- 1:26Tonight I should have had some things different ones ready, but I didn't.
- 1:29You know, I have Christmas ones, but I guess it's not too early.
- 1:32But I'm not gonna. I ain't even got I know I do,
- 1:34but I don't have them. But effort we on holiday. This is a
- 1:37special episode and as always I'm joined by Tasiana King d Grand that's his tech,
- 1:42also known as Sean John Luke, Pacard, Guorilla, grod Flex,
- 1:46Luthor, Gucci, Mandalorian Lambeo, Colizian, He who Cannot be Shamed,
- 1:52Tessaak Thompson, doc AKEI Challah Bread, the Book of Ashanti, Miles Tails,
- 1:57the Prowler, Kucikagulia down to the Socks, and the Team of the
- 2:01North. As you can see, we're filling this episode with a k's because
- 2:05we don't have much to talk about. That's not true. We always have
- 2:07a lot to talk about. We always say that at the beginning, like
- 2:10oh, we had none to stay. Then we start running our mouths about
- 2:13something into pretty much. We tried to do bonus episodes over like twenty minutes
- 2:17long, and they're like hours, right, literally, let's keep this do
- 2:21let's keep the short here hours car. Yeah, so here we are is
- 2:25you can see if you're watching us on YouTube right now because we're not live,
- 2:29well this might be on stitch too, Yeah, but you know that's
- 2:32get this together. Yeah, you gotta get that together. But you know
- 2:35we are. We've been broadcasting more on Twitch, I TV, slash for
- 2:38all nerves. We've been doing live shows. This ain't exactly live, it's
- 2:42semi live, you know, as it were, but this is you know
- 2:45how we're doing it now. So we're doing a lot more and you're getting
- 2:47a bonus episode right now for the holidays because we're on break. But you
- 2:52know, we wanted to bring you a little bit more. So we're gonna
- 2:53talk about, you know, some things that's going on, some things we've
- 2:57seen, some things you might want to check out. You're on break,
- 3:00you know, and you know I'm enjoying this, you know, good legal
- 3:06thing right here. So, uh what what what's the first thing we need
- 3:09to talk about? You know, we did our view of Loki, Yes,
- 3:15Loki and the mc and then Marvel's really the MCU problem as as it
- 3:21were, as as everyone in the world loves to call it, you know,
- 3:25we and you know, shout out to everyone who disagreed with us thoroughly
- 3:30and vehemently. I will say most of you guys did it U in a
- 3:34in a what's the word, in a not honorable but respectful way, respectful
- 3:38way, respectful way, and appreciate that. Like we're not always going to
- 3:42agree, and that's fine. I hope y'all not listen to us because you
- 3:46think we're always going to agree with each other. But like that, right,
- 3:50right right? I think I think y'all listen because we give our objective
- 3:53opinions, whether you agree or not. But then we could talk through like
- 3:54what why y'all felt the way you felt, why we felt the way we
- 3:58felt, and so on and so forth. We collectively, Ben and I
- 4:02felt differently about the Marvels. I scored it, hired and he did I.
- 4:06Actually, I think I enjoyed it more than he did. But we
- 4:10both touched on a lot of the issues we had with it and then with
- 4:15Loki while we were entertained, are you not entertained by it? We you
- 4:21know, we had our issues with some of the rioting and things like that,
- 4:25but at the end of the day, we did feel that, you
- 4:28know, I wanted more for Loki at the end of the day, to
- 4:30be honest with you. But the endpoint that they ended up with was was
- 4:34was pretty like imagery Wise. I think I had said that in that episode
- 4:40imagery Wise like it was. It was big. It was big what they
- 4:43did with him and all the other stuff. But you know, I had
- 4:46my concerns with how they got there, and I fully agree, and after
- 4:50having time to think about it, I will say that for the Marvels,
- 4:56I pretty much say the same thing. Like I told you in the review,
- 4:59when I walked out the theater, I would have given it a deep
- 5:00oh, Ben, I mean, And that's what you guys don't understand.
- 5:03Like we we purposely decided to just wait until the next day of record because
- 5:08Ben, I mean was like very much like no, he was very much
- 5:12a this is a no for me dog and like again, vehemently a no
- 5:17for me dog, like yeah. And I saw one of the comments,
- 5:21in fact, somebody said, oh, I know why you did this because
- 5:25you know it's a black director. And I do want to say yes every
- 5:30time. God damn it, I'm going to give black directors, black writers,
- 5:33black women. I don't give up if you ain't white male. I'm
- 5:38going to give you the benefit of the doubt, you know what I mean
- 5:41in the story, if you ain't straight white male, I'm probably gonna give
- 5:43you benefited out. I think though, because that comment was more than about
- 5:47just benefit of the doubt. They were suggesting that we were ranking well,
- 5:53not you, but perhaps me or perhaps the collective conversation was higher rank than
- 5:59some people. Well because of that. It was done by Nea the cost
- 6:03of black director, and they're, you know, and you have black people
- 6:06or people colored films that had nothing to do with it, that had And
- 6:11that's the way I took that comm and just personally that had absolutely nothing to
- 6:15do with it. I don't care that Nia directed it and that she's a
- 6:18black woman all the other side, That's not how I felt about what I
- 6:20felt about the film. I looked at it objectly as everything with the exceptional
- 6:27guardians. Obviously we keep talking about Guardians as the exclusion is. But I
- 6:30just I have not been having fun with a lot of Marvel movies, a
- 6:34lot of TV shows, and then with this I was entertained. I was
- 6:38having fun for me. It had the levity I wanted. It had a
- 6:42lot of stupid shit in it too, that I was like, I could
- 6:44have done without. And also at the end of the day, I felt
- 6:46that it was generally empty. It was just a means to an end,
- 6:50the end being the post credit scenes. It didn't really mean anything. I
- 6:54also communicated that I'm still not really connected to Monica like that, like I
- 7:00wanted more time with her because I don't. I don't even think I really
- 7:01fuck with her like that, to be quite honest with you, And I
- 7:04had said that or a variation of that in the review. And then I
- 7:10you know, I still don't like Brie Larson's Captain Marvel like that, but
- 7:15she was better to me, ten times better than it was in the Captain
- 7:18Marvel film. And then lastly, Amvelaani is fucking incredible, absolutely outstanding,
- 7:25perfect d star. I still stand behind all that agreed. And as far
- 7:30as Loki, there was a couple of things I will say, like there's
- 7:33some little cute shit right that people pointed out on Twitter, like the last
- 7:39line that Sylvie and Mobyas say to Loki is the same last line that Odin
- 7:46said to Loki before he fell away, and Loki says the same thing to
- 7:48them that he says to Odin. Yeah, and so that's that, you
- 7:51know, Marvel loves to do that type of stuff, you know, because
- 7:55they have all these references they can make to their own films. So that's
- 7:58cute. And the telegraph of the beginning of the MCU about or the beginning
- 8:01of Loki story in the MCU where it's like they talked about the world tree
- 8:05and then him being the world tree. Like, Okay, I got it.
