- 2:14notes for all of the various other ways that you can support
- 2:18midgard, musings as a channel, and, as a brand, and, as well as
- 2:21this this podcast, so I've got another listener request or
- 2:27listener. Yeah it's a it was a question
- 2:32that was posed you know directly to me via an email that email if
- 2:38you ever got. If you guys ever want to write
- 2:41into the podcast show, it is a midgard musings Tian at
- 2:46gmail.com and this this was, you know, It was like a two-parter,
- 2:53you know, one was questions about Rune book or Rune books.
- 2:59And then the second question has to do with some interesting
- 3:02topic that I think a lot of us can relate to and that is the
- 3:05topic of tattoos specifically. When we have tattoos that may
- 3:13show our, you know, connection or potential possible Devotion
- 3:17to another religion talking like, you know, religious art,
- 3:20that sort of thing. But this, this fellow wrote in
- 3:24specifically asking about something that has also meaning
- 3:27to him in his close family. So the question wasn't
- 3:32necessarily positioned as intended to be a podcast episode
- 3:36but I did respond back to him and I said, hey if it's cool
- 3:38with you I'd like to include your question on a future
- 3:42podcast episode and that's where we are today.
- 3:44We're going to have dingo who was on last week's episode and
- 3:47you guys should be familiar with him by now.
- 3:49He's a tribe's. Goethe And we just came back
- 3:54from a camping event this past weekend.
- 3:57So me and our last speaker, Patrick, we're out on, on some
- 4:03family lands in Tennessee and little bit south of Columbia.
- 4:08And so he's gonna be joining us again today to talk about this
- 4:11particular topic. And, you know, see what else,
- 4:14and what, other things that we got going on.
- 4:17So I think that that sounds about like the time For us to
- 4:22just go ahead and bring the dingo release the dingo.
- 4:29Unleash, unleash the dingo, released, the dingo.
- 4:33So anyway, this is another random even bramley's podcast.
- 4:36My name is Jessie and midgard, musings production.
- 4:39Let's give a big warm, welcome to bingo.
- 4:42All right. Yeah welcome back to the show my
- 4:47man my brother dingo. Welcome back to yet another fun
- 4:51and exciting random even ramblings episode.
- 4:55So good to have you back here. Oh yeah always we hear we I was
- 5:01telling everybody before you came on about the camping thing
- 5:05that we did, which is I've been talking about Seeger, bloke,
- 5:08coming up, which I made a post on on the Facebook page.
- 5:11It was quite a long one. It was one of those you know,
- 5:13things that you know, the Twitter Friends don't allow you
- 5:17to say everything that you want to say.
- 5:19So if you guys are following me on Facebook and Instagram, you
- 5:22would have seen the post about sigur button some of the
- 5:24historical, you know, references to the holiday.
- 5:28It's actually one of the three recorded, you know, major bloats
- 5:34of the year that that we know of that we're held, you know, by
- 5:42Archie then's, you know, prior to the Christianization of of
- 5:46the regions and such and yeah, so we're doing that coming up in
- 5:50April but as we've done in the past, we typically like to get
- 5:55up to the property where we'll do our thing.
- 5:58And of course, prepare would make sure that everything's, you
- 6:01know, in order as it were you no, no major.
- 6:04Like trees were blown down across the circle or cross the
- 6:08creek or anything major that we have to do, which fortunately,
- 6:11it was, it was all in really good condition.
- 6:16If anything there was a lot of Deadfall.
- 6:18That was a wave but not too far away.
- 6:22Yeah. So you know, we go up into the
- 6:24woods and we I like this little tradition that we've
- 6:28established, you know, it's like That that line from Step
- 6:33Brothers, were there in the Dale?
- 6:35And Brennan are in their bedroom making bunk beds and then do I
- 6:38hear a drill? No Dale, no power tools.
- 6:42You know, we don't bring any power tools out there to procure
- 6:46the the resources. You know, I mean it's all hand
- 6:49saws and axes and the art Brut my back and shoulders are living
- 6:54proof. And currently still, are you
- 6:58still sore? Just a touch.
- 7:01But Yesterday was rough at work. Now I will say that.
- 7:05Yeah, but I was like my legs from cuz like, we also took a
- 7:16little hike up the ridge, with, with you up with Kai and
- 7:20Patrick. Yeah, thank you Kai.
- 7:22Yeah, that was no man. Like the next day she was all,
- 7:25you know, let's let's go in another hike and I'm like, no,
- 7:29no, I will not I can't even I thought it would be fun.
