- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with I Heart Radio. G J. Watt just tweeted an
- 0:19Speaker 1: update on that injury. Will tell you what he put
- 0:23Speaker 1: online in a second, Also injury updates on Naji Harris
- 0:27Speaker 1: and Dak Prescott. Welcome to NFL Now on NFL Network,
- 0:32Speaker 1: right here from our newsroom in Los Angeles. My name
- 0:35Speaker 1: is Andrew Ceciliano. Coming up. We'll turn the page to
- 0:38Speaker 1: week two, as we will do every Tuesday this year,
- 0:41Speaker 1: but we can't do that without looking back on week one.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Just when you saw, or rather thought you have seen everything,
- 0:49Speaker 1: you saw how this game ended in Seattle. Yeah, they're
- 0:51Speaker 1: gonna boo Russell Wilson. He wanted to leave. It doesn't
- 0:54Speaker 1: mean they don't love him for what he did when
- 0:56Speaker 1: he was there. I don't know why this is such
- 0:58Speaker 1: a big deal. It was a big deal that Seattle
- 1:00Speaker 1: got out to the big early lead and then Russell
- 1:03Speaker 1: answered back with the sixties seven yard touchdown to Jerry Judy.
- 1:06Speaker 1: He had over a hundred yards. He is cooking and
- 1:09Speaker 1: we are backed. But they could not cook on the
- 1:12Speaker 1: goal line. Consecutive possessions where the Broncos turned it over
- 1:19Speaker 1: one a fumble, or rather Melvin Gordon stopped another one
- 1:22Speaker 1: of Javonte Williams fumble, and then it came down to this.
- 1:25Speaker 1: They run forty seconds off the clock at the very
- 1:28Speaker 1: end instead of going forward on fourth and five, and
- 1:30Speaker 1: Nathaniel Hackett, in his first game as an NFL head coach,
- 1:34Speaker 1: opts for a sixty four yard Brandon McManus field goal.
- 1:38Speaker 1: It was no good. It is a head scratcher, and
- 1:41Speaker 1: the Seahawks beat the Broncos seventeen sixteen. I believe in
- 1:47Speaker 1: coach Hacke. I believe what we're doing, um, you know,
- 1:49Speaker 1: and believe in everything. And uh, you know, anytime you
- 1:52Speaker 1: can try to find a way to make a play
- 1:54Speaker 1: in fourth and five, that's great too. But also I
- 1:56Speaker 1: think we I think I think it was the wrong decision.
- 1:58Speaker 1: You know, I think he can make it. Obviously hindsight,
- 2:00Speaker 1: you know, we didn't make it. But we're in that
- 2:02Speaker 1: situation again. I wouldn't doubt whatever he decided. We were
- 2:05Speaker 1: right on the line and he had plenty of distance,
- 2:06Speaker 1: you know, he he just missed it and so and
- 2:08Speaker 1: again that's hey, Brandon gave it his best shot. I mean,
- 2:11Speaker 1: that's a long field goal. To hit. I think he's
- 2:13Speaker 1: completely capable of that, but obviously I wish we would
- 2:16Speaker 1: have gotten a lot closer. But it put us in
- 2:18Speaker 1: that weird spot there because we were in the field
- 2:19Speaker 1: goal range, but we were on that fourth down situation.
- 2:22Speaker 1: UM didn't think we were gonna get that many yards.
- 2:24Speaker 1: So I thought it was a great job by Javante
- 2:26Speaker 1: and we just made the decision we want to take
- 2:27Speaker 1: our shot there on that one. Shelby, you were part
- 2:32Speaker 1: of this trade. And I know all the talk in
- 2:34Speaker 1: this heading into this game was about Russell Wilson, about
- 2:37Speaker 1: him coming back. When you heard that, you know, Smith Chance,
- 2:40Speaker 1: you heard what was going on in this building. What
- 2:43Speaker 1: kind of statement is this for this team? It's the
- 2:45Speaker 1: one in no statement. You know what I mean to
- 2:47Speaker 1: come out here. Everybody doubt of us. Everyone made this
- 2:50Speaker 1: about Russ You real me. We made this about the
- 2:52Speaker 1: Seattle Seahawks. Come out here, you know, play good ball.
- 2:55Speaker 1: The four quarters, come out to w Nobody stuck to
- 2:58Speaker 1: us to win. It stuffed us. It's always gonna be us.
- 3:01Speaker 1: The defensive line made a statement in the red zone.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Talk about the statement you got has made causing multiple
- 3:06Speaker 1: fumbles inside the five. Well That's what happens when you trained,
- 3:09Speaker 1: when your line into the other team. We sit here
- 3:12Speaker 1: and make plays, all of us. That's what happens when
- 3:14Speaker 1: you get to go line stops right there. A win.
- 3:19Speaker 1: I can't drive up any better than that. Man. Last
- 3:21Speaker 1: one is is a negative though, Jamal Adams going down
- 3:24Speaker 1: for you guys as a defense, how big of a
- 3:26Speaker 1: loss is that? For you guys, it's a huge loss.
- 3:28Speaker 1: And we're gonna do this to him, you know we are.
