- 0:35Speaker 2: Too much fucking titty milk. Get a cortato, That's what
- 0:39Speaker 2: it is. It's an espressoa just a little bit of milk.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Nice.
- 0:43Speaker 2: So I see people drinking these fuck off lattes and
- 0:46Speaker 2: I laugh at them. You have a good laugh with
- 0:49Speaker 2: the guy who figured it.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Out their one ounce cup.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Yes, I could fill this.
- 0:55Speaker 2: I'm not gonna make that joke. At nine am, eight
- 0:58Speaker 2: my body's time. You know.
- 1:00Speaker 1: He's he's like a coffee nut. He has like a
- 1:03Speaker 1: ten thousand dollars La Marzoko set up at home seven
- 1:06Speaker 1: seven seven five.
- 1:08Speaker 4: It's not let's not get out of.
- 1:09Speaker 1: It's seven five and with the Japanese ceramic mugs. Ceramic mugs.
- 1:14Speaker 2: I'm not a shamed to admit I think it's a
- 1:16Speaker 2: wonderful hobby. I so have a I have an E
- 1:19Speaker 2: C M. Synchronica.
- 1:20Speaker 4: Oh, well done, I'm definitely we talk.
- 1:26Speaker 3: About is this real? Then everyone just turned it off.
- 1:29Speaker 2: I don't listen to Shane. I'm sure Shane. See that's
- 1:34Speaker 2: why Shane. He's brilliant and he appeals. He's a drip
- 1:38Speaker 2: coffee motherfucker. And I'm out here going he goes tamp
- 1:41Speaker 2: it and everyone's like, well, that will never be as big.
- 1:45Speaker 3: Coffee will never be as big.
- 1:47Speaker 4: I saw I saw him at a Madison Square garden
- 1:50Speaker 4: and I thought, I need to invest in coffee. You
- 1:55Speaker 4: mean this is this is unattainable. I need it.
- 1:58Speaker 2: I can't do this. I should lean into my coffe. Yeah.
- 2:00Speaker 4: Clearly this pursuit I'm in is has reached a ceiling.
- 2:04Speaker 3: Are you so bey Noodles? Are you sober?
- 2:07Speaker 4: Oh?
- 2:09Speaker 2: Now you're on my podcast. I guess what you're on
- 2:12Speaker 2: my podcast?
- 2:14Speaker 4: By the way, we've begun, is that? Okay?
- 2:16Speaker 3: Of course?
- 2:16Speaker 4: Okay, great? Great, I'm not sober he is, though.
- 2:20Speaker 2: I'm only asking because sometimes people get real into coffee
- 2:23Speaker 2: when they can't o their liquids in there.
- 2:26Speaker 4: You're looking for divorced, which I am yeah without child.
- 2:32Speaker 2: See I have the lifestyle of a divorced childless man
- 2:35Speaker 2: and I'm married with a child. I'm still out there, Tampa.
- 2:38Speaker 2: I wish do you use the three little the needles.
- 2:40Speaker 4: The weis distribution technique that would have a WDT tool?
- 2:44Speaker 2: I do is yours going on it and spinning or
- 2:47Speaker 2: you know that's cool?
- 2:48Speaker 4: There are some cool ones like that, the Weather Workshops
- 2:50Speaker 4: one my favorite. It's the moon Breaker.
- 2:53Speaker 3: Sponsors being gained from.
- 2:59Speaker 4: I've reached out to every one of these brands and
- 3:01Speaker 4: been like, hey, I'm making coffee, and they're like, we
- 3:04Speaker 4: found that our price points are too high.
- 3:06Speaker 3: Yeah, true, I love. I had them on.
- 3:10Speaker 2: I don't want to say I'm on the hook, but
- 3:11Speaker 2: I had a zoom with them and they were going
- 3:13Speaker 2: to sponsor my pod, and then the pandemic happened. That's
- 3:16Speaker 2: when we should have tripled down. That's when people got
- 3:18Speaker 2: into weird baking bread and needles and nothing.
- 3:21Speaker 3: I will talk.
- 3:22Speaker 2: About it off, Mike. I don't want to bore everything.
- 3:24Speaker 1: This is what this show is.
- 3:25Speaker 2: I no, no, but I can see look at your
- 3:27Speaker 2: body language.
- 3:28Speaker 4: You're like.
- 3:30Speaker 1: You're like you're ashamed of your coffee.
- 3:33Speaker 3: I'm ashamed of my penis.
- 3:35Speaker 2: I'm just like seeing a resigned He's doing it again,
- 3:40Speaker 2: is beautiful.
- 3:41Speaker 1: I'm the documentarian of all his coffee.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Okay, well, let's if you want to talk about I'll
- 3:46Speaker 2: talk about it endlessly.
- 3:47Speaker 3: But I am having some issues.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Does it make it hard to drink like a storeball coffee?
- 3:51Speaker 1: Because I feel like that's why you got into the
- 3:53Speaker 1: game of a homemade because you didn't want to be.
- 3:56Speaker 4: That and and I liked I liked saving money on
- 4:00Speaker 4: not buying a coffee every day, and then you just.
- 4:03Speaker 3: Paid it up front like the lottery, like a lump sum.
- 4:05Speaker 4: Yes, but you know your lifetime supply.
- 4:09Speaker 2: I'm gonna put seven to five in the machine.
- 4:11Speaker 4: In twenty thirty eight, I will have broken.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Even Wait is that really are you? I don't feel
- 4:19Speaker 2: like you're being honest.
- 4:20Speaker 4: No, So like with yourself. Well, I originally seven years
- 4:25Speaker 4: ago I bought a Brevel and it was like a
- 4:28Speaker 4: starter machine whatever. And I would say that over the
- 4:33Speaker 4: course of those seven years, like I must have saved
- 4:38Speaker 4: you know, yeah, thousands and thousands of dollars versus buying
- 4:41Speaker 4: like an eight dollars latte or whatever at a nice
- 4:44Speaker 4: coffee shop.
- 4:44Speaker 2: I take it back. I think you are being on it.
- 4:46Speaker 2: I just thought maybe most people that buy these things
- 4:50Speaker 2: just love the tinkering and the dialing it in, And
- 4:53Speaker 2: then you know what's more fun than like trying shots
- 4:55Speaker 2: and you're getting.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Ripped on espresso?
- 4:57Speaker 2: You know, Yeah, you get higher and higher and higher,
- 4:59Speaker 2: and they can better and better and better and cram
- 5:02Speaker 2: and better and different beans. Like, it's just such a fun,
- 5:05Speaker 2: harmless hobby. It doesn't make you fat, it doesn't make
- 5:09Speaker 2: you stupid. It might make you a little paranoid. I
- 5:11Speaker 2: think there's a sniper on the roommon. I yeah, it's
- 5:17Speaker 2: a pretty benign hobby, it is. But the money saving,
- 5:20Speaker 2: that's why I'm like, I don't know if that's the
- 5:22Speaker 2: most alluring thing, but it is a perk.
- 5:24Speaker 4: I think that that applied more with my cheaper machine.
- 5:27Speaker 4: Now I've invested so much that that that reasoning falls
- 5:31Speaker 4: a bit short.
- 5:31Speaker 2: You drink it, plain, see, I drink cortato, as I
- 5:34Speaker 2: was yelling at you earlier. Nice because I think lattes
- 5:38Speaker 2: have too much milk in them.
- 5:39Speaker 3: But when I make it at home or if I go.
- 5:43Speaker 2: To a nice place, I'll just get espresso because I
- 5:45Speaker 2: like I'm that guy.
- 5:46Speaker 3: Yeah, I like taste you too too.
- 5:48Speaker 5: No, No, I'm not an espresso. I can't really drink
- 5:50Speaker 5: a lot of coffee. I freak out.
- 5:52Speaker 3: Nice.
- 5:52Speaker 4: Yeah, so he drinks energy drinks.
- 5:54Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm drinking a coffee right now, but that's probably
- 5:57Speaker 5: as far now.
- 5:58Speaker 2: You do drink energy drinks?
- 5:59Speaker 4: I do.
- 5:59Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 6:00Speaker 3: I wonder what they do that to make is it alane?
- 6:03Speaker 2: I think so bro? I just took bro. I just
- 6:05Speaker 2: took some Healthanian with my coffee. So oh yeah, that's
- 6:08Speaker 2: that's a nice way.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Why is Alanian into?
- 6:11Speaker 3: That really evens out coffee?
- 6:12Speaker 2: Sorry? Yeah, too excited?
- 6:14Speaker 4: Now you're you're your dad on it.
- 6:16Speaker 2: If you take Althenian with your Hi, I'm Andrew Huberman.
- 6:19Speaker 2: If you take al with your coffee, it evens it out.
- 6:22Speaker 2: It's really nice, just keeps you calm. Well, how old
- 6:26Speaker 2: are you? I'm twenty four and you're still in your
- 6:28Speaker 2: like red Bull?
- 6:29Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 6:30Speaker 2: Yeah, do it exactly.
- 6:33Speaker 3: It's killing your spurs.
- 6:36Speaker 2: My stomach.
- 6:36Speaker 4: Harry morning routine starts at a gas station. Wow, that's
- 6:40Speaker 4: where he goes getting ready.
- 6:43Speaker 2: For the.
- 6:45Speaker 4: Cliff cliff drink.
- 6:47Speaker 2: You're gonna wake up?
- 6:48Speaker 3: Well, that's not true.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Life is long I do not feel like I just
- 6:51Speaker 2: woke up and I was forty six. But at some
- 6:53Speaker 2: point you'll be forty six and you you won't even remember,
- 6:56Speaker 2: like you won't even be able to get in touch
- 6:58Speaker 2: with this guy. Yeah that just was.
- 7:00Speaker 3: Like Pepperoni pizzas. I'll get it in Severnal like, like,
- 7:05Speaker 3: enjoy it.
- 7:05Speaker 2: It's so care free.
- 7:07Speaker 3: How old are you?
- 7:08Speaker 4: Thirty six?
- 7:09Speaker 2: Okay, so I'm older than both of you, but like
- 7:11Speaker 2: still like you're getting there, like you get refined, but
- 7:13Speaker 2: fine just means more preferences like enjoy this, like Bart Simpson,
- 7:18Speaker 2: like like who cares roller skating? Wait, wean a ol
- 7:22Speaker 2: like do a loop like it doesn't matter, middle seed coach,
- 7:26Speaker 2: you don't even notice.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Okay, see that's how.
- 7:31Speaker 4: You got your thumb all over the pulse of this podcast. Brother,
- 7:35Speaker 4: you don't even know the water's been waiting it to.
- 7:37Speaker 7: Pretty much all we talk about is coffee in airlines.
- 7:42Speaker 3: Okay, well those are my two treaties.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I do good coffee and I do good travel.
- 7:47Speaker 3: Because if you're a comic.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, it'll wreck you. Yeah, and you must be
- 7:52Speaker 2: you've been a comedian for like seven eight months. I
- 7:54Speaker 2: mean it must be grinding.
- 7:56Speaker 5: Pieces I've been doing for like five years now.
- 8:01Speaker 4: He's a touring headliner. Though I saw sucker Crowd incredible
- 8:05Speaker 4: social stuff.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Did you like pop Off?
- 8:07Speaker 7: I did like Twitter when I was like really young,
- 8:11Speaker 7: when I was in.
- 8:11Speaker 4: Like middle school school.
- 8:13Speaker 2: Pharaoh over, Sorry, I didn't realize that was Pharaoh crazy.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Sick pull.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Shelby's very funny. Okay, that's cool. So Twitter kind of
- 8:27Speaker 2: picked up.
- 8:28Speaker 5: And then I got hired to here when I was
- 8:31Speaker 5: like nineteen, I think nice.
- 8:33Speaker 7: And then I moved to New York and I started
- 8:34Speaker 7: doing stand up like right when I moved here.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Good.
- 8:36Speaker 1: He dropped out of college because Barstool offered him a job.
- 8:39Speaker 1: He was precocious. He is precocious.
- 8:41Speaker 2: He was a Zuckerberg of Dick fark stuff. I'm like
- 8:45Speaker 2: Mark Zuckerberg, but dick and farks. But I do right way.
- 8:49Speaker 2: That's still like a hip riff.
- 8:50Speaker 5: Yeah, okay, I'll be leaning on you if I'm still Are.
- 8:57Speaker 2: You guys sponsored by MENA?
- 9:01Speaker 4: No?
- 9:01Speaker 5: I wish that would probably fucking pay the bills, ye,
- 9:04Speaker 5: met a sponsorship.
