- 0:02Here's your host, Alex Garrett. Well, I've got a journeyman journalist now
- 0:09he's all over the place. My friend actually, Julian Gulardi. Julian,
- 0:14I've known you for a few years. It's great to have you back on
- 0:16this All Star Week. What an important conversation to have this All Star Week.
- 0:21How you been Alex, Thank you so much for having me back.
- 0:24And it's uh, they've been a crazy year, all the stuff happening with
- 0:29the Yankees and all the other levels of baseball. But like yesterday's game,
- 0:34like you think they're gonna have first back and then you get another play homes
- 0:37some defensevenelt down put into one. So I mean, I'm good though.
- 0:43It's good. You've been writing some great articles on on on various things.
- 0:47I mean, you're a Yankee fan, but I see that you're writing on
- 0:50the Mets, and I want to go there because this this year's All Star
- 0:53Game participant at Holman Derby participant, Pete Alonzo, you know he's been in
- 0:59the rumor mill and you've talked about this. I want to start there is
- 1:02there a chance that that first basement could be traded at the deadline? What
- 1:06are your sources say in the beginning, like I thought that it could happen
- 1:11when I first wrote that piece, but I didn't really say the Yankee.
- 1:15I think the Yankees were a great possibility. I mean it would be cool
- 1:19because they ne to't need it for the Rice call. But I think he's
- 1:25gonna stay now because Comessa playing the ball and they're gonna try to race for
- 1:30that wild card. I think the guys have been saying that his name's kind
- 1:36of in all the market. You know, the Astros are interested from I
- 1:38understand because Jose Bray, but I think that Alonso is gonna stay with the
- 1:45Mets. I think so too. I mean it's it's it was a touch
- 1:52and go there for a bit because obviously it's this contract year. He's not
- 1:53had the best one. All of a sudden, he's got nineteen homers,
- 1:57and you know, he and Judge of really picked up the pace. And
- 2:00of course Aaron Judge is gonna be the All Star for the Yanks this week.
- 2:05And what's your thoughts on him? Because in April Twitter thought he should
- 2:09be Bencher sent down and now he's literally under thirty home runs to sixty three.
- 2:16I mean, this guy is on another record pace. What do you
- 2:19see him from him? I just can't believe it's happening again. It's thirty
- 2:24four home runs. Last time it was less than it said the break because
- 2:30I know Judge just cracked a list of like the most Tom runs before an
- 2:32All Star break with some of the people on eipons at thirty nine. But
- 2:38Aaron Judge is an incredible force. You look at what he thoughts for the
- 2:43lineup, and he just continues to get better somehow, like playing better in
- 2:46the twenty twenty two season. Twenty twenty three was on his way, but
- 2:50he got injured. He's still had forty home runs like comes one hundred games,
- 2:54So it's just a stretch he's been on the past few years. Is
- 2:58really like solidifying his as the best player in the game. You mentioned Ben
- 3:04Rice and I know you probably covered him at Somerset. Any any interaction with
- 3:07him and are you surprised that he's been off to this hot start. Look,
- 3:12it was a low slow there, but then he picked it up.
- 3:14He had the three home runs as a rookie first time ever in a game.
- 3:19Did you see that potential when he was at Somerset? Yeah, there
- 3:22was some chats with Rice been had. I saw the potential for a great
- 3:28bat. I wasn't sure about where it's defense he stood because I didn't really
- 3:31feel like he was the best catcher Yankees. Of a bunch of catchers first
- 3:37base kind of seems like a better fit. He's doing all right defensively for
- 3:40now. A bat's been really good, has some good contact too, besides
- 3:46just the home runs. And I was starting to tape Broth a little bit.
- 3:49But it's the Pigs and Valley's being a rookie, so we'll see how
- 3:52he looks going forward. I just thought that Rice was like very happy with
- 3:58what was going on. He's thankful for the opportunity he has been given.
- 4:01So I think they'll keep working hard and that batch sticking the lineup, and
- 4:05we'll see how what happens if the one results turned so. So, are
- 4:11gonna get to see him again at Woodbridge? Because I'm I'm debating when they
- 4:14go down there. I know it's so out, but you never know,
- 4:15are you going down to see him? No, I'm not going to be
- 4:17there to see him this week, but I am gonna look at that Jack
- 4:21Cory have been with Jose Trevino, Tommy Kinley, and there's one more I
- 4:25forgot. Maybe it's Wall of Cabrari. I will try that one though.
