- 0:37Speaker 1: Other ones are getting ready for Try to get Taylor
- 0:39Speaker 1: Swift tickets. Yeah, guilty is see Alex suddenly freak out
- 0:43Speaker 1: and start tapping away. You know you know well, she
- 0:46Speaker 1: has like a song for every aspect of your life.
- 0:48Speaker 1: I don't know. I think I'm a writer honestly because
- 0:50Speaker 1: of her. This is so corny. I hate myself. I'm
- 0:54Speaker 1: starting to get worried about her. A little bit over here,
- 0:57Speaker 1: long past that. Evan's acting like he wasn't talking about
- 0:59Speaker 1: it this morning. Swift songs like left and Right and
- 1:03Speaker 1: I only got one guest, how are you back in
- 1:06Speaker 1: but the answer is not Taylor Swift, most Resemble, Sam
- 1:09Speaker 1: Ellinger or two a Tagli tag viola. Say it again,
- 1:17Speaker 1: Fred says, bears win, advising the squares to lay off
- 1:20Speaker 1: this one. Fred says, Bills cover by points here if
- 1:24Speaker 1: you can. Fred says Ravens win, but don't cover fascolating
- 1:28Speaker 1: this one. Don't even know what that means. Fascolating, fast
- 1:30Speaker 1: lane isolating. It's Fred, What do you want me to
- 1:34Speaker 1: tell you? This is Patriot's Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan. All right,
- 1:40Speaker 1: welcome in the Patriots Unfiltered. It is two. It's not
- 1:44Speaker 1: Fred Kirsch, No, it's deuced guy. Sorry, it's another show
- 1:47Speaker 1: with Deus and then the host chair. I know people
- 1:49Speaker 1: are tuning out across the nation right now, but we
- 1:52Speaker 1: do have a crew here today. It is as I
- 1:54Speaker 1: said Tuesday Egelette Stadium, short week here. Fred is is
- 1:58Speaker 1: in fact out today. It's got things very busy, Paul,
- 2:00Speaker 1: he's very important, so he's got things to deal with.
- 2:03Speaker 1: But pat show, I think, I mean, we have a
- 2:05Speaker 1: busy day here today. We love it when they do
- 2:08Speaker 1: Bill at eleven and locker room at five thirty, so
- 2:11Speaker 1: there'll be some much employee, some tone, a little bit
- 2:14Speaker 1: of tone. We have a little news. We do have
- 2:16Speaker 1: some news. Let's start the show. Let's fire away. We
- 2:18Speaker 1: don't We're not gonna wait for Evan to come in
- 2:20Speaker 1: on the second hour. We're just going to tell you
- 2:21Speaker 1: right now. David Andrews out at practice, was actually out
- 2:24Speaker 1: there in uniform. Did not look to be moving great.
- 2:27Speaker 1: But the fact that he was out there, based on
- 2:29Speaker 1: what Ian Rapperport tweeted after the game that he had
- 2:33Speaker 1: suffered a serious thigh injury that was thought to be
- 2:36Speaker 1: possibly season ending, the fact that he's out there practicing
- 2:40Speaker 1: or at least present for practice, um would would indicate
- 2:44Speaker 1: that it's not a season eating injury. It's not a
- 2:46Speaker 1: broken femur. As we were kind of speculating a little bit.
- 2:49Speaker 1: What other thigh injury right would end your season. It's
- 2:52Speaker 1: the bruise Drews broke his thigh. We would have heard
- 2:55Speaker 1: it from the press box. That would be nasty. Maybe
- 2:58Speaker 1: it's a serious contusion contusion. I think it's probably something
- 3:03Speaker 1: like that, but it's not serious. I try to see
- 3:05Speaker 1: he's out there, you know, evidently with a chance, I
- 3:08Speaker 1: mean Scott Zolac, we should probably add that layer to it.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Scott Zolac called it a bad report yesterday on his
- 3:14Speaker 1: show UM on the Sports Hub and said that it's
- 3:18Speaker 1: a it was a bad report and he has a
- 3:21Speaker 1: chance to you know, he's going to see how it
- 3:23Speaker 1: responds to treatment, and he'll have a chance to go
- 3:26Speaker 1: Thursday night. So he wouldn't even Zoe wouldn't even rule
- 3:29Speaker 1: David Andrews out for Thursday night, let alone for the
- 3:31Speaker 1: rest of the season. That's crazy, I mean. And Rappaport
- 3:34Speaker 1: followed up by saying, after a battery of tests, there's
- 3:38Speaker 1: it's thought to be a chance that it won't be
- 3:40Speaker 1: the season ending, but still expected to miss significant time.
- 3:43Speaker 1: So my guess is it's somewhere in between. I don't
- 3:47Speaker 1: think he'll play Thursday night. He I don't think he
- 3:49Speaker 1: looked like he was moving very well in the clip
- 3:51Speaker 1: that I saw, UM, But I don't think it's season
- 3:55Speaker 1: ending either. I think he'll be back, you know. It's
- 3:58Speaker 1: it's good news maybe for the Buffalo the prospect of
- 4:01Speaker 1: trying to go the rest of the season with James
- 4:02Speaker 1: Farrens and get this offense on track and you know,
- 4:05Speaker 1: playing some kind of productive football here down the stretch.
- 4:08Speaker 1: That just seemed like such a tall task to ask
- 4:11Speaker 1: of them. You know, I know James Farrens, he's backup.
- 4:14Speaker 1: He's been you know, reliable as a backup, but they
- 4:16Speaker 1: struggle with with big interior guys. You've seen it over
- 4:19Speaker 1: the last few games. So, UM, I don't think we're
- 4:22Speaker 1: gonna have Andrews back this week, but it's at least
- 4:24Speaker 1: a positive sign. Isaiah Winn wasn't out there though. Um
- 4:27Speaker 1: so it does continue some questions along the offensive line
- 4:30Speaker 1: as far as the health. For what it's worth. Uh,
- 4:33Speaker 1: The Boston Globe did come in with a report backing
- 4:35Speaker 1: up Zoe, Jim McBride and Nicole Yang called David Andrews
- 4:39Speaker 1: day to day, day to day. Well, we're all day
- 4:41Speaker 1: to day, aren't we. We are? Well, let's interest Tamaris here,
- 4:44Speaker 1: Alex's here, Paul is here, as I said, Douce here,
- 4:46Speaker 1: Evan will come in a little bit. He's got a
- 4:48Speaker 1: full day as well. So, um, yeah, we heard from
- 4:50Speaker 1: Bill this morning. They're grinding away on Minnesota. We'll get
- 4:53Speaker 1: into that, but let's let's start with the Jets and
- 4:55Speaker 1: and and you know, kind of a couple days later here. Um,
- 4:59Speaker 1: I'm just going to throw it off the top. And
- 5:00Speaker 1: I said it a little bit in the postgame show
- 5:02Speaker 1: that I thought Mac Jones had an average game. I
- 5:05Speaker 1: thought it looked like Mac Jones of old, nothing, you know, spectacular.
- 5:07Speaker 1: I'm not going to make it out to be a
- 5:09Speaker 1: huge deal, but I thought some of the plays he had,
- 5:12Speaker 1: particular third down pass to Jacobe, just you know, looked
- 5:14Speaker 1: in rhythm. He looked calm, He didn't make the mistakes,
- 5:16Speaker 1: didn't put the ball in harm's way. I know we
- 5:18Speaker 1: took a lot of sacks, and believe me, I'm ready
- 5:21Speaker 1: to kill the offense still. But I just thought Mac
- 5:25Speaker 1: played pretty good. Played pretty good. Yeah I don't. I mean,
- 5:27Speaker 1: I don't know about pretty good, but I would think
- 5:29Speaker 1: I would agree with overall assessment of Mac. You know,
- 5:35Speaker 1: they have so many problems offensively. They're having problems running
- 5:39Speaker 1: the ball, They're having problems protecting the passer. I think
- 5:42Speaker 1: they have problems with play design. I think they have
- 5:44Speaker 1: problems with consistency and penalties. I think it runs the
- 5:47Speaker 1: game at the negative plays are killing them. I think
- 5:50Speaker 1: they hit double digits again in that category, and they
- 5:54Speaker 1: can't move the ball and they can't score points. It's
- 5:56Speaker 1: really unfortunate for Mac that he I don't think he's
- 5:59Speaker 1: played a single game with a healthy OH line doesn't
- 6:02Speaker 1: seem like it's certainly, I mean, at least in the
- 6:04Speaker 1: beginning of the year you have one. But then it
- 6:05Speaker 1: felt like everybody wasn't really playing well. It was it
- 6:09Speaker 1: was really Zappy that benefited from them kind of being
- 6:11Speaker 1: healthy and those two games where they played pretty well,
- 6:13Speaker 1: and I don't know, yeah, it's how that works. Yeah. Well,
- 6:18Speaker 1: and obviously short turnaround or I'm not allowed to say that.
- 6:23Speaker 1: I know I'm getting We know how you feel about
- 6:25Speaker 1: slapped out back. I did think that they strung together
- 6:29Speaker 1: a few series that I really liked, but they just
- 6:32Speaker 1: ended poorly, like they just they moved the ball down
- 6:34Speaker 1: the field, got into the red zone, and it was
- 6:36Speaker 1: just like I think it was like in the second quarter.
- 6:38Speaker 1: They had a couple where and I mean we talked
- 6:40Speaker 1: about on the show where it's just so frustrating because
- 6:43Speaker 1: they start to put something together, they string together a
- 6:45Speaker 1: double jed drive, they start to get close, they're getting
- 6:47Speaker 1: some momentum, and then it's negative mistakes, negative players, penalties,
- 6:50Speaker 1: the penalties. They started one red zone drive first play
- 6:53Speaker 1: in the red zone first and ten from the fifteen penalties.
- 6:55Speaker 1: And this is the same thing we've seen since Week one.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Drive one in Miami, great drive just oh penalty. Oh
- 7:02Speaker 1: now we're kicking consistency. The one thing that I you know,
- 7:06Speaker 1: in terms of encouragement in this game, and it's going
- 7:09Speaker 1: to be kind of surprising to hear, is I thought
- 7:11Speaker 1: that they did some things differently in terms of their
- 7:14Speaker 1: approach with play design, and at times I thought they worked.
- 7:19Speaker 1: And you know, I mentioned they didn't move the ball
- 7:22Speaker 1: and they didn't score any points. Okay, So they had
- 7:23Speaker 1: two hundred and ninety seven yards of offense, which was
- 7:26Speaker 1: a bad number. Okay, no matter how you try to
- 7:28Speaker 1: spin it the way Bill try to spend it after
- 7:30Speaker 1: the game, it's even worse when you consider they had
- 7:33Speaker 1: about I think it was seventy eight yards on three plays.
- 7:37Speaker 1: They had a thirty yard run in, a twenty two
- 7:39Speaker 1: yard run by Damian Harrison, a twenty six yard catching
- 7:41Speaker 1: run by Jonathan Smith. But the reason I bring those
- 7:44Speaker 1: plays up is I think those plays were really encouraging
- 7:47Speaker 1: because two of them came from a formation that I
- 7:50Speaker 1: haven't really seen all year, with both tight ends in
- 7:53Speaker 1: the backfield. With a running back, and they had some
- 7:58Speaker 1: different plays off of those same formations, which stopped me.
- 8:02Speaker 1: I know, this is a little surprising. That's coaching. Yeah,
- 8:05Speaker 1: that's that's game planning, that's play design, and I think
- 8:09Speaker 1: there were some signs that there were some different things
- 8:12Speaker 1: that were being done. There was a little bit more
- 8:14Speaker 1: I thought, play action, a little bit more first down throws. Now,
- 8:17Speaker 1: it wasn't always successful. A matter of fact, it mostly
- 8:19Speaker 1: wasn't successful. First down of the very first down of
- 8:22Speaker 1: the game resulted in a sack where it didn't look
- 8:25Speaker 1: like the offense was on the same page. It looked
- 8:27Speaker 1: like it was supposed to be a little swing pass
- 8:29Speaker 1: to Damien Harris, and other people didn't get the memo.
