- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the three O take where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now, who Welcome back to the three O 10%
- 0:17by Chinook. Cedry, This is episode 594.
- 0:20I'll be your host, Kyle Corn. I'm here with my Co host Nate
- 0:23Reyes. Nate.
- 0:27Casey, how are we, Bud? We're down a man.
- 0:30Down a man. We're down a man JB in the
- 0:32corner took a sick day. Take a.
- 0:36Sick day. Probably just opening cards
- 0:39truthfully. Yeah, dude, just licking his
- 0:41fingers trying to RIP those packages open.
- 0:44Probably just didn't want to be bothered but honestly it's great
- 0:48because we can literally say whatever we want.
- 0:51Like like the like the old days true dude.
- 0:54And not no fact checks and not be checked whatsoever.
- 0:58It's kind of a freeing feeling. I'm back.
- 1:01Yeah, Nathan is. This is his.
- 1:04His right drive this. Is his true environment right
- 1:07here so this will be fun but we're we miss we miss Josh in
- 1:12the corner. Hopefully he gets back soon.
- 1:16But yeah, this will be, I would say, next man up.
- 1:19But it's just, it's just us. Just us.
- 1:22Yeah, throwing it back. Just kind of throwing it back a
- 1:25little bit. I've got I've got something I
- 1:27got to get off my chest. And right off the top, OK, yeah.
- 1:29Let's hear I need I need to know if this is you've seen those
- 1:35like those like Instagram or TikTok guys that are like gas or
- 1:40pass like is like they go to a restaurant, like try it and
- 1:43they'll tell you. Have you ever seen one of those
- 1:46where it's passed? I feel like it's gas every time.
- 1:48Maybe it's every time. OK, fair enough.
- 1:51In more ways than one. But my my question is I brought
- 1:56this up with my wife. She was a hard pass but I need
- 2:01to know if I'm crazy or not OK I had a dream the other night that
- 2:07I was grilling. It's growing a whole bunch of
- 2:10stuff, just veggies and and different meats and all this
- 2:14kind of stuff, right? But one of the things I was
- 2:17grilling and I need to know if I need to go to Shark Tank with
- 2:22this super thin hot dogs, like like the size of like asparagus,
- 2:34but they're hot dogs. It's like a straw, like a hot
- 2:37dog. Like a straw but made of hot dog
- 2:39basically. Yeah, and I was making like 20
- 2:42of them, just flipping those suckers around, rolling them
- 2:46out, and they looked. What do you mean rolling them
- 2:50out like? Where you just roll them on the
- 2:52grill, you get a little spatula in your.
- 2:54Roll No, no, no, I hear you. But how did you get them to that
- 2:57state to begin with? Are you just, do you just have
- 2:59like ground up hot dog? No, they were.
- 3:02They were just, they were that way in my dream.
- 3:05Oh, right, right. This is a dream.
- 3:09I I think I blocked that part out and I thought you were
- 3:13actually grilling these things. OK, so this is your dream.
- 3:16So like thin hot dog rods, basically thin as asparagus?
- 3:21Right. Like that's the it's, you know,
- 3:23like a longer than like a normal hot dog, but very thin.
- 3:26It's almost like a hot dog fry. Almost.
- 3:28You could kind of pitch it into it's like a, like a shoestring
- 3:31hot dog. Shoestring hot dog, you know.
- 3:35Yeah, those would be crispy, but I think it could.
- 3:37I think it could pass. I feel like it could work.
- 3:40And she I mean I. Pass in a good way, but.
- 3:43I told her it's at, you know, 7:30 in the morning, probably
- 3:46not the right time to deliver it, but I was like, you know,
- 3:48maybe we've got something here. Yeah, I don't think Shoestring
- 3:51Hot Dog is the right play to pitch at 7:30 in the morning,
- 3:57but. It was fresh on my mind.
- 3:58I never remember my dreams, so I was like, I need to tell
- 4:01somebody about this now. Fair.
- 4:04That's how that goes. You got to you got to get those
- 4:05dreams out out recorded before you forget No, count me in as as
- 4:10as gas. I think that would I would try
- 4:12it. I think yeah, absolutely.
- 4:14Whether I continue to to purchase slash consume, it's up
- 4:18for debate, but I I would. Most certainly.
- 4:20Try it. Yeah, yeah.
- 4:24They made chicken fries, but they called them crazy.
- 4:27You know, the creators at Burger King, there's probably a couple
- 4:32of people at that table that were like, what?
- 4:34Those things are unreal and they're fantastic.
- 4:38Speaking of fantastic, you know what?
- 4:39You know what's fantastic, Nate? A nice dose of nostalgia.
- 4:49You know where I'm going with this.
- 4:50I think you know where I'm going with this.
- 4:52I think so. Justin Verlander coming home to
- 4:56the Tigers. This just felt right.
- 4:59I'll be honest with you. And look, I put the whole, I
- 5:03know, I know people have their thoughts on Justin Verlander as
- 5:09it relates to this, the Houston scandal.
- 5:12And he had some comments following that thing.
- 5:15And I know that I know that Cloud has followed him around
- 5:18ever so lightly, maybe not as strongly as some of the position
- 5:21players that were directly benefiting from said scandal,
- 5:25but he was certainly involved. He was, he was part of the mix
- 5:28there, benefited from it. But I kind of, you know, I, I
- 5:36set that aside, I'm like, I, I can look past that and I can
- 5:42just celebrate and acknowledge the fact that him coming home is
- 5:45kind of cool because you don't, you don't get this.
- 5:48You don't get this every day, especially with a player with
- 5:50his resume. Yeah, I don't know why.
- 5:54For me personally, the scandal stuff doesn't even like I He's
- 5:57not a name that flashes in my head.
- 5:59He had a couple that's fair. And honestly, it rarely or like
- 6:04it barely does for me, but he I, I do recall and I think we even
- 6:08talked about on here like years ago at this point, but he, he
- 6:11had a couple sound bites or a couple couple quotes after the
- 6:14fact where it was like putting your foot in your mouth a little
- 6:18bit. And I think it and the fact that
- 6:20he's simply associated with that team, I think carries a little
- 6:25bit of a stink to him for people.
- 6:27But I mean, I get it. I don't blame people.
- 6:29I just personally, I don't know, just doesn't really come to
- 6:31mind. But I like this.
- 6:34I mean, I feel like the Tigers have like turned a corner and
- 6:40they're like they're trying to do something.
- 6:42And I think you could kind of spin this.
- 6:48I think it kind of seems like a retirement tour.
- 6:52Opportunity, right? Are we just going to put that
- 6:54out there? Are we are we going to get that
- 6:56out in the open? Is is it?
- 6:57Are we? Are we just we break that news?
- 7:00Are we writing in Sharpie that this is Justin Verlander's final
- 7:04season? I think it depends on his
- 7:09success. I think if he does well, it's
- 7:13done. Should be done.
- 7:16But on the flip side, it if he does poorly, is he the type of
- 7:20guy that's going to want to end on a high note or is he going to
- 7:22be like, I'm I'm washed? I think, I think he's going to
- 7:25end on a high note. I think he does.
- 7:27I think he does. Well, I feel like this would
- 7:30have to be the year to do it because it's not.
- 7:32You're not going to, you're going the age wise, you're going
- 7:34the wrong direction to be able to bounce back.
- 7:37Right, right. Getting older is not favorable
- 7:41typically in most scenarios. That's what's coming for you
- 7:45when you get older. The whole I'm trying to figure
- 7:52the Tigers out, you know, as you do with.
- 7:55Most teams, I feel like that's that's Nate with most teams.
- 7:59Really, I'm just trying to fence.
- 8:03I'm on, I'm on the fence. What is Nate on the fence about,
- 8:06truthfully? It's a good point.
- 8:08It's a good point. Shoe, string, hot dogs, I'm all.
- 8:11In, you're all in on that. I, I respect the play.
- 8:18I don't know what to say, man. I don't know what the rotation
- 8:20look like. What's to figure out?
- 8:21I I'll be honest with you, I really like the Tigers going
- 8:24into 2026 and I don't think that's that hot of a take.
- 8:27That rotation that you mentioned.
- 8:29As of right now, you're looking at the Tiger, but not for long.
- 8:34Terek Scubal holding it down up top and then in the two slot you
- 8:39got for Amber Valdez, Jack Flaherty, Justin Verlander and
- 8:42Casey Mize. I really like that rotation.
- 8:46That's not bad. That's not bad.
- 8:49And I've been, I, I mentioned it, I think even was it last
- 8:54episode where whenever, Yeah, I, I was talking to Casey Mize.
- 8:59I'm like, I've been pulling. I've really been rooting for
- 9:01this kid. Like I want him to be.
- 9:02I want him to do well. And maybe the, I'm, I'm not
- 9:06saying it's a guarantee, but maybe bringing in a guy like, I
- 9:09mean, certainly it helps to have Tarek Skubal in your, in your,
- 9:13you know, hanging around him all the time.
- 9:16I'm sure you can glean some, some knowledge from him.
- 9:19But a guy like Justin Verlander, even as good as Tarek Schuble
- 9:22has been, Justin Verlander's resume and legacy speaks for
- 9:25itself. So bring it.
