- 0:04Speaker 1: We are live at the American Century Championships in Lake Tahoe.
- 0:07Speaker 2: It's the same day every single day.
- 0:08Speaker 1: We're gonna have Adam Thielin and Sean McDonough on later
- 0:11Speaker 1: this hour.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Taylor, how you feeling here?
- 0:14Speaker 1: We've hit hump day here in Lake Tahoe.
- 0:17Speaker 3: I just love Lake Taha.
- 0:19Speaker 2: I know you do.
- 0:20Speaker 4: It just brings a smile to my face. Right now,
- 0:23Speaker 4: I'm watching Ryan Fitzpatrick on a driving range.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Yes, I would love to watch you go get Ryan
- 0:27Speaker 1: Fitzpatrick and get him on this show.
- 0:29Speaker 2: That's what I would like you to do.
- 0:31Speaker 4: And right now Tahoe, Yeah, is just a who's who?
- 0:35Speaker 4: But I've noticed a certain who not out here this year.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Who's that?
- 0:39Speaker 3: Rabel?
- 0:39Speaker 1: Yeah, he's not here, Arnade, Robert Sala's here. It's funny
- 0:47Speaker 1: like Joe Buck is not here. So Sean McDonough who's
- 0:49Speaker 1: going to join us later this hour? Broadcaster comes out,
- 0:52Speaker 1: Broadcaster goes in. NFL head coach comes out, NFL coach
- 0:55Speaker 1: goes in.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Rabel out, salah In. How about that?
- 0:59Speaker 4: There was a video I saw on social media of
- 1:02Speaker 4: Mike Rabel and his wife heading to the Taylor Swift
- 1:05Speaker 4: Travis Kelsey wedding at Madison Square Garden. Yeah in the
- 1:09Speaker 4: videos too. Yeah, they're getting into the back of this
- 1:11Speaker 4: suv driving them. He gets in first, he doesn't consider
- 1:14Speaker 4: holding the door for her. It felt like a h
- 1:17Speaker 4: An over two moment for Rabel in the Comeback Tour.
- 1:20Speaker 4: I think, if you're Mike Rabel and you're watching the
- 1:23Speaker 4: tape back today, you wish he had those back.
- 1:25Speaker 2: So what was the first one?
- 1:26Speaker 1: Him looking through an airport shop trying to buy his
- 1:28Speaker 1: wife a gift?
- 1:29Speaker 2: Is that what was the first one? No?
- 1:31Speaker 4: The over two was in the same video of the
- 1:33Speaker 4: Kelsey Swift wedding. Yeah, he sprints into the car first
- 1:37Speaker 4: and he doesn't hold the door.
- 1:38Speaker 3: That's the over one over two.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Oh got it? Okay, we live and we learn. Isn't
- 1:45Speaker 1: he in couple's rehab?
- 1:47Speaker 3: I mean, by all accounts, it seems like it's going well.
- 1:50Speaker 1: It seems like he's learned nothing. It's interesting. So anyway,
- 1:54Speaker 1: what is going on here? We're gonna have Adam Thielen,
- 1:57Speaker 1: and we're gonna have Sean McDonough at our friends, who's
- 1:59Speaker 1: playing in his first American Century Championship this week. Some
- 2:03Speaker 1: my guesses he'll be a little bit nervous, a little
- 2:05Speaker 1: bit overwhelmed. I don't care how much you've done in
- 2:08Speaker 1: your career. I don't care how many big games you call.
- 2:10Speaker 1: When you get here and have to hit golf balls
- 2:12Speaker 1: in front of a live audience with your peers around,
- 2:15Speaker 1: and you're playing with three people who paid to play
- 2:17Speaker 1: with you, you get nervous. And so I'm interested to see
- 2:20Speaker 1: how Sean mcdonney is feeling here before his first round.
- 2:24Speaker 1: What is happening here because we're in Lake Tahoe and
- 2:26Speaker 1: I haven't been paying attention because everything's been about this,
- 2:29Speaker 1: and it's been about the USA losing in the World Cup.
- 2:33Speaker 2: What is the latest tier?
- 2:34Speaker 1: With Lebron, James, Rich Paul, their whiteboard, everything they're doing.
- 2:38Speaker 4: Shams is saying that talking to people around the league,
- 2:41Speaker 4: executives around the league, he believes there's a hierarchy of
- 2:44Speaker 4: a top three. Okay, it's Miami, right, it's Cleveland, yes,
- 2:48Speaker 4: and it's the seventy six ers okay.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Wow.
- 2:51Speaker 4: And Chalms's report yesterday was that Lebron is seriously considering
- 2:56Speaker 4: the Philadelphia seventy years.
- 2:57Speaker 2: So who called it? Taylor?
- 2:59Speaker 1: I mean this second, the second they got Jalen Brown
- 3:02Speaker 1: I told you Lebron James. So here's why I think
- 3:05Speaker 1: this is such a good play for Lebron James. He's
- 3:08Speaker 1: the guy that can go into Philadelphia, right and he's
- 3:12Speaker 1: the guy that can help bring together Jalen Brown, Joe
- 3:16Speaker 1: l Embiid, Maxi, Edgecomb Man. That's a good starting five
- 3:20Speaker 1: when you would sert Lebron into it. But he's the
- 3:22Speaker 1: blue guy, you know what I'm saying, Like, if he's
- 3:25Speaker 1: the guy that could trust the process, and if the
- 3:27Speaker 1: process been you know, all the way till twenty to
- 3:30Speaker 1: twenty six, we're gonna get Lebron James on the league
- 3:32Speaker 1: minimum and that's the end of the process. Lebron James
- 3:36Speaker 1: is that's a good way to finish it is in
- 3:38Speaker 1: that city, for that team and that market, to help
- 3:40Speaker 1: them get over the hump.
- 3:42Speaker 2: That would be a good way for him to finish.
