- 1:33Speaker 1: will not go away. By the way, I've been trying
- 1:35Speaker 1: to kill this fly for like two days. O Yo, corrupt, corrupt,
- 1:39Speaker 1: corrupt man, your a legend. Welcome, thank you, thank you.
- 1:43Speaker 1: You know, I gotta give you some flowers because there's
- 1:46Speaker 1: one album of yours that I always just rave that
- 1:50Speaker 1: is like one of the most slept on albums of
- 1:51Speaker 1: all times. Streets is a Mother Oh Wow is one
- 1:55Speaker 1: of my favorite albums ever overseen by Daz Dylan Drew
- 2:00Speaker 1: I called shots with you and Roscoe. That's an organized
- 2:03Speaker 1: noise man, You and Roscoe back and forth. You know, Yeah,
- 2:11Speaker 1: that's that, Uh, Ray, Rico and Pat when the Beat
- 2:16Speaker 1: Organized Noise. We went to Atlanta for that and Uh
- 2:21Speaker 1: I was over there at the dungeon. Rico, Ray came
- 2:25Speaker 1: through and then we just laced it up Sleepy Brown
- 2:28Speaker 1: Pat how how's how's your brother doing? Doing real good?
- 2:33Speaker 1: You know he just had his second baby, zay Alani.
- 2:37Speaker 1: I call it Kalani. You got it. You gotta put
- 2:41Speaker 1: that corrupt twist on that. But you know, kids help
- 2:44Speaker 1: you to grow up and become the man you're going
- 2:46Speaker 1: to be. And uh, that's what happened with David. You know,
- 2:50Speaker 1: Scodie's on his grown man now working on this music.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Still got a new group, Luxury Click. So I remember
- 2:56Speaker 1: when I first heard I called shots and I found
- 2:58Speaker 1: out that that was your brother. I was like, oh
- 3:00Speaker 1: my god, psychosomatic automatics, man, And I was shocked. I
- 3:06Speaker 1: was like this, I said, corrupt brother might be harder
- 3:08Speaker 1: than corrupt. Motherfucking right, I was. You know what they say, man,
- 3:11Speaker 1: the next generation they greater than the generation before them.
- 3:16Speaker 1: You know, that's when they're doing well. You know, otherwise
- 3:19Speaker 1: they will either be lower and lucky to be the same.
- 3:23Speaker 1: But when they really on their game right, they surpassed.
- 3:27Speaker 1: And that's what Scodie has done throughout the years. And
- 3:31Speaker 1: I remember when I first heard him rap twelve years old,
- 3:34Speaker 1: thirteen and wanted to get into cipher and I told him, man,
- 3:38Speaker 1: I kicked back, man, hold on because you know, I
- 3:41Speaker 1: don't want him to get embarrassed. And he rapped for
- 3:45Speaker 1: like thirty minutes to forty minutes. I said, oh my god,
- 3:49Speaker 1: the fruit does not fall far from the tree. In
- 3:51Speaker 1: the tree, I said, Wow, I said this boy ready, yeah,
- 3:56Speaker 1: oh yeah, fout out to that. It's a California album.
- 3:59Speaker 1: You're it's crazy, man, because you know, my favorite uh
- 4:06Speaker 1: you know, I always say that the best West Coast album,
- 4:09Speaker 1: probably my second or third favorite album ever is Doggy Style. Yes, sir,
- 4:13Speaker 1: and that's the album that really introduced you to the masses. Yes,
- 4:17Speaker 1: it did introduced all of us, me, Dad, Nate, dog
- 4:23Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. Even even g Dove got
- 4:26Speaker 1: his chance to really shine. Warren g Ain't no fun.
- 4:29Speaker 1: He really shined on there, you know what I'm saying,
- 4:32Speaker 1: and came a mc be came a rapper. Well, I
- 4:36Speaker 1: feel like you have like quite possibly like the best
- 4:41Speaker 1: verse on thet on Doggy Style, you know, at least
- 4:43Speaker 1: like a top three verse on Doggy Style. Wow. Well,
- 4:47Speaker 1: thank you? Yeah, I love this guy. No, I mean,
- 4:49Speaker 1: I mean, listen, man, I'm fucking I love I love
- 4:51Speaker 1: thank you know. I'm a huge you know, dog pound Fanatic,
- 4:56Speaker 1: bro and and Doggie Style was an album that really
- 4:58Speaker 1: changed my life. But like, coming from your position as
- 5:03Speaker 1: an unknown artist at the time, Snoop's the hottest shit moving.
- 5:07Speaker 1: He's coming off the success of the Chronic, there's the
- 5:10Speaker 1: buzz of his murder trial, and there's just so much
- 5:13Speaker 1: energy behind that album. Give me like your mind state
- 5:17Speaker 1: when it came to getting in the studio and laying
- 5:19Speaker 1: your vocals for that album and just being around that
- 5:23Speaker 1: environment at the time. You know, at that time, we
- 5:29Speaker 1: all had something to prove, not just to the world
- 5:33Speaker 1: but to ourselves. So everybody was in a show and
- 5:37Speaker 1: improved mindset Musically. For the producers, you know, Doctor Dre
- 5:43Speaker 1: himself Dazz stepping his game up, produced records like for
- 5:48Speaker 1: All my Niggas and My Bitches and was one of
- 5:51Speaker 1: the keys to Ain't No Fun, you know what I'm saying.
- 5:55Speaker 1: And you know, being around Doctor Dre makes you step
- 5:59Speaker 1: your game. You got to show up, a shut and
- 6:01Speaker 1: show out or get out. That was a death row mentality.
- 6:05Speaker 1: So everybody was trying to prove themselves. They was trying
- 6:08Speaker 1: to uh get to that level, you know what I'm
- 6:12Speaker 1: saying that they was all trying to reach. Each one
- 6:15Speaker 1: of us had a goal we was trying to set
- 6:18Speaker 1: for ourselves that we set for ourselves. You know, Rage
- 6:22Speaker 1: rb RBX myself, Dazz Warren g production wise because he
- 6:27Speaker 1: was all over the chronic with ideas. So it was Daz.
- 6:32Speaker 1: That is a lot of the voices you hear on
- 6:33Speaker 1: the chronic so on, Well, that's probably the most under
- 6:36Speaker 1: like top two or three underrated producer of all time
- 6:38Speaker 1: because you know, Dads don't really splurge his He says low,
- 6:43Speaker 1: humble about his fly. It's not going away. Hey, he
- 6:47Speaker 1: loves us. What can I say? Hey, when you the ship,
- 6:49Speaker 1: you the ship flies love to be ship. I'm just
- 6:53Speaker 1: saying though, you know what I'm saying. But you know
- 6:56Speaker 1: it was It was great for us to learning experience.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Doug Style used all of our lives, you know. The
- 7:02Speaker 1: chronic changed our lives and Doggy Style created who we
- 7:07Speaker 1: were when Doggy Style was being recorded. Were you and
- 7:10Speaker 1: Dads already signed to death Row as dog Pound or
- 7:13Speaker 1: was that something that happened after the chronic. We wasn't signed.
- 7:16Speaker 1: The chronic was crazy because Sugar and Doctor Dre had
- 7:20Speaker 1: a crazy plan. They only had Rage and Snoopy sign
- 7:26Speaker 1: and all the artists on there, none of them was signed.
- 7:28Speaker 1: It was like, if you make it, the people like you,
- 7:32Speaker 1: then we might give you a deal. We're going to
- 7:34Speaker 1: give you a deal. And it was like, wow, we
- 7:36Speaker 1: still got to show ourselves because we were on this album.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Anybody could just leave. And you know, so by the
- 7:43Speaker 1: time Doggy Style came out, you guys already locked down.
- 7:45Speaker 1: We were signed. After the when the Chronic, once it
- 7:48Speaker 1: cracked and reviews came back on all of us, death
- 7:51Speaker 1: Row was like, Okay, everybody made it. What was the
- 7:56Speaker 1: was the difference between the creation of the Chronic and
- 7:59Speaker 1: being around that and just the creation of Doggy Style?
- 8:03Speaker 1: What was the energy difference? In your opinion being somebody
- 8:05Speaker 1: who was there for both, Like the Chronic, you really
- 8:10Speaker 1: didn't know, uh where to go. You know, Doctor Drebral
- 8:16Speaker 1: Critique records for us. You know, he always told me
- 8:20Speaker 1: during the Chronic, I got a record strictly for you corrupt.
- 8:22Speaker 1: I was like, wow, I made it for his album,
- 8:27Speaker 1: strictly for me. I was like, so, you know, I
- 8:31Speaker 1: was excited and just watching them as they're creating the
- 8:34Speaker 1: album itself. In general, one of the first records I
- 8:36Speaker 1: heard was a nigga with a motherfucking gun and g thing,
- 8:42Speaker 1: and so it was like bam, those was the two
- 8:44Speaker 1: and he was just creating as he went. Then one
- 8:46Speaker 1: day he came to me and said, here, I got
- 8:48Speaker 1: this for you, Corrup, You're gonna set this off. I
- 8:50Speaker 1: was like, damn, let me hear it. And you heard
- 8:52Speaker 1: was what what? What? When? And I said, oh my
- 9:00Speaker 1: He smiled at me, yeah, and that shit came on
- 9:04Speaker 1: and I was just oh my god, because this is
- 9:06Speaker 1: me right, and that's why I started that off. Doctor
- 9:09Speaker 1: dra Ham picked that for me. He made it for me.
