Latest / Foul Territory / Jorge Posada feeling unwelcome in the Bronx? How teams handle vets, Yankees prospect Core Jackson joins
Transcript
- 0:06Speaker 1: That's what he said.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what he said.
- 0:08Speaker 3: It's presented by Lorraine Co. This one came in hot
- 0:11Speaker 3: during the Mist of the World series. Joel Sherman and
- 0:14Speaker 3: John Heyman had Jorge Posada on their show. And Posada
- 0:18Speaker 3: doesn't feel welcome with the Yanks. He said, I don't
- 0:20Speaker 3: think they want me there. And this is actually one
- 0:26Speaker 3: of many around baseball veterans who sometimes don't feel welcome.
- 0:31Speaker 2: With their old crew. So he's one of them.
- 0:34Speaker 3: And sometimes he has disagreed with Yankee decisions.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Get in line.
- 0:39Speaker 3: I mean, if a team that's had a ton of
- 0:42Speaker 3: winning hasn't won in a long time, I think that's
- 0:45Speaker 3: pretty normal to speak your mind and say, Hey, I
- 0:47Speaker 3: wish they did things a little bit differently.
- 0:49Speaker 2: I think that's pretty fair. So I'm not surprised to
- 0:52Speaker 2: see this.
- 0:53Speaker 3: I think it opens up a bigger discussion, AJ, of
- 0:55Speaker 3: how some teams are incredible with their former players with
- 1:00Speaker 3: their highly, like their esteemed former players too, right? Like
- 1:04Speaker 3: Jorge Posada ain't Yankees fifth outfielder from, you know, 2012.
- 1:09Speaker 3: Like this is a big deal part of the organization.
- 1:13Speaker 3: And you were too with the White Sox.
- 1:16Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:16Speaker 5: Well, Jorge Posada, I'm not even going to compare myself
- 1:18Speaker 5: to Jorge Posada. He has more rings. He was probably,
- 1:20Speaker 5: I mean, a better player and should have got more
- 1:22Speaker 5: Hall of Fame at, you know, more Hall of Fame
- 1:27Speaker 5: consideration than he did. He was on the ballot for
- 1:29Speaker 5: one year, which is a complete joke. If you haven't
- 1:30Speaker 5: looked up Jorge Posada's numbers, kids, check him out. He
- 1:33Speaker 5: was pretty damn good. Here's the thing about this. Listen,
- 1:37Speaker 5: as somebody that went through this on a team that
- 1:40Speaker 5: I know well and still know a lot of people there,
- 1:46Speaker 5: I was getting paid by the team, okay, as a
- 1:48Speaker 5: fan ambassador. I did my stuff for the fans, but
- 1:50Speaker 5: then I had this show, and I'm on this show
- 1:53Speaker 5: to give my opinion of what I think.
- 1:55Speaker 1: They didn't love that.
- 1:57Speaker 6: Fine, fair.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Jorge, I don't believe, works for the White Yankees. As
- 2:01Speaker 1: he said, they don't want him there.
- 2:03Speaker 5: He's just out there doing his thing. If he sees
- 2:06Speaker 5: something that he doesn't like and he gives his opinion,
- 2:09Speaker 5: then maybe there are teams out there, and I'm not
- 2:12Speaker 5: just calling out the Yankees, I'm calling out all the teams,
- 2:15Speaker 5: that you should listen to. There's a reason why teams
- 2:18Speaker 5: hire former players to come back as special assistants to
- 2:21Speaker 5: the GM, special assistant to the owner, special assistant to
- 2:25Speaker 5: whatever you have to do.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Because they have opinions that you.
- 2:28Speaker 5: Might want to listen to by just saying, oh, dismissing
- 2:31Speaker 5: them and saying, oh, what are you talking about? What
- 2:33Speaker 5: are you talking about? I don't know that it sends
- 2:35Speaker 5: the best message. Again, maybe I'm not the right person
- 2:37Speaker 5: to say this about teams because, again, I went through this.
- 2:40Speaker 5: But I don't understand why teams don't want to use
- 2:43Speaker 5: the resources they have when guys are willing to give
- 2:45Speaker 5: their time, energy, and effort to teams to try to
- 2:48Speaker 5: help the organization that they care about get better.
- 2:50Speaker 6: I think there's three buckets of ex-players. no matter what
- 2:56Speaker 6: your status is. AJ Brzezinski, fringe Hall of Famer, Eric Kratz,
- 3:02Speaker 6: complete backup catcher. There's buckets of players that when they're done,
- 3:07Speaker 6: they think, well, I should be able to do whatever
- 3:11Speaker 6: I want. I should be able to work for every
- 3:12Speaker 6: team and give my advice and everybody should listen. Then
- 3:16Speaker 6: there's the bucket of players who are like, I could
- 3:18Speaker 6: care less. I don't want to have anything to do
- 3:19Speaker 6: with baseball. And then there's the bucket of players that
- 3:23Speaker 6: want to help And I think truly those dudes nine
- 3:30Speaker 6: times out of 10 get jobs doing something that the
- 3:35Speaker 6: organization feels like they add value to. If the organizations
- 3:39Speaker 6: feel like they have, you know, they, they, they just
- 3:42Speaker 6: get a feeling or they're like, Oh yeah, I can't
- 3:44Speaker 6: believe he said that. Like, then I think you're missing
- 3:48Speaker 6: out on something that maybe Jorge Posada could have helped
- 3:51Speaker 6: you with. You look at the Dodgers, I've texted, I
- 3:55Speaker 6: don't know, just in the last week and a half,
- 3:57Speaker 6: I've texted five of my teammates that I didn't even
- 3:59Speaker 6: know were still working for the Dodgers. Like, they're just like, yeah,
- 4:02Speaker 6: you know, I do this, I pop in here or there. Why? Because,
- 4:06Speaker 6: and two of them never even played for the Dodgers.
