- 0:00Speaker 1: Guess who?
- 0:02Speaker 2: It's 10 o'clock. Do you care where your parents are?
- 0:04Speaker 3: The following feature has been rated R by the Motion
- 0:06Speaker 3: Picture Association of America.
- 0:08Speaker 4: It is intended for mature audiences and parental discretion is advised.
- 0:20Speaker 4: Emergency alert. Defense Corps forces reported just moments ago. This
- 0:26Speaker 4: is not a drill.
- 0:27Speaker 5: Repeat, this is not the drill.
- 0:29Speaker 4: At this time, we are requesting the immediate and orderly
- 0:33Speaker 4: evacuation of the vicinity.
- 0:36Speaker 6: The Coast Guard and the Navy have been alerted and
- 0:38Speaker 6: are standing by on the eastern seaboard.
- 0:41Speaker 2: And it continues to burn out of control.
- 0:43Speaker 7: It has been regular. Every five to ten minutes, there
- 0:46Speaker 7: has been another convoy of units, fire companies, paramedics.
- 0:50Speaker 8: A citywide emergency has been declared.
- 0:52Speaker 4: Police officers are still on tactical full alert. 2,000 National
- 0:57Speaker 4: Guardsmen are standing by.
- 0:58Speaker 9: Air defense warning read.
- 1:01Speaker 4: We're doomed!
- 1:04Speaker 9: It's time for Movie Meltdown's Attack of the Killers soundtrack.
- 1:08Speaker 3: The live transmission has begun, and we're into the final
- 1:12Speaker 3: hour of hell.
- 1:12Speaker 10: MUSIC What's up, and welcome to Movie Meltdown's Attack of
- 1:35Speaker 10: the Killers soundtrack. I am Brian, and we're coming to
- 1:38Speaker 10: you live via digital recording from Fourcastle, the wonderful Louisville,
- 1:43Speaker 10: Kentucky music festival. And joining me this year, once again,
- 1:47Speaker 10: it's been a year or so, but we're back with
- 1:50Speaker 10: Justin Angry Blue, how do you like to bill yourself?
- 1:54Speaker 6: Either way. Angry Blue sounds way cooler.
- 1:57Speaker 5: Okay, Justin.
- 1:59Speaker 6: Damn it.
- 2:00Speaker 5: Right off the bat.
- 2:02Speaker 10: So, yeah, two years ago, I think we kicked things off.
- 2:07Speaker 5: Yeah, so it's back again. How has it been?
- 2:10Speaker 6: It's good. It's warm, but it always is, so that's
- 2:13Speaker 6: just a boring response. It's fun. I always love doing this.
- 2:19Speaker 6: My favorite dumb moment so far. It took me three
- 2:25Speaker 6: requests from people coming in and asking if I had big,
- 2:28Speaker 6: gigantic posters to realize that they weren't asking for exceptionally
- 2:35Speaker 6: large posters.
- 2:36Speaker 5: Why didn't you have 27x40s? Is that too much to ask?
- 2:39Speaker 6: I thought what I had was large enough, but again,
- 2:43Speaker 6: I find myself at a point in my life where I.
- 2:47Speaker 5: Don't think I measure up. I'm going to have to
- 2:49Speaker 5: go to therapy now. Big, gigantic. One of the bands
- 2:52Speaker 5: playing at this here festival.
- 2:54Speaker 11: Yep.
- 2:55Speaker 6: I was excited until I heard them.
- 2:57Speaker 5: Yeah, we might work them in before the show's over with.
- 3:01Speaker 5: I found a track.
- 3:02Speaker 10: There's some other stuff. They teamed up with somebody, and
- 3:06Speaker 10: I like it. So maybe they just need to partner
- 3:08Speaker 10: up with more people.
- 3:09Speaker 6: But that was actually my beef, is most of their
- 3:11Speaker 6: songs seem to be, hey, you know this song you like?
- 3:15Speaker 6: We put some stuff on top.
- 3:16Speaker 10: Well, this one, somebody else came in and added stuff
- 3:18Speaker 10: entirely on top of theirs, and I really liked it.
- 3:22Speaker 10: Maybe we'll get back to that. In the meantime, I'd say,
- 3:25Speaker 10: have you seen any other bands you like? But I
- 3:27Speaker 10: believe I know you haven't seen any bands.
- 3:28Speaker 6: No, I've been kind of chained to my tent. I
- 3:31Speaker 6: really wanted to go see Danny Brown and totally missed
- 3:33Speaker 6: out on that. Last night, Miss Happy Pink and I
- 3:36Speaker 6: got to go see Alabama Shakes, and I happened to
- 3:39Speaker 6: have an artist pass, so we got to act like
- 3:41Speaker 6: we weren't garbage people and go into the VIP section
- 3:44Speaker 6: and get slightly closer, and it was amazing.
- 3:49Speaker 10: She has a phenomenal voice. She's a beast. Yeah, it's amazing.
- 3:54Speaker 10: I think that's how we should kick things off. So, yeah,
- 3:58Speaker 10: since we're discussing her, that's how I was going to
- 4:01Speaker 10: kick things off anyway, because I think that's one of
- 4:04Speaker 10: the best uses of a song in a movie, and
- 4:08Speaker 10: perfectly suits the movie, and was like, I might have
- 4:13Speaker 10: heard the name before then. But I feel like the
- 4:15Speaker 10: song itself is like an announcement of the band. If
- 4:20Speaker 10: you're not already familiar with Alabama Shakes, in the middle
- 4:25Speaker 10: of this song, they're just like, no, really, this is it.
- 4:28Speaker 10: This is who we are, and we're kind of badass.
- 4:31Speaker 10: And I don't know how you can come away from
- 4:33Speaker 10: it and not be like, oh, yeah, that band. So
- 4:35Speaker 10: it's like everything after that has been trying to catch
- 4:37Speaker 10: up to this song for me. So this is Always Alright,
- 4:41Speaker 10: which is badass. And once again showcases Britney's voice. And
- 4:45Speaker 10: it's coming from, and David O. Russell has a thing
- 4:49Speaker 10: for them because he's used them in the last couple
- 4:51Speaker 10: of movies. It's from Silver Linings Playbook and also kind
- 4:56Speaker 10: of fits that character. The weird, messed up Bradley Cooper character.
- 5:00Speaker 10: He needs an always alright kind of song.
- 5:02Speaker 6: I don't remember really paying attention to that soundtrack. I
- 5:05Speaker 6: remember actually being surprised that I liked the movie.
- 5:08Speaker 5: Because it was pretty great.
- 5:08Speaker 6: I walked away. I still actually have a post-aftertaste of
- 5:12Speaker 6: it being good.
- 5:13Speaker 5: I went in with kind of like, eh, you know, whatever.
- 5:15Speaker 10: And I was really kind of impressed at how effective just... Again,
- 5:20Speaker 10: I think I hadn't decided on David O. Russell in
- 5:23Speaker 10: general at that point. So that was sort of the
- 5:24Speaker 10: one I went, oh no, he's pretty damn talented. I
- 5:28Speaker 10: like Three Kings, but it'd been a while and I
- 5:30Speaker 10: missed some of the middle ones. And I came back,
- 5:31Speaker 10: I was like, no, there's a reason they keep giving
- 5:33Speaker 10: him all these damn Oscar nominations.
- 5:35Speaker 5: He's pretty talented.
- 5:36Speaker 6: Fine, okay.
- 5:37Speaker 10: So I guess you and your pal Jen can come
- 5:40Speaker 10: on and win an.
- 5:41Speaker 5: Oscar or whatever, but.
- 5:43Speaker 10: But yeah, I think this song perfectly fits that movie.
- 5:48Speaker 4: ¶ ¶ You come upstairs, but not the top.
- 6:16Speaker 5: You stay a little while.
- 6:17Speaker 4: And you do a little walk on home. I hear
- 6:21Speaker 4: you downstairs smoking cigarettes.
- 6:24Speaker 12: I hear you talking shit, because you ain't got nothing
- 6:27Speaker 12: to talk about at all.
- 6:29Speaker 4: So you took me to the party.
- 6:34Speaker 5: And you feel.
- 6:36Speaker 4: Like you've already explored.
- 6:41Speaker 12: Well, I don't care, I can't pay to teach, and
- 6:44Speaker 12: I don't give.
- 6:46Speaker 4: A damn about your intentions at all. Ooh! Ooh!
- 7:06Speaker 12: Well, pass me the whiskey, pass me the gin, pass
- 7:10Speaker 12: me whatever the drink left in.
- 7:13Speaker 4: Well, I don't care if it's seven in the morning,
- 7:18Speaker 4: all I care could be the second coming.
- 7:27Speaker 13: You can't live like this It's a really big deal Well.
- 7:32Speaker 4: I don't care, I can't pay the tips And.
- 7:36Speaker 14: I don't give a fuck about your chances at all.
- 8:14Speaker 4: Thank you. We're always all right. We're all right. We're
- 8:55Speaker 4: always all right. We're all right. We're always all right,
- 9:00Speaker 4: all right.
- 9:36Speaker 9: You poor social skills. You have a problem.
- 9:38Speaker 5: I have a problem?
- 9:39Speaker 15: You say more inappropriate things than appropriate things.
- 9:41Speaker 5: You scare people.
- 9:42Speaker 9: I tell the truth, but you're mean.
- 9:44Speaker 4: What, I'm not telling the truth?
- 9:46Speaker 6: I love when there's genius sound design or character design
- 9:50Speaker 6: just by the soundtrack.
- 9:51Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 9:52Speaker 10: I mean, it is, and I keep seeing this, having
- 9:56Speaker 10: created this music show.
- 9:57Speaker 5: Now it's funny how much I don't know how to
- 9:59Speaker 5: read it.
- 10:00Speaker 10: There are so many directors that are just it's kind
- 10:03Speaker 10: of their thing like you know before i'd always been
- 10:05Speaker 10: like oh scorsese he's you know just a hardcore you
- 10:08Speaker 10: know if you're into film you love scorsese but the
- 10:11Speaker 10: fact that scorsese's so hardcore into creating a soundtrack oh
- 10:14Speaker 10: it's a complete underlying like Accent to the entire narrative.
- 10:19Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 10:19Speaker 5: It's beautiful. What do I do and how do I
- 10:21Speaker 5: work the Rolling Stones into this? Well, he's the only.
- 10:25Speaker 6: Guy that they will possibly ever license to because they
- 10:27Speaker 6: just don't do that.
- 10:28Speaker 5: Because, well, he's Scorsese, so they're like, all right, fine.
- 10:31Speaker 6: I think, seriously, they will not talk to anybody else.
- 10:35Speaker 6: You can use Gimme Shelter as much as you want.
- 10:38Speaker 6: And he always does. And it's badass, so it's okay.
- 10:42Speaker 11: So.
- 10:44Speaker 5: Again, it's been two years. I threw that question out.
- 10:46Speaker 10: Do you have any songs that spring to mind when
- 10:50Speaker 10: you're like, movies, songs?
- 10:51Speaker 5: Is there one that just immediately like, oh yeah, that's
- 10:54Speaker 5: my thing?
- 10:55Speaker 6: Just Flashdance.
- 10:57Speaker 5: Which do you want?
- 10:58Speaker 10: Okay, maybe it's trying to think. Which way were you going?
- 11:02Speaker 10: The Jennifer Beals route?
