- 0:36Let's kick it off. I'm your host Steve and I'm
- 0:39joined by Ash and us and it's been a good few weeks since us
- 0:43three caught up and what better way to catch up After beating
- 0:47Liverpool 32 on the weekend, Kobe maneu the winner to seal
- 0:52the double against Liverpool. I think the first time since the
- 0:55Louis Van Hall season. I think it is 20/15/16 I think.
- 1:01Was you there, Steve? No, I was that one field, but I
- 1:05I think I heard this season we'd done the double S when Wasa
- 1:08scored. I think it was one nil like half
- 1:11folly smashed it in the like in the top top of the net.
- 1:15But yeah, first time in 10 years we've done the double over
- 1:17Liverpool obviously secured Champions League football.
- 1:20So yeah, what a weekend to catch up.
- 1:22So us come to you enjoy that win against Liverpool.
- 1:25I. Only have one thing to say.
- 1:33Brilliant. Where's the final?
- 1:37Let's book it. Oh God, it's going to be nice.
- 1:40I mean, it's going to be nice. Let's be honest, at the start of
- 1:43the season we all said right, we've, we had a terrible season
- 1:48last season, but this team's better than that.
- 1:51Let's get back into Europe. That's what we want, right?
- 1:53That's what United's all about, minimum expectations to be back
- 1:58in the Champions League. It's just, it's just amazing.
- 2:01It's so good. Fully deserved as well.
- 2:05I think. I don't know what you guys
- 2:07think. I think we're the third best
- 2:09team in the league, don't you? I thought, I thought we did.
- 2:14You feel comfortable, guy? I felt fairly comfortable going
- 2:16into that game. I felt confident.
- 2:18I thought we could win the game. We started well.
- 2:20I think we got a bit complacent. It was almost too easy,
- 2:25definitely. So, yeah, really happy.
- 2:28I think the teams where it deserves to be, clubs where it
- 2:33deserves to be. And you know, maybe you have one
- 2:37or two good things to say about Ineos and the transfer business
- 2:40done in the summer because it's, you know, CUNY and Bumo.
- 2:44I know Laman's made a mistake, but he's he's been really good.
- 2:48Cesco, another goal I know you were all about on the Dockers
- 2:51train, but I think you know another one for Cesco is doing
- 2:54well. So really happy, great result
- 2:57and perfect team to, you know, put it to right to to finish it
- 3:01off. Just checked where the Champions
- 3:04League final is boys. Next year it's in Madrid.
- 3:08Really. Wow.
- 3:10Which Bernabeu or is that? Is that their first one or?
- 3:14I think so yeah. Champions League final.
- 3:16Yeah. OK, so yeah, interesting.
- 3:18I was like on, you know, we're clearly third in the league.
- 3:20So, you know, that would suggest we are the third best team in
- 3:23the league. I know you don't tend to watch
- 3:25much of the Sky Sports reaction these days, but I think Carriger
- 3:28and Neville were going at it on this point so obviously.
- 3:30Really. What were they saying?
- 3:31Oh, shock. So obviously Neville, Neville's
- 3:34saying so. You know what happened?
- 3:36The Miami Grand Prix got brought forward because of the weather.
- 3:38So I immediately was like, what's going on?
- 3:41I started. I've seen none of the coverage
- 3:43tell me what happened. OK, OK, so yeah, essentially,
- 3:47you know, Neville's obviously given it to Carriger.
- 3:49You know, Carriger's easy to wind up, especially after
- 3:51Liverpool lose. But basically Neville said, you
- 3:53know, we've done the double overview, we've finished third.
- 3:56So you know, United are the third best team.
- 3:58Carriger's brought up the point about we've had no Europe and
- 4:01we've got knocked out the Cup Cup competitions early.
- 4:04So obviously that's the rebuttal against it.
- 4:06Ash like do you buy that or? Do you not?
- 4:09Really. Because the league is the
- 4:11league, right? We know it's not the greatest
- 4:13league in the world, so Carrick and the players, to their credit
- 4:19are just doing everything they can.
- 4:21Like I think we're maximising almost everything we've got.
- 4:26Like we'll probably go into a bit more about, you know, the
- 4:30manager and, you know, where can the team go.
- 4:34But I think we talked about this like 12 months ago, maybe 18
- 4:39months ago, that if you just got any manager and he could play 43
- 4:43one, it will suit the squad. And Carrick's gone beyond that
- 4:47in terms of the the staff he's put together, the way he tries
- 4:52to play football. And I think that goes back to
- 4:54one of as his points, like with Ruben, that quality of players,
- 5:00you can only do so much. So hopefully now with a good
- 5:04transfer window, good couple of central midfielders, we can go
- 5:08beyond. So the people who are worried
- 5:11and the fans who are worried about Carrick next season,
- 5:13whether it's on squad rotation or the way we play, there should
- 5:18be, you know, an improvement. But yeah, going going back to it
- 5:22is like you can only deal with the circumstances that you've
- 5:27been given, right? Like if Carrick had 50 games to
- 5:29play then we'd see more, right? He's done everything he can,
- 5:34like he has done an absolutely magnificent job, yeah.
- 5:40Yeah, so like before we've talked Carrot then just sticking
- 5:43to the games. Obviously 2 pretty early goals
- 5:46from us, first one from Kunya, pretty nice finish, you know,
- 5:50kicked into the ground but still good finish and then the same.
- 5:53Just before the goals, and this is what we always talk about
- 5:56with United, the atmosphere, it was phenomenal.
- 6:00Like before the game, like the fans were singing the happy.
- 6:04We're not playing like, you know, Ferguson 2008 or like 1994
- 6:09football, but we're we're playing good football, football
- 6:12that is relatable to United fans front foot giving it a go and
- 6:16the players are working hard. So the atmosphere was absolutely
- 6:20incredible. And it wasn't even the cleanest
- 6:22strike. Steve and the roof lifted off.
- 6:26Yeah, early goal in these types of fixtures always help.
- 6:29Shout out to coach Raj in Stratford End leading, leading
- 6:32the charge. But Ash, we were actually at Old
- 6:34Trafford a week ago today. We were at the Brentford game,
- 6:37weren't we? And really that was a massive
- 6:39result leading up to the Liverpool game, right?
- 6:42Because I think we only needed two points to secure CL
- 6:45following that Brentford win. So, you know, that possibly took
- 6:49the pressure off a little bit heading into that Liverpool
- 6:51game. And then to get the early start,
- 6:54the second goal, what was that like?
- 6:55Was it 1520? Yeah.
- 6:58So going 2 nil up as I'm, I'm guessing you're starting to
- 7:01dream of like 5 nil 7 nil to get the revenge on Liverpool over
- 7:05the last few years. No, I never.
- 7:07Oh well, these big games, I've never liked that.
- 7:09I'm always nervous so I always. I respect Liverpool.
- 7:12They're still a good side and we're still fragile, right?
- 7:15We're not, we're not perfect. We've got a lot of results, but
- 7:20you know, you can still see there's frailties in the team.