- 4:09Speaker 6: But they do it because they want their prospects, their players,
- 4:14Speaker 6: whatever it is, their coaches to hear from people that
- 4:17Speaker 6: went through those situations. And I think some organizations say,
- 4:22Speaker 6: I don't like what you said about me. I don't
- 4:25Speaker 6: think what you're doing is right. So we're going to
- 4:28Speaker 6: go away. I'm not saying they're all wrong, but I'm
- 4:30Speaker 6: definitely saying that some of these guys should have jobs
- 4:34Speaker 6: and are very, very helpful to the organization if they
- 4:38Speaker 6: have a job in something.
- 4:40Speaker 3: Okay, I'm going to break it down from a different perspective.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Two buckets for me.
- 4:45Speaker 3: If you're in the bucket of someone who speaks their mind,
- 4:48Speaker 3: you should have freedom of speech about the sport. You
- 4:52Speaker 3: played the sport. You're not sitting there having to say
- 4:54Speaker 3: whatever a team wants, right? You're not taking personal shots.
- 4:59Speaker 3: That shouldn't make you banished from the organization. That's one
- 5:02Speaker 3: side where I think teams completely miss the mark. Some teams,
- 5:05Speaker 3: some thrive with it, some struggle with it, right? Here's
- 5:09Speaker 3: the other part. where I'm going to defend certain teams
- 5:12Speaker 3: and organizations. You might have a strategy, even if it's
- 5:15Speaker 3: not the right strategy. There are guys that could come
- 5:18Speaker 3: in and try to blow up that strategy or tell
- 5:20Speaker 3: a player something else. And then there are conflicting tips, right?
- 5:25Speaker 3: And it's, here's a good example, AJ, because I know
- 5:28Speaker 3: this is a real example. It's been written about, and
- 5:30Speaker 3: there was even more going on behind the scenes. I
- 5:31Speaker 3: heard the angels pitching program was very, very behind, right?
- 5:37Speaker 3: They were one of those teams where it's like, whoa,
- 5:39Speaker 3: You go somewhere else and you're like, damn, this team's
- 5:42Speaker 3: giving me information I had no idea. And we're still
- 5:44Speaker 3: seeing this even with Freddy Peralta going from the Mets
- 5:45Speaker 3: to the Raiders. Part of that was veterans getting involved
- 5:49Speaker 3: with Artie Moreno and being like, we don't need any
- 5:51Speaker 3: of this crap.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Just throw.
- 5:54Speaker 6: No, I'm sorry.
- 5:55Speaker 3: That's not how this works anymore. There are way too
- 5:57Speaker 3: many edges technology-wise, pitch mix, pitch shape. We can go
- 6:02Speaker 3: down the line in how the game is advanced that way.
- 6:06Speaker 2: You can't have that.
- 6:08Speaker 3: If they're changing the way the organization is giving advice
- 6:12Speaker 3: to pitchers and it's holding them back compared to the
- 6:14Speaker 3: rest of the organizations, that's a problem.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Do you agree?
- 6:16Speaker 7: 100%.
- 6:19Speaker 5: But we're not talking about a guy who's giving advice.
- 6:21Speaker 5: He's just trying to give an opinion in Jorge Posada
- 6:24Speaker 5: about an organization that he cares about.
- 6:26Speaker 1: He's not going individually.
- 6:27Speaker 5: Now, if you're going individually to players and you're having
- 6:30Speaker 5: conversations without the organization's okay, that's not right. But if
- 6:34Speaker 5: you're just trying to give broad strokes about an organization
- 6:38Speaker 5: that you played for and care about, I don't have
- 6:39Speaker 5: a problem with this at all. It's if you go
- 6:42Speaker 5: to individuals, that's where it gets.
- 6:44Speaker 6: Wonky for me. I don't know what exactly is going
- 6:49Speaker 6: down with Jorge, but when I look at the overall
- 6:52Speaker 6: broad picture of things, I haven't seen Jeter around with
- 6:56Speaker 6: the Yankees either.
