- 0:17Speaker 2: Fox Sports Radio.
- 0:20Speaker 1: It's a great day because we get to speak to
- 0:22Speaker 1: Tim Kirchin. What a great day baseball is right around
- 0:26Speaker 1: the corner that is fantastic. Is this a great game
- 0:29Speaker 1: or what? That's the podcast he does with his son.
- 0:33Speaker 3: Tim for years working at ESPN. We take your word
- 0:36Speaker 3: as gospel with everything baseball. But one time you said
- 0:39Speaker 3: something that is the only time I've ever disagreed with you.
- 0:43Speaker 3: And I'm gonna give you a chance right now.
- 0:44Speaker 4: You better be.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Scare Mikey Hey, I'm telling you right now, be Campbell.
- 0:47Speaker 1: I side with Tim Kirchin. I don't care what good
- 0:49Speaker 1: argument is. I side with Kirchin.
- 0:51Speaker 3: They were ranking the best pitches in baseball, and ahead
- 0:56Speaker 3: of Mariano Rivera's cutter, you had ubaldo him as his fastball,
- 1:01Speaker 3: and I just want to know right now, was that
- 1:04Speaker 3: a prisoner of the moment thing? Or is that or
- 1:07Speaker 3: does Tim Kirchin still believe you Baldo him and as
- 1:09Speaker 3: his heavy fastball was better than Marianna rivers you on
- 1:12Speaker 3: the spot to me, Oh my.
- 1:13Speaker 5: God, well, I must have been drunk when I said that, because.
- 1:18Speaker 4: It is You're never drunk.
- 1:20Speaker 6: Baldo Jmenez.
- 1:21Speaker 5: Baldo Jimenez had an amazing first half of a season
- 1:25Speaker 5: years ago and people were actually saying, he has a
- 1:29Speaker 5: pitch that nobody has ever seen before and ever thrown before,
- 1:34Speaker 5: to which I was sitting with Oral Herscheizer at the time,
- 1:38Speaker 5: who knows a little bit about pitching. He looked at
- 1:40Speaker 5: me and he goes, Tim, there is no pitch that
- 1:43Speaker 5: is being thrown today that.
- 1:45Speaker 6: Has never been thrown before.
- 1:47Speaker 5: So if I said that I was I was wrong
- 1:51Speaker 5: by one hundred miles.
- 1:52Speaker 6: That guy had great stuff.
- 1:54Speaker 5: But Mariano's cutter is arguably the greatest pitch because it's
- 1:59Speaker 5: really the only pitch she threw. He's the greatest closer
- 2:02Speaker 5: of all time. There is not a close second. I
- 2:05Speaker 5: will tell you though, that Paul Richards the one of
- 2:08Speaker 5: the great baseball men of all time. I really got
- 2:10Speaker 5: to know him in eighty two when he was with
- 2:13Speaker 5: the Rangers as the assistant general manager. He told me
- 2:17Speaker 5: that Hoyt Wilhelm's knuckleball was the greatest pitch in the
- 2:23Speaker 5: history of baseball, because he said the umpire couldn't call it,
- 2:28Speaker 5: the catcher couldn't catch it, and the hitter couldn't hit
- 2:32Speaker 5: it when Hoyt Wilhelm threw his great knuckleball.
- 2:35Speaker 6: But since I never saw that like I.
- 2:38Speaker 5: Saw Mariano's, I will say Mariano's cutter is the best
- 2:42Speaker 5: pitch in the history of baseball. I stand corrected. I
- 2:46Speaker 5: don't ever remember saying that. If I did, I apologize,
- 2:50Speaker 5: I mean this vulture. I hey, Jesus, he said it
- 2:52Speaker 5: in the moment. Who cares?
- 2:53Speaker 7: I mean, tim, When was the last time you were hammered?
- 2:55Speaker 4: Have you ever been hammered?
- 3:00Speaker 6: Yes, of course I have.
- 3:01Speaker 5: I'm a grown man, but it's been a long time.
- 3:04Speaker 5: It doesn't It doesn't do me any good. I weigh
- 3:07Speaker 5: one hundred and forty pounds. I can't I can't hold anything.
- 3:11Speaker 5: I get buzzed very easily, which is why I don't
- 3:14Speaker 5: drink very often, because it doesn't do me any good.
- 3:16Speaker 5: But and my voice goes to a different octave when
- 3:19Speaker 5: I get that way, and it's already at a preposterously
- 3:23Speaker 5: high octave to begin with, so I try to stay
- 3:26Speaker 5: away from it.
- 3:28Speaker 4: Tim.
- 3:28Speaker 8: First off, I just want to say I love you.
- 3:30Speaker 8: I love baseball, consider myself in the same mold of
- 3:34Speaker 8: just somebody who loves baseball. Growing up, my girlfriend asked
- 3:38Speaker 8: me what did I want to do on my birthday?
- 3:40Speaker 8: I told her I want tickets to the World Baseball
- 3:42Speaker 8: Classic and I want to watch sixty one. Where would
- 3:45Speaker 8: you say sixty one ranks as a baseball movie because,
- 3:49Speaker 8: in my opinion, one of the most underrated bass great quests.
- 3:52Speaker 5: Yeah, all right, it is the second greatest baseball movie
- 3:56Speaker 5: of all time. Wow, Field of Dreams, Dreams this one
- 4:01Speaker 5: and always will be. And without sounding corny about this,
- 4:05Speaker 5: that story was about a father and a son, and
- 4:08Speaker 5: nobody loved his father more than I did.
- 4:11Speaker 6: He taught me.
- 4:12Speaker 5: Everything I needed to know about baseball and everything else.
- 4:16Speaker 5: I took my father to see that movie. We cried
- 4:19Speaker 5: like babies. I cry every time I watch it. So
- 4:22Speaker 5: that will always be the best baseball movie of all
- 4:26Speaker 5: time for me. But sixty one was tremendous because of
- 4:30Speaker 5: its attention to detail. So speaking of Hoit Wilhelm, Billy
- 4:34Speaker 5: Crystal God Tom Candiotti to play Hoit Wilhelm in the movie.
- 4:41Speaker 6: And Tom Candiotti, a.
- 4:43Speaker 5: Knuckleball pitcher, just been released and he was pissed about
- 4:48Speaker 5: just being released. So he comes to the movie shooting
- 4:51Speaker 5: and Billy says to him that Tom, I want this
- 4:55Speaker 5: has to be the most genuine movie. So I want
- 4:57Speaker 5: you to throw your best knuckle ball, no matter what.
- 5:02Speaker 5: So you know, Billy, Tommy Zaane whatever his name is
- 5:05Speaker 5: in the show, I forget which one was Mickey and
- 5:08Speaker 5: which was Roger.
- 5:09Speaker 6: Sorry about that. I love that movie.
- 5:11Speaker 5: So Tom Candiotti is now throwing his knuckleball as they're filming,
- 5:17Speaker 5: and the first fifty knuckleballs that he throws, Tommy Jane,
- 5:23Speaker 5: I'm sorry, couldn't hit it.
- 5:25Speaker 6: He couldn't hit it. He couldn't even come close because
- 5:29Speaker 6: neither co you guys, and neither could I. It's a knuckleball.
- 5:32Speaker 5: So Billy has to come to the mound. Tommy Jane,
- 5:36Speaker 5: I think that's his name.
- 5:37Speaker 6: Sorry, Thomas Jane played Mantle.
- 5:39Speaker 5: Yes, sorry, So he comes to the Billy comes to
- 5:43Speaker 5: the mound during the filming and says, Tom, Okay, we
- 5:45Speaker 5: have a problem here. It's called It's called tape we
- 5:50Speaker 5: don't have enough tape for you to keep throwing knuckleball,
- 5:52Speaker 5: so throw like a softer knuckleball.
- 5:55Speaker 6: One that he might hit. So he throws like twenty
- 5:58Speaker 6: of those.
- 5:58Speaker 5: He still can't hit it, and he hits Tommy Jane
- 6:01Speaker 5: with a pitch and knocks, and now the entire crew
- 6:06Speaker 5: has run out, thinking that Tom Candiotty killed.
- 6:10Speaker 6: The star of the show because he hit him with
- 6:12Speaker 6: a pitch.
