- Robin Axline: No, that's just funny. Yeah, so I hope we have time for a petty battle. Tita Lors: We'll see. If not, honestly I've been debating making petty battles like a separate thing. Robin Axline: Like the whole thing is just us like head to head. Yeah, we should. That'd be so funny. Yeah, that could, I mean, that could work. I guess we'll just see if we can add like another day in every once in a while. Just like a bonus. I mean, that could work if we have the time. I think today I was like worried about going over time because you usually have to go pick up. You're big. Tita Lors: I know. Luckily, Ryan's home. He's got he's going to have hopefully the same schedule for like a month. So he'll be. He'll be at work from six a.m. to two a.m. So home. No, not six to six a.m. to two p.m. Sorry. That sounds horrible. Robin Axline: I was like, what in the world? Yeah. Tita Lors: Yeah, yeah, that's awful. No, 6 to 2 p.m. and then his, but his weekends, weekends are Wednesday and Thursday. Robin Axline: OK, got you, got you. At least it's steady for now. Tita Lors: Yeah. Yup. For now, we'll see. OK. This one has a whole bunch of updates, because it's best of Redditor updates. Okay. So this is r slash best of Redditor updates. It's from three years ago. by Lucy Aria Rose. petty revenge throw me under the bus. Nah, I don't think so. and then it says, I'm not the original poster. Yeah, I'm not the original poster. That's you slash troiax elation. And he posted this in our slash petty revenge. Clarifies he is male and the comments. And they found out what OOP means. So it's the. original original poster. I know. Robin Axline: Whoa. Mind blown. I didn't even know that exists. It's like inception vibes. Tita Lors: I know, like so I guess in this situation if you're gonna post somebody else's story, you're the OP then in that case, but the person the story is about who initially posted is the OOP. So. Robin Axline: Okay, cool. Got him in the loop now, thank you. Tita Lors: I know, I was like, what is happening? Why do I have to say the O twice? I know, seriously. Robin Axline: Yeah. Are they messing with me or what? Tita Lors: Blue, blue, blue. Original post was from April 14th, 2023. Yeah. Right. And if they fail to sign because of me, then that can come back to bite my company in the ass because we might have to pay for the repair ourselves. This hasn't ever happened yet. Just a potential consequence. I'll knock on wood now. So I'm so I'm fastidious about my work. Half an hour ago. That's such a good word. Fastidious. Robin Axline: I'm going to work that into a sentence today. Tita Lors: Yeah, I know, seriously. Ladies and gentlemen, that is your SAT word of the day. Robin Axline: Word of the day is fastidious. Fastidious, fastidious. What was it again? Fastidious. No, I don't know. Tita Lors: Fasidious? Fasidious? Right? Or is it Fasidious? I think it's Fasidious. But it's spelled Fasidious. But it's Fasidious. We're gonna look this up! Robin Axline: If you hear it today, scream in the person's face. Go, Like the Pee Arvin show. Tita Lors: you Robin Axline: Fastidious. Isn't that, doesn't it Tita Lors: Ahem. Robin Axline: mean like you're fastidious? Tita Lors: It's very like your thing. Robin Axline: Like you're studied up or like up to up to date or something. That's the only word I can use to describe it. Tita Lors: Like meticulous. Meticulous, Robin Axline: okay. Tita Lors: discerning. synonym here is persnickety. Yeah, but the actual the actual definition Okay, that has so how you actually say it is fastidious. then it means being extremely attentive to accuracy, detail and cleanliness, often to the point of being overly fussy or hard to please. which makes sense. And now you all know too, you're welcome. Good luck on your SATs. Okay. Half an hour ago, I got an email from one of my account managers. We'll call him Hank. Subject line wasn't directly hostile, but it was marked important and listed a bigger account. Hank you did ask about that. And we determined it was in no way my job and definitely something you should handle. And you said you'd handle that six months ago. Did you not handle it like you said you would in front of our bosses? And now Hank's boss can start his day by reading about how Hank promised a customer a contract half a year ago and then never followed through. I suspect that Hank will be meeting with his boss in a few hours to discuss this. It's gonna be a tough, tough day for Hank. Anyone tries to throw me under the bus, I'm ready with a judo flip. I ain't going out like that. And then edit, sorry, was typing on my phone, contact was contract and was corrected. nevermind, I didn't have to do that. Okay. What do you think so far? Because this has, this has updates. Ugh, I mean he could try, but he's the one who did it first. Robin Axline: Yeah, that's true that. Let's let's let's hear the updates. Tita Lors: Like, what did you think was gonna happen? Let's see what the updates. Okay, so the OP said, my favorite comment from OOP is, I have the memory of a goldfish, but the tenacity of a small entitled chihuahua. It's so good. Okay. So here's an update from three and a half months later. Quick TLDR. We don't have to