- 0:00Speaker 1: Finally she's taking full responsibility. It's one more thing.
- 0:04Speaker 2: I'm strong and getty, one more thing.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Before responsibility or partial responsibility, before we get to the
- 0:14Speaker 1: apology for an American nightmare. We don't usually talk that
- 0:19Speaker 1: much politics in this One More Thing podcast, but I
- 0:22Speaker 1: came across these two things about the election. One AOC
- 0:26Speaker 1: said Trump's Madison Square garden event was a mini January
- 0:29Speaker 1: sixth rally.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Oh jeez, that's right.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Reasonable Sandy. And then just came across this Harris supporter
- 0:38Speaker 1: who said, they've been making a list of all the
- 0:40Speaker 1: things in my life that I won't lose if Trump wins,
- 0:43Speaker 1: so that I'll be able to calm down should he
- 0:47Speaker 1: end up winning the election, if I ever get that
- 0:51Speaker 1: way about a politician or anything practically, anything where I
- 0:54Speaker 1: got to write down a list of things that are
- 0:56Speaker 1: good in my life so I can deal with it emotionally.
- 1:00Speaker 2: I you know, granted, look, I'm a fella, I got
- 1:04Speaker 2: a beard, I'm a male.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Oh but do you have a penis? Were you born
- 1:09Speaker 1: with a pennace?
- 1:10Speaker 2: Oh? Boy?
- 1:11Speaker 1: Were you born with Because you can have a penis.
- 1:13Speaker 1: You could have had to add a dictomy, but you
- 1:15Speaker 1: were born with it.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, oge man, Oh yeah absolutely anyway, original Genitalia.
- 1:26Speaker 2: I remember where being panic stricken about everything was not
- 1:32Speaker 2: revealed or revered rather as like a positive character. Right,
- 1:37Speaker 2: I go to pieces when everything happens was.
- 1:41Speaker 3: Not a brag.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Right. I was talking to somebody about that the other day.
- 1:44Speaker 1: When did the man or woman.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Play Some of the toughest humans I've ever known? My
- 1:48Speaker 2: wife were utterly unflappable American females.
- 1:52Speaker 1: When did that flip that? It went from being the
- 1:56Speaker 1: cool people keep it all inside and hide it and
- 2:00Speaker 1: and soldier on to the cool people exaggerate the smallest
- 2:05Speaker 1: things in fall the pieces over it that made you
- 2:07Speaker 1: more cool, Like they're more upset than I am, so
- 2:10Speaker 1: they get higher rank for some reason.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Weird Jonathan Hyighte and Greg Lukianoff. I think it could
- 2:15Speaker 2: probably nail that down pretty well, the coddling of the
- 2:18Speaker 2: American mind. The Landmark book on the topic.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Somewhere in the trophies for Everybody Phase something all the
- 2:27Speaker 1: one Unholy stew Yes. So this girl probably got a
- 2:31Speaker 1: singing trophy at some point. We talked about this last week.
- 2:34Speaker 1: I'm kind of excited about hearing the unbleeped version. I've
- 2:37Speaker 1: only heard the bleeped version. So they had a third
- 2:41Speaker 1: party debate on c SPAN two for the candidates that
- 2:45Speaker 1: aren't Kamala Harrison Donald Trump. If you're a third party candidate,
- 2:48Speaker 1: they had a debate, and you didn't know what happened.
- 2:50Speaker 1: In fact, over at Sea Span they don't. They apparently
- 2:54Speaker 1: didn't think it rose to the level of the main
- 2:56Speaker 1: seam se Span. They put it on c SPAN two
- 3:00Speaker 1: and c Span thought we're better than this electorally useless.
- 3:05Speaker 2: I'm told it was actually quite a thought provoking exchange
- 3:09Speaker 2: of views, but nobody saw it.
- 3:10Speaker 1: I'll let tree forest, et cetera. I'll let you watch
- 3:12Speaker 1: it and then give me tell you all about it.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Tell me all about it. But for some reason at
- 3:18Speaker 1: the debate, they felt like they had to have somebody
- 3:20Speaker 1: sing the national anthem, and I don't know this girl
- 3:24Speaker 1: is this bad baby loomis with a dollar sign yes,
- 3:31Speaker 1: And her singing didn't go well, and she dropped a
- 3:33Speaker 1: couple of bombs and became a scandal. Here we go.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Can I go back? And I go back? Please?
- 3:45Speaker 4: Bst.
- 3:48Speaker 2: I got too.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Nervous, Oh Luma dollar, So she says, oh full f there.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Somebody goes, we're live, We're live, sullying the airwaves of
- 4:07Speaker 1: sea Span two, right, two handfuls of people across the country.
- 4:12Speaker 5: What about the.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Children who were a watch.
- 4:14Speaker 1: If your kid's watching c Span two the Third Party Debate,
- 4:17Speaker 1: you got one weird kid on your hand.
- 4:21Speaker 2: I wouldn't scream at it in its stroller.
- 4:23Speaker 1: But there the highlights off.
- 4:26Speaker 2: You've seen that video.
- 4:27Speaker 3: That video is awful.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Geez, no kidding. The highlights of the Third Party Debate
- 4:33Speaker 1: weren't going to be good enough for your kid. They
- 4:35Speaker 1: needed to see it live if they were watching it anyway.
- 4:38Speaker 1: So the singer apparently has decided to resurrect the career
- 4:42Speaker 1: of Loomis. What's the persons?