- 3:30Speaker 1: He was very integral part of our defense, and you
- 3:32Speaker 1: know we have to go out there and grind and
- 3:33Speaker 1: get this done for him. You know, we're all the
- 3:35Speaker 1: other stuff, other stuff out later, but you know we're
- 3:37Speaker 1: gonna join this one and know today, you know we
- 3:39Speaker 1: gotta come around and play Sam brand in a short
- 3:41Speaker 1: week by this this football baby, last one half of her.
- 3:45Speaker 1: I was standing on the sideline watching you go absolutely insane.
- 3:48Speaker 1: How much did this mean to you personally? All I
- 3:50Speaker 1: have to say is, let's ride, love it, Let's ride.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Shelby Harris, one of my favorite people, by the way,
- 3:59Speaker 1: great interview, James Palmer who's now with us here, Jeff
- 4:02Speaker 1: Jade as well. We'll get to Gino at a second,
- 4:04Speaker 1: and we'll get to Jamal Adams what you're talking about
- 4:06Speaker 1: there with the injury in a second. Um, But let's
- 4:09Speaker 1: let's talk about the decision making process here. It is
- 4:13Speaker 1: a is a It is a head scratcher. James and
- 4:15Speaker 1: even Joe Bucks said that they get They came on
- 4:17Speaker 1: camera in the booth there with Troy Aikman, and then
- 4:20Speaker 1: all of a sudden they hear in their air they're
- 4:22Speaker 1: going for the field goal, Like what Yeah, And it
- 4:26Speaker 1: wasn't just the booth. Andrew Pete Carroll and his group
- 4:28Speaker 1: were preparing to try to make a stop on fourth
- 4:30Speaker 1: and five because they thought there was no way Russell
- 4:33Speaker 1: Wilson was not gonna be out there trying to move
- 4:36Speaker 1: the football and continue this drive to get them closer
- 4:38Speaker 1: into field goal range. But this was the thinking. Prior
- 4:40Speaker 1: to the drive. Nathaniel Hacket and kicker Brandon McManus had
- 4:43Speaker 1: a conversation. McManus said, if you get me to the
- 4:45Speaker 1: forty six on the left, hash, I feel comfortable with
- 4:48Speaker 1: the sixty four yard field goal on this play right
- 4:50Speaker 1: here with Javonta Williams. That's exactly what he does. He
- 4:53Speaker 1: gets them to that exact spot now you heard him
- 4:55Speaker 1: what Hackett said just a couple of seconds ago. If
- 4:58Speaker 1: he wouldn't have gotten nine yards and it would have
- 5:00Speaker 1: been a fourth and seven, fourth and eight, he would
- 5:03Speaker 1: have gone on with Russell Wilson on the field and
- 5:06Speaker 1: gone forward on fourth down. But since they were in
- 5:08Speaker 1: that spot, they decided the best option was to kick
- 5:11Speaker 1: the field goal, and they end up missing it very closely,
- 5:13Speaker 1: I will say, from sixty four yards. But it was
- 5:15Speaker 1: a sloppy game for the Denver Broncos. They had twelve
- 5:18Speaker 1: penalties for a hundred and six yards, and three main
- 5:20Speaker 1: things stood out after I talked to numerous players in
- 5:22Speaker 1: the locker room. One they didn't play in the preseason
- 5:25Speaker 1: at all, not a single snap, and guys on the
- 5:26Speaker 1: defensive side of the ball told me that's why they
- 5:28Speaker 1: didn't tackle well early. That's why they had communication issues
- 5:31Speaker 1: in the secondary. Now they fixed those. They only gave
- 5:33Speaker 1: up one point six yards of play in the second half.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Another one was the noise. The noise was a big
- 5:38Speaker 1: issue with their false starts, with their delay of games.
- 5:41Speaker 1: It also was a big part of the Javanti Williams
- 5:43Speaker 1: fumble to where Graham Glasgow didn't get the audible Andrew
- 5:46Speaker 1: to where it was going from a pass play to
- 5:47Speaker 1: a run play, so he went into a pass set
- 5:49Speaker 1: and that led to that fumble. So they were very
- 5:52Speaker 1: sloppy and how they managed throughout this game, but they
- 5:55Speaker 1: still ended up only losing by a point on the road. Yeah,
- 5:58Speaker 1: it was a good kick. I mean it looked like
- 6:00Speaker 1: it had the distance. It was a little bit left.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Adrian and research pointed out that in the one than
- 6:05Speaker 1: three year history of the NFL kickers, kickers collectively are
- 6:09Speaker 1: two for forty two from sixty four yards. Not a
- 6:14Speaker 1: good stat and beyond, he almost made it. If he
- 6:17Speaker 1: did make it, we'd be sitting here today talking about
- 6:19Speaker 1: what what a guts he call. He had faith in
- 6:22Speaker 1: his kicker, Jeff Chitty. In meantime, Pete Carroll has been
- 6:25Speaker 1: out of it. He has faith in Geno Smith. That
- 6:28Speaker 1: faith was rewarded last night. That's right, Andrew. That kid
- 6:33Speaker 1: goes through. We're not talking about Geno Smith today as
- 6:35Speaker 1: we should be, because he played a great game. You know,
- 6:38Speaker 1: you talked and Pete Carroll has been a huge advocate
- 6:41Speaker 1: for him, and maybe the way this training camp battle
- 6:44Speaker 1: went down with him and Drew Lock solidified and stabilized
- 6:47Speaker 1: his game because he talked a lot about in the
- 6:49Speaker 1: offseason about being a different type of quarterback now, being
- 6:52Speaker 1: somebody who understands the importance of protecting the football making
- 6:56Speaker 1: the right play. You saw in that first half and
- 6:58Speaker 1: he went seventeen for eighteen, really made some good play
- 7:01Speaker 1: with his arms, some big plays down the field, but
- 7:03Speaker 1: also took care of the football and gave his team
- 7:05Speaker 1: a chance to be in this game to win it late.
