- 0:16Speaker 2: of Electrical Workers. Start with the JOMP and with the
- 0:18Speaker 2: career IVW Local sixty eight.
- 0:21Speaker 1: It's Leggy Well yeh yeh yeh.
- 0:24Speaker 2: On Altitude Sports Radio ninety two five. We have our
- 0:33Speaker 2: next keyword coming up at twenty minutes after four o'clock
- 0:37Speaker 2: for you to qualify to win a pair of tickets
- 0:38Speaker 2: for the Nuggets and Clippers game two tonight.
- 0:42Speaker 1: We got one more keyword.
- 0:43Speaker 2: We'll do it at four twenty and then we'll announce
- 0:45Speaker 2: the winner before the hour is up, so you can
- 0:47Speaker 2: make plans and go to the game tonight. Personally, I
- 0:52Speaker 2: can't make it out to the game this evening because
- 0:55Speaker 2: I plan to stay home and comb my way through
- 0:58Speaker 2: Jeff Legwald's Top one hundred for the fourth or fifth time.
- 1:02Speaker 1: That's what I'm doing this evening.
- 1:04Speaker 2: I'm dvring all sporting events and just reading the Top
- 1:07Speaker 2: one hundred. Jeff Legwild with us on a Monday afternoon Leggy,
- 1:10Speaker 2: how you doing.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Man, I'm great. Are you guys doing well? Leggy?
- 1:13Speaker 2: When you do a top one hundred, do you get
- 1:16Speaker 2: like pushback from anybody that's like, how do you have
- 1:19Speaker 2: Harold Fannin at eighty seven over Tyler Shuck? Like does
- 1:23Speaker 2: it get that down? As people comb through this thing,
- 1:27Speaker 2: does the minutia of it just take over or is
- 1:30Speaker 2: that all just happen inside your own brain?
- 1:33Speaker 3: No, it takes over people. Anytime you rank anything, somebody's
- 1:38Speaker 3: gonna be mad. That's just the bottom line, you know.
- 1:42Speaker 3: One of my favorite sort of clapbacks, as always if
- 1:48Speaker 3: we rank sports writers, get the tough one. But I
- 1:54Speaker 3: like that one a lot, and I also like, I
- 1:57Speaker 3: don't even know who the hell you are. So those
- 1:59Speaker 3: are my two, my two favorites when when it comes
- 2:03Speaker 3: to ranking.
- 2:03Speaker 4: Well, these people are taking it well.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Yeah, But you know, sometimes you'll hear from a relative
- 2:09Speaker 3: or an agent or somebody that.
- 2:11Speaker 1: You know doesn't appreciate it.
- 2:13Speaker 3: That's all part of it, you know, And it's funny
- 2:15Speaker 3: because sometimes you're basically saying a person is one of
- 2:20Speaker 3: the sixty best football players available to the NFL this
- 2:26Speaker 3: year to acquire, and people are mad at that like,
- 2:30Speaker 3: you know, take any group of six, you know, the
- 2:32Speaker 3: sixty best carpenters are going to be really good carpenters
- 2:36Speaker 3: or the sixty best anything. But man, it's uh, it
- 2:41Speaker 3: is a lot different.
- 2:42Speaker 2: You know.
- 2:42Speaker 3: You used to publish it and people will be like, well,
- 2:45Speaker 3: I didn't know Bowling Green had a really good tight end,
- 2:47Speaker 3: you know, back when I first started doing this, But
- 2:49Speaker 3: now it's so out there all the time.
- 2:52Speaker 1: One of our our listener called it what rage bait?
- 2:55Speaker 4: No, no, it was I read it yesterday. Yeah, and
- 2:59Speaker 4: because I think Adam had tweeted you yesterday, let right,
- 3:02Speaker 4: Leggy and he put and the quarterback placement is interesting
- 3:05Speaker 4: or something like that, because you've got your guys down lower,
- 3:09Speaker 4: including what should I think was thirty two eighteen nineteen?
- 3:12Speaker 1: Help me out again with.