- 3:43Speaker 4: Lebron on social media yesterday was bashing the anonymous sources
- 3:48Speaker 4: that were criticizing Jalen Brown and saying, basically, put a
- 3:51Speaker 4: name on it. If you're gonna say something like Jalen
- 3:54Speaker 4: Brown is the seventh best player on a team, put
- 3:56Speaker 4: a name on it. And if I'm Lebron James. I
- 3:59Speaker 4: don't look at the he's anonymous NBA sources burying Jalen
- 4:02Speaker 4: Brown and think I should stay away. I'd be thinking
- 4:05Speaker 4: keep burying him. I'd be thinking the exact opposite, where
- 4:08Speaker 4: the league is now trying to suddenly convince us that
- 4:11Speaker 4: Jalen Brown, who just won a championship less than two
- 4:15Speaker 4: years ago, is somehow the seventh best player on the team. Like,
- 4:19Speaker 4: I'm stuck on that because it's such a ridiculous narrative. Yes,
- 4:23Speaker 4: that has now been built with Jalen Brown.
- 4:25Speaker 2: So I don't think the league is trying to sell
- 4:27Speaker 2: you on that.
- 4:27Speaker 1: I think there is one NBA analytic guy who's trying
- 4:30Speaker 1: to sell everyone on that that he was the sixth
- 4:32Speaker 1: or seventh best player on the Celtics.
- 4:33Speaker 2: And I would tell that guy to go to hell.
- 4:35Speaker 2: I mean, it's ridiculous.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Again, Finals MVP and was in the MVP conversation for
- 4:41Speaker 1: most of this year because his team was very good,
- 4:44Speaker 1: unexpectedly good without Jason Tatum, you know.
- 4:47Speaker 4: Yeah, And I think if you're a Lebron you look
- 4:50Speaker 4: at Philadelphia and you say, this guy is the guy
- 4:54Speaker 4: that everybody's saying is the problem right now, The guy
- 4:56Speaker 4: that got MVP votes this year, the guy that won
- 4:59Speaker 4: a final MVP. Your analytics are saying, because this is
- 5:03Speaker 4: not even just a one person things to because the
- 5:05Speaker 4: Portland Trailblazers were like, we don't need to make another
- 5:08Speaker 4: big move. We got Jahn Morant, right, what's the Blazer?
- 5:11Speaker 3: Which is right?
- 5:11Speaker 4: Yes, Like, like, if you're a Portland Trailblazer, you're in
- 5:15Speaker 4: no position to be turning down getting getting Jalen Brown.
- 5:19Speaker 4: But again, these these analytics departments are telling you Jalen
- 5:22Speaker 4: Brown is a negative player. If you're a Lebron, fine,
- 5:25Speaker 4: I'll sign there, I'll play with him. I'll prove you
- 5:27Speaker 4: guys all wrong.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Right, So for Lebron, this is great. It's such a
- 5:30Speaker 2: great thing. Right. He could be the guy that helps
- 5:32Speaker 2: him bed win a title.
- 5:34Speaker 1: He could be the guy that proves to everyone that
- 5:36Speaker 1: Jalen Brown isn't the sixth or seventh best player on
- 5:38Speaker 1: his own roster. He's a lot better than that. He's
- 5:41Speaker 1: one of the best players in the NBA. He can
- 5:43Speaker 1: kind of bring edgecomb along, right, he could teach him
- 5:46Speaker 1: showing the ropes. You know, Lebron loves doing that, and
- 5:49Speaker 1: he could show MAXI how to win. I mean, what
- 5:51Speaker 1: a spot for Lebron. He covers all the bases here.
- 5:54Speaker 1: It's amazing.
- 5:55Speaker 2: It's a grand Slam for Lebron James.
- 5:57Speaker 3: That stude.
- 5:58Speaker 4: The more you think about Philadelphia, the more it feels
- 6:01Speaker 4: like a gift has been put in front of Lebron James,
- 6:03Speaker 4: because every championship this late in his career is gonna
- 6:07Speaker 4: be about legacy. Yes, winning next to a player that
- 6:10Speaker 4: the basketball world is trying to diminish would make this
- 6:13Speaker 4: accomplishment even louder. Winning next to somebody like Joe Embiid
- 6:17Speaker 4: who has never made it to a conference finals, right,
- 6:19Speaker 4: it would be a massive accomplishment where it's like, not
- 6:22Speaker 4: only could Lebron win another title with this group, I
- 6:26Speaker 4: am winning with this island of misfits in Philadelphia.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Yes, imagine I mean seriously, like, imagine Lebron James winning
- 6:34Speaker 1: a title with those four guys.
- 6:37Speaker 2: In that city.
- 6:38Speaker 1: And I gotta be honest with you, Taylor, it's the
- 6:40Speaker 1: Celtics fault. The idea that the Celtics traded Jalen Brown
- 6:44Speaker 1: inside the division, inside the conference and made that roster
- 6:48Speaker 1: so appealing that Lebron James. It's one of his final
- 6:53Speaker 1: three teams, and I believe that Philadelphia is the favorite.
- 6:56Speaker 1: This is on the Celtics, and this is on Jason Tatum.
- 6:59Speaker 1: This is Jason Tatum for not stepping up and speaking up, saying, hey,
- 7:03Speaker 1: you know what, I could deal with Jaylen Brown. He's
- 7:05Speaker 1: a great player. He's not the sixth or seventh best
- 7:07Speaker 1: player on the team. He's one A or one B
- 7:10Speaker 1: on this team, and I want him around here. Jason
- 7:12Speaker 1: Tatum never did that. Jason Tatum wanted Jalen Brown out.
- 7:15Speaker 1: And now look what looks look at what has happened here.
- 7:18Speaker 1: I can't speak for some reason. He has made the Celtics,
- 7:22Speaker 1: have made the Sixers rosters so attractive by the addition
- 7:25Speaker 1: of Jalen Brown, that Lebron James.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Wants to end his career in Philadelphia. It's unbelievable. The
- 7:31Speaker 2: Celtics should be ashamed of themselves.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Brad Stevens, you should be ashamed of yourself.
