- 0:17Speaker 1: The Journay Glory Podcast, September twenty ninth, thunder Sarberniki, Austin Rose,
- 0:24Speaker 1: Dakota Free Tag. It's no longer bye week, it's Michigan
- 0:29Speaker 1: State Week. But I think it's a good time to
- 0:33Speaker 1: check in and see how everybody's doing. This morning, we
- 0:36Speaker 1: got we gotta do that first. Austin said, I haven't.
- 0:39Speaker 1: I don't do that anymore, and he's probably right. Dak
- 0:42Speaker 1: how are you doing great?
- 0:44Speaker 2: Couldn't be better?
- 0:48Speaker 3: Now?
- 0:48Speaker 2: Just kidding. I had a terrible football day yesterday. Vikings
- 0:52Speaker 2: looked like absolute crap, I like always. But other than that, and.
- 0:57Speaker 1: There's more, there's more than other than that.
- 0:59Speaker 3: You also.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Lost a lot of money.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yep on the Ryder Cup and the Vikings.
- 1:09Speaker 3: So yeah, not a good sung Who'd you put money
- 1:12Speaker 3: on the Ryder Cup Team USA?
- 1:14Speaker 2: USA?
- 1:15Speaker 3: What we told you said?
- 1:18Speaker 1: I can't American for putting money.
- 1:22Speaker 3: Out in Europe.
- 1:23Speaker 1: But he actually did wait until after day one and
- 1:26Speaker 1: we were down, so he got some better odds and
- 1:28Speaker 1: didn't watch the Ryder Cup yesterday. We have some life
- 1:32Speaker 1: there at the end and it was kind of fun,
- 1:36Speaker 1: but weren't able to pull it out. Did did keep
- 1:39Speaker 1: it pretty close.
- 1:40Speaker 3: But yeah, roday, I'm good. A fantasy football teach sucks
- 1:52Speaker 3: this year. We just can't put it all together.
- 1:55Speaker 2: I have.
- 1:56Speaker 3: I have a real deep team, but my top talent
- 1:58Speaker 3: is enough, and so that maybe, yes, a little frustrating.
- 2:01Speaker 1: I think for the first time, I have a lot
- 2:06Speaker 1: of teams. I think I have like six or seven
- 2:08Speaker 1: fantasy teams that, like, all my teams are doing pretty
- 2:11Speaker 1: damn good. Like normally you can't do that because if
- 2:15Speaker 1: you have people on one team, then you play against
- 2:18Speaker 1: them on the other team, and so it's kind of
- 2:20Speaker 1: a balance. I actually have a lot of pretty decent
- 2:21Speaker 1: teams this year, which we'll see if it holds up.
- 2:23Speaker 2: But I was just.
- 2:28Speaker 3: I'm pretty good.
- 2:29Speaker 2: You know.
- 2:29Speaker 3: In my league, one hundred and twenty points usually get
- 2:32Speaker 3: you a win, and I've been putting up like one
- 2:33Speaker 3: hundred and fifteen to one hundred and eighteen every week,
- 2:35Speaker 3: and I've just been on the other end of you know,
- 2:39Speaker 3: this week, I was on the other end of Ashton
- 2:41Speaker 3: Genti's you know, forty point game.
- 2:46Speaker 1: I will say one thing that we've done in a
- 2:48Speaker 1: couple of our leagues that if you don't know what
- 2:52Speaker 1: it is, called the Median League where every week you're
- 2:56Speaker 1: playing for two points, so you're playing your matchup and
- 3:00Speaker 1: you're also playing to basically be in the top half
- 3:02Speaker 1: of everybody's score. So if you're in the top half,
- 3:04Speaker 1: you get a win as well. So that kind of helps.
- 3:07Speaker 1: If you are playing someone that's has a really good week,
- 3:11Speaker 1: you still at least go one in one. You don't
- 3:13Speaker 1: get no credit for having a decent week yourself. So
- 3:16Speaker 1: I kind of like that if any recommendation to any
- 3:19Speaker 1: fantasy people out.
- 3:20Speaker 2: There, Yeah, it really evens it out.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Well, Dek, you're usually on the lower half of the
- 3:27Speaker 1: median So.
- 3:29Speaker 2: What do you mean, boys in the championship game?
- 3:31Speaker 1: Not this week?
- 3:32Speaker 2: No ballut this week?
- 3:36Speaker 1: Well, it's Michigan State week and we're going to talk
- 3:39Speaker 1: a lot more Michigan State later on in the week.
- 3:41Speaker 1: We do want to go through the Big Ten here.
- 3:44Speaker 1: We haven't talked a whole lot about the conference as
- 3:47Speaker 1: we're a couple of games in here, ranking a lot
- 3:51Speaker 1: of these teams, kind of see where everybody's at and
- 3:53Speaker 1: where Nebraska kind of fits in there.
- 3:55Speaker 3: I think.
- 3:57Speaker 1: We talked about the tiers and maybe where what here
- 4:02Speaker 1: Nebraska fits in. While after losing to Michigan. We'll see
- 4:06Speaker 1: if that impacts I guess where we have everybody. So
- 4:10Speaker 1: that's what we're gonna do here at the top, and
- 4:11Speaker 1: then we have some some good mail bag questions and
- 4:14Speaker 1: some good topics of conversation that we'll have here towards
- 4:19Speaker 1: the end of the episode. So I think to start
- 4:23Speaker 1: the eighteen team Big Ten rankings, there was a battle
- 4:30Speaker 1: of the bottom in my mind or close to the
- 4:32Speaker 1: bottom this last week that one proved to be better
- 4:36Speaker 1: than the.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Other barely.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Unless anybody has a different team. But do we have
- 4:45Speaker 1: UCLA at the bottom or we're yep.
- 4:49Speaker 3: I didn't even type it on my list because it
- 4:51Speaker 3: was at the bottom. I was like, I'm not you know,
- 4:53Speaker 3: that one's just there. We're not even going to talk
- 4:55Speaker 3: about it.
- 4:57Speaker 2: They might be in the bottom of college football around.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Yeah, And what's interesting is that's not the team. They
- 5:03Speaker 1: weren't down there to start the year. I mean, honestly,
- 5:05Speaker 1: weren't towards the top. But they're kind of a more
- 5:09Speaker 1: surprise bottom team to Sean Foster obviously getting fired already Niko, Yeah,
- 5:15Speaker 1: Mavalaya is not very good.
- 5:19Speaker 3: The biggest nil deal bubble ever.
- 5:22Speaker 2: It's arch remaining.
- 5:25Speaker 3: So eighteen, you seel like, do we have at seventeen?
- 5:28Speaker 2: Who do any debate here? I put I put Wisconsin.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Interesting, Okay, I had Northwestern. Okay, I don't really know
- 5:45Speaker 3: if I can justify Wisconsin being worse than Northwestern.
- 5:52Speaker 1: I think I'm putting Northwestern there too. I still have
- 5:56Speaker 1: a little bit of hope for Wisconsin. I actually have
- 5:59Speaker 1: Wisconsin a little to higher, but not much.
- 6:03Speaker 2: I mean, is is there anybody on a hotter seat
- 6:04Speaker 2: in Pickle right now? No?
- 6:09Speaker 3: Yeah, he's probably not. Schools go Maybe who's the coach
- 6:15Speaker 3: in Florida?
- 6:18Speaker 2: Yeah, Napier, Maybe he might have a hotter seat.
- 6:20Speaker 1: But I don't think Wisconsin's very good either, I guess
- 6:26Speaker 1: I I thought, maybe they're still better than this bottom tier,
- 6:30Speaker 1: but then Maryland proved that.
- 6:33Speaker 3: There.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Maybe Maryland's better than that. Maryland's not in the bottom
- 6:37Speaker 1: tier for me anymore, for sure. But I guess the
- 6:41Speaker 1: other one that you could throw out here right now
- 6:43Speaker 1: is Purdue. I don't know where you guys have Purdue.
- 6:48Speaker 3: I I actually have, so I'm with I had Wisconsin
- 6:53Speaker 3: and then Purdue, so I had would think a Wisconsin
- 6:57Speaker 3: has the third worst, And then I had Purdue above Wisconsin.
- 6:59Speaker 3: But that's also because I haven't watched a lick up Purdue,
- 7:03Speaker 3: and I was like, I don't know, I've seen Wisconsin
- 7:05Speaker 3: look bad this year.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I haven't watched much Purdue either. I know they
- 7:11Speaker 1: kind of stayed within twenty against UFC for what that's worth. Yeah,
- 7:18Speaker 1: I mean, we to debate it, but where do you
- 7:21Speaker 1: have Purdue at Dak?
- 7:22Speaker 2: Same, same smile. I went from a bottom e CLA Wisconsin,
- 7:27Speaker 2: Northwestern Purdue.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Okay, so we have those kind of four bottom I agree.
- 7:30Speaker 1: I mean, I think I Wisconsin fifteen, but let's move.
- 7:34Speaker 1: I don't know if that's a tier, but I think
- 7:36Speaker 1: that's pretty close.
- 7:37Speaker 3: To a tier.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Yeah, a couple of teams that he just think Wisconsin.
- 7:43Speaker 1: You didn't think I would be in there, but they are.
- 7:45Speaker 3: They are.
- 7:46Speaker 2: We just called that trash here.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Sure Dak will call that the trash tire right above
- 7:54Speaker 1: them where we at fourteen.
- 7:58Speaker 3: So honestly, this next patch was a little tougher of ordering.
- 8:02Speaker 1: I agree.
- 8:03Speaker 3: I had Rutgers there I think could be better than that.