- 6:58Speaker 5: I don't know what went on there. Are Jorge and Jeter–
- 7:02Speaker 5: still best friends? And if so, maybe some of the
- 7:06Speaker 5: things that... Being on this show, I sometimes have gotten
- 7:10Speaker 5: lumped in with things that AJ says. Things that I say,
- 7:14Speaker 5: AJ gets lumped in to those things. Well, you're on
- 7:18Speaker 5: the show, so you said this kind of thing. And
- 7:20Speaker 5: I think being able to smooth those over sometimes or
- 7:25Speaker 5: explain myself. But I don't think Jeter's come back to
- 7:29Speaker 5: a single Legends game. I haven't seen Jeter do much,
- 7:33Speaker 5: if any, Yankee stuff, and I don't watch it every
- 7:35Speaker 5: single day, and so maybe Jorge's lumped in there, right
- 7:39Speaker 5: or wrong, I don't know.
- 7:44Speaker 3: I know that part for a fact, too. I think
- 7:46Speaker 3: Jeter was at CeCe's ceremony, but besides that, yeah, Jeter
- 7:49Speaker 3: doesn't do almost anything with them. There could be a
- 7:53Speaker 3: few paid scenarios where the money's worth it and he
- 7:57Speaker 3: gets involved, but he is not very involved. And there's
- 8:00Speaker 3: a clear cut reason for that, right? Our show just
- 8:03Speaker 3: says it like it is him and Cashman had a
- 8:05Speaker 3: little thing about the contract.
- 8:07Speaker 2: And you can go back to it.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:10Speaker 3: When he was playing, I mean, part of it also
- 8:12Speaker 3: does have to do with paying for a player's future,
- 8:14Speaker 3: not a player's past. So there's two sides to that
- 8:16Speaker 3: story too, but it doesn't matter who's right or wrong
- 8:19Speaker 3: on that part. Cause there's probably a little bit of
- 8:20Speaker 3: both there. What really matters is Jeter was pissed and
- 8:24Speaker 3: he's like, well, screw it. I'm not going to help them.
- 8:25Speaker 3: I'm not going to do as much with them. I'm
- 8:27Speaker 3: sure that's what happened.
- 8:28Speaker 2: I'm sure.
- 8:29Speaker 3: And so that's why he's not as involved with the team.
- 8:31Speaker 3: And that's his choice, and that's fine.
- 8:36Speaker 6: He also took some of the staff down to Miami.
- 8:40Speaker 6: Some of the Yankee staff went down with Jeter to Miami.
- 8:44Speaker 6: So I think there's probably some animosity. But that happens everywhere. Yeah.
- 8:50Speaker 6: you can't not go and get the guys that you
- 8:52Speaker 6: really liked in your organization, right or wrong. Maybe there's
- 8:56Speaker 6: a right way to handle it. So I don't know,
- 8:58Speaker 6: but we're kind of going into a different, yeah, kind
- 9:02Speaker 6: of going into a different realm here with Jeter. But
- 9:05Speaker 6: when Posada's part of Jeter, maybe that's where he's lumped
- 9:08Speaker 6: in at.
- 9:12Speaker 2: AJ, what were you going to say?
- 9:14Speaker 1: I mean, Jeter sent to Yankee Stanton.
- 9:17Speaker 6: So, I mean, he did give him something.
- 9:22Speaker 3: Also, we're going to be mad because he poached a
- 9:24Speaker 3: couple people. Who was the one guy that was like
- 9:26Speaker 3: his right-hand man?
- 9:27Speaker 1: Denbo. Wasn't it Denbo?
- 9:29Speaker 2: Denbo.
- 9:30Speaker 6: Yeah, Denbo.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Hey, running a team made easy. Derek Jeter was.
- 9:37Speaker 3: The ultimate winner in baseball for a period of time
- 9:39Speaker 3: and then tried to run the Marlins and think he
- 9:41Speaker 3: had the blueprint.
- 9:43Speaker 2: It failed miserably. That's just a fact. That's a different job.
- 9:47Speaker 2: So it didn't work out. Yeah.
- 9:51Speaker 6: RIP statue.
- 9:53Speaker 2: I'm with you on Posada.
- 9:55Speaker 3: It sounds like he's kind of innocently getting– I don't
- 9:59Speaker 3: want to say picked on. but getting ignored or not
- 10:01Speaker 3: getting enough love to feel like he should be.
- 10:04Speaker 2: Included when he steps back. But we don't know.
- 10:06Speaker 3: Hey, we could probably bring him on the show in
- 10:09Speaker 3: the off season. I hear we'll have a little bit
- 10:10Speaker 3: of time so we can work on that to get
- 10:13Speaker 3: a little bit more.
- 10:14Speaker 5: It's an absolute shame that we're going to have to,
- 10:15Speaker 5: we're going to have to go through this. I've had
- 10:17Speaker 5: this conversation with numerous people.
- 10:18Speaker 6: It's a shame.
- 10:20Speaker 5: As hot as baseball is, we're going to have to
- 10:22Speaker 5: have all these conversations about the three letters I don't
- 10:25Speaker 5: want to talk about.
- 10:26Speaker 6: Oh, yeah.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Just get ready. Save yourself.
- 10:28Speaker 3: We're a week away from doing that. But let's enjoy
- 10:30Speaker 3: it while it lasts. We'll step aside for a moment.