- 4:30And they had a Clerk Schmidt too. If I'm not mistaken on Luke Weaver,
- 4:32it's gonna be a big deal on Monday, August fifth. That being
- 4:36said, you know, you mentioned last night the Yanks and New York City
- 4:41Field, and I'm like, wait a minute, Yanks are six, you
- 4:44know, five three high. They lose six to five. I see them
- 4:46highlights. I can't blame Bolty entirely. I also, you know, for
- 4:51what it's worth, Holmes has not been able to be in a safe situation
- 4:55quite often towards the July and June months, so I feel like in that
- 4:59role he's a bit rusty in it. But it doesn't excuse the fact he's
- 5:03now blown two saves. But my question to you is, Yanks have now
- 5:10missed two sweeps the Royals and the Orioles due to all of this Ninth Inning
- 5:15chaos. How do they recover from it after the break? I feel like
- 5:17they can't recover. They didn't recover in Boston, right, and they of
- 5:20course lose to Boston in that ninth in that ninth inning on the Friday night,
- 5:26But how would how should they recover from your eyes in the second half
- 5:30from that those misweeps. They need to make deals because you can't rely on
- 5:34Clay Homes to close it out. He has like six blown saves. We
- 5:39yeah, we mentioned three of them right there. He's just been a wreck.
- 5:43Everything starting fast, and yeah, it's events is at fall, but
- 5:46again, play Homes doesn't miss any bats really, and he also walks too
- 5:51many guys like the guys he shouldn't walk, and that's what gets them in
- 5:56trouble in these situations. I mean, yeah, it's offensive. Plays have
- 5:59to be made by both the Ambers who going the Yankees should win the game.
- 6:01But he they need, he needs to be a lot better and he
- 6:05just hasn't been. Man. They need to make some trades. And I'd
- 6:10also look to call up Jack Neely, but he hasn't pitched a little while,
- 6:13so now I'm wondering if it's her too, which the other guys down
- 6:15there. But yeah, and Luke Weaver, you know, Luke Weaver has
- 6:20been a candidate for closure. They just haven't haven't been able to get that
- 6:26going, should they? In the second half. No, I don't want
- 6:28we were closing because I need him to go multi inning sometimes they need we
- 6:34were in the row is in now, so I would not have him close.
- 6:40I think I broke my role exactly the second part of the seasone.
- 6:43I broke my role there, Julian, it's not the second half, it's
- 6:45the second part. But that's another story. It's really funny, Like I
- 6:47used to always think it was halfway, but like now it's just been like,
- 6:51well more towards the first half being over. You know the thing about
- 6:58these these two teams, the Mets and the Yankees, are despite all the
- 7:01chaos and the and the craziness in this first half, first part of the
- 7:06season, they have ended pretty well to get to the break. And I
- 7:11didn't think that was possible. Like I didn't think the Mets would recover from
- 7:14zero to five. I didn't think the Yanks would be able to go to
- 7:18Baltimore and and and I would say dominate in a sense. Even they lost
- 7:21yesterday, they finally won a series. I didn't see that about a week
- 7:26ago. Is this baseball? Or what did they change up both teams to
- 7:30get into the groove they have heading the All Star break, I think the
- 7:34Mets found a lot of belief and a lot of the players. I think
- 7:38the offense looked good there. Starting rotation has been ben but its own break.
- 7:42Their bullpen's been a wreck, but they've gone some big out so,
- 7:46like I think the Mets are just their runs are performing to begin the year,
- 7:49so I think there was some correction on that, and then they've gone
- 7:54some excellent performances. And the likes of the Antils like Ose Glaciers, like
- 7:58guys who wouldn't expect before season started, which helps when Door has been pretty
- 8:03solid, Nemo has been great, have Alpas his goos. Whenever he plays,
- 8:07they seem to win. So it's like a lot of good stuff clicking.