- 9:14Speaker 1: RBX and Rage, you know what I mean, stranded on
- 9:17Speaker 1: death Row and Snoop was the superstar, so you know
- 9:22Speaker 1: he already had it planned. You know how he wanted
- 9:25Speaker 1: it to be. Who he wanted to start it off. Corrupt,
- 9:27Speaker 1: You're gonna start this off. This is After that, it
- 9:30Speaker 1: was lyrical, gang bang and then Bitches Ain't Shit was
- 9:33Speaker 1: the last record we made, which is basically he showed
- 9:36Speaker 1: us that you could take one beat, take all the
- 9:38Speaker 1: music off, keep two pieces of it, the drums, the baseline,
- 9:42Speaker 1: maybe one other piece, and make a whole new record.
- 9:44Speaker 1: They won't even know that right, they're the same. So
- 9:48Speaker 1: he stripped down g thing remix and that's bitches ain't shit.
- 9:53Speaker 1: He took everything off except for the we the key thing,
- 9:57Speaker 1: and then the boom boom boom and the RUMs and
- 10:01Speaker 1: made bitches ain't ship. And he also taught me something
- 10:04Speaker 1: then too, because my verse I started off, bitches ain't ship,
- 10:08Speaker 1: but hos and tricks lick doing these nuts and sucked
- 10:11Speaker 1: that I was rapping it though dog is all melody.
- 10:14Speaker 1: He taught me melody. And then Snoop Doc Drear heard
- 10:18Speaker 1: me saying it, and he was like, hold o, Crup
- 10:20Speaker 1: say that again, all right, go lay that. That's the hook,
- 10:23Speaker 1: just that part. Snoop add that whoop wop to it.
- 10:26Speaker 1: And so you know, Snoop came to me and say, Crup,
- 10:28Speaker 1: say it like this. Don't say bitches ain't ship but
- 10:31Speaker 1: hos and tricks don't do it like that. Do it
- 10:33Speaker 1: like this, bitches ain't ship, but hos and tricks lick
- 10:37Speaker 1: doing these nuts. Add that melody to a corrupt So
- 10:39Speaker 1: I did it like that and he changed a couple
- 10:40Speaker 1: of words. I had boom and that was the that's
- 10:43Speaker 1: the hook. Me and Snoop and I was like, wow,
- 10:46Speaker 1: so now I got this record here, Well I'm having fun.
- 10:49Speaker 1: I was a battle rapper, so strand on death Row
- 10:52Speaker 1: and lyrical gang bag. This was new. I'm like, oh, okay,
- 10:57Speaker 1: you adding to melody into your all of that a
- 11:00Speaker 1: fancy and ship and I'm like okay, boom and I
- 11:03Speaker 1: did it and it was like wow, you know what,
- 11:06Speaker 1: I'm gonna be a star. Then when it came to
- 11:09Speaker 1: Doggy Style, our confidence was at the moon. We already
- 11:12Speaker 1: knew where we were going. We already knew what doctor
- 11:15Speaker 1: Dre expected, what makes sug smile and those the key
- 11:19Speaker 1: make sure smile and you good money satisfied doctor Dre
- 11:24Speaker 1: and you gold. And that was the key to doll
- 11:27Speaker 1: because he knew how to do it like this, oh
- 11:29Speaker 1: add this to it, because he was the he was
- 11:31Speaker 1: the key, so first person to make smile a snoop
- 11:35Speaker 1: so you know, whoop wop am, And that's you know,
- 11:38Speaker 1: Doggie style. We was all confident, we knew where to go.
- 11:42Speaker 1: And that's why you could tell the difference in that.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Then the chronic on that one we was critiqued and
- 11:48Speaker 1: sign and we had signed. You had some cheese, yeah
- 11:51Speaker 1: you know, yeah, you guys got a little bit of
- 11:54Speaker 1: fame from the Chronic and then me and Dad created
- 11:57Speaker 1: the Dog Pound and dog the grou Yeah, who's both solo? Yeah?
- 12:03Speaker 1: I mean, you know, your guys' group debut is another
- 12:08Speaker 1: West Coast classic. It's a hip hop classic. It's an
- 12:10Speaker 1: album that I feel like doesn't get enough flowers when
- 12:13Speaker 1: we're talking about classic albums. But you know that album. Yeah,
- 12:19Speaker 1: you know, I feel like after Doggy Style, Dog Food,
- 12:24Speaker 1: dog Father, and then I feel like, you know, there was,
- 12:30Speaker 1: at least from like a fans perspective, there was It
- 12:32Speaker 1: felt like like there was like some weird energy between
- 12:34Speaker 1: Snoop and death Row. The Tupac shit happened. But you you,
- 12:40Speaker 1: you know, obviously you and Daz together forever, but there
- 12:44Speaker 1: was that point in time where there was that separation
- 12:48Speaker 1: where you had chose to stay with Sug. There was
- 12:51Speaker 1: the double XL cover with you left eye was a
- 12:55Speaker 1: crooked eye and Sug and there was there was like
- 12:59Speaker 1: some animal between you and dads. Right, give me your
- 13:04Speaker 1: thought process why you stuck with Shug during that time
- 13:07Speaker 1: and just kind of where your head was at. I
- 13:09Speaker 1: was the first from the Dog Pound to leave death Ro.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Remember you're talking about because you had Andra, you left,
- 13:15Speaker 1: you did corruption, you launched your label. Doctor Dre was
- 13:17Speaker 1: first to leave, and from the d PG it was you.
- 13:20Speaker 1: I was left. I left first, snooping dazz and on
- 13:22Speaker 1: him was still on death roaw. So you left first,
- 13:24Speaker 1: and I remember, yeah, because you had we can freaking
- 13:26Speaker 1: in the double disc and and then but you came
- 13:29Speaker 1: back from ning my company Andra and did all of
- 13:31Speaker 1: that and had that spin and then uh should came home.
- 13:36Speaker 1: We had a good chop up, and that was really
- 13:38Speaker 1: over wrapping. I wanted to be an executive. I wanted
- 13:41Speaker 1: to oversee a company. That's what Andra, That's what I
- 13:44Speaker 1: did with and I was president of that company. Joe,
- 13:47Speaker 1: Maroon and Tyrone gave me the opportunity to actually be
- 13:50Speaker 1: a part of running a company and be the artist.
- 13:54Speaker 1: And I mean, shit, I about all. I think that
- 13:56Speaker 1: was three albums that you dropped on and I bought
- 13:58Speaker 1: all three of them, bitches with my harder money. Yeah,
- 14:01Speaker 1: Joe and Todd Romes want to open up that door
- 14:03Speaker 1: and gave me that lane to experience it. And I like,
- 14:06Speaker 1: at that point in time, I love that more than
- 14:10Speaker 1: I love being a artist. So when Shuld came to
- 14:13Speaker 1: me about being the president of death Row. You know,
- 14:18Speaker 1: I thought that, you know what, I'm gonna take this opportunity.
- 14:21Speaker 1: I don't even feel like rapping. I don't want to rap.
- 14:23Speaker 1: I wanted more or less critique. Artists build them, and
- 14:27Speaker 1: I want a definite check rather than because I don't
- 14:30Speaker 1: feel you know, I had no Well, your music is
- 14:32Speaker 1: a performance based income. Like you got to put music out,
- 14:35Speaker 1: the music has to sell. Yeah, probably we get royalties,
- 14:39Speaker 1: we get our publishing, but hip hop is fun. Once
- 14:44Speaker 1: the fund's gone, what you're doing, you're done, yeah, right,
- 14:46Speaker 1: because it ain't about the money, you know. So Suld
- 14:49Speaker 1: offered you something at the time that spoke more to
- 14:52Speaker 1: where you were at mentally at that time. Yeah, and
- 14:55Speaker 1: I said, you know what, I can do this because
- 14:58Speaker 1: my homeboys, you know, it was gonna ride with me regardless,
- 15:03Speaker 1: and in the beginning that's what it was. But it
- 15:06Speaker 1: you know, as far as a friendship, you know, it
- 15:09Speaker 1: wasn't such a great decision because it, you know, doing
- 15:14Speaker 1: that compromised my friendship with that my family, Dazz and Snoop,
- 15:20Speaker 1: super Fly and Nate Dog all dpgs. At the time,
- 15:24Speaker 1: I think Dad was doing this thing was so so deaf. Right,
- 15:26Speaker 1: it was around that time, so so deaf. It was
- 15:30Speaker 1: after that experience, because that's when me and Dads got
- 15:34Speaker 1: back together. He was excuse me, he was doing so
- 15:38Speaker 1: actually no. So so death was during the time of
- 15:41Speaker 1: entra mm hmmm, because Dads got off of there, you know,
- 15:47Speaker 1: and when del Mark got off of there, he locked
- 15:50Speaker 1: up with j B. I think dog was finishing with
- 15:54Speaker 1: no limit, and I went to Death Road to get
- 15:59Speaker 1: Daz off of death Row and so bring him back home.
