- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:06Speaker 2: It's time for the almost famous podcast. We are here,
- 0:09Speaker 2: Well it's not we. I mean it is we, but
- 0:12Speaker 2: it isn't your typical we. Ashley isn't with us today
- 0:15Speaker 2: because today is our very special episode talking about a
- 0:19Speaker 2: new baby into the Higgins family. My wife Jessica's here
- 0:22Speaker 2: with me today as my co host.
- 0:24Speaker 3: Yeah, and we both were pink today on accident.
- 0:27Speaker 2: It was on accident. I did not think about that.
- 0:30Speaker 2: That actually feels like something I would stay away from doing.
- 0:33Speaker 3: Yeah, you're not a fan of it, but I love it.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Yeah, Today we're here just to give you some of
- 0:39Speaker 2: the insights, the details. We haven't talked to anybody yet
- 0:42Speaker 2: except for you know, on social media about kind of
- 0:46Speaker 2: our big announcement and the path to getting there and
- 0:49Speaker 2: what we're excited about, and so I think we just
- 0:52Speaker 2: wanted to sit down with the almost famous listeners and
- 0:55Speaker 2: kind of explain everything. I think the big first question
- 0:58Speaker 2: that people are asking and that we should be answering
- 1:01Speaker 2: is was this expected?
- 1:04Speaker 3: Yes, it was very expected, and I had been trying
- 1:08Speaker 3: for a decent amount of time and we were referred
- 1:13Speaker 3: to a fertility clinic by my doctor because I wasn't
- 1:17Speaker 3: ovulating regularly, so we did this through a fertility clinic.
- 1:21Speaker 3: We did IUI, which is the step before IVF. So
- 1:27Speaker 3: I don't know should I get into what IUI is?
- 1:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I think people would be interested.
- 1:31Speaker 3: Okay, So IUI is where I took some medicine or
- 1:36Speaker 3: hormone stimulating medicine for about two weeks.
- 1:39Speaker 2: I call it. So when somebody asked me to explain it,
- 1:41Speaker 2: I say, it just makes you like a baby making machine.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:46Speaker 3: It took me like a month to make myself a
- 1:48Speaker 3: baby making machine. So I took some medicine and then
- 1:52Speaker 3: when the timing was right, I gave myself a shot
- 1:55Speaker 3: to make myself ovulate and then it's basically direct sperm insertion.
- 2:00Speaker 3: And it's like the medical way to explain it.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Is that explain that?
- 2:03Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 2:04Speaker 2: I feel so aggressive.
- 2:06Speaker 3: What happened?
- 2:08Speaker 2: That was my one and only job?
- 2:11Speaker 3: He crushed it. We Yeah, it actually it took us
- 2:16Speaker 3: one try of IUI. So when it comes to fertility journeys,
- 2:18Speaker 3: we got really really lucky. We had a great doctor,
- 2:20Speaker 3: we had a great experience, and I kind of had
- 2:24Speaker 3: a feeling it worked on the first try. They were
- 2:26Speaker 3: going to give us six tries for EUI before IVF,
- 2:29Speaker 3: and so Ben was like, we have about six months,
- 2:32Speaker 3: so he was shocked when it worked on the first try.
- 2:36Speaker 2: I was shocked. I mean, I'm surprised just because I know,
- 2:39Speaker 2: you know, it's not easy. Uh, And I think you're
- 2:43Speaker 2: always going to be a little shocked, like when somebody
- 2:45Speaker 2: tells you, hey, you have a little baby coming into
- 2:48Speaker 2: this world and it's inside of me, Like, I think
- 2:51Speaker 2: that's a little shocking idea.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, that's true. It's still kind of weird.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Well, so how many weeks long are you as of
- 3:00Speaker 2: this show?
- 3:00Speaker 3: As of this very second, I'm sixteen weeks exactly, baby
- 3:04Speaker 3: size of a avocado, four to five inches long.
- 3:08Speaker 2: But we have known for a while, so we found
- 3:10Speaker 2: out when the baby was what three weeks?
- 3:13Speaker 3: Well, counting pregnancy weeks is so weird because like I was,
- 3:17Speaker 3: technically we knew exactly I was two weeks, but they
- 3:21Speaker 3: counted like two weeks before that, So we've known since
- 3:24Speaker 3: I was in pregnancy terms four weeks, four.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Weeks, Okay, since we've found out, how did you tell me?
- 3:30Speaker 2: I tie, I guess how did you find out? And
- 3:31Speaker 2: then how did you tell me?
