- 0:00Okay, so good evening everyone. Today we're going to speak about three very very special topics and we're going to start with talking about the yard site, the passing date of our mother Rakhili, Rakhili main, one of the matriarchs. We're going to talk about a little bit of the parasha, what Abraham and Sarah, and on a personal note, today is the 12th year yard site, passing university of my grandmother, the grandmother of blessed memory, that's the way
- 0:30exactly 12 years ago, on this day, the 14th of Hoshban. I was very close with her. She was also very
- 0:36young, very beautiful. She passed away at the age of 61. So this was, you know, a bit of a, only
- 0:41now that I'm older, I get how young that is. You know, as a kid, you realize, oh, it's like,
- 0:47she was my grandmother. So you don't realize that the example of the tragedy, we're going to try
- 0:52to see a little bit about the hill in Saran, our matchbox, and then I'll try to connect it
- 0:57on a personal level with my grandmother made that she will be her honor and her blessing.
- 1:06We see here in the back on the picture the grave site of Rachel Iminu. We have three
- 1:15fathers and four mothers, we're going to go through that shortly, but this is the grave,
- 1:21the tomb of Rachel, one of the iconic sites in Israel. It's about half an hour
- 1:27drive from Jerusalem if you never visited. This is a very holy site. We have Hebron where
- 1:32that's where most of our fathers Abraham, Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rivka are all buried.
- 1:38Rachel is the outsider. She was buried technically outside of the original territory of the land
- 1:45of Israel on the path on the way to the land of Israel. Yaakov buried it there. Hey, welcome.
- 1:57Yaakov buried her there on the way, and I want to show you something very fascinating, the
- 2:04word Israel. Israel, you know some Hebrew? Basic alif bet, right? Let's try to find
- 2:13the three fathers and the four mothers in that letter. Which is our first father? Who
- 2:20was our first patriarch Abraham do we have Abraham then we have who's the
- 2:27second one it's hot and who's the third one Jacob very good Jacob so Abraham
- 2:37it's hockey a coven our mothers Sarah Rivka Rahul and there okay the word
- 2:46Israel in this includes the Jewish people has all of the seven names. Avraham, Itchak, Yaakov,
- 2:54Sarah, Rivka, Rachel and Leah. Now all six out of seven are buried in Me'aret, Amachpela.
- 3:02One of them is buried outside of it. Why so? Why so? Because, and we're going to see soon
- 3:10from the source from inside, when Yaakov was on his way back to the land of Israel escaping
- 3:18from his brother, Rahel suddenly passed away. What do you mean suddenly? She was giving birth
- 3:26to her second son, Benjamin Bin Yameen, and during childbirth she passed away tragically,
- 3:33you know time of labor is a dangerous time and she passed away surprisingly. Now it was almost
- 3:41expected from Yaakov to carry his wife to the family funeral to the place where the rest of
- 3:51the family was about a day walk away or two day walk away, not a big deal. In those days
- 3:57people used to do it. Furthermore, Jacob, before he passes away, he tells his son, Yosef,
- 4:05don't bury me outside of Israel. Don't bury me in Egypt. Please bring me to the family property
- 4:11in Hevron. Yosef turns back to him and almost like tells him, Father, you didn't do this to my
- 4:18mom. You didn't do this to Rachel, right? You buried her on the way, on the side of the road.
- 4:24why so? He doesn't like take revenge and tell him, oh I'm not gonna do it but before he has a chance
- 4:32to get upset, Jacob kind of a clears it and let's take a little dive in there to understand
- 4:38what exactly happened and we'll understand how special Rahel actually stands out, how much the
- 4:44motherhood of Rahel, the love, the unconditional bondage between mother and child is gonna be
- 4:50expressed particularly through her. So let's start with Elisa, source number
- 4:55four. Now I changed a little bit of things, so just bear with me through the numbers.
- 5:01Okay? We'll start with source number four. Go ahead.
