- 0:13[SPEAKER_03]: What's already, welcome on in.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_03]: It is that time of week turns on a side pod, taken up here one day later, because with everything happening in the world of softball, we had to do media, or got to do media, excuse me, on Wednesday, but with us back one day, apologies for the delay.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_03]: We'll try to make it up for you right now.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_03]: The ranch happened here hanging out in more we got the whole squad with us got the man The mid-delegion John Hoover up in the 918 and John we love you.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_03]: We care about you, but again I have to do the weekly How is the mental for Mrs. A chapter the thunder leveled it because none of us get to enjoy Just kidding man.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_03]: Mrs. Hoover is a massive thunder fan and she's happy their whole staff is happy
- 0:54[SPEAKER_00]: She is one one is not what she wanted going to San Antonio, but at some point last night I think she said four or five times we're going to get swept we're going to get swept you lose the double digit lead the first half and the second half she was pretty confident we're going to get swept
- 1:10[SPEAKER_03]: well that we all know this that's part of like the irrational playoff roller coaster of you get like 24 hours of happiness or 24 hours of doom and gloom and then it's like oh there's another game we'll see how that goes our band Carson Field in Norman Carson sorry about your savers my friend but a heck of a fight from the crew after a long playoff trip.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that was a tough one between that and being sunburned from softball last weekend.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_02]: I've been doing better, but can't complain all in all still a fun time of years.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_02]: We've talked about the last few weeks.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_02]: So happy to be bottom with you guys.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_03]: Hopefully you'll stay dry this weekend.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_03]: Don't feel you get sunburned, but it is Oklahoma.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_03]: So be careful what you wish for.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_03]: I have no words for my neighbor.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_03]: Hello.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_03]: How are you, my friend?
- 1:52[SPEAKER_03]: Welcome aboard now do it.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_03]: Well, Abraham, I think has seen me every day so far this week.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_03]: I think or close to it.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_03]: So it's like sorry my guy Thank you for putting up with me pretty usual
- 2:02[SPEAKER_01]: That's all right.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_01]: I can handle it.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: We will indeed.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_03]: Let's dive in.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_03]: Supers this weekend in Norman.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_03]: We'll get to that all here in a little bit.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_03]: Abraham.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_03]: I did a huge preview slash review of everything from the Norman regional plus looking ahead to owe you and Mississippi State that match up.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_03]: It's on the softball show, which is in this feed.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_03]: If you're listening on the podcast version.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_03]: He fed us on YouTube just hit who's YouTube page John Hoover Media.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_03]: We've got the full softball show, but we have had some award violence be announced.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_03]: We've got to talk to Patty Gassos, Siddi Barker, and Gabby Garcia.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_03]: Since Abraham, I got together to preview everything, so we'll hit all that at the bottom of the show.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_03]: We are an Oklahoma podcast.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_03]: Football is the name of the game and there was some news in the World of Oklahoma maybe not concerning like the football program but a player on the team not like a big negative or anything like that but in the world of NIL and the world of revshare things are very very new as far as that goes and the transfer portal is one of those places as well.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_03]: The news
- 3:03[SPEAKER_03]: broke slash was filed in court documents out in Oregon that transfer defensive back Dakota fields is getting sued by Oregon for a breach of contract in John this this is kind of the the wild new world of college football I think we saw
- 3:22[SPEAKER_03]: A couple of headlines ago about Britain and source being not the most recent ones, but hey, did you have a buyout at Cincinnati to be able to transfer to Texas Tech for Dakota fields?
- 3:32[SPEAKER_03]: What it believes that Oregon is saying is that hey, you're supposed to get a $30,000 cut, but because you were transfer and if you paid back $10,000 of it by a certain date, we'd consider it all square.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_03]: Oregon is alleging in these court documents that that date was not met so it looks like they want the full 30 K. We haven't spent enough time in courtrooms, I guess.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_00]: If you're a high elite level college football player prospect these days, if you're a five star four star coming out of high school.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe you're junior high and the coaches are saying this kid can't miss you a better get an elite trainer.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, a coach that knows your position.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry, you're going to need a lawyer and you're going to have to hire a lawyer, you're going to need an agent.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to need a social media coordinator.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_00]: Guys, this is unbelievable.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_00]: I say it's unbelievable and yet when all this stuff started back in 2012, 13, 14, 15 started heading this way.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_00]: I said at some point, players are going to sue schools, schools are going to sue players.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: And here we are, we're seeing that.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_00]: lawsuits filed by a massive university against a kid for the sum of $30,000 that they were willing to forgive, except he missed the payment, missed the deadline, and now they're saying, no, no, you owe us the whole thing, plus interest, pal.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_00]: They're taking him to court.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: I just, this is college football today, and we can expect these kind of headlines and more, obviously, from now on, I guess.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: I guess this is the path we've chosen.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_03]: It feels like we have a couple of different versions of this floating ground college football mentioned the source be situation.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_03]: You had the, was it, Demand Williams, the quarterback at Washington that was signed on is what Washington said to return for another year and then he's like, wait a minute, do I actually want to like visit?
- 5:32[SPEAKER_03]: Was it LSU or Miami or maybe both?
