- 0:01Matthew chapter 15, let us pray, Lord, our God who is in heaven.
- 0:11Lord, I pray that you will come or send the Holy Spirit.
- 0:17Lord, break out. Father, I pray in the name of
- 0:20Jesus for many people to be healed and whole.
- 0:24God, help us, Lord, in this time, help us.
- 0:28God, I pray in the name of Jesus, Holy Spirit, that you
- 0:32will help us. Teach us today.
- 0:35Lord, teach us your words, Teach us your thoughts.
- 0:38Teach us the mind of Christ. Father, I pray, Lord Jesus, that
- 0:43families will be made whole. Lord, I pray for marriages to be
- 0:48made whole. God, I pray for bodies to be
- 0:51healed and made whole in the name of Jesus Christ.
- 0:55Lord, I pray that as we open up your word today, I pray that you
- 1:00will be well pleased. Father, I pray in the name of
- 1:03Jesus for this to go out to the ends of the earth, Father, and
- 1:08call people to yourself. Call people into the fold.
- 1:13Call people into the Kingdom. Lord, I pray that today will be
- 1:17the day of salvation for many. Lord, I pray that we will not
- 1:21play games, Lord, with you, but we will be authentic and real.
- 1:26We will be transparent and raw. Lord, I pray in the name of
- 1:31Jesus that you help us, Lord, help us to lay down all of our
- 1:36preconceived ideas. Help us to lay down all of our
- 1:42past, Lord, all of the trauma, Lord, all of the things that
- 1:46keep us from experiencing the fullness that you have for us.
- 1:52Lord, I pray in the name of Jesus that you will help us,
- 1:55Father, help us to move in obedience.
- 1:58Help us to love you more. Help us to love our neighbors as
- 2:03ourselves. God, I pray that you will come
- 2:08and wreck and ravish us with your presence today.
- 2:12Lord, I pray that you will reveal eternal truths to us
- 2:16today. Lord, I pray that you, Father,
- 2:19will be the teacher and be the guide.
- 2:21Lord, as we open up Your word, let us hide it in our hearts.
- 2:25Father, we know, Lord, that You can do anything.
- 2:29We know, Father, that You are moving in our midst.
- 2:32Lord, we know, Father, that You are all powerful and ever
- 2:37present, and You are all knowing.
- 2:39And God, you seek our hearts, You seek our minds.
- 2:43Lord, you search us out. Father, your eyes Rove to and
- 2:47fro over the face of the earth. God, we are sold out, lay down
- 2:52lovers of you. Yeshua, we are sold out, lay
- 2:57down lovers of you. Yahweh, we are sold out, lay
- 3:01down lovers of Holy Spirit. Yes, we pray for a filling
- 3:08today. Lord, we pray that today is the
- 3:11turning point for many. Lord, we pray, God, that you
- 3:16will have your way. Have your will.
- 3:19Lord, let us step in to your will today.
- 3:22Let us step in to what you have for us today.
- 3:25And Lord, I pray that all of the world, Lord, every single man,
- 3:34woman and child will cry out that Jesus is Lord.
- 3:40And we cry out, Maranatha, come, Lord, come.
- 3:44You are coming. You have come.
- 3:46So we thank you for Jesus. We thank you for the sacrifice
- 3:51on the cross. We thank you for our salvation.
- 3:54We thank you that where you are we will be also.
- 3:57We thank you that we will drink from the fruit of the vine with
- 4:01you, Father. We thank you that you will
- 4:03prepare a banquet for us in the presence of our enemies.
- 4:06We thank you, Lord, that you are good and you are great.
- 4:12You are awesome in power and awesome in might, and awesome
- 4:16indeed. Lord, I pray that you will
- 4:22continue to push the church along.
- 4:25God, in the gates of hell will not prevail against it.
- 4:28Lord, let us be strengthened in this hour.
- 4:32Lord, let us put on the full armor today.
