Transcript
- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by The Hypnotherapist, demanded by
- 0:16celebrities, CEOs and even royalty, Adam Cox.
- 0:20These recordings took place live from Evans Clinic in London's
- 0:24world famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:39Would you consider yourself superstitious?
- 0:42Adam here. And I was working with a client
- 0:45that had been following a superstitious thought pattern
- 0:49for almost 4 years. And it would really manifest
- 0:53itself when it came to them choosing the kind of clothing
- 0:57that they would wear. That if they didn't wear certain
- 1:00clothing, they would feel that something bad was going to
- 1:03happen. And it would feel like this
- 1:05element of dread, which would deter them from doing that.
- 1:09Because if something really bad could happen, and that feeling
- 1:12can go away just by changing your clothes, why not change
- 1:15your clothes? But the problem with that is
- 1:17that you then positively reinforce the relief of changing
- 1:22the clothes. And then that in a dialogue,
- 1:25which is quite often how superstition works, gets more
- 1:28powerful, more powerful, more powerful.
- 1:30So in this hypnosis session, what I use is an element of
- 1:35pattern interrupts. So like blurring what the
- 1:37clothes look like, but also changing the influence of the
- 1:40voice. And I asked this client, is
- 1:43there anyone from your past that you just wouldn't follow their
- 1:46advice? In fact, if they tried to advise
- 1:48you or influence you on something, it would probably
- 1:51lead you to doing the absolute opposite.
- 1:54And there was there was some people from their past that felt
- 1:56like that. So what we did and what you'll
- 1:59experience in this hypnosis session?
- 2:01Is changing the inner. Dialogue from the previous
- 2:04voice, which was very much like their own voice, but
- 2:06disassociated into the voice of someone from their past that had
- 2:10no credibility, that couldn't influence them, that if they try
- 2:14to influence them, it would make them more defiant.
- 2:18So we've got that element going on, almost refining and updating
- 2:22that inner dialogue for them. But the inner dialogue wasn't
- 2:25everything that had a physical sensation, and that sensation
- 2:29was heat and tightness and pressure.
- 2:32And what they would do is they would feel that and they
- 2:34wouldn't like that feeling at all.
- 2:36And that would then encourage them to change their clothes, at
- 2:40which point that sensation went away.
- 2:44Now, that might feel strange if you've never experienced
- 2:47something like that, but a lot of people feel something
- 2:49similar. But it might be, for example, in
- 2:52their gut, you know, they're thinking about doing a speech
- 2:55and they feel these butterflies in their in their gut, and then
- 2:58they make an excuse and then that sensation goes away.
- 3:02So be careful what you reward. If you reward, let's say,
- 3:06deterrence and avoidance, expect more of those.
- 3:11This was rewarding the influence of a disassociated part.
- 3:17And there's an element here in this hypnosis session of giving
- 3:19it the narrative of being a false fear, a bad advisor,
- 3:25because it's not provably wrong. If someone in your life says,
- 3:30just imagine like an astrologer or someone tried to warn you of
- 3:35things and said, you know, don't wear black shoes today or
- 3:38something bad's going to happen. And every time you take that
- 3:41advice, well, you can't know if something bad didn't happen, if
- 3:47it was because you didn't wear the black shoes or not.
- 3:50It's not provably wrong. It's like the whole conspiracy
- 3:54theory of there being pink elephants are hiding in trees.
- 4:00And if someone says, well, you can't show me that there's any
- 4:04evidence that pink elephants are hiding in trees.
- 4:07And then you could say, because they're very good at hiding in
- 4:09trees. So these things that can't be
- 4:12provably wrong more often than not are just nonsense.
- 4:16So that element of being able to call the bluff of these kind of
- 4:20fears and superstitions is a liberating experience because
- 4:24once you've really done that, and you said, now I don't
- 4:27believe that, let's see what happens from a place of setting
- 4:30the intention that something amazing is going to happen.
