- 0:00Speaker 1: This podcast was recorded on wrundery Land Always was, always
- 0:05Speaker 1: will be Aboriginal Land.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Hey cheeks, I'm Sal and I'm ol and this is
- 0:16Speaker 2: two broad.
- 0:17Speaker 3: Chicks, the show that shares life lessons and tips to
- 0:19Speaker 3: help make you rich in life. And today is very
- 0:24Speaker 3: exciting because we are joined by Jade aka Driven by Beauty.
- 0:29Speaker 4: Thank you so much for having me guy, Welcome to
- 0:31Speaker 4: the show.
- 0:32Speaker 3: We're so excited to have like a no bullshit care chat.
- 0:37Speaker 5: Finally, I feel like this is what we've needed. I'm like,
- 0:40Speaker 5: this is just like a personal console basically, just al
- 0:43Speaker 5: and I calm down, yea chicks of course.
- 0:46Speaker 3: Yeah, because we did ask the chicks to send in
- 0:49Speaker 3: a bunch of questions, so we've got a few of
- 0:51Speaker 3: those as well.
- 0:51Speaker 4: To check at you too. Okay, cool, let's do it.
- 0:54Speaker 3: But before we get into it, we like to start
- 0:56Speaker 3: with a life lesson of the week, So would you
- 0:57Speaker 3: like to kick us off?
- 0:59Speaker 4: Okay?
- 1:00Speaker 6: You can come from nothing, you can work really hard,
- 1:04Speaker 6: and you can achieve anything.
- 1:06Speaker 4: I love that. And you have to always.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Give back, yes, one thousand percent. That's so true.
- 1:13Speaker 3: I think sometimes we forget that part. Yeah, because you're
- 1:16Speaker 3: sort of just focused on your journey and what you're doing.
- 1:19Speaker 3: But yeah, I think that's so important.
- 1:21Speaker 4: It's it's essential. Yeah, I love that.
- 1:24Speaker 5: What's yours Mine is a TikTok that I saw, and
- 1:28Speaker 5: it was that Carrie Bradshaw was thirty two in season
- 1:31Speaker 5: one of Sex.
- 1:32Speaker 2: And the City.
- 1:33Speaker 5: So like, if you're in your twenties and thinking like
- 1:38Speaker 5: what the fuck am I doing? Or if you're in
- 1:39Speaker 5: your thirties and you're like, oh, life's winding down, it's
- 1:43Speaker 5: not at all like.
- 1:45Speaker 2: You're in your first season.
- 1:46Speaker 5: Yeah, you're in your first season and Sex in the
- 1:48Speaker 5: City and it just like makes me so excited for that.
- 1:52Speaker 5: And there is that really comment saying that, like your
- 1:54Speaker 5: thirties is just your twenties with more money, yes, which
- 1:57Speaker 5: I'm like, slag.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Yeah, you're like, I'm excited for that.
- 1:59Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, bring on.
- 2:01Speaker 5: Like the Samantha Jones, Well, Samantha was like older than
- 2:03Speaker 5: the rest of them, wasn't she.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Did you ever watch Sex?
- 2:05Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 2:05Speaker 4: I did. Yeah, that's that's it. Like, I love that
- 2:07Speaker 4: you said that, because your life can really start at
- 2:09Speaker 4: any y.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Yeah seriously. Yeah.
- 2:12Speaker 3: My life lesson is to use Google Maps and pins
- 2:18Speaker 3: to save locations for when you're traveling oh yeah, so
- 2:23Speaker 3: in your Google Maps you can save the pins of
- 2:25Speaker 3: different like restaurants and bars and attractions so that you
- 2:29Speaker 3: can plan your trips.
- 2:31Speaker 2: But we can't read a map. Yeah, but that's why
- 2:35Speaker 2: that's helpful. Okay, because then it's all.
- 2:37Speaker 4: In one place.
- 2:38Speaker 3: You're not being like, but that's why that's helpful, and like,
- 2:42Speaker 3: you shit on my life.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Lesson god, man.
- 2:45Speaker 5: I'm not. I'm like, fuck, dude, we like notoriously cannot
- 2:49Speaker 5: read a map. Like we'll be walking one way and
- 2:51Speaker 5: it'll be like, yeah, we'll be walking one way for
- 2:54Speaker 5: like ten minutes.
- 2:54Speaker 2: I'm like, why is the time getting a longer?
- 2:57Speaker 5: I'm like, and then we're like, we're walking the completely
- 2:59Speaker 5: wrong way.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Shall we get into the episode, let's do it.
- 3:08Speaker 3: So on TikTok, you mentioned how every video you've seen
- 3:11Speaker 3: on the order of your skincare routine has not been
- 3:14Speaker 3: correct or specific.
- 3:17Speaker 2: So can you.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Please tell us what is the correct order to apply
- 3:21Speaker 3: your skincare?
- 3:23Speaker 6: Okay, So it really depends if you're using an oil
- 3:26Speaker 6: based something or a water based something. Basically, the basic
- 3:33Speaker 6: theory is from thinnest to thickest. So we want to cleanse,
- 3:37Speaker 6: missed or tone and then if a harderonic acid, and
- 3:43Speaker 6: if an oil based vitamin C then and a moisturizer
- 3:46Speaker 6: and SPF. If you're using a water based vitamin C,
- 3:52Speaker 6: it would be cleanse missed vitamin C, harleronic acid, moisturizer, SPF.
- 3:59Speaker 4: Does that makes sense because you have to do water
- 4:04Speaker 4: before oil?
- 4:05Speaker 5: Okay, right, that makes sense? What about for your evening routine?
- 4:09Speaker 6: So follows the same as the water before oil. So
- 4:13Speaker 6: if you're using an oil based retinoid, it needs to
- 4:16Speaker 6: follow the same suit.
- 4:18Speaker 5: How would you know for people that you know are
- 4:21Speaker 5: looking at their cabinet right now and they're like, I
- 4:23Speaker 5: don't know what if it's water based or oil based,
- 4:26Speaker 5: how would you know whether it is?
