- 0:00SPEAKER_06: In this episode, we talk our weekend's action.
- 0:04SPEAKER_06: We take everyone's questions from Instagram and Twitter, the first ever round of Start Bench Cell, and of course shit or hit.
- 0:14SPEAKER_06: It's all coming next.
- 0:29SPEAKER_06: Let's stick together.
- 0:30SPEAKER_06: Yup Episode 2.
- 0:32SPEAKER_06: Brought to you by YWAP.
- 0:34SPEAKER_05: It's so much more professional in Phil, does it?
- 0:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Phil.
- 0:39SPEAKER_03: Just accept your role as the main, as the leader of this pack, as the one adult in this podcast, just accept it, mate.
- 0:48SPEAKER_03: You're working with two like mentally, mentally five-year-olds who occasionally say something funny or ridiculous, and you are just the one sane guy in this group.
- 0:58SPEAKER_03: Just accept it, mate.
- 0:59SPEAKER_06: So for anyone's information, you've tried to do the intro and um got annoyed and then passed it back to me.
- 1:08SPEAKER_06: So we've had we've had to edit that bit out.
- 1:11SPEAKER_06: Also, we are on new software, which Brendan is incredibly excited about.
- 1:15SPEAKER_06: He sent me many messages this week about this new software.
- 1:18SPEAKER_06: So if it's shit, you know it's his fault.
- 1:21SPEAKER_06: But apparently it's gonna give us loads of content, gonna bring more to you.
- 1:25SPEAKER_06: So thank you, Brendan, for that.
- 1:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, to add to to add on that, maybe maybe it's good to to to to say we'll we'll put the my intro as like uh the end snippet as the end bit, and people can judge whether they think it was dead shit or not.
- 1:41SPEAKER_03: I was just a bit on the spot and I was a panicking a bit.
- 1:45SPEAKER_03: That's all I'm gonna say.
- 1:46SPEAKER_03: But keep listening till the end.
- 1:47SPEAKER_03: And if you do like this new format, send us an email at let's stick together 2018 at hotmail.com.
- 1:55SPEAKER_03: gmail.com.
- 1:57SPEAKER_03: Gmail.com.
- 1:58SPEAKER_06: And he it's 2018 because Brendan thought the podcast started in 2018.
- 2:02SPEAKER_06: Yeah, let's move on quick.
- 2:04SPEAKER_06: Started in 2020.
- 2:05SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 2:07SPEAKER_06: Um we're thank you for everyone who you know got in touch about last week.
- 2:12SPEAKER_06: Um it was really, really nice uh to be back.
- 2:16SPEAKER_06: Pretty actually enjoyable.
- 2:17SPEAKER_06: Hard to admit that you know being in a being in a virtual room with these two choppers is actually quite good fun.
- 2:24SPEAKER_06: Um Sam Zib got in touch and said it was filling the void he had of not hearing Yupe on the closet weekly.
- 2:31SPEAKER_06: So you I guess we've got to get you on the closet more often.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: Good luck.
- 2:37SPEAKER_06: Charlie Francis said any danger of changing our cover art.
- 2:40SPEAKER_06: We always ask for abuse, and occasionally people give it to us, and I think Brendan did fire back at that.
- 2:46SPEAKER_05: I didn't fire back, I asked what he meant, and he basically means we need a new logo, which I couldn't agree more.
- 2:51SPEAKER_05: He basically thinks we need you in the logo, which is very much true.
- 2:54SPEAKER_03: And I've been asking for this for six for six seasons, and we are only doing five yet.
- 3:00SPEAKER_03: So I'm I'm a bit done with the whole new logo thing.
- 3:03SPEAKER_03: Or either your friend figures it out or everybody shuts the fuck up about the new logo.
- 3:10SPEAKER_05: Uh I have been scouring the world of paid logo making to see if we can basically hire somebody to build a logo for us.
- 3:18SPEAKER_05: So I'm in the process of searching for a new logo.
- 3:21SPEAKER_06: To be honest, Brendan, you basically did it.
- 3:23SPEAKER_06: We could just do it with an LST on, and that'd be pretty, pretty good because at least it doesn't just have me and you in it.
- 3:30SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I mean, I'm gonna try and find something proper.
- 3:33SPEAKER_05: So we're gonna get something proper, it's just gonna take a bit of time.
- 3:35SPEAKER_06: Just a quick side note before we get on to how do we get on this week and stuff.
- 3:40SPEAKER_06: Um, our editor, Theo, actually did a piece for the hockey paper recently and um actually named himself as our producer.
- 3:49SPEAKER_06: So that was also news to us.
- 3:51SPEAKER_06: Um but he also he did do a cool piece uh about us on the hockey paper.
- 3:56SPEAKER_06: So if you want to check it out, thank you, Theo.
- 3:58SPEAKER_06: We love you really.
- 3:59SPEAKER_06: But um this is the bit where you pin sort you.
- 4:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah, well I'm my English is is far from flawless, but I thought a producer was also like in in in charge of content and shit.
- 4:13SPEAKER_03: I think Theo, from the bottom of our hearts, we love you.
- 4:18SPEAKER_03: But you're stretching it a little bit, mate.
- 4:22SPEAKER_02: I ain't I ain't got no bars on this podcast.
- 4:27SPEAKER_06: Okay, now we're just insulting the people to help us, so we'll probably move on.
- 4:30SPEAKER_06: Um we all played Theo.
- 4:35SPEAKER_06: We all played this weekend.
- 4:36SPEAKER_06: You played in the um the standard great preseason tournament that is the A B and Ambro.
- 4:43SPEAKER_06: Um me and Brendan played our first league games for Serbert and Holcombe.
- 4:47SPEAKER_06: I'll come to Yupe first.
- 4:48SPEAKER_06: How was your how was your week?
- 4:51SPEAKER_03: Oh mate, it I I want to keep it short, but it's impossible because uh I had a big big fallout with the referee, who if anyone uh didn't know yet, um pretty annoying people in general.
- 5:08SPEAKER_03: There are there there probably are some exceptions to the rule, but this time they took it, he he took it too far.
- 5:14SPEAKER_03: He we we had like almost an altercation after the game where I just said, What did you think of your own game?
- 5:20SPEAKER_03: He said he thought he was pretty good.
- 5:22SPEAKER_03: I thought he was completely and utterly blind the whole game.
- 5:27SPEAKER_03: Um but I think we met somewhere in the middle in which he said that my um behavior on the field was not okay, which in to to to be fair to him wasn't, because I was yelling at him all game long.
- 5:42SPEAKER_03: I was the biggest bitch ever, but he just didn't see anything, and it was like this moment where Yelle he he he pushed it on someone's foot.
- 5:49SPEAKER_03: I think everyone saw it, except for the two guys who have to see it, and that's where I completely lost my mind, and I was a bit uh Calimero, or not a bit, I was complete Calimero.
- 6:01SPEAKER_03: I was finding myself really uh pathetic and doing pathetic shit all game, and we lost 3-1 to Rotterdam.
- 6:08SPEAKER_03: Uh, to give some context, the winner of the ABN Amber Cup uh has never been the champion of Holland.
- 6:15SPEAKER_03: Uh, that's my like excuse that we lost.
- 6:18SPEAKER_03: While we did really want to win, we'd really tried, but we're just not good enough.
- 6:22SPEAKER_03: We played shit game.
- 6:24SPEAKER_03: Uh so that was kind of a summary of my ABN Amber Cup.
- 6:28SPEAKER_03: And in the semi-final, we beat your your guys' mates or your mate, and I also really like him.
- 6:32SPEAKER_03: Draper 4-0, it can spin okay.
- 6:34SPEAKER_03: So we thought we were really good, and then we we were on cloud nine, or cloud what do you call it?
- 6:39SPEAKER_03: Cloud nine, yeah, and then we were pushed back by Rotterdam to um cloud zero, and now we're starting against them both next week.
- 6:48SPEAKER_03: How was you guys this weekend?
- 6:51SPEAKER_06: Well, first of all, I mean you got to the final, so that's that's pretty good, I would say.
- 6:57SPEAKER_06: You may you kind of missed that bit in the whole like you having a go in umpire, so well done with that.
- 7:02SPEAKER_06: Because it's probably been a while since you got to the final of the Ape Ambro.
- 7:05SPEAKER_06: That's pretty good.
- 7:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's true.
- 7:07SPEAKER_03: But I got I've gotten a bit used to winning finals now.
- 7:11SPEAKER_06: So well, I couldn't take myself seriously.
- 7:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I couldn't take myself seriously.
- 7:18SPEAKER_03: No, it was good.
- 7:19SPEAKER_03: It was a good week.
- 7:20SPEAKER_03: How did you guys get on?
- 7:21SPEAKER_03: Because you guys actually played for something.