- 4:33Well then it doesn't take long for all of that power to
- 4:36dissipate quickly because you just simply didn't reward the
- 4:40initial superstition or fear. You did your own thing anyway
- 4:44and everything worked out fine. Now, every now and then, of
- 4:47course there is the possibility that something bad does happen,
- 4:50but that's just life. Bad things happen all the time.
- 4:54That doesn't mean that there is a curse or bad luck or
- 4:57misfortune linked to what clothes you wear.
- 5:00What's more likely is just there's a statistical
- 5:02probability of something bad happening.
- 5:04You know, at any day, you know, we've all, you know, hurt
- 5:08ourself or kind of tripped over or something's happened.
- 5:12But what can happen is this really interesting thing called
- 5:14the belief cycle. If you believe that wearing
- 5:17certain clothes means that you're going to have something
- 5:20bad happen to you, and you really believe that one, that
- 5:24feeling may influence the choices that you make, a form of
- 5:27self sabotage or what's more likely.
- 5:30Is that if? Something happens that isn't
- 5:33great, you then attribute that to the fact that you did that
- 5:36thing. And this is a form of cognitive
- 5:40bias, that kind of confirmation bias, they would call it.
- 5:44And in my opinion, this is how a lot of horoscopes work.
- 5:47You read a. Horoscope about You know you're
- 5:49going to meet someone tall and attractive, and then you're
- 5:53suddenly looking for someone tall and attractive.
- 5:55And then when you find that tall and attractive person, your
- 5:58horoscope becomes true because the confirmation bias that took
- 6:01place. So there's lots of psychological
- 6:03principles taking place here. At its core, it is about
- 6:07liberating you from a unuseful, disempowering, superstitious
- 6:13belief that has become a ritual of comfort, not because there's
- 6:17any truth to it. Clearly this was created for an
- 6:20individual. It might be that your
- 6:22superstitions have nothing to do with clothes and might have
- 6:25something to do about how many times you flip a switch on and
- 6:29off on a on a light switch or with you avoid cracks in the
- 6:32pavement. If you are dealing with
- 6:34superstitions and it's getting too controlling in your life,
- 6:38it's worth clicking the link in the description, schedule a free
- 6:41consultation call with me, and then I can explain how my
- 6:44process could help with with your specific situation.
- 6:48But you might get some value from this one though, even
- 6:50though it was created for someone else so.
- 6:52Find a quiet. Comfortable place where you
- 6:54won't be disturbed. Relax and enjoy the session.
- 7:30Take a deep breath in, and as you breathe in, breathe in that
- 7:38feeling of calm relaxation, and as you exhale, feel a wonderful
- 7:46feeling of release, as if any tension, stress and worries are
- 7:53starting to leave your body. In your outward breath.
- 7:59As you breathe in and breathe out, just get a sense of how
- 8:05much easier it would be with your eyes closed.
- 8:10So on the next outward breath, allow your eyes to close, taking
- 8:17you deeper and deeper, relaxed. That's it.
- 8:26And the deeper you breathe, the more relaxed you feel and the
- 8:32more relaxed you feel the deeper you breathe, where each breath
- 8:39takes you deeper and deeper, relaxed.
- 8:50I want you to get a sense of really feeling breathing in,
- 8:56resource for relaxation on the inward breath and you're
- 9:01releasing any stress, tension or echoes of old behaviour that
- 9:11doesn't serve you anymore. Just leaving your body on that
- 9:16outward breath. Almost like each breath is
- 9:20clearing the static of the day, switching channels, moving you
- 9:28from the outer world to the inner world, from noise to
- 9:36signal, from chatter to clarity. And with your eyes closed, you
- 9:46may notice that familiar sensation of drifting inward,
- 9:52almost like stepping into a quiet hallway where every
- 9:57footstep becomes softer, slower and calmer.