- 4:27Speaker 2: Just look it up or doesn't say it on the product?
- 4:30Speaker 6: On the ingredients, the first ingredient is usually water, so
- 4:34Speaker 6: then you know it's water based. If it says an
- 4:37Speaker 6: oil based or it's not. Doesn't say water, then it's not.
- 4:41Speaker 6: It's not it'll be something else.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Okay, okay? So simple Also.
- 4:46Speaker 4: Feel the texture? Is it oily? Water?
- 4:50Speaker 6: Is it a silicony? Sometimes it can be a bit
- 4:53Speaker 6: of a silicony. Feel things like that.
- 4:55Speaker 5: Okay, So what is the skincare routine that you'd recommend
- 4:59Speaker 5: for someone who wants to embrace a minimalist skincare routine.
- 5:03Speaker 6: I've got lots of these in my clinic, partially because
- 5:07Speaker 6: we need to do it because their barrio is completely
- 5:09Speaker 6: impaired and things like that.
- 5:10Speaker 4: So just cleanse.
- 5:12Speaker 6: Sometimes I've got to missed holeronic acid and moisturizer.
- 5:15Speaker 4: Yeah, and sef that's it.
- 5:17Speaker 2: When you say missed, what is that?
- 5:20Speaker 6: So I'm fine that particularly Welcome to Melbourne.
- 5:24Speaker 4: We're very very hard drided here. I'm a very crapey baite,
- 5:28Speaker 4: very freaking crappy.
- 5:30Speaker 6: So we're fighting the alements here and it is low
- 5:33Speaker 6: humidity and it is us struggle were we need a
- 5:36Speaker 6: missed because it's locking in the water and when you're
- 5:38Speaker 6: putting things on like a nice cinamide or you clear
- 5:40Speaker 6: gel serums like a holeronic acid that's able to grasp
- 5:44Speaker 6: onto the mist and hold more of its weight in water.
- 5:47Speaker 6: So holeronic acid is like the ant of the.
- 5:52Speaker 4: Where we go.
- 5:53Speaker 6: I love it, though I know I know it's just like, oh,
- 5:55Speaker 6: you never know where we're going here. It's like this ant, right,
- 5:58Speaker 6: and it holds a thousand times it's home weight of water.
- 6:01Speaker 4: So you know how ants are like these You think
- 6:04Speaker 4: about David Attenbra You know, I can't do his accent
- 6:06Speaker 4: right now, but he's like, as the ant goes through
- 6:08Speaker 4: the forest, I'll do it today. You nailed it.
- 6:13Speaker 6: Yeah, but yeah, he's through the forest and you seem
- 6:16Speaker 6: like and he's just got this like huge thing up
- 6:19Speaker 6: in the air and he's carrying it.
- 6:21Speaker 4: That's your hyaluronic acid.
- 6:22Speaker 6: But nice cinamide is also really good at decreasing trans
- 6:26Speaker 6: of beigenmal water loss, which is dehydration. But usually nicinamid
- 6:31Speaker 6: and hyaluronic acid in those clear gel serums, they'll be
- 6:34Speaker 6: paired together.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Okay, So if you're.
- 6:36Speaker 5: Going to look for a product, you would recommend looking
- 6:38Speaker 5: for a hyaluronic acid and a nio cinemide in the
- 6:41Speaker 5: one product.
- 6:42Speaker 6: Yeah either or yeah, just get that clear juicy gel
- 6:45Speaker 6: serum on your face.
- 6:46Speaker 3: Yeah, Okay, I'm going to imagine an ant every time
- 6:49Speaker 3: I apply my HA going forward.
- 6:51Speaker 2: How do you tell what skin.
- 6:53Speaker 4: Type you have? Okay?
- 6:54Speaker 6: So I hear this a lot, and I still think
- 6:56Speaker 6: that people need to get assessed, and they need to
- 6:58Speaker 6: get assessed at the right place where they know, because
- 7:00Speaker 6: often they'll go to other places.
- 7:01Speaker 4: And this is no diss to anyone out.
- 7:03Speaker 6: There because it actually I used to be beauty therapist
- 7:06Speaker 6: and what I knew then to what I know now
- 7:08Speaker 6: is very very different. So for you guys out there,
- 7:12Speaker 6: the best way for you to tell is if you
- 7:14Speaker 6: get shiny from about midday or three pm on your
- 7:19Speaker 6: forehead or your t zone, and I mean you can
- 7:23Speaker 6: feel the grease or your makeup is sort of breaking up, separating, separating.
- 7:30Speaker 4: And I mean really separating. Then you are oily.
- 7:35Speaker 6: Some people who are quite oily, they'll have it all
- 7:38Speaker 6: over their face and.
- 7:39Speaker 4: It'll be on their chin, it'll be on their cheeks,
- 7:41Speaker 4: it'll be everywhere.
- 7:42Speaker 6: And you get a blotting sheet and you'll see it,
- 7:45Speaker 6: and you can actually the blotting paper and you can
- 7:47Speaker 6: see it.
- 7:48Speaker 4: So that's a really good way to tell as well.
- 7:50Speaker 6: But generally I would say most people are dehydrated or
- 7:54Speaker 6: normal out here.
- 7:56Speaker 4: And look, everyone's floody, dehydrated. I'm not gonna lie to here.
- 8:00Speaker 5: I was like right now, I'm like, I was like, shit,
- 8:04Speaker 5: the water break, well.
- 8:06Speaker 6: That's good for your muscles and organs, but your face
- 8:08Speaker 6: is going to take it from the mist and the
- 8:09Speaker 6: wholeronic acid and we need to lock it in with
- 8:11Speaker 6: a moisturizer.
- 8:13Speaker 5: Oh okay, so does drinking because I feel like drinking
- 8:16Speaker 5: water is one of the tips that we see really
- 8:19Speaker 5: commonly in terms of us skin and it's bullshit.
- 8:22Speaker 4: It's bullshit.
