- 0:00Speaker 1: Come on. Uh huh, I sure will. Good morning everybody
- 0:07Speaker 1: you are listening to the voice, Come on, dig me now.
- 0:10Speaker 1: One and only Steve Harvey got a radio show. Man o,
- 0:16Speaker 1: man o man. I thank God for it. I thank
- 0:19Speaker 1: God for all He's done for me, for all the
- 0:23Speaker 1: little things that I oftentimes failed to thank him for
- 0:27Speaker 1: that I take for granted for you know, I was.
- 0:33Speaker 1: I was talking the other day to a buddy of mine.
- 0:37Speaker 1: We had gotten to this conversation about God and and
- 0:42Speaker 1: and in the conversation we had narrowed it down and
- 0:45Speaker 1: we were talking about changing the way we are as people.
- 0:49Speaker 1: You know that everybody has to change. You know, nothing
- 0:53Speaker 1: stays the same. Everybody changes, and a lot of these
- 0:58Speaker 1: changes can be for the good good and a lot
- 1:00Speaker 1: of them are just They just come with time, you know.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Sometimes it's aging that changes us. But no matter how
- 1:07Speaker 1: old you get, you still have the ability to improve
- 1:13Speaker 1: as a person. You may not have the foot speed
- 1:16Speaker 1: you used to have. You may not be as agile
- 1:20Speaker 1: as you used to be. Your energy level may not
- 1:25Speaker 1: be what it used to be. Your desire to do
- 1:30Speaker 1: some of the things that you used to do may
- 1:32Speaker 1: be gone. The thing that doesn't have to change and
- 1:40Speaker 1: will not change is you you have the ability to
- 1:45Speaker 1: continue to grow as a person, even when far the
- 1:52Speaker 1: time and nature has taken its course. We were talking
- 1:58Speaker 1: about everybody can change and everybody has the right to
- 2:08Speaker 1: reinvent themselves as they get older, and I equated it
- 2:14Speaker 1: to jumping out of an airplane. You know, there are
- 2:18Speaker 1: some people man who get to a certain point in
- 2:20Speaker 1: their life and they and they jump from the airplane.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Is now almost a stunt of some kind. It's almost
- 2:30Speaker 1: like they lifed and got out of control. You ever
- 2:32Speaker 1: seen somebody jump out an airplane and the parachute don't open,
- 2:36Speaker 1: and they life start and it seems like they start
- 2:39Speaker 1: spinning and tumbling and they can't get it together. And
- 2:42Speaker 1: I've seen some mid air rescues before. But then there
- 2:45Speaker 1: are times when you know when it hasn't worked. You know,
- 2:48Speaker 1: you jump out that airplane and at first it's fun.
- 2:54Speaker 1: I've never scot dived before, but I would imagine when
- 2:57Speaker 1: you first jump out of an airplane that they people
- 3:00Speaker 1: describe it as a sense of being free, and it's
- 3:05Speaker 1: exhilarating when you first jump out the plane. But if
- 3:09Speaker 1: you pull that cord and nothing happens, it never happened
- 3:13Speaker 1: to me, But I can only imagine the panic that's
- 3:17Speaker 1: got to set in because no matter how fun it
- 3:21Speaker 1: was a moment ago, the flying over to one another,
- 3:25Speaker 1: the holding hands in the air, the breeze, the descent,
- 3:31Speaker 1: the feeling of all of a sudden, if you reach
- 3:34Speaker 1: for that cord and it's not there, you're suddenly spinning
- 3:38Speaker 1: out of control. And that's what happens in a lot
- 3:41Speaker 1: of people's lives. When you first start your life, you
- 3:45Speaker 1: jump out the plane, you free you young, you ain't
- 3:47Speaker 1: got nothing to worry about it. But then you get
- 3:49Speaker 1: to a certain point in your life when you go, okay,
- 3:52Speaker 1: I'm gonna pull the cord now. And pulling the cord
- 3:56Speaker 1: is an important thing because here's the analogy my friend
- 4:01Speaker 1: gave me. He said, man, use your mind like a parachute.
