- 0:04Speaker 1: NHL Unscripted is a production of the NHL and iHeart
- 0:07Speaker 1: podcasts Great Tipy with us here on NHL in Scripted
- 0:21Speaker 1: episode sixteen, Coming at You, and Dylan Stroman is our
- 0:24Speaker 1: special guest. What a great backstery has not only going
- 0:27Speaker 1: way back with Jason Demurz, my co host, but also.
- 0:30Speaker 2: He's going to birds.
- 0:31Speaker 1: I see it right now as Alexander ovench Can continues
- 0:33Speaker 1: the Great Chase and as far as Stroman is concerned,
- 0:36Speaker 1: he's broken up big to the last couple.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Of seasons, going to wash and really has rejuvenated his career.
- 0:41Speaker 1: We'll ask him about that, playing with Obie, stories of McDavid,
- 0:43Speaker 1: back to the OHL, his brother in the Calder Cup.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Lots of good stuff coming up from Dylan Stroman here momentarily.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Plus we'll talk about the NHL and the stretch run.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Right now is we're going to late March, you know,
- 0:53Speaker 1: March madness, Weather's getting better, spring bling.
- 0:55Speaker 2: There's a lot going on here in the world of hockey,
- 0:57Speaker 2: speaking of pucks.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Always nice doing Amazon Prime Monday at Hockey and Jason
- 1:01Speaker 1: Murz is chiming in as I was just back home
- 1:03Speaker 1: in Toronto, the Leafs and the Flames critical game for
- 1:06Speaker 1: both these teams.
- 1:06Speaker 3: JD.
- 1:07Speaker 2: You were locked in. Were you back home?
- 1:09Speaker 1: How are you watching Amazon Prime Canada only broadcast here
- 1:12Speaker 1: in America.
- 1:14Speaker 4: Well, I keep tabs on you and make sure you're
- 1:17Speaker 4: not cheating on me. And you were on Amazon Monday
- 1:20Speaker 4: Night Prime. It was a good game, though I wanted
- 1:23Speaker 4: to watch. I really it's tough when you work with
- 1:25Speaker 4: the network and you have to you have to fall
- 1:28Speaker 4: so many games and cover so many games, so sometimes
- 1:30Speaker 4: you don't just get to sit and watch. And I
- 1:33Speaker 4: kind of asked, like e. G. Erradick and guys like that.
- 1:35Speaker 4: I'm like, how do you do it? Like how do
- 1:36Speaker 4: you stay on top of all the stats? Knowing everything?
- 1:40Speaker 4: And he's like he's honestly, He's like, it's it's overwhelming
- 1:43Speaker 4: at times. So you just every now and again, if
- 1:45Speaker 4: you can pick two teams you haven't watched consistently, just
- 1:48Speaker 4: kind of go sit down. So I've watched Toronto, but
- 1:50Speaker 4: I haven't watched a ton of Calgary this year. Yeah,
- 1:52Speaker 4: it's like, you know what, I'm gonna sit down watch
- 1:54Speaker 4: Obviously one of the worst games I could have watched,
- 1:56Speaker 4: because they got absolutely shit pumped.
- 1:59Speaker 3: They got shit pumped by Toronto.
- 2:02Speaker 4: But it was good to see because everybody's kind of
- 2:03Speaker 4: talking about Matthews. You know, we here, we're starting to
- 2:07Speaker 4: hear rumors that he went you know, I think it
- 2:09Speaker 4: was Switzerland for his back, and it was his back
- 2:11Speaker 4: that he was getting stem cells or something or whatever
- 2:14Speaker 4: we want to talk about for that.
- 2:16Speaker 3: So it was good to see him.
- 2:18Speaker 4: Kind of everybody's questioning as he's playing through an injury,
- 2:20Speaker 4: what's going on? And he kind of shows up and
- 2:23Speaker 4: shows out. And then obviously I get to watch your
- 2:26Speaker 4: pre post and intermission reports and you know, fantastic work.
- 2:30Speaker 4: But you love to throw in, you love to throw
- 2:32Speaker 4: in a random movie cinema quote. And Blake Bolden every
- 2:36Speaker 4: time was looking at.
- 2:37Speaker 2: You, like look Dustin Wolf, the Wolf of Wall Streets.
- 2:39Speaker 4: I was with you, Yeah, yeah, you went over ahead
- 2:44Speaker 4: a few times. I'm used to it now because we're,
- 2:46Speaker 4: you know, sixteen episodes in. But Blake Bolden's probably not
- 2:49Speaker 4: used of all of your your endless knowledge and of
- 2:53Speaker 4: the cinema and what do you call it, the cinema industry?
- 2:58Speaker 4: You know all everything, I mean, your knowledge and especially
- 3:01Speaker 4: you and Taw when you guys get talking. I told
- 3:03Speaker 4: my wife, yeah, other day. I was like, and we
- 3:05Speaker 4: got to talk about that a little bit. She's like,
- 3:08Speaker 4: but did you watch The Brutalist, because tell I told you,
- 3:12Speaker 4: Ai yam, I'm not watching The Brutis.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Are you still getting buzzed from last up?
- 3:16Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 3:16Speaker 4: But the way you guys talk about the writers and
- 3:19Speaker 4: the screenplay, and I like went to my op and
- 3:22Speaker 4: I'm like, I know shit about movies here.
- 3:23Speaker 3: I thought I'm sending fout.
- 3:24Speaker 4: She's like, yeah, you rewatched the same movie seventeen hundred
- 3:28Speaker 4: times and I'm like, yeah, a Pacific rim Uprising, great movie.
- 3:32Speaker 1: I love its. Tu Dog Day Afternoon established your bonafly.
- 3:36Speaker 1: That's all I need to hear.
- 3:36Speaker 4: I like the old school Donny Brasco. Yeah, like mob movies.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Forget about it.
- 3:41Speaker 1: I want to go to the intermissions for a second
- 3:43Speaker 1: because I'm glad you mentioned it. So I've bet John
- 3:45Speaker 1: Shannon the first period, but I'm glad. It's actually why
- 3:46Speaker 1: I wanted to start absolute legends in the game. And
- 3:49Speaker 1: if you're a hockey fan, clearly listen to this podcast.
- 3:51Speaker 1: You know the name is Daryl Sittler. Landy McDonald talking
- 3:53Speaker 1: to Daryl Sittler ten point game. You know his responses
- 3:56Speaker 1: when I said, what was going through your mind? Because
- 3:57Speaker 1: I honestly thought it would have been broken by now.
- 3:59Speaker 1: And I said, really, you think like a tempoint game.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Wasn't that monumental chiep And he said, no, I knew
- 4:04Speaker 1: it was big, but I just would have thought with
- 4:06Speaker 1: Gretzky and the way the high scoring was in the eighties,
- 4:08Speaker 1: Brian Lemieux, McDavid, somebody would have broken it. And now
- 4:11Speaker 1: it feels it to me in many ways as a
- 4:12Speaker 1: hockey fan, unbreakable record ten points at Daryl Siler and
- 4:15Speaker 1: Lanny McDonald's a team at Sittler's.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Of course, back in the day with Toronto.
- 4:18Speaker 3: It's as one of those records.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Shit, did you just go? That's I see both aspects
- 4:23Speaker 2: of it.
- 4:23Speaker 1: One ten points in a game is maddening, But the
- 4:25Speaker 1: other thing, I kind of understand Darryl's play.
- 4:27Speaker 2: He would just would have expected some.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Twelve two games and we would have broken his record,
- 4:30Speaker 1: and it's not gonna happen today's game.
- 4:31Speaker 3: Well, I mean, goalies go down and butterfly now, so it's.
- 4:34Speaker 4: You know, a little bit kicks saving a beauty a
- 4:36Speaker 4: little different. It's a little harder to score from a
- 4:38Speaker 4: half Clapper from the point. Nothing against that era, because
- 4:41Speaker 4: you know, the technology wasn't there, so it was probably
- 4:43Speaker 4: a lot harder to stand up and shoot and you know,
- 4:47Speaker 4: swing those tree trunks that they had. But you know,
- 4:51Speaker 4: I mean, we've had a couple of what seven point games?
- 4:53Speaker 4: Is that the most we've had. We'll have to check.
- 4:54Speaker 4: I think seven point games. I know Nick Schmalt said
- 4:56Speaker 4: seven points last year?
- 4:58Speaker 1: Correct, Sam Gangye eight point game in twenty twelve, Alfredson's
- 5:02Speaker 1: seven point game in Oh wait, Yoger said one point
- 5:04Speaker 1: game in three thanks to tell for the could you
- 5:07Speaker 1: believe Avice? Of all the names with respect to Sam Ganye,
- 5:09Speaker 1: even Dave Gandhia is astounded by that.
- 5:11Speaker 3: That's crazy.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Back to Austin Matthews, this is a guy who with
- 5:15Speaker 1: twenty four goals going into that game, sixty nine a
- 5:17Speaker 1: season ago, and I know he's missed fifteen games. But
- 5:19Speaker 1: if you look at great goal scorers in the past,
- 5:21Speaker 1: and I don't care who what it is, Gretzky, Bossy,
- 5:23Speaker 1: let you Stephen Samcoast, if you have a sixty goal season.
- 5:28Speaker 2: There's never been that precipitous to drop.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Even taking to account the fact that Matthews missed fifteen games,
- 5:33Speaker 1: so I'm with you that he kind of needed all
- 5:34Speaker 1: those games.
- 5:34Speaker 2: The Leafs in general needed a game like that.
- 5:36Speaker 1: They only won one of their last six games. Matthews
- 5:39Speaker 1: goes a couple up to twenty six. Maybe he's hurt,
- 5:41Speaker 1: as you suggested, maybe just not having that strong a season.
- 5:43Speaker 1: But it's a little surprising the Austin Matthews at this point,
- 5:45Speaker 1: the only has twenty six goals after sixty nine a
- 5:48Speaker 1: year ago. Martin, by the way, on pice for one
- 5:49Speaker 1: hundred and one points, A guy who always gets beat
- 5:51Speaker 1: up by the Toronto media, still having another trong season.
- 5:54Speaker 2: The Golden Thing hasn't been as strong lately.
- 5:55Speaker 1: But for Calgary's perspective, I love Ryan Hoska, always an
- 5:58Speaker 1: engaging coach, Nazim Caji, my guy Gdi. They don't have
- 6:01Speaker 1: much offensive talent. Let's be blunt. I mean they won
- 6:04Speaker 1: the game against the Rangers last night two one. That's
- 6:06Speaker 1: how you win games. Dustin Wolf plays right tight game,
- 6:08Speaker 1: Catriw scores a goal and assists.
