what makes it bad or just repeat whatever you hear,
- 15:34Speaker 1: you know, you know, yeah, um, But where I think,
- 15:38Speaker 1: like if you ask a lot of talk radio guys,
- 15:41Speaker 1: they'll say what's best for the show. They want to happen.
- 15:44Speaker 1: It's not like they want to drive. It's like, so,
- 15:46Speaker 1: it's not necessarily we're going to drive a wedge between
- 15:48Speaker 1: Mac and Zappy. But the better thing for this show
- 15:52Speaker 1: would be if Zappy takes this job from Mac, because
- 15:55Speaker 1: it's way more drama, it's way more needle moving. To
- 15:58Speaker 1: use you a phrase like so like do you root
- 16:01Speaker 1: for that? Yeah? I think I think that if like
- 16:03Speaker 1: you're Mike and Tony, you're probably rooting for something that
- 16:06Speaker 1: that will generate the most attention to this show. What
- 16:09Speaker 1: they should be rooting for is the Patriots to win
- 16:11Speaker 1: every game. And that's who, I will tell you, with
- 16:15Speaker 1: absolute uncertain like absolute locke, Mike Felgo roots him to
- 16:21Speaker 1: win every game because he is so concerned if the
- 16:24Speaker 1: teams do not have success that people will stop listening.
- 16:27Speaker 1: He should, I'm telling you, that's all that's it's ever
- 16:29Speaker 1: on his mind. People would be stunted to hear that
- 16:31Speaker 1: how much he wants the teams to win. I mean it,
- 16:34Speaker 1: he's smart. You know, in this town, we don't have
- 16:39Speaker 1: the patience for mediocrity. You know, or you know, worse
- 16:44Speaker 1: than that, losing losing teams. Look at the ratings for
- 16:46Speaker 1: the Red Sox, you know, and you could say, well, baseball, No,
- 16:50Speaker 1: Boston's still a baseball town. Red Sox have been sort
- 16:53Speaker 1: of the rating stunt. Last year they went to the end,
- 16:55Speaker 1: they well they weren't that bad as this year. Well
- 16:59Speaker 1: not as bad this year, but they were bad. Yeah,
- 17:01Speaker 1: you know, but overall, like in terms of baseball, we
- 17:06Speaker 1: do pretty good. In terms of attendance at Fenway Park,
- 17:08Speaker 1: we do pretty good compared to the other We're still,
- 17:11Speaker 1: you know, not a football's number one, but we're still
- 17:14Speaker 1: a good baseball town. But there no one's no one's
- 17:18Speaker 1: you know, immune to uh fans disinterest. Yeah, so back
- 17:23Speaker 1: to the fair conversation. I also think too, like when
- 17:26Speaker 1: you're looking at the offense that Mac was was asked
- 17:31Speaker 1: to play with, you know a lot of deep balls
- 17:33Speaker 1: down the field. Bailey Zappy wasn't doing that. And so
- 17:35Speaker 1: I think too of playing fair and like comparing like
- 17:38Speaker 1: how Mac played started the season and with how bailey'
- 17:41Speaker 1: z appy played, you know, in the games that he
- 17:43Speaker 1: was out there too, I think you also still have
- 17:44Speaker 1: to look at that not just the opponent, but the
- 17:46Speaker 1: offense that was installed per quarterback absolutely, Evan did. Like
- 17:50Speaker 1: I said, Evan did a piece earlier this week, you know,
- 17:53Speaker 1: showing the numbers of the differences in the offenses. That's
- 17:56Speaker 1: why it's going to be really important for us to
- 17:58Speaker 1: watch the game Monday night and make that evaluation. What
- 18:02Speaker 1: kind of offense are they running? Are they doing what
- 18:04Speaker 1: Zappy did? Yeah? And then if it and if they
- 18:07Speaker 1: are in Max's not doing well, then it's fair to say, well,
- 18:09Speaker 1: Zappy did it better. Yeah. And someone actually asked Bill
- 18:13Speaker 1: that yesterday, saying like, do you have to draft up
- 18:15Speaker 1: two different game plans depending on who starts? Do you
- 18:18Speaker 1: have to tweak one for Billy Zappy versus for Mac Jones?
- 18:21Speaker 1: And of course that question really wasn't answered, but it
- 18:25Speaker 1: makes you wonder like, are they gonna if Matt starts
- 18:28Speaker 1: on Monday night, are they going to go back to
- 18:29Speaker 1: what they were installed with him before or are they
- 18:31Speaker 1: going to do a hybrid of a mix of that,
- 18:33Speaker 1: a mix of Zappy or are they gonna give him
- 18:35Speaker 1: what Zappy was doing? Yeah? I thought in Mike's roundtable
- 18:38Speaker 1: questions that he sent email to us today, I thought
- 18:40Speaker 1: he had a really good one. It's like, how are
- 18:42Speaker 1: your expectations, How are your expectations different if Mac plays
- 18:47Speaker 1: for a Sappy. Yeah, I think that was a good
- 18:49Speaker 1: question because mine aren't different. Yeah, I have to admit
- 18:52Speaker 1: my bar for Mac is higher. I expect him to
- 18:55Speaker 1: be a playmaker. That's good then, because we have different answers. Yeah,
- 18:59Speaker 1: it's the same. Yeah, expect I expect Mac to to
- 19:04Speaker 1: in and of himself to make plays, where I expect
- 19:07Speaker 1: Zappy to just play within the guardrails not make mistakes.
- 19:11Speaker 1: You know, so you want Zappy to still have his
- 19:13Speaker 1: training wheels on. Um, Well, as we get further along,
- 19:17Speaker 1: I think we take them all. But yes, right now, yes,
- 19:20Speaker 1: I think so. I wrote two different things for both
- 19:23Speaker 1: of them too. For Mac, I don't want him to
- 19:25Speaker 1: come in and think that he has to play hero
- 19:27Speaker 1: Ball and just like completely show why he's so much better,
- 19:30Speaker 1: because if he does that, he's going to make a
- 19:31Speaker 1: ton of mistakes. So I want him to come back
- 19:34Speaker 1: and have a good game, but not be the focus
- 19:37Speaker 1: of like, let me go out here and show them
- 19:39Speaker 1: why I'm this far ahead than Bailey Zappy. I don't
- 19:42Speaker 1: want that. Yeah, I think it's a great point to Marry,
- 19:44Speaker 1: and I like, and I'm the place I'm at. I'm
- 19:45Speaker 1: in a similar place to Paul. I don't think it's
- 19:47Speaker 1: all that different. I mean, I just think for Zappy,
- 19:48Speaker 1: it's don't screw things up to what you've been doing.
- 19:50Speaker 1: This is a team that we should beat. And the
- 19:52Speaker 1: same thing with Mac, like you've been hurt, don't try
- 19:54Speaker 1: to do too much just yet and run the ball,
- 19:56Speaker 1: try it over. But let's look at this from the
- 19:58Speaker 1: Bears perspective. Okay, if you're you know, figuring out what
- 20:02Speaker 1: to do against the Patron's offense going into this game,
- 20:05Speaker 1: you know, I would be like, they ain't doing that
- 20:09Speaker 1: fundamental stuff with us, you know, if they you know,
- 20:12Speaker 1: and maybe they won't be successful, but you know, like
- 20:15Speaker 1: the testosterone. If they try that, you know, football one
- 20:19Speaker 1: on one stuff against us, we're gonna I don't do it.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Do you think they ran football one on one stuff
- 20:23Speaker 1: against Cleveland? I don't think it was as complex as
- 20:26Speaker 1: what Mac was doing. No. I felt like I feel
- 20:29Speaker 1: like they did more than they did with Zappy in
- 20:31Speaker 1: the Lions game. Me too, Yeah, by a lot. I
- 20:33Speaker 1: A yeah, you know, it's a funny thing that I'm
- 20:36Speaker 1: noticing some of the conversations I have with people who
- 20:38Speaker 1: you know, are just general fans, are you know, saying that,
- 20:41Speaker 1: like it just felt like a Patriots offense to me,
- 20:44Speaker 1: Like I can't remember like saying this about the Cleveland game,
- 20:47Speaker 1: and I feel so tied up in it. I can't
- 20:50Speaker 1: really say for sure how if I agree with that
- 20:52Speaker 1: or not. But I don't know. This is something interesting,
- 20:55Speaker 1: Like I think a lot of people that watch Zappy
- 20:56Speaker 1: just felt like a feeling of familiarity around the Patriots
- 21:00Speaker 1: off for whatever reason. I'm not sure exactly why. Maybe
- 21:03Speaker 1: it was just the you know, some of the continued
- 21:05Speaker 1: execution stuff. But I think it's an interesting point. Does
- 21:08Speaker 1: Matt come out try to prove a point? Is he
- 21:10Speaker 1: pushing the ball down the field and you have to
- 21:11Speaker 1: worry about that, you know? I think that's that's what
- 21:14Speaker 1: point a great point. Don't over don't overthink and what
- 21:17Speaker 1: you're telling about mac of oh, he's been ready to play,
- 21:20Speaker 1: he's ready to play, he's champing at the bit, you know,
- 21:23Speaker 1: all that stuff like, but that that's the that's the
- 21:26Speaker 1: mark of somebody who might come in and be like,
- 21:28Speaker 1: regardless of who the Patriot quarterback is, if I expect
- 21:31Speaker 1: the Bears to throw the kitchen sync at him, whoever
- 21:34Speaker 1: the quarterback is, and whoever the quarterback is is going
- 21:37Speaker 1: to have to figure that out. Yeah. You know, one
- 21:39Speaker 1: more thing too, I thought, Paul was remember remember when
- 21:41Speaker 1: we got into mini camp and they were just like wow,
- 21:43Speaker 1: there really throwing the ball down the field the trade
- 21:45Speaker 1: Nixon a lot. And I remember you being like that
- 21:48Speaker 1: seemed like they're kind of doing this on purpose to
- 21:50Speaker 1: be like, see we can do this, And like I
- 21:52Speaker 1: wonder if that's a kid like, don't make it a
- 21:54Speaker 1: continuation against the Bears this weekend of like oh you guys,
- 21:58Speaker 1: Bailey Zappy was good. Way do you see these ball
- 22:00Speaker 1: start dropping and just starting you know, chucking them down today?
- 22:02Speaker 1: And I didn't take you like when you asked the question.
- 22:05Speaker 1: I didn't take it like how do I expect the
- 22:07Speaker 1: two quarterbacks to play? Like how how well they play? Yeah? No, no,
- 22:11Speaker 1: just what I took it as like what would the
- 22:13Speaker 1: game plan be? And I took it as like like
- 22:16Speaker 1: a continuation of what they've been doing. You know, they're
- 22:19Speaker 1: gonna run the ball, They're gonna you know, take the
- 22:21Speaker 1: shots with play action, protect the ball, get the lead.
- 22:25Speaker 1: That's the formula for But but here's the thing. I like,
- 22:28Speaker 1: I said, my bar from Mac is higher. He was
- 22:30Speaker 1: a first round draft pick. I don't care if he
- 22:32Speaker 1: was the fifth quarterback. Take it should be higher. It
- 22:34Speaker 1: should for a full year longer. I expect more out
- 22:39Speaker 1: of him than I do Zappy at this point. Yeah,
- 22:41Speaker 1: but I'm not necessarily. I don't think that question was
- 22:43Speaker 1: like who do you think we'll play better run Sunday?
- 22:45Speaker 1: It's like what do you expected? What do expectations? Yeah? Yeah,
- 22:49Speaker 1: I like that. I want, if it's Bailey Zappy, them
- 22:52Speaker 1: to continue to add on what they did against the Browns,
- 22:55Speaker 1: Like I felt like they were opening up the playbook
- 22:57Speaker 1: a little bit more, doing more with the offense with
- 23:00Speaker 1: him than they did in the Lions game obviously, So
- 23:02Speaker 1: if it's him, I want more of that. So like,
- 23:04Speaker 1: in other words, if the game plan was exactly the
- 23:06Speaker 1: same against Cleveland as it was and Mac played to
- 23:09Speaker 1: you a point, Fred, you'd expect to have done better
- 23:11Speaker 1: than Oh yeah, yes, yeah absolutely, But that's that's fine.
- 23:14Speaker 1: I didn't. I mean, I'm not telling you like that
- 23:16Speaker 1: you took the question wrong. I'm just telling you I
- 23:18Speaker 1: took it different yeah. I took it as how would
- 23:20Speaker 1: I go about playing based on yeah, the quarterbacks, and
- 23:24Speaker 1: I don't think anything will change. I took it a
- 23:26Speaker 1: little differently. Yeah, all right, well you know that's as
- 23:30Speaker 1: many that's what makes it good, as different as many
- 23:34Speaker 1: as many plays as Zappy made, I would expect Mac
- 23:36Speaker 1: to make more plays. Yes, I think that's I think
- 23:39Speaker 1: that's fair. Yeah. Maybe Mac gets in has a quiet start.
- 23:42Speaker 1: I mean quiet in a good way, not like he
- 23:43Speaker 1: doesn't do much, but just takes what's there, doesn't pick
- 23:47Speaker 1: on like the first series. I oh like right too,
- 23:53Speaker 1: And in that respect it's a good thing. This is
- 23:56Speaker 1: in a way game Oh yeah, you know, because they
- 23:59Speaker 1: would they would, yeah, start they would here, they would.
- 24:03Speaker 1: They did it with Brady, They'll do it with Matt. Wait, wait,
- 24:06Speaker 1: what isn't the game here? You know what? This is
- 24:11Speaker 1: gonna be a top That's why I like the whole,
- 24:16Speaker 1: I think, and I know most people go the other way.
- 24:18Speaker 1: They like you know, the Chicago games are soft landing.
- 24:21Speaker 1: We talked about the yesterday. Yeah, Chicago's you know, they're
- 24:24Speaker 1: not they're not very good. You get him out there,
- 24:26Speaker 1: you get to win under his belt, and then you
- 24:27Speaker 1: go to the Jets, who may or may not be better.