- 6:13Speaker 5: So Tommy Jane is lying there and tom Candiotty looks
- 6:17Speaker 5: down at him and says, I threw that pitch at
- 6:21Speaker 5: fifty miles an hour. And Tommy Jane said that means
- 6:25Speaker 5: I should get up right, And he said, yeah, you
- 6:27Speaker 5: should get up now. So he saved the day by
- 6:33Speaker 5: throwing a softer knuckleball, but he never did put the
- 6:36Speaker 5: ball in play. All they needed was a ball put
- 6:40Speaker 5: in play, and he couldn't do it. So finally Billy Crystal,
- 6:43Speaker 5: using the magic of photography, rolled the ball up the
- 6:46Speaker 5: first base line and made it look like he actually
- 6:50Speaker 5: hit it when he really didn't. That's another reason I
- 6:54Speaker 5: love sixty one because it was just so authentic.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Wow, what an answer for Taylor. I mean, Tim, you
- 7:03Speaker 1: love baseball more than anyone. I know you care about
- 7:06Speaker 1: this game. You know the game better than anyone, and
- 7:09Speaker 1: I'm certain that the thought of a workstopage drives you crazy.
- 7:13Speaker 7: But are we headed towards well?
- 7:15Speaker 1: Let me ask it this way, Ted, do you think
- 7:17Speaker 1: there should be a salary cap at Major League Baseball?
- 7:20Speaker 1: And do you think we'll ever arrive at a place
- 7:22Speaker 1: where we have a salary cap in Major League Baseball?
- 7:25Speaker 6: All Right?
- 7:26Speaker 5: I don't think we're gonna have a salary cap anytime soon.
- 7:32Speaker 5: If you can prove to me that a salary cap
- 7:35Speaker 5: will make the game better than I will be on board.
- 7:38Speaker 6: But I'm not sold on that, Okay.
- 7:42Speaker 5: Stu Gott's I covered the eighty one strike that was
- 7:46Speaker 5: forty five years ago, and we're still arguing pretty much about.
- 7:51Speaker 6: The same thing.
- 7:52Speaker 5: Yes, and if the owners think that the players are
- 7:55Speaker 5: going to agree to a salary cap, they are mistake.
- 8:01Speaker 5: And if they hold out until they get a salary cap,
- 8:04Speaker 5: we will definitely have a work stoppage in twenty twenty seven,
- 8:08Speaker 5: and who.
- 8:09Speaker 6: Knows how long it could last.
- 8:11Speaker 5: I spoke to someone the other day who would probably
- 8:14Speaker 5: know better than a lot of people where we are,
- 8:17Speaker 5: and he said, I have never seen the two sides
- 8:20Speaker 5: this far apart with you know, eight, ten eleven months
- 8:26Speaker 5: away from where.
- 8:27Speaker 6: We have to get to.
- 8:29Speaker 5: So I was very discouraged to hear that I want
- 8:33Speaker 5: no part of a work stoppage. Baseball should want no
- 8:36Speaker 5: part of a work stoppage. But at the moment it
- 8:40Speaker 5: is not looking good.
- 8:42Speaker 8: Tim Nobody would argue I don't think that the Dodgers
- 8:44Speaker 8: are the best team on paper this season as we
- 8:47Speaker 8: get closer to opening Day, But who would you argue
- 8:50Speaker 8: as the second best team in baseball?
- 8:53Speaker 6: That is a great question.
- 8:55Speaker 5: Yes, I think the Phillies have a chance to be really,
- 9:00Speaker 5: really good, but a few things have to turn that
- 9:02Speaker 5: as Zach Wheeler has to come back earlier in the
- 9:04Speaker 5: expected and then be great the whole year. That's a
- 9:07Speaker 5: lot to ask. I'm not sure there is a great
- 9:11Speaker 5: team in the American League, but I just I just
- 9:16Speaker 5: saw Seattle and the Mariners pitching is so so good
- 9:20Speaker 5: starting pitching especially, and they added to their lineup, so
- 9:24Speaker 5: they might be the best team in the American League.
- 9:27Speaker 5: And I just saw the Tigers, and the Tigers have
- 9:31Speaker 5: really good starting pitching led by Trek Scooble and now
- 9:35Speaker 5: from Ervaldez, So I would say, right now it would
- 9:39Speaker 5: be it would be the Phillies, the Tigers, or the Mariners.
- 9:43Speaker 6: So I have to pick one.
- 9:44Speaker 5: I'll say Seattle is the second best team in baseball
- 9:49Speaker 5: right now.
- 9:50Speaker 7: Tim, How do you feel about what the Mets did
- 9:52Speaker 7: here in the offseason? Do the Mets get a lot better?
- 9:58Speaker 5: They'll be They'll be a lot better than last year
- 10:01Speaker 5: when they were obviously a disappointment. It does worry me
- 10:05Speaker 5: a little bit for their sake that they have added
- 10:09Speaker 5: so many new.
- 10:10Speaker 6: People to the team.
- 10:11Speaker 5: It's going to take a little while to figure out
- 10:15Speaker 5: if you know, Polanco can play first base and Boba
- 10:19Speaker 5: Schett can play third base?
- 10:21Speaker 6: And how injured is Francisco Lindor.
- 10:24Speaker 5: He says he'll be back on opening day, but that
- 10:26Speaker 5: hammate bone is a tricky situation. A new center fielder
- 10:31Speaker 5: in Luis Roberts, So I just don't know if I
- 10:35Speaker 5: think they have a real chance to be a playoff
- 10:38Speaker 5: team in the National League. So that makes them better
- 10:41Speaker 5: than last year. I just worry when it comes to
- 10:43Speaker 5: corny things like chemistry. Did they add too many pieces?
- 10:47Speaker 5: Are all the pieces going to fit together at.
- 10:50Speaker 6: The right time? That's where I think we are with
- 10:52Speaker 6: the Mets.
- 10:54Speaker 7: Timmy.
- 10:54Speaker 1: We'll get you out here in just a second. Do
- 10:56Speaker 1: you love the World Baseball Classic? It's somewhat. It feels
- 10:59Speaker 1: so much different than regular season.
- 11:00Speaker 6: Obviously, Yeah, I love it. Stu Gotts.
- 11:03Speaker 5: It has grown on me. At the beginning, I wasn't
- 11:06Speaker 5: sure about it. You know, how is this going to
- 11:08Speaker 5: work in spring training? We're stealing guys from teams? Are
- 11:11Speaker 5: they going to play their best? Are they going to
- 11:13Speaker 5: play their hardest? But it has won me over the
- 11:16Speaker 5: last one did I covered a bunch of games at
- 11:18Speaker 5: Chase Field in Arizona, and it was like I would
- 11:22Speaker 5: go outside after the game and it was like there
- 11:25Speaker 5: was a party taking place on the streets of Phoenix
- 11:29Speaker 5: after that because the people, even with teams that weren't
- 11:33Speaker 5: winning this thing, we're just so excited to be there
- 11:36Speaker 5: and support their country. And now that I believe the
- 11:40Speaker 5: Americans are now in with both feet trying to win
- 11:43Speaker 5: this thing, and with the Dominicans and with the Japanese,
- 11:46Speaker 5: oh my god, what a great thing this will be.
- 11:48Speaker 5: So yes, I love the WBC. It has grown on me.
- 11:51Speaker 5: It's a great idea. I just hope nobody gets hurt
- 11:55Speaker 5: and affects the regular Major league season.
- 11:59Speaker 4: Final question, I get youat here.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Taylor sent me a video before Otani had five RBIs
- 12:04Speaker 1: and was a triple shy of the cycle in the
- 12:06Speaker 1: second inning. Is sho Otani the greatest baseball player you've
- 12:10Speaker 1: ever seen?
- 12:11Speaker 7: Tim?
- 12:14Speaker 1: I hear a lot of people saying it, Timmy. That's
- 12:16Speaker 1: why I'm asking you. I know I did.
- 12:17Speaker 5: I saw Willie Mays, and Willie Mays did it for
- 12:21Speaker 5: twenty years, so I'm still gonna go with Willie Mays.
- 12:26Speaker 5: But there's never been anybody like show A. And I
- 12:30Speaker 5: always say Babe Ruth is the greatest player of all time.
- 12:32Speaker 5: I still believe that based on his dominance pitching and
- 12:35Speaker 5: hitting when he played. But there's never been anybody like
- 12:39Speaker 5: show A. Someday I believe he will be the greatest
- 12:42Speaker 5: player of all time, and that day is coming soon.
- 12:46Speaker 5: I mean, Babe Ruth was great. I really believe in
- 12:49Speaker 5: nineteen twenty, if there was a DH in the American League,
- 12:52Speaker 5: Babe Ruth would have hit fifty homers in won twenty games.