- 6:10Speaker 3: That's it.
- 6:10Speaker 1: It's got him and humor. Though, do you need more
- 6:12Speaker 1: from Sharon Gobitz than these other players? They might make
- 6:14Speaker 1: the playoffs. But I think it's fasting as we look
- 6:16Speaker 1: at the playoff race. Now, if I said to you
- 6:18Speaker 1: right now, okay, that playoff race Vancouver, I would have
- 6:21Speaker 1: argued the most talented roster, But no JT. Miller now,
- 6:23Speaker 1: no Demco Hughes is not one hundred percent Flames Again,
- 6:27Speaker 1: They've got the best goalie probably with Wolf Utah maybe
- 6:29Speaker 1: still a year away, with some young talent, your boy
- 6:31Speaker 1: Clayton Keller. And then Saint Louis. They've got the best
- 6:34Speaker 1: scheduled down the stretch. Ten games against non playoff teams,
- 6:37Speaker 1: three against nashvillef I'm not mistaken, So that race feels
- 6:40Speaker 1: really wide open.
- 6:41Speaker 4: I think it comes down to I was kind of
- 6:43Speaker 4: looking at it today. Yes, Saint Louis has the easiest
- 6:46Speaker 4: schedule in the league in the remaining the remaining games,
- 6:49Speaker 4: but I think it's with Quinn Hughes back, and if
- 6:51Speaker 4: Quinn Hughes is healthy and how much he dominates play
- 6:54Speaker 4: and dominance offensively, they're just a different team with him
- 6:56Speaker 4: in the lineup. They absolutely just put a shit kicking
- 6:59Speaker 4: on the Jets last night, and a lot to do
- 7:02Speaker 4: with Quinn Hughes. But I think it's gonna be between.
- 7:06Speaker 4: It's really gonna end up being Vancouver or Saint Louis.
- 7:09Speaker 4: I think Calgary just doesn't have enough. And I think
- 7:12Speaker 4: the season Dustin Wolf has had has been incredible. And
- 7:15Speaker 4: if they do make the playoffs, he should be the
- 7:17Speaker 4: odds on call their favorite.
- 7:18Speaker 3: He should win it. But Utah huge.
- 7:21Speaker 2: If they don't make the playoffs, who wins it then celebrating.
- 7:24Speaker 4: That's a tough one because Hudson right now, Montreal is
- 7:26Speaker 4: lining up to make the playoffs right now, and because
- 7:29Speaker 4: like everything you talked about, there's so many things that
- 7:31Speaker 4: happened last night with losses like it for playoffs and
- 7:34Speaker 4: there's still a lot of games left. But Saint Louis
- 7:37Speaker 4: kind of getting close to Vancouver was huge. I just
- 7:40Speaker 4: think with their schedule they can do it over Vancouver.
- 7:44Speaker 4: But it's I think it's gonna come down to the wire.
- 7:46Speaker 4: But I think it's those two in the West. I
- 7:49Speaker 4: think Utah got that was a bad loss for them
- 7:51Speaker 4: last night. They could not There was a bad loss,
- 7:53Speaker 4: and then everybody else won. That's where it's tough when
- 7:55Speaker 4: you lose and then everybody you're not getting any help.
- 7:58Speaker 4: And then conversely, in the East, like, you know, Montreal
- 8:01Speaker 4: gets that win, Rangers could not. That's one of those games.
- 8:05Speaker 4: If they don't make the playoffs, they're kicking themselves because
- 8:07Speaker 4: they should have won that game against Calgary and back
- 8:09Speaker 4: to back after getting you know, just absolutely destroyed in
- 8:13Speaker 4: Toronto and they're fresh and they just came out lifeless.
- 8:15Speaker 4: So for me in the East, I think it's gonna be.
- 8:19Speaker 4: I think much I want in Montreal Ottawa.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Just to give me the perspective again, very Wednesday action
- 8:25Speaker 1: in the West, four teams separated by four points, and
- 8:27Speaker 1: as you said right now, you feel like Saint Louis Vancouver.
- 8:29Speaker 3: Is the edge.
- 8:29Speaker 2: In the East, six teams.
- 8:32Speaker 1: Separated by four points for the final wild card Habs, yeah, Rangers,
- 8:36Speaker 1: Red Wings, Blue Jackets, Bruins, Islanders.
- 8:38Speaker 2: I'll discount Boston and the Islanders. It's one of and.
- 8:42Speaker 4: Red Wings that kind of shouts themselves in the foot
- 8:44Speaker 4: too big time.
- 8:45Speaker 2: So Halbs, Rangers are Blue Jackets.
- 8:47Speaker 3: Let's go Habs well, ay Abs.
- 8:50Speaker 4: If Canada needs this, we need this nice you know
- 8:53Speaker 4: with the tariff scarffs, we need it. There's a lot
- 8:55Speaker 4: of shit. Do you see that Toronto maple Leafs raising
- 8:58Speaker 4: ticket price? This season ticket price is twenty percent. Oh,
- 9:01Speaker 4: it's it's insanity.
- 9:04Speaker 3: They it's even.
- 9:05Speaker 1: After you called out the lower bowl and now they're
- 9:07Speaker 1: raising tickets rights even more.
- 9:08Speaker 2: We we Jason.
- 9:10Speaker 4: We interviewed Izzy Daniel, who plays with the Toronto Scepters
- 9:14Speaker 4: in the PDVHL, and she said that the lower She's like,
- 9:18Speaker 4: I was just at a Toronto Mapleafs game. She goes,
- 9:20Speaker 4: that's a quiet lower bowl and I was like, thank you,
- 9:23Speaker 4: you fell into the person, another person, another person, and.
- 9:27Speaker 2: That she plays with the Toronto Steps.
- 9:30Speaker 3: She's in the reader.
- 9:31Speaker 4: But the PDVHL fans are when they go to Toronto
- 9:34Speaker 4: and they scream. So all right, so your team in
- 9:36Speaker 4: the easter're picking the habs, I think so. And then Ottawa,
- 9:39Speaker 4: I think I have done it. But the thing with
- 9:41Speaker 4: Ottawa is you look is they played three times against
- 9:43Speaker 4: Columbus before the end of the season, so that's six points.
- 9:46Speaker 4: So if you look, if either team, Columbus wins all
- 9:50Speaker 4: three right now, they're one point back. But if all
- 9:53Speaker 4: Autawa has to do is kind of go get a
- 9:55Speaker 4: couple of points there and Columbus is done. So I
- 9:58Speaker 4: think that hurts. Even though you know they had they
- 10:00Speaker 4: should have won that game against the Devils. That was
- 10:03Speaker 4: you know, we're gonna give some love to the Devils
- 10:05Speaker 4: after this, but they should have won that game. They dominant.
- 10:07Speaker 4: Jake Allen was you know, stood on his head. But yeah,
- 10:10Speaker 4: with with the Blue Jackets, I just don't know. They're
- 10:13Speaker 4: running out of time and it's tough when you get
- 10:16Speaker 4: a leap frog these teams, and teams can get the
- 10:19Speaker 4: the sissy point and get the you know, the overtime
- 10:21Speaker 4: shootout because it gets really tight and it's gonna come
- 10:25Speaker 4: down to the wire though. But it's it's exciting. I
- 10:27Speaker 4: just think Montreal, that fan base Bell Center, Oh my god,
- 10:31Speaker 4: they're so loud right now there. It's it's incredible. My
- 10:34Speaker 4: dad's been so excited. He's say, he's never watched as
- 10:36Speaker 4: much hockey, you know with Harold Harold, Oh he's locked in,
- 10:40Speaker 4: locked in, fucking loaded. He sent me last like yeah.
- 10:43Speaker 3: Baby, he's like halfs.
- 10:46Speaker 1: I was like, let's go all right, you're liking the halfs.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Just let's get a little love to the Devil's just right.
- 10:52Speaker 1: With one Porler last five, you lose Jack Hughes for
- 10:55Speaker 1: the season. Also, maybe the sky is falling. Their third
- 10:57Speaker 1: place in the Metro. But Bratt Meyer, he Shuer all
- 11:00Speaker 1: been great looks at a first round series against the Hurricanes.
- 11:02Speaker 1: They're analytical bent. I don't think they can make a
- 11:05Speaker 1: run about Jack Hughes. But the fact they played so
- 11:07Speaker 1: well that them surprises me. And by the way, Monday
- 11:09Speaker 1: night's game on Prime early look ahead, we've got the
- 11:12Speaker 1: Canucks and the Devils. We had the game we were
- 11:14Speaker 1: hoping it was the Huge Bowl. Unfortunately Jack will not
- 11:16Speaker 1: be there, but still catch the game Monday on Prime.
- 11:18Speaker 1: How do you feel about these Diablos of Kendanico, The.
- 11:22Speaker 4: Diablos, I think they're gonna They're gonna make it in
- 11:28Speaker 4: I I didn't.
- 11:29Speaker 3: I think they can they beat the Hurricanes. No, that's
- 11:32Speaker 3: a tough one. That's it.
- 11:33Speaker 4: Here's the thing is people will say, oh, it's a
- 11:36Speaker 4: tough first round matchup for Devils, but it's kind of
- 11:40Speaker 4: a tough one for Carolina. It's a team that kind
- 11:43Speaker 4: of plays a little bit loose. They kind of have
- 11:46Speaker 4: some skill on the back end. You know, Carolina can't
- 11:49Speaker 4: kind of will their way through. It's gonna be if
- 11:51Speaker 4: they can just Outwill Jersey and beat him down. But
- 11:54Speaker 4: you look at the goaltending duo and Jersey, and that's
- 11:56Speaker 4: gonna be the difference. Jake Allen and Jacob Barksham like
- 11:59Speaker 4: if they can steal some games, and that's that's been
- 12:02Speaker 4: the difference, is that they've had some. He brought these
- 12:05Speaker 4: goalies and Fitzgerald did to steal games and they've done
- 12:08Speaker 4: this recently, like they a lot of these games they
- 12:10Speaker 4: shouldn't have won. And then conversely, also if you look
- 12:13Speaker 4: up front, you talk Timo Meyer, Nico Hescher, but Timo Meyer,
- 12:16Speaker 4: everybody goes, wow, he's scoring now and he wasn't scoring before.
- 12:18Speaker 4: Tim O myyer doesn't know how to not be the guy.