- 8:09It wasn't missed, y'all. It wasn't missed. But but then there's
- 8:13stuff that I did like that I didn't think about because I had forgotten.
- 8:16This part of the myth of Loki is that Loki in myths gets chained to
- 8:20a rock and it's torture, part of his big torture. And so in
- 8:24this once again he gets chained to the rock. It's a throne. He
- 8:28gets his glorious purpose that he always wined. He always just a throne,
- 8:31but he has to suffer for it. He has to lose all his friends,
- 8:35et cetera, et cetera. He's loss to Tommy because now it's he's
- 8:39literally the glue that's holding together the multiverse. Yeah, and I do see
- 8:43the way that they could just eliminate Kane from the picture right now depends on
- 8:48how Yeah, because they could easily make it where the TVA just takes terricanes
- 8:52and that's just not a big deal to them. I mean, that's what
- 8:54they say at the end of the and they're just hunting the king very or
- 9:00monitoring THEYM not say hunting, but monitoring, and then one gets lout of
- 9:03line, maybe they start hunting them. Yeah, so that was cool.
- 9:09I guess, you know, listen, I again, like I and I
- 9:13know a lot of people disagreed with this this comment, but like I didn't
- 9:16necessarily like all the ways they took to get there, Like some of it
- 9:20asked a good question. They said, well, y'all, they felt that
- 9:22we talked a lot about stuff we didn't like. So what would we have
- 9:26wanted, what we have wanted to to see better? Maybe we could talk
- 9:28more about that. I would have wanted to see a more thorough through line
- 9:33for Loki, and I definitely would have liked to see a lot more from
- 9:35Sylvie than we did. I felt like Sylvia, now you kept saying that
- 9:39character became a bit of a prop And then I kind of agree with one
- 9:43choice they made for Sylvie is the fact that she just wants to be left
- 9:46alone and eat McDonald's and do nothing because she's been hunted all this time.
- 9:52But at the time piece yeah, at the same time working in McDonald's,
- 9:56I don't know, I just want to look better, Like fuck that,
- 9:58I'm you know, I can do anything. But I guess also is it
- 10:01I don't know if you've ever seen the Devil sup part time, But it's
- 10:03also like when you've literally had everything you can absolutely ever want, and yes,
- 10:07you're you're hunting, You're you're a god, right, why sometimes you
- 10:11just want the most mundane stuff because that's just the random ship that makes you
- 10:13happy. So yeah, so that part of it I can understand. I
- 10:16just would have liked to see more of her in the series, I guess.
- 10:22Yeah. And then with Loki, I just felt like his character kind
- 10:26of was like especially Okay, I think that people have this thing because they
- 10:31conflate the two Lokis. Right. We had the first Loki who dies in
- 10:35the Infinity Infinity War War, and then we have this Loki who comes from
- 10:41just having destroyed New York and wanting to do all the evil shit that Loki
- 10:46was about you know, his Gloria's purpose, and then he spends some time
- 10:50with Mobius in them, but it's like he watches a movie of his life
- 10:56and he's just supposed to be this We're supposed to conflate him with the old
- 10:58Loki, the one who's been through years of change, had all this redemption
- 11:03art, and I really don't feel like that was just Loki. And earlier
- 11:07in season two they made some points where it's like Loki, like, you
- 11:11know, we are God, Sylvie, and I thought that was a very
- 11:15interesting take where it's like, no, this is still that Loki who is
- 11:18still the evil Loki, or who still sees himself as a god that people
- 11:22should bow down to. And then suddenly, do you think from that it
- 11:28felt like my end? No, if it's there's that moment, and then
- 11:33the other big moment is when he tells Sylvie, I just want my friends
- 11:35back. So it's like, what do you really which one is it?
- 11:39Loki? Is it are you this god who wants to rule over people?
- 11:43Or are you the Loki from later years who knows the value of friendship with
- 11:46Thor and everything? But that this Loki doesn't know that. I mean he
- 11:48knows all that they both end up at the same route. One learns it
- 11:54through thor one loans it through his friendship with Mobius, which I get.
- 11:58I don't know, like overall, I think it it was it was like
- 12:05the stuff I wanted. It was like almost there, it was almost yes.