- 12:55Speaker 5: But he didn't throw one hundred miles an hour. He
- 12:58Speaker 5: didn't hit pitches routine thrown at one hundred miles an hour,
- 13:02Speaker 5: and I hate eggs and velocity. But he didn't hit
- 13:04Speaker 5: the ball off the bat quite as hard as show
- 13:07Speaker 5: A did. So that's why there's never been anyone like him,
- 13:10Speaker 5: and I don't think there will ever be anybody like
- 13:13Speaker 5: him again.
- 13:13Speaker 6: It's remarkable.
- 13:15Speaker 5: Every single day I watch him play, it is breath taking.
- 13:19Speaker 1: Yep, well there's nobody like you. Is this a great
- 13:21Speaker 1: game or what? That's the podcast? Check it out wherever
- 13:24Speaker 1: you get your podcast. He does it with his son.
- 13:26Speaker 1: It's fantastic. They talk baseball, they talk, you know, about
- 13:30Speaker 1: their relationship, and they talk about some fun stuff on there.
- 13:32Speaker 4: It's a very good listen.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Timmy love you, miss you appreciate the time. No, you
- 13:36Speaker 1: got a run, but I'm excited because baseball's around the.
- 13:39Speaker 7: Corner and that means more. Tim Kirschin on my television.
- 13:41Speaker 6: Okay, thanks for having me, Fellaws see you soon.
- 13:44Speaker 2: Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Gotson Company
- 13:47Speaker 2: Live weekdays at three pm Eastern twelve pm Pacific.
- 13:53Speaker 4: What a crazy twenty four hours. It's Ben Monsey in
- 13:55Speaker 4: the NBA. Because you heard Ryan Bersinger say that Jason
- 14:00Speaker 4: Tatum is on the verge. Of returning tonight for the
- 14:03Speaker 4: Celtics from his achilles injury. But it's also what happened
- 14:06Speaker 4: last night in the NBA that makes his twenty four
- 14:08Speaker 4: hours just a whirlwind of chaos in the association.
- 14:11Speaker 9: I feel like in the last twenty four hours we
- 14:13Speaker 9: can label the NBA the good, the bad.
- 14:15Speaker 10: And the funny. Ooh interesting, you know, not lovely, the funny.
- 14:19Speaker 4: Iowa Samdy like that the good, the bad, and the funny,
- 14:22Speaker 4: and I do He's cant. I didn't think there. Even
- 14:28Speaker 4: if he wasn't listening, he would he would have agreed
- 14:30Speaker 4: with whatever Manzi said.
- 14:32Speaker 11: Absolutely, there's no.
- 14:35Speaker 4: Doubt about that. It is also March sixth, so we
- 14:39Speaker 4: are really sliding in the March madness. And an hour
- 14:42Speaker 4: from now, March madness hit the state of Iowa like
- 14:45Speaker 4: you wouldn't believe. And right now the state of Iowa
- 14:48Speaker 4: is feeding off of that March madness because Drake is
- 14:51Speaker 4: leading Belmont in Arch madness. This is my favorite conference
- 14:55Speaker 4: tournament of the year, the Missouri Valley Conference. I was
- 14:58Speaker 4: off yesterday and I was wh Drake against Southern Illinois
- 15:02Speaker 4: play into this portion of the bracket. It's in Saint
- 15:06Speaker 4: Louis yes, the Missouri Valley Conference and while the schools
- 15:09Speaker 4: have changed, the arch madness has not. But we'll keep
- 15:13Speaker 4: you up to date on everything that has happened. You
- 15:15Speaker 4: want to know what ticks me off about the Jason
- 15:18Speaker 4: Tatum return tonight? Doesn't really tick me off, but just
- 15:20Speaker 4: kind of irks me a bit.
- 15:22Speaker 10: What this is? Uh, I think the bad?
- 15:26Speaker 4: This is the bad. Let's be real. If you follow
- 15:31Speaker 4: the NBA, if you like the NBA, even if you're
- 15:34Speaker 4: an NBA casual, you have disdain for the Boston Celtics.
- 15:39Speaker 4: Like they are just they are not a team that
- 15:41Speaker 4: you're like, yeah, I kind of like them. They just
- 15:44Speaker 4: you don't like you're either a diehard Celtics fan or
- 15:48Speaker 4: you just don't like the Boston Celtics. And this season
- 15:52Speaker 4: was the exception to that rule because with Jason Tatum
- 15:55Speaker 4: going down with this injury, last year, you had Jalen
- 15:59Speaker 4: Brown being the only superstar. They reset. There's no more
- 16:02Speaker 4: porzingis no more Drew Holiday. And I think going into
- 16:07Speaker 4: the season, at least I was expecting I wasn't expecting
- 16:10Speaker 4: much from Boston this year, and in fact, Manci, I
- 16:12Speaker 4: even thought, maybe Boston's just gonna kind of throw on
- 16:14Speaker 4: the towel and see what they can do draft wise
- 16:17Speaker 4: and add another piece, and then they'll just be back
- 16:18Speaker 4: up near the top of the East in the next season.
- 16:23Speaker 4: But what happens is Peyton Pritchard's playing out of his mind.
- 16:26Speaker 4: They end up them making some trade deadline deals, and
- 16:30Speaker 4: now they're getting Jason Tatum back, and they completely in
- 16:35Speaker 4: the short window that you could say, look at the field,
- 16:38Speaker 4: good Celtics shorthanded with no Tatum, and they let go
- 16:41Speaker 4: of the veterans. They're just they're the little engine that could.
- 16:45Speaker 4: And now here they are in the Eastern Conference with
- 16:49Speaker 4: the return of Jason Tatum. And whether it works or
- 16:51Speaker 4: not we will find out over the next couple of months.
- 16:53Speaker 4: But I think the prevailing sentiment is that Boston is
- 16:57Speaker 4: now there to take the East and to overtake the
- 16:59Speaker 4: Detroit Pistons. And so any feel good moment that you
- 17:02Speaker 4: had with the Boston Celtics that I admittedly, even as
- 17:06Speaker 4: a Milwaukee Bucks fan who the Bucks are falling on
- 17:08Speaker 4: their face this season, it was like, you know what,
- 17:10Speaker 4: it's kind of neat to see what Boston's doing, completely
- 17:14Speaker 4: wiped out, erased. Now that Jason Tatum is back in
- 17:18Speaker 4: Boston and set to play a night against the MAVs,
- 17:21Speaker 4: likely making them the favorite in the East.
- 17:22Speaker 9: I think that's a really good way to put it,
- 17:24Speaker 9: because it's like, I don't I don't hate the Celtics,
- 17:26Speaker 9: but I definitely don't like them, right, Like that's I'm
- 17:29Speaker 9: not rooting for the Celtics.
- 17:30Speaker 10: I don't. I don't like them, I don't hate them.
- 17:33Speaker 9: I'm not a Laker fan, so it's I don't have that,
- 17:35Speaker 9: but I definitely am not a person that's rooting for
- 17:38Speaker 9: the Celtics.
- 17:39Speaker 10: But this season watching them, you're like, Wow, good for you.
- 17:42Speaker 10: Like you said Peyton.
- 17:43Speaker 9: Fritchard coming uh was a coming off the bench last
- 17:45Speaker 9: season as a starter. Now Jalen Brown saying this is
- 17:48Speaker 9: his funnest season ever, not the season where he won
- 17:51Speaker 9: a championship and was the NBA Finals MVP. This is
- 17:55Speaker 9: his most favorite season. They're having fun and they got
- 17:58Speaker 9: on a nice little run. There was like a few
- 18:00Speaker 9: games at the start of season you were like, Okay,
- 18:02Speaker 9: how is this team going to survive this season? I
- 18:05Speaker 9: also with you, thought that maybe they would just throw
- 18:07Speaker 9: in the towel and see what comes out of it.
- 18:08Speaker 9: They're in second place in the Eastern Conference right now,
- 18:11Speaker 9: and I think only three teams from both the East
- 18:13Speaker 9: and the West have a better record than the Celtics.
- 18:14Speaker 10: They're doing really well.
- 18:16Speaker 9: I think it's a bad idea to bring Jason Tatum
- 18:20Speaker 9: back into.
- 18:21Speaker 4: The mix, messing up the chemistry.
- 18:23Speaker 10: Messing up the chemistry. Also, it seems rushed.
- 18:26Speaker 9: I'm no medical expert, but this is a really serious injury.
- 18:31Speaker 10: There is always a risk of you getting injured again.
- 18:34Speaker 9: And not that anybody wants off for Jason Tatum, but
- 18:37Speaker 9: why the rush to come back so quickly, especially.
- 18:41Speaker 10: Because Jason Tatum, you are an NBA champion. There is
- 18:45Speaker 10: nothing that you need. Maybe you want that champion, MVP Finals, MVP,
- 18:50Speaker 10: but you are an.