- 16:03Speaker 1: So I did do that, and then when he got off,
- 16:07Speaker 1: I went back home. And that's when you accepted the
- 16:10Speaker 1: position to be the president of Death Row, right, And
- 16:13Speaker 1: you know that's crazy, that's ironic. How long did that?
- 16:16Speaker 1: How long did were you technically the president of the label?
- 16:20Speaker 1: About two years? Yeah? Two years? And then remember what
- 16:25Speaker 1: years those were? Well, two thousand and fives when I
- 16:28Speaker 1: got back with the homies and we made Cali is active,
- 16:33Speaker 1: which is a yeah, I mean, a moment, but so
- 16:36Speaker 1: it was probably what two It was basically two thousand
- 16:39Speaker 1: and four and two thousand and three, okay, okay, And
- 16:42Speaker 1: so that went into two thousand and two and then
- 16:46Speaker 1: two thousand and three and two thousand and four. Yeah,
- 16:49Speaker 1: because okay, so so you got with death Row after
- 16:53Speaker 1: they put out that Chronic two thousand album, right, they
- 16:56Speaker 1: put out that album to come back with Dre was doing. Yeah,
- 17:01Speaker 1: because Streets is a Mother and Doctor Dre's Chronic was
- 17:05Speaker 1: in two thousand one, same day. Oh, that was the
- 17:08Speaker 1: same day. So that was two thousand. That was two thousand, right, right, yeah, thousand,
- 17:14Speaker 1: that was two thousand. I think two thousand and one
- 17:15Speaker 1: came out in two thousand nine with Streets as a Mother,
- 17:18Speaker 1: So that was ninety nine. That's crazy, I'm fucking old man.
- 17:22Speaker 1: That was ninety nine. I think, yep, ninety nine, nineteen
- 17:25Speaker 1: ninety nine. Streets is the Mother dropping. The Chronic dropped
- 17:27Speaker 1: on the same day. So when you come in and
- 17:29Speaker 1: you're running death Row as the President left, Eyes on
- 17:32Speaker 1: the label, Crooked Eyes on the label, Crooked Ey had
- 17:36Speaker 1: probably been there for a while at that point. Well,
- 17:39Speaker 1: he was there with us, what was you know what
- 17:41Speaker 1: I'm saying. So he was there during the nineties. I
- 17:44Speaker 1: mean he was there during like ninety four. Wow, Crooked
- 17:48Speaker 1: Eyes started coming around, Big C Style Boy, him and
- 17:50Speaker 1: Technique to the table. I remember Technique and they created
- 17:53Speaker 1: the LBC Crew and Crooked Eyes alien one of the
- 17:59Speaker 1: greatest you know what I'm saying, my LBC crew. Crooked
- 18:03Speaker 1: Eye was a separate beast. And you can hear Crooked
- 18:05Speaker 1: Eye all on every record I made from Streets is
- 18:10Speaker 1: a Mother and Spacebooky. Crooked Eye is on both of
- 18:13Speaker 1: those records, you know what I mean. And he was
- 18:19Speaker 1: he wasn't signing to Death Row at that time, right,
- 18:21Speaker 1: he was just around right, and then he signed the
- 18:24Speaker 1: Death Row. And so yeah, when I got with Sug,
- 18:28Speaker 1: you know, Crooked Eye was there, Lisa was there, left
- 18:31Speaker 1: I was already on the label Crooked Eye first, and
- 18:34Speaker 1: then Sug did a thing with Lisa to do the
- 18:38Speaker 1: Nina album, and then after Nina came, got it to
- 18:43Speaker 1: be president oversee these projects with Sugar and all of that,
- 18:47Speaker 1: you know, and then from there, yep, til two thousand
- 18:53Speaker 1: and five. I think around then into two thousand and four,
- 18:56Speaker 1: two thousand and five, I'm not mistaken, you know. I
- 18:59Speaker 1: told Sugar that, you know what, because I talked with
- 19:01Speaker 1: Snoop and you know, Snoop was like, it's time to
- 19:06Speaker 1: come home. I was just like, Okay, Wow, you know what,
- 19:12Speaker 1: It's time to come home. The champ call Snoop call
- 19:17Speaker 1: is over. And that was really about the where the
- 19:20Speaker 1: friction was because you know, the homies didn't agree with
- 19:24Speaker 1: my choice. But when Snoop decided to talk to me,
- 19:28Speaker 1: you know, I feel right back in pocket as I should.
- 19:32Speaker 1: You know, that's when CALLI Is Active was created, when
- 19:34Speaker 1: we did Cali is Active. Yeah, what was it? Like?
- 19:37Speaker 1: I mean, tell me about some of the left eye
- 19:40Speaker 1: music that was being recorded because you know, obviously you
- 19:44Speaker 1: know she she passed, you know, way before her time,
- 19:48Speaker 1: and I'm you know, we never really got to get
- 19:52Speaker 1: get treated to left eye solo like I think, you know,
- 19:56Speaker 1: we should have, you know, So how was how was
- 19:59Speaker 1: the music was recording while you were at death or
- 20:01Speaker 1: Death Row? Well, left I was busting, excuse me. So
- 20:06Speaker 1: you know that's something that she wanted to do for
- 20:08Speaker 1: a mighty long time, excuse me, which to show her
- 20:12Speaker 1: skills as an MC. You know, with THLC, it was
- 20:18Speaker 1: a different level of music than the gendre of music,
- 20:22Speaker 1: and Lisa really wanted to be an MC. She wanted
- 20:25Speaker 1: to show and broadcast her skills as a rapper or
- 20:28Speaker 1: skill as a MC. She's from Philly, so you know,
- 20:31Speaker 1: she wanted to let loose some of that ill Adelf
- 20:33Speaker 1: madness that she had built up in her that she
- 20:36Speaker 1: couldn't do with TLC in the Face or whatever company
- 20:42Speaker 1: they was with after the Face. So it was like
- 20:44Speaker 1: a it was an outlet to release this this entity
- 20:50Speaker 1: in her she called Nina, and so that was like
- 20:54Speaker 1: her alias, her alias, you know what I'm saying. And
- 20:58Speaker 1: she you know, that's what she gave the lame for,
- 21:00Speaker 1: and she accepted it. She jumped on. And you know,
- 21:03Speaker 1: there's a whole different Lisa. Left Eye was the music fire.
- 21:08Speaker 1: She was fire. Yeah, I mean, of course, I mean, yeah,
- 21:13Speaker 1: there's this all these like you know albums we always
- 21:15Speaker 1: heard about. The music wasn't bad at all. You know,
- 21:19Speaker 1: it's just different for Lisa. You know, you'd be like,
- 21:23Speaker 1: oh wow, visually, you'll be able to see where she
- 21:26Speaker 1: was going, right, you know what I'm saying. You just
- 21:28Speaker 1: hear it. You'll be like, because you're so used to
- 21:31Speaker 1: Left Eye, you probably wouldn't accept Nina unless you saw
- 21:36Speaker 1: visually what she was going for, what she was going for,
- 21:39Speaker 1: and then and be like okay, because it's still left Eye,
- 21:43Speaker 1: but you know, different world. You go back with Snooping
- 21:47Speaker 1: and dads you do Cali as active. How was Shug's
- 21:52Speaker 1: feelings when it came to you leaving Death Row a
- 21:55Speaker 1: second time? Well, I told Sugar and I told my
- 21:59Speaker 1: brother draw he just got home doing fourteen years, and
- 22:06Speaker 1: you know, I let both of them know. You know what,
- 22:08Speaker 1: I went as far as I can go here, Crooked
- 22:12Speaker 1: Eyes albums out. You know, I did a solo album.
- 22:17Speaker 1: Y'all can have all of that, but I'm finna go
- 22:20Speaker 1: back with Snoopy and the homies, you know, And it
- 22:23Speaker 1: was time and at that time, there was like there
- 22:26Speaker 1: still was a lot of animosity between Snoop and Sug.
- 22:29Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, at least at least totally Yeah,
- 22:32Speaker 1: so you know what I'm saying. And uh, you know,
- 22:35Speaker 1: Snoop gave me that call. I talked to them. I
- 22:38Speaker 1: talked to my brother Draws first, get his opinion. See
- 22:42Speaker 1: what he thought. He said, you know, go with your feelings,
- 22:44Speaker 1: go at your heart, that's what you want to do.