- 3:13Speaker 3: Uh thirty two?
- 3:15Speaker 1: And where was uh?
- 3:17Speaker 4: Where was cam Ward eighteen eighteen ten? Well somebody the
- 3:21Speaker 4: first comment under Adams.
- 3:22Speaker 3: Tweet was rage b so yeah, well you know, or
- 3:27Speaker 3: just where they really belonged, you know. I I'll stick
- 3:30Speaker 3: with my quarterback track record over the years. But that's
- 3:33Speaker 3: you know, like I say, if you rank anything, somebody's
- 3:36Speaker 3: gonna be upset. And that's just the way.
- 3:38Speaker 2: It is well, and it speaks to again like, let's
- 3:41Speaker 2: go back and talk about Denver here for a minute, Leggy,
- 3:45Speaker 2: someone's gonna overdraft cam Ward. It's going to be Tennessee
- 3:47Speaker 2: is going to overdraft cam Ward above Denver. Somebody's probably
- 3:50Speaker 2: gonna overdraft Nadson dark shauduor Sanders or Jackson Dart above Denver.
- 3:56Speaker 2: And that is going to push down again, a very
- 3:59Speaker 2: good foot ballplayer to the Broncos at number twenty. But
- 4:03Speaker 2: your guy Adam Schefter is even hinting the Denver is
- 4:05Speaker 2: sniffing around potentially at a move up. Now, Leggie, if
- 4:10Speaker 2: that were the case, what do you believe they'd be targeting.
- 4:14Speaker 3: I think then you have a very specific player in mind.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Do you want one of the tight ends? Do you
- 4:19Speaker 3: want a very specific receiver you know? Or have you decided?
- 4:25Speaker 3: You know? If Ashton genty somehow miraculously falls beyond a
- 4:29Speaker 3: certain number, how active are you going to be to
- 4:33Speaker 3: go get him? The price is high because again, this
- 4:36Speaker 3: is a thin first round. So the teams that hold
- 4:39Speaker 3: the top twelve picks believe they have more value even
- 4:43Speaker 3: than most years, because this draft is strong rounds two
- 4:49Speaker 3: through five but the first round is very thin, so
- 4:53Speaker 3: the teams with the picks up high are going to
- 4:56Speaker 3: ask for a little bit more than they would in
- 4:59Speaker 3: a lot of years. And that's going to be the
- 5:00Speaker 3: complication for the Broncos or anybody else that wants to
- 5:04Speaker 3: move up. It might cost you more on the infamous
- 5:09Speaker 3: draft charts than similar trades have in previous years.
- 5:13Speaker 4: All right, you're probably gonna that answer may blow this
- 5:16Speaker 4: question out of the water, But I am just curious
- 5:19Speaker 4: because a lot of discussion on ESPN today about how
- 5:23Speaker 4: Orlavsky is saying that the Saints really want a second
- 5:26Speaker 4: round pick because that's or they want to pick their quarterback.
- 5:28Speaker 4: They don't want to really do it at nine. Could
- 5:31Speaker 4: the Broncos offer their second round in the first and
- 5:33Speaker 4: would that be enough to jump them from twenty to nine.
- 5:36Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know the Broncos have a high enough
- 5:38Speaker 3: pick in the second because you got you got all
- 5:41Speaker 3: the quarterback needy teams picking at the top of the
- 5:44Speaker 3: second too. Cleveland's up there, The Giants are up there.