- 8:11When the Yankees, I'm not fully satisfied because I was surprised they won
- 8:16the series too, But that's the point that you have to finish the job
- 8:18and actually sweep the team, especially to get first place and like have the
- 8:22season series be tied. Like the first two games are really good. I
- 8:26think you just got good pitching and you've got timely hitting, and the Orioles,
- 8:30let's be honest, they're not playing too good either, and they got
- 8:31lucky to even win one game. They got swept by the Cops. So
- 8:35I mean the Yankees got lucky at the Orioles kind of went through it at
- 8:39the same time. Now, of all the rumors going around, what is
- 8:43what is solid? What is just rumor? What? What do you see
- 8:48going down at the deadline? Are the who theanks? Who are the inks
- 8:50in line for in the running for Okay, I'm trying to process all this.
- 8:56I think, like, I think Tanner's got to real it's the target,
- 9:00but the problem is there's a bunch of people going for him. But
- 9:03I think that's the guy they should try to pick up for the bullpen.
- 9:07And then I think Carlos Sevens from the Angels, another reliever lines up.
- 9:13I think they might want to get what wes from Fingo with him two maybe
- 9:18a little bit of tornament and Fingo like he does something as well, but
- 9:22I don't know how sustainable it is. But they too need a better option
- 9:26at their base, so I wouldn't be opposed to that one. Maybe maybe
- 9:31Jack Flaherty from the Tigers if they want extra starter, that would be a
- 9:37nice little deal potentially, So that's what I would say. I mean,
- 9:43they need at least like two bullpen arms, hopefully infields are maybe a starting
- 9:48pitcher? All right, Julian, I know you are a frustrated fan,
- 9:54and I know that that frustration bleeds into the Labor Torres camp as well.
- 9:58So are you hoping he goes to the deadline? Do you want him to
- 10:01shape up his contract year? Like? What are your thoughts on Labor?
- 10:07I think the Yankees gotta ride it out. I think they just gotta see
- 10:09if he can get it together in the second because he's a good hitter.
- 10:13When he's on point, he is an extremely helpful part of this team.
- 10:16Can we say that absolutely? And it's all a good sign if I'm like
- 10:20starting a hill with better of these past few games too, I thought he
- 10:26always says decently, came to the yards, he has some hits against the
- 10:30race. I think he definitely will be a lot better in the second half.
- 10:35I think there's zero purpose in trading him because there's two reasons why I
- 10:39wouldn't do it. The first one is that its value is gonna be terrible,
- 10:43Let's be honest about that to start. And then the second thing is
- 10:48that I don't want to create another hole making new position opening, because like,
- 10:52who's gonna play second base if you trade him? What about on the
- 10:58match? I like that we're having this balance competitions by both teams, so
- 11:01that you do cover both teams. And I see that you're with fan Nation
- 11:05and Latino Sports. I know you cover basically the ground of of yank Citium
- 11:09and city Field. So let's go with the Mets as well here. I
- 11:13don't I know people were knocking Tyrone Taylor, but he ends up being a
- 11:18good piece to this lineup. What changes would you make? I mean DJ
- 11:22Stewart is on and off? Is that is a DH spot at so a
- 11:26weak spot for them? No? Because they got J D. Martinez,
- 11:30So I don't know, yes, Martin for them. I think that the
- 11:33line is basically fine if you want to add it that maybe in the I
- 11:39guess outfield. The infield seems a little bit full, unlest they want to
- 11:43try to like do something that second with Jeff McNeil because he hasn't been great.
- 11:48I think that they need bullpen help. The men's need bullpen help,
- 11:52bullpen help and more bullpen help, and maybe a starting pitcher, but I
- 11:58don't know if they necessarily need it. And is retiring, but bull Pen
- 12:01is their main co All right, Now you mentioned JD Martinez. Here's a
- 12:07guy that came up a little later, but from injury and everything like that.
- 12:11But he's provided the spark that I don't think, you know, Met
- 12:16fans were expecting because he's a little older. Right, So what goes into
- 12:18that that magic of JD MARTINZ? What has he changed for JD? Is
- 12:24so good? I mean the team really rallies around JD too, Like he
- 12:28has them take extra meetings, like he's working with all the guys hitters like.