- 24:30Speaker 1: I'm still very skeptical you guys on board, um, and
- 24:36Speaker 1: I'm like, I think if I was like just Joe
- 24:40Speaker 1: mac Jones fan, like I'm ra Ra, I kind of
- 24:43Speaker 1: would like him just to come back on the road.
- 24:45Speaker 1: That's yeah, because I think this is the inherent pressure
- 24:47Speaker 1: of if something goes wrong, you got to hear it
- 24:49Speaker 1: from your own fans, and they will. If he goes
- 24:52Speaker 1: out and throws a pick on the first drive, I
- 24:56Speaker 1: don't anticipate that happening now, Justin Fields doing that, that's
- 25:00Speaker 1: very possible. Yeah, that's very possible. Well, I'll just be
- 25:03Speaker 1: happy to see Justin Field's allowed to drop back and
- 25:05Speaker 1: throw it like so I just I just launched the
- 25:09Speaker 1: ball with my arms and someone will catch it. You know.
- 25:11Speaker 1: I'm gonna go against something I've said before, Like I've
- 25:14Speaker 1: always said, like when it comes to Patriots, I want
- 25:16Speaker 1: them to blow out every opponent, you know, and it
- 25:19Speaker 1: would be nice if they got an early lead. You're
- 25:21Speaker 1: gonna get what you wish. Yeah, this week, it'd be
- 25:23Speaker 1: nice if they can get early lead. And it's not
- 25:25Speaker 1: even a game where Mac has to win it, right,
- 25:27Speaker 1: you know, maybe measure he tosses one late. But there's
- 25:30Speaker 1: a part of me, there's a part of me in
- 25:32Speaker 1: this game. I'd like Mac to have to do something
- 25:36Speaker 1: to just interesting, to just show that he can. That's
- 25:40Speaker 1: back to the Mac. The main Mac narrative. I feel
- 25:42Speaker 1: of of, Okay, we know you're pretty good against the
- 25:44Speaker 1: teams that are maybe overmatched or equal, but yeah, something
- 25:48Speaker 1: something outside the box. I don't this week. Just let's
- 25:50Speaker 1: see like the Bears getting like Khalil Herbert has like
- 25:55Speaker 1: a fifty yard run on the first series and it
- 25:57Speaker 1: sets up a field goal. They're down three nothing, and
- 25:58Speaker 1: then Patriots win, like, you know, thirty eight to three.
- 26:02Speaker 1: I thought he couldn't play it from behind, you know,
- 26:05Speaker 1: like one of those deals. I think you're more likely
- 26:08Speaker 1: to get one of those scenarios red maybe against the
- 26:10Speaker 1: Jets or like, okay, maybe Zach Wilson has the Jets
- 26:14Speaker 1: up five interceptions like last time, ye say they're up
- 26:18Speaker 1: twenty one fourteen and to complete five passes. Though, say
- 26:22Speaker 1: the Jets are up twenty one fourteen and the fourth
- 26:24Speaker 1: and then Mac Jones has to go out and I
- 26:27Speaker 1: love it. I love twice. Yeah, I would love it.
- 26:29Speaker 1: I mean I said, I would love him to succeed
- 26:31Speaker 1: in that. I don't think you would love it as
- 26:33Speaker 1: it was happening, and oh yeah, I'd be going crazy,
- 26:38Speaker 1: but just to get it out of the way, you know,
- 26:41Speaker 1: to get it out of the way. Some comeback wins.
- 26:43Speaker 1: But I mean, if you're gonna get a comeback win,
- 26:44Speaker 1: you gotta be down right, you have to have to
- 26:46Speaker 1: stare that downa We always got that, whereas got Houston
- 26:50Speaker 1: for the Chargers game. Wasn't that like down to the wire? Ish? Yeah?
- 26:53Speaker 1: They were losing in the fourth quarter of that game,
- 26:55Speaker 1: and then Herbert threw the pick yeah, which you know
- 26:59Speaker 1: that was a pick six that So let's say the Patriots, dude,
- 27:04Speaker 1: just plaster the Bears. Will Paul's people be saying, oh,
- 27:09Speaker 1: that's not fair. You know, Mac didn't even have to play.
- 27:12Speaker 1: I still think better you will you will hear something, Yeah,
- 27:16Speaker 1: you absolutely will. Yeah, I think you will hear some
- 27:18Speaker 1: of that just because of statistically how bad the Bears are.
- 27:22Speaker 1: Unless you are, you know, on Bill's side and have
- 27:26Speaker 1: a thousand great things to say about the Bears, then right,
- 27:29Speaker 1: you might have a different perspective afterwards. So it's funny
- 27:32Speaker 1: you talked about that the opening Diet Tribe about the Bears. Um, Andy, Well,
- 27:38Speaker 1: I'm going to do the podcast with Andy, the Six
- 27:40Speaker 1: Rings podcast for him after our show, and he told
- 27:44Speaker 1: me they had a Chicago guy on half the guys
- 27:48Speaker 1: that Bill was talking about. The guy didn't even wasn't
- 27:50Speaker 1: even really like like I'm not even really aware of him,
- 27:53Speaker 1: Like he's like some of the guys, like the special
- 27:55Speaker 1: Team guy, the guy from Chicago who covers Bears, like
- 28:01Speaker 1: he's not really on the radar. It left me scrambling
- 28:03Speaker 1: because I was writing the tend to Watch thing and
- 28:05Speaker 1: I kind of had had finished it up, and then
- 28:07Speaker 1: I heard Bill's thing, and I was like, special teams,
- 28:10Speaker 1: I know what. You know how you always like to
- 28:11Speaker 1: read into things Fred when Bill talks and it's like
- 28:14Speaker 1: he never said that, Dan Campbell, you know that you
- 28:16Speaker 1: never said Detroit's well coached, right, So you know that
- 28:20Speaker 1: the longer he goes with a bad team like that,
- 28:24Speaker 1: the more confident you should be that you're going to
- 28:26Speaker 1: get an absolute ass kicking. This is how we talked
- 28:31Speaker 1: about the old for Cleveland Browns being explosive with the
- 28:33Speaker 1: ability to score from anywhere on the field, like he
- 28:36Speaker 1: went on for days and days about how productive their
- 28:40Speaker 1: offense is and they're like the lowest scoring offense in football.
- 28:43Speaker 1: Like when he does that, you know that he's looking
- 28:48Speaker 1: at that and it's like, oh, man, I just gotta
- 28:50Speaker 1: come out and just throw stuff out there because this
- 28:52Speaker 1: team can't do anything. Yeah, well, oh it's gonna be
- 28:57Speaker 1: interesting Monday night. Pat, it's bears. I said, this is
- 29:02Speaker 1: my my like the last uninteresting game to me, not
- 29:05Speaker 1: that any game is uninteresting interesting, he says, But but
- 29:09Speaker 1: you're right. I mean for that, but as far as
- 29:11Speaker 1: like the interest, this is the last opponent that there's
- 29:14Speaker 1: really nothing for me to glump. I know the Jets
- 29:16Speaker 1: are the Jets, but the Jets are a divisional rival,
- 29:18Speaker 1: and I think that that's a really big game. Um,
- 29:20Speaker 1: but otherwise I don't care who they're playing. It's our
- 29:23Speaker 1: quarterback situation makes it interesting. That's the that'll that'll carry us.
- 29:27Speaker 1: That's That's what I'm talking about. So you've fallen into it.
- 29:29Speaker 1: You're going to be completely reactionary based on one game.
- 29:32Speaker 1: You're you're the guy that Mike has made. I'm gonna
- 29:35Speaker 1: go into it really nervous because I want Mac to
- 29:37Speaker 1: play well. Yeah, oh, I know, you know w well,
- 29:41Speaker 1: like I, I don't have a dog in the fire.
- 29:43Speaker 1: He doesn't. I think the other guy's playing great, so
- 29:45Speaker 1: I like, I know, and that's and that's really it
- 29:49Speaker 1: doesn't matter to me at all if Bailey's Appy ends
- 29:51Speaker 1: up being the guy or Mac Jones ends up being
- 29:53Speaker 1: the guy. And that's like like saying, like Drew and
- 29:54Speaker 1: Brady for me, like I had, like I liked Drew,
- 29:57Speaker 1: I like I had a stake in that one. It's
- 29:59Speaker 1: not like I'm like this big Mac guy. It's just
- 30:02Speaker 1: like I want our first round pick to be our quarterback.
- 30:05Speaker 1: I don't want to have wasted that pick. But if
- 30:07Speaker 1: if Bailey Zappi is better, what do you care? What
- 30:10Speaker 1: do you think his ceiling is. I don't think it's
- 30:13Speaker 1: much different than Max. I really don't. So you don't
- 30:15Speaker 1: think that that's fine? So you don't care. But I'm
- 30:18Speaker 1: just saying, forget about what you think of a person.
- 30:21Speaker 1: What difference does it make if this guy ends up
- 30:23Speaker 1: being better? I hear him on just the draft pick thing.
- 30:26Speaker 1: I mean, that's you know that, that's a little bit
- 30:28Speaker 1: of frustration, But I'm with you. Otherwise, I get it.
- 30:30Speaker 1: I get it. But but isn't the goal to make
- 30:32Speaker 1: sure you have a really good quarterback? Right? So whichever
- 30:35Speaker 1: guy is really good, what difference is it? Well that's
- 30:38Speaker 1: the key. Yeah. No, I'm not saying that one guy
- 30:41Speaker 1: stakes and the other guy stinks worse. I'm saying one
- 30:43Speaker 1: of them is really good. But well, that's right. If
- 30:45Speaker 1: Zappy ends up being like really good, I'd be like, wow,
- 30:48Speaker 1: they found another diamond. That's great. If you're asking me
- 30:51Speaker 1: my opinion, I agree with you, right. I don't think
- 30:53Speaker 1: that he's as good as Mac Jones, you know. So
- 30:55Speaker 1: it's just you know, I never expect it's you know,
- 30:59Speaker 1: we don't realize. But this is NFL reality, you know,
- 31:02Speaker 1: like most teams don't just go from one great quarterback
- 31:06Speaker 1: to another. Most teams go through this kind of purgatory
- 31:10Speaker 1: where they're looking for that. And I want to you know,
- 31:14Speaker 1: and make that window smaller. Yeah, I was gonna say,
- 31:17Speaker 1: where in the purgatory where they right now? Yeah? I mean,
- 31:20Speaker 1: can you remember a time like this in another NFL
- 31:22Speaker 1: team where there was you know, certainly an incumbent starter
- 31:25Speaker 1: who is good, but maybe you know, hasn't quite proven
- 31:28Speaker 1: that he is an elite quarterback and then you have
- 31:30Speaker 1: another guy kind of nipping at his heels a little bit,
- 31:32Speaker 1: who you know, up taking it. And then it's because
- 31:36Speaker 1: of injury and stuff. But like what like with Washington happened,
- 31:39Speaker 1: what happened with Robert Griffin and Kirk Cousins. You know,
- 31:42Speaker 1: it was mostly because of Mike Shanahan ripped up Robert
- 31:45Speaker 1: Griffin's knee right he played in the game. He had
- 31:47Speaker 1: absolutely no business playing, and it ended up doing irreparable damage.
- 31:50Speaker 1: It was never the same. But they've drafted both of
- 31:53Speaker 1: those guys. One was in the first round and one
- 31:55Speaker 1: was in the fourth, fourth round, just like this, but
- 32:00Speaker 1: now same year. But Argie Three's first year, he was
- 32:02Speaker 1: it was great, he was great, and he got hurt.
- 32:05Speaker 1: He got and he got hurt in the playoff and
- 32:06Speaker 1: they rushed him back. Yeah, and then they played on
- 32:10Speaker 1: that that terrible field, and they got a lot of
- 32:12Speaker 1: criticism for rushing him back. Like Fred said, he was
- 32:15Speaker 1: better his rookie. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I just don't remember. Yeah,
- 32:21Speaker 1: I remember getting hurt, but that exact scenario you're talking about,
- 32:24Speaker 1: I can't remember of where you had an incumbent, you know,
- 32:28Speaker 1: and then you got on the second guy Yeah, that's
- 32:30Speaker 1: kind of there. No, it's just it's usually when it
- 32:35Speaker 1: happens you have two guys that aren't all that good,
- 32:37Speaker 1: you know, like Steve Grogan and Matt Kavanaugh, you know
- 32:40Speaker 1: kind of thing. Yeah, you know, it's it's just and
- 32:43Speaker 1: I only use that because that's home, that's Patriots. I
- 32:46Speaker 1: think that's where like my original like thing about the
- 32:48Speaker 1: radio and all that was just coming from a place
- 32:50Speaker 1: of is Mac ever gonna have Bailey z Appy off
- 32:53Speaker 1: his shoulders? Like, because I think you know where we
- 32:56Speaker 1: kind of come out is that. I mean, Mac good,
- 32:58Speaker 1: but I think he needs to something we haven't seen
- 33:01Speaker 1: yet to hit that next level. The problem with Mac
- 33:04Speaker 1: is this happened too early in his career. Yeah, you know,
- 33:07Speaker 1: if he had been an established starter for four or
- 33:09Speaker 1: five years here and then he gets hurt and the
- 33:11Speaker 1: guy comes in and it's great, Okay, he kept he
- 33:14Speaker 1: kept the seat warm. Yes, yeah, right, it happened too
- 33:17Speaker 1: earlier in his career. Sumping a little bit out of
- 33:19Speaker 1: the gate. Yeah, no one will be talking about that.
- 33:21Speaker 1: Fred's absolutely right. If he was the starter for three
- 33:23Speaker 1: years and then got hurt and missed a few games,
- 33:26Speaker 1: you'd be like, you know, thank you for your service, Bailey,
- 33:29Speaker 1: you know now, I mean, I mean, do you think
- 33:31Speaker 1: at any point it would be impetus to trade Bailey's
- 33:34Speaker 1: appy if you know, let's say Matt comes back. He's fine,
- 33:37Speaker 1: he's the starter. He doesn't, you know, play great or terrible.