- 12:20Speaker 4: He doesn't know how to be a secondary scorer. He
- 12:23Speaker 4: needs to be the person. And he's getting that opportunity
- 12:27Speaker 4: with Jack out and you can see him he's kind
- 12:28Speaker 4: of running with it because he kind of likes that
- 12:31Speaker 4: being the guy. He was like that when San Jose,
- 12:33Speaker 4: when it was him and he was kind of leading
- 12:36Speaker 4: their offense was he was more engaged and more physical
- 12:40Speaker 4: and you can see that again. So it's gonna be
- 12:43Speaker 4: an interesting matchup. It's not my favorite matchup in the
- 12:45Speaker 4: East in round one, but it's really going to be interesting.
- 12:48Speaker 3: How it shakes out.
- 12:49Speaker 4: But like if I'm right now, if you're looking at
- 12:52Speaker 4: Washington too, like they're Washington's at the top, they're finishing.
- 12:55Speaker 2: First Abbs Caps Rangers Caps.
- 12:58Speaker 4: Habs would be a fantastic matchup and would be a
- 13:02Speaker 4: tough one for Capitals to get. I wouldn't want Montreal
- 13:05Speaker 4: in the first round just because that fan base. It's
- 13:07Speaker 4: gonna be. Bell Center is one of the loudest buildings
- 13:10Speaker 4: in the best place to watch a game in hot Oh.
- 13:12Speaker 3: It's the best, best, best place to call a game too.
- 13:15Speaker 4: Doing radio there, it's you're right on top of the
- 13:17Speaker 4: fans and it's just so loud.
- 13:19Speaker 3: It's like a party there.
- 13:21Speaker 2: Nothingly the NHL General Managers meetings in Palm Beach, Florida,
- 13:24Speaker 2: this week.
- 13:25Speaker 3: I mean, EJ E.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Raddick locked in right now. I'm feeling in forant for NHL.
- 13:28Speaker 1: I go whyt me tonanciel type first shift and Mike
- 13:30Speaker 1: AG's got the Florida trip, him and Dan Rosen on
- 13:32Speaker 1: the beach together, so hopefully that's gonna go great. But
- 13:35Speaker 1: as far as news is concerned, according to Elliot Friedman,
- 13:38Speaker 1: one of the main topics these mid season best on
- 13:41Speaker 1: best international tournaments. Everyone's still talking about four n agents right,
- 13:44Speaker 1: highest numbers in ESPN thirty years. Blah blah blah. Everyone
- 13:47Speaker 1: so excited obviously next year to the Olympics taking place
- 13:48Speaker 1: in Italy. But it doesn't interrupt the season and you
- 13:51Speaker 1: can speak to this. Is there anything you can do,
- 13:53Speaker 1: JD to help the schedule because you have the best
- 13:55Speaker 1: players in the world. Go go go, go go go
- 13:57Speaker 1: playing for their team, playing for their fans.
- 13:59Speaker 2: Pause.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Oh, no, pause, I'm going best on best and then
- 14:02Speaker 1: coming right on back. Is there anything we can do
- 14:04Speaker 1: to help these guys out?
- 14:06Speaker 4: Huh oh, sorry, dozed off there to GM meetings. This
- 14:10Speaker 4: is what we're doing now, Okay, Oh my god. Yeah
- 14:14Speaker 4: they Elliott Freeman just said they went to the GM meetings.
- 14:17Speaker 4: They all played golf and they got nothing done.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Something.
- 14:22Speaker 4: What they're in man Alapan, Florida, just swinging the club around,
- 14:25Speaker 4: sing at the Ritz Carlton, Yeah, lots getting down there.
- 14:28Speaker 4: Oh they said, Oh, we talked about three on threes,
- 14:30Speaker 4: We talked about gold interference. But yeah, we think everything's
- 14:33Speaker 4: good as is.
- 14:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:34Speaker 4: Of course, hockey's the hottest thing it's been of all time.
- 14:37Speaker 4: Why would they want to change anything? Other than maybe
- 14:40Speaker 4: my three on three change that I think they should do.
- 14:43Speaker 4: But we'll talk about that another time, because we're talking
- 14:46Speaker 4: about the GM scheduling, and I think, yes, the league
- 14:50Speaker 4: should get back to I don't love that we're starting
- 14:53Speaker 4: later and later and finishing later and later, but I
- 14:55Speaker 4: do understand that based on TV ratings, they're trying to
- 14:58Speaker 4: find that sweet spot where they're not having a battle
- 15:01Speaker 4: with football or baseball. And that's a tough thing. But
- 15:04Speaker 4: I think I think that if the game keeps getting
- 15:06Speaker 4: built the way it's getting built, I think they can
- 15:08Speaker 4: throw that out and just go on their own schedule,
- 15:11Speaker 4: because if we bring in enough fans, it doesn't matter.
- 15:12Speaker 4: We're not gonna lose people to football and baseball. We're
- 15:16Speaker 4: gonna become our own thing. So I would like to
- 15:18Speaker 4: see I liked when the finals finished on my birthday
- 15:22Speaker 4: June ninth, versus like June twenty fifth, June twenty sixth. Now,
- 15:26Speaker 4: I just feel like two months before training camps just
- 15:28Speaker 4: tough for everybody, and it's tough for the players. And
- 15:32Speaker 4: you know now that you have these which obviously the
- 15:34Speaker 4: Four Nations was a raging success, and then you have
- 15:37Speaker 4: the Olympics, next year, and you're gonna have the World
- 15:39Speaker 4: Cup of Hockey. These are crazy events that are amazing,
- 15:44Speaker 4: and I think the players really like them, but they
- 15:46Speaker 4: come at such a the only place you can put
- 15:48Speaker 4: them is after January or February whatever it is, in
- 15:51Speaker 4: the middle of the season. But then you're gonna invite
- 15:53Speaker 4: injuries and you're gonna invite some guys getting fatigued, and
- 15:57Speaker 4: I don't love that, but it is what it is,
- 15:59Speaker 4: and it grows the game, and that's the most important thing.
- 16:01Speaker 3: So there's my answer. Sucking.
- 16:03Speaker 1: So the answers are there's no answer. Essentially, we have
- 16:06Speaker 1: to eat these best of the best tournaments. Why I
- 16:08Speaker 1: was short in the league, so you just have to
- 16:09Speaker 1: have games being played June twenty eighth.
- 16:11Speaker 4: One hundred percent. Why I was sleeping when you were
- 16:13Speaker 4: talking asking me that question. Is this scripted or unscripted?
- 16:17Speaker 1: Okay, so that was an unscripted answer. I was hoping
- 16:20Speaker 1: for something better, if I'm being honest.
- 16:21Speaker 4: But what do you mean, what do you want me
- 16:22Speaker 4: to say, Oh, let's just have the season start at
- 16:25Speaker 4: June and finish.
- 16:25Speaker 2: Give me a sixty game season.
- 16:27Speaker 3: Do something, why too? I mean, you do what hockey.
- 16:31Speaker 2: June twenty eighth. Insane, that's insane.
- 16:32Speaker 4: If games ship, they should go back to training camp
- 16:36Speaker 4: in September and finish earlier, start earlier, finish earlier.
- 16:39Speaker 2: There you go, there's an answer that's that's constructive advice.
- 16:42Speaker 3: Do you want my answer forget about it?
- 16:45Speaker 1: Coming up next after this break and NHL n scripted,
- 16:47Speaker 1: Dylan Strom, what's it like having a bird's eye view
- 16:49Speaker 1: right now to the great Chase? Strom will tell us
- 16:52Speaker 1: and what has been a great season for him and
- 16:53Speaker 1: the Capitols, And yes, Alexander Ovechkin, that's next. Our first
- 17:10Speaker 1: guest was drafted third overall by the Arizona Counties in
- 17:13Speaker 1: twenty and fifteen. After being traded to the Chicago Blackhawks
- 17:17Speaker 1: in twenty eighteen, he signed with the Washington Capitals in
- 17:19Speaker 1: twenty twenty two. He is now one of the top
- 17:22Speaker 1: players on the best team in hockey this season. Ladies
- 17:25Speaker 1: and gentlemen, Dylan Strom here in NHL unscripted, Dylan, good
- 17:28Speaker 1: to see you.
- 17:29Speaker 5: Thanks for having me, boys, appreciate it.
- 17:31Speaker 1: We're gonna get into the Great Chase and all that
- 17:34Speaker 1: into a second, but just being on this Capitols team
- 17:36Speaker 1: right now, a team that is hurtling towards one hundred
- 17:39Speaker 1: points top spot in the Eastern Conference.
- 17:41Speaker 2: How much fun has this season been?
- 17:43Speaker 6: I mean, it's been a ton of fun. I've never
- 17:45Speaker 6: been on a you know, a team as good as
- 17:46Speaker 6: this in the NHL. You know, It's it's nice to
- 17:51Speaker 6: have that team confidence where you go into every game
- 17:53Speaker 6: expecting to win, even when we're down in the game.
- 17:55Speaker 6: I feel like we have the you know, the confidence
- 17:57Speaker 6: that we're that we're gonna get you know, a couple
- 17:59Speaker 6: of goals, or we're going to get at least some chances.
- 18:00Speaker 5: And our goaltending has been incredible this year.
- 18:03Speaker 6: So I feel from top to bottom, we got a
- 18:06Speaker 6: you know, a really good, uh good group of guys
- 18:08Speaker 6: and and uh on a team that you know, we
- 18:11Speaker 6: we don't really take any games off, which is nice
- 18:14Speaker 6: to see, and and it feels like we're in every game.
- 18:16Speaker 6: So it's been a ton of fun. And uh, I know,
- 18:19Speaker 6: the best part is just getting started.
- 18:21Speaker 3: Stromer.
- 18:22Speaker 4: It's so good to have you on and watching the
- 18:24Speaker 4: evolution of your game from when I played with you
- 18:26Speaker 4: in Arizona to now is just incredible. I mean, you
- 18:29Speaker 4: tied your career high last night, and what's that like
- 18:32Speaker 4: for you, you know, because there's times in your career
- 18:34Speaker 4: where you did battle adversity and and being a high
- 18:37Speaker 4: draft pick and and going through all those struggles. But
- 18:40Speaker 4: now just kind of being so comfortable in your game
- 18:43Speaker 4: and understanding exactly who you are. How where was that
- 18:45Speaker 4: shift in the mindset?