- 22:47Speaker 1: So then I went to Sugar as a man to
- 22:49Speaker 1: let him know this is what I'm finna do because
- 22:51Speaker 1: he gave me that opportunity and I accepted it. You know,
- 22:55Speaker 1: Sugar's always been solid with me, you know. So you know,
- 23:00Speaker 1: he was like he gave me his blessing, which I
- 23:03Speaker 1: thought was like, oh, must be right. You know. Sugar
- 23:07Speaker 1: was just like, well, you know what, if you do
- 23:09Speaker 1: grew up, keep your business good. You know what I'm saying.
- 23:11Speaker 1: And you know, I think that's what you should do.
- 23:14Speaker 1: If that's what you want to do. You know, I'm
- 23:16Speaker 1: all with you, man, you know, and keep your business
- 23:18Speaker 1: up to par, you know what I'm saying. And so
- 23:21Speaker 1: he didn't. He didn't react the way that you know,
- 23:26Speaker 1: I would assume that era of Sugar night it wouldn't
- 23:29Speaker 1: have been the nicest reaction. But he never came at
- 23:33Speaker 1: me like that ever, even when I was a kid.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Never was this guy that people paint the picture of. Yeah,
- 23:42Speaker 1: I was gonna say, like, you were around Shug for
- 23:44Speaker 1: the better part of you know, ten plus years, right,
- 23:47Speaker 1: So we we hear a lot about Sugar, and then
- 23:49Speaker 1: I'll talk to people who were around him or who
- 23:52Speaker 1: are close with him, and they'll say, well, you know,
- 23:54Speaker 1: Sug's not I'm sure that there's a sign to him.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Sugar was like a father figure. I mean, he taught
- 24:02Speaker 1: taught us the game showed us the game. It was
- 24:06Speaker 1: a lot of things he kept out, you know what
- 24:10Speaker 1: I'm saying, didn't tell us about. But you know, when
- 24:14Speaker 1: you're moving that fast now, you don't get to do
- 24:18Speaker 1: to say everything or do everything. What he did teachers
- 24:22Speaker 1: shaped our lives, gave us a career. He believed in us,
- 24:26Speaker 1: invested in us time, energy, and financially, you know, and
- 24:33Speaker 1: you know he was he supported us one hundred you
- 24:37Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. Uh, you just hear all these
- 24:40Speaker 1: stories like people were getting beat up at the studio
- 24:42Speaker 1: all the time, or there was just a lot of
- 24:44Speaker 1: crazy shit going on. Like you know how very many
- 24:47Speaker 1: documentaries that have ever come out, there's always that side
- 24:50Speaker 1: of the death throw story that we hear about us,
- 24:53Speaker 1: were actually hear about the good parts, right, And there's
- 24:55Speaker 1: a lot. There's two sides of every coin justice, two
- 24:58Speaker 1: sides to every coin, big HOI. And you know when
- 25:02Speaker 1: it comes to Shug, that's the only side that people
- 25:06Speaker 1: want you to see. It's more exciting. He's the easy
- 25:11Speaker 1: He's the easy guy to make a villain in the
- 25:13Speaker 1: in the whole story of this whole thing, right, Like
- 25:17Speaker 1: like you said, people pick and choose the credit they
- 25:21Speaker 1: want to give him or not give him. But he's
- 25:24Speaker 1: the easy guy to point to him. So that's all.
- 25:27Speaker 1: It's all what the people want to see. Sex, money, drugs, violence, right, guns,
- 25:35Speaker 1: that sells. You know, being a great person really isn't
- 25:40Speaker 1: too exciting. Mm hmm. You know what I'm saying doesn't sell.
- 25:45Speaker 1: It doesn't sell documentaries or v H one die right right, right, right,
- 25:49Speaker 1: right right. Know what I'm saying, you nobody till somebody
- 25:54Speaker 1: kills you. You so you know when when you know,
- 25:58Speaker 1: you really don't get to get that side of it.
- 26:01Speaker 1: You know what good things Shoulg did. I'm not saying
- 26:04Speaker 1: he did no bad things or made no mistakes. I'm
- 26:09Speaker 1: not saying that. You know, shougt, you know, grab somebody
- 26:13Speaker 1: by the neck and pick them off their feet, right.
- 26:17Speaker 1: You know, in this business, you gotta wear many hats.
- 26:20Speaker 1: Should came from an environment, you know what I'm saying,
- 26:23Speaker 1: from the streets, so you know he also came from
- 26:27Speaker 1: another environment. He played football, and he played Actually I
- 26:32Speaker 1: think him and RBX went to UNLV at the same time.
- 26:35Speaker 1: By the way, shout out to RBX is one of
- 26:36Speaker 1: the craziest voices ever. Indeed, that's one of the things
- 26:40Speaker 1: Doctor Drey loved about RBX voice and his style and
- 26:44Speaker 1: niggas said Styley bumped and being found didn't do breathe
- 26:49Speaker 1: by I mean, nobody puts it together like rb The
- 26:52Speaker 1: only person I heard that puts it together like RBX
- 26:56Speaker 1: is the originator of style to me, and that's d
- 26:58Speaker 1: Oc to the DC. Doc was all style. He's the
- 27:04Speaker 1: way he worded it and put it together with the
- 27:06Speaker 1: wop And one of the biggest like what is if
- 27:08Speaker 1: he had never got in that accident, you know, and man, right,
- 27:13Speaker 1: the big but I think that's one of the biggest
- 27:15Speaker 1: of hip hop history. Oh yeah, you know, because man,
- 27:19Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, like, wow, he was so
- 27:22Speaker 1: on a roll at that time, you know what I'm saying.
- 27:26Speaker 1: He was about to be you know, where Snoop was
- 27:31Speaker 1: and became DC was on his way there to be
- 27:34Speaker 1: that guy first. And it's crazy because see that happened
- 27:38Speaker 1: to Doc, which stopped him from going to that place
- 27:42Speaker 1: that we see Snoopy at right now, uh iconic. And
- 27:48Speaker 1: then the same thing happened with Nipsey Hustle, and Nipsey
- 27:54Speaker 1: was on his way to being on that level. He
- 27:57Speaker 1: was man like Snoopy. They were just his favorites. You know,
- 28:01Speaker 1: Dog was a favorite. He came out. They they loved
- 28:04Speaker 1: him from the door. Deep Cover gone, you know what
- 28:08Speaker 1: I'm saying, which sparked everything from that point. They already
- 28:13Speaker 1: had the chronic in mind, but deep Cover just flew
- 28:15Speaker 1: them to the top. You know what I'm saying, already
- 28:19Speaker 1: before the chronic even came out. So you know, same
- 28:23Speaker 1: thing with d OC and with Nip, you know what
- 28:27Speaker 1: I mean. And there's others out there that had that
- 28:31Speaker 1: potential to be something special and different. Hey interrupting the
- 28:36Speaker 1: interview to tell you about our good friends at odd Socks. Now,
- 28:39Speaker 1: as you can see, I always have my odd socks on, baby.

- 29:28Speaker 1: There's something about Snoop. I always say this, Snoop's the
- 29:32Speaker 1: most famous rapper ever. Like when we're talking about like
- 29:36Speaker 1: the biggest ever, I'm talking about household name. I'm talking
- 29:39Speaker 1: about your grandma knows who Snoop Dogg is, Your great
- 29:44Speaker 1: grandma knows who Snoop dog is, your dad knows who ever, Like,
- 29:47Speaker 1: Snoop is the most famous rapper we've ever had. He's
- 29:51Speaker 1: the biggest as far as just like household name, Like,
- 29:55Speaker 1: I don't think there's anybody who's ever been more famous
- 29:57Speaker 1: than Snoop Dogg exactly period. And I say I always
- 30:02Speaker 1: say this, I say the two there's no one to
- 30:04Speaker 1: who's been bigger at their peak then Snoop at his peak.
- 30:08Speaker 1: And fifty cent at his peak, Fifty at his peak,
- 30:12Speaker 1: and Snoop at his peak, nobody's ever been bigger. Now,
- 30:15Speaker 1: There's been people who have longer runs at the top,
- 30:17Speaker 1: like Drag or Uh you know you could go. You know,
- 30:21Speaker 1: there's there's been artists who have had longer runs at
- 30:24Speaker 1: the top, but at their peaks. You're talking about though, right,
- 30:27Speaker 1: because you ain't talking about in general, No, I'm about
- 30:29Speaker 1: I'm talking about hip hop, gotcha, I'm talking about hip
- 30:32Speaker 1: hop period. Like, I don't think anyone's ever been bigger
- 30:34Speaker 1: than Fifty or Snoop at their peaks because they had
- 30:37Speaker 1: so much stuff going on that just added to the intrigue.
- 30:39Speaker 1: Fifty got shot nine times, Snoop is facing the murder charge.
- 30:43Speaker 1: It was like, right, it was nothing nothing. I don't
- 30:46Speaker 1: think anything's ever really been bigger now. Like I said,
- 30:51Speaker 1: even pac Man, even Pup came out. Everything stopped. I
- 30:55Speaker 1: think all of hip hop stopped. I think Snoop, I
- 30:59Speaker 1: know what you but I'm telling you, do you him?