- 7:24But what make the difference, in my opinion, is the firepower
- 7:28that we signed in the summer. We talked about that we'd lacked
- 7:31goals. We need goals.
- 7:32And you know, all this, the signings have have, you know,
- 7:36done really well. And my man Bruno Fernandez, who
- 7:40everyone doubted so many, so many times, he's just brilliant.
- 7:44When are people going to accept that Bruno Fernandez is one of
- 7:47the best players in the league if not this?
- 7:49Season does help when he plays his best position, but yeah.
- 7:52Yeah, but that's what I mean is he is class, right?
- 7:56He is class. And you know, I think him
- 8:02playing in central midfield has actually improved him.
- 8:04I think he's he's got even better.
- 8:06He's even calmer in possession. So I think, you know that, yeah,
- 8:12it's not ideal to have him so deep.
- 8:13It was sort of somewhat necessary just because of the
- 8:15makeup of the team. But Casimiro stepped up.
- 8:19Bruno's now got what I would consider the best position for
- 8:22him for sure. And yeah, the ball for Cesco,
- 8:25Lovely, lovely. He's just so good.
- 8:28Jenna scored. It's just so good.
- 8:33I mean, I don't know. I don't follow the sort of
- 8:35general fan base anymore. They're just, you know, I
- 8:39haven't got time for it. But what's the sentiment around
- 8:42them? Is the appreciation finally
- 8:44there that this is not just a hero bull merchant who just
- 8:47throws his arms up Or, you know, we need Scott back on.
- 8:50He's the the barometer, right, For Bruno.
- 8:52But what is the sentiment? Yeah, it's strong as in
- 8:56especially this season. Obviously he's on for the the
- 8:59assist record, right? Is he one off now?
- 9:01I think on equal in it. Do you know it's something
- 9:04really weird, right? When I checked fantasy league,
- 9:07which is obviously the official stats, it said 21 assists.
- 9:14Let me check if it's still the case.
- 9:16You guys carry on the thing with fantasy and 21.
- 9:20So I don't, I don't, I haven't been playing it properly this
- 9:23year, but I remember at the beginning of the year they they
- 9:25sort of simplified the assist rule.
- 9:28There was like, oh, if, if any kind of just to kind of get away
- 9:32from this controversy. And I think it's stricter.
- 9:35True assists are stricter than the fantasy assist probably.
- 9:37Because yesterday's one was obviously not an assist, but
- 9:41Fantasy League gave it yeah as an assert.
- 9:43Yeah, surely the fantasy league is run by the Premier League, so
- 9:47surely. That's the only reason I was
- 9:49like, hang on a second, because everyone keeps saying 19, so
- 9:51he's not even equalled it yet. And then I looked and it was
- 9:54like 21. I'm like, what?
- 9:55It's broken. It's like something's obviously
- 9:58and. Because I think in fantasy,
- 9:59because he was the last attacking player to touch the
- 10:02ball, yeah, it doesn't matter. The goalkeeper flapped at it.
- 10:05Still his assist. Yeah, but it's it's Premier
- 10:08League, like Premier League, fantasy league.
- 10:10Yeah, but they, they, you know what, There was a lot of
- 10:12complaints in FPL about what's in the system.
- 10:14What? No, seriously, it was a really
- 10:16no debate about what's in the system, what's not an assist.
- 10:21One thing I would say is like, you know, assists are a bit of a
- 10:25fuzzy number as well because you could just pass the ball to
- 10:29someone and he he dribbles past 10 players and you go, oh, yeah,
- 10:31of course. Do you know what I mean?
- 10:32Yeah. Or someone smashes it in from 30
- 10:34yards. But I think Bruno Fernandez Gen
- 10:37genuinely is playing beautiful creative.
- 10:40Football. Yeah, just.
- 10:42Quickly on that because I I saw it like flash up the other day.
- 10:46Who assisted Cristiano Ronaldo's 40 yard screamer against Porto
- 10:51in 2009? Carrick Anderson Place.
- 10:57Yeah. So it was Anderson.
- 11:00I can't even remember how I saw it.
- 11:02Oh, do you know what it it was like Rio's interview with
- 11:06Anderson. And I think I saw something, you
- 11:08know, like a. Oh, and Anderson brought up that
- 11:10assist. No, no, no.
- 11:12It was like a short related to the YouTube video, whatever.
- 11:15And Anderson actually plays like a inside forward pass, like with
- 11:20the instep of his foot. And it's just as this point,
- 11:23it's like, oh, well. So Anderson is, you know,
- 11:26credited with his his for that goal.
- 11:28Yeah, but I think in answer to as his question, like the fam
- 11:31United fan base, to be fair, even going back like last
- 11:35season, there was always an element and you know, that
- 11:38Bruno's temperament, you know, can be questioned at certain
- 11:42times. This season it's been pretty
- 11:43good apart from that head loss. Was it the Fulham away when he
- 11:46went mental in the record? He's got mental in this game.
- 11:49I saw him. Do you remember?
- 11:50There was that he was going. I thought he was going to get
- 11:52sent off at one point. I was he was going.
- 11:54Crazy at the referee. You know what?
- 11:57There's one point. Where I think the referee got in
- 11:58his way and he was going ballistic and he'd just been
- 12:01booked like through my calm down wait.
- 12:04I think I've seen a few games actually where he's still losing
- 12:09it with the players. But as I've always said, with
- 12:13these types of things, you're winning so no one picks up on
- 12:16it. So instead of being a moaning
- 12:19Wynjum twat, he's like a high standards, you know, the modern
- 12:24Portuguese, whatever. That's my issue is that a lot of
- 12:28the sentiment around players has always been if we're doing well,
- 12:31are we like these guys and if we're doing badly we don't.
- 12:34And I'm like, no, you've got to isolate the individual.
- 12:36Well, even when we're doing badly, Bruno was still
- 12:39performing. There's other players that were
- 12:41letting him down and his levels gone up, but him having good
- 12:44players around him has also helped.
- 12:46There's clubs. Finally, we supported him with
- 12:48proper. I also, I also think you know
- 12:52your point about like fan sentiment, I think it's based on
- 12:56like age. So if you're a kid or a
- 12:59teenager, I don't think that sentiment as that you you think
- 13:03of United fans with Bruno exists.
- 13:06They all love him because, one, he's a baller, two, he's the
- 13:10best player on the pitch and like, especially this season,
- 13:14you know he's producing, right? So I think it's the older crowd
- 13:18who've got a problem with him. Where is Scott?
- 13:20He's getting back on. He's he's busy campaigning for
- 13:25Ireola instead of Carrick. Oh.
- 13:26Is he? Interesting.
- 13:28Yeah, we'll come on to, we'll come on to that later.
- 13:30But just on the Bruno point again, we had Ian Irving on a
- 13:33few weeks ago and Ian is big on Bruno getting the player of the
- 13:38season this year, so. Instead of him because I can't
- 13:41think of a name. Well, that's the thing, Tell.
- 13:43Me a name. I cannot think of a name.
- 13:45Rice. OK, can rice Gabriel would be
- 13:48like, you know, based on continuation as Bruno.