- 7:22SPEAKER_03: Did you guys win?
- 7:24SPEAKER_06: Brendan.
- 7:25SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah, won the first game.
- 7:28SPEAKER_05: Um yeah, it's quite we're in quite a unique position this year in the fact that we've got five drag flickers.
- 7:35SPEAKER_05: So we've we've got like a surplus of flickers on our team this year, which is pretty cool.
- 7:40SPEAKER_05: Um, yeah, it's actually quite enjoyable.
- 7:43SPEAKER_05: Five, yeah, five.
- 7:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but well I want some context because everybody calls themselves drag flicker now.
- 7:50SPEAKER_03: Uh even I'm starting to question if I'm a drag flicker or not.
- 7:52SPEAKER_03: Like, are there serious drag flickers?
- 7:54SPEAKER_03: Because even Phil says he's a drag flicker.
- 7:56SPEAKER_03: Come on.
- 7:57SPEAKER_05: I don't the five of our flickers have all flicked internationally, so I'd class that as flickers.
- 8:05SPEAKER_05: Name them.
- 8:07SPEAKER_05: Uh Luca Taylor.
- 8:11SPEAKER_05: Gareth Furlong.
- 8:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 8:15SPEAKER_05: Drew and Connor.
- 8:18SPEAKER_05: Our new Scottish boy.
- 8:20SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 8:20SPEAKER_05: Um Rushman.
- 8:24SPEAKER_05: One of the GB lads.
- 8:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he has never flicked a corner.
- 8:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he has.
- 8:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he has.
- 8:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay.
- 8:31SPEAKER_02: Kellan also flicked a corner, scored one incredible goal.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: Why did you always do this?
- 8:39SPEAKER_03: Let me guess.
- 8:40SPEAKER_03: He he is top ten in the world.
- 8:42SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I I didn't say that.
- 8:43SPEAKER_05: I'm just saying we it's nice to have a lot of options, basically.
- 8:46SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it was a good game, good fun.
- 8:48SPEAKER_05: Nice to play back in the league again.
- 8:50SPEAKER_05: Um yeah, we've had uh Hampstead and Westminster, which is they were missing a lot of players, so granted, it was a much easier game than what it would be normally.
- 9:00SPEAKER_05: Um yeah, good fun.
- 9:02SPEAKER_05: Good game.
- 9:03SPEAKER_05: Phil, how was yours?
- 9:05SPEAKER_06: I just brain, just very quickly, and I'm gonna try and not say this mean, but you meant to tell people who you play and how you get on to start with, I think.
- 9:12SPEAKER_06: Not just saying, it's not worth it.
- 9:15SPEAKER_05: So um uh we won 5-2 against Hampstead, done.
- 9:18SPEAKER_05: Go on, Phil.
- 9:21SPEAKER_06: Um, we played Reading at home and won 4-0.
- 9:26SPEAKER_06: And um it was pretty good.
- 9:28SPEAKER_06: I really like our signings this year.
- 9:30SPEAKER_06: We've uh assigned uh Brad Reed from New Zealand, who's uh Kiwi International signed uh uh guy called Alex Pendle, who I I'm not gonna lie, I had no idea who he was, but he's really really good, so very happy with that.
- 9:45SPEAKER_06: Um and um I've gotta say it, I scored two goals.
- 9:50SPEAKER_06: I'm not really sure how, but I scored two, it was a good game, felt good, felt fresh.
- 9:57SPEAKER_06: It's exciting time.
- 9:58SPEAKER_06: We've got like four weeks until we play in the first round of the EHL in Barcelona, so there's always extra incentive for the teams playing in EHL uh to start strong, and um pretty excited because we got we got a draw that actually we could we could go places with.
- 10:16SPEAKER_06: We play a French team first, and then if we win that we would probably play Polo Club, uh the Spanish team from Barcelona in polo club, which I think would be unbelievable.
- 10:27SPEAKER_06: So again, lots of incentive to to play well.
- 10:31SPEAKER_03: Polo's pretty good.
- 10:32SPEAKER_03: French will probably suck.
- 10:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah, come on, that's good.
- 10:37SPEAKER_03: French will probably be shit.
- 10:42SPEAKER_03: No, I'm yeah they they've they've got their loads.
- 10:44SPEAKER_03: I uh to be honest, you played Reading.
- 10:47SPEAKER_03: I'm I was always under the assumption Reading was in Wales.
- 10:49SPEAKER_03: I don't know why.
- 10:52SPEAKER_06: Yeah, but you thought Three Rock Rovers was in England, so uh I don't know where we go from that.
- 10:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, fair point.
- 10:59SPEAKER_06: I would I would touch like very quickly on the England Hockey League this year.
- 11:04SPEAKER_06: They have decided to move all of the games, all the Premier League games to a Saturday evening, which actually um, in my opinion, is a good move because basically in England not many people come to the Sunday games, and it it gives extra incentive for people after their games on a Saturday to come back, uh have a beer and watch the first team play, which I'm I'm in uh you know I'm in a good camp.
- 11:29SPEAKER_06: Also, it get it means that we get Sundays off and Saturday mornings free, and just very selfishly I like that.
- 11:36SPEAKER_06: Um, Brendan, what do you make of it?
- 11:39SPEAKER_05: Um yeah, I was about to say I agree, apart from we still had people that came and watched on Sunday.
- 11:44SPEAKER_05: I can't imagine many people make the trip to Kent on a Sunday to come watch you guys.
- 11:49SPEAKER_06: Normally people from Kent, but yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 11:53SPEAKER_05: It's a money club film, nobody's interested in travelling when they're not getting paid to watch.
- 11:57SPEAKER_05: No one's in there, no one's interested.
- 12:00SPEAKER_05: Oh wow.
- 12:01SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I mean, I don't know if you know how it works in general, but people from the area generally go and support the team that is in their area.
- 12:11SPEAKER_05: So no one I want to say that, but when all your players don't really live near your club, it becomes a bit surely a bit.
- 12:19SPEAKER_05: Where do you live?
- 12:20SPEAKER_05: Uh where did I used to live?
- 12:22SPEAKER_05: Serbiton, yeah, yeah, which is why I'm not sure.
- 12:24SPEAKER_05: No, no, no.
- 12:25SPEAKER_06: Where do you live?
- 12:25SPEAKER_05: Yeah, no, no, I used to live in Cerbertonville, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:28SPEAKER_05: That's why that's why I played for Certain, yeah.
- 12:33SPEAKER_06: There's some there's some cool stuff going on though.
- 12:35SPEAKER_06: People I think clubs are really trying to get behind uh getting more audiences in, getting more crowds in.
- 12:41SPEAKER_06: Uh, E.G.
- 12:42SPEAKER_06: East Grinstead, I saw, did a really good job this week.
- 12:44SPEAKER_06: They had like um some gazebos up, looked like loads of people went down, looks like they had flares, was really cool.
- 12:50SPEAKER_06: So um You maybe were slowly tiny, making tiny steps to get towards where you guys are at.
- 12:57SPEAKER_06: Um just a final thought from last week, which we didn't touch on from the Europeans, was I think uh You said about it, but was the spitting instant, which was in the Spain versus France game.
- 13:10SPEAKER_06: Uh they had a very, very feisty game, and uh one of the Spanish most well like better well-known players, Quique Gonzalez, who to be honest with you, I always think he's a pretty nice guy.
- 13:23SPEAKER_06: He must have seen red and um spat in the face of a French player, if anyone didn't know what happened, and it was caught perfectly on camera.
- 13:33SPEAKER_06: Um I was gonna ask you what you both thought of it, but before that, he only got a one game ban, and also what you guys think of that.
- 13:43SPEAKER_03: Well, I said I said uh last week that I don't completely disagree with him spinning in the French guy's face.
- 13:50SPEAKER_03: Like I get where he's coming from.
- 13:55SPEAKER_03: No, I think I think to be honest, no, spitting in someone's face is might be taking it a little too far.
- 14:07SPEAKER_03: Um, I think that's I was on the verge this weekend with the referee to do it.
- 14:12SPEAKER_03: Like it's it's only a one one one game band, so who gives a shit?
- 14:17SPEAKER_03: No, but I it's it's spitting.
- 14:19SPEAKER_03: I think spitting in someone's face kind of crosses the line.
- 14:22SPEAKER_03: I think um uh I always said uh that in hockey people act tough and they like go up to each other like oh motherfucker, this that no one actually ever throws a punch or ever really does something.
- 14:34SPEAKER_03: So I always think it's like being cool, so that's why I never do it because I know I'm never gonna punch someone.
- 14:40SPEAKER_03: But he actually um it's not a punch, but like spitting is kind of I think it's kind of like a cheap shot, but also kind of badass that you dare to spit in someone's face.