- 5:04The days of Israel are real near for him to die, and he called his son Joseph and said to him,
- 5:09if I have found favor in your eyes, please do not bury me in Egypt. Jacob said to Joseph,
- 5:15As for me, when I came from Fadah, Rachel died, not Rahel, died only in the land of Canaan,
- 5:22along the way, while there was still some distance to go before reaching Ifrath.
- 5:27I buried her there along the road to Ifrath, which is Bethlehem.
- 5:32So Bethlehem, which is for the questions, that's an important city, but for the Jews,
- 5:36it's not less of an important city. Why is it important city for us? Because that is the
- 5:40of Rachel. Jacob tells Yosef, I didn't do it randomly. I buried it there on purpose because
- 5:50it's outside in the outskirts of Jerusalem. Why so? When Jewish people will be exiled.
- 5:57They will be exiled. We know that there's going to be a destroying of the temple and Jews will
- 6:03run to Babylon, being tied up in handcuffs, they are going to walk by and they are going
- 6:11to see the graves of the righteous.
- 6:15On the way to Babylon, crying, mourning their destruction, they are going to be able to
- 6:19stop there and cry for their mother.
- 6:22And cry to their mother, tell her, please make sure they will come back.
- 6:26And God promises us, the Prophet tells us, that in the merit of Rachel's dedication,
- 6:32will leave her kids alone in exile that she wanted to remain with us outside of
- 6:38Israel outside of the territory and outside of her comfort zone Jewish people
- 6:44when will come back from Babylonia and so it happened when the Jewish people
- 6:49came back from Babylonia to reconstruct the temple in the days of Ezra if you
- 6:55know some Bible stories if not then just what we'll take it like that then
- 6:59And when they come back they pass through Qabah al-Khal again and then becomes a sightseeing
- 7:04in the Jewish history.
- 7:05This is one of the most famous buildings actually in Israel today.
- 7:09It's a little hard to get here because it's an Arab city.
- 7:15It's actually a Christian Arab city but there's a lot of conflict around it because it's
- 7:19very politically, a lot of strings attached because it's the international birthplace
- 7:25of the founder of Christianity.
- 7:29This is also in the A territory of the of the Palestinians, and it's a Jewish holy site.
- 7:39So there's a lot of walls, things, if you ever went through there, you need to have
- 7:43like a secure car and go through there.
- 7:46Yeah, I've actually been there.
- 7:47Yeah.
- 7:48So it's a very special holy place.
- 7:49You don't see that little.
- 7:50Yeah.
- 7:51It's a drawing.
- 7:52It is a drawing.
- 7:53Obviously it's kind of a picture.
- 7:54This is what it looked like before, you know, this is whatever.
- 7:58it's the same as we as this is this is the iconic view of whoever knows the
- 8:03place this is when you because when you drive between all the cement walls but
- 8:13if you look before the same walls we're there that's exactly what it looks like
- 8:16and others in this that's the first thing I found online from a lot bigger
- 8:22What?
- 8:23In person.
- 8:24In person is bigger.
- 8:25Okay, possible.
- 8:26No, no, I mean like it looks just like science-wise.
- 8:30Okay, not such a big grave site.
- 8:33Now, why did she pass away so young?
- 8:36Many times we ask ourselves a question.
- 8:38Why did someone pass away so young?
- 8:40She passed away at 40 years old.
- 8:42Why did that happen?
- 8:44That sometimes we don't ask the question.
- 8:46Sometimes it's okay to try to, you know,
- 8:48And see some sources, especially if they have some kind of Jewish basis.
- 8:55So there's a parallel story that happened some 10 years earlier than that, where Rachel's
- 9:00father chasing after Jacob tells him, why did you escape from?
- 9:05You know the little story?
- 9:08Jacob was married to the two daughters of Levan, and then he accumulated wealth.
- 9:15Levan tells him like you're taking over properties, you know he tricked him with his wives.
- 9:21We can dig into that story.
- 9:24Long story short, Jacob picks up all his wives, all his 12-11 children back then, and his
- 9:30sheep.
- 9:31Well, and this appears overnight.
- 9:33Runs away.
- 9:34Leaves far away.