- 12:09And I had to echo that, like I felt like there were like
- 12:13points it was like, oh, you almost had it, Like let's get
- 12:16a little bit deeper. And that's and we both mentioned that that we felt
- 12:18that there was some There was a lot of surface level stuff necessarily not necessarily
- 12:22a deeper dive or even a deeper explanation or illustration of things. Like I
- 12:28talked a lot about how I didn't give a fuck that they said billions of
- 12:31people are dying on the timeline. There was no substance or of weight to
- 12:37any of that stuff. So you guys repeating it to me over and over
- 12:41again and having be fifteen crying about it and all that stuff, I'm just
- 12:43like, girl, what the fuck? Who cares? This is a squiggle
- 12:46on the screen, Like it just didn't mean anything to me. And I
- 12:50think there were a lot of things where they they do words, they try
- 12:52to say this means something, but I didn't feel anything right. And then
- 12:56they moved on to some some something on an episode that was entertaining, and
- 13:01I was fine, right, Like I was all right, whatever, cool
- 13:03to have such a potentially powerful end to at least to Loki. But then
- 13:09a lot of having in so many we've mentioned it being time was time wasters
- 13:15of things that don't matter. I think that was kind of my things I
- 13:18would have I would have gotten it had to be presented differently for me,
- 13:24it had to be presented differently. I just think that there could have been
- 13:26maybe some different decisions made. And I don't know what you want to say,
- 13:31the writing or what the direction to where like I would and like I
- 13:39said, like it's one thing is like Michael Waldron, you know they it
- 13:41was they wrote both seasons. You know, this is the same writing team
- 13:45throughout the whole thing, so they had the point they were getting to.
- 13:48I don't know, I just feel it was the same. Yeah. I
- 13:52just feel like, so is it the direction? No? I just I
- 13:56don't know, man, I just feel like it felt also say what it
- 14:01is? It felt different to me, and it's a different And I keep
- 14:05calling to the director because This wasn't Kate Herron's. This was I'm not sure
- 14:09who the director was for this season, but yeah, it was. This
- 14:11was a markedly different feel and and like I said when I first fund the
- 14:18first when I watched the first episode, I was like, all right,
- 14:20this is great. It's great. And I remember when I first told Ben
- 14:22that. Ben was just like, nah, bro, nothing fucking happened and
- 14:26back where it started, and I was like, man, what the fuck
- 14:28are you talking about, and like like not arguing, but we were going
- 14:31back and forth quite some time. And then I sat there was like I
- 14:35watched it again. I said, oh shit, he's right, like literally
- 14:39like nothing happened or they were or not so much. Nothing happened. They
- 14:43began where they started right in the very first episode, and then for something
- 14:46that only had six episodes, it was like, damn, precious time wasted.
- 14:50And then it's like they made they waste so much precious time on things
- 14:52that just really don't matter in the end, like low Ki pruning himself there.
- 14:58That scene Loan is so slowly done and it's acting like it's this big
- 15:03moment. A lot of scenes are like that, where things happened very slowly
- 15:09yeah, because like they keep they keep referencing back to it. Did it
- 15:13matter, Like was I trying to say something like you're saving yourself look like
- 15:16and that's saying there were so many of these like pseudo ideas and ideas that
- 15:24maybe didn't translate all the way for me, And again I didn't. It
- 15:28didn't mean a bad series. I thought it was entertaining. I enjoyed my
- 15:31time mostly. I just spoke on things that you know, I just didn't
- 15:37necessarily rock with. Like I knew it wasn't gonna work from the first few
- 15:41episodes that I saw, and I still enjoyed myself. It wasn't like Moonlight,
- 15:45where I knew it wasn't gonna work. And by the end of it,
- 15:46I was like, this felt like a waste of time, And I
- 15:50felt like the writers didn't really when Night was boring, Bro, when I
- 15:54got boring for me, I never probably boring as much as in hindsight when
- 16:00I when I when I went back in hindsight, not when I was watching
- 16:03it. I just you know, we talked about how some stuff was weird,
- 16:06but in hindsight it was boring. Yeah, in hindsight, it's just
- 16:08a waste of time. For me, it was just like it just didn't
- 16:11make sense in the end, and it I don't care at all. So
- 16:18this is better than that. You know, this was a you know,
- 16:22just had the imagery at the end that we both said in our first view
- 16:25that was just absolutely amazing. Some of the best cgs as some of the
- 16:27everything that marvels done recently. Just the imagery and what they he was trying
- 16:30to make Loki represent at that point, and the selfless nature of his action
- 16:37and all that stuff like that. That's not lost upon me that I thought
- 16:40that was fire. It's just the horns growing and being like that ship that
- 16:45went, they were growing out of the same materials he remains thrown and stuff.
- 16:48That shit was hard, but yeah, moving gone. Damn, this
- 16:56is not going to get better. Uh, I think you've got to see
- 17:00movie. I got to see it's getting better. Man. Listen, you're
- 17:07gonna hear differently. You're gonna hear a lot of people say, oh,
- 17:11this is one of the best Disney films and start start no, no,
- 17:15I'll get there, this is one of the best Disney films. And you
- 17:19might hear a smaller minority that'd be like, nah, son, and I'm
- 17:23in a smaller minority. This is about the film. Whish I saw the
- 17:27film today and by the time you see this then Bargo would be up.
- 17:32So don't worry. I'm not gonna spoil it for anybody who's interested. I
- 17:37will just give my take and and I and I wrote a take on it
- 17:42as I was in the theater, like literally as the film was going.