- 33:40Speaker 1: He's just kind of maybe a little bit better than
- 33:41Speaker 1: it was last year that they feel like we got
- 33:44Speaker 1: let's get rid of one of these guys because we
- 33:46Speaker 1: don't want to have um when it comes up to
- 33:47Speaker 1: four years. Yeah, yeah, I was gonna say I wouldn't
- 33:49Speaker 1: until that, you know that would I would have him
- 33:52Speaker 1: up the same year, right, assuming if they picked up
- 33:54Speaker 1: Max ostensibly yes, but I would have um. I'm with
- 33:58Speaker 1: Fred on this. I would wait so the third year
- 34:00Speaker 1: and maybe going into that fourth year, if I thought
- 34:05Speaker 1: that I could get something, then I would. But that's
- 34:08Speaker 1: a good yeah, but something has to be I think
- 34:10Speaker 1: for me at least like a third or sec. And
- 34:12Speaker 1: I know this is gonna do like you said something
- 34:14Speaker 1: like you're always rooting for the blowout, but this one
- 34:15Speaker 1: you want, Like I'll say, my hypocritical thing today will
- 34:18Speaker 1: be cap related. Okay. I do think this value in
- 34:21Speaker 1: having a backup that you are feeling good about who
- 34:24Speaker 1: doesn't make any money. I think this value in that.
- 34:26Speaker 1: I sure as much as I pooh pooh the crap
- 34:29Speaker 1: the cap, I do think. Oh yeah, well, I think
- 34:32Speaker 1: you're benefiting having a guy who's making a hundred veteran
- 34:35Speaker 1: backup salaries. You could probably line those up and I
- 34:37Speaker 1: bet it's dropping the bucket with Billy's Appy's getting paid.
- 34:40Speaker 1: So and I think we were one of the like,
- 34:42Speaker 1: you know, Brian Hoyer made a decent you know, backup
- 34:45Speaker 1: quarterback salary as a thirty six thirty seven year old,
- 34:49Speaker 1: you know veteran. Yeah, eight five five past five hundred
- 34:52Speaker 1: is eight ticket hu line eight five five pasts five hundred.
- 34:56Speaker 1: Let's uh, let's go to the phones and see what
- 34:58Speaker 1: our listeners have to say. Let's start with Jerry in
- 35:01Speaker 1: North Carolina. Hey, Jerry, what's going on? Everybody? Hey a
- 35:06Speaker 1: long time Patriots fan? Great? Hello Jerry? Hey, Hey, um,
- 35:11Speaker 1: so I got really a statement in two questions. The
- 35:15Speaker 1: statement goes like this, So, um, I think one of
- 35:18Speaker 1: the biggest things a lot of people are missing when
- 35:21Speaker 1: it comes to the difference between Billy Zappy and Mac
- 35:24Speaker 1: Jones is when you see Billy Zappy you see a
- 35:27Speaker 1: little bit of that twinkle of um Brett Barkin, a
- 35:32Speaker 1: little bit of that gun plinner versus the long term
- 35:36Speaker 1: thinking thing that you get with Mac Jones. Okay, so
- 35:41Speaker 1: which one do you like? What do you say the
- 35:42Speaker 1: long term one? You get the methodical thinking, processing type
- 35:48Speaker 1: situation with Mac Jones that a lot of times get
- 35:52Speaker 1: him in trouble and he missus. Reef, Well, here's the thing,
- 35:55Speaker 1: if if, if numbers mean anything to you, Zappy had
- 35:59Speaker 1: some pretty damn good numbers in college now, albeit against
- 36:02Speaker 1: lesser competition. But man, he chucked the ball around, right,
- 36:07Speaker 1: So which one do you prefer? Jerry? So let me
- 36:10Speaker 1: ask you this before I answer that question. They may
- 36:13Speaker 1: ask you this. If Bailey ZAPPI was at Alabama with
- 36:16Speaker 1: the same tools that Mac Jones had, do you think
- 36:19Speaker 1: it would have been a different result or it would
- 36:20Speaker 1: have been higher? Oh? God, I think could have been
- 36:24Speaker 1: the same result. I don't know. I mean, yeah, I
- 36:28Speaker 1: think I think you could plug any quarterback team and
- 36:31Speaker 1: you would have had the same result. You got receivers
- 36:34Speaker 1: like you know Wattle, and you know, I mean it's everything. Yeah,
- 36:38Speaker 1: it's the coaching line, it's the line, it's the receivers,
- 36:41Speaker 1: it's the defense. Yeah, it had probably been similar. Yeah,
- 36:46Speaker 1: So what I'm saying is, would we still be having
- 36:49Speaker 1: the same conversation as if he's a backup quarterback, if
- 36:52Speaker 1: he would have played at Alabama with the same tools. Um,
- 36:56Speaker 1: it's a good point. It's a good point. The pedigree,
- 36:58Speaker 1: I'm gonna put you down for zappy competition would have
- 37:01Speaker 1: been there. Yep, yeah, yep, yeah, okay, okay. But my
- 37:07Speaker 1: question is when are we going to start seeing more
- 37:10Speaker 1: of the trips uh sets with the with the wire receivers,
- 37:15Speaker 1: Like we got Kendrick Moore, we see Thornton's back, we
- 37:18Speaker 1: still got Jakobe Myers. I feel like we can get
- 37:21Speaker 1: a lot more UM play actions off those trips that
- 37:26Speaker 1: I think we've seen a little bit of that. I
- 37:28Speaker 1: have to ask Evan, but I do remember them. I
- 37:30Speaker 1: don't have the numbers because I don't care, but I
- 37:32Speaker 1: see like Parker Myers in in uh yeah, and I
- 37:38Speaker 1: and I and you know in a trip set too.
- 37:41Speaker 1: I've seen them all on the same side, like stacked
- 37:43Speaker 1: and you know, I've seen a little bit of that. Yeah,
- 37:46Speaker 1: I mean, I think three receivers is their most popular
- 37:49Speaker 1: personnel group. Yeah. I played almost entirely the first couple
- 37:52Speaker 1: of weeks too in it. Yeah, So I think you'll
- 37:55Speaker 1: see a little bit more of that, and I think
- 37:56Speaker 1: you've seen already a little of it already. I think
- 37:59Speaker 1: injured still depend on it, you know, And I don't
- 38:02Speaker 1: know they feel like they can build off anything that
- 38:03Speaker 1: Johnny did you know? Is that can that bump up
- 38:06Speaker 1: the two tight ends at all? But I think that
- 38:08Speaker 1: the injuries to Born and aglare the big question. It
- 38:10Speaker 1: makes us a little thin right now, all of us.
- 38:12Speaker 1: You know, before it was like, oh we've got this
- 38:13Speaker 1: glut of wide receivers and now or many Tree Nixon? Yeah, right,
- 38:18Speaker 1: So yeah, question, is there any true to the Patriots
- 38:23Speaker 1: looking at a DJ more. I haven't heard anybody j
- 38:28Speaker 1: the Patriots but that I don't really look at a
- 38:30Speaker 1: lot of that stuff. So I haven't seen it. I
- 38:32Speaker 1: haven't heard it. I haven't heard I got a wide
- 38:34Speaker 1: receiver one for you. Um Thanks Jerry, Thanks Jerry. Um. So,
- 38:39Speaker 1: like we were talking about Jeremy Foller had born in
- 38:42Speaker 1: Agalore as possible trade candidates, and you know my initial
- 38:45Speaker 1: reaction is like, well, I mean, obviously not going to
- 38:48Speaker 1: get rid of both of them. I think they would
- 38:49Speaker 1: get rid of one if they got rid of any
- 38:52Speaker 1: of them. But what if they traded Born because they
- 38:54Speaker 1: thought they could get something for him, and then signed
- 38:56Speaker 1: Odell Beckham, who's now seemingly getting close. I saw something
- 39:00Speaker 1: like the Chiefs are now you know, involved in that.
- 39:04Speaker 1: It no longer looks like it's a foregone conclusion that
- 39:07Speaker 1: he's returning to the Rams, which I think most people
- 39:09Speaker 1: entered the season thinking he's going back to the Rams.
- 39:12Speaker 1: Maybe he's looking at that offensive line and say, which
- 39:14Speaker 1: good is it going to do? And Stafford gets killed
- 39:16Speaker 1: every play? You know, I'm not gonna be able to
- 39:18Speaker 1: do anything. But would you be willing to entertain that? Fred?
- 39:22Speaker 1: If they traded Born, maybe got a draft pick or two,
- 39:25Speaker 1: and signed Odell Beckham? When's the deadline November first? I'm
- 39:30Speaker 1: just thinking, do I have enough information to say, Okay,
- 39:34Speaker 1: we've got a shot it's worth bringing him in, or
- 39:36Speaker 1: like it ain't gonna make a difference. Ah? I think so?
- 39:39Speaker 1: I would? I mean? I would? I mean right now,
- 39:42Speaker 1: my feeling about this Patriots team is that I wouldn't
- 39:45Speaker 1: probably want to stack them up against Buffalo. But I
- 39:46Speaker 1: think if you added one more receiver to the mix.
- 39:49Speaker 1: I mean, I take them against I mean straight up anybody.
- 39:53Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know they'll beat anybody that could
- 39:54Speaker 1: beat or lose to anybody. I guess outside. How much
- 39:57Speaker 1: better do you think the Patriots are offensively with Odell
- 40:00Speaker 1: Beckham instead of Kendrick Bourne. I'd like to believe that
- 40:04Speaker 1: they would. They would be healthy, think they'd have to
- 40:06Speaker 1: be They'd be better. Yeah, they'd be better. I don't
- 40:08Speaker 1: know how much, but they would be better not I mean,
- 40:10Speaker 1: it's hard to know where Odell Beckham's at, how he
- 40:12Speaker 1: would kind of fit into things, and you know, if
- 40:15Speaker 1: he messes better with how if they were using Born
- 40:17Speaker 1: like last year, I would probably say, I don't really
- 40:20Speaker 1: I'd rather have the guy that's been in the system
- 40:22Speaker 1: and work, and I know he works, and as opposed
- 40:25Speaker 1: to bringing the guy in who has more talent. You
- 40:27Speaker 1: don't think anybody would argue with that Beckham is a
- 40:29Speaker 1: better player than Kenrick Boy. I don't think anybody would
- 40:32Speaker 1: argue that, Um, you know, maybe some of the Wall defenders,
- 40:35Speaker 1: but I mean I think most people would would admit
- 40:38Speaker 1: that Beckham's a better player, yeah, but maybe not necessarily
- 40:41Speaker 1: better for you a team right now, and I think
- 40:43Speaker 1: you're right though. I think there's still a part of
- 40:44Speaker 1: me though, it's just like, can we just play Born
- 40:46Speaker 1: more and get more out of him. I mean, he's
- 40:47Speaker 1: got the toe injury now too, which probably going to
- 40:49Speaker 1: complicate those matters a little bit. But I don't know.
- 40:53Speaker 1: It's tough. I mean, it's a tough balance because Agglore
- 40:55Speaker 1: has the big contract, but he probably has a little
- 40:57Speaker 1: bit more appeal. I would say, just to other teams
- 40:59Speaker 1: that he's kind of been around a little bit, had
- 41:01Speaker 1: some success in Philadelphia. Born it's a little bit harder,
- 41:05Speaker 1: I think to translate like how does he fit into
- 41:07Speaker 1: everybody else's team? But he's more affordable, so that might
- 41:09Speaker 1: make him more movable. I think at the end of
- 41:11Speaker 1: the day, they're gonna just stick with what they got.
- 41:13Speaker 1: Ever see here, though, let's go back to the phones.
- 41:16Speaker 1: We'll go to Anthony in Seattle. What's up, Anthony? The
- 41:20Speaker 1: worlds are read? No podcast? You got it? You got it?
- 41:26Speaker 1: I love that, man, I love that. Hey, um, a
- 41:30Speaker 1: couple quick things, um uh, I completely drew a blank.
- 41:34Speaker 1: Not so quick. Oh hey, Paul put me down for
- 41:38Speaker 1: for Matt last I saw what he was making plays
- 41:42Speaker 1: that I didn't think he was capable of making. So
- 41:45Speaker 1: I want to see more of that to see if
- 41:47Speaker 1: he can do that or that he was just out
- 41:49Speaker 1: of his mind that day, because I mean, if he
- 41:51Speaker 1: can be that but with one intercess in the set
- 41:53Speaker 1: of three, then he's my quarterback. So I want to
- 41:55Speaker 1: see if they can do that. All right, Um, I
- 41:58Speaker 1: uh what? I would you know it's calling it because
- 42:01Speaker 1: I was thinking about them the debate, that's the hot
- 42:05Speaker 1: debate about the down fifteen and going for two and
- 42:09Speaker 1: all that just stuff. And I actually haven't answered a
- 42:12Speaker 1: Paul's question why is it better to be down at
- 42:14Speaker 1: nine than eight? Which I didn't think. I haven't an
- 42:17Speaker 1: answer to that. But before I answer that, I do
- 42:19Speaker 1: want to say, Paul, I'm with you. If you put
- 42:22Speaker 1: me in the situation, I'm just gonna take the extra
- 42:24Speaker 1: point every time and try to get to two later. Um.
- 42:26Speaker 1: But when people were calling an emailing with their analytics
- 42:30Speaker 1: and they brought analytics to the picture, I don't want
- 42:33Speaker 1: to say I changed my mind, but they made me
- 42:35Speaker 1: realize that it's more of if you're gonna look at
- 42:37Speaker 1: it from an analytics standpoint, it's actually just kind of
- 42:40Speaker 1: it's the same thing. It's like right down the middle,
- 42:42Speaker 1: you're either what you know, you're either gonna be successful
- 42:47Speaker 1: on the two point conversion or unsuccessful. Whether it's the
- 42:50Speaker 1: first time or second time. You're either gonna be tie
- 42:53Speaker 1: the game, or you're gonna be down two point kick
- 42:55Speaker 1: kicking an on side at the end of the game.