- 9:05Speaker 4: I've been filming my U my morning workflow at my
- 9:09Speaker 4: Lamarzoka Linear, Minnie Micres, excuse me with my zero one
- 9:13Speaker 4: grinder with flatpers and well the high anyway, the point
- 9:18Speaker 4: is I understand that I've been using the meta glasses
- 9:21Speaker 4: for that. Are those I know those those are yours,
- 9:24Speaker 4: by the way, I owe them.
- 9:24Speaker 2: Back to even filming it with your glasses.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Yeah, so he can get his hands in and everything.
- 9:30Speaker 4: Like, yeah, it's like you're playing a video game.
- 9:31Speaker 2: I see. Everything comes back to porn. First meeting, they
- 9:35Speaker 2: were like, and pov.
- 9:37Speaker 4: Porn is Yeah, now you're completely right.
- 9:40Speaker 5: I'm pretty sure that's like there's like something going on
- 9:42Speaker 5: with that right now, with the glasses.
- 9:44Speaker 7: But they're banning them or some show really yeah, I
- 9:47Speaker 7: mean yeah.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Well it's like in Japan there's a real peep in problem.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Then that's why they have the sound on the shutter,
- 9:54Speaker 1: so you can't be sneaky.
- 9:55Speaker 2: You can't with that doesn't make a sound when you
- 9:57Speaker 2: take a picture. Yeah, I'm sure somebody knows the guy
- 10:01Speaker 2: if you're.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Ye and so that these glasses have like a light
- 10:05Speaker 1: that kind of flashes. But I think you can get
- 10:08Speaker 1: off brand or super much. So they don't.
- 10:10Speaker 2: They're going to be bootlegging and filming your fucking jack exactly.
- 10:15Speaker 2: The thing that made you is going to.
- 10:16Speaker 4: Kill you exactly.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Wait, so why are they Why are they banning them
- 10:21Speaker 1: though people are using them for for a.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Porn or for man.
- 10:24Speaker 4: Guys are wearing them on their shoes on the.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Subway, ankles full of glasses.
- 10:30Speaker 4: She's on a skirl. Yeah, there you go.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Yeah, everything successful things huge always have some sexual component.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Like obviously Facebook is, but like why did Facebook go huge?
- 10:45Speaker 2: Because people want to have sex. Instagram becomes about sex
- 10:49Speaker 2: and they become AI become exactly, Like that's why I'll
- 10:53Speaker 2: never be huge because my my special will get no
- 10:56Speaker 2: one late. The guys that are watching my special like
- 11:00Speaker 2: one minute and they're like finishing special.
- 11:03Speaker 3: Girlfriend falls asleep.
- 11:04Speaker 4: I watched years ago. I loved glaze here for a second.
- 11:09Speaker 4: I loved h Yeah.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like sucking off yea.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Yeah, he's gonna suck you off.
- 11:15Speaker 4: It's a little counterintuitive. Anything put on you'll be You'll
- 11:20Speaker 4: be glazing me. That's how it should work.
- 11:23Speaker 3: We're gonna be co glaze.
- 11:24Speaker 4: Yeah, I will elicit glaze, I will summon glaze. No.
- 11:34Speaker 4: But I watched your HBO special, uh and I love
- 11:38Speaker 4: I watched it twice?
- 11:39Speaker 2: Which one?
- 11:41Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know the name, but it had the
- 11:44Speaker 4: blue background, and I'll tell you jokes that I remember. Yeah,
- 11:48Speaker 4: it was. I loved the unicorn unicorn.
- 11:52Speaker 2: Oh silly, No, that's facesn't sounds.
- 11:55Speaker 4: That's right, that's what it was. And then I loved
- 11:58Speaker 4: the street Fighter Fighter pan uh, joke.
- 12:02Speaker 3: Us my Comedy Central special. This is boring. Nobody cares.
- 12:05Speaker 1: Is that the one where like the like a tiger
- 12:08Speaker 1: like slashes your stomach or something so people have their
- 12:11Speaker 1: like body.
- 12:12Speaker 2: That's this is nobody cares about those.
- 12:14Speaker 3: Pete tells you which joke was.
- 12:17Speaker 1: But I just I've not. I've always thought about that.
- 12:20Speaker 1: I think about that every time I like cover my
- 12:23Speaker 1: like my iners like this. You know what, do you
- 12:25Speaker 1: know what joke I'm talking about?
- 12:26Speaker 4: This is the street Fighter stuff?
- 12:28Speaker 1: Is it?
- 12:28Speaker 3: No, it's not.
- 12:29Speaker 2: This is about why Sorry, I love you and we're
- 12:32Speaker 2: going to get to it. I'm very sure that's.
- 12:34Speaker 4: Feel like I have a better sense of your material.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Actually, actually I think that's on. Nice Try the Devil,
- 12:41Speaker 2: which is the Comedy Central special that has a blue background.
- 12:44Speaker 2: And why would you know? Nobody cares what Networking Well
- 12:46Speaker 2: is on anymore? Like you just saw. Especially, I'm glad
- 12:48Speaker 2: you Watchybody, Like.
- 12:49Speaker 4: I feel somewhat sure that the one that I really
- 12:53Speaker 4: loved was on HBO because I came to it through
- 12:56Speaker 4: Crashing You and you you got that special like while
- 13:00Speaker 4: you were doing crashing, right.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Yeah, and that was pure Jed by the way they
- 13:05Speaker 2: passed HBO paths, was like, he has a show, Like
- 13:13Speaker 2: you're gonna have his special be on Netflix while he
- 13:17Speaker 2: has a show. And to their credit, they were like,
- 13:19Speaker 2: you're right. Yeah, Like Jed and Conan, all these guys
- 13:23Speaker 2: that have helped me out are like just so wonderful.
- 13:26Speaker 2: I just like sharing that it was obviously in my benefit,
- 13:29Speaker 2: but like there are people out there in show business
- 13:31Speaker 2: that like care and help and pay forward, and I
- 13:34Speaker 2: like giving them a little shadow.
- 13:36Speaker 4: That's cool.
- 13:37Speaker 1: But just explain the explain that the arms cross thing,
- 13:39Speaker 1: just because I think more people deserve to know about
- 13:42Speaker 1: that because it'll make you rethink how you carry your body.
- 13:45Speaker 2: What's when you pointed out that your body language is open, right,
- 13:48Speaker 2: this is like a confident person or someone confident. Yeah,
- 13:53Speaker 2: but you know, like taking up space, don't do it
- 13:55Speaker 2: on the subway. The man spread but like this is
- 13:57Speaker 2: a confident thing because I'm not worried you're going to
- 13:59Speaker 2: attack me, Like my groin is exposed.
- 14:02Speaker 5: Yea similar to like a cat, similar to a cat, Yes,
- 14:06Speaker 5: my man, but my.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Neck, the neck is so I love that you remember this.
- 14:10Speaker 2: But because this was not just a bit. It was
- 14:13Speaker 2: something that somebody explained to me or I don't know,
- 14:16Speaker 2: saw it on the Discovery Channel. It's real like anthropology stuff.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Like if you cross your arms, what you're doing is
- 14:22Speaker 2: protecting yourself from a kill stroke. If somebody hits you
- 14:25Speaker 2: across your gut, you're dead, like if a lion swipes
- 14:29Speaker 2: you here, you're dead. So it makes sense if you're
- 14:31Speaker 2: nervous you cross your arms. You want to protect yourself.
- 14:34Speaker 2: You already have ribs, ribs are getting this sort but
- 14:37Speaker 2: like this is vulnerable. This is smushy on you.
- 14:40Speaker 4: Okay, time I read.
- 14:44Speaker 3: The other one that's exposed is your neck.
- 14:46Speaker 2: No rib cage here, right, there's there can't be the
- 14:48Speaker 2: way that it's mobile like the new batsuit Dark Knight
- 14:51Speaker 2: on you gotta you got a very soft vulnerable next
- 14:55Speaker 2: to your shoulders go up right, Your shoulders also go.
- 14:58Speaker 3: Up when it rains. I don't know why, but if.
- 15:00Speaker 2: You're scared, this is your position, and it makes perfect
- 15:04Speaker 2: sense because your neck is everything you need to be
- 15:06Speaker 2: alive and nothing's guarding it.
- 15:08Speaker 3: So you put your neck up. And that's why this
- 15:09Speaker 3: what made it a joke.
- 15:10Speaker 2: This is why so many stand ups are up there
- 15:12Speaker 2: like this, Hey, what's going on? Sack garlic it up?
- 15:16Speaker 2: How about your arp? You know what I mean? Like
- 15:18Speaker 2: that because they're freaked out, and I like to remind
- 15:21Speaker 2: myself something. It's not just to like flex, it's to
- 15:25Speaker 2: tell the audience that they can relax, assume the posture
- 15:30Speaker 2: of someone who's comfortable. It's not really like confidence like
- 15:33Speaker 2: goo sull it. It's like just show them like you're
- 15:36Speaker 2: not worried, especially if you're bombing, especially if a joke
- 15:40Speaker 2: doesn't work. That's something Hannibal Buris taught me, he said explicitly.
- 15:45Speaker 2: If he tells a joke that doesn't work, the comics
- 15:47Speaker 2: instinct is to look down, and it is you go like, oh.
- 15:51Speaker 3: What's the employee discount at the dollar store?
- 15:54Speaker 2: You think it's just take it. I tell one of
- 15:55Speaker 2: my good jokes, but then like get bombs and then
- 15:58Speaker 2: you kind of like what else?
- 16:00Speaker 3: You look at your notes. That's also protecting your neck.
- 16:03Speaker 3: You're like you're closing off.
- 16:04Speaker 2: But if you if you, if it doesn't work and
- 16:07Speaker 2: you just continue with the posture of someone who is
- 16:10Speaker 2: doing well, that itself is a joke. It's funny that
- 16:14Speaker 2: you don't care, but why do you? Like?
- 16:16Speaker 3: Shane Gillis is a good example.
- 16:17Speaker 2: Could that dude. He's engaged with the audience, but he's
- 16:20Speaker 2: just kind of like, this is what I like. This,
- 16:23Speaker 2: this is what I like, you know what I mean like?
- 16:24Speaker 2: And that's alluring people are drawn to that.
- 16:27Speaker 1: Another thing that I've noticed that people do because I
- 16:29Speaker 1: think people are aware of this, but sometimes dudes will
- 16:31Speaker 1: get well, they'll do like the inverse of it, and
- 16:34Speaker 1: they'll have like a hand behind their back.
- 16:36Speaker 2: Nate, which I think the Napoleon And do you think
- 16:40Speaker 2: that that Nate is looking at a map of the
- 16:41Speaker 2: world going like poland Venezuela will be Bargaccia. I love Nate.
- 16:49Speaker 2: We started together.
- 16:50Speaker 1: You think that's like an analogous like physical response. Do
- 16:53Speaker 1: you think that it's linked to the same thing where
- 16:55Speaker 1: it's like you don't want to be like this, but
- 16:56Speaker 1: you're like, I'm consciously what do.
- 16:58Speaker 2: You think it is?
- 16:59Speaker 3: I know a little bit.
- 17:00Speaker 2: I love him to death. I think I can hear
- 17:02Speaker 2: him saying like, I just didn't know what to do
- 17:04Speaker 2: with my hands. Yeah, And he doesn't want to think
- 17:06Speaker 2: about it. And he's not Chris Fleming, who's brilliant, who's
- 17:10Speaker 2: using his body. Nate is like, don't worry about my body, please,
- 17:13Speaker 2: don't worry about it. So he poses like George Washington's
- 17:16Speaker 2: his most famous sketches, the George Washington sketch, and he
- 17:19Speaker 2: kind of stands like like he's wearing.
- 17:21Speaker 3: A powdered wig.
- 17:22Speaker 2: But I think that's just a way of being Like,
- 17:25Speaker 2: if he had chosen this, somebody would have been like,
- 17:28Speaker 2: you should stop doing that because this does look you
- 17:31Speaker 2: literally have your.
- 17:31Speaker 3: Hands behind your back. You're like, I'm not worried about you.
- 17:34Speaker 4: I've started putting my left hand in my pocket, and
- 17:37Speaker 4: I don't know if that's a good idea or not.
- 17:39Speaker 2: I love hand in pocket.