- 9:26Maybe bringing him into the clubhouse will be just another
- 9:30voice that a guy like Casey Maas can benefit from.
- 9:32So All in all, rotation wise, I'm I'm a big fan.
- 9:35And even then for, you know, like a Jack Flaherty, like I, I
- 9:38think there's. Good point.
- 9:41There's things that you know, to learn as you're like, you're
- 9:43past the the young 20s and like I can, I can just like solely
- 9:48rely on my my physical talent. Now your brain is developed and
- 9:52you're starting to, you know, kind of see the game differently
- 9:55there. I think there's like a a new
- 9:57level that can be reached, but it's tough, man, like Casey
- 10:00mice. It's like you got like that
- 10:03pressure being the number one pick and everyone's like, oh,
- 10:06you're you're going to be the ace, you're going to be the face
- 10:08of the franchise. And it's like that just doesn't
- 10:11pan out that way most of the time.
- 10:12So like, I think we can just be happy and accepting the fact
- 10:15that he's like A345 starter and you know, maybe there's more to
- 10:20come. I don't know, But I do like the
- 10:23rotation. I do like the rotation.
- 10:25I the the Tarek Schuble stuff is just scary, dude.
- 10:29Like it, it scares me. It scares me that it's like
- 10:32being so mismanaged in a way that like, you don't know what's
- 10:36going to happen if they have a really slow, rough start.
- 10:40Like, does he get traded before the deadline?
- 10:43Do they mismanage this and like, hold on to him and, you know,
- 10:49try and make a run? Like, I don't know.
- 10:50I don't know. He's not going to be I, I, we
- 10:55don't know. We as in the baseball community
- 10:58don't know exactly how it's going to go down.
- 11:00But I think we at the very least know that he's not going to be a
- 11:03Tiger for long. And I think we've known that to
- 11:05be the case for some time just because what made you think that
- 11:12they were going to really go for it with Scubble regarding a
- 11:17contract? And I think the way that this
- 11:19arbitration process went, I think it's only muddy the water
- 11:23or yeah, muddy the water that much more.
- 11:26And I just like if if you've got your back-to-back Cy Young
- 11:32winner, Ace bringing his Cy Young awards to the arbitration
- 11:36hearing as evidence, I just don't know how that relationship
- 11:44can, I don't want to say recover, but I just don't know
- 11:47how that that blossoms into a long term extension, you know?
- 11:53Especially we got like a snake on your shoulder just whispering
- 11:57into your ear of Scott Boris. Dude, that guy is just so worse.
- 12:02I just, I don't think, you know, I, I love what the Tigers have
- 12:06been able to do as of late, just organizationally, but I just
- 12:10don't see them ponying up what. What's going to be needed?
- 12:13I get that. But like what I'm saying is that
- 12:15like do they, what if? Because right now, if you look
- 12:18at the situation, they kind of look like they could go for it
- 12:22this year especially. In a position in an AL.
- 12:27What if they're in a real good spot and they're like, let's,
- 12:30let's buy? Well, we kind of saw that this
- 12:33year. And then you're not moving
- 12:35Scubal and then you're not recouping anything.
- 12:38It's just gone. I don't know.
- 12:41I don't know, man. It's a strange spot.
- 12:48Think they still got to get some some some hitters though, don't
- 12:51they? Line up wise, the projection
- 12:56that I'm looking at Scott Colt, Keith Glaber Torres, Carrie
- 13:00Carpenter, Riley Green, Spencer Torkelson, Wenzel Perez, Zach
- 13:03Mckinstry, Dylan Dingler, Parker Meadows.
- 13:07Yeah, I need a couple bats getting late, yeah.
- 13:14I agree with you, but I, I mean, I know, I, I know I prefaced all
- 13:17this by saying I'm I like where the tigers are AT and all that,
- 13:20but I, I agree with you. It could certainly benefit from
- 13:24a little bit of pop, especially in that park.
- 13:25But yeah, and as cool as it was to see Spencer Torkelson have
- 13:34his moment a little bit, can you really count on that?
- 13:38Yeah, I don't know. I mean, I'm saying the only
- 13:40truth there in there for me is, is Riley Green.
- 13:44I think Carrie Carpenter's come in, but he he hasn't, you know,
- 13:49really broke out yet. Yeah, they need some sticks,
- 13:52dude. I don't know how or when, but
- 13:57they need it. Anyway, back to the retirement
- 14:00tour thing. I do you are we just like done
- 14:03with like the gifts before first pitch, like the other teams
- 14:08giving you cool stuff? Who was the last guy?
- 14:11Who was the last guy we we saw do that?
- 14:15Pools. Was that 20 I?
- 14:21Don't remember him getting that that many.
- 14:24I remember Miggy getting a lot. Miggy yeah, no, I mean, pools
- 14:27definitely got got some things for sure, maybe not as much, but
- 14:35he he no, he had announced before that year, right before
- 14:39the before the season started. Pools, I thought he did that.
- 14:44That obviously plays a big, a big factor.
- 14:46But to your point, maybe, maybe Verlander's the type of guy that
- 14:49would want to go out on a high note.
- 14:50And so maybe he wouldn't, he wouldn't necessarily make that
- 14:52announcement until after the fact.
- 14:54So, yeah, but I'm sure, I'm sure everybody's thinking it,
- 14:59including him. But he did say, didn't he say he
- 15:02wants to pitch till at least through his age 45 season, which
- 15:06I've said before, if there's a guy that could do it, at least
- 15:09in today's game, it would be him.
- 15:11Whether or not that ends up happening, whether performance
- 15:14or for whatever other reason. But he'd be the guy to do it, I
- 15:19guess. What's your gut say?
- 15:23Done after this year or no? Yeah, yeah.
- 15:25Done well what is it he's couple milestones away, isn't he isn't
- 15:29there some big milestones coming up he's. 8th all time in career
- 15:36strikeouts and he's I think right behind.
- 15:39He's knocking on the door of 7th, tied with Bob Feller and
- 15:45EPA Rixie for 34th. Oh, EPA.
- 15:49In wins, did I say that He's got 266 wins for those that keep
- 15:56track of that. It's over 3500 innings, 3500
- 16:07strikeouts. I mean, he's not.
- 16:09It's not like it's any big milestone.
- 16:11I guess that's within reach. Yeah, I mean, he's pretty much
- 16:16he's he's etched his he has long since etched his resume.
- 16:21At this point, he's just climbing the ranks.
- 16:23I will. Say, though, throw a little
- 16:27respect on him. He made 29 starts last year.
- 16:31Yeah, it wasn't. It was last year.
- 16:32He was like, he was like 52 innings O and eight over his
- 16:37first like 1516 starts I think. Finished year 4 and 11, but
- 16:41that's besides the point. 150 innings.
- 16:47He he pitched to a pitched to a tune of 196 in his last seven
- 16:51games. That's what I'm saying, man.
- 16:55There's still something left in the tank.
- 16:57Yeah, yeah, yeah, sure. But Nate says he's all done
- 17:03after this year, so must not matter.
- 17:05My foot's not down yet. It's still open here.
- 17:08I'm on the fence. You're on the fence yeah yeah,
- 17:10for sure no, no, no doubt, no doubt, no doubt.
- 17:14Speaking about being on the fence, the Red Sox love sitting
- 17:18on the fence. They won't commit it, I feel
- 17:20like to a rebuild or going all in.
- 17:22They're just like, yeah, let's, Let's patch together this puzzle
- 17:25with pieces from. I'm sensing unhappiness. 5 or 6
- 17:30different puzzles. Sensing frustration.
- 17:32No, like on paper I like the team, On paper I like Caleb
- 17:38Durbin. Seems like everybody else is
- 17:40more excited about this than I am.
- 17:42Not to say that I'm not. But I like Caleb Durbin.
- 17:45I like Caleb Durbin, but it's more about what we were
- 17:51expecting. And people can say, man, Red Sox
- 17:53fans are so spoiled. And sure, that may be true to to
- 17:55an extent. However, when you have a front
- 17:59office, I feel like the difference between the front
- 18:03office of a team like the Red Sox and a team and the front
- 18:06office of a team whose fans complain about Red Sox fans.
- 18:11Like you guys are so spoiled. You don't, you don't know what
- 18:14it's like to suck. It's like, no, your front office
- 18:20is just saying like, yeah, we're going to do what we can.
- 18:23Like, you know, we're we're going to roll out as as
- 18:25competitive A-Team as we can, even though you know in your
- 18:27heart of hearts that they don't mean anything.
- 18:29But with the Red Sox, historically, that has been the
- 18:33MO. Like we are going to pay like up
- 18:36there with the Yankees, up there with the Dodgers, Like we are
- 18:38going to spend the money. We're going to get the star
- 18:40player. If we say we're going to roll
- 18:43out a top three team in baseball, we're going to roll
- 18:47out a top three team in baseball, they've the difference
- 18:50is now they're talking that way, promising big bats, big arms
- 18:57while they're tiptoeing. They're not.