- 11:04Speaker 5: Is that your go-to? Or you're going Maniac? Classic.
- 11:07Speaker 6: Yeah, Maniac.
- 11:09Speaker 5: You can't fight Maniac.
- 11:11Speaker 6: I mean, you just can't.
- 11:12Speaker 7: I told you not to go out tonight.
- 11:14Speaker 3: You are about to face the screen's most horrifying challenge.
- 11:18Speaker 16: I see something.
- 11:18Speaker 4: Now let's get out of here. Somebody out there.
- 11:22Speaker 3: You're about to face.
- 11:25Speaker 16: Maniac.
- 11:27Speaker 3: Tonight won't be like other nights. Tonight, terror is waiting.
- 11:32Speaker 4: Something's out there. Vicious, without pity.
- 11:36Speaker 3: Turning the earth thick with fear. A madman's out there.
- 11:40Speaker 4: A step too quick.
- 11:42Speaker 3: Dangerously strong, and your blood will stain the dark streets.
- 11:48Speaker 3: You are about to experience horror more real than anything
- 11:51Speaker 3: you could ever imagine.
- 12:04Speaker 14: Locking rhythms to the beat of her heart. Changing women
- 12:09Speaker 14: into light. She has danced into the danger zone. When
- 12:14Speaker 14: the dancer becomes the dance. It can cut you like
- 12:20Speaker 14: a knife. If the gift becomes the fire. On a
- 12:25Speaker 14: wire between will and what will be. She's a maniac,
- 12:30Speaker 14: maniac on the floor. And she's dancing like she's never
- 12:37Speaker 14: danced before She's a maniac.
- 12:39Speaker 4: Maniac on the floor And.
- 12:42Speaker 14: She's dancing like she's never danced before On the ice
- 12:46Speaker 14: blue line of insanity It's a place most never see
- 13:03Speaker 14: It's a hard-won place of mystery Touch it but can't
- 13:07Speaker 14: hold it You work all your life for that moment
- 13:11Speaker 14: in time It could come or pass you by It's
- 13:15Speaker 14: the push of the world but there's always a chance
- 13:18Speaker 14: If the hunger stays the night There's a cold kinetic
- 13:24Speaker 14: heat Struggling, stretching.
- 13:26Speaker 4: For the beat Never.
- 13:28Speaker 14: Stopping with her head against the wind She's a maniac,
- 13:33Speaker 14: maniac at showing off And she's dancing like she's never
- 13:39Speaker 14: danced before She's a maniac.
- 13:41Speaker 4: Maniac at.
- 13:51Speaker 14: And she's dancing like she's never danced before. You can
- 14:48Speaker 14: cut you like a knife Give the gift because of
- 14:53Speaker 14: her On the wire between will.
- 14:56Speaker 4: And what will be She's.
- 14:59Speaker 14: A maniac, maniac I don't know And she's dancing like
- 15:06Speaker 14: she's never danced before She's a maniac, maniac Have you
- 15:19Speaker 14: listened to the rest of that.
- 15:22Speaker 4: Album, though? Because I came across, again....
- 15:35Speaker 10: I've slowly picked up... I'm still fighting being a vinyl geek.
- 15:38Speaker 10: But I occasionally run across stuff for cheap. And there
- 15:40Speaker 10: was a million copies of Flashdance out in the world.
- 15:43Speaker 10: So they're out there everywhere. And I got one that's
- 15:45Speaker 10: relatively scratched up. But I bought it for next to nothing.
- 15:47Speaker 5: And I don't think... I knew the two singles. And
- 15:51Speaker 5: I'm like, alright, so... What else is... Oh, my God.
- 15:54Speaker 5: Don't bother with the other tracks.
- 15:56Speaker 6: That's why they only know those two songs.
- 15:58Speaker 5: There's a lot of.
- 15:59Speaker 10: And, like, I find that every once in a while
- 16:01Speaker 10: that I'm like, oh, yeah, there's a reason these were
- 16:03Speaker 10: the singles and everything else got thrown to the background
- 16:06Speaker 10: in the background of a movie that you weren't really
- 16:08Speaker 10: paying attention to anyway.
- 16:09Speaker 6: Other than that, I don't listen to music. The only
- 16:12Speaker 6: other thing that is in my iTunes... And there are 752,000 copies,
- 16:17Speaker 6: iterations of the Nightcore theme.
- 16:19Speaker 5: You're obsessed with this song.
- 16:21Speaker 6: Well, it just makes me think about Bull. I mean,
- 16:23Speaker 6: he was really good at his job, and, you know.
- 16:27Speaker 5: I believe he has a cameo in House.
- 16:30Speaker 6: I don't remember that.
- 16:31Speaker 5: If we're looking for a movie tie-in, I believe he's
- 16:35Speaker 5: one of.
- 16:35Speaker 10: I think he's got weird prosthetics on, so you probably
- 16:38Speaker 10: won't recognize him. But if I remember, that was one
- 16:40Speaker 10: of his weird little genre crossovers.
- 16:42Speaker 6: So I'm not allowed to talk about television?
- 16:44Speaker 5: I mean, you can, but.
- 16:46Speaker 10: I think John Loracat's badass, but, like, again... Then I
- 16:49Speaker 10: have to go to, where's my movie tie-in?
- 16:51Speaker 5: Ah, Texas Chainsaw Mass.
- 16:53Speaker 17: Okay.
- 16:54Speaker 5: I always try to.
- 16:55Speaker 10: Find a weird back door to cram my way into
- 16:57Speaker 10: the movies again.
- 16:58Speaker 5: Listen, you got a back door to this place? Yes,
- 17:01Speaker 5: in the back. So otherwise, you're busying yourself, i.e. having
- 17:07Speaker 5: a career with art. So is there anything cool you've
- 17:10Speaker 5: been doing?
- 17:10Speaker 10: You've got a lot of really cool movie tie-ins hanging
- 17:14Speaker 10: in your tent over there.
- 17:15Speaker 5: Have you got any that you're toying with the idea
- 17:18Speaker 5: of doing?
- 17:19Speaker 6: Have any new things on the horizon. I'd like to.
- 17:22Speaker 5: I.
- 17:24Speaker 6: Think it would be really fun instead of playing with
- 17:27Speaker 6: a pop culture thing that people are already familiar with,
- 17:29Speaker 6: it would be really interesting to do a project with
- 17:31Speaker 6: somebody who's coming out with something new. Because traditionally, for
- 17:35Speaker 6: the past, I don't know, 20 years, it's all got
- 17:37Speaker 6: to be floating heads contractually and all that sort of
- 17:40Speaker 6: stuff instead of really creating something that's the atmosphere of
- 17:44Speaker 6: the storytelling that the director was doing as opposed to Fine,
- 17:47Speaker 6: we'll put your face on there and then that will
- 17:49Speaker 6: not say anything about the story.
- 17:51Speaker 5: So like finding like a movie being made. An indie
- 17:55Speaker 5: project of some sort.
- 17:55Speaker 10: Yeah, finding an indie movie and then being like, I'm
- 17:57Speaker 10: going to do your poster. So like, give me a
- 17:59Speaker 10: copy of it. I'll figure out what I need to
- 18:01Speaker 10: do and create. Because that's what I mean. It's probably
- 18:03Speaker 10: more than 20.
- 18:04Speaker 5: It's probably since VHS came around.
- 18:06Speaker 18: Yeah.
- 18:07Speaker 10: They, because that's the thing, they went from, like, early
- 18:10Speaker 10: 80s has the most awesome box covers you're ever going to,
- 18:13Speaker 10: and with people.
- 18:14Speaker 5: Like, still, like, actual doing paintings.
- 18:17Speaker 10: Like, you have people out there, like, creating actual works
- 18:20Speaker 10: of art just to be slapped on the front of
- 18:22Speaker 10: a VHS box.
- 18:22Speaker 5: And that was amazing. Like, you can go back.
- 18:24Speaker 10: They've done so many books now that are just compiling
- 18:27Speaker 10: all that really cheesy 80s artwork that ended up on
- 18:30Speaker 10: VHS covers. And, like, towards the end of the 80s,
- 18:34Speaker 10: definitely early 90s, as DVD starts coming in, They are
- 18:37Speaker 10: just images that have nothing to do with the movie
- 18:41Speaker 10: and are just, here's a headshot from their headshot they
- 18:44Speaker 10: dropped off when we hired them and we're slapping it
- 18:47Speaker 10: on the front of it, maybe with a plain background
- 18:49Speaker 10: behind it.
- 18:50Speaker 5: It may not even have artwork.
- 18:51Speaker 10: It might have a cheesy version of the city they're
- 18:53Speaker 10: in or something, but it's the worst slapped together artwork
- 18:57Speaker 10: ever and it kind of continues. I see it in
- 18:59Speaker 10: the freaking red boxes and they still put almost no
- 19:03Speaker 10: work into most of them except occasionally indie films.
- 19:07Speaker 6: I'm hoping that if you're familiar with Mondo and all
- 19:12Speaker 6: the wonderful, beautiful stuff that they have been doing over
- 19:15Speaker 6: the past, I guess a decade now, maybe a little more.
- 19:19Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 19:19Speaker 6: The studios are starting to understand the stock of having
- 19:22Speaker 6: creatives actually design the promotional material for their movies. Sometimes
- 19:27Speaker 6: it's after the fact. Sometimes it's just for a promotional
- 19:30Speaker 6: thing and they still have to go by the books
- 19:32Speaker 6: and do all the floating heads or whatever.
- 19:33Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 19:35Speaker 6: Did you happen to have the opportunity to see the
- 19:38Speaker 6: incredibly beautiful poster that Jason Edmiston did for The Hateful Eight?
- 19:44Speaker 5: I think I did.
- 19:45Speaker 6: Like, Tarantino yeah had him he flew him out.
- 19:49Speaker 5: To do again he's of all movie geeks he's you.
- 19:51Speaker 6: Know one of the debuts so then he actually had
- 19:54Speaker 6: the background and actually saw the movie and then he
- 19:56Speaker 6: could go cool i will go back and create something
- 19:59Speaker 6: from the story instead of like here are a couple
- 20:02Speaker 6: of promo shots.
- 20:02Speaker 5: I'm gonna stock up on red paint and go make
- 20:05Speaker 5: some artwork It's a mean, spirited movie.
- 20:10Speaker 6: I haven't had the opportunity yet.
- 20:12Speaker 10: It's worth seeing if you like Tarantino in particular. I
- 20:16Speaker 10: think you kind of have to be a Tarantino fan
- 20:18Speaker 10: to even be okay with it.
- 20:20Speaker 6: That makes sense.
- 20:21Speaker 10: Well, I mean, there's some, like, I think you could
- 20:23Speaker 10: kind of cruise into Jackie Brown and you'd be okay.
- 20:26Speaker 5: But, like, it's one of those, like.
- 20:28Speaker 6: It's just him on red line.
- 20:29Speaker 5: Yeah, it's him being kind of self-indulgent.
- 20:32Speaker 10: And I think I've only said that one other time,
- 20:34Speaker 10: and that's the.
- 20:36Speaker 5: Freaking Kurt Russell one. Oh, goddammit. Yeah, the car driving.
- 20:40Speaker 5: Death Proof. There we go. The movie with two movies. Yeah.
- 20:44Speaker 5: That's the only time I've ever said that. Death Proof.