- 5:35[SPEAKER_03]: Um, and you've got, then he decides, no, no, I'm coming back.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_03]: You've got the wild new world of the new transfer portal windows and the threats that have been levied by college football of, hey, if you as a school break those rules and you go and pick up a guy that was enrolled at, he's going to pull Georgia Tech.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_03]: He's enrolled at Georgia Tech in the spring.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_03]: He can't transfer post-spring, but he withdraws from classes and then suddenly, holy crap.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_03]: Not the Baker Baker Maple situation, but like the Baker Maple situation, I did talk to the coaches.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_03]: I just showed up.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_03]: I met Bob Stoops in the meeting and boom, I'm trying to play at your school.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_03]: That could carry, like, revshare implications, although Carson, that stuff we're going to have to, I fear, see another
- 6:20[SPEAKER_03]: race or at court case to actually see someone get through that process.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_03]: It seems like once again, I know that we've done a lot of state of college football stuff like that, but welcome to the wild world, the wild wild west that we currently reside in.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it really is so fascinating.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_02]: It's so different from any other era of college football.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_02]: It does seem like we're just gonna get court case after court case from here on out.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_02]: There just needs to be a little bit more structure.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_02]: I know we've kind of echoed that on the pond quite a bit.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_02]: More rules in place, more guidelines to make less gray area on some of these situations, whether that's a demand Williams, for an insourage speed to coat of fields, three very different kind of issues.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_02]: This whole N-I-L revs you this rev share this era that we're in is so different as I said But there just has to be more structure or more precedent To get things or they don't have to be decided by a judge in some cases a neutral judge in some cases one that went to the school of the athlete that is
- 7:21[SPEAKER_02]: obviously having his case reviewed.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_02]: So it really is super different.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_02]: To kind of feel it's it's interesting because we obviously before we knew that he was going to Oklahoma, that's where he'd end up transferring.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_02]: It was kind of big news day and landing being is as um just transparent as he is, as real as he is pretty much just said, yeah, he just wasn't in the office the next day.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_02]: He just left the program.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_02]: So it's interesting that this is the new side of
- 7:49[SPEAKER_02]: I think there could be some sort of falling out for Morgan's perspective.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_02]: So really interested to see how that unfolds.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_00]: Hey Carson, I've got an idea.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_00]: If you're looking for solutions, let's get Congress involved.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_00]: What about the president of the United States?
- 8:02[SPEAKER_00]: Can we ask, he's not doing anything.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_00]: We could ask him to fix college football.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_02]: What could go wrong?
- 8:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, what could go wrong with that?
- 8:07[SPEAKER_00]: Man, we are, I don't know where this thing is headed.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_00]: None of us do, but we are going 90 miles an hour into a dark tunnel.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know what's on the other side.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_03]: It's as much as we joke and I'm just like we can't get anything done in Washington where we're going to fix college football that way.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_03]: You saw the headlines, the scoreback got pulled, that was the one that it seemed like at least most of the conferences are trying to put their own behind a little bit to try and say, if we're going to start with something, do that, that's not going to be taken for a vote and and Ryan, it's weird because at face value,
- 8:42[SPEAKER_03]: Take names and schools and stuff out of it.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_03]: This seems like to me, I don't know if regulation is the right word, but the closest thing you could get to at least trying to enforce some of these contracts if the NCAA just doesn't care to actually make rules and stuff like this.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_03]: That usually, I mean, we say, billable hours are undefeated in realignment.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_03]: They might be undefeated in just college football in general these days, but it's just so weird that and tell that feels like we get a,
- 9:09[SPEAKER_03]: four or five year precedent.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_03]: I just what's to stop Oregon courts from saying one thing because it benefits Oregon and then Oklahoma courts were saying one thing two years later in a different case and then the California courts are going to say we actually don't care about home cooking we're just going to like do weird crap like it just seems like again I label this like the articles of Confederation of college football and we still kind of seem to be in that space.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_01]: little turn leads us to the same direction, which is this patchwork around the country, patchwork of state laws, patchwork of court rulings, things like that, and there's got to be some uniformity to things.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_01]: Otherwise, it's just going to implode upon itself eventually.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think we're anywhere near there right now, although we're getting a whole lot closer.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_01]: But these things are going to keep happening.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_01]: There's going to be lawsuits between players and schools.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think we're going to see probably at some point a lawsuit from a player,
- 10:17[SPEAKER_01]: for payment, things like that, things like the Dakota feels thing I think are going to happen more regularly.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_01]: And until you get a framework, this is just the reality that we're living in.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_01]: And it's just a mess.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_01]: And another, uh,
- 10:38[SPEAKER_01]: you know, example of why we need some kind of structure to things, the problem is everybody said we don't want the NCAA to be that structure or the NCAA tried to be that structure and then they get pushed back and lawsuits things like that and then everything crumbles and you know we're seeing the fallout of that right now.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, don't forget source be got sued by his previous school.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_00]: Here's your solution, an association, let's just say an athletic association, and it's people simply for college.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_00]: Collegiate athletic association, and if you could make it national, it would be the national collegiate athletic association.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_00]: Wait, we already got one of those.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_00]: If you had somebody who trusted what the NCAA was supposed to do, right, what it should have been doing, building slow steps,
- 11:36[SPEAKER_00]: over these last 20 years, slowly moving in this direction, taking instead of just putting your foot on the gas and hammer down all as fast as you can go all at once, that's where we're at.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_00]: The NCAA had an opportunity years ago to begin addressing this.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_00]: The whole situation and they refused and they stood their ground and then the lawyers came in and they had no chance it was like something out of Game of Thrones Here comes this whole of lawyers to swarm over the NCAA and they're all dead