- 3:32Speaker 3: So after IUI, they say you can take a pregnancy
- 3:35Speaker 3: test at home two weeks later, and it was literally
- 3:39Speaker 3: exactly two weeks and I woke up at four am
- 3:42Speaker 3: like so excited because I just had this gut feeling
- 3:45Speaker 3: that it was going to be positive, and I'd taken
- 3:47Speaker 3: so many negative pregnancy tests that I just wanted to
- 3:50Speaker 3: see a positive so bad, even if something happened in
- 3:53Speaker 3: the pregnancy, I was just I was so excited. So
- 3:56Speaker 3: I woke up at four am. I took the test
- 3:59Speaker 3: and just kind of like stared at it for about
- 4:01Speaker 3: two hours, and then Ben was I heard Ben moving
- 4:05Speaker 3: upstairs and Whalan, our dog, was downstairs with me. So
- 4:08Speaker 3: I tied a bandana around Whale that said big brother,
- 4:11Speaker 3: and I said him up to.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Wake you up, and he did wake me up. I
- 4:14Speaker 2: just thought he was looking cute with the bandana. I
- 4:15Speaker 2: didn't know what the bandana sex, it was so early
- 4:17Speaker 2: in the morning, but then I finally looked at it
- 4:20Speaker 2: and it said I'm going to be a big brother,
- 4:22Speaker 2: which was the cutest thing, like double cutest thing to see.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Little Wayne in wanted to be a big brother and
- 4:28Speaker 2: he was so happy. He was so proud, so proud
- 4:31Speaker 2: of his bandana, so proud to wake me up. Now.
- 4:35Speaker 2: From that point forward, I think for us, we kind
- 4:37Speaker 2: of sat in it just with each other. We were excited,
- 4:42Speaker 2: and you know, we talked about it a lot, but
- 4:43Speaker 2: it was something that we kind of wanted to hold
- 4:45Speaker 2: on to for for not only like the appropriate reasons
- 4:48Speaker 2: where it's like, hey, we just don't need to tell
- 4:50Speaker 2: everybody right away, but also just you know, for our
- 4:53Speaker 2: own privacy. However, at about two weeks later, my parents
- 5:00Speaker 2: came to visit, and it was Father's Day, and so
- 5:03Speaker 2: we were going to obviously do a FaceTime with your parents,
- 5:07Speaker 2: and so we decided at that point to tell them first.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Walk us through how we told both, because I think
- 5:12Speaker 2: they're both really special.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Yes, so for my dad, me and my siblings pitched
- 5:19Speaker 3: in will meet my siblings, and our spouses pitched in
- 5:22Speaker 3: to get him one of those picture frames. I think
- 5:24Speaker 3: we did the Aura frame where you can upload a
- 5:27Speaker 3: photo and it'll show it in real time. Because my
- 5:31Speaker 3: brother has a baby, and we obviously live far away.
- 5:34Speaker 3: My little brother lives far away, so it's fun to
- 5:36Speaker 3: be able to share photos back and forth. So we
- 5:39Speaker 3: got in this picture frame, and since I bought it,
- 5:42Speaker 3: I had like the activation code, so I said, you
- 5:44Speaker 3: have to FaceTime me so I can teach him how
- 5:46Speaker 3: to set it up whatever. So everyone was together for
- 5:48Speaker 3: Father's Day brunch and they facetimed me and I gave
- 5:52Speaker 3: him the activation code and then I was explaining how
- 5:54Speaker 3: it worked. Now you can upload a photo in real time,
- 5:57Speaker 3: and I was like, here, I'll upload a photo and
- 5:59Speaker 3: show you how it works. And I uploaded my positive
- 6:01Speaker 3: pregnancy test. So my whole family was there, minus my
- 6:04Speaker 3: little brother who he facetimed earlier that day and just
- 6:07Speaker 3: told But they were so excited and so surprised.
- 6:11Speaker 2: We do have that, like on video, right, Yeah, I'm
- 6:13Speaker 2: share that at some point.
- 6:14Speaker 3: Yeah, we can share that video. And then for Ben's dad,
- 6:18Speaker 3: they came the day after Father's Day and we got
- 6:21Speaker 3: him a Father's Day card that said the best dads
- 6:24Speaker 3: get promoted to Grandpa. And he gave it to him
- 6:27Speaker 3: in person and he said, are you trying to tell
- 6:30Speaker 3: me something?
- 6:33Speaker 2: And you said, yes, I'm pregnant. You know I'm an
- 6:38Speaker 2: only child, So I think my parents I'm not kidding
- 6:43Speaker 2: when I say I feel like I remember them talking
- 6:45Speaker 2: about having grandkids when I was still in high school. Yeah,
- 6:48Speaker 2: like I think this is their super Bowl.
- 6:51Speaker 3: Yeah, they're so excited.
- 6:52Speaker 2: But the cool part is your parents and my parents.