- 9:36Rachel, she knew her father was an idol worshiper, so when they escaped, she made a quiet
- 9:43the detour, went to her father's office and stole his mini idols, she wanted to be a good
- 9:50daughter, kind of like help her father become a little closer to God, so she stole his
- 9:55idols, she hid them in her trunk or her camel, she had like special bags in the camel and
- 10:04they were wandering through the desert, her father is chasing after them, catching on
- 10:10to them, like, why did you guys escape? And more than this, why did you steal my
- 10:14gods? Who are you to steal my gods? Jacob says, I don't know, I didn't do
- 10:19anything. So Lavan starts searching everywhere, and Jacob tells him, you know
- 10:25what? I'm cursing, I'm gonna make a curse, that whoever will find the gods, he
- 10:31shall not live. Like, you know, like, he didn't know that his wife was the one
- 10:38stealing them, but Jacob said that cannot curse. Number two, Rachel was disrespectful to her father.
- 10:43He didn't end up finding it, but the reward for honoring the parents and the 10 commandments is what?
- 10:50Non-livity, the Torah tells us only a father and mother, so you should have a long life.
- 10:57And what happened here? Rachel was disrespectful to her father. Number two, Jacob was almost
- 11:03are cursing. So we see something very fascinating. You should be respectful to your parents,
- 11:11even though they're not conducting right, even though they might be either worshipers and have a
- 11:16different path than you, they respect that you owe them is unconditioning. Number one,
- 11:22number two, we need to be extra extra careful about every word we're saying. Every word we're
- 11:28saying even though who cares like I didn't know I was just saying that like you
- 11:35know like screw you then we see some people say so many curses today you
- 11:40know we should be dead like what do you mean like what watch the way you're
- 11:44talking because it obviously has a great impact this was a drop of outreach
- 11:51What do we see so special about Rachel? Rachel was a good broken neighbor. So this was Rachel.
- 12:02Rachel was so special, Rachel was so dedicated and she was ready to almost like be buried on the
- 12:08side of the road just to be there for her kids when she needs them. Now I want to talk about
- 12:14Sarah because this is relevant to this week's portion and in general when we talk about
- 12:18matriarchs and something that we should all kind of like try to learn from that.
- 12:22Okay, so let's start first. Questions about l'khil or reflections about l'khil's life and
- 12:29message. Is the caveat of like respect your parents being helped written about it?
- 12:41So it doesn't, it doesn't say it as a punishment called forbid. Suddenly if you
- 12:46don't respect them it's supposed to happen the opposite but we do, there is a
- 12:52a lot of laws that make it a very tangible commandment. Like it's very clear
- 12:58that you're not allowed to hold your parents by first name, you're not allowed to sit in their
- 13:02place, you're not allowed to contradict them publicly, even if they embarrass you
- 13:08publicly, you can curse them or anything. There's a story about the
- 13:12nanzhu, Ashdod. His name was Dawah Benetina. He was the mayor of Ashdod. We're talking
- 13:17about talk about Talmud times. And his mother once came into the city hall and
- 13:24started screaming at him about something stupid. Then she took her shoe and started
- 13:29hitting him in front of everyone, but he didn't say a word. And then she dropped
- 13:34her sandal while hitting him. He bent down, picked it up and gave it back to him.
- 13:39And the khamim say how great could we learn from even from the Nanju how much
- 13:44he honored his parents how much more so we do that are commanded on this now it's a
- 13:51lot of topic but this is this is a really one of the fundamental
- 13:55commandments in the Torah if that's if there was a question there was so like
- 14:03we couldn't make a lot of things to make it you know tangible and I'm not
- 14:09talking about extreme cases of use you know there are things console with
- 14:14your local rabbi about specific cases because you know things happen and
- 14:20sometimes there is a command where you could like cut ties but many times this
- 14:25is important to know. Let's talk about Sarah. I know many people they fake
- 14:35life outside of what really is happening inside. Many times life is rough
- 14:42Sometimes you ask, how's it going? Oh, great. How's life? Oh, how's business?