- 8:07Speaker 3: But your Rutgers, Maryland, Minnesota, Michigan state kind of group
- 8:15Speaker 3: any order. They're all decent, but they're not terrible.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Actually, I also had Rutgers there. I that's only because
- 8:26Speaker 2: Minnesota beat them. But I think, yeah, Minnesota, wreckers, Iowa even,
- 8:34Speaker 2: they're about all the same. Mike, you played ten times.
- 8:39Speaker 2: I think it's gonna be five different results. I have.
- 8:43Speaker 3: See.
- 8:43Speaker 1: My tear is pretty big here. As far as how
- 8:47Speaker 1: high we go, I won't say who's all included. These
- 8:49Speaker 1: teams you're all talking about are in there. If you have,
- 8:52Speaker 1: I got to throw on there. Gosh, I don't know.
- 8:58Speaker 1: I'm probably throwing Michigan State there. Oh really, Okay, if
- 9:02Speaker 1: I if I right now had to say, you know who,
- 9:08Speaker 1: who's on Michigan State, Rutgers, who's winning neutral field of
- 9:11Speaker 1: right taking Ruggers? I don't know, but that's how my
- 9:16Speaker 1: brain's working right now. But I'll probably throw them there,
- 9:22Speaker 1: and then at thirteen I'm probably gonna throw I'll probably
- 9:29Speaker 1: throw Maryland still, Okay. I I think Maryland's decent and
- 9:35Speaker 1: some people have them a lot. I think they're your
- 9:37Speaker 1: receiving votes. Maybe I don't know they're they're obviously looking. Okay,
- 9:42Speaker 1: we're going to figure out in a couple of weeks
- 9:44Speaker 1: when we go out to College Park.
- 9:48Speaker 2: But definitely, definitely more worried about that Maryland game than
- 9:52Speaker 2: you were coming in the year.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, I had Rutgers and then Michigan. You gotta
- 10:02Speaker 1: gotta work you gotta work on that dollar. You gotta
- 10:05Speaker 1: work on that dollar. You said. Then then then you're
- 10:08Speaker 1: then you were going into the year. You gotta you
- 10:10Speaker 1: gotta work on that.
- 10:12Speaker 2: I was talking about you personally, I gotta work on that.
- 10:19Speaker 2: You're Michigan next, Austin.
- 10:22Speaker 3: Michigan State. Okay, I think I had records Michigan State
- 10:25Speaker 3: and then Minnesota and Maryland and Maryland higher than a
- 10:29Speaker 3: couple further up for me.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I went, I went Minnesota and Michigan State, Maryland.
- 10:35Speaker 1: So from bottom to top or top to bottom, bottom
- 10:41Speaker 1: the top, you're not high in Minnesota.
- 10:45Speaker 2: No, not really. I think I mean, they beat Rutgers,
- 10:48Speaker 2: but I just I don't think they're that good of
- 10:53Speaker 2: a team.
- 10:55Speaker 3: I assume we're all baking in that there's Nebraska bias,
- 10:58Speaker 3: that we probably have ourselves higher than we should be.
- 11:01Speaker 1: I I don't. Here's here's where I'm kind to ask. So,
- 11:05Speaker 1: I I mean I took I have Michigan State than Ruggers,
- 11:10Speaker 1: and then this is or sorry, I had Maryland in
- 11:15Speaker 1: there too, So Ruggers is who I have at twelve.
- 11:20Speaker 1: I have Maryland at thirteen, Ruggers at twelve, and then
- 11:24Speaker 1: I'm putting us at eleven.
- 11:26Speaker 3: Okay, wow, I I.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Maybe it's a little bit of just historical performance to
- 11:35Speaker 1: where I kind of think that until someone does something
- 11:38Speaker 1: extreme like Wisconsin, U c l a poorly or really
- 11:43Speaker 1: really good the other way Illinois, I don't all these
- 11:49Speaker 1: teams your your, iowas, your Minnesota is your. We just
- 11:53Speaker 1: we don't beat them and they haven't done anything. We
- 11:57Speaker 1: haven't done anything to say we're better than them, and
- 12:00Speaker 1: I mean I think we could be, but especially the
- 12:04Speaker 1: lack of line play right now, I'm just like, well,
- 12:06Speaker 1: I think this is where we sit. I think we
- 12:07Speaker 1: sit right here at eleven right now, and we play
- 12:11Speaker 1: a lot of these teams that are below us, which
- 12:12Speaker 1: is nice, but we are going to get a play
- 12:17Speaker 1: some of these teams coming up here.
- 12:18Speaker 3: So I have US at eleven, Okay, I I mean
- 12:24Speaker 3: number of my list, but I definitely not. I was
- 12:27Speaker 3: higher than eleven because I had, you know, so I
- 12:33Speaker 3: had a like Michigan State, Rutgers, Minnesota, Maryland, and then
- 12:38Speaker 3: I had Illinois and then Nebraska.
- 12:40Speaker 1: Oh you of Illinois, Okay, I don't think.
- 12:43Speaker 3: Illinois is that good. I think we're on the same
- 12:47Speaker 3: time with this. I think us in Illinois where we
- 12:50Speaker 3: could it probably like last year, we almost beat them
- 12:52Speaker 3: until we've pissed it away. I think it'd be the
- 12:55Speaker 3: exact same story this year where we we would win
- 12:58Speaker 3: against Illinois.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Though could be wrong, but I'm gonna get I'm gonna
- 13:05Speaker 1: get myself to eight because that's where my tier kind
- 13:07Speaker 1: of cuts off. So I didn't Erasca eleven. I have
- 13:13Speaker 1: Washington at ten, I have Minnesota at nine, in Iowa eight, now.
- 13:26Speaker 3: My eight through.
- 13:29Speaker 1: And I'm probably am going to go all the way
- 13:31Speaker 1: down to fourteen. I think is a tier that's my
- 13:34Speaker 1: wider tier, all the way through Rutgers in Michigan State, Maryland.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Like I just think. I think all these teams right
- 13:40Speaker 1: now are are grouped together in my mind and you
- 13:44Speaker 1: can move them around a little bit. But I think
- 13:46Speaker 1: that's the tier that we sit in just based on
- 13:49Speaker 1: where we're at so far. Now we have the opportunity
- 13:51Speaker 1: to climb to the top and get out of this
- 13:54Speaker 1: tier because we play all of these teams in this
- 13:57Speaker 1: tier basically for the rest of the year.
- 14:00Speaker 2: So so I went, I'll do bottom of the top here.
- 14:07Speaker 2: After Maryland, I went to Iowa next.
- 14:10Speaker 3: Can you give them?
- 14:11Speaker 1: Can you give the numbers? That helps?
- 14:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I need a number out.
- 14:15Speaker 3: Then to.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Alight Iowa ten, USC nine, which there's no bias there
- 14:25Speaker 2: at all. I've always loved USC all right, And then
- 14:28Speaker 2: I have Washington, Illinois. I have Nebraska at six in
- 14:35Speaker 2: the Michigan above that.
- 14:37Speaker 3: Wow you have You're really freaking high in Nebraska. Okay, yeah, yeah,
- 14:42Speaker 3: I'm just gonna stop here and you're going to talk.
- 14:46Speaker 1: If you're gonna do this, you gotta talk. You gotta
- 14:48Speaker 1: explain yourself.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Why nebrassa number six? Just explain I think, Okay, getting
- 14:56Speaker 2: no bias, I do. I do not think ILLINOI is
- 14:59Speaker 2: that good after I mean, they beat USC, but whatever,
- 15:03Speaker 2: But that Indiana blowout that just drops them big time
- 15:08Speaker 2: down lower. Now Washington I did forget about and you
- 15:11Speaker 2: said them, so I think I probably should rank them
- 15:13Speaker 2: iron Nebraska's I just threw mom while you're talking. But
- 15:17Speaker 2: other than that, so and Iowa, Iowa really sucks this year.
- 15:23Speaker 2: I'm not big on your Nowski.
- 15:24Speaker 1: So we haven't beat I always looked at this every year.
- 15:27Speaker 2: We never beat Iowa, and you think, okay, but I
- 15:32Speaker 2: think the Brassic is actually better this year because you
- 15:33Speaker 2: have the quarterback. That's the main reason why I ranked
- 15:35Speaker 2: them so high. Okay, we have the quarterback. My bad
- 15:42Speaker 2: base base, I did it, basely, I did it. Who
- 15:44Speaker 2: has the best quarterback in this tier? And I'm gonna
- 15:46Speaker 2: say Nebraska. Now, I couldn't rank Michigan. I couldn't rank
- 15:49Speaker 2: the Nebraska higher in Michigan because they beat him.
- 15:51Speaker 1: But I need, I need, I need a mute button
- 15:56Speaker 1: for dacks. Every Timmy says they like the around the
- 15:59Speaker 1: horror and plan rp you and just he has to
- 16:02Speaker 1: be on.
- 16:03Speaker 3: Can we get Tony Reallie on here? That'd be wild.
- 16:07Speaker 3: He would be so disappointed. US just does animals. Okay,
- 16:14Speaker 3: So I guess yeah, we probably would have just had
- 16:16Speaker 3: this conversation and order of tiers instead of actual numerical rankings.
- 16:20Speaker 3: Because my I have a tier that it's USC, Nebraska, Illinois, Maryland.
- 16:26Speaker 3: Huh that's interesting because yeah, you guys.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Have like USC and Illinois and that tier. I mean
- 16:33Speaker 1: I I still have them to step up above us.
- 16:36Speaker 2: No, you guys don't. So no Michigan Tier, Austin, No, I.
- 16:40Speaker 3: Have it with Iowa, Washington and Michigan. I think those
- 16:42Speaker 3: teams are actually really good.