- 10:32Speaker 3: And also, baseball fans, time to lock it in. Lorainco
- 10:36Speaker 3: remineralizing patches are nicotine-free. They've got the powerful nootropics to
- 10:40Speaker 3: keep you mentally sharp. It supports your teeth. That's what
- 10:43Speaker 3: the brand's all about, too, if you want to read
- 10:44Speaker 3: more about it.
- 10:45Speaker 2: What they have.
- 10:46Speaker 3: They've got the gum that I like by Lorraine.com use
- 10:48Speaker 3: code FT 10 at checkout for 10% off. Yankees prospect
- 11:00Speaker 3: core Jackson joins us right now. He's playing for salt
- 11:02Speaker 3: river out in the Arizona folly core.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Thanks for the time, man. How you doing? How is
- 11:06Speaker 2: it out there? Yeah.
- 11:08Speaker 4: I appreciate you guys having me on and I'm having
- 11:10Speaker 4: a great time out here.
- 11:11Speaker 8: Can't complain. I'm enjoying some nice Arizona weather. So, having
- 11:15Speaker 8: a good time.
- 11:17Speaker 2: We like that.
- 11:18Speaker 3: Hey, Cora, just to introduce yourself to our audience, can
- 11:21Speaker 3: you start by giving us a little bit of background
- 11:23Speaker 3: as to, you know, how you've gotten to this point
- 11:24Speaker 3: and also how would you describe your game?
- 11:28Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 11:28Speaker 8: Well, I was born and raised in Canada, played high
- 11:32Speaker 8: school baseball in Canada growing up.
- 11:34Speaker 4: Originally went to the University of Nebraska for a year
- 11:37Speaker 4: and then out here to a junior.
- 11:39Speaker 8: College, South Mountain Community College.
- 11:42Speaker 4: I was there for a year and then spent my
- 11:44Speaker 4: last two years at the University of Utah and then
- 11:48Speaker 4: got picked up by the Yankees in the fifth round
- 11:50Speaker 4: and I've been playing with them. I got to double
- 11:53Speaker 4: A this year and I'm out here in the fall league.
- 11:57Speaker 4: I'm just trying to keep going and keep playing well.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Cora, hold on.
- 12:02Speaker 5: Wait, you played in Nebraska? Darren Erstad wasn't still there
- 12:05Speaker 5: as your coach, was he?
- 12:07Speaker 8: No, no, he wasn't there.
- 12:09Speaker 5: Okay, phew, because I was going to say, Ersta, I
- 12:11Speaker 5: missed on you, man. Like, you missed on Schwellenbach and
- 12:14Speaker 5: some other guys. I was like, man, I'm going to
- 12:15Speaker 5: have to call him, reach out to him, and say, Ersta,
- 12:18Speaker 5: what were you doing as a coach in Nebraska if
- 12:20Speaker 5: you let you walk?
- 12:21Speaker 1: So, okay, phew, thank you. That made me smile a
- 12:25Speaker 1: little bit.
- 12:26Speaker 5: Can you describe to people that don't understand about Juco?
- 12:29Speaker 5: Because I saw– what's the big Juco at the World
- 12:34Speaker 5: Series last year?
- 12:36Speaker 8: Oh, yeah, Grand Junction.
- 12:38Speaker 6: Okay.
- 12:39Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 12:41Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 12:41Speaker 5: I saw him at the world series last night, but
- 12:44Speaker 5: can you explain what Juco's like for people before we
- 12:46Speaker 5: get into the fall league and, and how well you're
- 12:48Speaker 5: doing out there and how you're a Yankees prospect, what
- 12:50Speaker 5: Juco's like to most people? Cause most people hear Juco
- 12:53Speaker 5: and they're like, ah, what a waste of time. It's
- 12:55Speaker 5: never going to work for me. And then you see Ms. Juco, right? Ashby,
- 12:59Speaker 5: Juco guys. And then here you are on our show
- 13:00Speaker 5: talking as a guy that came from Juco.
- 13:03Speaker 8: Yeah. I think Juco really just like, well, I'll start
- 13:06Speaker 8: off with this.
- 13:07Speaker 4: I want, Obviously, the rest of my freshman year, having
- 13:09Speaker 4: all the luxuries, you have all the things of a
- 13:12Speaker 4: D1 school. And then I go to South Mountain Community
- 13:14Speaker 4: College and I'm changing in the parking lot, dragging the field,
- 13:18Speaker 4: doing all that stuff.
- 13:19Speaker 8: And it really helps you appreciate the.
- 13:21Speaker 4: Little things and how much baseball means and your teammates,
- 13:27Speaker 4: how much that matters. And you don't have all the
- 13:29Speaker 4: luxuries of the nice restaurants, the nice apartments, all that stuff,
- 13:34Speaker 4: the nice fields.
- 13:35Speaker 8: And you kind of got to grind for it and
- 13:37Speaker 8: it makes you just appreciate it that much more.
- 13:38Speaker 6: Do you feel like this is kind of like a
- 13:42Speaker 6: two-fold question, but it's kind of about what you're talking about?