read that. So as the title states, I'm now working with a different company. wait, what? Excuse me. Okay. Throw throw me under the bus. It worked. I got fired. my gosh. What? Robin Axline: I wasn't expecting that. Tita Lors: I wasn't either. Okay, quick. Too long didn't read TLDR for those new to the story. An account manager named Hank wasn't doing his job, got in trouble and tried to throw me under the bus and pinned it on me. But I, I'd kept receipts and proved he was the real problem. He was, he was fastidious. So as the title states, I'm now working with a different company. So what happened? Well, for that we need background on Mary. new characters. I love this. Mary was an account manager a few years ago, ambitious, slimy, and willing to cheat. When she saw a woman near retirement making double what she made, she saw an opportunity. Sarah had a team of three under her, and she was old fashioned and very particular. This is a new person, Sarah. Okay, okay. It would have been easy for Sarah to rub people the wrong way. Sadly, she was an easy target. Mary got some friends together and launched a character attack on Sarah, pointing out their slow, meager growth and saying she could do that whole team's job blindfolded if she was given the chance. My favorite thing about people who say this is they're usually wrong. Robin Axline: Hmm. Yeah, totally. When you call and you think I'm going to call it and then it's like, Tita Lors: Yeah, you find out very quickly. You cannot. You can't even Robin Axline: Yeah. Tita Lors: fathom what's happening. OK. The company listened. Sarah was pushed into early retirement and Mary was given Sarah's job, but they didn't give Mary a team. Ha ha ha ha. Robin Axline: Ohhhh Tita Lors: Well, she said she could do it blindfolded by herself. Robin Axline: Yeah. Tita Lors: The whole team, she said. Robin Axline: What a slime ball, yeah. Tita Lors: Yeah, what a slimeball, but also stupid. Way to shoot yourself in the foot. Now you have to do the job of like four people. Idiot. So, sorry. I don't have strong feelings about this at all. Robin Axline: Okay. Tita Lors: Okay, so since Mary said she could do the whole team's job herself, turns out the company took her at her word. Company saw they could fire four, promote one, and cut cost. Whoops. Now, Mary can't promote the AM buddies she'd conspired with. Not yet, anyways. So she buckles down and does her best to stay afloat. So guess there were people that she wanted on her team and she was trying to like, once I get this, you're gonna get, Mary Flounders. After a rough year and a half, she's deep in drugs and booze. my God. Her numbers Robin Axline: Whoa! Tita Lors: are terrible. And she's facing a firing squad because there's an employee in her department, a lower rung contacting guy. I'm assuming contracting guy who is outpacing her. That's right. If you haven't put it together, Mary was my current boss. And I sadly didn't know about Mary's rise to her position until after the hammer dropped. Talking with her coworkers. I don't know about the last part. Anyways, so guess he's the lower rung contracting guy. Yeah. Mary was doing the... Robin Axline: I Tita Lors: Go ahead. Robin Axline: was gonna say like some other people that worked with their longer probably filled them in is what he was trying to say perhaps. Tita Lors: Yeah, not until later. Mary was doing the job of my four previous managers and definitely struggling to keep her head above water. Having way too much to do as Sarah's team's replacement. My entire team knew she'd been promoting people into Sarah's team's old roles eventually, and we all hoped for a spot. since I was regularly hitting 200 % quota. Damn! I was a shoo-in for one of those spots. Or was I? I know. Sadly, it turns out that Mary's position was actually worse than any of us knew. After underperforming for too long, she was secretly facing termination. And turns out, they were looking to hire me in her spot. And they brought me up for training right after my vacation. Mary was panicking, facing losing her job, and she knew I kept receipts so she couldn't make up a story and write me off like she'd done to get where she is now. Then the Hank problem happened. I emailed her my receipts, and instead, Mary found an ally. She saw an opportunity to work with Hank, an AM. AM must mean something. Account manager, there we go. an AM who also wanted me gone now for his own job security and together they devised a plan. my gosh, your writing is amazing. Seriously, while I was out for a week visiting family down south, they collected several account manager complaints that no one ever saw, just stuff she knew about AMs that didn't want to keep working with me. Lies, probably. Hank and Mary worked together while I was out of the office and couldn't defend myself, pressured my weak willed boss and made their move. She said my emails were unprofessional, citing an email where I asked, I was wondering if you'd had the chance to review the contract I'd sent over a few weeks ago as being pushy, unprofessional, and accusatory. I know. My boss crumpled like a house of cards. No warning. No, right? Robin Axline: I love that. Tita Lors: No warning. No