- 16:43Speaker 1: Iowa Washington. Okay, this is interesting. We have some like
- 16:48Speaker 1: a little bit of differences here.
- 16:50Speaker 3: It's also tough because I mean we're at the point
- 16:52Speaker 3: in the year where again we've only played four games
- 16:55Speaker 3: and two of them have mostly been cupcakes, so we
- 16:57Speaker 3: really were operating off of.
- 16:58Speaker 1: About two games and every but everybody, like the conference
- 17:02Speaker 1: is just getting started, right, so everybody's just starting to
- 17:04Speaker 1: play everybody. I mean, Illinois just beat USC, which I
- 17:09Speaker 1: would say those two teams are very comparable, yea, you know,
- 17:13Speaker 1: and they and they won on a last second field
- 17:14Speaker 1: goal there, So yeah, I I to me, those teams
- 17:19Speaker 1: are all a little bit slightly ahead of us, and
- 17:20Speaker 1: I would put like uc USC, Illinois, Michigan and A
- 17:27Speaker 1: tier together those three teams probably. And yeah, so Austin
- 17:32Speaker 1: like will throw Washington in there. He's throwing US and
- 17:35Speaker 1: Maryland kind of up there. Iowa is the one weird
- 17:39Speaker 1: team too. I think everybody is like all over the
- 17:43Speaker 1: place on because Dak's like the lowest the lows Austin's
- 17:45Speaker 1: pretty I'm like, I'm still like, they're still Iowa. I
- 17:48Speaker 1: this is Iowa team is no different than the teams
- 17:53Speaker 1: of the past. It is the exact same. And actually
- 17:54Speaker 1: maybe they're a little to Austin's argument, they're probably a
- 17:57Speaker 1: little more scared because they're actually trying to score points
- 18:00Speaker 1: this year in doing it.
- 18:03Speaker 3: They're not as good on defense as they've been in
- 18:04Speaker 3: the past, but they're still I mean, you know, Indiana
- 18:08Speaker 3: scored freaking one hundred and twenty points against Illinois the
- 18:11Speaker 3: week prior, and unless last week they held them to twenty. Granted,
- 18:15Speaker 3: Iowa can only score fifteen, which I don't even know how.
- 18:18Speaker 3: I don't even know how they scored fifteen because I
- 18:20Speaker 3: know they had a touchdown in there. They and they
- 18:23Speaker 3: almost I mean they're right there to win that game.
- 18:26Speaker 1: I mean, they missed the field goal, which they usually
- 18:28Speaker 1: don't do late, and then Indiana goes down to scores
- 18:31Speaker 1: to win the game.
- 18:34Speaker 3: So I I mean, I think does.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Everybody of Indiana at four yes, yep, okay, and I
- 18:40Speaker 1: think they're not.
- 18:41Speaker 2: I don't.
- 18:42Speaker 1: I would not put them in the tier right below that,
- 18:46Speaker 1: but I also wouldn't I'm not going to group them in.
- 18:49Speaker 3: They're kind of in their own tier. So I think
- 18:50Speaker 3: they're I mean them in Michigan is that they're you
- 18:54Speaker 3: gonna lump them together and that.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Yeah, if you want to throw Michigan in that lump,
- 18:57Speaker 1: you can probably I yeah, that's probably a good one.
- 19:02Speaker 1: I think if they played on a neutral side, I'd
- 19:04Speaker 1: struggle picking the winner and then top three. I think
- 19:10Speaker 1: we got a little bit of clarity this week with
- 19:14Speaker 1: Penn State in Oregon, but obviously very very good game overtime.
- 19:19Speaker 1: Penn State puts it overtime, and then Oregon got here
- 19:22Speaker 1: done in overtime. Ohio State or do you have them
- 19:25Speaker 1: amongst the three?
- 19:26Speaker 3: Though I have them too.
- 19:29Speaker 2: I had them to two.
- 19:31Speaker 3: I don't know if that's fair because I saw the
- 19:33Speaker 3: Oregon State or the Oregon Penn State game. In Ohio
- 19:37Speaker 3: State really, I mean, they beat Texas week one, but
- 19:39Speaker 3: they didn't live great doing it. I just if Penn State,
- 19:45Speaker 3: I just struggle whenever Penn State plays a really good team.
- 19:48Speaker 3: I'm not like, if it was Ohio State vers Penn State,
- 19:50Speaker 3: I'm gonna take Ohio State. And that was kind of
- 19:53Speaker 3: my justification.
- 19:56Speaker 2: I mean, I mean, I just went off who who's
- 19:59Speaker 2: right lost? I think all three of those teams are
- 20:01Speaker 2: very similar. In Oregon, I mean I think Oregon's the
- 20:06Speaker 2: best team. Yeah, really wow, I would take Oregon overho State.
- 20:16Speaker 1: I put a lot. I probably sounds like I'm a
- 20:19Speaker 1: little more probably put recency biased or past. But whether
- 20:25Speaker 1: that's right or wrong, I don't know. And they're now
- 20:27Speaker 1: their national chance, they've and they've they've held their own.
- 20:31Speaker 1: They have the you know, beating Texas early on. Now
- 20:34Speaker 1: they both have really good wins. But I think I'm
- 20:38Speaker 1: gonna take Ohio State in a in a neutral side
- 20:40Speaker 1: against Oregon still right now. Okay, although Dante Moore is
- 20:44Speaker 1: very good. That's first my first time watching him.
- 20:48Speaker 3: I was in the state. I mean, obviously not the
- 20:53Speaker 3: best game to reflect the quality of opponent, but I
- 20:56Speaker 3: was like, oh my gosh, Oregon is a machine.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, we don't have like a final defined
- 21:07Speaker 1: return to Glory podcast rankings, but I don't know if
- 21:11Speaker 1: we want to spend another half hour trying to figure
- 21:13Speaker 1: that out. But I think we do have some middle
- 21:15Speaker 1: tier differences here, but we maybe can do this again
- 21:20Speaker 1: here in a few weeks after we have some more
- 21:25Speaker 1: head to head games and see where teams play out.
- 21:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean we kind of all agree on tiers, though.
- 21:32Speaker 3: I think there's some some teams that jump around, but.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Some teams will figure out where they where they land,
- 21:38Speaker 1: Nebraska being one of them. I mean, I think I
- 21:40Speaker 1: think we're we're going to find out where we sent
- 21:43Speaker 1: to here in the next four games, where you know,
- 21:46Speaker 1: we're probably going to be favored in all of them,
- 21:48Speaker 1: and we'll see where.
- 21:50Speaker 3: We land.
- 21:53Speaker 2: In a few weeks. Big time favorites this week.
- 21:56Speaker 1: Yeah, that was it's ten and a half now, I
- 21:59Speaker 1: think is the lot line opened at eleven and a
- 22:01Speaker 1: half for Michigan State. Dak, we have some business to
- 22:05Speaker 1: talk here and the next topic you have already kind
- 22:11Speaker 1: of failed it a little bit, but signed a blood
- 22:15Speaker 1: oath this weekend I'm becoming a Nebraska fan. That will
- 22:20Speaker 1: be posted if it has not been already to social media.
- 22:23Speaker 1: You'll see the oath that Dak signed and he's already
- 22:28Speaker 1: get you know, you want to talk about Luke Fickle
- 22:29Speaker 1: being on the hot seed. I think Dak's starting to
- 22:31Speaker 1: get on the hot seed here for his performance so
- 22:34Speaker 1: far today on being a Husker fan. I think maybe
- 22:38Speaker 1: that's why he ranked Hiss at number six. He had
- 22:40Speaker 1: to like offset the fake fandom that he's trying to portray.
- 22:45Speaker 1: But Dak's an official Husker fan by blood as he's
- 22:50Speaker 1: sucking out of thumb because his finger prob hurts from
- 22:52Speaker 1: getting pricked.
- 22:54Speaker 2: Yeah, so I don't know if it'll be in the video,
- 22:57Speaker 2: but it took a while to prick my finger. I
- 23:00Speaker 2: was not doing well, so Hungress grabbed the tweezers and
- 23:02Speaker 2: stabbed me.
- 23:03Speaker 1: I was going to put the video in today until
- 23:07Speaker 1: it took you two minutes to try to prick your
- 23:08Speaker 1: finger on your own, and you were too scared to
- 23:11Speaker 1: do it.
- 23:12Speaker 3: So it's tougher than any think. You know.
- 23:15Speaker 2: Well, just grabbed him and stabbed me, so it's like
- 23:18Speaker 2: there's some good blood flowing.
- 23:19Speaker 1: But that that took a little longer too, because you
- 23:22Speaker 1: couldn't stay still. I had to get you to close
- 23:24Speaker 1: your eyes and look away so you wouldn't move your hand.
- 23:28Speaker 1: It is if you've never pricked your finger before with
- 23:30Speaker 1: a needle or anything like, you have to go pretty
- 23:33Speaker 1: far into your skin, yeah, to get blood. And Dak
- 23:36Speaker 1: found that out.
- 23:37Speaker 2: Yeah we heard that last one. You got me good.
- 23:42Speaker 2: It's a good one. Yeah, but I'm officially a Hoscar
- 23:44Speaker 2: fan no more, No more Boomer Sooner talk.
- 23:48Speaker 3: But what what else contributes to this Hosker fandom? Like
- 23:51Speaker 3: to talk to us a little bit.
- 23:54Speaker 1: Like like, what do you mean, like, I can't How
- 23:58Speaker 1: are you gonna show that you're a fan?
- 24:01Speaker 2: Well? The well, the main thing is I cannot choose
- 24:02Speaker 2: to watch an Oklahoma game over a hust game anymore.