- 12:08[SPEAKER_03]: Now, if the NCAA has any dragons that they're hiding, I'm in, let me know, they don't be there.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I probably won't beat like there because the dragon's probably not good, but you get the idea.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_03]: Here's kind of where my brain goes to.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_03]: Now, this could all be temporary because one day, maybe in the near future, we could have rules and this could make sense, but I don't know how quickly we'll get there.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_03]: I do wonder, and it makes me think a little bit for a very different reason, like the equals to the thunder and a, I'm sure that being around, just as long as you've been around in the mix that you've heard stuff like this too, I've
- 12:42[SPEAKER_03]: Bear with me.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_03]: Sam Presty and crew, they always were like, we want to do right by these players because eventually maybe over years and years and years, we will build up this reputation of, hey, you might think Oklahoma City is not the place I a young millionaire professional basketball player wants to reside and live for eight months a year.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_03]: But
- 13:01[SPEAKER_03]: You can come in here.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to take care of you.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to give you top notch everything in the background and when our time comes to an end.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_03]: Within reason, we'll try to do right by you and try to get you on and not just totally like screw you over.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_03]: I do wonder if we get far enough into there being no.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_03]: guidance or anything and it's kind of everybody for themselves.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_03]: I do wonder if you get like, hey, there are some schools that school X.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_03]: We've seen this, I think, with Florida a little bit.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_03]: Initially, they smooth it over a little bit of, you might not want to deal with Florida because they're collective.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_03]: The first version of it seems to be a little touching go.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, Oregon sounds great, but if things don't work out with Oregon, are they still in that really aggressively pursues this kind of stuff and maybe that becomes a negative as opposed to a
- 13:47[SPEAKER_03]: Texas Tech or whatever, they'll pay you, they'll pay you on time.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_03]: And oh, by the way, if things don't work out, they're not going to be a big hassle in the way out the door.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_03]: It's something I've never really thought of being, maybe not the initial recruiting pitch, but kind of some of that knock on stuff.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_03]: We know that portal recruiting is a little bit different than a high school recruiting.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_03]: I do wonder if that's going to be something.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_03]: Everything you always hear about Jim Naggi, Oakland's front office, this new version of the front office is Ryan, just how professional and easy to deal with it is, because it's just pretty leveled or not playing a bunch of these games.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_03]: I do want to have that to be something in the future that benefits Oklahoma.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_03]: Kind of like it's benefited the thunder in some ways, with just the reputation of what this front office could be in the next couple of years as it's more and more established in normal.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't think there's any doubt about it.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_01]: I think you're going to see different schools take different approaches and those different approaches pay off in different ways, whether it's being hard-line about everything and locking your players in more.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_01]: Or,
- 14:45[SPEAKER_01]: be in a little bit more lenient and hey if you leave we understand just handle it the right way things like that and the benefit of you know especially as we lean more toward agents in the high school recruiting world those guys
- 15:04[SPEAKER_01]: You know, have memories and will, you know, push, push players towards certain schools that they feel like are our advantageous and yet again, it's the lawyers, the agents who are going to make the money here, you know, the players are going to get some of it, but a lot of it is just finding ways to get lawyers money in different ways.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_00]: this far off concept, the city on the hill, golden gleaming city on the hill, building a culture and college sports, the hell you talking about?
- 15:40[SPEAKER_00]: That's not possible.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_00]: Priority number one, quarter, exactly.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_00]: Priority number one, get paid.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_00]: Priority number two, all the way down to like 38, and then so they do got a good culture.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, let's, let's rank that.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you're not wrong.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_00]: I love what you're saying.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_00]: And I agree that it has helped the thunder a ton when it comes to building, but man, godly, these are baby steps for college football and college basketball, and I don't, I don't see how they're going to be able to, again, I agree with what you're saying, I just don't think people are going to value that.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_00]: Now it's unfortunate.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_00]: I mean social media account, you know, the whole thing, just agitates me sometimes.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think it's gonna be valued in a different kind of way, but you know, use the phrase baby steps there.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_01]: It's almost like just the way that this whole thing came about with NIL just opening up and the way that it's been the wild, wild west.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_01]: It's almost like you're wanting to teach your kid to swim
- 16:47[SPEAKER_01]: and just saying, have at it, survive, and that's where we're at, and some school, some players, some agents, are, you know, learning how to swim like that, and some of them are drowning.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I have no experience with children, but when it looks to me as more like a baby race at halftime, we're some of the kids crawl out there.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, look, my amy, Stephen Reeves, they're
- 17:16[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know that you have Texas that couple a lot that you have some of the SECs goes like we're just going to steadily make this thing happen it's a whole thing is a trauma scene for me man let's just see baby trauma everywhere on that it isn't said here's what we do know if our good friends Dave Wilson or Eli Latterman from ESPN uh flying to Norman and you see the lead of an ESPN story being about how brick venables is straightening the footballs and straightening the Nike logos on the sideline that's I know that things have gotten to a really really good spot is far.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_03]: as that goes to be interesting to continue to follow that although as far as it's kind of quiet on the team front but it's not quiet on the recruiting front car start going to come to you I know that you've been able to reach out to a couple of guys at the soon as I've gotten in contact with but let's start with someone that
- 17:59[SPEAKER_03]: Not just now beginning their relationship, but Gabriel Osborne, a local product that is looking to cut down and it has cut down some of those schools that he's considering alongside Oklahoma.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously would be a huge, huge, huge, huge get all the things per usual recruiter.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_03]: You get an elite blue chip type guy in state.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_03]: You want to keep him home.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_03]: Who's it looked like the suitors are having to elbow out of the way to make sure that Gabriel Osborne signs on the dotted line at Norman.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's a lot of the usual contenders, your Ohio State's Alabama.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_02]: I forget the other two in there, but those are two, and they're all blue blood type programs, ones that have a lot of money, can certainly compete with the financials that OU has.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_02]: But it's big that OU is included in that group.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_02]: That is a...