- 18:51Speaker 9: NBA champion and you're gonna come in and it's not
- 18:55Speaker 9: like you're coming in as like a six man. You're
- 18:57Speaker 9: coming in trying to put yourself back into the star
- 19:00Speaker 9: rotation because you are Jason Tatum.
- 19:02Speaker 10: Why would you want this If you're.
- 19:03Speaker 9: Boston things are going well, preserve Jason Tatum and make
- 19:07Speaker 9: sure that he's one hundred and ten percent healthy, not
- 19:10Speaker 9: just ninety percent, because you don't need him.
- 19:13Speaker 4: You know the you know the answer to it is
- 19:15Speaker 4: Jason Tatum doesn't want to feel left out, But you
- 19:18Speaker 4: can't have follow You're already a champion. If they if
- 19:22Speaker 4: they win, or if they win successfully and move on,
- 19:26Speaker 4: and who knows, maybe without him they end up making
- 19:28Speaker 4: a run to the NBA finals. That there's there's that
- 19:32Speaker 4: fomo and look, they did it without him and it
- 19:34Speaker 4: becomes expendable. It's we talk about it all the time.
- 19:37Speaker 11: For sure.
- 19:38Speaker 9: What would be worse though you you have Fomo or
- 19:42Speaker 9: you come in and disrupt everything and you are the
- 19:45Speaker 9: reason why the Celtics fall apart.
- 19:48Speaker 4: I think that is worse, But I don't think that's
- 19:50Speaker 4: how he thinks. Yeah. Probably, I don't think that he
- 19:54Speaker 4: is worried about that. I also think that his confidence
- 19:56Speaker 4: and by the way, if it was up to the
- 19:58Speaker 4: Celtics to just be like, hey, why don't you hold on,
- 20:00Speaker 4: you know, hold off a little bit on this, then
- 20:03Speaker 4: you can end up building friction. I think it's totally
- 20:06Speaker 4: up to Jason Tatum to be honest with you, and
- 20:09Speaker 4: so I just don't think that that's in his his
- 20:12Speaker 4: thought process that it could actually fail. When I think
- 20:15Speaker 4: a lot of people are saying it's gonna fail and
- 20:17Speaker 4: maybe either for Boston to be careful what you wish for.
- 20:20Speaker 4: And I don't want to say Boston falls on their
- 20:23Speaker 4: face like you're saying they're gonna do with Jason Tatum
- 20:25Speaker 4: because there is no chemistry. But I think that would
- 20:27Speaker 4: be something that a lot of us would be rooting for.
- 20:30Speaker 10: It would be a great story. We would love to
- 20:32Speaker 10: talk about that.
- 20:32Speaker 9: It would be great for us, absolutely, But it's like
- 20:35Speaker 9: you're again, You're coming in to be the guy again, right,
- 20:39Speaker 9: You're not coming in to try and insert yourself as
- 20:41Speaker 9: the number four, number five option. And I don't know
- 20:44Speaker 9: how Jalen Brown.
- 20:46Speaker 10: Is gonna feel about this. This is gonna change perspective
- 20:48Speaker 10: on the side.
- 20:49Speaker 4: We know Jalen Brown probably feels about this.
- 20:52Speaker 10: It just is it really worth it?
- 20:54Speaker 9: And I look at it as a business decision for Boston.
- 20:57Speaker 10: You're you're right, this is all Jason Tatum.
- 21:00Speaker 9: He's he does not want to miss he doesn't want
- 21:02Speaker 9: them to win without him.
- 21:03Speaker 10: But it's like, you're already a champion, and I don't
- 21:06Speaker 10: know if it's worth the risk.
- 21:07Speaker 9: Look at it like a business decision and protecting your
- 21:10Speaker 9: number one asset.
- 21:11Speaker 4: I think he's the less champion of any of the
- 21:13Speaker 4: champions that we've had, Like even SGA's championship, I think
- 21:16Speaker 4: is more SGA for Oklahoma City, like Denver Jokic, the
- 21:22Speaker 4: Bucks had Giannis and this Raptors were Kawhi. You take
- 21:26Speaker 4: all of those players in rank them, Jason Tatum's last
- 21:28Speaker 4: in that list, and I think that there is a
- 21:30Speaker 4: feeling of that. It's why he tried to copy every
- 21:33Speaker 4: NBA superstar with all of their stuff, like there's there's
- 21:37Speaker 4: something with that. But Jason Tatum's a great player. To
- 21:40Speaker 4: your point about how the chemistry is going to play
- 21:42Speaker 4: out now that he's with Boston, I think that makes
- 21:44Speaker 4: them the favorites. I hope the Pistons turn into the
- 21:46Speaker 4: bad boy Pistons and Kate Cunningham Durns the you know,
- 21:49Speaker 4: Isaiah Thomas and Isaiah Stewart's Bill Lambier if he isn't
- 21:52Speaker 4: already and set the tone. But when I heard Jason
- 21:55Speaker 4: Tatum coming, it was coming back. I'm like, all right,
- 21:57Speaker 4: you go, Pistons. Because I was like the one year
- 22:00Speaker 4: of the Yankees when Judge was a rookie and they
- 22:03Speaker 4: didn't spend and they had a bunch of young players.
- 22:05Speaker 4: I bring this up it was the one year like
- 22:07Speaker 4: you could be a Yankees fan and then Judge's you know,
- 22:10Speaker 4: Rookie of the Year, you know, monster numbers, and then
- 22:12Speaker 4: they go back to being the Yankees. You're like, okay,
- 22:14Speaker 4: I hate them. That's kind of how I feel about
- 22:16Speaker 4: the Boston Celtics. Now the Lakers. The Lakers another brand,
- 22:19Speaker 4: a bigger which I think bigger than the Boston Celtics.
- 22:22Speaker 4: Lebron James is always a topic. Here's the question, what
- 22:26Speaker 4: the heck happened to Lebron last night in Denver? Because
- 22:29Speaker 4: when you look at the foul that happened on committed
- 22:35Speaker 4: by Nicola Jokich. I watched the replay three times and
- 22:38Speaker 4: had no idea which elbow he actually hurt.
- 22:40Speaker 9: Well, he had to grab both just to make sure
- 22:42Speaker 9: because he was thinking which way did I land?
- 22:44Speaker 10: Which one?
- 22:45Speaker 9: I'll just grab both elbows at the same time and
- 22:48Speaker 9: roll for a second and then figure it out.
- 22:51Speaker 10: It was so funny.
- 22:53Speaker 4: Do you see this? Do you guys see this last time?
- 22:54Speaker 4: Him rolling on the court with his hands covering his elbows.
- 22:58Speaker 10: Didn't even touch him, No, she didn't even touch him.
- 23:00Speaker 9: He gets the layup in falls to the floor, but
- 23:03Speaker 9: grabs both elbows like he's rocking a baby.
- 23:05Speaker 4: Yes, so this is so just just to recap, we're
- 23:09Speaker 4: not even we're not even halfway through. Lebron somehow it
- 23:11Speaker 4: hurts elbows last night and we don't even know which
- 23:13Speaker 4: one it is. It could he could be out for
- 23:15Speaker 4: two weeks and we have no idea what happened to
- 23:17Speaker 4: him last night in Denver. He was a record center.
- 23:19Speaker 4: We'll get to that later on on the show. He
- 23:21Speaker 4: did set a new NBA record last night. So then
- 23:23Speaker 4: Jason Tatum's coming back wenbs thirty eight and sixteen against
- 23:26Speaker 4: the aforementioned Pistons.
- 23:28Speaker 9: So, by the way, the funny was Lebron James of
- 23:30Speaker 9: the Good the Battle the funny, Yes, Lebron James is
- 23:32Speaker 9: the funny.
- 23:33Speaker 10: The good is Victor one by all Right you like that?
- 23:35Speaker 4: Yes, yeah, no, great, but nobody cares.
- 23:38Speaker 10: Nobody cares.
- 23:39Speaker 4: How about Trey Young? You know, Trey Young debuted last
- 23:41Speaker 4: night against the Jazz The Wizard's lost. Trey Young made
- 23:44Speaker 4: his season debut, scored twelve points and then like it
- 23:47Speaker 4: told Sports Center like you're gonna I think it was
- 23:51Speaker 4: Sports Center. I forgot the clip, but they asked, like,
- 23:53Speaker 4: what can we expect and he's like, I'm gonna show
- 23:56Speaker 4: you and not tell you. And I'm like, nobody's watching
- 23:59Speaker 4: Wizards games. No one is. Why don't you just tell us.
