- 0:01We are constantly surrounded by miracles in the sense that our
- 0:06lives are filled with activities, events, processes
- 0:11and circumstances that we clearly do not understand but
- 0:16accept based on some explanation, assuming that
- 0:20someone knows what it's all about.
- 0:23Airplanes flying through the air, rockets traveling to outer
- 0:27space and visiting the moon, wireless communication anywhere
- 0:31in the world, wireless electric charging, and all the myriad
- 0:36inventions that we take for granted in the modern world.
- 0:41Who really knows what powers are at work to make these things
- 0:44happen? We can harness energies, but can
- 0:48we truly appreciate how these things are even possible?
- 0:54We were travelling once from India to the United States and
- 0:57took an escalator down to a baggage claim area.
- 1:01We looked up and saw a young man standing at the top of the
- 1:04escalator. Apparently seeing one for the
- 1:07first time in his life and unable to comprehend what this
- 1:11was, how it worked, and how he should interact with it, we went
- 1:17back up, held his hand and helped him down the escalator.
- 1:22It turns out he was a young villager from India who was
- 1:25travelling on an airplane for the very first time and had
- 1:29never been inside a modern airport previously.
- 1:33To him, this whole thing was a mystifying and miraculous
- 1:37situation. The very processes of life, the
- 1:42organization of birth, growth and death.
- 1:46The genetic code embedded in every living being, the atomic
- 1:50structure of all material elements.
- 1:53These are also all miraculous things which we tend to overlook
- 1:58as we explain the science of it all to ourselves.
- 2:04The functioning of our senses and the powers of the mind.
- 2:07The power of creativity, the power of intuition, the power of
- 2:12instinct, All of these represent other powers that we do not
- 2:16fully understand but tend to take for granted.
- 2:21Why then should we find it so mysterious that there are also
- 2:26laws of cause and effect, the law of karma, the process of
- 2:31soul growth and development, and that there are powers that
- 2:35direct, guide and oversee this entire creation, including the
- 2:40evolution of consciousness? If all of these miraculous
- 2:44things surround us everywhere in our lives, why do we find it so
- 2:49difficult to understand that just as there are material
- 2:53forces at work, they are also vital mental and spiritual
- 2:58forces at work in their own various ways, accomplishing
- 3:03their own form of result? The Mother observes Quote.
- 3:09But even from the purely material point of view, you are
- 3:12used to certain things. They have been explained to you,
- 3:16for example, electric light, or that it is enough to press a
- 3:20button to start a car. You can explain it, you've been
- 3:25told why, and so it seems absolutely natural to you.
- 3:30But I had instances of people who did not know, who were
- 3:34completely ignorant, who came from a place where these things
- 3:37had not yet penetrated, and who were suddenly shown a statue
- 3:43being lighted up by rays of light.
- 3:46They fell on their knees in adoration.
- 3:49It was a divine manifestation. And I have seen someone else who
- 3:53was in the same state. It was a child who knew nothing.
- 3:57In front of him a button was pressed and the car started.
- 4:01It seemed a tremendous miracle to him.
- 4:04Well, it is like that. You are used to certain things.
- 4:09They seem absolutely natural to you.
- 4:12If you were not used to them, you would see you would think
- 4:16them miracles. Well, turn over the problem.
- 4:22There is a heap of things you cannot explain to yourself.
- 4:26There is a host of interventions which change the course of
- 4:29circumstances and which you don't even notice.
- 4:33And so everything seems to you ordinary, monotonous and without
- 4:38any particular interest. But if you had the knowledge and
- 4:43could see that all these things which seem absolutely normal to
- 4:47you because you are used to them and have not even asked yourself
- 4:52how does this happen in this way?
- 4:55If you had the knowledge and saw how it happens, what it is that
- 5:01acts, Why, for example, someone who acts so imprudently that he
- 5:06would have broken his head does not break it.
- 5:09Why everything seems arranged for a frightful accident to take
- 5:13place and it does not occur. And thousands, millions of
- 5:18things like that which happened every day and everywhere.
- 5:23If you had enough knowledge to see why it is like that, then at
- 5:28the same time you could say, look, there is something like a
- 5:33force, a consciousness, a power which acts and which is not from
- 5:40the material domain. Materially, logically, this is
- 5:46what should have happened, and it did not happen.
- 5:49You say, ah, it was his good luck, don't you?
- 5:53And then you're satisfied. It's all right for you.
- 5:58Silence. It is the ignorant, limited
- 6:04egoistic consciousness which demands miracles.
- 6:08As soon as one is enlightened, one knows that everywhere and
- 6:11always there is miracle. And the more faith one has in
- 6:17this miracle and this grace, the more capable one becomes of
- 6:21seeing it or perceiving it constantly at every place where
- 6:26it is. It is ignorance and lack of
- 6:29faith. It is blind egoism which
- 6:33prevents one from seeing. End Quote Reference Sri