- 18:43[SPEAKER_02]: prospect that you at least want to be in the mix for being so good, being an in-state kid.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_02]: If you've seen Gabriel Osborn's tape, it is remarkable.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_02]: He is going to be a very good defensive back at the collegiate level.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_02]: Whether that's OU Ohio State, BAM, or wherever he ends up, he's going to be really good.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_02]: So, just very massive that he has OU in his final grouping.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_02]: And then you see Ben Colar, who is a Norman product, actually.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_02]: tied in from the 2027 class.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_02]: He has OU in his top five schools as well.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_02]: He's now being predicted to land at OU.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_02]: By one of, I believe it was arrivals.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was Sam Spiegelman who predicted him to land at OU.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_02]: That would obviously be a big get.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_02]: They have Senate Contraver who is, I believe the number one tied in from the 2027 class kid from Kentucky.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_02]: Now a five star prospect.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_02]: According to Rival, so I mean if they could, they could add one more tie-in with a local kid like Kohlar to go along with driver, they signed rider mix, Tyler Ruxer in 26.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_02]: Jack Van Dorseler has a few years left.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_02]: That position, obviously, you get a guy like Jason Witten that's huge and that position just, they could get one more that seems like it's really solidified for the time being.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_03]: It's a must be nice when you're like a guy like Gabriel Osborn and up and come and defensive back.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, you, Bama, Michigan, Ohio State, Miami.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_03]: You think those schools have been pretty good at putting some debis into the league here.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_03]: Over the last couple of decades, not bad at all.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_03]: And this is the contractual.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_03]: Oklahoma finally get in the mix on a colar in a big way.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_03]: Shout out to Charlie, an excellent soccer ref back in the day in YSA.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_03]: We love you.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_03]: Always love working with Charlie as far as that goes.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_03]: Carson, here are the next couple of days where I'm going to be hammered in on super regionals, but you have been able to get in touch with some guys, the Oklahoma.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_03]: Down the line, not necessarily 2027, but the Oklahoma is kind of starting to build that relationship, getting contact with.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_03]: uh who are some of the uh stories that will be headed to the site here Okuma Sooner's on SI.com here over the next couple of days.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, one of them is Kimmy and Compton Neuro, another local kid.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_02]: He is really good prospect two way player from the state of Okohama.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_02]: That is, I believe he is a consensus four star player, really good probably projects as a safety at the college level.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_02]: He told me great things about
- 21:05[SPEAKER_02]: Um, what he's really been impressed with and he's coming back for a visit in June to 2028 kids won't be an official visit, but still good to get him in the building, get him with some of the other current OU players kind of see the culture or what it's like, give him another visit.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's big for the staff.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_02]: Like Ryan said, look out for that one on the website in the coming days and then Gavin Gavin Strang is another one quarterback from the class of 2028 and he only does three offers at this point and they are from OU Eastern Kentucky and Memphis.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_02]: A little bit puzzling but you look at him a six foot five two hundred and ten pound quarterback.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_02]: You look at his tape and it is very impressive.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_02]: a heck of a deep ball that he throws for a big guy he's pretty mobile not your true dual threat quarterback but certainly can scramble make throws on the run I got in touch with him as well he said he was pretty blown away by the offer obviously hasn't made it out to Oklahoma he's from Tennessee so not a local kid but someone that kind of an under the radar this could really test Jim Naggi their evaluation
- 22:12[SPEAKER_02]: The whole team's just evaluation product.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_02]: We've seen that with guys like Keldre Ben going from an undrained prospect, now being a consensus forestar in an OU commit.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_02]: So I think that one's really fascinating to see how his recruiting picks up that Memphis offer that I mentioned.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_02]: It came after OU offered him.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_02]: So it's one of those things that the first big offer might be the first domino to him getting a bunch of offers.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_02]: OU being the first FBS program could be a good
- 22:40[SPEAKER_02]: as far as trying to sway him to Norman, but that's another one that's going to be on the website so stay tuned for it.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_03]: Oakland suitors on SI dot com don't ever have to pay a dollar to hop on to the website and take it all in yeah I was going to say course like the counter bin recruitment is like the perfect Example of there's been a couple of those guys on the defensive side of the ball as well both it's not just the front office I think the front office is doing a great job there, but even go back two or three cycles and Brent Minibles on the defensive side of the ball has never been terrified to be like I don't care what offers you have if I or Miguel
- 23:15[SPEAKER_03]: They're in on it and that's been pretty good.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_03]: So excited to see as like we've said it and talked about here over the last couple of weeks Really feels like getting down the way in 2028 and 2029 a little bit on the quarterback front and and all by the way Don't forget you had talked to James and Robert just a couple of weeks guy.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_03]: It all runs together But here pretty recently for the 2027 QB comment
- 23:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like, I think I mentioned this a couple weeks ago on the podcast, but he, he was really detailed and talked about how it benefited him to be a backup quarterback as a sophomore in high school.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_02]: He was behind KJ Lacy, who was at the time a Texas commit.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_02]: Now, he is on the long horns roster.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_02]: And he told me how much he grew during that time.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_02]: Never let his head get down.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_02]: Still got some reps as a sophomore, but really got his opportunity the next year.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_02]: And that's when you see the offers from OU, Auburn, Georgia, Florida, a lot of SEC schools, a lot of other power programs come in.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_02]: And it just seems like one of those things that he waited his turn, works really hard, got some good coaching, wasn't afraid to learn from the guy who is more experience to probably at the time better than he was.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_02]: And it seems like that's just really worked out.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_02]: His numbers were video game stats.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_02]: as a June, you're now using OU commit, really going to be interesting to see what he does as a senior at Sarah Van High School in Alabama.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_02]: Alabama is not a traditional recruiting zone for the sooner's either.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_02]: Seeing if that opens up any more pipelines, you see Trayvon Hall, Jalen Scott to other commits from the class from Alabama.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_02]: With them being in the SEC now, it's going to be interesting to see how the recruiting trail just kind of expands for this OU team
- 24:56[SPEAKER_02]: Being competing for recruits with the Georgia, as the Florida is your traditional SEC, what you think of with the old school SEC.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's going to be fascinating over the next, not even just the cycle.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_02]: The next five, 10 cycles.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_02]: See how the base really just changes for you.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_03]: The perfect segue into a little bit of more preview to stuff coming to the website, OaklandSooner's onside.com here in the coming days.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_03]: Right now, our good friend Brady Trantham is in the bunker, designated survivor, and he has crunched the numbers, he's doing an analysis on how Oklahoma's recruiting footprint has shifted slightly with Brett Vittables coming in, we've obviously seen more moves into the southeast and then what kind of extra,
- 25:39[SPEAKER_03]: ramp up that Jim Nagy and his staff are being able to kind of apply to that is obviously the suitors are always going to recruit Oklahoma in Texas.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_03]: We know that you're not going to run away from that, but it's been issued to see just kind of the makeup of this roster slightly tweaked here of the last four years and certainly as they sprint into a massive 2026 season down in Norman.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_00]: I got to go to interject here for you guys as long as we're on this topic as the old guy in the group,
- 26:05[SPEAKER_00]: Back in 2011, 10, 11, 12, it was covering the big 12 spring meetings up in Kansas City, athletic directors come in, coaches come in, whatnot.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_00]: And I may have told you guys a story before I probably did.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_00]: Kirk balls is in there from Austin, you know, and there's various newspapers, Blair Kirk off from Kansas City.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_00]: We're all interviewing Delos Dodds, and I mean, it's a small little room, it's a little hotel ballroom.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_00]: They got tables and chairs all set out, and he's kicked back in his chair, and he's got his leg up on the table.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_00]: This is how he relaxed this interview is.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_00]: He's just having a conversation with a bunch of sports writers.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_00]: And we got him on the record.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_00]: I'm pretty sure it was Kirk who asked him about the SEC.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_00]: getting Texas A&M, which is big news in Austin, Texas, right?