write up. No training to improve. No days without pay. No demotion. For a trumped up email charge and some vague promises of whispers in the wind and probably some money or favors to my boss. My boss caved and went from a slap on the wrist to launching the nuke. When I got back on... When I got back on Monday, they met me at the door, so to speak. We all work from home. And let me know they had decided to let me go. No discussion. It was all decided and finalized. I was hired by another company same day. Wow. So I'm fine making the same money. So the worst thing I'll lose out on is that 200 % bonus payout every few months, which does suck. that sucks. Be careful. Sometimes when you avoid being thrown under a bus, they just get a bigger bus and try again. OK, there's relevant comments and a few like responses from the OOP. What do you think? Robin Axline: This person's writing so many flourishes. It's so visual. Yeah, serious. I think... I mean, from that email, it sounded pretty mature. Like, it didn't sound unprofessional or accusatory. So I'm very surprised that the boss could even... Well, who knows? There could have been more stuff that lies and gifts and deception. Tita Lors: Yeah, the OOP. The double OOP. If you're performing at 200%, like, that's super impressive. And probably why they thought that he could actually legit do this chick's job. Robin Axline: I think it's wild that the company would take that chance to even if like they're kind of like yeah okay you do it I'll save money I don't know that's a little weird Tita Lors: Mm-hmm. Seriously. Robin Axline: yeah Tita Lors: Without, like, any proof or evidence that she actually could do it. Or fastidious. Well, don't think it's the company. think it's just this particular person. Like she was a manager. She was in this role and she was trying to protect herself. It's very Game of Thrones. Robin Axline: and Hank. Yeah, yeah, is totally. Anyway, yeah, that's my thoughts. Tita Lors: Okay, so reflections from the double OP is what I'm going to call this from now on. I really hate that I was friends with the guy. We started at the company same day and we had one another and we had one another's backs. When his family failed, I picked him up. When my AC caught fire, he shelled out from his own pockets to get me sorted out. When he did stand up comedy, I was on the front row and paying for a shirt. That's that was all before he got promoted to manager. Once he was there, he slowly sink to all about me. That's part of what sucks, is he knows. Even said privately he agrees that it's the wrong move. He was just too cowardly to fight back. Wow. their reactions and your, I know, right? their reactions and your reactions to the firing, no clue what theirs were. It's not like they were in the room. As for me, I asked for feedback from my manager. He said he would get it to me. I thanked them for the opportunity. They ended the call and emailed me privately with instructions on how to return my equipment. exit meeting was under five minutes. I managed to keep my cool until she, until the call ended and then I broke down. And then someone was like, not saying you're making it up, but why on earth would they trust her word over yours? He said, that's been keeping me up at night. No lie. No cap. I was even friends with my manager outside of work, so it stung really bad. We haven't spoken since. He just ignores me. I hate the idea that she might have promised him a promotion. But he's always been money motivated, so that might have been all it took. I really hope not, but I honestly can't say. I really wish I could, though. I don't care if you believe in believe in it, man, and know my entire team is very professional other than Mary and Hank. And I was happy to share drinks and dinner with them. In fact, I really miss my manager. He and I were friends outside of work. He was a funny comedian in the off hours. But don't get it twisted. My manager's boss is Mary. She should be fired, but nobody wants to fire her yet. And then a response to a few posts says, hey, double OP here. I'm in. He didn't, you know, I'm just saying double OPs is funnier to me. I'm in an at will state where people can fire you on the spot without giving a reason. The fact that they made one up at all is nice considering what some companies do. I do hope their numbers tank next quarter, but time will tell. that was so good. I love it. Such good writing. Really good. Best of Redditor update. What are you... I'm like, are we even reading here? I think we're reading... They're like CCing your boss, guess, kind of, like the bosses in your response. Because that's like the original thing that he did before the update. Yeah, just turns out it had really, really big consequences. Robin Axline: Yeah. Poor Sarah. No, I'm just kidding. You Yeah, we didn't hear what happened to her. Tita Lors: Well she got pushed out, hopefully she's living the life now. Okay, let's hear your story. Robin Axline: Okay, I'll tell it. Tita Lors: Hahaha Robin Axline: Alright, so my Petty Battle entry is from Petty Revenge a year ago and the OP is Any Underscore Union 1934. Tita Lors: Do you think they thought about that? Or it was a sign to them? Robin Axline: That's what I was wondering about... 