- 14:48SPEAKER_03: You must have really seen red if you did that.
- 14:51SPEAKER_06: But uh again I could not agree, I could not disagree more with anyone.
- 14:55SPEAKER_03: Are you saying it's acceptable?
- 14:58SPEAKER_03: No, I don't say it.
- 14:59SPEAKER_03: I mate, you're not listening.
- 15:00SPEAKER_03: I said I don't completely disagree because it's a first guy.
- 15:05SPEAKER_03: No, but I I think spitting is is both really low, but I do think it's kind of better as that I would never dare to spit in someone's face.
- 15:13SPEAKER_03: That's what I said.
- 15:14SPEAKER_03: I don't agree with it.
- 15:15SPEAKER_06: It's the it's the it's it's definitely the worst thing you can do.
- 15:18SPEAKER_06: So sorry, Brent, go on.
- 15:19SPEAKER_05: No, no, no.
- 15:19SPEAKER_05: I'm I'm I'm with you, Phil.
- 15:21SPEAKER_05: I'm more asking, I want to know you've definitive answer on what should be the ban because you kind of agree with it, don't agree with it.
- 15:27SPEAKER_03: Are you are you saying a one-game ban is acceptable?
- 15:30SPEAKER_03: No, I said I said I would do it if it's only a one-game ban.
- 15:33SPEAKER_03: I think that's it's like if that's if that's the mark, what like then punching someone in his face is a two-game ban.
- 15:40SPEAKER_03: Like, I don't get the the ban is like ridiculous.
- 15:43SPEAKER_06: I think spitting's worse.
- 15:44SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I think spitting's the worst.
- 15:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but a one-game ban, that's like that's nothing.
- 15:49SPEAKER_06: So that's what I mean.
- 15:50SPEAKER_06: But then it should be the ban.
- 15:51SPEAKER_06: That's why it's ridiculous.
- 15:53SPEAKER_03: I think it should be.
- 15:55SPEAKER_03: But on the other hand, if you ban him for pro league games, do you really really punish him?
- 16:00SPEAKER_06: Yeah, but it'd be Olympic qualifier probably.
- 16:02SPEAKER_06: Yeah, true, that's true.
- 16:04SPEAKER_05: What's the length of ban?
- 16:05SPEAKER_03: I think five games.
- 16:07SPEAKER_05: So that would that would meant that would have meant he's eligible for Olympic qualifier.
- 16:13SPEAKER_03: Brendan, I don't fucking know when Spain is playing their Olympic qualifier, mate.
- 16:16SPEAKER_03: How the fuck should I know?
- 16:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I I don't know.
- 16:19SPEAKER_03: Ben him Benham for life, I don't give a shit.
- 16:22SPEAKER_03: He spit, and I thought it was really, really funny that he spit in someone's face.
- 16:27SPEAKER_03: I'm sorry.
- 16:29SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I mean, I'm really disagreeing with everything you says, but first of all, it's it's it it still raises the profile of hockey, which in some way is probably a positive thing, but on every other level, um, it's probably the lowest thing you can possibly do, the most disgusting thing you can possibly do.
- 16:45SPEAKER_06: How the FIH can turn around and say, Oh yeah, he's he's been clearly seen to spit in the guy's face on purpose.
- 16:52SPEAKER_06: So one game ban sound okay.
- 16:55SPEAKER_06: It's just like it's like Ruhr again, like hitting somewhere at Sanford on the World Cup, like he admits to doing it, you see it happen, and they're still like, Um give up FaceTime, say sorry, and everything's alright.
- 17:08SPEAKER_06: Are we ever gonna get get our get a grip and be like, actually, spitting's fucking disgusting?
- 17:14SPEAKER_06: Like, have a 10-game ban.
- 17:15SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I'm I'm in 10 to 15 games, is what I'm thinking the ban should be, or six month ban from internationals.
- 17:22SPEAKER_05: Like, you just shouldn't be allowed to even be near a pitch if you're gonna spit as somebody.
- 17:26SPEAKER_05: It's the lowest of the low.
- 17:27SPEAKER_05: Like, you don't do it, you just don't do it.
- 17:28SPEAKER_05: It's not in your culture.
- 17:30SPEAKER_03: Okay, okay.
- 17:31SPEAKER_03: I'm okay.
- 17:31SPEAKER_03: I kinda know, I kind of feel where you guys are coming from.
- 17:34SPEAKER_03: Don't get me wrong.
- 17:34SPEAKER_03: I don't I don't condone the spitting as much as I'm saying now.
- 17:38SPEAKER_03: I think it's also terrible.
- 17:40SPEAKER_03: But now be honest.
- 17:42SPEAKER_05: The minute you say but a video.
- 17:46SPEAKER_03: When you sell the video, what was your instant reaction?
- 17:50SPEAKER_03: Did you kind of thought it was funny?
- 17:52SPEAKER_03: You were like, what the fuck is actually happening?
- 17:54SPEAKER_03: Or would you mean like, oh, oh, I'm so I'm so English and sensitive.
- 17:59SPEAKER_03: That's a 15-game ban.
- 18:01SPEAKER_03: No, you thought it was kind of like, oh, what the fuck?
- 18:04SPEAKER_03: This actually happens on a hockey pitch, and everybody's always talking, like, yeah, we're a nice sport, we're not football.
- 18:10SPEAKER_03: Uh fuck me.
- 18:11SPEAKER_03: I I I wish we were football, I would get fucking paid millions and we would play in full stadiums all the time.
- 18:16SPEAKER_03: Stop being so fucking bitchy all the time, everyone, and just go with it a little bit.
- 18:21SPEAKER_03: I know I'm not again, I'm not condoning pinning.
- 18:29SPEAKER_05: This is possibly one of the best five-minute rants I think I've ever heard from you, where you're like, I could not agree more.
- 18:36SPEAKER_05: However, it is funny.
- 18:39SPEAKER_05: No, it's disgusting, man.
- 18:41SPEAKER_05: It's it's so foul.
- 18:42SPEAKER_06: I think we'll leave it there.
- 18:44SPEAKER_06: We'll we'll we'll agree to disagree on that one.
- 18:46SPEAKER_03: You um no, no, no.
- 18:50SPEAKER_03: Uh to all to everyone out there, I don't condone the spitting.
- 18:54SPEAKER_03: I think spitting in someone's face is really, really terrible, but it is kind of funny.
- 19:01SPEAKER_06: No, right, transfer news.
- 19:06SPEAKER_06: Uh, we got shame on you.
- 19:11SPEAKER_06: Before we go on to like the questions, we'll just touch on some of the transfer stuff, um, and maybe you can tell us what's happened in Holland.
- 19:19SPEAKER_06: Um there is a bit of a strange one because if if people don't know, what normally happens is like after an Olympic year, lots of people try and go and play abroad, like Australians, New Zealanders, like uh GB, Belgians, Spanish, etc., Germans try and go to probably the Dutch league and play.
- 19:40SPEAKER_06: This year has been slightly different because we've actually had uh we've now got five GB players in an Olympic year gone to Holland to play.
- 19:51SPEAKER_06: And uh we've had a couple of questions about it, so we thought we'd just just fill in on that one.
- 19:56SPEAKER_06: Uh, if for people who don't know, um Zach Wallace is already at Blumenthal, Harry Martin's already at Rottenham, uh Tom Sorsby has gone to Denbosch, Jacob Draper has gone to Pincay, and Liam Mansell has gone to Amsterdam, and then people wanted to know why that was and what's going on.
- 20:16SPEAKER_06: Well, Brendan's gonna answer.
- 20:19SPEAKER_06: Am I?
- 20:21SPEAKER_05: Um yeah, I can do simply simply with the way that our training week is going with the GB stuff, there's now an opportunity basically for guys to go and play in what is the top league in the world.
- 20:33SPEAKER_05: Um, so it actually we get the best of both worlds from a GB point of view, which I think is pretty cool.
- 20:39SPEAKER_05: Um, it is gonna be pretty tough on some of the guys because they are gonna be traveling back mid-weeks um to come and train and then travel back again for the weekend for their games.
- 20:48SPEAKER_05: So it is gonna be pretty tough travel-wise, but we're very much hoping that the positives outweigh the negatives on that front.
- 20:54SPEAKER_05: Um, so for us, it's I think it's great.
- 20:56SPEAKER_05: I think it's good that we've got more guys in the top league.
- 20:59SPEAKER_05: Um, it does take away a little bit from our league in terms of we'd love them to be in our league to make the standard higher, but at the same time, it makes complete sense for those guys to be out there as well.
- 21:07SPEAKER_05: And they've weighed up all options and had many a discussion with people in charge, people in power.
- 21:12SPEAKER_05: Um, and they've all come to an agreement, which I think is pretty cool on that front for us.