- 20:48Speaker 10: Again, I don't hate it, but it was the lowest
- 20:52Speaker 10: on the rung for Carantino for me because he feels
- 20:55Speaker 10: like he is doing nothing but servicing himself in that movie.
- 20:59Speaker 5: Hey, play edges that way. I think it's better.
- 21:01Speaker 10: It's got well-written scenes and it's just self-indulgent because he's
- 21:07Speaker 10: getting to the point of not editing either well at.
- 21:10Speaker 6: This point in a creative's career when you've already had
- 21:14Speaker 6: to deal with um enough people being responsible for people
- 21:19Speaker 6: financing your movies yeah and enough successes the ultimate goal
- 21:24Speaker 6: is to get to a point where you can just
- 21:26Speaker 6: go let me do well just let me do the
- 21:28Speaker 6: thing no i actually can have enough money to do
- 21:30Speaker 6: what i would like to do Let me do it.
- 21:33Speaker 10: At this point, again, he's such a name, he can
- 21:36Speaker 10: kind of, they're still going to fight him on details,
- 21:38Speaker 10: but at least people are lining up to potentially work
- 21:42Speaker 10: with him. Then they're going to get in there and go, oh,
- 21:43Speaker 10: we don't want to do this at all.
- 21:45Speaker 6: Well, you got to make mistakes and learn your lessons
- 21:47Speaker 6: a few times.
- 21:49Speaker 5: But yeah, I'm afraid, and he's talking like he wants
- 21:51Speaker 5: to get out.
- 21:52Speaker 10: I don't know that he, he's such a geek, I
- 21:54Speaker 10: don't know if he can, but he's talking about making
- 21:55Speaker 10: a couple more and being done, which a lot of people, again,
- 21:59Speaker 10: he's too hardcore.
- 22:00Speaker 5: I don't think he can do that.
- 22:01Speaker 6: I think like most, genuine creative, so he'll get itchy
- 22:04Speaker 6: real quick.
- 22:04Speaker 5: He'll be right back.
- 22:05Speaker 10: But it is funny that this is the first time
- 22:08Speaker 10: I've seen him going down that road of the Peter
- 22:11Speaker 10: Jackson thing. Or all these filmmakers that now nobody says
- 22:15Speaker 10: no to, so we can make three-hour movies. Because I
- 22:19Speaker 10: had somebody describe that lately. They were talking about Hateful Eight,
- 22:22Speaker 10: and they were like, it's a really great two-hour movie
- 22:25Speaker 10: in a three-hour package.
- 22:27Speaker 5: And I'm like, yeah.
- 22:29Speaker 6: With that, do you think that his entire crew is
- 22:31Speaker 6: just like, Fine.
- 22:34Speaker 5: Okay. Like he was just giving up and editing. I
- 22:36Speaker 5: don't think so. This is my job.
- 22:38Speaker 10: I think from the beginning, like Reservoir Dogs is tight.
- 22:41Speaker 10: Like it is a tight, smartly pieced together story and
- 22:45Speaker 10: it works because of that. If it's three hours of
- 22:48Speaker 10: them stuck in that room, I don't think it's going
- 22:49Speaker 10: to work. You know, it's like it works because it's
- 22:52Speaker 10: just the right dynamic. It's just that balance of like, okay,
- 22:56Speaker 10: it's tension.
- 22:57Speaker 5: It's tension. It's tension. Somebody's going to get shot and
- 22:59Speaker 5: they do. Somebody's going to have an ear severed.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Spoiler.
- 23:01Speaker 5: So, Oh, wait, somebody gets shot in a Tarantino movie. Sorry, guys. But, yeah,
- 23:07Speaker 5: I think it is one of those.
- 23:08Speaker 10: I think you have to know the film you're making
- 23:10Speaker 10: and balance out the running time. When people stop telling
- 23:14Speaker 10: you no, you start to lose sight of that stuff. But, anyway, artwork.
- 23:20Speaker 5: You're going to do artwork for Tarantino. That's what we're getting.
- 23:22Speaker 6: Yeah, that's what I just said.
- 23:24Speaker 5: All right. Tarantino, give him a call. What's the website?
- 23:30Speaker 6: Angryblue.com.
- 23:32Speaker 10: That way, everybody can go and find you and check
- 23:34Speaker 10: out your artwork. But, in particular, if Quentin happens to.
- 23:37Speaker 5: Be listening, that'd be such a weird, heavy project. I
- 23:42Speaker 5: think you can do it.
- 23:43Speaker 10: I've seen some impressive stuff you've done over there.
- 23:47Speaker 5: I think you can step up.
- 23:49Speaker 6: If I can't do it, I'll have that second-rate guy,
- 23:51Speaker 6: Jason Edmiston, do it. They kind of already have a rapport.
- 23:55Speaker 5: Miss Happy Pink wasn't available?
- 23:58Speaker 6: Working with other people for their projects is not her jam.
- 24:02Speaker 5: She is in her own little world, isn't she?
- 24:05Speaker 6: Now, if there was a movie that was not a
- 24:08Speaker 6: Broadway musical called Cats, she'd be all in.
- 24:11Speaker 5: For those of you who don't know, she is also
- 24:13Speaker 5: an artist. Which, what's her website?
- 24:15Speaker 6: MissHappyPink.com. There you go. She made her name to make
- 24:18Speaker 6: fun of mine.
- 24:19Speaker 5: Yeah, I kind of got that in the beginning. It's
- 24:22Speaker 5: pretty damn funny. But even more so that now you're
- 24:24Speaker 5: like hitched to her and whatnot.
- 24:27Speaker 10: In particular yeah you're both awesome artists but even worse
- 24:31Speaker 10: gross married really.
- 24:32Speaker 6: Well I gave up you know whatever you finally gave
- 24:36Speaker 6: in fine that was like and then you know then
- 24:39Speaker 6: we did the rings you.
- 24:40Speaker 10: Won't go away anyway I guess we'll just be married
- 24:43Speaker 10: I did the week we got married I sent her
- 24:46Speaker 10: flowers which I don't ever do because we have cats
- 24:49Speaker 10: and All that turns into is they just eat and
- 24:52Speaker 10: puke them for us.
- 24:53Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 24:54Speaker 5: And sometimes they're deadly. So, yeah, don't do that.
- 24:57Speaker 6: Oh, I need to get those.
- 25:00Speaker 5: You're trying to lose a few.
- 25:01Speaker 6: Well, I mean, we each had two. That's reasonable.
- 25:03Speaker 5: Four is stupid.
- 25:04Speaker 6: Four makes you on the verge of out of control. Also,
- 25:07Speaker 6: that way it's arbitrary. Nobody's playing favorites. It's just a
- 25:10Speaker 6: Darwinism thing.
- 25:11Speaker 5: Nice.
- 25:12Speaker 6: But I did send her flowers. The car just said
- 25:15Speaker 6: you're trapped.
- 25:16Speaker 5: There's no escape now.
- 25:17Speaker 6: I think there was a small, like, if you need help,
- 25:20Speaker 6: please call this number that was delivered as well.
- 25:22Speaker 5: Which I'm sure there's a hotline somewhere.
- 25:25Speaker 6: I left a bad Yelp review for them.
- 25:28Speaker 5: I'm going to leave that alone.
- 25:30Speaker 10: So with that, you probably have to get back to
- 25:32Speaker 10: your tent. So I will let you go take money,
- 25:36Speaker 10: tons of money from people. There's people just lining up
- 25:38Speaker 10: waiting to buy your posters because they're awesome.
- 25:40Speaker 6: Well, I'm in my personal little 10 by 10 prison
- 25:43Speaker 6: I built for myself.
- 25:44Speaker 10: So you should all go To AngryBlue.com and see what
- 25:48Speaker 10: his posters are.
- 25:49Speaker 5: And then you can virtually, digitally give him money.
- 25:54Speaker 6: I'm into that. I don't accept Bitcoin yet.
- 25:57Speaker 4: Yet.
- 25:57Speaker 6: Because I'm way behind the times.
- 26:00Speaker 5: Trading Pokemons, is that an option?
- 26:02Speaker 1: No.
- 26:03Speaker 6: I can't do it.
- 26:05Speaker 10: You haven't gone down the dark, dark highway that is
- 26:07Speaker 10: loitering in the park late at night picking up random Pokemons.
- 26:11Speaker 6: I pick up other stuff.
- 26:12Speaker 10: That used to be what people did was hang out
- 26:14Speaker 10: in the park in deserted areas and do things in
- 26:17Speaker 10: the park.
- 26:17Speaker 5: But now it's Pokemon.
- 26:18Speaker 6: I like having an actual physical memento of my creepiness.
- 26:21Speaker 10: I heard about what's going on behind the tents over there.
- 26:23Speaker 10: That did come from your wife. She was telling me
- 26:25Speaker 10: about the glory hole.
- 26:26Speaker 5: Anyway, we'll leave that alone. It's fine.
- 26:28Speaker 6: Thank you. That would be inappropriate.
- 26:31Speaker 10: Oh, God forbid we do that on this show.
- 26:33Speaker 17: All right.
- 26:34Speaker 5: Well, thank you for joining us. Thank you.

- 28:44Speaker 5: What are you going to do today, Napoleon?
- 28:46Speaker 18: Whatever I feel like I want to do.
- 28:47Speaker 20: God!
- 28:56Speaker 10: All right, so we are back here at Forecastle, and
- 28:59Speaker 10: I've brought a guest. Please introduce yourself.
- 29:01Speaker 2: Hello, my name is Rachel Schmidt.
- 29:04Speaker 10: And you've been forced to sit next to that angry
- 29:07Speaker 10: blue character all weekend long.
- 29:10Speaker 5: On purpose you did this? Yeah, yeah, I guess.
- 29:13Speaker 2: Yeah, on purpose, I guess.
- 29:15Speaker 5: Luckily he's talented, you know.
- 29:17Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 29:17Speaker 5: It makes up for his, you know, personality, you know, whatever.
- 29:21Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 29:23Speaker 10: But you've also come from an entire different state to
- 29:27Speaker 10: be here. Oh, yeah.
- 29:29Speaker 2: Yeah, we're from Columbus, Ohio. So, yeah, it was like
- 29:33Speaker 2: a little drive.
- 29:34Speaker 10: So from an outside perspective, how's this festival been for you?
- 29:38Speaker 10: You've also been trapped behind a table. all weekend long,
- 29:40Speaker 10: but just for different... I'm here every time, so I'm
- 29:44Speaker 10: kind of numb to it all.
- 29:46Speaker 2: Well, this is one of my first festivals of this type,
- 29:50Speaker 2: like the three-day music festivals where you're kind of trapped
- 29:53Speaker 2: behind a fence. But I've really enjoyed it so far.
- 29:58Speaker 5: It's every year.
- 30:00Speaker 10: I'm just amazed at how well run it is and
- 30:03Speaker 10: has to be like, it's just to be this size
- 30:07Speaker 10: and to be like juggling. I was standing next to,
- 30:11Speaker 10: I was talking to somebody else and like, then some
- 30:13Speaker 10: guy came up and started talking and it's JK. It's
- 30:15Speaker 10: the guy who started all this. And I'm like, Oh yeah.
- 30:17Speaker 10: And he, he wasn't, you know, pulling his hair out.
- 30:20Speaker 10: He wasn't screaming and running in circles. He was just
- 30:22Speaker 10: kind of walking around surveying things and kind of, you know.