- 17:45That's how strong I felt about it. And I said, you know what,
- 17:47to to get this out now because one like like we did with Ben,
- 17:52like maybe I need to sleep on it. I just don't want to
- 17:53be so harsh, but I will say my honest opinion. I was not
- 17:59a fan. I am a I love animated films, okay, I love,
- 18:04love, love them. I'm not the type of like, oh it's
- 18:07animated for kids. No, Like, yes, it could be something that's
- 18:10kid focused, but I'm usually sitting there first in line, like let's watch
- 18:14it together. So I'm all about that. I'm all about the Pixtars,
- 18:17I'm all about the dream Works, I'm all about all the stuff, and
- 18:18of course the more like upper level adult stuff like you know, DC animation
- 18:22shit like that. Okay, fine, Namona that's Netflix, you know what
- 18:26I'm saying. But anyway, and of course all my notes just deleted.
- 18:33Fantastic, but I felt it was fairly contrived. I felt it was fairly
- 18:41contrived. The film is derived off the idea, literally just the general brand
- 18:49idea of when you wish upon a star, it's gonna be Disney's one hundredth
- 18:53anniversary, right, So someone in some room somewhere said, hey, let's
- 18:59make a story using that as a catalyst. Right, when you wish upon
- 19:03the star makes no difference. You are like the idea of dreams and and
- 19:06and that being your heart and all this other stuff. So they came up
- 19:08with this story. I don't I need to go read more of this is
- 19:11based on like there was a book written about it, or just just this
- 19:15is a treatment. But point is, that was the basis. And what
- 19:19it ended up with to me was a like a poor attempt at making a
- 19:30meaningful Disney movie that has been done a million times better by so many other
- 19:33films. This film, this film referenced all like like like old school Disney
- 19:42films, and it was blatant references too, and some that were more subtle.
- 19:47Great whatever, but I felt nothing. I did not connect with the
- 19:52characters at all, Like even the main one, there was like most of
- 19:56the characters not at all. Let me not say all most of the characters
- 19:57I didn't really connect with. I didn't really get into it or even like
- 20:03smile or laugh until like well deep into the movie. And even then it
- 20:07was like twice, I gotta keep prefacing this, I love this type of
- 20:12stuff, y'all. So I was supremely disappointed in just how it just felt
- 20:18formula leg and it felt very rope to me, and it was it was
- 20:26so I would say this. It was just so many things that was just
- 20:30so absolutely silly, Like it was just like if you're a kid, you're
- 20:33a kid's will and I'm talking about like three years old on up, they
- 20:37probably will love this. And I'm not saying that you have to be that
- 20:41age love because there was people who were adults who you'll see their reviews.
- 20:44They're gonna say, oh, this was so heartwarming, thiss with this and
- 20:47that, and good for you, that's great. I didn't feel that heart.
- 20:51I didn't feel that heart. I felt corporate, all right. Before
- 20:53I asked one question, I asked the first question, what did you enjoy
- 20:57abody the villain. The villain, Oh well, I gotta be I gotta
- 21:04tell too too. But I liked the villain was actually like for me going
- 21:10back to the days of true really Disney villains. The villain was across for
- 21:15me between Ja'afar and Ursula and chewing the fucking scenery at his best. Chrispine
- 21:22did that, he did. I actually did enjoy it like like and I
- 21:26and it was telegraphs. It was a villain so early. And that's the
- 21:29thing. There's so many things like super telegraph, especially like the singing.
- 21:33There's lots and lots of singing, and some of the shit is just so
- 21:37like silly. It's like, why are we doing this? What about the
- 21:41animation? The animation? I did also like the animation. Those are two
- 21:45things I liked. Villain animation, the animation. I need to know more
- 21:49about the process. For me, that was the most important thing about this
- 21:52film. I need to really know what process they used for it's because I
- 21:56think it was a lot of hand drawn stuff, but it was also like
- 21:59cell shady and there were also it was like a mixture and I just haven't
- 22:04seen that animation or at at least in that combination, Like, I haven't
- 22:08seen something as unique looking like this since like Spider Verse, and even Spider
- 22:15Verse is hard to compare it to because Spider Verse has like literally twenty thirty
- 22:18different animation styles in one but just as far as this unique look, and
- 22:22I mentioned just even going back to like the original style of hand drawing,
- 22:26it was even stuff that I saw I was watching, I'm like, yo,
- 22:29is this mocap? Like there had to be a mixture of things going
- 22:33on. So there were certain scenes where I was like, Yo, this
- 22:34shit looks fucking gorgeous. So from the way it looks, I was with
- 22:40it, you know, I was very interested and as I said, I
- 22:41want to learn more about that process, that behind the scenes of how they
- 22:44made it. And again the villain, I fucked with the villain. Thought
- 22:48the villain was cool. But otherwise, like I was just like, Okay,
- 22:55it feels like one. It feels like that everybody is doing a lot
- 23:00more the combination of combination of animation now because combination, because they got the
- 23:12between you know, Spider Verse, Pnemona Puss Some Boots, which is one
- 23:18of my all time favorite films. Now put some Boots to the last wish,
- 23:22it's absolutely amazing. If you haven't seen it yet, everybody's doing that
- 23:26and I love it because you know, it's a shake up and it's just
- 23:30fresh and it's working. So the story, I guess ain't doing it.
- 23:33But I'm glad you like Chris Pine. I'm glad you like the animation.
- 23:37And that was my last comment is that it feels like this might be the
- 23:41what is that rady player goal of Ready Player one? Yeah, ready player
- 23:48one? Well, you know, you know, this actually might do good
- 23:49because like I said, it actually is like I could see kids, like
- 23:52there were kids. I'm sure it was a media. Yeah, it was
- 23:56all mein screen. There were kids in there because you know, when when
- 23:59the rating is lower, though, the kids can come in and and they
- 24:02were having you know, they were laughing at a lot of stuff because it's
- 24:03a lot of the silliness, you know, just see the stupid shit that's
- 24:06happening where it's all right cool, but it's like and I said, and
- 24:08the reason why, and like I said, I'm I'm I really hope this
- 24:12is not coming off harsh. I'm just trying to be honest and rounded.