- 18:48Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, for sure, it's it's it's tough when
- 18:52Speaker 6: you you know, you have these expectations that you put
- 18:54Speaker 6: on yourself, and you know you want to do really well,
- 18:57Speaker 6: and you know, a team you know, puts a lot
- 18:59Speaker 6: of faith in you to draft you that high, especially
- 19:00Speaker 6: in such a good draft, and unfortunately it just never
- 19:04Speaker 6: worked out out there. I mean, I'm happy they got
- 19:05Speaker 6: a you know, a really good player you know, out
- 19:07Speaker 6: of the situation and a guy that's still you know,
- 19:09Speaker 6: playing for that organization. Obviously they switched over to Utah now,
- 19:12Speaker 6: but but Schmaltz is doing really well there. So you know,
- 19:16Speaker 6: you definitely have doubts about yourself when things aren't going
- 19:19Speaker 6: well or when you're not playing, or know, whatever the
- 19:22Speaker 6: reason may be. But just definitely since I got to Washington,
- 19:24Speaker 6: definitely just feel feel more comfortable, feel you know, feel
- 19:29Speaker 6: like I you know, I had you know, a purpose
- 19:32Speaker 6: to to be on the team and where they saw
- 19:34Speaker 6: me fit and when you're going through free agency, it's weird,
- 19:37Speaker 6: like I never really expected to to go through it
- 19:39Speaker 6: at you know, that early, especially when you're you're still
- 19:41Speaker 6: a restricted free agent and then you don't get qualified,
- 19:44Speaker 6: so it kind of hits you pretty fast. And then
- 19:46Speaker 6: you know, sometimes when a team just gives you that,
- 19:47Speaker 6: you know, that chance, they they definitely, uh, you know,
- 19:50Speaker 6: had some really good things to say about me and
- 19:52Speaker 6: and Sabby where they you know, kind of told me
- 19:54Speaker 6: beforehand where they where they saw me fitting in and
- 19:56Speaker 6: where they kind of saw things going. So I feel
- 19:58Speaker 6: like when you hear that sometimes it just it kind
- 19:59Speaker 6: of gives you that confidence to just just be yourself
- 20:02Speaker 6: and and be the player that you know you can be.
- 20:03Speaker 6: And especially when you got guys here that have won
- 20:06Speaker 6: Stanley Cups and have been around the block, and you know,
- 20:09Speaker 6: the success this team's had I think I think in
- 20:11Speaker 6: Obie's career, I think they've missed the playoffs like maybe
- 20:14Speaker 6: two or three times, maybe you know, in twenty years,
- 20:17Speaker 6: it's pretty incredible. So you know, when you're around winners
- 20:21Speaker 6: and you're around you know, guys that have done it
- 20:23Speaker 6: for a long time. It just it kind of makes
- 20:25Speaker 6: you know your your transition pretty seamless. And that's what
- 20:27Speaker 6: it's been for me so far.
- 20:28Speaker 5: Here.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Yeah, you signed that one years deal with Washington, and
- 20:30Speaker 1: really your career has changed. You mentioned Ov and the
- 20:33Speaker 1: Svechkin great chase, which is captivated all of us. My
- 20:36Speaker 1: friend James Datie Tessen point out of years ago what
- 20:38Speaker 1: might have been the most remarkable Think about a Vetchkins.
- 20:40Speaker 1: For years, his water bottle was loaded with doctor pepper.
- 20:43Speaker 1: Can you confirm or deny does he still do that?
- 20:46Speaker 5: I think it's coke. I don't.
- 20:47Speaker 6: I don't know if he used to be doctor pepper
- 20:49Speaker 6: or not, but yeah, that's definitely uh uh.
- 20:52Speaker 5: He loves his coke.
- 20:53Speaker 6: You know, during the between the periods and on the benches,
- 20:55Speaker 6: he doesn't drink it. I don't think all the time,
- 20:56Speaker 6: but you know, when he comes off and I guess
- 20:58Speaker 6: when he needs that little burst of energy or something,
- 21:01Speaker 6: uh just uh, you know, grabs a couple of swigs
- 21:03Speaker 6: of coke and he's right back out there.
- 21:05Speaker 5: So, I mean, what the guy's doing is just incredible.
- 21:08Speaker 6: And and the way he goes into each game, and
- 21:11Speaker 6: and the way teams defend against him, It's something that
- 21:14Speaker 6: I've never I've never seen before.
- 21:15Speaker 5: I play with some pretty good players.
- 21:16Speaker 6: And and McDavid and Kane and Taves and you know
- 21:20Speaker 6: guys that you know, our our elite, you know, top
- 21:24Speaker 6: of the league players in the NHL or whatever league
- 21:26Speaker 6: that they've been in. But you know, you don't see
- 21:28Speaker 6: too many teams defending against the guy the way that
- 21:30Speaker 6: teams defend against ov. I mean even five on five,
- 21:33Speaker 6: you know, they pretty much have a guy on him
- 21:34Speaker 6: the whole time. So it's definitely you know, poses his
- 21:38Speaker 6: challenges and I think he kind of just shows what
- 21:41Speaker 6: he's doing is all the more impressive. I mean, I
- 21:43Speaker 6: think he has like ten power play goals this year
- 21:45Speaker 6: and every single power player guy's just consistently staying on
- 21:48Speaker 6: him the whole time. So it's it's, uh, you know,
- 21:50Speaker 6: the way he gets open, and uh, you know, it's
- 21:52Speaker 6: been a lot of fun to be a part of.
- 21:53Speaker 5: And and now I.
- 21:55Speaker 6: Know, we got fourteen games left here to get to
- 21:57Speaker 6: get eight goals, but we're working towards that, and you know,
- 22:01Speaker 6: if it doesn't happen, we got we got eighty two
- 22:02Speaker 6: next year to to to figure it out.
- 22:05Speaker 3: Russian machine don't break, that's for sure.
- 22:08Speaker 4: But I mean talk about your your guys' chemistry, because
- 22:11Speaker 4: do you guys have a lot of chatter and it
- 22:13Speaker 4: take you did it take you some time to figure
- 22:15Speaker 4: him out and figure out where he's gonna be because,
- 22:17Speaker 4: like you say, you know, there's always somebody on him,
- 22:20Speaker 4: so you really have to find that window. And you
- 22:22Speaker 4: know before you was Nick Backstrom, And have you had
- 22:25Speaker 4: any conversations with him or did he approach you a
- 22:27Speaker 4: little bit to be like, hey, this is kind of
- 22:29Speaker 4: where over likes it because he is a particular guy,
- 22:32Speaker 4: like he is.
- 22:32Speaker 3: Very unique and where he needs the puck.
- 22:34Speaker 4: But also it's like he's so elite that you can't
- 22:38Speaker 4: get it to him anywhere and he's gonna find the net.
- 22:39Speaker 4: So how how has that been in like the chatter
- 22:42Speaker 4: between you two?
- 22:44Speaker 5: Yeah, I would say it definitely took a little bit
- 22:45Speaker 5: at first.
- 22:46Speaker 6: I feel like it took a little bit to kind
- 22:48Speaker 6: of figure out, just because when I was in Chicago,
- 22:50Speaker 6: I was playing a lot with Kane, and you know,
- 22:54Speaker 6: Kane is definitely a guy who carries the puck more
- 22:56Speaker 6: and wants the puck on his stick, and you know,
- 22:58Speaker 6: kind of is the the play driver of the line,
- 23:00Speaker 6: and then coming to Washington, it's pretty much the puller
- 23:04Speaker 6: off it. Like he wants you to have it on
- 23:05Speaker 6: your stick. He wants to be the one to get
- 23:08Speaker 6: open passes, no backhand passes. He definitely, uh, you know,
- 23:15Speaker 6: we we've we've had lots of conversations. It was honestly
- 23:18Speaker 6: probably three or four games until you know, we got
- 23:21Speaker 6: put on a line together, and you know, you get
- 23:23Speaker 6: all the Ozone draws, you get all the you know.
- 23:25Speaker 5: The the good chances to score and the power play time.
- 23:28Speaker 6: And it was nice to get to see him in
- 23:31Speaker 6: back he you know, play together for a little bit.
- 23:33Speaker 6: I know, a vacuum only played like fifty games or
- 23:35Speaker 6: sixty games maybe when I was here through through my time,
- 23:39Speaker 6: but even just seeing them together and it's kind of
- 23:41Speaker 6: seeing how they they work, and you know the obviously
- 23:45Speaker 6: we watch a lot of film here, so the you know,
- 23:48Speaker 6: the passes that he makes and the kind of the
- 23:50Speaker 6: team that he does. I don't think anyone's as good
- 23:51Speaker 6: as a passer as Backstrom, and I'm not sure anyone
- 23:55Speaker 6: ever will be, especially to Obie in that sense. But
- 23:58Speaker 6: they're trying to just watch them and see how they
- 24:00Speaker 6: work together, and especially in the power play where uh,
- 24:03Speaker 6: you know, it looks like there's I don't know, I'm
- 24:05Speaker 6: sure you guys seen some of the videos where always
- 24:06Speaker 6: kind of just standing there with his stick across his
- 24:08Speaker 6: across his waist and then next thing, you know, you know,
- 24:11Speaker 6: the pucks in the back of the net. And I
- 24:13Speaker 6: learned a lot from from Kuznetsov too, because you know,
- 24:16Speaker 6: the way they kind of can play together. I feel
- 24:17Speaker 6: like the Russians have a have a way of playing
- 24:20Speaker 6: their own brand of hockey, and you know, to see
- 24:22Speaker 6: them kind of you know, communicate on the ice and
- 24:25Speaker 6: the way they did it, it was fun to watch it
- 24:27Speaker 6: and fun to be a part of being on the
- 24:29Speaker 6: power play with those two guys, uh, Kouzi and Ovi.
- 24:31Speaker 6: Was was something that I learned a law from it
- 24:34Speaker 6: and just try to continue on with that that kind
- 24:36Speaker 6: of tradition.
- 24:38Speaker 1: Yeah, Dylan, you don't want to put the car before
- 24:40Speaker 1: the horse. But as you said, hopefully this record does
- 24:42Speaker 1: get broken this year. Have you guys discussed any potential
- 24:45Speaker 1: plans of what to do? Are you gonna storm the
- 24:47Speaker 1: ice like brave Heart?
- 24:49Speaker 6: Well, I know on goal eight hundred, we did, and
- 24:52Speaker 6: eight oh two we did, which was obviously to the
- 24:56Speaker 6: two most recent milestones, So I would assume something like that.
- 24:58Speaker 5: Yeah, I know they've talked about how Batman and uh, you.