- 14:46Tremendous. How's this? How's your family? Is your relationship? Everything is sugar
- 14:51coated, beautiful to the outside. Reading the inside, it's a struggle. Right? I'm
- 14:56sure everyone knows that. You know, it's not always easy to share honesty with
- 15:01others. We do, you know, people, you put, you have a miserable day, you put a
- 15:04little more makeup, put a little more nice clothes and you walk out on the
- 15:08sweet as if life is great. And we see that sometimes Sarah cares a lot about what other
- 15:19people will say. Many times we're scared about what will others say about us. Now is it the
- 15:24Jewish thing to care about what others think about you? What do you think? It's almost
- 15:29like let them think or say whatever they want.
- 15:31It's a good question, I feel like me and my family care about what other people say, like
- 15:40I was raised a little bit in a way that we care.
- 15:42Right, we care.
- 15:43We don't let them just talk, A, because talking has a power, B, because it's almost like
- 15:50I need to project or manifest or not legitimize so much the hardships, you know, the less
- 15:59you talk about it sometimes, the better. Abraham and Sarah are old and it's not a secret that
- 16:09they do not have children. Everyone else they don't have children. Abraham is 99, Sarah is 90.
- 16:16And God comes to them and tells them, you're going to have a kid. They will start laughing,
- 16:20come on God, we, the kids, and going to happen. This is not going to happen. So Sarah has a baby.
- 16:32Surprisingly, how does she call him? Isaac, why Isaac, why Itzhak? From which
- 16:41Hebrew word does Itzhak come? Itzhak comes from the word Itzhak laughter,
- 16:46jokingness, why? Because it was such a joke that he was born, no one would believe it.
- 16:52They called him Itzhak because it was like, it's like God made us, you know, almost like, it's like such
- 17:00such an irrational idea, such an absurd idea. They called him Itzhak, almost like the joke in a
- 17:08certain way. Now, between me and you, if you see someone nine years old walking around
- 17:14with a baby. What do you think? What happened there? For 90 years they didn't conceive, now suddenly
- 17:20he's probably adopted or something. Alhamdulillah what do they do? They make a big feast. A party
- 17:26and at the party Salah is opening her breast and she lets the baby nurse. Everyone should see that
- 17:34what? That it's her baby and she's that he's nursing from her. Because why the whole party?
- 17:41because the people will start talking that this is not really our kid. We're going to show that this
- 17:45is our kid. We're going to nurse her. They start saying, yeah, but look, she's so old. How she's
- 17:49going to handle this baby? What do they do? They invite all the nations around, all the people
- 17:56with their babies and Sarah publicly nurses all of them to show you think I can't handle my baby,
- 18:02I could handle my baby, and all of your babies together. Back in the day, it was actually a
- 18:06a job on nursing, a nursing, a nursing lead to 150 years ago, people hired someone to
- 18:14nurse the baby, you know, you want to nurse the baby?
- 18:18I'm not, no, sorry, I'm, this needs to be, and I'm doing my best not to laugh.
- 18:24Oh no, it's not funny.
- 18:25By the way, it, there was a, what?
- 18:27Wet nurse is what it's called.
- 18:29What is it called?
- 18:30Wet nurse.
- 18:31Wet nurse?
- 18:32Yeah.
- 18:33So like you didn't even, yeah, it's not for your baby.
- 18:34By the way, even till today, it doesn't sound like that.
- 18:36like babies in like, if their mother passed away young,
- 18:40if they need fresh mother's milk,
- 18:43there's actually, within just communities or outside,
- 18:46there's like people that donate breast milk
- 18:49to newborn babies,
- 18:51because this is the best for them,
- 18:52better than especially premature babies,
- 18:55stuff like that that they can't handle
- 18:57necessarily, you know, like artificial replacements.
- 19:01So yeah, it's a common thing.
- 19:06that happened still today. I didn't know that. So look at that, Sarah shows publicly her abilities
- 19:13not to hurt without everyone, but do you think that helped? Do you think people stopped talking?
- 19:19No, they started talking just something else. I said, oh, she got pregnant but it's not from Abraham.
- 19:26Because just a year ago, if you remember, Sarah was kidnapped by the king of Egypt,
- 19:31And he took her for a night to his house, and that's where she got pregnant.