- 24:06Speaker 2: I'm not. I have to wear Husker stuff every single
- 24:09Speaker 2: time the Braska plays.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Well, she's been pretty good at that so far.
- 24:14Speaker 2: We'll say, yeah, except for this year. I wore Oklahoma
- 24:18Speaker 2: stuff when they play Michigan.
- 24:20Speaker 3: And then.
- 24:23Speaker 2: I guess, I guess I can't act like I'm Oklahoma
- 24:26Speaker 2: fan anymore. Nope, that's a big thing. Yep, except for
- 24:30Speaker 2: in two weeks when I go down to Dallas. That's
- 24:33Speaker 2: the only the only time out here for Oklahoma. Wait,
- 24:35Speaker 2: what what, I'm with Nebraska Maryland at the same time
- 24:38Speaker 2: as Texas Oklahoma.
- 24:40Speaker 3: You can watch the Texas Oklahoma game.
- 24:42Speaker 2: That's fine, you guys. You guys are cool about that one.
- 24:45Speaker 3: Yeah, you'll be fun.
- 24:50Speaker 1: I have a feeling to Braska Maryland has eleven Actually,
- 24:53Speaker 1: that game will get announced game time. I get announced today,
- 24:56Speaker 1: I think, so it's not the game you're going to Yep,
- 25:00Speaker 1: I'll be I'll be out there. So I had eleven
- 25:04Speaker 1: am written all over it in my mind. But mm hmm,
- 25:09Speaker 1: and i'd say, last thing, you have to focus on
- 25:13Speaker 1: calling Nebraska Wes as he's messed.
- 25:15Speaker 3: Up a lot.
- 25:19Speaker 2: I'm doing well today on it.
- 25:21Speaker 1: Now you're you've already.
- 25:22Speaker 3: Messed up twice. He caught himself though one of the
- 25:24Speaker 3: time he did just do it again as he was
- 25:27Speaker 3: given his little spiel here and he didn't know that
- 25:29Speaker 3: he did it.
- 25:29Speaker 2: So I can see.
- 25:33Speaker 3: You know, he's not on the team, you know so,
- 25:37Speaker 3: but he's now blood part of that blood. You're right,
- 25:40Speaker 3: we need to run the ball better. I should be
- 25:43Speaker 3: on the field.
- 25:44Speaker 1: Here's and we joke about this, but it is funny,
- 25:48Speaker 1: and we talked about this. Probably it's been several years
- 25:52Speaker 1: ago just listening to Nebraska media or actually I think
- 25:55Speaker 1: what what it started was was Scott Frost when he's talking.
- 26:01Speaker 1: When things go well, people use the word we us.
- 26:08Speaker 1: When things go poorly, you start to use they, them
- 26:12Speaker 1: them you like you. You hear it a lot, and
- 26:17Speaker 1: it's it's not just a dak thing. We were making
- 26:20Speaker 1: fun of Dak for doing it, but did just listen
- 26:24Speaker 1: to that, And it is kind of funny how coaches
- 26:28Speaker 1: in media like you want to be a part of
- 26:30Speaker 1: something that is successful, but once things start going south,
- 26:34Speaker 1: you start to go in and then they they're no,
- 26:37Speaker 1: you guys, Like that's what happens. Last Maybe Dak just
- 26:41Speaker 1: hasn't seen good football yet to be part of the Wei.
- 26:44Speaker 3: Yet he says it already. He believes we're playing good football.
- 26:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't have ranked six for no reason.
- 26:55Speaker 1: He just said in that sentence he said it, I
- 27:00Speaker 1: don't have them ranked six. Yep. Okay, after the questions,
- 27:07Speaker 1: there's some good discussion questions here as we got to
- 27:10Speaker 1: wrap up the bye, wey tedded to Michigan State Week.
- 27:15Speaker 1: And some of these topics have been around the past
- 27:17Speaker 1: couple of weeks. I've been around longer than that, but
- 27:20Speaker 1: I think they're worth talking about. So, Uh, first question,
- 27:23Speaker 1: first topic here, and we talked a little bit about
- 27:25Speaker 1: it last episode, but how has nobody figured out that
- 27:28Speaker 1: Dylan is actually trolling everyone with all the new Mahomes
- 27:30Speaker 1: stuff the past two years. Uh, give everybody, give kind
- 27:35Speaker 1: of your final thoughts here, not final thoughts. But where
- 27:38Speaker 1: you sit on the Mahomes Dylan cosplay, I don't think
- 27:48Speaker 1: he is trolling. I think he just he watches a
- 27:50Speaker 1: lot of Patrick Mahomes, so he just does it.
- 27:53Speaker 3: I don't think he's like I don't think he's making
- 27:54Speaker 3: an active decision to do anything like Mahomes. He's just
- 27:58Speaker 3: that's just who he watches, and that's fine. I think
- 28:02Speaker 3: if he didn't look just like him, no one would care.
- 28:04Speaker 3: But he looks exactly like him. That's why people care.
- 28:09Speaker 2: I mean, he's a's idle, like he's trying to He's
- 28:13Speaker 2: tried to map his game around his Mahomes his whole life.
- 28:17Speaker 2: So now do I think, I mean, he's got to
- 28:21Speaker 2: thrown a little bit with how much he's doing like
- 28:23Speaker 2: it's everything is the same as Mahomes.
- 28:26Speaker 1: That's all. It's not just the play in trying to
- 28:32Speaker 1: play like him. There's obviously another level to it. Yeah,
- 28:39Speaker 1: I do like the trolling. I mean I do think
- 28:42Speaker 1: he's the celebrations and stuff like that, like that is something,
- 28:46Speaker 1: not that he's practicing it, but he is watching enough
- 28:49Speaker 1: videos and has a kid idolizing him his mannerisms and
- 28:54Speaker 1: stuff like that to where now it's whether he's doing
- 28:57Speaker 1: it on purpose, it's naturally coming out like he is
- 29:01Speaker 1: done a lot to mimic that, and I do think
- 29:04Speaker 1: a little bit as trolling as far as the attention goes,
- 29:09Speaker 1: he doesn't. Ever, he like brushes it off all the time,
- 29:14Speaker 1: which I think he's pissing people off, probably a little.
- 29:17Speaker 3: More, which I don't get. It's like, I don't he.
- 29:21Speaker 1: Got the trolling piece. I think he's like trying to
- 29:23Speaker 1: act like I don't know what you're talking about, but here,
- 29:26Speaker 1: here's the flex after the first down. Like it's it's
- 29:30Speaker 1: that that's the trolling part that I think he's like
- 29:32Speaker 1: trying to play it off.
- 29:34Speaker 3: And I don't know. Yeah, I mean I get it.
- 29:38Speaker 3: I probably also think people are upset that he does it,
- 29:42Speaker 3: and they're upset that he doesn't acknowledge that he does it.
- 29:44Speaker 3: But if you're ignowed, you know, I don't know. I
- 29:48Speaker 3: think there are plenty of people out there flexing after
- 29:50Speaker 3: first downs. I don't think it's just him, But it's
- 29:54Speaker 3: the easy thing to talk about.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Here's the thing. We're talking about it, and national people
- 30:00Speaker 1: are talking about it, so here. But the very like
- 30:05Speaker 1: traditional kind of older way of thinking, which may still
- 30:09Speaker 1: be right. Is quit doing all the extracurricular stuff. And
- 30:14Speaker 1: this ties into rule too, and just win games. And
- 30:19Speaker 1: if you don't win games, then you look like a
- 30:21Speaker 1: fool and you look like a dummy, and you're I mean,
- 30:23Speaker 1: I think someone else on one of the podcasts I
- 30:26Speaker 1: was listening to said rules podcast is all great and
- 30:29Speaker 1: awesome and great and fab and everybody loves it until
- 30:33Speaker 1: until we lose, and then it becomes quit podcasting and
- 30:37Speaker 1: focusing on that and go win games, which that narrative
- 30:40Speaker 1: was out there, this.
- 30:41Speaker 2: Tweak m yep.
- 30:43Speaker 1: It's kind of the same thing with Dylan, Like I
- 30:45Speaker 1: think a lot of it once. Now you lose a game,
- 30:48Speaker 1: quit focusing and being stupid, go a win game. Which
- 30:53Speaker 1: here's the thing now that could still be right and
- 30:56Speaker 1: could still be true. And I think from a long
- 30:59Speaker 1: you right now today society and where you want publicity,
- 31:06Speaker 1: and sometimes negative publicity is good publicity because you're still
- 31:10Speaker 1: getting talked about when you might not be a relevant
- 31:14Speaker 1: team yet and we might not ever get there potentially
- 31:19Speaker 1: because of those things, but you're at least getting talked about.
- 31:21Speaker 1: And guess what if you do start to win a
- 31:25Speaker 1: couple of games and become relevant. You're gonna be out
- 31:29Speaker 1: there just because of the brand a little bit. But
- 31:30Speaker 1: it's not gonna be like Washington where you're forgotten about,
- 31:33Speaker 1: or Maryland when you're forgotten about. Like You're you're gonna
- 31:36Speaker 1: be at the forefront. So yes, the second part of
- 31:38Speaker 1: all of this is willing for know the next four weeks.
- 31:42Speaker 1: Like that's definitely a thing. But I think that's what
- 31:45Speaker 1: part of this is for Dylan too, is just to
- 31:48Speaker 1: a track. Now you got to be careful and not
- 31:49Speaker 1: to cross the line with the kids, and now it
- 31:52Speaker 1: starts to become a negative all about me. I don't
- 31:55Speaker 1: care about my teammates, I don't care about people that
- 31:58Speaker 1: are coming to help me. It's now it's I show
- 32:00Speaker 1: over the highway. You gotta be careful to cross that line.