- 25:03Speaker 6: Know, wing Gratzky are gonna be in the bi you know,
- 25:04Speaker 6: when he has I think when he has five to
- 25:06Speaker 6: go and and and counting. So, I mean, I don't
- 25:09Speaker 6: really know. I've definitely thought about it a ton of
- 25:11Speaker 6: what's gonna happen. You know, we talked a little bit
- 25:13Speaker 6: about here, like you know, what's who's gonna get the puck,
- 25:15Speaker 6: how much security is going to be there. You know,
- 25:17Speaker 6: he takes pretty much everything he has after he scores,
- 25:20Speaker 6: especially now, and keeps it for himself or keeps it
- 25:23Speaker 6: in his museum or wherever he does with it. We
- 25:25Speaker 6: don't really know what he does with it. I'm sure
- 25:26Speaker 6: we'll find out one day. But he takes all his jersey.
- 25:29Speaker 6: You gotta sign his jerseys, Uh, sign his jersey if
- 25:31Speaker 6: you get an assist on a goal.
- 25:33Speaker 5: He keeps everything.
- 25:34Speaker 6: So no, it's I mean, it's almost hard to grasp
- 25:39Speaker 6: when you're kind of in it because it's like, you know,
- 25:41Speaker 6: obviously he's eight goals away, which is insane.
- 25:43Speaker 5: But you know, eight goals is a lot for anyone
- 25:46Speaker 5: to get.
- 25:46Speaker 6: I mean that it's still a lot, and it's not
- 25:48Speaker 6: a lot for him, but you know, we're hoping that
- 25:51Speaker 6: he gets you know, we're hoping that he has a
- 25:53Speaker 6: couple of you know, two goal games and it you know,
- 25:54Speaker 6: it gets a little bit you know, more within reach.
- 25:56Speaker 6: But no, it's it's been incredible, and I think it's
- 26:00Speaker 6: only going to get crazier. I mean, you we our
- 26:02Speaker 6: crowd is chanting Ov with three minutes left in the game,
- 26:05Speaker 6: like hoping the other team pulls their goalie.
- 26:07Speaker 5: I mean, the building is just crazy.
- 26:09Speaker 6: We were in San Jose and I think like half
- 26:12Speaker 6: the arena was standing up when he scored in San
- 26:14Speaker 6: Jose and and it's just like people want to see
- 26:17Speaker 6: him score. He scored at MSG a week and a
- 26:19Speaker 6: half ago, and the building was shanning Ov like it's
- 26:21Speaker 6: just you know, things that just don't happen on a
- 26:23Speaker 6: regular basis are happening, and it's it's it's cool to
- 26:26Speaker 6: be a part of.
- 26:27Speaker 4: Well, like any other player, it's like, you know, eight,
- 26:30Speaker 4: eight goals in fourteen games, like that's hard for anybody.
- 26:32Speaker 4: And they're like, yeah, he's gonna get it this year,
- 26:34Speaker 4: Like we're at the network, Yeah, what what day is
- 26:36Speaker 4: he getting it?
- 26:36Speaker 3: I'm like, he's got to get eight. I'm like, that's yeah,
- 26:38Speaker 3: I know, I know, yeah, you're playing.
- 26:41Speaker 4: But talk about that is like as a team, like,
- 26:44Speaker 4: because you guys have have been just so laser focused
- 26:48Speaker 4: and confident all year. You guys have been you know,
- 26:49Speaker 4: wired to wire for me, the best team in the league.
- 26:51Speaker 4: And has it been a big large in part because
- 26:54Speaker 4: of the ov chas or is it just because the
- 26:56Speaker 4: belief in the room and and you know, seeing that
- 26:59Speaker 4: Brian McClellan and the brain truster in Washington are just
- 27:02Speaker 4: kind of putting a good product down the ice for
- 27:05Speaker 4: you guys and trying to be competitive.
- 27:07Speaker 5: I think it would be a combination of all the things.
- 27:10Speaker 6: I think, you know, when when Ovi scores a goal,
- 27:13Speaker 6: it definitely energizes the whole building, energizes our team, and
- 27:18Speaker 6: we seem to get so much extra life from that.
- 27:20Speaker 6: And then you know, obviously with him getting hurt in
- 27:23Speaker 6: November there, you know, I thought our team did a
- 27:26Speaker 6: really good job of kind of you know, not letting it,
- 27:29Speaker 6: you know, hinder our season. You know, he had fifteen
- 27:32Speaker 6: goals in eighteen games at the time, and when when
- 27:34Speaker 6: when you lose a guy that has that, that's obviously
- 27:36Speaker 6: that's pretty basically a goal of game. And so when
- 27:38Speaker 6: you lose a goal a game from your lineup, you
- 27:40Speaker 6: you'd think things would dip a little bit. But I
- 27:42Speaker 6: think kind of like you said, with with McClellan and
- 27:44Speaker 6: Chris Patrick and the what they've done with you know,
- 27:46Speaker 6: adding the pieces that we've added, like you know, you
- 27:48Speaker 6: know Chicky pretty well obviously, and he's just been a
- 27:51Speaker 6: monster back on the blue line, Like he has eighteen goals,
- 27:53Speaker 6: and you know, he's just so good with the puck.
- 27:55Speaker 5: He's got so much confidence. He you know, he uses
- 27:57Speaker 5: confidence and.
- 27:58Speaker 6: Then he add you know, du Bois and how good
- 28:01Speaker 6: he's been for us and him and protests have have
- 28:03Speaker 6: been you know, I don't know the exact numbers, but
- 28:06Speaker 6: I got to think that they're they're up there with
- 28:08Speaker 6: with the elite of the NHL.
- 28:09Speaker 5: I five one, five.
- 28:10Speaker 4: And oh yeah, what is what is he doesn't have
- 28:12Speaker 4: a five on it doesn't have a power play goal
- 28:14Speaker 4: and he's got like five goals.
- 28:16Speaker 6: It's yeah, yeah, yeah, he's he's built in a lab
- 28:19Speaker 6: protest for sure, he's a he's a horse. He just
- 28:21Speaker 6: broke the record last night for most points ever by
- 28:24Speaker 6: a bela Russian. I believe, I believe in one season.
- 28:27Speaker 6: So I mean, the guy's ridiculous. We we've had some
- 28:30Speaker 6: great pickups, even like the the glue guys on our team,
- 28:33Speaker 6: like Brandon Newham is a guy we picked up from
- 28:35Speaker 6: Colorado and he was on Minnesota before that. He's just
- 28:39Speaker 6: I had no idea about this guy before, but I
- 28:41Speaker 6: can't imagine our team is the way we are without
- 28:43Speaker 6: him on our team. Just one of those guys that
- 28:45Speaker 6: you love to have in your room, just you know,
- 28:47Speaker 6: barking and you know, chirping everyone and fighting at any
- 28:51Speaker 6: time someone will say yes to him. So it's just
- 28:53Speaker 6: it brings your team to life. And you know, it's
- 28:55Speaker 6: it's a combination of lots of things. But it's been
- 28:57Speaker 6: heck of a ride and and hopefully we can you know,
- 28:59Speaker 6: cap it off with you know, maybe a President's Trophy
- 29:02Speaker 6: and and the Great Chase coming to a close.
- 29:04Speaker 4: You you talked about chick there, and and I have
- 29:07Speaker 4: to touch a little bit on Jacob Chickenen and all
- 29:10Speaker 4: of the things, all of the things he does off
- 29:12Speaker 4: ice What is he on right now? Is he on
- 29:14Speaker 4: the steak and beef towel or is he doing a
- 29:16Speaker 4: kettleball circuit?
- 29:17Speaker 3: Or is he doing cartwheels? What's he got going on?
- 29:20Speaker 5: Oh?
- 29:20Speaker 6: God, yeah, he's beef tallow is the one thing that
- 29:24Speaker 6: that gets brought up a lot here.
- 29:25Speaker 5: No, no, no oils. I don't know.
- 29:29Speaker 6: I honestly don't know. He's a new thing every day.
- 29:31Speaker 6: I heard yesterday that he's no light bulbs. He's doing
- 29:33Speaker 6: a candle candle light in his house. Now, yeah, that's
- 29:37Speaker 6: what That's what his saying. Thing was yesterday, So he
- 29:39Speaker 6: was on he was onto a bees wax candles, is
- 29:42Speaker 6: what I heard.
- 29:42Speaker 5: Is great for you. So now now we're we're all
- 29:44Speaker 5: talking about bees wax candles.
- 29:46Speaker 3: No light bulbs in the rink, whatever it takes.
- 29:49Speaker 5: That's nice to him, Like you can't you can't have
- 29:51Speaker 5: it one way. But I don't know. That's a topic
- 29:53Speaker 5: for a different day.
- 29:54Speaker 6: But like there's lights everywhere, Like what are you talking
- 29:56Speaker 6: about no light bulbs?
- 29:58Speaker 2: Speaking of lights and being in the spotlight.
- 30:00Speaker 1: Uh, Dylan, you've been used to it because you know,
- 30:01Speaker 1: play with contract David, the erie otters, the o HL
- 30:04Speaker 1: what was it like having so much attention again and
- 30:06Speaker 1: run a teammate like that as you're seeing now with
- 30:08Speaker 1: the Vechkin.
- 30:10Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean the situations are are are pretty similar.
- 30:13Speaker 6: Obviously you know a little bit greater of a stage now,
- 30:16Speaker 6: but you know when you're in that moment and you're
- 30:18Speaker 6: on a junior team and things are you know, pretty
- 30:21Speaker 6: crazy around the draft and you know there's talk like
- 30:23Speaker 6: he's the next Crosby and and things like that. So
- 30:26Speaker 6: it was definitely crazy back then. You know, we we
- 30:29Speaker 6: had a lot of fun. We had a you know,
- 30:30Speaker 6: an unbelievable team. We made some great pickups of the
- 30:33Speaker 6: deadline that year, and we had a lot of fun.
- 30:34Speaker 6: We made a run to the finals in the OHL
- 30:36Speaker 6: that year, and you know it was awesome to be
- 30:40Speaker 6: a part of it and kind of see a whole
- 30:41Speaker 6: city kind of get behind a team and you know
- 30:44Speaker 6: how that worked. So definitely some similarities with you know,
- 30:48Speaker 6: the kind of the superstardom you know type type people
- 30:51Speaker 6: and players. But I think just you know, seeing it
- 30:55Speaker 6: now and seeing it at you kind of a national
- 30:57Speaker 6: level and seeing it, you know, people are we have
- 31:01Speaker 6: people that come out of you know after practice and
- 31:03Speaker 6: there's people from there's people from Austria, from Germany. Someone
- 31:06Speaker 6: had to sign last night said I'm from Korea here
- 31:09Speaker 6: to see OV and like it's like, you know, people
- 31:11Speaker 6: are coming from everywhere near and far to see this
- 31:14Speaker 6: guy play.
- 31:14Speaker 5: So it's no, it's cool.
