- 0:04SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Rider, where we share a lesson each day to help you cultivate the habits for creative success.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: If you've ever been hiking on a trail in the woods, you've seen the markers that show your distance and keep you headed in the right direction.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: The purpose of those signs is to keep you from getting lost and give you guidance along the way.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: Well, there are similar signs in the writer's life.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: And these markers indicate our direction, but they're not always so obvious as trail markers.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: One of those signs is your fear.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: What are you afraid to do?
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: Is it outlining that book?
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: Is it contacting that author who you want to speak with?
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: Maybe it's setting up your website or sending off some writing to beta readers.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: Your biggest writing-related fear is a huge indicator of the direction you should be going.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: When it comes to creative work, your fear is usually a sign telling you what you should be focusing on.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: Ralph Waldo Emerson put it simply.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: He said, always do what you are afraid to do.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: Most writers do the exact opposite.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: They let fear push them away from the very thing they should be focusing on.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: But you don't need to be afraid of fear.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: Fear can actually be your best friend.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: It's a friend that gently guides you toward a creative calling that'll bring you greater success and fulfillment.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: Hey, thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