- 7:32I'm like my body's like the hell, you will.
- 7:35Yeah. All I could do just to tear down
- 7:38my tent and and and pack everything up.
- 7:41And yeah, yeah that's what I explained to her as like that.
- 7:43Let's let's tear down Camp first and then figure out.
- 7:48Yeah. And then like I think I think
- 7:52when I got back to the house on Sunday, I was in bed by like
- 7:57nine little after 9:00 and I pretty much slept all the way
- 8:02through the night and didn't wake up until my alarm went off
- 8:06at like 7:00 the next morning I was like zonked out just in it
- 8:11so it's a good a good like pre ritual ritual you know just
- 8:16getting on the land and doing all of the work and I don't know
- 8:20I think we talked about it last week where you know, ritual
- 8:25options, where it's like we we talked about The the event
- 8:31itself, the ritual itself is almost just like the ceremonial
- 8:35parts of it. You know, we get into that
- 8:38ritual frame of mind that ritual State of Mind even prior to The
- 8:43day of or the event, you know, because we're up there
- 8:47interacting with the land and reacquainting ourselves with the
- 8:51VT R and doing all the things, you know.
- 8:56Yeah. So yeah, it was a journey ends
- 9:00up being the most important part many times.
- 9:03Yeah. Which I, I like that, you know,
- 9:06and I like that, we get to share that sort of thing, here, for
- 9:08everybody that's listening and watching because I think a lot
- 9:13Of where people can get hung up on is what do I do for the
- 9:16ritual? You know and while that is to be
- 9:23considered and there's there's an important aspect to that.
- 9:27I think it's of equal or more perhaps more importance to you
- 9:34know set your path and and like put the coordinates in the GPS
- 9:38and figure out the journey there before you get there.
- 9:40And that's, that's where you're going to get.
- 9:43Most of the benefit from things is like, you say the journey,
- 9:47you know, I know what you're going to run into Dad.
- 9:51Yeah, sure. Absolutely.
- 9:53And it's, you know, both physically and metaphysically, I
- 9:56think, you know, There's just so much that can happen in the
- 10:02world and spaces around us, but we did get a chance to, you
- 10:07know, have a good fire and we have some really awesome food.
- 10:11You know we cooked and that's that's an itself you know we've
- 10:14talked maybe not in this was it on the podcast we had Wyatt or
- 10:18was it was on one of his live streams or something white
- 10:21Coverdale he's been on the show a few times we were talking
- 10:25about like the definitions of magic and I think either you or
- 10:29me or Somebody had brought up like, you know cooking you know
- 10:33yeah in the kitchen is a form of magic because, you know your
- 10:37your intent is to put all these ingredients together into a pot,
- 10:41a cauldron, or whatever. The pan, however, you want to
- 10:44write and your intent is to make something delicious, and make
- 10:48something edible, and for the purpose of feeding yourself, and
- 10:52your family, or your people, and so in an in that sort of way,
- 10:55there's there's some magic involved because, you know, you
- 10:58might, you might Overcook. Something, there's, there's some
- 11:00calculations that need to be taken into consideration with
- 11:03all that you're doing. So, there's like the very
- 11:05literal of alchemy, right. It's it's definitely a chemical
- 11:11process, it's very, you know. And it's like a kitchen, it runs
- 11:18like a lab, the same kind of procedures you have recipes.
- 11:22So this week you have procedures.
- 11:24Yeah. Ways that certain tests are
- 11:26runways. As certain dishes are cooked and
- 11:29you follow that and suit and there you go.
- 11:34Everybody has their place on prep or line or whatever, you
- 11:39know. Yeah.
- 11:41You know and the that that also touches each has on the whole
- 11:45ritual prior like the pre ritual ritual, you know, like we're
- 11:48doing more magic work without even really calling it that by
- 11:53starting a fire and you know, cooking food and setting up camp
- 11:58and doing all these various things that are You know,
- 12:01survival is type stuff. I mean I'm not trying to like
- 12:04everyone has a hand in building the fire.
- 12:06Everyone has a hand in setting up camp.
- 12:08Everyone has a hand in the pot. Yeah, of Stew.
- 12:13Yep, I remember that to me because I was like, Bingo, me.
- 12:17And you like we cut up the we prepped you know like you did
- 12:20most of the prep and I added some ingredients and then we
- 12:22carried everything out there and Patrick was there and like
- 12:24Patrick you need to here's the spoon or no here's the jug you
- 12:27know you add the water you do this you are.