- 13:52Yeah, especially last few months.
- 13:53I agree both. Been really good.
- 13:56They both deserve to be mentioned in the conversation,
- 14:00but they haven't been as good as Bruno.
- 14:03Yeah. You know, another thing with the
- 14:04player of the year, I mean, I don't really take notice of it,
- 14:07but like, especially remembering like I know late 90s or like
- 14:10naughties, it's like the player who's in the best form around
- 14:15like March, April, they normally actually get it because that's
- 14:18the business end of the season. Like, you can say what you want.
- 14:21Like, you know, a goal in August and a goal in April is the same
- 14:25thing. But it's sentiment.
- 14:28It's the storylines. And, you know, I'd love to see
- 14:32the breakdown, for example, of like, Bruno's assist record
- 14:35since Reuben left because, you know, it must have gone through
- 14:38the roof. Well, I think, I think the
- 14:40chance creation has gone through the roof since Carrot came in
- 14:44because obviously Bruno started playing #10 So yeah, that's
- 14:49that's clear. But yeah, with the with the
- 14:50player of the season, like, yeah, he's got to be in for a
- 14:54shout. But you know, I think again, Ian
- 14:55mentioned that he he did some analysis on whether the player
- 14:59of the season has been for the title winners over the last like
- 15:021010 to 20 years. I think he looked back and only
- 15:05like half of the time I think it was where it was a player from
- 15:09the title winning team. So it's not like it has to be,
- 15:12you know, from the Champions where you have the player of the
- 15:14season. As remember the 90s like United
- 15:17would win the league every year. Barely any of those players.
- 15:21You know United players won it right?
- 15:22It would be like Shearer, Ferdinand, Fowler, whoever,
- 15:26right? Like yeah, I can understand.
- 15:28You get a bit of a split vote I think.
- 15:31David General is the famous. One sometimes us, the club might
- 15:34not be the most popular as well, so you don't want to, but I just
- 15:37think I really do think of all the of all the players in the
- 15:42league. I, I I'm also biassed towards
- 15:45attacking players. I think attacking is a harder
- 15:48facet of the game than defending and yeah, it's brilliant.
- 15:53It's wonderful to watch. I'm really happy that, you know,
- 15:56we have him at the club and he'll probably stay a few more
- 15:59years now and. Yeah, he has a buyout, though.
- 16:04Yeah, new friend of the pod, Daniel Khan from Sky Sports told
- 16:08us that he has AI. Think it's £60 million.
- 16:13I I think there's an expiration date on it.
- 16:16If someone should, but someone should.
- 16:18If I was, I don't know, just make a name up Bayern Munich or
- 16:22whatever who's been linked to them.
- 16:23Yeah, I would definitely try and trigger it.
- 16:27Yeah, but you'd hope that Bruno is like, no, I've got a I've got
- 16:32unfinished business at United. Now that we're in the Champions
- 16:35League, he'll give it a go. I.
- 16:38Think his contract's up right? Is it next year or is it might
- 16:43be 1 + 1? It's probably a + 1.
- 16:47Just going back to the game quickly in terms of that
- 16:49second-half, like, you know, conceding the goals and being on
- 16:52the ropes a bit. Ash, did that concern you?
- 16:55Because again, at the Brentford game we were at kind of similar
- 16:58thing happened where, you know, we were pretty good to begin
- 17:00with and then, you know, we we were on the back foot.
- 17:03So is that concerning? It's concerning, but all I would
- 17:07say is if you think about like the neatness of this squad, like
- 17:13the defenders, Casimiro, even Bruno, I'm not blaming Bruno,
- 17:18but like that Nicholas of team, we've been doing it even in the
- 17:22Eric 10 hard days. So this is kind of like a
- 17:25pattern of of this, you know, team just generally.
- 17:29So yeah, it's a concern. Luckily, there's only three
- 17:32games to go, so hopefully there's not too much to worry
- 17:36about. So yeah, look, I I you could
- 17:39pick holes, particularly with the SEC.
- 17:42Sorry, the first goal, like I mean, slob aside just runs for
- 17:46like 50 yards without no one even coming close to a tackle.
- 17:51You know, McGuire and Dallow just seem to back off good for
- 17:55and it's the thing like even the good Dallow, right?
- 17:57I have to give it to Dallow. He's been really good or really
- 18:01improved anyway, right? And I give a lot of credit to
- 18:04the to Carrick and the coaching * but this is it, right?
- 18:08It's like if you want to think about that next level and
- 18:11whether it's in two years time, you still need a, you still need
- 18:15a better right back. You're still going to need a
- 18:17better sensor back. So, you know, it's like step by
- 18:20step, isn't it? But yeah, it was concerning.
- 18:24And what about the? Silly second goal.
- 18:27Yeah, as you mentioned it, right, Lamont's mistake for
- 18:30Liverpool's second goal, like, yeah, he's been, he's had a
- 18:32very, very good season, so difficult to criticise him too
- 18:35much. But yeah, that was a big moment
- 18:36in a big game. Obviously we got the win, but
- 18:39poor, poor mistake really right? It was, but it happened.
- 18:42A lot of the best goalkeepers have done it.
- 18:44Who are the two best in the league?
- 18:46Probably Raya and Donna Rumour and they've done similar things
- 18:48at various points rates so he he could argue that he's one of the
- 18:54top three goalkeepers in the league since he's come in and
- 18:57this is a kid he's been really good.
- 18:59I want to say you know like all play.
- 19:03Ahmad gave the ball away for the first goal right as well.
- 19:07The midfield was just like walked through and then yeah,
- 19:13lemons gives the ball away. 2 poor goals to be honest.
- 19:17But yeah, we won the game. So yeah, exactly you.
- 19:21Kind of get you can get over it. I'm I, I think he made sees he's
- 19:24made some greats. You were the Brentford game.
- 19:27You were saying he made some top saves in that game.
- 19:30Yeah, yeah. 3-4 saves gave me kind of sort of early Dehaya
- 19:34sort of vibes. Some one of those ones where he
- 19:36clawed one out. Yeah.
- 19:39It was like, that is going in and he's just somehow clawed it
- 19:43out the net and put it around the post.
- 19:45Yeah. So I was.
- 19:47I was like, yeah, top, top kid. I'm sure you would have missed
- 19:51it, but actually I in the Let's kick it off United community, I
- 19:55did actually message I think a few days ago and said the one
- 19:58thing I'll give idiots credit for is Lamans.
- 20:01You're not giving them credit for Dorgu, for Aiden Heaven.
- 20:04We'll. See, we'll see early days.
- 20:07He's been, I think heaven's one of the signings.
- 20:09He's been good, he's been good. Chelsea away.
- 20:12Chelsea away. He's really good.
- 20:14That kid is good. He's really good on the ball,
- 20:17he's calm, he's composed. I think the, you know, Embumo,
- 20:22Cunias, Cesco have done what we hoped they would do, score
- 20:25about. It's about 30 goals between
- 20:27them, something like that. They haven't played every minute
- 20:29as well. But I think they were more
- 20:31obvious signings, the Lomond's one no one knew about and the
- 20:35way he's come in one of the biggest clubs in the world that
- 20:38that you have to give credit for whoever.