- 31:02Speaker 1: Do you think Park at his peak was bigger than
- 31:05Speaker 1: Snoop at his peak? All eyes on me. I think
- 31:08Speaker 1: they were all equivalent. They're equal. You can't say one
- 31:11Speaker 1: is bigger than the other. That's what people do. They
- 31:13Speaker 1: want to say who's bigger or who there is no bigger.
- 31:17Speaker 1: When you heard Doggie Style, everything stopped. For sure, you're
- 31:23Speaker 1: gonna try and tell me when you heard All Eyes
- 31:25Speaker 1: on Me, everything didn't stop. I think I think that, Yeah,
- 31:31Speaker 1: I mean, obviously All Eyes on Me is one of
- 31:33Speaker 1: the greatest hip hop albums ever. When Fifty came with
- 31:36Speaker 1: his album, everything stopped, that's real. That's the peak. When
- 31:43Speaker 1: you dropping, everything stops, that's the peak. So you can't
- 31:50Speaker 1: say dog fifty. But I said Pac. I was saying Pac.
- 31:58Speaker 1: And you know the crazy thing is when Biggs album dropped,
- 32:02Speaker 1: everything stopped. Unfortunately he passed away. Yeah, that second album,
- 32:09Speaker 1: and then that's that second album. The second album had
- 32:11Speaker 1: already been going. Yeah, it was couldn't even enjoy that peak, right,
- 32:16Speaker 1: But Park was alive during that peak. Snoopy was alive
- 32:21Speaker 1: during that peak, and fifty was alive during that But
- 32:25Speaker 1: they are alive and those three particular albums I must
- 32:31Speaker 1: say it too, eminem you can't tell me how my
- 32:34Speaker 1: Name Is dropped everything, especially especially Marsha Mathers LP when
- 32:39Speaker 1: that second album dropped, the first one I'm talking about this.
- 32:42Speaker 1: You're talking about the second one, but the first one
- 32:45Speaker 1: I stopped. I think the second one, my name is
- 32:48Speaker 1: stopped everything. You couldn't even relate to, what the what
- 32:52Speaker 1: the fuck is this ship? Who murdering people and kill it? Stopped?
- 32:59Speaker 1: The game stopped. Hi my name Is was his peak.
- 33:05Speaker 1: Everything else was rise because Stan and all of that
- 33:09Speaker 1: was that. When he dropped, he was at his peak.
- 33:12Speaker 1: When Snoop dropped, he was at his peak. When fifty dropped,
- 33:16Speaker 1: he was at his peak. That was the peak. When
- 33:19Speaker 1: Pop dropped All Eyes on Me, he was at his peak.
- 33:22Speaker 1: He was already selling millions with I definitely think I
- 33:27Speaker 1: went to jail. Obviously, there's a few artists saying you
- 33:29Speaker 1: think of like Wayne, right, Like Wayne, I think Wayne's
- 33:32Speaker 1: like he had been around for so long, so it
- 33:35Speaker 1: was more like a steady climb, Like Carter one came
- 33:39Speaker 1: out and people realized, oh shit, little Wyne can rap.
- 33:41Speaker 1: And then Carter two came out and they were like, oh,
- 33:43Speaker 1: this is a this is a classic. And then his
- 33:45Speaker 1: peak was Carter three and he was the biggest motherfucker
- 33:48Speaker 1: in the world. But I just think as far as
- 33:50Speaker 1: like just like I can't think of like an energy
- 33:54Speaker 1: like fifty or Snoop at their at their peak. I
- 33:57Speaker 1: just feel like you turned the TV on they you
- 34:01Speaker 1: just couldn't avoid fifty or Snoop, you know what I'm saying.
- 34:03Speaker 1: But in general, Snoop overall is the biggest most famous
- 34:07Speaker 1: rapper ever. You worded like that, you're absolutely correct, He's
- 34:11Speaker 1: the most famous million. No, but when you word that peak,
- 34:14Speaker 1: when you worded it like you did about that peak, yeah,
- 34:18Speaker 1: absolutely correct Snoopy and fifty, they was everywhere. Yeah, and
- 34:25Speaker 1: I'm not saying like I mean obviously, and you know
- 34:28Speaker 1: like you're right as well. But yeah, no, it's crazy
- 34:31Speaker 1: too because I always think about but you got to
- 34:32Speaker 1: put the way you describing the peak. Well, Eminem had
- 34:36Speaker 1: like ten years. I think em sold more records than anyone.
- 34:40Speaker 1: It's like either him or Dragon with that peak, though,
- 34:43Speaker 1: my name is or how crazy? So so let me
- 34:47Speaker 1: ask you this because you obviously you know we're giving
- 34:50Speaker 1: flowers one of Eminem's more famous versus when he mentions
- 34:55Speaker 1: you and he mentions Redman, and he mentions, right, that
- 34:58Speaker 1: was until I collapse, right when they I'm not mistaken. Yeah,
- 35:01Speaker 1: so you hear that, and I thought that was super
- 35:05Speaker 1: dope because at the time, m's the biggest motherfucker in
- 35:07Speaker 1: the world. And somehow I still feel like you're still
- 35:10Speaker 1: slept on because you're corrupt. Like to me, you're like
- 35:13Speaker 1: a superhero. But it was felt so good to hear
- 35:16Speaker 1: it felt so good, Eminem, give you some flowers on
- 35:19Speaker 1: a record amongst all those names, like how dope was that?
- 35:22Speaker 1: And I was like, wow, cause you know, you really
- 35:25Speaker 1: don't accept it. You know, I'm used to being the
- 35:30Speaker 1: the underdog, as you would say. You know, I'm used
- 35:33Speaker 1: to being you know, that guy who you know, as
- 35:39Speaker 1: good as I am on the mic. Being a star
- 35:42Speaker 1: is something totally different. Yes, you know what I'm saying.
- 35:46Speaker 1: No matter how good you are, you could be the
- 35:48Speaker 1: best with the pen, but it doesn't make you a star,
- 35:53Speaker 1: Eminem Snoopy and fifty or stars, you know what I'm saying.
- 35:58Speaker 1: But you are a legend. You're legend. You're legend. It's
- 36:02Speaker 1: just like when Kendrick they asked him. I saw an interview,
- 36:06Speaker 1: one of his first interviews and asked him his influence
- 36:09Speaker 1: and he said corrupt. And the people was interviewing him
- 36:13Speaker 1: he really couldn't relate, like whoa what what not? Pop,
- 36:18Speaker 1: not snoop, not this or nothing. He's like, no, no, no, corrupt.
- 36:22Speaker 1: You know, I learned, you know, they inspired me towards corrupt.
- 36:26Speaker 1: And everybody was totally startled about it. I know I was,
- 36:30Speaker 1: because you know, it's a lot of people you give
- 36:33Speaker 1: influence to when they win, you'll normally hear him say
- 36:37Speaker 1: that the normal names. But Kendrick was one of the first, uh,
- 36:45Speaker 1: one of the first, because the first one was M.
- 36:47Speaker 1: You know, when M splashed on him with the wop wop,
- 36:50Speaker 1: and then Kendrick comes along with the wham wham, and
- 36:53Speaker 1: I was just like, wow, you know that's enough for me.
- 36:57Speaker 1: You know, those are the flowers that meant the most
- 37:00Speaker 1: to me because they didn't have to do that. They
- 37:04Speaker 1: spoke from the heart and how they really felt. A
- 37:06Speaker 1: lot of artists don't speak from the heart and what
- 37:08Speaker 1: they really feel. They speak to satisfy. So they would
- 37:12Speaker 1: give you these regular names, wouldn't talk about, you know,
- 37:17Speaker 1: somebody that doesn't make people say ooh, yeah, and that
- 37:22Speaker 1: was the ooh and all that damn corruption in that list,
- 37:26Speaker 1: and damn Kendrick gave it up for corrupt. You know,
- 37:29Speaker 1: that was a shaker right there. Very appreciated and loved.
- 37:33Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, And yeah, that made me say, Wow,
- 37:38Speaker 1: that's dope, and I did smile pretty big. Let's go
- 37:43Speaker 1: back to streets. As of Mother, the bonus track on
- 37:46Speaker 1: that is calling out names, which was another one of
- 37:50Speaker 1: those songs that I was motherfucker d motherfuck am. Only
- 37:53Speaker 1: X I know is exhibit or RBX extraordinary you had
- 37:57Speaker 1: a bitch anyway. I know this song by heart. I
- 37:59Speaker 1: love that song. Uh. DMX was like you can see
- 38:02Speaker 1: I have DMX behind you here. You know, DMX is
- 38:04Speaker 1: a huge he's watching. I love X, man. But take
- 38:09Speaker 1: me back to that that feud between you and X.
- 38:11Speaker 1: Obviously you know he passed away earlier this year. It
- 38:16Speaker 1: was over your ex or what was what is that?
- 38:19Speaker 1: What it was? Yeah, you know it was. Uh, I
- 38:23Speaker 1: was in my feelings and I was really just upset
- 38:27Speaker 1: the whole experience with this young lady and just upset
- 38:31Speaker 1: period at the way I was being treated being with
- 38:36Speaker 1: this young lady, you know, and just let off some
- 38:39Speaker 1: steam throughout the time of being with her. Certain individuals.
