- 0:00To my father and your father. The time had come for Christ to ascend
- 0:05to his father's throne as a divine conqueror. He was about to return with
- 0:09the trophies of victory to the heavenly courts. Before his death, he had
- 0:13declared to his father, I have finished the work which thou gavest me to
- 0:16do John seventeen four. After his resurrection, he tyried on earth for a
- 0:22season that his disciples might become familiar with him in his risen and glorified body.
- 0:27Now he was ready for the leave taking. He had authenticated the fact
- 0:30that he was a living savior. His disciples need no longer associate him with
- 0:35the tomb. They could think of him as glorified before the heavenly universe.
- 0:40As the place of his ascension, Jesus chose a spot so often hallowed by
- 0:44his presence while he dwelt among men, not Mount Zion, the place of
- 0:48David's city, not Mount Mariah, the temple site was to be thus honored.
- 0:53There Christ had been mocked and rejected. There, the waves of mercy,
- 0:57still returning in a stronger tide of love, had been beaten back by
- 1:00hearts as hard as rock. Thence Jesus, weary and heart burdened, had
- 1:06gone forth to find rest in the Mount of Olives. The Holy Chicaina,
- 1:10in departing from the First Temple, had stood upon the eastern mountain, as
- 1:14if loathed to forsake the Chosen City. So Christ stood upon Olivet with yearning
- 1:19heart, overlooking Jerusalem. The groves and glens of the mountain had been consecrated
- 1:25by his prayers and tears. Its deeps had echoed the triumphant shouts of the
- 1:29multitude that proclaimed him king. On its sloping descent, he had found a
- 1:33home with Lazarus at Bethany, in the garden of Gassimone. At its foot
- 1:38he had prayed and agonized alone. From this mountain he was to ascend to
- 1:42Heaven. Upon its summit his feet will rest. When he shall come again,
- 1:48not as a man of sorrows, but as a glorious and triumphant king.
- 1:53He will stand upon Olivet, while Hebrew hallelujahs mingled with gentile hosannahs,
- 1:57and the voices of the Redeemed, as a mighty host shall swell the acclamation,
- 2:02crown him Lord of all. Now with the eleven Disciples Jesus made his
- 2:07way toward the mountain. As they passed through the gate of Jerusalem, many
- 2:12wondering eyes looked upon the little company, led by one whom, a few
- 2:15weeks before the rulers had condemned and crucified. The disciples knew not that this
- 2:21was to be their last interview with their master. Jesus spent the time in
- 2:23conversation with them, repeating his former instruction. As they approached Cassimone, he
- 2:30paused that they might call to mind the lessons he had given them on the
- 2:34night of his great agony. Again he looked upon the vine by which he
- 2:38had then represented the union of his church with himself and his father. Again
- 2:42he repeated the truce he had then unfolded. All around him were reminders of
- 2:46his unrequited love. Even the disciples, who were so dear to his heart,
- 2:51had, in the hour of this humiliation, reproached and forsaken him.
- 2:55Christ had sojourned in the world for thirty three years, he had du jured
- 3:00its scorn, insult, and mockery. He had been rejected and crucified.
- 3:05Now, when about to ascend to his throne of glory. As he reviews
- 3:08the ingratitude of the people he came to save. Will he not withdraw from
- 3:13them his sympathy and love. Will not his affections be centered upon that realm
- 3:16where he is appreciated, and where sinless angels wait to do his bidding.