- 19:00They're not going all in. And it's really frustrating
- 19:02because it's like, stop talking as if you're going to make these
- 19:06big moves. And then you bring in a guy like
- 19:10Caleb Durbin when everybody was expecting the infielder that was
- 19:13going to be taking the field Opening Day was Alex Bregman.
- 19:18So, you know, I know if you look at the moves in their entirety,
- 19:23it's a different story. But it's just, it's, it's when
- 19:27you look at the fact that it was Raphael Devers as well as Alex
- 19:33Bregman, and now you're left with what?
- 19:37So that's why it's hard for me. It's why it's hard for me to to
- 19:41get super excited. But in a vacuum, I like the
- 19:45Caleb Durbin trade, six player trade with the Brewers for the
- 19:49Red Sox. They also sent into Milwaukee a
- 19:51guy that I think I mentioned an episode or two ago that I was
- 19:54looking forward to watching Kyle Harrison heading to Milwaukee as
- 19:59well as some other names there in the mix.
- 20:01But obviously the highlight here is Caleb Durbin.
- 20:03And so All in all, I'm here's the thing.
- 20:10I'm never going to be mad about having an athletic.
- 20:17High contact rate, manufacturing runs type of team.
- 20:23However, as I've sort of alluded to, the Red Sox don't have to be
- 20:28that team because they're the Boston Red Sox.
- 20:31It's like I don't, I shouldn't have to be satisfied with what's
- 20:34out there because there's no excuse, no reason as to why more
- 20:38money shouldn't be going out or more, more, more of an effort
- 20:42shouldn't be made in the trade market because this is not the
- 20:46roster that exists now. The lineup that exists now
- 20:49that's presumably set for opening day is not
- 20:53representative of the Boston organization, market and
- 21:00stature. Boom, sure, sure.
- 21:05I hear you. I I don't know what to make of
- 21:15them either. I was like they're I, I feel
- 21:18like I'm kind of nervous because I feel like they are going to
- 21:21have a, a, a solid team. I think this is a 90 win team
- 21:27easily. Pitching has definitely
- 21:31improved, which I'm excited about.
- 21:33But yeah, this historically has been a team.
- 21:35And not to cut you off, but this is historically has been a team
- 21:38that is one of the top offenses in baseball.
- 21:41And I just don't know that that's going to be the case this
- 21:43year, which really stinks, but. Yeah, I don't know, man.
- 21:47I mean, it's just, I get what you're saying because like when
- 21:50you look at that team on paper, you're like, yeah, I mean, it's
- 21:53it's going to be solid. But then you look at like how
- 21:57deep the AL East is, It's like that it's.
- 22:01It's hard to say that this offseason for the Red Sox is
- 22:08able to compete with a Blue Jays team, that it seems to be
- 22:11gaining momentum and making moves in a positive direction.
- 22:14I don't know, whatever the the Fenway group, FSG, aren't they
- 22:25working on a little something, something to mimic the battery
- 22:32isn't they've got like obviously there's there's streets that
- 22:37close during games and like you kind of already get that vibe
- 22:40around Fenway, but I think that there's like an active.
- 22:43They've got the, they've got The MGM Music Hall at Fenway and
- 22:49that's already there, I think I, yeah, I saw it when I was there.
- 22:53It's been there for a little while, I think, but yeah, 2022,
- 22:56So it's been there for a few years.
- 22:58I think that was one of, if not the first steps in that
- 23:02direction, to be quite honest with you.
- 23:04I, I, I'm not entirely sure, but I, I do know what you're
- 23:07referring to that I think there's something like that in
- 23:11play. However, it's just difficult
- 23:12with the the land, or lack thereof, that exists in that.
- 23:16I know there's like. In that proximity, I.
- 23:19Don't know what direction it is, but if you were to go like
- 23:22straight out right field and there's like some homes back
- 23:28there and stuff like those townhomes like.
- 23:30Yeah, it's, I mean, it's literally like people, I, I
- 23:32think people hear that and they're like, Oh yeah, sure.
- 23:34Like, yeah, it's like, no, it is literally dropped into the
- 23:38middle of a neighborhood. Yeah, it's just interesting.
- 23:42And like I know we talked about how they can and have operated
- 23:46like some of these other bigger markets, some of the biggest
- 23:50markets. And it's weird because this guy
- 23:55just went there like you know, Bregman that you just mentioned.
- 23:58But like, it kind of feels like the Cubs teeter the edge a
- 24:04little. You know, I mean, they kind of
- 24:05teeter totter back and forth between that like, hey, we're
- 24:08we're big market, we're Chicago. And then all of a sudden they
- 24:11kind of get budgetary in ways. Then then they get creative with
- 24:16their roster. And it seems to me like the Red
- 24:19Sox are starting to like slide into that category with the
- 24:23Cubs, You know, and that's what made me curious.
- 24:28You know, you talk about like some of these owners that are
- 24:31trying to change the environment around their stadium.
- 24:34They're trying to create this, you know, spend the day here,
- 24:39type. Thing and it just made me.
- 24:40Wonder if like if the Fenway group was trying to do something
- 24:43similar. Are they are they maybe pushing
- 24:48that and trying to save a little bit where they can as far as
- 24:52payroll goes? You do have a lot of
- 24:54controllable names too. Like you have a lot of young
- 24:56names that are that are controllable that are we're
- 24:59going to be pretty good. I think it's.
- 25:02Yeah, but look at the look at the track record of, of names
- 25:05that were young and controllable and look where and, and stars
- 25:08even and look, look where they're at now.
- 25:11So it's like a guy like Roman Anthony, despite having an an
- 25:14extension, it's like what? What assurance do you have that
- 25:20he's actually going to be there? Yeah, that's true.
- 25:24Doesn't really mean much around those parts.
- 25:27That also finishes out the the Devers trade with Kyle Harrison
- 25:32getting removed as well, right? I think so, which whatever, like
- 25:36I, I'm, I don't, I don't care like at this point.
- 25:40It is. I think you care a little bit.
- 25:41I think you care a little. Bit no, I really don't like,
- 25:44it's the same thing with the Mookie trade.
- 25:45Like it was it, we were holding on to Connor Wong and people
- 25:48were like, all right, we've got to wait for the last domino to
- 25:50fall. It's like we're so far removed
- 25:52now, and not that we're so far removed from the Devers trade.
- 25:55But it's just like it sits so weird with me is that it's just
- 25:59that quick of a turn around. We're talking less than a year.
- 26:02That's that's what I'm saying. All of these names were moved
- 26:05and it's like just a disastrous thing.
- 26:11I, I, I know it's, it's obvious. I'm not saying anything new, but
- 26:15it's it's got to be one of the worst trades of all time.
- 26:20It was, we can safely say now that it was a salary issue.
- 26:26It wasn't. It wasn't because everybody's
- 26:29looking at that being like, oh, the return that you got for
- 26:32Devers is out the door. It's like at this point we can
- 26:36obviously look at that trade and go, this had nothing to do with
- 26:39personnel. Did would they have wanted more
- 26:41out of a guy like Jordan Hicks? Obviously.
- 26:46Would it have been nice to see if Kyle Harrison could have
- 26:48blossomed to something? It's like, sure, but Kyle
- 26:51Harrison was served more value in a trade, so we shipped them
- 26:55out. So it's we're not.
- 26:57Act like they didn't mismanage the rushing of it because
- 27:02there's no way the giants in those pieces were the only
- 27:08return out there. But I think there were plenty of
- 27:11other landing spots that could have brought back more desirable
- 27:15pieces. They just, I felt like it was a
- 27:17panic move and. It absolutely was.
- 27:21It's hard to watch. But it it happened so I can you
- 27:24can only really work with the pieces that you, you know, the
- 27:26hand that gets dealt in return. And I'm looking at that going
- 27:29well, the this hand didn't work out.
- 27:32So let's flip things around, see what we can get.
- 27:35And I just don't feel like the going back to the lineup for
- 27:39opening day. I don't feel like what we're
- 27:41going to roll out there. While it's a good team, it was
- 27:46it was an under delivering after being over promised the the
- 27:50moon. Basically, so tough stuff, guy,
- 27:59tough stuff. You know what's tough is this
- 28:04Andrew McCutcheon situation, further prompted by the Marcelo
- 28:13Zuna signing who is heading to Pittsburgh on a one year, $12
- 28:17million deal. Safe to assume that the Pirates
- 28:21don't want Andrew McCutcheon patrolling Center for 162 games.
- 28:28So I think we can safely say that this is the end of the
- 28:33road, or maybe not safely, but it would be a safe bet, I guess.
- 28:39I mean, maybe he comes back in like a a role player Cypress
- 28:45scenario, but I don't think that he wants that.
- 28:48I don't think the front office wants that and I don't think the
- 28:50fans want that. I think it's, I think it's just
- 28:54done. I think it's done and.
- 28:57He's pissed too. I don't know if you've seen the
- 28:59whole thing with like the socials.
- 29:01His response is no. He well I put out this like hype
- 29:04video which you may have seen. It was the one with like the NF
- 29:08track to it. It's basically just kind of like
- 29:12this, you know, showcasing of him putting in the work in the
- 29:16offseason kind of thing. But even more than that, he I,
- 29:21I, I can't, I don't know for certain, but I want to say that
- 29:26his social profile pictures were him in Pirate's gear, you know,
- 29:34like in his uni and all that. Apparently that has been that's
- 29:39been swapped out for just like general.