- 19:37Abim Melech was the king of Palestine.
- 19:39What?
- 19:40Abim Melech was the king of Palestine.
- 19:41Abim Melech.
- 19:42Abim Melech is our house, I'm sorry, you're right, Abim Melech from, there was a second
- 19:47time she was kidnapped.
- 19:49The first time she was taken by Pharaoh and about to be abused by him, and then the
- 19:56or repeat itself with the Philistines of the Palestinians.
- 20:00Yeah, it's the same word.
- 20:01No, it's not the same.
- 20:02I know you're a Habib and you're very right, but that's where the word comes from.
- 20:07The Philistines, it's two different, it comes from there, but they're not the same people.
- 20:12It's not the same people.
- 20:14Lichdin, the Palestinians today, like he mostly from Turkey.
- 20:20They come from everywhere, but they have the same word.
- 20:23You don't have to invent a new word just to confirm that there was no Palestinians before
- 20:29seven years ago.
- 20:30No, that I don't need to confirm my knowledge, there's other people that were there before.
- 20:34The words are different words.
- 20:36So the translated Bible, that my English is not native, you know, this is not where
- 20:43that comes from.
- 20:44Long story short, they kept talking, so it didn't even help all that thing.
- 20:49So what did God do?
- 20:50A miracle.
- 20:51Where do we see it?
- 20:52in source number three, these are the generations of Isaac, the son of Abraham, Abraham, Fadad, Isaac.
- 20:59This is a bit of a multiplicational link of the Torah. Jews know how to be efficient, right?
- 21:05What is this duplicate language? That like, Isaac the son of Abraham, Abraham, Fadad, Isaac.
- 21:12Why do you have to say it double? The Torah tells us very simply in Rashi comments on the spot
- 21:16because people used to speak that Sarah was conceived by Avimelech. What did Hashem do?
- 21:22He made them look alike. But in Germany it's actually a law that adopting parents
- 21:28need to be somewhat similar to the baby. They're not going to let a white couple
- 21:33adopt an African-American or Hispanic. They're going to try to, to a good
- 21:39extent, try to match the baby to the family. I'm not talking for extra
- 21:43are talking full adoption, they're going to really try to make it similar, which is
- 21:49I think a very interesting phenomenon.
- 21:53So people are not going to, it's not going to stand out.
- 21:57Now where did I?
- 21:58In Germany.
- 21:59Okay.
- 22:00I was born and raised in Germany.
- 22:01That makes sense.
- 22:02Okay.
- 22:03They tried to color it, color it, but I don't understand this.
- 22:10So, I think we're like 90% immigrants around the table, so, and Hashem made a whole miracle,
- 22:21once again, just because to see what the people around us and try to protect them from that.
- 22:28And we'll continue.
- 22:29So, this is Sarah.
- 22:30We see Abraham and Sarah the same thing like that.
- 22:35We see that throughout and throughout she's keep on trying to see what the people around
- 22:40to say and try to almost prevent it. There's a story in the Talmud about Rihannina Bendoza's
- 22:49wife. Rihannina Bendoza was a great Torah scholar, but like many Torah scholars had no money.
- 22:57I don't know if it was donation based or they're just especially poor. There's multiple stories
- 23:01about him in the Talmud. One of the stories was that his wife, she was a righteous wife,
- 23:07but she didn't have money. On Friday, she was embarrassed. All the houses around her,
- 23:13there's smoke coming out of the chimney, smoke of cooking, smoke of khala making. You know,
- 23:20what's a Jewish house on Friday? You walk in, what do you smell? Khala. I haven't lived in the
- 23:25Jewish building. You walk in the chicken soup, the rocket fish. Khala. Every door, you smell
- 23:31something else. Sometimes I take my towel, I was like, who's making what? You know, I went to St.
- 23:37Sveld in our house burning eggplant, whatever, whatever is going on in that house. She was so
- 23:44embarrassed that her house didn't have anything. She took like, she went to collect like some wood
- 23:48and leaves and put it in the chimney to make smoke, to make some store in the Talmud.