- 42:57Speaker 1: But but one one flight advantage, UH, to what you
- 43:00Speaker 1: were asking, Paul, why is it better to be down
- 43:02Speaker 1: nine than eight? If you're just just asking that question
- 43:05Speaker 1: in general, of course, not if you'd rather be down eight,
- 43:08Speaker 1: But if you're looking at it from in that scenario, um,
- 43:12Speaker 1: and you're again you're you're using analytics, you have to assume, Okay,
- 43:16Speaker 1: the same percent is the same chance that UH is
- 43:19Speaker 1: that you missed either made the extra two point in
- 43:22Speaker 1: version or you missed the extra or you missed the
- 43:24Speaker 1: two pointing version, whether you went for it on the
- 43:26Speaker 1: first second attempt. So go off the permits that you
- 43:28Speaker 1: missed the two point conversion either way. Well, then if
- 43:31Speaker 1: you're down let's say you're if you're down nine, then
- 43:34Speaker 1: that means you've already failed. If you're down eight, that
- 43:38Speaker 1: just means you haven't failed. Yet right, So if you're
- 43:41Speaker 1: down nine, you kick the ball off, which I think
- 43:45Speaker 1: that you're also still got time to kick the ball
- 43:46Speaker 1: off if there's six minutes left. But but either way
- 43:49Speaker 1: that you're here nor you say, let's say you're driving,
- 43:53Speaker 1: you're you know you're going at you're going fast. You
- 43:55Speaker 1: need you need two scores. Right. Let's say you get
- 43:57Speaker 1: to a fourth down and you got you know, all
- 44:00Speaker 1: the time, I was left two and a half minutes
- 44:01Speaker 1: left in the game. If you're down nine, he's already
- 44:04Speaker 1: failed and you're in field goal range, the field goal
- 44:07Speaker 1: is in play. If you're down eight, the field goal
- 44:10Speaker 1: is no longer in play. So in that Saints scenario,
- 44:14Speaker 1: you you know that you continue to drive, but say
- 44:16Speaker 1: you can burn the fourth down? Wait wait wait wait
- 44:18Speaker 1: wait wait, So you're down nine, the field goals in
- 44:23Speaker 1: play to make it six, right, right, So why down eight?
- 44:28Speaker 1: Is the field goal not in play to make it five?
- 44:29Speaker 1: Either way, you still need a touchdown? No, no no, no,
- 44:32Speaker 1: because because you're well, yes, the field goal isn't played,
- 44:34Speaker 1: but you're gonna get crucified, right because you don't know
- 44:36Speaker 1: that you've failed the two bing and burthen yet. So
- 44:38Speaker 1: if you yes, you you absolutely can't kick the field
- 44:40Speaker 1: goal to make it five, But then they're gonna I
- 44:43Speaker 1: wish kick a field goal. You gotta do you know
- 44:44Speaker 1: what I mean? No, No, because Bill Belichick was down
- 44:47Speaker 1: eight and didn't kick field goals in the twenty fifteen
- 44:50Speaker 1: AFC Championship game against Denver, and he got crucified for
- 44:53Speaker 1: it because if they kicked field goals on those three trips,
- 44:55Speaker 1: they wouldn't have had Remember, they ended up getting a
- 44:59Speaker 1: touchdown and ultimately didn't get the two in the last minute. Anthony.
- 45:02Speaker 1: I also I summarily dismiss the fact that the two
- 45:06Speaker 1: point conversion play is always the same percentage, Like, if
- 45:09Speaker 1: you miss it early, you'll get you know, chances are
- 45:11Speaker 1: you get it late. You can't tell me that if
- 45:13Speaker 1: a team rallies for fifteen points in the last six
- 45:15Speaker 1: minutes of the game, that the chances of them getting
- 45:17Speaker 1: the two point conversion in the last minute aren't better
- 45:20Speaker 1: than they were with six minutes left before the comeback
- 45:22Speaker 1: has even started. Like, you can't tell me the motions
- 45:25Speaker 1: don't twenty three that did you think there was any
- 45:28Speaker 1: chance that those two two point conversions weren't going to
- 45:30Speaker 1: get converted? No, the train was rolling. Yeah, that's but
- 45:33Speaker 1: if you ask me about the other you asked me
- 45:35Speaker 1: about a third time play in the second quarter, I
- 45:36Speaker 1: would have told you again and the defense was gassed, right,
- 45:40Speaker 1: you know So, Anthony, thanks for the call. But I'll
- 45:43Speaker 1: tell you I get the theory. I mean, I understand
- 45:45Speaker 1: we've got so many I'm not going to get out
- 45:47Speaker 1: to them, and everybody has explained it. Everybody has explained it.
- 45:50Speaker 1: I understand what the mentality is. Am I allowed to
- 45:53Speaker 1: disagree with it? Sure? I don't really get the notion
- 45:58Speaker 1: that three scores in the last six minutes, it matters
- 46:01Speaker 1: how you get them, Like I would rather go seven
- 46:04Speaker 1: first than six. That's all you guys. It doesn't matter
- 46:09Speaker 1: because it's on a chart and it says, you know,
- 46:13Speaker 1: I would rather only need two scores. Yeah, but then three.
- 46:18Speaker 1: This is an important issue to people, but they're all
- 46:21Speaker 1: exp they're all explaining it the same way, and I
- 46:23Speaker 1: get it. They're all explaining it properly. I totally understand.
- 46:26Speaker 1: This is another thing. It's kind of like the soccer
- 46:28Speaker 1: people who tell you that you just don't understand it.
- 46:30Speaker 1: I understand. I just disagree. I'm like, we don't all
- 46:34Speaker 1: have to have the same opinion on things. Fourth down
- 46:38Speaker 1: from from like the other team's forty, go for it.
- 46:41Speaker 1: I love it. The analytics will tell you it's a
- 46:43Speaker 1: great move. I get it, I understand it. I agree
- 46:46Speaker 1: with it. But not every time. Not every time do
- 46:49Speaker 1: I agree with two points? Why do you think? Why
- 46:53Speaker 1: do you think most coaches feel it's best to put
- 46:56Speaker 1: off going for two as long as you can later
- 47:00Speaker 1: in the game you get then you you know, when
- 47:01Speaker 1: you're when you're chasing points, you put it off as
- 47:04Speaker 1: long as you can. Why do people think that is?
- 47:06Speaker 1: Because because it extends the game. It extends a game,
- 47:09Speaker 1: but it's also more sure to get the point. Take
- 47:12Speaker 1: the point. No, no, but but my point, like you
- 47:17Speaker 1: want to have hope, you want to play the rest
- 47:19Speaker 1: of the game. Like the game ended on them failed
- 47:21Speaker 1: two point conversion. I know people don't agree, but the
- 47:24Speaker 1: game ended because they found themselves still down two scores
- 47:28Speaker 1: with six minutes left. And now I need a miracle.
- 47:31Speaker 1: Now I need Kenyan Drake in Miami Miracle. Okay, if
- 47:36Speaker 1: I only need eight, I don't need a miracle. I
- 47:38Speaker 1: just need to stop one stop and then I can
- 47:40Speaker 1: go down and I can control it. If I can score,
- 47:42Speaker 1: I can tie it. If I don't, I lose same thing.
- 47:46Speaker 1: Yeah alright, but at least I have hope I can
- 47:49Speaker 1: play the last thing. I extend the game. I'm playing
- 47:52Speaker 1: the last six minutes competitively. Today's lunch is brought to
- 47:55Speaker 1: us by Pete and no Ottawa. Pete, Pete. You know,
- 47:58Speaker 1: every once in a while are centers buy us lunch

- 58:06Speaker 1: a salmon color. It's not quite fall, not quite summer.
- 58:09Speaker 1: It's almost like a sunset color. Yeah, right, the end
- 58:11Speaker 1: of one season the beginning of another. I like it.
- 58:16Speaker 1: No hard shirt though, no, yeah, it's human. You don't
- 58:20Speaker 1: have one either. No. I never wear fur bearing animal
- 58:23Speaker 1: shirt with a dress shirt. Yeah, but not with a
- 58:26Speaker 1: polo shirt. That's just right, because it's ridiculous. It's ridiculous. Yeah,
- 58:30Speaker 1: okay to wear Undershirts are for long sleeve. When you
- 58:33Speaker 1: have a long seam, you don't want to, you know,
- 58:35Speaker 1: but you have a short you don't wear a short
- 58:37Speaker 1: sleeve shirt on top of a short sleeve shirt. That's
- 58:39Speaker 1: just I thought, for hygienic reasons, it's moronic. Why do
- 58:44Speaker 1: you wear an undershirt then, when you have a long
- 58:46Speaker 1: sleeve shirt, Yes, like a dress shirt. Yes, you want
- 58:49Speaker 1: to have something so that in case you get a
- 58:50Speaker 1: little warm, you know, the aspiring. Yeah, the dress shirt
- 58:54Speaker 1: doesn't get so you don't care about that piring because
- 58:58Speaker 1: it looks ridiculous to have a short sleeve shirt on
- 59:01Speaker 1: top of a short sleeve shirt. I feel attacked right now,
- 59:03Speaker 1: and I don't really I don't care for this, not
- 59:07Speaker 1: only that, not only that, and I don't really understand
- 59:09Speaker 1: the difference one layer. That just called you ridiculous. I'm
- 59:12Speaker 1: trying to I'm going to storm out of here, ridiculous.
- 59:17Speaker 1: One layer is less, uh is cooler than two layers.
- 59:22Speaker 1: You have two layers of clothing that's technically warmer. So
- 59:25Speaker 1: on a warm day, if you wear two layers, you're
- 59:26Speaker 1: gonna be hotter and you're gonna swept. So on a
- 59:28Speaker 1: warm day with a dress shirt, you'd only wear just
- 59:30Speaker 1: the dress shirt. Uh. Yeah, to tell you you're having
- 59:34Speaker 1: fatting practice, This is just this is a clinic. That's

- 1:00:04Speaker 1: Guess what Evan has done has been done? I told
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: you it was a banger. Yeah, okay, So we were
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: walking back from practice and Evan said that there was
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: a song and everything, and I thought he was joking. No,
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: you've never heard that before. Thanks for listening. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: I told her it was a banger. Was it a banger?
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: It used to be the Douce song and then we
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: changed it to Evan. I like the original, better choate.
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: So Evan isn't fact back from practice and he's got
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: some news. I do have some news, and I've taken
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: some tile and all. I've rested up and my fever
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: is back to normal. Because based off of what we
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: saw out at practice today, it sure looks like Mac
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: Jones is feeling it is looking more like himself. We
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: also had some reports this morning along the same lines.
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: And the tell is always when you see the starting
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: offensive line get together with the quarterback. One quarterback, not
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: all the quarterbacks, goes and works on the snap cadence
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: with the offensive line. Last couple of weeks it's been
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: Bailey Zappy. This week it was number ten Mac Jones.
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: So Mac is back at QB one. I think it's
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: safe to say that. Okay, yeah, and I think, Tamara,
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: what do you think you were there? Evan Earlier they
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: had Fred had us all ground and pick who we
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: think should start a Monday, and I said, wait, I
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: need to see if Matt Kim run at practice. My
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: eyes have seen him run at practice, and it didn't
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: look like glory. Yes, I didn't see a limp. I
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: saw like normal what appeared to be normal Mac Jones
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: out there, So all right. Yeah, they were playing the
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: Monday Night Football song to open practice and some people
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: have video of Mac his sprint that Tamara is talking about,
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: and it's syncing up with the beats of Monday Night Football.
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: So the vibe is off the charts right now. But
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: he answered your mood question before you even asked it. Yeah,
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: that's true. Oh could still last. Yeah, mood well, and
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: you know, I guess the sharps did know something because,
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: like we said, it opened up at like six and
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: a half and it's up to nine in some places now,
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: so they really think that MAC makes a difference, you know,
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: field goal difference. Yeah, there weren't two guys missing from
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: practice that we should mention. Lawrence Guy not there. I
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: don't like that for the open portion, and Nelson Agalore
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: also not there from the open portion. Alas got the hamstring.
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: Lawrence Guy has got shoulder. He's been out the last
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: couple of weeks since the Ravens game. Is well similar
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: to Mac, so but guy's been practicing right, Like that's
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: kind of strange. Yeah, yeah, so I I spotted him,
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: but he was not partaking. What about Born was there
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: with his toe? Born was there with the sweet visor
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: on as well? Yeah, he was there visor. Yes, what
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: was the what were the with the pads? Pads full pads?
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: Damien Harris there, Damion Harris there, Yeah, and going through drills. Yeah,
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: going through drills and he was the first guy going
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: through every single drill. And again all right, maybe didn't
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: see a limp. He went through drills. Yeah, pregame in Cleveland.
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: He tested it out pregame from Cleveland, and you could
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: tell without even reading lips or anything like that that
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: he wasn't going to play because he kept on grabbing
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: at the leg every single time. You know, he was like,
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: oh it's you know, kind of pointing where the pain
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: was coming to Moses Cabrera. So yeah, it was pretty
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: evident based off of pregame warmups in Cleveland that he
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: was not playing. Okay, well right now, as of right now,
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: it looks like Mac has a chance to start. Yep, yeah,
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: I think, I mean, I think that's probably the favorite
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: in the clubhouse, right oh yeah, yeah. But I thought
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: it was interesting that Bill. What was this Friday where
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: he kept saying like someone could feel really good in
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: practice the next day, wake up and be like that's
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: right backwards. So I thought that's something you'd take a
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: look at too. Was just seeing like, you know, how
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: consistent this days throughout the weeks, Right, you're saying you
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: gotta wait till next practice. I think we gotta wait
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: till Monday. He kept saying how important that Saturday is
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: and how everybody when they wake up that Saturday, how
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: they feel, because that could tell a lot about if
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: they're gonna be ready for the game. Yeah. You know,
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: what's an interesting little thing I was wondering too. They've
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: now promoted Garrett Gilbert I believe twice correct from the
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: practice squad, so they got one one or more. Yeah,
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: so kind of interesting, like little inflection point can you
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: set those or something I thought I saw Miguel talking about.