- 24:15And what I'm saying maybe it does sound large, but like, how can
- 24:18you know it's a Disney movie. It's a minute. Disney has been having,
- 24:23has had fire movies for many, many years. Okay, fire,
- 24:29I mean things more unconto Moana. You could talk about the Frozen films like
- 24:34shit, that's high caliber to me, right, you know what I'm saying,
- 24:38And I mean Pixar high fucking Cowbird DreamWorks high fucking Like a lot of
- 24:44that stuff you see is just the story is there and you feel the heart
- 24:48and it's like, okay, oh, y'all got y'all, y'all, y'all
- 24:52brought me into this like right away, I will connect. And I felt
- 24:56nothing. You never feel like Ready Player one. Yeah, And because that's
- 25:02how I felt with Ready Player one, Like it was all kinds of references
- 25:04to stuff I grew up on and I felt nothing. I felt absolutely nothing
- 25:10from that first Well, I think I like Ready Pay one better than you.
- 25:12But I also say I don't remember a thing about it. Besides all
- 25:15the random chapters, I don't remember anything about it. I was just like,
- 25:21ooh, Sonic, you know, so this person that person, like,
- 25:26yeah, that's a that's like, that's not a movie. That's a
- 25:29bunch of commercials. It is, and I mean this this kind of and
- 25:33perhaps again this is fitting for the theme the hundredth anniversary, you know.
- 25:37Yeah, they got a stunt. They they touch on like like literally seven
- 25:41dwarves, you know, Cinderella, every every classic Disney movie is reference in
- 25:47this way somehow. But to me, it's not done so it could be
- 25:51done better. I don't know, I feel you like, I think Record
- 25:53Ralph did a great job with you know, reference to Disney joints. Oh
- 25:59Disney Record did what yes? Yes? And also I was saying the better
- 26:02video game movie, too, right, the better video game reference movie,
- 26:06oh easily easy. Yeah, So what I recommended listen wish wasn't for me,
- 26:11but I know it's for somebody. If you're a big Broadway singing in
- 26:17the first forty five seconds type thing, big, that's you, it's all
- 26:21you boo. And again I do think children would like this. There's nothing
- 26:25particularly scary in this besides the villain just being like really really mean. But
- 26:30you'll be fine. But again, it wasn't for me. I think it
- 26:33is for somebody. So there you are, there you go. All right,
- 26:38let's see before we get out of here tonight we do you know,
- 26:42like we said this the holidays, everybody sitting at home with the family and
- 26:47everything, the family, you know, so we wanted to give you some
- 26:49recommendations, talk about some things we've been watching, you know, even you
- 26:53know, I got some actually comics I copped. You know, we've been
- 26:56I've been reading again and you know, it's a few things we've been talk
- 26:59about, you know. But see, first off, I did want to
- 27:03talk about We just recorded an episode that you've probably seen by now or heard
- 27:07by now, where we watch the trailer for Blue Eyes Samurai, and I
- 27:12really want to give a strong, strong recommendation to this show. It's on
- 27:18Netflix right now. All episodes are out. It's really incredible. It tells
- 27:22the story of a blue eye Samurai, a young woman born in Japan to
- 27:29a Japanese mother, and she's born of sexual assault by one of four white
- 27:34men, and she goes as she grows up, she becomes the samurai herself
- 27:41and has to hide her blue eyes from the world and the fact that she's
- 27:45a woman, you know, because she's a samurai, and so she does
- 27:48all this stuff so she can go on a revenge mission against these men.
- 27:52And that's the base of the story and it's extremely fire. I was as
- 27:57soon as I heard the premise. And and the storyline comes from Michael Green
- 28:02and his wife whose name, once again I cannot remember, but they're both
- 28:04the co creators and it comes from this when she had a child, she
- 28:10was relieved that her child came out with blue eyes, and because of that,
- 28:15she was like, Yo, what the fuck, I gotta examine myself,
- 28:18I gotta check myself. I gotta figure out where this comes from.
- 28:21And so that's where the genesis of the story comes from. And I really
- 28:25love what they've done with it. Like we were just talking about animation,
- 28:26that animation is insane. Every fight that I've seen so far, I've seen
- 28:32the first three episodes. Every fight scene is like either a different setting or
- 28:37different styles that I've read some articles where they're talking about how the main characters
- 28:41and animation is like and her fight styles are a bunch of different styles.
- 28:47And his wife's name. His wife's name is Amber Noizumi. Yes, bitch,
- 28:51shout out to Amber no Zumi. Who did that? Michael Green,
- 28:55y'all both did that on this The idea is brilliant. The story is brilliant,
- 28:59a brilliant everything about it. Voice appings so far, incredible references,
- 29:04all the history you're getting of Japanese culture. Just well done. Man,
- 29:11I'm loving it, like for real. Definitely peep this as soon as possible.