- 23:55one of the neighbors didn't buy this the scam she's like smoke smoke what is she
- 24:04cooking I know they don't have a penny to their name what is she pretending like
- 24:07she's so like a disrespectful pushy neighbor in the Jewish community she
- 24:16sneaked into her house she walked in Ruby Canada's wife heard her walking in
- 24:22so she escaped to another room. She walks in the neighbor. What does she see? What does
- 24:30she see? Look in source number seven at the end. She went to knock on the door.
- 24:36Her wife became embarrassed and went into an inner room, five lines from the
- 24:40end of the page. A miracle occurred and the neighbor saw the oven filled with
- 24:45bread and the kneading bowl filled with dough. God went all out on the
- 24:49performance. Not just beautiful fresh baykhala inside of the oven. He even left the bowl outside
- 24:57filled with dough showing that this is not really literally happening now. The neighbor called out
- 25:02to her, bring the shovel because your bird is burning. Or Bichannina's wife replied, that's
- 25:06exactly why I went inside. I was the most honest statement. She said, that's exactly why I went.
- 25:15Oh well, you know where I am, that's where I just went.
- 25:19She walks out, beautiful khalaz and da'abah, and you see what care almost, God goes out
- 25:26of his way to take care of this woman, she shouldn't be embarrassed and make such a
- 25:32miracle.
- 25:33Now it wouldn't have happened to anyone, Ali al-Khamun also was an extra-holy man
- 25:36and his wife was an extra-holy wife.
- 25:39But we see from here a certain idea that the talking of others does affect and even Hashem
- 25:49sees the pain that that could cause to one.
- 25:52And how sometimes it is important to kind of take into consideration, there's a lot of
- 25:56things as Jews we don't do, I sat with a Costa Rica a few days ago at a coffee shop
- 26:03in a blue ballad cafe and you know I said to them, I told them, let's go buy something.
- 26:08He says, no, no need, we'll just sit here.
- 26:11Right? Some people say, we'll just sit in the coffee.
- 26:14I tell them, no, because if they're going to come over to you and ask you to buy something,
- 26:18I tell them, it's not okay, you're sitting here without buying.
- 26:20It's no big problem, but if they come over to me, it's in the name of all the Jews
- 26:24that we sit and we take advantage of the store and you know, it's khilu lashim
- 26:28And a Jew could not afford to do one of those things, and Halakhhar rules strictly against
- 26:35those things.
- 26:36A Jew is not allowed to scam, a Jew is not allowed to do uncushed things, you know,
- 26:40upstate New York, is the only Costco in the world, the only Walmart in Costco in the
- 26:45world, they don't take returns.
- 26:47Because what happens, the Hasidic community comes upstate, they buy air-conditioned
- 26:53soccer world this blame pulls everything and lay in what they call 4th of July
- 27:00weekend they come back to Labor Day and massive returns within 90 days full
- 27:06credit see you next year this is embarrassing for God this is not just
- 27:14not okay because legally you're not really supposed to buy if you know you're
- 27:19gonna return it right it's only like if it was I didn't we didn't like the
- 27:23pool, like you guys used it for two months. It's a mess.
- 27:28Because actually, you know that with those, you know, those
- 27:31electric scooters. So when it started, when it started, the
- 27:34trend like, what? Oh, wait, I'm also I'm against the scooters,
- 27:39don't worry. It's horrible. Wait, wait, these are orthodox
- 27:43Jews? Jews? Let's not specify, you know, communities,
- 27:48it's an embarrassment. And it's very unfortunate that things
- 27:51that happen. A Jew needs to be a light upon the nations and an example for a righteous individual,
- 27:57not the opposite. I just feel like religious people wouldn't do that. I also think people
- 28:02also think that they wouldn't take bribe or do illegal stuff. Being religious, it doesn't make
- 28:08if you do things that are wrong, maybe you're not that religious, etc. But it's almost like
- 28:15a feeling that like it's okay to scam others that are not as religious as you.