- 12:29Everybody has their you know ya hands in it and stuff and so you
- 12:34know there's that it's a beautiful thing and you know
- 12:37it's where my mind was that this whole time, you know it was
- 12:40thinking about the event coming up and thinking about what it
- 12:43means you know celebrating victories, you know and I feel
- 12:49like, you know, so much of just having this kind of a of an
- 12:53extended family unit is a victory to be celebrated because
- 12:58No, so not a lot of people get along well enough to want to
- 13:01hang out like that. You know what I mean?
- 13:03And it's, it's kind of one of those rare and beautiful things
- 13:06that should be celebrated, and I feel should, you know, his a
- 13:09victory especially in now nowadays where everything is so
- 13:12surface-level superficial, you know, when there's a lot of Does
- 13:21it live? A lot of chaos.
- 13:23So, miscommunication dysfunction these days.
- 13:29Clashing, you know, it's all about the black and white and if
- 13:34everybody puts their hand in the pot, it's all gray, you know?
- 13:39And that's where life really is. I think it's not so much this or
- 13:45that or Good or evil and nor, you know, whatever US versus
- 13:51them. Yeah it has to be that way.
- 13:54I feel like, you know, and that's a great point that you
- 13:56bring up because this is this wasn't even the topic of today's
- 14:00podcast which we'll get into in just a minute.
- 14:02We're just a little bit but it's an interesting point to bring
- 14:04up. You know if if all of the hands
- 14:07aren't in the pot together then there can't be that symbiotic
- 14:12relationship that that happens, you know because again it's like
- 14:16oh ones inside and one. Outside.
- 14:19You know, so you've got those forces on the outside clashing,
- 14:23with what's going on in there and because they're not part of
- 14:26it, because those forces aren't part of it.
- 14:28There's there's like you saying this.
- 14:30This misunderstanding, this confusion is this, you know,
- 14:33chaos that takes place and it's like, hey, you know, take the
- 14:36time you take a moment and get your hands in the pot a bit and
- 14:41learn the ways and maybe, you know, nobody knows No One's
- 14:46Gonna bite you in there, maybe a little nibble here and there.
- 14:49You know I'm saying like it's not something damaging so well
- 14:52in not even with you know spiritual practices or but just
- 14:58internally that in the literal Solutions and emotional
- 15:02situations and things like that, you know like there tends to be
- 15:07this US versus them mentality but yeah I don't think there's
- 15:11enough time focused on defining what us or them is.
- 15:19And if everyone has their hand in the pot, that's us.
- 15:24That's your people that everyone has made themselves involved.
- 15:31and, you know, We're all family. We can we can work through this
- 15:36if you come to that kind of understanding, you have to
- 15:40approach it and that way you have to be willing and wanting
- 15:43to even get your hands in the pot.
- 15:46Yeah. You can't force somebody to put
- 15:47their hands in there and you can't make somebody think some
- 15:51way or another that they're not willing or wanting to think.
- 15:53But again it's like well this isn't gonna this machine's not
- 15:56going to function. This family is not going to
- 15:58thrive if we're at, you know, up opposing ends of each other and
- 16:02that's just that's A rule of thumb I think for just about
- 16:05anything, you know? So which kind of is a nice segue
- 16:12into the actual topic. So right money that that came
- 16:16up, you know? And then the way that it did, so
- 16:18we mentioned in the end, you know, before you came on that
- 16:21fellow wrote into this to the podcast actually just wrote an
- 16:24email to me and his initial question.
- 16:27You know, is like a two-parter and he was asking about, you
- 16:29know, some Rune book resources and he Was saying he has a room
- 16:34booked by Lisa Chamberlin which I think I've read.
- 16:37It's runes for beginners. It's alright.
- 16:39It's you know it's a lot of the books that you find nowadays are
- 16:43going to have a lot of, you know, new a g-type undertones,
- 16:48you know what I'm saying? So, I gave him some
- 16:50recommendations of. Definitely like James book, Jam
- 16:54aalesunds book which he has. I I'll put it in the description
- 16:59in the show notes just cuz I can't remember, I know what's on
- 17:01Amazon. I just don't remember the name
- 17:03of it off. And he wrote a great book for
- 17:07learning the runes. And, you know, so for those that
- 17:11are interested in wanting to get something that I would recommend
- 17:15knowing that it's, you know, from a good source and there's
- 17:17that but the main body of his of his email and this is from
- 17:21Brandon, by the way, I'll keep his last name, unanimous
- 17:25Anonymous, not unanimous Anonymous.