- 24:03Speaker 9: And save social media after the fact final You're gonna
- 24:06Speaker 9: watch the highlights.
- 24:07Speaker 10: That's what it means.
- 24:08Speaker 4: I mean they lost to the Jazz last night, and
- 24:11Speaker 4: the biggest story was that Trey Young has made his
- 24:14Speaker 4: debut at twelve points to nineteen minutes, and I anytime
- 24:19Speaker 4: not watching the Washington Wizards is time well spent for me.
- 24:22Speaker 4: So I am not going to be watching. I wish
- 24:25Speaker 4: Trey Young just would have told us. I also wish
- 24:27Speaker 4: it is this is Russell Westbrook, the good, the bad,
- 24:32Speaker 4: the funny.
- 24:33Speaker 10: He's all of it. You don't know what you're gonna
- 24:34Speaker 10: get from it, but he's another bad.
- 24:36Speaker 4: Okay, this is where we're gonna land this plane because
- 24:39Speaker 4: it was late last night in the cloak of darkness
- 24:45Speaker 4: where Russell Westbrook all of a sudden had this all
- 24:48Speaker 4: out attack. And this is a snippet of it. This
- 24:50Speaker 4: is a six minute exchange, an attack on the media
- 24:56Speaker 4: in the great City of Sacramento.
- 24:59Speaker 12: You don't I'll compete. This is a game.
- 25:02Speaker 13: You're a professional guard and play and that's all you
- 25:07Speaker 13: can do, which I think though, because y'all got a
- 25:10Speaker 13: lot of answers and you'll always be talking.
- 25:14Speaker 12: Oh, it's very interesting. Nobody y'all don't got no. No,
- 25:18Speaker 12: you guys have a lot of opinions about how we do,
- 25:20Speaker 12: what we're doing.
- 25:21Speaker 6: What you got no you yeah.
- 25:23Speaker 12: You make a lot of statements and broad statements that
- 25:26Speaker 12: you have no context. So where do you get your
- 25:29Speaker 12: contexts from? Are you in practice? Are you at our
- 25:32Speaker 12: film session? Are you anywhere around the building?
- 25:36Speaker 4: Yes?
- 25:37Speaker 12: No, I haven't seen that practice. So the false context
- 25:41Speaker 12: of and actually, do you know me? No, you don't
- 25:44Speaker 12: know me. You don't know me. You don't know me,
- 25:47Speaker 12: but you make a lot of comments as though you
- 25:49Speaker 12: do know me.
- 25:50Speaker 6: I'm a bunch of basketball.
- 25:51Speaker 12: No, no, no, you don't mind intent. I see it,
- 25:54Speaker 12: I see it anybody else. Do you guys have any
- 25:56Speaker 12: comments about how we play?
- 25:58Speaker 6: What?
- 25:58Speaker 9: What are we doing?
- 26:00Speaker 12: You guys are quiet today, but you guys have a
- 26:01Speaker 12: lot of comments when the game's going on, after the game,
- 26:05Speaker 12: what we're doing, when we should be doing, how we
- 26:06Speaker 12: should be doing it. I'm confused, so am I?
- 26:12Speaker 4: Yeah, we're here. You must have in our.
- 26:15Speaker 12: Film session too.
- 26:16Speaker 13: I'm not on your film session, but you guys have
- 26:18Speaker 13: the worst record in the NBA.
- 26:22Speaker 4: Six minutes of that, and when actually Russell Westbrook was
- 26:25Speaker 4: questioned about it, he didn't have actual receipts on what
- 26:28Speaker 4: people were saying. But imagine this, You just spent your
- 26:31Speaker 4: night away from your family having to take in Sacramento
- 26:35Speaker 4: Kings basketball, and you get dressed down by Russell Westbrook
- 26:41Speaker 4: for what you're saying in a postgame or an after game,
- 26:46Speaker 4: in a blog, on a radio station, in a newspaper,
- 26:50Speaker 4: whatever the case may be, after you lose to the
- 26:52Speaker 4: New Orleans Pelicans by ten. I just have no idea
- 26:56Speaker 4: where Russell Westbrook is going. I don't think he had
- 26:58Speaker 4: receipts Manci, and the fact that he's wondering why reporters
- 27:03Speaker 4: aren't at practice or in film rooms, it's just it's
- 27:06Speaker 4: so ridiculous, and it felt like Russell Westbrook just wanted
- 27:09Speaker 4: to leave with his pound of flesh and this poor
- 27:13Speaker 4: innocent grouping who again had to endure two hours of
- 27:16Speaker 4: King's basketball then ended up getting scolded afterwards. What an
- 27:20Speaker 4: awful evening for anybody that covers the Sacramento Okay, yeah, a.
- 27:23Speaker 9: Lot of bad, A lot of bad, not a lot
- 27:25Speaker 9: of good, and very little funny. But that I think
- 27:28Speaker 9: it came from somewhere real. It's just so he jumped
- 27:33Speaker 9: the shark, Like I'm sure I feel like Russell Westbrook
- 27:36Speaker 9: based on what we know about him in his history,
- 27:38Speaker 9: he seems to be the guy to read comments, to
- 27:40Speaker 9: read things that are being written about him and the team,
- 27:43Speaker 9: and so obviously I think it does come from somewhere
- 27:46Speaker 9: that he read something is real.
- 27:48Speaker 10: But then he jumped the shark with all of the
- 27:51Speaker 10: scolding and like, are you at practice?
- 27:53Speaker 9: But like you said, some people can't go into your practice, right,
- 27:56Speaker 9: they're not allowed to be there. Actually only maybe, like
- 27:59Speaker 9: your beat reporters are those who are part of your team,
- 28:01Speaker 9: but you know, the people that are covering you from afar.
- 28:05Speaker 10: All they can tell you is that your team is
- 28:07Speaker 10: not good.
- 28:08Speaker 4: Fourteen and fifty, you're.
- 28:10Speaker 9: Not good, Like it has to be frustrating for if
- 28:13Speaker 9: you're Russell Westbrook.
- 28:14Speaker 4: I also left that exchange still not understanding what Russell
- 28:18Speaker 4: Westbrook wanted, and then we didn't play the whole thing.
- 28:21Speaker 4: I don't know if you wanted some grace for some
- 28:23Speaker 4: of the younger players and what they're going through. But
- 28:25Speaker 4: it wasn't necessarily explained that way. It just felt like
- 28:30Speaker 4: it was an all out assault on the Kings and
- 28:33Speaker 4: what is happening with the Kings on the court that
- 28:36Speaker 4: Russell Westbrook had no receipts for Jason Stewart.
- 28:39Speaker 14: I remember reading a piece in his rookie year. So
- 28:43Speaker 14: he came out of UCLA as just kind of this
- 28:45Speaker 14: athletic guy and everything, but I don't think he was
- 28:48Speaker 14: like a polished basketball player yet. But I remember a
- 28:51Speaker 14: piece in SI and the reason I read it remember
- 28:55Speaker 14: it is because we had him on the Jim Rome
- 28:57Speaker 14: Show soon after, and I remember the author of the
- 29:00Speaker 14: piece put up perfectly that Russell Westbrook treats every question
- 29:04Speaker 14: from the media like it's an accusation. And think about that.
- 29:08Speaker 14: I think that's twenty years ago, whenever he came out
- 29:11Speaker 14: and was a rookie. So over twenty years, this guy
- 29:14Speaker 14: has not learned that these battles with the media does
- 29:18Speaker 14: nothing but make him look like a jerk. You would
- 29:21Speaker 14: think that over time he would have some kind of
- 29:24Speaker 14: a nuanced relationship with the media and fans. By the way,
- 29:28Speaker 14: because last year he made news for picking fights with
- 29:31Speaker 14: fans and that whole Westbrook thing, like this guy hasn't
- 29:35Speaker 14: learned anything over twenty years.
- 29:36Speaker 4: No, And I'll tell you what. There are some media
- 29:39Speaker 4: markets this happens way more in college than it does
- 29:41Speaker 4: in the pros. But Sacramento. And it's not to say
- 29:43Speaker 4: that Sacramento is a small town. The point is they're
- 29:45Speaker 4: the only show in town. So when the only show
- 29:48Speaker 4: in town is fourteen and fifty, sometimes the team has
- 29:51Speaker 4: a lot to say. When you get in some college towns,
- 29:53Speaker 4: the university and let's just say the Kansas Mend's basketball
- 29:57Speaker 4: program like that runs the news in Lauren. Whatever is
- 30:00Speaker 4: happening is about Kansas basketball. And it's actually difficult to
- 30:05Speaker 4: be a reporter in those spots because, and I'm just
- 30:10Speaker 4: using Kansas as an example, the university dominates so much.