- 13:45Speaker 6: I just saw the Canadian Premier team with Jamie Romack
- 13:48Speaker 6: coaching down in Jupiter. I don't know if you played
- 13:51Speaker 6: for those guys, but watching those guys play, and talking
- 13:55Speaker 6: to Jamie about youth movement in Canada, how much do
- 13:59Speaker 6: you feel like, and I know you were playing on
- 14:01Speaker 6: a different team, but watching the Jays go to the
- 14:04Speaker 6: World Series, how much do you think that's helping youth
- 14:08Speaker 6: baseball in Canada to then maybe not make you, or
- 14:12Speaker 6: maybe help you be ready when you go to Nebraska
- 14:15Speaker 6: and not have to go to a junior college?
- 14:18Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I think starting off the Jays making
- 14:20Speaker 4: the World Series, I mean, you got a whole country
- 14:22Speaker 4: cheering for one team.
- 14:23Speaker 8: Like that's something kind of special you don't really get.
- 14:26Speaker 4: And it just, I don't know, it gives those kids
- 14:28Speaker 4: in Canada who don't have all that.
- 14:31Speaker 8: We only get to play a little bit of the year.
- 14:32Speaker 8: We don't get to play in the winters.
- 14:33Speaker 4: We can't play year round. But it just gives us
- 14:35Speaker 4: that much that there's a sport in Canada. There's a
- 14:38Speaker 4: baseball team in Canada that we can kind of look
- 14:41Speaker 4: up to when we're kids.
- 14:42Speaker 8: And like maybe one day I can make it there.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Cora, let's talk about the Fall League. You're out there.
- 14:50Speaker 5: You're playing with– because when I went to the Fall League,
- 14:52Speaker 5: this was almost 30 years ago, we played in our division.
- 14:56Speaker 5: So we had– I was AL Central. So we had
- 14:57Speaker 5: the AL Central that all played together. You guys have Minnesota, Washington, Colorado,
- 15:03Speaker 5: and Arizona. Is there anybody you knew before you went
- 15:06Speaker 5: out there that was a non-Yankee prospect? Or is there
- 15:09Speaker 5: someone out there on your team you're like, man, I've
- 15:11Speaker 5: really gotten to know this guy and I love this guy?
- 15:14Speaker 8: Man, that's a good question. I mean, I'm not going
- 15:17Speaker 8: to lie. Our team is great. Like, I couldn't have
- 15:19Speaker 8: asked for a better team out here. We're a tight-knit group.
- 15:22Speaker 4: I mean, everybody's a good dude, and we're all going
- 15:25Speaker 4: for the same goal.
- 15:26Speaker 8: But I'm trying to think. That's a good question.
- 15:34Speaker 4: I mean, I played against some of these guys in
- 15:36Speaker 4: high A this year, the Washington guys. I played against
- 15:39Speaker 4: a couple of the Rocky guys in double A as well. So,
- 15:42Speaker 4: I mean, just reconnecting with those guys– And getting to
- 15:44Speaker 4: play with them is kind of cool.
- 15:48Speaker 6: A different level. Kind of explain, because we have different
- 15:50Speaker 6: people from the Fall League going. Do you feel like
- 15:53Speaker 6: this is a different level from, like, would you have
- 15:56Speaker 6: been more ready for this experience playing-wise in the Fall
- 16:01Speaker 6: League had you been in AA or AAA? Or do
- 16:03Speaker 6: you feel like it is all across the spectrum of players'
- 16:07Speaker 6: abilities that are out there?
- 16:09Speaker 4: Yeah, I think there's a ton of different skills and talents.
- 16:12Speaker 4: You got guys who are just coming off of injury
- 16:15Speaker 4: who are trying to get the feel for it again.
- 16:17Speaker 4: You got guys who fresh out of the draft who
- 16:19Speaker 4: are just ready.
- 16:20Speaker 8: To get going.
- 16:21Speaker 4: You got older guys who have missed time, different levels
- 16:25Speaker 4: like that. So I think it's just a good solid
- 16:27Speaker 4: mix of everything, but it's a ton of skill out
- 16:30Speaker 4: here for sure.
- 16:32Speaker 7: Okay, Kratzy, here we are again, man. How many times
- 16:35Speaker 7: do we have to tell people to get the best
- 16:37Speaker 7: tickets in the house? Where do we got to go?
- 16:38Speaker 7: We got to go to SeatGeek. It's been worth it
- 16:41Speaker 7: so many times, so many years. The green light will
- 16:44Speaker 7: let you know when it is time to go and
- 16:47Speaker 7: the best seats available. The red will let you know
- 16:49Speaker 7: if it's not the best. Kratzy, tell them how easy
- 16:51Speaker 7: it is.
- 16:52Speaker 6: Todd, I know it's easy, but I'm looking for the
- 16:55Speaker 6: deals because that's what I do. Even so much, like
- 16:58Speaker 6: we're getting such a good deal, I want you to
- 17:00Speaker 6: come across the river and and we'll go to a
- 17:02Speaker 6: Sixers game together. I don't know where to sit in
- 17:04Speaker 6: the stadium, but it'll let me know that it's a
- 17:07Speaker 6: perfect view because I'm not a big NBA fan, but
- 17:11Speaker 6: I gotta go see the Sixers play with LeBron and
- 17:13Speaker 6: the boys.
- 17:14Speaker 2: And of course I have a code for you all.