- 4:35God, I pray that you'll put somebody in our path that we can
- 4:38share our testimony with today. Thank you, Father, for all the
- 4:42many blessings that you continue to pour out on us each and every
- 4:45day. Thank you for another day to
- 4:47come and learn about you. Thank you for another day to
- 4:51come and sit at your feet. Thank you for another day,
- 4:54Father, to learn eternal truths, Father, and apply those truths
- 4:59and obey them. Lord, hide me and hide my words.
- 5:03Hide my thoughts. God, I decrease as you increase.
- 5:08Yeshua, I decrease as you increase and I just pray Lord,
- 5:16that you'll say what it is that you want to say to this
- 5:20generation in this hour and this day.
- 5:24God empty me of myself and fill me Holy Spirit with your words.
- 5:30In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
- 5:34Let's start in verse one. And then came to Jesus scribes
- 5:42and Pharisees which were of Jerusalem saying imagine that.
- 5:48Imagine all of these religious leaders steeped in tradition and
- 5:53they see this rogue St. preacher and they are trying to set him
- 5:57up. This is not a friendly
- 5:59conversation. They were using so many of their
- 6:03laws and bylaws and the traditions that were handed
- 6:06down, these oral traditions that they were protecting and they
- 6:10were exacting over the masses and they were more in love with
- 6:16what the rabbi's had to say. They were more in love with all
- 6:20their little loopholes in the legal system than they were with
- 6:24God's Word. And just so everyone knows,
- 6:27God's Word Trump's everything. It is not God's word plus
- 6:32anything. It is Genesis to Revelation.
- 6:37It is the infallible, inerrant word of God that has the final
- 6:40authority upon your life, friend.
- 6:42It is not God's Word plus what some preacher has said.
- 6:47It's not God's word plus some book that you read.
- 6:51It is not God's word plus the book of Mormons.
- 6:55It's not God's Word plus the Watchtower Society.
- 6:59It's not God's Word plus the Catechism.
- 7:04It's not God's word plus any of it.
- 7:07It is the inherent, inherent and fallible word of God.
- 7:11It is the Holy Bible that is the complete and final authority
- 7:16over the land and over the world and over all the generations.
- 7:21It is God's Word that speaks. It is the only publication that
- 7:28has the ability to predict itself in the manner that it
- 7:34does. It is alive and it is active and
- 7:37you do not read it. It reads you.
- 7:39And here, these legalists and these liberals, here they are
- 7:45coming together and they are trying to trap Jesus.
- 7:49Let's see what he has to say here, friends, first two, why do
- 7:54your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders?
- 7:58For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread.
- 8:02So there was the traditions there that said that if a man
- 8:06does not wash his hands before he eats, he is no different than
- 8:10a man that lies with a prostitute.
- 8:13And here they were trying to trap Jesus.
- 8:16They were not truly concerned with hygiene.
- 8:20Don't miss it. 3 But he answered and said unto them, Why do you
- 8:26also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?
- 8:30Tradition. So he's flipping, he's flipping
- 8:33the script here. He is calling them out.
- 8:36He is answering your question with the question and Jesus was
- 8:40good at this. Jesus knew their intention.
- 8:43Jesus could read their minds. He knew their hearts friends.
- 8:47He knew that they were trying to trap him.
- 8:49He was not going to fall for it. He's so perfect.
- 8:52Look at the way that he answers them.
- 8:54He says, why do you transgress the commandment of God?
- 8:58What was the the commandment that they were transgressing for
- 9:02for God command and saying honor your father and mother and he
- 9:08that curses father or mother, let him die the death.
- 9:12So here Jesus is showing them their hypocrisy.
- 9:17They're so worried about his disciples.
- 9:21They have come to try and spy on them.
- 9:24They are sitting there looking for any possible plausible way
- 9:30to trap Jesus in his words, in their traditions and legal
- 9:35system, and here Jesus is showing them that they are the
- 9:39ones who are guilty. 5 But you say, Whosoever shall say to his
- 9:47father or his mother, it is a gift, by whatsoever you might as
- 9:51be profited by me. 6 And honor not his father or his mother, he
- 9:57shall be free thus. Have you made the commandment of
- 10:10God of none effect by your tradition, you hypocrites?