- 17:40Speaker 5: I put my hand in my pocket, but then sometimes
- 17:42Speaker 5: I'll go to like I'll take it out, and then
- 17:44Speaker 5: I'll go to put it back in and I'll miss,
- 17:47Speaker 5: and then then I just like have like one finger
- 17:49Speaker 5: in my pocket.
- 17:49Speaker 2: Can I Look, you don't need advice, You're doing great,
- 17:53Speaker 2: But something that really clicked for me with stand up
- 17:55Speaker 2: is whatever is happening is the show, right, So if
- 17:58Speaker 2: you miss I'm not saying you have to riff on everything, yeah,
- 18:02Speaker 2: but like that's funny. Yeah, And if the joke doesn't work,
- 18:06Speaker 2: that's funny its own way. Like if you're sweating and bombing,
- 18:10Speaker 2: that's funny in its own way. And there's this like
- 18:13Speaker 2: reclaiming of like like like one time I accidentally howked
- 18:18Speaker 2: a loogie on my wrist when I was starting here
- 18:21Speaker 2: in New York, and I just ignored it. Now, if
- 18:23Speaker 2: that did, that's all I would talk about. Yeah, how
- 18:25Speaker 2: we're all just bags of fluid and it's so embarrassing
- 18:28Speaker 2: and it's wonder things like this don't happen more often.
- 18:31Speaker 2: But like back then, I was like frozen and just
- 18:33Speaker 2: watched like a slug up my hand. It was disgusting.
- 18:37Speaker 2: But now I'm like, just just just own the moment,
- 18:40Speaker 2: just own what's happening. It seems like you've already figured
- 18:42Speaker 2: this out.
- 18:43Speaker 4: No, no, no, I appreciate that.
- 18:45Speaker 1: I feel like I kind of like I really hijacked
- 18:48Speaker 1: what you were trying to do.
- 18:49Speaker 2: I have no idea you were talking about the street
- 18:52Speaker 2: Fighter to sounds which we don't know or care which
- 18:54Speaker 2: one that is not, even though I appreciated.
- 18:56Speaker 4: I'll give you one more joke from this special, which
- 18:58Speaker 4: was that bit you did about sleep?
- 19:02Speaker 2: Well, that is the HBOS.
- 19:03Speaker 4: There you go, that's I think that is the one.
- 19:06Speaker 4: I've been wrong before, unless I maybe I watched a
- 19:09Speaker 4: couple at that time.
- 19:09Speaker 2: No, no, no, I let's move on because I just look
- 19:12Speaker 2: stupid and nobody cares.
- 19:14Speaker 1: But I I'd like to see you guys argue about
- 19:16Speaker 1: this again.
- 19:18Speaker 3: I am turning this into my podcast. I'm like, let's
- 19:20Speaker 3: move on.
- 19:21Speaker 4: I have a question for you. Yes, sir, would you
- 19:24Speaker 4: research the podcasts you jump on before you jump on them? Like?
- 19:28Speaker 4: Did you know what you were getting yourself into today?
- 19:30Speaker 2: No?
- 19:31Speaker 4: What is this? This is it? Yeah?
- 19:34Speaker 3: This podca but it's called Son of a Boy Dad.
- 19:38Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 19:38Speaker 7: Yeah, that's a little bit more.
- 19:41Speaker 2: There's not a big explanation for that. Unfortunately, this is
- 19:43Speaker 2: this is your Uh well, I'm trying to think I
- 19:46Speaker 2: have things like that. I called my book Comedy Sex God,
- 19:49Speaker 2: and every interview about it started with like why is
- 19:51Speaker 2: it called comedy Sex God?
- 19:53Speaker 3: So I'll spare you that, but.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Now I'm dying to know those are the three topics
- 19:59Speaker 2: it's about stand Did we list them in that order?
- 20:01Speaker 2: It's kind of funny. Yes, people were like, you're on
- 20:05Speaker 2: the Today Show, so you guys sex.
- 20:10Speaker 3: Yes.
- 20:10Speaker 2: I don't research it, but I've done other barstool shows,
- 20:15Speaker 2: and especially with comic what do you do? What do
- 20:18Speaker 2: you fucking what? The loses it?
- 20:24Speaker 1: No, I just really just glean off both of their
- 20:26Speaker 1: success and just kind of just bounce it out in
- 20:29Speaker 1: the middle.
- 20:29Speaker 4: Try this on for SiZ Pete Holmes host this.
- 20:32Speaker 3: Yeah, that's called hosting.
- 20:34Speaker 4: It does a bunch of stuff. Champion, Champion, battle wrapper, no.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Joke, fascinating as good as their fascinating.
- 20:42Speaker 3: I don't know, such a corny thing to say.
- 20:44Speaker 4: Father of Twins, if I may please please, Father of
- 20:47Speaker 4: new Twins, Father of Twins.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Twin swim boy, and that's it.
- 20:52Speaker 4: Makes the most money of the three of us, the most.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Should I leave that? I watch Harry Mack videos and
- 21:01Speaker 2: I get emotional.
- 21:02Speaker 3: I love him.
- 21:03Speaker 1: I mean, that guy is an insanely talented individual.
- 21:06Speaker 2: It's almost weird that he's never I've never even seen
- 21:10Speaker 2: him by time. Really. Every once in a while he'll say, like,
- 21:14Speaker 2: h Mac, you know, right off the dome like some
- 21:17Speaker 2: line where he's.
- 21:18Speaker 1: It's a crutch. Yeah, here's a crutch, but he's mostly crutchless.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Mostly crutch less. Yeah, And the higher stakes the situation,
- 21:25Speaker 2: the better he seems to do.
- 21:26Speaker 4: He's one of.
- 21:26Speaker 2: Those I hope similar to comedians pressures on, you do better,
- 21:31Speaker 2: like that's the inverse most people pressures on they do worse.
- 21:34Speaker 1: I think freestyling the way that he does is pantomount
- 21:37Speaker 1: to speaking a different language where you have to translate
- 21:41Speaker 1: inside your head while simultaneously saying something different. So he's
- 21:45Speaker 1: getting to a rhyme scheme and then at the same
- 21:47Speaker 1: time saying different words out of his mouth, like thinking
- 21:50Speaker 1: and thinking while talking, thinking while talking.
- 21:52Speaker 2: Yeah, that is a huge one time. This is embarrassing,
- 21:56Speaker 2: But I think that's my skill too. Yeah, I'm saying
- 21:58Speaker 2: I can't freestyle. I like to free style in my
- 22:00Speaker 2: car from I'm very relaxed. I think I think the
- 22:03Speaker 2: real skill of freestyle. Look, don't let me tell you
- 22:06Speaker 2: is lowering your heart rate. It's the same with magic.
- 22:08Speaker 2: It's the same with stand up and swimming underwater, and
- 22:11Speaker 2: swimming underwater and also pretending you're dead so you can
- 22:14Speaker 2: reunite with your starcrest lever.
- 22:16Speaker 3: You get that reference Romeo and.
- 22:20Speaker 4: Of course I did.
- 22:21Speaker 2: I did.
- 22:21Speaker 3: Yeah that's high school.
- 22:23Speaker 4: Yeah it's middle school.
- 22:27Speaker 2: But like so many times, the skill isn't the skill,
- 22:30Speaker 2: like freestyling is the skill, but the real skill is
- 22:34Speaker 2: staying calm and centered. Because like like when people are like, oh,
- 22:39Speaker 2: my friend Jeremy is so funny, he should do comedy,
- 22:42Speaker 2: I'm like, being funny writing jokes is part of it,
- 22:46Speaker 2: but it's actually showing up and lowering your heart rate
- 22:49Speaker 2: and being calm when you're really, really under a lot
- 22:52Speaker 2: of pressure. The other thing that I think is super
- 22:55Speaker 2: important for comedy is having a compulsion. So I'll do
- 22:59Speaker 2: a set and that night my brain is just working
- 23:02Speaker 2: on it. Like I never say work on that, but
- 23:04Speaker 2: like you know when you tell your computer to defrag
- 23:07Speaker 2: or like clean up or whatever, just runs for a
- 23:09Speaker 2: while after I do a set, After we all do sets,
- 23:11Speaker 2: that's what our brains are doing. That's actually the secret
- 23:15Speaker 2: sauce of being a stand up because if it was
- 23:17Speaker 2: just down to like what we will ourselves to do
- 23:20Speaker 2: and like sit at the desk and grind on the jokes,
- 23:22Speaker 2: I don't think most of us do that, but our
- 23:24Speaker 2: brains are constantly refining. You didn't even write it down.
- 23:27Speaker 2: That part didn't work. Next time you're doing it, you
- 23:30Speaker 2: just dropped it. That's the skill. And staying calm as
- 23:33Speaker 2: the skill. So free styling. If I'm freestyling in the car,
- 23:36Speaker 2: you ever get on a run by yourself and you're like,
- 23:38Speaker 2: Jesus Christ, this is amazing, Like aybody, you could hear this,
- 23:41Speaker 2: and you're like impressing yourself, Like what because you know
- 23:45Speaker 2: it's like it's obviously it's free associating and it goes
- 23:48Speaker 2: this interesting place and then it ends where it began.
- 23:50Speaker 2: And you're like, if anyone who cares, the skill is
- 23:54Speaker 2: doing it. Going back to the funny friend, Jeremy, I'm
- 23:57Speaker 2: glad you're funny, but the skill is doing it. At
- 23:59Speaker 2: eight o'clock on Sea.

- 24:48Speaker 2: A lot of people are funny. Be funny. Now I'm
- 24:50Speaker 2: not in the mood. I'm scared. There's drunk people. Well
- 24:53Speaker 2: that's what makes it a thing. Yeah, that's why I'm
- 24:56Speaker 2: incredibly impressed.
- 24:57Speaker 1: It's so fun. I mean, it's and will now bottle
- 24:59Speaker 1: out is it's written, so it's not even I mean
- 25:03Speaker 1: there's some freestyling, but for the most part, it's like
- 25:05Speaker 1: you write it like a like you would write a
- 25:07Speaker 1: script for a play, and you memorize it. Yeah, does
- 25:10Speaker 1: that make it less impressive?
- 25:11Speaker 3: Yes? Of course, that absolutely that ruins it.
- 25:15Speaker 2: If I've done it, If I could write a rout
- 25:20Speaker 2: about each of you give me thirty minutes, don't make
- 25:23Speaker 2: me do it, but like i'd come back and what
- 25:25Speaker 2: rhymes with army hammer, redhead, fucking spacammer, you know what
- 25:29Speaker 2: I mean, and do it.
- 25:30Speaker 3: That's it has to be off the dome.
- 25:32Speaker 1: But the quality of the material like skyrocket and once
- 25:36Speaker 1: people could prepare it beforehand as opposed to the extemporaneous
- 25:40Speaker 1: nature of what it was like when it was only
- 25:42Speaker 1: on a beat in freestyle.
- 25:43Speaker 2: Well, I'll talk out the other side of my face
- 25:45Speaker 2: because I just said it ruins it. But I'm also
- 25:47Speaker 2: like I could see how that would elevate it because you.
- 25:50Speaker 3: Are leaving behind a lot of.
- 25:53Speaker 2: Brilliant people who can't necessarily do it on the spot,
- 25:57Speaker 2: but if you gave them five to ten minutes, they
- 26:00Speaker 2: could really nail it and really do something better. So
- 26:04Speaker 2: are we going to hit a ceiling with what is
- 26:06Speaker 2: like true freestylable? Yeah, probably Harry Mack's probably there, and
- 26:11Speaker 2: then like maybe we will be.
- 26:12Speaker 3: Like take ten minutes, take thirty minutes.
- 26:14Speaker 4: But not to I mean the freestyling thing nowadays, Like
- 26:20Speaker 4: I mean, we've talked about the formula. It's you think
- 26:22Speaker 4: to the second line of the couplet and just you
- 26:26Speaker 4: know your punchline beforehand and then you put.
- 26:28Speaker 1: Right, you would have started with redheaded scammer and then
- 26:31Speaker 1: end it on it army hands.
- 26:32Speaker 4: Right right, yeah, because you know you want to do
- 26:35Speaker 4: a joke about army hammer. So if you can think
- 26:37Speaker 4: one line ahead. And by the way, I'm not saying
- 26:39Speaker 4: this is easy, but like yeah, yeah, that's why if
- 26:42Speaker 4: anytime you hear a guy like that, like the first
- 26:46Speaker 4: line of the two is not funny, it's just a
- 26:48Speaker 4: throwaway that set up. Yeah, yeah, it's a setup.