- 30:13Speaker 4: Then if you have a descending or a comment that
- 30:17Speaker 4: isn't pro university or pro the athletics, it's a tough
- 30:22Speaker 4: spot to be as a reporter. Now, try to be
- 30:24Speaker 4: in Sacramento when your team's fourteen and fifty and doing
- 30:27Speaker 4: your job, like there's what else are you gonna talk about?
- 30:29Speaker 4: You're gonna talk about the A's upcoming season, For like
- 30:32Speaker 4: what like it is a it is a tough spot.
- 30:35Speaker 4: So for Russell Westbrook to attack the media like that,
- 30:38Speaker 4: and if it was in New York, or if it
- 30:40Speaker 4: was in Philadelphia, or if it was in DC or Chicago,
- 30:44Speaker 4: you could actually maybe signe with Russell Westbrook a little bit,
- 30:46Speaker 4: but there's just no way in signing and why he's
- 30:49Speaker 4: trying to take it out on the Sacramento media totally.
- 30:51Speaker 9: I again, I like Russell Westbrook and hearing this, it
- 30:54Speaker 9: was like, what do you want them to say? Good?
- 30:56Speaker 10: Good try?
- 30:58Speaker 9: Like it's almost like he wants like a good job
- 31:01Speaker 9: for trying, but it's like, no, you've looked bad.
- 31:05Speaker 10: You've looked not you, Russell Westbrook.
- 31:08Speaker 9: The Kings have looked bad this entire season, and then
- 31:11Speaker 9: with all the injuries.
- 31:11Speaker 10: I don't even know who plays alongside Russell Westbrook, you
- 31:13Speaker 10: know what I'm saying. Everybody else is injured.
- 31:15Speaker 9: So I just it just seemed like he wanted the
- 31:18Speaker 9: reports or the stories to be like, yeah, the Kings
- 31:20Speaker 9: aren't good, but boy are they trying.
- 31:22Speaker 10: They're really trying.
- 31:24Speaker 9: They're going out there every day and it's like, but
- 31:27Speaker 9: that's again, I love Russell Westbrook, and it didn't make them.
- 31:31Speaker 10: Look good at all.
- 31:32Speaker 4: Have your ownership in GM's fight those battles. And I
- 31:34Speaker 4: understand that there's a responsibility as a VET, but I
- 31:36Speaker 4: also felt like he wanted that conflict. I saw a
- 31:39Speaker 4: TikTok of a guy wanting to fight someone in a
- 31:41Speaker 4: parking lot with a whole group around him for three
- 31:43Speaker 4: and a half minutes, and he just danced around and
- 31:45Speaker 4: did some like you know, karate short of moves. There
- 31:48Speaker 4: was zero fight whatsoever. And that's what it felt was.
- 31:50Speaker 10: That's what it felt like.
- 31:51Speaker 4: With Russell Westbrook. There's your twenty four hours in the NBA.
- 31:54Speaker 4: She's Watzi Belaio. So I'm Dan Byer, Jason Stewart, Iowa,
- 31:57Speaker 4: Sam and Ryan Bershing are here.

- 32:29Speaker 4: is important, This is very important, so much, Jason thought
- 32:33Speaker 4: the end of the interview, I want to do this now, Jason,
- 32:36Speaker 4: you thought that Tim Kirkchen said something very interesting at
- 32:38Speaker 4: the end of that interview with Stu gotts In calling
- 32:44Speaker 4: Shohei Otani the second best baseball player he's ever seen?
- 32:49Speaker 4: Is that proper way to put it? Yep?
- 32:52Speaker 14: Stu Austin if he's the best player he's ever seen.
- 32:55Speaker 14: And Tim said, I was able to see Willie Mays
- 32:59Speaker 14: play baseball, and Willie did it for twenty years. So
- 33:02Speaker 14: until show Hey puts more years up, he's gonna stick
- 33:05Speaker 14: with Willy.
- 33:06Speaker 4: Now, that's tough for any of us to weigh in
- 33:08Speaker 4: on Willie May's right, but I do think that overwhelmingly
- 33:12Speaker 4: Like with show Hey, now, I don't know, I don't know,
- 33:16Speaker 4: like the pushback, like it's either Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron
- 33:19Speaker 4: or Willie Mays that we're pushing back. Maybe Mickey Mantle.
- 33:22Speaker 4: But the conversation of show Hey and what he's done
- 33:26Speaker 4: so far, I think he's probably top five easily.
- 33:30Speaker 9: I think if he were to say I'm done today
- 33:33Speaker 9: after this World Baseball Classic, I'm done playing baseball forever.
- 33:36Speaker 9: I'm gonna go be a dad to my kids and
- 33:38Speaker 9: my pop and be a husband, he would top five,
- 33:42Speaker 9: no question. He's the greatest player I've ever seen. There's
- 33:45Speaker 9: no question about it.
- 33:46Speaker 4: I think he's really old.
- 33:49Speaker 10: He's the greatest player I've ever seen.
- 33:50Speaker 9: But it kind of is this kind of like the
- 33:52Speaker 9: situation in the NBA with like Nicola Jokic, Like Nicola
- 33:55Speaker 9: Jokic is the best basketball.
- 33:57Speaker 10: Player, but I don't know if people say he's any
- 34:00Speaker 10: sort of goat.
- 34:02Speaker 4: But I think it's different, you know, Like, yeah, like
- 34:05Speaker 4: I basketball, we have the Lebron and Jordan conversation, right,
- 34:09Speaker 4: and they're while they're not in the same generation, they're
- 34:12Speaker 4: in back to back generations. It's tough when Willie Mays
- 34:15Speaker 4: is playing in the nineteen sixties and he's playing in
- 34:17Speaker 4: twenty twenty six, right, So that's like, that's the tough
- 34:20Speaker 4: part about it. But that's also what makes baseball like
- 34:23Speaker 4: so intriguing in what it For so long it was
- 34:27Speaker 4: baseball was appealing because of the history and the history
- 34:30Speaker 4: behind it. Football I think you could have certain arguments,
- 34:33Speaker 4: but the problem with football is there's so many different
- 34:35Speaker 4: positions and so many different players. There are players who
- 34:39Speaker 4: have you know, grabbed your attention for a while in
- 34:43Speaker 4: the National Football League. But it's just difficult to me.
- 34:46Speaker 4: It's difficult to compare Lawrence Taylor to Joe Montana, right, Like,
- 34:49Speaker 4: I don't know how they played the same era, but
- 34:51Speaker 4: they're different positions, different sides of the ball, completely different
- 34:54Speaker 4: skill set. You know, how are we going to compare
- 34:57Speaker 4: those two? It's different in baseball when you've got someone
- 35:00Speaker 4: plays like Show he doesn't adding pitching to his ruppertoire,
- 35:03Speaker 4: but Willie Mays maybe better defensively in those scenarios, but also.
- 35:07Speaker 10: A different position.
- 35:08Speaker 9: Yes, yeah, Like even with that, it's also you're comparing
- 35:11Speaker 9: a little bit different.
- 35:11Speaker 10: But no, he's I like, he still makes me my
- 35:16Speaker 10: jaw drop sho Tani.
- 35:18Speaker 9: Just when I think I'm like he can't possibly match
- 35:21Speaker 9: this moment, he does another moment.
- 35:23Speaker 10: Like I just it's incredible.
- 35:25Speaker 4: Yeah, I think I think with the World Baseball Classic,
- 35:30Speaker 4: like he hit a Grand Slam last night, Jason, he
- 35:32Speaker 4: said it was all over social media. Oh yeah, and
- 35:34Speaker 4: I'm like, what did he homer off someone from Great Britain?
- 35:36Speaker 4: I don't know, And you said they played Chinese type.
- 35:38Speaker 4: Had no disrespect to those But we've seen shohy other
- 35:43Speaker 4: big moments come up big so a Grand Slam last night,
- 35:46Speaker 4: but it was yeah of the drama right right, yes,
- 35:53Speaker 4: where it's always a show and that's and there are
- 35:56Speaker 4: very few players that can have that aspect of it.
- 35:59Speaker 4: You have shows, you have your show hate and Manzi
- 36:02Speaker 4: is choking Manci Milanios. Do we have a medic here
- 36:05Speaker 4: on Stutatson Company here on Fox Sports right now?
- 36:08Speaker 9: I got excited when you said showtime because that's what
- 36:10Speaker 9: my shirt said, and then I got too excited and
- 36:11Speaker 9: I swallowed spit the wrong way.
- 36:13Speaker 10: That's what happened.