- 21:17SPEAKER_05: You anything?
- 21:20SPEAKER_05: You didn't know that Ansel signed for Amsterdam, did you?
- 21:22SPEAKER_03: No, I I honestly I forgot that he signed for Amsterdam.
- 21:25SPEAKER_03: I think uh yeah, but what's so bad about it?
- 21:28SPEAKER_03: I I just forgot.
- 21:29SPEAKER_03: I did I didn't know I didn't know it's a little defensive tonight, aren't you?
- 21:33SPEAKER_06: It's all good.
- 21:36SPEAKER_03: You are laughing my face again.
- 21:38SPEAKER_03: No, I don't I don't really have an opinion on it.
- 21:40SPEAKER_03: I think it for it's so um normal that there's a lot of foreign players in playing in Holland, to be honest.
- 21:47SPEAKER_03: There's like a lot of foreign players all over the years, and normally in in it's it's a little less English uh when it's an Olympic year.
- 21:54SPEAKER_03: So I think it's the first year into which you guys actually allow players to go.
- 21:58SPEAKER_03: I do I don't know if.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: If the whole traveling back and forth thing is gonna be a big success uh for those players themselves, I think it will break you up a little bit if you if you have to go, even though it's only an hour flight, you're still flying every week twice.
- 22:13SPEAKER_03: So I think that that'll be kind of tough.
- 22:15SPEAKER_03: And uh don't get me wrong, I would love to have uh a couple of your players uh in uh at Orany Road, almost all of your players, uh but um we didn't succeed, so now I'm on the other side, and I think don't think it's really wise to fly back and forth all the time.
- 22:36SPEAKER_06: Let's give a um just a top transfer each of the um either English or Dutch league, who you think is like a really good signing for a team?
- 22:46SPEAKER_06: So can I put Brendan straight on the spot from the English league or it doesn't matter, women, men, uh Dutch league doesn't matter what's the top signing.
- 22:58SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 22:59SPEAKER_05: I think Draper to Pinake is a pretty pretty damn good one, to be honest with you.
- 23:06SPEAKER_05: Um yeah, that's that's my opinion on who's I'd say is the best.
- 23:11SPEAKER_05: Sign in.
- 23:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I I the only thing I do think with um with with Draper is that they uh he is really really good, but they already kind of have a couple players, they're not as good as him, but like similar to him.
- 23:28SPEAKER_03: So they they have Janis van Hutem who's their captain who's played there.
- 23:32SPEAKER_03: You guys probably don't know, but he's played there quite a couple years, and he's like a bit the same kind of style, maybe a bit more attacking drapes, is a bit more defended minded, but like so I'm curious how they how he will fit in when they already have a couple like defensive-minded midfielders.
- 23:48SPEAKER_03: So that I'm if you can sign him 100% do it, and I think he adds to their team.
- 23:53SPEAKER_03: But I don't know like how he's how his position will work as well as he would at uh in other teams.
- 23:59SPEAKER_03: Um, I'm gonna surprise you both.
- 24:02SPEAKER_03: I think the Scottish guy, Foresight to uh OGs, yes, he signed with OGs with uh all Georgians, the club of Ashley Jackson and uh and um Albrey, right?
- 24:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think that's gonna be home.
- 24:24SPEAKER_03: They were champions last year, and I think he gives them a bit more quality up front.
- 24:29SPEAKER_03: How about that?
- 24:32SPEAKER_06: The funny thing is that your your own surprise at yourself is played that peak, he's perked right up.
- 24:42SPEAKER_06: Um I'll just go with uh Morales to Blumentel.
- 24:46SPEAKER_06: I think he's pretty he's like having played him 16 times this year.
- 24:52SPEAKER_06: Um he's he's he's pretty good at hockey, and I think he'll probably do a bit for them.
- 24:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but I'm I'm just I'm just again, I'm not I'm not bashing uh I think he's a really really good player, but they got him as a striker.
- 25:06SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, he's playing striker with them.
- 25:09SPEAKER_03: Uh they're kind of moving shit around.
- 25:11SPEAKER_03: They're like, okay, we have to kind of mix things up a little bit uh from last year.
- 25:15SPEAKER_03: They lost a couple really experienced players in uh Glenn, uh Glenn Schumann, uh Ru Bovendit, Tim Schwan, uh Kasper van Dijk.
- 25:23SPEAKER_03: So they lost a couple quality players.
- 25:25SPEAKER_03: Um and why are you laughing, Phil?
- 25:29SPEAKER_06: He reminded me of Brendan saying Tim Swan.
- 25:32SPEAKER_06: Oh sorry, that's my fault.
- 25:36SPEAKER_03: Okay, okay.
- 25:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's a Dutch name, it's funny.
- 25:39SPEAKER_03: Okay, yeah, they lost a couple, they got some really quality players.
- 25:45SPEAKER_03: Fuck you.
- 25:45SPEAKER_03: I'm trying to be serious for once.
- 25:47SPEAKER_03: They got some quality players, but they got they they went and moved uh Artie van Doren to central midfield.
- 25:54SPEAKER_03: Uh he still is, in my opinion, the best or top two or top three uh free man in the world.
- 26:00SPEAKER_03: But they moved him to midfield to move things around a little bit.
- 26:03SPEAKER_03: They got uh Mirayas as a striker, and I always thought he played like defensive midfield uh with Spain, in which he's really good, but don't get me wrong, but like he's a striker now.
- 26:14SPEAKER_03: So I'm I'm a bit I I do think he's a good signing again.
- 26:17SPEAKER_03: If you can get him, get him.
- 26:18SPEAKER_03: But I don't know how Blumenaw will they still have a shitload of quality.
- 26:23SPEAKER_03: They got Wallace as like a like a cherry on top, they got they still have Cherry Brinkman, uh Flores Waterboard, uh Juald Crown, you can out of no one name all the motherfuckers.
- 26:32SPEAKER_03: They have like a sick team, but like uh I'm kind of curious how it will all like how the puzzle will be um late.
- 26:42SPEAKER_06: Nice, fair enough.
- 26:44SPEAKER_06: Well, uh if anyone's got any key signings that they think is good, please let us know and we'll happily happily talk about it.
- 26:52SPEAKER_06: Before sorry, I forgot, before we move on from questions from Instagram, I have to um write a wrong.
- 26:59SPEAKER_06: So uh from last week, from the whole European drama final instant, uh it needed to be clarified that um Banders Banders talked to me at the club training session on the Thursday night having listened to this to the um to the pod.
- 27:16SPEAKER_06: He's a he's an avid listener, so shout out Banders.
- 27:19SPEAKER_06: And he actually it's a uh it's uh complete fabrication that he chatted shit back before the stroke and uh that didn't happen.
- 27:31SPEAKER_06: He wanted that on the record.
- 27:33SPEAKER_06: So he also did say he got an apology from um from the carrot farmer, so he he he wanted that on the record.
- 27:44SPEAKER_06: So there we go.
- 27:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah I love Banders, but it's a bit he said she said, isn't it?
- 27:52SPEAKER_03: It's not it's it's on the record, but I'll I'm I'm happy to also go to Florence Waterboer and other guys to ask again.
- 28:00SPEAKER_06: Um I don't I don't I think we maybe just nip it in the bud here, but because then it really is he said she said.
- 28:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's what it exactly what I said.
- 28:10SPEAKER_03: But I'm willing to give uh Banders the benefit of the doubt because I really like him.
- 28:15SPEAKER_03: He's a he's a really nice bloke.
- 28:17SPEAKER_03: That is true.
- 28:19SPEAKER_03: Okay, see what I did there with bloke?
- 28:20SPEAKER_03: I'm really good in English.
- 28:23SPEAKER_06: Questions from Twitter and Instagram.
- 28:26SPEAKER_06: So first one, I don't want to spend too much time on this, but we're lots of people asked us what we thought of the FIH PC corner trial, which is they came out in the summer.
- 28:40SPEAKER_06: Oh, Brendan's already shaking his head.
- 28:42SPEAKER_06: Brendan, can you give us a low down of this?
- 28:45SPEAKER_05: Um I'll be honest with you, I don't really understand it.
- 28:48SPEAKER_05: I just think it's just uh having seen it, it's just a fucking waste of time, isn't it?
- 28:52SPEAKER_05: Really?
- 28:52SPEAKER_05: The whole thing.
- 28:53SPEAKER_05: They've already cancelled it, so it's just fucking stupid.
- 28:57SPEAKER_05: The whole thing was just stupid.
- 28:58SPEAKER_05: Everybody basically said just give us a bit more time.
- 29:01SPEAKER_05: And they went, Well, we can change a load of stuff.
- 29:03SPEAKER_05: It's like, no, no, just give us a bit more time, you thick fucks.