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: So you can. Once he gets to three. My understanding
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: is then you have to sign him to the fifty
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: three to activate him on game day, and he can.
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: He passes through waivers, right, that's the biggest thing. It's different.
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: So with the standard elevation, they revert back to the
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: practice squad the next day after the game and they
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: don't have to pass through waivers, and that's how you
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: can get guys up from the practice squad. But once
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: you get beyond that three standard elevation number, now guys
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: are subject to waivers. So I don't necessarily think it
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: would matter for Garrett Gilbert. But little Jordan Humphrey has
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: already gotten elevated twice, so he only has one more
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: to go. And if Aglare is not going to be
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: out there, then then fairness, he has already cleared waivers.
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: Once he has I don't really think you have to
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: worry about that. I don't think you'll have to worry
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: about it with Derek Hill. All right, Well, if you're
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: feeling good about it, Paul, then I guess I mean
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: I might be I might be the outlier there, but
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: I think I'm saying if anybody's gonna get claimed, it's
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: gonna be Little Jordan, It's not gonna be Garrett Gilbert. Yeah,
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: I think they have the same amount of chance of
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: getting claimed. Pads are no pads today, full pads, full pads,
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: full pad pads. If you paid attention to Evan's given
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: you all this information, full pads, they're Kedderborne did have
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: a visor one, but yeah, full pads. I think yesterday,
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: you know, Belichick when we talked to him in the morning,
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: said they were going to do meetings in film work
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: and kind of get ahead on that sort of stuff.
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: So today I think it sounds like a pretty full
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: go at practice in terms of in season practice. So
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: do you think you know this is just a theory.
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: Do you think Bill wants to get that full practice,
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: full pad practice right now? To see how Mac does
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: right now, it's possible. Well, it's usually the first practice
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: that is full pads when they when they go full pads.
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: Some weeks they don't go full pads at all. I think,
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: what is it like eleven out of fourteen weeks or
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: something like that. Some weeks they don't go full pads
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: at all, But when they do, it's usually the first.
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: It's usually Wednesday, which is today, was a week they
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: chose to be in the pads that day, and they
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: were last week too. I thought, yeah, they were in
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: pads last week. It was the week before that. Ago
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: is that we took a day? Yeah, they walk through.
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: They took the walk through day after the overtime games. Yeah,
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: I think it was after the overtime game. They went
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: walked through on the Wednesday. It was after the Ravens game. Okay, yeah,
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: So with Mac back out there running around, how did
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: that affect the mood? Look, I mean a big media
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: contingent out there are a lot of cameras big on
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: Mac Jones. I think the rest report how report this
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: morning kind of stirring up the buzz that Mac Jones
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: is expected to play on Monday Night for the Patriots.
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: I think got a lot of people out there today,
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: and yeah, I think the general feeling from everybody that
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: was out there was that Mac looked like a different
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: guy than what we not necessarily physically, I mean we
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: barely saw physical evaluation, but in terms of just his vibe, right,
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: you know, the way he was carrying himself, what he
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: was doing, where he was when he was supposed to.
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: So did he come out like sort of like this
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: is my team, I'm back that kind of swagger. Yeah,
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: not Like I think that's really interesting. I like that,
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: Like like you're not necessarily saying, well, he was moving better,
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: You're saying like his sort of aura exactly, yeah I'm back. Yeah,
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: I like that. Yeah, I like that. I like that.
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: I like I like that. I'm little Kirk Cousins like
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: that he's excited. Well, but I'm being dead serious, like
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: like you said, like when they usually break out and
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: they start going, you know, through their stuff, and Bailey's
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: appy was leading those periods last week and today it
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: was Mac. I like that, like, this is my team.
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: I'm the guy that Hey, Bailey, did you did a
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: really good job. Thanks for not allowing the train to
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: go off the tracks. But I got it finally, just
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: give me the keys. I see what Ivan's talking about
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: though in some of the videos, like he looks like,
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: you know, like a kid, like running to his dog
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: after school or something. I don't think that's insignificant. Maybe
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: I'm making too much because well that just wasn't what
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: we saw in the last couple of weeks that we've
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: seen him out there participating in the limited capacity. And
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: I'm not saying he won't be limited again today, right,
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: but he's going to be limited on Monday, Like he's
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: not like he had a serious high ankle sprain that
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: didn't just disappear in four weeks. I know he's gonna
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: be limping. I know it's not gonna look great, but
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: I just like his vibe the way you're talking about yeah, yeah,
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: and it might be too like the first maybe today's
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: the first chance he actually gets to get into practice
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: and like you know, he's excited to actually he knows
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: he's going to make the first week that maybe maybe
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: he's starting the practice week knowing he's got a chance
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: to play. Well, I just will say that based off
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: of what you hear the rumblings around the build, he
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: did take part a little bit in practice last week
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: at times, and that's why he traveled to Cleveland because
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: there was a chance that he was going to play
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: in that game on Sunday. I think on Saturday night
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: they sort of made that decision that, look, with the
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: Monday night game the next week, we have a little
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: bit of a longer week. Let's let's play this safe
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: and go one more week with it and make sure
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: that it were one hundred percent or close to it
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: as but it closes it to it as he can.
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: But last week it was not all zappy taking first
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: team reps. There were some instances where mac Jones was
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: circling in there as well. So I think every single
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: week we see a little bit more. But today, like
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: we keep saying, it was just sort of the way
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: he was carrying himself. Yeah, you know, it's just a
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: different type of swack. I'm bad. Yeah yeah, all right,
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: five five five hundred is the ACE ticket out line. Again.
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: I want to thank Pete Ottawa for buying lunch today.
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: Thanks Pete was delicious. Um, let's go to Matt and Arizona.
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: What's up Matt? Well, Hey, hey hey everyone. Happy Sports
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: Equinox Thursday Sports Equinox. All the sports are playing today.
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: Oh wow, so um, I know you guys, don't you
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: know all the trade rumors. But I heard I see
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: that Jack Mason from the Panthers is potentially available. Is
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: that something able to look into? Possibly Shack Thompson. Thompson,
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: Jack Thompson from the Panthers, I think everybody and how
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: he would fit in, man, I don't know. I mean,
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: I think he's more of those the undersized guys, right, yeah,
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: I'm I'm over chasing the speed at linebacker. I think
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: they unless you're getting a player that is a freak
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: and has that kind of speed with some size to
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: him as well, like you know, prime Jamie Collins is
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: like the example I always go back to, which is,
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: you know, only a handful of guys on the planet
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: that are two hundred and fifty five pounds that moved
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: like Jamie Collins did. What's the difference between a guy
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: like Shack Thompson and just playing Kyle Dugger at the
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: linebacker level, or Adrian Phillips at linebacker or Mack Wilson.
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: I just don't know if there's a huge yeah, good advantage.
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: Go back to your Derek Brown thing. I think that's
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: the that's the guy. Yes, yeah, thanks for the call, Matt.
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: Let's go to Mike and Connecticut. What's up, Mike. Are
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: you guys doing good? I remember you guys were talking
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: earlier before the break about and Paul said too, you know,
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: it's good to keep Zappy at the backup because he's chief.
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: I think he's played well enough to keep that spot
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: from Lawyer. And I mean, I'd rather see Zappy play
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: if that was the case over Lawyer at this point.
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: I'm team Mack by the way. I just want to
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: get that gat, noted Um. I think it'd be good
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: to keep him, you know, and I want him to
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: push Mac. I don't want Mac to, you know, if
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: it was the case, I don't want Mac to whine
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: about Zappy being over his shoulder or whatever, like you know,
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: go beat him up then, you know, like if you're
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: as good as you possibly think you are, you know,
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: you shouldn't have anything to worry about. Yep, R right totally.
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: And then the last thing I wanted to, you know,
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: and I guess it's great that Evan's there, you know,
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: are we ever going to really see and maybe if
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: Mac comes back, maybe we'll see that this week and
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: maybe as we go forward, but are we going to
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: ever see like more pre snap motion. I feel like
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: when we watched the Dolphins versus Week one, they had
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: Tyree Hill running all over the place, and I know
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: that we don't maybe have someone like that, maybe Taekwon Thornton,
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: we don't know, But like I feel like even with
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: Kendrick Bourne, getting those guys moving before the snap could
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: help out Mac or Zappy and and then get them
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: going up the field with some speed. Yeah, it's I've
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: been harpened on that since Week one and they're still
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: near the bottom of the league in pre snap motion,
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: and I don't think it's something that they are super
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: crazy about now. I think one thing that definitely changes
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: when you have a rookie quarterback is that sometimes the
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: pre snap motion can actually cause a lot of confusion
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: for both the offense and the defense. But obviously you're
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: doing it to cause the defense of confusion, but offensively,
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: you're changing the formation, you're changing the coverage structure, and
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: there's different reads and things like that that you're going
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: to have to make in a split second because of
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: that motion. So a less experienced quarterback you usually dial
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: back things like motion. Now play action that's different. That's
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: something that you always want to use in general, but
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: especially with the younger quarterback. But when it comes to
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: motioning guys, that is kind of like, you know, more
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: graduate level type of stuff for the most part. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: and I agree, they definitely need to use more play
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: action with Mac. I think whatever the low percentage it
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: was when he was in there, it's just embarrassingly low. Yeah,
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: especially with how well they've run the ball. And I
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: know that's a cliche because you don't have to run
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: the ball well to play action effectively, but I think
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: it helps. So the better you the ball, I think
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: it helps you. And they, you know, there were times
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: where they were running the ball reasonably well, and they
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: still haven't really used a ton of play action with
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: Mac this year, not like last year and not like
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: since Zappie has taken over. Yeah, I wouldn't. Like, I
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: agree with the nerds and the fact that the volume
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: of running doesn't necessarily impact the play action, but the formation,
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: the blocking scheme, the timing of the play like I think, yeah, like,
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: I think all those types of things when you put
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: run personnel on the field and you're in a run
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: formation and then you mimic a run with your offensive
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: line Like that's how you sell play action, and that's
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: what makes it so effective. So I think that there
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: is a lot to be said for the fact that
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: you gotta time up play action on first and second
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: down with that sort of look to it that you
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: it looks like you're running the football, but you're not.
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: And I think that that's why it's been so successful.
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: In the last couple of weeks. Matt's in Florida. What's up, Matt? Hi?
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: First time, long time, Thank you. I moved down here
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: about fifteen years to go to Florida. Um, and you
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: guys have been keeping me in the loop, so I
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: appreciate it. Where'd you move from? Um? Cape Cod Sandwich,
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: mass Oh, that's where I live. Good? Good for you.
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: Maybe why'd you leave? Maybe you moved into his house?
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: Why'd you leave Paradise? My family moved down here. Okay,
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: I was in high school. I didn't have a say
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: in the matter. But uh, um, I'm calling because kind
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: of last minute, I've been able to schedule a trip
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: up there. I'm gonna be able to go see my
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: first game at Gillette I'm really excited. Then I'm gonna
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: be done in a week on the Cape with my
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: girlfriend and hopefully fingers crossed, come back engaged. So wow,
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: it up the hot top listening. I got engaged on
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: the Cape? What do you got a whole plan? Does? She?
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: Is she aware this is coming? Yeah? I mean we've
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: been together for a ten years, so we've had a
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: time kind of slack of antlimatic at this point, been three.
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: Where are you gonna go on? Where are you gonna
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: go on the Cape? You gotta spot picked out everything
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: on sandwich and we're gonna be Fred to come over
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: and help you out here, Fred, you should come over
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: and give him your blessing. Yeah, I'll present the ring
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: like Premima knocked out with Fred. So who do you like? Mac? Yeah?
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: I know I was calling because I also wanted to
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: get him Paul's pole here ride that favorite thing. I
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: call in right after we get the report from Evan.
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: But I am on team Mac. Okay, I think um now,
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: Fred will definitely give you his blessing like Paul. I
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: uh started having some mixed feelings after watching Zappy that game.
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: But kind of what I've come to think is that
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: for the first time a long time. I don't think
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: Bill's main goal this year is winning. I think a
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: lot of people kind of got that idea with Cam
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: Newton and last year making to the playoffs. But I
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: think if you look at you know, not going after
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: an offensive coordinator, not bringing back you know, the old
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: folks home of linebackers, and starting all these rookies and everything,
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: I think he's his main goal was trying to get
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: Mack to start doing some things different, and that's kind
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: of what led to all the turnovers. And yeah, we'll
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: see here going forward, but I think we got to
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: give Max some time to make those mistakes, like Fred
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: was saying, and started making the plays downfield. Interesting. All right,
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: thanks Matt, good luck Matt, She says, yes, yeah, yeah,
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: So I think he said that in an interesting way,
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: and I don't necessarily agree with it literally that Bill's
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: not interested in winning. I mean, obviously he's cares a
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: lot about winning, but I do think that there's something
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: to be said of there was a sort of change
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: in direction with in terms of the personnel usage. Right.
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: We talked about this a lot. They're using a lot
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: more young players than they have now. It's not just
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: because you know player X Y and Z is better
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: than young player X Y and Z from the past.
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: I think that part of it. I think Jack Jones
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: is better than Jowan Williams as an example. Okay, but
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: it's not just that. I think he's shown more of
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: a willingness to say, these kids are gonna make some mistakes,
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: but we're going to live through them and we're gonna
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: be better off for them, much like the philosophy that
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: Evan talked about offensively yesterday. With Mac Jones, you understand
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: what needs to be done to get where you want
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: to go ultimately, and in order to get there, you're
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: gonna make mistakes along the way, and you might not
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: be as good as you could be this year with
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: Mac Jones figuring out how to make these big plays
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: without turning the ball over. But I think Bill hopes
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: down the road, I will have an offense that's capable
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: of playing with anybody, not just the bad teams. Yeah.
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: I still go back to the Saban thing and he
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: did it might play defense anymore much before Bill, because
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: I think Bill, I think he's actually asked about it.