- 32:03Speaker 1: And I don't think it's there, but we're not there yet.
- 32:09Speaker 3: But the fact that we say yet means that it
- 32:11Speaker 3: could get there if you're not careful.
- 32:13Speaker 1: So that's the caution with it.
- 32:17Speaker 3: Yeah, that would be such a tough thing to get
- 32:18Speaker 3: there with it, would it would?
- 32:21Speaker 2: I mean what I mean, I've already talked about this.
- 32:23Speaker 2: Where do you sit on how he played gainst Michigan Austin.
- 32:26Speaker 3: He played well. I think there were some throwsy missed,
- 32:30Speaker 3: but he was under literally under dressed the entire game. Yeah,
- 32:34Speaker 3: we were in it.
- 32:36Speaker 2: I mean I think seven points. I think we were
- 32:39Speaker 2: all on the same page. I thought he played great
- 32:41Speaker 2: in Michigan. I don't know where all his hates coming
- 32:43Speaker 2: from after.
- 32:43Speaker 3: That game, but yeah, people who didn't watch the game.
- 32:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean that That's another thing with Mahomes is
- 32:51Speaker 2: people are waiting to hate on him with all this Homes.
- 32:54Speaker 3: Part because you know, again Matt Rule is, he's trying
- 32:58Speaker 3: to get the brand out there and we're not. We're
- 33:02Speaker 3: we're has been not a currently is. Yeah, so there's
- 33:07Speaker 3: there are people who are upset at the Nebraska things.
- 33:10Speaker 3: They're all this, there's great ship, but they're just a
- 33:13Speaker 3: dogship program.
- 33:14Speaker 1: And again Rule is in Dylan speaking of this trolling,
- 33:19Speaker 1: I think he actually is.
- 33:21Speaker 3: To me, he's he is.
- 33:23Speaker 1: Whether it's part of Rules, I don't think it is.
- 33:25Speaker 1: But they are actively trying to draw attention to Nebraska
- 33:29Speaker 1: and it's either going to click or it's going to
- 33:35Speaker 1: blow up. And as I mean as a coach, I
- 33:39Speaker 1: mean as a fan too, you wanna you want to
- 33:42Speaker 1: believe in the optimistic side of things where it's going
- 33:45Speaker 1: to take off. There's obviously worlds, and we've lived in
- 33:48Speaker 1: those that it goes the other way. So right now
- 33:54Speaker 1: we're we're in the we're we're in the process. Right now,
- 33:59Speaker 1: we're in the middle of that. Michigan game was a
- 34:02Speaker 1: big like upfront test. Cincinnati was too. But we're gonna
- 34:06Speaker 1: we're gonna see, like, is is this style, this method,
- 34:10Speaker 1: this approach of drawing focus to Nebraska, It's gonna work.
- 34:17Speaker 1: And if it doesn't, you will look stupid and and
- 34:21Speaker 1: and and my self included, I think maybe all of
- 34:24Speaker 1: us here if we go, for example, worst case scenario
- 34:27Speaker 1: and go six and six or whatever and all this stuff,
- 34:30Speaker 1: and Rule still blab in his mouth about I don't
- 34:33Speaker 1: know what at that point what you're talking about, Like,
- 34:36Speaker 1: we're gonna be like, shut the hell up, like you
- 34:38Speaker 1: will you you naturally will get frustrated. It's just how
- 34:41Speaker 1: it's gonna go. And it's he knows that. Rule knows
- 34:44Speaker 1: that too. He knows that if you don't win, he's
- 34:46Speaker 1: gonna look like an idiot. He knows that that's part
- 34:48Speaker 1: of his plan. Right now, So anyways, speaking of rule,
- 34:57Speaker 1: and isn't as I really I like this question. And
- 35:01Speaker 1: there's a couple of questions here back to back that
- 35:03Speaker 1: go along with this, and it opens up the bigger
- 35:05Speaker 1: conversation around nil and money and transferport all that. But
- 35:10Speaker 1: you mentioned how we don't have the money to pay
- 35:13Speaker 1: running back yet or something like that, didn't have the money,
- 35:17Speaker 1: so along those lines alluded to it. But if we
- 35:20Speaker 1: don't have the money for a running back, why are
- 35:22Speaker 1: we rebuilding the stadium? So that's kind of we'll start
- 35:26Speaker 1: with that question, and rebuilding the stadium I think in
- 35:30Speaker 1: this case is a placeholder of one of the many
- 35:35Speaker 1: places that you can be your money can be getting
- 35:37Speaker 1: allocated to as a program. I do think it's a
- 35:43Speaker 1: valid question, but I also think there's an element that
- 35:47Speaker 1: you do have to obviously keep your stadium up to date.
- 35:49Speaker 1: But to me, that's not the issue right now, and
- 35:52Speaker 1: the like we, I don't think that that matters right now.
- 35:56Speaker 1: I would go the opposite way if it were me God,
- 36:00Speaker 1: and I'm not going to bash US Husker fans, but
- 36:04Speaker 1: I would take out twenty thousand seats, thirty thousand seats,
- 36:08Speaker 1: And maybe that's what we're doing and kind of slim
- 36:12Speaker 1: off and sorry, old people, I love you, But get
- 36:16Speaker 1: the crowd a little more like juice like it was
- 36:20Speaker 1: mean for the Cincinnati game. Make it a little more
- 36:22Speaker 1: of a lively You're obviously gonna want to be family
- 36:27Speaker 1: friendly a little bit, but get it a little more.
- 36:30Speaker 3: Poppin' bad taken football. Winning football games makes it a
- 36:36Speaker 3: little more pomping.
- 36:37Speaker 1: It does, it does, But I don't think that if
- 36:42Speaker 1: we start winning football games, that'll, Yeah, that'll get it
- 36:47Speaker 1: more popping, but.
- 36:48Speaker 3: It's not going to get the old people popping if
- 36:50Speaker 3: you trim off twenty thousand seats though that's insane. We
- 36:55Speaker 3: sell out at this point with eighty five thousand.
- 36:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I want it to be a little more. I
- 37:02Speaker 1: don't know. I I think it's harder to play. Maybe
- 37:06Speaker 1: twenty thousands.
- 37:06Speaker 2: Extreme, but yeah, that's a lot.
- 37:09Speaker 1: That's if you win games, it'll get louder. But I
- 37:12Speaker 1: also think I think the crowd right now is a
- 37:17Speaker 1: little bit just I'm not gonna say old, but it's old,
- 37:22Speaker 1: which is fine because that's those are the people that
- 37:26Speaker 1: probably pay a lot of money, and I get that's important,
- 37:31Speaker 1: and but the amount of people that when you stand
- 37:35Speaker 1: up in game, you get soon now, Yeah, that part,
- 37:40Speaker 1: that part drives me nuts.
- 37:43Speaker 3: Regarding the pain the running back thing, if I had
- 37:46Speaker 3: to guess, it is a you know, the money donated
- 37:51Speaker 3: to the eighteen ninety fund that's used as the NIL
- 37:56Speaker 3: collective cannot be used for the stadium. That like, they're
- 37:59Speaker 3: probably they're just money, you know, accounting, you know, this
- 38:03Speaker 3: is a restricted donation towards this or you know this.
- 38:08Speaker 3: The university isn't paying people, university is not playing pain
- 38:12Speaker 3: at NAL bills. To my understanding, I.
- 38:15Speaker 1: Think you're actually right when you come down to the
- 38:17Speaker 1: actual logistics of it. So you need that money is.
- 38:25Speaker 3: For this purpose, right, and there's probably like they have
- 38:28Speaker 3: certain you know, grants or whatever they have to spend
- 38:31Speaker 3: the money after a certain number of years. And so
- 38:34Speaker 3: I mean your real complaint would be with don't donate
- 38:36Speaker 3: to the athletic department, donate to the NIL That's I mean,
- 38:40Speaker 3: that's probably what it really is. And what we lost
- 38:44Speaker 3: out on the guy end up going to Miami, Like
- 38:46Speaker 3: I mean, they also have a lot of money too,
- 38:48Speaker 3: so there's no guarantee we would have gotten a good
- 38:49Speaker 3: running back. And even if we did spend a lot
- 38:51Speaker 3: of money on a good running back. There's a good
- 38:53Speaker 3: chance that they would have sucked anyways, because that's how
- 38:54Speaker 3: it shakes out half the time.
- 39:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't. I kind of agree with you Hunter
- 39:03Speaker 2: on the like make the crowd younger, because it was
- 39:07Speaker 2: insane how much Cincinnati, how much louder that game was
- 39:11Speaker 2: compared to the Mision game.
- 39:12Speaker 3: I thought winning makes the game. Winning, winning would make
- 39:17Speaker 3: the crowd younger.
- 39:19Speaker 1: But we don't win.
- 39:21Speaker 3: But we don't win. I mean, that's what it is.
- 39:25Speaker 3: People are people our age. It's like, well, I would
- 39:26Speaker 3: I want to go and watch just lose?
- 39:28Speaker 2: Yeah? True, there's more warm people yeah around my rage
- 39:31Speaker 2: that just don't even watch the Oscars anymore because they
- 39:34Speaker 2: think that'sers are losing every week, which is which they are.
- 39:36Speaker 2: But yeah, I.
- 39:39Speaker 3: Knock it off. We are.
- 39:42Speaker 2: I keep on forgetting. I saw my blood.
- 39:46Speaker 1: I need to mute you know, I'll just cut you
- 39:49Speaker 1: off all this say nope, done, all.