- 7:08Speaker 1: And so after the game, you know, Smith said like, look,
- 7:10Speaker 1: I feel like people wrote me off. People talked about
- 7:12Speaker 1: me being done and having played in bad football. But
- 7:15Speaker 1: this is a great place to be in. Pete Carroll
- 7:17Speaker 1: said it himself, Geno Smith is playing the best football
- 7:20Speaker 1: he's ever played right now. You saw it on Monday
- 7:22Speaker 1: Night line from Gino on the field afterwards. What do
- 7:25Speaker 1: you say to people who wrote you off? He said,
- 7:27Speaker 1: they wrote me off, but I ain't write them back.
- 7:29Speaker 1: He completed his first thirteen passes last night. And if
- 7:33Speaker 1: you think that's a fluke, go back to his last
- 7:35Speaker 1: start last year before Russell Wilson came back from injury.
- 7:39Speaker 1: In that game against Jacksonville, Geno Smith completed his first
- 7:43Speaker 1: fourteen passes, so we have a trend. Speaking of Russell Wilson, James,
- 7:49Speaker 1: you mentioned the strategy portion of it. How about the
- 7:52Speaker 1: mood overall in the Denver locker locker room after a
- 7:56Speaker 1: heartbreaker and Andrew real quick on Geno Smith if he
- 7:59Speaker 1: prepared that line ahead of time, I don't care. It
- 8:00Speaker 1: was super smooth. Yea. Everyone the mood in the locker
- 8:05Speaker 1: room was pretty dejected. And I would say, just from
- 8:07Speaker 1: my personal opinion in walking through that locker room and
- 8:10Speaker 1: spending some time there, Nathaniel Hackett took it harder than
- 8:12Speaker 1: probably any of the players, going around that room, hugging
- 8:15Speaker 1: players individually after the game and and kind of, you know,
- 8:18Speaker 1: trying to pick them up a little bit. But when
- 8:19Speaker 1: I had long conversations with say Courtland Sutton or Melvin
- 8:22Speaker 1: Gordon or Kareem Jackson, they all kind of told me
- 8:24Speaker 1: the same thing. If we played that bad and we
- 8:26Speaker 1: lose for a point, we're in pretty good space. They
- 8:29Speaker 1: fumbled the football twice on the one yard line. This
- 8:32Speaker 1: could be in a very different game. And if they
- 8:34Speaker 1: clean up some of these mistakes. They saw what this
- 8:36Speaker 1: offense can do with Russell Wilson be able to move
- 8:39Speaker 1: the football in a manner in which they haven't seen
- 8:41Speaker 1: for some time. And Melvin Gordon said, we knew we
- 8:43Speaker 1: were the best team on the field, we just made
- 8:45Speaker 1: more mistake and he understands that if you make more mistakes,
- 8:48Speaker 1: you lose games. But as the locker room kind of
- 8:50Speaker 1: sat there Andrew, they started to pick themselves up a
- 8:52Speaker 1: little bit because they realized what Russell Wilson is capable
- 8:55Speaker 1: of doing when he's on the field. Those twelve penalties
- 8:59Speaker 1: accepted against the Broncos the most for any team not
- 9:03Speaker 1: named the Jaguars week number one, so that is one
- 9:07Speaker 1: of the things they can certainly look to clean up
- 9:09Speaker 1: heading into week number two. James Palmer, Jeff Chidiya, thank
- 9:12Speaker 1: you both. Let's get some other news here into our newsroom.
- 9:15Speaker 1: News right now, New right now, Tom Bella, Sero, Mike Arra, Folo, Mike,
- 9:21Speaker 1: start with you. News on the injury we mentioned earlier
- 9:24Speaker 1: about Jamal from or four rather Jamal Adams. I'll get straight.
- 9:29Speaker 1: What do we know? Yes, Uh, it was announced as
- 9:32Speaker 1: a quad injury last night. Pete Carroll saying on the
- 9:35Speaker 1: radio in Seattle today that Adams needs some work done
- 9:39Speaker 1: on his knee, while the quad connects down by the
- 9:41Speaker 1: knees to find Gilmore had an injury to the quad
- 9:44Speaker 1: ten than a couple of years ago. That's what connects it.
- 9:46Speaker 1: So it sounds like that's what ruptured on this one.
- 9:49Speaker 1: My understanding is the Seahawks are still waiting on final
- 9:51Speaker 1: imaging before they make a determination on whether Jamal Adams
- 9:55Speaker 1: will return this season. But you can hear Pete Carroll's
- 9:58Speaker 1: tone last night today when he spoke on the radio,
- 10:01Speaker 1: every indication that this is going to wind up being
- 10:04Speaker 1: a season ending thing. And Carol said that Adams was
- 10:06Speaker 1: very distraught wondering why these injuries keep happening to him.
