- 0:01SPEAKER_01: Welcome to Five Good Minutes.
- 0:03SPEAKER_01: You're listening to today's inspirational message on the book of Genesis with Brady Randall.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Well, today we come to the end of chapter 37, and we conclude with just one verse, but I think it's a profoundly important and powerful verse in verse 36.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: Meanwhile, the Midianites sold Joseph in Egypt to Potiphar, one of Pharaoh's officials, the captain of the guard.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: I'm so grateful for the word meanwhile.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: While everything else is chaotic and going out of control, God still has a plan.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: God is on the throne.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: God is still moving and working all things together for good to those who love him and have been called according to his purpose.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: While it looks like all is lost, when Jacob's favorite son looks to be a goner, when grief has hit an all-time high, when it looks like there's nowhere to turn, God is still doing something.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: In fact, it's often in those moments when God is up to his most important work.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: I wonder if that's been true in your life.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: Meanwhile, the Midianites were a group of nomadic merchant traders.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: They traveled in caravans carrying spices, balm, and myrrh to Egypt, as we read earlier.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: And so they're doing what they always do.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: They pick up Joseph and they sell him to Potiphar.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: Now, Potiphar was an officer of Pharaoh who played an important position in Egypt in the royal court, and we're told that he is captain of the guard.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: And this is just one sentence, but it's an extremely important one.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: Because I think that this is the start of God working to get Joseph to a prominent position in Egypt, as we'll see over the next coming weeks.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: Things that just look like an ordinary day in the life of some traveling merchants.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: They just happened to walk by at just the right time.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: And in their shrewd dealings, they sold Joseph to Potiphar, who had a high up position that God will later use.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: Now, I mean, just imagine this from Joseph's perspective.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: He's been disowned by his brothers.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: His brothers hated him.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: He's caused envy, jealousy, strife, thrown into a pit, left for dead.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: His body is treated, and he's traded positions and he has exchanged hands from the Midianites to Potiphar.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: He has no idea what's going to happen and what he'll be forced to do.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: But even if he does survive this next season of life, he has no idea what's on the other end.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: It looks like all hope is lost.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: But meanwhile, God was and God is still up to something.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: Friends, I want to encourage you today that wherever you are in your walk of life, maybe you've lost your way and your sense that God is with you and for you at all.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: And when you look at your life circumstances, you wonder how God could be doing anything with that.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: Or you're filled with regret and wonder, why would God want anything to do with someone like me?
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: Or maybe you've been following God and you wake up wondering today, is it still worth it?
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: The current difficulty and circumstances of your life make you question that very thing.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: Why would God do that?
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: Why would God allow that?
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: But I want you to be reminded today that God is always up to something, and when it looks like all hope is lost, there is God.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: And sometimes in life God permits what he hates in order to accomplish what he loves.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: For it was on Good Friday, some two thousand years ago, that it looked like all hope was lost.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: That Jesus, who was the disciples' leader, he was crucified, dead, and he was buried in the tomb.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: The disciples are beside themselves, the women and Mary among them, Mary the mother of Jesus, is weeping.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: It looked like all hope was lost.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: And then silence.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: And if all we had was the end of Genesis 37, and if all we had was good Friday and that was it, an empty tomb, then this life would be senseless.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: But little did the disciples know, and much do we now know that it was only Friday and that Sunday was coming.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: God used what was the very worst day in human history to turn it into the best day in human history.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: Because what it cost his father, the life of his own son, he used to bring to faith, to bring into eternity all would play who would place their trust in him.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: God was surely up to something.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: And today God is working in the background, doing a million things that you and I cannot yet see.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: So keep holding on, keep your eye on the prize, for it is Jesus who's holding on to you.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: And when you cannot see God's hand, you can trust his heart.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: For if he who did not spare his own son, but graciously gave us up for him all, will he not also graciously give us all things?
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: Thanks for joining us here today.
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: There's a lot of great content to explore on Orchard Hill Plus and on the Orchard Hill main feed from the weekend.
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: Have a great day.