- 29:41I think it may have even been like a logo or something, but.
- 29:46General may have even been in a logo.
- 29:49General may have even been in a logo.
- 29:53So yeah, he's he's not, he's not thrilled.
- 29:58It doesn't seem that he's thrilled.
- 30:00So. Was there?
- 30:03This is a rough one to not have JB.
- 30:06Is there. Were there talks?
- 30:10Did they, did they stall? Was Mccutchen playing hard to
- 30:13get? Was he not getting a call at
- 30:15all? Pour one out for our guy JB.
- 30:19Yeah, yeah, real tough one to not have him on, but honestly,
- 30:23maybe a good thing because they, he's, he was getting, we, we
- 30:26love JB, don't get me wrong, but he was getting really worked up
- 30:30about the McCutcheon thing because rightfully so, he views
- 30:34him our our guy. JB views him as a, as a
- 30:38franchise legend and he is and he's earned that title.
- 30:42However, what I won't hear is that he needs a farewell tour
- 30:50season in 2026 because he's been with the Pirates for the last
- 30:56three years. And every one of those years, I
- 31:02feel like very well could have been his last year.
- 31:05So it's like, what exactly did the pirates owe him other than
- 31:12just being like, hey, man, we get this has got to be it.
- 31:15This has got to be the last year.
- 31:16Like we can't just keep dragging this out year, but year after
- 31:19year. And people might say, like JB
- 31:21might even say, well, that's disrespecting the franchise
- 31:25legend. It's like, no, because he's he,
- 31:32he obviously he's been around the franchise for many years,
- 31:36but more recently is what I'm the point that I'm trying to
- 31:39make is that he's been, he's been with the Pirates for the
- 31:40last three years and it's been relatively abysmal.
- 31:46So it's like. Yeah, I don't, I don't, I don't
- 31:49think we give farewell tours to to non Hall of Famer locks.
- 31:56And then I was just looking at the numbers and I don't think
- 31:58he's a Hall of Famer. All very good.
- 32:01Appreciate your service. Still can be a franchise legend,
- 32:05can still be I. I agree, but.
- 32:10Well, I think that's I think that's the angle.
- 32:12I don't think I don't think people expect the entire league
- 32:15necessarily to to give him this like pool host Miggy farewell
- 32:19tour like we were talking about earlier.
- 32:22I, I think, I think the term farewell tour as it applies to
- 32:26Andrew McCutcheon just means relative to the team, like
- 32:31giving, giving fans the year like one last chance to, to
- 32:36relate or giving the fans one last season to celebrate Koch
- 32:40and, and you know, all that he's done for the team.
- 32:41I don't think it's the expectation is for it to be
- 32:44league wide. And I feel like that's a fair, I
- 32:46feel like that's a reasonable like a reasonable way to
- 32:50approach this. But either way, whether it's
- 32:56league wide or just team fan slash fan base specific, he like
- 33:03how I don't I don't know what else to say.
- 33:07Like how many, how many more seasons of this are we going to
- 33:09do before it's like, OK, when Like when do when are we
- 33:13wrapping up this chapter? Well, what I'm wondering is
- 33:15that, like, if, if freaking JB, if a Pirates fan, like, would
- 33:22they have been satisfied with that happening last year and it
- 33:29just being done, You know, like, what is it?
- 33:34Is it the Pirates fault for not taking more advantage of last
- 33:39year and doing that and doing the giveaways and doing the, you
- 33:43know, McCutcheon Knights and the, you know, bobbleheads and
- 33:48the jerseys and all that kind of stuff?
- 33:50Like, are we saying that the Pirates dropped the ball by not
- 33:56doing that last year? Are we?
- 34:00Like is there any blame on Kutch for saying not saying like hey
- 34:03I'm done after this like. I think there's got to be some
- 34:07like I, I, I'm a big fan of Kutch for sure.
- 34:10But the more, the more that I look at this, the more I look at
- 34:13it as numbers. I'm like, you can't be upset
- 34:17with the team for kind of waffling on this because it's
- 34:22like. It's punting.
- 34:24It's punting on another spot in the outfield, it's punting on
- 34:32kind of being competitive in that spot in the line up
- 34:35everyday. Exactly.
- 34:36And you're putting the team in a what I believe an unfair
- 34:40position by looking at them, just staring at them with their
- 34:44hands out to the side, being like, you're going to bring me
- 34:48back after posting a 700 OPS last year in 135 games?
- 34:53Like, what do you expect them to do?
- 34:57I get it that he's a franchise legend and I I respect that.
- 35:01And he's earned his rightful place in the the, you know, the
- 35:08Pirates Hall of Fame, as it were, but it it doesn't justify
- 35:12bringing him back for another year of what you can probably
- 35:16imagine will be a sub 700 OPS season with minimal offensive
- 35:22impact. I understand the leadership
- 35:23element. I understand what he means to
- 35:26those fans. But to your point about being
- 35:29competitive and having guys on the team right now that I think
- 35:33that whether or not the Pirates are serious about building
- 35:36around schemes in the foreseeable future, you have
- 35:39guys that could make an impact. And I just don't know how much
- 35:43you're detracting from that by bringing Kutch back for another
- 35:46year, given that he's he's done this quote UN quote farewell
- 35:50thing for the last three. Years, I think they've had an OK
- 35:54off season now the fit of Marce Luzuna it it's just I'll timed.
- 36:01You know what I mean? It's just it's poorly timed in
- 36:04the fact that like, I know I've seen the takes of like, you
- 36:07know, you go from one of the most likeable guys in Kutch to
- 36:09one of the least likeable guys in baseball.
- 36:14Talk to me in in July when he's, you know, got 3030 bombs up and
- 36:21is, you know, providing some protection in that lineup for
- 36:25some other guys. Now, the configuration of this
- 36:28lineup is a little interesting. A lot of DHS involved, but I
- 36:35don't know, man. I mean they're they're they're
- 36:38getting they're getting dudes who can hit, they're adding
- 36:41pieces in the best way they can. And I I would say that bringing
- 36:48touchback would maybe kind of damper the offseason and confuse
- 36:56the the message moving forward. Like you said, they're like at
- 37:00the very least, you can try to build around Paul Skeens.
- 37:05Is he likely gone? Yes.
- 37:07Does everyone see that in the wall?
- 37:09Yes, but can you at least try and get creative and try and
- 37:16show him that like, hey, we're going to do stuff.
- 37:19It may take a little more time for our organization to build
- 37:21around you, but we're going to try and do stuff.
- 37:23And they did that by bringing in some names and and there's a lot
- 37:27of young talent because obviously they've been in the
- 37:31dumps for a while. I don't know, I, if I were a
- 37:37Pirates fan, I would feel better and about the position we're in
- 37:41right now than than last year. And for Kutch to sit here, you
- 37:45know, for just sit here and say that Kutch not coming back
- 37:47completely robs the entire offseason and any hope going
- 37:51into next year. It's like, Nah, that's there's,
- 37:54there's too much bias there and I don't know if I blame him.
- 37:59No disrespect. No disrespect.
- 38:02Well, Speaking of disrespect, now is the time to talk about
- 38:07your guy, Paul Goldschmidt. What?
- 38:09Tell me, tell me what to feel about this.
- 38:14I mean, I, I, I guess I kind of get it that we're, we're
- 38:17officially running last year's team back like it's fully
- 38:21official. Is it like name for name?
- 38:24Is it the same lineup I mean? Yeah, pretty much.
- 38:30We got Caballero at the deadline.
- 38:32He's going to be the shortstop opening day because both I don't
- 38:35think will be ready. The subtraction of Devin
- 38:40Williams, Luke Weaver from the bullpen and then Ryan Weathers
- 38:45getting added to the rotation. Like outside of that, that's it.
- 38:48Like it. Line up wise, yeah, like
- 38:51starting nine, it's going to be name for name.
- 38:54Yeah, post deadline, Yeah. McMahon at 3rd, Caballero at
- 38:57short, Jazz at 2nd. It's crazy.
- 39:02Goldie at first, Goldie at first splitting with Ben Rice.
- 39:06I think Goldie's, they're going to platoon.
- 39:10And I kind of get like, because Goldie's kind of a coach.
- 39:14I don't know if you've seen him, like there's clips of him being
- 39:17in dugouts, like coaching younger guys.
- 39:19He kind of just fits that vibe. There's a little bit of that
- 39:23going on in the WBC, if I recall, like early, early signs
- 39:28of that. Start to develop.
- 39:29Yeah, yeah, There's the one that there's the clip of him trying
- 39:32to talk to Giancarlo Stanton and Stanton's just slamming water.
- 39:36Like you can tell it's just. That too.
- 39:38Yeah, yeah, not paying attention to that.
- 39:40But Ben Rice doesn't know how to play first.
- 39:43He doesn't. He can't play first base because
- 39:48our organization keeps players in a position and doesn't expect
- 39:53them to ever get to the big leagues and play another one and
- 39:55then scrambles when they get there.