- 10:06And with each breath, imagine going deeper into that hallway
- 10:14until the world behind you becomes faint and the world
- 10:20ahead becomes still. And I want you to imagine
- 10:31standing in front of a wardrobe. Maybe a wardrobe or a closet you
- 10:39recognize. Nothing changed, Not more
- 10:45elaborate. Not more basic.
- 10:50And I want you to get a sense that.
- 10:54As you. Open the wardrobe in the closet.
- 10:57Imagine every item inside it is blurred.
- 11:04You know how they do on videos where they blur a face, blur an
- 11:08image. Just imagine every item.
- 11:13Everything from a shirt, a suit, socks or underwear are all
- 11:20blurred, colours fading, edges softening, labels unreadable.
- 11:31Almost like the wardrobe is being reset to factory settings.
- 11:38Clothes just becoming fabric, fabric becoming just threads and
- 11:45threads becoming nothing more than neutral material.
- 11:52As you breathe in and breathe out.
- 11:55With each slow breath, I want you to feel that the wardrobe is
- 12:00losing meaning, losing significance, losing symbolism.
- 12:11Like a blank. Slate.
- 12:14A neutral canvas. Just something that is lost, any
- 12:24labels, meanings, narratives and even superstition.
- 12:35And I want you to imagine getting ready, perhaps in the
- 12:39morning, choosing those clothes. Everything is still blurred.
- 12:49And I want you to imagine that old internal narrator, the one
- 12:57steering your choices and decisions, now takes on a
- 13:04familiar voice. But not the usual voice.
- 13:10Introduce a voice of someone that carries no.
- 13:13Credibility with you. In fact, the more they try to
- 13:19influence your choices, the more defiant you would become.
- 13:27I want you to consider that voice as a voice with a poor
- 13:34track record. And I want you to imagine that
- 13:39voice perhaps just being there, like a floating voice, or maybe
- 13:45coming from a physical person there by your side or behind
- 13:51you, next to that wardrobe, that closet.
- 13:57Create a personification of that advisor.
- 14:05Give them a name, a look, a facial expression.
- 14:12And I want you to get a sense that you can't rely.
- 14:19I want that voice has to say because their warnings are based
- 14:28on a desire to control you, not to help you make good decisions,
- 14:36but just to be right. But how do you know if they're
- 14:40right if they could never be proven wrong?
- 14:46I want you to get a sense that you've rewarded this habit for
- 14:49years now, but now times are changing.
- 15:00Now when they try and influence, it just seems hollow.
- 15:07It seems outdated. It may even seem manipulative,
- 15:14controlling, but that tonality, that volume creates the opposite
- 15:22effect and just feel that defiance within you.
- 15:28The harder they try to influence, the more you desire
- 15:34to trust your judgement. Not that voice.
- 15:43And I want you to ask this in a narrator, calmly, clearly.
- 15:51How many times were your warnings wrong?
- 15:59See how it responds. And maybe it stumbles and
- 16:03fumbles and struggles to answer and you get a sense that this
- 16:10voice that you've been agreeing with was never because it was
- 16:16wise and it was never intuitive and never protective, just noisy
- 16:26and controlling, using fear and sensations to control your
- 16:34behaviour. And you can ask how many days
- 16:45did nothing happen? And that that part try to
- 16:53influence you to do something different.
- 16:59I want you to put this voice on trial, make it defend its
- 17:06approach and maybe it attempts to say, well, nothing bad
- 17:14happened because you followed my advice.
- 17:18Imagine laughing at the ludicrous nature of that
- 17:23statement. The nature of science, of that
- 17:34hypothesis, is that it can be proved wrong, otherwise it loses
- 17:43all credibility. So ask that voice, what proof do
- 17:51you have at all? And just get a sense that the
- 17:58whole narrative is like a House of Cards crumbling down because
- 18:05there is none. The illusion collapses.