- 30:25Speaker 5: Keeping it all under control.
- 30:27Speaker 2: I can't fathom the number of hours and number of
- 30:30Speaker 2: human beings it takes to get something to run this fluidly.
- 30:35Speaker 2: I haven't seen any problems, really. And it's really clean.
- 30:39Speaker 5: Yeah, they are on top of that.
- 30:40Speaker 10: I was walking around earlier and there's people constantly picking
- 30:44Speaker 10: up trash. And hopefully these weirdo hippies are responsible hippies
- 30:49Speaker 10: and they put it in the trash can like they're
- 30:51Speaker 10: supposed to.
- 30:51Speaker 8: Definitely. Definitely.
- 30:52Speaker 10: But yeah, it's surprising how well this machine runs every year.
- 30:59Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 31:00Speaker 10: So, we can roll into music. Did you break away
- 31:04Speaker 10: to see anyone other than the band we're going to
- 31:06Speaker 10: talk about?
- 31:07Speaker 5: Have you seen anything else?
- 31:09Speaker 2: I kind of, from the booth, heard a lot of bands.
- 31:12Speaker 2: And it was really nice to actually be able to
- 31:14Speaker 2: sit under a fan in the shade. Listening to a.
- 31:18Speaker 5: Really nice band. Pretty sneaky, sis.
- 31:20Speaker 2: Yep. I don't know. I got a good deal.
- 31:23Speaker 5: You cheated the whole system there. You're supposed to stand
- 31:25Speaker 5: in the sun.
- 31:26Speaker 8: I know.
- 31:27Speaker 5: You don't get a chair.
- 31:28Speaker 2: I didn't get sunburned. I didn't get the full experience,
- 31:31Speaker 2: I guess.
- 31:31Speaker 5: I think they're going to revoke your festival card.
- 31:34Speaker 2: I won't be allowed in next year.
- 31:35Speaker 5: I don't think so.
- 31:35Speaker 2: You'll be banned for life.
- 31:37Speaker 10: You'll be lucky if you get out of here a lot. So,
- 31:42Speaker 10: I did throw it out there to you to come
- 31:44Speaker 10: up with some songs. So, I will let you throw
- 31:46Speaker 10: one out, and we'll kind of mix them up as
- 31:47Speaker 10: we go along. Did you come up with some movie-themed songs?
- 31:54Speaker 2: Movie-themed songs?
- 31:56Speaker 5: Songs from movies. Songs from movies. Songs jammed into movies.
- 32:00Speaker 2: Yeah, there were a few songs, when you mentioned it,
- 32:02Speaker 2: that came directly to mind.
- 32:05Speaker 5: I like those?
- 32:06Speaker 17: Yeah, yeah.
- 32:07Speaker 10: I also like when you delve into it and go, oh,
- 32:08Speaker 10: I forgot I love this song. Which happens sometimes.
- 32:11Speaker 2: If you gave me like three months, I could probably
- 32:13Speaker 2: come up with some deep stuff for you.
- 32:14Speaker 5: You're more than welcome to return.
- 32:16Speaker 2: Unfortunately, not today.
- 32:18Speaker 5: Okay. Return trip.
- 32:20Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely. We'll be back. So the first one I
- 32:24Speaker 2: came up with was from Napoleon Dynamite. There's the White
- 32:29Speaker 2: Stripes song, We're Going to Be Friends. And it came
- 32:34Speaker 2: out when I was in high school, and I saw
- 32:35Speaker 2: it directly when it came out. And that was the
- 32:38Speaker 2: first time I ever heard the White Stripes. And I
- 32:40Speaker 2: was like, oh my gosh. So then I listened to
- 32:44Speaker 2: everything they had. And it kind of changed all of
- 32:49Speaker 2: my music tastes at the time. And I think it's
- 32:52Speaker 2: probably kind of encouraged everything that I listen to now
- 32:56Speaker 2: as well.
- 32:58Speaker 5: And you're just like that Napoleon Dynamite guy. Yeah. I mean,
- 33:02Speaker 5: the fashion sense. You guys can't see at home, but
- 33:03Speaker 5: it's pretty similar. Oh, yeah.
- 33:05Speaker 2: My hair, you know. We could be twins, really.
- 33:09Speaker 5: So you got that going for you. Oh, yeah.
- 33:11Speaker 10: And, yeah, I mean, it is one of those that
- 33:14Speaker 10: the White Stripes, and I guess Jack in particular, what
- 33:17Speaker 10: the hell happened to Meg these days? Like, she's sitting
- 33:20Speaker 10: on a street corner somewhere? Like, she got a, will
- 33:24Speaker 10: awkwardly play drums for change? Like, I don't know what
- 33:27Speaker 10: happened to her, but.
- 33:29Speaker 2: I hope she's doing well.
- 33:30Speaker 5: Yeah, I always kind of liked her being there. I
- 33:32Speaker 5: thought it was weird when I'm like, how do you
- 33:33Speaker 5: go solo? You only had one other person.
- 33:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:36Speaker 5: You have a two-person band.
- 33:37Speaker 2: Old Meg.
- 33:38Speaker 5: But, yeah, it was one of those, he.
- 33:41Speaker 10: Was drastically different for music at the time, and I
- 33:44Speaker 10: guess in general.
- 33:44Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 33:45Speaker 10: But because he's so stripped down in a weird way, like, again,
- 33:49Speaker 10: a band with only two people in it.
- 33:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:51Speaker 10: But, like, his sound, and we've said this before, like,
- 33:55Speaker 10: he can define something.
- 33:56Speaker 5: By just the way he does it. And, like, it
- 33:59Speaker 5: always kind of comes out Jack White-ish. Yeah.
- 34:01Speaker 10: Even if he does a cover of someone else's song,
- 34:03Speaker 10: it ends up kind of sounding like Jack White.
- 34:05Speaker 2: Yeah, you just, like, stick it in his machine and he, like,
- 34:08Speaker 2: spits it out in his image. I guess, I don't know.
- 34:10Speaker 10: He comes out on vinyl with a weird hidden track
- 34:12Speaker 10: that nobody knows about.
- 34:14Speaker 5: Sneaky Jack White.
- 34:15Speaker 18: Yep.
- 34:21Speaker 21: Fall is here hear the yell back to school ring
- 34:25Speaker 21: the bell brand new shoes walking.
- 34:28Speaker 5: Blues climb the fence books and pens.
- 34:31Speaker 8: I can tell that we are gonna be friends i can.
- 34:37Speaker 15: Tell that we are gonna be friends.
- 34:42Speaker 4: Walk with me, Susie Lee Through the park and by.
- 34:48Speaker 22: The tree We will rest upon the ground And look.
- 34:52Speaker 4: At all the bugs we found Safely.
- 34:54Speaker 8: Walk to school without a sound Safely walk to school
- 35:00Speaker 8: without a sound.
- 35:06Speaker 4: Here we are, no one else.
- 35:08Speaker 5: We walk to school all by ourselves.
- 35:11Speaker 21: There's dirt on our uniforms from chasing.
- 35:14Speaker 8: All the ants and worms. We clean up and now
- 35:17Speaker 8: it's time to learn.
- 35:21Speaker 5: We clean up and now it's time to learn.
- 35:28Speaker 23: Numbers, letters, learn.
- 35:30Speaker 21: To spell Nines and books and show and tell Playtime,
- 35:34Speaker 21: we will flow the ball Back to class, through the
- 35:37Speaker 21: hall Teacher marks our height.
- 35:40Speaker 4: Against the wall.
- 35:43Speaker 22: Teacher marks our height against the wall.
- 35:46Speaker 4: We don't notice any time pass.
- 35:56Speaker 8: We don't notice anything We sit side by side in
- 36:02Speaker 8: every class.
- 36:05Speaker 22: Teacher thinks that I sound funny But she likes the
- 36:08Speaker 22: way you sing Tonight I'll dream while I'm in bed
- 36:12Speaker 22: When silly thoughts go through my head About the bugs
- 36:15Speaker 22: and alphabet When I wake tomorrow I'll bet That you
- 36:19Speaker 22: and I will walk together again.
- 36:24Speaker 5: I can tell.
- 36:25Speaker 17: That we are gonna be friends.
- 36:29Speaker 4: I can tell that we are gonna be friends. So
- 36:33Speaker 4: me and you are pretty much friends by now, right?
- 36:36Speaker 9: Yes.
- 36:37Speaker 11: So you got my back and everything?
- 36:40Speaker 1: What?
- 36:42Speaker 4: Never mind.
- 36:43Speaker 10: So, and then my end of it was I usually
- 36:46Speaker 10: try to... Again, I like to take the... basic construction,
- 36:51Speaker 10: the framework of a radio show, and then be like, well,
- 36:54Speaker 10: how do I jam it into soundtrack form? And then
- 36:56Speaker 10: when I get here, it's even an extra layer of challenge,
- 36:59Speaker 10: because I'm like, okay, now working in the people that
- 37:01Speaker 10: are here this weekend, how do I find a way
- 37:04Speaker 10: to then work that into soundtracks? So, again, as you
- 37:08Speaker 10: get to, it's a mixed bag, because some of the
- 37:10Speaker 10: smaller guys haven't made their way there yet. But you
- 37:13Speaker 10: get to somebody like Ben Harper.
- 37:18Speaker 10: He's been around for a while and has been in
- 37:20Speaker 10: a couple of different soundtracks and saw him yesterday. He is,
- 37:25Speaker 10: he is still just seems really cool. Like not even musically,
- 37:29Speaker 10: just kind of want to hang out with him. Like
- 37:30Speaker 10: he just seems way too laid back. And like, I'm
- 37:33Speaker 10: just like, you don't even seem.
- 37:34Speaker 5: Like a rock star. You just seem like you want
- 37:36Speaker 5: to hang out with Ben. So I'm up for that.
- 37:38Speaker 10: If he's, if he wants to, you know, make that
- 37:39Speaker 10: happen somewhere down the line, he can come hang out
- 37:41Speaker 10: and talk about movies.
- 37:42Speaker 5: But, uh, yeah.
- 37:44Speaker 10: And looking through, I also like where I end up
- 37:46Speaker 10: with on the, The movies don't necessarily have anything to
- 37:49Speaker 10: do with or even hit the quality level of the
- 37:52Speaker 10: song sometimes. This one, I won't say that, but it's
- 37:55Speaker 10: certainly an odd choice.
- 37:56Speaker 5: Akeelah and the Bee.
- 37:59Speaker 10: Features everything, which is actually one of the songs of
- 38:02Speaker 10: his I Like Better, so. This is everything from Akilah
- 38:06Speaker 10: and the Bee.
- 38:07Speaker 11: Wow.
- 38:26Speaker 24: All of the rain is sunshine, my, my.
- 38:36Speaker 4: Everything, everything.
- 38:39Speaker 25: You mean everything.
- 38:42Speaker 4: You mean everything.
- 38:44Speaker 17: Everything to me. Everything to me.
- 38:49Speaker 4: The colors of your garden.
- 38:55Speaker 5: And the yellow, blue, green.
- 39:00Speaker 24: And the sound of your sweet voice It's better.
- 39:07Speaker 4: Than all my.
- 39:09Speaker 7: Dreams Everything, everything You mean everything.
- 39:18Speaker 18: You mean everything.
- 39:21Speaker 17: Everything to me.
- 39:24Speaker 4: Everything to me.
