Transcript
- Thomas: You know, the NBA is expanding. You know, and I looked into it. It's been 82 games for a while, so I think it's going to stay 82 games. It's just going to be like playing the same teams less. I'm not going to lie. I don't need to see the same teams play five times in one week. But yeah, I know the Vegas team, man. What you thinking for the naming convention? What you think they're going to go with? Malcolm: Thank you. Thank you, bro. Finally, ⁓ I would like to think it's going to be something related to gambling or risk taking or like some type of something. feel like along the line, feel like that's just like Las Vegas. it has to be, I mean, cause Seattle, you already know you're going back to supersonics. That's a given. But Las Vegas, bro, I feel like you have to, I'm like, it's not like it'd be one thing if you went that way and the NBA wasn't like, you can't go. Thomas: I'm a risk taker. Yeah. Malcolm: watch NBA game without seeing the Draft Kings, ⁓ sports, some type of betting, like advertisement or endorsement throughout the program, like throughout the game. So the way that the NBA is kind of like leaning into gambling and prediction markets and stuff, I feel like it wouldn't be too far-fetched to name your expansion team, something related to that. And it's also Las Vegas, bro, like. I feel like it's kind of like on brand for them to have something like that. So something like was saying earlier, something like a high rollers, a card number or name outside of jokers. don't think jokers, like jokers doesn't make sense. I was looking at the, what do you call it? Like the odds for their next name, bro. And the names I'm seeing here, bro. I can't say I moved on all of them, bro. I'm not gonna lie to you. I'm seeing The Mirage as the top favorite. Las Vegas Mirage. Jokers. Las Vegas Venom. Las Vegas outlaws. I'm not mad at it. I'm not mad at outlaws. Las Vegas scorpions. Are scorpions in Las Vegas? Is there a single scorpion in Las Vegas? I mean it's a lot of desert. Yeah, I don't know man. Thomas: I don't know, they should call him. I know, I've only passed through the airport. This should call in the Vegas Vanguard. Malcolm: Vanguard isn't bad. I don't know what a Vanguard is though. Thomas: It's a Vanguard is the foremost part of an advancing army or leading figures in any movement field or So I feel like it would make sense especially if Ja ends up going there. I know this is like three years from now two years from now but. Malcolm: That's not bad. Now, was about to say though, is some rules when it to expansion team. So a couple of things. the NBA expansion draft will follow these rules if Seattle will win Seattle and Las Vegas into the league. Expansion teams will get to steal unprotected players from other teams. Teams can only protect eight of their players. So on the roster, you can only protect eight of your players. Teams cannot protect players on expiring contracts or restricted fee agents. Only one player can be taken per team. Contracts transfer as they are. And expansion teams get really, really good chances of getting ⁓ the number one pick in the NBA draft. So it's not like they're out of luck when they get created. They're going to have a pretty good chance at getting a hand as some good players. ⁓ But yeah, I know. I think this is what the NBA needed, bruh. I can't lie to you. Thomas: I don't know how this gonna work with like the draft stuff. I know the Thunder have a lot of like first round picks and like I'm sure a lot of teams have a lot of first round picks. So it's like, no, I'm just, I'm just thinking from a stance of like, if people already have rights to these picks, how are these expansion teams gonna fit in there? Malcolm: Please, if they get a top four pick this year, Next night. ⁓ yeah, I don't know. I don't know how that works as far as I know you can steal players. I don't know how it works with stealing. I don't know. Thomas: they're gonna have to like do something. Because let's say if all these teams have rights to all these picks, and I know there's still some level of like variance, but it's like, you still have guaranteed whatever first round, second round picks. It's like something gonna have to happen because you can't just tell the expansion teams, yeah, you gotta wait 10 years because you just came late to the party. That's tough. Malcolm: do. I don't know, bro. I don't know. If I was an owner though, I'd be really excited about the average.