- 31:17Speaker 3: Uh.
- 31:17Speaker 4: I want to touch on you and family specifically, because
- 31:20Speaker 4: you know, I was watching a couple of the your
- 31:22Speaker 4: interviews last night and doing prep work like I never
- 31:25Speaker 4: did when I played hockey, but now on the interview
- 31:27Speaker 4: signed to do a lot of prep work. But I
- 31:29Speaker 4: want to just talk. I know you're a superstitious guy.
- 31:31Speaker 4: You're very superstitious. You're very particular about what you do
- 31:34Speaker 4: on game day, and it has to be kind of
- 31:37Speaker 4: very almost the same thing every time. Has that changed
- 31:40Speaker 4: now having kids you have two kids now, or or
- 31:42Speaker 4: have you found a way to kind of create like
- 31:44Speaker 4: a superstition with your kids and with your family with
- 31:47Speaker 4: your wife, Taylor, because I know how hard you know,
- 31:51Speaker 4: I never played when I When I played, I didn't
- 31:53Speaker 4: have kids. I was, you know, just with my my
- 31:56Speaker 4: wife now. But I always found it so impressive guys
- 31:59Speaker 4: getting up and playing and having energy after you know,
- 32:02Speaker 4: being up with kids or having to deal with with children.
- 32:05Speaker 4: So how is that superstition for you changed?
- 32:07Speaker 6: Honestly, it's it's you know, you kind of just adapt
- 32:11Speaker 6: as you go. I definitely I am a superstitious guy
- 32:15Speaker 6: for sure. Like you said, I try to do the
- 32:17Speaker 6: same thing on most game days, you know. Now, my
- 32:20Speaker 6: my part of my superstition is is you know, dropping
- 32:22Speaker 6: my daughter off for school, on the way to the
- 32:24Speaker 6: rink and on the way home from morning escape picking
- 32:26Speaker 6: her out from school.
- 32:27Speaker 5: So the timing kind of works pretty perfectly.
- 32:30Speaker 6: You know, when you play so many games at the
- 32:32Speaker 6: same time, you kind of just fall into kind of
- 32:34Speaker 6: a rhythm of doing the same thing. And then when
- 32:36Speaker 6: things are going well, it's even easier to keep that,
- 32:39Speaker 6: to keep that going, I guess where that's where the
- 32:41Speaker 6: superstition comes into play. But yeah, I mean they try
- 32:45Speaker 6: to eat the same thing, try to you know, nap
- 32:47Speaker 6: it there around the same time. But things are gonna
- 32:49Speaker 6: come up. And I think that's what what having kids
- 32:51Speaker 6: has taught me is, you know, you know, some days
- 32:54Speaker 6: your kids are gonna be sick. Some days you know
- 32:56Speaker 6: they're they're gonna be you know, they're gonna be throwing
- 32:58Speaker 6: a fit, they're gonna be you know, wanted to play
- 33:00Speaker 6: with you. They're gonna be wanting to do different things
- 33:01Speaker 6: that you don't normally do. So as much as you
- 33:04Speaker 6: can keep the same, you try to. But I definitely
- 33:06Speaker 6: think with having kids has taught me a little bit
- 33:09Speaker 6: of you know, there's going to be curveballs thrown at
- 33:11Speaker 6: yet at any time, and you just got to adjust.
- 33:14Speaker 6: I remember earlier this year, I took my took my
- 33:16Speaker 6: my two daughters. My wife had had a doctor's appointment
- 33:19Speaker 6: or something, and and I had to take my two
- 33:20Speaker 6: daughters to the dentist on a game day. And I
- 33:22Speaker 6: didn't think I would ever do that in my life,
- 33:25Speaker 6: but you know, just left the rink a little early,
- 33:27Speaker 6: picked her out from school, went to the dent went
- 33:29Speaker 6: to dent went to the dentist, got home, you know,
- 33:31Speaker 6: brought my meal home, had it at home this time,
- 33:33Speaker 6: and and ended up having a pretty decent game.
- 33:35Speaker 5: So, uh, you know, sometimes you just got to adjust
- 33:38Speaker 5: in the fly.
- 33:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I think this is a final line hypertine, routines
- 33:41Speaker 1: and superstition. Like I think we're describing as a routine,
- 33:44Speaker 1: superstition is like a rabbits foot in your locker.
- 33:46Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 33:47Speaker 3: Like I have.
- 33:48Speaker 6: That's probably one of our main conversations in our team.
- 33:51Speaker 6: It was what's the routine and what's the superstition? So
- 33:53Speaker 6: that's yeah, you know, some guys I won't name names,
- 33:55Speaker 6: but some guys that come in and have to line
- 33:57Speaker 6: up their name tag that's so perfectly in line with
- 33:59Speaker 6: their stall, we would say that's more of a superstition.
- 34:01Speaker 6: But superstition okay, or like having you know, a couple
- 34:04Speaker 6: of cry baby gumballs before the game is a superstition.
- 34:07Speaker 6: But routines more like warm up and and maybe what
- 34:10Speaker 6: time you get to the rink and things like that,
- 34:12Speaker 6: were probably that actually matter as opposed to you know,
- 34:15Speaker 6: your superstitions.
- 34:15Speaker 5: But you know, we have a lot of fun with that.
- 34:17Speaker 1: Here I wanted to ask us, well, again, like Jad
- 34:20Speaker 1: was saying, as part as your family mean, it's it's amazing,
- 34:22Speaker 1: you know, just the journey you've had and an older
- 34:25Speaker 1: brother and Ryan, who plays for the Ducks. But the
- 34:26Speaker 1: biggest goal in the family, of course, your younger brother
- 34:29Speaker 1: Mats the game winning goal overtime game six last season
- 34:32Speaker 1: to win the.
- 34:33Speaker 2: Calder Cup for the Hershey Bears. Where were you when
- 34:35Speaker 2: he scored it?
- 34:37Speaker 5: Well?
- 34:37Speaker 6: I think a lot of people that talk about that
- 34:39Speaker 6: now forget that that was also at the same time
- 34:41Speaker 6: as the same day as Game seven of the Cup final,
- 34:44Speaker 6: so definitely got a little overshadowed there. And that moment
- 34:48Speaker 6: I remember, we were I was at home, went over
- 34:51Speaker 6: to my brother's house, older brother, Ryan's house, and he
- 34:54Speaker 6: had a bunch of buddies over. A few of my
- 34:56Speaker 6: buddies came over and there's probably ten of us in
- 34:58Speaker 6: the basement watching and we had the you know, the
- 35:00Speaker 6: NHL game on the big screen and mask game on the.
- 35:02Speaker 5: Side, not not a smaller TV, but on this little
- 35:06Speaker 5: side TV.
- 35:07Speaker 6: We had a top on the side, and it just
- 35:10Speaker 6: so happened that the overtime just was just about to start,
- 35:13Speaker 6: and I think the the NHL game was between the
- 35:16Speaker 6: second and third in the intermission, so we someone made
- 35:21Speaker 6: a comment, one of Ryan's, one o Ryan's buddies made
- 35:23Speaker 6: a comment like, you know, Matt's. Matt's had a little
- 35:25Speaker 6: bit of a knack of scoring some big goals. He
- 35:27Speaker 6: scored the the Ohl Cup winning goal for the minor
- 35:30Speaker 6: midget tournament in his in his in his last year
- 35:32Speaker 6: of minor hockey, he scored a few Ohl Playoff overtime
- 35:35Speaker 6: winning goals, and someone made a comment like, you know, Matt, Matt,
- 35:39Speaker 6: Matt's got that knack to scored the big goal.
- 35:41Speaker 5: I'm sure enough.
- 35:43Speaker 6: About two minutes into overtime he gets on the ice
- 35:45Speaker 6: and the puck kind of just scores to him.
- 35:46Speaker 5: And I mean we were going banana lands in the basement.
- 35:49Speaker 5: We were yelling at his kids.
- 35:50Speaker 6: Ryan's kids woke up upstairs, you know, get here, kids crying,
- 35:54Speaker 6: dogs were barking.
- 35:55Speaker 5: It was, it was, it was unbelievable.
- 35:56Speaker 6: So I know he couldn't couldn't be more proud of
- 36:00Speaker 6: him and what he's done. He's he's had a you know,
- 36:02Speaker 6: a tough road in in pro hockey and kind of
- 36:04Speaker 6: just found his way and found a little niche in
- 36:06Speaker 6: Hershey and he loves it there and you know, the
- 36:09Speaker 6: place loves them and they're they have so much fun.
- 36:11Speaker 5: They're such a good team, such.
- 36:12Speaker 6: A well run organization, and you know, for him to
- 36:15Speaker 6: get that goal, I mean it was just like, you know,
- 36:17Speaker 6: you can't even you can't even dream about that stuff.
- 36:19Speaker 6: That's like, you know, next to winning and Stanley Cup,
- 36:21Speaker 6: I mean, there's there's not much, not much higher than
- 36:23Speaker 6: you get in hockey than that, so it's it's pretty cool.
- 36:26Speaker 4: Did that goal help him become or get close to you?
- 36:29Speaker 4: And being the favorite in the family to your parents, because.
- 36:33Speaker 6: Well, I like to say my mom My mom says
- 36:35Speaker 6: that I'm the favorite because we're both middle child, middle children,
- 36:39Speaker 6: and I think, you know, there's there's definitely days where
- 36:42Speaker 6: Ryan's a favorite and we're MAT's the favorite. But you know,
- 36:44Speaker 6: as a middle child and there's someone that just cares
- 36:46Speaker 6: so much about everyone, I like to say that I'm
- 36:48Speaker 6: the favorite, you know, consistently three sixty five.
- 36:51Speaker 4: Just humbly saying I care about everyone. I'm the only
- 36:53Speaker 4: one that cares about everyone.
- 36:55Speaker 3: I love that. That's awesome till we know.
- 36:57Speaker 1: The real turning point in your career is when Jason
- 36:59Speaker 1: Burrs came to Arizona in twenty seventeen.
- 37:01Speaker 2: I need your best JD story.
- 37:04Speaker 5: Man, I got it. I mean I was.
- 37:07Speaker 6: I was pretty young and pretty immature at those times.
- 37:11Speaker 2: He's remained that way, so I'm still there.
- 37:15Speaker 6: I I just go back to that Halloween party. I
- 37:17Speaker 6: know you remember that pretty well.
- 37:20Speaker 5: I think it was at Smithy's house.
- 37:21Speaker 6: I want to say, I think that was my my
- 37:24Speaker 6: first year there.
- 37:26Speaker 5: You had when I remember when Richie dressed up as Chick.