- 40:04Speaker 24: My first thought in the morning When I rise.
- 40:10Speaker 4: Oh, when I rise.
- 40:14Speaker 24: And you're my last thought in the evening When I.
- 40:20Speaker 4: Rest my head tonight Oh.
- 40:25Speaker 25: God, everything, everything You mean everything You mean everything Everything
- 40:35Speaker 25: to me.
- 40:37Speaker 24: Alright, so now I think the reason that we.
- 40:41Speaker 4: Ended up.
- 41:05Speaker 10: You got roped into this. Bonding overseeing a specific band yesterday.
- 41:10Speaker 10: I wasn't familiar with them beforehand. Had you heard of them?
- 41:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I had actually seen them a couple months before
- 41:19Speaker 2: in Columbus.
- 41:20Speaker 6: Nice.
- 41:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I really loved them then, and I really enjoyed
- 41:24Speaker 2: their show yesterday as well.
- 41:27Speaker 10: For those of you that weren't there, this would be Bully.
- 41:30Speaker 10: And I was not only caught off guard, but kind
- 41:33Speaker 10: of floored. I mean, I'm a sucker for like a
- 41:35Speaker 10: badass chick fronted rock band.
- 41:37Speaker 5: Oh my gosh, yes. That's always like I've got a
- 41:40Speaker 5: staple full.
- 41:40Speaker 10: Of just stacks of CDs from stuff over the years
- 41:43Speaker 10: that kind of fits the bill. Yeah. So it didn't
- 41:45Speaker 10: surprise me once I got in and went, oh yeah,
- 41:47Speaker 10: this is sort of my formula.
- 41:49Speaker 5: But they're badass. Oh, she's so good. She is an
- 41:53Speaker 5: amazing front woman. Oh my gosh. And then like by
- 41:56Speaker 5: the end when they just are all wailing on their instruments,
- 42:00Speaker 5: I'm just like, And this is an amazing band on
- 42:02Speaker 5: top of that.
- 42:03Speaker 10: So it's, yeah, I was surprised by, and again, I
- 42:10Speaker 10: go to these, and especially once you get into this
- 42:12Speaker 10: weekend and you see so many bands and you're just
- 42:14Speaker 10: kind of like, at some.
- 42:15Speaker 5: Point you're just, they wash over you and you're like,
- 42:18Speaker 5: I don't know. This person was all right, I guess.
- 42:20Speaker 10: Especially if you're not already familiar with them. You're just like,
- 42:23Speaker 10: it's just, it all just sounds like festival music. And
- 42:26Speaker 10: then every once in a while, there's one that I'm like, whoa, no,
- 42:28Speaker 10: I'm glad.
- 42:29Speaker 5: I was here for that experience. Like, that was amazing.
- 42:33Speaker 2: Yeah, she's fantastic.
- 42:35Speaker 5: She's pretty impressive.
- 42:37Speaker 2: Her drummer is also really, really amazing. I was impressed
- 42:40Speaker 2: by the drumming.
- 42:41Speaker 5: They were all pretty impressive.
- 42:43Speaker 10: So, yeah, if nothing else, again, sometimes I will rope
- 42:48Speaker 10: these people into being on the show.
- 42:50Speaker 5: So they, yeah, I'll work on that one for future reference,
- 42:52Speaker 5: an entire Bully episode. But.
- 42:55Speaker 10: Again, as I said, I came up with the framework
- 42:57Speaker 10: of this show, and I forced myself into it, but
- 43:00Speaker 10: I also run the show, so I'm allowed to break
- 43:02Speaker 10: the rules. There isn't anything as far as movies that
- 43:06Speaker 10: have Bully on the soundtrack, but I run the show,
- 43:08Speaker 10: so screw it.
- 43:09Speaker 5: I'm going to put whatever I.
- 43:10Speaker 10: Want in here, and I decided I want to play
- 43:12Speaker 10: some of their songs because I think they should.
- 43:15Speaker 5: I mean, that's the whole point of this.
- 43:16Speaker 10: I think they should get exposure out of being at
- 43:18Speaker 10: a show like this, and people should hear them.
- 43:21Speaker 5: So, first off, do you have a specific song of
- 43:24Speaker 5: theirs that you want to play?
- 43:27Speaker 2: I think Milkman.
- 43:28Speaker 11: Alright.
- 43:29Speaker 5: I'd like to hear that.
- 44:03Speaker 4: It's not that. Just try to keep up with my head.
- 45:10Speaker 4: I used to be a shark. I used to be
- 45:12Speaker 4: a shark. I used to be a shark. I used
- 45:16Speaker 4: to be a shark.
- 45:19Speaker 18: Shark.
- 45:21Speaker 10: Shark.
- 45:24Speaker 12: Shark.
- 45:28Speaker 17: And get a note to the milkman.
- 45:29Speaker 4: No more cheese.
- 45:30Speaker 10: Okay, so my fic and mine was just sort of
- 45:33Speaker 10: randomly going through afterwards. I was like, okay, now I
- 45:36Speaker 10: need to go find out as much as I can
- 45:38Speaker 10: about this band because they're awesome. And just sort of
- 45:41Speaker 10: randomly went on Too Tough. Not as out of control.
- 45:44Speaker 10: It's a little more reined in than some of their
- 45:48Speaker 10: louder performances. But, again, kind of showcases what they do best. So, yeah,
- 45:53Speaker 10: I'm going with Too Tough.
- 45:54Speaker 4: Call me, but you can't complain I hate to hear
- 46:01Speaker 4: it from a family It's like you never even wanted
- 46:19Speaker 4: to live. It's just too tough to talk it out
- 46:21Speaker 4: and talk about it. Oh, my God, I don't know
- 46:23Speaker 4: what's just happened. You will go to be someplace familiar.
- 46:49Speaker 4: me so you can come clean after it's too late
- 46:56Speaker 4: why don't you just let me be stop trying to
- 47:02Speaker 4: blame everyone else.
- 47:06Speaker 20: So get up now soak.
- 47:09Speaker 4: In the stream I remember you so much I'm glad
- 47:19Speaker 4: we're me down it's like you never even wanted to
- 47:36Speaker 4: live you're just too tough to talk it out and
- 47:39Speaker 4: talk about it only blood alone.
- 48:47Speaker 10: And if our endorsements haven't been enough, the website for
- 48:52Speaker 10: them is bullythemusic.com.
- 48:54Speaker 5: Which I thought was entertaining as well. Oh, yeah.
- 48:56Speaker 10: So go to bullythemusic.com and find out more about them.
- 49:00Speaker 5: And I believe there's ways to download it and go,
- 49:03Speaker 5: you know, support them.
- 49:04Speaker 10: That's what they're out here doing this for, find new
- 49:07Speaker 10: fans and, you know, stay alive as a band. I'm
- 49:09Speaker 10: assuming the music business does not pay like it used to,
- 49:12Speaker 10: so they kind of need everybody's downloads.
- 49:16Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 49:17Speaker 10: Okay, and since I sort of cheated with Bully, I
- 49:20Speaker 10: was thinking earlier today, I was like, alright, sometimes I'll
- 49:23Speaker 10: make these allowances, but then I'll try to balance it out.
- 49:26Speaker 10: So if we want a Bully song, how about this one?
- 49:29Speaker 10: I was like, how about we play a song from
- 49:32Speaker 10: Larry Clark's Bully, which is a disturbing film, as all
- 49:36Speaker 10: of Larry Clark's films are.
- 49:38Speaker 5: So... In the middle of that one, they bust out
- 49:40Speaker 5: a song for Shelter from Fatboy Slim.
- 49:43Speaker 9: Oh, wow.
- 49:43Speaker 10: I was like, that ought to balance things out, right?
- 49:46Speaker 5: I've totally made my atonement with the universe now for cheating.
- 49:50Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 49:52Speaker 9: Fatboy Slim.
- 49:53Speaker 11: Oh, wow.
- 50:02Speaker 12: The deeper I go, the more knowledge I know what
- 50:06Speaker 12: to sing, what to bring.
- 50:09Speaker 11: What?
- 50:11Speaker 4: I get deep, I get.
- 50:11Speaker 5: Deep, I get deep, I get deeper, deeper, deeper.
- 50:14Speaker 4: Into the vibe. What? High.
- 50:18Speaker 12: Chilling in the corner at the shelf all by myself,
- 50:21Speaker 12: checking it out, I'm not dancing no more.
- 50:22Speaker 4: But why?
- 50:23Speaker 18: Why?
- 50:25Speaker 4: Why? What? High on earth.
- 50:32Speaker 12: All you're supposed to vibe around the fake ones, the
- 50:38Speaker 12: ones that.
- 50:38Speaker 4: Say they know what is what, but they don't know
- 50:41Speaker 4: what is what.
- 50:42Speaker 11: They just strut.
- 50:43Speaker 4: What the fuck? What?
- 50:46Speaker 5: I get deep, I get deep, I get deep, I
- 50:48Speaker 5: get deep.
- 50:48Speaker 24: I get deeper into this thing and I pretend that
- 50:51Speaker 24: they're not there.
- 50:53Speaker 4: I just stare. up in the booth at.
- 50:56Speaker 12: The dread man spinning the song spinning it strong playing
- 50:59Speaker 12: things like waking up how to speak it that's my.
- 51:04Speaker 4: Show i get deep.
- 51:08Speaker 12: I get deep i get deeper i get deeper when
- 51:10Speaker 12: people start to disappear and it's about six o'clock.
- 51:15Speaker 4: I'm feeling hot Take off my sweater and my pants
- 51:20Speaker 4: And I start to dance and all the sweat just
- 51:23Speaker 4: goes down my face And.
- 51:24Speaker 12: I pretend that there's nobody there but me in this
- 51:27Speaker 12: place I get deep, yo, I get deep What?
- 51:31Speaker 4: I get deep, I get deep, I get deep, I get.
- 51:35Speaker 12: Deep And he takes all the bass out the song
- 51:37Speaker 12: and all you hear is highs And it's like.
- 51:40Speaker 4: Oh, shit I get deep. I get deep, I get deep, I.
- 51:47Speaker 5: Get deep, I get deep, and they're really close to my.
- 51:49Speaker 4: Blood like alcohol, and I get drunk, and I'm all
- 51:51Speaker 4: over the place, and I catch myself right on time,
- 51:53Speaker 4: right on the beat, and it's so sweet.
- 51:55Speaker 5: Sweet, sweet, sweet.
- 51:56Speaker 4: I get deep. I get deep.
- 51:57Speaker 6: I get deep.
- 51:58Speaker 2: I get deep.
- 52:12Speaker 4: White House, Middle.
- 52:14Speaker 16: East Air Then Dr.
- 52:15Speaker 5: Love would be.
- 52:16Speaker 22: My song And I would only take deep breaths And
- 52:19Speaker 22: fill my lungs with the rhythm of the.
- 52:23Speaker 4: Bass I get deep, I get deep Thank you.
- 53:18Speaker 12: As if they had wings on their feet.
- 53:21Speaker 22: Raising both hands in the air.
- 53:23Speaker 20: As if Jesus was a DJ himself.
- 53:25Speaker 12: Spinning those funky, funky, funky outbeats. And in this temple,
- 53:30Speaker 12: we all pray in unity for the same thing. Rhythmatic
- 53:33Speaker 12: pause without cause. Bass from those high definition speakers. Sitting
- 53:37Speaker 12: in the corner on each side of the room.