- 26:52[SPEAKER_00]: And he's like how concerned to you that the SEC is now has a door open into Texas.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_00]: And he said, eh, I wouldn't worry about it.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_00]: More the a little sliver down the east side of Texas, that's all it is.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_00]: that was a hundred percent wrong was it not here we are decade later decade and a half later and we're talking about a youth footprint needs to be more southeast conference it's like holy cow what they were locked in and focused on nothing but Texas I shouldn't say nothing but Texas but mainly Texas for years for generations and now it's hey they got to get they got to go east they got to get some of those kids out of the south that's an amazing transformation in just ten years
- 27:34[SPEAKER_03]: feels like it has the potential to be almost the opposite transformation for a place like Nebraska that we talked about for so long.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_03]: It actually did matter a great deal that they're making consistent trips into the state of Texas.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_03]: And now you look at their footprint and just kind of all over the place.
- 27:47[SPEAKER_03]: So excited for I know that Brady's excited about that.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm excited to bring it to you guys.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_03]: Stay tuned to all the social suitors on SI, Oklahoma suitors on SI or just
- 27:59[SPEAKER_03]: dot com a busy week still ahead even if we're kind of in recruiting season on the football front as in the diamond sport world, we're moving into a selection Monday for the baseball squad and super regionals getting going on Friday in Norman, Mississippi state coming in Friday noon.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_03]: Saturday noon if Sunday becomes necessary.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_03]: That's TBD ESP and I'll see how many games they have on Sunday times all that stuff.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_03]: But since Abraham I broke down everything from the week in that course was out there for as well full squad of fair.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_03]: We have gotten a couple of tidbits and news first off.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_03]: We talked to Patty Gassos, Sidney Barker, Gadigarcia, yesterday Wednesday.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_03]: We'll talk about that here in a second.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_03]: The news, as we're recording now at 1237, it broke at noon right at the top of when we were supposed to record, no shock but incredible nonetheless, Oklahoma has Kindle Wells and Kai Miner who are both in the top three finalists for NFCA.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_03]: Freshman of the year, they joined Nebraska's Alexis Jensen, who's been fantastic in the circle for the corn huskers alongside Jordi from, but the second time in school history now the NFCA Freshman of the year began in 2014 if I remember correctly, but second time since then that Oklahoma themselves have had two of the top three finalists.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_03]: That other time being 2021 when TRA and Jada were both finalists TRA ended up winning that.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_03]: Third time ever that you've had the same school with two of the finalists in Ryan.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_03]: Sooner's have, I guess a 66% chance to grab their fifth NFCA freshman of the year honor since 2014.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I would anticipate that happening, but it's been fascinating, you know, most of the year, I think we sort of assume that Kendall Wells was going to get it with the home run record and everything that goes along with that, but not only is Kendall Wells called off a little bit, but Kai Miner.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_01]: the way that she's come on here, especially over the last month or so has just been incredible.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_01]: What is it?
- 30:08[SPEAKER_01]: She's a lot off three of the last four games with doubles, had quite a few home runs during their last six or seven games and just continues to be a professional hitter.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_01]: in every sense of the word and wreak havoc on the base pass.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_01]: We talked about this on Monday, but it seemed like Michigan forgot how fast she was for large portions of that game and cost them some bases behind her and helped owe you to get some extra runs.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_01]: And Kind of Wells continues to be fantastic and not taking anything away from her because
- 30:48[SPEAKER_01]: she's been great and she's a great defender which doesn't get talked about enough although patty's brought it up quite a bit recently but the job that Kai minor has done has just been remarkable and it's been something that they've really needed to keep that offense you know, trucking right along.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_03]: I also just chuckle.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_03]: Kendall Wells cooling off.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_03]: She is still checking out his head.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_03]: Home run number 37, which tied Laura Espino's mark, which stood since 1995.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_03]: She's what three deep balls behind Megan Grant.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_03]: It would be kind of fitting in a weird, like, sick, twisted way for,
- 31:26[SPEAKER_03]: Kind of wells gets SEC fresh for the year.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_03]: She's a fantastic candidate for National Fresh for the year.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_03]: Kind of, it kind of be the most owe you thing ever to be like, that they're so good that they just split the trophy.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_03]: What do you take CCC?
- 31:39[SPEAKER_03]: What do you take CCC?