- 17:15Speaker 7: You can use code TERRITORY10 for 10% off your next
- 17:18Speaker 7: set of tickets at SeatGeek. That's 10% of all tickets
- 17:22Speaker 7: with promo code TERRITORY10. Make sure you click the link
- 17:26Speaker 7: in the description to download the app and have the
- 17:28Speaker 7: code automatically added to your account so you can use
- 17:31Speaker 7: it later.
- 17:32Speaker 5: Cora, by the way, when I went to the Fall Leagues,
- 17:34Speaker 5: I came from the September call-up, so it was way different.
- 17:37Speaker 5: I went from the big leagues, playing in Cleveland, Jacobs Field,
- 17:40Speaker 5: where there's 50,000, 40,000 people, whatever they hold. And then
- 17:43Speaker 5: I get to the Fall League, and I'm like, where's
- 17:46Speaker 5: all the people? people here this is cool and it's
- 17:49Speaker 5: mom and dad and someone's girlfriend you're like wow so
- 17:51Speaker 5: how do you get up how do you get up
- 17:53Speaker 5: for these games right i i mean i know you
- 17:56Speaker 5: know you're you're still grinding through the minor leagues and
- 17:59Speaker 5: all these games are important but how explain to people
- 18:01Speaker 5: how hard it is to get excited for a folly
- 18:04Speaker 5: game when there's literally seven people in the stands and
- 18:07Speaker 5: i don't know if you guys still play at 10
- 18:08Speaker 5: a.m we used to play at 10 a.m which made
- 18:10Speaker 5: it even harder because some of us might have gone
- 18:12Speaker 5: to scottsdale too much.
- 18:14Speaker 8: Okay No, we're lucky we don't have any 10 AMs
- 18:17Speaker 8: this year.
- 18:18Speaker 4: 1.30 is usually the earliest. But no, it's a different
- 18:22Speaker 4: vibe for sure with less people out there. But I mean,
- 18:26Speaker 4: you got to kind of create your own energy. Like
- 18:29Speaker 4: I said, our team does a really good job of
- 18:31Speaker 4: picking each other up and keeping the energy in there.
- 18:33Speaker 4: We got a lot of guys who love to talk, dance,
- 18:36Speaker 4: and doing all that stuff.
- 18:37Speaker 8: So it keeps the energy good, the vibe good in there.
- 18:40Speaker 4: And then just even the coaching staff, they're always keeping
- 18:43Speaker 4: it positive, keeping it energetic with what we do. So
- 18:47Speaker 4: it makes it a little bit easier with not that
- 18:50Speaker 4: support of the crowd.
- 18:52Speaker 6: Your team or another team, the All-Star Game's coming up.
- 18:55Speaker 6: And I choose to believe the Arizona Fall League, you know,
- 18:58Speaker 6: it's the big names. It's rarely like, ooh, the dude
- 19:01Speaker 6: that's killing it. So they kind of have an idea
- 19:03Speaker 6: of who's going to go to the All-Star Game. So
- 19:05Speaker 6: if you don't get selected, it's okay. If you do,
- 19:08Speaker 6: don't think you're the king. You're the king, Pumbaa. But
- 19:11Speaker 6: they have a home run derby. Of the guys you've seen,
- 19:14Speaker 6: either on your team in BP, I don't care what
- 19:16Speaker 6: they've done in the games, or you've seen on other teams,
- 19:19Speaker 6: who would you like to see hit in that home
- 19:21Speaker 6: run derby?
- 19:23Speaker 8: I got to choose my team at Cal West.
- 19:26Speaker 4: He's a first baseman who plays a little bit outfield,
- 19:28Speaker 4: but man, he hits, he gets some, some home runs
- 19:31Speaker 4: for sure. I actually, the other day he.
- 19:35Speaker 8: Had two, one at 112 and one at 109, like 450,
- 19:37Speaker 8: like he can swing. So I would like to see
- 19:39Speaker 8: him get into some balls.
- 19:41Speaker 6: Were you guys, were you guys together in Hudson Valley
- 19:43Speaker 6: and Somerset?
- 19:45Speaker 8: Yeah. I played the whole year with him in, Hudson
- 19:48Speaker 8: Valley yeah.
- 19:49Speaker 6: So do you guys still get so I finished with
- 19:53Speaker 6: the Yankees in 2019-20 and they started to put the
- 19:58Speaker 6: paper on your chair at the end of every two
- 20:01Speaker 6: weeks or the end of every homestand do they do
- 20:04Speaker 6: that and do you go up to him and go bro,
- 20:07Speaker 6: I averaged 98.6 in my BP, and he's like, 101
- 20:11Speaker 6: in my BP.
- 20:14Speaker 4: See, they don't put the paper anymore, but they got
- 20:16Speaker 4: all the metrics online where you can go into your
- 20:19Speaker 4: account and look all that up. So we get into some–
- 20:22Speaker 4: we get into little debates of who can hit it harder,
- 20:24Speaker 4: who can hit it farther, but he usually ends up winning, so.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Court, do they do that in the fall league for you?