- 7:37Speaker 4: If you're Lebron James and you're looking if this move
- 7:42Speaker 4: for you is about silencing the doubters, because Lebron James,
- 7:45Speaker 4: for as great a basketball player he is, yeah, he
- 7:48Speaker 4: has doubters. And I'm sitting next to one of them
- 7:50Speaker 4: right now?
- 7:50Speaker 2: Who I believe there's two.
- 7:54Speaker 4: Types of people in the world. People that admit that
- 7:57Speaker 4: Lebron James is the best basketball player ever and then
- 8:00Speaker 4: people that are just in denial with the actual truth.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Well, I'm not in denial, Okay, He's one of the
- 8:05Speaker 1: top five players I've ever seen play the game of basketball.
- 8:07Speaker 2: Michael's just better. That's it.
- 8:09Speaker 1: It's not denial. I'm acknowledging that Lebron is great. I'm
- 8:12Speaker 1: just saying that he's not the greatest.
- 8:13Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 8:14Speaker 4: You know, even saying he's in the top five is
- 8:17Speaker 4: borderline denial.
- 8:18Speaker 2: At this point, he should be number.
- 8:20Speaker 3: Two, Yes, exactly.
- 8:23Speaker 2: I mean that chick was pretty good.
- 8:24Speaker 4: At the bare minimum. I think you could slot him
- 8:27Speaker 4: number two. You're the Skip Bayless of the world. Is like,
- 8:29Speaker 4: maybe Lebron James is in my top ten, But if
- 8:32Speaker 4: you're a Lebron, what move silences the doubters more? Winning
- 8:36Speaker 4: with Jalen Brown and this group in Philadelphia or going
- 8:40Speaker 4: to Cleveland and winning with James Harden?
- 8:42Speaker 2: Wow? Wow?
- 8:44Speaker 1: Could he make James Harden a champion? Or can he
- 8:47Speaker 1: make Joel EMBII a champion? Jalen Brown's already a champion.
- 8:53Speaker 1: It's unbelievable. Man, I gotta think it's James Harden, right.
- 9:00Speaker 4: But it's hard to see James Harden in Lebron's plans
- 9:03Speaker 4: of going back to Cleveland.
- 9:04Speaker 1: But James Harden's been to a Western Conference final with Houston.
- 9:09Speaker 1: I mean, Joel Embiid's never even been to the conference final. Now,
- 9:12Speaker 1: imagine Lebron comes in and says, hey, we're going to
- 9:14Speaker 1: bypass that conference final thing. I'm taking us all the
- 9:17Speaker 1: way to the finals, right and then maybe winning a championship.
- 9:21Speaker 1: I mean, that's pretty good. That's a pretty good way
- 9:23Speaker 1: to end it. So the Knicks are out, huh, I mean.
- 9:26Speaker 4: It seems like it seems very unlikely at this point
- 9:29Speaker 4: that the Knicks are going to be involved in this.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Yeah, what do you make of him saying?
- 9:33Speaker 1: It was Rich Paul who said if the Knicks had
- 9:35Speaker 1: it won a championship a year ago, Lebron would be
- 9:37Speaker 1: headed towards the New York Knicks.
- 9:39Speaker 4: It's the easiest thing as well, it's the easiest thing
- 9:43Speaker 4: in the world to say if Jessica Alba would consider
- 9:46Speaker 4: marrying me, I would consider marrying That's the level of ridiculous.
- 9:51Speaker 4: It is like something that is never going to happen,
- 9:53Speaker 4: something that has no consequences of saying it, it's going
- 9:56Speaker 4: to happen.
- 9:56Speaker 3: Yes, that's exactly what Rich Paul did there.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Hey, I was going to go there and help you
- 9:59Speaker 1: guys w the title, but you won't one without me.
- 10:03Speaker 1: He's got to go somewhere where he hasn't won a
- 10:05Speaker 1: title yet, and to go to Cleveland.
- 10:06Speaker 2: I understand. It's a great story.
- 10:08Speaker 1: I think Cleveland was probably the destination until the Celtics
- 10:13Speaker 1: had one of the worst trades in NBA history by
- 10:15Speaker 1: trading Jalen Brown.
- 10:16Speaker 2: I don't mind that they traded him.
- 10:17Speaker 1: To trade him to Philadelphia, a team that just knocked
- 10:20Speaker 1: you out of the playoffs without Jalen Brown is ludicrous.
- 10:24Speaker 4: One of my favorite parts of the Cleveland aspect of
- 10:26Speaker 4: all of this, Donovan Mitchell said he'd embrace Lebron James
- 10:31Speaker 4: joining the Cleveland Cavaliers.
- 10:33Speaker 2: That's nice. First of all, it's not your decision.
- 10:36Speaker 3: Due guys, what doubt the present to thank you.
- 10:39Speaker 4: How courageous of Donovan Mitchell to come out and say
- 10:42Speaker 4: he'd embrace playing with Lebron James.
- 10:45Speaker 1: You don't choose to play with Lebron James. Donovan Mitchell,
- 10:48Speaker 1: Lebron James chooses to play with you, I mean.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Also, remember who you are, Donovan Mitchell.
- 10:54Speaker 4: Okay, Also you'll play with one of the best players
- 10:57Speaker 4: of all time. Right, nice, returning to his hometown, own
- 11:00Speaker 4: team to finish his storybook career. Donovan Mitchell, you just
- 11:04Speaker 4: signed a four year, two hundred and seventy three million
- 11:08Speaker 4: dollar max extension. Yeah for that kind of money. Yes,
- 11:11Speaker 4: you should be embracing anybody that the front office tells
- 11:14Speaker 4: you you're gonna play with. Yeah, if they tell you
- 11:16Speaker 4: Paul from Roe W Seat five, just say yes, is
- 11:20Speaker 4: your new starting powerful.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Thank you sir.