- 12:33So, JD's been a big leader of mensa over the Mets, and
- 12:37you know, he's very professional, is at bats, doesn't get cheated,
- 12:39doesn't take it bad at bat, always quality with him. Even though he's
- 12:45thirty seven, he's still getting the jobs on he's saying. Well, So
- 12:48he's another anchor for that Mets team and the clubhouse is really rallying around those
- 12:54guys. The leaders of the team with the Lindors and Martinez is it's everything
- 13:00is something operate and the fact that they have a third wildcard spot after being
- 13:03eleven games under five hundred. Who would have thought, right, yeah,
- 13:07no, that is so true. I mean they are. They are in
- 13:09the thick of this now after all of that, And of course the host
- 13:13Glacious. Ever known an active player to put out a song mid season,
- 13:18I've never seen that before. That was the first. I absolutely love that
- 13:22story. And he's a good guy too. I spoke to him a little
- 13:26bit. I know there's artists that have made songs before that play baseball and
- 13:31other sports, but like, I can't think of something quite like the post
- 13:37game constant that actually had results like that. Uh yeah, it was really
- 13:41cool. I wish I was there for that one with a fun day,
- 13:45but I saw all the videos and the stadium was going nuts. Good times
- 13:50in Queens right now, Yankees ends on a sort of good note. But
- 13:54in the last game, just like in twenty twenty one when the Yankees got
- 13:56walked off against the Astros and they were up like six to two night inning
- 14:01going into the second half. Well, let me let me ask you this,
- 14:05Julian, because you've also seen a couple guys make their rehab starts in
- 14:09uh in Summerset, right, Garrett Cole made his way down there to rehab
- 14:13and DJ You am I wrong to say they might have brought Garrett a little
- 14:20too soon? Or did you think when you saw him in summer set?
- 14:22Okay, he looks ready. What were your thoughts on all that? And
- 14:26DJ? Two, I want to ask you about him as well. Okay,
- 14:28Garrett, I I think they could have maybe did one more rehab,
- 14:33but when they sent him out of Triple A, he was looking good at
- 14:37get like ten K's and around five innings, I was like, all right,
- 14:39I mean, I guess that works. I mean it's not the same
- 14:43obviously to what three rehabs starts to, because maybe to four. I saw
- 14:46you definitely saw some rough Pactice in the beginning against Baltimore the first time the
- 14:50Mets got him really good. Austin wasn't great, but you saw, look
- 14:54Gerrett gold can do against Toronto. He saw he could do against the Oriols
- 15:00this weekend. So I think everything's fine. Now it counts like where it
- 15:03should be. So I guess it was all good. Maybe they could have
- 15:07do one more, but I don't think it's too bad. And then DJ,
- 15:13I mean, look, DJ is finally finding his swing. But that
- 15:16was a guy who had to go through this rehabbing as well. And when
- 15:20he first got called, you know, first got back in the majors that
- 15:22we're so excited. He has struggled since he came back up, but the
- 15:26signs are there. I mean the fact he's going the opposite way with that
- 15:30baseball in the batter's box. You know, hitting the opposite way for him
- 15:33is a big part of his game. Yeah, it is, But I
- 15:39don't really I'll be honest with you, and he might know already, but
- 15:43I don't share the same optimism you do with Djo and Mayhew. I think
- 15:46the Yankees really need to find at their basement quickly. I'm just not sold
- 15:52on anything with him anymore, and his powers now existing, I think his
- 15:56better days are well behind him, honestly, really, all right, I
- 16:00want to talk about the other JD because I gotta be honest, and yeah,
- 16:03I think I voiced this maybe on X or whatever, But I know
- 16:07that Trent Grisham in the lineup kind of irks me sometimes because it feels like
- 16:11he's not conjuring as much as he could or whatever. He's just struggling a
- 16:17lot of the time. Yeah, he has his highlights, but he's struggling
- 16:18a lot. Why aren't they playing guys like Waldo and even you know,
- 16:22you get JD. Davis and he sitting on the bench. I mean,
- 16:25why not give him a few at bets as well. Well, there's a
- 16:27couple of things here I would say. First of all, I think Grishiam's
- 16:30arrow is actually pointing out yesterday he basically put the team on his back.