- 10:10Speaker 1: He said he had his parents in the locker room
- 10:12Speaker 1: with him to help console him. So it sounds like
- 10:14Speaker 1: it's going to be a very frustrating result once that
- 10:16Speaker 1: final imaging comes in for Jamal Adams. So frustrating certainly
- 10:20Speaker 1: there for Jamal Adams, and not a lot of optimism
- 10:22Speaker 1: right now. Tom. Conversely, there is optimism today in Dallas
- 10:28Speaker 1: in regards to Dak Prescott's recovery. That's right, Andrew. Was
- 10:32Speaker 1: all good news out of the surgery that Dak Prescott
- 10:35Speaker 1: underwent on Monday to repair that fractured thumb on his
- 10:39Speaker 1: throwing hand. My understanding is the timeline now is four
- 10:43Speaker 1: to six weeks for Dak Prescott to be on the field.
- 10:46Speaker 1: It was a clean surgery. The doctors are optimistic, and
- 10:50Speaker 1: Dak has always been a fast healer. Jerry Jones went
- 10:53Speaker 1: on the radio today in Dallas and sounds even more
- 10:55Speaker 1: optimistic than that, saying that they're not going to put
- 10:58Speaker 1: Dak on injury reserve and they want to keep the
- 11:00Speaker 1: door open for him to play even within the next
- 11:03Speaker 1: four games, which is how long he'd to sit out
- 11:05Speaker 1: if he were on i R. Realistically, what this really
- 11:09Speaker 1: does is it allows Dak to practice. There are certain
- 11:12Speaker 1: things he may be able to do, mental reps, things
- 11:14Speaker 1: that don't evolve throwing the football, and practice. In the
- 11:16Speaker 1: short term, they want to ramp him up, so somewhere
- 11:18Speaker 1: between that four to six week window, they expect him
- 11:21Speaker 1: back in the lineup, meaning he's back before the week
- 11:23Speaker 1: nine by maybe even back for what's potentially a big
- 11:26Speaker 1: game October sixteen at Philadelphia. Yeah, similar to what the
- 11:30Speaker 1: Jets are doing with Zach Wilson, not putting him on
- 11:32Speaker 1: in your reserve even though they know he's not gonna
- 11:34Speaker 1: play for a couple of weeks, so he can do
- 11:36Speaker 1: anything he could possibly do in practice. Meanwhile, another quarterback
- 11:39Speaker 1: injury that we were watching is Patrick Mahomes. They've got
- 11:42Speaker 1: a short week this week, the Chiefs do. They've got
- 11:43Speaker 1: that Chargers game on Thursday. He had that left wrist
- 11:46Speaker 1: injury after this hit on Sunday that you're seeing. He
- 11:49Speaker 1: had it wrapped up. They took X rays afterward. Mahomes
- 11:51Speaker 1: spoke to the media today and said it was hurting
- 11:54Speaker 1: a little bit yesterday but feeling much better today. He
- 11:58Speaker 1: and Edie Reid expressing zero concerned that he is going
- 12:01Speaker 1: to be out there. It is his non throwing hand,
- 12:04Speaker 1: unless us yet consider the left handed past a couple
- 12:07Speaker 1: of years ago in the Denver game on a Monday night,
- 12:10Speaker 1: then it's his sometimes throwing hand, but most of the
- 12:13Speaker 1: time he likes to throw with the right hand, sometimes
- 12:15Speaker 1: not looking, sometimes side arm. Everybody seemed to think, my
- 12:19Speaker 1: Patrick Hoome is gonna be just fine. Tom As for
- 12:22Speaker 1: Chargers star receiver Keenan Allen, my understanding is it's unlikely
- 12:26Speaker 1: he is going to play in that Thursday night game
- 12:28Speaker 1: against the Chiefs, just four days after suffering a hamstring injury. However,
- 12:33Speaker 1: based on the test that Allen underwent, there is optimism
- 12:36Speaker 1: that this is nothing long term. The next game for
- 12:38Speaker 1: the Chargers September against the Jaguars, it will be a
- 12:42Speaker 1: full two weeks after he suffered the initial injury. The
- 12:44Speaker 1: Chargers have not formally ruled out Keenan Allen for Thursday Night.
- 12:48Speaker 1: He's surprised him before with a similar type of an injury.
- 12:51Speaker 1: They thought he was out, he ended up playing again.
- 12:53Speaker 1: Sounds unlikely for Thursday Night, but he should be back
- 12:56Speaker 1: in action sooner than later. Andrew, Yeah, hamstrings not a
- 12:59Speaker 1: short week that that's a bad combination here, but it
- 13:03Speaker 1: sounds again opt Mr Grew. They have some optimism that
- 13:07Speaker 1: Keenan Allen might be back sooner rather than later. Thank you,
- 13:09Speaker 1: Tom Placeo and Mike Garrel follow Joe fismand gets his
- 13:15Speaker 1: a football life treatment well deserved. Joe is gonna join
- 13:19Speaker 1: us next NFL. Now I walk out on that football
- 13:23Speaker 1: field and man, because memories come back like yesterday, Oh
- 13:28Speaker 1: what a play. People can think they would sell for them, Joe,
- 13:31Speaker 1: timand they were not Joe's injury. It's something that people
- 13:35Speaker 1: just don't forget. I was discerned because I had a
- 13:38Speaker 1: lot of respect for you. We don't go out there
- 13:40Speaker 1: to hurt people. What happened to me changed my perspective
- 13:43Speaker 1: on life. They don't me to become a better person.