- 10:14So here Jesus is showing them their hypocrisy.
- 10:19Jesus is saying that you try to sound super spiritual by saying,
- 10:23well whatever I would have given to my mother or father, I'm
- 10:27going to give it to God. And he's saying that they are
- 10:30worthy in the Mosaic law of death, that they are not
- 10:35honoring their father and mother because they're not actually
- 10:38giving it to God. It released them from any of
- 10:42their obligations to their parents by just trying to say
- 10:47that they were going to give it to God, but they actually were
- 10:49not. And Jesus knew their heart.
- 10:51He knew their little loopholes here.
- 10:53And he calls them out in verse 7.
- 10:55He says, you hypocrites. Well, did Isaiah prophecy of you
- 11:01saying, what did Isaiah say? He said verse 8, This people
- 11:07draws near unto me with their mouth and they honor me with
- 11:11their lips, but their heart is far from me.
- 11:15So here Jesus is recalling and recounting all the way back to
- 11:20the book of Isaiah. He's saying that they only
- 11:24outwardly look the part, but inwardly they are ravenous
- 11:28wolves. It's no different in our day and
- 11:31our our friends. 9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for
- 11:37doctrines the commandments of men.
- 11:40They were more concerned with the fear of man.
- 11:45They were more concerned with usurping their power over the
- 11:50masses than they were about trying to please God.
- 11:53And what a word for you and for me.
- 11:56And yes, everything is under the blood of Jesus.
- 11:59Yes, we are going to enter in only by that blood.
- 12:03Friends, however, God is watching us, God is refining us,
- 12:11and we would do well to always keep in mind God and what does
- 12:16His Word say and what does He desire?
- 12:19And what is the full counsel of God's Word?
- 12:22Not just what the traditions are taught and whatever kind of
- 12:26denomination you were brought up in.
- 12:28And those are the things that you hold fast to and you have
- 12:31your bylaws and you think that your way is the only way.
- 12:34And I would have you to know that God's Word is the Supreme
- 12:39authority over all denominations.
- 12:41It has nothing to do with all these divisions and sex,
- 12:46friends. This is God's Word, the
- 12:48infallible, inerrant word of God.
- 12:50And this is what we need to be so completely fixed upon.
- 12:56And we need to be purporting and teaching God's Word, not the
- 13:01traditions of men. Friends, we would do well to
- 13:05always keep in mind what God has to say about it all.
- 13:09But we need to be feeding ourselves.
- 13:12We do not need to be going and being spoon fed once a week,
- 13:17friends. We need to make sure that we
- 13:19know and own the Word of God. And I'm so thankful for those
- 13:23who have taken the faith journey with me, who are going in and
- 13:27digesting and they are actually reading God's word piece by
- 13:31piece. And the question remains, how do
- 13:33you eat an elephant? It's one bite at a time.
- 13:42We should not be overwhelmed by how vast this word is.
- 13:50We should not sit and think that it is too grand for us to
- 13:54understand. Many of us know a lot about
- 13:59different publications other than the Word of God.
- 14:03We could sit and talk about a lot of the books and movies and
- 14:09shows for hours and hours and sports and all the like, but we
- 14:14are not willing to dive in to the Word of God.
- 14:20And that is a word for you, friend.
- 14:22We need to be preoccupied with the Word of God.
- 14:25We do not need to be preoccupied with all the things of the
- 14:28world. Do not love the world or
- 14:31anything in the world. He calls them out for the
- 14:39doctrines of the commandments of men. 10 And he called the
- 14:42multitude, and he said unto them, Hear and understand.
- 14:47So he's giving the people, the multitudes, the chance to unstop
- 14:52their ears and to let the scales fall off of their eyes, to
- 14:57soften their hearts that have been hardened.
- 15:00He's saying hear and understand, and he says it right on the
- 15:04cusp, right on the tail end of saying that the hip, the
- 15:08hypocrites, their hearts were far from him, that they saw with
- 15:13their eyes, but they did not actually understand it.