- 6:56Speaker 2: I never realized this, I guess growing up. Grandparents get
- 7:01Speaker 2: really excited about having grandkids. Like both of our sets
- 7:04Speaker 2: of parents aren't just like this is gonna be awesome.
- 7:08Speaker 2: They're like over the moon, referring to it as their baby,
- 7:11Speaker 2: Like they are so excited.
- 7:13Speaker 3: I mean, you get all of the fun of having
- 7:15Speaker 3: a kid with none of the responsibility, Like they've already
- 7:18Speaker 3: had the responsibility part. This is just fun for them,
- 7:21Speaker 3: you know.
- 7:21Speaker 2: So it must be fun to have a kid. Though
- 7:25Speaker 2: at least it's it's like enjoyable enough where you're like,
- 7:27Speaker 2: I want to do this again.
- 7:28Speaker 3: I think it's gonna be so fun.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Yeah, that's I mean, that's I think where we need
- 7:32Speaker 2: to transition into next is you know, somebody wrote in
- 7:35Speaker 2: and asked, how do you think I'll be as a
- 7:37Speaker 2: girl dad, because obviously we did find out the gender.
- 7:40Speaker 2: We're both wanting to find out the gender. I think
- 7:43Speaker 2: for me and my reasoning is, I'm more of a
- 7:45Speaker 2: like planner. I don't like inefficiencies, and so I was
- 7:49Speaker 2: thinking if people are gonna get stuff for us and
- 7:51Speaker 2: we're gonna buy stuff for ourselves, we should know the gender.
- 7:55Speaker 2: So everything like matches, you know, ready go, We're off
- 7:58Speaker 2: and running and I just don't want to wait. Yeah,
- 8:00Speaker 2: and I'm glad we did find out. Yeah, but we
- 8:02Speaker 2: did find out it was a baby girl. So how
- 8:06Speaker 2: do you think I'll be as a girl dad.
- 8:08Speaker 3: I think you're gonna be the best girl dad in
- 8:10Speaker 3: the whole world. I think you're just going to love
- 8:14Speaker 3: her and encourage her and tell her she's beautiful. And
- 8:17Speaker 3: I know the way that you make me feel, and
- 8:19Speaker 3: I just can't imagine the way you're going to make
- 8:21Speaker 3: our daughter feel, just like so wrapped in love. You're
- 8:24Speaker 3: also more emotional than me, not at this very second,
- 8:29Speaker 3: but in normal life, and so I just think she's
- 8:32Speaker 3: gonna wreck you in like the best way. Yeah. I
- 8:36Speaker 3: sent them a video on Instagram yesterday of a little
- 8:38Speaker 3: girl in a princess dress showing her dad. He replied
- 8:44Speaker 3: and said, why would you send this?
- 8:46Speaker 2: Very sweet?
- 8:47Speaker 3: It was very sweet. I just can't wait for a
- 8:49Speaker 3: little girl to run up to in a princess dress
- 8:51Speaker 3: and hug you and just getting emotional talking about.
- 8:54Speaker 2: It, just stop talking about it. I feel like I
- 9:09Speaker 2: am more set up to be a father of a
- 9:12Speaker 2: girl at this point, now that we found this out.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Like at first, I was like, oh, man, like it'd
- 9:16Speaker 2: be fun to just like let them, you know, get dirty,
- 9:18Speaker 2: And we're gonna still do that. But boys are different.
- 9:21Speaker 2: We have a lot of boys that live around us,
- 9:22Speaker 2: and all of our friends have had boys. Boys just
- 9:25Speaker 2: kind of cause chaos. I'm sure girls do that in
- 9:28Speaker 2: their own beautiful way. But I do feel like when
- 9:31Speaker 2: it comes to especially especially the motions, like the emotions,
- 9:36Speaker 2: I'm better set up for it. I'm just worried that
- 9:38Speaker 2: I'm gonna become like a mess, like I'm going to
- 9:42Speaker 2: lose all toughness, and I don't have a lot left,
- 9:45Speaker 2: Like I don't think I've ever any of the left.
- 9:47Speaker 3: I think you have a lot of toughness left. And
- 9:49Speaker 3: I think that when she's a teenager, you'll like get
- 9:52Speaker 3: that grip back. But I think when she's really little,
- 9:56Speaker 3: I do think she's gonna have you wrapped around her
- 9:58Speaker 3: finger in the best way.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Well, you know. I think the question then ride back
- 10:03Speaker 2: to you is how do you feel like you're gonna
- 10:05Speaker 2: be raising a girl? And are you excited for it?
- 10:08Speaker 3: I I'm so excited. I need to start by saying
- 10:11Speaker 3: that I just always thought I was going to be
- 10:13Speaker 3: a boy mom, Like I grew up doing sports, I
- 10:16Speaker 3: grew up with brothers. I like just feel like I
- 10:19Speaker 3: would have a lot of fun with a little boy.