- 13:52Speaker 1: This guy's getting his a football life treatment later this week,
- 13:56Speaker 1: well deserved. Former NFL m v P champion of Super
- 14:01Speaker 1: Bowl seventeen, a two time Pro Bowl selection, decades as
- 14:06Speaker 1: a broadcaster, Our former colleague here at NFL Network, a
- 14:12Speaker 1: guy that just had a birthday a couple of days
- 14:15Speaker 1: ago as well. Brian Buldinger is with us to say
- 14:18Speaker 1: hi to our good friend Joe Fiseman. It's good to
- 14:22Speaker 1: see you, Joe. Thank you, Andrew. I appreciate it today.
- 14:25Speaker 1: I guess it's been a pretty good week for me
- 14:27Speaker 1: so far with the birthday and now, I mean, I'm
- 14:31Speaker 1: just I'm absolutely flattered and humbled um of the football
- 14:36Speaker 1: life that comes out on Friday Night. I mean, it's
- 14:38Speaker 1: just I've seen so many of them, and it just
- 14:41Speaker 1: gives you such an incredible perspective of the men that
- 14:44Speaker 1: they've done before, and I'm so excited about the opportunity,
- 14:48Speaker 1: I guess to join that group. Now, your life is
- 14:51Speaker 1: so much more than an injury obviously, but we saw
- 14:54Speaker 1: going to commercial a few minutes ago, you standing there
- 14:57Speaker 1: talking to Lawrence Taylor about that faithful Night and you
- 15:01Speaker 1: said something, Joe that stuck with me. You said that
- 15:04Speaker 1: it changed a perspective on life. How um I had
- 15:10Speaker 1: with all the success that I enjoyed in the world
- 15:13Speaker 1: of football, I think I became very self absorbed and
- 15:17Speaker 1: almost entitled to a degree, And when and you sort
- 15:21Speaker 1: of hold that close to you and you say, this
- 15:23Speaker 1: is who I'm, this is who I'm defined as, this
- 15:25Speaker 1: is who I am, and then all of a sudden,
- 15:28Speaker 1: it's gone. In an instant, I mean a snap of
- 15:30Speaker 1: a finger. It's over, and everything that you thought was
- 15:33Speaker 1: really important in your life isn't there. And it really
- 15:37Speaker 1: forces you to take a look at who you are
- 15:39Speaker 1: as a person and the people around you and the
- 15:42Speaker 1: things that really should be important in your life. And
- 15:44Speaker 1: that's what that you know, that's what they call it
- 15:46Speaker 1: an accident. That's what the injury basically did for me.
- 15:50Speaker 1: It it slammed my feet down on the ground and
- 15:52Speaker 1: gave me a different perspective of life. Joe, you were
- 15:55Speaker 1: decorated quarterback coming out of Notre Dame. Didn't go directly
- 15:58Speaker 1: to the NFL. Joe, you went to the Canadian Football League.
- 16:01Speaker 1: How to toil up there for a few years. What
- 16:03Speaker 1: did that experience do for you as a quarterback once
- 16:06Speaker 1: you came to the NFL. Well, the big thing is,
- 16:10Speaker 1: you know, I'm a big believer. If you sit and
- 16:11Speaker 1: read a book about tennis and then you think you
- 16:13Speaker 1: can go play Rafael Nadal, You're probably not gonna do
- 16:17Speaker 1: very well. But if you have a chance to be
- 16:19Speaker 1: able to continue to work and work on your trade,
- 16:22Speaker 1: to be able to go out and take snaps, to
- 16:25Speaker 1: study film, to look at defense is whether it was
- 16:27Speaker 1: the Canadian League or in college or even at the
- 16:30Speaker 1: professional level here, you're at least having a chance to
- 16:33Speaker 1: work on your skill set. And so really my three
- 16:35Speaker 1: years in Toronto were priceless for me, and I loved
- 16:38Speaker 1: it up there. A matter of fact, I'd considered staying,
- 16:40Speaker 1: but the Argonauts wanted to move on in a different direction.
- 16:44Speaker 1: But it gave me a chance to actually play football.