- 15:15They were listening with their ears, but they could not
- 15:17actually hear and hear. He's giving the multitudes the
- 15:21opportunity to hear and understand.
- 15:25And he says that to you, friend. He says that to me.
- 15:29He wants us to hear and understand.
- 15:31He does not want us to harden our hearts as in the days of
- 15:34Rebellion 11 Not that which goes into the mouth defiles a man,
- 15:43but that which comes out of the mouth, This defiles a man.
- 15:48And for the Jewish audience here, this would have been a
- 15:53showstopper. When he says this, this would
- 15:57have went against their kosher laws.
- 16:01And here he is giving us a sneak peek into the lifting of all of
- 16:06the rules and regulations when it came to what we eat.
- 16:13Here is the beginning of that thought process for us who are
- 16:17on this side of the cross. And so therefore he's showing
- 16:22them that it is what they say that defiles them, because all
- 16:28the sins are first conceived, and they first are thought about
- 16:34before they ever acted out. And he warns us about that,
- 16:38friends, that out of the mouth flows the abundance of the
- 16:43heart. And you can see here.
- 16:45And he's telling them that it is not what they eat that defiles
- 16:50them, it is what they say. And God is way more in tune with
- 16:57your words than he is with what you're sitting and eating,
- 17:01Friends. 12 Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Do
- 17:07you not know that the Pharisees were offended after they heard
- 17:11this saying? This is a humorous remark.
- 17:15The disciples are questioning the Son of God.
- 17:19And if you remember at the end of the last chapter, when they
- 17:22were in the boat and he calmed all the storm in the sea and
- 17:26they said that this was the Son of God.
- 17:30They acknowledged his divinity and his deity.
- 17:33They acknowledged him. And here they're questioning
- 17:37him. And they're saying, do you not
- 17:41know that this is offensive? And I want you to know, friends,
- 17:44that the Word of God is an offense.
- 17:48We should not be worried about offending people. 13 But he
- 17:54answered and said, Every plant which my heavenly Father has not
- 17:59planted shall be rooted up. He's going to start talking
- 18:03about false doctrine. He's going to start talking
- 18:05about heresy. He's going to start talking
- 18:08about those that are pushing the false ideas of God's Bible, of
- 18:17God's word. He's going to start talking
- 18:20about all of the false traditions and what's he going
- 18:23to say about it? 14 Let them alone.
- 18:28They be blind leaders of the blind, and if the blind lead the
- 18:33blind, both shall fall into the ditch.
- 18:37He's saying that it will take care of itself.
- 18:39And I've said it many times, but everything is moving according
- 18:43to plan. If we could just get out of our
- 18:45own way, if we could just trust God Almighty, if we could just
- 18:50lean in to this word that you hold in your hands, then you
- 18:54will do well and you will finish well.
- 18:56And that should be our prayer, friends.
- 18:58Our prayer should be that God helps us finish this race.
- 19:04All of the false doctrines and the heresy will dissolve as time
- 19:11goes on. And God is, if you remember the
- 19:14wheat and the tares, God is allowing it and it serves a
- 19:18purpose, friends. And it is all prophetic, and God
- 19:22uses it to reveal the true intentions of man. 15 Then
- 19:34answered Peter, and said unto him, Declare unto us this
- 19:38parable, praise the Lord for Peter.
- 19:40Peter had a knack. You know, in all the lists of
- 19:44the disciples, Peter's always mentioned 1st And look at how
- 19:48Peter, who Jesus said he was going to build the church upon,
- 19:54and we'll touch on that. But look at how Jesus had a way
- 19:59of. Allowing Peter to be in on a lot
- 20:05of his thoughts. Look at how Peter had a knack
- 20:09for speaking up what others were thinking.
- 20:13Peter actually would say out loud and a lot of times he would
- 20:18stick his foot in his mouth, wouldn't he?
- 20:2116 And Jesus said, are you also yet without understanding?
- 20:27So this is Jesus looking at Peter, thinking, Peter, come on
- 20:32now, you should have it by now. But Peter wants to know.