- 10:21Speaker 3: But now that I know it's a girl, I'm so
- 10:24Speaker 3: I feel like I'm just carrying my best friend and
- 10:26Speaker 3: my belly. Like I know the relationship I have with
- 10:29Speaker 3: my mom, and I just feel like we're gonna be
- 10:32Speaker 3: like the very best of friends. And she's gonna be
- 10:34Speaker 3: my little twin. And she might not be, but my prayers,
- 10:38Speaker 3: that were really good friends. And I'm so excited to
- 10:40Speaker 3: get all the girly things, Like we got a box
- 10:42Speaker 3: of bows from my mom, and I like that made
- 10:45Speaker 3: me so excited because I'm I'm just excited to be
- 10:48Speaker 3: a girl. Mom. I don't know every bit of it.
- 10:51Speaker 3: I'm excited to watch princess movies with her, dress up
- 10:54Speaker 3: with her. It's gonna be so fun.
- 10:56Speaker 2: I only know how to put a bow on a girl.
- 10:58Speaker 3: And no, he didn't know how to open the bu No.
- 11:01Speaker 2: I didn't actually hurt my finger. I actually cut my
- 11:03Speaker 2: finger trying to do it. There's been some really fun
- 11:07Speaker 2: things that have happened that I think people would enjoy
- 11:09Speaker 2: hearing about, and I always enjoy joy hearing about it. Obviously,
- 11:13Speaker 2: this is something that we wanted, we planned for, we're
- 11:15Speaker 2: excited about. This wasn't like an unexpected shock to us,
- 11:18Speaker 2: but it's been an unexpected level of joy that I
- 11:21Speaker 2: think you and I both experienced. You've been a trooper.
- 11:25Speaker 2: You felt pretty terrible for a long time, like you've
- 11:28Speaker 2: been really sick through this journey, and now you're starting
- 11:32Speaker 2: to feel like, come, you know, to the other side.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Food isn't so much of a weird turn off, it's
- 11:37Speaker 2: now like you're more into it. Do you want to
- 11:40Speaker 2: elaborate on that at all?
- 11:42Speaker 3: Yeah. I was really sick my first trimester, just in
- 11:46Speaker 3: every way you can possibly imagine. And I wouldn't take
- 11:48Speaker 3: nausee and medicine for a long time because that first trimester,
- 11:52Speaker 3: you like don't look pregnant, and the only way you
- 11:54Speaker 3: really feel pregnant is with your nausea. And I was like,
- 11:57Speaker 3: I just want the reminder that like, she's there and
- 11:59Speaker 3: she's good, because I always heard nauseum in a healthy baby,
- 12:02Speaker 3: but then it got to the point where I was like,
- 12:04Speaker 3: give me, give me the meds.
- 12:06Speaker 2: Like she's there, she's good, give me the meds.
- 12:09Speaker 3: But yeah, it was the first trimester. Everyone said, it's
- 12:13Speaker 3: really hard. It's really hard. But looking back, like it's
- 12:17Speaker 3: a blur now.
- 12:18Speaker 2: You know, Yeah, I guess for you, probably for me,
- 12:21Speaker 2: it feels like it was last week, which kind of was.
- 12:25Speaker 3: You know.
- 12:25Speaker 2: It's it's interesting to see just like evolve into this
- 12:32Speaker 2: mom like to be sick and kind of want to
- 12:35Speaker 2: be sick, like in this weird way, like I don't
- 12:37Speaker 2: understand it, and I'm so thankful that she's the one
- 12:40Speaker 2: carrying this child, because I think for me, i'd be like,
- 12:42Speaker 2: just give me the medicine right away. I don't want
- 12:44Speaker 2: to feel this at all. But you have just really
- 12:47Speaker 2: like enjoyed already kind of becoming a mom and being
- 12:51Speaker 2: a mom. It's been really fun to watch. Uh. But
- 12:56Speaker 2: obviously there have been, you know, stages to this process,
- 13:00Speaker 2: us of wanting to have a baby, waiting for that
- 13:03Speaker 2: positive test, waiting a few more weeks to tell anybody.
- 13:07Speaker 2: So you and I were just kind of living in
- 13:08Speaker 2: our own world. There's a spot out here in Colorado
- 13:13Speaker 2: that you've kind of been visiting and just praying. You've
- 13:16Speaker 2: shared about it on your social media, but prayer has
- 13:18Speaker 2: been a big kind of foundation for you during this time,
- 13:23Speaker 2: Like it's really been something you've leaned on. What have
- 13:26Speaker 2: you kind of learned through those moments of silence?
