- 0:05If I could go back time, I' d definitely be back to my
- 0:09high school days. I met my best friends and spent my best days with
- 0:15them and without hesitation, I would live it again. My name is Mario.
- 0:21I am currently forty- three years old. Decades ago, during my
- 0:25youth I studied at a high school in front of a square back then.
- 0:32That place was filled with life full of students who gather between classes and also
- 0:37after them. However, with the passage of time, the square has fallen,
- 0:43unfortunately and has been forgotten by the majority. Now, their dark and
- 0:49abandoned corners seem to be drawn from the darkest nightmares or from a horror movie.
- 0:56Children' s games and video machines lie torn by time and covered by
- 1:00dust and shadows as if they were frozen in time, trapped in a world
- 1:06of darkness and abandonment. Today, I decided to return to the place out
- 1:11of pure nostalgia. Upon arriving I realized the sad and decadent situation in which
- 1:18the square was located. The lights barely penetrated the darkness that hovered over the
- 1:23place. It was then that a macabre and tempting idea took over my mind.
- 1:30Why not gather my high school friends to explore this abandoned place in the
- 1:34middle of the night, just to have some fun. Gathering my friends wasn
- 1:40' t complicated. Certainly, I kept in touch with them most of the
- 1:46time, but we had not met again in several years. However, when
- 1:51I mentioned the situation of the square and shared photographs of the place, we
- 1:56decided to meet as soon as possible. My friend and John was the first
- 2:00to arrive, followed by Jesus, who had not changed anything in years.
- 2:07Finally, Abel arrived, accompanied by a subject who, observing him more attentively,
- 2:12turned out to be the watchman of the place. Abel had managed to
- 2:16get us permission to spend a few hours of the night in the place,
- 2:22thus preventing us from entering illegally. However, the subject, whom I will
- 2:27call Victor, told us that once we entered we would only have a couple
- 2:32of hours, as the square closed. As soon as the mall closed its
- 2:37doors. After that, Victor would retire for dinner and come back at midnight
- 2:43just to open the door and get out was long enough. None of the
- 2:49four wanted to stay longer armed with flashlights, battery on cell phones and any
- 2:55other provision. We decided to wait for the mall to close its doors to
- 3:01get into what we certainly thought would be a good adventure. Finally, after
- 3:07a while of waiting, the moment the doors were closed, the four of
- 3:12us went into the gate across the street. We barely got in. We
- 3:17realized that time had stopped at that place. It was as if we were
- 3:23back in time watching all the children' s games that were there when we
- 3:30were students, the video machines turned off generated some restlessness and the smell of
- 3:35moisture. It just showed that he had spent a lot of time without activity.
- 3:38The watchman' s cry announcing that he would go to dinner was the
- 3:44last thing we heard before he closed the door. We looked at each other
- 3:49at the time. The idea that it might not have been the best idea
- 3:53of all came through my head, but when I noticed that Jesus was the
- 3:57first to take the first step, he gave me the courage to follow him.
- 4:01As we walked among the dusty benches where we ate before, we remembered
- 4:08old times, former companions and companions, as well as mischief that we came
- 4:14to do in our time. All of a sudden one was heard creaking in
- 4:18the distance. We knew it was due perhaps to the dilation of the objects,
- 4:25to the change of temperature or perhaps some rat. It was what kept
- 4:29us calm. A few meters ahead, there were already children' s games.
- 4:35With the flashlight I illuminated the face of what seemed to be the old
- 4:41carousel, the face of a worn character still smiled. Abel came up with
- 4:46the idea of getting on and taking a walk. John made him second and
- 4:50also climbed up when Jesus and I were about to participate. In the distance,
- 4:56one heard the laughter of a child, who as much as we were
- 5:00amazed, even though it was not heard near us. Listening to a child
- 5:04laughing at those hours and in the dark was not normal. John commented that
- 5:11it was perhaps the echo that was still preserved in the place, but that
- 5:15explanation did not really reassure us. Jesus commented that perhaps it was time to
- 5:20retire, but it took only a few minutes and they would not open the
- 5:25door for us. So we decided to continue, although now we did so
- 5:30with greater silence. We passed right into a plaground, a big game where
- 5:34children crawl between plastic tunnels through suspension bridges and slips. It was also full
- 5:42of dust. The truth I did not remember very little, or I did
- 5:46not pay much attention to it, but it was Jesus who told us that
- 5:50he did. We passed it by when suddenly we heard that someone ran over
- 5:57the suspension bridge the four s we turned around and pointed out the flashlights.
- 6:01Right to him. We could see the bridge was still wobbly. Juan exclaimed
- 6:06suddenly pointing to one end of the game, we could see the silhouette of
- 6:12a head, peeking out of one of the tubes and then hiding in the
- 6:15shadows. Juan commented that the safest thing was that it was a child who
- 6:20stayed there, that he had not left. But the truth was a very
- 6:25chilling place for someone so small to stay there. Just in case it wasn
- 6:31' t enough, it was heard that on the other side of the game
- 6:36someone was running and again the laughter of a child rang in our ears.
- 6:40All four of us curse. At the same time, being honest, I
- 6:44was already freaking out. We pointed out the lanterns in all directions, as
- 6:49the steps of not one but several children were heard everywhere. Abel told John
- 6:56that he was not only a child, but that many of them seemed to
- 7:00be dead. Jesus stepped forward and shouted at us to follow him and leave
- 7:04that place. No need to think about it. Twice we ran behind him,
- 7:11leaving behind the laughter of the children, just to get into the video
- 7:15game area. At that time, if one of the four had said he
- 7:20was withdrawing from the expedition, the others would have agreed. But I don
- 7:26' t think anyone dared to say it or prove they were afraid. We
- 7:30were already somewhat agitated when we just passed a video machine where Juan and I
- 7:35played. It was a dance machine. Juan got on it and invited me
- 7:42up too. I barely got hold of the protective bar. My hands were
- 7:47filled with dust. We knew it didn' t work, so we disguised
- 7:53a couple of steps, and right then, one of the continuous machines where
- 7:59we were turned on by itself. Abel said out loud that this could not
- 8:03be possible. The guard had assured us that there was no electrical power in
- 8:07the place. We approached to see and it had indeed lit itself. Abel
- 8:13searched for the power cable and found it disconnected. Suddenly the screen changed colors.