- 5:48Speaker 3: That's your issue. You can't get above them in the
- 5:52Speaker 3: second round. It's not possible. So you might, you know,
- 5:57Speaker 3: if the Broncos had a pick in the thirties, even
- 6:00Speaker 3: those teams might be getting a look from the second
- 6:03Speaker 3: round quarterback teams because they want to get in front
- 6:06Speaker 3: of those other guys. So you know, it's like I
- 6:09Speaker 3: always use it as the example because it's the best
- 6:11Speaker 3: one in recent years. But Baltimore went back in and
- 6:14Speaker 3: got Lamar Jackson at thirty two that year they traded
- 6:17Speaker 3: back in. He was still on the board and they
- 6:20Speaker 3: wanted to beat the people in the second round to him,
- 6:23Speaker 3: so they came back into the first on the last
- 6:26Speaker 3: pick and took him.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Talking to Jeff Legwell at the top one hundred is out, Leggy,
- 6:32Speaker 2: I'm gonna I'm gonna make a read on this. You
- 6:34Speaker 2: can tell me that I'm way off base, but this
- 6:36Speaker 2: is kind of my theory. Is I've been delving into
- 6:39Speaker 2: if Denver is going to take a running back in
- 6:41Speaker 2: the in the first at number twenty, which they very
- 6:43Speaker 2: well could could do if they don't trade up, and
- 6:45Speaker 2: maybe you know, get into the Ashton gent conversation in
- 6:49Speaker 2: the Omari and Hampton or Traveon Henderson debate that I
- 6:54Speaker 2: think teams are having about who is RB two. You
- 6:57Speaker 2: had Traveon Henderson as RB two in your top one
- 7:01Speaker 2: hundred over Hampton. But as they're having that debate, is
- 7:07Speaker 2: it possible that Sean Payton, given his profile of back
- 7:11Speaker 2: that he likes, would push for Henderson and George Peyton?
- 7:15Speaker 2: And I guess I'm just looking at the profile of
- 7:17Speaker 2: the guy that drafted Javonte Williams that George Peyton would
- 7:20Speaker 2: push for Omari and Hampton.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Is do you think that that is accurate at all?
- 7:27Speaker 3: I don't think it's as cut and dry as that. Okay, then,
- 7:31Speaker 3: George Peyton, when they drafted Javante, they wanted the whole
- 7:35Speaker 3: skill set and some of that was pass protection on
- 7:39Speaker 3: third down, and you know, if that is part of
- 7:43Speaker 3: the equation, I think that opens up both guys to
- 7:47Speaker 3: be more open to certain backs. But I think twenty
- 7:53Speaker 3: is a weird spot for a back. You know, you're
- 7:56Speaker 3: too late almost certainly to get genty, and I'm not
- 8:01Speaker 3: sure the other backs.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Are really worth twenty that grade.
- 8:07Speaker 3: I think the issue for the Broncos is I would
- 8:09Speaker 3: be shocked, stunned if they had more than twenty picks
- 8:16Speaker 3: or even twenty picks with first round grades. So that's
- 8:20Speaker 3: I think when you see when it gets to ten, eleven, twelve,
- 8:26Speaker 3: and if you hear any rumblings of movements about the Broncos,
- 8:31Speaker 3: I think it's an indication that their first round boards
- 8:34Speaker 3: taking a big hit as the picks are unfolding. Now,
- 8:38Speaker 3: if they don't agree with the way the first round
- 8:42Speaker 3: is unfolding, then they're probably more apt to stay put
- 8:46Speaker 3: and take the player they have rated twelve or something.
- 8:49Speaker 3: You know at twenty's but you're going to know a
- 8:52Speaker 3: lot about how the first round is going on their
- 8:54Speaker 3: board by what they do, and I think that's as
- 8:59Speaker 3: far as back. I think twenty's the weird spot because
- 9:03Speaker 3: you're probably overdrafting RB two. But again, if if the
- 9:08Speaker 3: guy comes in and produces, no one's ever gonna care. Ever,
- 9:12Speaker 3: it's just a matter of how you treat the board
- 9:14Speaker 3: with the value and how much you really are passionate
- 9:17Speaker 3: about sticking to it. Because I do know they believe
- 9:24Speaker 3: fervently that they are contributing immediate contributors at running back
- 9:30Speaker 3: in the second round, the third round, you know, into
- 9:34Speaker 3: day two, and they have scouted and interviewed and met
- 9:39Speaker 3: with all of the running backs who fit that profile too,
- 9:43Speaker 3: so they're ready to take a back in day one
- 9:47Speaker 3: or day two and have several different names that they
- 9:50Speaker 3: would live with, you know, in that regard. For me,
- 9:54Speaker 3: Henderson is more pro ready in downs one, first, second,
- 9:59Speaker 3: and third down right now than Hampton is. And I
- 10:05Speaker 3: was trained many decades ago to be wary of high
- 10:09Speaker 3: contact runners in college football because you don't break those
- 10:13Speaker 3: tackles in the NFL, and I think that's I think
- 10:17Speaker 3: that's some of my grade in Hampton and a player
- 10:21Speaker 3: like Skataboo too, is those those high contact runners don't
- 10:26Speaker 3: break those those tackles nearly as often in the NFL
- 10:30Speaker 3: as they did in college.