- 31:40[SPEAKER_03]: And just roll.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we're seeing how SEC women's basketball handle their freshman of year with Oliashavans making first team, galvan winning freshman of the year.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I don't think OU fans would complain in that situation because it's both of them on the same team, one wins SEC, one wins national, but I think.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_02]: Both have their cases, like you were saying, Abraham, um, Kai-minor speed is just ridiculous.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_02]: I was there photographing the games and she's tough to photograph because she is that fast, um, her wheels are so impressive.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of those doubles that she's had would be singles for other players.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_02]: It's just such a game changer that she can get in the scoring position with her legs as easily as she does, but Kindle Wells even quote on quote slowing down.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_02]: She is just
- 32:27[SPEAKER_02]: Such a difference maker, you see the pictures on the other teams pitching around her, and that's just a testament to how powerful, how efficient she is, so I think both of them just not only this year, but they're going to be trouble for a long time to come.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it took Patty gas, so it's, it's a, it's a, it bears very rich.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_03]: She signs like the top class every year and then you're just like, oh, you thought that Gabby Garcia was awesome.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_03]: And she is awesome.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_03]: Guess what, Kai Miner can do else is like, on to the new shiny freshmen that's coming on in.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_03]: Although, shout out to Gabby Garcia.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_03]: If you go back, we talked to Ron Wednesday.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_03]: Those videos are up everywhere.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_03]: You get him, who's YouTube page, John Hoover Media.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_03]: Just search that on YouTube.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_03]: Go back to Sunday's press conference, though, as they kind of wrapped up that victory over Michigan.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_03]: Gabby Garcia asked about the impact that Kai Miner has said at the top of the lineup.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_03]: Anytime you use, it's like going to war when it comes to like following Kai Miner and being able to roll through that.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_03]: Sign me up for going to war anytime we're on the diamond for anything.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_03]: like that.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_03]: It'll be a war of maybe a civil war a little bit this weekend as Sam Rickets comes in a former sooner star, former sooner GA, obviously.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_03]: It's always, um, I always enjoy Ryan.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_03]: We've had a couple of these, not a couple more than a couple.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_03]: A bunch of these here the last couple years is Patty Gatso's coaching tree spreads far and wide, not just assistance now, but former players all
- 33:57[SPEAKER_03]: former sooner's coaching on staffs that are in supers this weekend isn't saying we were probably buying a major upset going to get that anyway whether it's Melissa Lombardi and Sid Ramero coming in or Samantha Ricketts out of the Eugene Reginald, but it's still cool nonetheless to see just how much pride patty gas so it takes out of.
- 34:17[SPEAKER_03]: seeing her players come through and think that maybe that she had enough of a positive impact that they might say, I might want to try this coaching thing too, and they're obviously a bunch of them are excellent at it following and gas issues.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, all you have to do is look at that list.
- 34:32[SPEAKER_01]: I think what is it seven of the other 15 teams?
- 34:38[SPEAKER_01]: If I'm not mistaken, see the six or seven.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_01]: I had it in the
- 34:48[SPEAKER_01]: Patty Gasseau has continued to develop coaches, both like you said, as assistance coming up from the player ranks, I mean, heck, you just look, hope, chat lines at the McNeese state.
- 35:00[SPEAKER_01]: Tiara Jennings has been on OU staff here for a couple of years.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_01]: You've got to imagine that she's going to be in line for a full-time job whenever she's ready for it, wherever that is.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_01]: And it's just a testament to not only how good a coach she is and we all know how good a coach she is, but
- 35:19[SPEAKER_01]: the way that she develops her players in a way that sets them up to be good coaches and to think about the game in different ways, but also to know that it's about more than just softball.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_01]: And that's something she talked about yesterday when we talked to her is
- 35:41[SPEAKER_01]: The example, one of the prime examples that she wants to set is, hey, you can do this job and have a family and do all the other things you want to do in your life and not just be 100% softball, 100% at a time, and you can still do it at a really, really high level, which obviously Patigasa was done, and she is immensely proud of that.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_01]: And also immensely proud, speaking of Samantha Ricketts in particular,
- 36:08[SPEAKER_01]: that Samantha Ricketts has been loyal to Mississippi State, stayed there, had some opportunities to go elsewhere, probably could have got paid, you know, a lot more money to coge elsewhere, but she stayed there, was an assistant there for a long time, got elevated to a head coach and has been fantastic there and is working on building something there rather than, you know, finding the next step.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_00]: If I could add a quick to that, Ryan, you're right.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_00]: She does an unbelievable job developing those qualities.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_00]: I'd also think she recruits to those qualities.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_00]: She identifies players who have high super high IQs when it comes to the game of softball.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_00]: She identifies it in the recruiting process and says, come over here, we can do this.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_00]: I can nurture that and grow you as a softball, not just a softball player, but a softball mind.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_00]: And then it just like they naturally just go out into coaching after that.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_00]: some of that's already there but a lot of it she does develop.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_03]: You look at just teams that are in supers this weekend, Courtney Difel, Arkansas Head Coach, she was an OUGA 0809, DJ Gasso, ever heard of them cement the rickets as we mentioned Shannon Sale, still pitching coach at UCF as they had across the country to head to UCLA for the LA Super Regional Craig Snyder to
- 37:31[SPEAKER_03]: The Florida stud head coach, obviously, was an OU assistant from 992,000.
- 37:35[SPEAKER_03]: Two Kristen Celeski at Texas.
- 37:38[SPEAKER_03]: She was a volunteer coach in 2022.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_03]: Someone that was, you know, at a, was she at Corpus Christi beforehand and stepped away from that to come close?
- 37:46[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_03]: Here for Oklahoma and then you saw that Mike White was immediately like, I need some of that.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_03]: Can I pick your brain?
- 37:53[SPEAKER_03]: No, and that's just the teams in supers.
