Sea Stars Have Built-In Light Sensors | Science News
Scientists uncovered jaw-dropping tech inside chocolate-chip sea stars—tiny cone-shaped structures in their arm tips act like mini fiber-optic cables, channeling light into their bodies. Researchers believe these bony marvels help sea stars navigate by comparing light levels across arms, though whether they actually detect light is still being tested. Bonus? The cones also fortify arm tips against damage. Nature’s engineering genius just got a major upgrade—and engineers are already taking notes.