1934? Yeah, I don't think that would be... I have no idea. Yeah, I don't know. I'd be curious. But this definitely sounds like a made up name by the OP. Because the one that the Reddit gives is usually like kind of odd. No no no, uh, Petty Revenge Against My Door Slamming Landlord's Mom is the title. So, I live in a place where the lounge has two doors bolt with dodgy latches. My landlord's mom, who seems to have nothing better to do with her days than lounge on the sofa all day watching tacky soap operas, has this absolutely infuriating ritual. Every time she re-enters the room, she insists the doors need to be fully shut. So, she slams each door repeatedly until they latch shut. Oh man, that would drive me crazy. The problem? Slamming one door almost always makes the other one pop open because of air pressure. Oh no! then the other, sometimes multiple times, until they both magically stay shut. This can go on for upwards of 10 or 15 minutes at all, and that all is in caps, at all hours of the day and night. Tita Lors: No. Robin Axline: Uh-uh. Uh-uh. Yeah. So to make things even funnier, the main door she uses to exit the room and participate in her slamming Olympics... That's Tita Lors: Hahaha! Robin Axline: funny... is the furthest one away from her beloved sofa. So every failed attempt means she's trekking back and forth like it's a marathon. One day, after enduring this nonsense for far too long, I decided to have a little fun. I partially filled the door latches with hot glue. my gosh. Just enough so they don't latch properly unless you get really gently but firmly press the door into the frame until it clicks. And trust me, gentle in quotation marks is not in this woman's vocabulary. Now, every time she slams one door, it's even easier for the other one to pop open at the slightest air pressure change. And here's where the real fun begins. Once she's finally finished her door slamming ritual and flopped back onto the sofa, I wait about a minute, crack open a window to create a minor change in air pressure and listen to the chaos unfold as the door springs open again. boy. Cue her exasperated grunt, stomping back up and starting the whole exhausting process all over. The cherry on top. She hasn't figured out how to use playback apps for her soap operas, so every time she's up slamming doors, she's missing bits of her shows. At this point, her day is less about lounging and more about managing her never-ending door drama, and I am absolutely living for it. Sure the slamming is annoying, but watching her waste her time turning into a door wrangling gladiator worth it. Before now, I have gone completely crazy. If it wasn't for the fact, I've turned this into endless entertainment. Tita Lors: That would drive me crazy. I think it would still drive me crazy because there's only so long that that's gonna be funny. I have things to do. Yeah, I have sleep. Robin Axline: totally, totally, I have things to do. Tita Lors: I want to sleep. Yeah, like the garage door and like that has to be sort of slammed shut also. And it shakes the whole house. It's so annoying. even like the front door when people just let the gate slam shut instead of like gently closing it. I'm like, you guys never got in trouble for this. Robin Axline: I know right? my god I would have been like Tita Lors: You Robin Axline: screamed at or something like for slamming things. Ugh. Yeah. Tita Lors: Yes, me too! I know my kids don't get yelled at for this because I try to not be that way, but I sure did! Robin Axline: Same, same, same, same. yeah, so it does sound, I don't know, my quick take is it does sound pretty petty to allow yourself to still have to have the store slamming going on. throw me under the bus. Somebody said you should get a universal remote and a mirror and a glass Tita Lors: That's so funny. Robin Axline: covered framed artwork on the wall to create a surface to bounce the beam off the remote to the TV without you physically being in direct line of it. When the door slams, the channel changes or mute. come on. Or get a clapper. Tita Lors: my gosh! That's... Yeah, a clapper. Robin Axline: That's so funny. And then the OP goes, I have a universal remote somewhere. I never thought to use it. I couldn't get away with contraptions. I may as well just stand outside with it. Anyway, that's kind of funny. It's called, revenge, pay revenge against my door slamming landlords. Tita Lors: door slamming landlords. Robin Axline: Oh, it's Derslan, even Landlord's mom. Tita Lors: Okay, I was like, I feel like there's more to the story here. Robin Axline: Yeah. Landlord's mom. Tita Lors: Okay. I'm gonna call it door slamming mama. Alright, squeech this over, squeech that over. Okay, throw me under the bus. How trivial are the results? I feel like it shouldn't have been that trivi- like, yeah, it shouldn't have been that big of a deal, but it turned out to be a pretty big deal. Robin Axline: Yeah, exactly. So it became trivial. I mean, not trivial. Tita Lors: Yeah, or like it was, it should have been trivial. Like this is meaningless. It's whatever, right? Like it should have been whatever, but it ended up being such a bigger