- 16:47Speaker 1: It got me into the football moments, the two minute drills.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Even though the rules are a bit different, the game
- 16:52Speaker 1: isn't that much different. Joe, thisman joining us his a
- 16:55Speaker 1: football life debuting this Friday, Joe, It's always good to
- 16:58Speaker 1: pick your brain as well as to the current Washington
- 17:02Speaker 1: quarterback now a commander quarterback command Or Carson made his
- 17:06Speaker 1: debut on Sunday. What do you think of the four
- 17:09Speaker 1: touchdowns and the two picks? I think, Andrew, you have
- 17:13Speaker 1: to look at the body of the entire game to
- 17:16Speaker 1: really get a feel for Carson and what he accomplished
- 17:20Speaker 1: in that particular game. Uh. He came out and made
- 17:23Speaker 1: smart decisions with the ball in his hands, through the
- 17:26Speaker 1: ball accurately most of the time. Some of them got away,
- 17:29Speaker 1: but in every quarterbacks life, the ball gets away. I mean,
- 17:32Speaker 1: and yet we're at the stage when it comes to
- 17:34Speaker 1: analyzing quarterbacks it's every throw is scrutinized to the nth degree,
- 17:39Speaker 1: which I would say isn't necessarily fair, but that's just
- 17:42Speaker 1: the way things are. And then he had the adversity,
- 17:45Speaker 1: you know, through the couple of interceptions, and then came
- 17:47Speaker 1: back in the fourth quarter and managed to throw some
- 17:50Speaker 1: really really great touch passes. And I mean when you
- 17:52Speaker 1: look at Terry and John and and Uh, I mean,
- 17:56Speaker 1: she was what we were able to do with Curtis
- 17:59Speaker 1: uh in this offense was just exciting. And the thing
- 18:03Speaker 1: I think people criticized uh Carson about so much was
- 18:07Speaker 1: the decisions that he made when things got a little
- 18:10Speaker 1: crazy with the ball in his hands, and I thought
- 18:13Speaker 1: he protected the ball extremely well through through a lot
- 18:16Speaker 1: of pressure in that football game. And especially you know,
- 18:19Speaker 1: when when you've been criticized as much as he has
- 18:22Speaker 1: and went through what he went through the last couple
- 18:24Speaker 1: of games last year, you get behind and you you know,
- 18:28Speaker 1: is their self doubt, you know, do you say, oh gosh,
- 18:31Speaker 1: here it goes again? And he really never did. He
- 18:33Speaker 1: just stayed with it. And so I was impressed with
- 18:35Speaker 1: his mental toughness. I was impressed with the way through
- 18:38Speaker 1: the football and the decisions that he made through the
- 18:40Speaker 1: course of the entire football game. Joe, that decade that
- 18:45Speaker 1: you had in the eighties, you're part of that decade
- 18:47Speaker 1: in the eighties with Super bowls. Um, you know you
- 18:51Speaker 1: had you had a fun bunch. You know, you had
- 18:53Speaker 1: Aren't Monk and Charlie Brown. You had a group like
- 18:55Speaker 1: when you watch this group and you just mentioned some
- 18:58Speaker 1: of the names, Johan Dotson, the rookie, and Curtis Samuel
- 19:00Speaker 1: and of course McClaren does it give you any Washington
- 19:06Speaker 1: commander fan hope that maybe this could be the new
- 19:09Speaker 1: fund bunch in Washington right now. It really does ball
- 19:13Speaker 1: the you know, and and every one of them contributed.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Curtis was a big part of that offense. Terry Terry
- 19:18Speaker 1: shows up like Terry does with big plays when he
- 19:21Speaker 1: needs it, and Johan was the same way. The one
- 19:23Speaker 1: thing that uh as an analyst as I was watching
- 19:26Speaker 1: the game, his first touchdown pass, Johan Dotson's first touchdown pass.
- 19:30Speaker 1: A lot of times receivers will catch the ball in
- 19:33Speaker 1: the end zone and they'll hang the ball out a
- 19:35Speaker 1: little bit and the defender will knock it away. As
- 19:39Speaker 1: soon as he caught the ball, he snatched it into
- 19:41Speaker 1: his body, looked down to make sure he could get
- 19:44Speaker 1: his feet in bounds. And and to me, you know,
- 19:47Speaker 1: you hear this so often when we talk about young receivers,
- 19:50Speaker 1: you know, mature beyond his years. He understands how to
- 19:53Speaker 1: play football. He understands how to play the wide receiver position.
- 19:57Speaker 1: And so you look at what they have out there,
- 19:59Speaker 1: and I get excited about I mean, Alvin and Virgil
- 20:02Speaker 1: were little guys. They were five ft eight, five ft nine.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Charlie was about six ft aren't maybe six one? Uh?
- 20:08Speaker 1: Those were my four guys. And then Gary Clark came
- 20:10Speaker 1: in after that. Again not a big receiver. So I
- 20:14Speaker 1: like in this group a little bit too white like
- 20:16Speaker 1: what we had Alvin Garrett, Virgil Say Downtown, Charlie Brown,
- 20:20Speaker 1: and you mentioned Art Monk, who will be a part
- 20:23Speaker 1: of your A football life coming up Friday, nine pm
- 20:27Speaker 1: Eastern time. Joe, happy birthday again. Can't wait to see
- 20:30Speaker 1: it on Friday. Good to talk to you. Thanks guys.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Great to hit me up. I got a couple of
- 20:34Speaker 1: stock tips for you. I got a couple of stock
- 20:36Speaker 1: tip for you. Joe, hit me up. Can we do
- 20:38Speaker 1: a group text? Baldy? I need your stock tips as
- 20:40Speaker 1: well past performance necessarily in ticket of future gains. Thank
- 20:44Speaker 1: you Joe, Thank you Baldy. We continue on NFL now
- 20:47Speaker 1: coming up next, how about future gains? When it comes
- 20:50Speaker 1: to power rankings, Pansas is here. We've readjusted the numbers.
- 20:57Speaker 1: That's next. They asking me all these questions. I'm respawn
- 21:01Speaker 1: with it. Question. Look, it's been a minute. It's a
- 21:05Speaker 1: doom this way, Like I don't believe I can have
- 21:07Speaker 1: a bad take to kick it up and cart the
- 21:16Speaker 1: Texas got the bullet blank a chip messing for the
- 21:20Speaker 1: zo the doxas to commers, well, Loots puts the same
- 21:26Speaker 1: off top for nineteen seconds to playing sixty four yards
- 21:31Speaker 1: to win the game. Kick it up in his block.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Now it's over experiencing on for the extra point x
- 21:38Speaker 1: blocks lot a turn of offense from turning on yards away.
