- 0:00Welcome to Future Forward, the podcast, well,
- 0:03the podcast all about strategic development.
- 0:05Hi, everyone. Today, we are turning our attention
- 0:08to Dubai, where a huge investment is set to secure
- 0:12a really vital resource. That is absolutely right,
- 0:15Alex. Right. So the Dubai Electricity and Water
- 0:19Authority, you know, Diwa, has just awarded a
- 0:21contract worth, get this, AED $216 million. It's
- 0:27for a strategic project to boost the efficiency
- 0:29and the reliability of Dubai's water transmission
- 0:32networks. And this isn't just like routine maintenance,
- 0:36is it? No, not at all. The contract includes
- 0:39the supply, installation, testing, all of it
- 0:42for these glass -reinforced epoxy, or GRE, pipelines,
- 0:46all different diameters. Wow. And that's along
- 0:49with all the other associated works happening
- 0:51across, well, multiple locations in the Emirate.
- 0:54And you can really tell how strategically important
- 0:57this is. I mean, it was highlighted by Diwa's
- 0:59leadership right from the top. Okay. Yeah, His
- 1:03Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al -Tayr, the MD and
- 1:06CEO, he emphasized that, and I'm quoting here.
- 1:09Let's hear it. Diwa is committed to enhancing
- 1:12production and operational efficiency, all while
- 1:15strengthening the reliability of Dubai's water
- 1:17transmission networks. Hmm. And this is all in
- 1:21support of the Emirates' sustainable development
- 1:23goals. It's a big picture thing. Wow, those are
- 1:26some powerful words. Yeah. So, OK, let's break
- 1:30down the actual physical scope. Like, what are
- 1:32they actually building? OK, so the project basically
- 1:35entails installing and commissioning a 7 .1 kilometer
- 1:39main water transmission line. 7 .1 kilometers.
- 1:43Wow. Yeah. And crucially, it also includes 20
- 1:47new interconnections. And these are for both
- 1:50the transmission and the distribution networks,
- 1:53all to increase the flow and pressure across,
- 1:55you know, various areas of Dubai. Ah, so it's
- 1:58all about reinforcing the system's readiness
- 2:00then. Exactly. And making sure it can meet that
- 2:03growing demand. I mean, this is really proactive
- 2:06infrastructure management. Precisely. The whole
- 2:10point is to ensure there's enough water supply
- 2:12for current and for future needs. Right, for
- 2:16the future. And it's scheduled for completion
- 2:18within just 24 months. For a project of this
- 2:21scale, that is a very swift timeline. That is
- 2:24so fast. It is. And it will directly support
- 2:28Dubai's advanced infrastructure and all of its
- 2:31multi -sector development initiatives. It's just
- 2:34such a clear example of building that foundation
- 2:37for future growth. Totally. Okay, so that leads
- 2:40us to a question for all of you listening. As
- 2:43cities are growing at this, I mean, just an unprecedented
- 2:46pace, what do you think is the single most critical
- 2:50piece of infrastructure that governments must
- 2:52invest in to ensure that long -term sustainability?