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: Maybe last year someone asked him. And you think Phil
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: I think Phil Perry. He didn't really like the like
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: the bristol at it. Yeah, he said, oh well we
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: want to use your defense. Well, we want a Super
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: Bowl thirteen to three, you know, not too long ago, right,
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: you know, stuff like that. Scored one hundred points in
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: the two games to get to that, right but right.
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: But I do think that he's kind of coming to
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: that realization a little bit more now. And the sort
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: of the blueprint that you look at. It's not necessarily
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: that you can't win in the meantime or you can't
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: be competitive in the meantime, but you look at what
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: you know Buffalo did or what Kansas City did, and
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: sort of this build up with the young quarterback where
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: really you're looking to hit the ceiling and like you're
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: three or four of that rookie contract. So we're in
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: your two right now for Max. So this is kind
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: of like the appetizer, right, this is this is the setup.
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: Now next offseason, you got a bunch of money again
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: in free agency, you can make some more moves to
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: fill the holes or maybe upgrade certain places of your roster,
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: and yours three and four is really where you want
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: to be at that peak of maximizing Mac Jones. So
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: this you're not necessarily I don't think in the building
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: they would say it's not a we're not trying to
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: win or we're not trying to contend. I wouldn't take
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: it super literally, right, but I do think that there
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: is it's a it's a rebuild, so obviously it's going
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: to take a couple of years. Yeah, let's go to
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: Bailey in Connecticut. Zappy's up, Bailey, because you're not getting
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: the one reps. I didn't think Mac looked that good
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: at practice, and I don't want to be QB two.
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: Sorry Bailey. Hey there, guys, Um, I'm gonna say right now,
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: go with Mac absolutely. Um. I think last week showed
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: that we are, you know, still a system team where
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: our play calling was looking great last week, probably the
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: best it's ever looked this season. We were really really
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: splitting that coverage and we were blocking really really well,
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: so it opened up a lot of that play action
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: and so I think, you know, we're looking really really
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: solid going in this season. Okay, thanks, thanks Bailey, appreciate
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: the call. Let's go to Dwayne in Boston. What's up Dwayne? Hello? Hey, UM,
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: I have a question for you. Um, over the last
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: eight games that mac Jones has played, including their playoff
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: loss to Buffalo, mac Jones has only won two of
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: those the last eight games that he started. Can you
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: take a few minutes to just kind of talk about
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: what has gone wrong during the last eight starts that
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: mac Jones has had, and what and how you expect
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: the things to improve or get worse in the next
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: eight starts that mac Jones had. That's a good question.
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: I would need to know the opponents. No, But like
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: I would ask you my simple, snarky answer to what
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: went wrong in the last eight games, the six of
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: them that he lost, is they played against good teams. Yeah,
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: but like there's no there's no doubt in my mind
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: that the Patriots would be three and three if mac
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: Jones played all six games. I think that you could
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: make an argument that they be four and two, Yeah,
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: because I think they might have beaten three and Bay.
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: Now the whole game changes, But I'm just talking about
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: the way that game unfolded. If mac Jones played, they
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: win the way that game went down. But well, I
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: guess I don't mean they interrupt you, No, No, I'm
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: just saying they lost. I mean, they lost a Buffalo twice,
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: they lost to Baltimore, they lost to Miami twice. Like,
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: they lost to good teams. And the games that they've
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: won have been against the Cleveland's, the Detroits, Yeah, the Jacksonvilles.
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: I mean, I hate it. I hate saying it, but
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: that's that's what it's been. But I also think the
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: defense fell apart. And maybe they weren't that good to
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: begin with, but right they couldn't stop a cold. But
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: you will say, like, can you just, like you know
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: how I told you if the Jets end up being
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: really good in two weeks and the Jets and like
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: they beat the Patriots, I tell you can blom me
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: to death because I don't see it happening. Okay, can
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: you just say, like the next time they play a
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: really good offense, if the offense, like, don't tell me
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: the Patriots defense fell apart like they did against Baltimore. Like,
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: let's not just say like that the defense felt. That's
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: what when you play a good offense, the other team's
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: gonna score. It's getting back to Evans thing about Nick
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: Saban in defense, and I think it took that Monday
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: night game in twenty twenty when Bill told Lewis Riddick
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: and Brian Greasy that Josh Allen ain't all that anyone
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: out and scored thirty eight of the most easy points
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: in the first three quarters of the game. But and
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: I think he said, yeah, I think I might. I
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: might be wrong about that. I thought I could just
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: stop anybody with my schemes. I can't absolutely. But you know,
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: it's one thing to not to give up points in
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: the NFL, everybody does it. It's another thing to not
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: have the other team punt. In two games. You know,
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: they just didn't. They couldn't do anything. You know, they
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: really they fell apart. And a lot of it is
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: they played better teams, There's no doubt about it. But
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: you know, I don't see other I didn't see other
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: teams not, you know, able to force a punt. I'm
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: not going to get fixated on whether or not they punted.
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: I mean, the next game the Bills played, the Rams
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: didn't make them punt either. Like, I'm not going to
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: fixate on the whole punting thing in general. When you
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: see the Chiefs play, their offense plays well, the Bills
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: their offense plays well. Like there you know, last your
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: Dallas's offense played well virtually every game. Like there there
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: are teams that just have offense. I don't care what
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: you do on defense, you're gonna give up points and yards. Yeah,
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: I didn't fall apart defensively. You got beat by better personnel.
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: But earlier in the season, like you said, against Dallas
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: and against Tampa Bay, the defense didn't fall apart. No,
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: they did defense. They gave up over five hundred yards
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: and thirty something points. This is what I'm saying. When
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: you played good offenses, you couldn't stop them. Well, they
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: kept them in the game against Dallas, but it was
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: fairly close, wasn't It was an overtime game, but the
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: other team moved the ball and scored at will Friend. Yeah,
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't think Dallas punted it too
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: many times in that game. Well to use your like
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: be all end all. If your punt, that means you
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: played defense. And I think you're right, Paul, like to
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: the general point of like just playing better teams, and
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: but like, why can't they beat those better teams. I
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: think this offseason they showed you a little bit that
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: I think they just need to get faster. They need
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: more athleticism, and that's why I'm there. That was the
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: motivation year from you know, from Macro this spring, like
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: you know, we wanted to get faster. I mean, just
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: look at all of them can run, and all of
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: them are are contributing now and stepping right into the lineup,
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: and they're needed to be more of that. If there've
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: been more of that in twenty eighteen twenty nineteen, you know,
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: then we might as Fred's points. Maybe because you you're
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: a little younger, maybe you won't wear down. And that's
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: another thing to say, like Judean usage down a little bit.
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: So I mean you see little elements here and there
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: of trying to avoid what happened last year. But I
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: mean the more I hear from you know, you talk
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: to people who are like the same place I am, where, yeah,
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: the defense looks really good, the coverage is man, they're
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: right on top of everything. But that's wait, that's wait
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: till after Thanksgiving we'll see it, which is just a
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: weird place to be because usually you felt like, all right,
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: these bad games in October November, all right, they're figuring
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: it out there. But but after Thanksgiving we'll have it,
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: and it's been the reverse of that. So I think
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: we're all a little bit, you know, trepidatious about what's
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: gonna happen when you fact you're not gonna you're not
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: gonna you're not gonna shut down Kansas City and you're
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: not gonna shut down the bills. But a stop here
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: or there is what you know. It's like that tennis match.
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: Can you break the serve once but so that you
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: can get up. They couldn't really slow down Indianapolis if
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: they didn't even have a quarter Millie. They fell apart. Okay,
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: you can keep saying they fell apart. I'm telling you,
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: Jarathan Taylor is better than them. Yeah, I think I
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: don't think they fell apart. I think they got beat
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: by a better player. I think to Paul's point, and
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: kind of reminds me of the conversation about the offensive line,
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: where everyone's like the offensive line this and that, it's
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: like yes, to Paul's point, he keeps saying about this
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: the offensive line. Each of them individually, they're gonna have
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: plays where they could beat It's going to happen. The
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: defense is going to get scored on. It's going to happen.
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: But I think the main issue the offense not being
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: able to convert in the red zone. Like all these
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: field goals, I'm over it, Like how you can't compete
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: with the Bills. You can play a great defense all
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: you want, the Bills are going to score, so you
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: need to score and the field goals aren't going to
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: cut it. Yeah, Oh that's like I think it's just
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: not it just also like you know, we used to
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: be in this position, right because they had Brady and
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: they had the offense every single year. So the Patriots
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: used to be in this position, and every team that
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: always used to beat the Patriots were going for it
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: on fourth down. We're pedal to the medal or the
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: whole game, putting pressure on New England to keep scoring.
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: Like I always go back to the Eagles Super Bowl
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: second one, seventeen Super Bowl right where you know, it's
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: it's the Philly Special. It's going for it when they
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: need to go for it on fourth down. It's taking
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: risks on offense because they knew that Brady's gonna throw
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: for five hundred and we're gonna have to be able
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: to score forty points to win this game. And I
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: really feel like with Josh Allen. I'm not talking about
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: the league as a whole, because I think there are
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: games like in Cleveland, like this Monday night game against
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: the Bears, where the Patriots can probably win this game
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: ten to three with ten points by their defense, quite frankly, right, Like,
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: I really feel like they could do that against a
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: lot of these teams. But the team that you're trying
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: to compete with is the Bills, and Josh Allen is
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: a cyborg and you are not going to stop him,
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: just like people couldn't stop Tom Brady. So he's gonna
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: get thirty, like he's gonna hit thirty. And the only
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: way you're gonna beat Buffalo in a neutral game, no
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: no bomb cyclones, no blizzards, no zero degree weather like
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: in a neutral game, the only way that you're going
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: to beat Buffalo is if you can hang more points
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: on the scoreboard than Daycao. And that means you're not
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: going to beat them because we don't have a cyborg.
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: Well as of now, well, I'll give you like we're
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: not gonna score every time we get the ball. No,
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: but I'm going to dovetail it back to the analytic thing. Okay,
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: I have been very complimentary of Belichick's decision to kick
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: a field goal on fourth and one from the nineteen
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: yard line to Evans point against Cleveland in a game
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: that at that time I would have been very comfortable
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: saying I can win this game. Thirteen three ten, three,
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: seventeen ten, something like that. I'll bet anything that Bill
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: on first and goal from the one is thinking against Buffalo. First,
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: try to get a touchdown, Well, we'll go for it.
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: And fourth and one, yeah, yeah, Because to Tamara's point,
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: field goals aren't going to cut it again Buffalo. Right,
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: I'm not going to go three at a time and
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: get to the thirties. But if I could get seven
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: on the board, and maybe he makes one of those
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: mistakes that he's still prone to make occasionally, because he
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: tries every play. He never pulls the plug. He always
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: tries to make a play, and all of a sudden
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: you get him wrapped up and he tries to throw one.
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: He's throw a little off target. Jack Jones picks it off,
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: and all of a sudden, you gotta lead. And that's
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: the Patriot's secret sauce. Make make make the opponent Chase.
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: I thought of the same thing when Evan brought up
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: Super Bowl fifty two with you know, just always being
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: impressed with what the Eagles did, their aggressiveness and everything.
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: Evan said, I just think it's funny now that we're
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: killing Dan Campbell for going for all the fourth downs,
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: and rightly so. But it's just a difference, Yeah, just definitely,
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: Like I would never tell somebody down fourth and nine
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: from like field goal range to say that it's a
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: better chance to go for it the fourth and nine,
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: fourth and one, like the Philly Special. Yeah, by all means.
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: But if I kind of questioned that at the time,
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: to be honest, Yeah, but if it was Brady, I mean,
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: you just like you do understand it a little bit more.
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: It's just things have changed now, Like I'm not going
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: to go to a game with Brady expecting this is
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: the day that Brady's have an off day. I don't
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: know if you stupid aggressive against you know, these Patriots now,
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: but you know, things have changed if you go back
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: to around twenty eighteen, and it probably predates that. Like
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: I know, people have done some studies from you know,
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: the Kevin Falk fourth and two play on that shows
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: that Belichick has really become more conservative like since that
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: game in general. Yeah, but I think it's more to
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: me at least been more recently, doesn't play Payton Manning anymore. Yeah,
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: So around twenty eighteen something flipped with their decision making
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: and plus territory or an impota territory on fourth down,
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: where now they you're in and year out, are one
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: of the most conservative fourth down teams in the league,
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: either punting or kicking on fourth down and opponent territory
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: on pretty much every fourth down decision. But earlier in
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: the year, especially in that Baltimore game, they did go
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: for it on fourth down a couple of times. So
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: maybe what it really boils down to is Bill's trust
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: in the offense, in his trust in the quarterback, and
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: his more maybe stronger trust in the defense and in
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: the special teams to do their jobs versus the quarterback
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: doing his in the offense doing theirs. So hopefully as
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: Mac kind of matures here, that trust grows a little
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: bit that he will be more aggressive, but notoriously. And
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: it's funny because you look at all these charts that
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: kind of grade coaches in those situations, and quite frankly,
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: a lot of the coaches that are conservative or older coaches. Right,
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: it's Bill, it's Pete Carroll, Like it's like these are
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: the guys that are near the bottom. It was Bruce
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: Arians before that turned over in Tampa Bay. So I
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: do think that there is a difference there in terms of, Okay,
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: what Brandon Staley or Dan Campbell or some of these
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: younger coaches are willing to do versus what Bill is
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: willing to do on fourth down. And again, it comes
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: back to the underdog thing for me, like you're no
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: longer the favorite going into a lot of these games.