- 11:21Speaker 5: You look at him and you say, can't wait. We'll
- 11:23Speaker 5: find a way to make this work. But he'll take
- 11:26Speaker 5: Lebron on the mini of them. How courageous? How nice
- 11:28Speaker 5: of Donovan Mitchell. It's ridiculous, Like what is he saying?
- 11:37Speaker 4: Like, next thing, he's gonna come out and say, yeah,
- 11:40Speaker 4: playing with Lebron James like that?
- 11:42Speaker 3: That would be an honor for me.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Yes, Hey, if they can go out and get h
- 11:48Speaker 1: I don't know, pick a name. I'd be happy to play.
- 11:51Speaker 3: With Anthony Edwards.
- 11:52Speaker 4: I'd consider playing with Anthony Edwards.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Donovan Mitchell, you got a max deal? Huh.
- 11:58Speaker 3: To seventy three is a waste of.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Two hundred and seventy three million dollars by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
- 12:04Speaker 2: They should also be ashamed of themselves.
- 12:06Speaker 1: We have about eight to ten minutes here with a
- 12:08Speaker 1: great show on McDonough because he has to be in
- 12:10Speaker 1: a golf cart at seven point thirty in the morning
- 12:13Speaker 1: Pacific time.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Are you ready for this show?
- 12:14Speaker 6: I cannot say hello, as you know, in eight to
- 12:16Speaker 6: ten minutes, so this is going to be difficult.
- 12:19Speaker 2: I hope I'm ready. Yeah, you know.
- 12:21Speaker 6: I hit some balls. I played nine holes of practice yesterday. Yes,
- 12:25Speaker 6: it was in the physio tent this morning for a
- 12:28Speaker 6: half hour with my aching back.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Yes, and my back started hurt me.
- 12:32Speaker 6: I heard it last summer and then it was fine,
- 12:34Speaker 6: and then last week it started hurt, like, oh please.
- 12:36Speaker 2: Not now, you know, one week away from Taho. So yeah,
- 12:40Speaker 2: we're ready. I mean, don't bet on me. We did
- 12:44Speaker 2: it just no.
- 12:45Speaker 6: I heard your bet on Billis though, which is also
- 12:47Speaker 6: equally a waste of time and money.
- 12:49Speaker 1: So I went up the Billis and Dwight FREENI. This
- 12:51Speaker 1: morning I played golf with Dwight FREENI. I know how
- 12:53Speaker 1: good Freenie is. I said, I put a flyer on
- 12:55Speaker 1: your Billis. He said, light your money on fire. Then
- 12:57Speaker 1: I went to Freanie, said I put a flyer on
- 12:59Speaker 1: your Franie. He said, light your money on fire.
- 13:01Speaker 6: Yes, yeah, well don't save your money. Don't do that
- 13:03Speaker 6: with me. I'm just out here. My goal is to
- 13:05Speaker 6: beat people like Billis. You have my buddies here who
- 13:08Speaker 6: I know were of similar skill level. Yes, compatible Jay's
- 13:12Speaker 6: handicaps a little bit better than mine. But the course
- 13:15Speaker 6: is hard, right you played play nine holes yesterday. I
- 13:18Speaker 6: was very surprised by how hard it was. It and
- 13:21Speaker 6: it doesn't at least the front nine. You know, it
- 13:24Speaker 6: seemed to me to favor a left to right ball flight,
- 13:27Speaker 6: and unfortunately I hit the snorkel hooks, so I'm not
- 13:32Speaker 6: sure that's going to go well. A couple of times
- 13:34Speaker 6: I come on the tea like where am I supposed
- 13:35Speaker 6: to get this? But looking forward to seeing the whole
- 13:38Speaker 6: eighteen today. One of the bits of advice I've gotten
- 13:41Speaker 6: from some friends of mine who have played here in
- 13:43Speaker 6: the past is, you know, don't wear yourself out in
- 13:44Speaker 6: the days leading up to the tournament. Correct, Yes, get
- 13:47Speaker 6: out and see the course, but don't play eighteen every day.
- 13:49Speaker 6: And you know if you do that, it's five six
- 13:51Speaker 6: days in a row. So yes, yeah, nine yesterday, we'll
- 13:54Speaker 6: play the pro am today and probably nine more tomorrow
- 13:57Speaker 6: and let's go all right.
- 13:58Speaker 4: Showing as a first time or for the American Century Championship.
- 14:02Speaker 4: Have you put any thought into your karaoke night song?
- 14:05Speaker 6: Yes, I put a lot of thought into the fact
- 14:07Speaker 6: there won't be one.
- 14:10Speaker 2: What if I go up there with you? I think
- 14:13Speaker 2: that would be great. I've talked to a lot of
- 14:16Speaker 2: friends of mine about this. You know.
- 14:17Speaker 6: I think you need to get something right that gets
- 14:20Speaker 6: everybody fully engaged. I mean, you can't go up there
- 14:22Speaker 6: and be serious. You got to kind of sing a fun,
- 14:25Speaker 6: campy song and I hope people sing along with you.
- 14:29Speaker 2: But my goal, you know again, I.
- 14:31Speaker 6: Asked Taylor Twelman and Billis, who have been my advisors
- 14:34Speaker 6: for a lot of you know, what do you do?
- 14:35Speaker 2: What do you not doing? Do we have to do this?
- 14:38Speaker 6: And then I thought, you know, if eighty celebrities went
- 14:41Speaker 6: up there and saying karaoke song, we'd be there for
- 14:42Speaker 6: three days.
- 14:43Speaker 2: Obviously, it's not mandatory. So oh holand you know we'll
- 14:52Speaker 2: get you after work. Jay, we wanted more time with you. Yes,
- 14:56Speaker 2: they're going in reverse order celebrity. They're starting with me
- 14:59Speaker 2: number eighty.
- 15:00Speaker 1: They're going down at number one. Listen, a lot of
- 15:05Speaker 1: people come here. They want Steph Curry on the show.