- 8:32Speaker 1: Cole Strange is out blocking in front of Damien Harris,
- 8:34Speaker 1: which tells me it was some kind of a screen
- 8:37Speaker 1: and looking backside to Hunter Henry. So I don't know
- 8:41Speaker 1: who's at fault. I don't know if there was a
- 8:43Speaker 1: miscommunication or whatever, but I did find it encouraging that
- 8:46Speaker 1: they were able to get some chunk plays and then,
- 8:49Speaker 1: like Tamara said, they get down there and it's like
- 8:51Speaker 1: you get around the twenty twenty five yard line and
- 8:53Speaker 1: you immediately start going backwards with sacks, with penalties, and
- 8:56Speaker 1: you you know, in a weather game like that, you're
- 9:00Speaker 1: a field goal range with some of those. Yeah. Do
- 9:01Speaker 1: you think Paul that some of those new formations that
- 9:07Speaker 1: we saw were because of the defenses being able to
- 9:09Speaker 1: immediately figure out what the Patriots were doing and how
- 9:11Speaker 1: they were calling it out. I mean, it could be.
- 9:15Speaker 1: It could be, you know, they're seeing an opponent that
- 9:18Speaker 1: really shut them down, you know, the previous time, and
- 9:22Speaker 1: maybe they said we can't just line up and do
- 9:24Speaker 1: the same stuff that you know, c J. Mosley was
- 9:26Speaker 1: figuring these things out. I thought it was interesting that
- 9:28Speaker 1: Bill was asked about Shack Leonard won that question about
- 9:32Speaker 1: the calling out of the plays, and he offered up
- 9:36Speaker 1: that c J. Mosley was doing the same thing the
- 9:38Speaker 1: previous week. So yeah, I think there's a chance that
- 9:41Speaker 1: they maybe dialed up some wrinkles that were designed to
- 9:44Speaker 1: sort of give give the Jets a look that they
- 9:47Speaker 1: thought was familiar and then they went with something different. Again.
- 9:50Speaker 1: I think there was some encouragement there, just not enough, yeah,
- 9:54Speaker 1: easy to kind of help the tackles maybe a little
- 9:55Speaker 1: bit from those spots too, with where they were putting
- 9:57Speaker 1: the tight ends. I don't know if they did enough
- 9:58Speaker 1: of that, but it's like, did you feel like that
- 10:00Speaker 1: they moved the ball well in the Jets game at
- 10:03Speaker 1: the Meadowlands. Not in hindsight, no, right now, you know,
- 10:07Speaker 1: and you know they ended up they ended up with
- 10:09Speaker 1: nine more yards in this game. It was two eighty
- 10:12Speaker 1: eight to two ninety seven, and for some reason, people
- 10:15Speaker 1: acting like they moved the ball better well. To your point, though, two,
- 10:18Speaker 1: it's like like some of those players were schemed up
- 10:20Speaker 1: and they were open, and some of the play actions
- 10:22Speaker 1: were open and that you know, those are scheme stuff.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Nothing has been easy for this offense this year. So
- 10:28Speaker 1: to see them execute a play action pass where the
- 10:31Speaker 1: defense bites on it and then you have, you know,
- 10:33Speaker 1: an easy throw um, those things were just, you know,
- 10:36Speaker 1: kind of encouraging to see overall. And now of course
- 10:40Speaker 1: we're seeing Zach Wilson is now sounds like he's in
- 10:42Speaker 1: the quarterback competition down there, and he should be. He
- 10:45Speaker 1: should be. And I think it's more I mean, not
- 10:47Speaker 1: that we have to take this into a Jets confidential
- 10:50Speaker 1: to use our buddy Dan leberfeldt Um. He didn't play well,
- 10:56Speaker 1: and that's fine, but to me, it's more off the
- 10:59Speaker 1: field stuff that he's not their guy. I agree. I
- 11:02Speaker 1: feel like from after that first press conference where he
- 11:05Speaker 1: was like, we'll see them again in two weeks, I
- 11:07Speaker 1: was just like, like, it was just very and it's
- 11:11Speaker 1: it's trying to be emotional, but like, don't do that
- 11:13Speaker 1: at the podium, and then also to come in in
- 11:15Speaker 1: the like coming into the game like no one knows
- 11:17Speaker 1: what's going on and saide, this building is up for us. Okay,
- 11:20Speaker 1: he needs a coach, he needs a media coach. Yes,
- 11:23Speaker 1: you know, I think coach. I think Paul could just
- 11:25Speaker 1: give him the talk that heat. Paul gave his son
- 11:27Speaker 1: the other day about it. But I'm sorry, it wasn't you.
- 11:30Speaker 1: It wasn't you. It was Aaron. I'm sorry. I've mixed
- 11:33Speaker 1: up Aaron and Paul and I feel like I'm in trouble,
- 11:35Speaker 1: but you are. It's like I was talking to Nicolette
- 11:39Speaker 1: and I was like, you know, you really see the
- 11:40Speaker 1: value in the Patriots players being media coached. When you
- 11:45Speaker 1: look at someone like that who's at the podium and
- 11:47Speaker 1: is asked, do you think you let your defense down
- 11:49Speaker 1: only scoring three points? No? No, I said the same
- 11:52Speaker 1: thing to Cole Strange when he was just like asking
- 11:54Speaker 1: about some of like the small finicky things in here
- 11:57Speaker 1: doing an interview, and I'm just like, honestly, you should
- 11:59Speaker 1: be thankful. Yeah, like you're just a rookie. You should
- 12:02Speaker 1: be thankful that there's this much like I sight on
- 12:05Speaker 1: you and people just want to make sure you don't
- 12:07Speaker 1: stumble over your own words. Yeah. Yeah. To me, it's
- 12:10Speaker 1: not about what he said. It's about his mentality. Yeah,
- 12:13Speaker 1: he's not the leader in the locker room. Yeah. And
- 12:16Speaker 1: there's no media coaching that can make him the leader
- 12:18Speaker 1: that he isn't. And that's why I'm sort of I
- 12:22Speaker 1: kind of, you know, remained intrigued by his physical ability,
- 12:27Speaker 1: but I don't think it'll ever, you know, and just
- 12:30Speaker 1: watching his demeanor, watching the way like Garrett Wilson, you know,
- 12:36Speaker 1: was you know, like has grown exasperated by it as
- 12:39Speaker 1: a rookie. Yeah, that's a guy that's not he's not
- 12:43Speaker 1: in charge. He's not in command. And even like, you know,
- 12:45Speaker 1: go back to our pregame show Mike with with Dan,
- 12:49Speaker 1: when we had Dan Leberfeld on and he was talking
- 12:51Speaker 1: about Mike White being a better option and that kind
- 12:57Speaker 1: of stuff comes from inside and in the locker room,
- 12:59Speaker 1: and there's doubt that he's the guy. And it's not
- 13:03Speaker 1: about ability, because he has ability. It's about his It's
- 13:06Speaker 1: about his willingness to take command of the offense and
- 13:11Speaker 1: to take responsibility, take you know, take ownership and leadership
- 13:15Speaker 1: of the offense. You score three points, yeah, which I
- 13:20Speaker 1: think to draw a parallel almost to Washington with Taylor
- 13:22Speaker 1: Heineke and not not not exactly the same kind of situation,
- 13:25Speaker 1: but Heineke's a kind of guy, not the most talented,
- 13:28Speaker 1: has been around, was here for a bit, but like
- 13:31Speaker 1: seems to have the team on page with him, you know, like,
- 13:35Speaker 1: and I think that like to your point, it's it's
- 13:37Speaker 1: really worth a lot when you feel like the team
- 13:40Speaker 1: believes in this guy, and I think, I mean they
- 13:41Speaker 1: don't believe it. Yeah, that's a perfect way to put it.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Seems like it. So it sounds like he's gonna have
- 13:47Speaker 1: a little competition. We'll see what happens to the Jets.
- 13:49Speaker 1: I mean, they're still in the mix. And needs to
- 13:52Speaker 1: be careful too, because I thought initially he was like
- 13:55Speaker 1: that's out of the question, and the next day he changed.
- 13:57Speaker 1: So I think that's a good I think that's a
- 13:59Speaker 1: good sign for the Jets that he was willing to like, Okay,
- 14:03Speaker 1: you know, we can look at the film and look
- 14:06Speaker 1: at the fallout from kind of over I think it's
- 14:08Speaker 1: more the fallout because the film like this is gonna
- 14:12Speaker 1: sound really stupid, you know, Like we said, I don't
- 14:14Speaker 1: think mac Jones played terrible. I don't think Zach Wilson
- 14:17Speaker 1: played terrible in the first half. It was when he
- 14:20Speaker 1: the second half he was like he had never played before.
- 14:23Speaker 1: And it's kind of started with that throw over the
- 14:25Speaker 1: middle that he hit mccordy in the chest when he
- 14:27Speaker 1: had Conklin wide open, he just threw it over his head.
- 14:31Speaker 1: I think that was kind of the beginning of the end.
- 14:32Speaker 1: I don't think he was terrible terrible until then. Then
- 14:35Speaker 1: he was terrible, I mean really bad. And then scoffing
- 14:38Speaker 1: at the question about the offense not helping the Jets
- 14:41Speaker 1: defense just really did not do him any justice. No,
- 14:44Speaker 1: And I mean I wonder, I wonder what's going to
- 14:46Speaker 1: happen this week. I mean, it's it's got to be
- 14:47Speaker 1: tough for the Jets because this, I mean, yet again,
- 14:50Speaker 1: there's been a comedic loss to the Patriots. Which, like
- 14:53Speaker 1: I just I found myself over the years, even as
- 14:55Speaker 1: a Patriots fan, just shaking my head. How do you
- 14:59Speaker 1: bounce back from at and then you know, kind of
- 15:01Speaker 1: change quarterbacks? Like I don't think it's crazy to think
- 15:03Speaker 1: they bring in Mike White and the team kind of
- 15:06Speaker 1: rallies around him and the Jets make a little bit
- 15:08Speaker 1: of a push here. Yeah, and it complicates I agree.
- 15:10Speaker 1: I agree. I've seen stranger things because I think that
- 15:13Speaker 1: defense is pretty good and I think they have some
- 15:15Speaker 1: decent weapons on offense. They just don't have anybody to
- 15:18Speaker 1: consistently get the ball to them. Well, we got a
- 15:20Speaker 1: couple of early calls here. I'm just going to jump
- 15:22Speaker 1: on the phones. That all right? Is that? Is that kosher? Here?
- 15:27Speaker 1: We got a couple of all timers here with Christian
- 15:29Speaker 1: and John both in LA. So the West coast is
- 15:32Speaker 1: checking in. Christian right in at the top, Hey Christian,
- 15:34Speaker 1: how's it going? Guys are up early? Hey you guys
- 15:38Speaker 1: happy a Turkey week? Thank you. But I'm going to
- 15:41Speaker 1: get right into what I consider the bad means, because
- 15:46Speaker 1: but you guys want to put a positives been a
- 15:48Speaker 1: not after a week to prepare for a team that
- 15:53Speaker 1: you've beaten thirteen times in a row, and you just
- 15:57Speaker 1: beat the week prior. The fact that this offense only
- 16:00Speaker 1: mastered mustered the three points is absolutely there's no way
- 16:05Speaker 1: to get around it. We are not and cannot go
- 16:07Speaker 1: any further into the postseason until we make some major
- 16:12Speaker 1: major changes. But are they. I'm not sure. I'm not
- 16:15Speaker 1: the coach. I'm not. I'm not a you know, um
- 16:18Speaker 1: pro like you guys are. But I'm a fan, a
- 16:21Speaker 1: long time fan, and I'm watching this and I'm just
- 16:23Speaker 1: putting the pieces together and going there's no absolutely no
- 16:27Speaker 1: way we can go anywhere with this team. I'm exasperated. Guys,
- 16:31Speaker 1: help me out. I wish I could. Thanks. Christian uh Well,
- 16:34Speaker 1: I mean, I think you have to look at the
- 16:36Speaker 1: defense and just wonder if they can continue to play
- 16:39Speaker 1: at the level that they're playing or something close to it,
- 16:42Speaker 1: and continue to get the pressure on the passer that
- 16:44Speaker 1: they have, And I think that's their Their keyest success
- 16:47Speaker 1: in the last seven games is is defense. I don't
- 16:51Speaker 1: think I did write about that. A matter of fact,
- 16:53Speaker 1: it's probably on Patriots dot Com now the notes. God
- 16:57Speaker 1: knows you won't be able to find it otherwise. Yeah,
- 17:00Speaker 1: I just uh. I mean, I think the bottom line
- 17:02Speaker 1: is they're a bad offense. They're they're bad, They're not good.