- 37:31Speaker 4: Do you remember that, yes, vaguely, because yes, Richie dressed
- 37:35Speaker 4: up as Chick.
- 37:36Speaker 5: Was it was like his first couple of.
- 37:37Speaker 6: Games in the league, and and he he was like
- 37:40Speaker 6: always had his shirt off.
- 37:41Speaker 5: We always joking, and he was like a big, true ambassador.
- 37:44Speaker 6: And I know that some of the older guys had
- 37:47Speaker 6: had a good time with Chick, you know, just Richardson
- 37:49Speaker 6: had the spray on abs and and had everything going
- 37:52Speaker 6: in as such an unreal outfit. I remember Mike Smith
- 37:54Speaker 6: was in like a golden like dodgeball costume or something,
- 37:57Speaker 6: and I think I was with Fisher and Devorak and
- 38:00Speaker 6: we were just, you know, we were just having a
- 38:02Speaker 6: good time.
- 38:02Speaker 5: We'll just we'll say that. But I remember that Halloween
- 38:04Speaker 5: party being being hilarious.
- 38:07Speaker 3: Well, that Arizona team.
- 38:08Speaker 4: I mean, we may not have won a ton of games,
- 38:11Speaker 4: we had fun doing it, that's for damn sure.
- 38:15Speaker 6: Because it was a good mix of young, younger guys
- 38:18Speaker 6: and older guys. And like I said, I was definitely
- 38:20Speaker 6: definitely immature and in that time and just you know,
- 38:23Speaker 6: kind of playing my first couple of games in the league,
- 38:25Speaker 6: and I couldn't believe that this was what the lifestyle
- 38:27Speaker 6: was like, and you know, going to the rink and
- 38:29Speaker 6: shorts every day and definitely enjoying life.
- 38:32Speaker 5: You know, probably probably a little too much at that time.
- 38:35Speaker 3: Well you had it.
- 38:36Speaker 4: You had an affinity for Burberry at that time. I
- 38:38Speaker 4: don't know if you still got it, but Burberry was
- 38:40Speaker 4: always draped on you and every ass I was like,
- 38:43Speaker 4: this kid is just always in Burberry.
- 38:46Speaker 5: I know, I did love Burberry.
- 38:48Speaker 6: I'd like to think I've grown into a little bit
- 38:50Speaker 6: more of you know, maybe some different brands, but I
- 38:52Speaker 6: definitely still got the old Birdberry going on. I got
- 38:54Speaker 6: the belt still, I got the I got the flannel
- 38:57Speaker 6: still still in the closet somewhere, maybe a couple of
- 38:59Speaker 6: coats now.
- 38:59Speaker 5: But I love that brand.
- 39:02Speaker 4: It's the classic Asian outfit, Asian older man outfits.
- 39:05Speaker 3: Classic.
- 39:09Speaker 2: Uh go ahead, gitty, whathever you got to wrap up?
- 39:12Speaker 4: Keep it rolling right now, buddy. Honestly, it's so fun
- 39:15Speaker 4: to watch you. I you know, I followed your career
- 39:17Speaker 4: very closely, had a soft spot for you after playing
- 39:20Speaker 4: with you, and it's fun to watch you play on
- 39:22Speaker 4: this team being as dominant as you are, as I
- 39:24Speaker 4: knew you could be just the way you move the puck,
- 39:27Speaker 4: so keep it going, and uh, honestly, it's it's just
- 39:30Speaker 4: the beginning of the run for you.
- 39:31Speaker 5: So yeah, hopefully I got I got a question for you.
- 39:34Speaker 5: Are are you?
- 39:35Speaker 6: Are you on the Capitol's Bandwidgen, because you know sometimes
- 39:37Speaker 6: when they leave like jerseys out for people to sign
- 39:40Speaker 6: in the in the in the dressing room, and we
- 39:42Speaker 6: got it. We got a jersey sitting over there right now,
- 39:44Speaker 6: and it's a Demurse Washington Capitol's jersey, number seventeen on
- 39:48Speaker 6: the back that that asked to be teams signed. So
- 39:50Speaker 6: I didn't know if that was going straight to you.
- 39:53Speaker 5: I don't know. I don't know. I don't number seven.
- 39:56Speaker 4: It's my long lost or it's my father trying to
- 39:58Speaker 4: get in there. It's Darryl Demurs trying to get a
- 40:00Speaker 4: jersey I had. I had the you know, I was
- 40:04Speaker 4: so hard on I mean, I wasn't hard on him,
- 40:07Speaker 4: but on Peer Luke Dubois and I had a peer
- 40:10Speaker 4: Luke glue Bois shirt made because I love that shirt.
- 40:13Speaker 3: Isn't that great?
- 40:14Speaker 4: I'll send it to you because I have it here
- 40:16Speaker 4: at the at the at the house and I'll send
- 40:18Speaker 4: me your address and I'll mail it to you. But
- 40:20Speaker 4: because we're all around the network now calling him Pierre
- 40:22Speaker 4: Luke glue Bought. I mean, we love this team and
- 40:25Speaker 4: we just love all the pieces that have been put
- 40:27Speaker 4: together there just it's it's you guys have a little
- 40:29Speaker 4: bit of everything.
- 40:30Speaker 3: So it's fun.
- 40:30Speaker 4: And I love that you guys love Doham because he's
- 40:33Speaker 4: just an animal. I skated with him a little bit

- 40:39Speaker 6: Yeah, he's he's he's unbelievable. I mean, the guy he
- 40:42Speaker 6: doesn't stop. Like it's like we just got here. It's
- 40:44Speaker 6: nine o'clock in the morning, and we get here and
- 40:46Speaker 6: I can hear him like in the dressing room, just
- 40:47Speaker 6: like the loudest guy, like smiling, laughing already, like joking
- 40:50Speaker 6: with guys.
- 40:50Speaker 5: Like he doesn't shut it off. And you need guys

- 41:37Speaker 1: Movie, JD that you specifically love when you think of
- 41:40Speaker 1: Saint Patrick's Day, um Miller's Crossing, Great Cone Brothers movie, Gangsters.
- 41:44Speaker 4: I mean Gangs of New York. It's it's hard to
- 41:46Speaker 4: beat nice. Yeah, it's really it comes to them. Irish
- 41:51Speaker 4: Irish wish By with Lindsay Lohan is one.
- 41:54Speaker 3: I'm not familiar with that one. I'm just kidding the
- 41:56Speaker 3: band She's a finish here in Yeah, I thought it
- 41:58Speaker 3: was a.
- 41:59Speaker 2: Really funny movie calling Farrell Brendan Gleeson great.
- 42:01Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean Brendan Gleeson is probably in a lot
- 42:03Speaker 4: of these because he does play a great little Irish character, Iritish.
- 42:09Speaker 4: Would you consider The Depadded Irish?
- 42:11Speaker 2: Yeah, The Depatt, It's definitely an Irish movie.
- 42:13Speaker 4: Jack Dick Patt accident. Yeah, you gotta love Jack Nicholson.
- 42:18Speaker 4: Probably one of the most unhinged performances I think in
- 42:22Speaker 4: that he was so good.
- 42:23Speaker 1: Yeah, so I love The Departed, but yeah, I got
- 42:27Speaker 1: this wreathing.
- 42:29Speaker 2: Rat.
- 42:30Speaker 1: My buddy Ryan Ricillo, who spent a lot of time
- 42:32Speaker 1: in Boston, he said to me once The depart is
- 42:33Speaker 1: a great, bad movie, Like, what does that mean?
- 42:35Speaker 3: He goes.
- 42:35Speaker 2: I don't think it's great.
- 42:36Speaker 1: What do you mean he goes because Nicholson's two over
- 42:38Speaker 1: the top, he's overacting too much and the accents are bad.
- 42:41Speaker 1: And I said, no, No, it's a great movie. It's got
- 42:43Speaker 1: outsized performances. Yes, it's larger than life, it's flamboyant, and
- 42:46Speaker 1: yes it's not scors He's best movie.
- 42:47Speaker 2: You should have won ten Oscars before that. But still
- 42:50Speaker 2: a great movie.
- 42:50Speaker 1: I mean, Damon DiCaprio, the whole cast, you're a farmiga
- 42:53Speaker 1: speaking of Saint Patrick's did though, I love what you
- 42:55Speaker 1: did on air? Brian Boyle, who I mean if I
- 42:56Speaker 1: said to somebody Irish Catholic. I'm like, I'm thinking of Boiler,
- 42:59Speaker 1: who's got just just Irish as a guest like that.
- 43:01Speaker 2: I love that, No, but I love Boilers.
- 43:03Speaker 1: Look, but I look what you did, because you do
- 43:04Speaker 1: not have children yet, you wore a shirt which my
- 43:07Speaker 1: kids would appreciate.
- 43:08Speaker 2: And that was Patrick of SpongeBob Fame.
- 43:10Speaker 3: I appreciate it.
- 43:10Speaker 2: Saint Patrick T. Patrick, the voice of I.
- 43:14Speaker 4: Looked like somebody that has zero Irish heritage at all.
- 43:18Speaker 4: And Boiler looked like he was part of the IRA.
- 43:21Speaker 1: Yeah, boy, Boiler looked at from The Crying Game, one
- 43:23Speaker 1: of my favorite movies.
- 43:24Speaker 3: He looked like he was Iron the Eye.
- 43:26Speaker 4: He was either in the IRA or he was on
- 43:28Speaker 4: a skyscraper in New York City building and was without
- 43:32Speaker 4: any harness with the baggiest pants of all time.
- 43:35Speaker 1: Yeah he had one of the other His pants were
- 43:37Speaker 1: so baggy they called him trousers.
- 43:39Speaker 2: Like remember that that.
- 43:42Speaker 4: It was like he purposely wore it, and I had
- 43:45Speaker 4: no idea that those pants were a thing. And he's like,
- 43:47Speaker 4: I'm like, how comfortably are He's like, I could not
- 43:49Speaker 4: be more comfortable sitting down right now. He always wears
- 43:52Speaker 4: like a tight pant. But I said, like, there's a movie.
- 43:55Speaker 4: There's an Irish movie. I have to I have to
- 43:57Speaker 4: find that. It was about like an Irish gangster part
- 44:01Speaker 4: of the IRA and he was like going up against
- 44:03Speaker 4: the mob and stuff that I can't remember what it is,
- 44:05Speaker 4: but I'll figure it out.
- 44:06Speaker 1: In GI have any memories of playing on Saint Patricks Day.