- 20:35He wants Jesus to expound upon these truths so that he can know
- 20:41that he's teaching correctly, that he's not just teaching his
- 20:47own ideas, but he wants Jesus to make it plain. 17 Do not you yet
- 20:56understand that whatsoever enters in at the mouth goes into
- 21:02the belly, and it is cast out into the drought?
- 21:07So here Jesus is explaining to Peter the same thing that he
- 21:13explains to him later on when he's on the roof and he's in a
- 21:17trance and the sheet is let down and all of the animals are on
- 21:21it. And he says, get up, go kill and
- 21:24eat. And Peter says no, I would
- 21:26never. I would never.
- 21:28Here Peter is being told that it is not what he eats that makes
- 21:33him unclean. It's what comes out of his mouth
- 21:38that makes you unclean. Friends, we would do well to
- 21:41keep this principle in mind. Let no idol talk.
- 21:45Let nothing unwholesome come out of you, friends, only that which
- 21:50is useful for the building up. And he says that whatever we put
- 21:58in our bodies is going to come out the other side. 18 But those
- 22:03things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart,
- 22:08and they defile the man. Think of all of the sins that we
- 22:17allow to build up in our heart, and then they come bubbling up
- 22:23out of our mouth, friends. And that is what we need to cut
- 22:27it off at the root. We do not need to let it fester.
- 22:33We do not need to give it any place.
- 22:35Take every thought captive and make it obedient unto Christ. 19
- 22:42For out of the heart precedes evil thoughts, murders,
- 22:47adulteries, fornication, thefts, false witness, blasphemy.
- 23:04He makes it plain, doesn't he? What does he say?
- 23:07He says that it's in the heart that we store these things up
- 23:10before they're ever even committed.
- 23:13These acts are first given a place, a storage place in our
- 23:20hearts, and then it is where we talk about it right before we do
- 23:27it. And he's saying that it is in
- 23:30the heart that we are having our evil thoughts.
- 23:35It's in the heart that we're already storing up murderous
- 23:40intent. It's in the heart that we have
- 23:43started to fan the flame of adultery, of cheating on our
- 23:49spouses, of the lust of pornography.
- 23:54It's in the heart that we allow these things to take root,
- 23:59friends. It's in the heart that we have
- 24:04the fornications, which is all of the sexual deviances acted
- 24:12out. It's in the heart that we have
- 24:15already started to think about stealing things.
- 24:19It's in the heart that we are already thinking about lying to
- 24:25others. It's in the heart, friends,
- 24:27where we blasphemy God first. It's in the heart and he's
- 24:34telling us that all those things will be brought up to the
- 24:37surface whenever we are talking about them.
- 24:39It's what comes out of a man that defiles him and he tells us
- 24:44and he makes it very plain. And 19, what are the things that
- 24:47we need to be on guard for? And this is not just a
- 24:50checklist, friends. This is not just something that
- 24:54we could say, OK, I haven't done any of these things, so I'm in
- 24:56good standing with God. No, friends, this is just the
- 25:00tip of the iceberg. We must be holy because He is
- 25:05holy. We must put on His
- 25:06righteousness, friends, and have the mind of Christ.
- 25:10And it starts with taking every thought captive and making it
- 25:14obedient unto Christ, not giving any space within the six inches
- 25:20between your ears. Do not give any space to any
- 25:24thought that is not good and wholesome and lovely and pure.
- 25:28Friends think about these things and we think that we could just
- 25:35have the world and sprinkle Jesus in and it doesn't work
- 25:41that way. We need to be completely sold
- 25:43out to Him and he is good and we should not give any foothold to
- 25:49the devil and think that it's OK. 20 These are the things
- 25:56which defile a man. But to eat with unwashed hands
- 26:01does not defile a man. He makes it as plain as
- 26:05possible. Should we practice hygiene?
- 26:08Come on, friends, Yes, absolutely.
- 26:10That's not the question here. It never was the question.
- 26:13They were trapping him in the oral traditions of the rabbis of
- 26:18that day, in the laws of that day.