- 8:23Speaker 6: When we're at UNI, our lecturer told us this and
- 8:26Speaker 6: we literally we're all reacting the same and we couldn't
- 8:30Speaker 6: we didn't believe it. And then we were questioning her
- 8:33Speaker 6: because a lot of us were already working in industry
- 8:35Speaker 6: and we're like, I don't understand this, because at that point,
- 8:39Speaker 6: I think we were all thinking that we're lying to people.
- 8:42Speaker 2: My whole life has been alive.
- 8:44Speaker 6: Yeah, my whole life's a lie. But we do need
- 8:47Speaker 6: this from muscles and organs. Yes, we absolutely, this is
- 8:51Speaker 6: our fuel.
- 8:51Speaker 4: This is how we function.
- 8:53Speaker 6: But if you're talking about here where you see your
- 8:55Speaker 6: crepe on the stratum, cornemue and the outer layer, that's
- 8:59Speaker 6: not really going to get to it.
- 9:01Speaker 4: Does that make sense?
- 9:02Speaker 6: That's where people see the crepe, the fine line, the dehydration,
- 9:07Speaker 6: So that's where things are taken topically.
- 9:10Speaker 5: What are three tips you'd give someone who doesn't really
- 9:13Speaker 5: know much about skincare that aren't product focused.
- 9:16Speaker 4: Okay, sunscreen is essential.
- 9:20Speaker 6: If you wear it, it can reduce your risk of
- 9:23Speaker 6: skin cancer by forty percent.
- 9:25Speaker 4: Do it, do it, and do it regularly. Okay. I
- 9:31Speaker 4: don't want you to end up missing it, ear nose,
- 9:33Speaker 4: having a facial flat. Just fucking do it. Moist rice, simple,
- 9:41Speaker 4: head to toe.
- 9:44Speaker 5: I think we forget our body skincare routine. Like we
- 9:47Speaker 5: you know, we'll have a seven step face skin care routine,
- 9:51Speaker 5: but then when it comes to our body, we're like, yeah, fine,
- 9:54Speaker 5: it's me.
- 9:56Speaker 2: You need to kill me.
- 9:58Speaker 6: They're like, oh, thank god, and please cleanse your face.
- 10:03Speaker 6: I don't care what you've been told, what your skin
- 10:08Speaker 6: type is. Cleanse it morning and night. I have ex
- 10:11Speaker 6: my patients that are doing it with certain cleanses because
- 10:15Speaker 6: we need to get seamides or whatever into their skin.
- 10:19Speaker 4: Just do it.
- 10:20Speaker 2: What do you think about double cleansing?
- 10:22Speaker 4: Love it? Yes? Yeah, okay, only in the evening.
- 10:25Speaker 6: Okay, So most people will do an oil or a
- 10:28Speaker 6: balm first, yeah, and then some kind of foamy one
- 10:32Speaker 6: to some sort of foamy degree that suits them as
- 10:35Speaker 6: the second.
- 10:36Speaker 2: I've definitely started.
- 10:38Speaker 5: I think for me skin my skincare routine, I stick
- 10:41Speaker 5: to it when I'm doing it in the shower, like
- 10:43Speaker 5: I just know that because doing it over a sink,
- 10:46Speaker 5: I'm like, it literally looks like I've snapped the tap
- 10:48Speaker 5: off and I literally created the Trevi fountain in my bathroom.
- 10:56Speaker 2: And I'd be like, were, yeah, But I feel like if.
- 11:00Speaker 5: I put my products that you know, I need to
- 11:03Speaker 5: wash my face, and it's not like put it on
- 11:04Speaker 5: and leave it and I put them in the shower,
- 11:06Speaker 5: I will double cleanse like and it does really help.
- 11:08Speaker 5: So I feel like habit stacking. If you're like, oh,
- 11:10Speaker 5: I've got to do it twice, it really just like
- 11:13Speaker 5: takes a fuss out of it and really makes it
- 11:15Speaker 5: a simple process.
- 11:16Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly. So I've got a question for you. How
- 11:19Speaker 4: hot is your sharn when you're cleansing.
- 11:21Speaker 5: I don't want to answer that, and I think it's
- 11:24Speaker 5: actually really rude.
- 11:24Speaker 2: That you would ask a personal question. Okay, it's no.
- 11:29Speaker 4: Do you know what I am? Good?
- 11:30Speaker 5: Because I do like a hot shower and I get
- 11:33Speaker 5: X it was bad.
- 11:35Speaker 4: It's not bad. It's very very common.
- 11:38Speaker 2: It just it feels nice.
- 11:39Speaker 5: But with when I am washing my face, my face
- 11:42Speaker 5: skin is so sensitive to hot water that I will
- 11:44Speaker 5: like turn it to cold and then like wiggle out
- 11:48Speaker 5: and like Okay, we've got this, and then I'll like
- 11:52Speaker 5: dunk my face into yes, sabe because I don't like
- 11:56Speaker 5: the hot water on my face.
- 11:57Speaker 4: Okay, that's what we've got to do.
- 12:00Speaker 3: Okay, Yay, that's good because I remember we got a
- 12:03Speaker 3: facial or something once and we were saying that we
- 12:05Speaker 3: love to cleanse our face in the shower, and they
- 12:07Speaker 3: were like, that's not.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Really the best thing to do it. I was like,
- 12:11Speaker 2: I don't like it a temperature.
- 12:13Speaker 4: I don't like that judgment.
- 12:14Speaker 6: Right, every skincare everything we've heard, and I think this
- 12:19Speaker 6: is the difference between some.
- 12:21Speaker 4: People that work some places and some people that work
- 12:25Speaker 4: in health.
- 12:25Speaker 6: There is nothing that you could say to us that
- 12:27Speaker 6: would make us raise an eyebrow or for us to
- 12:30Speaker 6: go no, I don't like that. No, please don't do that.
- 12:36Speaker 4: That's the difference. When you come into.
- 12:38Speaker 6: A clinic clock where I work at Flawless, Right, we're
- 12:41Speaker 6: not like that. So the only time that we will
- 12:44Speaker 6: actually say you need to cease doing this is if
- 12:47Speaker 6: it's actually severely impacting your skin health.