- 3:22No, his promise to those loved ones whom he leaves on earth is I
- 3:25am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Matthew twenty
- 3:30eight twenty. Upon reaching the Mount of Olives, Jesus led the way across
- 3:35the summit to the vicinity of Bethany. Here he paused, and the disciples
- 3:39gathered about him. Beams of light seemed to radiate from his countenance. As
- 3:44he looked lovingly upon them. He upbraided them, not for their faults and
- 3:47failures. Words of the deepest tenderness were the last that fell upon their ears
- 3:53from the lips of their Lord. With hands outstretched and blessing, and as
- 3:58if in assurance of his protective care, he slowly ascended from among them,
- 4:02drawn heavenward by a power stronger than any earthly attraction. As he passed upward,
- 4:09the awe stricken disciples looked with straining eyes for the last glimpse of their
- 4:14ascending Lord. A cloud of glory hid him from their sight, and the
- 4:17words came back to them as the cloudy chariot of angels received him, Lo
- 4:24I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. At
- 4:28the same time, there floated down to them the sweetest and most joyous music
- 4:31from the angel choir. While the disciples were still gazing upward, voices addressed
- 4:36them, which sounded like richest music. They turned and saw two angels in
- 4:41the form of men, who spoke to them, saying, Ye, men
- 4:44of Galilee, why stangy gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, which
- 4:47is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as
- 4:50ye have seen him go into heaven. These angels were of the company that
- 4:55had been waiting in a shining cloud to escort Jesus to his heavenly home,
- 5:00the most exalted of the angel Throng. They were the two who had come
- 5:03to the tomb at Christ's resurrection, and they had been with him throughout his
- 5:06life on earth. With eager desire, all heaven had waited for the end
- 5:11of his tearing in a world marred by the curse of sin. The time
- 5:15had now come for the heavenly universe to receive their king. Did not the
- 5:18two angels long to join the throng that welcomed Jesus, But in sympathy and
- 5:23love for those whom he had left, they waited to give them comfort.
- 5:28Are they not all ministering spirits set forth to minister for them who shall be
- 5:31heirs of salvation? Hebrews one fourteen. Christ had ascended to heaven in the
- 5:38form of humanity. The disciples had beheld the cloud. Receive him. The
- 5:42same Jesus who had walked and talked and prayed with them, who had broken
- 5:46bread with them, who had been with them in their boats on the lake,
- 5:48and who had that very day toiled with them up the ascent of Olivet.
- 5:54The same Jesus had now gone to share his father's throne. And the
- 5:58angels had assured them that the the very one whom they had seen go up
- 6:00into heaven, would come again, even as he had ascended. He will
- 6:05come with clouds, and every eye shall see him. The Lord himself shall
- 6:11descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with
- 6:15the trump of God, and the dead in Christ shall rise, the Son
- 6:18of Man shall come in his glory, and all the Holy angels with him.
- 6:21Then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory. Revelation one seven
- 6:26Verstssonians four sixteen, Matthew twenty five thirty one. Thus will be fulfilled the
- 6:30Lord's own promise to his disciples. If I go and prepare a place for
- 6:34you, I will come again and receive you unto myself. That where I
- 6:40am there ye may be Also John fourteen three. Well might the disciples rejoice
- 6:46in the hope of their Lord's return. When the disciples went back to Jerusalem,
- 6:49the people looked upon them with amazement. After the trial and crucifixion of
- 6:54Christ, it had been thought that they would appear downcast and ashamed. Their
- 6:59enemies expected to see upon their faces an expression of sorrow and defeat. Instead
- 7:03of this, there was only gladness and triumph. Their faces were aglow with
- 7:08a happiness not born of earth. They did not mourn over disappointed hopes,
- 7:13but were full of praise and thanksgiving to God. With rejoicing. They told
- 7:17the wonderful story of Christ's resurrection and his ascension to heaven, and their testimony
- 7:23was received by many. The disciples no longer had any distrust of the future.
- 7:28They knew that Jesus was in heaven and that his sympathies were with them.
- 7:30Still, they knew that they had a friend at the throne of God,
- 7:34and they were eager to present their request to the Father in the name
- 7:38of Jesus. In solemn awe, they bowed in prayer, repeating the assurance,
- 7:44whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it
- 7:46you hitherto if ye ask nothing in my name, ask and ye shall receive,
- 7:53that your joy may be full John sixteen twenty three and twenty four.