- 36:15Speaker 4: Do we have Do we have Stephen Nelson's call from
- 36:18Speaker 4: Fox Sports one last night, because it's gonna lead us
- 36:21Speaker 4: into By the way, Stephen Nelson's call second best call
- 36:24Speaker 4: we saw in sports yesterday. You're gonna hear number one.
- 36:26Speaker 4: Do we have Stephen Nelson's call from last night? By
- 36:30Speaker 4: the way, if you missed it, it was our Tirek
- 36:32Speaker 4: Play of the Day earlier today, So this was Stephen
- 36:36Speaker 4: Nelson calling show Hayes home run against Chinese type that
- 36:40Speaker 4: you won.
- 36:40Speaker 11: Now, oh, Tony, it is old Tony.
- 36:53Speaker 15: To his own tire.
- 36:57Speaker 4: Crazy. You can get goosebumps for that, right and hearing
- 37:00Speaker 4: the crowd in the situation. Jason, how many views did
- 37:03Speaker 4: it have?
- 37:04Speaker 8: Oh?
- 37:05Speaker 14: I think it's been like literally shared a billion times around.
- 37:08Speaker 4: Thee I saw it was at eighteen million. I mean
- 37:11Speaker 4: that's a lot for one post.
- 37:12Speaker 14: So if you take the aggregate of every single social
- 37:15Speaker 14: media entity, I think it's been shared a billion times.
- 37:19Speaker 4: Well, Iowa Sam's picture of his girlfriend's backyard in the shed,
- 37:22Speaker 4: which tomorrow is the one year anniversary of that picture,
- 37:24Speaker 4: got about five thousand weeks vacations. But compared compared to
- 37:29Speaker 4: the show, Hey, it's just pales in comparison. But this
- 37:32Speaker 4: is there's something that happened in Iowa yesterday that has
- 37:35Speaker 4: nothing to do with a shed or a backyard that
- 37:38Speaker 4: looks like holand in World War two, it doesn't look
- 37:41Speaker 4: it's just dark in drab. Remember that picture. Let me
- 37:44Speaker 4: tell you said that, Yes, World War two very dark.
- 37:48Speaker 4: It was a room that's march in Iowa for you, you
- 37:51Speaker 4: don't see the sun last night in Iowa there was
- 37:54Speaker 4: a high school state basketball game, a semi final game.
- 37:57Speaker 4: You know these schools, you know Norwalk, YEP? Is it
- 38:00Speaker 4: DC Grimes? Is that Dallas Center Grind. I think they're
- 38:04Speaker 4: I want to say they're two A. They play two
- 38:05Speaker 4: A level. DC g was down four points with thirty
- 38:09Speaker 4: five seconds to go, and this is how it sounded.
- 38:13Speaker 4: I'm gonna call it on the Iowa State High School
- 38:16Speaker 4: Basketball Network. This is how it sounded.
- 38:18Speaker 16: Baseline inbounds A lot of times that could set up
- 38:20Speaker 16: a two point basket pretty quickly.
- 38:22Speaker 4: If you need one, you gotta get it in.
- 38:24Speaker 16: Though they do go for the quick two on the
- 38:26Speaker 16: baseline inbounds, the clock does not stop in high school basketball.
- 38:29Speaker 4: It continues to run and they turn it over Smid.
- 38:32Speaker 11: For two more stars, far straight for Smid. We're tied
- 38:36Speaker 11: forty two, forty.
- 38:37Speaker 10: Two Smid again, Cats Stores.
- 38:40Speaker 15: Oh, by mercy, what just happened?
- 38:47Speaker 10: Nobody knows?
- 38:48Speaker 11: Aver Smith just scored six straight.
- 38:51Speaker 17: Dallas Center Grimes leads for the first time in the
- 38:54Speaker 17: game with nineteen seconds to go.
- 38:58Speaker 4: Uh, Dallas Center Grimes to the comeback. Ava Smid, the sophomore,
- 39:03Speaker 4: the star of it, which is absolutely points off the
- 39:06Speaker 4: inbound steal points another steal points and the next thing
- 39:10Speaker 4: you know, Dcg's on top.
- 39:12Speaker 10: She wasn't worried about celebrating. She was worried about making
- 39:14Speaker 10: the next play.
- 39:15Speaker 9: And we never we don't see that, even in professional sports.
- 39:17Speaker 9: Sometimes we see the celebration and you don't go back
- 39:20Speaker 9: on defense. This girl was in the zone and that
- 39:24Speaker 9: call by the guy was so good. He did such
- 39:27Speaker 9: a good job in that call, and he even his
- 39:30Speaker 9: voice like you said, nice the end of it.
- 39:33Speaker 4: Listen to how many times it goes higher and higher
- 39:36Speaker 4: after each play. When we talk about march madness, people,
- 39:40Speaker 4: it's not just college basketball. We all know that it's everything,
- 39:43Speaker 4: and high school basketball makes up so much of it.
- 39:46Speaker 4: So just listen to the voice and the octave ranges
- 39:50Speaker 4: of the play by play announcer.
- 39:52Speaker 16: Baseline inbounds A lot of times that could set up
- 39:54Speaker 16: a two point basket pretty quickly.
- 39:56Speaker 4: If you need one, you gotta get it in, though
- 39:57Speaker 4: they do go for the quick too.
- 39:59Speaker 16: On the baseline in bounds. The clock does not stop
- 40:01Speaker 16: in high school basketball. It continues to run and the
- 40:04Speaker 16: turnover smid for two more scars, four straight for Spid.
- 40:08Speaker 16: We're time forty two, forty two spin again.
- 40:13Speaker 15: Oh bye, Mercy, what just happened?
- 40:20Speaker 7: Nobody?
- 40:21Speaker 17: Hey, you spid just scored six straight Dallas center Grimes
- 40:26Speaker 17: leads for the first time in the game with nineteen
- 40:29Speaker 17: seconds to go.
- 40:31Speaker 4: They scored, Yeah, six points in like three seconds. It
- 40:33Speaker 4: truly was. It wasn't three seconds, but it was down
- 40:35Speaker 4: near close.
- 40:36Speaker 10: It is so fast, so quick.
- 40:37Speaker 9: That sound of the color commentator, let's say, and her saying,
- 40:42Speaker 9: nobody knows You're like, did that?
- 40:44Speaker 10: Does someone insert that drop?
- 40:45Speaker 4: I'm gonna give you some inside the walls. I'm gonna
- 40:48Speaker 4: break the fourth wall and tell you what that is.
- 40:50Speaker 4: Please tell I was able to and earlier in my career,
- 40:53Speaker 4: do high school basketball games for the Wisconsin Radio Network.
- 40:56Speaker 12: Fun.
- 40:57Speaker 4: What you would do during the state tournament. It broadcasts
- 40:59Speaker 4: throughout the state because you have teams throughout the state,
- 41:02Speaker 4: and what they would normally do is they would get
- 41:04Speaker 4: you a high school coach to be your analyst. Okay,
- 41:08Speaker 4: so while I had a broadcasting background and was working
- 41:11Speaker 4: at a local station, they kind of take your group.
- 41:15Speaker 4: They're like, hey, could three or four year guys from
- 41:16Speaker 4: the station called games. Yeah, for sure, all right, We'll
- 41:19Speaker 4: get coaches to line up for you and do it.
- 41:20Speaker 4: So whoever was doing the analyst right there, I swear
- 41:23Speaker 4: had to be a coach of some sort of women's
- 41:26Speaker 4: girls team that has zero experience really doing this. So
- 41:30Speaker 4: you have a professional announcer, like the play by play
- 41:33Speaker 4: guy reaching the moment, and then you have the high
- 41:36Speaker 4: school coach of I don't know Cedar Rapids West. I
- 41:38Speaker 4: don't even know if there's a if that's even a
- 41:40Speaker 4: high school Iowa Sam. The point is is they're not
- 41:43Speaker 4: fit for that spot. But that's okay because it's just
- 41:46Speaker 4: it's high school hoops and it's all awesome. Nobody knows
- 41:50Speaker 4: and oh my goodness, it is so magnificent, she liked.
- 41:55Speaker 14: She answered a question literally that was that was not
- 41:59Speaker 14: supposed to be answer her. What just happened is the exclamation.
- 42:03Speaker 14: It doesn't need an answer.
- 42:04Speaker 4: Here's the It's a rhetorical question, right, it is accept
- 42:08Speaker 4: except if you are the analyst who is there to
- 42:12Speaker 4: actually answer that question. The last person in the world
- 42:16Speaker 4: that you would say don't know should be the analyst
- 42:20Speaker 4: who was there to answer every single question. You could
- 42:22Speaker 4: be like the press got and I'm not harping on
- 42:25Speaker 4: the duty of it. I think it makes the call.