- 12:52Speaker 4: And even in that moment, we don't make you feel
- 12:54Speaker 4: like you're a piece of shit or judge.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Yeah, thank you.
- 12:58Speaker 5: Sound's been thinking about It's that vasual for.
- 13:00Speaker 2: The last twenty years.
- 13:02Speaker 4: Just a single tear.
- 13:03Speaker 3: Yeah, every time I climbed to the show, I'm like,
- 13:04Speaker 3: I know a bad.
- 13:06Speaker 2: You like it though you're a bad girl. You're like,
- 13:09Speaker 2: the baby did a bad, bad thing.
- 13:12Speaker 3: You do a lot of myth busting across your channels,
- 13:16Speaker 3: which is amazing and we love it.
- 13:19Speaker 2: What are some common skincare.
- 13:21Speaker 3: And beauty myths that need to be busted?
- 13:23Speaker 5: Oh, other than the water one that was yeah, yeah,
- 13:27Speaker 5: I want to change my life.
- 13:29Speaker 6: Okay, So, no matter how much you see it on
- 13:32Speaker 6: social media, food is not botox.
- 13:36Speaker 4: Oh these flax seed.
- 13:38Speaker 6: Things, the bananas, I don't know what else they're saying,
- 13:42Speaker 6: and what are the crap they're spitting out there on
- 13:44Speaker 6: the street, babe, But is not botox?
- 13:47Speaker 4: Do we understand how that works?
- 13:49Speaker 6: Also, the biomomedic peptides and our geroline, it is not botox.
- 13:54Speaker 5: I have had botox, and I think that it is
- 13:58Speaker 5: kind of wild that we would even think that food
- 14:02Speaker 5: could be botox. I was like, if it could, that'd
- 14:05Speaker 5: be great because it means I don't have to get
- 14:07Speaker 5: needles in my face, But I don't think that's the key.
- 14:09Speaker 4: If it was, they would be doing it in the clinics.
- 14:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:14Speaker 6: So back to what I've said to you on the
- 14:17Speaker 6: botox skin care, Like ageroline and the biomomedic peptides, these
- 14:25Speaker 6: basically work by sort of very minimally inhibiting things that
- 14:30Speaker 6: go on at the neuromuscular junction, whereas botox will completely
- 14:34Speaker 6: inhibit things, or anti frinkle injections will completely inhibit things
- 14:39Speaker 6: at the neuromuscular junction. Right, if you are putting food
- 14:43Speaker 6: on your face, I will not say it again. It
- 14:48Speaker 6: is on your stratum, corne and bait, which is the
- 14:51Speaker 6: outermost layer of your skin. It is not hitting your muscle. Yeah,
- 14:55Speaker 6: I will not say it again. I'm like, why do
- 14:59Speaker 6: I feel like I would trouble.
- 15:03Speaker 4: A banana appeal is not by tox. Flax seed is
- 15:07Speaker 4: not botox.
- 15:09Speaker 2: I love it.
- 15:10Speaker 4: I'm sick of these videos going viral, but that's why.
- 15:13Speaker 5: They do go viral because it is so like I
- 15:18Speaker 5: don't know what the word would be, but it is
- 15:20Speaker 5: just so kind of far out of what you would
- 15:23Speaker 5: expect that it's hard to believe that that's and it
- 15:25Speaker 5: is hard to believe because it you know, as you're saying,
- 15:28Speaker 5: it isn't factually correct. That that's why these things do
- 15:30Speaker 5: go viol on. It is why you see like a
- 15:32Speaker 5: lot of misinformation online because people will say things just
- 15:36Speaker 5: to get views. And you know, that's why this episode
- 15:39Speaker 5: we really wanted to have you on because you do
- 15:41Speaker 5: have the education, you do have the knowledge that it's
- 15:44Speaker 5: like to cut through the bullshit and just yeah, straight up.
- 15:48Speaker 6: There is so much bullshit on social media that there
- 15:51Speaker 6: is a statistic and there are medical journals written about it.
- 15:54Speaker 6: Do you know how much misinformation there is? Two percent
- 15:58Speaker 6: of what you see on star social media is actually factual.
- 16:02Speaker 6: Whow that in skincare or just in general in general?
- 16:07Speaker 4: This goes for health, wo beauty.
- 16:11Speaker 6: Wellness, and I'm really proud to be a part of that.
- 16:15Speaker 2: That's lovely.
- 16:17Speaker 6: So the info on collagen as a skincare ingredient and
- 16:23Speaker 6: it actually making collagen in your skin, it's not going
- 16:27Speaker 6: to do it. So collagen is a skincare ingredient, it's
- 16:30Speaker 6: a really large molecule. So when we've got we talk
- 16:33Speaker 6: about daltons in skincare. So daltons are basically think of
- 16:37Speaker 6: like a size, so it has things have to be
- 16:40Speaker 6: under five hundred doltons for it to go down into
- 16:43Speaker 6: the dermal layer where you want things to work. Collagen
- 16:46Speaker 6: as a molecule is a really large Dulton like, it's huge.
- 16:50Speaker 4: Massive.
- 16:51Speaker 6: Collagen in skincare is not going to make collagen at all,
- 16:55Speaker 6: and it just sits on the surface of the skin
- 16:56Speaker 6: and it makes it plump, juicy, and hydrated. So if
- 16:58Speaker 6: you're looking at skincare with collagen as an ingredient in
- 17:00Speaker 6: it to put it on your face, it's going to
- 17:02Speaker 6: do nothing but make it look plump, jewy, and then
- 17:03Speaker 6: it'll escape. Collagen in supplements, the data is inconclusive, okay,
- 17:09Speaker 6: and it is a massive, multi million dollar industry, And
- 17:14Speaker 6: even at our clinic we get some of this data
- 17:18Speaker 6: and we look over it.
- 17:19Speaker 4: I'm constantly looking at medical journals on it.