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: You're favorite against the Bears, but you're not going to
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: be favorite either time against Buffalo. You're not gonna be
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: favored most likely. You know in some of these other
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: games later on in the season. You know, I don't
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: know Arizona see how they do, or Vegas, but I
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: don't know if you're gonna be favorite in Vegas on
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: the road late in the season. Those games you have
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: to approach a little bit differently, like the Eagles did
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: in Super Bowl fifty two, where you know, now you
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: are the Eagles, you are no longer the Patriots. You're
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: about the confidence in the offense or the defense. Because
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: I think you can make an argument if you don't
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: have a ton of faith in your defense, you're like
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: fourth and three from the opponent forty, Well, let's get
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: Jake to knock one out at the five and that
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: really helps the defense. Yeah, you know, right, you know,
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: if you really feel confident in the offense, like I
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: could totally hear it the other way. Like I think
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: the Tampa Bay one when they kicked the long field
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: goal was a lack of faith in the offense at
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: the time. I don't think he felt like they would
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: get it because they were miserable on third down that night,
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: and he was looking at that as why why am
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: I going to give them the ball here? You know
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: I have a chance to well, even the fourth and
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: two play that I gave the ball back to Peyton Manning,
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: that was the game's over. Yeah, I know he is,
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: you know, emphatically pushed back on that. But that's undeniable.
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: Of course it is. He knew that Peyton Manning gets
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: the ball back. We ain't stop whether it's whether they
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: punt it and it's sixty yards that way, or he's
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: got to figure it out. It's a little bit different
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: when you're talking about like you know, let's say the
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: thirty to the forty yard line, but when you're inside
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: the five, the whole idea, the whole analytics community is
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: so forgoing it in those situations because the other team
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: then has to drive the ball ninety eight yards. Right,
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: So then the idea is Lamart Jackson throws a pick
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: in the hand zone, right, So then the idea is
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: is that, you know, okay, you're giving them on a
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: long field, you get another quick three and out or
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: a quick stop. Now they're punting, and now you're right
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: right back on first. Right. That's the theory, right, That's
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: the sort of equation that they think of. It's like, okay, well,
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: if we do our job on defense, then even if
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: we don't get it, then we're going to get the
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: ball back first and ten from the forty eight yard line.
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: Let's call it, and we're right back in business. You know.
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: That's the idea of it. And I think that the
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: Patriots need to be more like that. I'm not saying
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: they need to be brand Stanley or Dan Campbell with it,
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: but I think they need to be more aggressive in
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: those situations. All Right, a couple of quick phone calls,
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: then we have to do picks quickly. Lewis and Rochester.
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: What's up, Lewis? Hey, how's it going? Um? I'm a
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: big fan of Bailey's appy. Okay, it makes it kind
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: of sad because I just bought a mac Jones jersey.
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: But well, I think there's something to be said though
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: about the Patriots starting with the ball. I think having
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: a much higher chance to win the game if they
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: received the first kickoff. Why. I don't know what you
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: guys think about that, but yeah, they didn't start with
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: the ball on Sunday. I just think they are dominant
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: on that first drive. Yeah, I'd like to do the study.
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: I think most teams are pretty good on that first drive.
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: I think they you know, yeah, well, I think the
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: Patriots have been really good on the first drive. But
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: I don't care if that's to start the game or
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: the second drive of the game, you know what I mean.
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: Like if they, like on Sunday, Cleveland got the ball first.
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: You just stopped them and it's your first drive, no
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: matter when you drove right down the field. Yeah, yeah, definitely,
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: and then you get the I like getting the ball
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: to get the double. I think it's such an advantage
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: mentally to know how that first half is and even
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: if you don't get the double score, which is bonus,
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: But like I think when there's like four minutes left
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: and a team knows the other team's getting the ball,
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: I think that puts pressure on you know, like we
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: got to score here because they're gonna get the ball
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: in right. I mean, and if you're getting the ball,
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: if you're in a bad situation, take the knee because
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: you know you're getting the ball to start the second half.
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: I just loved it when they got the thanks on
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: the first drive and it was like we got them
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: to stop them. We got an interception already in the game.
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: There's a great article if you google middle eight. It
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: just put that into google middle eight Belichick and you'll
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: get an article on USA football that I can't remember
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: who wrote it. I'm sorry, but yeah, four minutes before
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: four minutes, right, and that's the that's the theory. And
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: this goes back to Cleveland. Michael Lombardi's talked about them
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: kind of crafting this theory in Cleveland before. But not
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: only is it the four minutes, in four minutes of
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: actual game time, you're also keeping the other team's offense
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: off the field for real time as well, because you
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: got if you got the ball for the last four
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: minutes and a half, then you go into the locker
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: room for halftime for fifteen minutes and you have it
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: to start four minutes. You know, you were talking about
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: almost thirty minutes of real time plus of Peyton Manning,
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, you know, sitting on the bench,
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: and the idea is that you break the rhythm of
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: the opponent by doing it that way. Okay, William and
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: Philam what's up? He said, you know what, I'm gonna
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: forego Mike call because I know they've got picks and
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: they got to get going. So what is that time
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: of the week? Appropriate music this week? Paul? What did
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: we do last week? Oh? Just real quick thirty four
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: to nineteen in favor of Mac for the week. UM,
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: getting a lot a lot of attention to the pole.
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: Alex is chiming in on the slack channel, a lot
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: of people talking about the my lost pole, my little pole.
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: Smart listeners. We have, Yes, I would agree have one
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: of the only things we ever agreed on. Um, I'm
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: just kidding. So Week seven, we're entering week seven. Uh.
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: Here's the results from last week. Mike nine and five,
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: so uh, Alex and Paul eight and six, Evans seven
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: and seven, and Fred six and eight. I thought I
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: would did better than that. Yeah, I picked up would happened?
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: I thought? Didn't I pick the Jets? Thought thought he
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: laid a fought, but instead he didn't Jets. You picked
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: the Jets with the points, but you did pick it,
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: that's to win. I didn't know. I thought I did.
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: I thought that was my lock of the week. It
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: was not. For with the spread, no surprise here Paul
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: nine and five, followed by Mike seven and seven. Nope, sorry,
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: followed by Alex eight and six, then Mike at seven
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: and seven, Evan and Fred at six and eight. So
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: overall season standings, no surprise, fifty eight thirty five and one.
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: Paul leads the way, Mike fifty three forty and one,
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: only five games behind. Big season for Mike so far yeast,
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: and then Fred at fifty forty three and one. Ev
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: you're twenty nine and seventeen, not enough games to qualify.
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: You're like Bailey Zabby solid numbers. You have a six
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: thirty winning percentage. That's a solid number. Right in line
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: with the leaders, so you should be proud you can
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: hang out with me. Okay in the league and passer
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: eting right. Alex is thirty eight and twenty four six thirteen,
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: so she's a little bit behind Evan. You know among
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: those tomorrow, you're still seven eight and one because you
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: have participated since week one. She also hasn't heard the
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: practice on. So you get it. You get an incomplete
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: for the semester. All right, we gotta hurry with the spread.
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: Paul fifty five. We don't have to hurry this bias
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: this week fifty five thirty seven and two, well ahead
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: of the pack. Uh. Mike is next at forty six,
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: forty six and two. Uh Fred thirty five, fifty seven
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: and two. Wow, stop laughing at him, Stop laughing, Paul Parle. Uh.
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: Alex thirty thirty one and one, Evan twenty one, twenty
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: three and two. Yeah, four seventy eight. Not great, not
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: a great against the spread, and I'm knocking on the door.
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: Sixty percent through six weeks with the spread. That's really
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: I have an enormous fall those betting no one, No
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: one can maintain that I have an enormous fall At
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: USA dot com like as obnoxious as I come off
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: making these picks, it's that's such a fluke. And then
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: just nope, nobody can go sixty percent for any length
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: of time. You can put that on your resume except
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: Bill Belichick in real football games. Well he's more like
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: seventy five. Yeah, all right, that's that. That's the number
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: of pro football with Paul Parrello. Yeah, you don't want
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: to do that. Um, all right. Tonight eight fifteen, Prime Video,
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: the two and four Saints are at the two and
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: four Cardinals, Cardinals by two and a half and welcoming
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: DeAndre Hopkins back to looking him back and uh and
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: Robbie Anderson traps into the fold as well. I know
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: Arizona has been atrocious. Um, but you know what, I'm
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: gonna take them. I'm gonna take them at home and uh,
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: I will lay the points. Yeah, I'm also gonna take
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: Arizona to both ways. Well, I just feel like they
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: are getting Hopkins back, and I think a lot of
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: these young quarterbacks, it just changes everything when you have
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: your Binkie back, right, I mean he takes Stefon Diggs
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: from Josh Allen. You take you know, any of these
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: number one guys from a quarterback, and it often looks
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: like this, Tomarow, would you like to make picks or
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: are you just going to abstain and continue with your
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: incomplete for the semester. I think I'm just gonna complete
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: my incomplete. Okay, okay, I will take Arizona also, um
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: for a lot of the reasons that Evan't said. I
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: think Hopkins gives them a lift tonight. At least I'm
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: panking on that on my fantasy. I will take the Saints. Okay,
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: I will take the Saints. I think they've been despite
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: not having a quarterback and all their injuries, I think
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: they've been competitive and I give them credits. So I'm
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: gonna take the Saints one o'clock on Sunday. The two
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: and four Browns are at the three and three Ravens.
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: Ravens by six and a half, six and a half,
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: and we know what Miles Carrots status currently is. It
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: doesn't matter. I'm gonna take Baltimore. I'm gonna I'm very
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: rock like, it doesn't matter what you uh, Yeah, I'm
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: gonna te Baltimore all the points. I think they're good.
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: I'm with Mike Baltimore wins, Baltimore covers Cleveland is Brown disarray.
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: I will take Baltimore to win. However, I will take
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: the points in a divisional game. I think that's too
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: many points in one of these divisional matchups. Yeah, I'm
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: gonna take the Ravens both ways. The Patriots have given
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: the blueprint to the league for the Browns are one o'clock.
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: The three and three Buccaneers are at the one in five.
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: Panthers Bucks by ten and a half. Can the Bucks
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: score that many points? Man, if this was a couple
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: of weeks ago, I'd be taking Tampa and laying the points.
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: I'm still gonna take Tampa to win. However, I'm going
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: to take those points. I think it'll be a little
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: bit closer than ten. You little faith you, I agree
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: with Mike. I just don't think Tampa's in a position
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: right now to be a nine and a half point
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: favorite against a divisional opponent on the road. I will
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: take Tampa both ways. Carolina is in complete. It's more
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: of an anti Carolina pick than half support for the Tampa.
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: I was gonna say, I don't think the Panthers are
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: in a position to compete with anybody, so that's why
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: that point mark and despite the Buccaneers not playing well.
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: So I'll take the Bucks both ways. One o'clock, the
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: three and three Falcons are at the three and three Bengals.
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: Bengals buy six and a half. What a surprise from
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: Atlanta's disrespect to the Falcons. A little disrespect. Yeah, I'm
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: gonna take Sincy to win, but I'm going to take
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: the points. I think it'll be close. Marcus Mariotta's playing okay, Yeah,
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: I think I'm going to do the same thing. I
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: really like Atlanta's two headed moser and offense, Drake London,
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: Kyle Pitts. It's been good for them. Hopefully get CP
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: back eventually. I will take Cincinnati both ways. I think
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: the Bengals are very very close. I think they're right
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: on the edge of sort of fixing their early season. Malays, Yeah,
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: I'm taking the Bengals both ways. Wow, that's stunning. Yeah.
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: You never take sin I know, but I have to.
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: I have to. You don't like them, I have to
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: get better. Well, that's part of the reason why you're
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: in this hole is you only pick what you want
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: to happen instead of what you think. That's true, but
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: usually I'm good with defending you there because it usually
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: works for me. One o'clock the one bit pick. The
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: one and four Lions are at the four and two Cowboys.
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: Dallas by seven seven and Dak Dak is back. Dak
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: is back. Uh yeah, I think I think Detroit's done.
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: I'm gonna take Dallas. Um, but yeah, I don't know,
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: call me crazy. I'm gonna take the points for Detroit.
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: I think maybe they get they put up some points
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: in this one. Um, and maybe Dallas isn't quite ready
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: for get right back into it just yet. I like
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: Dallas both ways. Yeah, me too. I think that Dallas
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: defense will be a little upset after allowing that last
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: drive to Jalen Hurts last week. I think they win big.
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: I'm gonna go with the Cowboys both ways as well.
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: One o'clock five and one Giants are at the two
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: and four Jaguars. That feels so weird to hear that
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: Giants by three. Three? Um wow, old place, old place?
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: That is that Jacksonville by tax because I have minus
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: three but it just does don't make any sense to me.
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: But Jacksonville's favorite by three? Are they? Yeah? Jacksonville by three?
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: What what's going on? What are the Sharps know? They
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: don't believe in the Giants clearly, as Jim Donaldson would say, clearly,
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: clearly make that a for syllable. But I'm gonna go
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: with the Giants on the road in Florida. I'll take
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: the points. I'm gonna I'm gonna call it an upset,
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: even though Vegas doesn't think it's an upset. I'm taken
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: the Jaguars. I am wow. I think that I believe
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: in Vegas that the Giants are not for real. Like
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: I think this is going to catch up to them eventually,
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: like Daniel Jones is gonna be Daniel Jones at some point,
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: and the Jaguars defense has been good enough that it
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: could happen this week. I agree with everything Evan just said.
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: I don't believe in the Giants. I think they've had
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: one lucky thing after another happened every one of these games,
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: and they're finding a way. They're well coached, and they're fighting.
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: I don't think they're very good. However, I gotta take them. Yeah,
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: I'm gonna. I've I think I've lost every game that
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: I've picked them this year. When they lose I'll start
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: picking against them again. They have something going here. I'm
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: going to pick the Giant. I'm surprised with the spread.
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: It gives me an out because I was going to
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: pick the Jaguars both ways. But now I'll pick the
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: Jaguars to win. But I'll take the Giants to uh
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: but they won't cover. So this gives me an out
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: that I didn't expect. Um. One o'clock, the three two
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: and one Colts are at the three and two Titans,
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: which they get an indoor stadium in Nashville because they
- 1:46:30Speaker 1: want a super Bowl. I would think, right, I guess, yeah,
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: a good place for it. It's a great place for
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: a super Bowl. That that street will be like Bourbon Street.