- 16:36He's been hitting a lot better considering how bad he started the season. That
- 16:41one play against the Reds was awful. I don't know what the hell that
- 16:44was other than that, his defense has been great, it always is.
- 16:48His bat is pretty aggravating. I understand he takes a lot of pitches.
- 16:52Man, he really doesn't like swinging that much, so like that's another problem
- 16:57with him as well. But considering how poorly he started, I think he's
- 17:04actually been swinging the bad relatively well. And then what about playing waldollmore?
- 17:12Because I know that people want like Madison, I know there's Waldoll to play
- 17:17more. Nithan, our mutual friend Nithan, just play Waldomore. What are
- 17:19your thoughts on that? I was about to get to that, So I
- 17:23think, like, yeah, I'd like to see him more in DJ for
- 17:27sure. But the thing is, like, I don't know if he can
- 17:33just be your starring throw base. I don't know if it's seen enough on
- 17:34offense to just like Canton the keys the job fully, but I would like
- 17:40to see some more actions. JD. Davis went down to Summer Folis.
- 17:42Why I didn't see him this weekend, But I'm very aggravated the fact that
- 17:48they called Vivas and the only men use him like. I thought they could
- 17:52have gave him some shots out there, especially without bad we've been hitting,
- 17:55but that was just the holes of bench spot. I get, so there's
- 18:00that. But yeah, I mean, I'm alright with Walls though, but
- 18:03I need to see him hit a little bit better if he's gonna play like
- 18:07more. But with that being said, the attitude on him and then one
- 18:11DJ, yeah, I know, the stomach flu thing was really weird because
- 18:15you know, it was just an odd thing to go down with, but
- 18:18that's what it was. Now. In talking about Vivas, I know everybody
- 18:22was excited to see him play, you know, call him up. What's
- 18:26it like for you though, to get to know all these guys at the
- 18:29double A, triple A level. I mean, is there sort of a
- 18:32privilege you feel or pride you feel that you get to interview all these guys
- 18:36before they get called up. Yeah, I mean I do enjoy some of
- 18:41it. It hasn't been a fun ride, like saying that we could talk
- 18:45to some of the people before they go all the way up like the Rises
- 18:48of the World, the Hole Bees maingas well. But like, yeah,
- 18:55it's a little bit tough because, like you want the guys to get called
- 18:59up, take a while. Sometimes sometimes it doesn't happening. They get trade
- 19:03to other teams because now it's deadline season, so a lot of guys are
- 19:07gonna be going that we like. So it's gonna be a little bit tough,
- 19:11but we'll love to see what the returns bringing them. It's actually worth
- 19:15it. It's definitely been very hither the mess since last few trades headlines for
- 19:18sure, So a lot of stuff's gonna go down and hopefully it's the right
- 19:22moves to get them towards the World Series. Yeah, that's the thing.
- 19:26Everybody still says Cash should be fired and Boone should be fired. But I
- 19:33mean, what are your thoughts on that. I am not in that camp.
- 19:36I think we gotta let the season play out. What are your thoughts
- 19:40of the thoughts I need to see something different super sooner around away. They're
- 19:45like, yeah, let it go now, don't do anything right now,
- 19:48But like I want to see the team needs to make the World Series in
- 19:52the minimum but not win it. And I can't see another early playoff exit.
- 19:56And it's the same with all like get into the al Yes, does
- 20:00nothing for me at this point? Well right, and to me, the
- 20:03only thing I would say, as I mentioned before, I know Grisham was
- 20:06picking up with that was a week spot which frustrated me. But you know,
- 20:10if he can produce, that's all we want. We want these guys
- 20:12to keep hitting and whatnot. Julian, who was your favorite interview You've done
- 20:18this whole first part of the season. First part of the season. I
- 20:26did just talk with Dustin Brown, Who's gonna get drafted. He's Kevin Brown's
- 20:30son, So I'll just give you that one. Well, I was gonna
- 20:36ask you about the draft because now you got a whole new selection to cover
- 20:40down in the miners. Who is the best draft pick? Lass? You
- 20:42know? Over on Sunday night for the Yankees, I just was looking at
- 20:48some of the stuff. I think Cunningham was maybe a better pick than has.