- 28:20it's a touchy subject. I'm not going to expand on it. But it's just an example of embarrassing
- 28:26God. One other religious neighbor would hear, for example, in Brooklyn found out that if
- 28:30you order the scooter and then you tell Amazon you want to return it, they tell you just
- 28:36keep it because they can't ship it back after you install the battery. After you light on
- 28:41the battery, they can't ship it back because the post office doesn't let you ship back
- 28:45active batteries because it's explosive. So it's worth it for them. Do you just
- 28:50keep it what do the Jews realize massive business opportunity you could order
- 28:57scooters and as to return them and you know and like you and you get to keep
- 29:03them and they refund you the money within two days Amazon block all the
- 29:10Jewish zip codes from ordering now this is imagine Amazon had quarters sitting
- 29:17and they say, oh, it's like, oh, religious, religious, religious, let's block those zip
- 29:23codes.
- 29:24And Cranhites, Broke Park.
- 29:25Without names of neighborhoods, I'm sure that, by the way, I'm sure it happens also
- 29:29in other communities, but Jews are not allowed to afford these things.
- 29:33Not just because of what will the United States, just because it's just not right.
- 29:36It's straight up scamming, straight up stealing, stuff you're not supposed to do, and there's
- 29:41a lot of other things that the Jew needs to prevent from doing just because of what
- 29:45others will say or think.
- 29:46No, that's not true.
- 29:47What?
- 29:48To a sacramente.
- 29:49What?
- 29:50To a sacramente.
- 29:51What do you mean, to a sacramente?
- 29:53If someone was not at your hook, had a business policy that's a mistake for his sign, that
- 30:04he was a man in your hook, according to Allah, you're allowed to...
- 30:11So, I'm surprised to you.
- 30:12I went to two robberies and asked them if I'm allowed to order a scooter.
- 30:15They asked me a very simple question.
- 30:17If the seller knows that you will buy it in order to return it, will he sell it to you?
- 30:23Or is that a right thing to do?
- 30:28And if he would not sell it to you knowing that you're planning on returning it,
- 30:32you're basically scamming him and that is forbidden, according to Allah the Almighty.
- 30:36So it is technically forbidden, but there is such Allah that makes differences in the business.
- 30:45No, if someone mistakenly returned you instead of a $20 dollar bill or $50 dollar bill in
- 30:50the supermarket.
- 30:51Are you allowed to keep it?
- 30:52Sure.
- 30:53No, you're not allowed to keep it.
- 30:54So if a Jew gave it to you, and if a Jew gave it to you, you for sure have to give
- 31:00it back.
- 31:01If the guy gave it to you, it's the right thing to give it back, the technically might
- 31:04keep it if it was his error.
- 31:07On the other hand, it says the Mishum Kiddush Hashem and if there is any chance
- 31:10that the Nanju will find out and will be upset at the Jew for that, it's forbidden to keep it.
- 31:15Yeah, but only if you will find out.
- 31:17But what do you mean he's not going to find out? Amazon knows, Walmart knows, Costco knows.
- 31:21No, would the Jews get the name at this point of scammers and stealers?
- 31:26Because it is allowed.
- 31:29It's not allowed. It's not allowed once it causes Khilul Hashem.
- 31:32So the only problem with the Khilul Hashem, not because it's not moral?
- 31:35know but that's why I say that the Jewish law forbids you to do things even secretively,
- 31:41even behind those doors in order to do certain things that may be interpreted as if you violated
- 31:47the halakhah. For example, if I cook chicken with almond milk, if I cook chicken with almond
- 31:56milk and then you would say, oh he's serving chicken and meat, meat and milk together right?
- 32:02chicken or milk. The al-Khasa says you should put almonds all around, so whoever sees it
- 32:08understands that this is a dish with almonds, not with real milk. And that is supposed to be
- 32:14even if no one else will be present, because things that are maybe interburned in a certain way,
- 32:22a Jew must be extra careful even if no one else is going to be present. We can go on and on
- 32:28about examples around that, but we'll see that the Judaism is going to be extra careful and
- 32:33And extra consider it not just about not doing something wrong that may be interpret as a mistake
- 32:39where they're also, what other people will talk.