- 29:06SPEAKER_05: Ah I'm sick of it.
- 29:07SPEAKER_05: It's just bullshit, isn't it?
- 29:09SPEAKER_05: Bullshit.
- 29:12SPEAKER_06: Yeah, thanks for thanks for really clarifying the whole thing, Brendan.
- 29:16SPEAKER_06: Thanks.
- 29:17SPEAKER_05: Well, I don't really know the whole ins and outs of it.
- 29:19SPEAKER_05: All I can remember is basically they said they're quite dangerous, so we we might get rid of them.
- 29:24SPEAKER_03: No, no.
- 29:26SPEAKER_03: They said it they're quite dangerous.
- 29:29SPEAKER_03: Let's let's level up, let's let's throw some gasoline on the fire, make it even more dangerous.
- 29:36SPEAKER_03: That's what they did.
- 29:38SPEAKER_06: Yeah, they said it had to go outside the five-yard dash.
- 29:41SPEAKER_06: They said then you could hit the ball as high as you want.
- 29:46SPEAKER_06: They basically we might post it, we probably won't, but they sent out a document saying we want to do this new PC corner trial, we're trying to reduce the danger, but then within the document it said it introduced more danger.
- 29:56SPEAKER_06: Um, everyone kicked off and said this is ridiculous, and then they very quickly went, ah, probably won't do that.
- 30:02SPEAKER_06: Also, all the drag flickers were panicking because their careers were felt like flashing before their eyes.
- 30:10SPEAKER_05: It's just shit, in it, just a waste of time.
- 30:12SPEAKER_06: Yeah, Brennan's Brennan's done uh done a job there for us.
- 30:15SPEAKER_06: Right, I'm gonna I'm gonna keep cracking through this.
- 30:17SPEAKER_06: Neil James asked, Why are the England under 21 boys not at the junior world cup next year?
- 30:22SPEAKER_06: Brennan, do you want to take this one?
- 30:24SPEAKER_05: Um so to qualify, you have to come in the top five or six at your at the 21's Europeans?
- 30:31SPEAKER_05: Is it top five or six?
- 30:32SPEAKER_05: Five.
- 30:33SPEAKER_05: Um, and England boys came sixth, basically, so they didn't qualify.
- 30:37SPEAKER_05: Simple as that.
- 30:39SPEAKER_05: Losers not the best year for them, I'll say that much.
- 30:45SPEAKER_06: Um he asked a few questions.
- 30:52SPEAKER_06: First of all, Brendan, did you consider retiring and moving to the US with Maddie?
- 30:57SPEAKER_05: Uh no.
- 30:58SPEAKER_05: Next question.
- 31:01SPEAKER_05: No, not yet.
- 31:05SPEAKER_06: For everyone's information, our you know, one of our favourites on the pod, Maddie, has uh gone to be an assistant coach over in America for field hockey, and it seems like it's still way more professional than hockey is anywhere else, with the standard not matching that.
- 31:22SPEAKER_06: But what what are you gonna do?
- 31:23SPEAKER_06: Can we can we can we talk about this?
- 31:26SPEAKER_05: Like, seriously, like so I had a chat with Maddie on uh as you do, obviously.
- 31:32SPEAKER_05: We speak quite a bit.
- 31:33SPEAKER_05: Um you speak you speak to her.
- 31:35SPEAKER_05: They travel with more physios for their college team than we do as an international team.
- 31:42SPEAKER_05: They have protein stands around the university, so no one pays for protein, so you can get bars, you can get protein supplements.
- 31:50SPEAKER_05: We have to pay for our own as an international sport, as an international team.
- 31:53SPEAKER_05: I find this bonkers mental.
- 31:56SPEAKER_05: We don't.
- 31:57SPEAKER_05: Yeah, of course you don't, because you've got cash to burn, mate.
- 32:00SPEAKER_05: Yeah, we get it.
- 32:02SPEAKER_05: Well, yeah, you're bitching about uh uh bitching about you, I'm sick of your film.
- 32:06SPEAKER_05: Next question, I'm sick of it.
- 32:08SPEAKER_05: Next question.
- 32:09SPEAKER_05: Shut up next question.
- 32:11SPEAKER_06: Um he also asked, right, so if there's too much money going into the English Premier League, is uh bad for the overall quality?
- 32:20SPEAKER_02: No, more money.
- 32:22SPEAKER_02: We need more money in the league.
- 32:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but I'm so I'm sorry, but what I I don't I don't know who's what kind of question is this.
- 32:29SPEAKER_05: I think I think what he's trying to say is basically if there's certain certain teams that have the money and they're putting more money in, does it create an imbalance in the league?
- 32:37SPEAKER_05: Is basically what he's referring to.
- 32:38SPEAKER_03: No, of course he's saying is it bad to put more money in the league?
- 32:43SPEAKER_03: That's what he's asking.
- 32:44SPEAKER_03: If he wants to know if it's imbalanced, then I didn't hear Phil say imbalance or anything, Brendan.
- 32:50SPEAKER_03: That's what you're making up.
- 32:52SPEAKER_03: More money that's because you Phil plays for one of the teams that has a load of money.
- 32:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but yeah, otherwise Phil is really expensive, Brendan.
- 33:01SPEAKER_03: Otherwise, you cannot get Phil.
- 33:03SPEAKER_03: It's Gareth Bale at his top form.
- 33:06SPEAKER_06: I've got nursery to pay for.
- 33:09SPEAKER_05: But what I'm not saying is that you're wasting the money, I'm saying you're putting it, I'm not saying you're not putting it to good use.
- 33:14SPEAKER_05: What I'm saying.
- 33:15SPEAKER_06: I'm happy.
- 33:16SPEAKER_06: I'm happy with Gareth Bale.
- 33:17SPEAKER_06: It's fine, it's all good.
- 33:19SPEAKER_06: Um what what I would say is that of course there's an imbalance, but would that not be the same for Man City in the football Premier League?
- 33:26SPEAKER_06: Like you need money and then it needs to build, and then other clubs need to go, shit, we need to get some money so that we can compete with the top teams, otherwise, we just stay amateur.
- 33:35SPEAKER_06: I don't know uh Nora, I don't really want to stay amateur.
- 33:37SPEAKER_06: I don't think the sport I think we want to increase the sport's visibility, and I think money is one way to do it.
- 33:42SPEAKER_06: He also asked, how could we get Yupe to come to England?
- 33:46SPEAKER_06: What money?
- 33:49SPEAKER_03: Okay, we'll draw a line on the stand there.
- 33:52SPEAKER_03: Nora, a shit, shit load of money.
- 33:55SPEAKER_03: Everything's Brazil in this world, even I am.
- 33:59SPEAKER_06: I think the next question might be a quite quick one as well.
- 34:02SPEAKER_06: Merrill asked, Is hockey fives a real sport?
- 34:05SPEAKER_06: No, no next David B also asked, Does hockey fives have good commercial value?
- 34:13SPEAKER_06: No, next.
- 34:20SPEAKER_06: Gloria PP, Pie Pie asked, can you say a fun fact about you or your teammate or a teammate?
- 34:29SPEAKER_06: So can I put you on the spot?
- 34:31SPEAKER_06: Can you give a fun fact about either yourself or a teammate of yours that we wouldn't know?
- 34:38SPEAKER_05: Brendan, tell them about a towel if you're going off your room.
- 34:41SPEAKER_05: No, everybody knows about the towel.
- 34:43SPEAKER_05: Um fun fact.
- 34:46SPEAKER_05: Uh Phil Roper can play the piano.
- 34:49SPEAKER_05: There's a fun fact.
- 34:51SPEAKER_05: Oh, really?
- 34:53SPEAKER_05: That's true.
- 34:54SPEAKER_05: Phil can play the piano.
- 34:55SPEAKER_05: There you go.
- 34:56SPEAKER_05: Oh fun fact.
- 34:58SPEAKER_05: Lighthearted fun fact, because I know something bad's coming my way if Phil says anything.
- 35:02SPEAKER_00: Hey you, Phil?
- 35:03SPEAKER_00: Do you have a fun fact about a teammate of yours?
- 35:07SPEAKER_06: I've got many fun facts about Brendan, but I feel like I bash him enough.
- 35:12SPEAKER_06: So I'll maybe uh pass on that one.
- 35:15SPEAKER_06: I'll come up with another one.
- 35:17SPEAKER_05: Oh, we have another fun fact.
- 35:20SPEAKER_05: We have two three members of the GB men's hockey side have been part of football academies, haven't they?
- 35:27SPEAKER_05: There's one for you.
- 35:29SPEAKER_05: Go on uh David Ames, Liam Ansel, and Jacob Draper.
- 35:36SPEAKER_05: There you go.