- 26:51Speaker 2: That's the muscle that you guys are working. It's like, okay,
- 26:54Speaker 2: I have it.
- 26:54Speaker 3: And comedians do.
- 26:56Speaker 2: That as well, just way less urgently, you know what
- 27:00Speaker 2: I mean.
- 27:01Speaker 1: Like how so, well, if.
- 27:02Speaker 2: You're doing crowd work and you have something great, you
- 27:05Speaker 2: might think of it right while you're talking to them,
- 27:07Speaker 2: and then you're gonna wait and see how they are,
- 27:10Speaker 2: and if they're a dick, you'd be.
- 27:11Speaker 3: Like, all right, redheaded army hammer or whatever.
- 27:16Speaker 2: You walk to it. Yeah, but you wouldn't start it.
- 27:19Speaker 2: But we're doing it like more in a relational.
- 27:21Speaker 3: Way, I suppose.
- 27:22Speaker 2: I don't know, I think more accurately to your question
- 27:26Speaker 2: is like you know the funny part and you're just
- 27:28Speaker 2: gonna save it to the end, just like an intro,
- 27:31Speaker 2: like I know your name, I'm going to say save
- 27:32Speaker 2: it to the end, and the amateur who introduces you
- 27:35Speaker 2: says your name up to you.
- 27:37Speaker 1: That's smart. Yeah, that's pretty brilliant. It is. I mean,
- 27:41Speaker 1: it's a great discipline, but there's just no money in it.
- 27:43Speaker 1: And it's just like, oh, really a nasty and nasty
- 27:47Speaker 1: just like a scene that eats itself.
- 27:49Speaker 2: Well, you know what I think is you tell me,
- 27:52Speaker 2: and I'm really interested. It feels like impressions, But impressions
- 27:59Speaker 2: are easy, like easier, like if you can do an impression,
- 28:02Speaker 2: Like I just had Tarann kill him on my podcast.
- 28:04Speaker 2: He does this brad pit impression. I didn't get the
- 28:06Speaker 2: sense that he got nervous. If I was like, please
- 28:09Speaker 2: do your bread pit, please do it, he just does it.
- 28:11Speaker 2: But when you and I'm not going to ask you
- 28:12Speaker 2: a freestyle because I think that's a performer. Wouldn't do
- 28:17Speaker 2: that to another performer. But I feel like when you
- 28:18Speaker 2: say I'm a freestyler, all these fucking moms and their
- 28:21Speaker 2: chunky night out jewelry are just like do one, do
- 28:24Speaker 2: one and it sucks, Like is that a burden.
- 28:26Speaker 1: That it is? It's like, would you ask, like a
- 28:29Speaker 1: basketball player to like dunk in front of you like
- 28:31Speaker 1: you play basketball, Like, don't dunk for me?
- 28:33Speaker 2: Well, this is why I get this. Like the comedian,
- 28:35Speaker 2: you know, I'm doing Colbert later today. I like it.
- 28:38Speaker 2: But Chris Rock made this point. A comedian goes on
- 28:41Speaker 2: a late night show, people wanted to be funny Tom Hanks.
- 28:44Speaker 2: I don't know. I picked Tom Hanks. He's very funny.
- 28:46Speaker 2: But I'm just like an actor goes on no one
- 28:48Speaker 2: expects them to be like acting or like it. We
- 28:53Speaker 2: do what we do. I prefer that, but there is
- 28:55Speaker 2: that slight burden. But like I'm also like, when doing
- 29:00Speaker 2: this podcast, so you made fun of my week coffee, right,
- 29:04Speaker 2: I had this out of fucking respect right before the show,
- 29:10Speaker 2: and I took my LFI and Ian right before the show.
- 29:14Speaker 2: I'm priming myself and you know, if I'm being honest,
- 29:17Speaker 2: not to dissect it too much. I'm thinking about, like, okay, Pete,
- 29:21Speaker 2: how do you want to come off? Be gracious, be
- 29:23Speaker 2: interesting just a couple of words, be grateful, be funny,
- 29:26Speaker 2: be alert. I'm trying to be the guests that I
- 29:28Speaker 2: want to be on my own show, like show up right.
- 29:32Speaker 2: I think about that priming just a little bit if
- 29:35Speaker 2: I'm if somebody's going to ask me to freestyle, like
- 29:39Speaker 2: I love eminem When they're doing those freestyling videos, they're
- 29:42Speaker 2: doing their own version of all of that. They're taking
- 29:44Speaker 2: their adderall or whatever it is. They're taking their caffeine.
- 29:48Speaker 2: They might go for a walk around the building, get
- 29:50Speaker 2: their heart rate up. They might be jumping up and down,
- 29:52Speaker 2: like just going with free thyle. It's like a fundamental
- 29:55Speaker 2: misunderstanding in what being a performer is. Being a performer
- 29:58Speaker 2: is conjuring up a state demand yes, and it's not.
- 30:03Speaker 2: Just like I tried to do this joke where I
- 30:07Speaker 2: was like, I think it's so funny. We see people
- 30:08Speaker 2: when they're good, but everybody that was is good was bad.
- 30:12Speaker 2: We erased this. But the first time Marshall Mathers freestyled,
- 30:18Speaker 2: he wasn't good.
- 30:19Speaker 4: It sucked.
- 30:20Speaker 2: It sucked, threw up in the bathroom, vomit on his sweater.
- 30:24Speaker 2: Already it was mom's spaghetti. He was nervous, but on
- 30:28Speaker 2: the surface he looked calmon red. But he went out
- 30:33Speaker 2: and I'm not trying to take anything away from him,
- 30:36Speaker 2: you know, Like I know, Donald Glover a little bit
- 30:38Speaker 2: one of the coolest people in the world. And when
- 30:40Speaker 2: I listened to Childish Gambino and he's like, yut, you know,
- 30:43Speaker 2: like it sound like that yu that yut, which is cool.
- 30:47Speaker 2: It's a little sexy, it's a little fun. Right.
- 30:49Speaker 3: There were five other things that they tried.
- 30:51Speaker 2: They were like it like nah, because that's what it
- 30:55Speaker 2: fucking is, which is why every biopiic sucks. When it's
- 30:58Speaker 2: Elton John being like Rocket Rocket Boy, it fucking sucks.
- 31:04Speaker 2: When Queen is sitting around in some of those, it's
- 31:09Speaker 2: fucking stupid. No one wants to see it. That's why
- 31:12Speaker 2: we mythologize. And eight Mile. You reference eight Mile, Right,
- 31:16Speaker 2: He's never bad in eight Mile, But every comic, even
- 31:19Speaker 2: Dave Chappelle, who they're like, he went up and he
- 31:21Speaker 2: was amazing. I bet he was charismatic and magnanimous and
- 31:24Speaker 2: interesting and better than ninety nine, But he wasn't as
- 31:27Speaker 2: good as he is now when he was whatever he
- 31:30Speaker 2: was fifteen. Yeah, he might be the exception, but everybody
- 31:34Speaker 2: else fucking sucks.
- 31:35Speaker 1: Sucks for a while.
- 31:36Speaker 2: It's just that's where we tried to show and crashing.
- 31:39Speaker 2: We were like, it's jokes about road signs and you
- 31:42Speaker 2: have Look, I'm sure you're different, But when I was
- 31:44Speaker 2: twenty four, I was like, orange tic TACs. Why do
- 31:48Speaker 2: I want to my breath to smell like I just
- 31:50Speaker 2: had a tangerine? Isn't that just another phone?
- 31:55Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 31:55Speaker 1: That's good, that's good, that's good.
- 31:58Speaker 2: I'm all worried about.
- 32:00Speaker 3: But this is why biopics.
- 32:02Speaker 2: You're fucking stupid, because making stuff is stupid, and we actually,
- 32:07Speaker 2: if we're honest, we don't want to see it. We
- 32:08Speaker 2: want to thought like Amadeus. You don't know what the
- 32:10Speaker 2: fuck that is. But Mozart, there's a movie about them.
- 32:12Speaker 2: It's called Amadis. I'm just seizing it. But like he
- 32:15Speaker 2: was like, oh, I just can't stop writing these symphonies.
- 32:18Speaker 2: It's not how it was, It's not true that is
- 32:21Speaker 2: there's many many unfinished symphonies. Mozart's work is covered in
- 32:26Speaker 2: redo's and scratch ups. We tell the story, we want it.
- 32:29Speaker 2: We want to think everybody's a genius. I just can't
- 32:32Speaker 2: help it. Fuck off fucking offensive to true creatives because
- 32:37Speaker 2: we know it's.
- 32:38Speaker 3: Embarrassing it's stupid, it's humiliating.
- 32:41Speaker 1: And that's kind of the fun part in retrospect. I
- 32:43Speaker 1: think that's like look back to like the times when
- 32:45Speaker 1: you sucked ass and you're with a bunch of other
- 32:47Speaker 1: people that sucked ass.
- 32:49Speaker 3: Couldn't agree more.
- 32:50Speaker 2: That's why it was like, enjoy your Red Bull seven
- 32:52Speaker 2: to eleven pizza time, and you'll never be more with other
- 32:56Speaker 2: people than at the beginning. Then you like, you know,
- 33:01Speaker 2: Lord Willing, I don't know what phrase to you is here,
- 33:03Speaker 2: but like let's say some of you become professionals and
- 33:05Speaker 2: start touring. Then you're you know, you're in a nice
- 33:09Speaker 2: hotel by yourself. Yeah, fuck dumb. Yeah, it sucks, it
- 33:14Speaker 2: can it can suck. I bring my opener, Mam McCarthy's
- 33:16Speaker 2: one of my best friends. That's a huge that's a
- 33:19Speaker 2: huge help. Yeah.
- 33:20Speaker 5: Yeah, I bring my buddy Moke Mooke. Yeah, how old's
- 33:23Speaker 5: Moke Mooke is twenty eight?
- 33:25Speaker 2: Okay, this works?
- 33:26Speaker 3: Yeah, you don't want to bring like a fifty two
- 33:28Speaker 3: year old guy.
- 33:28Speaker 2: Nah success, Oh yeah, yeah, we're different hotels, all right.
- 33:34Speaker 4: Rough that episode of Crashing where you went out and
- 33:39Speaker 4: played I think it was Bananas in New Jersey with uh, Dove,
- 33:44Speaker 4: Davidoff and Jamielee, right, yes, yes, and you stayed at
- 33:47Speaker 4: the comedy condo. Yeah, oh yeah, yes, yeah.
- 33:51Speaker 2: I remember very vividly because when you when you do
- 33:55Speaker 2: a show, they'll scout locations and they show you pictures,
- 33:57Speaker 2: maybe video. And I had such a a firm idea
- 34:01Speaker 2: of what the condo should look like because there's this
- 34:03Speaker 2: amalgamation of every condo I had stayed and then none
- 34:06Speaker 2: of them were gross enough.
- 34:07Speaker 4: Yeah, the Zanies Nashville, the Denver Comedy Works. I'm doing
- 34:14Speaker 4: there this weekend, and they put me in the comedy
- 34:16Speaker 4: in the condo and we stayed there. I did. I
- 34:19Speaker 4: didn't say that's right. You stayed with your with Bo Peters.
- 34:23Speaker 5: You went, You stayed with Moke Mook and I stayed,
- 34:25Speaker 5: which is really great. Yes, too, well, we he and I.
- 34:30Speaker 4: The last time we did Denver, we co headlined it
- 34:33Speaker 4: fun and Uh, I stayed in the condo with the
- 34:37Speaker 4: open with our feature at the time, it's his feature.
- 34:40Speaker 4: But he asked me if he could borrow some toothpaste
- 34:46Speaker 4: from me.
- 34:46Speaker 2: Moke, Yeah, Franceton like that.
- 34:50Speaker 4: What do you think about that? You know?
- 34:53Speaker 2: Usually I take the position of like, what's the big deal. Yeah,
- 34:59Speaker 2: but in this case, your toothbrush is a very personal thing.
- 35:05Speaker 2: And like jokes that involve like violating someone's toothbrush, I'm like,
- 35:10Speaker 2: I don't find that funny. I don't like it because
- 35:14Speaker 2: it's going in your mouth and we rinse it off.
- 35:16Speaker 2: But its mouth and toothpaste. If you're like me, it's
- 35:20Speaker 2: going right on that brush. So the rim it's kind
- 35:23Speaker 2: of like the toothbrush tosses the salad.
- 35:26Speaker 4: Of I knew he wasn't going to take sterilized scissors
- 35:32Speaker 4: and cut the toothpaste.