- 29:15Yeah, all episodes are, you can watch it. I would not
- 29:18say this ain't the family watch like wish. This shit's hella violent? Hello
- 29:22adult? Yeah, I don't want to kind every episode starts with the Netflix
- 29:26strong Central situations intends violence. You know all that. Every episode I've seen
- 29:32so far starts with always Always, Every every problem in violence is listened at
- 29:38the beginning of this. So yeah, I would not say it's for kids,
- 29:44but I would say it's for people who enjoy great story and everything else
- 29:48here far. Yeah, I want to recommend Castlevania noc Turn if. First
- 29:56of all, I y'all haven't seen the Castlevania series. I'm a big fan
- 29:59of Zabini series on Netflix. Right in general, shout out to Addie Shankar
- 30:03all that Casslvinian not turned this version of the it's a spin off of the
- 30:08original Casavania series. It focuses on the French during the French Revolusion, right,
- 30:15and the greatest thing about it is that there's fucking black people in this,
- 30:18So it's great. It focuses on one of the you have my curiosity,
- 30:26but now yes, I know, Candy Land, Okay. It focuses
- 30:32on the Senate of the Belmont you know, the famous Belmont family, the
- 30:37vampire slaying family, Richter Belmont, Richter Okay, Richter, yes, okay,
- 30:47played by Edward Bluemel. The the black characters. The black woman character
- 30:52she is, I believe they came. She came over from Haiti, if
- 30:56I'm not mistaken, over to France. But her her name is. Her
- 31:00character's name is a Nette played by Thusu and Bethu. And if you don't
- 31:06know who that is, if you saw a woman king, uh, the
- 31:10breakout starret to me a woman king. Thus so she she she plays a
- 31:15net. And then there is a charatterin Maria and Renard played by Pixie Davies.
- 31:18There's a bunch of more. There's more people in this. One of
- 31:22my favorite characters is paid by your boy, Zon mclarnen of of both Hawkeye
- 31:30Echo and Reservoir Reservation Dog Fames. Reservation Dog Fames, you play big.
- 31:38He plays a character named All Rocks and when I say that's again one of
- 31:41my favorite characters in that series because of the character design, the character story
- 31:48and the arc and all the information you find out about it, like just
- 31:51insane and Cassavania, like if you like that whole macabre maybe slight mcuod,
- 31:59but you know, like the vampire stories, you know, vampire slang and
- 32:02all that stuff, and again set in a period time. I mean,
- 32:06it's good from that pertective, but what goes harder is again the animation,
- 32:10the story, the character acting, and the fucking action. My god,
- 32:15my god. And I like that because, like I mentioned, you know,
- 32:20having black characters, they also reference African folklore. They also reference you
- 32:24know, like the power of ancestors, you know, things that you saw
- 32:29a lot in like places like Black Panther and s shes like that. Like
- 32:31they they pull that into this and it's just so fucking well done. It's
- 32:37so so good, Like I've been it's been I think it's been like over
- 32:40a week now since I finished her, two weeks now since I finished it,
- 32:43and I'm still thinking about this damn show. It's so fucking good.
- 32:47Oh. For those who who love Pea Valley Alarica Johnson. She is also
- 32:52in that she is the voice actor of Zebeth. No, Notabeth, she's
- 32:58the voice actor of Urzabeth. Like main bitch, which is I forgot her
- 33:01name? Oh Drotha. Yeah, so listen listen, not her main bitch.
- 33:08No, that's her main bitch. Bro, you need to watch this
- 33:12ship. When you see Trota Ni No, like this show is every episode
- 33:17I'm like, nigga, like it's it's it's on point. Ben. I
- 33:21know you said you try watching the first Castlovania series and you wasn't really into
- 33:24it. Try this one, please, No, I am. I am
- 33:28got me interested. Now you got my interest in the fact that it's not
- 33:30connected to the first one. So because like I said, I watched like
- 33:34two or three episodes of the first one, did nothing for me. One
- 33:37of my best friends like it's one of the best shows ever. I was
- 33:38like, yeah, whatever, be I don't care. It's one of them.
- 33:42It's one of the fucking best shows. Well, I'm gonna try with
- 33:44this one. You know now, like I say, blue Eye Samurai is
- 33:46running the game right now and animation you know these for series, So if
- 33:51it's up there with that, you know, I will and everything you said
- 33:54so far has me quite interested. The ancestors, Black People, Vamp one
- 34:00of my favorite things. I was meaning to watch Lost Boys over during holiday,
- 34:05I mean during the Halloween season, and I didn't, So I gotta
- 34:07watch it at some point again this year because it's just one of my favorite
- 34:09films ever, I love pretty much. I mean, I don't know a
- 34:14vampire movie I've ever seen that I really disliked. For that matter, you
- 34:16know, well I don't. I just I really don't think you're gonna dislike
- 34:21this. While it's good to have that Caslvania understanding, like you don't necessarily
- 34:27need to have watched the first like any of the first few, like the
- 34:30original or the spinoffs, because like, like the history is there, and
- 34:34like, yes, you'll have a deeper understanding, but it's not required it
- 34:37really is it. And also, and I can tell you that for sure
- 34:39because someone of that stuff. I forgot even what happened in every last Caslvania
- 34:45show that I've seen or episode that scene, But it wouldn't matter, Like
- 34:47you'll be fine, okay, cool, You'll be able to the end,
- 34:52probably won't won't be as monumental to you, like the finalite as it is
- 34:55to me of someone who's seen all the all the sound, but it's it
- 35:00matters, trust, all right, I'll check it. I'll give it,
- 35:04you know, I'll give it a spind Another one I wanted to recommend it.