- 13:29Speaker 3: Yeah, I with my job, I talked to women all
- 13:32Speaker 3: day and I've heard great stories about pregnancy and horrible
- 13:36Speaker 3: stories about pregnancy and the highs and the lows, and
- 13:41Speaker 3: it's like terrified me a little bit. So I've had
- 13:44Speaker 3: a lot of days where I've just felt really uneasy
- 13:47Speaker 3: and like why should we have a healthy baby? Like
- 13:49Speaker 3: why do we get to have one? And so in
- 13:54Speaker 3: those moments, I've just gone and like sat and just
- 13:57Speaker 3: prayed a lot of prayers of like thankfulness and just
- 14:00Speaker 3: I can't believe I'm this lucky to have a healthy baby,
- 14:03Speaker 3: but also just like take away these anxieties, Like I
- 14:07Speaker 3: don't want to project those anxieties onto my baby, and
- 14:10Speaker 3: I also just don't want to feel that way when
- 14:12Speaker 3: this is a really exciting time. I know most first
- 14:15Speaker 3: time moms get those. You know, you're scared, you're like
- 14:19Speaker 3: responsible for this little life, and you want to do
- 14:20Speaker 3: everything to make sure it's okay, but a lot of
- 14:23Speaker 3: it's out of your control. So that the prayer garden
- 14:27Speaker 3: I go to, just it's brought me so much peace.
- 14:30Speaker 3: Like I just leave there and I'm like, ah, everything's okay.
- 14:33Speaker 3: Even if I can't control that, it's going to be okay.
- 14:35Speaker 3: So I think just like giving up a lot of
- 14:38Speaker 3: those control pieces has been huge for me.
- 14:40Speaker 2: And that's been the most common prayer that you've been praying,
- 14:43Speaker 2: is the control piece.
- 14:45Speaker 3: Yeah, And like I don't want to feel anxious this
- 14:47Speaker 3: whole time, Like I don't want to feel anxious for
- 14:49Speaker 3: the next twenty four weeks. I want to continue to
- 14:51Speaker 3: be excited.
- 14:53Speaker 2: You can feel anxious for the next twenty four weeks
- 14:55Speaker 2: because then I'll take over and.
- 14:56Speaker 3: Feel anxious to eighteen years.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Probably longer than that. Yeah, this, you know, I think
- 15:04Speaker 2: it's been really fun to just fun and you know,
- 15:07Speaker 2: it reminds you. I think it's a good reminder of
- 15:10Speaker 2: why we got married too. It was like what about
- 15:15Speaker 2: each other that we love, respected, appreciated. You know, you're
- 15:18Speaker 2: married for a few years, you're living life side by side.
- 15:22Speaker 2: We've had a really fun couple of years just the
- 15:24Speaker 2: two of us. And then you know, we we enter
- 15:27Speaker 2: into this new stage of life and you see how
- 15:29Speaker 2: your partner is reacting to it, and it's like, no,
- 15:31Speaker 2: this is why, you know, this is what I thought
- 15:34Speaker 2: I was getting at the beginning, you know, and why
- 15:37Speaker 2: we we wanted to commit to each other for the
- 15:39Speaker 2: rest of our lives. It is a really exciting time.
- 15:42Speaker 2: I would say personally, I have had many different emotions,
- 15:47Speaker 2: like I can't and I've we've talked about it. I
- 15:50Speaker 2: can't honestly say that the idea of having a chot
- 15:53Speaker 2: like a baby ever like euphorically brought joy to me.
- 15:59Speaker 2: When we were talking about it, I was like, I
- 16:00Speaker 2: know it's something I want to do. I know it's
- 16:03Speaker 2: something that I will enjoy doing. I have no clue
- 16:06Speaker 2: what that looks like. I don't even know what I'm
- 16:08Speaker 2: excited about. Yeah, but I'm not like I was. I
- 16:12Speaker 2: tried to be as honest with you as possible. It
- 16:14Speaker 2: was like I don't want to tell you, like, yes,
- 16:16Speaker 2: I am so overly excited about this. There was actually
- 16:21Speaker 2: like kind of like a numbness and emotion towards it.
- 16:24Speaker 2: There was an anxiety when we were talking through it
- 16:27Speaker 2: was more of just a I don't even know what
- 16:28Speaker 2: this means, Like I don't even know what this is
- 16:31Speaker 2: that I should be expecting. And I like to prepare
- 16:34Speaker 2: myself for big moments, and I couldn't prepare myself for this.
- 16:38Speaker 2: So then we find out we're pregnant. You're pregnant. We're
- 16:42Speaker 2: not pregnant. No, I'm very much not a part of
- 16:46Speaker 2: this team right now. I have zero role other than
- 16:51Speaker 2: just like kind of stay out of the way. But
- 16:54Speaker 2: and then when we find out we found out, I
- 16:58Speaker 2: was immediately so anxious, like so nervous, Like my mind
- 17:05Speaker 2: went to, what in the world am I about to do?