- 35:36Speaker 3: That's where he needs to be rubbed off.
- 35:37Speaker 4: I knew he was. There'd be contact, and if you
- 35:40Speaker 4: saw this guy, you'd be like absolutely.
- 35:44Speaker 2: You know, if somebody's asking, hey, can you spare some
- 35:47Speaker 2: some fucking aquafrush, I know we might not.
- 35:51Speaker 1: There's not a way to put it on the bristles
- 35:53Speaker 1: with just as with a.
- 35:55Speaker 3: You could twist it like honey.
- 35:56Speaker 2: You know those wooden things you up and Honey Honey's commercial.
- 36:02Speaker 3: You put one of those in the toothpastes and you
- 36:04Speaker 3: can drizzle it.
- 36:05Speaker 4: But you have to think, is this mooke?
- 36:08Speaker 2: I wasn't picturing a white guy. I'm gonna be real
- 36:12Speaker 2: when you said Muke, I don't know why. I was like,
- 36:14Speaker 2: this is a Kenyon, but here he is.
- 36:16Speaker 7: Francis, what did you say when you asked, you looks.
- 36:19Speaker 3: Like someone that copied you too many times?
- 36:22Speaker 4: I said, this isn't a bachelor party, is what I said. Yeah,
- 36:26Speaker 4: he goes there was something else about it though. That
- 36:29Speaker 4: was weird and I'm forgetting.
- 36:30Speaker 5: It was just funny that you guys had to interact
- 36:32Speaker 5: all weekend, like you guys went out to you guys
- 36:34Speaker 5: went to a diner.
- 36:35Speaker 4: I took him to a diner. All this because Harry
- 36:37Speaker 4: Harry's friends lived in Denver at the time. Yeah, right,
- 36:41Speaker 4: and Harry decided to crash on the couch. But that
- 36:44Speaker 4: condo is very weird and zany, and there's all kinds
- 36:46Speaker 4: of funky stuff going on.
- 36:47Speaker 1: What about like a piece of like tissue paper and
- 36:51Speaker 1: you just grab a little bit of the toothpaste.
- 36:53Speaker 4: If Connor Mook had considered any one of these types
- 36:56Speaker 4: of uh sort of sterilizing technique, this.
- 37:00Speaker 2: Guy's already brushing before he even realized there was an issue.
- 37:03Speaker 2: Like if you had said yes, yeah, it would have happened,
- 37:05Speaker 2: and then later he would have been like, did you
- 37:07Speaker 2: just I.
- 37:08Speaker 4: Also saw what types of wrappers and things were on
- 37:12Speaker 4: his bedside table and floor, so I knew what his
- 37:16Speaker 4: mouth was full of and what he was cleaning.
- 37:20Speaker 2: He also has a mustache, which is the toothbrush of
- 37:22Speaker 2: the face.
- 37:23Speaker 4: This is not a guy, Yeah, this is not a
- 37:25Speaker 4: guy who has to make sure that like broccoli bits
- 37:27Speaker 4: are out of his molers. It was a different time.
- 37:31Speaker 4: It was like burger king at three in the morning.
- 37:33Speaker 1: He's till the second he's asleep.
- 37:35Speaker 2: This was Uke at his lowest, not this picture specifically.
- 37:39Speaker 4: But when it is lowest when we were in Denver.
- 37:41Speaker 2: What was going on with Muke?
- 37:43Speaker 5: He was just in a lot of burger king back
- 37:45Speaker 5: Like I there was a seven eleven right next to
- 37:48Speaker 5: the club, and like I have you know, melatonin and
- 37:51Speaker 5: gummis before bed and he has a slim gym. Yeah.
- 37:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't want to humorim in you, but melatonin
- 37:56Speaker 2: is a hormone that your body makes. You shouldn't be
- 37:58Speaker 2: supplementing it.
- 37:59Speaker 1: We think he's going to us as pineal glands bro
- 38:02Speaker 1: calcify that.
- 38:03Speaker 2: Yeah, you might want to. If you're interested in your melatonin,
- 38:09Speaker 2: you should take calcium, which helps your brain make melatonin.
- 38:11Speaker 4: Hmmm, that sounds cool, weird. I'm open to anything. I'm
- 38:14Speaker 4: a terrible sleeper. Oh really yeah, guys.

- 41:02Speaker 1: Is human fucked me up with or maybe it was
- 41:06Speaker 1: the book The Body by whoever the fuck was by,
- 41:09Speaker 1: But they said that the pineal gland is so powerful
- 41:13Speaker 1: that blind people can tell when the lights are on
- 41:16Speaker 1: and off. Oh wow, how fucking nuts is that?
- 41:19Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 41:20Speaker 5: I could see that if I close my eyes, but
- 41:24Speaker 5: I guess that's not the same as being blind.
- 41:25Speaker 4: Come to find that they've lost their sight. So there
- 41:28Speaker 4: you're hearing is just so attuned they can hear the
- 41:30Speaker 4: sort of.
- 41:33Speaker 2: Whole time. Well that's good science. What are the factors?
- 41:37Speaker 2: Can you feel the light? I mean these ones definitely.
- 41:41Speaker 2: You can feel hot a comedy, you take a stand hot. Sorry.
- 41:49Speaker 2: I don't know why, but being with the younger comic
- 41:51Speaker 2: is reminding me of all the things that I had
- 41:53Speaker 2: to figure out.
- 41:54Speaker 3: It's like, don't be like the cats.
- 41:56Speaker 7: Don't get me wrong, doctor being wishy washy.
- 41:59Speaker 2: I I love cats, like we all. That's the job.
- 42:03Speaker 3: That's the job.
- 42:04Speaker 2: Like you know what I mean? Like Bill Burg goes
- 42:06Speaker 2: on and rants on something. Could Bill talk about the
- 42:08Speaker 2: other side of it? Yes? Would that be fun? No,
- 42:11Speaker 2: it's fun for him to be like, hey, hey, fucking
- 42:13Speaker 2: shopping carts, you know whatever.
- 42:15Speaker 1: It is clear perspect.
- 42:16Speaker 3: Because I got Mooke on. Yeah, I know, right, like
- 42:19Speaker 3: the guy following Bill to murder him.
- 42:24Speaker 2: Get on the phone's gonna love this, Okay, I thought
- 42:30Speaker 2: you were Kenyon.
- 42:31Speaker 3: A new Kenyon named Mook.
- 42:33Speaker 2: Move that's real. Yeah, at the second move that's more
- 42:38Speaker 2: of a African flavor.
- 42:39Speaker 1: I don't know why there's a battle rapper named murder Mooke.
- 42:42Speaker 1: I think and do the.
- 42:43Speaker 2: Right thing, of course, that's what I'm saying.
- 42:45Speaker 1: Mouke is the right characters.
- 42:48Speaker 2: His name, that's a Jeremy who goes by.
- 42:50Speaker 5: His name is Connor. His last name is not Mouke,
- 42:53Speaker 5: but he goes by Connor.
- 42:54Speaker 4: M I don't know why his last name's not Mook.
- 42:57Speaker 2: Now, well he could have been.
- 42:59Speaker 1: His last name couldn't be Mook.
- 43:01Speaker 5: His red hair, why did I there's some I don't
- 43:06Speaker 5: know why I did not know that.
- 43:08Speaker 1: Yeah, because I think that he had like another he
- 43:10Speaker 1: had like an accounting job when he first started working here,
- 43:13Speaker 1: so he needed he needed some type of pseudonym.
- 43:18Speaker 5: Wow, okay, is this your studio?
- 43:21Speaker 2: Ya? These come down?
- 43:23Speaker 5: No, So this is all of us and then this
- 43:27Speaker 5: on the other side is Roan's other show.
- 43:30Speaker 4: I've done that one, Hooping and Hollering. I don't know
- 43:33Speaker 4: that's gonna say. ID was like that came out like
- 43:35Speaker 4: six months ago.
- 43:36Speaker 2: I don't think I did Hooping and Horran, but whatever
- 43:38Speaker 2: I did have the same.
- 43:39Speaker 3: You guys are reusing this sort of like sauna wood.
- 43:41Speaker 7: Oh yeah you probably did.
- 43:42Speaker 2: Can't see radio.
- 43:44Speaker 1: No, they just put the sauna wood in. How much
- 43:47Speaker 1: do you think that this set costs? I got a
- 43:48Speaker 1: text from my boss being like, this set cost x amount,
- 43:52Speaker 1: better be worth it?
- 43:53Speaker 2: Yeah, how much we'll get with including the furniture?
- 43:56Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 43:56Speaker 2: Everything. It's like prices right, this set cost thirty two
- 44:04Speaker 2: thousand dollars.
- 44:05Speaker 1: It cost fifty five thousand dollars.
- 44:07Speaker 3: I know a guy that.
- 44:08Speaker 2: Could, Oh yeah, we could a camera that doesn't make
- 44:10Speaker 2: a shutter sound and could have.
- 44:11Speaker 1: Gotten seventy thousand dollars off.
- 44:14Speaker 4: Do you think that includes those lights?
- 44:16Speaker 2: Though?
- 44:16Speaker 1: No, no, so they added nothing. It's just a fabrication
- 44:20Speaker 1: of this. I took a picture. I was like, where's this.
- 44:21Speaker 1: Where's the fifty five thousand dollars? They said it costs
- 44:24Speaker 1: ten thousand dollars to take down the old set. The
- 44:27Speaker 1: bookshelf I had that could.
- 44:29Speaker 3: Have done that for four dollars.
- 44:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm just getting my ball, bros.
- 44:35Speaker 2: Weird man. It used to like, because I've been doing
- 44:38Speaker 2: mine for I don't even know, it's over a decade.
- 44:41Speaker 2: It used to be like Ham Radio. You know, it's
- 44:44Speaker 2: like Mark Maron in his basement being like, my cat
- 44:47Speaker 2: fucking shit right now. I don't know why said that,
- 44:51Speaker 2: and I don't know why I said it, like Jack Nicholson,
- 44:55Speaker 2: but it was very low five yeah, and like Maren's point,
- 44:59Speaker 2: like when he started WTF which obviously inspired my show,
- 45:03Speaker 2: that his managers like laughed at him. They were like
- 45:06Speaker 2: why are you wasting your time? And I remember that.
- 45:08Speaker 2: I'm old enough to remember, like podcasts were like it
- 45:11Speaker 2: was like a joke. It's like the Microsoft zoon. It's like, oh,
- 45:15Speaker 2: you do a podcast? Can I get that on my zone?
- 45:18Speaker 2: Like it was like that. And now you're here. We're
- 45:21Speaker 2: sitting in a double.
- 45:22Speaker 1: Studio like with eight overhead directional lights.
- 45:26Speaker 2: Exactly in like a tech office, like I've been in
- 45:28Speaker 2: the Facebook office.
- 45:30Speaker 3: Like this isn't that far off.
- 45:31Speaker 1: It's insane.
- 45:32Speaker 3: There's not a Cereal bar.
- 45:34Speaker 6: No, if you were here a couple of years ago,
- 45:37Speaker 6: really cereal everywhere, Like we're just cereal.
- 45:47Speaker 3: That's not expensive.
- 45:48Speaker 4: All little manials in Chicago now.
- 45:51Speaker 2: But yeah, this is what happens when money finds something
- 45:55Speaker 2: is people start charging fifty thousand dollars to put up
- 45:59Speaker 2: something that if we were doing this and I'm not
- 46:02Speaker 2: making fun of your whoever did this, but like when
- 46:05Speaker 2: you were starting, you would have found a way to
- 46:07Speaker 2: do this exact set for eight dollars.
- 46:11Speaker 4: Yeah. And if by money finding something you mean Ice
- 46:13Speaker 4: finding all of the unskilled laborers in New York City. Yes,
- 46:17Speaker 4: that is why we had a team of like Etsy
- 46:20Speaker 4: handlers come in and Assemblis instead of a family from Venezuela.
- 46:23Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
- 46:24Speaker 3: This has Etsy vibes.
- 46:26Speaker 1: Which like or it just it rankled me a little
- 46:29Speaker 1: bit ruffled my feathers that my boss is on my
- 46:32Speaker 1: ass about this, about the set, as if I demanded
- 46:36Speaker 1: fucking Noah's arkwood you s yeah, for the basketball. It's like, dude,
- 46:44Speaker 1: also an asked for it would have taken a wood composite.
- 46:47Speaker 4: You like ball, you sports guy?
- 46:49Speaker 7: No, no, not almost a six six sixty six.