- 17:22Speaker 6: I'm not the only person of a clinical background that's
- 17:24Speaker 6: talking about this online. So the reason the data is
- 17:29Speaker 6: inconclusive is because the sample sizes are small. It's wishy washy,
- 17:35Speaker 6: and you can't control what someone is eating. What I
- 17:39Speaker 6: can say about the data is that when you consume
- 17:42Speaker 6: a collagen supplement, when that molecule hits it's been shown
- 17:46Speaker 6: to hit the villi or the little like little wavy
- 17:50Speaker 6: things inside our stomach lining. They've been shown to improve
- 17:54Speaker 6: that villi in the stomach lining, Okay, and help build
- 17:58Speaker 6: that up because it's the first frickin' place it's hitting. Yeah, right,
- 18:04Speaker 6: this tiny little sup yeah, is then being taken through
- 18:08Speaker 6: our digestive system, the intestines, the liver, and then we're
- 18:13Speaker 6: pissing it out. I've worked with multiple doctors and multiple
- 18:18Speaker 6: doctors and they literally call it expensive piss.
- 18:21Speaker 5: Oh my god, I've heard that about a lot of vitamins.
- 18:24Speaker 6: Actually, yes, so it won't like the water reach your skin.
- 18:30Speaker 5: That is wild, Yeah, because I think to have inconclusive data,
- 18:36Speaker 5: as you've just said, on something.
- 18:38Speaker 2: That is a multimillion dollar business is just wild.
- 18:41Speaker 5: But I mean you could probably the list is so
- 18:43Speaker 5: long of like products that const category.
- 18:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:48Speaker 5: We did have a question from our community and something
- 18:51Speaker 5: that a lot of us can probably relate to myself
- 18:53Speaker 5: included right now.
- 18:55Speaker 2: But do you have any advice.
- 18:56Speaker 5: On how we can deal with hormonal breakouts?
- 18:59Speaker 2: Is there anything?
- 19:01Speaker 4: Please? Please God, babe, We've all been there.
- 19:09Speaker 6: Yeah, Okay, hormonal acne, Yes, a hormonal breakout hormonal acne
- 19:15Speaker 6: is very, very different to hormonal breakout. But if we're
- 19:17Speaker 6: just talking like one like deep mo fo, yeah that's.
- 19:22Speaker 2: What they call me.
- 19:28Speaker 6: What I like, if you are currently using a retinoid
- 19:33Speaker 6: and comfortably using a retinoid, you can cleanse your face,
- 19:37Speaker 6: get an acidic toner, maybe a five percent glycolic acid,
- 19:41Speaker 6: and just spot treat it. Like just get just get
- 19:44Speaker 6: a little bit like a cotton tip, put it in
- 19:46Speaker 6: a bit of five percent glycolic acid, and then put
- 19:50Speaker 6: your retinoid on. Don't overdo it, don't keep going, babe, Okay,
- 19:57Speaker 6: you can do that. Another thing I quite fancy is
- 20:01Speaker 6: a spot treatment, so you could do the same thing,
- 20:04Speaker 6: So we can put that aside.
- 20:05Speaker 4: That's one option.
- 20:06Speaker 6: Another option is cleanse your face, get a spot treatment.
- 20:10Speaker 6: So like there's lots out there that have slicilic acid
- 20:15Speaker 6: in it or slicilicu sysinic acid, so medicate have one
- 20:19Speaker 6: called SOS and that's got like a two percent solicilic
- 20:21Speaker 6: acid in it. You do a little bit of it,
- 20:25Speaker 6: put your retinoid on, and then a little bit of
- 20:27Speaker 6: the spot treatment over the top, or do your moisturizer
- 20:30Speaker 6: and then the spot treatment over the top.
- 20:32Speaker 5: So with the spot treatment, would you say to look
- 20:34Speaker 5: for a product that has sal silic acid and.
- 20:35Speaker 6: Yes, yeah, okay, please again, don't keep going.
- 20:40Speaker 2: How often would you say to do it?
- 20:41Speaker 5: So say like I have this wopper on my gin
- 20:43Speaker 5: at the moment, right, and so I'm like, okay, I'm
- 20:45Speaker 5: going to do the spot treatment and then how I
- 20:50Speaker 5: guess it kind of depends on how your skin reacts
- 20:52Speaker 5: to it, right, Yes, would you say like two nights
- 20:55Speaker 5: and then assess.
- 20:56Speaker 6: Yes, and then leave it because what will happen is
- 20:58Speaker 6: you'll start to dry out and then you'll makeup on
- 21:00Speaker 6: it and it'll just look like like a little dry, flakyness
- 21:05Speaker 6: and not very nice and it'll be harder to cover.
- 21:07Speaker 6: Or just do one and see how you go. It
- 21:09Speaker 6: also depends on what kind of breakout it is.
- 21:12Speaker 5: Yeah, if it's a nighttime routine, is a spot treatment
- 21:15Speaker 5: the last step in that routine?
- 21:17Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 21:17Speaker 6: So some people can do it over the top of
- 21:19Speaker 6: a moisturizer, depending on how thick it is. Some people
- 21:22Speaker 6: can do it over the top of the retinoid and
- 21:24Speaker 6: then moisturize and then or go back in with a
- 21:26Speaker 6: little bit of retinoid over the top again. It depends
- 21:29Speaker 6: on your strength of your retinoid. It depends on the
- 21:31Speaker 6: strength of your skin, your barrier, the size of the mofo,
- 21:35Speaker 6: it depends on a holiday. Yeah, it depends on like
- 21:39Speaker 6: a lot of these things. I did a video where
- 21:41Speaker 6: I extracted mine I saw, Yes, But and it works
- 21:45Speaker 6: because what actually happens is the retinoid eats a little
- 21:47Speaker 6: bit of the acid, so it brings it down unless
- 21:50Speaker 6: you're using a encapsulate of retinol, which it won't, and
- 21:53Speaker 6: it makes it very, very spicy.
- 21:56Speaker 4: So but you just want to do it as a
- 21:58Speaker 4: spot treatment. We don't want to do.
- 22:00Speaker 6: Whole freaking chin because you'll impair your barrier, So you
- 22:03Speaker 6: have to be very very careful about it. Yeah, and
- 22:05Speaker 6: it's only for a seasoned retinoid user. Yes makes sense, Yeah, yeah,
- 22:11Speaker 6: because then you'll end up with an impaired barrier.