- 15:07Speaker 1: I just want to sew mcdonead Jay Billis.
- 15:09Speaker 2: I just feel like a.
- 15:09Speaker 6: Co host as much as I've been on this show now,
- 15:12Speaker 6: like I should start paying you.
- 15:13Speaker 2: Yeah, that was sort of what I was driving at.
- 15:15Speaker 2: But then you have all the time in the world
- 15:18Speaker 2: for me, right, I would would I seem to already? Yes,
- 15:22Speaker 2: I have interrupted.
- 15:22Speaker 1: My rigorous preparation, but your back hurting, and I want
- 15:26Speaker 1: you to hurt your back.
- 15:27Speaker 2: I want you to be ready for Friday. Yeah, I
- 15:30Speaker 2: might be ready for Friday. And uh, you know, I
- 15:32Speaker 2: just want to be respectable and not hurt anybody or myself.
- 15:35Speaker 1: We had to twelve Men's annoying, right, because we had
- 15:38Speaker 1: him on yesterday. He's the guy who goes out there
- 15:39Speaker 1: and she's like one under and tells you he's only
- 15:42Speaker 1: played three times in the.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Last twelve months.
- 15:44Speaker 6: Right, It may or may not be true. He is
- 15:47Speaker 6: annoying in the fact that and he's one of my
- 15:49Speaker 6: dearest friends. We spent some time. He's got Chelsea and
- 15:52Speaker 6: they're girls here. We spent some time last night by
- 15:55Speaker 6: the little fire pit. That's rough duty, yes, and really
- 15:58Speaker 6: roughing it out here show to find anything that Taylor
- 16:01Speaker 6: isn't good, you know what I mean. He he's one
- 16:03Speaker 6: of the great American soccer players of all the time.
- 16:05Speaker 6: He's unbelievably great on TV, great husband, great fathers, plus golfer,
- 16:10Speaker 6: nice person, a good looking guy him.
- 16:13Speaker 2: I really know. I don't have no idea why.
- 16:15Speaker 6: I like him, but no, he's just a wonderful guy.
- 16:18Speaker 6: And you know, it was funny because I was watching
- 16:20Speaker 6: this last year, yeah, you know for and when you
- 16:22Speaker 6: watch this, so you think like, oh, how cool would
- 16:25Speaker 6: that be?
- 16:25Speaker 4: Right?
- 16:25Speaker 2: Yes? Right?
- 16:26Speaker 6: And then I'm so grateful to the American Century people
- 16:29Speaker 6: in the NBC folks for the invitation to be here.
- 16:31Speaker 6: But I was watching, I was I think I was
- 16:33Speaker 6: more nervous than Taylor. You know, when it's your buddy
- 16:35Speaker 6: out there and you want it for him so.
- 16:37Speaker 2: Bad, yes, and he wants, yes, he does. He's super competitive.
- 16:41Speaker 2: You know.
- 16:41Speaker 6: We played golf back home in Boston and he's competitive
- 16:45Speaker 6: no matter what the situation. But he's also just I
- 16:47Speaker 6: mean what you said is true. He is just the
- 16:51Speaker 6: nicest guy.
- 16:52Speaker 2: I mean he is.
- 16:53Speaker 1: He is great at life. Yes, yes, he has wonted
- 16:55Speaker 1: the game of life. Taylor has a quick question about scheduling.
- 16:58Speaker 1: I believe Sean College we'll get you out of here.
- 17:01Speaker 2: We yes.
- 17:02Speaker 4: I love college football, and if I could only pick
- 17:05Speaker 4: one game to go to this year in college football,
- 17:07Speaker 4: it would be lsu at Ole Miss.
- 17:09Speaker 3: I saw ABC got that game. Do you know if
- 17:12Speaker 3: you're going to be.
- 17:12Speaker 2: On that game?
- 17:13Speaker 6: I don't, but I don't even know my I have
- 17:15Speaker 6: a rough idea which I'm not supposed to disclose, of
- 17:17Speaker 6: our first two.
- 17:18Speaker 2: What week is that?
- 17:19Speaker 3: I believe three?
- 17:20Speaker 1: Okay, and I don't know if we're doing He knows
- 17:22Speaker 1: nothing past week two.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Right now, No even the first latives. So I don't know,
- 17:29Speaker 2: but they're likely to.
- 17:30Speaker 6: You know, our group is almost always in the SEC,
- 17:32Speaker 6: so I would think there's a decent chance if it's
- 17:35Speaker 6: not Chris and Kirk and that group, all right to.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Our word, we will get you out of here because
- 17:39Speaker 1: you're the best. We're a minute away. Well I'm not
- 17:41Speaker 1: paying you. Yeah, you know the payroll.
- 17:43Speaker 6: Yes, and they've made a player many times in the
- 17:46Speaker 6: carts at seven thirty first day.
- 17:48Speaker 3: I don't want to be that guy.
- 17:50Speaker 2: And I'm the reason. You're the reason.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Why is No, that's a terrible equation for you. Congratulations
- 17:55Speaker 1: on being invited out here.
- 17:56Speaker 2: Good luck to you. You're gonna have a blast man. Yeah,
- 17:58Speaker 2: it's great to see You'll look forward to some social
- 18:00Speaker 2: time too. Yes, I don't know how you do this.
- 18:03Speaker 2: God bless you by this. You mean me? Yeah, thank
- 18:05Speaker 2: you exactly what I were pointing right at me. Okay.
- 18:07Speaker 2: For the people who are watching the video, I'm sorry.
- 18:10Speaker 1: Yes, good luck today, thought and we appreciate the time home.
- 18:13Speaker 2: It's great to see you, it's all. It's great to
- 18:14Speaker 2: see him.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Our thanks to Adam Feeling and Sean McDonough for joining
- 18:17Speaker 1: us in our number one. It's a who's who out
- 18:20Speaker 1: here at Lake Tahoe the American Century Championship. We have
- 18:23Speaker 1: no idea who's going to come on next. We just
- 18:25Speaker 1: know that as we sit here, Ryan Fitzpatrick is somewhere
- 18:28Speaker 1: on the driving range. And Gary Sheffield again is the
- 18:30Speaker 1: coolest guy to show up in Lake ti He is.