- 46:52Speaker 3: Barely touched the room.
- 46:53Speaker 1: Really, but you can't touch the room.
- 46:55Speaker 2: But I can't. Yeah, I mean that's all that matters.
- 46:56Speaker 2: I mean I can without really jumping, just get my
- 47:01Speaker 2: arm on there. It's a it's a shame that I
- 47:03Speaker 2: can't dunk. I always am the same height as Michael
- 47:05Speaker 2: Jordan or they lie in the stats a lot though.
- 47:08Speaker 1: Yeah, he's six six.
- 47:09Speaker 6: I think he's a legitimate six six before wanted he's
- 47:13Speaker 6: six one.
- 47:13Speaker 2: Yeah, is that real?
- 47:14Speaker 4: All lies?
- 47:15Speaker 2: No, No, he's probably six or five.
- 47:18Speaker 3: They leave books the last.
- 47:19Speaker 2: Dance just to have that cut them with his dead
- 47:22Speaker 2: eyes like smoking drunk. We need to take a break,
- 47:27Speaker 2: cries because yeah, walks off that house doesn't look fun.
- 47:31Speaker 2: Where he lives. He lives in like Superman's Fortress of Solitude.
- 47:34Speaker 1: Yeah, they've been trying to sell it to for like
- 47:36Speaker 1: a while, his Chicago mansion with like the twenty three
- 47:39Speaker 1: on the gates, and that was like, what's it shocking? Right?
- 47:44Speaker 2: I think Hammer would have swooped in taken I remember,
- 47:47Speaker 2: well there.
- 47:48Speaker 3: Was a Hammer palace that they could remember.
- 47:50Speaker 4: Of course, yeah, I would buy it.
- 47:52Speaker 5: I mean the twenty three on the front. You got
- 47:53Speaker 5: to be a big mj fan if that's going to
- 47:55Speaker 5: be Charry off off Brand, Jim Carrey fan.
- 47:59Speaker 2: He had that movie.
- 48:00Speaker 4: I just played Michael Jordan's golf course in Florida. It's
- 48:03Speaker 4: called Grove twenty three. Oh yeah, and you come in
- 48:06Speaker 4: and I can give this to our beloved editors. But
- 48:10Speaker 4: I'll show you guys, so that and then this will
- 48:12Speaker 4: be on the screen. But you drive in and you
- 48:14Speaker 4: see the gate and the like insignia of the twenty three.
- 48:18Speaker 4: I mean, it's all done in Roman numerals. It's pretty cool.
- 48:21Speaker 4: Just bear with me for one second. Here we go.
- 48:26Speaker 4: Oh yeah, here it comes, guys. You'll see in just
- 48:35Speaker 4: a second. I don't know why I'm showing you this.
- 48:37Speaker 4: It's not really.
- 48:38Speaker 3: Oh no, no, we'll.
- 48:39Speaker 1: Start from the beginning.
- 48:40Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, no.
- 48:41Speaker 4: Here, Look you'll see. I mean it's everywhere the twenty sideways.
- 48:48Speaker 4: Next time you see that. You couldn't see it, No,
- 48:52Speaker 4: I can't see anything. Yeah, it says x x x
- 48:58Speaker 4: x and then three ones ro numerals and that that
- 49:01Speaker 4: is everywhere, that twenty three.
- 49:03Speaker 2: That's pretty cool.
- 49:04Speaker 4: It is just like the whole prevailing.
- 49:07Speaker 5: You go to the pro shop. Yeah, I did any
- 49:10Speaker 5: good gear. There was some cool gear.
- 49:13Speaker 4: They make some cool like stuff that you can only
- 49:16Speaker 4: get there, which is cool. I had a friend who
- 49:18Speaker 4: asked me to pick him up some stuff. The other
- 49:21Speaker 4: cool thing about it is that because Michael Jordan loves cigars,
- 49:25Speaker 4: you can smoke cigars in the main restaurant like indoors.
- 49:29Speaker 4: And then they have a I think they have some
- 49:31Speaker 4: kind of it. It felt like they had a filtration
- 49:33Speaker 4: system that makes it still tolerable to those who don't
- 49:36Speaker 4: want to just be inhaling. Yeah. Probably. And then they
- 49:38Speaker 4: had all the doors open and then the air conditioning
- 49:41Speaker 4: on it. That's what you know. That's so rich you
- 49:43Speaker 4: have money to really burn. Yeah, all the doors open
- 49:46Speaker 4: on a humid floor today with the air conditioning.
- 49:49Speaker 2: Just yeah, just going outside.
- 49:51Speaker 4: Fighting a losing battle, dissipating endlessly into the humidity. Yeah, yeah,
- 50:00Speaker 4: but it was cool. Yeah. And he's always there.
- 50:02Speaker 2: Did you was he there?
- 50:03Speaker 4: I didn't see him.
- 50:04Speaker 2: Do you think he was there? Could you feel it?
- 50:07Speaker 4: No, he's pretty he's pretty note I'm sorry, broone. He's
- 50:11Speaker 4: pretty noticeable. Like he takes a group of six and
- 50:14Speaker 4: everyone gets their own cart. And he's famous for like
- 50:18Speaker 4: he'll he'll gamble with any member, and he's very like
- 50:21Speaker 4: approachable about it. So if this kid I was playing
- 50:23Speaker 4: with it was like twenty three, he was like, Yeah,
- 50:25Speaker 4: if I went up to MJ right now in the
- 50:28Speaker 4: restaurant and I was like closest to the pin off
- 50:31Speaker 4: of eighteen near the green for five hundred bucks, he
- 50:35Speaker 4: would immediately be like, yeah, let's go. Yeah. And and
- 50:38Speaker 4: his whole rule is like he'll gamble for anything as
- 50:41Speaker 4: long as it makes you uncomfortable. Yeah, So he doesn't
- 50:44Speaker 4: care if we're betting five hundred thousand or fifty bucks,
- 50:49Speaker 4: so long as it is an amount of money that
- 50:51Speaker 4: if you lost it. Did I already say this yes?
- 50:53Speaker 2: Not to me?
- 50:54Speaker 1: Yeah? Brand new for this was three mind.
- 50:57Speaker 4: This was pre MJ. Did I tell all though the
- 51:00Speaker 4: stories that I just told, there was some new information? Sorry,
- 51:05Speaker 4: thank god.
- 51:05Speaker 2: At a certain point, I think past the ten year mark,
- 51:08Speaker 2: I was just like, I'll just assume I've said everything.
- 51:11Speaker 2: But if I'm saying it again, I've heard it before.
- 51:15Speaker 2: I'm Were you interested in what you were saying?
- 51:17Speaker 4: Did you?
- 51:18Speaker 2: Was there still some juice in it?
- 51:19Speaker 4: I was interested?
- 51:20Speaker 2: Yeah, but I'm excited numerals. I mean, like, yeah, the
- 51:24Speaker 2: ac you loved it gambling.
- 51:26Speaker 4: If I didn't offer any new information, I would be concerned.
- 51:30Speaker 5: No, there was new information for the audience or for
- 51:33Speaker 5: your own my friends, for my mind.
- 51:37Speaker 1: But like so with your buddies, Like, isn't it fun
- 51:39Speaker 1: to tell the same old stories like that?
- 51:41Speaker 4: Ah, that's all it is.
- 51:42Speaker 1: Yeah, refriend that's what a friend is.
- 51:45Speaker 2: A friend is someone who will tolerate the insanity of
- 51:48Speaker 2: your repetitive one, Yeah, and not judge it, because I mean,
- 51:51Speaker 2: that's what we're all burdened with. Yeah, Like I like,
- 51:55Speaker 2: you ever watch a movie you've seen before and you
- 51:58Speaker 2: realize you're having the same thoughts as you had it
- 52:01Speaker 2: the first si because you see certain things and it
- 52:02Speaker 2: makes you think about certain things and you're like, this
- 52:05Speaker 2: is a repeat, Like I've seen this before, and I've
- 52:08Speaker 2: seen this before. That's what we are. We're just like,
- 52:10Speaker 2: it's not a bad thing, it's just like you need.
- 52:12Speaker 2: It's nice to recognize that your thoughts aren't really that personal.
- 52:16Speaker 4: I rewatched Inception this weekend. I've probably seen it ten
- 52:20Speaker 4: times and I hadn't seen it in years, And what
- 52:23Speaker 4: I realized this time is that I still do not
- 52:26Speaker 4: understand movie. Like, after all, I thought I had it figured. Yeah,
- 52:31Speaker 4: like the last time I saw it, and this time
- 52:33Speaker 4: I was like, oh no, there's a lot of pieces
- 52:36Speaker 4: of this from the the kick, like the falling, the
- 52:41Speaker 4: gravity stuff, all of that was just the time distortion
- 52:45Speaker 4: why someone can die and then you go deeper into
- 52:47Speaker 4: a level and you can rescue them from there. It
- 52:50Speaker 4: was abuff my head.
- 52:52Speaker 2: Yeah, that movie's pretty confusing.
- 52:54Speaker 1: Tenant was just like the more obtuse version of that movie.
- 52:57Speaker 4: I've never seen that one.
- 52:58Speaker 2: Tenant is upsettingly bad to me.
- 53:02Speaker 1: Yeah, no, it's too confused.
- 53:04Speaker 2: Like, and I love Nolan and I think i've watched
- 53:07Speaker 2: you know what's weird about me, I guess is like
- 53:10Speaker 2: I don't like Tennant, but I will watch YouTube's talking
- 53:14Speaker 2: about Tennant or Christopher Nolan talking about Tennant. I like that,
- 53:18Speaker 2: but I don't just want to be a mouse in
- 53:20Speaker 2: the maze trying to figure and that that might be
- 53:22Speaker 2: my age.
- 53:22Speaker 1: When you want to be on top of the maze
- 53:24Speaker 1: and just being like to see someone go through and
- 53:25Speaker 1: be like, oh that's interesting.
- 53:27Speaker 2: Yeah, that's an interesting thing. It's so much better than
- 53:29Speaker 2: you think it is. Like I watch movie YouTube's about
- 53:32Speaker 2: how the prestige isn't about what you think it's about.
- 53:35Speaker 2: I'm like, I don't know why, but I love like
- 53:37Speaker 2: deep analysis, but I don't want to be burdened with
- 53:41Speaker 2: having to do the deep analysis. Yeah, and I also
- 53:43Speaker 2: just I didn't really you want to.
- 53:45Speaker 1: I mean, to make art that people people aren't supposed
- 53:49Speaker 1: to get is not good art. I don't think, like.
- 53:52Speaker 2: Did you see Like Weapons.
- 53:54Speaker 3: I didn't see Weapons.
- 53:55Speaker 4: Like Weapons.
- 53:56Speaker 5: Was like, uh, it's like it's like a twenty four
- 53:59Speaker 5: horror movie.
- 54:00Speaker 2: Yeah, that Gregor wrote it. He's a buddy of mine,
- 54:02Speaker 2: but I haven't seen it.
- 54:02Speaker 4: Yeah, great movie.
- 54:03Speaker 3: I love to go running.
- 54:04Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I watched I saw it in theaters.
- 54:06Speaker 2: I loved it.
- 54:07Speaker 5: Yeah, And like I had an idea of what it
- 54:09Speaker 5: was about in my head, and then I went home
- 54:12Speaker 5: and I googled it and it was like not even close.
- 54:15Speaker 2: Oh interesting, Yeah, I guess that's part of it. And
- 54:18Speaker 2: we are such a rewatch culture. Like the first time
- 54:20Speaker 2: I saw the Matrix, I realized like I was probably
- 54:22Speaker 2: your age, and I was like, I loved it and
- 54:25Speaker 2: had no idea what it was about.
- 54:26Speaker 3: Yeah, and then I watched it again.
- 54:27Speaker 2: I was like, oh, and like you realize like they
- 54:30Speaker 2: were explaining.
- 54:31Speaker 4: It the whole time.
- 54:32Speaker 2: We were just like, look at KIANU care.
- 54:36Speaker 3: So sometimes it takes a wild owners.
- 54:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 54:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 54:39Speaker 1: A couple of years ago, my relatives came into New
- 54:43Speaker 1: York and I really wanted to take them to see
- 54:45Speaker 1: some comedy and we went to the Cellar and we
- 54:47Speaker 1: waited in line at the Cellar and we didn't get tickets,
- 54:50Speaker 1: and so instead of going to a show, we just
- 54:52Speaker 1: I just showed them crashing, and I was like, this
- 54:54Speaker 1: is it an idea?