- 20:31Speaker 5: Like, do you guys– because if you watch a big
- 20:32Speaker 5: league game and– Every pitch, the guy looks up and
- 20:36Speaker 5: every hitter looks up at the vert and the horizontal
- 20:39Speaker 5: and the speed. And then the guys hit the home
- 20:41Speaker 5: run or they get the fly out and they'll look
- 20:43Speaker 5: up at the exit velo and the launch angle. In
- 20:46Speaker 5: the fall league, do they– do you guys talk about
- 20:48Speaker 5: that kind of stuff? Like as soon as you hit
- 20:49Speaker 5: a ball, do you run and grab the iPad and say, oh, man,
- 20:51Speaker 5: how did that ball not go out of the park?
- 20:54Speaker 4: I mean, there's definitely– Those guys who love the iPad,
- 20:59Speaker 4: me personally, I'm not one of them. I like to
- 21:01Speaker 4: just love the game. And if I got it, I
- 21:03Speaker 4: know I got it. And if I didn't, I didn't
- 21:05Speaker 4: barrel it perfect. But there's definitely those guys who go
- 21:09Speaker 4: straight to the iPad.
- 21:09Speaker 8: Would I hit that? Would I hit that? But sometimes
- 21:12Speaker 8: it's cool to see what the angles and the metrics are.
- 21:15Speaker 8: But I try to stay away.
- 21:18Speaker 6: Different organizations, and different just baseball in general, they pay
- 21:22Speaker 6: for the power. They pay for the home run. When
- 21:25Speaker 6: you watch this World Series, does it make you feel like,
- 21:29Speaker 6: wait a minute, I can make an adjustability. You're not
- 21:32Speaker 6: a big strikeout guy. You get your walks. You have
- 21:35Speaker 6: a little bit of chase, but nothing egregious. Do you
- 21:39Speaker 6: feel like when you watch these games, you're like, they
- 21:41Speaker 6: had success? I know the organization or baseball says swing
- 21:45Speaker 6: as hard as you can, even when it's not your count.
- 21:48Speaker 6: Do you think that's something that your generation or your
- 21:51Speaker 6: age player is going to keep pushing and getting better
- 21:55Speaker 6: at to have a better career?
- 21:58Speaker 4: Yeah, see, I mean, like you said, the games tend
- 22:00Speaker 4: into home runs and turn into power and all that,
- 22:03Speaker 4: but that's.
- 22:04Speaker 8: The Brewers and the Rays, the way they played.
- 22:07Speaker 4: Is the way I grew up knowing how to play
- 22:09Speaker 4: and was taught how to play. It's, you have your
- 22:11Speaker 4: home runs, but it's line drives in the gaps, backside singles,
- 22:15Speaker 4: getting it done with two strikes, not striking out, like
- 22:19Speaker 4: making pressure, putting pressure on the defense and like doing
- 22:21Speaker 4: whatever it takes to score a run. So I would
- 22:25Speaker 4: love to see the game go kind of back to that,
- 22:27Speaker 4: but I think it's trending in more, more power and
- 22:29Speaker 4: more strikeouts and home runs and power on power. But yeah,
- 22:35Speaker 4: The baseball I grew up knowing was backside singles, but
- 22:38Speaker 4: hit in the gap and play hard-nosed baseball.
- 22:41Speaker 5: So you're enjoying the heck out of this World Series
- 22:43Speaker 5: is what you're telling me.
- 22:44Speaker 4: I am.
- 22:44Speaker 8: I love it.
- 22:45Speaker 5: Because it sounds like you just described the Brewers and
- 22:47Speaker 5: the Rays to a tee. They do hit some home runs,
- 22:50Speaker 5: but they go the other way. If you noticed last
- 22:52Speaker 5: night in the inning where the Rays scored the runs
- 22:53Speaker 5: in the 12th, a lot of the hits were the
- 22:55Speaker 5: other way, and the Brewers are.
- 22:57Speaker 1: Known for that. Do you guys watch the World Series
- 22:59Speaker 1: out there?
- 22:59Speaker 5: Do you guys have, like, watch parties where you go
- 23:01Speaker 5: to someone's condo or house, apartment, and watch the games?
- 23:06Speaker 4: We haven't done no watch parties yet, but we usually
- 23:08Speaker 4: have it on here after we get home from the game.
- 23:11Speaker 4: Nice with the afternoon game, so we can actually watch
- 23:13Speaker 4: it at night. So it makes our evenings pretty eventful.
- 23:16Speaker 5: I bet you watched last year, though, didn't you, when
- 23:18Speaker 5: the Jays were in it? So now I bet you
- 23:21Speaker 5: watched last year.
- 23:23Speaker 6: I did. All right. Well, you were saying you come
- 23:28Speaker 6: back to the apartment. Do you guys pay for your apartment,
- 23:31Speaker 6: or does the team pay for it?
- 23:34Speaker 8: Team-funded. which is nice.
- 23:37Speaker 6: I mean, how many roommates do you have?
- 23:40Speaker 8: There's three of us. Me and two of the other
- 23:42Speaker 8: Yankee guys.
- 23:44Speaker 6: Three bedrooms?
- 23:45Speaker 8: Three bedrooms, two baths.