- 20:40Really, he was supposed to be a number 2.
- 20:42That's been, you know, said by everyone now.
- 20:45So like all the journos, they all say clearly he came in as a
- 20:49#2. So picked a good one, right?
- 20:52Like, yeah. Yeah, yeah, he's a good.
- 20:54I mean, he's really good. He he's Ron was the first one to
- 20:58call it like the closest thing to Edwin Bandasar and I, I
- 21:02definitely see I. Think Edwin his sort of role
- 21:06model or his one of his favourite.
- 21:07Yeah, I think so something like that, the whole Belgium Dutch
- 21:10connection. But he's just so calm.
- 21:13And I I I think I mentioned that to someone recently in that, you
- 21:19know, it's complete, you know, zero to 100 in terms of banana
- 21:24complete mayhem and that doesn't help the defence.
- 21:28And you got like Mr Cool Lamont's, you know, he settled
- 21:33the defence down so. So it's hard to have a go at him
- 21:35too much, right for I know it was a big moment and you know,
- 21:38we conceded the goal, but he's been, he's had a really good
- 21:40season. But United fans cursed it as
- 21:42well, right? Because I think there was a
- 21:44start. He made no errors in the Premier
- 21:46League this season, so obviously that was the first.
- 21:49One, but also you've got to bear in mind, it's not like we've
- 21:53been excessively playing out from the back.
- 21:57So it's it's it's it's not one. He's he's semi new to it, but
- 22:02also just the team as well. So you can make mistakes, you
- 22:07know, you know when you know when Arteta first came in as an
- 22:10example or Guardiola first came in, they struggled in their
- 22:15build up because it takes time to implement the new patterns,
- 22:19right. So we've got a new manager who's
- 22:20asking, you know, to do certain slightly different things.
- 22:26You will see these errors and hopefully they iron out over
- 22:29time. I don't think he is the best in
- 22:30the world with the ball at his feet, no.
- 22:33But he's he's kid. He's hopefully he can improve on
- 22:36that side of his game. You know, if we're talking
- 22:39Belgium, right, he he, he to me, he's probably closer to a
- 22:42Courtois right then he is a ball playing goalkeeper.
- 22:45He he catches the ball, makes saves that you expect.
- 22:50And we've seen kind of recently, and Steve, you mentioned it, the
- 22:53Brentford game, he did make a couple of kind of like Dehaya
- 22:57Res saves where he's clawing it out from the corner.
- 22:59But the seven out of 10 saves that you expect, he, he, he
- 23:04saves those. And you know what, we're all
- 23:06cricket fans. It's so good that he catches it.
- 23:09He barely punches. He he claims the ball, which is
- 23:12great. Yeah, no, definitely.
- 23:14And then obviously 22, right. And you think we've thrown away
- 23:17the lead and Mr New Contract steps up with the winner.
- 23:21And I actually want to just quickly roll it back from the
- 23:25podcast this season and just play a little clip to you guys.
- 23:28It's not a disgrace, it's a show of the strength of the squad
- 23:31that he isn't. The best, yeah.
- 23:33He's not the squad that finished 15th.
- 23:35He's not as good as seven. He's not.
- 23:37He's not as good as He's not as good as Cuna or Ember Embermo in
- 23:40the number 10 and he's not as good as a brainer this.
- 23:43Is this is the disgrace on us? He's not as good.
- 23:45We can't get on the team. Because they're better players
- 23:48than him. They're not.
- 23:48He's the best player in that squad.
- 23:51Instead Steve, he's better. He's.
- 23:54It's the manager's choice, right?
- 23:55In terms of the system, what? Is this based on?
- 23:57What is this based? On the guy's class, have you
- 23:59never watched him play football? Have you not played football
- 24:01yourself? If you play football and you
- 24:03watch Kobe Mainu, you know he's a top player.
- 24:06I rest my case I. Don't.
- 24:10Haven't changed my mind on that as well.
- 24:12Keir Starmer. No, no, I haven't.
- 24:14You can't. You can't.
- 24:15Like Keir Starmer doesn't have an opinion.
- 24:18Keir Starmer is an idiot. No, no, I'm serious.
- 24:20I haven't changed my mind on that.
- 24:21I still love Kobe menu. I still think he's a brilliant
- 24:24footballer. Right.
- 24:26I do think that Cunia and Burmo and Bruno are better than him
- 24:31ahead of him. So you know what's interesting,
- 24:34right? So everyone obviously says in
- 24:36Reuben's team copy didn't fit in, but in Reuben's team you had
- 24:41A2 in front of a back three and then two number 10.
- 24:44So, so, so he could have played. So you got 2IN midfield in
- 24:48Carrick system, right? And two in midfield in brewing
- 24:51system. That's what I'm saying, yeah.
- 24:53So yeah, it's there's no difference there.
- 24:56The difference is you have to drop someone.
- 25:00Yeah, that's it. There was a difference.
- 25:02No, you have to. Carrick, yeah, Carrick played
- 25:05Bruno in his best position, which is further, and Reuben
- 25:09decided to play Bruno deeper. Yeah, that's it.
- 25:13So you'd have to you put Bru. But it's a poor, it's a poor
- 25:16choice from the manager. No, it could have been Reuben.
- 25:20Yeah, that's the thing. I'm, I'm not.
- 25:21I'm not so fixated on that. I thought if you put Bruno
- 25:25forward, you have to drop one of them.
- 25:26Boom, Mokuna Cesco. That's all.
- 25:28That's all it is. Like you.
- 25:30Know. But do you know why I was so big
- 25:32on it? Because we've all played
- 25:33football, right? And we know the hardest thing to
- 25:36do on the football pitch is to play sentiment field and pass
- 25:39the ball through the lines. That's why I love Carrick so
- 25:42much, right? But I think Bruno's better at
- 25:43him than that. That's my point.
- 25:45I still. Think take the ball on the half
- 25:47turn. I think and beat and beat
- 25:49players. Kobe Matineau is the best player
- 25:52we have and one of the best in the league under pressure on the
- 25:55dribble. Yeah, he's so good.
- 25:57Like he's got a unique talent that should be harnessed because
- 26:03it's quite a rare talent. But Bruno Fernandez is a better
- 26:08footballer, even in central midfield.
- 26:11And yeah, but. That's that's not the point,
- 26:13right, Because we're not comparing the two.
- 26:15We are because we're saying that in that system you're going to
- 26:18play the front 3 and so you now have two in midfield.
- 26:21Now you have to choose to put. I'll tell you what then I'll
- 26:24I'll make it simple and and you know, I said it on that clip,
- 26:28it's the managers fault. It's the managers ice Reuben.
- 26:32Reuben messed that up. Carrick's got it right.
- 26:35The results are there. The performance is there.