- 26:23And Jesus, in the best way possible, completely flips the
- 26:29script on them. And he shows them what is the
- 26:33mind of God and Christ and what we should be focused upon.
- 26:40And it is the things that we are talking about and we're joking
- 26:43about, and we think it's just in jest.
- 26:47But the reality is we're fanning the flames of all of those major
- 26:53offenses that will come about later on. 21 Then Jesus went
- 27:01from there and departed into the coast of Tyre Sidon.
- 27:06So here we're going to see a very interesting story and it
- 27:12has so much context and we need to really lock in to understand
- 27:18this Syrophoenician woman and what is the idea behind it.
- 27:23This is a true story and a true place, and this is a real person
- 27:30and this is something that actually happened and we're
- 27:34going to see why Jesus went here to tired Saddam 22 and beheld
- 27:40and behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coast and
- 27:45cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, you son of
- 27:51David, my daughter is grievously vexed with the devil.
- 27:55So here you can see in 21 and 22, you can see that Jesus is
- 28:03very intentional about going here.
- 28:05He did not just stumble upon this place.
- 28:07He knew what he was doing. He knew what he was about to
- 28:10encounter. And here this woman, this Sierra
- 28:13Phoenician woman, she's coming, and she is not a Jew and she is
- 28:18a Gentile, and she's like the Roman centurion, and she is
- 28:23coming to him. And here he has his Jewish
- 28:26disciples with him, and he's going into this Gentile land.
- 28:31And you can see God's heart is for the world.
- 28:34And there is a peculiar relationship with his chosen
- 28:37people, the Jews, and he's showing the Jewish people his
- 28:41heart for the entire world. And they do not need to be so
- 28:44completely hyper fixated upon themselves.
- 28:49They've got to take them their eyes off of themselves and
- 28:52actually look through the lens of what how God sees this world.
- 28:57And they were called to be a light unto the world and a
- 28:59priesthood unto the world and to share God Almighty Yahweh unto
- 29:05the world. That is their calling here.
- 29:07And you can see she uses this son of David, this messianic
- 29:13title that she has no claim to because she's not a Jew. 23 And
- 29:17he answered her not a word, but his disciples came and besought
- 29:23him, saying, Send her away, for she cries after us.
- 29:27Perhaps they were annoyed, perhaps they were entreating
- 29:31their master saying, send her away from here, tell her to go
- 29:35answer her some way, give her what she wants, or just tell her
- 29:39to go away. And here you can understand,
- 29:42it's the same heart of the disciples when they were telling
- 29:45Jesus, hey, just send the crowds away.
- 29:49It's getting late and there's nothing to eat in this remote
- 29:53place. Send them away.
- 29:55And Jesus has a different heart. And then just the heart that we
- 29:59need to cultivate within our own selves is to not see people as a
- 30:04distraction, to not see people as an obstacle.
- 30:08We need to see the relationships that God places in our path,
- 30:12friends, as the main thing that we're going to do for that day
- 30:17is to honor the Lord through the relationships, to worship the
- 30:20Lord through all the relationships of the imago day
- 30:24that we can see people made in the image of God.
- 30:27Friends, this is the heart of Jesus and he's increasing this
- 30:32woman's faith. He's increasing the dialogue by
- 30:35being quiet. He is not hard hardened, He is
- 30:38not being rude. He's increasing her faith here.
- 30:43And it is all for a purpose for the disciples to understand how
- 30:48they are to see the Gentiles. 24 But he answered and said, I am
- 31:02not sent, but unto the lost sheep of the House of Israel.
- 31:08If you remember, whenever he sent out the disciples, he said,
- 31:11Go unto the lost sheep of Israel.
- 31:15And yes, God had a plan for all the Gentiles, but first he
- 31:19wanted to make sure that he gave all the Jews the opportunity.
- 31:26And that is what Jesus is referencing here.
- 31:28He's saying that the Gentiles time, the church has not been
- 31:32built yet. It has not been established at
- 31:35this time. And you can see it being hinted
- 31:38at throughout these passages here.