- 7:58They extended the hand of faith high and hire with the mighty argument, it
- 8:03is Christ that died, yea rather that has risen again, who is even
- 8:07at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us Romans eight
- 8:11thirty four and Pinecoss brought them fullness of joy in the presence of the comforter.
- 8:18Even as Christ had promised, all heaven was waiting to welcome the Savior
- 8:22to the celestial courts. As he ascended, he led the way, and
- 8:26the multitude of captives set free at his resurrection followed the heavenly host with shouts
- 8:31and acclamations of praise and celestial song, attended the joyous train as they drew
- 8:37near to the City of God. The challenge is given by the escorting angels.
- 8:43Lift up your heads, o ye gates and be ye lift up ye
- 8:46everlasting doors, and the King of Glory shall come in joyfully. The waiting
- 8:50sentinels respond, who is this King of glory? This they say not because
- 8:56they know not who he is, but because they would hear the answer of
- 9:01exalted praise the Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle, lift
- 9:07up your heads, o ye gates, even lift them up, ye everlasting
- 9:11doors, and the King of Glory shall come in again has heard the challenge?
- 9:16Who is this King of glory? For the angels, never weary of
- 9:20hearing his name exalted, the escorting angels make reply, the Lord of hosts,
- 9:26he is the King of Glory Psalms twenty four seven to ten. Then
- 9:31the portals of the City of God are opened wide, and the angelic throng
- 9:35sweep through the gates amid a burst of rapturous music. There is the throne,
- 9:39and around it the rainbow of promise. There are Cherubom and Seraphim,
- 9:45the commanders of the angel Host, the sons of God, the representaties of
- 9:48the unfallen worlds are assembled, the heavenly Council before which Lucifer had accused God
- 9:54and his son, the representaties of those sinless realms over which Satan had thought
- 9:58to establish his dominion. All are there to welcome the Redeemer. They are
- 10:03eager to celebrate his triumph and to glorify their king. But he waves them
- 10:07back. Not yet he cannot now receive the coronet of glory in the royal
- 10:13robe. He enters into the presence of his Father. He points to his
- 10:18wounded head, the peer side, the marred feet. He lifts his hands,
- 10:22bearing the print of nails. He points to the tokens of his triumph.
- 10:26He presents to God the wave sheaf, those raised with him as representatives
- 10:31of that great multitude who shall come forth from the grave at his second coming.
- 10:37He approaches the Father, with whom there is joy over one sinner that
- 10:41repents, who rejoices over one with singing. Before the foundations of the earth
- 10:46were laid, the Father and the Son had united in a covenant to redeem
- 10:50man if he should be overcome by Satan. They had clasped their hands in
- 10:54a solemn pledge that Christ should become the surety for the human race. This
- 10:58pledge it fulfilled. When upon the cross he cried out, it is finished.
- 11:05He addressed the Father. The compact had been fully carried out. Now
- 11:09he declares, Father, it is finished. I have done thy will,
- 11:13O, my God, I have completed the work of redemption. If thy
- 11:18justice is satisfied, I will that they also whom thou hast given me be
- 11:22with me where I am John nineteen thirty seventeen twenty four. The voice of
- 11:28God is heard, proclaiming that justice is satisfied, Satan is vanquished. Christ's
- 11:33tolling struggling ones on earth are accepted in the beloved Ephesians one six, Before
- 11:41the heavenly angels and the representatives of unfallen worlds. They are declared justified.
- 11:48Where he is there is church shall be Mercy and truth are met together.
- 11:52Righteousness and peace have kissed each other Psalms eighty five ten. The Father's arms
- 11:58encircle his son, and the word is given. Let all the angels of

- 12:15themselves before him, while the glad shout fills all the courts of Heaven.

- 12:28triumph mingle with the music from Angel Harps, till Heaven seems to overflow with
- 12:33joy and praise. Love has conquered the lost is found. Heaven rings with
- 12:39voices and lofty strains, proclaiming blessing and honor and glory and power. Be
- 12:43unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb forever and ever,