- 39:57So they love to do that. But yeah, I mean, it's, I don't
- 40:01know, like I, I was more broken up about him being on the on the
- 40:07USA roster, in the Yankee roster.
- 40:09I mean, because we're just stacked for the USA team and
- 40:13Goldie's just like whatever. I mean, I, I get it, these
- 40:18people probably going to come after me, but like he's.
- 40:21It's the fall off is is pretty big man, though.
- 40:24There's a real, real loss of power.
- 40:28Pretty much only going to hit off the lefties.
- 40:31Plays great defense. Can't argue that.
- 40:34But yeah, we'll see. They're running back, dude.
- 40:40They're running it back. If you had to give me right now,
- 40:46I'm putting you on the spot. A little bit of a preview into a
- 40:49little bit of a look ahead, maybe even to our our hot tags
- 40:53predictions episode. You had to give me the top three
- 40:56out of the East. I mean, it's like it, it's hard,
- 41:02dude. Because like for me, I am
- 41:07frustrated with the offseason because it's like we didn't get
- 41:10over the hump and you could have done more, but then you and
- 41:14you're like, but this same exact team won 94 games last year and
- 41:19came down to the wire with the Blue Jays to win the division.
- 41:24So, well, you so it's like I'm going to say, I'm going to
- 41:27assume that you're putting the Jays.
- 41:29I'm going to go Jays. At the top.
- 41:30Yeah, Jays, Yanks in like, I'd probably say Red Sox just
- 41:36because of the pitching over the Orioles.
- 41:41Fair. I mean you you said earlier you
- 41:43could see them being like a 90 win team, which I feel like is
- 41:46that's yeah, I mean that's fair. And then you kind of slot the
- 41:49Yankees in there in the middle. Yeah, that's kind of how I see
- 41:52it. But I could also, I could also,
- 41:55I could see that being flipped around in different ways too.
- 41:58But those top three teams, I think, I don't know what order
- 42:01it's in. If you had to tune in for How It
- 42:03takes episode. Well, that's what I was asking.
- 42:04I was asking for the order. Oh, you know the order Order.
- 42:08Which is why I was probably that order, yeah, probably that
- 42:10order. I could see it.
- 42:11I could see it falling that way. Yeah, yeah, dude.
- 42:15You have to TuneIn. Welcome back oldie.
- 42:17I guess. Welcome back everybody.
- 42:20Be super clutch for Team USA. That bears no impact on his
- 42:27Yankees tenure this year. But just trying to look for the
- 42:31positives I see, hey, that's all me.
- 42:34Hey, that's all me. I'm I'm Pooh poohing your
- 42:36efforts to try and find a positive out of this a silver
- 42:39lining. I'm trying out of the
- 42:41Goldschmidt. You know, credit to you.
- 42:43I don't know that that's going to happen.
- 42:46Truthfully, I don't know how many at bats he's even going to
- 42:48get. In the WBC, but he'll he'll get
- 42:52a clutch moment. I could see it.
- 42:55I could see it against. It's fair.
- 43:02Italy or whatever, whoever we're playing.
- 43:06Yeah, well, hopefully we won't need a Klutzmann versus Italy,
- 43:10but. Yeah, I know.
- 43:12Well, that that's what I'm saying is it's like it's all
- 43:14relative in a very unimportant game.
- 43:17I can see them getting a lot of ABS when they're practicing
- 43:20against the Giants in an exhibition game or the Rockies.
- 43:24It's to answer your question, Italy, Great Britain, Mexico and
- 43:29Brazil is the other team. Yeah, maybe you're Brazil.
- 43:38They don't got, they don't got much going on.
- 43:41Speaking of the WBC, a name that we thought was going to be in
- 43:45the WBC but won't be for seems as though a multitude of
- 43:50reasons. Francisco Lindor permission
- 43:56reasons, insurance reasons, injury reasons.
- 44:01He is going to be evaluated for a stress fracture.
- 44:06It appears in his hamate bone. Hamate bone, Dude, what?
- 44:09What's going on with the hamate bones all?
- 44:11Right. I kind of want to look it up.
- 44:14It's what is what? Where is it in the in the hand?
- 44:17I think it's at the isn't it? Like at the bottom sort of below
- 44:22the like fleshy part here on the on the base.
- 44:25Am I? Am I misremembering?
- 44:27I think I had a hamate issue when I played.
- 44:31In college shows it like the right there.
- 44:34Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like in this vicinity, Yeah,
- 44:39Yeah, I think I had it. It's such a, it's a real what a
- 44:44common issue in baseball, just cause of the the impact that
- 44:47that spot takes. You had it on which which hand?
- 44:57I honestly don't even remember it.
- 44:59It wasn't. It wasn't.
- 45:01Like a, it wasn't like a, it wasn't a fracture or anything,
- 45:03but I just remember that that spot, that that spot takes a
- 45:06beating. Like I'm, I'm not going to say
- 45:08that I had to deal with what these guys are dealing with.
- 45:10But it makes me feel like it's bottom hand.
- 45:13Yeah. And it makes me wonder if like
- 45:16because some guys have that knob right there, right?
- 45:19Kind of hang down low on the knob.
- 45:22That's how I was, yeah. Yeah, but he's a switch hitter,
- 45:28so it's kind of hard to tell on Lindor.
- 45:30True, but there's another handmade bone out there that's
- 45:33been damaged. Which hand was it for Corbin
- 45:36Carroll? A couple Corbin Carroll, Jackson
- 45:38Holiday. I don't know if you saw that
- 45:39Jackson holiday. Too.
- 45:41Yep, Yep. So we got Lindor, Carroll,
- 45:44Holiday, all with handmade bone issues.
- 45:47Holiday is getting surgery. Lindor is going to be evaluated.
- 45:52Corbin Carroll broke it will go undergo surgery.
- 45:55Oh, that was today Wednesday. So another name WBC related
- 46:02Corbin Carroll was supposed to be in the in in that tournament
- 46:05will no longer be in the tournament and is questionable
- 46:08for opening day as well. So this hey mate thing, man
- 46:12making its way, you know, I was, I was just going to say sort of
- 46:21like a little bug making its way around the league.
- 46:23But hopefully, hopefully it, it stops for these guys, 'cause
- 46:26you'd hate to see, 'cause that just seems like such a nagging,
- 46:31like just an injury that even when you come back from it's,
- 46:35it's one of those injuries I feel like, or, or surgeries even
- 46:38that's going to sort of stick in the back of your mind where you
- 46:41just don't feel quite at ease when you're up at the plate, you
- 46:44know? It's crazy.
- 46:47I wonder if there's like a like a protocol of like, I've been
- 46:55feeling this all offseason, you know what I mean?
- 47:00And then like the team just being like, well, get to camp
- 47:03and we'll figure it out when you get here.
- 47:05And then they do the tests and it's like, yeah, that's because
- 47:09what, all three of them happening within a few days.
- 47:12It's like, that's crazy. And I feel like that's maybe the
- 47:15protocol, but I don't know. I don't, I don't know if that's
- 47:17the right way to go about it. You know, what are the teams
- 47:21doing? Why are they kicking the can
- 47:22down the road? Why don't we seeing this back in
- 47:24November? I don't know.
- 47:29Well, I mean, it's, it's certainly case by case
- 47:31situation, not all, not safe to say that not all of these
- 47:35injuries are are popping up early enough to where it makes
- 47:39too much of a difference. But to your point, that's that's
- 47:42a broader conversation really, you know, to be had is some of
- 47:48these injuries, not necessarily the handmade bones, but some of
- 47:50these injuries. These guys know about it at the
- 47:54end of the previous season. And then they roll into the they
- 47:57they go, well, we're trying to rehab it.
- 47:59And then you hear about, well, they're going to undergo season
- 48:01ending surgery in mid February. And it's like feel like we could
- 48:06have gotten ahead of this, but here we are.
- 48:10Yeah, I. Don't get it.
- 48:13Tough blow. Tough blow for Team USA.
- 48:18Tough blow. I don't think Puerto Rico had
- 48:22it, but Tupelo for the Mets. But what else is new?
- 48:27Puerto Rico could have made a run.
- 48:28Shout out Puerto Rico, I'll be there for the the coming days.
- 48:33When you're listening to this. When you're listening to this, I
- 48:36will literally be in Puerto Rico.
- 48:39On the beach, it's. Hard to say.
- 48:42You know they got a Costco down there.
- 48:44Get out of here. Dead serious.
- 48:45Yeah, I'm married. It's like we might, might hit up
- 48:47Costco. We're going to have to stop at
- 48:48Walmart. And.
- 48:49Pick up some snacks I need reports on what that?
- 48:52That's a great. That's a great point.
- 48:54I hadn't even thought about exploring what the food court
- 48:56situations. Are coming there I need.
- 49:00To. What if there are shoestring hot
- 49:02dogs in there? OK, let's let's not get ahead of
- 49:05ourselves. Speaking of not getting ahead of
- 49:07ourselves, how dare we think that Chris Bryant was going to
- 49:13be ready for opening Day? My man can't catch a break.
- 49:19Well, I mean, he, he's caught all, all sorts of, you know.