- 17:08Speaker 2: I'm not ready for this. I'm a child myself. I
- 17:11Speaker 2: don't have that anything prepared. What am I doing? Like,
- 17:14Speaker 2: how do we think this makes work? And then I
- 17:16Speaker 2: just kept remind myself when you're thirty five years old,
- 17:18Speaker 2: if you're not gonna do it now, you're never gonna
- 17:19Speaker 2: do it. Okay. Then the next stage was emotion. I
- 17:33Speaker 2: could watch the stupidest videos on Instagram or a commercial
- 17:37Speaker 2: with a child running up to their dad and just
- 17:39Speaker 2: start crying. And now I'm in this like really comfortable
- 17:44Speaker 2: place of peace, excitement. I think I understand better what
- 17:48Speaker 2: we're getting, Like, I don't think I'll ever fully understand
- 17:51Speaker 2: what it's like to raise a little baby, but you
- 17:55Speaker 2: just kind of jump in. But now I'm kind of
- 17:56Speaker 2: in this season of I think I know better enough
- 17:59Speaker 2: to be like we can do this together. But you
- 18:03Speaker 2: have felt like you've just been excited the whole time.
- 18:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't get it.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Explain yourself, like how is this something like you're bringing
- 18:11Speaker 2: life into this world and yet like your peace of
- 18:14Speaker 2: mind and your joy and excitement has been consistent since
- 18:20Speaker 2: really the moment we started trying.
- 18:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm I'm gonna get tierry talking about it. But
- 18:27Speaker 3: like when I was little, when people asked what do
- 18:29Speaker 3: you want to be when you grew up? I always
- 18:31Speaker 3: said I wanted to be a mom. It was a
- 18:33Speaker 3: princess mom to be specific. Yeah, I want to be
- 18:36Speaker 3: a princess mommy up until like seventh grade, like when
- 18:40Speaker 3: it was like way inappropriate for that to be what
- 18:43Speaker 3: you want to be when you grew up. But like
- 18:45Speaker 3: I grew up nannying, i grew up babysitting. I've had cousins,
- 18:49Speaker 3: and I've just always had this like I want to
- 18:52Speaker 3: be a mom. And then when you and I got married,
- 18:55Speaker 3: I was like, Okay, I'm not ready to be a
- 18:57Speaker 3: mom yet, Like I want to really enjoy this time
- 18:59Speaker 3: just me and you. I like felt almost selfish with
- 19:02Speaker 3: my time with you because we dated long distance and
- 19:05Speaker 3: you and I have so much fun together just the
- 19:06Speaker 3: two of us. That then I went through a season
- 19:08Speaker 3: where I was like and we kind of talked about it,
- 19:10Speaker 3: like maybe we're not like kid people, like maybe we
- 19:13Speaker 3: don't do it.
- 19:14Speaker 2: But then that did not wast long.
- 19:17Speaker 3: No, it lasted for about a month, but we did
- 19:19Speaker 3: talk about it.
- 19:20Speaker 2: We did.
- 19:21Speaker 3: But then I don't know, something like in the last
- 19:25Speaker 3: year or whenever, we were like, this could be a
- 19:28Speaker 3: good time for us to start to think about a baby,
- 19:30Speaker 3: it was like go time, like so exciting. And then
- 19:36Speaker 3: because I've I've not taken the best care of my
- 19:39Speaker 3: body in the past. I've been really open about having
- 19:41Speaker 3: eating disorders, and I was a long distance runner, and
- 19:46Speaker 3: I've I thought I would never be able to carry
- 19:48Speaker 3: my own baby. And we talked about that too, even
- 19:51Speaker 3: before we got married, like I was getting testing done
- 19:53Speaker 3: to make sure like it was even a possibility, and
- 19:57Speaker 3: every doctor told me it was a possibility. But then
- 20:00Speaker 3: we were having a hard time. I was just kind
- 20:01Speaker 3: of like, what if this doesn't happen for me? And
- 20:04Speaker 3: it's it really is like my heart's desire. Since I
- 20:07Speaker 3: was an itty bitty girl, I used to carry my
- 20:10Speaker 3: baby dolls around. My mom would carry my little brother,
- 20:12Speaker 3: like I've had that instinct. So then when I found
- 20:16Speaker 3: out that we were like when I saw the positive
- 20:18Speaker 3: pregnancy test, it was like I just never thought that
- 20:22Speaker 3: was gonna happen for me, and the fact that it
- 20:25Speaker 3: has is just like I'm sorry, you can It's I've