- 17:04Speaker 1: They're one of the worst offenses in the league. And
- 17:06Speaker 1: you know, you can parse it out however you want
- 17:08Speaker 1: in terms of blame. But you know, I I thought
- 17:11Speaker 1: Mac played okay. I mean, I thought they did kind
- 17:13Speaker 1: of what he asked of him. And I think what
- 17:14Speaker 1: was on display for me that game. We talked about
- 17:17Speaker 1: a little bit with Evan last week too, was just
- 17:19Speaker 1: it doesn't really feel like there's a plan. It just
- 17:21Speaker 1: it feels like they're just calling plays. You know, there's
- 17:24Speaker 1: not and there isn't an offense. It's just kind of
- 17:26Speaker 1: a random smattering of this and then that. And you know,
- 17:31Speaker 1: I think it's just what's their identity right now? We
- 17:34Speaker 1: always kind of come back to that. I don't think
- 17:36Speaker 1: they have an identity other than defense. Yeah, I mean,
- 17:39Speaker 1: defense is the team's identity and special teams obviously with
- 17:42Speaker 1: Marcus Jones, but offensively, there's nothing. I mean, and even Romandra,
- 17:47Speaker 1: what he gets is kind of like what he's able
- 17:49Speaker 1: to grind out on his own, umspite the protection and
- 17:53Speaker 1: to spite getting hit two yards behind the you know,
- 17:55Speaker 1: behind the line of scrimmage and then being able to
- 17:57Speaker 1: jump out. It's just I they got a lot to
- 18:01Speaker 1: figure out. I mean, I think you can kind of
- 18:02Speaker 1: sweep it on the rug with a two game, three games,
- 18:04Speaker 1: three day turnaround right now with the Vikes. But let's
- 18:08Speaker 1: let's hop over to John John and la Hey John,
- 18:10Speaker 1: what's going on? Hey guys? First of all, I just
- 18:13Speaker 1: want to say how genuinely grateful I and I'm sure
- 18:17Speaker 1: hundreds of thousands of other listeners are for the show.
- 18:21Speaker 1: It's you guys are awesome. I love it. I believe
- 18:25Speaker 1: that you're actually smart about these things in balance, and
- 18:28Speaker 1: it's a credit to the Craft for wanting it to
- 18:30Speaker 1: be a show that's like honest criticism and praise and whatever.
- 18:35Speaker 1: So just thank you for that. I'm grateful. I am.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Last time I call, I was reasily wound up about drafting,
- 18:45Speaker 1: and I still am. If it were up to me,
- 18:48Speaker 1: we would have taken Devin Lloyd and I would have
- 18:49Speaker 1: taken Georgie Pickens in the second round, and I feel
- 18:51Speaker 1: like that would have been pretty good. However, whatever it is,
- 18:56Speaker 1: what it is, and you know, who knows, Tekwon Thorton
- 18:59Speaker 1: might end up being awesome. He's having a rocky rookie season.
- 19:01Speaker 1: Lots of people do. I'm I'm annoyed by the Matt
- 19:08Speaker 1: Patricia thing because Matt Patricia. I think the reason so
- 19:11Speaker 1: many of us aren't happy with it is that he
- 19:15Speaker 1: was bad when he was here. I know there was
- 19:17Speaker 1: there was a success. I get it, But if you
- 19:20Speaker 1: ask most Patriots fans who watched closely, most listeners did
- 19:24Speaker 1: this show. I'll bet if you're talking about a defensive
- 19:26Speaker 1: coordinator during the Belichick time, the ones that you don't
- 19:30Speaker 1: like are what's his name who went to the Ravens
- 19:32Speaker 1: and then was part of sort of part of the
- 19:34Speaker 1: flake Gate Patricia. And maybe it's just because he left
- 19:39Speaker 1: after we get a thousand points in the super Bowl
- 19:42Speaker 1: and then did a crumby job in Detroit and said
- 19:45Speaker 1: that thing about the Malcolm Butler interception, sort of taking
- 19:48Speaker 1: some credit for it. So he already wasn't somebody who
- 19:52Speaker 1: we felt affection for, like a Florid or a Dable
- 19:58Speaker 1: even Uh. Now he comes in and he's put in
- 20:02Speaker 1: this position that's not a guest entirely his fault. Bill
- 20:05Speaker 1: wants him to coach, call the plays and coordinate the offense.
- 20:09Speaker 1: And coach the offensive line. I mean, what has happened
- 20:12Speaker 1: has been if you had the Taylor, if you had
- 20:16Speaker 1: Taylor mate, the worst case scenario for Belichick in terms
- 20:20Speaker 1: not that he cares about the media, but in terms
- 20:22Speaker 1: of what everyone was saying. This is it, this is
- 20:25Speaker 1: what we said was gonna happen, and it's happening. It's
- 20:28Speaker 1: really frustrating. Um So that's all. I just wanted to
- 20:33Speaker 1: say that, And I really appreciate so rant. Thanks John.
- 20:37Speaker 1: I liked it. Good rant. And that feeds into a
- 20:39Speaker 1: rant that you know, I've heard Paul do plenty of
- 20:41Speaker 1: times too back in that which is well, no, just
- 20:44Speaker 1: that the I mean, and I was right there when
- 20:46Speaker 1: Flores came in and they all of a sudden were
- 20:48Speaker 1: so aggressive. I mean, my impression they were better playing
- 20:51Speaker 1: off at dawn Off at John's point, was just that
- 20:53Speaker 1: it seems like Patricia's just obsessed with playing the odds
- 20:57Speaker 1: and Ben don't break and not being aggressive and send
- 20:59Speaker 1: in three guys and sending two guys and you know,
- 21:02Speaker 1: just waiting for the other team to screw up, and
- 21:04Speaker 1: certainly it worked a lot. Super Bowl forty nine coming
- 21:07Speaker 1: as an example, right at the very end, but overall,
- 21:10Speaker 1: there were certain times when it didn't work, and then
- 21:11Speaker 1: all of a sudden, you're getting lit up by a
- 21:13Speaker 1: quarterback that you never expect to light you up. I mean,
- 21:16Speaker 1: that happened, you know, a number of times. So I
- 21:18Speaker 1: get John's point. I also just to say, though, I
- 21:20Speaker 1: don't feel like mat Patricia was put in a position
- 21:22Speaker 1: to succeed this year, and the two things that he's
- 21:26Speaker 1: been charged with are the two things that are getting
- 21:28Speaker 1: overwhelmed right now, the overall offensive coordination and the offensive line.
- 21:32Speaker 1: So I mean, I think most people are saying, you know,
- 21:35Speaker 1: as we talked about, get him some help at something.
- 21:38Speaker 1: I mean, at some point do you just take the
- 21:39Speaker 1: offensive line and way do you bring an offensive line
- 21:41Speaker 1: coach in the off season. I don't want to get
- 21:43Speaker 1: ahead of ourselves into the off season already, but it's
- 21:45Speaker 1: there's a lot on his plate, and I get everything
- 21:47Speaker 1: that John said, but I also, you know, I do
- 21:49Speaker 1: have a feeling of what did you think was going
- 21:51Speaker 1: to happen? Did you think that all of a sudden
- 21:52Speaker 1: he was just You're gonna unleash this creative And I
- 21:55Speaker 1: think that's the biggest issue, like the biggest issue with
- 21:57Speaker 1: the offense. Is is the coaching, you know, like in
- 22:01Speaker 1: all of that. But I agree with Mike. It's not
- 22:05Speaker 1: Matt Patricia's fault that he was asked to do this.
- 22:07Speaker 1: It's Bills and Bill said told us many times during
- 22:10Speaker 1: the summer, this is on me. Blame me if it
- 22:13Speaker 1: doesn't go well. This is what everybody talked about all
- 22:16Speaker 1: spring and summer. And now it's been ten games of
- 22:19Speaker 1: nothing offensively right. Can't find the stride, can't find consistency,
- 22:24Speaker 1: and it's not getting and it's not getting better. I
- 22:26Speaker 1: know there are elements that I like I said, I
- 22:29Speaker 1: think there's like individual things like we talked about with
- 22:33Speaker 1: some of those different formations that led to some some
- 22:35Speaker 1: chunk plays. There are little things that are you know,
- 22:38Speaker 1: they're improved, but it just covers up another shortcoming to me,
- 22:42Speaker 1: like with the penalties and the negative plays, and now
- 22:45Speaker 1: they can't they can't run the ball. Suddenly they can't.
- 22:47Speaker 1: I mean Romadre Stevenson averaging less than two yards of
- 22:50Speaker 1: garry right in that game, you get Damien Harris like
- 22:52Speaker 1: bouncing to the outside, like you know, catching them two
- 22:55Speaker 1: big runs down. Yeah, and even with those two big
- 22:58Speaker 1: it's like no I'm not taking away the already in
- 23:00Speaker 1: the twenty two count those they averaged less than four
- 23:02Speaker 1: yards to carry in the game. Yeah, with a thirty
- 23:05Speaker 1: and twenty two yard run. I just this was the
- 23:09Speaker 1: first time that they didn't have like great feel position,
- 23:12Speaker 1: I would say, and they were able to move the
- 23:14Speaker 1: ball down the field. And then I just don't know
- 23:16Speaker 1: why I keep stalling out at the red zone. It's
- 23:18Speaker 1: like for the first time they are getting aunt moved
- 23:21Speaker 1: it that far. Like yeah, well, and I thought that
- 23:23Speaker 1: was interesting today from from Bill's press conference that we
- 23:25Speaker 1: didn't take a lot. But Mike Reas you know, pointedly
- 23:28Speaker 1: asked him, you know, a good red zone offense, what
- 23:30Speaker 1: do you see? Um? Balance? Balance? That was it. You know,
- 23:34Speaker 1: you can run the ball, you can throw the ball
- 23:35Speaker 1: to the multiple people. I just I don't know. I
- 23:37Speaker 1: thought it was interesting. I know what Mike was getting
- 23:39Speaker 1: at because they had been terrible. The question was pointed,
- 23:42Speaker 1: you know, and then it's so then the question is,
- 23:43Speaker 1: so do you guys You guys don't really have balance,
- 23:46Speaker 1: And I mean, I think that's fair. I don't think
- 23:47Speaker 1: they do either thing. Well, like it's not like they
- 23:50Speaker 1: can only do one thing when they get down there,
- 23:52Speaker 1: and that's why they started. They can't even got a
- 23:53Speaker 1: one thing. They don't have a thing. Last year you
- 23:55Speaker 1: had Hunter Henry, you know, well last year I think
- 23:57Speaker 1: they had Damien Harris fifteen rushing touchdown. Yeah, yeah, you know,
- 24:02Speaker 1: not good, not good. Well, but balance in the red
- 24:05Speaker 1: zone is what Bill says is the key to scoring
- 24:08Speaker 1: on a consistent basis. Five five pats five hundred is
- 24:12Speaker 1: the number to give us a call. Here full of
- 24:13Speaker 1: lines are ope, and we got a bunch of emails
- 24:15Speaker 1: coming in. We'll get to those in a little bit, though.
- 24:16Speaker 1: I don't think I'm not ready. Don't you read ready?
- 24:18Speaker 1: Should I read them already? We're not ready yet. I
- 24:22Speaker 1: haven't eaten yet. Did we want to flirt a little
- 24:24Speaker 1: bit with Minnesota? Are we flirting? If you're going to
- 24:27Speaker 1: do that, well, I don't know if I have I
- 24:29Speaker 1: don't know if I have my game anymore. So. I
- 24:31Speaker 1: thought it was interesting that um Bill mentioned today that
- 24:35Speaker 1: they started looking at some Viking stuff during the by
- 24:39Speaker 1: just because they knew this week was going to be
- 24:40Speaker 1: a short week. Yeah, it seems like it's all on today,
- 24:43Speaker 1: Bill said, today's there, they're busy day of install but um,
- 24:47Speaker 1: you know before before we get into Minnesota, though, I
- 24:49Speaker 1: got to point out right now, it is the last
- 24:51Speaker 1: time the Patriots played on Thanksgiving. You know when that
- 24:53Speaker 1: was tomorrow? What was I love ten years ago, ten
- 24:57Speaker 1: years ago, twenty and twelve in November, and uh it
- 25:02Speaker 1: was also the anniversary today A big play. Yeah. I
- 25:06Speaker 1: asked Matt Morrell to uh to pull to pull some
- 25:08Speaker 1: sound for us, so you know, to remember the great
- 25:10Speaker 1: butt fumble play. So ten year anniversary, I'll never forget
- 25:13Speaker 1: where I was. Everyone does. Yeah, Matt, oh years ago
- 25:16Speaker 1: we talked to Tom Moore than at Indianapolis the offensive pool.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Maybe you gotta busted play here. And then then Sanches
- 25:23Speaker 1: gets hit. The ball is loose and it's alive. I
- 25:26Speaker 1: have never seen this before in my life. Watch this.