- 49:24All done. Physical breaks, but he is he is
- 49:29on the 60 day to start the year due to his quote chronically
- 49:33bothersome Beck. Does he forfeit salary if he
- 49:39retires or something? See like leave money on the
- 49:43table? What are we doing?
- 49:45He is. Higher and go have it's a 10
- 49:48year anniversary for the Cubs. Go celebrate with your former
- 49:53teammates. Have your moment in this in the
- 49:56sunshine. Wave to the people and and just
- 50:01disappear. That's Is that a threat?
- 50:06Yeah. I'm going to have to bleep that
- 50:10out. I don't want people knocking on
- 50:11our doors. I got a text from the Montford
- 50:13saying this is what needs to happen.
- 50:17Oh, is, is that, is that what you got?
- 50:19Is that what it says? Yeah, I'm all connected in
- 50:22Colorado still. He oh, I believe it.
- 50:24I believe it is it. They got a mafia out there.
- 50:27Yeah, got a mafia is what they call it.
- 50:29Oh yeah, no doubt, no doubt. To answer your question, he's
- 50:32owed 78,000,000 over the next three seasons.
- 50:36He has played 170 games since signing 182,000,007 year
- 50:43contract before the 2022 season. I feel for them.
- 50:53I feel for the Rockies. I mean, that's.
- 50:56I mean, it's just a, it's a, it's a tough, it's a tough
- 51:00situation. But at this point it's like you
- 51:03can't, you can't bank on this guy for anything.
- 51:06So it's like, yeah, it sucks for the Rockies, but them getting
- 51:11this news should have come as no surprise to them.
- 51:14And that's, again, it sucks for both parties involved, but it's
- 51:16like, OK, yeah, sure. I mean, what what's what's new?
- 51:21But dude, we've been doing this podcast a while and we have, we
- 51:27have not talked about Kris Bryant really at all, if you
- 51:30think about it like in the grand scheme of things.
- 51:33Been a minute since he's been good, huh?
- 51:36Just or even relevant? No disrespect but like he just
- 51:39hasn't even been available for us to even talk about.
- 51:41It's kind of weird given the way his career started out.
- 51:47I can type. That'd be great.
- 51:51OK, OK, let's see. The last closest thing he played
- 52:03to a full season was 2021. Played 144 games between the
- 52:11Giants and the Cubs. Since then.
- 52:17It's been terrible, man. It's been bad.
- 52:22Holy crap. Overall, I mean, this is just a
- 52:26very unimpressive career when it comes down to it.
- 52:31Sorry what a fall off 7.3 WAR in 2016.
- 52:39Obviously 1 MVP. Just nothing since, man, it's
- 52:47too bad. Few more injuries slash
- 52:55surgeries to make note of. Anthony Santander will undergo
- 52:58or I guess he already underwent surgery this week.
- 53:02He undergone he undergone surgery to repair the labrum in
- 53:07his left shoulder. He'll be out what they're
- 53:10estimating to be 5 to 6 months. Spencer Schwellenbach for the
- 53:15Braves expected to miss significant time.
- 53:18They don't know the timetable for when he's going to be back
- 53:24but they think based on what I was reading they they think he
- 53:28avoided a serious UCL injury situation so.
- 53:33They cannot catch a break, dude. They.
- 53:36Cannot. Yeah, that's a tough, that's a
- 53:42tough blow for a rotation. That's a wrong blow of the wind
- 53:46away from utter collapse. Yeah.
- 53:50Just personnel wise, injury history wise, just not a good.
- 53:54You think it's like the 49ers. You think they just have like a
- 53:57a electric magnetic pulses running through their field
- 54:05messing with them? I heard about that.
- 54:07That's crazy. The fact that, OK, the scariest
- 54:10thing about that whole 49ers thing is the fact that they said
- 54:13that they would look into it like if there was nothing to be
- 54:16concerned about, they'd be like, you all are crazy.
- 54:18Like, put the take the tinfoil hats off.
- 54:20They're like, yeah, you know, we'll, we'll do our due
- 54:23diligence. It's like, you know something.
- 54:26Yeah, dude, you know it's growing over there.
- 54:29That's crazy. Wow.
- 54:34Don't know if that's the, I hope it's not the case for Atlanta
- 54:36because we were just there and we're, I mean, we're there for a
- 54:41good. Just breathe better.
- 54:43Part of a week, yeah, So hopefully nothing crazy there.
- 54:46So if. You breathe it in.
- 54:47Do you probably not just absorb it?
- 54:50Just absorb it. You just feel it.
- 54:53Your body just kind of takes it, you know?
- 55:00Just like static electricity. I guess I don't know how these
- 55:04things are. I mean, what up up here where
- 55:07I'm at, it's data center central.
- 55:10So I'm actively shaving years off of my life so.
- 55:15Radioactively. Oh, you could be a superhero
- 55:20eventually. Yeah, maybe it takes, you know,
- 55:24at the fork in the road where the left is, you know, deaf.
- 55:28Maybe the right is. I end up being a superhero.
- 55:31Who's to say? The only one way to find out
- 55:33what would you do? What would you want to be?
- 55:41I've always been fascinated by the, the sort of, well, I guess
- 55:50to, to boil it down, simply the the whole invisibility element.
- 55:53I think I feel like that's kind of cool.
- 55:55Sure, I'm going to take teleportation, all right.
- 55:58That's it's a no brainer. I mean, if I could combine the
- 56:02two, that'd be, that'd be top shelf.
- 56:03Maybe that's something that would would be worth
- 56:09considering, you know, if they want to take a movie and run
- 56:11with that. I mean, how many, how many
- 56:14superheroes do they have like doubling down on?
- 56:16Yeah, why don't they get more than one?
- 56:18Skill sets, you know. I don't.
- 56:19I'm out on Superman, by the way. He's got too much.
- 56:23There's a there's a balance. You can't have everything.
- 56:28Well, that's why he's Superman. Yeah, out on that.
- 56:32I think that's the entire. I think that's why I like Batman
- 56:37Found. They literally got nothing, just
- 56:38some money. Iron Man's my guy.
- 56:41Iron Man big same thing. Arguably same thing.
- 56:44He's just got some money. Just.
- 56:45Got money? Yeah.
- 56:49Big respect. These guys, however, are not
- 56:51Iron Man because, you know, for obvious reasons, as we've
- 56:54already talked about. And lastly here, Rhys Olson will
- 56:57miss the 2026 season after a right shoulder procedure.
- 57:03Or we just we were just talking about him too.
- 57:07Yeah, another name that I feel like I I was, I was really
- 57:09excited about, but he will be, he'll be out for this season.
- 57:13But we already talked about the what the Tigers rotation looks
- 57:15like. I think they'll be OK on that.
- 57:17Front. That was the reason for the
- 57:18Verlander reunion. Yeah, I, well, I mean, what I
- 57:23was reading is they they said that might have been part of the
- 57:25reason they contributed to, you know, the Framber thing, the
- 57:28Verlander thing, that that whole deal.
- 57:30So because you something like this, I'm sure you've you would
- 57:33have known about Yeah, so and I think his surgery was like
- 57:41early, early February. So they yeah, for like February
- 57:432nd, I think so. Aren't you for you personally,
- 57:49just like, aren't you just kind of waiting for the ball to drop
- 57:51on somebody at some point during the spring training?
- 57:54You're like, is our season just going to get freaking topsy
- 57:59turvy at some point? Yeah.
- 58:02It's with every team. Yeah, I know.
- 58:04Nobody, no team is immune to a a spring training bomb dropping
- 58:10because we see it all the time. I hate it.
- 58:18Speaking of dropping, do you see the giveaway that the Rangers
- 58:21dropped? Me gusta, me gusta.
- 58:26Very creative. I like that.
- 58:28I had to put out of my mind the, the, the creeping thought that
- 58:33that was in the back of my mind of being like, this is kind of
- 58:36weird. Like if you just look at it
- 58:38objectively, it's kind of weird and it's a little weird.
- 58:41I really, I just had to channel the inner Nolan Ryan fan right
- 58:44here. I mean, this, this is the right
- 58:46there. That's that's the that's the
- 58:47picture right there behind me. Go watch on YouTube.
- 58:50Shout out YouTube. Yeah, please do also go go
- 58:56follow a show on YouTube just please.
- 58:57And while you're there, just hit the subscribe button.
- 58:59Honestly, if you're into watching podcasts on YouTube,
- 59:04just add us to your list. Add us to your collection.
- 59:07Just come hang out with the boys, especially when JB is
- 59:09here. JBJB you.
- 59:10Think we just put these these stupid all this crap on our
- 59:14walls for for audio, no. No, we're we're trying to
- 59:17showcase our our collection that we've built out over the years.
- 59:22Any who's the. If you don't know what we're
- 59:24talking about, the Rangers announced that this May, yeah,
- 59:29May 29th, the Rangers will be giving away throwback Rangers
- 59:33jerseys that feature. It's like a replica of the
- 59:38bloody jersey that Nolan Ryan donned after a comeback from Bo
- 59:43Jackson. A lot of people think, and I
- 59:46admittedly. It's the Robin Ventura.