- 39:52Speaker 3: Right, I'm surprised. I'm looking at Big ten stadium capacity.
- 39:55Speaker 3: Now this is Google AI overview. I did not open
- 39:58Speaker 3: up an article, so I have not fact checked any
- 40:00Speaker 3: of this. But if you had to guess how many
- 40:05Speaker 3: seats are Oregon.
- 40:09Speaker 1: I think Austin's it's not as big, I think. I
- 40:11Speaker 1: want to say, it's like seventy yes, wow, yeah, so.
- 40:17Speaker 3: We would be just above them if we could. I
- 40:19Speaker 3: guess we would be above Purdue fifty seven.
- 40:23Speaker 2: What's the what's the biggest and big tens of the
- 40:25Speaker 2: big house?
- 40:26Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, State, pent States right behind Ohio, States up there.
- 40:30Speaker 3: Too, Valley. Yep. Those three are all above one hundred k.
- 40:34Speaker 1: So yeah, I'm with you. I think the money thing
- 40:37Speaker 1: and this is kind of the next question here too,
- 40:39Speaker 1: which goes along with it, but I think is also
- 40:42Speaker 1: a palid question that's.
- 40:43Speaker 2: Not and this is not just rule.
- 40:46Speaker 1: It is rual because we're going to grasp the podcast,
- 40:48Speaker 1: but this is all coaches and how much does rule
- 40:53Speaker 1: give the nil as the highest paid state employee? Quote
- 40:56Speaker 1: loves the new football more than anyone. That's kind of
- 40:59Speaker 1: the sarcastic way of putting it. But basically, all these
- 41:04Speaker 1: coaches are getting paid a lot of money, right, And
- 41:06Speaker 1: whether you think their salaries are right or not, it
- 41:10Speaker 1: is also a market and you're going to pay for
- 41:16Speaker 1: the market value of them when you're hiring a new coach.
- 41:19Speaker 1: But they are getting paid a lot of money and
- 41:22Speaker 1: continues to increase, and not just in football, but all
- 41:25Speaker 1: major college sports. At what point do fans think that
- 41:30Speaker 1: they should be giving their money back to the program
- 41:32Speaker 1: if you're the head coach and a little bit of
- 41:34Speaker 1: it kind of is when you think it kind of
- 41:36Speaker 1: makes sense. Right, If you have a bunch of extra
- 41:38Speaker 1: money at any job and you're trying to move your
- 41:45Speaker 1: job or your organization forward, how much money would you
- 41:48Speaker 1: give back to your organization? I mean, this is I
- 41:51Speaker 1: guess now that I'm speaking of it out loud, it
- 41:53Speaker 1: could go for any fortune five hundred CEO as far
- 41:58Speaker 1: as investing your own dollar into your company because you
- 42:02Speaker 1: make a lot of money as the head of the organization.
- 42:08Speaker 1: It's a valid point. I did google and maybe Austin's
- 42:11Speaker 1: doing the same thing on how many coaches have done that.
- 42:15Speaker 1: There's not a lot of records out there. There are
- 42:17Speaker 1: a handful that you can find.
- 42:21Speaker 3: Well, they shouldn't be because apparently according to the NCAA,
- 42:24Speaker 3: it's against it's against the rules, so.
- 42:26Speaker 1: You can't donate. Basically, what I've found, you cannot specifically
- 42:33Speaker 1: donate back to say I'm here's two thousand dollars to
- 42:36Speaker 1: go get me the Miami running back. What you are
- 42:39Speaker 1: two million, two thousand wouldn't do jack shit. What you
- 42:44Speaker 1: can do is at like any other citizen, donate back
- 42:48Speaker 1: to your private collective. So rule can take two million
- 42:52Speaker 1: dollars and say here, collective, here's the money, but he
- 42:56Speaker 1: cannot influence where that money in the collective goes. That
- 42:59Speaker 1: is the collective decision. That is what I found, And
- 43:05Speaker 1: there's there's been coaches that have done that. Brian Kelly's
- 43:08Speaker 1: one that has matched.
- 43:10Speaker 2: They did it early on.
- 43:11Speaker 1: He has matched. It was like a million dollar donations
- 43:15Speaker 1: or up to a million dollars a year or something
- 43:17Speaker 1: of collective money, and him and his family has donated back.
- 43:22Speaker 2: He was one.
- 43:22Speaker 1: I think there was callous coach. I think I saw
- 43:26Speaker 1: it did something similar for like it was like a
- 43:28Speaker 1: half a million or something like that of donating to
- 43:32Speaker 1: their collective. But there hasn't been many like I have not.
- 43:35Speaker 1: I think Patino's the other one I saw did it
- 43:38Speaker 1: at the college basketball level. So I think those are
- 43:40Speaker 1: the three, like big coaches I've seen that have done it,
- 43:44Speaker 1: but there's not there's not much out.
- 43:45Speaker 2: There on it.
- 43:48Speaker 3: I mean you could argue, I mean he's going he's
- 43:50Speaker 3: going to events, he's doing fundraising. He's not doing nothing right.
- 43:56Speaker 1: It's a matter. It's a matter of you're making a
- 43:59Speaker 1: lot of money. What standard of living do you need
- 44:02Speaker 1: to live in? You know, if you especially in a
- 44:06Speaker 1: world where paying paying players gets you a lot further.
- 44:11Speaker 1: And I'm not saying just role. This is is all coaches.
- 44:14Speaker 3: This is so University employees are not allowed to donate
- 44:18Speaker 3: to nil's per NCAA rules in D one.
- 44:22Speaker 2: I mean, Texas Tech has proven it right now you
- 44:25Speaker 2: can basically buy championships now.
- 44:28Speaker 3: Institution sorry, institution employees are prohibited from directly donating money.
- 44:32Speaker 3: Working for service providers are owning a stake and entities
- 44:35Speaker 3: revolving around the NIL. So that's why he can't against
- 44:39Speaker 3: the NCAAA.
- 44:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I guess my my researcher I did it, said
- 44:44Speaker 1: he could. I don't know what's right. I'm sure there's
- 44:52Speaker 1: a way around it. Maybe I don't know.
- 44:53Speaker 2: Yeah, the coaches find a way around it.
- 44:55Speaker 3: Are it's going to functions and fundraise money, and hey,
- 45:01Speaker 3: this would be really great if we could get this
- 45:02Speaker 3: running back. I think we're run running back away. As
- 45:04Speaker 3: you talk to the owner of acres and be like
- 45:07Speaker 3: you know, I think, you know, if we could this
- 45:10Speaker 3: is the guy, if we could get him in.
- 45:16Speaker 2: Yep. I So okay, back to Texas Tech point they
- 45:25Speaker 2: didn't stopball in football too, which I don't know. I mean,
- 45:31Speaker 2: it's failed to you throw you throw this money at
- 45:33Speaker 2: these players. He's eighteen year olds. You know they're gonna
- 45:35Speaker 2: be good or not. And for Texas Tech it's worked
- 45:39Speaker 2: out now arch Manning, what's he making ten million a year?
- 45:44Speaker 2: I think he's the highest paid player in the nation,
- 45:45Speaker 2: and that has not worked out yet. So it's kind
- 45:48Speaker 2: of a gamble either way. What this money where you
- 45:50Speaker 2: throw it?
- 45:51Speaker 1: Hey? And that it's not really a gamble, it's it's
- 45:54Speaker 1: just the market right like it it's not a it's
- 45:59Speaker 1: like professional sport. You're paying players. You're not gambling on
- 46:02Speaker 1: paying I mean you are, you're you're you're paying players
- 46:05Speaker 1: like that's just it's just the world we live in
- 46:09Speaker 1: and as a market value attached to every player.
- 46:11Speaker 2: And whether you have the.
- 46:15Speaker 1: Money to pay them or not, as a as a university,
- 46:19Speaker 1: as a collective, as whatever that may be right now
- 46:24Speaker 1: when there's not many rules to it like that, that
- 46:27Speaker 1: that's just where where where the game's at right now
- 46:30Speaker 1: and from where it sounds and where things are going currently. Obviously,
- 46:35Speaker 1: the NCAA has got the revenue sharing deal in place
- 46:38Speaker 1: where and it was like twenty point two million or
- 46:41Speaker 1: something like that, where the official university is a part
- 46:45Speaker 1: of it, but the nil stuff. That doesn't mean that's
- 46:47Speaker 1: going away. This is like kind of like an in
- 46:50Speaker 1: addition to it, like there's still this back plump some
- 46:53Speaker 1: of call it donations that is sitting there that for
- 46:59Speaker 1: right now is going to exist and sit there for
- 47:01Speaker 1: a while, and then I think that's going to be
- 47:04Speaker 1: very hard to put a cap on because that's always existed,
- 47:08Speaker 1: right It hasn't been quite as defined, but there's always
- 47:12Speaker 1: been funding from alumni and outside sources that go to
- 47:19Speaker 1: various things. Now the difference is you can just use
- 47:21Speaker 1: that money to go to players.
- 47:24Speaker 2: So yeah, if you could just hope you're paying players.
- 47:28Speaker 2: You said about under the table, I mean I players
- 47:34Speaker 2: for twenty years.