- 25:29Speaker 1: Vince will Fork is gonna throw Brandon Moore back into
- 25:32Speaker 1: his quarterback. He's gonna fumble a football. This is what
- 25:38Speaker 1: Reggie White used to do to people. Fork lift him
- 25:40Speaker 1: and just lift him off the ground. Mark Sanchez not
- 25:44Speaker 1: expecting it, and it was the backside of Brandon Moore
- 25:48Speaker 1: to knock the ball out. Well, there it is were
- 25:51Speaker 1: you we were at that one, Paul was That's so
- 25:52Speaker 1: when you were I was up in the No that
- 25:54Speaker 1: was we were doing pre impost game at the time,
- 25:56Speaker 1: and I was up in one of the conference rooms
- 25:58Speaker 1: watching Yeah, Andy, and I just sitting there saying, I
- 26:00Speaker 1: can't I can't believe I'm wasting my Thanksgiving night on
- 26:03Speaker 1: this game. It's like eight hundred to nothing, which and
- 26:06Speaker 1: like that wasn't even like alone is the terrible plays everything.
- 26:09Speaker 1: They scored three touchdowns in fifty six seconds, So I
- 26:13Speaker 1: believe it was the butt fumble followed by who's the gentleman,
- 26:19Speaker 1: who's the Jag running back Joe McKnight. I want to
- 26:21Speaker 1: say fumbled, the kick returned on the writing and sewing
- 26:26Speaker 1: kickoff Edelman returned it for a touchdown, and then I
- 26:30Speaker 1: believe they went three and out in the Patriots through
- 26:32Speaker 1: a little swing pass to Shane Vereen for like one
- 26:35Speaker 1: hundred and eleven yard touchdown. It's like an eighty something
- 26:38Speaker 1: yard touchdown. There's good three touchdowns in fifty six seconds.
- 26:41Speaker 1: Three comedy of arras, comedy of as. I would love
- 26:43Speaker 1: to see that now. I mean, they're gonna they could
- 26:46Speaker 1: use they could use a couple of plays like that.
- 26:49Speaker 1: Let's go to William and film right now, checking in says, hey, William,
- 26:52Speaker 1: what's going on? What's going on? Pretty good? Pretty good? Okay?
- 26:57Speaker 1: All right, Um so I'll say, what a game? Jeezus?
- 27:04Speaker 1: Another close another close one? Gee? Um at one at
- 27:10Speaker 1: how I said at one point, basically, I just want
- 27:14Speaker 1: to say that this team is going to get exposed
- 27:18Speaker 1: and need of me. Y'all them pictures and filter. You're
- 27:22Speaker 1: not gonna be laughing telling me that it's not gonna
- 27:25Speaker 1: be the how long you think you're gonna keep this up?
- 27:28Speaker 1: The team is going to get exposed more than ever.
- 27:30Speaker 1: All right, it's bad enough you can't really push the
- 27:32Speaker 1: ball down the field or anything. The defense gonna get
- 27:36Speaker 1: tired out. You know what I mean. If you remember
- 27:38Speaker 1: how the Jaguars was at one one time they had
- 27:40Speaker 1: exposive defense. The offense was all right when they had
- 27:44Speaker 1: Blake Bortles and whatnot, but look what happened somewhere later?
- 27:47Speaker 1: They got tired. The defense can't keep it up forever.
- 27:50Speaker 1: So at some point, you know what I mean. I'm
- 27:53Speaker 1: just I'm just going in, like you know my effectation.
- 27:56Speaker 1: I don't have enough for this team. I didn't have
- 27:58Speaker 1: enough when the season and start, you know, when they
- 28:01Speaker 1: was putting the roster together and knowing that, I was
- 28:03Speaker 1: just there's no way I'm going to It's enough for
- 28:05Speaker 1: I see about this team. It's like, I'm just we're playing.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Every time we play a team and we we family
- 28:11Speaker 1: get to, we get to, we get through. Okay, we're
- 28:13Speaker 1: gonna get disposed at some point, ladies and gentlemen, so
- 28:16Speaker 1: we're gonna see. If it's funny, then ye have a
- 28:18Speaker 1: good one. Yo. Thanks. Sounded ominous, kind of sound like
- 28:22Speaker 1: a warning is warning y'all be careful. I just would
- 28:26Speaker 1: say the only only, my only account of that is
- 28:28Speaker 1: I would take Jack Jacksonville season. I would take that
- 28:31Speaker 1: in a heartbeat, like that team was missed, referees call
- 28:35Speaker 1: away from going to the super Bowl. R Miles Jack
- 28:38Speaker 1: picks up that fumble and runs it back for a touchdown.
- 28:40Speaker 1: That game's over. Yeah, I mean, you know, losing in
- 28:44Speaker 1: the conference championship game right now, you know people wouldn't
- 28:48Speaker 1: sign up for our season like that. I would take that.
- 28:49Speaker 1: I want to get into the class. But I get
- 28:51Speaker 1: his point, and I feel, yes, I get his point.
- 28:54Speaker 1: That's why during the Jets game, especially with those possessions
- 28:56Speaker 1: as we were coming down in the fourth quarter, it
- 28:58Speaker 1: was like, oh, boy, don't fail us now, guys, don't
- 29:01Speaker 1: fail us now, because it just felt like, and I
- 29:02Speaker 1: mean I said it a couple of times, I felt like,
- 29:04Speaker 1: here comes a shot to Garrett Wilson, you know, and
- 29:06Speaker 1: that was what that game hung on. And so you know,
- 29:10Speaker 1: when I think we're none of us are any illusion
- 29:12Speaker 1: of what happens if the defense comes out with a
- 29:14Speaker 1: slow start against the next you know, against Minnesota, against Buffalo,
- 29:18Speaker 1: you know, against these teams, a fourteen nothing hole. It's
- 29:21Speaker 1: I mean, you're staring up up the top of the
- 29:23Speaker 1: mountain right there. Um. But I get the point. Um,
- 29:28Speaker 1: you know, I just I just wonder if Minnesota can
- 29:29Speaker 1: do it, you know. And that's what we're kind of
- 29:31Speaker 1: getting into today with the with the Vikings. And you know,
- 29:34Speaker 1: I pulled a couple interesting stats I thought, and I
- 29:38Speaker 1: just want to throw this, did you know, if not
- 29:40Speaker 1: not so much a stat as much as um, you know,
- 29:44Speaker 1: some of the comparisons. I mean, and obviously no last
- 29:46Speaker 1: week is last week, but you know, just as far
- 29:48Speaker 1: as like the comparisons between the two offenses, I mean,
- 29:51Speaker 1: they were both completely dreadful last year. Um, but you know,
- 29:55Speaker 1: looking at the Vikings, seeing Justin Jefferson, a player that
- 29:59Speaker 1: Fred tak about that, everybody that calls in here, anyone
- 30:02Speaker 1: if you want Jefsin Jefferson on the Patriots, I mean,
- 30:03Speaker 1: of course, right Bill, Bill called what he's done so
- 30:05Speaker 1: far historic history. I think anybody here would probably take
- 30:09Speaker 1: Dalvin Cook. I mean maybe not over Vermond er Stevenson,
- 30:12Speaker 1: but but somewhere around there, right, Like, I mean, yeah,
- 30:14Speaker 1: I mean this there's an argument to be made. Adam Feeling.
- 30:16Speaker 1: Is anybody taking I mean, you're taking him to love
- 30:19Speaker 1: him as much, but he should probably take him over
- 30:21Speaker 1: Baby just about anybody but Jacobe Myers, right like, yeah,
- 30:24Speaker 1: I mean, would you take Hawkinson over Hunter Henry and
- 30:26Speaker 1: John H. Smith? Yeah? Probably? So what's the disconnect? Like,
- 30:30Speaker 1: because I feel like, why don't they score? What we're
- 30:32Speaker 1: looking at right now is the perfect scenario for the
- 30:35Speaker 1: Patriots with mac Jones, Because everybody compares Kirk Cousins to
- 30:38Speaker 1: Mac Jones. Oh you know, he's Kirk Cousins. So all right,
- 30:41Speaker 1: this is mac Jones. Is this what we're hoping for?
- 30:44Speaker 1: Because it's not that great, you know, I mean, agreeing
- 30:46Speaker 1: people this all year. So what's the disconnect in Minnesota,
- 30:50Speaker 1: and is the problem the quarterback? And are we stupid
- 30:52Speaker 1: to think that if we just get a Justin Jefferson
- 30:54Speaker 1: with Mac Jones, that we're gonna be a top five
- 30:56Speaker 1: offense in the league. Yeah, you will be a top
- 30:59Speaker 1: five offense if the quarterback becomes a top five quarterback. Yep.
- 31:04Speaker 1: And I'm not dismissing that from Mac Jones. If the
- 31:06Speaker 1: pass protection improves and all that stuff and he gets
- 31:09Speaker 1: a structure around him, maybe he has Maybe he has
- 31:13Speaker 1: that in him. But that's the way why he looked
- 31:15Speaker 1: at Alabama. He had everything that he needed. He had
- 31:18Speaker 1: a great line, great talent around him, like it was
- 31:20Speaker 1: a really everything was perfect. Yeah, But I mean that
- 31:23Speaker 1: that just doesn't happen in the NFL, though, Like you're
- 31:25Speaker 1: just never going to go into an NFL game and
- 31:27Speaker 1: have way more talent than I mean, maybe playing like
- 31:29Speaker 1: the Jags or something back in the day, but everybody
- 31:31Speaker 1: not in real games, Like you're not going to run
- 31:33Speaker 1: roughly because you're so much more talented than everybody you play, Right.
- 31:37Speaker 1: But at the same time, you probably look at Minnesota
- 31:39Speaker 1: and I'm sure there are plenty of callers that call
- 31:40Speaker 1: in here that would just you know, all day would
- 31:42Speaker 1: tell you how much more talented Minnesota is than the Patriots,
- 31:44Speaker 1: and they're probably right. I just the question though, the
- 31:47Speaker 1: other question, not comparing to the Patriots is just thirteenth
- 31:50Speaker 1: in points, eighteenth in yards, nineteenth in Dvoa. You know, like,
- 31:54Speaker 1: what what's the disconnect? You know? Is is it all
- 31:56Speaker 1: on Cousins? Is that? I think Cousins is average, But
- 32:00Speaker 1: I also think the only special player is Justin Jefferson,
- 32:04Speaker 1: And it's hard to just like, I don't think they
- 32:05Speaker 1: have a great offensive line. I don't think Adam Feelin's
- 32:08Speaker 1: the same guy. I don't think he's the same player.
- 32:13Speaker 1: You know, maybe with Hawkinson, maybe he's better than Irf Smith,
- 32:16Speaker 1: so maybe they can get to a better level. They
- 32:19Speaker 1: don't run the ball great. I mean, Delvid Cook is
- 32:22Speaker 1: a big play kind of running back who I really like.
- 32:25Speaker 1: But I don't think they consistently run the ball great.
- 32:27Speaker 1: Their numbers aren't aren't great. I don't know. Maybe it
- 32:31Speaker 1: is all about the offensive line. Maybe that's it's simple,
- 32:34Speaker 1: simple solution. But I think that if you had, you know,
- 32:39Speaker 1: a better quarterback in place there in Minnesota, I think
- 32:41Speaker 1: the offense would be better Dad, you mentioned the word explosive.
- 32:44Speaker 1: That's something that stood out to me the last couple
- 32:45Speaker 1: of days. Bill, the guys talking yesterday, explosive, explosive, explosive.