- 20:31Speaker 3: never been this happy, Like I've never been so like
- 20:33Speaker 3: proud of my body and just even though it's changing
- 20:38Speaker 3: and it's sometimes uncomfortable, like I'm so excited for all
- 20:42Speaker 3: the changes and I'm so excited that I have this
- 20:44Speaker 3: baby growing because I never thought that i'd be able
- 20:47Speaker 3: to so even when it's hard, and even when I
- 20:51Speaker 3: was so sick, I was just so like excited. And
- 20:57Speaker 3: I've just been so grateful this whole time. But yeah,
- 21:01Speaker 3: I've like I've genuinely I don't think i've been this
- 21:04Speaker 3: happy since like you and I got engaged and married,
- 21:07Speaker 3: Like I have just had so much, I know, but
- 21:13Speaker 3: I mean those are like these are Those are like
- 21:15Speaker 3: the two biggest moments of joy I've had. So I
- 21:19Speaker 3: can't even imagine meeting her. I'm just like, I'm so
- 21:23Speaker 3: thankful that I'm able to have a baby. I never
- 21:25Speaker 3: thought i'd be able to, So I just feel really
- 21:28Speaker 3: excited and like so grateful.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Yeah, you should be proud of yourself too, Like I
- 21:34Speaker 2: don't know how to I don't even know how to
- 21:35Speaker 2: say it. I don't know if I ever have. But
- 21:37Speaker 2: it is interesting with your your past and just having
- 21:43Speaker 2: you know, this long distance running career and having to
- 21:47Speaker 2: keep your body in what you imagine and what people
- 21:49Speaker 2: were kind of telling you in this like really like
- 21:52Speaker 2: lean overly like athletic state, and then the repercussions from
- 21:57Speaker 2: that for you emotionally, mentally, physically, and now for like
- 22:03Speaker 2: your biggest fear out of that like kind of the
- 22:05Speaker 2: unknown of Yeah, but what else has this done to
- 22:07Speaker 2: my body? And for you now to be pregnant is
- 22:11Speaker 2: like a really big thing to celebrate and just hopefully
- 22:15Speaker 2: like some like peace.
- 22:17Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it has given me so much peace, and
- 22:21Speaker 3: like just I just feel like this baby is such
- 22:24Speaker 3: a sign of like redemption. Like there's there's nothing that
- 22:28Speaker 3: like I can do that can't be undone almost even
- 22:33Speaker 3: that's probably an over generalization and not true, but I.
- 22:35Speaker 2: Really do feel that way right now in this season,
- 22:38Speaker 2: in this I think it's very fair for you to
- 22:39Speaker 2: feel that way. Yeah.
- 22:41Speaker 3: Yeah, so I don't know. I'm just I'm so excited
- 22:44Speaker 3: and thankful.
- 22:47Speaker 2: It is a big deal. Jessica's pregnant and Ben.
- 22:51Speaker 3: Has been so sweet in this pregnancy. He's like dropped
- 22:53Speaker 3: everything to go get frozen yogurt with me. He's made
- 22:56Speaker 3: me what I want for dinner, which.
- 22:58Speaker 2: Is which is wild. Like the dinner stuff doesn't make
- 23:02Speaker 2: any sense. I mean sometimes it's mac and cheese with
- 23:05Speaker 2: ice cream, yeah.
- 23:06Speaker 3: Or like all I want is like plain buttered pasta,
- 23:09Speaker 3: Like that's like sounds so good to me all the time.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Yeah, it's been weird.
- 23:13Speaker 3: Land no vegetables.
- 23:15Speaker 2: We've had fun with it though, and we're having a
- 23:17Speaker 2: great time. We're very excited to be parents. We're ready prepared.
- 23:22Speaker 2: Final kind of like rapid fire, honey questions for you
- 23:25Speaker 2: just to kind of answer anything that was written in
- 23:27Speaker 2: so we can kind of go through it. Do we
- 23:29Speaker 2: have any names picked out? You don't have to share
- 23:30Speaker 2: them because I was told by wells Adams to not
- 23:34Speaker 2: share the baby names because it opens you up for
- 23:37Speaker 2: more feedback than what you really want.
- 23:39Speaker 3: I've heard that too, so we're not going to share them.
- 23:41Speaker 3: But we do have a top three list that is
- 23:44Speaker 3: open to change. But we feel pretty good about our
- 23:46Speaker 3: top three.
- 23:48Speaker 2: How did we come up with the baby announcement idea?
- 23:51Speaker 3: I asked you how you wanted to announce the baby,
- 23:53Speaker 3: and you said you wanted a video of our love story,
- 23:55Speaker 3: so we made one.