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: It'll be won't even be able to move. Yeah, do
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: karaoke again by the time it gets there, though, Mike,
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: I'll be too old too. I'm already on the edge,
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: you know. Ten o'clock, but it's wid Yeah, will be
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: out with us. We went karaoke. U uh. Tennessee by
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: two and a half. Gotta get there good times. Um,
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: that's a tough one. And I'm a fan of Tennessee,
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: but I just feel like the wheels are falling off
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: the bus there. Uh, and so I think I'm gonna go.
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: I'm gonna go with Indie and Matt Ryan throwing on
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: the road. I'll take those points. The wheels on the
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: bus are falling. Derek Henry, you can't run no more.
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: That might be true. Derrick Henry is on on my
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: wash washed watch list five times fast. I can't. That's
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: why I stumbled on the first time. I say Max
- 1:47:32Speaker 1: that being said very slowly. I'm gonna take the Titans.
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: The Titans, says Evan. I will take Oh, I'm gonna
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: take the Colts. Don't really have any in depth reason
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: as to why. I do think they may have found
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: something last week with the past protection. They threw its
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: sixty two times and didn't get sacked at all. They
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: went a little bit tempo, and I think that helped
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: them a little bit. Jonathan Taylor sounds like he's close
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: to returning. Maybe they found some balance on all offense
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: with playing without him. I'll take the Colts. I don't
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: know why, but the Colts is starting to annoy me.
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: Cults are annoying friends. I don't know why. But who's
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: at eleven? Yeah, there's a shock the Coults are annoying.
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: You're annoying. They're annoying me A buck for every time
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: you said that since like oh one, Yeah, so I'm
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: gonna take the Titans to win this game. Why are
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: they annoying you? And I feel like that pick is
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: gonna bite you weird Paul Paul said that you're picking. Yeah,
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: he might have to do it. One o'clock, the three
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: and three Packers are at the two and four Commanders,
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: green Bay by four and a half, four and a half.
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: It just is I mean, oh, I just like to
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: say that, Taylor Haneke, Yeah, exactly. That changes things. That's
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: why I'll be taking the point. Yeah, yeah, I know
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: I tempted to take those points, but I'm still not
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: going to. I think Green Bay, as bad as they've looked,
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: I just can't pick the Commanders with a backup quarterback
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: I'm gonna take and wow, no faith in the backup. So.
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: I know that he had this finger in jury that's
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: causing him to miss a couple of games, but that
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: Thursday Night tape of Carson Wentz playing quarterback was the
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: worst quarterback tape I've seen all season. You can go
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: back and watch the Thursday night game or the Saturday
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: night game against the Patriots last year. Yeah, it was.
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: It was up there, same guy. I mean, guys five
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: yards away from him, open underneath the defense, and it's
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: it's rifled at their hands, you know, outside their frame,
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: and it's deflecting in the air. And it was. It
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: was horrible. But that being said, I think eventually green
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: Bay has to find a couple of wins here. So
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: I'm gonna take the Packers. I'm gonna take him to cover.
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: I just I like green Bay in this game. Yeah,
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: I agree about green Bay. I don't think they're very good.
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: I said that after the Patriots game. I still don't
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: think they're very good, but they're better than this. Yeah.
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: I think they'll they'll go on the road and at
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: least get a win here. But I'll take the four
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: and a half I'll take. I think Heineke gives them
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: a little bit of juice. I think he moves around
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: well and could cause some problems. I don't think he's
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: very good, but for a game or two, you can
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: cause your problems. Think they're better than they've been playing,
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: but after this game, we may not be so convinced
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: of that. But I'm gonna stick with him for one
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: more game. Packers cover four oh five. The four and
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: two Jets are at the two and four Broncos. Of
- 1:50:14Speaker 1: course the Broncos are home. Of course they are Denver
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: by one one. This is a Russell Wilson limited. This
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: is a game that could be in the negatives. Someone
- 1:50:24Speaker 1: could win this game like negative three to negative seven.
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: I think Russell's gonna be okay, at least that's what
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: he said. Um, this is just a spite pick. I'm
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: gonna take Denver. I feel like it's a pick them.
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: I'll take him, and I'll lay the point. I'm gonna
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: take the Jets. I can take the Jets on the road.
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: I think the one thing about the Jets that seems
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: legitimate is their defense, and the one thing that seems
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: legitimate about the Broncos at their offense sticks. So I'm
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: taking the Jets your offense legitimately. I think you could
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: say the same about both teams. I think both teams
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: have a legitimate defense and that both of their offenses
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: are struggling. I will take Denver here. I hope Evans right.
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: This is one of those talk radio things. I think
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: a five and two Jets game next week. We'd give
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: us a fun week to talk about that game. Four
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: and three Patriots at the five and two Jets. It's
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: a real game. It's a real game. Yeah. But I
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: also think that if both teams are four and three
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: going into next week, that's two, then the bloom's off.
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: The Jets rose and they are what we thought, but
- 1:51:19Speaker 1: now the Patriots have a chance to leap frog over them. Well,
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: just win the game and you'd be ahead of them
- 1:51:24Speaker 1: because of the correct Yeah. Yes, this is a tough checkers.
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: This is a tough like advanced analytics there. You just
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: I'd rather be down nine. Yeah, this is a tough one.
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: I'm gonna take the Broncos only because I want them
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: to win, but I was tempted to take the Jets. Yeah,
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: I just just to repeat, just to repeat, thirty five
- 1:51:48Speaker 1: fifty seven in two. I feel like this is one
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: of those like up moments. No, but to marry You
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: don't understand that what he does. But that's why we
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: beat him every year, and he has so many agenda.
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: Last years, I've had very good records, that's true. You
- 1:52:04Speaker 1: know you had a good record once. It's such a fraud,
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: such a fraud. Don't make me go and get my notebooks.
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: I have really good young cornerback matchup. Not that they
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: play against them one another, but do you think Sauce
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: good is pretty good? Probably two of the best young
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: quarters in the league. Sauce versus Trick certain certain is
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: I think probably the best young corner and he's really good,
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: unbelievable player. Yeah, all right, four or five? One, three
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: and one Texans. Jack Easterby no longer with us at
- 1:52:35Speaker 1: the one and four Raiders um Raiders by seven. Did
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: you happen to see Mount Mount Cooks had a pretty
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: good backing for Jack Easterby. Never been nothing but but
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: forthcoming with us and pleasure to deal with something. I
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: read the whole John mccle Really surprising that John McClinton
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: little fingers, he's bad news used to be. But Raiders
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: by seven, Raiders by seven. That is a one win
- 1:53:04Speaker 1: team favored by seven over probably the worst team in
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: the league. Maybe I gotta go with the fighting josh Is.
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: Give me the fighting Joshes and I'm gonna lay the points.
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: Big win for the Raiders. Let's go. Yeah, I think
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: the Raiders win, But that's too many points. So I'll
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: take the Raiders and I'll take Houston to cover. Yeah,
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: I have to admit that's what I thought when I
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: saw it. But I'm going to roll the dice and
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: lay the points. I think the Raiders coming off the
- 1:53:26Speaker 1: buy maybe get right John Well, yeah, to get right
- 1:53:30Speaker 1: game good good, Mike Sharp, the Sharks know something. Raiders
- 1:53:33Speaker 1: cover four twenty five. The three and three Seahawks are
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: at the four and two Chargers charges by six and
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: a half. Six and a half. That sounds about right. Um. Yeah,
- 1:53:45Speaker 1: I'm gonna go with Justin Herbert. I think they've kind
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: of overcome some of those injuries. They held the fort,
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: they're still you know now, I'm ever going to play again?
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: He said no this week, really never again. I'll never
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: play again. I'll lay the points, Paul, I'll take the
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: Charges and lay the points. Great quarterback matchup, the fighting
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: Genos versus Justin Herbert. I love it. I'm gonna take
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: the Chargers though. I think that Justin Herbert is quickly
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: climbing up that ranking of elite quarterbacks in this league.
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: Maybe haven't at like five or six right now. So
- 1:54:19Speaker 1: you're lay in the points too. Yeah, yeah, I agree
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: with you on Herbert, but there's something missing that I
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: can't figure out why he doesn't win more. Um. Yeah,
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: it's a good point. But I will take the Chargers
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: to win this game, and I will take the point
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: six and a half against the Chargers. They haven't. That's
- 1:54:34Speaker 1: another one of those teams, like you know, people just
- 1:54:36Speaker 1: like well you oh with your record, Like I don't
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: think they look like a four and two team. Yeah,
- 1:54:39Speaker 1: I'm gonna I'm I'm with you, Paul, Charges win, but
- 1:54:42Speaker 1: they do not cover four twenty five, four and two.
- 1:54:45Speaker 1: Chiefs are at the three and three forty nine Ers
- 1:54:48Speaker 1: screwed me last year week Chiefs by three. Wait who
- 1:54:51Speaker 1: super Bowl rematch here? Yeah? I got no beat on
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: the Niners. But I'm gonna go to Kansas City on
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: the road. Ray, Did you hear what I mean? Said that?
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: What super Bowl rematch? Yeah? Nineteen it's a rematch when
- 1:55:05Speaker 1: he says it, when his new little pet, Michael I said,
- 1:55:09Speaker 1: it's not a rematch? Really isn't. It's not the same players,
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: it's not a rematch. I get it. The new kid
- 1:55:16Speaker 1: gets away with anything I get. I'm giving him. I'll
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: give him a season and then and then yes please,
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: I like Casey to bounce back from last week. So yeah,
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: I like yeah. Is San Francisco still missing all those
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: defensive players? Do you see that that they had? They
- 1:55:33Speaker 1: had ten of their projected starters not play last week
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: in that game on defense? Um, I think they were
- 1:55:39Speaker 1: playing the Patriots, right, I will say yeah? I mean,
- 1:55:42Speaker 1: am I right? Kansas City both ways? I think it's
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: INCREDI Kansas City both ways is correct? Um? I love
- 1:55:48Speaker 1: when Frank gives you the stand provement. Eight twenty Sunday
- 1:55:52Speaker 1: night on every three. Uh, the two and four Steelers
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: are at the three and three Dolphins. Uh, two is back.
- 1:56:01Speaker 1: I don't know how long that will last. I have
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: some concerns Miami by seven seven, Um, if he's okay, Yeah,
- 1:56:09Speaker 1: I think Miami could make it a little bit of
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: a run me too. I'm gonna go with Miami and
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: how many. I'm gonna drop some points too, I'm gonna yeah,
- 1:56:16Speaker 1: I'm gonna lay him. I'm with Yeah, I'm with Miami
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: both ways. Yeah. I'm gonna bank on two of being
- 1:56:22Speaker 1: able to make it through this game, and if he does,
- 1:56:24Speaker 1: I think they'll cover. I AMMI both ways trending for
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: a perfect week for me. Um, I'm I'm gonna go
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: with the Dolphins, but they do not cover. They do
- 1:56:35Speaker 1: not cover. All right, Monday Night, have a Spike pick there.
- 1:56:38Speaker 1: We don't have to skip over the Patriots because they're
- 1:56:41Speaker 1: the only show in town on Monday. The two and
- 1:56:44Speaker 1: four Bears are here in Foxborough against the three and
- 1:56:47Speaker 1: three Patriots. Okay, I do not have the latest numbers
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: that you guys are talking about. I have Patriots by
- 1:56:53Speaker 1: seven and a half, which is what it was on Sunday,
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: So all right, every day I've seen seven and a
- 1:56:57Speaker 1: half could be fourteen and a half and I'd still
- 1:56:59Speaker 1: take the Yeah. No, but I mean I think it
- 1:57:01Speaker 1: was like nine or something, So I see, we'll go
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: af I'm I'm all Patriots on this one. Paul randomly
- 1:57:10Speaker 1: came up with the same score before the TV shows out.
- 1:57:12Speaker 1: I'm gonna stick with that, twenty seven six. I think
- 1:57:15Speaker 1: Patriots have a uh they don't let justin fields and
- 1:57:20Speaker 1: that offense too much. Twenty seven six. So sneak preview
- 1:57:24Speaker 1: and our expert picks. I took twenty four to seven
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: Patriots because my prediction was Bailey, No, was that maybe
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: Mac has some rust in the first half. It takes
- 1:57:33Speaker 1: some a couple of drives to get back in rhythm
- 1:57:36Speaker 1: and uh, and they rolled a second half. But on paper,
- 1:57:40Speaker 1: this should be like forty five to seven, right, Like
- 1:57:43Speaker 1: this should be an absolute party at Gilatte Stadium on
- 1:57:46Speaker 1: Monday night on paper. And I think it would be
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: cool if that is the case and Mac goes out
- 1:57:51Speaker 1: there and throws four tds and three hundred yards and
- 1:57:55Speaker 1: everybody forgets about Zappie Fever. But I don't know if
- 1:57:58Speaker 1: that one never be here. Man, I love it. I
- 1:58:02Speaker 1: love it, mack Man. It's gonna be a lot of
- 1:58:04Speaker 1: a lot of fair Weather fans. Oh yeah, we would
- 1:58:07Speaker 1: be all along, Mac, we had you back. There's gonna
- 1:58:09Speaker 1: be some split like jersey slash t shirts with like oh,
- 1:58:15Speaker 1: I got to talk to Stacey about the Zappy jerseys.
- 1:58:17Speaker 1: Did you hear about that yesterday? Now, I will take
- 1:58:19Speaker 1: the Patriots big in this. Mike already said that I
- 1:58:21Speaker 1: had and I had the same score twenty seven to six.
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: I don't see any way that Chicago has to keep
- 1:58:28Speaker 1: up offensively even if the Patriots don't play, even if
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: there is rust. I have a prediction by I can't
- 1:58:33Speaker 1: move by Monday night, that spread's gonna be eleven because
- 1:58:37Speaker 1: the New England money is just gonna keep coming in
- 1:58:39Speaker 1: and they're gonna need to get even and out. It's
- 1:58:42Speaker 1: gonna be hard. Uh yeah, Patriots both ways. So that's
- 1:58:47Speaker 1: it for this edition of Patriots and scrambled down or
- 1:58:49Speaker 1: right down? Fritz pick I didn't know what he was. Yeah,
- 1:58:52Speaker 1: I just want shut up. I just want to remind