- 32:49Speaker 1: It seems like taking away the big plays, it's going
- 32:53Speaker 1: to be a big priority this week. I mean, he
- 32:54Speaker 1: talked about justin Jefferson, some of the plays. He's as
- 32:56Speaker 1: covered as you can possibly cover somebody, and he's still
- 33:00Speaker 1: making plays. Um. But I think, especially when you talk
- 33:02Speaker 1: about that eighty one was eighty one yards, I think
- 33:04Speaker 1: Dalvin Cook ran against Buffalo that that got them back
- 33:07Speaker 1: into the game untouched. It looked like, I mean, shot
- 33:10Speaker 1: like a rocket up the sideline. But you know, that's
- 33:12Speaker 1: I think the kind of things that I mean, clearly
- 33:14Speaker 1: the Patriots aren't can't handle that. If they're giving up
- 33:16Speaker 1: big plays, big scores, getting in holes with you know,
- 33:19Speaker 1: no time involved, it's it's it's not not a good situation.
- 33:22Speaker 1: My one fear in this game is just the fatigue factor.
- 33:26Speaker 1: And you know, a short week, you got to travel.
- 33:29Speaker 1: I think Thursday night games for the road team are tough,
- 33:32Speaker 1: and I think when you add in the fact that
- 33:34Speaker 1: it's a team that they are overly familiar with, you
- 33:37Speaker 1: know that. That's my one fear. I think that this
- 33:39Speaker 1: was a regular week, I i'd really be bullish. I'm
- 33:43Speaker 1: picking the Patriots. I'll tell you now where we'll do
- 33:45Speaker 1: our picks tomorrow. I'm I'm picking the Patriots to win
- 33:47Speaker 1: this game, and I don't I would not consider it
- 33:50Speaker 1: an upset if the Patriots winning. I'm like, I was
- 33:53Speaker 1: a little bit obviously coming off the Vikings emotional win
- 33:57Speaker 1: over the Bills, I was a little bit surprised that
- 34:00Speaker 1: they lost the way they did against the Cowboys. I mean,
- 34:03Speaker 1: not as not surprised that they lost, but forty to three,
- 34:06Speaker 1: Like yeah, seven sacks. I mean, it's it's it's remarkable.
- 34:09Speaker 1: Like I said before, like what you know, I mean,
- 34:11Speaker 1: I'm not trying to make the comparison, but just you know,
- 34:14Speaker 1: based on what they did, I mean, both teams put
- 34:17Speaker 1: up three points. Patriots had two ninety seven, the Vikings
- 34:19Speaker 1: had one eighty three. Patriots are four for fifteen on
- 34:22Speaker 1: third down, the Vikings were one for eleven. Uh, none
- 34:25Speaker 1: of the team. The Patriots are over two in the
- 34:27Speaker 1: red zone, Vikings world for on turnovers they had seven
- 34:29Speaker 1: set they just won on the first drive, but it
- 34:33Speaker 1: was the pressure, I think, and just the losing their
- 34:36Speaker 1: left hand defense is not very good. Michael Parsons is no,
- 34:39Speaker 1: the Vikings defense, it's not very good. I mean statistically
- 34:43Speaker 1: there you know, you know Bill was raving about the
- 34:45Speaker 1: secondary they had thirty first in the league. See, these
- 34:49Speaker 1: are the things that like vone Fredzierry gets mad at
- 34:51Speaker 1: me for pointing out, you know, when he talks about
- 34:54Speaker 1: when you play like Green Bay and you held him
- 34:56Speaker 1: to quote held him to twenty seven, but he ignores
- 34:58Speaker 1: the fact that they average eighteen. Do you know what
- 35:01Speaker 1: I mean? Yea, Like those are the kinds of things
- 35:04Speaker 1: this is. This is a defense to This is a
- 35:07Speaker 1: get right week for the Patriots offense. And I know
- 35:09Speaker 1: that saying a lot. I know it's a dangerous, dangerous
- 35:12Speaker 1: assumption I'm making and maybe people will be, you know,
- 35:16Speaker 1: making fun of me Thursday night on the postgame show
- 35:18Speaker 1: when they go out and score ten more points. But no,
- 35:21Speaker 1: but I think, but at least the glimpse of Mac
- 35:24Speaker 1: Jones kind of looking like twenty twenty one Mac Jones
- 35:26Speaker 1: in this game, you know, like I'm a little bit
- 35:28Speaker 1: more willing to say that that maybe they will be
- 35:31Speaker 1: able to execute those kind of you know, schemes and
- 35:33Speaker 1: short passing game and all those things that he's good.
- 35:36Speaker 1: I just like hearing Paul say how their secondary isn't
- 35:39Speaker 1: that great or their defense isn't that great. It's like
- 35:42Speaker 1: I'm interested to see, like how they were able to
- 35:44Speaker 1: like fool, I guess Josh Allen didn't he have two
- 35:46Speaker 1: interceptions in that game? Or they were they with thirty
- 35:48Speaker 1: whatever points? Like true? You know, like they can't stop
- 35:52Speaker 1: they can't stop anybody. I mean, you can get ten rivers,
- 35:55Speaker 1: will you know, always be the equalizer. But they didn't
- 35:58Speaker 1: slow down Buffalo's offense at all in that game. It
- 36:01Speaker 1: feels like we're their trap game. It wasn't for forty
- 36:05Speaker 1: if they hadn't just lost forty to three. Yeah, see,
- 36:07Speaker 1: I think that works for the Patriots advantage. I think
- 36:09Speaker 1: they would shook. I mean, you lose forty to three
- 36:12Speaker 1: at home, it's absolutely time to put it behind you,
- 36:16Speaker 1: either with a quick turnaround. And people have been calling
- 36:18Speaker 1: them kind of frauds all year or so now they're
- 36:20Speaker 1: like they were right about us year. I mean, I'll
- 36:26Speaker 1: just end to my left, we'll go. This is this
- 36:29Speaker 1: is my favorite stat for the Vikings, and I know,
- 36:31Speaker 1: everybody's like, Oh, he's just trolling. He's trolling. I don't
- 36:34Speaker 1: do that. I'm not. I just I deal in what
- 36:37Speaker 1: I think. Pause the receipts. I love it. But this
- 36:41Speaker 1: is the only team in the history of the NFL
- 36:44Speaker 1: that's kind of a long time, that has ever had
- 36:46Speaker 1: an eight and two record or better and been outscored.
- 36:50Speaker 1: It's the only time ever because that's happen. They've They've
- 36:56Speaker 1: won eighty percent of their games and have been outscored.
- 37:00Speaker 1: Like it's kind of weird because I think if if
- 37:02Speaker 1: a team like the Patriots were doing that and didn't
- 37:05Speaker 1: have the elite talent, you'd be kind of like, this
- 37:07Speaker 1: is all smoke and mirrors. This is when we're doing
- 37:09Speaker 1: around here to our own team, right like people are
- 37:11Speaker 1: doing it to the Patriots, and rightly so. Like three
- 37:14Speaker 1: backup quarterbacks, they've beaten so of the Vikings, they've beaten
- 37:18Speaker 1: a lot of backup quarterbacks. They're beating a lot of
- 37:20Speaker 1: teams that are and that They've had a lot of
- 37:22Speaker 1: close games against bad teams that could have gone either way,
- 37:25Speaker 1: like the Commanders one. Actually, I honestly thought that Taylor
- 37:28Speaker 1: Honeke was going to pull that one out. Yeah, I
- 37:30Speaker 1: mean it's easier, it's easier to kind of not believe
- 37:33Speaker 1: that narrative because you've got talent, like you know, you've
- 37:34Speaker 1: got Justin Jefferson like he's doing the greedy like you
- 37:37Speaker 1: feel great. But at the same time, but that's probably
- 37:40Speaker 1: the most every probably the best win. And now what
- 37:43Speaker 1: is green Bay? There were three and seventeen, you know,
- 37:46Speaker 1: like everybody looked at them. Wow, they blew doors off
- 37:48Speaker 1: of Green Bay in week one? Yeah, they did, so
- 37:51Speaker 1: does everybody else except the Patriots. We were calling it
- 37:55Speaker 1: a quote unquote moral victory to lose to them, and
- 37:58Speaker 1: that that just hasn't totally know it's but I mean,
- 38:00Speaker 1: I think that we're willing to pick apart the Patriots
- 38:02Speaker 1: and for all their flaws because this is our team.
- 38:05Speaker 1: But everybody's like, oh, Vikings eating too, They're great, they
- 38:08Speaker 1: have a lot of flaws. Let's go back to the
- 38:10Speaker 1: phones and uh here from Eldred down to North Carolina.
- 38:13Speaker 1: Hell there, what's going on? Hey, tell us, how y'all do? Good?
- 38:18Speaker 1: Good lady, let me give you some insights into the Viking. Okay, yeah,
- 38:23Speaker 1: the reason why the Cowboys dumped them like that they
- 38:26Speaker 1: know Kirk cuz they played against when we were Washington,
- 38:29Speaker 1: and like like one of my like my families say,
- 38:31Speaker 1: the only thing you gotta do is pressure him, get
- 38:34Speaker 1: to him, he'll freak out. But against the Bills, it
- 38:37Speaker 1: was it was a personal thing because they got tired
- 38:39Speaker 1: of people saying you want to beat back up quarterbacks,
- 38:42Speaker 1: so they had to beat the Bill and the Bills.
- 38:47Speaker 1: I mean it was color what it was. They were
- 38:48Speaker 1: down seventeen in the fourth quarter and Josh Allen fumbled
- 38:51Speaker 1: a snap in the end zone, like that was a fluid.
- 38:53Speaker 1: But if it was personal, yeah, they said it was personal.
- 38:56Speaker 1: But anyway, do you think we can score like like
- 38:58Speaker 1: the Cowboys did? Like our offense get like the Cowboy No,
- 39:02Speaker 1: I don't think they can score forty points without turnover snow, Okay, okay,
- 39:06Speaker 1: no turnover. They show that they can score seventeen yet great,
- 39:10Speaker 1: you know what I mean, I mean, just the offense,
- 39:12Speaker 1: not not big leg Nick, not with the defense. I'm sorry, no,
- 39:19Speaker 1: doctor late, that's Nick Foles. You know what I mean?
- 39:22Speaker 1: You have dating both. So what I'm so, what I'm
- 39:26Speaker 1: saying is, you know I don't like this game on Thanksgiving?
- 39:30Speaker 1: I know that eight thirty and you know how how
- 39:33Speaker 1: we do back with Brady. We we play a team,
- 39:36Speaker 1: we pulled the beat, but we lost. Then the next
- 39:38Speaker 1: team next game was to get right game. That's what
- 39:41Speaker 1: I'm feeling about. Just get right with Minnesota. You might
- 39:43Speaker 1: be right I feel about it. I'm not telling you
- 39:46Speaker 1: that there's no possible way the Patriots can lose this game.
- 39:48Speaker 1: I'm worried about the short week road trip and all that.
- 39:50Speaker 1: I'm worried about this game. I think the Patriots are
- 39:53Speaker 1: just as good as Minnesota, even though there are two
- 39:56Speaker 1: games difference in the standings. I think it's just the
- 39:58Speaker 1: thanks Elder, appreciate it. I hope you didn't have another
- 40:01Speaker 1: question there on the drap. Okay, so this makes me
- 40:05Speaker 1: want to ask. I don't even know who asked this
- 40:06Speaker 1: question last week, but Paul, would you take Kirk Cousins
- 40:12Speaker 1: or Mac Jones? I would take mac Jones. But there's
- 40:14Speaker 1: no pause there, no because because I know what Kirk
- 40:18Speaker 1: Cousins is. And I think there's a chance now you
- 40:22Speaker 1: you you're gonna ask me how confident I am not
- 40:24Speaker 1: very but I think there's a chance that we don't
- 40:26Speaker 1: know what mac Jones is yet and he could get
- 40:28Speaker 1: to a level that's better than Kirk Cousins. Yeah, so
- 40:31Speaker 1: I would take Kirk. I would take Mac Jones because
- 40:33Speaker 1: I think there's an unknown quality there Kirk. Also, he's
- 40:36Speaker 1: just like the ultimate, like he probably won't win you
- 40:39Speaker 1: a game, he probably won't lose a game. He's just
- 40:42Speaker 1: the barometer. He's the face of it. And we want
- 40:45Speaker 1: Mac to be better than that, right, Yeah, Ultimately, you
- 40:48Speaker 1: want your quarterback to be better than just okay, And
- 40:51Speaker 1: you know, I think that's all king enough people are
- 40:54Speaker 1: talking about the Kirk Cousins primetime effet. I was just
- 40:56Speaker 1: going to bring that up, and you know, a couple
- 40:58Speaker 1: points though, ten and eighteen career record in primetime game
- 41:01Speaker 1: six and nine one Minnesota four and nine. Watching it. However,
- 41:04Speaker 1: I haven't heard any mention of this in with Washington
- 41:07Speaker 1: in twenty sixteen against Dallas, he did throw for four
- 41:09Speaker 1: hundred and forty nine yards in an l Maybe it's
- 41:13Speaker 1: just like Peyton Manning, like you know, uh sorry, he
- 41:17Speaker 1: did lose that game thirty one, twenty six He did
- 41:18Speaker 1: beat the Giants in twenty seventeen on the night game.