- 18:33Speaker 2: He's the coolest guy. He listen.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Gary Sheffield will play golf when he's ready to play golf,
- 18:38Speaker 1: not when they tell him to tee off.
- 18:39Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying.
- 18:41Speaker 3: I love Gary Sheffield's back.
- 18:44Speaker 4: Gary sheffield batting stance is about as iconic a batting.
- 18:47Speaker 2: Stances could get intimidating.
- 18:49Speaker 4: Yes, it was in the prime of when I was
- 18:52Speaker 4: growing up with my baseball fandom. I feel like you
- 18:55Speaker 4: have to kind of incorporate that somehow in your golf
- 18:57Speaker 4: Just give just give me a couple of waggles and
- 19:00Speaker 4: bringing down. He does it with a cigar in his
- 19:02Speaker 4: mouth and his presence.
- 19:03Speaker 1: You know, when Gary Sheffield walks off the driving range,
- 19:07Speaker 1: everyone knows Gary Sheffield has walked on to the driving range.
- 19:10Speaker 2: He's amazing.
- 19:11Speaker 4: He's like Jim Lee Limb with the cigarettes, because in
- 19:13Speaker 4: Lake Tahoe you could almost guarantee that Gary Sheffield has
- 19:17Speaker 4: a cigar.
- 19:20Speaker 1: By the way, speaking of Gary Sheffield, it reminds me
- 19:22Speaker 1: of a story I saw this morning about the New
- 19:25Speaker 1: York Yankees. They have now had two consecutive games where
- 19:29Speaker 1: they struck out seventeen times.
- 19:31Speaker 4: Yeah, so it's happened eleven times in franchise history. It's
- 19:37Speaker 4: happened back to back nights now at this point, yes,
- 19:39Speaker 4: but they won one of them. Yeah, but this is
- 19:42Speaker 4: just my entire point, My entire thesis with this Yankee
- 19:46Speaker 4: team a thesis, Huh. They just strike out so much.
- 19:49Speaker 4: The offense is just lifeless. Michael kay yesterday on the
- 19:53Speaker 4: Michael Kaye Show said he heard from multiple people that
- 19:56Speaker 4: the Yankees asked Anthony Volpi to play some second base
- 19:58Speaker 4: in the miners, and Volpi said, oh, I'm a shortstop.
- 20:01Speaker 4: And then Michael k comes out today and he said,
- 20:02Speaker 4: I checked in further with those rumors.
- 20:04Speaker 3: There's no reports to it.
- 20:05Speaker 4: I think Michael kay got his marching orders from the
- 20:08Speaker 4: Yankees to kind of retract that statement, because Anthony Volpee,
- 20:12Speaker 4: you're in no position to be making demands of where
- 20:14Speaker 4: you're playing when you're batting under two forty.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Buddy, I mean a Rod was willing to play third base.
- 20:23Speaker 4: Yeah, and then now all of a sudden, Anthony Volpie
- 20:25Speaker 4: is too good. You can't spell Yankees without the K
- 20:29Speaker 4: A lot of keys.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Yes, but again, they won one of those two games
- 20:32Speaker 1: against the Rays, but strike he got seventeen times two
- 20:34Speaker 1: consecutive games.
- 20:35Speaker 2: That's bad. It's bad.
- 20:36Speaker 4: Should the Yankees change their name to Yankees, But where
- 20:39Speaker 4: the k is it's seventeen of them?
- 20:43Speaker 1: Wait, explain it again. First off, let me we need
- 20:46Speaker 1: explanation on this. You're in Lake taha It is one
- 20:49Speaker 1: of the most gorgeous places on Earth, Okay, and yet
- 20:53Speaker 1: you found time yesterday.
- 20:54Speaker 2: To listen to the Michael Kaye Show.
- 20:57Speaker 4: Content never sleepy, I'm listening to I'm listening to everything.
- 21:01Speaker 1: But I mean, seriously, the Michael you had a ton
- 21:05Speaker 1: of work to do yesterday, got it all done.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Again. We're in the nicest place on the planet. I
- 21:10Speaker 2: haven't seen a clown since we arrived here.
- 21:12Speaker 1: And so what you decided to do on your free
- 21:14Speaker 1: time is not walk around Lake Tahoe, not sit by
- 21:17Speaker 1: the lake. You decided, hey, this would be a good
- 21:20Speaker 1: time at a good place to fire up the Michael
- 21:22Speaker 1: kay Show.
- 21:23Speaker 4: Well once once the Yankees strikeout seventeen times in a game, yes,
- 21:28Speaker 4: you kind of have to hear what Michael kay has
- 21:30Speaker 4: to say.
- 21:31Speaker 1: He's the perfect guy to talk about seventeen gays. What
- 21:38Speaker 1: is happening with Brad Stevens, by the way, who I
- 21:40Speaker 1: ripped in the first hour, by the way, and I
- 21:42Speaker 1: said he should be ashamed of himself for trading Jy
- 21:44Speaker 1: leb Brad and making the Sixers so attractive that Lebron
- 21:47Speaker 1: James is now going to go there.
- 21:49Speaker 2: I believe.
- 21:49Speaker 1: I'm not reporting that it's a guess. I think Lebron
- 21:52Speaker 1: James is going to end up being a Philadelphia seventy
- 21:54Speaker 1: six er.
- 21:55Speaker 2: I do.
- 21:55Speaker 1: I think it's the best story for him. But what
- 21:56Speaker 1: is what is Brad Stevens doing here?
- 21:58Speaker 4: So Brad Stevens came out yesterday when the trade becomes official,
- 22:01Speaker 4: pull Paul George to the Celtics, Jalen Brown to Philadelphia,
- 22:06Speaker 4: Brad Stevens comes out to defend the trade. And when
- 22:10Speaker 4: he comes out to talk.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Which means he's defending himself.