- 54:59Speaker 2: And also the humility of not getting into the club
- 55:02Speaker 2: primed them.
- 55:03Speaker 1: For Yes, it feels like because to your.
- 55:05Speaker 2: Point, it's more interesting like the seller. To me, I'm
- 55:08Speaker 2: not saying I don't still sort of revere it as
- 55:11Speaker 2: a space but like I used to stand.
- 55:13Speaker 3: That's really where I barked on that.
- 55:14Speaker 2: Corner West Third and McDougall, so I could see the
- 55:19Speaker 2: seller and I'd be handing out flyers for another club,
- 55:22Speaker 2: and I'd watch you, said Dub David Off. I saw
- 55:25Speaker 2: Dub David Off in his like comedian leather jacket. It
- 55:27Speaker 2: was very popular at the time. He was crossing the
- 55:30Speaker 2: street and he just went in like it was his
- 55:32Speaker 2: living room. And I literally I'm handing out flyers. People
- 55:35Speaker 2: are taking them, throwing them away right in front of me,
- 55:37Speaker 2: and I'm like, I look at Devi and I just go, someday,
- 55:42Speaker 2: I really did this, I said someday out loud. And
- 55:47Speaker 2: what I didn't, I'd like to think I had some
- 55:50Speaker 2: appreciation for the struggle and the climb. I was that
- 55:53Speaker 2: guy that used to say they're going to write books
- 55:55Speaker 2: about this, like at an open mic in Chicago. So
- 55:58Speaker 2: three years in I'd be like, they're going to write
- 56:00Speaker 2: books about this. My friend Mike Bredenstein just wrote a
- 56:03Speaker 2: book about that comedy scene. So it was true, like
- 56:07Speaker 2: they did write books about it. But like, so I
- 56:09Speaker 2: did appreciate it. I wasn't postponing at all, but like
- 56:13Speaker 2: looking back again just to that point, like that sort
- 56:16Speaker 2: of was the juiciest. I prefer this a million times,
- 56:21Speaker 2: but that was the most interesting time of my life
- 56:24Speaker 2: to look at something and go someday.
- 56:27Speaker 4: Like there's very little.
- 56:28Speaker 2: In my life that I look at and go someday,
- 56:32Speaker 2: you know what I mean, Like a cruising altitude is
- 56:34Speaker 2: way less interesting than in this sense. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 56:37Speaker 2: makes sense.
- 56:37Speaker 4: I did the Thursday Mike at the Grizzly Pair for
- 56:40Speaker 4: like three years. And you'd take the West fourth subway station,
- 56:44Speaker 4: get out, you walk past the cage and then turn
- 56:47Speaker 4: right and you'd go past the seller I think, or
- 56:51Speaker 4: maybe it was before it, but you'd see it, and
- 56:53Speaker 4: I would always peek at the board with the handwritten names, yeah,
- 56:56Speaker 4: the credits y, and I had that. I mean, it's eerie.
- 56:59Speaker 4: I had the exact same thought to the degree when
- 57:02Speaker 4: I got past, like three or four years ago now,
- 57:06Speaker 4: and I got in and she came up, and we
- 57:08Speaker 4: walked up and she asked me for the headshot of
- 57:09Speaker 4: Ales and all bio and all that, and then I
- 57:12Speaker 4: was just holding it together and I walked out, turned
- 57:15Speaker 4: right where they like back the line up, and then
- 57:17Speaker 4: down that left side street and just openly wept.
- 57:20Speaker 2: Wow, Minetta, that's where we took the poster photo of crashing.
- 57:25Speaker 2: That's where we put the couch on the Nannetta lane.
- 57:27Speaker 4: Right. It meant more to me than anything.
- 57:29Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I didn't need to take away from a
- 57:31Speaker 2: story by telling you an asked nine thing about how
- 57:34Speaker 2: but that is beautiful.
- 57:35Speaker 4: Yeah, you see the summit for so many years, but
- 57:39Speaker 4: you are hiking a smaller mountain. Yeah.
- 57:42Speaker 2: That you know, there's a lot of stories about things
- 57:46Speaker 2: not being what you thought they would be, and I
- 57:49Speaker 2: have lots of stories like that. But doing the seller
- 57:52Speaker 2: for the first time didn't disappoint. But that's what That's
- 57:55Speaker 2: what human beings do is we imbue things with meaning.
- 57:58Speaker 2: And the more year it's like a batter, the more
- 58:00Speaker 2: you charge a place or a thing with meaning, and
- 58:04Speaker 2: then you do it. The thing you get past or
- 58:07Speaker 2: whatever it is, all of that stuff that you actually
- 58:10Speaker 2: put into it, you find what you put into it
- 58:13Speaker 2: is still there. Does that make sense? Like you filled
- 58:16Speaker 2: the toy box and then you open it, You're like,
- 58:18Speaker 2: look at all these toys that was your heart that
- 58:21Speaker 2: you were finding when you did it. Like the place
- 58:23Speaker 2: is it's just a place. But it's fun. What I
- 58:26Speaker 2: realized from doing comedy is like community and a culture
- 58:30Speaker 2: and a thing. All that belonging is super important to
- 58:33Speaker 2: human beings, and like being with other comics and coming
- 58:36Speaker 2: up with them and reuniting with them and all that.
- 58:38Speaker 2: That's so many people don't have culture, like a culture,
- 58:42Speaker 2: and we really have a culture. I think that's one
- 58:44Speaker 2: of the most exciting things about it. So you have
- 58:46Speaker 2: that story and it's also my story. That's why when
- 58:50Speaker 2: I meet a comic, I'm just like, I know we've
- 58:52Speaker 2: met before, but I'm like, I know we have more
- 58:56Speaker 2: in common because we were raised on the same mythology.
- 59:00Speaker 1: See, Sash just takes it as a foregone conclusion, like
- 59:03Speaker 1: he doesn't even aspire to it. He's like this, it's
- 59:05Speaker 1: fucking boring.
- 59:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll this is interesting because the more you suffer,
- 59:10Speaker 2: the more you pull that bow string back right, the
- 59:14Speaker 2: more likely you are to stick with it. And I'm
- 59:16Speaker 2: not I couldn't know. But what it'll be interesting is
- 59:20Speaker 2: will it hold your attention? And it's fine if it doesn't.
- 59:23Speaker 2: But like the guys like I can't include you because
- 59:27Speaker 2: I don't know, But the guys like me, that's really
- 59:30Speaker 2: we're grinding for ten years, you play cards, It's like
- 59:33Speaker 2: being pop committed. Yeah, I put so much into this.
- 59:36Speaker 2: I'm not gonna leave. And now I'm I'm a comedian.
- 59:40Speaker 2: I'm a real comedian. I'm not gonna walk away. But
- 59:41Speaker 2: it's because of that investment up top that you're not
- 59:45Speaker 2: gonna walk away. And I'm not saying you waltzed in
- 59:48Speaker 2: with no effort, but like if you do pop off
- 59:51Speaker 2: really quickly like machine gun. Kelly right, He's like, now
- 59:54Speaker 2: I'm gonna do pop punk and I'm like, yeah, because
- 59:56Speaker 2: you broke when you were like twenty four, No wonder
- 59:58Speaker 2: you're bored, you know, they said, trying to use hip
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: hop references.
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: Now I understand because I was lost for a while. Kelly,
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: did I get it a white wrapper?
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: I only know the white ones mgk.
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: Em yeap and that's both of them.
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: You're forgetting theo Jima Man, what.
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: Do you guys? What's your guys thoughts on meeting your heroes?
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: Because it's a similar thing but often has an antithetical experience.
- 1:00:27Speaker 4: I mean, I think it can go either way more
- 1:00:30Speaker 4: often than not. At least when I've met people I
- 1:00:33Speaker 4: really look up to it. They've been nice. I haven't
- 1:00:37Speaker 4: quite yet had the really disappointing eye opening. Holy shit,
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: I had that guy pegged all wrong.
- 1:00:44Speaker 5: Yeah, I think you got to really put yourself out
- 1:00:46Speaker 5: there for that's even happened though, right for the guy
- 1:00:49Speaker 5: to be like fuck off, right, you got to be
- 1:00:54Speaker 5: saying something like maybe.
- 1:00:57Speaker 4: I mean, you hear those stories about you know, Usually
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: it's like a waiter at a restaurant who serves some
- 1:01:03Speaker 4: celebrity and they're like, no, sorry, this omelet was a disaster.
- 1:01:07Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, or they don't tip well or whatever. I
- 1:01:10Speaker 4: think that's yeah, that's true.
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: Well, once you're super famous, everything you do is a story.
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: And I'm not letting them off the hook for being turns.
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: I'm just saying, like one time when I was coming up,
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: we perform at the UCB and we'd go to this
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: bar across the street and Alec Baldwin was there because
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: he used to be there for like thirty rock reasons
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: I don't know, and he bought our table like chicken wings,
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: and that was a story I told for ten years.
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: Why do you do that?
- 1:01:38Speaker 4: Well he shot one of them, so it was an
- 1:01:41Speaker 4: apology apologetic windows.
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: Yeah, but like the burden of being super famous where
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: if I can't. I didn't even see it coming, but yeah.
- 1:01:54Speaker 3: I sympathize that.
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: When I was doing Crashing, I went to the cellar
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: and there was an su the parked idling out front,
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: kind of your mj uh Ac moment, and I'm going
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: in the club and that's Chappelle came out and he
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: was like, hey, man doing Radio City, Come doing radio
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: He doesn't talk like that.
- 1:02:18Speaker 4: That's pretty sure.
- 1:02:19Speaker 3: That's killing him softly. You got to come and do it.
- 1:02:24Speaker 3: I can't do it.
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: Doing pretty good. Hey man, Hey hey Pete, you gotta
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: come do it. You can kind of hear it.
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I thought the first one was it like that?
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's killing him softly.
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: I don know, I'm saying the first thing lower tone,
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: the cigarette voice, yeah yeah yeah.
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: So he asked me to He was like, we're doing
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: these shows at Radio City, come do it with me.
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: And I was filming Crashing at the time, and I
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: wasn't doing stand up. I was doing fake stand up,
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: which was surprisingly like real stand up, you know, with
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: their background actors, but you're still kind of doing it.
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: But like I didn't.
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: I really didn't want to do it, like because I
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: wasn't strong, I wasn't like doing sets, and I was
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: filming a show twelve hours a day. I'm so happy
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: that he asked me, and I was so honored that
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: he asked me, so of course I said yes.
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: I didn't even think about it. I was like yes,
- 1:03:14Speaker 3: And then.
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: I did some sets of the cellar to warm up.
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: I'm like recording, I'm only doing like seven minutes or something,
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: and like I got to Radio City. I'm sure all
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: of you have done this. In my mind, I'm going
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: to get to Radio City and somebody's gonna spot me
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: and go, mister Holmes, this way, take me down some alleyway,
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: open some doors. It's all purple lighting, big cushy chairs,
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: snacks and drinks, and there's Chappelle of course, and Kevin
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: Hard is there. Everybody's there. It's a scene. We're all
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: hanging out. It was the saddest, loneliest experience of my life.
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: Not really, but I got there. The first thing I did,
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: I walked in with the crowd. I get in and
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: there's like attitude, like pages, like people that work at
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: Radio City, and none of them are happy. They're all like, oh,
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: this fucking crowd. I go Hi, I'm on the show.
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: I'm waiting for someone to be like my goodness, and
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: they're like, you go, you still gotta go through the detector.
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: It was like, all right, I go through. They take
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: my phone, they put it in one of those pouches.
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: Oh on the show.
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: I go, I don't care about what everyone says. They'll
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: I don't care, and they put me in an elevator.
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: I go up to my where my green room is.
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: Remember what I'm picking now at Young Chappelle, what's going on?
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: And it's an empty dressing room like rocket style, like
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: the bulbs some of them are out. There's nothing in
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: this room. Nothing. There's not even water, there's nothing. I'm
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: sitting in this long room designed for the Rocket by
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: myself with my phone in a bag like a fucking dipshit.
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: I go, well, I'm sure there's like water in the fridge.
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: I open the fridge. This fridge hasn't been on you off,
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: you know that smell. It just smells like an off fridge.
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: I close it and I just sit there and I
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: realize I'm nervous because I haven't been performing and my
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: set is on my phone. Looking back, I would have
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: cut open the bad for you. Fuck all of this
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: and I'm going last I'm head. You know what, that
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: would be a good story. I didn't. You know, when
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: you're like confidence is shook, you don't think of solutions.