- 35:37SPEAKER_05: There's another bit of information for you.
- 35:40SPEAKER_05: Fun facts.
- 35:41SPEAKER_06: You have you got any fun facts?
- 35:44SPEAKER_03: Um well I don't know if they're fun, but I have like facts.
- 35:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I don't know Phil.
- 35:54SPEAKER_03: I wish I wish I've read this question before because then I could come up with like uh like a fun fact.
- 36:01SPEAKER_03: Like what is fun?
- 36:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I don't I don't know.
- 36:06SPEAKER_05: I can say you're having a malfunction.
- 36:08SPEAKER_05: What is going on?
- 36:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I can say Geis Reme's his age, but that's not really fun, is it?
- 36:14SPEAKER_03: Like it's not fun.
- 36:16SPEAKER_03: No, so I'm not saying it.
- 36:18SPEAKER_03: What is a fun fact?
- 36:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 36:20SPEAKER_03: Shall I come back to you?
- 36:21SPEAKER_03: Shall we come back?
- 36:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I'll think I'll think about a fun fact.
- 36:24SPEAKER_03: I do want to get back on uh because we were really quick with the Hockey 5 thing.
- 36:29SPEAKER_03: Um I do think, like honestly, I think if it it it does have a bit of potential.
- 36:37SPEAKER_03: I know I I I yeah, I'm I'm a I'm not the biggest fan of Hockey 5, and I know Brendan, you're yeah, Brendan, it does have a bit of potential.
- 36:45SPEAKER_03: I think it is pretty fun to watch.
- 36:48SPEAKER_03: It's fucking dangerous as shit, but it is pretty fun to watch sometimes.
- 36:51SPEAKER_03: Have you watched Azerbaijan versus uh Romania last last World Cup?
- 36:56SPEAKER_03: It was absolute pleasure to watch.
- 37:01SPEAKER_03: I do actually know what you mean because I'm buying time to think of a fun fact.
- 37:08SPEAKER_06: Well, on the hockey fives, basically, I do know what David B is coming up with because if you think about it, you can make the pitch smaller, you can make the stadium seem bigger, you actually do have a product where there is pretty much constant action.
- 37:23SPEAKER_06: You could put more and more like events around it because it's not a huge like hockey pitch.
- 37:29SPEAKER_06: Brendan, you are you both already?
- 37:31SPEAKER_06: Am I allowed to talk, or are you just gonna keep your hand up every time I talk?
- 37:34SPEAKER_05: I'm putting my hand up, I'm ready to answer, but carry on.
- 37:37SPEAKER_06: No, go on, your hand's up.
- 37:38SPEAKER_06: No, no, I'm waiting, I'm waiting for you to finish.
- 37:40SPEAKER_06: I'm waiting for you to finish.
- 37:41SPEAKER_06: As you said, there's an element of danger in it because you can shoot from the halfway line, which again it adds a bit of fun to it.
- 37:49SPEAKER_06: I actually don't know the rules, but I do know what they're getting at because they want to get to this point where, for anyone's information, the Olympic Games hates hockey because basically they have to hand out 16 gold medals, and I think uh the FIH could go to them and say, Hey, you only have to hand out eight if if that is the case.
- 38:08SPEAKER_06: So uh that is probably the commercial value that they're talking about.
- 38:12SPEAKER_05: My like yeah, I I kind of do get it, but in my head, and I don't want to sound like Tommy Alexander, the world's biggest hockey badger on Twitter, but surely indoor is exactly the same principle as that.
- 38:29SPEAKER_05: It offers every everything that Hockey 5s does, apart from it's probably a little bit less dangerous.
- 38:37SPEAKER_03: That's a pretty fair assumption, man.
- 38:39SPEAKER_03: That's the that's the most actual the most factual thing you've said all five seasons.
- 38:47SPEAKER_05: It's not even my argument.
- 38:50SPEAKER_05: There you go.
- 38:51SPEAKER_06: We'll keep we'll keep asking a couple of questions.
- 38:54SPEAKER_03: I have a fun fact.
- 38:55SPEAKER_03: I give a lot of fun.
- 38:58SPEAKER_03: I think I don't know if a lot of people know, but there is actually I don't know exactly there's like five couples between uh the Dutch men and women.
- 39:11SPEAKER_03: That's a pretty good fun fact, isn't it?
- 39:13SPEAKER_03: That is a good fun fact.
- 39:22SPEAKER_03: Luna Fokker and Justin Block and I'm forgetting one, or am I?
- 39:29SPEAKER_03: And I think that's it.
- 39:33SPEAKER_03: Hey, how many how many is there with you?
- 39:36SPEAKER_03: Um no, Many's not in anymore.
- 39:40SPEAKER_06: Yeah, one Amesy and Giselle.
- 39:45SPEAKER_03: Isn't uh Ansel with uh Tolman two random with Many?
- 39:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah we go Yeah she's not in anymore, you just said every once in a while.
- 40:00SPEAKER_05: Yeah, speak to her once or twice.
- 40:03SPEAKER_06: Next question.
- 40:05SPEAKER_06: This again, I think it will be a quick one.
- 40:07SPEAKER_06: Twelve Bevo asks, are gingers more aggressive than other people?
- 40:14SPEAKER_03: It's a really um yeah, it's a really like uh weird question.
- 40:21SPEAKER_03: Do polar bears only live on ice?
- 40:26SPEAKER_03: But a random question, 12 Bevo.
- 40:31SPEAKER_03: What a fucking stupid question, Bevo.
- 40:34SPEAKER_04: Well afterwards.
- 40:35SPEAKER_04: You know what?
- 40:36SPEAKER_03: This kind of brings me No, fuck you, Phil, shut the fuck up.
- 40:39SPEAKER_03: This kind of brings me to a point.
- 40:40SPEAKER_03: I actually wanted to save it for shit or hit, but I'm gonna say it now.
- 40:44SPEAKER_03: Last Sunday or Friday, Friday, we were playing Pinocchio.
- 40:48SPEAKER_03: I I subbed out, I got subbed out like three minutes before the end.
- 40:53SPEAKER_03: I was on the bench, then uh Atiu van Doren walked past and he said he said like I said like I was stood next to like our dugout.
- 41:01SPEAKER_03: So he said, uh hey you are you doing whatever, whatever.
- 41:04SPEAKER_03: Then uh Zack Wallace.
- 41:07SPEAKER_03: Don't get me wrong, I I always like the guy, probably still do, because I'm a little bitch myself as well.
- 41:13SPEAKER_03: He came up to me and he said, Uh uh are you playing left wing now?
- 41:16SPEAKER_03: I'm like, What?
- 41:18SPEAKER_03: I said that I thought he was making jokes.
- 41:20SPEAKER_03: I said, No, no, no, I can only play it on the right hand side, you remember?
- 41:23SPEAKER_03: Something like that.
- 41:24SPEAKER_03: He said, No, no, are you subbing in now?
- 41:26SPEAKER_03: Like, we got this new guy, Tys Bumps, who's like really really ginger.
- 41:30SPEAKER_00: Um, and he yeah, yeah, but like if you're not like really good friends or anything, are you allowed to fucking do this?
- 41:39SPEAKER_00: Like, I was like, I was a bit baffled by it.
- 41:42SPEAKER_00: I was like, mate, um, I don't fucking know you that well.
- 41:46SPEAKER_03: Like if if I go up to like this random guy, if I go up to to uh Goodfield and I go, hey mate, you're fucking ugly.
- 41:55SPEAKER_03: Then he probably looks at me like who the fuck are you to tell me this?
- 41:59SPEAKER_03: Right?
- 41:59SPEAKER_03: If I call Brendan fucking ugly, it's funny, but if fucking Zach Wallace did it, I don't fucking know the guy that well.
- 42:06SPEAKER_06: I think I think first of all, that's really funny.
- 42:11SPEAKER_03: Excellent joke by him, excellent joke.
- 42:14SPEAKER_03: But we're we're not at that level yet.
- 42:16SPEAKER_03: Come on.
- 42:17SPEAKER_06: I think low-key Zach is a is an I I've just got a feeling he's an avid listener of the pod.
- 42:22SPEAKER_06: He'd never admit it, but Zach, I know you're fucking listening, and he feels like he knows you.
- 42:27SPEAKER_06: So I mean, kudos to him.
- 42:29SPEAKER_06: Well done.
- 42:30SPEAKER_06: I mean, anyone else who is walking next to you and wants to insult him, please do it.
- 42:33SPEAKER_06: It'll make all of us here at last.
- 42:35SPEAKER_03: Don't get me wrong, I'll give him credit for the joke because I was a bit I'm I'm um I know it's a good one if I'm a bit uh I'm a I get it like a little bit of a malfunction in my head, and I I got that.