- 22:13Speaker 4: Yes, right, he basically admitted it's hard to win when
- 22:17Speaker 4: seventy percent of your cap is tied to two players.
- 22:20Speaker 4: When the Celtics won the title with Jalen Brown and
- 22:23Speaker 4: Jason Tatum, they occupied forty seven percent of the cap. Right,
- 22:28Speaker 4: So the cap just continues to go up and up
- 22:30Speaker 4: because of how good the Celtics, how good those two
- 22:33Speaker 4: players have been on the Celtics, and Paul George gives
- 22:37Speaker 4: the Celtics more long term flexibility because his deal is
- 22:40Speaker 4: one year shorter than Jalen Brown's to get off the book.
- 22:43Speaker 1: Yeah, but now seventy percent of their payroll is wrapped
- 22:46Speaker 1: up in Paul George and Jason Tatum as opposed to
- 22:48Speaker 1: Jalen Brown and Jason Tatum, who won you title again.
- 22:51Speaker 4: Short term you didn't fix much. If you're Brad Stevens,
- 22:55Speaker 4: long term you did. Because Brad Stevens was pressed further,
- 22:58Speaker 4: he was like, so, would you say that the Jalen
- 23:00Speaker 4: Brown trade is primarily a move to restructure the books
- 23:03Speaker 4: And Brad Stevens was like, no, that's not what it is.
- 23:06Speaker 4: It's a move to keep us at a very competitive
- 23:08Speaker 4: level now and give us optionality moving forward. And that's
- 23:11Speaker 4: what it feels like. This deal is for the Celtics,
- 23:14Speaker 4: where you're not tying your cap to seventy percent with
- 23:17Speaker 4: just two players. The interesting part about what Brad Stevens
- 23:21Speaker 4: had to say STU, Yeah, he suggested that team should
- 23:24Speaker 4: get discounts against the cap the longer a player is there.
- 23:29Speaker 2: I like that idea.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Actually, Brad Stevens, you should be ashamed of yourself, but
- 23:33Speaker 1: you should also be commended for coming up with that idea.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Ashamed of yourself because you traded. I don't mind the trade.
- 23:39Speaker 1: I actually understand what it is he is saying, the optionality,
- 23:43Speaker 1: the shorter term on Paul George.
- 23:45Speaker 2: I get all of it.
- 23:46Speaker 1: I don't mind him trading Jalen Brown and keeping Jason
- 23:49Speaker 1: Tatum because he thinks Tatum's the one on that team.
- 23:51Speaker 2: I get it, I understand it.
- 23:53Speaker 1: What I don't like is, again for the one hundredth time,
- 23:56Speaker 1: how you trade Jalen Brown to a team that you
- 24:00Speaker 1: play fifteen times a year, that's inside your division, inside
- 24:04Speaker 1: your conference, that who just beat you in the NBA
- 24:06Speaker 1: playoffs without Jalen Brown. That's my only issue with it.
- 24:08Speaker 1: I do like what he's saying here, though, I like
- 24:10Speaker 1: it a lot.
- 24:11Speaker 4: Because it does feel to a certain extent that the
- 24:13Speaker 4: Boston Celtics are being penalized that they had back to
- 24:17Speaker 4: back great drafts with Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown. Those
- 24:20Speaker 4: that duo won the city a title, and now you're
- 24:24Speaker 4: getting to the point where you're having to decide between
- 24:26Speaker 4: one or the other. And obviously the Celtics are going
- 24:29Speaker 4: to pick the guy who analytically they're saying, is the
- 24:31Speaker 4: better player, even though he is coming off a pretty
- 24:34Speaker 4: bad Achilles injury. So that got me thinking, like, all
- 24:37Speaker 4: the player movement, it's good for parody. You see it
- 24:40Speaker 4: with eight different NBA champions the past eight years. Yeah,
- 24:43Speaker 4: it's great for us on sports radio because it gives
- 24:46Speaker 4: us a ton of content, a ton of hours to
- 24:49Speaker 4: talk about all these moves. Yeah, but is it good
- 24:52Speaker 4: for the fan experience in the NBA all the movement.
- 24:55Speaker 1: Well, the fans love the transaction more than the action.
- 24:58Speaker 1: They do, so they love, like you know, it fills
- 25:01Speaker 1: a void in sports radio on the sports calendar. In
- 25:05Speaker 1: terms of NBA free agency, we're still sitting here in
- 25:08Speaker 1: the middle of the summer talking about where Lebron James
- 25:10Speaker 1: is gonna end up. And so I think the fans
- 25:12Speaker 1: like it from that standpoint. But sports are just different now.
- 25:16Speaker 1: I mean, guys are going to stay on your team
- 25:17Speaker 1: for fifteen, sixteen, seventeen years anymore. So it's constantly changing,
- 25:22Speaker 1: constantly evolving. And yes, I do think it's good for
- 25:25Speaker 1: a sport. I don't think it. I don't think it
- 25:27Speaker 1: hurts the sports fan. I guess as long as they
- 25:29Speaker 1: know their team is trying to get better and trying
- 25:31Speaker 1: to win, you know, I just think.
- 25:33Speaker 4: From the sports fan perspective, like the era of NBA
- 25:37Speaker 4: player spending their entire career with one team, it's basically
- 25:42Speaker 4: non existent at this point.
- 25:44Speaker 2: Yeah, it's Steph Curry. I mean, it's Raymond Green.