- 26:40And also Bruno's stepped up to a new level since moving into #10
- 26:44and not. Up to a new level, but I would
- 26:46say the system as it is is less good for Ahmad, for Embumo and
- 26:53for Kunia. So this is the thing you you
- 26:56have trade-offs to trade-offs. Chose 1 trade off which is
- 27:00actually I'd prefer three at the back which solidifies the
- 27:04defence a bit so that the two in front have a bit more protection
- 27:07and I have two number 10s who are closer to the striker which
- 27:12suits Cunia and suits in boomo. They're better than playing out
- 27:15too too wide, right? Yeah, but that logic didn't
- 27:18work. That's the point, right?
- 27:20But we didn't see the no. I would say that if we're going
- 27:24back to Reuben here, I don't think for me, I think I'd be
- 27:27happy, happy with Carrick playing 343.
- 27:29I think he moved to 343 in the Brentford game.
- 27:31I have no issue with the system. My issue with Reuben was he was
- 27:34just too crazy. He lost himself mentally.
- 27:37We needed calm. I think what Carrick's bought is
- 27:39not a 4231 for me. He's bought calm to the club.
- 27:43He he's a presence on the. I totally disagree because the
- 27:48Carrick is always calm right? Like even when he's angry, you
- 27:51can't tell because. Yeah, but my point is, I don't
- 27:54think he's Mr Chill. I I don't think that the the
- 27:59whole thing is just the system. I think it's Carrick himself.
- 28:04You know, obviously personality matters, instructions matter,
- 28:07but like. And I think Carrick went to it.
- 28:09I think Carrick played the same system as Reuben.
- 28:13I think we'd have the same result.
- 28:15That's what I I I don't think it's a system thing.
- 28:18I think so, you think if Carrick had Casimiro and Bruno in the
- 28:24two played a back three Bruno and sorry Kunya and and Bumo in
- 28:30the 10s you think we'd be furred with the amount the same amount
- 28:34of points? Yeah, I think it's Carrick.
- 28:36That's the point though, isn't it?
- 28:37It's personnel that Carrick's decided to bring Koby back into
- 28:41the team. Yeah, Koby's.
- 28:42Koby's done really well. I think he did he get man of the
- 28:44match. I'm assuming so, but I thought
- 28:50you saw all the flaws in his game in this game like we were
- 28:52getting that our midfield was getting run through and.
- 28:55Yeah, it's not perfect. I want to talk about this, so
- 28:57I'll let you make your point. So our midfield is getting run
- 29:00through because it's just the nature of the players, right?
- 29:03Casimiro and Kobe are just not fast.
- 29:05And then behind them you've got a Harry Maguire.
- 29:07So like it makes somewhat make sense to play a back three.
- 29:11I think Dog, who's a better wing back than a full back?
- 29:13I don't think he's a wing, but a full back really.
- 29:16I think he's a wingback. I think Ahmad's better as a wing
- 29:19back than a winger or he's not a fullback.
- 29:21No, he's a winger, he's a winger.
- 29:23Yeah, but he is a winger. But I think the wingback role
- 29:26suited him. Playing with him.
- 29:27Boomer, I think they paired well together.
- 29:29And then Bumo and Cunha, I think they get a bit isolated when
- 29:33they have to play too wide. They're not.
- 29:35They're better when they get the chance to come in.
- 29:39So when it works and then when the full backs overlap together
- 29:42like I what I liked about this game is the finest on Luke.
- 29:44Sure. I felt getting forward more,
- 29:47we've been lacking that width, right.
- 29:49So I think if we could, yeah, I for me, it's not a system.
- 29:55You know, me, I'm quite flexible on systems.
- 29:57I think Ollie himself, who Carrick was coach underplayed
- 30:01multiple systems and it I think we need, we needed better
- 30:04players. We've got better players,
- 30:05they've settled in more, they've delivered the goods.
- 30:08Bruno stepped up to a new level. I love Kobe Mainu and he has
- 30:12been really good and he's developing his game and we and
- 30:15really happy he signed a contract.
- 30:17He he didn't play enough under Ruben.
- 30:18I think Ruben neglected him and was just a bit too stubborn
- 30:21about it. But I don't think it's suddenly
- 30:24like, oh, you know why we're third?
- 30:26It's because he's playing Kobe Maney.
- 30:27I think it's massive. Saturation.
- 30:29Not that. So there's, there's loads of
- 30:31parts, but I, I do want to pick up on this Kobe Maney
- 30:35improvement thing, right? Like for months whilst he's been
- 30:39playing and getting better. Let's put some perspective on
- 30:42it. The kid just turned 21, I think
- 30:45yesterday, OK, the best midfielders that me and us have
- 30:50seen you, Steve as well over the last 20 years.
- 30:53So what? We're talking Steven Gerrard,
- 30:56Roy Keane, Patrick Vieira, Javi from Barcelona, Iniesta, right?
- 31:03I'm just giving. I can't believe you're.
- 31:04Right. Did you not say Paul Skulls?
- 31:07Paul skulls, right? What did you say?
- 31:10Steven Gerrard and not Paul Skulls.
- 31:13No, no. What?
- 31:15What were they all doing at 20 years old?
- 31:19Right. I can give you a little list.
- 31:20Paul Skulls was playing up front.
- 31:23Gerard was like a crazy midfielder doing everything.
- 31:26Right back when he playing. Patrick Vieira was like AC Milan
- 31:29doing nothing but before Wenger picking him up and the two that
- 31:33I want to pick out because I've watched their whole careers.
- 31:36I don't know if as remembers it, you know, because I was having a
- 31:39bit of an argument with Cabs as well last night and he
- 31:42definitely watched these two is Javi and Iniesta.
- 31:46Now Iniesta, when he was under Reichard, he would get about
- 31:5150-60 minutes and doesn't matter what happens, he was coming off
- 31:55the pitch at like 2021 years old.
- 31:58Because as a 2021 year old in midfield, there's there's only
- 32:02so much like stamina you've got, there's only so much control you
- 32:06can have because you get fatigued.
- 32:08And then was Xavi. It was exactly the same.
- 32:10Javi didn't come the midfielder that we all know until about
- 32:142425. And that was kind of like a
- 32:17crossover between Reichard and Pet.
- 32:19So Modric. Is, well, maybe.
- 32:21Yeah, Modric is. He's a good example.
- 32:24But my point is, it's just like, everyone just calm down.
- 32:29The kid just turned 21. This podcast is sponsored by Go

- 32:57soon. There's only one topic left to
- 32:59discuss. The F1.
- 33:01I've got the contract. I've got the contract right
- 33:03here. Oh, you've.
- 33:03Got is that Michael? Any any number on it, you're
- 33:07giving Michael Carrick Carrick the contract.
- 33:10Unless Lewis Enrique calls me. Yeah, I I think the only two
- 33:16people who could make me change my mind is Luis Enrique and
- 33:22Carlo Angela. If Thomas Teacle decided to call
- 33:25me, I wouldn't answer the phone. Yeah, so given that it's
- 33:29unlikely those two are available, Carrick gets the nod.
- 33:34Yeah, I think for now, I mean, look, everyone's going to be
- 33:37like, oh, what are you going to do?