- 38:00[SPEAKER_01]: who is connected with Paddy Gasau just was never actually on a staff with her.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and the Tim Walton coaching tree, I guess that Gaiski's on, it's almost like inseparable from at least the point that Gaiski was on there.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_03]: The Paddy Gasau coaching tree, and then, again, that you mentioned Avery, that that's just the teams and super.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_03]: It's much less to everybody else.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_03]: So, kind of incredible as we get that bad boy rolling,
- 38:27[SPEAKER_03]: Excited to see that the name of the game this week, you know, just be what can Oklahoma do to battle Mississippi states pitching staff.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_03]: We talked about it on Tuesday.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_03]: But it was a spot where
- 38:41[SPEAKER_03]: This is one of the topstaffs in the SEC, one of the all three of the topstaffs in the SEC by Stathy R.A. did not see Oklahoma in the regular season.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_03]: Part of that, or you had topstaff because didn't battle Oklahoma, maybe a smidge, but they're also really good.
- 38:56[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, the All-Avastaff's really good.
- 38:58[SPEAKER_03]: So as Mississippi State, that was something that Patty talked about.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, today Ryan is it's just gonna be, it feels like I go back to that Arkansas series, a little bit and then how it rolled into the Georgia series
- 39:11[SPEAKER_03]: This is going to be when you're battling page of gold and it was a pair of cloth.
- 39:17[SPEAKER_03]: Every hitter is going to have their own game plan and it's going to be on them to be aggressive about that stuff but also have the awareness of, hey, Kai Miner just went up and she attacked the off speed in the first pitch and she flew out.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_03]: I, Gabby Garcia, now maybe need to alter my game plan and no, I need to eat four or five pitches.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's going to be kind of a continuation of what we talked about a couple of weekends ago when Arkansas and Georgia were in town and certainly they made those adjustments from the Arkansas series.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_03]: into Georgia at the end of the regular season.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah and that's something they've been quite a bit better at recently is about recognizing those situations and being able to adjust internally with the game plan to set up not only yourself up for success later in at bats but also the rest of your team for success and they're going to have to do it because these are two of the best
- 40:14[SPEAKER_01]: Faircloth wouldn't even thought of as their ace, good was, until last weekend, and then Faircloth goes out, throws a no hitter, and then comes back with just another phenomenal game on Sunday to close the thing out.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_01]: Patty Gesso talked about how those pictures in particular have really taken on the personality of Terran Moat who is a phenomenal picture in her own right and that's another thing that she praised Sam Rickett's on was just building the coaching staff around her to uh and that's something obviously Patty Gesso has done.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_01]: You know, JT is a pretty easy hire there for that, but also has been just a phenomenal mind as far as offense goes and softball and then obviously what Jen Rochis done has just been phenomenal, but Terran Moat has built this pitching staff in her image and her image is a pretty dang good one.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_01]: uh and uh you know they they like to mix up speeds uh patty gas so talked about I think it was fair cloth that she talked about everything just was on a string the movement that she has on her pitches and that's something that OU has really got to be smart about the way they attack things and not
- 41:36[SPEAKER_01]: go out and have any of these three four five pitch innings that are pretty easy to have against a pitcher like that when you're going to when you they draw a lot of soft contact if you're able to contact them at all.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_03]: should be an excellent matchup in Norman this weekend.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_03]: Oklahoma looking to punch their ticket to a tenth straight women's college world series not bad not bad from the series if you can get it on the other side of things get Johnson and crew they are waiting until Monday selection Monday that's 11 a.m. if I am remembering correctly once the bracket starts getting released
- 42:14[SPEAKER_03]: Carson, kind of Lippon in, you said it, Lippon into the NCC tournament, excuse me, that continued Lippon into the NCA tournament last four straight series, then dropped the game to LSU.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_03]: And now in a weird way, are you almost hoping to fall off a two line in a regional, so that you don't get locked in to go into LA or Atlanta to take on a UCLA or a Georgia Tech.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think you're right on the money there because from 1 to 32 it is seated like a snake, the best of the two seeds play against the worst of the ones in vice versa right now the projections have
- 42:59[SPEAKER_02]: Georgia Tech this year, you know that they're a phenomenal team even more so than the top dogs of the SEC like Georgia Tech says Texas A&M.
- 43:07[SPEAKER_02]: They really then and UCLA do seem like the clear best teams and that just kind of seems like a death wish for OU or
- 43:14[SPEAKER_02]: any other two seed in the nation for that matter.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_02]: But if they could bump down to three, it's more seen at regionally, so maybe they fall into Kansas's regional, which still not an easy match.
- 43:25[SPEAKER_02]: That's a very good Kansas team, but seems a lot more manageable than playing against a Georgia Tech in the first week into the tournament.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, this team, like you said, they are Olympic right now.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_02]: That was a not very good LSU team.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_02]: They've lost to the other night.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_02]: They've lost a bunch of series lately, and you have to look back.
- 43:44[SPEAKER_02]: And if not for that series win against A&M early in the year, winning on the road against Vanderbilt and LSU, we might be having conversations about, is this team in the field or not?
- 43:55[SPEAKER_02]: They really haven't given themselves a lot of wiggle room, but thankfully they did boost their RPI early in the year with those series that I'm talking about.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_02]: The series win against Gonzaga is actually aged better than we would have expected.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_02]: They got a win against ASU.
- 44:09[SPEAKER_02]: So some good moments earlier in the year have paved the way for them to be in the postseason.
- 44:14[SPEAKER_02]: That's not really in doubt.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_02]: But the level of confidence also is at very high right now.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_02]: The pitchings not.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_02]: particularly good right now the baddings inconsistent better than it was early in the year it's funny because the baddings significantly gotten better the pitching's gotten significantly worse the bullpen is kind of in shambles right now so the level of confidence like I said not extraordinarily high it's just pray you don't go to Los Angeles or Atlanta then maybe college baseball is a weird sport you never know what could happen but yeah some things have got to change for
- 44:51[SPEAKER_03]: last set full pressure's off.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_03]: Not a it's a group that if you just kind of come together, you've seen individually different aspects of the game be really good.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_03]: They're gonna have to put it all together, have it put it all together for a month or more with any kind of consistency.