- 22:13Speaker 4: But it does work very very wed.
- 22:14Speaker 5: I go back to the basics, back product products, but
- 22:19Speaker 5: foundation products.
- 22:20Speaker 6: Something to understand is retinoid's actually is So you know
- 22:24Speaker 6: how when we drink we're hung over the next day.
- 22:26Speaker 3: No, No, I don't know.
- 22:30Speaker 4: Anything about that. We all know about it.
- 22:33Speaker 6: Retoids their hangover comes in four days later. Oh, the shedding.
- 22:39Speaker 6: So if you've been going, oh, I'm getting on the
- 22:42Speaker 6: the retinoids tonight, the retinoids the next night, the night
- 22:45Speaker 6: after that, the night after that, babe, you've got a
- 22:48Speaker 6: lot of shedding building up.
- 22:51Speaker 2: And it starts at peeling.
- 22:52Speaker 6: That's why it starts peeling. So by day four you're
- 22:54Speaker 6: only seeing the first night. Do you get what I mean?
- 22:57Speaker 6: So it's like building up you're not experiencing your hangover
- 23:00Speaker 6: four days later.
- 23:02Speaker 4: Makes sense.
- 23:03Speaker 5: Yeah, imagine like not drinking for three nights and then
- 23:06Speaker 5: you get hung over and you're like.
- 23:07Speaker 4: What the fuck?
- 23:08Speaker 2: You're like, where comes from?
- 23:10Speaker 5: Yeah? That makes sense though, because I think I've definitely
- 23:13Speaker 5: made that mistake, and I've you know, we've all done
- 23:15Speaker 5: on a bit heavy on active ingredients, and then like
- 23:19Speaker 5: maybe used a turning mist on my face and then
- 23:21Speaker 5: I was like.
- 23:22Speaker 2: Oh my god, I look like cobblo. Like I was like, shit,
- 23:26Speaker 2: what's happened? And I knew exactly what happened, but I was.
- 23:28Speaker 5: Like, ah, but yeah, I think that's that's really good
- 23:32Speaker 5: insight to have, is knowing that what you said that
- 23:35Speaker 5: hormonal breakouts and hormonal acne two different things. So what
- 23:39Speaker 5: if someone came to you and they were struggling with
- 23:41Speaker 5: hormonal acne, what would you recommend for them? I know
- 23:44Speaker 5: it would probably depend on, you know, certain factors in
- 23:47Speaker 5: their lifestyle, but in your experience, what have you seen
- 23:50Speaker 5: be quite helpful for people.
- 23:51Speaker 6: So we're really lucky at my clinic at Fullest Rejuvenation,
- 23:55Speaker 6: we've got a laser that is one of the first
- 23:58Speaker 6: lasers in my absolutely amazing that actually is target sebam.
- 24:05Speaker 6: So lasers work to target pigment redness things like that,
- 24:11Speaker 6: and it's looking as an alternative for roakitane.
- 24:15Speaker 2: Oh that's wow.
- 24:17Speaker 6: So we've never had, like I've been doing this for
- 24:20Speaker 6: nearly ten years now, we've never had a laser to
- 24:22Speaker 6: specifically target seed them.
- 24:23Speaker 2: So people who don't know what is sebam.
- 24:25Speaker 4: That's oil. That's the oil that gets stuck.
- 24:28Speaker 6: So when we talk acne, you've got a lot of
- 24:31Speaker 6: things going on and hormonal acne, people often forget this component,
- 24:34Speaker 6: which is androgens. So that's the male hormone that's causing it.
- 24:39Speaker 6: So that's why often people end up on trying other
- 24:42Speaker 6: things like spur lactone or the peel and all sorts
- 24:45Speaker 6: of things like that. Trying to control it. We're trying
- 24:47Speaker 6: to control oil flow, right, You've also got this overproduction
- 24:51Speaker 6: of oil happening. You've got hyperkeretonization, which all these skin
- 24:54Speaker 6: cells just flooding into the follicle and then it's getting blocked,
- 24:57Speaker 6: and then you're getting inflammation and the bacteria of So
- 25:00Speaker 6: you've got all these other things, but then you're forgetting
- 25:02Speaker 6: about you know, the androgens, which is the hormoneal component.
- 25:06Speaker 6: And acne is not just one breakout here and there.
- 25:09Speaker 6: Acne is multiple. Yeah, you're waking up with it more.
- 25:13Speaker 4: Than just one random one you're getting.
- 25:15Speaker 6: We actually have like a chart that we use to say, okay,
- 25:19Speaker 6: you've got a number of them. So I think a
- 25:21Speaker 6: lot of people think that they've got acne and they
- 25:23Speaker 6: don't and they're just waking up with a spot here
- 25:25Speaker 6: and there. People who have acne are actually waking up
- 25:27Speaker 6: with multiple friends on their face every day.
- 25:30Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:31Speaker 5: I think we were having this conversation a couple of
- 25:34Speaker 5: weeks ago and just saying how we probably need to
- 25:37Speaker 5: be a bit more careful about how we speak about
- 25:39Speaker 5: askin and when we call it acne, and in comparison
- 25:43Speaker 5: to you know, people that do really actually struggle with
- 25:45Speaker 5: severe acne and complaining about our pimples and saying that
- 25:49Speaker 5: we have acne when in reality we don't. And how
- 25:52Speaker 5: that can you know, affect and feel for people that
- 25:55Speaker 5: do struggle with it.
- 25:57Speaker 2: And I just think, yeah, we could probably be a
- 25:59Speaker 2: little bit more careful.
- 26:00Speaker 6: Yeah, and now we discern, but I do understand, Like
- 26:03Speaker 6: it's not I get that if someone wakes up and
- 26:07Speaker 6: I understand all of it, and it's okay to feel like,
- 26:10Speaker 6: oh my god, my face looks like shit today and
- 26:12Speaker 6: I don't know what I've done.
- 26:14Speaker 4: It's all.