- 53:39Speaker 4: Giving us the boom.
- 53:43Speaker 12: The smell of Ellen while walking by, but the music
- 53:46Speaker 12: gets me high.
- 53:47Speaker 5: Sink the fire like an.
- 53:48Speaker 4: Old lady in church. We get happy, we stomp our feet,
- 53:52Speaker 4: we clap our hands.
- 53:54Speaker 12: We shout, we cry, we dance, and we say, sweet Lord,
- 53:57Speaker 12: speak to me.
- 53:58Speaker 5: Speak to me, speak to me, speak to me.
- 54:01Speaker 12: Because we love house music, and on this night.
- 54:04Speaker 6: It brings us together like a family.
- 54:06Speaker 4: Reunion every week. We eat, we drink, we laugh, we play,
- 54:09Speaker 4: we sing. So for all you hip-hoppers, you do-woppers, ninjas.
- 55:00Speaker 4: You guys just keep it rolling.
- 55:30Speaker 4: .
- 55:42Speaker 26: Is Under the big bright yellow sun Under the big
- 56:22Speaker 26: bright yellow.
- 56:24Speaker 21: Sun All right.
- 56:49Speaker 16: So I will throw it back to you.
- 56:50Speaker 26: What was one of the other ones of yours that
- 56:53Speaker 26: you wanted to play?
- 56:54Speaker 4: Other life altering or it popped into your head. Either
- 56:58Speaker 4: way you'd like to go. Another one I thought of.
- 57:15Speaker 2: Was from the Royal Tenenbaums. Elliot Smith, Needle in the Hay,
- 57:20Speaker 2: I really liked.
- 57:23Speaker 1: And, yeah.
- 57:25Speaker 2: Well, I think it was probably just the scene, and
- 57:28Speaker 2: now I associate that with the music.
- 57:32Speaker 9: Suicide?
- 57:33Speaker 5: A little bit. That's the way to go, rocking out
- 57:36Speaker 5: with some Elliot Smith.
- 57:38Speaker 2: But, yeah.
- 57:39Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 57:42Speaker 18: Hand on his arm he's stacked all home around your neck.
- 57:49Speaker 11: Strung out and thin calling some friend trying to cash
- 57:53Speaker 11: some check he's acting dumb That's what you've come to
- 58:00Speaker 11: expect Needle in the.
- 58:02Speaker 4: Hay Needle in the hay Needle in the hay Needle
- 58:14Speaker 4: in the hay.
- 58:29Speaker 18: He's wearing your clothes Head down to toes A reaction
- 58:35Speaker 18: to you You say you know what he did But
- 58:39Speaker 18: you idiot kid You don't have a clue Sometimes he
- 58:44Speaker 18: just Get caught in the eye You're pulling him through
- 58:49Speaker 18: He lit my hay.
- 58:53Speaker 4: Needle in the hay. Needle in the hay. Needle in
- 59:02Speaker 4: the hay. guitar solo guitar solo.
- 59:39Speaker 18: Now I'm on my bus, nearly touching this dirty retreat.
- 59:46Speaker 11: Falling out, six-hand pallet, dead.
- 59:50Speaker 18: Sweat in my teeth. Gonna walk, walk, walk, four more blocks,
- 59:55Speaker 18: plus the one in my brain. Down, downstairs, to the minis,
- 1:00:02Speaker 18: gonna make it all okay. I can't be myself, I
- 1:00:06Speaker 18: can't myself and I don't want to talk I'm taking
- 1:00:11Speaker 18: the cure so I can be quiet Whatever I want,
- 1:00:16Speaker 18: so leave me alone You ought to be proud that
- 1:00:20Speaker 18: I'm getting good marks.
- 1:00:22Speaker 4: Needle in the hay Needle in the hay Needle in
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: the hay Needle in the hay.
- 1:00:35Speaker 18: Needle in the hay.
- 1:00:44Speaker 4: Needle in the hay, needle in the hay, needle in
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: the hay. We had a guest on here, I guess.
- 1:00:58Speaker 4: It's been.
- 1:01:08Speaker 10: Probably close to two years now that they had... Because
- 1:01:10Speaker 10: we have, again, weird town that we are. We not
- 1:01:13Speaker 10: only have this festival, we also have.
- 1:01:16Speaker 5: An ongoing... They took a break this year, but they
- 1:01:19Speaker 5: do like a Wes Anderson. It's just West Fest.
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: Oh, really?
- 1:01:22Speaker 5: And they have bands that do songs from his movies live.
- 1:01:26Speaker 11: Oh, wow.
- 1:01:27Speaker 5: So we had... That's amazing.
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: I didn't know about that.
- 1:01:31Speaker 5: Again, there's another reason to drive up. I'll let you
- 1:01:33Speaker 5: know once it comes back. Yes, please. But yeah, we had.
- 1:01:37Speaker 10: jonathan on from nelly pearl and nelly pearl decided to
- 1:01:41Speaker 10: do a couple of different songs but he decided to
- 1:01:45Speaker 10: finish the set out with that song wow and it's
- 1:01:47Speaker 10: a way cranked up like they they took it a
- 1:01:50Speaker 10: lot louder and faster than that song actually is i.
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: Would like to hear that i think that'd be really.
- 1:01:54Speaker 10: Good so at the end of it he also decided
- 1:01:58Speaker 10: to sort of recreate the experience oh my gosh like
- 1:02:02Speaker 10: originally he wanted as he told us on the show
- 1:02:04Speaker 10: he wanted he was going to like start shaving his
- 1:02:05Speaker 10: head and shaving and like he was gonna go the
- 1:02:08Speaker 10: full but he's like there's no just it's no i
- 1:02:10Speaker 10: can't no i can't do that holy cow but in
- 1:02:12Speaker 10: the end then he did slash his wrist there was
- 1:02:15Speaker 10: blood that came out he dropped to the ground and
- 1:02:18Speaker 10: just laid there for the entire end of the song
- 1:02:21Speaker 10: and like the rest of the band still like wailing
- 1:02:24Speaker 10: on the instruments and he's just laying there with feedback
- 1:02:26Speaker 10: dead on the on the floor of the festival event
- 1:02:29Speaker 10: and that's.
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: A good way to notch up your performance.
- 1:02:32Speaker 5: And it's like, in the middle, he was like, we
- 1:02:33Speaker 5: were going to go finish with another song. But I'm like,
- 1:02:35Speaker 5: you can't get up after that.
- 1:02:37Speaker 11: No.
- 1:02:37Speaker 5: No, that's your finisher. I don't think you'd be allowed.
- 1:02:40Speaker 5: There's no finishing move other than that. No. You can't
- 1:02:43Speaker 5: come back from that. So, yeah, that's what I think
- 1:02:47Speaker 5: of now, is watching him do that in person and
- 1:02:50Speaker 5: die on stage.
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: I'm sorry I missed that.
- 1:02:52Speaker 5: Geez. He'll probably recreate it if you want. I hope so.
- 1:02:54Speaker 5: We've got the inside track on Jonathan. We'll make him
- 1:02:56Speaker 5: do it.
- 1:02:56Speaker 18: Yeah.
- 1:03:12Speaker 5: Hi, this is Simon, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown. Hi,
- 1:03:15Speaker 5: this is Thomas. You're still listening to Movie Meltdown. I'm
- 1:03:19Speaker 5: the other one.
- 1:03:19Speaker 18: I'm Mark.
- 1:03:20Speaker 5: Come on, Mark.
- 1:03:21Speaker 20: Hey.
- 1:03:22Speaker 4: Hey.
- 1:03:23Speaker 5: This is the one. You're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 1:03:37Speaker 10: So what are our feelings on Ryan Adams?
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: I haven't had the pleasure of listening to much of
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: his work, so I have no opinion, no feelings.
- 1:03:48Speaker 4: I feel like.
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: What are your feelings?
- 1:03:51Speaker 10: I'm trying to separate the two, and over the years
- 1:03:52Speaker 10: I've gotten pretty good at separating the art from the artist.
- 1:03:56Speaker 5: Okay. I mean, there's a lot of different.
- 1:04:00Speaker 10: Artists you find things out about their personal life over
- 1:04:02Speaker 10: the years, and you're like, ugh.
- 1:04:04Speaker 5: And it really, it can taint the work.
- 1:04:06Speaker 10: So I try to keep that from happening, and I
- 1:04:09Speaker 10: try to be as objective as possible. And he's one
- 1:04:12Speaker 10: of those, I'm like, as a guy, most of the
- 1:04:14Speaker 10: stories I've heard are not favorable.
- 1:04:17Speaker 4: Oh.
- 1:04:18Speaker 5: Like, I don't know what to think about him.
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: Come on, guys.
- 1:04:21Speaker 5: So, yeah, he's going to be hanging out here later tonight.
- 1:04:24Speaker 10: I doubt he'll come over and talk to me. So
- 1:04:27Speaker 10: I can go ahead and say what I think. But
- 1:04:31Speaker 10: if he wants to come on. But, you know, he
- 1:04:33Speaker 10: seems to have attitude is what I've taken away over
- 1:04:36Speaker 10: the years. So I'm not sure what to think of it.
- 1:04:39Speaker 5: So he's got quite a few on Soundtracks. We can
- 1:04:43Speaker 5: go more recent.
- 1:04:44Speaker 10: Or if you want to go really old school, there's
- 1:04:47Speaker 10: an extra layer of making fun of him if you'd like.
- 1:04:49Speaker 5: Okay.
- 1:04:50Speaker 10: First of all, before he was Ryan Adams, he was
- 1:04:53Speaker 10: in Whiskey Town. And my personal tie to that is
- 1:04:56Speaker 10: at one point, I may still have the ticket somewhere.
- 1:04:58Speaker 10: I bought a ticket to a Whiskey Town show when
- 1:05:02Speaker 10: they came through town here many years ago.
- 1:05:05Speaker 5: Because I wanted to see the opening act.
- 1:05:07Speaker 10: And then I left after the opening act.
- 1:05:10Speaker 5: So I did not see Ryan Adams back in the day.
- 1:05:13Speaker 5: Take that, Ryan. You were there, though. I was there.
- 1:05:16Speaker 10: I was in the bars and just closed down. So
- 1:05:18Speaker 10: it's all come full circle. That bar has gone under
- 1:05:21Speaker 10: since then, Ryan. I'm also holding you responsible for that.
- 1:05:23Speaker 11: Wow.
- 1:05:24Speaker 10: But this one, I don't even feel like the song.
- 1:05:28Speaker 10: The song's fine, but the title may be one of
- 1:05:31Speaker 10: the more pretentious things I've read in a while.
- 1:05:33Speaker 18: Oh.
- 1:05:34Speaker 5: First of all, once again, we have to go way
- 1:05:36Speaker 5: back to Get a Whiskey Town. This is from Hope Floats.
- 1:05:38Speaker 10: The beloved Sandra Bullock vehicle.
- 1:05:42Speaker 5: Hope Floats. And his song is entitled, now this is
- 1:05:47Speaker 5: with the.
- 1:05:47Speaker 10: Band, but he did write it exclusively, so he's responsible
- 1:05:50Speaker 10: for the song, Wither, I'm a Flower.
- 1:05:54Speaker 6: Oh, wow.
- 1:05:54Speaker 5: Yeah, kind of.