- 8:20We walked away from it and suddenly went out, like the flashlights,
- 8:26leaving us in the full darkness. The four of us tried to light the
- 8:31flashlights, hit them, took them off and put the batteries in, but
- 8:37none of the four of us lit again. Jesus already felt something desperate and,
- 8:41being honest, so was I. In that I could see how Abel
- 8:48pointed to one end. We realized that in the distance from there the silhouette
- 8:50of a person did not seem to move, it was only still. Everything
- 8:56seemed to indicate that he was targeting us. Juan greeted us by telling him
- 9:01that we had permission to be there, but the silhouette did not move at
- 9:05all. The tense silence surrounding us and the immobile figure in the distance gave
- 9:11us an increasingly intense sense of discomfort. We were wondering who or what might
- 9:20be watching us from the dark. John tried to establish contact again, asking
- 9:24who he was, but the lack of response only increased our concern. Abel
- 9:31proposed moving in the opposite direction, trying to avoid any possible confrontation with the
- 9:37mysterious presence. Anyway, we had to go back where we came from,
- 9:43because it was the only way out. With every step we took in the
- 9:46dark, the atmosphere seemed to become denser as if the same darkness and dust
- 9:52were enveloping us. I was worried about the figure we saw in the distance.
- 9:58He was still standing without a mobile muscle, but he seemed attentive to
- 10:01every step we took. I began to notice that the shadows around us moved
- 10:07and that each object creaked in a terrifying way, without letting the demonic laughter
- 10:13go to what we would have previously found a logical explanation. Now we were
- 10:20just very afraid. Finally, we came back to the blackground. My sight
- 10:26had already become accustomed to the darkness and, apparently, also that of others,
- 10:30since we did not take our gaze from the game, fearing that some
- 10:33child would peek out and suddenly frighten us a terrifying noise behind us broke the
- 10:41silence. It was a demonic voice that told us to get the hell out
- 10:45of here. Making ourselves an altar of fright, we look in every direction
- 10:52trying to identify the origin of the sound, but we only find shadows and
- 10:56the echo of our own agitated breaths in s s or the figure we saw
- 11:03earlier appeared closer to just about four meters from where we were. Despite how
- 11:07close we were, he still couldn' t tell his face. However,
- 11:13out of nowhere he came very quickly to us and there we could see him
- 11:16well. He had a demonic face, lifeless eyes and his body deformed with
- 11:24his long arms that ended up in claws. In that, two brilliant orbs
- 11:28appeared in what appeared to be his head. I realized that it was time
- 11:33for us to leave, I asked my friends to keep moving forward, but
- 11:39each seemed absorbed in their thoughts, as if they were hypnotized. I tried
- 11:45to pull them, but it was impossible. They weren' t taking any
- 11:48steps. I looked at the dark figure and asked him to let us go.
- 11:52I promised her we' d be on our way all of a sudden.
- 11:56The silhouette blinked until it faded At my glance, Abel, Jesus and
- 12:03John reacted and began coughing everyone complained that they could not breathe and that they
- 12:07were stealing their breath. We left as fast as we could. As we
- 12:15walked towards the exit, we could hear that behind us the laughter of the
- 12:18children in the game began to be heard. I didn' t dare turn
- 12:24around. I went on my way out. Jesus was leaning on my shoulder,
- 12:28so quietly I asked him not to turn. We got to the food
- 12:33area. I looked at the clock and realized that it was only a few
- 12:37minutes before the watchman came back I noticed that the silhouette had reappeared, but
- 12:43this time he had stayed in the game. I don' t know if
- 12:46it was right what I did. After that, I came as close as
- 12:50I could to where the silhouette was and apologized for invading his place. Besides,
- 12:56I assured him that we would never do it again, but that he
- 13:00would please let us go. The figure didn' t answer me. However,
- 13:03it faded again before my eyes and, as by magic, the lanterns
- 13:07lit again, the shadow was again the same and the feeling of fear was
- 13:13still latent, but we knew that things would be quieter from now on,
- 13:18with the return of light, our hearts were filled with relief, even though
- 13:24fear was still clinging to our thoughts. However, we knew that we had
- 13:33managed to get unharmed out of an experience that we would never forget. We
- 13:37rushed out of the square, thanking in silence to have managed to escape from
- 13:41whatever had stalked us in the dark. Upon arriving at the exit, we
- 13:46met Victor, the vigilante, who watched us with an expression of surprise and
- 13:52concern, without stopping to explain what we had just lived. We went out
- 13:58quickly to the outside, where the moonlight and fresh air received us. Outside
- 14:03the square, we took a moment to catch our breath and process what had
- 14:09just happened. I could still hear the laughter of the children in my head
- 14:13and I know that my friends had a similar feeling. In the end we
- 14:20meet in the department of Juan to take a well- deserved rest and talk
- 14:24more calmly about our experience. Although none of us could fully explain what we
- 14:30had witnessed, we realized that there are things one cannot play with and it
- 14:35is better to leave. In the past, today, that place still exists
- 14:39and there have been documented cases of strange appearances on our part. We think
- 14:46they' re real. Written and adapted by the language of the sorcerer
