- 0:04>> Dr. Terry Simpson: Today, we are talking about appliances on 4Q,
- 0:07because, let's be honest, it's the things in our
- 0:10kitchen that makes our life easy or
- 0:12utterly maddening. Sure, you can grow your own
- 0:15food, harvest it gently, pluck it at peak
- 0:18ripeness, then cook it over a fire you built yourself
- 0:21using ancestral wood. But most of us,
- 0:24we just want something warm, fast, and not
- 0:27totally awful. And here's the truth. No
- 0:30appliance has brought more people into the kitchen than
- 0:32the air fryer. That little countertop jet
- 0:35engine turned frozen nuggets into culinary events.
- 0:38And today, I, um, want to make your kitchen life even
- 0:41easier.
- 0:45I am your chief medical explanationist and chef, Dr.
- 0:48Terry Simpson. And this is Fork U
- 0:51Fork University, where we make sense of the
- 0:53madness, bust a few myths, and teach you a little
- 0:56bit about food, medicine, and making some
- 0:59actual dishes along the way.
- 1:07Now, for years, I started my mornings with a, uh,
- 1:10grind it yourself, Pete's coffee routine.
- 1:12Major Dickason, pour over time,
- 1:15bloom water, temp dialed, and in the position
- 1:18of an interventional cardiologist.
- 1:21Coffee wasn't a drink. It was a process
- 1:24and a time waster. But lately,
- 1:27I've gone soft, depending on you see it or
- 1:30smart. I switched to Nespresso.
- 1:32Yep, I was on vacation. I didn't bring
- 1:35my typical usual coffee junk.
- 1:38Popped in a capsule at the hotel, not expecting
- 1:41anything, pressed a button, and boom.
- 1:44I got an espresso with crema that would make an Italian
- 1:47nona nod in approval. It's fast,
- 1:49it's smooth, and it means I'm not sacrificing
- 1:52time or flavor. And before you ask,
- 1:55no, I am not sponsored. Not by
- 1:58Nespresso, not by Big Coffee. Just bringing
- 2:01you the things to make your morning better.
- 2:03Which brings me to my blender.
- 2:06Now, you know I have a ton of smoothie
- 2:09recipes. I love smoothies. I recommend them, I write
- 2:12about them. I have written recipes for
- 2:15years. But for years, they making one felt
- 2:18like punishment. Why? Two
- 2:20words. The Vitamix. Now, don't get me
- 2:23wrong, it is a beast of a machine if
- 2:26you're making soup for a medieval banquet or
- 2:29blending a whole coconut tree, sure, but for
- 2:32one simple smoothie, Lugging it out, cleaning
- 2:35five separate parts, reassembling it like a NASA
- 2:38payload. No, thanks. So I stopped
- 2:41making smoothies. Then one day, on
- 2:44a whim, I bought a nutribullet. Small,
- 2:47fast, rinse it, twist it, done. And just like
- 2:50that, smoothies became a part of my daily
- 2:53rhythm again. And no, I'm not paid
- 2:56by NutriBullet either. I just like sharing what actually
- 2:59helps? So here's one that I'm
- 3:01obsessed with lately. It's a smoothie that wakes you up
- 3:04and fuels you, because you deserve both. The
- 3:07ingredients are simple. One cup of cold brewed
- 3:10coffee or a double shot of cooled Nespresso.
- 3:13Scoop of whey protein, vanilla or chocolate.
- 3:15Half a banana for creaminess and sweetness. Half a
- 3:18cup of oat milk or your milk of choice. Teaspoon
- 3:21of peanut butter or almond butter. A dash
- 3:24of cinnamon or cocoa powder. I, uh, will
- 3:27also put in about a quarter to a half cup
- 3:30of Greek yogurt. Throw it
- 3:33all in the NutriBullet. Boom. Fifteen
- 3:36seconds, you're done. Pour it out
- 3:39now. Sometimes I've discovered that tools are the
- 3:41barrier, not the habit. If your blender is a
- 3:44workout in itself, or if your coffee shop setup
- 3:47feels like it's a hostage situation, you're going to skip
- 3:50it. You'll grab a muffin, you'll convince yourself
- 3:53that breakfast isn't my thing. But with the
- 3:56right gear, you'll start building better habits
- 3:59without friction. And that's the key. Whether
- 4:01it's medicine, food or fitness,
- 4:05reduce resistance to the process
- 4:08and increase consistency.
- 4:11So whether it's an air fryer, a capsule espresso
- 4:14machine, or a blender you'll actually use,
- 4:17let the kitchen work for you, not against
- 4:19you. And if you want more recipes, more food science,
- 4:22fewer ads. You know, I have a lot of recipes on terry
- 4:25simpson.com but you will find this one on
- 4:28my blog@ either4q.com or
- 4:31YourDoctorsOrder.com and if
- 4:34you want to support the show without me selling you toothbrushes or

- 4:45this episode was written and researched by me, Dr. Terri
- 4:48Simpson, and experimented on in the kitchen by
- 4:51me. And while I am a triple board certified
- 4:53physician, let me be clear. I. I am not your
- 4:56doctor. If you are making changes to your diet or
- 4:59health routine, please consult your own board certified
- 5:02physician and a registered dietitian. Not
- 5:05a chiropractor, not an eastern trained shaman who learned
- 5:08nutrition by moonlight. All the audio,
- 5:11magic and podcast distribution is handled by our friends at
- 5:14Simpler Media and my own personal pod God,
- 5:16Mr. Evotera.
- 5:19All right everybody, until next time, I'm Dr.
- 5:21Terry Simpson, reminding you that the only thing that should be
- 5:24clunky in your kitchen is is a chunky
- 5:27peanut butter. Have a good week, everybody.
- 5:35Hey Ivo, what's your
- 5:38kitchen appliance hack?
- 5:42>> Speaker B: Pretty sure my kitchen appliance hack will be stealing
- 5:44your coffee maker that you had for years.
- 5:49Pod coffee, Terry. Wait till
- 5:52I tell the fellas.