- 32:42Is there a part of it that you should also know like have the humility to know that you could get caught no matter how much you think that you won't?
- 32:50Like there's always a chance. Maybe the almond milk is not a good example, but...
- 32:54But with stealing or scamming and all those things, even if no one will ever found out.
- 33:00You drop by the gas station and you're just driving off and no one will ever see you again on the on that highway
- 33:07Two things one you have the opportunity to sanctify God's name if they'll see that you're righteous
- 33:12So a it's a missed opportunity
- 33:14Being if there's any chance that they'll make account afterwards and they'll find out and they'll go and trace it back to the Jew
- 33:20That's gonna be the biggest embarrassment for God on earth
- 33:22This is exactly the opposite of the mission of the Jew
- 33:25And then I'm going to conclude a little bit with about my grandmother who's your artist
- 33:29tonight that she was the one of those people that whatever happened at home outside it was
- 33:38the happiest best place.
- 33:40No one would know if she has a hard time financial difficulties or a tough or a rough day.
- 33:49She was every morning kind of getting up before everyone cooking, cleaning, dancing
- 33:54in the kitchen.
- 33:56No one ever walked into the house and didn't get a donation.
- 33:59Anyone who ever knocked on the door, she never complained or said, oh, the schnudders, the
- 34:03people, the diss, they're annoying, they're nothing.
- 34:06Anyone who ever walked in, she walked in with a smile and gave them what to eat and gave
- 34:10them a little donation, whatever she was able to get.
- 34:13And she was always taking care of top to bottom, even when she was six, she didn't
- 34:18want to be, you know, she didn't want anyone to see her in her, in her bed condition.
- 34:24So she was very self-respected around the Shabbat dinner, even when she and my grandfather worked
- 34:30very, very hard.
- 34:31Shabbat dinner, they were like king and queen, king and queen, literally.
- 34:36Sometimes they had huge financial debts, Friday night, 30, 40 people around the table, endless
- 34:44salads, what, things, drinks, everything, Shabbat by them was from a different world.
- 34:52no one would be able from the outside to tell almost. So when you grow up and you realize
- 34:57that not everything looked the way it actually was behind the scenes. Not everything was the
- 35:02way you almost like realized it. But we see something from our matriarchs and her name
- 35:09was also Rivka. So you see we have Sarah, Rachel, Rivka, all of them. The common denominator
- 35:15is many times very very caring and for the kids is especially important. The kids should
- 35:21not see the parents arguing. The kids should not see the difficulty the parents are having.
- 35:27They should know, mother and father are diligent, are running, are working hard, everything they
- 35:31could know. But they need to feel the stability, they need to feel the joy, they need to feel
- 35:36the united front, that even father and mother are upset with each other. They're still
- 35:41united front. They're not going to argue in front of the kids, they make decisions
- 35:45together. So we see the harmony between Yachov and Rachel, the love, the care, that is really
- 35:53the foundation that we should also take to ourselves and also deliver on to our kids,
- 36:00each one to their families, etc. So when God makes miracles, when we really believe it,
- 36:05we put smoke in our chimney. You know what, especially in New York, the way you carry
- 36:12yourself, if you carry yourself unemployed and depressed, that's what you're going to come around,
- 36:17that's where you're going to end up unemployed and depressed. If you get dressed, put on a nice suit,
- 36:22iron shirt, nice suit, and you start walking around between the success of people trying to push
- 36:27yourself through, that's where you're going to end up. That's where you're going to succeed.
- 36:31We're not saying how long you still need a miracle, God will still need to kick in somewhere,
- 36:36but this is definitely, this is definitely the way you should pursue it, the way we should like,
- 36:41you know, show up high and good and positive even though reality sometimes doesn't fully align with
- 36:48that. So Lachan, all of you who give you reveal blessings reveal good as a place to really thank
- 36:55the hosts, Lisa and Anna, right? And Anna for their hospitality, for the efforts for
- 37:01to spread light and spread goodness, you know and maybe we continue continuously successful.
- 37:07Thank you.
- 37:09We're going.
- 37:11We're going.