- 20:52I was a little surprised with S. I think Cass will be all
- 20:56right. Probably felt like it was the word the twenty six pick. Like
- 21:00I'm not going to be an expert and say like, definitely not, but
- 21:03like I was a little surprised. I thought they'd look towards third base maybe
- 21:10even though some reports came out they wanted a lot of pictures. But I
- 21:14think both guys have high upside. Though apparently they could both be like two
- 21:18to three stars if everything goes well. So we'll see how that looks.
- 21:22I think they want to replace some pitching, the pitching and the system taking
- 21:26a little bit of behay recently, so I understand it from that standpoint.
- 21:30But to me, like and I think you're gonna groo me too, and
- 21:34we're talking about it's team desperately needs a future third basement. They have no
- 21:40answer for someone to play third base going forward. Yeah, that third base
- 21:48slot is going to be, uh, you know, a competition everyone.
- 21:52Now, you mentioned college and I just remember this. You were down at
- 21:56the SEC Tournament for that crazy game, right if I'm not miss taken,
- 22:00tell us about your time covering the SEC tournament this year. I covered ACC
- 22:04and Charlie acc that's right, Sorry about that. Yeah, no, so
- 22:11the crazy game I le so I can edit it cleanly, okay in three
- 22:15two one Now, Julian, Now, I asked you your favorite interview,
- 22:18but the favorite game you covered might not have been from the Major League Baseball
- 22:22right you got to cover the a SEC tournament this past spring. Yeah,
- 22:26I think the favorite game I covered this year was probably UNC versus Wake Forest.
- 22:32I saw Chase Burns throw six show scoreless, came up maybe one run
- 22:37actually, but like fourteen k's my one run of fifteen k's. But regardless
- 22:41of the point, he got the second overall by the Reds last night and
- 22:45for good reason. And then there was a battle North Carolina xtraining some North
- 22:52Carolina came back and after being down for nothing, then wake Forest ties in
- 22:57the night and then wake Forest an extra. So it was a crazy game.
- 23:02This guy Nick Cruin who was picked by the eight's fourth overall, and
- 23:06like a big home run and a big double, so all the big players
- 23:10ended up playing really well with Dan Suny from North North Carolina. So that's
- 23:15why it was a really special game, Like you got a marquee matchup with
- 23:18like the top end talent playing really well and it was for the best game
- 23:22by far. Now in your college coverage, But is that always fun to
- 23:29see these guys perform and then get called up? I mean, do you
- 23:32ever maintain connections with them after get called up. I've never had a guy
- 23:37go I knew in college, like go all the way through. Like most
- 23:40times, it's been like I'll meet them after they get drafted. I never
- 23:45religiously followed someone's college career like all the way through. But that will change
- 23:49this yere. But we'll we'll see how long it takes these guys, because
- 23:53like it's gonna be a little bit probably, but on everyone's skiings so love
- 24:02to see. However, that is amazing your thoughts on Skiens getting in there.
- 24:07He's a rookie, he hasn't played the amount of time. I mean,
- 24:11is the exception to be made, though, I feel like it is
- 24:12for him to be in the Alcar game tomorrow night. I actually thought they
- 24:17handled this great. I'm really surprised he ends up getting a nomination. I
- 24:21didn't think they were gonna. I thought they were too dumb to do it.
- 24:23So they actually got out of their own way. They made the right
- 24:27decision that would everyone know early. I think it's good for the game.
- 24:30The game needs starts just exactly what he is, and we're gonna get to
- 24:33see him try to mow down the best hitters on the planet with like one
- 24:37hundred mile an hour stuff, and it's gonna be great. I think he's
- 24:41only gonna throw anything probably, I would guess maybe too if the person's really
- 24:45light. But it's gonna be special to see him pitch and guys of the
- 24:48unique talent, and I think he deserves all of And honestly, he's a
- 24:53rookie that's hit no hit a couple of teams here through seven. Now that's
- 24:57the big part through seven. Why are they taking out early? I mean,
- 25:00is there a lot of babying going on that you are pissed up it
- 25:03as a baseball fan, Yeah, there is a little bit. I would
- 25:07have liked to see him go get it too. I mean, I guess
- 25:11they say he'll have plenty of chances to get more. I mean, I
- 25:12guess he probably will, but it's like he'll be had ninety nine like they
- 25:17could. But the thing is like, if they decided to go a little
- 25:19bit, they probably would have had to go like all the way. So
- 25:22maybe they just didn't want to like put themselves in that position to like have
- 25:26to pick a weird number. By the way, people are so excited about
- 25:30Skins, judge, or aren't you. I'm excited to see that matchup.