deal. So I'm thinking right of five. It's like bigger. Because he got fired. Robin Axline: I see. Okay. Yeah, no, I mean, that's Lifestyle situation. Six. So I don't think it's, yeah, no, that's a low one. I'll go... I'll go four. Even though it probably was a three, but also that he was so fastidious about... Tita Lors: Hahaha Robin Axline: Next there's gonna be glitter coming from the ceiling. About keeping tabs on all this stuff. Could breed as that, but it's not. So four. Yeah, I was like, I've had a job where I had to sign a paper before about that. Tita Lors: Yeah, well, California is at will and it's recommended. If you don't want to get sued by somebody because they think that you fired them for the wrong reasons, this person could probably sue. Honestly. Which I'm imagining a lot of like the his comments about the at-will state I'm imagining that that's why he said that it was an at-will state Robin Axline: And you know, I never heard what happened to Mary if she ended up going to Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous. Tita Lors: Or she got fired eventually, hopefully. I don't think that was in the updates. Crazy. Okay, so is this an overreaction? Left of five, so smaller than five. Did he overreact with his email? Yeah, Robin Axline: I mean, not on his account. Tita Lors: his email was totally appropriate, so... Like, one or two? Okay. All right. All right. So Doris Lamin Mama. It's the slamming of the door. It's the principle of the thing. So Ryan and I say all the time, it's the principle. Robin Axline: Mm, I love that. Yes, it's the principle of it. Yeah. Tita Lors: Okay, but we're talking about the results. The results are that she had to keep giving up. This is not trivial. Yeah. So it's not really Robin Axline: and miss a bunch of her soap operas. Tita Lors: that trivial. It kind of sucks. Sure. Okay, actually, do you think it's more or less trivial than the throw me under the bus situation? Like, should it rate higher or lower than the throw me under the bus? Okay, cool. How spiteful is his behavior? Robin Axline: Shevin sounds great. 55. She, you know, yeah, I think it is because out of spite he didn't fix the door. He made it worse. Like, Tita Lors: Yeah, exactly. Robin Axline: dude, just fix the door. Right. would have been a real strain. Yeah. Actually the landlord should fix it. It's his mom. Right? Tita Lors: Yeah, exactly! It's his mom! Hello? Are you not hearing this? Are you not annoyed? Robin Axline: He's like, stay in this rickety old house. Tita Lors: Okay, is it an overreaction for this OP to have done what he, what they did? Robin Axline: No, no, I don't because even though maybe the mother is like kind of OCD also, I don't know. Like she has to slam it. Tita Lors: Mm-hmm. Let's kind of think of that repetitive behavior. Robin Axline: Yeah, like she's counting. She has to do it like five times and then she can sit down or something. I don't know. But I also god. I was gonna say, but I also think it's very rude. Of her. Yeah, that's true. I just, it sounds like he never spoke to her about this issue. Yeah. Tita Lors: Yeah, or at least hasn't yet. Yeah. Okay, so is it an overreaction? Like I always say, it's a reaction. Yeah. It is a choice. Robin Axline: choice. It's always a reaction. Yes, that one. It's a reaction and a choice. Tita Lors: You Robin Axline: Words of wisdom from Laura. So yes, I Tita Lors: Okay. How do we want to read this? Robin Axline: Right, yeah. That's a good way to do it. It's very neutral. so... Right? That's what I kind of arrived at, too. I was like, wait a minute, the landlord's the son? Weird. Uh, yes. So... I'm gonna go with the last one that I said. Six, or... Okay. Tita Lors: You're the winner! Awesome. Copy. Dave. Robin won. You also won like the overall of the last. Yeah. Well, no, Robin Axline: my gosh, no way! I thought you probably would have for sure. Tita Lors: you won the overall because you got the washing machine revenge and the washing machine revenge was the overall winner. The like the silver, the bra and the two tied bronzes. Those were my stories. But you can't. You didn't come to play last week. Last week, you were like, nah, I got this. You want petty? got petty. Robin Axline: I brought my A game for sure. But yeah, when I heard yours... It's been brought in. Tita Lors: you Robin Axline: no, I was just gonna say, because of the ratings, was like, well, certainly won. But I see what happened. Tita Lors: Yeah, yeah. Okay, well, Yeah. And if you guys have petty stories that you want to enter into the petty battles, send them to us. We're thinking about making, yeah, we're thinking about making the petty battles its own separate thing because they ended up taking, they always end up taking a good amount of time. Robin Axline: So we might do like an oops all battles up. Tita Lors: Yeah, just, yeah, create where it's, have it be its own regular thing. Let us know. Are we just doing too much? Too bad. We don't care. Robin Axline: Too bad we don't care it's our show. You're just living in it. Tita Lors: Just kidding, listen. We need you to listen. Robin Axline: Just kidding, JK, JK. Send us some tea, please. Tita Lors: I'm not baking but like, you know.