- 26:14Speaker 6: It's okay to have your own insecurity and feel that relative,
- 26:17Speaker 6: it's all relative.
- 26:18Speaker 2: Okay.
- 26:19Speaker 5: Well, we wanted to finish with a quick little game
- 26:24Speaker 5: of save or splurge, where we're going to read you
- 26:26Speaker 5: out a product and you're going to tell us whether
- 26:28Speaker 5: you think it's a save so to save on the
- 26:31Speaker 5: price and you know, go for one that's maybe a
- 26:33Speaker 5: little bit more affordable, or if you think it's a
- 26:35Speaker 5: splurge and to put maybe a couple more pennies towards Okay,
- 26:39Speaker 5: this product.
- 26:40Speaker 2: Okay, save or splurge cleanser.
- 26:43Speaker 4: You can save, Okay.
- 26:46Speaker 6: There are so many affordable cleanses at your chemist and
- 26:50Speaker 6: things like that. But if you do want to splurge,
- 26:52Speaker 6: you can. But honestly, you can get a great cleanser
- 26:58Speaker 6: as a chemist.
- 26:59Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 26:59Speaker 2: Is there a hero cleansa that you really like?
- 27:04Speaker 6: I can't say that there's a hero one, but I
- 27:07Speaker 6: often like with the skins that are presented to me
- 27:10Speaker 6: in clinic because there's so many impaired barriers, your seat
- 27:13Speaker 6: to fills, your ceravs.
- 27:16Speaker 4: Yeah, things like that.
- 27:19Speaker 6: Probably what I often have to recommend because there isn't
- 27:23Speaker 6: a lot else I can sort of give.
- 27:25Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, okay, save a splurge chemical exfoliant.
- 27:29Speaker 4: I don't often recommend them.
- 27:31Speaker 3: Oh really, so you would say nil, that's the same
- 27:36Speaker 3: because you don't want to know, because I'm often like,
- 27:40Speaker 3: we prescribe retinoids.
- 27:41Speaker 4: Yeah, I suppose you could say that's yeah, yeah, but.
- 27:46Speaker 2: So do you think a physical exfolling is better than
- 27:48Speaker 2: a chemical exfollient.
- 27:49Speaker 6: Or do you well, I suppose i'd said a glycolic acid.
- 27:53Speaker 4: Just then, the ones that I do recommend, they're a splurge.
- 27:56Speaker 5: Yeah, I think that's fair enough, and I think that's
- 27:58Speaker 5: typically what would be the consensus too.
- 28:02Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely, Yeah, Okay, save or splurge SBF.
- 28:06Speaker 4: Save babe, I don't really care.
- 28:08Speaker 6: Just get the fluff and thing on your face.
- 28:11Speaker 2: I knew you were going to be.
- 28:13Speaker 6: It's like a mineral chemical whatever I usually my minerals.
- 28:17Speaker 6: I'm like giving that, you know, recommending that to people
- 28:20Speaker 6: with pigmentary ordyschromea malasma.
- 28:22Speaker 4: But just get it on your fluff and face.
- 28:24Speaker 5: Yeah, because doesn't Australia have really strict guidelines very to
- 28:28Speaker 5: be able to produce an SBF product, So you know
- 28:32Speaker 5: that whatever the price is, that product has gone through
- 28:35Speaker 5: quite an amount of testing.
- 28:37Speaker 2: That's it's going to be.
- 28:38Speaker 4: Up to standard.
- 28:40Speaker 6: It is insane that to get an SBF on the
- 28:43Speaker 6: market I kind of even tell you what an SBF
- 28:46Speaker 6: has to go through to get it here, Like a
- 28:48Speaker 6: lot of people want to get their spfs made in
- 28:51Speaker 6: other countries or that they often will have the mate here.
- 28:55Speaker 4: Like it's insane.
- 28:56Speaker 6: Our legislation here and TGA guidelines for SBF is insane,
- 29:01Speaker 6: which is amazing.
- 29:02Speaker 2: Yes, save us splurge hyaluronic acid.
- 29:06Speaker 3: You can save mat save us splurge, Retino splurge.
- 29:13Speaker 2: I thought that was going to be.
- 29:14Speaker 6: It's always the one thing I say, if you want
- 29:17Speaker 6: to invest in something, invest in a retinoid and invest
- 29:20Speaker 6: in a vitamin c M.
- 29:21Speaker 5: So we spoke about how retinoids have like the four
- 29:24Speaker 5: day hangover.
- 29:26Speaker 2: For someone who after listening to this.
- 29:28Speaker 5: Is going to go out and invest in a retinoid,
- 29:30Speaker 5: how would that you recommend they introduce it into their skincare.
- 29:33Speaker 6: I really think if you can, first of all, good
- 29:38Speaker 6: if you understand your skin time, because there are so
- 29:40Speaker 6: many different bases. So there are creams, there are oils,
- 29:43Speaker 6: things like that. But if you know what you're doing, great.
- 29:47Speaker 6: On my and this is not like a promo thing.
- 29:50Speaker 6: This is a safety thing. On my TikTok in my
- 29:52Speaker 6: bio because I can't tell you how much retinoid dermatitis
- 29:55Speaker 6: I've seen over my career. There's a tab called Retreat
- 29:59Speaker 6: and I talk about different skin types that can use it.
- 30:01Speaker 6: This is purely a safety thing, right, Yes, I don't
- 30:04Speaker 6: want people to hurt themselves with it. So you can
- 30:08Speaker 6: go and look at that if you need help. If
- 30:11Speaker 6: you want to introduce a retinoid, for the first week,
- 30:13Speaker 6: you use it every third night. For the second week
- 30:16Speaker 6: you use it every second night, and for the third
- 30:18Speaker 6: week you're on it every night.
- 30:19Speaker 4: Okay.
- 30:20Speaker 6: It's really important to use the right cleanser because you
- 30:23Speaker 6: don't want to overstrip your skin. And it's really important
- 30:25Speaker 6: to have the right barrier and a good moisturiser, and
- 30:28Speaker 6: don't use any other acids or anything else that's going
- 30:31Speaker 6: to overstrip your barrier during that time for at least
- 30:33Speaker 6: a month.