- 47:37Speaker 1: Staying on the topic of rule here and this is
- 47:42Speaker 1: more of a long term kind of a bye week
- 47:44Speaker 1: good bye week conversation, but also big picture here. Jonathan Smith,
- 47:56Speaker 1: which is the head coach of Michigan State in year
- 47:58Speaker 1: two beats us and beats rule who's in year three
- 48:04Speaker 1: point to rule being the wrong hire for the future
- 48:07Speaker 1: of the program is gonna be another data point in
- 48:10Speaker 1: my mind. Yep, I think obviously Indiana is the measuring
- 48:16Speaker 1: stick of turning a program around, not saying Michigan State
- 48:21Speaker 1: beating Nebraska would be Michigan State's programs turning around, but
- 48:25Speaker 1: you should you should by every rhyme and reason, should
- 48:30Speaker 1: we be beating Michigan State who we have, our coaching staff,
- 48:34Speaker 1: our program a year long further than them, we're at
- 48:38Speaker 1: home that it would hurt now wrong hire. I don't
- 48:43Speaker 1: know if the wrong hire completely would go that far.
- 48:47Speaker 1: But at the same time, you just get to another
- 48:53Speaker 1: like question of what okay, like what direction are we
- 48:56Speaker 1: going in?
- 48:57Speaker 3: What are we doing here?
- 48:58Speaker 1: This is?
- 48:59Speaker 3: This is the game. We know it's not a must win,
- 49:01Speaker 3: but if you're losing this game all of a sudden,
- 49:04Speaker 3: the year is looking a little more.
- 49:07Speaker 1: Agree is for multiple reasons, and that would be a
- 49:10Speaker 1: big reason of a coach that is a year right,
- 49:13Speaker 1: And we did it with mel Tucker when he was
- 49:15Speaker 1: at Michigan State, lost to him in his first year,
- 49:17Speaker 1: like it is, it is, It's a thing, right, especially
- 49:24Speaker 1: in today's world where coaches don't get twelve years to
- 49:28Speaker 1: turn stuff around anymore. Like you have your system, your style,
- 49:34Speaker 1: whatever that is that you're trying to do, and you're
- 49:36Speaker 1: obviously gonna tweak it year over year. We've our Rule
- 49:40Speaker 1: has already done.
- 49:41Speaker 2: It, like usually get five years max.
- 49:45Speaker 1: Yeah, And I would say this is that the average
- 49:48Speaker 1: the expectation in today's society is that that's just getting
- 49:52Speaker 1: lower and lower.
- 49:53Speaker 3: So because we gave Rule a seven year contract, is
- 49:57Speaker 3: that right correct?
- 49:58Speaker 1: And you're the market's gonna You're gonna pay coaches six
- 50:01Speaker 1: to eight year contracts just just just how it goes,
- 50:04Speaker 1: because then they get the buy on. Coaches know that too,
- 50:06Speaker 1: their agents know that. That's part of it too. So
- 50:09Speaker 1: if you don't give me eight years seven years, then
- 50:11Speaker 1: then you got to fire me and then you got
- 50:13Speaker 1: to pay me a lot of money. That's that's the market, like,
- 50:16Speaker 1: whether you like it or not, to believe it or not,
- 50:18Speaker 1: that's that is where college sports is in paying coaches.
- 50:23Speaker 1: So yeah, I.
- 50:29Speaker 3: Do.
- 50:30Speaker 1: I think I think that it might it might be,
- 50:32Speaker 1: and that that makes this game pretty big for that reason.
- 50:37Speaker 2: I mean, I've I was on the train of saying, well,
- 50:40Speaker 2: he's gonna find that's better. And you're always saying there's
- 50:43Speaker 2: someone out there that's better. Nanty's proven that. So that's
- 50:46Speaker 2: kind of changing my idea. There's you can find all
- 50:52Speaker 2: these smaller school coaches and they can turn your program
- 50:55Speaker 2: around quickly.
- 50:57Speaker 3: Now, wait until the end of the year right loses
- 51:00Speaker 3: to Michigan again, they'll be available.
- 51:04Speaker 2: You can.
- 51:05Speaker 3: After Rule goes, defend state after coast, defense state because.
- 51:10Speaker 1: Oklahoma state on this question too, where I think all
- 51:16Speaker 1: of us, if you had you get to pick fire
- 51:19Speaker 1: Rule tomorrow, yes or no, we'd all say no yep.
- 51:23Speaker 1: But as far as like a I'm gonna use a
- 51:26Speaker 1: scale of zero to one hundred. See that can go
- 51:31Speaker 1: a lot of different ways. Still, are you one hundred
- 51:35Speaker 1: percent confident or how confident are you that Rule will
- 51:37Speaker 1: be our coach in twenty twenty six?
- 51:40Speaker 3: Oh gosh, i'd like did four confident?
- 51:45Speaker 2: I was gonna say ninety five? The only five percent
- 51:49Speaker 2: is the Nebraska is like wheels.
- 51:52Speaker 3: Have to haul off. Yeah, completely if we don't, if
- 51:55Speaker 3: we lose out the year.
- 51:57Speaker 1: So I'm with you, guys, it's I mean, maybe the
- 52:01Speaker 1: percentage confidence that maybe I'm a little lower, but I
- 52:06Speaker 1: think if we go six and six and five and seven,
- 52:09Speaker 1: I'll say five and seven with this schedule, oh boy,
- 52:13Speaker 1: and and maybe that maybe the question isn't completely fired,
- 52:20Speaker 1: but man, the wheels would have to fall off. But
- 52:22Speaker 1: I do think you can see that that that it's there, right.
- 52:26Speaker 1: It's not like it's one hundred percent. But again, well,
- 52:31Speaker 1: do we think it's going to happen. No, that's why
- 52:33Speaker 1: we're all sitting here in the ninety plus here right now.
- 52:36Speaker 1: But we'll just we'll just kind of keep that in
- 52:38Speaker 1: the back of our minds here. I'm not I don't
- 52:41Speaker 1: want to just talk thirty minutes about it unless we
- 52:44Speaker 1: need to here in a few weeks. But along that lines,
- 52:49Speaker 1: and flipping the other side, if we win nine games
- 52:51Speaker 1: this year, what would you give us a grade for
- 52:54Speaker 1: the season? And however you get to nine, that's up
- 52:59Speaker 1: to you. But if we wouldn't nine, that's better than
- 53:01Speaker 1: I had hoped this year, what the grade would you
- 53:04Speaker 1: give us?
- 53:06Speaker 2: Grade? So B plus, Yeah, I can say B because
- 53:13Speaker 2: playoffs is I think an A and nine nine wins
- 53:16Speaker 2: wouldn't be in the playoffs. But that's pretty good improvement
- 53:20Speaker 2: from what it has been.
- 53:23Speaker 1: I like the grade yeah, I like that in the
- 53:25Speaker 1: B range, especially with the schedule this year, right Like,
- 53:29Speaker 1: to me, that would be a you did what you
- 53:31Speaker 1: needed to do and probably got one. That it was
- 53:35Speaker 1: an impressive win, which which looking at our schedule, maybe
- 53:39Speaker 1: that's I mean nine to three would be a Penn
- 53:42Speaker 1: State loss probably And I don't throw any other game
- 53:47Speaker 1: in there, but that means you had a lot of
- 53:50Speaker 1: other games that you kind of proved yourself that you're
- 53:52Speaker 1: in this next tier, like you're you're up in that
- 53:54Speaker 1: Michigan tier that we talked about earlier with them, we
- 53:57Speaker 1: just obviously didn't beat them. That that's that's definitely better
- 54:02Speaker 1: than like right now, we were talking about this this weekend.
- 54:06Speaker 1: What's our what's our season grade so far?
- 54:07Speaker 2: Right now?
- 54:08Speaker 3: From what we know, it's probably a big plus. I
- 54:12Speaker 3: mean I think we I thought we were gonna lose Michigan,
- 54:15Speaker 3: you know, to the beginning, and it was we've performed well.
- 54:21Speaker 2: It.
- 54:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm a sea. I am like see or I
- 54:28Speaker 1: am like this this is how this seat so far?
- 54:32Speaker 1: You squeak out us in Tonat. I mean, think about
- 54:35Speaker 1: the spreads for all these games, right like, maybe if
- 54:37Speaker 1: you want to argue that we covered the spread big
- 54:40Speaker 1: time against the two bad teams. That maybe can bump
- 54:45Speaker 1: you up a little bit, but I'm not taking much
- 54:47Speaker 1: value in that at all. So maybe that gets me
- 54:49Speaker 1: to the C plus. But like that Michigan game went,
- 54:51Speaker 1: like you said about how I thought it would like that,
- 54:54Speaker 1: I actually think that we didn't. We competed, but the
- 54:57Speaker 1: three point losses were really closer to probably ten three,
- 55:00Speaker 1: but it was three. Cincinnati was Cincinnati, Like maybe Cincinnati's okay,
- 55:07Speaker 1: they beat Kansas this week, like I don't know, but
- 55:10Speaker 1: to me, it's like going, it's we're just we're coasting
- 55:13Speaker 1: as as is and and as far as grading, like
- 55:18Speaker 1: pretty pretty average for me. So yeah, getting to nine
- 55:22Speaker 1: would bump me up, but it's not not going to
- 55:24Speaker 1: take me to an A like especially with our schedule,
- 55:27Speaker 1: it's not it'd be a solid year, like it'd be fine.
- 55:31Speaker 1: Like I I think this question is knowing knowing who
- 55:35Speaker 1: sent it and who has this question it. This conversation
- 55:39Speaker 1: can open up bigger too, expectations and performances on what
- 55:47Speaker 1: you really think where we should be at versus where
- 55:50Speaker 1: we are at and where we need to get to
- 55:52Speaker 1: and what that timeline looks like in all of this,
- 55:57Speaker 1: and some people would would would you want to go
- 56:00Speaker 1: the extreme with the people and the resources and the talent,
- 56:05Speaker 1: expect us to just be competing for national titles every year?