- 42:46SPEAKER_03: I was a bit like what the fuck actually happened, and it took me a while to notice it, and then you really know it's a good joke.
- 42:52SPEAKER_03: It had like the momentum, the moment of surprise and everything in it.
- 42:55SPEAKER_03: But I was just I was not ready for it, and especially not from him, because I haven't known it well.
- 43:00SPEAKER_03: But since uh since we're on that level, I'll tell the little midget next time that he's fucking short of shit as well.
- 43:08SPEAKER_05: So, in answer to 12 Bevo's question, yes, gingers are aggressive.
- 43:15SPEAKER_06: Right, one more stupid question, then we'll finish for the serious one.
- 43:19SPEAKER_06: Uh Deutge asked, How many followers did you gain after your block, Brendan, on Instagram?
- 43:27SPEAKER_05: Um I don't actually know, but I think it was like 150, roughly.
- 43:33SPEAKER_05: Roughly.
- 43:34SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 43:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, I go bullshit.
- 43:38SPEAKER_06: No, I'm dead serious.
- 43:40SPEAKER_06: And also, I'm disappointed that you counted.
- 43:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 43:44SPEAKER_00: He's like I have no idea, but no, no, he was like, yeah, oh, he was first like, oh I don't know, and second after roughly, roughly let's have a look.
- 43:55SPEAKER_03: You know it's one hundred and forty eight, mate.
- 44:00SPEAKER_03: You have a white board next to you, a crunchy little white towel in the corner of your room, and you keep oh, there's another one.
- 44:06SPEAKER_00: There's another one.
- 44:08SPEAKER_06: Brendan, I'd prefer if you didn't look it up.
- 44:10SPEAKER_06: Um, I'm gonna look it up just to piss you off.
- 44:12SPEAKER_06: Jess Kimberly asks a serious question, it's definitely dedicated to you.
- 44:16SPEAKER_06: How to get through injuries and how you physically went through it.
- 44:21SPEAKER_05: I mean, uh that's tough.
- 44:24SPEAKER_05: Um I don't I don't what say again?
- 44:30SPEAKER_05: I'll go I'm I'm malfunctioned that did a U.
- 44:34SPEAKER_06: If you guess um generally when we're supported through GB, when you get injured, you have uh constant contact with doctors, physios, S and C coaches, and also you now have coach uh contact with psychologists and lifestyle advisors who are making sure you're in a good spot and everything possible to make sure that your rehab is is is um as good as can be.
- 44:58SPEAKER_06: The but the toughest bit is obviously your mindset, you have to look after yourself, you have to try and grind every day for as long as you possibly can to make sure that you're back stronger.
- 45:09SPEAKER_06: Uh I think that's what Brendan would have likely said.
- 45:12SPEAKER_06: He's still looking up followers.
- 45:14SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 45:16SPEAKER_06: We're gonna start something new.
- 45:17SPEAKER_06: The first round ever of Start Bench Cell.
- 45:23SPEAKER_06: And this is where we choose uh three different players, and then we have a discussion whether we'd start we'd all choose whether we start bench or sell them.
- 45:31SPEAKER_06: Pretty pretty simple.
- 45:32SPEAKER_06: Um this week we're gonna go super simple.
- 45:36SPEAKER_06: So we'll start with you.
- 45:38SPEAKER_06: Um the question is is uh youpe de mole, Brendan Creed, Phil Roper, start bench sell.
- 45:46SPEAKER_03: Start Yuk de Mol, bench Phil Roper, sell Brendan Creed.
- 45:52SPEAKER_03: Justify Justify, it's it speaks for itself.
- 45:56SPEAKER_03: One one of the three won European gold, two of the others didn't.
- 46:03SPEAKER_03: It's so simple.
- 46:04SPEAKER_03: You you gave me you gave me the cross, I only had to put my head on it.
- 46:15SPEAKER_03: No, to be fair I'd bench Brendan and sell you, Phil.
- 46:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's because Brendan had Brendan had that amazing blog to which he got roughly 150 followers more, and uh you you had a sore back during Europeans, and I can only judge from you're as good as your last game.
- 46:34SPEAKER_03: So I'm gonna I'm gonna go that route.
- 46:37SPEAKER_03: And I'm still pissed off you left to run your road.
- 46:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah, still Phil.
- 46:42SPEAKER_06: Brendan.
- 46:43SPEAKER_06: Brendan, just make sure you don't do a standard you and sell yourself, okay?
- 46:48SPEAKER_05: Alright.
- 46:50SPEAKER_05: Uh I would start myself bench you, and I would sell Phil.
- 46:58SPEAKER_03: Okay, but now you went a bit too much on the overboard.
- 47:02SPEAKER_03: Let me justify.
- 47:03SPEAKER_05: Let me justify.
- 47:06SPEAKER_05: Uh I'd keep you because I think he's a fantastic variation for me.
- 47:12SPEAKER_05: Obviously, start myself, and I'd sell Phil to create enough cap space to get more signings in because he cost the most money.
- 47:18SPEAKER_05: So I'm I'm here to make money.
- 47:19SPEAKER_05: I'm I'm just I'm one of those minnows in the league that's just here for the cash.
- 47:24SPEAKER_05: Brighton, if you would.
- 47:26SPEAKER_04: That's fair.
- 47:28SPEAKER_05: Phil.
- 47:29SPEAKER_06: Oh, it's tough.
- 47:31SPEAKER_06: I think I think I'm absolutely certain I'm gonna make myself an impact substitute.
- 47:36SPEAKER_06: I'm getting to that age, I just need to come in you know, 55th minute out of it spice.
- 47:44SPEAKER_06: It's just it's just which of the lanky men I want, and that is a fucking tough question.
- 47:50SPEAKER_06: Because you're both really, really annoying.
- 47:52SPEAKER_06: Um who are you gonna make more money off?
- 47:54SPEAKER_05: That's what you've got to think.
- 47:56SPEAKER_06: Yeah, Brent.
- 47:59SPEAKER_03: Not making any money off me, get me on the pitch, son.
- 48:02SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna answer this for you.
- 48:04SPEAKER_03: If you if you bench yourself, there's not enough money for me, so pick Brendan.
- 48:11SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I'm I'm gonna pick Brennan because I like Brett, like he's dead wood, like he's 30, he's had every book.
- 48:20SPEAKER_05: A long injury history.
- 48:22SPEAKER_05: Um no one's picking me up in free agency.
- 48:24SPEAKER_05: Nobody wants me.
- 48:24SPEAKER_05: Nobody wants me in the waivers.
- 48:26SPEAKER_00: And I reckon I could just to clear just to clear this up.
- 48:29SPEAKER_03: Just to clear this up, Phil left me a year and a half ago or a year ago.
- 48:35SPEAKER_03: He got the chance to actually put me back to get me back, and he decided to sell me again.
- 48:40SPEAKER_03: What an absolute twat.
- 48:43SPEAKER_06: Yeah, but I reckon I could I could hoodwink people into thinking that you're buyable.
- 48:48SPEAKER_03: Oh, that's that's low.
- 48:51SPEAKER_03: That's low.
- 48:52SPEAKER_06: Convince people he's worth it.
- 48:55SPEAKER_06: Honestly, I'll show him clips.
- 48:57SPEAKER_06: Look at him run.
- 48:58SPEAKER_06: Wow, look at that, he's still going.
- 49:00SPEAKER_06: He's on the right.
- 49:01SPEAKER_06: Go on.
- 49:06SPEAKER_06: He's actually deeply hurt.
- 49:07SPEAKER_06: Come on, you it's all love.
- 49:09SPEAKER_06: I know, right.
- 49:11SPEAKER_06: Um, do either of you have another uh start bench sell, or should we just do one a week?
- 49:16SPEAKER_06: Do one a week.
- 49:17SPEAKER_06: Do one a week.
- 49:17SPEAKER_06: Keep it short.
- 49:18SPEAKER_06: That's what she said.
- 49:21SPEAKER_06: Right, shit or hit.
- 49:23SPEAKER_06: So we had a couple of people uh write in for shit or hits, or they asked questions, but they came across as shit or hits, so I'll just go with it.
- 49:30SPEAKER_06: Neil James again um asked the question like initials on players' kit or numbers, and he I don't really yeah, he he was talking about initials on kit being uh budget, he didn't like it.
- 49:45SPEAKER_06: Initials, yeah, so uh like PR would be on my kit.
- 49:50SPEAKER_03: Like your training kit or like your game kit?
- 49:53SPEAKER_03: Training specify can't be matched.
- 49:56SPEAKER_03: No, match kit can't, but like I think it's cool on uh game on like training kit.
- 50:01SPEAKER_03: I think that's a hit.
- 50:03SPEAKER_03: Looks cool, right?