- 10:31Speaker 2: Could they also potentially view a back like Henderson or
- 10:35Speaker 2: maybe even just Henderson specifically as a as a better
- 10:38Speaker 2: compliment to the backs that they already have in the
- 10:41Speaker 2: room like is is Omari and Hampton maybe too similar
- 10:44Speaker 2: to Audra Guestimy that it would make a ton of sense.
- 10:48Speaker 3: That's my opinion. I think I think some of what
- 10:52Speaker 3: people like in Hampton they have on the roster and
- 10:55Speaker 3: just haven't used him. Yeah, so, and you know, some
- 10:58Speaker 3: of it may show us what they think of Estima.
- 11:00Speaker 3: I mean, now, they were they were giddy when he
- 11:04Speaker 3: was available for that pick. They had him graded well
- 11:07Speaker 3: above that pick, you know, when they took him, so
- 11:10Speaker 3: it would seem odd to me that they would sour
- 11:13Speaker 3: on him. And you know, one more draft season, but
- 11:16Speaker 3: you know, weirder things have happened. But you know, I
- 11:19Speaker 3: think they have that player. You know, I think they
- 11:24Speaker 3: will be looking at a highly graded wide receiver at
- 11:27Speaker 3: that pick. You know, obviously the backs are all going
- 11:31Speaker 3: to be available at that pick. A defensive lineman will
- 11:34Speaker 3: likely be available at that pick. I think those are
- 11:38Speaker 3: the three positions that will hold the best grades if
- 11:41Speaker 3: if the board unfolds the way a lot of people expect.
- 11:45Speaker 4: All right, real quick, make you I make you put
- 11:48Speaker 4: your money down today, offensive or defensive with the pick.
- 11:52Speaker 3: Hard for me to believe he's going to pass on offense, Andy,
- 11:54Speaker 3: I mean, it's again, it's all strength to the board
- 11:57Speaker 3: and all those things. But I can't I say that.
- 12:01Speaker 3: I say offense, but I cannot get out of my
- 12:04Speaker 3: head that when we spoke to Sean Payton the other day,
- 12:09Speaker 3: he said, don't pass on crystal because you need a blender.
- 12:14Speaker 3: So it really tells me they're very cognizant that this
- 12:18Speaker 3: first round doesn't look like most first rounds and best
- 12:22Speaker 3: available may be the requirement when they get to twenty,
- 12:27Speaker 3: so you don't leave one of the very few first
- 12:31Speaker 3: round grades still left on the board because you're picking
- 12:33Speaker 3: for need or for you know, desire or whatever that
- 12:39Speaker 3: best available really means best available.
- 12:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I couldn't help but notice Nick im and Worry
- 12:43Speaker 2: and Derek Harmon at fifteen and sixteen respectively in your
- 12:46Speaker 2: top one hundred and thought to myself, Wow, if either
- 12:49Speaker 2: one of those fell to Denver, they'd really have to
- 12:51Speaker 2: think about it. Jeff Legwald, everybody ESPN dot com Top
- 12:55Speaker 2: one hundred is out. Get it, read it, tweet angry
- 12:58Speaker 2: things at Jeff Lake. You'll feel better about yourself. Leggy,
- 13:02Speaker 2: good work as always, man.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 13:04Speaker 3: I'm here to serve. Thank you.
- 13:06Speaker 1: That's right, Jeff Legwald with us here