- 30:34Speaker 5: Okay, so gentle cleanser and then the calendar you basically
- 30:39Speaker 5: just said correct, and then don't use any other active ingredients.
- 30:42Speaker 2: Does that include vitamin C?
- 30:44Speaker 6: Vitamin C is okay? But some people, if their barrier
- 30:47Speaker 6: is really impaired and they're using an allascorbic acid, it
- 30:49Speaker 6: will act like an acid, so in the morning they'll
- 30:52Speaker 6: put it on and it will burn if you are shedding.
- 30:54Speaker 4: Pull back.
- 30:55Speaker 5: Okay, I'm taking notes. Yeah, I am taking notes right now.
- 30:59Speaker 2: Okay, save us word moisturizer.
- 31:02Speaker 5: Say I like, how many saves away?
- 31:06Speaker 2: Yes, yes, we want it.
- 31:08Speaker 6: Save You don't need to spend a lot of money
- 31:10Speaker 6: on a moisturizer. And often most of the time in clinic,
- 31:13Speaker 6: when people come in with an impaired barrier, we're like,
- 31:16Speaker 6: for now, do this, But eventually they get there and
- 31:19Speaker 6: they're like, oh, want all.
- 31:20Speaker 4: The good skin care.
- 31:21Speaker 6: Yeah, but for now, we're just trying to repair your barrier.
- 31:24Speaker 6: So often we're just doing the very basic routine.
- 31:27Speaker 5: What you've spoken a bit about impaired barriers in this episode,
- 31:30Speaker 5: what other signs someone has an impaired barrier and they
- 31:33Speaker 5: should maybe come to you.
- 31:35Speaker 4: So an impaired barrier is where your skin is.
- 31:38Speaker 6: It can be dry, can be showing lots of breakouts
- 31:42Speaker 6: and acne, can be very very creepy. It can have redness,
- 31:46Speaker 6: it can have flakiness in certain areas. You can put
- 31:50Speaker 6: products on your skin and it's burning and you're not
- 31:52Speaker 6: sure why. You're trialing lots of products to try and
- 31:55Speaker 6: get it to where it needs to be, but nothing
- 31:57Speaker 6: is working. It feels height. It can even be splitting open.
- 32:02Speaker 6: It could be bleeding, it could be pussing, it could
- 32:06Speaker 6: be cracking, it could be all sorts of things and
- 32:08Speaker 6: you just can't get it to where it needs to be.
- 32:12Speaker 3: That would feel really frustrating, but it's interesting to know
- 32:17Speaker 3: that the symptoms.
- 32:19Speaker 2: Are so varied.
- 32:20Speaker 3: So I think that's why it's so important to go
- 32:22Speaker 3: speak to a professional.
- 32:24Speaker 5: Yeah, I think, yeah, I think that's the splurge to
- 32:28Speaker 5: be honest, like going and speaking to a professional. If
- 32:31Speaker 5: you know, you've been trying for a really long time
- 32:33Speaker 5: to figure out what's going on with your skin and
- 32:34Speaker 5: you just can't figure it out and it's really affecting
- 32:37Speaker 5: your mental health, the splurge is to go and you know,
- 32:39Speaker 5: see someone.
- 32:40Speaker 6: Yeah, if if you're in discomfort, just get to a dermatologist,
- 32:44Speaker 6: Just go into a find a general clinician in your area.
- 32:48Speaker 6: Just find someone to help you, because the longer you wait,
- 32:51Speaker 6: the worse it gets.
- 32:52Speaker 5: Yeah, that's so good, and thank you so much for
- 32:54Speaker 5: joining us. But you had some really exciting news that
- 32:57Speaker 5: you told us before the start of this episode. So
- 33:00Speaker 5: are we allowed to share?
- 33:01Speaker 4: Yes, we are allowed to share it.
- 33:02Speaker 2: Hey tell us.
- 33:03Speaker 6: Okay, I never thought i'd be here. I can't believe
- 33:06Speaker 6: this is happening. But this week I filmed a pilot
- 33:09Speaker 6: episode of a new TV show series web series called
- 33:13Speaker 6: Glow and Tale, where I'm basically going into people's homes,
- 33:18Speaker 6: rating their bathroom cabinets and seeing what skincare they're using
- 33:23Speaker 6: and how I can actually help them, and then taking
- 33:25Speaker 6: them shopping.
- 33:26Speaker 2: Oh my god.
- 33:28Speaker 6: So it is definitely for people who are on a
- 33:32Speaker 6: budget and I just you never know where you end up, babe.
- 33:37Speaker 4: Oh my gosh, I congratulation breaks every frickin' day.
- 33:41Speaker 2: Yeah, when is it going to launch?
- 33:43Speaker 4: Do you know yet? Soon?
- 33:45Speaker 6: Just wake out for the pink scrubs.
- 33:47Speaker 2: Oh that is so amazing.
- 33:51Speaker 5: And for any of the chicks that aren't already following you,
- 33:54Speaker 5: where can they find you?
- 33:55Speaker 6: So you can find me on TikTok it's driven by
- 33:57Speaker 6: beauty and on Instagram it's also driven by beauty.
- 34:01Speaker 2: Amazing. Thank you so much. That was so insightful and
- 34:04Speaker 2: so digestible.
- 34:06Speaker 5: Like I think the way you speak about skincare is
- 34:08Speaker 5: really easy to understand in a world where it can
- 34:12Speaker 5: be quite overcomplicated. So thank you so much for your
- 34:14Speaker 5: time today. It was an absolute pleasure and I've learnt
- 34:16Speaker 5: so so much.
- 34:18Speaker 2: Yeah, thank you so much. That was amazing.
- 34:20Speaker 4: Thank you so much for having me, And.
- 34:21Speaker 3: Thanks to you chicks for having us in the ear holes.
- 34:24Speaker 3: We love to be here.
- 34:25Speaker 4: A little bit.
- 34:26Speaker 2: Bye chicks, Bye bye,