- 17:29And if any way Brandon past about, He's wondering if he
- 17:35should keep a tattoo. He says it's a cross with his
- 17:39grandfather's birth date and death date.
- 17:42So it's like a memorial piece. I'm assuming he says he got it
- 17:46before. He started his journey, down
- 17:48this path of heathen, re I'm assuming or paganism of sorts
- 17:52and currently see it as a way to honor him, since he was
- 17:56practically his father while he was alive.
- 18:00While, you know, Brandon's grandfather was like his father
- 18:04I feel like I shouldn't care about what others think about it
- 18:08since that's how I venerate him but I'm someone who when you
- 18:13give me Flack about family I don't necessarily respond
- 18:17nicely. Do you think I should get it
- 18:19covered up and find a new design for it?
- 18:22Or do you think I should just try finding a way to turn that
- 18:27negative reaction into something positive?
- 18:30And that's where his what his question was.
- 18:32So, I gave him a short response, but I asked him said, you know
- 18:35this, I think this would be something great to talk about
- 18:37because a lot of us, I mean, we got tattoos, you know, and some
- 18:41of our tattoos maybe were put on us for prior to starting our
- 18:47path and either e or maybe, you know, we we put something on
- 18:49ourselves that is now, you know, a permanent Mark prior to a
- 18:56pagan path or whatever. But yeah, I mean so I felt like
- 18:58it would be a neat topic just to kind of Go over and I already
- 19:01know, right? Like yours and my like we've
- 19:03talked about this thing. Go about the response and you
- 19:06know, nothing really too heavy to elaborate on it.
- 19:09But you know, your response then guy me, I sent him my initial
- 19:14response and I can elaborate on it.
- 19:16But with what he's asking about, you know, should I cover it up
- 19:20or should I just leave it and try to find a, you know, turn
- 19:23the negative into something positive, which I don't know
- 19:26what the negativities he's talking about you cover it up.
- 19:30Not, you are honoring your grandfather with that?
- 19:37Yeah. And It would be a disgrace to
- 19:41him if you were to cover it up. Like period, he got you to where
- 19:49you are. He is especially since he helped
- 19:52raise you. A big part of that, you should
- 19:57absolutely honor him in that manner.
- 20:03It did that tattoo is not about you, it's about him and so
- 20:10absolutely keep it. If anyone says otherwise I mean
- 20:16that's kind of their problem about, you know, I'll speak for
- 20:25As a Norse Pagan that. You can have them talk to me if
- 20:31they have a problem with that, you know, like nah, man, like
- 20:37that. Absolutely keep that.
- 20:39That's part of who you are as part of your family, you know,
- 20:42you're doing something different and that's okay.
- 20:46That's perfectly, okay. And you said something along the
- 20:50lines of, you know, he says, when someone gives them Flack
- 20:53about his family, I don't respond.
- 20:55I don't necessarily respond nicely.
- 20:58You know, there's there's decisions that we can make those
- 21:02choices that we can make, and I think that you're that, you're
- 21:05that you're the defense that you have or the, or the love and the
- 21:09respect and the honor that you have for your family, as, as
- 21:12being something. So, Fierce is something I think
- 21:16there should be commended. You know, it's just a matter of
- 21:19the choices that we make on how we act on certain things.
- 21:23You know, like, is it, is it worth no knocking someone's
- 21:26skull through just because they say something sideways.
- 21:30Probably not, not in today's society, you know what I mean?
- 21:32Back in the day, you know, you talked funky to somebody, then
- 21:35it was like, okay, I'll meet you out here and we're going to duel
- 21:37to the death and then whoever wins I own your land and you
- 21:40won't mind and all this, we're not in those days anymore, you
- 21:42know what I'm saying? So right, but, you know
- 21:46defending your family's honor. Evans honor.
- 21:48Like sure. I think there's a place for that
- 21:50but just within, you know, within a reason and you know, so
- 21:57what kind of flack would you possibly get for keeping a
- 22:01tattoo? That is a memorial tattoo of
- 22:04your grandfather. So what that it's a cross, you
- 22:07know, and in light of that and in thinking about that, you
- 22:13know, sure it's a symbol of Christianity, but It's widely
- 22:19accepted, right? That even the pagans, who
- 22:23converted to Christianity, still kept their Pagan beliefs
- 22:27secretly while, you know, getting baptized into
- 22:31Christianity and accepting the new religion of the one true God
- 22:35and all this other kind of stuff, you know.
- 22:36So they probably had, you know, things on there as well.