- 38:45Speaker 1: You know, people will pump you up if you allow
- 38:47Speaker 1: them to, if you let them, and like, you know,
- 38:51Speaker 1: I can say that a lot of people, you know,
- 38:54Speaker 1: told me things that I took the heart that this
- 38:57Speaker 1: person was saying this, and this person said that, and
- 39:00Speaker 1: then this magazine, this person said that DMX was just
- 39:05Speaker 1: the straw that broke the camel's back, you know what
- 39:08Speaker 1: I'm saying, to where my anger was, and so then
- 39:13Speaker 1: I just I just let it all go. You know,
- 39:17Speaker 1: DMX is the main thing everybody concentrates on. But I
- 39:22Speaker 1: don't really talk about murder inc I don't really talk
- 39:25Speaker 1: about the rough riders in the hole or the firm,
- 39:34Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. And everybody else that I
- 39:36Speaker 1: spoke on, you have X is the main thing they speak.
- 39:40Speaker 1: You had, you had a lot of stuff, I mean
- 39:43Speaker 1: in the situation, a lot of people eighty right, you
- 39:46Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. So, but there was a lot
- 39:48Speaker 1: of different people I was upset at and angry about
- 39:52Speaker 1: things that went on or what I heard. I brought
- 39:56Speaker 1: the cart before the horse, you know, and really, you know,
- 40:00Speaker 1: things like this, you talk to people, man the man,
- 40:02Speaker 1: you really don't voice it through the music, you know
- 40:06Speaker 1: what I mean. You know, the way I was grew
- 40:09Speaker 1: I grew up. You know, if you really want to
- 40:12Speaker 1: smash somebody beat them up first, and then you can
- 40:14Speaker 1: talk about them, you know, but don't talk about him first,
- 40:19Speaker 1: you know. And I was just really angry. What was
- 40:22Speaker 1: your issue with with murdering you know that? He says,
- 40:26Speaker 1: She say, same thing with the Firm that he says,
- 40:29Speaker 1: she say, you know, person told me this. And because
- 40:33Speaker 1: when the Firm came out, obviously drag executly if you're
- 40:35Speaker 1: just that album and it was something that was people
- 40:39Speaker 1: highlighted in the magazine and said read this, remember those magaze.
- 40:43Speaker 1: But you know what's crazy is that was before social media,
- 40:45Speaker 1: so it wasn't as easy to just DM somebody and say, yo,
- 40:48Speaker 1: what what did you mean? You were just whatever was
- 40:51Speaker 1: in the source or vibe that was. That was the
- 40:53Speaker 1: key to this record back in our day, was that
- 40:57Speaker 1: was the only way to let a person know that
- 40:59Speaker 1: you didn't like them or had issues in the magazine
- 41:02Speaker 1: was in the records or magazine. You know what I'm saying,
- 41:05Speaker 1: your music or your magazines. But nobody was really saying
- 41:10Speaker 1: who they was mad at. Everybody was subliminal. There was
- 41:13Speaker 1: a lot of subs yeah, you know, and that's the
- 41:15Speaker 1: thing about calling out names, which made it very different
- 41:18Speaker 1: because you said everything. Everything you said exactly right, and
- 41:23Speaker 1: you know it was only Rarity records back in the
- 41:25Speaker 1: days like that, real disc records. You know, Chris back
- 41:30Speaker 1: in the days with mc shan bridge is over in
- 41:35Speaker 1: South Bronx and letting it be known, you know, and
- 41:39Speaker 1: h then you know, as you keep going, you see
- 41:41Speaker 1: the progression ice que, no basoline, but a lot of
- 41:45Speaker 1: rapper hit them up, yeah, hit them up, popped. You
- 41:48Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. Before that it was all subliminal,
- 41:51Speaker 1: like New York New York. Wasn't to dis New York
- 41:54Speaker 1: because I don't do subliminals. I'm a real battle rapper.
- 41:57Speaker 1: I'm a real MC. If I had an issue with body,
- 42:01Speaker 1: you know, I'm gonna put their name in and let
- 42:02Speaker 1: them know. You pinpoint them. You you and you you
- 42:07Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. And so New York New York
- 42:11Speaker 1: was taken out of text and you know, yeah, that
- 42:14Speaker 1: song was never meant to be a slight to New
- 42:16Speaker 1: York correct, not at all. And the video I think
- 42:19Speaker 1: I don't eve think it was much about the song
- 42:21Speaker 1: as much it was about the video that was after
- 42:23Speaker 1: we got shot at mm HM. So so that so
- 42:26Speaker 1: you guys got shot at and then you guys did
- 42:28Speaker 1: the video the way you did the video. So the
- 42:31Speaker 1: video was meant to be like a fuck you, But
- 42:33Speaker 1: the song itself originally was not meant to be a
- 42:36Speaker 1: fun like a fuck you know. The first scenes was
- 42:39Speaker 1: in Tom Square. We wouldn't go to New York to
- 42:42Speaker 1: shoot the video. I mean, we had balls, but not
- 42:44Speaker 1: that much. You know what I'm saying. New York in
- 42:47Speaker 1: the ninety is a wild place, as was as was
- 42:50Speaker 1: La the Capitol. But New York, New York is like
- 42:54Speaker 1: Los Angeles. They had the gangs, original gangs, right, you
- 42:58Speaker 1: know what I'm saying out of New New York City,
- 43:00Speaker 1: So you know what I'm saying, like Chicago, you know
- 43:03Speaker 1: what I'm saying. You know, so we we thought actually
- 43:08Speaker 1: New York would accept it. It's a Melly Mel chorus.
- 43:10Speaker 1: Melley Mel in the Furious five Grandmaster Flash. You know,
- 43:15Speaker 1: Melly Mel cleared it. You know what I'm saying, got paid.
- 43:20Speaker 1: So we was like, Melly Mel cleared it. Oh well, dang,
- 43:24Speaker 1: we finally gonna get the respect. We're gonna get New
- 43:26Speaker 1: York to love. They gonna love us for this when
- 43:29Speaker 1: we you know, put this one out, they gonna love us,
- 43:32Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. And when we dropped Dog Food,
- 43:35Speaker 1: nobody made a fuss about New York, New York. Our
- 43:38Speaker 1: first single was Let's play House, so the album was
- 43:42Speaker 1: already out, nobody was making a fuss like we was
- 43:45Speaker 1: this in New York, and everybody liked New York, New York.
- 43:49Speaker 1: That's why it became the next video, and we said
- 43:52Speaker 1: we're gonna shoot this in time. We're gonna shoot this
- 43:54Speaker 1: in Times Square in New York. Oh man, we finally
- 43:58Speaker 1: gonna get the love that. You know, as much as
- 44:02Speaker 1: we loved New York, New York is finally gonna love us.
- 44:05Speaker 1: This song is dedicated to them, and we're gonna give
- 44:08Speaker 1: respected them seas corrupt you leading that way for them
- 44:11Speaker 1: to love you know what I'm saying. I was like, wow,
- 44:17Speaker 1: he says this is gonna be historic. So we fly
- 44:19Speaker 1: out there. We flew out the low Riders and that
- 44:23Speaker 1: was a big deal to us, and we invited everybody
- 44:26Speaker 1: to come through and and let's all get down and
- 44:31Speaker 1: you know, come be in the video and let's show
- 44:33Speaker 1: them this unification. The only one that really showed up
- 44:37Speaker 1: was Mony Love. You know, she showed up and gave
- 44:41Speaker 1: us some love. Nobody else showed up. A couple of
- 44:46Speaker 1: people though we had k K solo building. He always
- 44:51Speaker 1: fucked with us though, you know, and a couple other
- 44:54Speaker 1: people came and show love. But you know, so you
- 44:57Speaker 1: guys had originally intended to invite a bunch of people
- 45:01Speaker 1: from New York to the New York. We sent a
- 45:03Speaker 1: shout out to all in New York, you know, coming
- 45:06Speaker 1: through we're shooting this video dedicated to you'all type of vibe,
- 45:11Speaker 1: and they really didn't feel that way. And then, uh,
- 45:14Speaker 1: after we shot in Times Square, we shot and Red Hook, Brooklyn,
- 45:20Speaker 1: and a couple of shells went through our trailer. Nobody
- 45:25Speaker 1: got hurt, but our pride did, so you know, we
- 45:31Speaker 1: stopped everything, got about it there, we got home, We
- 45:34Speaker 1: was down for a bit and then we just was like,
- 45:38Speaker 1: we can't go for this. That's where you came up
- 45:42Speaker 1: with the new video. I think we're gonna show you this,
- 45:47Speaker 1: and then the whole dynamics and direction of the video
- 45:53Speaker 1: changed and that's when we did all of that right there. Yeah,
- 45:58Speaker 1: that was an interesting video and an interesting time too,
- 46:00Speaker 1: because then I know, you know, shots component nor legacy
- 46:04Speaker 1: and ended there the l A l A l A
- 46:08Speaker 1: L A which was you know it was it was.