- 41:21Speaker 1: It wasn't quite the epic passing performance, but yes, he
- 41:24Speaker 1: did fall short. And interesting, Yeah, so he has had
- 41:27Speaker 1: he's had some struggles and I'll even you know, and
- 41:29Speaker 1: I don't have the numbers for it. I'm assuming what
- 41:32Speaker 1: was the what was the record at ten and eighteen.
- 41:35Speaker 1: I'm just assuming that those twenty eight games are all
- 41:38Speaker 1: actual night games. I actually count a game like Sunday
- 41:43Speaker 1: when it's a four to twenty five start on you know,
- 41:45Speaker 1: one of those you know, an NFL Game of the
- 41:48Speaker 1: week whatever they call it, the Fox, you know, football
- 41:52Speaker 1: game of a Week or whatever, and they lose forty
- 41:54Speaker 1: to three. Like I know, it wasn't a primetime game
- 41:56Speaker 1: per se, but that was a national game with everybody
- 42:00Speaker 1: everybody was watching. You're eating one Vikings go against what
- 42:04Speaker 1: everybody thinks is a pretty good team in Dallas, and
- 42:07Speaker 1: you didn't even compete, especially because that was a home game. Yeah,
- 42:12Speaker 1: I was just a little bit I don't know, like
- 42:15Speaker 1: I was. I was all in on Dallas in that game,
- 42:18Speaker 1: but like you said earlier in the show Tomorrow, I
- 42:20Speaker 1: didn't expect you know, thirty four seventeen, you know, like
- 42:26Speaker 1: you know, like the other team is better than you.
- 42:27Speaker 1: I thought Dallas was better, but not like that. Yeah,
- 42:30Speaker 1: let's go back to the phones. Mark from Bolton, Hey, Mark,
- 42:32Speaker 1: what's going on? Hey, guys had a couple of things. Um,
- 42:36Speaker 1: I'm a Mac defender, but not an apologist. Um, I
- 42:41Speaker 1: think he's there is a fine line there, sure, sure, yeah,
- 42:46Speaker 1: makes sense. Well, I mean I think that the show
- 42:49Speaker 1: shocking started in training camp. Um I was there six times.
- 42:53Speaker 1: You know, there was just he just was getting broken
- 42:56Speaker 1: in on. But I think he came out of that
- 42:59Speaker 1: a little bit against the Jets in that his feet
- 43:02Speaker 1: were more solid. Yea, and okay, took some sacks, but
- 43:07Speaker 1: I mean those were pretty quick sacks. Yep. Um my
- 43:12Speaker 1: point on the offense, though, My second point is in
- 43:16Speaker 1: the red zone. If you want to score in the
- 43:18Speaker 1: red zone, you've got to get the ball to the
- 43:20Speaker 1: end zone. And they never get the ball to the
- 43:23Speaker 1: end zone. And some of it is because okay, there's
- 43:26Speaker 1: the holding penalty. They never get to the red zone.
- 43:28Speaker 1: Some of it is you know, he's Mac getting sacked.
- 43:31Speaker 1: But you got to get the ball in the end
- 43:33Speaker 1: zone if you want to score. It's like playing the lottery,
- 43:35Speaker 1: you know. Yeah, I would agree. I would agree they
- 43:39Speaker 1: don't get to the red zone enough to give themselves
- 43:42Speaker 1: chances to score. They got to the red zone twice Sunday. Yeah,
- 43:45Speaker 1: the other team, which had the single worst offensive performance
- 43:48Speaker 1: I think i've ever seen, got to the red zone once.
- 43:53Speaker 1: But even when they get there, I mean, even when
- 43:56Speaker 1: they get there, you've got to get the You gotta
- 43:59Speaker 1: you guys throw the ball into the end zone, or
- 44:00Speaker 1: you've got to have a play that uh you know,
- 44:03Speaker 1: Okay Blans or something. Yeah, I know there's a there's
- 44:08Speaker 1: a lot of Again, I think that the number one
- 44:11Speaker 1: problem is coaching. I do um so I'm with Mark
- 44:15Speaker 1: in general, but there's been a lot of the play
- 44:18Speaker 1: calling in the red zone short circuits them, and it's
- 44:22Speaker 1: not entirely the fault of the coaches. Like I mentioned,
- 44:25Speaker 1: the first time they got down there on Sunday, it's
- 44:27Speaker 1: first and ten from the fifteen yard line. First snap
- 44:32Speaker 1: they got called. They could call for a Peltic, but
- 44:34Speaker 1: but it wasn't holding. No one missed a block. It
- 44:37Speaker 1: was illegal formation. Like I'm sorry, that's not Matt Patricia's fault.
- 44:43Speaker 1: That's not Bill Belichick's fault. Like, so all of a sudden,
- 44:46Speaker 1: now it's first and fifteen. They threw the ball three times.
- 44:51Speaker 1: You know it was incomplete, and then they ended up
- 44:54Speaker 1: short of getting the fifteen They ended up with fourteen yards,
- 44:57Speaker 1: and that was the drive that they lined up up
- 45:00Speaker 1: to go for it. Change their minds or whatever called
- 45:02Speaker 1: time out and wound up kicking the field goal, which
- 45:05Speaker 1: thank god, because otherwise you may have lost the game
- 45:08Speaker 1: three nothing if you didn't kick that field goal on
- 45:11Speaker 1: the fourth and fourth and inches in the start of
- 45:14Speaker 1: the second quarter. But there's too many negative plays when
- 45:17Speaker 1: they get down in the red zone and it's hard
- 45:19Speaker 1: to throw the ball into the end zone when you're
- 45:20Speaker 1: going backwards. Absolutely. Yeah, yeah, I mean they had a
- 45:24Speaker 1: third and two, and you know, I feel like the
- 45:28Speaker 1: ninth Yeah, that was the other time they were in
- 45:30Speaker 1: the red zone and Marcus right on it. Third and two,
- 45:34Speaker 1: Yadney Kuld just gets beaten immediately and Mac is forced
- 45:37Speaker 1: to scramble. May or may not had the first I
- 45:40Speaker 1: think officially on the game book it says he got
- 45:42Speaker 1: three yards. I thought he was short live when we
- 45:44Speaker 1: were there, but a call for holding, so now it's
- 45:49Speaker 1: third and twelve, and then they get sacked again in
- 45:51Speaker 1: our out of field goal range. Like the offensive line,
- 45:56Speaker 1: the play calling, the structure of the offense. I'm sorry,
- 46:00Speaker 1: but the play off Mac Jones is also part of it. Um.
- 46:04Speaker 1: They have They have a litany at problems. They have
- 46:06Speaker 1: a lot of things going wrong. Thanks, Mark, appreciate the call. Uh.
- 46:10Speaker 1: And it's crazy because in the pregame show, I was like, Wow,
- 46:12Speaker 1: this is going to be the first game that mac
- 46:14Speaker 1: Jones is going to have like his offensive lineback, everyone
- 46:18Speaker 1: everyone healthy. And later Yeah, I know, I was watching
- 46:22Speaker 1: a little of that game last night and just kind
- 46:23Speaker 1: of watching Trent Williams a little bit of you know what,
- 46:26Speaker 1: like a really badass was still tipped? Was he still
- 46:28Speaker 1: tipping the place? I didn't see that a problem? Was
- 46:31Speaker 1: that a problem? Or when you can block a guy,
- 46:34Speaker 1: it doesn't really matter if he knows what's coming. Yeah,
- 46:35Speaker 1: And that's and it's just it. It frustrated me because
- 46:38Speaker 1: I know, Paul, we've done the draft the last few years,
- 46:40Speaker 1: and I think we've talked a lot about the need
- 46:42Speaker 1: for offensive tackle and the need to kind of establish
- 46:45Speaker 1: some stability there. And Isaiah Win, regardless of what you
- 46:48Speaker 1: think of him, he's never lived up to the first
- 46:50Speaker 1: round billing that you selected him. And it feels like you,
- 46:54Speaker 1: you know, those days of Matt Light drafting him in
- 46:58Speaker 1: the first round, and then he plays ten years, drafting
- 47:00Speaker 1: Nate Solder and he plays, you know whatever, he played
- 47:02Speaker 1: seven eight years for you. They just have gotten away,
- 47:06Speaker 1: like they've gotten away from the preparation. Like it was
- 47:09Speaker 1: Matt Light you knew, and then years you know he's
- 47:12Speaker 1: coming to the end. And a year before that, when
- 47:15Speaker 1: you have Matt Lytton Sebastian Volmer establishes your tackles, we're
- 47:18Speaker 1: gonna take Nate's Solder because whether it's this year, next year,
- 47:22Speaker 1: or the year after that, we're gonna need Nate's Solder
- 47:24Speaker 1: to step in for one of these guys. It's an
- 47:25Speaker 1: important position, right, and Solder ended up playing quite a
- 47:28Speaker 1: bit as a rookie as an extra tackle tight end.
- 47:31Speaker 1: Then I think he replaced Volmer. I got hurt and
- 47:34Speaker 1: you were ready to go, and then Light retired and
- 47:37Speaker 1: bang you had Solder. Now it's like we went in
- 47:41Speaker 1: like thinking that Trent Brown and Isaiah Wynn were going
- 47:44Speaker 1: to be seventeen games stalwarts when they've never done that,
- 47:48Speaker 1: and then we flipped sides and we put now and
- 47:50Speaker 1: now evidently reportedly Trent Brown didn't start the game for
- 47:56Speaker 1: coaching decisions like somehopley of the bye yeah right, so
- 48:02Speaker 1: which again and they don't have an option. We think
- 48:05Speaker 1: something happened after the during the preseason two when he
- 48:07Speaker 1: was mysteriously not dressed for the same night that Kendrick
- 48:10Speaker 1: Bonne got all the attention. Trent Brown wasn't dressed that
- 48:13Speaker 1: night against Carolina. So it's just it's it's frustrating because
- 48:17Speaker 1: and I think, you know, and I will say, like
- 48:18Speaker 1: flip side of the coin, wrong about cornerback, Like I
- 48:21Speaker 1: felt like they really need a cornerback. They figured it out,
- 48:23Speaker 1: they were able to move Jonathan Jones. That's been you know,
- 48:26Speaker 1: that hasn't been a major problem yet, right. But I
- 48:29Speaker 1: would also say with that, I yes, I was wrong
- 48:33Speaker 1: about that. They ended up we should be you know,
- 48:36Speaker 1: fair because Jack Jones and Jonathan Jones have been able
- 48:40Speaker 1: to fill that void. I think it's more about the
- 48:43Speaker 1: front seven and the immense pressure you're putting on quarterbacks.
- 48:46Speaker 1: It speaks to your point to Paul, where you're like
- 48:48Speaker 1: the consistency and the preparation. It's like at corner we've
- 48:51Speaker 1: clearly for many years now been prepared for someone else
- 48:55Speaker 1: to move up be the next guy up. The training
- 48:58Speaker 1: and development is there, and it's just but where's But
- 49:01Speaker 1: even like even when it wasn't because I mean, you know,
- 49:03Speaker 1: I was banging the JC horn train a couple of
- 49:06Speaker 1: years ago, but like even when it wasn't as meticulously
- 49:08Speaker 1: planned out as Paul said, Like, they just are good
- 49:10Speaker 1: at developing guys. That is one spot that they've had
- 49:12Speaker 1: good young Jonathan, you know, like Jack, So they just
- 49:17Speaker 1: and like so as much as we kind of panic
- 49:19Speaker 1: about not having that whole queue kind of filled up,
- 49:22Speaker 1: all right, well there's the next guy. We just roll in.