- 18:15For centuries, sailors didn't venture too far in case they
- 18:22fell off the edge of the world. I'm sure that belief had real
- 18:30emotions, real fears. And yet, one day, a sailor
- 18:38decided to call the bluff of that idea.
- 18:46And once they did, the whole idea of falling off the edge of
- 18:51the world became laughable. And I want you to feel that this
- 18:57narrative is equally laughable. And all you need to do is prove
- 19:03it wrong. Not 100 times, but just once.
- 19:09And the illusion collapses. But an advisor that's used to
- 19:16being listened to may not go easily.
- 19:21They may create physical sensations.
- 19:25They're in your body. And if you follow those
- 19:30sensations, that false prophet still has power.
- 19:42And I want you to imagine defying the words and imagine
- 19:48feeling that sensation, maybe heat, maybe tightness, maybe
- 19:54pressure. And at the very point where it
- 19:58comes, imagine smiling big, a big smile, like you're being
- 20:04tested. Remember a time when you used to
- 20:08play chicken. Whoever backed down first lost.
- 20:13You're not going to back down this time.
- 20:18You're going to ride that sensation knowing that it can't
- 20:24last any more than a few seconds or minutes.
- 20:30And you're going to set the intention that you're going to
- 20:34have one of your best days in defiance of this control, this
- 20:41superstition. You're not going to believe the
- 20:46bullshit. And I want you to get a sense
- 20:50that every now and then, if this feeling comes up, you'll do
- 20:54something unexpected. Maybe some star jumps, a few
- 21:00press UPS shaking your body. And when you do something
- 21:06unexpected that doesn't. Follow the ritual.
- 21:09Of the past sending that sequence of dominoes in a
- 21:14different direction. This narrative only can exist if
- 21:26when it controls you, you allow it, and when it influences and
- 21:31intimidates you, you believe it. And when those things go,
- 21:37there's nothing left. I want you to think of a time, a
- 21:47time in the past where someone made a threat but couldn't back
- 21:50it up. And by calling their bluff, all
- 21:56of their power and influence was gone.
- 22:01This is now the situation, the words, the feeling is an
- 22:10opportunity for you to call their bluff.
- 22:16And in doing so, you are saying that you trust your instincts
- 22:23more than you believe false fears.
- 22:27And just imagine putting on the clothes in direct defiance for
- 22:37that advisor and going on to have an exceptionally good day.
- 22:47And if you could imagine what that would be like, let me know
- 22:49by nodding your head. And imagine you've done that for
- 22:56a month or two of wearing what you like, when you like it,
- 23:05calling the bluff of any in a dialogue sensations.
- 23:12How difficult? Would it be?
- 23:14For it to have any. Influence over you.
- 23:16Two months from now when you've defied it every time, if
- 23:26anything unfortunate happens. Your immediate.
- 23:29Thought will be every now and then unfortunate things happen.
- 23:37It is a statistical certainty that every now and then
- 23:41unfortunate things will happen. But you will laugh at the idea.
- 23:48That it's your. Clothing choices that had
- 23:51anything to do with it. It's just statistics, numbers
- 23:59and chance. Nothing more if your
- 24:04unconscious. Agrees with this.
- 24:06New way of framing things, thinking about things, diluting
- 24:12the credibility of this voice and dialling up your own sense
- 24:18of certainty as to what parts of your intuition you will trust
- 24:24and which ones lack the credibility.
- 24:27Let me know by nodding your head.
- 24:31That's it. And imagine leaving that closet,
- 24:38that wardrobe, going back down the hallway, and imagine
- 24:43floating back all the way into your own physical body, in the
- 24:48here and the now, with awakened neural pathways looking forward.
- 24:57For you to. Call that bluff.
- 25:01Take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your
- 25:05nose. Wiggle your fingers, wiggle your
- 25:08toes. Connect and calibrate into the
- 25:10here and the now as I now count from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken
- 25:16you. Starting to count 123 waking up
- 25:23456 more alert 7-8. Open your eyes.