- 35:07I finally got into that. I know you're a huge fan of and
- 35:10I'm mad late to this is The Bear on Hulu. And yeah, I
- 35:17know I'm dumb late. I've actually peeped it before, I just you know,
- 35:21never really sat down and watched it. And now I'm starting it,
- 35:24and I know everyone you know who's seen it loves it. I just finished
- 35:29the pilot and I thought the pilot was fucking incredible, And so I just
- 35:32want everyone, if you haven't seen it, don't watch it, and if
- 35:36you haven't seen it, don't spoil it for me just yet, because I
- 35:37love that shit so far and I want to get through it all. Ben,
- 35:42The Bear is I mean, it's not cinema, right, this is
- 35:45television, Like you know that that this is cinema. I mean this is
- 35:49television, like this is like one of the masters, Like these shows like
- 35:53this are like masterclasses in storytelling and writing, like it's it's just so beautifully
- 35:59done and it's heartbreaking, and it's and it's very compelling. It's so compelling
- 36:06and also from a personal standpoint, like it's very authentic and real. I've
- 36:10worked in a restaurant for like three years, right, and one of those
- 36:15high level type restaurants where like all the ship that you're you're you've seen and
- 36:20going to see in the bear, like where they say how that whole operation
- 36:22works in the background, how people are interact with each other. Man,
- 36:27that ship is for real. That's just for real. Yeah. And I
- 36:30work at a wedding venue now where we have a kitchen staff and I'm with
- 36:37them every week setting up. You know, I call everyone chef. They
- 36:39call me chef or DJ you know, yeah chef. Yes, yeah,
- 36:44So I see it and hear it every week, and I love them.
- 36:46So I'm fully on this and I love any great TV like that, you
- 36:51know, when that's me. I watch a lot of pilots and shows and
- 36:53read a lot of pilots, and so when I if the pilot don't give
- 36:58me, I just you know, it's like, well this, you know,
- 37:00every like this is pretty sold. But the Bear's probably where I was
- 37:04like, oh no, this is fucking incredible. I gotta watch a lot
- 37:06more of this and one another one we talked about before. But you know,
- 37:12I still have two episodes left. But when you talk about great storytelling
- 37:15and just fantastic master classes, we got to mention Reservation Dogs, Yes,
- 37:21because Lord have mercy. Yeah, just absolutely perfect. I think. I
- 37:27think that's like three seasons of perfection. And even with two episodes left,
- 37:30and people have already told me that the last two episodes are gonna have me
- 37:32bawling, just like I've cried a pretty much every episode of the last Yeah,
- 37:38pretty much every episode either tears of joy or tears of pain, every
- 37:44episode of the last season of Reservation Dogs, and even before that there were
- 37:50episodes you know, through the first I thought the ending of season two was
- 37:53damned near perfect, and I'm even saying why they were gonna do a third
- 37:57season, And then the third season has been breaking my heart with every episode,
- 38:00and I'm like, Okay, this is why you do a third season.
- 38:02Yeah, Like, when you know you could do shit like that,
- 38:06I mean, that's when you're on top of your game. Shout outs to
- 38:08everyone involved in that, from the writers to the directors, to the adding
- 38:13to everyone of all, I hope great things come to all of you,
- 38:16because you all deserve it. Facts, man, Yeah, I know there
- 38:22was something else you wanted to talk about, right there Wasn't there another show
- 38:25or something, you know, Caslvania? No, I mean there's other shows
- 38:30that I've enjoyed, but no, really like Castlevania, is it. That's
- 38:32the one. That's the one that if you haven't don if you do not
- 38:37have the ship in your queue, like I'm stuttering because it's so fucking incredible.
- 38:39If you do not have the ship in your queue, add that ship
- 38:43a SAP, sit your fucking ass down and watch this shit. It's so
- 38:47good. Yeah. I'll say the same about Blue Eyed Blue Eyes Samurai.
- 38:53I know people have been recommending Stavenger's reign. I don't know what the fuck
- 38:58that is, but I don't know, but people have been recommending that.
- 39:00You can look it up. Also, just this joint I want to peep
- 39:05on Netflix, Wounded massacos in it be fifteen Okay, Okay, it's animated,
- 39:14Okay, okay. A crew of the remaining crew of a damage interstellar
- 39:20freighter ship find themselves stranded on a beautiful, yet unforgiving alien planet, where
- 39:23they must survive long enough to escape or be rescued. As the survivors struggle
- 39:28to locate their downship and missing crewmates, their new home reveals a hostile world
- 39:32allowed to thrive without human interference. All right, what's that on? It
- 39:38is? Want? I want to say Netflix, but I could be wrong.
- 39:43Oh HBO Max, Okay, HBO Max, Yeah, I might,
- 39:49I can't. I can't hold you. The premise doesn't really strike me,
- 39:52but I will see it based on who's in this. Let's see. I
- 39:57think I saw the animation and it looked behind the interesting that I wasn't like,
- 40:00I want to watch this. I mean only because that story has been
- 40:04done many time, not to say that you can't watch the story with the
- 40:06same premise and get something out of it. That's just just just just to
- 40:09answer why. I was just like, okay, cool about the premise.
- 40:12But yeah, pretty much. But I watched this, I mean because people
- 40:15are making noise, right, So I've heard you have asked us about it,
- 40:21so yeah over the holiday. Yeah, we talked about some other stuff
- 40:27on the other episode, so you can keep that as well. I do
- 40:30want to do a real quick comics all up, comics go. That's even
- 40:39better that one. That reverb on there, yeah, with that reverb,
- 40:43but the whole fuck up the first time makes it even better. So yeah,
- 40:45I've been back. I mean, I've you know, stayed reading like
- 40:50you know, of course, all the mainstream stuff like X Men, Red,
- 40:52Immortal X Men. They're coming to the end of the Cocohen era.
- 40:55I've been loving every issue, this whole war on More that's going on,
- 41:00and that's been read. It's just been I mean every issue, y'all.
- 41:05Al Ewing is just doing God's work. You know, He's been doing it
- 41:08throughout Sword and now on Ed been Red, but this Mars War, every
- 41:15issue it's just been like, Yo, this shit so lit. And then
- 41:19over an Immortal X Men you got them dealing with the fallout from the big
- 41:22Orchest attack and that's been great. I'm really sad to see this per Coning
- 41:27era end, and I think both Karing Gilling and Ewing are leaving X Men.