- 49:23Speaker 1: Like I think they've been good enough to coach up
- 49:25Speaker 1: and and maybe that's what they thought that and they've
- 49:27Speaker 1: been better at that at that position. They've been better
- 49:30Speaker 1: at the undrafted guys, the mid to late round guys,
- 49:34Speaker 1: than they have the early picks. The early picks have
- 49:36Speaker 1: not panned out at cornerback, which another you know, we
- 49:39Speaker 1: get these emails here from from the NFL that just
- 49:41Speaker 1: kind of point out killing everywhere. And I don't know
- 49:48Speaker 1: that I like paper though sometimes definitely I'm I'm making
- 49:54Speaker 1: I'm making fun of Mike. But I have all my
- 49:56Speaker 1: stuff in front of me, type the game book and
- 49:58Speaker 1: random good morning boomer. Mine cracks me up because he
- 50:01Speaker 1: has his little like printed like planner well done, well done,
- 50:05Speaker 1: right there. I just bought a new one two Tamarri.
- 50:06Speaker 1: It's a new two years. So this is I think
- 50:08Speaker 1: my fifth different book of two year little paper calendar
- 50:11Speaker 1: that I'm always like kind of nerding out and looking.
- 50:13Speaker 1: He lost it for a few days and I think
- 50:16Speaker 1: he remember, remember I was just walking aimlessly through the halls,
- 50:21Speaker 1: like I don't know where I'm supposed to be. I
- 50:22Speaker 1: don't have my paper calendar. That's how I feel about
- 50:24Speaker 1: my iPad too. See, I'm more of like a Google
- 50:27Speaker 1: Apple calendar gal, like I can see it on my phone,
- 50:30Speaker 1: and I like that stuff too. I just there's just
- 50:31Speaker 1: like something about having a calendar that I can just
- 50:33Speaker 1: like whip out and look at at anytime I want
- 50:35Speaker 1: to start writing. It's the physical writing down for the
- 50:38Speaker 1: pencils arresting. Let's put that calendar away. But back to
- 50:43Speaker 1: my point end, And they included this with the with
- 50:45Speaker 1: the email that we got just the next gen stats
- 50:47Speaker 1: that you know again, and I made the point I
- 50:49Speaker 1: think last week or the week before, Patriots have played
- 50:50Speaker 1: cover one on forty one percent of their cover snaps,
- 50:53Speaker 1: the only team to a click forty percent. So, I mean,
- 50:55Speaker 1: just again, so much conversation this year, they're gonna go
- 50:57Speaker 1: to more zone. They gotta play more zone. They can't
- 50:59Speaker 1: play me in like they don't care, like they just
- 51:01Speaker 1: kind of continue to do what they do some you know,
- 51:04Speaker 1: just some interesting, some interesting things. Justin Jefferson leads to
- 51:07Speaker 1: the NFL with plus one hundred and fifty five receiving
- 51:10Speaker 1: yards overexpected against cover one this season. He's tough. He's
- 51:13Speaker 1: tough to cover one on one. Yeah, And I would
- 51:15Speaker 1: be surprised if they tried to do that. And I
- 51:17Speaker 1: also am going to be very interested in the rest
- 51:20Speaker 1: of the way because the backups are done well as
- 51:27Speaker 1: of now. That will change because guys will get hurt.
- 51:31Speaker 1: But the backups are done and the just the really
- 51:35Speaker 1: like low octane offenses, yeah, are done. I mean, I
- 51:39Speaker 1: think even the bad teams that they play from here
- 51:42Speaker 1: on in have the ability to move the ball and
- 51:44Speaker 1: score some points, like the Raiders in the in the Cardinals,
- 51:47Speaker 1: like they're bad teams, but you could certainly understand, like
- 51:51Speaker 1: if you went to if they go to Arizona and
- 51:54Speaker 1: Kyler Murray's back healthy and he's throwing the ball to
- 51:58Speaker 1: DeAndre Hopkins, you know in Ron del Moore, who, by
- 52:01Speaker 1: the way, got hurt less. I mean, just heaven decide. Sorry,
- 52:03Speaker 1: I never do this, as you know, I never do this.
- 52:06Speaker 1: How do you Last night when he went out, I
- 52:09Speaker 1: lost by point two? Do you know why I lost
- 52:12Speaker 1: by point two? Because Ron del Moore got point minus six?
- 52:16Speaker 1: Oh yeah, negative points point six. He had one carry
- 52:20Speaker 1: for minus six yards and then left the game. If
- 52:24Speaker 1: he just didn't play, I would have won. If he
- 52:27Speaker 1: caught a pass for for a loss of six yards,
- 52:29Speaker 1: I would have won anyway. Yeah, so I'm not I'm
- 52:33Speaker 1: not bitter at all. But if you saw, yeah, I
- 52:36Speaker 1: hate I hate fash I hate fantasy. You are you
- 52:40Speaker 1: are right. You are right to make fun of me
- 52:41Speaker 1: for that. Well done by you two people. They can
- 52:44Speaker 1: accept that one though, because I think that that's enough
- 52:46Speaker 1: of a weird, tough loss and you're not like and
- 52:48Speaker 1: then I needed seven points from this guy, but I
- 52:50Speaker 1: benched him to put this guy you know I need.
- 52:52Speaker 1: I needed seventeen point nine points between DeAndre Hopkins in
- 52:56Speaker 1: in Ron del Moore. I got eighteen point one from Hikins.
- 53:00Speaker 1: Have lost Anyway, Um, if if if the Cardinals like
- 53:04Speaker 1: move the ball and they have success throwing the ball
- 53:07Speaker 1: to Hopkins and Moore in aj Green and even that
- 53:09Speaker 1: Greg Dortsch guy was was pretty good last night? Um
- 53:12Speaker 1: for the Cardinals. And you know James Connor is making plays.
- 53:15Speaker 1: I don't think people will say, Wow, that's embarrassing you
- 53:17Speaker 1: allowed that to That's that's a team that has the
- 53:20Speaker 1: ability to move the ball and score. Sam Ellinger with
- 53:23Speaker 1: without Jonathan Taylor did not have the ability to move
- 53:26Speaker 1: the ball. That's great. So there is gonna be there's
- 53:29Speaker 1: gonna be a change, and we'll see how the Patriots
- 53:33Speaker 1: adjust to the cover one. To illustrate all your numbers.
- 53:37Speaker 1: Can they pay some zone against the team, Can they
- 53:39Speaker 1: play differently or can they you know when when they're
- 53:42Speaker 1: actually tested, because I think in the handful of games
- 53:45Speaker 1: that they've been tested, they haven't looked great defensively. Grab
- 53:49Speaker 1: a call back to the phones. Todd from North Carolina,
- 53:51Speaker 1: Hey Todd, what's going on? Hey guys, was there a
- 53:54Speaker 1: chance John would have gotten in if when he fumbled
- 53:57Speaker 1: that ball? Yeah? So I think you had the whole sideline. Yeah,
- 54:04Speaker 1: so I did read Evans piece and he did say
- 54:07Speaker 1: that there seems to be a fair number of positive
- 54:09Speaker 1: things with respect to the offense and even max play.
- 54:13Speaker 1: So I don't know why, but I got a feeling
- 54:15Speaker 1: that we might actually be Okay. Well, I think this game,
- 54:18Speaker 1: this could be a win for us because I think
- 54:20Speaker 1: that if the defense can and how how do I
- 54:22Speaker 1: put it? In the pregame was by asked we play
- 54:26Speaker 1: if we play offense so that not to lose and
- 54:29Speaker 1: our defense steps up. Really well, I think we got
- 54:31Speaker 1: a shot in this game, especially if we can run
- 54:34Speaker 1: the ball. Yeah, I agree, all right, thanks Todd. I
- 54:38Speaker 1: mean I kind of divide these inner games of like,
- 54:40Speaker 1: you know, conventional offenses, mobile quarterbacks, and then just I
- 54:43Speaker 1: think Buffalo and Miami are their own thing. They're a
- 54:46Speaker 1: division opponent. You know very well we know what those
- 54:48Speaker 1: two offenses are capable of, But you know, I don't
- 54:51Speaker 1: I just think if the game unfolds right in a
- 54:53Speaker 1: game like Minnesota, you know, we'll see what Cincinnati they're
- 54:56Speaker 1: getting chased back. But you know, like Lamart, the thing
- 54:59Speaker 1: with Arizona, it's just Kyler Murray. They struggle with mobile quarterbacks,
- 55:02Speaker 1: you know what I mean? I just how how's that going?
- 55:03Speaker 1: What I'm saying, like, I know the Cardinals aren't a
- 55:06Speaker 1: good team, but I would rather play the Vikings than
- 55:08Speaker 1: the Cardinals. Yeah, me too, Like defensively, I'd rather play
- 55:12Speaker 1: the Vikings than the Cardinals. Let's take one more before
- 55:15Speaker 1: we take a little break. Go to Patty and I
- 55:17Speaker 1: go on, Hey, Patty, what's going on? Hey, what's going on? Everyone?
- 55:21Speaker 1: Not much, so just to sort of touch on what
- 55:25Speaker 1: you guys were talking about. Um when Bill said earlier
- 55:29Speaker 1: the season and during the season that this is sort
- 55:32Speaker 1: of on him, like the whole offensive philosophy and play
- 55:35Speaker 1: calling in et cetera, et cetera. Do you think at
- 55:38Speaker 1: some point, let's just say that they stagnate, they don't
- 55:40Speaker 1: they win maybe two or three more games for the
- 55:42Speaker 1: rest of the year. And I know Kyler brought this
- 55:45Speaker 1: up of a post game, but do you think perhaps
- 55:47Speaker 1: comes to Belichick after the season and says, look, this
- 55:50Speaker 1: is you know, this is your this is your business.
- 55:54Speaker 1: Let's figure it out because we have to be better
- 55:56Speaker 1: offensively because if we can't move the ball and score points,
- 55:59Speaker 1: we're not going to We're going to be in the
- 56:00Speaker 1: same situation we are next year than we are this year. Yeah. Thanks,
- 56:05Speaker 1: Patty appreciate it. Uh, I mean, I don't think anybody
- 56:07Speaker 1: needs to explain it to Bill like that, it's been terrible.
- 56:10Speaker 1: But I do think there's a chance that Robert would go,
- 56:12Speaker 1: do we need to do something more conventional in terms
- 56:15Speaker 1: of our offensive coaching staff? And I'm not sure how
- 56:18Speaker 1: that'll go, Like, I mean, get them some help. Can
- 56:20Speaker 1: we get Matt Patricia something? Guys think we'd go into
- 56:22Speaker 1: next situation with the same offensive I don't want to believe.
- 56:28Speaker 1: I mean, and I think that's why when we talk
- 56:30Speaker 1: about this speculation, it's like, well, at least bring an
- 56:32Speaker 1: offensive line coach in and just let Matt Patricia focus
- 56:35Speaker 1: on coordinating the offense and calling the plays rather than
- 56:39Speaker 1: you know, not only do you have to worry about
- 56:40Speaker 1: what the what the play sheet's going to look like,
- 56:42Speaker 1: but you got to worry about, you know, getting the
- 56:44Speaker 1: guys up front to protect and play better and all that.
- 56:48Speaker 1: So we're gonna take a quick break here, foods here.

- 1:07:32Speaker 1: enough and uh barthy, what were you guys running about?
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: I heard a little bit in the background there. I
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: got pretty fired up about Matt Patricia. I'm not gonna lie. Yeah,
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: I think this is an old belichickism that players win
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: games but coaches lose games. And in that game, if
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: they had lost, I would have put like probably seventy
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: five percent of the blame on the play caller. Now,
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: obviously some of it has to be on the offensive
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: line for giving up six acts, there's no doubt about that.
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: But in general, and we were talking about this upstairs
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: and I wrote about it, and after further review, they
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: have no foundation. There's nothing, there's no basis to this offense.
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: Like when you look around in the league and you
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: look around at the best offenses Buffalo, Kansas City, uh,
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: the forty nine ers, you can tell this is they
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: are a outside zone team. They are a spread offense,
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: Like this is what they do, Like, this is who
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: they are and yeah, they have different variations off of that,
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: and they have game planned wrinkles and all that good stuff.
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: But I'll ask, like, what is the Patriots offense? Like
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: what what are they? A random collection of plays that
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: they try to execute that that's the That's the way
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: it looks to me, Like what what are they? They
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: are wanted? I'm not enough. I mean, I'm being good serious.
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: I don't know offensive systems just to watch and say, oh,
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: that's this, that's that. But I did want to ask
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: you about some specific plays that they ran that I
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: hadn't really seen in terms of formations. I thought they
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: had success with the two tight ends in the backfield.