- 46:11Speaker 1: It was a wild time to be around. I'm sure
- 46:13Speaker 1: be around. Talk to Nori about it. I think we
- 46:15Speaker 1: was on he was on a drink Champs. Yeah, talking
- 46:22Speaker 1: about that, you know, Noy was you know, he's so funny,
- 46:27Speaker 1: he's hilarious, He's the best. Nooy was one of the
- 46:31Speaker 1: first that I linked up with. Uh. We became very
- 46:36Speaker 1: good close friends. You know. It's fortunate that I linked
- 46:39Speaker 1: up with d m X before we passed away and
- 46:43Speaker 1: we became friends. Actually, I think who was up in there,
- 46:48Speaker 1: Dana Dan was at the airport. Me, d m X,
- 46:52Speaker 1: and Dana Danes all had flights and me and DMX
- 46:56Speaker 1: squashed our situation and became really good friends. Did man.
- 47:01Speaker 1: You know, I talked to him whenever I see him.
- 47:03Speaker 1: We was all cool and new. It was good that
- 47:06Speaker 1: that happened before he passed away. Get that. Just get
- 47:09Speaker 1: that out the way, you know what I'm saying. Me
- 47:11Speaker 1: and nas I did a movie with Jah Rule. You
- 47:15Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, Half past dead. You know, we
- 47:18Speaker 1: got rid of our differences. Talk with IRV, I talk
- 47:21Speaker 1: with everybody that you know that I shot at with
- 47:27Speaker 1: calling out names and got rid of all of that,
- 47:29Speaker 1: you know, all those issues and problems. Yeah, it's crazy
- 47:34Speaker 1: too because you were super super so close to Snoop
- 47:37Speaker 1: Dogg and Snoop Dogg historically, Like we look back at
- 47:40Speaker 1: that time, he had a lot of people in New
- 47:42Speaker 1: York that he was tight with, and from what I've heard,
- 47:45Speaker 1: sugar was not didn't like that. Sugar Pot didn't like
- 47:47Speaker 1: the fact that he was so cool with a bunch
- 47:50Speaker 1: of New York MC's during that time. Are you still
- 47:54Speaker 1: like super close with Snoop and did you have some
- 47:56Speaker 1: of those same relationships Snoop had or some of those
- 47:58Speaker 1: New York artists we're still on death Rod. Yeah, so
- 48:09Speaker 1: that was Yeah, that was because that was before you
- 48:11Speaker 1: started it. Because when did corruption come out? T ninety eight? Okay, okay,
- 48:15Speaker 1: so that was right before you left. So you felt
- 48:21Speaker 1: did you when that was when Tupac came home? Yeah?
- 48:23Speaker 1: I was gonna say, did you feel like the division
- 48:26Speaker 1: between POC and sug and Snoop, Like, did you see
- 48:30Speaker 1: it like with your own eyes? Because obviously there was
- 48:32Speaker 1: you know that we heard pop records that got leaked
- 48:34Speaker 1: way after where he was talking about Snoop. You know
- 48:36Speaker 1: what I'm saying, like, did you see that with your
- 48:38Speaker 1: own eyes? Like that division, like whether you could sit
- 48:40Speaker 1: where you could tell like, oh, you know Snoops can
- 48:42Speaker 1: eventually end up leaving death APN is a gang? Yes, yes,
- 48:49Speaker 1: self explanatory. Yes, How how weird was that that? That
- 48:55Speaker 1: that time though, because you're obviously from a fans perspective,
- 48:58Speaker 1: we didn't see all of the intern issues going on,
- 49:01Speaker 1: right pocket is like you said, the biggest thing moving
- 49:06Speaker 1: you know, two of America's most wanted is a song
- 49:09Speaker 1: with Pock and Snoop on it that's going crazy. But
- 49:11Speaker 1: did the beat and das did the beat? And and
- 49:14Speaker 1: you know and at the time there the Snoop and
- 49:18Speaker 1: Pock and sugarn't seeing I die? You know what I'm saying, Like,
- 49:20Speaker 1: what was that? What was that? What was that era
- 49:22Speaker 1: like of just just being around Snoop and dog pounds
- 49:25Speaker 1: like this Crip? That was the era period? That's what
- 49:32Speaker 1: it was, right, Crip? So at that like was there
- 49:39Speaker 1: ever a point in time? Work was our friend? And
- 49:41Speaker 1: when I say our, I'm speaking of the dog pound
- 49:44Speaker 1: in general, Snoopy, dazz Grub. You know what I'm saying,
- 49:50Speaker 1: and outlaws and thug life psyching everybody, you know what
- 49:54Speaker 1: I'm saying. So they was all our friends. Now the
- 49:57Speaker 1: two heads of the horses having issue, you know, so
- 50:04Speaker 1: you know eventually it would have worked that out, you
- 50:08Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. That's what you know friends do.
- 50:11Speaker 1: And Tupac and Snoopy were real friends, you know what
- 50:15Speaker 1: I'm saying. And Poc had his issue and Snoopy was
- 50:19Speaker 1: you know, I mean, what's gonna happen to Snoop? Right?
- 50:24Speaker 1: Nothing if people are smart? Yeah, you know what I'm saying.
- 50:29Speaker 1: And Pac didn't want a harm dog, you know what
- 50:34Speaker 1: I'm saying. Tupac loved dog. He was more disappointed than anything.
- 50:40Speaker 1: And you know, me and Pac are similar. Sometimes we
- 50:43Speaker 1: bring the cart before the horse, you know what I'm saying.
- 50:47Speaker 1: And like those records you hear, you know that was Pac.
- 50:50Speaker 1: He was filled with anger and he would let it go.
- 50:54Speaker 1: And those records probably were never even recorded for us
- 50:57Speaker 1: to ever hear. Obviously they were never official released like
- 51:00Speaker 1: they was recorded to be heard, you know. But it's
- 51:06Speaker 1: just like me and DMX, you know what I'm saying.
- 51:10Speaker 1: You know, we we got together and squashed our beef
- 51:17Speaker 1: and we didn't even know each other. Snoop and Tupac
- 51:21Speaker 1: they knew each other, they were friends, so that was yeah,
- 51:24Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So that would eventually been
- 51:26Speaker 1: taking out the water. And I doubt if Pop would
- 51:29Speaker 1: have released those records about Snoopy, you know what I'm saying.
- 51:34Speaker 1: But you never know what. Tupac was very spontaneous and
- 51:39Speaker 1: he said what he meant. You know what I'm saying
- 51:42Speaker 1: that it was Tupac, you talk to me about you know,
- 51:45Speaker 1: Four Horsemen, which was originally a record that was on
- 51:49Speaker 1: I forget which Cannabis album it was. I think it
- 51:52Speaker 1: was two a group. We tried to do it, put
- 51:56Speaker 1: it together, but our shit kept leaking. We put the
- 51:59Speaker 1: group together first, came up with the whole idea, and
- 52:02Speaker 1: we were about to make a reality, but records kept
- 52:05Speaker 1: getting leak, kept getting leaked, so we put a pause
- 52:07Speaker 1: on it. So Cannabis and ras Cast took one of
- 52:11Speaker 1: the records. Each took a different record. It was like, well,
- 52:14Speaker 1: fuck it, man, I'm gonna put this on my album.
- 52:16Speaker 1: Since we're gonna freeze on the album, right, I'm gon'll
- 52:18Speaker 1: put this on my album. That was cannabis, and I'm
- 52:21Speaker 1: gonna put this on my I think priests took couples
- 52:23Speaker 1: that fuck it, I don't put these on March because
- 52:25Speaker 1: we planned on starting from scratch anyway. Everybody was leaking
- 52:29Speaker 1: all of our shit, so that's what they did to
- 52:31Speaker 1: give them pieces of the Horsemen and the experience that
- 52:35Speaker 1: we was planning on coming back together to give them
- 52:38Speaker 1: new records. Took us twenty years to actually get through
- 52:43Speaker 1: the real the real masterpiece together, the real product. Saying,
- 52:47Speaker 1: like what you guys did back then. I always look
- 52:50Speaker 1: at you guys as like the original Slaughterhouse, Like you know,
- 52:52Speaker 1: slaughter House was Joe Budden and Joel our Teas and
- 52:55Speaker 1: Royce everybody came to there the Crooked Eye. But you
- 52:58Speaker 1: guys did that first as just kind of like this
- 53:01Speaker 1: supergroup of like just lyrical monsters. You know what I'm saying.
- 53:04Speaker 1: That's a compliment, Thank you much. Why was why? Why?
- 53:07Speaker 1: Why is now the time to come back together? Though? Like?
- 53:10Speaker 1: Why why? Uh? Like what's the motivation to do for
- 53:14Speaker 1: Horsemen project in twenty twenty one. We're a real group.
- 53:22Speaker 1: It's not a gimmick, right, and we were just doing
- 53:25Speaker 1: it just to do it. Yeah, he's a real group.