- 1:05:56Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:05:57Speaker 5: Kind of want to at least give him a good
- 1:05:58Speaker 5: punch in the arm for that one.
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: Maybe.
- 1:06:01Speaker 5: Dude, really?
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: Maybe a little more than that.
- 1:06:03Speaker 9: Oh.
- 1:06:04Speaker 10: Face but yeah i was trying to be a sport
- 1:06:06Speaker 10: say arm you know that's very nice dude come on now.
- 1:06:35Speaker 5: Whether I'm a lover.
- 1:06:41Speaker 17: Whether I'm a flower.
- 1:06:47Speaker 5: Whether I'm a.
- 1:06:48Speaker 15: Lover Whether I'm a flower Soul City is my sister
- 1:07:05Speaker 15: The country is your brother. Learn to lose your battles.
- 1:07:15Speaker 4: Cry on our shores.
- 1:07:29Speaker 17: Whether I'm a flower, whether I'm a lover, it's always
- 1:07:42Speaker 17: one against the other.
- 1:07:43Speaker 4: Na, na, na, na, na. No, no, no, no.
- 1:09:17Speaker 8: Bye.
- 1:09:17Speaker 4: Bye. Bye.
- 1:09:55Speaker 16: Na na na Na na na Na na na Na
- 1:10:14Speaker 16: na na Whether I'm a lover.
- 1:10:16Speaker 21: Whether I'm a flower.
- 1:10:25Speaker 17: Whether I'm a lover. Whether I'm a flower.
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: You're a flower, you are.
- 1:10:39Speaker 4: Just a little desert flower.
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: Whether I am a flower.
- 1:10:43Speaker 10: I can't, you know, I want to totally write him
- 1:10:45Speaker 10: off and make fun of him, but do you know
- 1:10:48Speaker 10: what his move, what he did like the end of
- 1:10:51Speaker 10: last year, beginning of this year, if you're not that
- 1:10:54Speaker 10: familiar with him, I have to give him credit because
- 1:10:57Speaker 10: he completely covered 1989.
- 1:10:59Speaker 5: Oh, I heard about this.
- 1:11:00Speaker 10: He, in its entirety, recreated the same year it came
- 1:11:06Speaker 10: out by.
- 1:11:07Speaker 5: The all-powerful Taylor. So the fact that anybody would have
- 1:11:11Speaker 5: the nerve to.
- 1:11:12Speaker 10: Completely cover her album immediately after hers comes out and
- 1:11:16Speaker 10: makes a fortune, I got to give him points for
- 1:11:18Speaker 10: audacity on that one.
- 1:11:20Speaker 5: You kind of get cool points for that. Yeah, I
- 1:11:23Speaker 5: heard about that. So that's why I'm on the fence
- 1:11:24Speaker 5: with him.
- 1:11:24Speaker 10: Like, I don't know what to think. He does that
- 1:11:27Speaker 10: obnoxious move, and I kind of like it.
- 1:11:29Speaker 5: And then there's some other things I've heard. Pretty ballsy.
- 1:11:32Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 1:11:33Speaker 10: So with that, this next one will kind of halfway
- 1:11:36Speaker 10: go with him, but not really. This is another one
- 1:11:39Speaker 10: that he wrote, but then it got handed off to
- 1:11:41Speaker 10: somebody else. I think you can find him doing a
- 1:11:43Speaker 10: cover of it as some sort of weird B-side somewhere.
- 1:11:46Speaker 10: But again, our soundtrack tie-in on Jay and Sally Bob
- 1:11:51Speaker 10: Strike Back The soundtrack, you know you all have it
- 1:11:54Speaker 10: at home, playing.
- 1:11:55Speaker 5: It every day.
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: It's in my cassette player right now.
- 1:11:57Speaker 10: I hope so, and I hope you have a cassette player.
- 1:12:00Speaker 5: You're so hip. You are Napoleon Dynamite. Wait a minute.
- 1:12:03Speaker 6: I am.
- 1:12:04Speaker 5: I live in a van, so. Cool.
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: I actually have a cassette player.
- 1:12:09Speaker 5: Your goal points just went up.
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: Thanks.
- 1:12:11Speaker 5: You live in a van.
- 1:12:12Speaker 21: Yeah.
- 1:12:14Speaker 10: So, the song Choked Up, written by Ryan Adams, but
- 1:12:18Speaker 10: on this soundtrack performed by Minibar.
- 1:12:22Speaker 5: Minibar.
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: Minibar.
- 1:12:25Speaker 17: Enjoy.
- 1:12:33Speaker 7: I don't know why we can't talk Every time we
- 1:12:38Speaker 7: try we get choked up Running with the feelings that
- 1:12:42Speaker 7: are caught in my head Till I can't remember what
- 1:12:46Speaker 7: it was we said All.
- 1:12:49Speaker 14: My friends say I'm in.
- 1:12:51Speaker 7: Love This is what I think they're thinking of.
- 1:13:00Speaker 4: I don't know why we can't win Every time we.
- 1:13:05Speaker 7: Lose we just pretend Running out of.
- 1:13:11Speaker 4: Money at the end of the month Knowing I can
- 1:13:16Speaker 4: buy the things I want All my friends say I'm
- 1:13:22Speaker 4: in love This is what I think they're.
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: Thinking of Train myself with.
- 1:13:36Speaker 7: Thoughts of leaving Running out of things left to leave.
- 1:13:41Speaker 4: In Running out of money and time Running out of
- 1:13:48Speaker 4: money and time You won't be mine.
- 1:14:00Speaker 7: I don't know why we can't talk Every time we
- 1:14:05Speaker 7: try we get choked up Running with the feelings that
- 1:14:09Speaker 7: are caught in my head Till.
- 1:14:12Speaker 4: I can't remember what.
- 1:14:13Speaker 13: It was we said All my friends say I'm in
- 1:14:18Speaker 13: love This is what I think they're thinking of.
- 1:14:27Speaker 4: Count my friends on my left hand I.
- 1:14:31Speaker 13: Don't need another one, wouldn't understand Train myself with thoughts
- 1:14:45Speaker 13: of leaving Running out of things left to believe in.
- 1:14:50Speaker 4: Running out of money and time Running out of money
- 1:14:56Speaker 4: and time You won't be mine All my friends say
- 1:15:04Speaker 4: I'm in love This is what I think that we
- 1:15:07Speaker 4: can do All my friends say I'm in love This
- 1:15:12Speaker 4: is what I think that we can.
- 1:15:14Speaker 10: Do All right, so you should have at least one
- 1:15:19Speaker 10: more to go on here, right?
- 1:15:20Speaker 5: Of your personal beloved song.
- 1:15:23Speaker 8: Uh.
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: I choked up on the third one. Couldn't think of one.
- 1:15:27Speaker 5: Okay, now we'll go top of the head. Any movie.
- 1:15:32Speaker 5: What's the first movie that comes to mind? Have you
- 1:15:37Speaker 5: seen a movie lately? Old or new?
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: I've seen lots of movies. I've seen many, many movies recently.
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: I saw Neon Demon recently.
- 1:15:50Speaker 5: All right. I've heard good things.
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: I can't even think of any actual... Songs that weren't, like,
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: just actual music from the movie.
- 1:16:00Speaker 5: The score?
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: Yeah, just the score.
- 1:16:02Speaker 5: Did you like the score?
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: Yeah, actually, the song, the music in it was great.
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: I just can't recall any of it at the moment.
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: In the 93 degree weather. My brain is fried.
- 1:16:15Speaker 5: I'm so sorry. Nice, sunny, maybe literally.
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't, I mean.
- 1:16:20Speaker 5: I wondered what that noise was.
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: I can smell something cooking.
- 1:16:21Speaker 5: Sizzling, okay. Wow. That's right, it's Nicholas Winning Repton. Of
- 1:16:25Speaker 5: course he's got a soundtrack.
- 1:16:27Speaker 10: He's another one of those geeks that has a perfect
- 1:16:30Speaker 10: soundtrack every time.
- 1:16:33Speaker 5: That's part of his mission.
- 1:16:35Speaker 10: How can I come up with the perfect weird music
- 1:16:38Speaker 10: to go with my weird movie?
- 1:16:40Speaker 5: Cliff Martinez and the Neon Demon Orchestra.
- 1:16:53Speaker 4: Thank you. Thank you. so so so so.
- 1:19:04Speaker 5: Which I think he did.
- 1:19:04Speaker 10: I think he did Only God Forgives, because I played
- 1:19:07Speaker 10: one of those before, actually.
- 1:19:08Speaker 4: Oh.
- 1:19:08Speaker 5: That is sort of his go-to guy now, I guess.
- 1:19:11Speaker 2: And as soon as I leave, I'm going to think
- 1:19:14Speaker 2: of a thousand great songs from movies.
- 1:19:17Speaker 5: Probably. That's usually how it goes.
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: Once I hit some air conditioning.
- 1:19:21Speaker 5: They make that still?
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: No.
- 1:19:22Speaker 5: I don't think so.
- 1:19:24Speaker 2: When I go to sleep, it'll be in my dreams.
- 1:19:26Speaker 5: If you vote for me, all of your wildest dreams
- 1:19:29Speaker 5: will come true. All right. So, again.
- 1:19:32Speaker 10: tonight, they're closing things out with some big names. Brandi Carlile,
- 1:19:36Speaker 10: I gotta say, she's got a pretty damn good voice.
- 1:19:39Speaker 10: And looking back, like, she's been in some others.
- 1:19:42Speaker 5: Don't think I didn't want to play something from Sisterhood
- 1:19:45Speaker 5: of the Traveling Pants, because I did.
- 1:19:47Speaker 10: But when I got to, I'm.
- 1:19:50Speaker 5: Like, if they have the story, I have to, damn it,
- 1:19:52Speaker 5: there it is, the story. I can't fight the story.
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: Like, Can't do it.
- 1:19:56Speaker 5: Her voice is so damn good in that.
- 1:19:58Speaker 10: And there's an extra little game that once they play
- 1:20:01Speaker 10: it on the radio all the time, I'd be like, okay,
- 1:20:04Speaker 10: you get that half a verse in before the guitar
- 1:20:07Speaker 10: kicks in, and somehow that makes it ten times heavier.
- 1:20:10Speaker 5: When it comes up. So go ahead and listen right now,
- 1:20:12Speaker 5: because it's going to be badass.
- 1:20:13Speaker 10: So this is from The Lucky One, and it is
- 1:20:17Speaker 10: the story, and I don't care if you've heard it before,
- 1:20:18Speaker 10: it's badass.
- 1:20:19Speaker 27: All of these lines across my face.
- 1:20:24Speaker 28: Tell you the story of who I am So many
- 1:20:30Speaker 28: stories of where I've been And now I got to
- 1:20:36Speaker 28: where I am.
- 1:20:40Speaker 27: But these stories.
- 1:20:42Speaker 28: Don't mean anything When you've got no one to tell
- 1:20:49Speaker 28: them to It's the truth.
- 1:20:54Speaker 20: I was made for you. I climbed across the mountain tops.
- 1:21:05Speaker 4: Swam all across the ocean blue.
- 1:21:08Speaker 27: I crossed all the lands.
- 1:21:12Speaker 14: And I roamed all over.
- 1:21:16Speaker 4: I broke them all for you Oh, because even.
- 1:21:23Speaker 27: When I was flat broke You made me feel like
- 1:21:30Speaker 27: a million bucks You knew I was made for you.