- 50:04SPEAKER_03: If you have like uh if if you have like PR50, I think that's cool.
- 50:09SPEAKER_06: I think it's more of a like a coaching thing, like a staff thing.
- 50:12SPEAKER_06: I always think that they should have their initials, but then we should just have our number.
- 50:16SPEAKER_05: Numbers, yeah.
- 50:17SPEAKER_05: I yeah, I think on certain pieces of kit it looks quite cool, and on certain pieces it looks budget as hell.
- 50:23SPEAKER_05: You know what looks budget as hell?
- 50:25SPEAKER_05: Oh, here we go.
- 50:26SPEAKER_01: Creedy on your stick.
- 50:28SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah, we know.
- 50:30SPEAKER_05: Yeah, cool.
- 50:31SPEAKER_05: Next one.
- 50:32SPEAKER_06: Creedy B you, just to clarify.
- 50:35SPEAKER_05: Yeah, keep it going, keep the same joke coming, lads.
- 50:37SPEAKER_05: Come on, all day.
- 50:38SPEAKER_05: Give it me.
- 50:40SPEAKER_05: Class, yeah, class.
- 50:42SPEAKER_05: Great shout.
- 50:42SPEAKER_05: What did you mean?
- 50:43SPEAKER_05: What did you mean by B you?
- 50:45SPEAKER_05: Uh I basically wanted to be like just be yourself, but it came it came out really badly.
- 50:56SPEAKER_06: Oh, I could see me and you really working to keep a straight place then, and we both failed so badly.
- 51:02SPEAKER_06: You didn't even try.
- 51:03SPEAKER_03: I really did.
- 51:05SPEAKER_03: This was 100% like an emotional decision.
- 51:10SPEAKER_03: This was a thousand percent like a decision you made.
- 51:13SPEAKER_03: Hey, uh, someone asked, hey Brendan, you can now put something on your sticker.
- 51:17SPEAKER_00: You thought, oh, maybe I put on pretty value.
- 51:21SPEAKER_00: Don't listen to my basic thinking.
- 51:23SPEAKER_05: Don't listen to what you or Phil are saying, just be yourself.
- 51:26SPEAKER_05: My basic thinking was I want to be a bit different, and then looking back at it, it just wasn't the way to be different.
- 51:33SPEAKER_03: Um Brenn, take it from someone who knows it very well.
- 51:37SPEAKER_03: You don't have to try to be different, mate.
- 51:42SPEAKER_03: I don't know if that's a compliment or not.
- 51:44SPEAKER_03: We don't have to I'm I'm talking for you and me.
- 51:46SPEAKER_03: We don't have to try, mate.
- 51:47SPEAKER_03: Just be yourself, it's more than enough.
- 51:50SPEAKER_06: What would you have on your stick, you if you had to have a catchphrase?
- 51:55SPEAKER_03: Oh, a catchphrase biscuits and teas.
- 52:01SPEAKER_03: 23.
- 52:05SPEAKER_06: I'm worried how much you're loving.
- 52:10SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 52:11SPEAKER_06: Jordan Smith said uh the next show hit, um, shouting two on one or four on three in a game, he thinks it's really village.
- 52:20SPEAKER_06: So, like, I guess it's like someone in defense and they've seen someone else on the ball and be like, two on one, you've got a two-on-one.
- 52:28SPEAKER_06: And I actually completely agree with him.
- 52:30SPEAKER_06: It's terrible, it's a shit.
- 52:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's a shit.
- 52:34SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I it's a shit, and I do it.
- 52:36SPEAKER_05: That's what's worse.
- 52:39SPEAKER_05: I've thought about it now, and I definitely have done this not that too long ago either.
- 52:44SPEAKER_05: Oh, it's so budget thinking about it.
- 52:46SPEAKER_05: It's so budget.
- 52:47SPEAKER_06: If if it feels really similar to like the whole like being on the ball and directing traffic, I think that's that's still like really up there.
- 52:55SPEAKER_06: That's the worst.
- 52:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 52:56SPEAKER_03: No, I still I still think that's like uh it makes you feel like a big boy.
- 53:01SPEAKER_06: Yes, because you do it, yeah.
- 53:03SPEAKER_03: Directing traffic.
- 53:05SPEAKER_03: Hey, go go on, sorry.
- 53:10SPEAKER_06: What's the what's the best move about doing that is like if you get someone to run ahead and then you don't pass them the ball.
- 53:18SPEAKER_05: It's just too much power.
- 53:19SPEAKER_05: That's the problem, it's too much power.
- 53:22SPEAKER_03: I I always I also always like the the like the when you want to like when the when a team is moving back to half court and you have to take the ball in the back, Brendan.
- 53:31SPEAKER_03: You know this, and you you take like an excessive amount of time to just like walk up the field.
- 53:37SPEAKER_03: Don't pass it to anyone, just like really one-handed, like slowly walk it up, and and then it's really annoying when someone then yells, uh, ah ball pace, more ball table, ball, whatever.
- 53:48SPEAKER_03: No, just let me have my moment here.
- 53:50SPEAKER_03: This is my time to shine.
- 53:51SPEAKER_03: I'm just gonna walk it up really slow.
- 53:53SPEAKER_03: Probably say a thing or two, hey guys, we need more.
- 53:56SPEAKER_03: This is just let me have my moment.
- 53:59SPEAKER_06: I didn't I I didn't play with you for very long, but I think I shall yell that at you at least 15 times.
- 54:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I actually gave Phil uh like a little stance once in the game.
- 54:11SPEAKER_03: He was like he was yeah, or what do you say, like a little uh little um uh telling off?
- 54:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you were you were being a bitch in the field, and I I I like I yelled at you.
- 54:22SPEAKER_03: I still remember when, but like it was in the game at the Ray Road, you were like being a bit bitch, and I said, Phil, shut the fuck up and just play or something.
- 54:29SPEAKER_03: And then you look back, you get I got like a semi-doper roper death stare, and you didn't say anything back because I felt like a real I felt like Billy Big Balls back then.
- 54:37SPEAKER_03: Oh I was like oh told him off.
- 54:39SPEAKER_06: I actually remember that really well.
- 54:40SPEAKER_06: That was good times.
- 54:41SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I still miss it.
- 54:46SPEAKER_06: Um my sister got in touch and said, People who don't grip their sticks.
- 54:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I want like for me it's a it's a complete shit, uh, but it's always the same guys.
- 55:01SPEAKER_03: Always the guys with two gloves, or like the guys whose knees are always open, or the guys who can hit a ball really, really hard.
- 55:09SPEAKER_06: Or they wear or they wear like constant knee protection.
- 55:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 55:14SPEAKER_03: It's always the same guys.
- 55:16SPEAKER_03: It's always the same guys who don't grip their stick, or like the guys who put on a black a black grip on it, you know?
- 55:23SPEAKER_03: It's always the same with like the really big, like the the the the monster grips.
- 55:27SPEAKER_03: It's always the same.
- 55:29SPEAKER_03: Guys without good technique and who just run a lot.
- 55:33SPEAKER_06: Also, what about the the people who don't grip who only re-grip their sticks every two and a half years?
- 55:39SPEAKER_06: And so it's like wearing away, it's like it's yeah, it's it's like felt falling down, so you can see the black in between the white.
- 55:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I I I think that I I could never do it, but I think it's actually pretty cool.
- 55:54SPEAKER_03: It's it looks like you don't care.
- 55:56SPEAKER_03: I like that.
- 55:57SPEAKER_03: I don't I don't give a shit about my grip.
- 55:58SPEAKER_03: Because Max Kuipers he traps every ball, he's really good at hockey, and he he has this like like it looks like he has a stick that's like 20 years old.
- 56:06SPEAKER_03: I think that's that actually looks pretty cool.
- 56:10SPEAKER_06: He also threatens to retire every session, which I kinda like.
- 56:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah, true.
- 56:14SPEAKER_03: He's he's he said he'd he'd retire the next season for five years in a row.
- 56:18SPEAKER_03: So until he actually does, and I'll cry.
- 56:22SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 56:22SPEAKER_06: You two have you got any shit or hits?
- 56:25SPEAKER_03: Non for me.
- 56:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I had the one about uh Wallace making friends or like making a joke about someone where you're not as well knowing.
- 56:35SPEAKER_03: Which apparently is a hit because everyone does it from now on, but yeah.
- 56:41SPEAKER_06: So so this this um has been episode two.
- 56:44SPEAKER_06: Like I I feel like we as normal have like we did a pretty serious episode last week, and lots of people came back and said, Wow, it was a really good episode.
- 56:52SPEAKER_06: Like, thanks for being so serious and talking so candidly.
- 56:55SPEAKER_06: And then what we've done this week is just to please our audiences, talk utter shit, and offer little to no information about hockey.