- 25:47Speaker 4: And in that situation with the Warriors, you have somebody
- 25:50Speaker 4: like Klay Thompson who becomes a Golden State fan favorite,
- 25:53Speaker 4: become a cap casualty because you're looking at where the
- 25:56Speaker 4: second apron is structured with this NBA being discouraged from
- 26:01Speaker 4: keeping that corp together. Where if you go back to
- 26:03Speaker 4: the early two thousands, Tim Duncan plays all nineteen seasons
- 26:07Speaker 4: in San Antonio, manud Ginobili plays all sixteen seasons in
- 26:10Speaker 4: San Antonio, Tony Parker plays his first seventeen seasons, he
- 26:13Speaker 4: goes to Charlotte for that eighteen season. Yes, that core
- 26:17Speaker 4: can't stay together in today's NBA. No, there's no way
- 26:19Speaker 4: it would be impossible. But you're listen, It's the same
- 26:21Speaker 4: thing in college football, right.
- 26:25Speaker 2: Taylor. It is.
- 26:25Speaker 1: I mean you essentially have guys quarterbacks, second third string quarterbacks.
- 26:29Speaker 1: If they're not gonna start at Ohio State, they're gonna
- 26:31Speaker 1: leave Ohio State and go to Michigan or go somewhere else.
- 26:34Speaker 1: And so I think that gets the fan base as
- 26:36Speaker 1: excited as long as they think, again, their university, their program,
- 26:39Speaker 1: or their professional team is making an attempt to get better.
- 26:43Speaker 2: But you're never gonna see that again.
- 26:44Speaker 1: You're never gonna have where you can wake up every
- 26:47Speaker 1: single day and know the Spurs starting five. Those days
- 26:50Speaker 1: are long gone, my friend.
- 26:51Speaker 4: I guess that's the point I'm trying to make from
- 26:53Speaker 4: the fan experience, where you're losing that attachment to players
- 26:56Speaker 4: where if for the college example that you just gave,
- 26:59Speaker 4: there used to be a time where you knew who
- 27:02Speaker 4: the starting lineup was for North Carolina. You knew who
- 27:04Speaker 4: the starting lineup was for Duke. Now it feels like
- 27:07Speaker 4: I'm gonna turn on a Carolina game and it's anybody's
- 27:10Speaker 4: guess who that starting five is gonna be, right, And
- 27:12Speaker 4: it feels, almost to a certain extent, like these players
- 27:15Speaker 4: are becoming mercenaries where they're just going to the highest dollar.
- 27:19Speaker 1: Well they are, but that's what the players wanted, I mean,
- 27:22Speaker 1: and they wanted this forever.
- 27:23Speaker 2: If you think of those teams back in.
- 27:25Speaker 1: The early eighties with North Carolina, where it was Sam
- 27:27Speaker 1: Perkins and Michael Jordan and James Worthy Big game James.
- 27:32Speaker 2: I think Keddy Smith was on those teams.
- 27:34Speaker 1: What of those three guys, Perkins, Worthy, Jordan, Probably Perkins
- 27:37Speaker 1: would be like, Hey, why'd be the number three here
- 27:40Speaker 1: when I could be the number one at NC State
- 27:42Speaker 1: or I could be the number one at Virginia And
- 27:45Speaker 1: one of those three probably would have transferred if they
- 27:48Speaker 1: had the ability to transfer at the top.
- 27:50Speaker 4: Yeah, the new second apron rules are basically encouraging team turnover,
- 27:55Speaker 4: where it almost feels like I don't know how the
- 27:57Speaker 4: players accepted this in their to CBA. This feels like
- 28:01Speaker 4: a case where the owners kind of just push them
- 28:03Speaker 4: around because it's either becoming you're on a super max
- 28:07Speaker 4: contract or you're on one of these these very team
- 28:11Speaker 4: friendly deals. Like there's no really like these mid level
- 28:14Speaker 4: players anymore getting mid level deals. And Stu the only
- 28:18Speaker 4: reason I'm kind of bringing this up today. Yeah, as
- 28:20Speaker 4: a Nick fan, I could see the riding on the wall, right.
- 28:25Speaker 4: Karl Anthony Towns is signed through next year. If he
- 28:28Speaker 4: declines his player option after next season, he's eligible for
- 28:31Speaker 4: the same four year, two hundred and seventy three million
- 28:33Speaker 4: dollar contract that Donovan Mitchell just got.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Right, but his desire he won a title.
- 28:39Speaker 3: Yeah, but you're seeing the case where you.
- 28:42Speaker 1: Think we're gonna lose Karl Anthony Towns. It's gonna be
- 28:44Speaker 1: possible to afford Karl Anthony Towns and Jalen Brunson.
- 28:47Speaker 4: It's hard to see the Knicks paying him that level
- 28:51Speaker 4: of deal when you know a Jalen Brunson payday is
- 28:55Speaker 4: eventually coming. Jalen Brunson is the team's captain. If you're
- 28:59Speaker 4: having to pay between Karl Anthony Towns getting this level
- 29:02Speaker 4: deal or Jalen Brunson getting this level deal, I think
- 29:05Speaker 4: the Knicks are giving it to Jalen Brunson every time
- 29:08Speaker 4: the Knicks won a title because Jalen Brunson took this
- 29:11Speaker 4: pay cut that allowed more roster flexibility. That's not really
- 29:14Speaker 4: the norm for the NBA.
- 29:16Speaker 1: No, it's what makes It's one of the many reasons
- 29:18Speaker 1: we love Jalen Brunton so much. He changed your life.
- 29:21Speaker 1: He took a pay cut so many times over. But
- 29:23Speaker 1: you don't see Jalen Brunton doing that again, is your point.
- 29:26Speaker 1: And I don't think he should, right, but maybe he
- 29:28Speaker 1: will because he wants to win more titles with Karl
- 29:31Speaker 1: Anthony Towns. I mean, if you're looking at James, I
- 29:34Speaker 1: gotta tell you I love waking up every single morning
- 29:36Speaker 1: knowing I could pencil in my starting five for the
- 29:38Speaker 1: New York Knickerbockers I do. This is so fantastic that
- 29:41Speaker 1: every team is making moves and trying to get Lebron
- 29:44Speaker 1: James at the age of forty one because they're simply
- 29:46Speaker 1: trying to catch up with our team.