- 31:41But you can see it was at this time that Jesus is saying to
- 31:44this Syrophoenician woman, He's saying it is to the lost sheep
- 31:50of Israel is the ministry that he is is doing at this time.
- 31:58It is the ministry that he is involved with at this moment.
- 32:03And yes, he has the whole world on his mind at this time, but he
- 32:08is very intentional to make sure that the Jews have no excuse as
- 32:15to say that they did not know that the Messiah was with them.
- 32:18He was revealing to the Jews first 25 and then came she and
- 32:27worshipped him, saying, Lord help me.
- 32:39The longer that the Lord allows us to tarry with Him and to
- 32:45learn more about Him, the more and more you're going to see
- 32:49that this is the prayer that we need to have on our lips
- 32:53throughout the day. There are a couple passages that
- 32:57the Lord has revealed to me and they are to take every thought
- 33:02captive, make them obedient unto Christ.
- 33:05They are to not worry about anything, but to pray about
- 33:08everything. They are to rejoice always and
- 33:11pray without ceasing. And this is what it looks like
- 33:14to pray without ceasing. It is just a very simple prayer
- 33:19that we should have on our lips daily from the moment we wake up
- 33:23till the moment we go to bed, even while we're sleeping.
- 33:28It's Lord help me. And she is saying, Lord help me.
- 33:36She is worshipping him. She has changed her title from
- 33:40Son of David to Lord. And this is whenever the Lord
- 33:47sees that her faith has been increased and she no longer
- 33:50tries to take claim of being in the Jewish lineage that a lot of
- 33:56the Jews had wrong because they thought they were going to get
- 33:59saved. Because their lineage from
- 34:01Abraham and Jesus had to come and show them that they were
- 34:06going to bust hell wide open if they did not put their faith in
- 34:10the Lord Jesus Christ, that they could not lean in on their
- 34:14lineage of Abraham. And here Jesus is showing this
- 34:18Syrophoenician woman that she cannot claim him as the son of
- 34:22David. She must see him as Lord.
- 34:30And that should be our prayer. Lord help me. 26 And he answered
- 34:35and said, It is not meat to take the children's bread and to cast
- 34:40it to dogs. Here you might think that Jesus
- 34:46is called this Cyrophoenician woman and Gentiles at large as
- 34:51dogs, but what we miss out on is the context.
- 34:57He is referencing here a very gentle word towards her, and he
- 35:06is being very kind in this moment to this woman. 27 And she
- 35:13said, truth, Lord. Yet the dogs eat of the crumbs
- 35:17which fall from their master's table.
- 35:20So you can see here that these were these were the pets.
- 35:25These were what we are so incredibly gentle towards, and
- 35:33Jesus was being gentle towards this lady, and she's saying that
- 35:38the dogs get to eat the crumbs which fall from their master's
- 35:41table in 28. Jesus answered and said unto
- 35:46her, O woman, great is your faith, be it unto you even as
- 35:51you will. And her daughter was made whole
- 35:54from that very hour. It was the faith of this Gentile
- 35:57woman. And Jesus looked square at her
- 36:01and said, how great is your faith?
- 36:06And it is because the faith of this woman.
- 36:09And it was, you can see it increasing as the Scriptures go
- 36:13on. You can see it as she was going
- 36:17along. And he was silent.
- 36:20And then he tried to show her that he had just come at this
- 36:25present moment to speak to all the Jews, all the tribes of
- 36:30Israel, to the lost sheep of Israel.
- 36:33And then through a gentle rebuke, he shows her that it's
- 36:40not OK for him to give their meat to the dogs.
- 36:46And then she and her very persistent way, she says yes,
- 36:51but even the dogs get to eat the crumbs from underneath their
- 36:54master's table. And this is a picture of what it
- 36:57looks like to not give up, to grab a hold of him and refuse to
- 37:03leave until He blesses you. This is what it looks like,
- 37:07friends, to be persistent in our prayer life.
- 37:10To never give up, to not just accept the silence from God, but
- 37:16to keep pressing in. And God will answer.