- 45:07[SPEAKER_03]: But
- 45:08[SPEAKER_03]: Expectations low, so not going to have a lot of pressure should be able to go into a regional and play loose Regardless of where they end up at and the other good news is not going to see an SEC team at least for a weekend Which while if you're kept in tech or You see late might not be a reprieve, but at least you're not going to see another SEC team in that first game Matter anything like that once they get going on Friday
- 45:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, no 100%.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's the best way to look at it.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_02]: Those two, like I said, I don't think you need to see it's going to compete with UCLA or Georgia Tech.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_02]: But after that, you have to look at these Georgia Texas A&M Auburn.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think you want to be in a regional with any of those teams either.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_02]: That's kind of the next level.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_02]: I'd rather be in North Carolina for that matter.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_02]: I'd rather see Canada.
- 45:53[SPEAKER_02]: West Virginia.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of these other teams, so if somehow they don't end up in those two, I think you feel better about that than if college baseball went even weirder and you could be in say the long horns region or something like that.
- 46:08[SPEAKER_03]: Other bit of good news is it isn't land a sport.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_03]: So if you get sent to Georgia Tech, there is always meltdown potential because it isn't land and it's kind of a curse city, but that's okay.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_03]: Elsewhere, as well before we dip out, if you're into this kind of thing, soon as Vince basketball has set their things, giving plans, they're headed back to the Fort Myers tip off.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_03]: We kind of heard about some of these games who was made official today.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_03]: November 26th, we'll go backwards and we'll work forward.
- 46:33[SPEAKER_03]: Thanksgiving, there gonna be a matchup against Purdue, out in Fort Myers,
- 46:37[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, you want an early test for your bigs, Purdue always provides that as far as that goes.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_03]: Then two days before that on that Tuesday out there for Feast week, they'll be taking on pit.
- 46:47[SPEAKER_03]: So pit and Purdue out at the Fort Myers tip office.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_03]: The schedules kind of filled its way out as we just get, you know, one game here, one game there, breaking out.
- 46:56[SPEAKER_03]: So should be, uh, a, uh,
- 46:58[SPEAKER_03]: I would say, Carson, a good early test.
- 47:00[SPEAKER_03]: It kind of looks like it's mirroring what we saw a year ago, which was maybe not the sexiest home slate, but a lot of these, whether it be the NIL games like up into Dakotas or these tip-off events, should have a pretty decent non-conference schedule when it comes to a lot of the teams at the top of the college basketball.
- 47:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, overall, it's not a cupcake schedule.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_02]: You see a lot of power teams really schedule all cupcakes, but between those two games against power teams, they're also playing what I've heard as a neutral site game against Arizona State and Tulsa.
- 47:32[SPEAKER_02]: That's one that I wish was at the Lloyd Noble Center, just to get fans more excited, get a power team at home.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's something that if I was running the program, I would schedule more good opponents at home.
- 47:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, I see the value of a neutral site from an NIL,
- 47:46[SPEAKER_02]: a net perspective, but getting some fan excitement of hosting a team like ASU, I think does more for the atmosphere than playing them in Tulsa does, but that's at least a quality opponent along with Pit and Purdue.
- 48:00[SPEAKER_02]: Oklahoma State, you would expect another game at the Paycom Center, that's been a great environment the last two years.
- 48:07[SPEAKER_02]: Curious to see what the ACCC challenge looks like, that was of course, at Wake Forest this past year, maybe that's a home
- 48:16[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe that does something to generate some life into avoid noble center.
- 48:19[SPEAKER_02]: We know how dark depressing and gloomy that place can be at times.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_02]: But if they could get someone that's not East Texas A&M, fairly Dickinson, North Florida, those are the three home games we know of so far.
- 48:31[SPEAKER_02]: Get something at least a little bit more challenging, I think.
- 48:34[SPEAKER_02]: I think the schedule would shape up really nicely and have a good balance of, yes you're playing these bad teams, but you're also playing these decent to good major program teams too.
- 48:44[SPEAKER_03]: no popcorn machine buyers.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_03]: That is my bar.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_03]: Anything other than that, and it is all gravy.
- 48:50[SPEAKER_03]: But should be good.
- 48:51[SPEAKER_03]: Be sure you're headed to the site, Oklahoma suitors, onside.com, like said, all of Carson's recruiting stuff, all of the football content that we have to use from the great Brady Tranta.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_03]: We will have full coverage.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_03]: Once again, of everything, Oklahoma softball is they look to punch their ticket.
- 49:06[SPEAKER_03]: Back to the Women's College World Series, we'll have selection Monday coverage for the baseball squad.
- 49:10[SPEAKER_03]: They'll get to know of everything going down in whatever regional they get sent to.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_03]: It's a busy time a year and your one-stop shop, Oklahoma Sooner's on si.com.
- 49:21[SPEAKER_03]: For us, Abraham, I'll be back on Monday, pre-viewing, recapping, whatever needs to happen as far as the softball world goes.
- 49:30[SPEAKER_03]: I can just tell you right now, if the Sooner's make it to the Women's College World Series,
- 49:35[SPEAKER_03]: We'll probably be doing the suitors on a side pod on Tuesday, because Wednesday is media day, Thursday is day one.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_03]: If not, please stay out of my mentions, and we'll put on Wednesday per usual as far as that goes, but just give me a little bit of an update of what next week's schedule could look like as far as that goes.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_03]: But other than that, big thank you as always to Ryan Aver, Carson Field and John Hoover for,
- 49:59[SPEAKER_03]: Simply putting up with me.