- 1:21:37Speaker 4: Guitar solo.
- 1:22:22Speaker 8: You see the smell that's on my mouth.
- 1:22:27Speaker 27: It's hiding the words that.
- 1:22:29Speaker 4: Don't come out.
- 1:22:32Speaker 27: All of my friends who think that I'm blessed. They
- 1:22:38Speaker 27: don't know my head is a mess No, they don't
- 1:22:45Speaker 27: know who I.
- 1:22:47Speaker 20: Really am And they don't know what I've been through
- 1:22:53Speaker 20: Like you do And I was made for you.
- 1:23:03Speaker 4: Oh, I've lost my face. Tell you the story of
- 1:23:10Speaker 4: who I am.
- 1:23:11Speaker 27: So many stories of where I've been.
- 1:23:18Speaker 4: And now I can't see.
- 1:23:25Speaker 27: Stories don't mean anything But you've got.
- 1:23:33Speaker 4: No one to tell them to It's true that I
- 1:23:39Speaker 4: was made for you Oh yeah, it's true that I
- 1:23:49Speaker 4: was made for.
- 1:23:50Speaker 18: You You're lucky.
- 1:23:54Speaker 4: He's lucky. I'm lucky. We're all lucky.
- 1:23:59Speaker 5: From the lucky one.
- 1:24:00Speaker 10: Now, I know you, Napoleon Dynamite, that you are also
- 1:24:04Speaker 10: probably a big Nicholas Sparks fan.
- 1:24:06Speaker 11: No.
- 1:24:06Speaker 5: You love the Nicholas Sparks. No. You read all the books.
- 1:24:10Speaker 4: Oh.
- 1:24:11Speaker 5: But they're so dreamy and schmaltzy.
- 1:24:15Speaker 2: Oh, my gosh, no. No, thank you.
- 1:24:17Speaker 10: What sort of deal with Satan did Nicholas Sparks make that, like,
- 1:24:22Speaker 10: I mean, it's not only that every one of those
- 1:24:24Speaker 10: books is.
- 1:24:25Speaker 5: A bestseller, but they now make them all into movies.
- 1:24:28Speaker 5: And they all make money. And they have the biggest budgets.
- 1:24:32Speaker 5: They can afford to get Randy Carlisle.
- 1:24:34Speaker 10: I don't understand it.
- 1:24:37Speaker 2: No. I'm so sorry.
- 1:24:40Speaker 5: I'm just flabbergasted by the existence of Nicholas Sparks. It's
- 1:24:46Speaker 5: a nightmare.
- 1:24:46Speaker 6: It's disgusting.
- 1:24:48Speaker 2: My roommate in college really was into The Notebook. And
- 1:24:52Speaker 2: she played it all the time.
- 1:24:53Speaker 5: And I hated it. I was like, please stop. Please.
- 1:24:57Speaker 5: Playing the movie nonstop on a loop?
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:25:00Speaker 18: Yep.
- 1:25:01Speaker 5: Or did she also get the soundtrack?
- 1:25:02Speaker 2: I don't think she... No, she wasn't much into music.
- 1:25:06Speaker 5: She just watched the movie. She was a loser. Well,
- 1:25:08Speaker 5: she did like the notebooks. I think that's just redundant
- 1:25:11Speaker 5: at this point.
- 1:25:11Speaker 17: Son of a bitch!
- 1:25:13Speaker 5: Alright, so. As we're rounding things out here.
- 1:25:16Speaker 10: I mean, we already had that Justin person plug his
- 1:25:20Speaker 10: nonsense and We plugged his wife and she wasn't even here.
- 1:25:23Speaker 10: Do you have anything you'd like to pass on to
- 1:25:24Speaker 10: the world?
- 1:25:26Speaker 5: I would hope all people have their own websites.
- 1:25:28Speaker 10: You should certainly plug your website that you as a
- 1:25:31Speaker 10: regular person have.
- 1:25:33Speaker 2: Can I plug my husband's website?
- 1:25:35Speaker 5: I guess if you want to. If you're using those
- 1:25:37Speaker 5: bonds of marriage or whatnot.
- 1:25:39Speaker 2: Yeah, that's good.
- 1:25:41Speaker 5: So I hear he's an artist. He is.
- 1:25:43Speaker 2: He's an illustrator and screen printer. Does a little graphic design. Um,
- 1:25:49Speaker 2: And his website is loganschmidt.com.
- 1:25:53Speaker 4: All right.
- 1:25:54Speaker 10: And can they send emails to him yelling at you
- 1:25:57Speaker 10: about things that you did or didn't say on this show?
- 1:26:00Speaker 2: Oh, they can. Yeah, they can send some abusive stuff.
- 1:26:03Speaker 2: He's going to read it.
- 1:26:04Speaker 5: I know. Please write and be like, your wife.
- 1:26:08Speaker 10: Like they should all start off with like, let me
- 1:26:10Speaker 10: tell you. Like they should really just sort of lay
- 1:26:13Speaker 10: into you.
- 1:26:13Speaker 5: But I'll go to him.
- 1:26:14Speaker 2: I really hate your wife. And I hope that's what
- 1:26:17Speaker 2: they all say.
- 1:26:18Speaker 5: No, not our lovely listeners would never say that about us.
- 1:26:22Speaker 2: Thanks, guys.
- 1:26:22Speaker 10: Especially we have this mental image of Napoleon Dynamite, and
- 1:26:25Speaker 10: we all love him. So, you know, we.
- 1:26:28Speaker 5: Got that going for you.
- 1:26:29Speaker 2: There you go.
- 1:26:30Speaker 5: You'll be saved by that. Thank you. Well, okay, so
- 1:26:35Speaker 5: we got your plug in there.
- 1:26:36Speaker 10: I do at least want to say thank you to
- 1:26:38Speaker 10: Fourcastle for letting us come here and loiter about.
- 1:26:42Speaker 5: You sat at a table the whole time, but.
- 1:26:43Speaker 10: I wandered around, which has become my thing at every festival, convention, event.
- 1:26:48Speaker 10: Most weekends of my life, I just roam around and
- 1:26:50Speaker 10: pace in circles, and occasionally I pin down somebody who
- 1:26:53Speaker 10: can't escape at a table, and.
- 1:26:54Speaker 5: Then they have to come talk to me.
- 1:26:56Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah, we're on.
- 1:26:57Speaker 5: You're the unlucky winner slash loser this week.
- 1:27:00Speaker 2: I'm sorry, guys.
- 1:27:01Speaker 5: Sorry for you.
- 1:27:03Speaker 2: So sorry.
- 1:27:04Speaker 5: Sorry for you.
- 1:27:05Speaker 2: But thank you, Fourcastle.
- 1:27:07Speaker 5: Thank you, Fourcastle, for making that happen. Look at the...
- 1:27:10Speaker 5: We've changed her life. Look how happy she is.
- 1:27:12Speaker 4: Yay!
- 1:27:14Speaker 5: And you people at home. You all got to experience
- 1:27:17Speaker 5: the wonder that is our trip to forecastle. Woo.
- 1:27:20Speaker 10: Again, it is amazingly well run and they have been
- 1:27:23Speaker 10: bringing in pretty impressive names every year. So to find
- 1:27:27Speaker 10: out what's in the works the next time, go to forecastlefest.com
- 1:27:31Speaker 10: and you can, I'm sure they'll sell you tickets right now.
- 1:27:34Speaker 10: If not, go get on there. They're very present on
- 1:27:37Speaker 10: the social medias as well. So I'm sure you can
- 1:27:40Speaker 10: get signed up and they will let you know when
- 1:27:42Speaker 10: the tickets go on sale for next year.
- 1:27:43Speaker 12: So.
- 1:27:45Speaker 10: Head on over for castlefest.com otherwise i was trying to
- 1:27:51Speaker 10: find a way we alluded to this band earlier justin
- 1:27:55Speaker 10: has his issues with them and actually you were there
- 1:27:58Speaker 10: as we were sitting there um last night we were
- 1:28:02Speaker 10: listening to a certain big gigantic it was wailing away
- 1:28:05Speaker 10: on the sax behind us and we were trying to
- 1:28:08Speaker 10: decide i'm like it's it's it's got good aspects to
- 1:28:12Speaker 10: it and like it feels like it's missing something you
- 1:28:14Speaker 10: know what it's missing.
- 1:28:15Speaker 23: Grizz because i realized as i went and listened to
- 1:28:19Speaker 23: this track which is written by grizz and is performed
- 1:28:22Speaker 23: by grizz and features big gigantic all of a sudden
- 1:28:27Speaker 23: it comes together what they need is a little more
- 1:28:29Speaker 23: grizz get grizz in there we.
- 1:28:30Speaker 10: Need a little grizz in our life you know don't
- 1:28:32Speaker 10: we all don't we all need a little more grizz
- 1:28:34Speaker 10: in our life so this one and i thought this
- 1:28:37Speaker 10: is a fun song this is.
- 1:28:38Speaker 5: How we'll go out this is how we'll leave the festival.
- 1:28:41Speaker 10: It's from, once again, Melissa McCarthy knocking them out. This
- 1:28:45Speaker 10: one's from The Boss 2016, but she's got a movie
- 1:28:48Speaker 10: opening this weekend, and everybody loves it. Nobody's got anything
- 1:28:51Speaker 10: bad to say about it. I love Melissa McCarthy. I
- 1:28:54Speaker 10: don't care what you people say. But this is from
- 1:28:56Speaker 10: the boss. It is Good Times Roll by Grizz and
- 1:29:00Speaker 10: Big Gigantic. And with that, I will remind you, Get
- 1:29:02Speaker 10: a Life will provide the soundtrack.
- 1:29:07Speaker 4: And it goes a little something like this. Here we go.
- 1:29:09Speaker 4: I ain't got nothing but a little song, a little
- 1:29:12Speaker 4: tune to play to make the good times roll.
- 1:29:14Speaker 8: I ain't got nothing but a bag of green, two
- 1:29:15Speaker 8: dancing shoes and.
- 1:29:16Speaker 4: My friends with me. I ain't got nothing but a little.
- 1:29:18Speaker 21: Song, a little tune to play to make the good
- 1:29:20Speaker 21: times roll.
- 1:29:20Speaker 5: I ain't got nothing. Don't that feel real funky y'all? Now,
- 1:30:34Speaker 5: usually we don't do.
- 1:30:34Speaker 8: This, but I think I'm going to need a little
- 1:30:37Speaker 8: help from the horn section.
- 1:30:38Speaker 4: Is that all right?
- 1:30:40Speaker 6: And that goes a little something like this.
- 1:30:42Speaker 4: Here we go. Na, na, na, na, na. Na, na, na, na, na. Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na. Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na.
- 1:31:19Speaker 6: Here we go. So I'll basically just nod my head
- 1:32:46Speaker 6: and agree.
- 1:32:46Speaker 5: That works best on podcasts.
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:32:50Speaker 5: Mostly. I like to do a lot of hand signs.
- 1:32:52Speaker 18: Uh-huh.
- 1:32:52Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:32:53Speaker 11: Signals.
- 1:32:53Speaker 5: That's cool. Steel second. You know, I like to get
- 1:32:55Speaker 5: those in there.
- 1:32:56Speaker 4: Done.
- 1:32:57Speaker 5: Forecast. Forecast. What are we at?
- 1:33:00Speaker 2: Forecast?