- 23:58Speaker 2: That video wrecked me too. I just I feel like
- 24:01Speaker 2: I'm holding on by a thread any moment I am libel,
- 24:07Speaker 2: Like right now, I'm liable to break down the nursery.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Do you want to share kind of the theme of
- 24:13Speaker 2: the nursery? I kind of think I did last week,
- 24:17Speaker 2: maybe more than I expected to. So do you want
- 24:19Speaker 2: to share the theme and why it's the theme.
- 24:22Speaker 3: We're doing a very subtle, not like over the top,
- 24:25Speaker 3: Winnie the Pooh theme, So we're gonna have some little
- 24:28Speaker 3: Winnie the Pooh elements because Ben and I love Winnie
- 24:32Speaker 3: the Pooh. It was both of our favorites growing up,
- 24:34Speaker 3: and we had some of our best friends read one
- 24:37Speaker 3: of the Pooh quotes at our wedding, like it's just
- 24:39Speaker 3: been a big part of our love story randomly. So
- 24:42Speaker 3: it's gonna have some little Winnie the Pooh elements. And
- 24:44Speaker 3: then Ben wants to paint the walls pink, which just
- 24:47Speaker 3: melted me.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Goodness, I do want to paint them pink?
- 24:52Speaker 3: Is so sweet.
- 24:53Speaker 2: Yeah, we're gonna paint them pink. It's gonna be really
- 24:55Speaker 2: pretty goodness. All right, final question for you, Han, what
- 25:03Speaker 2: is the thing you're most excited to teach your new
- 25:08Speaker 2: baby girl?
- 25:09Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, like deeper surface level, whatever you want, Like,
- 25:14Speaker 3: what's the first thing that comes to mind? I really
- 25:17Speaker 3: can't wait to watch Disney movies with you.
- 25:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I thought that would be.
- 25:19Speaker 3: I can't wait to like show her all the princess stuff.
- 25:22Speaker 2: You've been waiting for an excuse to watch Disney movies
- 25:25Speaker 2: for a long time.
- 25:26Speaker 3: You might have to rewatch before to make sure, like
- 25:28Speaker 3: they're appropriate.
- 25:29Speaker 2: I think anything's appropriate.
- 25:32Speaker 1: For me.
- 25:32Speaker 2: I think I think what Like when it's the question
- 25:36Speaker 2: of what I want to tea what I'm my most
- 25:38Speaker 2: excited teacher? I think I'm really excited just show her
- 25:42Speaker 2: what family she's entering into, Like we have great parents,
- 25:47Speaker 2: incredible siblings, really great like aunts and uncles and grandparents
- 25:54Speaker 2: and just like we got a really good thing going
- 25:59Speaker 2: and I feel very grateful for that. Like every night
- 26:01Speaker 2: when I go to bed, I pray that I'm thankful
- 26:03Speaker 2: for you and our dog and a baby girl and
- 26:06Speaker 2: then this amazing family and now everybody gets that, and
- 26:11Speaker 2: so I'm excited for her to meet them.
- 26:13Speaker 3: Yeah. I've said this to so many, like all the
- 26:16Speaker 3: people that are shared in our joy, our friends, our family,
- 26:19Speaker 3: everybody like this baby. I just I can't imagine someone
- 26:23Speaker 3: coming to the world more love than our daughter.
- 26:25Speaker 2: Goodness are we have a full closet already.
- 26:28Speaker 3: We've got a hand me down.
- 26:29Speaker 2: I've asked people not to give us stuff.
- 26:32Speaker 3: Oh goodness, She's got a lot of hand me downs, but.
- 26:36Speaker 2: Not all hand me down.
- 26:37Speaker 3: And a lot of people out lover her.
- 26:40Speaker 2: Goodness. We'll keep you updated as we go. We want
- 26:43Speaker 2: to do this with almost famous listeners because we haven't
- 26:45Speaker 2: done an interview yet. You've kind of kept it close
- 26:47Speaker 2: to our chest, you know. But we're very excited. We're
- 26:52Speaker 2: very ready, though, as ready as you can be. Wailing
- 26:56Speaker 2: gonna be great. He's already sleeping on top of Jess
- 26:58Speaker 2: at night literally like head on the belly. I think
- 27:04Speaker 2: he's gonna rock and roll this thing in the best
- 27:06Speaker 2: of ways. He's going to be such a stud. So
- 27:09Speaker 2: everybody's really ready, everybody's really prepared. We're excited. Uh, but
- 27:13Speaker 2: we'll keep you updated as big things happen. A way
- 27:16Speaker 2: to go, you have a long ways to go. My
- 27:20Speaker 2: life hasn't changed that much, so until next time, I've
- 27:24Speaker 2: been Ben Jess. We'll share the name of the baby
- 27:27Speaker 2: girl who's with us as well when she's born.