- 42:28Speaker 4: So much better. But you're absolutely right. It was a
- 42:31Speaker 4: rhetorical question. But this she wasn't savvy enough to catch
- 42:35Speaker 4: on because.
- 42:37Speaker 10: She was watching the game. She forgot she was working
- 42:39Speaker 10: for a second.
- 42:40Speaker 4: But the one person that I actually needed to know
- 42:42Speaker 4: was hers her. Yeah, nobody knows, and you're not going
- 42:46Speaker 4: to hear it from me even No, that's my job.
- 42:49Speaker 4: But it was one hundred percent rhetorical. It was one
- 42:53Speaker 4: hundred percent rhetorical. Do you want to hear what would
- 42:56Speaker 4: happen if she called other games?
- 42:57Speaker 10: Yes? I would love to hear that.
- 42:59Speaker 4: All right, let's let's let's try number. Let's try number
- 43:01Speaker 4: like I'm gonna go with my beg of tricks here,
- 43:03Speaker 4: let me just draw a number. Let's do number two.
- 43:05Speaker 4: I would sam nobody knows, Thank goodness, no one answered
- 43:17Speaker 4: El Michael's.
- 43:18Speaker 14: Yeah, that's the thing. I just looked it up. Actually,
- 43:21Speaker 14: Ken Dryden was the guy on the call. It would
- 43:24Speaker 14: have been like, it would have been like, do you
- 43:26Speaker 14: believe in miracles? And then, without any hesitation, Ken Dryden
- 43:30Speaker 14: would have been like, you know what, I didn't until
- 43:33Speaker 14: something happened with my mom once.
- 43:38Speaker 4: Oh, drawing in the beg of tricks number three, Moncie.
- 43:46Speaker 18: Third down and five.
- 43:47Speaker 4: Let's hill Bucks on the car.
- 43:48Speaker 18: Crash your front, Thomas off the edgy Limanning stays on
- 43:53Speaker 18: his feet. Here's it about down the field. It is
- 43:58Speaker 18: caught by tyree Hey inside the twenty five and a
- 44:05Speaker 18: time out taken. Oh my god, this ball is thrown
- 44:11Speaker 18: and Tyragius goes up for like a basketball player, Harrison
- 44:14Speaker 18: trying to knock it down and Eli man I don't
- 44:19Speaker 18: know how he got.
- 44:19Speaker 11: Out of there.
- 44:20Speaker 13: Nobody knows.
- 44:21Speaker 4: No thought he was on the.
- 44:22Speaker 18: Ground and and then he came out of the pile
- 44:25Speaker 18: and just slings it.
- 44:27Speaker 4: Not even Eli Manning knows how he got out of there.
- 44:30Speaker 10: It's just so she really it caught her off guard.
- 44:33Speaker 10: I'm telling you.
- 44:33Speaker 9: I sounded like she forgot she was working, she was
- 44:36Speaker 9: watching the game, and she was so into it and
- 44:39Speaker 9: then realized she had to maybe say something.
- 44:42Speaker 10: I was like answering the literal.
- 44:44Speaker 9: Question, like Jesus said, nobody knows, nobody knows.
- 44:47Speaker 10: But it's like nobody.
- 44:48Speaker 4: Knows we got any more? We got, we got any more?
- 44:54Speaker 4: All right, Yeah, let's let's play it. Let's hear it,
- 44:56Speaker 4: let see it and see what we got. Number four
- 44:58Speaker 4: of the game right now, idiot high Bypa in.
- 45:05Speaker 11: The White veil.
- 45:06Speaker 6: She is gone.
- 45:19Speaker 15: In the year that the house been so improbable, the
- 45:23Speaker 15: impossible has happened.
- 45:26Speaker 7: Nobody knows.
- 45:27Speaker 4: Yes, nobody knows. Oh, I love the Highlight. I feel
- 45:36Speaker 4: really bad for the girl who had the inbound and
- 45:40Speaker 4: kept turning it over. Yes, the saving graces is nobody
- 45:44Speaker 4: is focusing on that.
- 45:45Speaker 10: Nobody's not at all.
- 45:47Speaker 4: Yeah, And it's those moments where you know it's it's
- 45:50Speaker 4: heartbreak for a team and you're annak in that situation.
- 45:53Speaker 4: Even Smith's like in the Spotlight completely boom boom spid
- 45:57Speaker 4: spid smoit.
- 45:59Speaker 9: I was so impressed with how much in control she
- 46:02Speaker 9: was because that moment, you're like, okay, I just scored.
- 46:07Speaker 10: We're down to now, Oh my god, I'm ceiling the ball.
- 46:09Speaker 10: I just scored. And she never went for a foul.
- 46:11Speaker 9: You saw like she wasn't trying to make She just
- 46:14Speaker 9: was like, I'm gonna lay it, lay up, go back up,
- 46:16Speaker 9: lay up, and she made.
- 46:17Speaker 10: I was so impressed with that girl's composure in that moment.
- 46:21Speaker 14: I know that we're not supposed to make up make
- 46:23Speaker 14: fun of high school girls or women. I don't know
- 46:26Speaker 14: what they prefer to be called the theme. I will
- 46:29Speaker 14: say this, like, what was that inbounds past her thinking
- 46:33Speaker 14: it's nobody.
- 46:35Speaker 9: Knowsh nerves, nerves, it got to her.
- 46:41Speaker 10: It was too big A yeah, the first turnover, that
- 46:44Speaker 10: was it.
- 46:45Speaker 4: That was the moment because you're just trying to get
- 46:48Speaker 4: the ball in there.
- 46:48Speaker 9: Correct and that's that she lost it right there. I
- 46:51Speaker 9: don't know if they didn't have a time out or what,
- 46:53Speaker 9: but I would have been like, no, no, no, no, no, I
- 46:55Speaker 9: can't let's let's calm the situation right now.
- 46:58Speaker 4: I tweeted the video at dan Byer on fire quote
- 47:00Speaker 4: tweeted it and nobody knows is magnificent, but it's what's
- 47:03Speaker 4: been people have been talking about the last couple of days.
- 47:06Speaker 4: Did we have any did we have By the way,
- 47:07Speaker 4: kudos to Bo Benson for putting all of those great
- 47:09Speaker 4: moments in sports. Thank you together on on what could
- 47:14Speaker 4: have happened, But there is so much to it. Great
- 47:16Speaker 4: job on the call, and again I don't want to
- 47:18Speaker 4: be I I am not critical at all of the analyst.
- 47:22Speaker 4: I'm so glad that she gave us that moment.
- 47:26Speaker 10: It's awesome, it's it's so funny, it's so good.
- 47:30Speaker 4: So great, Iowa, Sam, And I'm looking here at my
- 47:33Speaker 4: Twitter and it's some guy named Corvette Guy twenty six.
- 47:36Speaker 4: Does anybody know who he is?
- 47:37Speaker 13: Nobody knows.
- 47:39Speaker 4: He's alerted me that they're class four A, not two A.
- 47:42Speaker 4: So thank you Corvette Guy. Oh so you're correct? Is
- 47:45Speaker 4: I just I read whatever the Yahoo articles? Oh no, no,
- 47:47Speaker 4: I'm the one who said four the two A. But
- 47:49Speaker 4: they're actually a much higher class. They played in the
- 47:51Speaker 4: class that I and same as my high school. So
- 47:53Speaker 4: they go and play in the championship game. Unfortunately had
- 47:57Speaker 4: some Here's the other great thing about the video that
- 47:58Speaker 4: you'll see. Number one, whoever did the TikTok didn't get
- 48:01Speaker 4: the full score right, But you're also like, it's a
- 48:05Speaker 4: shop that doesn't do basketball games all the time, so
- 48:07Speaker 4: the score is slow to change. But also whoever recorded
- 48:11Speaker 4: it got a text message a text message during their recording,
- 48:15Speaker 4: so the message pops up on the screen when they
- 48:18Speaker 4: were recording their own screen putting it together. And that's
- 48:22Speaker 4: the video that you've got. You can find it at
- 48:24Speaker 4: Dan Byer on Fox. You can find Manzi at Monci
- 48:27Speaker 4: Bolangio's Jason Stewart Iowa, Sam Ryan Berschinger all hanging out
- 48:31Speaker 4: for Stugatz in Company Live March Madness. The madness is
- 48:34Speaker 4: so much more about high school basketball than really anything else.
- 48:38Speaker 4: And I'm glad that Iowa six days in is bringing
- 48:41Speaker 4: the heat.