- 59:48Fight Admittedly, I had to be reminded of that myself, 'cause
- 59:51I think you just see that and you're like, oh, Nolan Ryan just
- 59:54throwing hands. No, it was a comebacker from
- 59:57Noah, none other than Bo Jackson.
- 59:59A lot of people forget that, but people are like, wouldn't it
- 1:00:03make more sense to give it away versus the White Sox instead of
- 1:00:05the whoever they're giving it away?
- 1:00:09The I don't know who they're giving away against, but but
- 1:00:12yeah, people are like, no, it's it has nothing to do with Robin
- 1:00:16Ventura. So anyway, pretty pretty.
- 1:00:19Sick. Was he a White Sox at that time?
- 1:00:23Royal. He was royal at that time.
- 1:00:25Yeah, but yeah, super sick giveaway would definitely get
- 1:00:30one if I I would definitely go to that game if I was in Texas,
- 1:00:34but I'm obviously not, so I can't.
- 1:00:37But that would be one. That'd be.
- 1:00:39I'm not one of those people that is like, oh, I got to make it to
- 1:00:42the park for this giveaway. It's like if I miss it, I miss
- 1:00:44it. But like if I'm there, cool.
- 1:00:45Like whatever. Like if I catch a catch a bobble
- 1:00:47head day, awesome. But I'm definitely not going out
- 1:00:50of my way for a particular giveaway.
- 1:00:54I mean, it would really have to just blow my socks off.
- 1:00:57You know, this, this could be one of them.
- 1:01:00This is rather unique. And I'm most certainly putting a
- 1:01:04bow on that point. I'm most certainly not buying
- 1:01:07these things off of eBay 'cause I know, and no disrespect to
- 1:01:09people that do that. I get, I get it.
- 1:01:11If you really want something and you're like, well, I can't
- 1:01:13'cause I'm at, I don't live in that city, I get it.
- 1:01:16But people, people mark those things up like crazy on eBay,
- 1:01:21like the eBay or the the bobble head market on eBay.
- 1:01:26Insane. I'm like, I'm not spending 150.
- 1:01:28Is it the mob? Yeah, probably.
- 1:01:30It's like I don't want to spend $150.00 to $200 on a bobble
- 1:01:34head, but that's just me. Mobble head, mobble.
- 1:01:38Moving on, man. A mob Getting a couple
- 1:01:41references tonight. How about that?
- 1:01:44Keep it on the deal moving forward.
- 1:01:46Yeah, I probably shouldn't talk about that or we'll have a
- 1:01:51horse's head in our bed. Isn't that the Andy Andy Dwark
- 1:01:56line? Yeah, isn't that what he says?
- 1:02:01I'm trying to remember exactly what he says, but it's Oh yeah,
- 1:02:04I think it is. He's like something, yeah,
- 1:02:06something with the mob. He's like or you'll wake up with
- 1:02:08a dead or a. Dead.
- 1:02:11Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. The insurance guy where they go
- 1:02:14to lunch. Sorry, what?
- 1:02:24If it's not on the side, I bring it back or I'll send it back.
- 1:02:28Great episode. Speaking of jerseys the Marlins
- 1:02:33announced that they're wearing, They're bringing teal back.
- 1:02:37Big fan of these. Not their first, you know,
- 1:02:41dipping of the toe per SE in the teal game like we we've seen
- 1:02:46them bring back in recent years. The what is it?
- 1:02:49It's the, the whites with the black pinstripes, right?
- 1:02:53With the teal hats. You know what I'm talking about.
- 1:02:57I think so. Were those those weren't the
- 1:02:59vests, were they? Not this, no, not this most
- 1:03:04recent version, but I think that was within the last like a year
- 1:03:07or two they brought that back. But now they're officially
- 1:03:10bringing the teal back, and I think they're going to be
- 1:03:12wearing that on Sundays this year.
- 1:03:15Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Dude, that's clean.
- 1:03:21Yeah. Big fan.
- 1:03:24I love when a team listen, like ask their fans what they want.
- 1:03:28The fans like, hey, we want this and Marlins fan case.
- 1:03:33They said we want the teal uniforms back and they go out
- 1:03:36and do it. Just all other 29 Major League
- 1:03:40Baseball teams learn from the Marlins.
- 1:03:42Come on, be better. Yeah, love that.
- 1:03:45Honestly, just go back, change, Change it all.
- 1:03:54Change it all the way back to the Florida Marlins.
- 1:03:58I'm I'm so behind that just. To get it all back.
- 1:04:02What are we waiting for? We can pretend like it never
- 1:04:05happened. Pretend it never happened.
- 1:04:06We'll close our eyes. We'll be we'll be respectful.
- 1:04:09We'll we won't be rude. We won't pry.
- 1:04:11Just we'll close our eyes. You all do what you need to do
- 1:04:15and get things right again. Let's get this back to the
- 1:04:20Florida Marlins. Isn't doesn't Jeff Conine's son
- 1:04:27play for them? Yeah, Griffin, he was a Duke
- 1:04:30guy. He was there when I was working
- 1:04:31there. I like that man.
- 1:04:34I could get Conine back in the teal.
- 1:04:37Well, actually low key didn't he get?
- 1:04:42Did he get popped? Now we're in college.
- 1:04:48No post post draft. I swear he got popped.
- 1:04:53Maybe I'm thinking of, maybe I'm thinking of his dad.
- 1:04:55He said Griffin, Yeah, no disrespect.
- 1:04:59I don't like that first name. Yeah, he tested positive back in
- 1:05:0218. Yeah, well, still a good kid.
- 1:05:10Quote, careless decision. I mean, whatever, he's still a
- 1:05:13good kid. Did Jeff Conine ever get?
- 1:05:16Popped. I thought he did.
- 1:05:17Or he was at least suspected of it, wasn't he?
- 1:05:20Come on. I like Jeff Conine was an Oriole
- 1:05:26back in the day. Any who's you see the new hats,
- 1:05:33see the spring training hats. Yeah, I wanted to round out with
- 1:05:37that spring training hats, You know, I'm not, I'm not going to
- 1:05:43complain about them. Like, do I think they do?
- 1:05:46I think they're like the greatest spring training hats
- 1:05:48ever? No, but am I, am I going to
- 1:05:53complain about spring training hats in 2026?
- 1:05:56Also No, like, I get it. It's just a money grab there.
- 1:06:00No matter what these, these teams this league tries to sell
- 1:06:04you like, oh, we're just trying to, you know, improve branding.
- 1:06:08We're trying to improve the experience for fans at the
- 1:06:12spring training ballparks. No, just a money grab.
- 1:06:17It's easy to it's easy to to have a money grab when you
- 1:06:20change the design every single spring.
- 1:06:24But that's not that's not ground breaking.
- 1:06:26So yeah, I mean, it's cool, though it's different.
- 1:06:32It's different. I I can appreciate it.
- 1:06:34At first I thought the other sticker on the bill was like
- 1:06:39another design. You see the like the normal
- 1:06:41sticker that's like the circular one in the middle.
- 1:06:44There's like another sticker over like.
- 1:06:46Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I thought that was a part of the
- 1:06:48design when it first came out, No, Yeah, please don't touch the
- 1:06:51bill, honestly. OK, he.
- 1:06:55I kind of like him. Yeah, OK.
- 1:06:58Honestly, when I was saying all those things, I said I didn't
- 1:07:00have the I'd I'd seen the pictures earlier today, but now
- 1:07:04that I'm looking at him again, I'm kind of a fan.
- 1:07:07I mean, it's, it's, it's on, it's non traditional, it's
- 1:07:17unorthodox. That's the word I was looking
- 1:07:18for. But you know, it's in a day and
- 1:07:23age. And then there's unorthodox in a
- 1:07:25day and age where my hat collection grows by the day.
- 1:07:28It's my threshold for disliking hats just shrinks almost by the
- 1:07:37minute. Like I, I just love hats.
- 1:07:39So the more that I look at these to to sort of go back on what I
- 1:07:43was saying earlier, I the more I look at them, the more I like.
- 1:07:46Them the A's one is kind of sick.
- 1:07:50A's one is sick. Just pops with the yellow.
- 1:07:54A's one is sick. The yeah, the Padres.
- 1:07:58I was going to say the Padres, but that it's also that yellow
- 1:08:01pops a little bit. I like that Rockies.
- 1:08:03White Sox isn't bad. Yeah, White Sox looks good.
- 1:08:07Rockies pretty solid. Yeah, man, I like them.
- 1:08:14I like them a little more and more, but any who's Lastly here,
- 1:08:21we'll finish up with Murray's Question of the Week.
- 1:08:26Murray's Question of the Week. Murray's question of the week is
- 1:08:31from this point on you can't eat your favorite home cooked meal
- 1:08:35AKA from mom, dad, wife, grandparents, etcetera.
- 1:08:39But your favorite team will win at least 10 more World Series in
- 1:08:45your lifetime. Are you taking it a million
- 1:08:48percent? Wow, a million.
- 1:08:51Percent. Full 100% disrespect to Mama
- 1:08:55Reyes. No question about it.
- 1:09:01No question about it. I don't have the heart to say
- 1:09:04that though. I have.