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: You don't think like I can cut this open. Nobody's
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: gonna know or care.
- 1:05:45Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: Spiral, yeah, a spiral.
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: I'm catastrophzed.
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: I'm like, I can't even get my set. I fucking
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: went down and that's where everybody. I went downstairs before
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: the show. That's where everybody was. But I went and
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: it was like, not super fun. Lauren Hill was there though,
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: Lauren Hill saw me. Dude, okay, but Chappelle was very nice.
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: None of that is on Chappelle. But afterwards I went
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: up into his dressing room. Nobody said anything about my set.
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: Nobody's thinking about you. Nobody's like, yeah, I did fine,
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: I did well. That's not really the story. In fact,
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: when you're performing at Radio City, what I learned. I
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: forgot what my opening joke was, but I'm sure I
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: had something fast. I said it, and I'm like, oh,
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: it didn't work, And then this like tidal wave of
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: laughter hits you like three seconds later, so you realize
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: you have to like, wait, there's like a delight. There's
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: a flag in that many people like you know when
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: a truck goes by you and then you feel the wind.
- 1:06:41Speaker 3: It was like that. It was not it was not chill.
- 1:06:44Speaker 7: I mean that's a pretty How many people does that
- 1:06:47Speaker 7: room sit like?
- 1:06:47Speaker 4: I think it?
- 1:06:48Speaker 5: Damn that's crazy. It was crazy walking in with the
- 1:06:53Speaker 5: audience is hilarious.
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: Yeah, and them being really rude. No one said welcome,
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: no one said.
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: People in the audience being like Pete no.
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: And it's interesting.
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: I think crashing must have made me a lot more
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: recognizable because at that time I could still just walk
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: into Radio City with seven thousand comedy fans.
- 1:07:15Speaker 3: No one said shit.
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: People were like get in the fucking metal detecture and
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: I was like sorry, sorry.
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: Was a lot of the crashing stuff pretty analogous to
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: stuff that had happened to you or or were like
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: like one of the storylines like somebody like shaves before
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: a show? Oh yeah, shaves just face? Is that and
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: at all based?
- 1:07:39Speaker 3: That had to be somebody.
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: It's funny that you picked that's the one of two
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: episodes I didn't write. So out of this shocked I thought, yeah,
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: it was missing a certain.
- 1:07:51Speaker 5: No.
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: Judah Miller, who is our show runner, wrote that one,
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: and obviously I was involved, but there were twenty four
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: episodes and I wrote twenty two of them, and you.
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: Know, other people were involved.
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: But I always like to do the first pass, and
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: usually everything would have some sort of corollary, but that
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: one might have been somebody else's story, like or it's
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: just kind of general what is it? No big moves
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: on game day, like don't change the routine the morning
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: of the race. We just wanted to kind of talk
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: about that. But almost everything in there is something, and
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: a lot of the good advice that I got, like
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: Marina Franklin says to me something that somebody said to me.
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: I forget who, or it'll come to me, but she said,
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: if it sucks, that's how you know you're doing it right,
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: And that was such a That's what crashing is about,
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: is like it's not oh, this sucks, I must suck.
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: It's like, no, actually, it's what we were saying earlier.
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: It sucks for everybody. And this is like kind of
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: a beautiful rite of passage to bomb at the village lantern,
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: Like you know, who's bombed at the village lantern, fucking everybody,
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: like welcome, Like take your stripes, you know what I mean,
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: like being folded in and just like you know, I
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: don't think it's a stretch to say, like just like
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: male initiation, all these things, they're always kind of painful.
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: There's always something, there's some sacrifice. I think doing an
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: awful road gig is. I'm not into branding, but it's
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: like your way of being branded as a comic. Again.
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: It's why I feel kinship to comedians. I'm like, I know,
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: you know what a comedy condo is. Like, I've also
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: had a guy named Mooke ask me for truth like
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: that that does bind you together?
- 1:09:31Speaker 4: Why if you don't mind me asking why why did
- 1:09:36Speaker 4: were you guys trying to have a fourth season of Crashing?
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: Oh no, I don't mind that at all.
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: We were. It's funny. It's hard to know if if
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: it's if you're like changing the memory to make yourself
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: into a psychic. But there. I think people on the
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: stuff would agree that there was a feeling that we
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: weren't going to get a fourth season while we were
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: making the third sun okay, and when we shot a
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: last shot right by the Papaya Dog where I'm walking
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: with Jamie or Alli is her character's name, but it's
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: Jamie Lee.
- 1:10:08Speaker 3: She and I are walking.
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: We shot two versions of it, one where we kiss
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: and one where we don't kiss, And we knew that
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: the kiss version would be if we're canceled, and we
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: were canceled, and we do the kiss version because that's like,
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: that's a series arc, like oh okay, like and I'm
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: really proud of that.
- 1:10:25Speaker 3: Like Pete, I'm worried.
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: This sounds disingenuous, But if we had done a fourth
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: season because we broke it, we were starting to outline it,
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: Pete would have gotten a talk show. That's what happened
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: to me next. And then it's not crashing anymore. It's
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: it's flourishing. It's supposed to be about a guy whose
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: only dream was to be folded into the New York
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: comedy scene. And it ends and he's folded into the
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: New York comedy scene. He's passed. I don't know if
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: he's passed.
- 1:10:50Speaker 3: I can't even remember I got passed.
- 1:10:52Speaker 4: You were with Jabouki on that and talking to st right, Okay.
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: Oh yeah, Jabuki's in that. I forgot Yeah, Jabuki white
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: and she passes me. So Pete, my character, Pete is
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: now going to do comedy and that's all he wanted
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: to do.
- 1:11:04Speaker 3: And the girlfriend, And this is.
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: Sort of telling about something I had to figure out
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: as a person too. Jamie Jamie's character was just kind
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: of she represented like comedy, like just my life. Like
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: I'm happy with her because I'm happy that I'm in comedy.
- 1:11:20Speaker 3: Like I don't think Pete and Jamie.
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: Stay together or Ali Jamie, but you know what I mean.
- 1:11:25Speaker 4: Yeah, I had a huge crush on her from that show.
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: Oh she's great. Yeah, she's so fabulous. We're dear friends
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: and we dated for a year. In real life we
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: were friends.
- 1:11:36Speaker 4: I didn't really like her that much I would, I like,
- 1:11:39Speaker 4: I respect her friendly, I'm sort of glad that a
- 1:11:44Speaker 4: friend of mine, and right because of that, I only
- 1:11:47Speaker 4: see her in platonic terms and.
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: I always said that I love her. We don't think
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: of each other in that way. It's very Jerry Elaine,
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: Like we dated a little bit, but like we've been
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: friends for ten over ten times times that so it
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: really is like something I never thought I would have.
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: But like a true close girlfriend friend who was a girlfriend. Yeah,
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: you know what I mean, very brief.
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: One of the things I subconsciously stole from the show
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: is when I'll see someone doing a joke and I'll
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: just be like, so good, so good, so good?
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: Was her episode and Jamie, you know I should step
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: that out a little bit. She was writing on the
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: show and she auditioned. I think when we were promoting it,
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: Jamie was kind of like, maybe don't mention we dated,
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: So I do want to step that out and be
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: like she got it on her own accord. There was
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: no like word I put in. She auditioned and Jed
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: was blown away, and I think it was probably picking
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: up on this chemistry that we had as friends.
- 1:12:43Speaker 3: But she earned it and she was fabulous.
- 1:12:45Speaker 4: Do you want us to cut that whole thing starting
- 1:12:46Speaker 4: with me saying that I have a crush on her?
- 1:12:48Speaker 4: We can go cloud?
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: Are you kidding.
- 1:12:53Speaker 4: Out that whole part?
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: I think Jamie, you'd be dumb to not have a
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: crush on Jamie. She's so funny and wonderful.
- 1:13:00Speaker 4: She went on to write for Ted Lasso.
- 1:13:01Speaker 3: Right yep.
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: And I believe were you really going to crush on it?
- 1:13:05Speaker 4: Well? I was just impressed. And then I and then
- 1:13:07Speaker 4: I did a show that she was on very shortly
- 1:13:10Speaker 4: after that, where I was like, whoa, I thought you
- 1:13:12Speaker 4: were doing better than this, And then I saw that
- 1:13:16Speaker 4: she was. She was on ted Lasso I.
- 1:13:19Speaker 5: She was on the when I filmed A Don't Tell
- 1:13:21Speaker 5: set like two years ago in San Diego, and I
- 1:13:25Speaker 5: was watching Crashing and she was on the show.
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: Oh wow, And.
- 1:13:29Speaker 4: I was like, what the fuck?
- 1:13:30Speaker 3: That's crazy, that's crazy.
- 1:13:32Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: Yeah, the building the fake Boston exterior because the Boston's gone.
- 1:13:37Speaker 4: Yeah, but it was Greenwich Comedy Club right or did
- 1:13:40Speaker 4: you film it?
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: Oh? Where the exterior The interior was a set, oh,
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: which is insane. Wow, And the exterior was like a
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: frozen yogurt shop or something.
- 1:13:51Speaker 4: Is the Boston what Greenwich Comedy Club is now? It's
- 1:13:55Speaker 4: like three doors down from the cellar.
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: Next to the fire station.
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know. I would imagine. So isn't that
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: on the strip or is that no?
- 1:14:05Speaker 4: The strips on the upper east side.
- 1:14:07Speaker 3: This is West third right by the.
- 1:14:10Speaker 7: I feel like, isn't there like ten clubs on that street?
- 1:14:13Speaker 3: Yes, and there's going to be more that McDonald's justah.
- 1:14:15Speaker 4: But the Village Lantern just got shut down Oh really, Yeah,
- 1:14:19Speaker 4: it's a bummer ahead of time.
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: Yeah, you guys are yeah, you're.
- 1:14:24Speaker 3: You're having a great time. I'm just aware that we
- 1:14:26Speaker 3: have another thing.
- 1:14:26Speaker 4: Ab are you going to do a set on Colbert? No,
- 1:14:30Speaker 4: you'll just guessed yes.
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: But what's great about that is you just do you know.
- 1:14:39Speaker 2: Usually on a pre interview a producer will like ask
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: you about your life and be like, oh, you have
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: a daughter or whatever. But when we do Colbert, you
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: just go like, I want to do this bet and
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: this been and this been and this bed and you
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: do plan it like a set. Oh that's nice.
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: But then he's there.
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: It's so fun.
- 1:14:54Speaker 3: It's so set you up. He sets you up.
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: And there's a clip of me where sometimes he doesn't help.
- 1:15:03Speaker 3: In any way.
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: I had a joke. Yeah, I had a joke about
- 1:15:06Speaker 2: how like we all have group mode and we have
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: solo mode, and like some I was recently with somebody
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: and I watched them transition from group mode to solo mode,
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: and he was like, but if you were there, how
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: could they have been alone? And I just yelled at
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: him for five minutes, like you're supposed to help me.
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: But that that's funny too, Like I don't. I don't care,
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: like if the bits don't come out or if one
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: of the you know, you really run a risk with
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: somebody as fast and funny as Steven that he's going
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: to know where the joke is going and very well
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: may say the punchline before you get there. So you
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: just have to It's an exercise and fluidity. You just
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: go like, that's exactly right. You have to be like,
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: I'm glad you got that first, and let's let's go
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: into it. You have to so there is something conversational
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: to it.
- 1:15:51Speaker 4: But I mean, Letterman would never but.
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: I don't think Letterman was trying. He was just planning
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: his dinners. I love Letterman, but I know what you mean.
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: He wasn't really like chomping.
- 1:16:02Speaker 4: And he wouldn't cut your punchline from you.
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: Because he was more relaxed. I think Colbert is definitely
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: I don't know. I think it might go down as
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: one of the great honors of my career to be
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: in these last ten weeks of shows, because it's really
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: he's having people on us. It's a dumb flex no
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: that he likes. Yeah, and I'm just taking I'm having
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: a moment of gratitude to be.
- 1:16:25Speaker 4: Like that's yeah.
- 1:16:26Speaker 5: It's like when Norm did Letterman's last episode, just who
- 1:16:31Speaker 5: do you want to mess around?
- 1:16:32Speaker 4: Exactly?
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: And Conan, you know, Conan and I did a talk
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: show together. Conan used to call Martin Short a day off,
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: and that's the compliment.
- 1:16:41Speaker 3: I'm always great.
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: I want the host to say that was a day off,