- 25:33I think it's gonna happen the first thing tomorrow. But I'm not mistaken.
- 25:36You know it should happened. I'm sorry for it. Maybe so of those
- 25:40schemes too, that'll be interesting as well. Skeens is really incredible. I'd
- 25:45like to see him pitch live two. I've never about to see anything from
- 25:49him. Guy's electure splinker like he's got a million pitches shrugs out about the
- 25:56eleven Brewers the other day with seven to zero innings as a robot. I'm
- 26:00excited to see what he's gonna do. Yeah. Sometimes LSU doesn't miss with
- 26:07their talent, that's for sure. I mean, luk Wels came out of
- 26:08that college organization one Joe Burrow, right, so they don't miss with their
- 26:14Now their football is ridiculous. Their baseball's getting pretty good too, Honestly,
- 26:18I'm very Now here's a good question for you. So you want the Yankees
- 26:21to take a shot at Tommy Tags. So you you know more about the
- 26:26draft than I do. I just followed from the journalists perspective, but you
- 26:29know, I always think it's amazing how they're able to draft and then you
- 26:36know, guys do make make it to the bigs. But I haven't followed
- 26:41that closely. But tell me, tell us more about Tommy Tanks. He's
- 26:44a big power hitter. He's really not a third basement per se. He's
- 26:48probably more of a first basement of the h which might even start of the
- 26:52problem. But Tommy Tanks is a great hitter, and he has like a
- 26:55bunch of home run records. Now let's he's and he actually hits for average
- 27:02well, so I don't think it's k rates so bad, and I think
- 27:04he walks a decent amount. But like I guess, we'll see how it
- 27:08translated and at the next level as he goes up. I felt like this
- 27:12College World series, this whole playoffs thing with the College World was most watched.
- 27:17I mean a lot of people were watching this, more so them before.
- 27:19What what do you think the change has been to get more people involved
- 27:22with college baseball. I think they're showing it more they'll give you more options
- 27:26to watch it, which is good, Like you can stream a lot of
- 27:30the games on your phone. Like back in the day, there was no
- 27:33coverage of like the other games. I just remember like College World Series.
- 27:37Maybe they did like Super Regionals, but they never did regional coverage. But
- 27:41now you can watch all them on your phone ESPN plus. I think people
- 27:45are getting more excited. I think there's two things. I think it's because
- 27:49you've got the correlation of the prospects, probably more in the minors. People
- 27:52are playing way more attention to that. And with that, people want to
- 27:56know like how they're getting there from college and like high school and all that.
- 28:00So like that's like making people watch college more to see like who the
- 28:04the prospects are going to be. Yeah, it's it's and especially for me
- 28:11with Saint John's a half mile from my queen's home, you know, seeing
- 28:15them go far and then the go to some of the I'm guessing you went
- 28:19to some of the baseball games. I wish. I was actually in Port
- 28:23Washington most of the the spring, you know, working like a hospitalized in
- 28:27May, so it was a little bit of a challenge. But I'm trying
- 28:32to strike up a connection with them, because you know, there are sort
- 28:33of a hometown baseball team and to see them do well. I don't know
- 28:37if you saw. I did the play life play a little bit when they
- 28:40were down in uh in Virginia because I felt no one else could listen to
- 28:42this, so let me do a little bit. I tag one of the
- 28:47guys and now I got a Saint John's baseball guy followed me, So there
- 28:49you go. It just it happens like that. Yeah, I want to
- 28:55check out some John's ball to next year, maybe in Rutgers. Like Rutgers
- 28:59wasn't great, but they have all right players, so I want to see
- 29:03some more local college ball. For sure, it was Ruvera Johggies because we've
- 29:07been a local team. Like I wish we could get a super regional regional
- 29:11peers and how that's never going to happen because like to be like a top
- 29:14sixteen team to get that, we just don't have the animal a peer.