- 56:10Speaker 1: We're not there yet? Could we get there? I hope so? No,
- 56:15Speaker 1: But I think that's the goal, the end goal. But
- 56:18Speaker 1: I don't think that's the expectation for every given year
- 56:21Speaker 1: right now. I just I don't think that's realistic. And
- 56:23Speaker 1: if you start doing that as a as a fan specifically,
- 56:31Speaker 1: you're probably not going to be a happy fan. So
- 56:37Speaker 1: like as now, as a player, as a coach, like
- 56:40Speaker 1: that kind of I think a little bit should be
- 56:42Speaker 1: your You shouldn't be hyping up the player and saying, well,
- 56:45Speaker 1: you need to get to eight wins, that'd be great.
- 56:47Speaker 1: Like your your your your strategy. I think your your
- 56:50Speaker 1: your program, you're you're, you are, you're you want everybody
- 56:53Speaker 1: in your program to have that same shared vision goal
- 56:55Speaker 1: of we're striving to be national contenders every year, and
- 56:59Speaker 1: we're doing doing that. Maybe that won't happen tomorrow, but
- 57:02Speaker 1: we're doing that from a process by winning this next game,
- 57:05Speaker 1: winning this next day, winning this next rep. So I
- 57:10Speaker 1: think we're all kind of in the same.
- 57:11Speaker 3: Ballpark there.
- 57:14Speaker 2: On that one.
- 57:18Speaker 1: Last question here as we head into next week, it'll
- 57:24Speaker 1: lead into our Thursday conversation. Well, we design any runs
- 57:29Speaker 1: for Dylan here as we had into Michigan State, any
- 57:34Speaker 1: designed QB runs.
- 57:36Speaker 2: No, I've done it yet, and I don't see any
- 57:40Speaker 2: reason to change that up.
- 57:41Speaker 3: We might have done one, should we Mm hmm. I'm
- 57:52Speaker 3: gonna say no, When do we pull out the Ohio
- 57:57Speaker 3: state of last year? When when is that coming state? Yeah,
- 58:02Speaker 3: that's a break glass in case of emergency until Penn
- 58:05Speaker 3: State if there if we lose one of these games.
- 58:08Speaker 3: And also it's like, okay, she's getting pretty warm, like
- 58:12Speaker 3: oh gas, no breaks this next game, We're we're winning it.
- 58:15Speaker 3: How we need to win probably USC though blackout game
- 58:20Speaker 3: nationally televised at home.
- 58:26Speaker 2: I mean, I'm also gonna say no right now, don't
- 58:30Speaker 2: even design any runs. But it would help if he
- 58:34Speaker 2: took off a little bit more like I don't Michigan game.
- 58:36Speaker 2: He was under pressure that whole time. I just thought
- 58:40Speaker 2: there was some holes that he just get took off on. Again,
- 58:42Speaker 2: he didn't against Michigan. I'm with you.
- 58:46Speaker 1: I think the answer to will we I think no,
- 58:50Speaker 1: I want to a lot more. I don't think the
- 58:55Speaker 1: killin's any faster than he was last year. I still
- 58:59Speaker 1: think you can utiliz him in the quarterback run game
- 59:02Speaker 1: designed to add another threat level. Like gosh, I I
- 59:09Speaker 1: the more college football I watch every year in all
- 59:13Speaker 1: these teams. I was watching Brendan Armstrong and uh Castianos
- 59:21Speaker 1: from Florida State and Virginia Friday night, like are are
- 59:26Speaker 1: are these running quarterbacks as good as passers as Dylan?
- 59:28Speaker 3: No?
- 59:29Speaker 1: And I would argue that Dylan is one of one
- 59:31Speaker 1: of the better passers in the Big Ten and maybe even.
- 59:35Speaker 3: The country, just armed allawise.
- 59:37Speaker 1: He's got no legs though right now, from what we've
- 59:39Speaker 1: seen and we wanted to see that, I still think
- 59:42Speaker 1: in college football that is an added element that you
- 59:45Speaker 1: need to have to add another layer. Now, not you're
- 59:49Speaker 1: not You're not good. There's not going to be a
- 59:51Speaker 1: Jayden Daniels out there's not that those are few and
- 59:53Speaker 1: far between. I'm not saying Dylan needs to be Jaden Daniels,
- 59:56Speaker 1: but I still think designing a couple of runs for
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: him at least adds that that that another element to
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: your offense. And I don't think we will I think
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: the what we're trying to figure out this week is
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: how we can want improve our current run game, but
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: to use the short pass screen game to act as runs.
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: I think that's what the focus is. I don't think
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: it's really going to be on Dylan running, but I do.
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: I just that's the one. I'm not blaming it on Dyl.
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: I am a little bit because I think you can
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: develop as a runner. But it's just different. I it's
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: a it's a different level of opinion on how on
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: what you think works best to win games. And I
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: think you can win games with passing quarterbacks that can't run.
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: And I think that's what right now the coachings has
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: trying to figure out how to do.
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: I just to me, that just is not the best
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: the way.
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: I want a guy that can scoot a little bit,
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: even if that sacer vices some of his throwing. Now
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: the flip side of that, the second that some of
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: his passing goes away, then Husker fans go, oh, he's horrible.
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: He's there. Yeah, Like because I again, the casual Husker
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: fans don't They don't watch a lot of football, and
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: they think that every throw has to be like an
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: NFL quarterback level type of throw. There's some pretty bad
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: passing quarterbacks that are starting for Power five teams out there.
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: I mean he was, I mean he missed a lot
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: of his wide open receivers.
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: And he's stuck as one of the best prospect quarterbacks
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: in the country, right.
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: Yea, So that it is.
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: It's one of those things we shouldn't take for granted,
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: that the arm talent that Dylan has. But at the
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: same time, for me, that what's hard, and I wouldn't
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: I wouldn't trade him. Probably a wave for anybody Bryce
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: und the Roods is kind of the one that I'm
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: my mind's torn. Do you think actually have potential we
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: don't know yet to be a very strong passer, But anyways,
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: that's where my head's out there.
- 1:02:10Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I can see what you're saying. It's most
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: but the moment he runs and gets popped and hurt
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: and it's like, oh, well, but apparently we have a
- 1:02:19Speaker 3: good backup, so that's fine, right, Yeah, we saw a
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: backup against maybe the worst teams.
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: The hurt the hurt things a whole other element again,
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: old old timer's and I probably lean this way a
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: little more. But you say, well, we can't be scared off.
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: You're getting hurt to.
- 1:02:38Speaker 3: An extent, that's true, But there's an extent to it.
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: I don't know who that is. That's why you save
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: it for Ohio State. Right, It's like, this is the game.
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: If we get hurt, that's fine. You don't want to
- 1:02:48Speaker 3: get hurt against Houston Christian.
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: What about Michigan States?
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: That's great? Well, I mean it just depends on how
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: the game goes. If we're down, we need something maybe.
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: But I guess is it to me?
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: Is it is?
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: It? Is it in our playbook?
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: Right? Do we do? We even? Do we even the
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: Papo Massive Hunter it's so big. We know that it's
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: just parsed down this year because but we're still having
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: the same playbook that's still on the coaching.
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: Staff that still there.
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't I I don't see any designed runs
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: being called. But because I'm just not sure Rile is
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: capable of I don't think he's quick enough to do that.
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: You don't have to be quick. The defense just has
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: to give you space.
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: Right as far as yeah, as far as getting designed
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: runs like I'm just talking QB draws or QB wraps,
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: like fake handoffs a lot of times. You don't have
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: to be quick. It's a it's a design, it's a
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: scheme thing. Obviously you have to be able to like walk, but.
- 1:03:54Speaker 3: Like there's seven to eight yards that are open, and it's.
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: A scheme thing. It's not a it's not a obviously
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: if you're quicker helps getting to the spot better. But yeah,
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: that that's I think more Dylan. Dylan's obviously not quick,
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: but you can call it QB draw.
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: I so we're all out on the triple option, then
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: that's not going to get bruck out this week.
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: Probably this week.
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: Dak you were you've gotten away from that. That was
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: your thing when you started joining the podcast.
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: Yep, I'm completely away from that now. It wasn't I
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: saying that the Huskers should run the triple option or
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: something like that when I first start. Oh yeah with
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: Jeff Sims. Yeah it makes sense because that guy speaking
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: people can't throw the ball. That guy cannot the ball.
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: So so if any Huscar fans are complaining about La
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: go Watchef Sims tape for three.
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: Years ago, I think the one thing that we take
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: for granted with the rogola right now is and when
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: you brought Jeff simms up. That gave me like scar tissue.
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: Is you feel safe and comfortable with him throwing the
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: ball like turnover wise, you don't with some of these
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: running quarterbacks. You just you're like, don't throw a pick
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: or even when they're running, don't fumble it. We've seen
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: that Dylan, you don't have that fear as much one
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: because he doesn't run it, so you're not worried about
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: the fumble, and too, you feel a lot safer. Obviously
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: he's had some throws that you're like, who and that
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: could have been picked or picked sixth but he's I
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: think he's got one pick on the air. And turnovers
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: has been a big thing right for Nebraska football and
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: that's gotten a lot better. So I think that that
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: but that is one thing you take for grant a
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: little bit in a quarterback like this that you do
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: you have a sense of security there from a turnover standpoint.
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: Knock on wood so far through the first third of
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: the season.
- 1:05:53Speaker 3: So okay, we.
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: Will be back Thursday, talk a lot more Michigan State.
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: What we want to see here for the first or
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: the second conference game, I guess, But to this four
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: game stretch, the first game of that where we see
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: what we're made of, see what tear we actually fallen. So, Dak,
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: you want to say anything about being a fan last words.
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: Well I guess go Big Red.
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: Okay, go Big Red v R
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: A trick