- 53:30Speaker 1: Dog Pound, EPM, D RUN, DMC, Public Enemy. You know,
- 53:37Speaker 1: one album, many more to come, you know what I'm saying.
- 53:42Speaker 1: It took us dad long to be able to get it.
- 53:44Speaker 1: People kept throwing our ship out there inside people. You know,
- 53:48Speaker 1: we couldn't ship, man, they just kept coming out. Do
- 53:52Speaker 1: five records, next thing, you know, four of them will
- 53:54Speaker 1: get leaked. That's crazy, like oh man, And then you know,
- 53:57Speaker 1: we got our own lives and careers, so then, you know,
- 54:00Speaker 1: you try so much to get it there, it keeps
- 54:03Speaker 1: falling back. So you know, hey, we just go and
- 54:06Speaker 1: do our own things and eventually get back together when
- 54:10Speaker 1: we can and try it again. And we tried about
- 54:13Speaker 1: two good times the first time, and then we try
- 54:16Speaker 1: the second time the same results. So this is the
- 54:19Speaker 1: third time to try try and rather right three times
- 54:22Speaker 1: it yar'll swell? What's the competition levels between all four
- 54:26Speaker 1: of you guys, because each one of you, I mean,
- 54:29Speaker 1: do you get on the record hoping to have the
- 54:31Speaker 1: best verse, because everyone's killers on each one of these records.
- 54:34Speaker 1: You know, I get on there and have fun, right,
- 54:37Speaker 1: you know, it's it's fun, so you know, get up there.
- 54:41Speaker 1: Everybody's together, or three of us together, or even if
- 54:44Speaker 1: it's two and you just spit. You know what I'm saying.
- 54:48Speaker 1: The first the first verse tells you everything. I don't
- 54:52Speaker 1: think we came up with hooks first. I think we
- 54:54Speaker 1: came up the verses first. Right, bam, what's that first
- 54:58Speaker 1: one laid first? The next one comes, the hook comes. Oh,
- 55:03Speaker 1: let's get that to such and such, such and such,
- 55:04Speaker 1: or if we're all there, it just falls in line.
- 55:08Speaker 1: You know, we just have fun. We just get on
- 55:09Speaker 1: the mic. Our songs is similar to ciphers. They all
- 55:12Speaker 1: start off as ciphers to be playing, and then everybody's
- 55:15Speaker 1: just get the busting like a cipher and then yeah,
- 55:21Speaker 1: something catching crash, which is exactly what fans would want
- 55:24Speaker 1: to hear from you guys. Some bars. That's all we did.
- 55:28Speaker 1: And you know, and that was the key to Horsemen.
- 55:30Speaker 1: You know, we wasn't thinking about radio records or thank god,
- 55:34Speaker 1: I wouldn't want that from from people to people like yeah,
- 55:37Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. We gave them the mic.
- 55:40Speaker 1: That's what the Horseman is about, pure and the delta
- 55:43Speaker 1: ated mic, you know what I'm saying. And so you know,
- 55:47Speaker 1: we was able to still save a couple from the
- 55:49Speaker 1: past people ain't getting. We took a couple of records
- 55:53Speaker 1: that stood out from the past that we that was
- 55:56Speaker 1: placed out and then just some new ones and added
- 55:59Speaker 1: on ras and may basically forefront of getting it all
- 56:05Speaker 1: together and putting it all together. They did great. Okay,
- 56:09Speaker 1: so that so go support the full Horseman ship. Oh yeah,
- 56:14Speaker 1: is there any talks of doing another dot pound album?
- 56:19Speaker 1: We dropping August August thirteenth, So August thirteenth, the thirt
- 56:26Speaker 1: so that's coming me and dads yep. And the first
- 56:29Speaker 1: single is Nice and Slow. We released some from the album,
- 56:32Speaker 1: I think two of them. We gave Tom to lighten
- 56:36Speaker 1: up their little muskets and uh which you know, bottom
- 56:40Speaker 1: bitch and we rolling. And then we just shot our
- 56:45Speaker 1: first single and second official singles. The first one is
- 56:50Speaker 1: Nice and Slow with me, Dad's and Snoopy. Second one
- 56:54Speaker 1: is used to you know me, dads and Eric Bellinger
- 57:00Speaker 1: Aaric belder Man, Yeah, my guy. Uh. And then the
- 57:03Speaker 1: other thing is you know, Dre has been in the
- 57:06Speaker 1: studio working on the Detox and thirteen million iterations of
- 57:10Speaker 1: the Detox for the last hour. Doctor Dre is a stickler.
- 57:13Speaker 1: How many how many, like have you heard any of
- 57:15Speaker 1: that music? And were you asked to be on any
- 57:17Speaker 1: of the records that we probably will never end up hearing.
- 57:20Speaker 1: But like, were you ever at a at all point
- 57:22Speaker 1: a part of that creative process since day one? Since
- 57:28Speaker 1: day one? How great is the music? Because I'm sure
- 57:33Speaker 1: whatever you heard will probably never even end up hearing.
- 57:35Speaker 1: But like, I mean, I hope I'm wrong. I heard
- 57:37Speaker 1: three or four detoxes. You know. It's like, but doctor Dre,
- 57:43Speaker 1: you know, he's he's a perfectionist. That's why all his
- 57:48Speaker 1: records are just different. Every time they hit a peak,
- 57:53Speaker 1: they go somewhere with something different. Doctor Dre. It's a perfectionist,
- 57:58Speaker 1: you know, he's you know, you wait and you wait,
- 58:01Speaker 1: but when you get it, it's worth it. Oh boy
- 58:04Speaker 1: is it? You know what I'm saying. And so you
- 58:07Speaker 1: know with doctor Dre, I mean, shit, man, he got
- 58:12Speaker 1: so much in that bolt you know, classics, but you know,
- 58:17Speaker 1: doctor Dre, it's something he's looking for and when he
- 58:21Speaker 1: finds it, I just hope. I just hope we like,
- 58:23Speaker 1: like we get an album where we hear you and
- 58:27Speaker 1: Snoop and Dazz and Exhibit and you know, Dre have
- 58:31Speaker 1: so many that he has created so many like a
- 58:37Speaker 1: coup of stars and crowman artists that people want to
- 58:42Speaker 1: hear like that. You know, I think it's kind of
- 58:45Speaker 1: difficult by the way he did well. He did a
- 58:47Speaker 1: great job putting the Compton album together. That album doesn't
- 58:52Speaker 1: get talked about enough. That was a great body of work.
- 58:54Speaker 1: But I just like, I'm just always like man, like
- 58:56Speaker 1: you know, I remember before that album, the last Chronic
- 59:01Speaker 1: album he put out the Aftermath after Yeah, the Aftermath compilation.
- 59:06Speaker 1: We've been there, done that, and then he dropped the Chronic.
- 59:12Speaker 1: This time he dropped Compton, which that's fair, so nice comparison.
- 59:16Speaker 1: So you know what's gonna happened. Okay, well we'll be
- 59:20Speaker 1: waiting and let's just look at what he has to
- 59:23Speaker 1: bring to the table, and then you'll understand how difficult
- 59:27Speaker 1: it is because the album has to have everybody on it.
- 59:32Speaker 1: This has to have those three, it has to have
- 59:34Speaker 1: Kendrick Snoop, It's got to have you. It's gotta yeah, no, no,
- 59:38Speaker 1: for sure. Rage you know, that's the type of place
- 59:42Speaker 1: doctor Drake's going where I can fit in. Its just
- 59:47Speaker 1: all of it a big gumbo. What I'm saying well
- 59:50Speaker 1: that's what he did with two thousand and one. Man,
- 59:52Speaker 1: it was it was like a perfect you know even.
- 59:56Speaker 1: I mean when I talked to fifty, I was like, yo, fifty, like,
- 59:59Speaker 1: why don't you Am and Dre just get into the
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: studio and make an album, Like that's what the fans want.
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: Why is it so hard to just give people what
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: they want? But but but he gets in the studio,
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: and then there's M and M who's the you know,
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: and then there's fifties executive producing all these TV shows.
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: Sometimes it's not you know, just being a hip hop fan,
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: you thinks ship's a lot of years, and it really is.
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. First thing is how do
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: you get Doctor Dre in the studio? Doctor Dre? Get
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: you in the studio, you dude, that's the key. And
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: as soon as Doctor Dre you know, shoots out that
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: bat signal, we all gonna come immediately. He's ready him
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: Snoopy Gotti, dass rage rb xom boom fifty yep, immediately game.
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, Doctor Dre has such an arsenal.
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: His tree is crazy stupid and everybody would be right there.
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: Kendrick yep, well listen man, correct, I appreciate the sit down. Yes, sir,
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: you're a legend. I mean, you are the man. When
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: I first moved to l A, I ran into you
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: at Hooters across the street from Staples Center, and I
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: was like, this is a good day I was doing.
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: That was my my, my, my years of when I
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: was indulging in some good old fashioned patron Yes, you
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: were drunk for sure. I had to leave all that corrupt.
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: I lave you to death. Kid, Thanks for having just