- 23:48Speaker 6: AJ is the one. AJ is the old... you know,
- 23:53Speaker 6: I'll get off my lawn kind of thing. But I'll
- 23:55Speaker 6: tell you when I went to the fall league in 2005, many,
- 23:58Speaker 6: many years after AJ did, we had six people in
- 24:01Speaker 6: a two bedroom apartment and I snored. So I took
- 24:04Speaker 6: one of the entire rooms.
- 24:09Speaker 1: You don't even want to know my story. You don't
- 24:11Speaker 1: even core. Listen, we had to find our own apartments.
- 24:14Speaker 6: Okay.
- 24:14Speaker 5: We had to find our own place. We had to
- 24:16Speaker 5: pay for our own place. We had to pay for
- 24:18Speaker 5: our food. We had to do all that.
- 24:19Speaker 1: We weren't making nothing. I was there in 98, by
- 24:21Speaker 1: the way. So I was there way before crafts.
- 24:23Speaker 8: Okay.
- 24:24Speaker 5: And I slept on an air mattress on the floor.
- 24:27Speaker 5: We had a two bedroom, two bathroom apartment. I slept
- 24:32Speaker 5: on an air mattress on the floor. Another buddy, Mike
- 24:34Speaker 5: Lincoln slept on the couch and we had two roommates
- 24:37Speaker 5: that were married. And so we gave them the two
- 24:40Speaker 5: rooms upstairs because they had kids. So their wife and
- 24:42Speaker 5: kids would come visit. So we would sleep on the,
- 24:45Speaker 5: on the couch and I was on the air mattress
- 24:47Speaker 5: on the floor and And my other two roommates were
- 24:49Speaker 5: upstairs with their families when they would come in town. So, yeah,
- 24:52Speaker 5: it was a little bit different than what it is now.
- 24:54Speaker 4: I would say that's some dedication right there.
- 24:58Speaker 6: They're treating you right. They're treating you right. You were
- 25:02Speaker 6: talking about grinding. You were changing in the parking lot.
- 25:06Speaker 6: I like that. I like that. Last question from me.
- 25:10Speaker 6: Is there something behind you going– because your middle name
- 25:12Speaker 6: is Core. And when I found out we were having
- 25:15Speaker 6: Core Jackson on the show, I was like– me and A.J.
- 25:18Speaker 6: both said, whoa, that's a big league name. So did you–
- 25:23Speaker 6: when did that change? And were you like, oh, I'm
- 25:25Speaker 6: so good at baseball, I'm going to change my name
- 25:27Speaker 6: to Core. I'm going to go by Core because that's gas.
- 25:33Speaker 4: No, honestly, my entire life I never heard my parents
- 25:36Speaker 4: call me James. The only time I ever get James
- 25:40Speaker 4: is when I'm at the doctor's office or I'm crossing
- 25:42Speaker 4: the border. It's the only time I get James.
- 25:45Speaker 8: So it's been core my whole life.
- 25:48Speaker 2: Well, I think your parents did it right because it's unique.
- 25:50Speaker 1: It's core.
- 25:51Speaker 2: I'm into it.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Core, can you explain? We had an argument earlier, and
- 25:54Speaker 1: you're out in Arizona.
- 25:55Speaker 5: I know you're from Canada, so this might be– this
- 25:58Speaker 5: is a weird question because we couldn't get it right either.
- 26:01Speaker 5: How do you say the name of the team on
- 26:03Speaker 5: Monday that you all beat 20-4? It's the cactus out there.
- 26:08Speaker 5: It's the Sahara, Saguaro, Saguaro, Saguaro.
- 26:12Speaker 2: No, no, no. Wait, wait.
- 26:15Speaker 3: I wasn't part of this conversation. I called Arizona folly
- 26:18Speaker 3: games for years.
- 26:19Speaker 2: It's Suarez. The G is very silent.
- 26:24Speaker 8: I could have sworn you Saguaro.
- 26:26Speaker 6: Now look at us. We're teaching you too.
- 26:27Speaker 8: Yeah, there we go.
- 26:30Speaker 3: And that team has the best marketing because of that.
- 26:32Speaker 3: Every time it's brought up, somebody is like, wait, what?
- 26:35Speaker 3: And then you explain it. So it's, organic marketing with
- 26:38Speaker 3: the name.
- 26:39Speaker 6: I was a Saguaro.
- 26:41Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 26:41Speaker 2: Oh, that's why, you know, there you go. Yeah.
- 26:43Speaker 5: I was a desert dog. I was a Phoenix desert
- 26:45Speaker 5: dog back in the day.
- 26:48Speaker 3: Well, let's, let's let our, uh, salt river rafter do
- 26:51Speaker 3: his thing.
- 26:51Speaker 2: Core. This was great, dude. Hope you enjoyed it.
- 26:53Speaker 3: Great, great interview. Uh, keep doing your thing.
- 26:55Speaker 2: Okay. Enjoy it out there. Awesome.
- 26:58Speaker 6: Thank you guys.
- 26:58Speaker 8: Appreciate you guys having me. It was good talking with
- 27:00Speaker 8: you all.