- 29:17I mean, that'd be great. I think City Feel will be a great
- 29:18venue or Yankee Stadium to do something like that, you know, that would
- 29:22be kind of special. But that being said, I want to sort of
- 29:26wrap with a couple more questions here. Yeah, firstly, is one sort
- 29:30of the culture change that I thought he was going to be in April after
- 29:34you made that incredible throw to nail down, you know, at third and
- 29:38all that on opening Day or home? Rather, is he the culture change
- 29:42that we thought or what I feel like his second part of the first half
- 29:47of the season has been, you know, since the Artist's Forum, a
- 29:49little a little slower. But what are your thoughts on him? Is he
- 29:52a culture change with his team? That's actually a very good question. Like
- 29:56I'm torn, I'm going to wrestle with this. I'm going to give you
- 30:00two sides to the snake gear. But like I would say, I wanted
- 30:04to say yes in the beginning and I was fully on blurred with that,
- 30:10And the second half of this beginning hasn't been in this goal. But he's
- 30:14still getting into He's still Homer. The other night, I know we won
- 30:18that game six to one, but like I think it's tough to say it's
- 30:22fully change the culture because of all the stuff we just still happened as bad
- 30:26stretch, Like I thought that was something we would get away from. But
- 30:29I'm not going to fully put it on him. But like there's issues with
- 30:32the team that go way deeper than him, Like I'm not sold them,
- 30:36like the structure of how they do things still, and like you see the
- 30:40pitching problem was there's nothing to do with him, and then the injury bove
- 30:44that continues to go over the team, and you have all these guys injuring
- 30:47the minors that no one even fully knows about. So I don't know.
- 30:51I can't say it's fully changed it, but I think he makes the team
- 30:53a lot better, if that's we'll say. You wish this team was the
- 30:57first pitch hitting team that the other Christmas I have heard of this team that
- 31:00if I'm hitting in the first picture taking their pictures, you know, the
- 31:03nineties teams are able to ground down all these pictures. But is this a
- 31:07different game where they have to swing it that first pitch. Sometimes I don't
- 31:11hate this first pitch hacking, but like again, like I need people who
- 31:14are more selective as well. The nineties teams they wore you down. The
- 31:18early two thousands team soons in a win, but those guys walked a lot
- 31:21too. I remember watching the guys grind and be a bat like the Giomis
- 31:26and the shares of the world, never really swarming a pitch the ain't like
- 31:30and that's you see what wants so it as well. I think if you're
- 31:34on the lower half of the batting order, you should be looking to jump
- 31:37the first pitch is more probably And on that note, uh, who will
- 31:45lead off in the second part of the season is going to go back to
- 31:48Bolpi? Is it going to be for Dugo? What are they gonna do?
- 31:52That's the problem as well, And I think they need to address that
- 31:53turn a trade deadline because I don't see anyone on this roster it's actually earned
- 31:59the right off. I mean ben Rice has been solid, but you don't
- 32:02put up probably not really honestly, he's probably better in the middle of the
- 32:07lower part of the order, within the five if you actually Ben Rice is
- 32:10hitting like in the six or seven hole, like that's why better way you're
- 32:14seeing Now. This is no discredit disrespect to him, but he's a rookie.
- 32:16You've been he's hitting first, it's hitting four, Like what are we
- 32:20doing out here? Like we need standing back? Like this isn't how it
- 32:22should be, all right, And on a person of your goals as a
- 32:29journalist, this entire rest of the season. Any big names you want to
- 32:32land to interview, either through your podcast or blog you're writing. What's your
- 32:37goals for the second part of the season, Yeah, I mean I want
- 32:42to get some more rain content on, some work to do later today and
- 32:47then like, yeah, interviews, like sure, yeah, I don't know
- 32:51the exact people right now, but like I definitely want to try to get
- 32:54some decent names for the show and all that, see what we could do.
- 32:58But like we'll see how that goes. I don't really happen anything to
- 33:02reveal right now. All right, well, we'll keep our eyes keep both
- 33:08your Twitter and your Instagram. On X you are mister Julian Guillardi g U