- 33:39Blah, blah, blah. It's like, look, real simple.
- 33:42Give him a 2 + 1 or a three-year contract break clauses, right?
- 33:46So you're covered on that. Give them a good transfer
- 33:49window. If we finish top four and you
- 33:54know, like we see improvement, we'll, you know, it's what you
- 33:57guys were saying with your master plan with Reuben, right?
- 34:00Wait till World Cup 2026 who's available and we'll pick a
- 34:04manager. Turns out they've all signed
- 34:06extensions, right? So we just have to see almost on
- 34:10a yearly basis. So if Louis Enrique is available
- 34:13next year and unless Carrick's won the title, I'm probably
- 34:16going to get Lewis Enrique for me.
- 34:22I'd stick with Carrick. I, I, I, I can say again, it's
- 34:26the the team behind the scenes who are going to do the
- 34:29transfers. It'll determine most of
- 34:32everything. And you've got a guy in the
- 34:34building that you know clearly is a good coach.
- 34:37Clearly he can handle the media and stay calm.
- 34:43I don't see a better option. Lewis, Enrique.
- 34:49He's risky 100% I love Lewis. There's a risk.
- 34:52But yeah, I I think he's a brilliant, brilliant man, Great
- 34:57manager. Has he, is this team a Lewis
- 35:02Enrique team? You know, do you know what I
- 35:04mean? It's like it.
- 35:05Feel like you're you're assuming you're going to get better
- 35:08players. And this is what I was trying to
- 35:11say earlier. I think Carrick has put a
- 35:13framework in for any decent manager where they could evolve
- 35:18this team now, right? He's put and This is why I think
- 35:21the system is actually important.
- 35:23Lewis Enrique, would he's done that start?
- 35:25Again and do his own thing he would the thing that Enrique
- 35:29Enrique would want to dominate the ball more than Karen no, but
- 35:32he would get we we play a lot more yeah, we play a lot of
- 35:35still a lot of counter attack right it's it's it's what we're.
- 35:38Yeah, but that's because of the team as well.
- 35:40Like Andy Mitter made this point a couple of weeks ago.
- 35:43You know, he was saying from good sources in the club, like
- 35:46Carrick actually wants to play really dominant control in
- 35:49football, but he's working with what he's got.
- 35:52And to me, that is the sign of an excellent manager who's
- 35:55flexible and. Understand and I don't I don't
- 35:57know if Enrique is that's my. Point.
- 35:58What about Carlo Us? What about Carlo, if Carlo was
- 36:00available? I don't see the point.
- 36:03No. What about Carlo and then
- 36:05Carrick? I was going to say and then.
- 36:06It's my, it's my old thing. Can we have Carlo or Southgate
- 36:09with Carrick as assistant? But I just is.
- 36:12Not with Southgate, with Carlo I would.
- 36:14OK. But you know what I mean?
- 36:15Like the Statesman with with the coaching staff, I mean.
- 36:19Yeah, but that's important because like Carlo is like that
- 36:22level above, especially even young players, they know Carlo
- 36:27better than they do Gareth Southgate.
- 36:30Maybe like, you know, Southgate managed a lot of the England
- 36:32boys. Kobe may know as well.
- 36:33But irrespective, yeah. You think Carrick's done enough
- 36:37to deserve? He's done enough.
- 36:38Yeah, of course he's done enough.
- 36:42You're not committing to him with a six year contract like
- 36:45with David Moyes. You're basically saying right,
- 36:48we're in a transition period. The the games that you've had up
- 36:51to this point, you've done well enough.
- 36:54You deserve to take this team on and the most important thing is
- 36:57let's see what happens with recruitment in the summer.
- 37:01Yeah, same way you know, Ollie deserved his chance and he did
- 37:04well. Right came what was it third and
- 37:08then second so. Steve Characters.
- 37:13As well. And, and, and I'm sure at the
- 37:15end of it people be like, yeah, Carrick, he's a clown, blah,
- 37:17blah, blah. And I'll be like, well, no, he
- 37:19actually, if he comes third and 2nd, I'll take it.
- 37:23I'll play playing the Champions League music on a regular basis.
- 37:28Steve, before you give your answer, I just wanted to give
- 37:30some other stats right about Carrick because I just saw them
- 37:34like flash up earlier today. So since he's taken over, he's
- 37:39played fourteen games. He's five points clear of any
- 37:42other Premier League team in terms of form Guide like I keep
- 37:47hearing about this Newcastle defeat.
- 37:50Let's get some perspective. 14 games, 2 defeats, right?
- 37:55And where we were praising Reuben through the hell of like,
- 37:58oh, we're undefeated in 15, of which probably nine of them were
- 38:01draws. Michael Carrick has won ten
- 38:05Premier League games, and that list includes Liverpool,
- 38:10Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea, away, Aston Villa.
- 38:15So like please like. What's this about Newcastle?
- 38:20Who's saying anything about Newcastle?
- 38:23I I hear it continuously, like when anyone tries to think about
- 38:27like, oh what are the negatives of Michael Carrick?
- 38:30They bang on about the Newcastle performance as if no other team
- 38:34has had a bad day at Saint James's.
- 38:36Park well, the other thing is they bang on about he's he's not
- 38:39had any Europore Cup competitions and he's been lucky
- 38:41because of that and he's not been, he's not had to really
- 38:44ride out a tough patch yet. But he's been manager of
- 38:48Middlesbrough. Daniel Khan again, you know, he
- 38:50follows Championship football way better than we can.
- 38:54Week out you're playing three games a week.
- 38:57He had two years at Middlesbrough fighting for
- 39:00playoffs, so he knows what run-of-the-mill looks like.
- 39:03Obviously it's another level, but it goes back to the same
- 39:07point. It's like, well, what are the
- 39:08alternatives? And there's there's no one,
- 39:11there's no one that good. He and he's done a magnificent.
- 39:14These things have been in his favour, but these are things
- 39:17that we predicted at the start of the season would be in the
- 39:19favour of us. I said this, yeah, at the
- 39:21second-half of the season we are, but.
- 39:23Reuben wouldn't have finished third.
- 39:24Reuben would have like even got top five.
- 39:29Probably correct. I agree again, but I think it's
- 39:32the character, right? I don't think he would have.
- 39:34I think we could have still qualified for Europe, but
- 39:37Carrick. Has no, we would have qualified
- 39:38for you. We probably just would have
- 39:40qualified for Europe. But we're talking Europa
- 39:43Conference, we're not talking 5th.
- 39:45I think when Reuben left we were as close to the relegation zone
- 39:50as we were looking up. So.
- 39:52Yeah, Carrick's. Completely let's let's do the
- 39:55the kind of, you know, I'm a bit I'm very biassed to Michael
- 39:57Carrick. Let's just put the kind of
- 39:59alternative argument hat on and just be like, look.
- 40:05We had AFCON at that time and bad injuries.
- 40:07It was natural the team was going to get better.