- 21:42Speaker 1: We missed it badly, class we God, what is happening here?
- 21:49Speaker 1: He gets another chance. That's out winner. Iron eagle is awesome,
- 21:55Speaker 1: by the way, Free acid also awesome. The power rankings
- 22:00Speaker 1: and the fact that Dan ANSAs is able to come
- 22:02Speaker 1: here every Tuesday to discussed, not to argue, to discuss.
- 22:05Speaker 1: The Bills are still number one. The RAM dropped down
- 22:07Speaker 1: a couple of spots after losing two. Said Bills close
- 22:10Speaker 1: for a half, not close in the second. How about
- 22:12Speaker 1: the chef Tones, the mighty mighty chef Tones. Is my
- 22:15Speaker 1: friend Jason Mark, big Chiefs fan, used to say, high
- 22:18Speaker 1: hand zuos. They are up five to number two, right
- 22:22Speaker 1: behind the Bills in the week two recalibration. Yeah, and
- 22:26Speaker 1: that's an easy one. That was the easiest one. In
- 22:28Speaker 1: the Chiefs. Moving the Chiefs to number two was a
- 22:31Speaker 1: no brainer. Because they showed immediately where they were as
- 22:36Speaker 1: an offense without Tyreek Hill. The fact that he was
- 22:39Speaker 1: able to complete um five touchdown passes to four different receivers.
- 22:44Speaker 1: This was it was too easy for Patrick Mahomes and
- 22:46Speaker 1: I really got to say, like all this that just
- 22:48Speaker 1: put everything to bed, the summer narrative and a reminder
- 22:51Speaker 1: that Andy Reid, even though he looks like a kindly
- 22:53Speaker 1: old grandfather at this point, like Bill Belichick, he goes
- 22:56Speaker 1: into the lab and he cooks up whole new schemes
- 22:59Speaker 1: that have been baffling coaches for decades. You give him
- 23:03Speaker 1: six months to work on a week one game plan.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Andy Reid is not going to lose. You're done, You're looked. Conversely,
- 23:09Speaker 1: we saw it happen to the Cardinals. They drop in,
- 23:11Speaker 1: the Chiefs go up big. Vikings also go up big.
- 23:15Speaker 1: Kevin O'Connell, major kudos to your big win in your
- 23:19Speaker 1: debut over the Packers. Here they're now a top ten
- 23:23Speaker 1: team in your eyes there at seven. Yeah, and I'm
- 23:26Speaker 1: looking at the top ten. I'm putting the list together
- 23:28Speaker 1: and I'm like, should do this? Are you second guessing it? No?
- 23:31Speaker 1: Not at all. I was like, Yeah, I should do
- 23:32Speaker 1: this because this was a performance by the Vikings that
- 23:36Speaker 1: should open eyes. And I know the Packers are a
- 23:38Speaker 1: bit of a work in progress as they are post
- 23:40Speaker 1: Davante Adams. But Andrew, you're a football guy, obviously, look
- 23:45Speaker 1: what you do for a living. How many m vps
- 23:48Speaker 1: wide receivers NFL history zero? Never, It's never happened. Why
- 23:53Speaker 1: can't it happen this year? I think Justin Jefferson could
- 23:55Speaker 1: flirt with two thousand yards this season. And if they
- 23:58Speaker 1: get that type of defense that they have gotten not
- 24:01Speaker 1: gotten a lot of with Kirk Cousins there, the Vikings
- 24:03Speaker 1: have a chance to be a really special sill contender,
- 24:06Speaker 1: like a superpower. Their ceiling here my two in you
- 24:10Speaker 1: think caught up? I mean I think it's one week
- 24:13Speaker 1: and I do give them all the credit in the world.
- 24:15Speaker 1: I also think we could have like an Aaron Rodgers
- 24:18Speaker 1: r E L A X meme not only for their performance,
- 24:21Speaker 1: but for the Vikings performance. I think we'll find out
- 24:23Speaker 1: a lot Monday night when they go play the Eagles.
- 24:24Speaker 1: But Justin Jefferson, Justin Jefferson's not just a week one thing.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Four yards of separation is eleven targets, which is pretty impressive.
- 24:32Speaker 1: And yeah, that also has to do with scheme offensively
- 24:34Speaker 1: and defensively, what Joe Barry was doing. Um, let's look
- 24:37Speaker 1: at the forty Niners. You dropped them big after losing
- 24:40Speaker 1: the rain down to eleven, but you only dropped Green
- 24:42Speaker 1: Bay two down to eight. Yeah, miakalpatime I had the
- 24:48Speaker 1: Niners at three entering the season, got some pushback on it.
- 24:51Speaker 1: I'm not afraid to say, okay after one game, and
- 24:54Speaker 1: then yes, it was in a monsoon. Maybe too much
- 24:56Speaker 1: of a projection because we still need to see Trey
- 24:59Speaker 1: Lands as a man that can move an offense down
- 25:02Speaker 1: the field. And again, this is a hold up. It's
- 25:04Speaker 1: we one situation because of the conditions and soldier field.
- 25:08Speaker 1: But I saw similar things that we saw last year
- 25:10Speaker 1: in Lance's a little limited time. He's already a playmaker
- 25:13Speaker 1: with his legs. We've already seen that when they need
- 25:15Speaker 1: yards he can get them. But can he make the throws?