- 4:07Speaker 1: It works better when it's open. Well, see what happens
- 4:12Speaker 1: with a lot of people is they in life. They
- 4:15Speaker 1: jump out the plane and they having this free fall,
- 4:22Speaker 1: and it's fun for now. But they get to a
- 4:25Speaker 1: certain point in their life where they got themself in
- 4:27Speaker 1: a situation, or they've had a little bit too much fun,
- 4:30Speaker 1: a little bit too long, or you know, they wasn't
- 4:33Speaker 1: open to nothing, and they just did what they wanted
- 4:36Speaker 1: to do, or they started getting involved with drugs or
- 4:39Speaker 1: drinking or started running with the wrong people. See you
- 4:42Speaker 1: jump out the plane. At first you're free falling this
- 4:44Speaker 1: fun but then after a minute, man, something happens and
- 4:47Speaker 1: they realize whoa and they reach for their cord and
- 4:50Speaker 1: the chord don't work. Well. Now you're in the panic
- 4:52Speaker 1: stricken situation. And my suggesting that what I've learned from
- 4:56Speaker 1: the analogy that my friends shared with me is that
- 4:59Speaker 1: we all the sooner we can open our mind to God,
- 5:03Speaker 1: the sooner we could develop that relationship with him. It's
- 5:08Speaker 1: like pulling the chord and opening a parachute. If you
- 5:12Speaker 1: open up your mind to God, God is like a parachute.
- 5:18Speaker 1: You know. God can slow your descent. God can turn
- 5:22Speaker 1: this out of control freefall into a nice ride for you.
- 5:28Speaker 1: See that's what happened to me. I was spinning out
- 5:33Speaker 1: of control. I had gotten myself into a point. Man,
- 5:37Speaker 1: Why I wasn't doing real good. Oh y'all would look
- 5:41Speaker 1: at me and think, man, stevee man, Now I wasn't
- 5:46Speaker 1: doing real good. I had spun out of control. I
- 5:50Speaker 1: was in a free fall, and I reached for the chord,
- 5:54Speaker 1: but I was so far away the chord didn't open.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Then I went to him and I pulled a cord.
- 6:00Speaker 1: When I went to God, I pulled the cord and open,
- 6:04Speaker 1: and he slowed my descent. And this is what I
- 6:08Speaker 1: just believe. I don't believe now that I age as
- 6:11Speaker 1: fast as I was aging, because I got that parachute open. Now,
- 6:15Speaker 1: you know, I take better care of myself, eating, I
- 6:17Speaker 1: work out more. Now you know I'm not out of control.
- 6:21Speaker 1: I have a direction now that win. Then got up
- 6:25Speaker 1: under that parachute a little bit, you know, and now
- 6:28Speaker 1: I'm going You know I'm still getting older, you know so,
- 6:32Speaker 1: but the descent is so slow. Now I'm able to
- 6:36Speaker 1: enjoy the ride. I'm guiding my parachute over. Sometimes we
- 6:40Speaker 1: go over to to a vacation spot over here, we
- 6:43Speaker 1: float back over to it. But you know, I'm still
- 6:45Speaker 1: getting old. I'm still going down. But the descent, because
- 6:50Speaker 1: I've opened my mind to God, the parachute has slowed
- 6:55Speaker 1: my descent. And now I'm rocking back and forth. But
- 6:59Speaker 1: I ain't spending out of control no more. You know,
- 7:01Speaker 1: I'm able to enjoy the view. Now you know, when
- 7:05Speaker 1: you jump out that plane and you pull that cord
- 7:08Speaker 1: and it don't work, you ain't looking at the view
- 7:10Speaker 1: no more. You're thinking of only one thing. How can
- 7:12Speaker 1: I slow this down? Well, now I'm able to enjoy
- 7:15Speaker 1: the view. I'm able to see all the beautiful things
- 7:18Speaker 1: on the horizon that God has for me. I'm able
- 7:22Speaker 1: to see all the beautiful things around me that He's
- 7:25Speaker 1: provided for me over these years because I've slowed my descent.
- 7:29Speaker 1: I use my mind like a parachute. It works better
- 7:34Speaker 1: when it's open. Open your mind to God and so
- 7:38Speaker 1: you can see the view, so you can slow the descent,
- 7:41Speaker 1: so you can stop the out of control free fall
- 7:44Speaker 1: that you've been on. That you can get your life
- 7:47Speaker 1: together and see everything out on the horizon that God
- 7:50Speaker 1: has for you. You know, it turned out to be
- 7:52Speaker 1: a very true statement. Your mind, if you use it
- 7:55Speaker 1: like a parachute, it works better when it's open. Y'all here,
- 8:00Speaker 1: it's the Steve Harvey Morning Show.