- 40:10The fixture list cleared up a bit and then some of the AFCON
- 40:13players came back. A lot of the players settled a
- 40:16bit more as well. We always, always said to you
- 40:18guys, you know, look, Cunya, Cesco and Boomo second-half, you
- 40:23know, give him a bit of time to settle down.
- 40:25So I can see all of that. Irrespective of all of that,
- 40:28irrespective of the fact we haven't had Europe, blah, blah,
- 40:31blah, he's done a good job. And he just said I don't see
- 40:33what the what the point of trying someone else is unless
- 40:36that someone else has top, top pedigree.
- 40:39We're like, oh, I have a plan in place.
- 40:41A bit like you were saying, Ash, you know, Jurgen Klopp's on the
- 40:44sidelines and he's my dream candidate.
- 40:47And if I don't get that that dream candidate now, I might
- 40:50miss out on the dream candidate. But tell me who this dream
- 40:53candidate is, because I like Carlo Angelotti, but he's not a
- 40:56you know, like I really love him.
- 40:58He's amazing, but I don't see him as a manager in five years
- 41:00time. Like Clops, clops, the guy that
- 41:02you're like, OK, I'm going to take him and it's a project or
- 41:05Pep Guardiola when City gone take him.
- 41:07It's we're trying to rebuild the club a little bit through this
- 41:10phase. Carrick's as good as anyone to
- 41:12do that in my opinion. And if you see like Dabby Alonso
- 41:17is an excellent. I wouldn't.
- 41:18I'm not taking Zabby Alonso, Liverpool United, right?
- 41:21I've taken him at Liverpool. I'm not taking him at United.
- 41:24So then who? Last point on start.
- 41:25Who around Madrid getting his manager apparently going for
- 41:28Chelsea? Marini.
- 41:29Jose Marini is this is I'm telling you, who do you want,
- 41:32right? Chelsea, very full cycle now,
- 41:35Chelsea, Stephen, Then I'll let you answer, right, Because I was
- 41:37just looking at the league table because I was kind of fascinated
- 41:40about like how you know, for example, if Reuben was in
- 41:43charge, right? I mentioned we won 10 games,
- 41:46right? We're six points clearer of
- 41:49Liverpool. So even like say if we didn't
- 41:52beat Man City and Arsenal, we'd be like 4th and 5th even with
- 41:56Michael Carrick. So for me there is just like no
- 41:59way Ruben would have just collected that amount of points
- 42:02to be able to get top five. But anyway, Steve, tell us what
- 42:06is your managerial plan? Well, and tell us about any us.
- 42:10Yeah, we have to do a separate part on the process, but I think
- 42:13Gary Neville probably summed it up quite nicely.
- 42:15Although encountered to the point he was trying to make
- 42:18cause Garry's been against Carrick getting the job from
- 42:21when he first came in and he's still trying to hold out on that
- 42:24position. But his argument bizarrely was
- 42:28Carrick keeps the fans happy, he keeps the team happy and he
- 42:32keeps the board happy. So surely that's like you're
- 42:35ticking all boxes, right? It's a no brainer.
- 42:37Like he's the perfect man in this structure as well.
- 42:40Working with Wilcox, he's not going to kick up a fast.
- 42:43He deserves it with the results that he's achieved and most
- 42:46importantly, alternatives. There's no silver bullet.
- 42:50These big names that we're talking about, they're not in
- 42:52the mix right now. Carlo, Enrique, even Thomas, too
- 42:55cool. They're not sitting there
- 42:57waiting. The alternatives we're looking
- 42:58at are Iriola Glasner, Marco Silva.
- 43:02No, no, no. Do you know what I mean?
- 43:04Eddie Howe. So that's the position we're in
- 43:06and. Please know Thomas Frank.
- 43:09Oh yeah, exactly so. Would you even want Thomas
- 43:12Tookel like if it was available? No, he's the opposite of what I
- 43:15want because this is my point. Like you want someone who isn't
- 43:18going to conflict with the board.
- 43:20We need to get the transfer windows correct.
- 43:22And I don't want Thomas Tookel come in and going, right.
- 43:24Yeah, let's get Eric Dyer and you know, Joe Paolini or
- 43:27whatever other 2829 year old we want to go and get the 22 to 25
- 43:33year olds and the names we're being linked with.
- 43:37I like, you know, I know Elliot Anderson's probably going to Man
- 43:42City, but you know, I'm sure we'll be linked again with
- 43:44Belieber. I know he hasn't had the best
- 43:46season, but at least, you know, young player, good profile.
- 43:49I'm sure he can get over it and do well at United.
- 43:52There's another good one, right? We've been linked to it.
- 43:55I'm sure Adam Warton will get like mentioned again and that's
- 43:58it. Oh, sure, sure, many.
- 44:00I mean, sure, many would be. The only thing is I haven't
- 44:03watched as much of, I don't watch as much football outside
- 44:08the Premier League and. You'd be suspicious about why
- 44:12Rahel is selling him, right? I can imagine.
- 44:14As if he There's a few reasons. Yeah, I can imagine Rayal sell
- 44:18because they often sell good players and that player might
- 44:21not be perfect for Real Madrid. This is the point, yeah.
- 44:27But is he might be. He could be good for us.
- 44:29But I remember watching him initially the thing was he at
- 44:33Monaco before this as well. So and that was like COVID when
- 44:37I was just watching too much football and I was like, oh,
- 44:40this is guy's perfect for Ollie's central midfield, like
- 44:43very physical strong. So if we can get one of those to
- 44:46play with Kobe, lots of legs, power, height, humany, that
- 44:53would be amazing. But.
- 44:54Just needs to check the injury record because I think he's been
- 44:58patchy. But the other thing is, I mean,
- 45:01look, he would improve the team and there's no doubt because the
- 45:05baseline's pretty low. But the other thing is he's been
- 45:10used kind of like sparingly between central midfield, centre
- 45:13back. He's a bit like Cam of Inga.
- 45:16They fill him with gaps. And he deserves to play.
- 45:19Yeah, from the field, he's good enough. 100% he's like 25 going
- 45:23on 26, so it'd be the right time.
- 45:25But yeah, Steve's right. Like you got to be wary because
- 45:29like, is this just a play for a new contract and and?
- 45:32Also, I agree with Ineos. This is a good thing with Ineos.
- 45:36One of the things maybe Steve would admit, one good thing of
- 45:40Ineos somewhere is that, you know, they're not going to go
- 45:43and be like, oh, yeah, let's pay for 400 grand a week.
- 45:46And I don't, you know, do you know what I mean?
- 45:48Like, this is what the Glazes or Edward would would do.
- 45:50Oh, yeah. That's that's The Who was that
- 45:53guy who came on one of those pods, The lawyer guy, I can't
- 45:57remember. He was talking about the
- 45:58Casimiro deal. Absolutely.
- 46:00Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 46:02Well, that's just the market price we had to pay it.
- 46:04It's like, no you don't mate. Moron.
- 46:06You have to have a wage structure.
- 46:08You've got to be sensible, right?
- 46:09You can call Ineos type, but to me they're being sensible.
- 46:12They they held Cobby Mainu all the way right to say no, no, you
- 46:15can't be overpaid. And it makes sense.