- 1:09:08She would understand. She would understand.
- 1:09:12Now here's the thing. I.
- 1:09:13Would like to think mine would too, but I just don't have the
- 1:09:16hard to. Say it, I guess it is home
- 1:09:19cooked meal because like for me, I cook at home, my home I do the
- 1:09:24cooking. Yeah, so you, you can pass,
- 1:09:28you'll pass on your cooking if it means 10 World Series, but.
- 1:09:31Yeah, yeah. But the rest of the fam though,
- 1:09:37any, any like family favorites that you've grown up on, you're
- 1:09:41just saying no to for the rest of your life?
- 1:09:44Yes I would do it for multiple meals.
- 1:09:48I would do you could pick out every family member and I would
- 1:09:53I would cross off their top for 10.
- 1:09:56Dubs, that's cold. Yes, that's fair.
- 1:10:01I mean that is yes, I feel like that's an unfair number to set
- 1:10:04it at. I mean, like, that's a lot of
- 1:10:06world. Series.
- 1:10:08I would have done it for three. I would have done it for three
- 1:10:11rings. That's fair.
- 1:10:15Yeah. I mean, who knows?
- 1:10:15Who's to say how much time I've got left with these data centers
- 1:10:18up here? I mean, that's right, that's
- 1:10:20right. I need to see one soon again
- 1:10:22before before it's too late. Yeah, they'll take advantage of
- 1:10:26it. You know, that's, I mean, what
- 1:10:31are the meals? What are what meal are you
- 1:10:33saying goodbye to? Honestly, I hadn't even gotten
- 1:10:37to that part of the the thought process.
- 1:10:39The next level it was. I think I, I immediately was
- 1:10:43just like, I don't know if I could just be like, no, I'm
- 1:10:47turning down my favorite home cooked meal from, from mom or
- 1:10:51from, from the wife, you know? Yeah.
- 1:10:56What do you have a favorite that Meredith makes?
- 1:11:01There's a few, I mean, my mom, you got it.
- 1:11:07Well, you got to remember mom's from she's from Southwest
- 1:11:11Pennsylvania. So, and I'm sure we've talked
- 1:11:13about this at one point or another on here, but.
- 1:11:15It's casserole. Heavy on the casseroles, the
- 1:11:18butter, the salt, the dairy. That's what I that's pretty much
- 1:11:22what I grew up on. So I'm, I'm, I'm thick boned.
- 1:11:25Yeah, there's, there's no, there's no lack of of meat on
- 1:11:29the bones. Here big time.
- 1:11:31So it's probably like AI love a good beef stroganoff and people
- 1:11:37are going to be like, are you insane?
- 1:11:39Love beef, But that's a good that's that's one of my
- 1:11:42favourites from mom for sure. That's that's just off the top
- 1:11:46of the Dome. I'm sure if I thought about it I
- 1:11:47could come up with a much longer list, both for her and for.
- 1:11:51But see, I wonder, I'd have to say goodbye to my mom's chicken
- 1:11:57tetrazzini. I'd have to say goodbye to that
- 1:12:00one. And that's a tough one to say
- 1:12:01goodbye to. I don't even know what a
- 1:12:03tetrazzini is, but sounds good. It's great.
- 1:12:06It's great. Zini, that sounds like a pasta.
- 1:12:08Is that a pasta? Yeah, it's like a, it's like a,
- 1:12:14it's like if it's like a love child between Mac and cheese and
- 1:12:19spaghetti. No, not.
- 1:12:21Not all those ingredients together.
- 1:12:23Beef tetrazzini, no. No, no.
- 1:12:25Chicken. Chicken.
- 1:12:26Oh. Chicken Tetrazzini.
- 1:12:28Chicken tetrazzini and and you bake it.
- 1:12:32This is kind of like you bake it like a lasagna.
- 1:12:34Oh. Weird I I thought this was like
- 1:12:36a red a red sauce meal. This is not a red sauce meal.
- 1:12:39No, it's like cheese and and chicken and it's done with like
- 1:12:42spaghetti noodles. Slaps.
- 1:12:45It slaps. That's a tough but I mean, yeah,
- 1:12:47see ya. Adios.
- 1:12:50Well, how did you drive through cold man?
- 1:12:54Cold. Sorry, Ma, if it was my that's
- 1:12:57where it was the struggle for me because I'm the one that does
- 1:13:00the home cooking and if my, I mean my favorite home, I'm like
- 1:13:04have to say goodbye to my own steaks for the rest of my life.
- 1:13:08Now that's a harder conversation.
- 1:13:10Thinking awfully high of your own steaks, but.
- 1:13:15Well, that's my favorite home cooked meal that I make and I'm
- 1:13:18the one that cook it. I cook at my home so.
- 1:13:21No, I'm not. Look, I'm not dispute.
- 1:13:23I'm not. I'm not disputing that they're
- 1:13:24good. You, by the way, haven't made me
- 1:13:26one of these steaks yet, and I find that.
- 1:13:28Kind of offensive I got you find that kind of offensive Look,
- 1:13:32she's not going to hear this, but like, you know, I have no
- 1:13:34problem saying goodbye to Paige's boxed Mac and cheese,
- 1:13:39you know that can. I think that's, I think Kraft
- 1:13:44owns that. I don't please.
- 1:13:45Give an out me on that by the way, because she has stepped up
- 1:13:48her game. Hey, I respect the effort.
- 1:13:50She's a great sous chef. She's a great sous chef.
- 1:13:53Head chef is just not there yet. It's fair, but.
- 1:13:57In fact, I might be going home to a meal here in a SEC that I'm
- 1:14:02really curious. Actually, it's probably an air
- 1:14:05fryer or something. Hey, watch out for those micro
- 1:14:08plastics. Let's Yeah.
- 1:14:11Have you heard about this? It's a whole big.
- 1:14:13Metal. It's all metal.
- 1:14:15It's the next, it's the new, it's the latest thing that
- 1:14:18apparently is going to kill us all.

- 1:17:10Yeah, we'll have the loop Inman of the mix this year.
- 1:17:12That could be a a four hour episode.
- 1:17:14That's very possible. I'm I'm prepared, I'm I'm here
- 1:17:18for it. It's.
- 1:17:19Fine with me. All right, Cool.
- 1:17:24Head on out. Go get your go get your Mac and
- 1:17:27cheese. I think it's an air fryer thing
- 1:17:30or or or something with lettuce. We she decided that we needed,
- 1:17:36you know, the, the, the long, what's the long lettuce?
- 1:17:41It's not the ball. Yeah, not the head, it's the
- 1:17:44long stalks kind of thing. Yeah, yeah, kind of like those,
- 1:17:47right? We went to Costco the other day,
- 1:17:48by the way. Oh boy, what about?
- 1:17:53We just, we just spent, we, we just spent too much money there.
- 1:17:59So much money. This is from Costco.
- 1:18:02You don't go into Costco telling Costco what you need, do you?
- 1:18:05Let Costco tell you what. Costco you need Costco tells you
- 1:18:09manhandled me. All right, what do you what did
- 1:18:12you get at Costco or lettuce or stocks?
- 1:18:17Or all the lettuce things. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:18:18It was like a it was like a six pack of those for 4 bucks.
- 1:18:23She's like, we'll have salads and I'm like, what?
- 1:18:27For a month? Like what do you mean we had to
- 1:18:29give them away? Dude, the greens go not at
- 1:18:33Costco, just in general, the greens go quick.
- 1:18:35It's like, Oh yeah, we'll have salads every night this week and
- 1:18:37then by like Night 3, it's like, I think these are going bad.
- 1:18:40Dude, I know and I panicked because it was freezing in
- 1:18:43there, you know that cold the. Oh.
- 1:18:45Yeah, the fridge section, the get the fridge, Get Me Out of
- 1:18:48here. I don't care what we get, Get Me
- 1:18:49Out of here stressed anyway. So it's probably that with like
- 1:18:54salmon or something. That sucks.
- 1:18:56Hey yo, don't sleep on the salmon I love.
- 1:18:59I love a good salmon that's like the one meal I contribute to our
- 1:19:02our regular rhythm for dinner. But.
- 1:19:06The air fryer Salmon. No, no.
- 1:19:08Are you out on the air fryer? By the way, it's like.
- 1:19:11Are you saying? You're done.
- 1:19:12I'm just saying be mindful of it.
- 1:19:13I'm just trying to, it's a little PSA.
- 1:19:17I'm not out on the air fryer, I mean.
- 1:19:18Public service announcement, yeah, but.
- 1:19:22No, I, I'll, I'll skillet up a a nice little salmon bacon.
- 1:19:27I actually, I take it back. I'm not even I'm not doing the
- 1:19:29skillet anymore with salmon. We've we've baked our last two
- 1:19:32salmon dinners way better. Way better.
- 1:19:37Really. But yeah, keep out, keep an eye
- 1:19:39out for those air fryers, but that's all I got.
- 1:19:42Good stuff. I'll go chasing curve balls.
- 1:19:44Le'veon is always looking forward to talking more baseball
- 1:19:46with you guys soon. Until next time, stay filthy.