- 4:45Speaker 2: Bluma dollar, Gluma dollar.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Loomis with a dollar sign for nest Yes, yes, very quick.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Loomis is now apologizing. I think I guess from the.
- 4:56Speaker 6: Bottom of my heart, I wanted to apologize, and I'm
- 4:59Speaker 6: so I didn't mean to mess up the national anthem,
- 5:02Speaker 6: and I wanted to thank you guys for giving me
- 5:03Speaker 6: a chance and believing in me. And I'm sorry you
- 5:07Speaker 6: guys that I messing up, and please, please please forgive me.
- 5:11Speaker 6: You know this has been something I've been scared since
- 5:15Speaker 6: I was a little girl, and I've always was scared
- 5:19Speaker 6: I was gonna fail, and then I did.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Having to sing at the Third Party debate. That's what
- 5:25Speaker 1: you've been scared of since you're a little girl.
- 5:26Speaker 2: I tell you what. On ESPN five you will get
- 5:32Speaker 2: a chance to work your way back to C SPAN two.
- 5:36Speaker 1: That was your dream. That's a good question, Michael.
- 5:38Speaker 4: As a young singer, I someday pictured myself not at
- 5:43Speaker 4: the center of the Super Bowl singing the national anthem,
- 5:47Speaker 4: but in front of the Green Party candidate that the
- 5:50Speaker 4: Third Party debate.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Also not worried about dropping the F bomb, is more
- 5:54Speaker 1: concerned about messing up the national anthem.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Right, if you quit yourself well on ESPN five, we've
- 6:02Speaker 2: booked you for QVC B and if that goes well,
- 6:06Speaker 2: perhaps perhaps someday again you will taste the sweet nectar
- 6:10Speaker 2: of singing on c SPAN.
- 6:12Speaker 5: To Oh Loomis, Oh the QVC We're gonna have you
- 6:22Speaker 5: sing the national anthem for the release of the bejeweled
- 6:26Speaker 5: spatulas that we're going to sell it to him.
- 6:30Speaker 2: I had always thought I would sing the national anthem
- 6:33Speaker 2: at a sporting event, and I never did, and at
- 6:38Speaker 2: this point I have no interest in it anymore.
- 6:40Speaker 1: But I always want your dreams.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Well, I know I did. Our friend Pat Walsh did.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Didn't he at Raley in Sacramento for the baseball game?
- 6:50Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 6:50Speaker 1: Triple A Rivercats.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. Which it takes guts.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely does. Absolutely does. Because you're a you're all
- 6:59Speaker 1: alone and you're exposed.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Yeah. I was just I did a little profit loss
- 7:04Speaker 2: analysis and I thought, all right, if I absolutely nail it,
- 7:07Speaker 2: knock it out of the park, if you'll forgive the metaphor,
- 7:10Speaker 2: what good does it too?
- 7:11Speaker 1: Nobody will think about it ever again?
- 7:13Speaker 2: And what are the chances of effing it up? A
- 7:15Speaker 2: little bit? You get dry mouth, you get a little nervous,
- 7:17Speaker 2: you got the echo coming back at you. I thought, no, no,
- 7:20Speaker 2: it's a car wreck waiting to happen.
- 7:22Speaker 1: That's funny. I've thought about it myself too, not actually
- 7:24Speaker 1: doing it, but like if I were doing it, I'd
- 7:26Speaker 1: be more concerned about getting the words messed up than
- 7:29Speaker 1: it in the note. I would think, I'm gonna be
- 7:31Speaker 1: so focused on this, I'm gonna forget the words. And
- 7:33Speaker 1: that's that's Yes, that's a real embarrassment there too. I mean,
- 7:38Speaker 1: you can really really make yourself look bad you start
- 7:40Speaker 1: getting the words wrong.
- 7:42Speaker 2: And plus, Katie, I don't know if have you ever
- 7:43Speaker 2: been a musician. Have you ever played an instrument?
- 7:46Speaker 5: Yes?
- 7:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I play guitar.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Oh okay. Have you ever while you're playing start to think, hey,
- 7:54Speaker 2: this is going really well? Yeah, because it's inevitable if
- 7:59Speaker 2: you start thinking in that it's over if you have
- 8:01Speaker 2: a certain sort of brain m hm. And I have
- 8:04Speaker 2: fought that every bar I have played since I was
- 8:06Speaker 2: like eight years old of music. Focus, Joe focus, I
- 8:10Speaker 2: am focusing and this is going really cold.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Yeah, it's over exactly.
- 8:15Speaker 3: I used to make videos of myself playing guitar and singing.
- 8:18Speaker 1: In the second that went through my mind, it was
- 8:20Speaker 1: like toast awful starting over.
- 8:22Speaker 2: I screwed something up and I just see me, Oh Sie,
- 8:26Speaker 2: can you ramparts? I mean like right out of the gate.
- 8:34Speaker 1: I just start saying or over and over again.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Or or the more sweet. Somebody helped me out because
- 8:44Speaker 2: everybody sing, let's do this as a group tonight. Yeah,
- 8:51Speaker 2: who needs the stress? Huh.
- 8:56Speaker 3: About five years ago, I was giving a speech on
- 8:59Speaker 3: the flat tech.
- 9:00Speaker 2: I wet my pants on C Span three that's unfortunate.
- 9:05Speaker 3: Well, I guess that's its