- 41:34Oh shit, we're Yeah. I don't know if he's taking over who
- 41:37I can trust after that. So I mean, listen, I'm always gonna
- 41:43kudos whoever else gets it, because you must you must have got it for
- 41:45a reason. But damn, I mean, it's like they had Hickman who
- 41:49did this thing, you know, and started this pre coning era, and
- 41:51then gilling you know a lot of yeah, a lot of people gilling Ewing.
- 41:57A lot of people held it down after them. But we'll see,
- 42:00we'll see what happens with That's man. But I've been loving it. But
- 42:02I've been finally getting to check, I mean, catch up on some independent
- 42:07joints, which I always love. And I want to give a bit shout
- 42:09out to the Oddly Pedestrian Life of Christopher Chaos. But the author is I
- 42:15think it's James Tenian and art is done by a good friend of the show
- 42:21and friend of mine, Isaac Goodheart. Yes, The Oddly Pedestrian Life of
- 42:27Christopher Chaos follows a teenager Christopher Chaos, who is basically a teenage mad scientist,
- 42:32and I do mean mad scientists in the vein of insane, doing weird
- 42:37experiments that are going to lead to horror and pain. And during his he
- 42:45basically is his kid and he's trying to like submerge that side of himself throughout
- 42:51his life. And then during at the beginning of the series, he starts
- 42:54meeting other kids at his high school. He finds out that the boy he
- 43:00has a crush on happens to be a werewolf, and he sees this boy
- 43:04get killed by a group of white ghosts basically you would call him. And
- 43:09that's basically the first five pages of the series. And from there against he
- 43:15meets a Frankenstein version, he meets a vampire, he meets a young woman,
- 43:21he meets the Legendary Monsters version. Well there's that, and then there's
- 43:24this young woman who has cat spirits floating around her. I'm not sure what
- 43:30she's supposed to reference. She's not like an eggician. It might be some
- 43:36Egyptian god types. Submit yeah, like set because it feels like sat met
- 43:39from breaking the divine. It gives me that same feeling of especially the glowing
- 43:45cat imagery around her. So could be maybe she's the Mummy, you know.
- 43:50I guess that would make sense. But very interesting. The first four
- 43:54is Shoes have Me Hooked. I was like pissed off. Oh I think
- 43:58the fish issue just dropped today. Well, whenever we're recording is right now,
- 44:02November fifteenth. This just dropped today. And I was mad when I
- 44:06finished the fourth issue because it was like, oh, I shouldn't be reading
- 44:07this in trade even because this is that good. But the single issues are
- 44:13out right now, so make sure you check that out. Also want to
- 44:15give a shout out to Tales of Risha's which I have not read yet,
- 44:19but it's by Hugo Canto. It's a graphic novel African heroes and you know,
- 44:24African imagery and mythology with the Arisias, so that's why I picked it
- 44:29up. And also less but definitely not least well, Star Signs from Saladin
- 44:35a Med is out right now. Star Signs is a book from Image Comics
- 44:39and it features a group of characters who come together because all of them have
- 44:44powers related to their star sign you know, so shut up, yep,
- 44:50the zodiac and all that. So shout out to Saladin. Another friend of
- 44:52the show. Is that similar to Scorpio. It is shout out Scorpio.
- 44:57Yeah, we got Storpio and Star Signs, you know, to zodiac books
- 45:01out there that you can check out both of them. And now the one
- 45:05that I really want to give a shout out because I've been waiting to fucking
- 45:07read this book is A Righteous Thirst for Vengeance by Rick Reminder legendary author and
- 45:15another friend of the show, Andre Lima Arajo, Brazilian who I've probably butchered
- 45:22your last name, and Andrea. I'm so sorry about that. But Andre
- 45:25was somebody I found out through Wicked and Divine. He illustrated a couple issues
- 45:30of Wicked and Divine. He's a Brazilian artist. I want to if I
- 45:35I'm pretty hundredsent sure about that. And he's amazing, Like I knew Andre
- 45:40was amazing from Wicked and Vine, but a righteous thirst for vengeance is I'm
- 45:47I bought the oversized draphic novel, which I recommend you do. It's forty
- 45:51bucks and it is an oversized you get it's beautiful, Like every page Andre's
- 45:58art is so in need. He eats his oversized treatment, So I would
- 46:01recommend buying the forty dollars oversized version of it. Okay, And I really
- 46:06can't even tell you exactly what it's about so far. It features this main
- 46:09character who is an Asian man and he it's like it's it's kind of a
- 46:15mystery how it's jetting into it. But it starts off and he's just You're
- 46:19like, okay, it's going about following this drive in his daily life,
- 46:22and you're learning things about him, and then he at one point pulls out
- 46:27a dark web connection and lugs onto this assassin's gill basically website, and and
- 46:34that's and that's all I really want to say about it. You know,
- 46:37I would say the arts amazing. Rick Reminder is you know a legendary comic
- 46:40book writer who's written too many series to name, but if you you know,
- 46:45you know the name, and he's a beast and Andre is killing it
- 46:50on the art. And it's an interesting story. It's quite violent from the
- 46:52jump. You know, the name of it is a righteous thirst for vengeance,
- 46:55so you know which, again, it is definitely a noir story.
- 47:00It feels like hard boiled, like a you know, Korean or Japanese no
- 47:05or you know something. It looks like something that would definitely be a series.
- 47:09I would love to see it, So make sure you pick it up.
- 47:13And that's it for comments like cop right now, Okay, that's what's
- 47:16uping yep, job, Yeah, thank you. This was actually a really
- 47:22good bonus episode. Yes, and I'm I mean it's not very bonus.

- 51:52went to. I'm calling him Kenneth, but Kenny, my dude. You