- 22:39Look at the the Celtic cross with the circle you know like oh
- 22:44yeah it's Christian but we still have Hands there.
- 22:49Yeah. Looks very much like the sun
- 22:51wheel you know? And yeah and that's the sun
- 22:53wheel. The henge is the sun wheel.
- 22:55Yeah. So look at you know you can
- 22:59almost look at it that way if you had to or wanted to try to
- 23:01you know, explain anything to anybody.
- 23:04It's you know, that's on you. But I don't think that there's,
- 23:07I fully 100% agree with you, then go write that the, you
- 23:10know, the tattoo of that, that's going to be something that you
- 23:14remember your departed, family by, Doesn't matter what the
- 23:20symbol is, right? Shouldn't matter, you know, so
- 23:25there's a way to turn a negative, a negative reaction
- 23:29into something. Positive is you know, may be
- 23:31thinking along those lines. You know, it's not about the
- 23:34symbol, it's about him and right remembering when his date of
- 23:39birth and remembering his day of death and that you know, he
- 23:43helped shape you into the man that you are now and that you
- 23:45don't ever want to forget that. And that's the Operation, that's
- 23:48the memorial piece. So we, you know, and I have, I
- 23:53guess, you know, ancestors is very important.
- 23:55You know, whether whether they were, when they were terrible or
- 24:00good, they got you to where you are and your ancestors.
- 24:07I mean, even your parents You know, like they either gave you
- 24:12a good example or a bad example. And what you do with that is the
- 24:16important thing. You learn what to do or what not
- 24:20to do. But either way, it's an
- 24:24influence. Right, it's in your blood, it's
- 24:28the or log on thing. You have to deal with you
- 24:31regardless. Whether it be from the
- 24:33community, whether it be from genetic, things, handed down,
- 24:40and psychological disorders, or even something as simple as
- 24:45heart disease, or diabetes, or whatever you have to deal with,
- 24:50what has been handed to you. Period.
- 24:55But it could be, you could take that.
- 24:59You know your asshole great-grandpappy that, you know
- 25:04beat the hell out of his slaves and crap.
- 25:06You can take that and like I don't I don't like that.
- 25:10I don't want to be that screw him.
- 25:13That's just as important saying screw that is just as important
- 25:17as the other you know, but regardless you have to deal with
- 25:23it. Yeah, it's like it goes back to
- 25:26or log, you know order lay however you want to pronounce.
- 25:29it's the layers are there no matter what, and You know,
- 25:34feeding that part of the well and adding to those things, you
- 25:38know, you can either lay layers on top of the muck that
- 25:42eventually just cover that negativity over and you build
- 25:47stronger or log and you and you've done things to kind of
- 25:51counter act, the bad things or you know and some people just
- 25:57get a lot more dirt in the well to deal with than others, you
- 26:01know. And that's all.
- 26:04No, that's all dependent on decisions and choices like we
- 26:09talked about a moment ago, you know, the choices that you make,
- 26:12its, you know, that choice to respond negatively to somebody
- 26:17or not nicely to someone. That's giving you flak about the
- 26:20mean that's laying a layer down in the well, man.
- 26:22Like, that's that, that becomes or log, because, right?
- 26:25That's going to be something that depending on the situation,
- 26:29you know, other people are going to be witness to and may be
- 26:32impacted by And it's like this domino effect of a series of
- 26:38events that can take place to either strengthen or deteriorate
- 26:43your or log. It's all going in there, it's
- 26:46all going in there, so it's about the choices we make.
- 26:49But I appreciate that, you know, because I mean I've had I've
- 26:53had, you know, tattoos that I've gotten from when I was, you
- 26:57know, in other relationships that I've had covered up because
- 27:03The meaning behind it was not something I wanted to be
- 27:07reminded of constantly, by looking at it.
- 27:09You know what I'm saying? And that is why I feel like
- 27:13covering things up or restructuring a design, or
- 27:16whatever is has its place, but for this application, if you
- 27:20know your grandfather, Brandon is the kind of man that was like
- 27:24a father to you then I hope that it's a place that's always
- 27:28visible. You know what I mean?
- 27:29Like I hope it's not and if it is it is what it is but I hope
- 27:33It's like somewhere that everybody can see and that you
- 27:35know you always have that constant reminder you look down
- 27:38at your armor you you know whatever and it's like a
- 27:41constant reminder for you. Yeah about him being there for
- 27:46you and making you the man that you are today or helping shape
- 27:48you into the man you are today. You know, some things don't need
- 27:51to be forgotten and this is one of them.