- 37:21We should always believe that God wants to heal. 29 And Jesus
- 37:29departed from there, and came near unto the Sea of Galilee,
- 37:32and went up into a mountain, and sat down there.
- 37:37So here we're going to get to understand the heart of Jesus,
- 37:42and the multitudes being healed. 30 And great multitudes came
- 37:46unto him, having with them those that were lame, and blind, and
- 37:51dumb and maimed, and many others, and cast them down at
- 37:55Jesus's feet, and he healed them.
- 37:58What power flows from this man? Look at how the Lord Jesus
- 38:02Christ, He came as all man and all God, and He was able to heal
- 38:08them, even the maimed, the dumb and the blind and the lame. 31
- 38:14in so much that the multitude wondered when they saw the dumb
- 38:17speak and the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the
- 38:23blind to see, And they glorified the God of Israel.
- 38:28Think about it, friends. Think about what these words are
- 38:30actually saying. Think about the picture that
- 38:32they are painting. Think about the reality that
- 38:35this was actually happening. Think of the multitudes being
- 38:38healed here. How amazing is our God, and we
- 38:42should glorify Him in the highest. 32 And then Jesus
- 38:50called his disciples unto him, and said, I have compassion on
- 38:54the multitude, because they continue with me now three days,
- 38:59and have nothing to eat, and I will not send them away fasting
- 39:03unless they faint in the way. So here we can see that these
- 39:07were two separate events from the feeding of the 5000, the
- 39:11feeding of the 4000. The 5000 were predominantly
- 39:15Jewish and the 4000 were predominantly Gentile and they
- 39:21were with Jesus for three days, whereas the 5000 it was only a
- 39:26day. You could see that these were
- 39:28two separate events. Friends, we can see the God's
- 39:32heart here and look at how the disciples at this time they had,
- 39:35they didn't come up and say what are we going to do?
- 39:37Jesus goes to them and says, I have compassion upon them, And
- 39:42they had been with him for three days. 33 And his disciples say
- 39:46unto him, Where should we have so much bread in the wilderness
- 39:54as to fill so great a multitude? So here little faith comes
- 39:59about. What they're looking for is what
- 40:03God is looking for in US and in them is great faith, but they
- 40:07have little faith at this moment.
- 40:10Which is better than no faith. And Jesus said unto them, how
- 40:14many loaves do you have? And they said seven and a few
- 40:19little fish. Wow.
- 40:21We saw in the feeding of the 5000 that there were five
- 40:25loaves. Here they have 7 loaves. 35 And
- 40:29he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground.
- 40:32So this is a picture of the banquet of God.
- 40:35They are to sit and to enjoy themselves. 36 And he took the
- 40:40seven loaves and the fish, and he gave thanks, and he broke
- 40:44them, and he gave to his disciples, and the disciples to
- 40:47the multitude. So the disciples were dispersing
- 40:50all the abundance just from Jesus, touching and blessing it
- 40:55and thanking God for it. 37 And they did all eat and and were
- 40:59filled, and they took up the broken meat that was left 7
- 41:03baskets full. So we can see these were a
- 41:08different kind of basket than the feeding of the 5000. 38 And
- 41:14they that did eat were 4000 men, besides the women and children.
- 41:2039 and will end here. And he sent away the multitude
- 41:23and took ship and came into the coast of Magdala.
- 41:34What an amazing story this is. And when we don't just gloss
- 41:39over and think of it as a cool Bible story, when we actually
- 41:43see it as authentic and true and real and that it actually
- 41:50happened, we get to experience it in the mind and we get to
- 41:56imagine it and we can see it all playing out.
- 42:00And it's not just a cool story in a historical book.
- 42:04This is God's word, and it's trustworthy and true.
- 42:07And we can know that we know that we know that we know that
- 42:11this is what happened. How cool is our God?
- 42:17How amazing is our Lord? He's so incredible.
- 42:20I hope you've been blessed by this chapter here, Matthew.
- 42:24I know I sure have. I'm praying for every single one
- 42:29of you, and I love you and so does God.
- 42:37We'll see you back here tomorrow.
- 42:40God bless you.