- 44:08Speaker 1: I thought it was pretty cool. By the way, being
- 44:10Speaker 1: at the Leafs game, it ain't easy being green. I
- 44:12Speaker 1: had a green suit. Blake Bowld and Andy Patrillo All
- 44:15Speaker 1: Force is the only guy I couldn't get in the spirit.
- 44:16Speaker 1: There's a slight hint of green in my tig. That's
- 44:18Speaker 1: not Hickey wore green suit. Jody Shelley dark green suit.
- 44:22Speaker 2: The Saint Pat's the jerseys.
- 44:23Speaker 1: The green was phenomenal. How about you playing on Saint
- 44:25Speaker 1: Patrick's Day? People just getting hammered on guinness after the game.
- 44:28Speaker 4: Well, I always tried to play drunk on Saint Patrick's
- 44:31Speaker 4: Day in the NHL, and I did.
- 44:33Speaker 1: That another two on one. What the hell is to
- 44:35Speaker 1: hers doing?
- 44:36Speaker 2: Joining the rush again?
- 44:37Speaker 4: He's all over the place. We don't know what he's doing.
- 44:42Speaker 4: This is a bold strategy by him. This is a
- 44:45Speaker 4: new form of playing on his ankles. Uh yeah, and
- 44:48Speaker 4: I you know, I always I always thought I did
- 44:51Speaker 4: that pretty successfully playing drunk on Saint Patty's Day.
- 44:54Speaker 3: No, I can't.
- 44:55Speaker 4: I mean other than the jerseys you wear him and
- 44:57Speaker 4: warm up's. Like I always liked those cool commemorative jerseys,
- 45:01Speaker 4: like they have the military night and all that. I
- 45:02Speaker 4: think they're so I think there's so cool. They're always
- 45:05Speaker 4: a cool design. And yeah, you know you always laugh
- 45:08Speaker 4: at like what's your name on the back because they'll
- 45:10Speaker 4: put like O demurz or oh goldgask here.
- 45:13Speaker 3: It's great. Yeah, yeah, so they kind of make you again,
- 45:16Speaker 3: are wee Irish?
- 45:17Speaker 2: Lass?
- 45:19Speaker 3: I think that's awesome.
- 45:20Speaker 2: I love the fact he'll get it the spirit of
- 45:21Speaker 2: being Irish. What are the thought here?
- 45:24Speaker 3: That way of drinking. Yeah, that's what it is.
- 45:26Speaker 2: It's bass, a big booze and some dirty limericks along
- 45:28Speaker 2: the way.
- 45:28Speaker 1: Yeah, gotta give love to people in the media and
- 45:30Speaker 1: long tim Capital's played by play man Joe Benanati, who's
- 45:33Speaker 1: gonna be on duty for Alexander of Vashkin's record breaking goals.
- 45:36Speaker 1: So Ben Andanti was going to get snubbed if the
- 45:38Speaker 1: goal came during a national sports broadcast, but the NHL
- 45:41Speaker 1: and Monumental Sports Network, how about that for a name.
- 45:43Speaker 2: They've come to an agreement aligned.
- 45:45Speaker 1: The Capital's TV home to produce their own broadcast the
- 45:48Speaker 1: capitals four remaining national telecasts, So to be clear, Kenny
- 45:52Speaker 1: Albert or my buddy John Forsen with Turner, or John
- 45:55Speaker 1: McDonough with the ESPN or Bob was Shoes and they'll
- 45:57Speaker 1: be calling the game. But Joe will get to call
- 45:59Speaker 1: the game. He'll be produced in house there for Washington.
- 46:01Speaker 1: It's a nice one went there for a guy who
- 46:02Speaker 1: really deserves it. What's some the great moments ever in
- 46:04Speaker 1: hockey history.
- 46:05Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it should be him. I think it
- 46:09Speaker 4: should be him nationally as well. No disrespect to any
- 46:12Speaker 4: of the other commentators, Nash is what you're.
- 46:14Speaker 2: Just gonna tell Kenny Albert take a knee. You can't
- 46:16Speaker 2: do that to Kenny.
- 46:16Speaker 3: Listen.
- 46:18Speaker 4: I fans of every single one of them. I have
- 46:21Speaker 4: their phone numbers, but I would tell them. I think
- 46:23Speaker 4: when it comes to a record, a personal record, and
- 46:26Speaker 4: especially a guy likes that's been there forever, Uh, it
- 46:31Speaker 4: has to go to the guy that called his first
- 46:32Speaker 4: game there, and we'll call probably his last game in
- 46:35Speaker 4: all of his big moments, why not have it be him.
- 46:38Speaker 4: That's the voice, that's that's the highlight, that's gonna He's
- 46:42Speaker 4: gonna show his kids, kids and Ovechkin that is And
- 46:46Speaker 4: you know, any guy that played on that team is
- 46:48Speaker 4: going to say, that's the announcer that was with us
- 46:51Speaker 4: all the you know, throughout the whole season. Because the
- 46:54Speaker 4: thing that people don't realize and I didn't realize even
- 46:57Speaker 4: when I played, and now being on the media side
- 47:00Speaker 4: of things and traveling with the San Jose Sharks and
- 47:02Speaker 4: working with Dan Ruzenowski, Randy Hahn, Drumenda and just amazing
- 47:07Speaker 4: commentators and analysts. They are part of the team and
- 47:11Speaker 4: they're as big a fan of the team as any
- 47:13Speaker 4: other person that's paying for tickets. They support the team,
- 47:17Speaker 4: they support the players, they hate when.
- 47:19Speaker 3: Guys get traded.
- 47:20Speaker 4: They celebrate the wins, they celebrate the losses and not
- 47:23Speaker 4: celebrate the losses. They more than the losses, and they
- 47:26Speaker 4: just do it in a way that I think those
- 47:28Speaker 4: are the little things that they deserve and they should
- 47:30Speaker 4: get because they're so passionate and nothing against the national guys,
- 47:35Speaker 4: you know, Sean mcdont. They're all great FORESLN, Boba Schuz
- 47:38Speaker 4: and they're awesome, awesome Kenny Alberts, they're amazing announcers. And
- 47:41Speaker 4: yes it's you know, ESPN, TNT, all those things, Turner Sports.
- 47:44Speaker 4: They're gonna get their crack at it.
- 47:46Speaker 3: But it should be his call.
- 47:48Speaker 4: That's the one that that kind of lives on and
- 47:50Speaker 4: stands the test of time because he's the one that's
- 47:52Speaker 4: been with them for so long throughout his whole career.
- 47:55Speaker 1: So well, it'll be a happy metiing because at least
- 47:57Speaker 1: he'll be calling the game for the Capitals, producing the game,
- 47:59Speaker 1: and of course will have the national call as well, so.
- 48:01Speaker 2: People will be able to listen to both calls.
- 48:03Speaker 1: Whatever a vention doesn't do you get the As we
- 48:04Speaker 1: close up shop, how about little jdpov?
- 48:07Speaker 2: What do you got?
- 48:08Speaker 3: Yes?
- 48:09Speaker 4: POV three Because in honor of the GM meetings, they
- 48:13Speaker 4: talked about three on three extending the time to ten minutes,
- 48:16Speaker 4: and there was talk that Beban doesn't like that for injuries.
- 48:19Speaker 4: But my three on three change, I think it needs
- 48:23Speaker 4: to be adjusted a little bit. Listen, I'm a fan
- 48:25Speaker 4: of it. It's fun. You see best on best three
- 48:28Speaker 4: on three, the most skilled guys going at it. But
- 48:31Speaker 4: I do not like when the guys bring it out
- 48:34Speaker 4: of the blue line and they just keep reloading and reloading,
- 48:37Speaker 4: like the Soviet Union back in the day, the Iron Curtain.
- 48:41Speaker 4: I just don't like that. I think there needs to
- 48:43Speaker 4: be a change to that to make it a little
- 48:45Speaker 4: bit more faster paced. And I think my change and
- 48:47Speaker 4: my thought for it would create more offense. People might think, no,
- 48:51Speaker 4: it won't, Yes it will. Once you cross the blue line,
- 48:53Speaker 4: the offensive blue line, and you enter into the zone,
- 48:56Speaker 4: you are not allowed to bring the puck out of
- 48:58Speaker 4: the zone. You cannot wind it back, you cannot bring
- 49:01Speaker 4: it out, you cannot pass the puck out. You have
- 49:03Speaker 4: to stay inside the offensive blue line and attempt to score.
- 49:06Speaker 4: Because what that's gonna do is it's gonna make it
- 49:08Speaker 4: three on three, close ice blue line in and what's
- 49:12Speaker 4: gonna happen is guys can't, you know, sit back and
- 49:15Speaker 4: keep winding back so when there are turnovers, it'll be
- 49:17Speaker 4: quick to offense. It'll be two on one after two
- 49:19Speaker 4: on one, and it'll probably quicken up the pace of
- 49:22Speaker 4: three on three and make it, I think a little
- 49:24Speaker 4: bit even more exciting than it already is. So that's
- 49:27Speaker 4: my pov. Take it, digest it. If you don't like it,
- 49:30Speaker 4: suck it.
- 49:31Speaker 1: She call the play dead. If they leave the zone,
- 49:33Speaker 1: that's take a reverse off side. Just want to be clarified,
- 49:35Speaker 1: that's what you're looking for.
- 49:36Speaker 4: The ges, Yes, you lose possession or now you don't
- 49:40Speaker 4: lose possession.
- 49:40Speaker 2: It seems a little complicated.
- 49:43Speaker 4: What you come into the blue line and then you
- 49:45Speaker 4: can't pull it back out of the blue line.
- 49:47Speaker 3: I just think that's complicated.
- 49:49Speaker 2: I'm just telling you.
- 49:49Speaker 1: I think guys would be like, no, I want to
- 49:51Speaker 1: go like that, because they're so conditioned as you say
- 49:52Speaker 1: to be like, no, I want to kind of reset.
- 49:54Speaker 1: I can't reset now I'm stuck. I'm in this area.
- 49:56Speaker 3: Sorry, you lose it.
- 49:58Speaker 2: I'm contained.
- 49:59Speaker 4: It's a penalty. If you do that, it's a penalty.
- 50:01Speaker 4: So three you're gonna call it penalty.
- 50:03Speaker 1: The guy goes back, Yeah, wow, course you're doing.
- 50:09Speaker 2: Just shorten that ice so much for a two hundred.
- 50:11Speaker 4: Fin nine right three on three, make it quick going zone.
- 50:15Speaker 4: Come on, not the whirling dervishes here.
- 50:18Speaker 1: Uh please let us know what you think of this
- 50:20Speaker 1: potential change here on Jason Ders's social media and we're