- 46:18You want to have a sensible good working structure.
- 46:22And if Trumani asks for 400 grand, you just say no to him if
- 46:25he's willing to pay in the wage structure.
- 46:27Depends too, right? Like, you know, if Bruno was
- 46:29going to renew, for example, or even you're going in for a Harry
- 46:32Kane, then you might break for you.
- 46:35Know, to be fair to Jim again, I hate defending Jim so much.
- 46:40It's just the nature of you hating him so much.
- 46:43But he always said that. He always said, Oh yeah, Bruno,
- 46:45he deserves the money, right? Because that the exceptional
- 46:49player deserves the money. So I do hope that, you know,
- 46:52yeah, the, the names we're looking at, they will fit within
- 46:56that wage structure. I just, yeah, I think
- 47:00personally, the execution of central midfield players is more
- 47:03important than any manager you could name.
- 47:06Unless yeah, you, you, you do have this.
- 47:09If you could bring Lewis, Enrique and sign 3 bowlers like,
- 47:14you know, Xiao Nevers and Mutino.
- 47:16Mutinia, Vitinia. Sorry.
- 47:19Vitinia, yeah. This goes back to ownership.
- 47:22That's more a Qatar model, isn't it?
- 47:23To get the big name manager with big signings, right?
- 47:27We won't. Be Saudi anymore.
- 47:30Yeah, but that's the thing isn't it?
- 47:31It all does philtre down from the ownership on how they want
- 47:35to run the club and it's not really in US style to go and get
- 47:39a Enrique I don't think, especially after Carrick's.
- 47:41Done. I don't know.
- 47:42I'm not Jim Ratcliffe. I disagree.
- 47:45Yeah, he interviewed 2. He.
- 47:46Likes he likes special special names Steve like look, he tried
- 47:51to do Dan Ashworth. He he even said when he got him
- 47:55best football director out there right.
- 47:57But obviously we know Jim clashes with a lot of people.
- 48:00I definitely think if Lewis Enrique was open to coming to
- 48:05United, there is no way Jim Ratcliffe would not be.
- 48:09Yeah, but if Louis, Louis Enrique said I need to spend 300
- 48:12million in the summer with it, right?
- 48:14It's not just the manager. Long as I think, what's the
- 48:16demand? I think as long as they spend
- 48:18the money wisely and the right age profile because look, Louis
- 48:21Enrique was the guy who actually told Khalifa to look stop by me,
- 48:26Neymar, Messi, get me the best French players in the in the
- 48:31country. Yeah, and get me good midfield.
- 48:33Like Pettini was Wolves guy, right?
- 48:35He was not Yeah, not rejected Wolves.
- 48:38Yeah, so yeah, and and Sharnevs was like a kid in the Portuguese
- 48:43league. It was highly rated, but he's
- 48:45still like 1920. That's a perfect in your
- 48:48signing. So I think think Enrique is the
- 48:51perfect guy. It's just, yeah, I just don't
- 48:53see him coming. Yeah, it's not also.
- 48:56Maybe next, maybe the year after or something.
- 48:58Also, Louis Enrique was the guy who gave like that famous speech
- 49:02to Mbappe, right? Like, you know, you got to do
- 49:04more than just score goals. You got to press.
- 49:06You got to be like Michael Jordan.
- 49:08And now Sherlock, he goes to Real Madrid and Louis Enrique
- 49:13goes, wins the Champions League, and he's on the verge at least
- 49:17getting to the final anyway this week.
- 49:20Yeah, all right, so just to close it off then, yeah, bit of
- 49:23a worrying result in the title race tonight.
- 49:26So Everton 3, Manchester City three.
- 49:29Wow. And City equalised in the last
- 49:32minute, so Everton were winning 32 and they've just equalised.
- 49:35So still dropped two points right?
- 49:37And in Arsenal's hands now so. I tell you what, though, West
- 49:41Ham, Arsenal, there's a there's a surprise the the there's more
- 49:46twists. So I thought he.
- 49:47Was going to do a little Kevin Keegan speech there.
- 49:50Let it's 30 years apparently. Since that, let me tell you.
- 49:54Tell you what. Your title prediction could be
- 49:57coming in and we're going to have to go into hiding in the
- 49:59summer. Fucking how bloody hell.
- 50:02Liverpool last summer, now Arsenal.
- 50:05I, I I don't particularly like the Arsenal fans, I don't like
- 50:09Michael Arteta, but I think for the good of the league it would
- 50:12be nice to have a new winner, wouldn't it?
- 50:14Someone different? Do we have to have City again?
- 50:17Someone different but just I can't do Arsenal, Liverpool,
- 50:21sorry. Yeah.
- 50:22Yeah, I know what you mean. It's just Arsenal fans, isn't
- 50:25it? That's the trouble.
- 50:25But yeah, I mean, they've been knocking on the door for long.
- 50:28Guys, they've been been through so much.
- 50:31But Steve James Regan, you said the title was not in your hands.
- 50:38I want, I want to see what you say now.
- 50:40I think he's literally messaged and said it's in our hand, in
- 50:43our hands now. So yeah, it's.
- 50:45Someone's got excited all of a sudden.
- 50:48Yeah, it's it's for them to go and deliver now.
- 50:51So yeah, I mean, we've got a few games left, but not much to play
- 50:54for other than trying to finish as high up in the league as
- 50:57possible. Let's see if and when Carrot
- 51:00gets announced. I feel like it's pretty much a
- 51:04done deal, but we'll wait and see for the official
- 51:06announcement, so. Do you want, do you want to know
- 51:08one last rumour I heard today, Vincent Company, sorry Vasson
- 51:13Company's assistant was Michael Carrick's ex assistant at
- 51:17Middlesbrough and there's a good possibility he's joining us in
- 51:22the summer. Wow.
- 51:24So that probably tells you what's happening.
- 51:28Yeah, exactly. So it'll be interesting to see
- 51:31if there's an announcement before the end of the season.
- 51:33I don't think they will. I think they'll wait till the
- 51:35end. Yeah, because they want to,
- 51:37apparently they want to interview other other candidates
- 51:40as well. We'll do it.
- 51:41We'll do a separate part on the process because there's more I
- 51:43want to unpick on that, but I think for for now we'll leave it
- 51:47there. 3 two against Liverpool late winner Kobe Maynu born and
- 51:51bred Manchester and we beat Liverpool 32 and done the double
- 51:55over them this season and it's nearly been a year since Bilbao.
- 51:57Can you believe that? Wow, that's.
- 52:00Incredible and how things change.
- 52:03And all we have to say is, you know, the, the, the fact that
- 52:06the Champions League is back. Yeah, exactly.
- 52:10And new group stage format. Big ties at Old Trafford.
- 52:14Yeah. Boys, let's see what happens to
- 52:18Jet Fuel and let's get those tickets booked.
- 52:21Yeah, exactly. European away trip has to be
- 52:24done next season, so we'll leave it there for now.
- 52:27Thanks for joining us on this one, and we'll catch you on the
- 52:30next episode.