- 25:18Speaker 1: And Tyler Croft was missed on what should have been
- 25:20Speaker 1: a touchdown at one point. They have their work in
- 25:23Speaker 1: progress in their passing game. But still the fact that
- 25:26Speaker 1: they're sitting at eleven, I'm okay with him even after
- 25:28Speaker 1: a loss to the Bears. Okay, and finally we have
- 25:31Speaker 1: the Cowboys. They lost, didn't look good, lost their quarterback
- 25:34Speaker 1: as well. You are in a Cooper Rush to drop
- 25:38Speaker 1: them all the way down to twenty seven. Yeah, I
- 25:42Speaker 1: had to rush to action on that one. And I
- 25:44Speaker 1: feel bad because Cooper Rush is probably a great guy,
- 25:46Speaker 1: or maybe is I don't know. But the fact that
- 25:49Speaker 1: you're going from Dac to Cooper Rush with that offensive
- 25:52Speaker 1: line and that dearth of playmakers outside CD Lamb, who,
- 25:56Speaker 1: by the way, he didn't step up himself in Week
- 25:58Speaker 1: one against the Bucks, makes me think the Cowboys are
- 26:01Speaker 1: in a little bit of trouble, a lot of bit
- 26:02Speaker 1: of trouble. Here is their next UH four game, Cincinnati
- 26:06Speaker 1: at Giants, Washington at Carolina. I think two three when
- 26:11Speaker 1: Dak gets back is best case scenario. I think one
- 26:14Speaker 1: in four is very possible. I think one in five
- 26:17Speaker 1: or oh and five is within the range of outcomes
- 26:19Speaker 1: that is not implausible. I have five seconds, you have
- 26:21Speaker 1: your jets at thirty two. Robert Sali says he's keeping receipts.
- 26:25Speaker 1: You're one of them. No more receipts. Don't worry about
- 26:27Speaker 1: receipts results. Let's go. It's been enough. It's been enough.
- 26:31Speaker 1: It's time to be competitive. Jets were waiting. My dad
- 26:34Speaker 1: sat in the rain, seventy thou people in MetLife Stadium.
- 26:37Speaker 1: We just wanted something to cheer for and there was nothing. Results,
- 26:42Speaker 1: not resipts. I have the receipts. That was more than
- 26:44Speaker 1: five seconds. Dan Handshu's now a podcast, The Power Rankings
- 26:47Speaker 1: with con Go check it out wherever you get your
- 26:52Speaker 1: podcast coming up, thinking out loud about what went down
- 26:57Speaker 1: and what went wrong last night in Seattle, aft are
- 27:05Speaker 1: missing what could have been a game winning over time
- 27:08Speaker 1: forty two yard field goal. This past Sunday, Tom Pella
- 27:11Speaker 1: Sero reports the Colts are waving kicker Rodrigo blanketship again.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Rodrigo blanket ship out. The Colts are o O and one.
- 27:22Speaker 1: Randon mcmadus also missed that kick, but it was from
- 27:25Speaker 1: sixty four yards away and Gino Smith and the Seahawks
- 27:28Speaker 1: one that you heard what Gino said afterwards. Dwayne Wade
- 27:31Speaker 1: loved it as well. They wrote me off, but I
- 27:33Speaker 1: didn't write the heck okay, Gino, you know, to quote
- 27:39Speaker 1: my friend Kevin Clark, the Seahawks have literally never played
- 27:44Speaker 1: a normal game but this one was different. This time
- 27:47Speaker 1: it was the other team turning it over twice on
- 27:50Speaker 1: the goal line. This time it was the other team
- 27:53Speaker 1: with an inexplicable final sequence that left the football world
- 27:56Speaker 1: and probably you at home, saying what just happened? Now?
- 28:00Speaker 1: I am not going to be the one to sit
- 28:01Speaker 1: here in tile on Nathaniel Hacket. Enough people are doing that.
- 28:04Speaker 1: But consider Brian Dable did Sunday in Nashville Table also
- 28:08Speaker 1: in his first game as an NFL head coach after
- 28:10Speaker 1: years as a respected assistant, showed faith in his franchise
- 28:14Speaker 1: running back. He showed faith in his office, and he
- 28:16Speaker 1: went for the win. He gave say Quon the ball
- 28:19Speaker 1: and look how it paid off. Emotionally, it would have
- 28:22Speaker 1: been great to see Hackett showed the same faith in
- 28:25Speaker 1: Russell Wilson, who had thrown for three hit from forty yards,
- 28:28Speaker 1: who was averaging over eight yards in attempt. They only
- 28:30Speaker 1: needed five to show faith in an offense that had
- 28:34Speaker 1: produced fifteen plays of ten yards or more. If Brandon
- 28:38Speaker 1: McManus makes the kick, I know this conversation them for happens,
- 28:42Speaker 1: But you were asking him to hit the second longest
- 28:45Speaker 1: field goal in the one hundred and three year history
- 28:48Speaker 1: of the National Football League. I know it's only one game,
- 28:51Speaker 1: and I know that they have six team more left,
- 28:53Speaker 1: but in the best division in football, where the Chiefs
- 28:56Speaker 1: one and the Chargers won, this game will matter in January,
- 29:02Speaker 1: but the optics matter now. NFL Now is a production