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: We talked about this little house, yes, and I think
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: twice it worked for big plays. Once, I think it
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: caught the edge for a twenty two yard run, and
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: I think they did a wrinkle off of that with
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: a little dump to John or Smith for like twenty
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: six Yeah, thirty yard run. Oh so it was a
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: thirty yard run that was off of that formation, not
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: the twenty two. Okay. So, Like my point was just
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: that you haven't been able to move the ball all year.
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: You haven't been able to score any points all year.
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: You didn't move the ballo score any points in that game,
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: but they dialed up some chunk plays, and I thought
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: they most of the chunk plays they got were dialed up,
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: schemed up with some things that the coaches did. So
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: am I a little giving him a little too much credit? No,
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: not at all. The full house package was a nice wrinkle,
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: and I think it's something that they can build on
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: moving forward. I think the big thing is when you
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: don't have a dominant offensive line, putting those two guys
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: in the backfield as basically fullbacks, it helps, right, it
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: just opens up bigger holes. Now, on Damien Harris's thirty
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: yard run, he actually bounces it right because the flow
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: the place sucks everybody into the into the trenches and
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: sas Gardener kind of gets pulled in a little bit
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: off the edge and he bounces it out the back
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: door and there's nobody there. So whether it's going straight
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: up the middle or it's bouncing it, you know, when
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: everybody gets sucked into the full back action or what
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: have you, that it generated an explosive And then later
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: on in the game you run the tight ends through
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: like you're doing the same exact thing. And what do
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: you know, the linebackers jump up to step up to
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: the run and he sneaked Johnny behind him and it's
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: a twenty six yard play action pass. So these are
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: the types of things that they put on tape that
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: you're like, Okay, this is complimentary. This is building. We're scheming,
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: we're sequencing, you know, this is coordinating an offense, this
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: is play calling. But then what happens is is they
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: get down to the Jets thirty yard line, let's call it.
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: And they've gotten down there by running the full house package,
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: by running the football and incorporating play action off of it.
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: And now we're in the shotgun. And so now all
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: of a sudden, we go from two back to back
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: explosive plays from under center to get into Jets territory
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: and we throw that out and we spread the field
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: and we go into the shotgun and mac Jones goes backwards.
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: And that, to me is the frustrating part, is that
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: there's no it's one play at a time right now
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: for them, right yeah, And I'm not telling you that.
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: You know, let's let's give these guys a pound on
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: the back. And they scored three points when they were
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: under three hundred yards, Like I'm not. I'm just saying
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: that it's a slog right now. So to find some
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: some chunk plays, at least to me, that was the
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: progress in that game. No that I know a lot
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: of other people like it looked much better. Don't think
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: it looked much better. I think they had some chunk
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: plays in the game, and I was very encouraged by that.
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: I think from a plate like to you a point, Evan,
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: from a play to play standpoint, the sequence of plays
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: didn't look all that much better than me. No, it
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: just doesn't have good offenses. Marry everything up right, everything
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: has a purpose because they're gonna run this and they're
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: gonna show you that, and they're gonna run something else
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: off of the same look. Okay, so everything is foundationally
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: put together like that where you know they ran the
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: fake toss bootleg they hit Hunter Henry for twenty yards. Yeah,
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: that was another one that I would put in there. Okay,
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: so they faked the toss to him, they bring him
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: in motion, and they bring him into the formation like
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: he's gonna crack block on a crack toss. It's exactly
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: what they would do in that situation. But instead they
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: hit play action. Great, so on the next play, run
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: crack toss, right, Like, that's how you build up these
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: types of things into an offense because now all of
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: a sudden, we've shown you the bootleg. We've shown you
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: that we actually will toss it. So now you got
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: to worry about both things, and then you sequence off
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: of that. So now maybe you know, you get cracked toss,
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: then you get a bootleg, then you get a rollback
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: play where they kind of toss it but he ends
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: up coming up back through the middle. Like this is
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: how you sequence together plays to move the football, and
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: this offense, it's like we're just picking plays out of
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: a hat, Like, okay, we ran a crack toss. Uh,
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: you know, fake to Hunter, Henry comes across the formation,
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: catches a twenty yard completion, and on the next play
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: where you do something completely unrelated and totally different to
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: the last play. Yeah, that's fair, that's fair. Let's hop
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: to the fund's real quick. Rashot and Baltimore had the
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: fortunate elect to call right as we broke for lunch,
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: ra shot where we're back, we're on what's going on? Yeah,
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: we'll stop up everybody, Hi, Hi, I just want to.
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: I definitely wanted to, So I'm not gonna I'm not
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: gonna be negative, but I gotta say, like, the offense
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: like it is, it is what I thought it's Niven.
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: It is like it's worse like that game that game Funday,
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: like three to three, three to three. I'm like, we're
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: lucky if we can even get We're lucky if we
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: can even tie. Like I mean, I'm Musket Jones, you know,
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: I'm happy that. I'm happy that he made a play.
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: I'm loving that. And then Jack Jones, you know, I'm
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: loving I'm loving the development. But the offense it's less
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: it is less than desirable. It's it's just like it's
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: just what I gotta watch every week every week. Well,
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: got Timetown games coming up. That was bad. I mean
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: that was I think the Jets games in the in
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: the Colts game, those three, I think those were particularly bad.
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: I don't I haven't seen them. Look at but and
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: and I'm gonna say that the opponent had something to
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: do with that little bit. I think that the Jets
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: and the Colts have pretty good defenses. I don't think
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: you're gonna see that kind of a defense respect to
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: the Jets defense, because defense give them some credit. It
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: came to play. Yeah, it's just like, you know, like,
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: let me just put it this way, rashod like I
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: would say that a lot of people have given a
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: lot of respect to the Patriots defense for what they
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: did on Sunday, holding a team to one hundred yards
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: and no, no, no, you know, I'm trying to be
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: fair here. Like around here, the focus has been on
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: the Patriots defense was dominant. In other places, they'll say
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: that was one of the worst offensive performances you'll ever see.
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: More accurate. Yeah, you know, but you know what I'm
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: saying is so like, let's give the other team a
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: little bit of credit. I would give the Patriots some credit.
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: I think Zach Wilson missed a number. We talked about
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: this the Three of Us Live. We saw guys that
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: he was missing, especially that one with Conklin. To me,
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: that changed his whole day. I don't think he was
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: miserably bad until he missed that throw, and then the
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: second half was like he was playing left handed. That's
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: how bad he was throwing the ball in the second half.
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: Thanks for appreciate it. The only way that you can
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: watch the Patriots defense and I hate doing it, but
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: you have to keep in mind, well, how is this
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: going to look against Buffalo? How's this going to look
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: against Miami again, Cincinnati? Like those are the teams that
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: they're trying to compete with. They're not trying to get again,
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: that's all. That's all fair. And the concern that I
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: had after watching it back was if they play a
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: better quarterback on Sunday. There's a lot more plays on
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: that field than Zach Wilson was able to hit. I mean,
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: even though you talk about the one to Conklin over
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: the middle where he threw the ball to the open
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: guy but just sailed it over his head, there was
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: others that he missed. You know, they they want to
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: try that they got into scoring territory when they kicked
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: the field goal. Patriots busted a coverage guy wide open
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: in the end zone like this, jumping up and down
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: trying to get I didn't see that trying to get
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: Zach Wilson's attention. I think it was Garrett Wilson who
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: went off after the game. Well, there was a slant
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: that on a third down that he threw behind in
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: low to Mims yeah, that Garrett Wilson was underneath for
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: the first down, easy throwing jetch and that was one
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: of the ones that Ye, Wilson's like, so he's a rookie,
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: he's played ten games and he's already got it. They
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: switch released it, and so the Patriots didn't pass off
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: the switch properly and busted the coverage completely like nobody
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: within twenty yards of them. So I think in a sense,
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: I look at it and I say, Okay, well that's
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: good because Bill's gonna come in on Monday when they
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: go over corrections and be like, hey, guys, you're not
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: that good, like what's this? Yeah, you know, and they
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: can build up and learn from that. So in some ways,
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: I think it's not a bad thing that they're making
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: some of these mistakes. But I just think I don't
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: know if Kirk Cousins can do it, because they're gonna
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: put him in a lot of pressure, and I don't know.
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: I think I don't know if that's gonna end up
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: being a game where they're really tested in the secondary.
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: But a week from Thursday, if they play coverage like
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: they did against the Jets against Josh Allen Hill drop
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: forty on them here like that. That's just a reality.
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: That's the elephant in the room that I think since
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: they didn't force upon back in Buffalo, that we've all
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: just kind of been like, no matter what, the defense
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: kind of does until they go back up against Josh
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: Allen and actually, you know, they can be a speed bump.
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: I know that's this thing. You don't have to play
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: the hits. I just want to make said the offense.
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: It was easy to tire. You don't need to play
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: the hits. My favorite tweet from Sunday's game was Mina
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: Comes tweeted, Jets Patriots has been a masterclass in coaching,
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: Like you don't trust your quarterback? Well, that's uh, that's
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: about it. So that was a comment that I made
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: on the postgame show that I got attacked them all
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: and now suddenly that means that I'm killing Mac Jones,
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: which I am not. I think Mac Jones is on
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: the list of problems. He ain't at the top of it. Yeah,
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: I think we talked about that in the pregame show too,
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: and behind enemy Lines he's like, how many games can
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: you win when when you don't trust Zack Wilson. But
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: I'm like, Okay, it's the same way. How many games
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: can you win when you don't trust mac Jones. It's
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: trying to trying to games. Can you win with just
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: defense and special times? Not easy. Let's let's jump ru
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: real quick, NAT Santa Cruz, HEYNT what's going on? Hey guys?
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: So so, I actually I was just thinking about this
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: with the going for it on fourth down and then
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: some of the short yardage plays, Like I didn't have
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: a problem with going for it on fourth down just
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: because it looked like Dack Wilson like had throws that
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: he missed, Like it very well could have been the
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: Jeff could have scored six or nine on a ten
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: points in that game. So I guess the fact that
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: that they wanted to go for it. What I had
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: a problem with was in short yardage, You've got remond
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: Ring Stevenson in there. You've got a quarterback who is
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: still recovering from an injury. So at that point, as
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: a defense, don't you think that the defense just says, oh,
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: it's a run play to Remondring Stevenson, we can sell
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: out with everything we have on a run play, because
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: that's what they're gonna do, isn't that what you're doing
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: should yard is nine times out of ten like to me,
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: to me, like, I hear what you're saying about the
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: throws that Zach Wilson missed. To me, it would be
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: the opposite reason. I would say, pin him down and
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: make him make four or five throws as opposed to
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: give him the ball to thirty six yard line and
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: now all of a sudden, if he makes a throw
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: one throw, they potentially are in field goal range and
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: I can lose. That's why I would have punted on
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: that play. Then the one. If you guys disagree, that's
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: fine too, like with I mean, that's what these football
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: decisions shouldn't be universally agreed. You know, there's a lot
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: of different ways to look at it, and Nat just
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: brought up a different way. At the time fourth and
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: three from the thirty six, I'm like, punted, pin him
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: inside the ten and see if you can get off
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: the ten yard line again. The last time you got
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: away with it and they punted. Let's see if he
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: could do it again. And then that's how I'm gonna
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: win this game. Eventually, I'm gonna take over close enough
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: to field goal range. I don't have to do anything.
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: I'm just gonna kick a field goal. I didn't have
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: as much problem with the decision to go for it
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: as I did the play call. I just think, you
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: look at that whole sequence. It goes back to what
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: I was saying when I first sat down, which is,
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: you know, first down, first and ten. They actually pulled
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: Trent Brown, and the Jets defense wanted no part of it.
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: Like they got three and eighty pound Trent Brown coming
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: downhill at him. They gave six yards at second and four.
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: Then I'm thinking, okay, well you just did that. The
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: Jets defense a hadn't really seen that in the game yet,
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: and you don't run it a ton on film either,
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: so they're probably a little surprised by it. So I
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: would say, just run it again, right like until until
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: they stop it, Like let's just hoss crack, let's keep
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: running again. Or you know, I know this is next level.
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: Or we pulled Trent Brown and it's play action, right,
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: so he pulls, but we actually don't run it. We
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: actually play action it. And now your linebackers are coming
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: flying because they got to take on the freaking mountain
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: coming through the hole. And now you hit a big
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: playoff of play action like they were doing all afternoon,
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: but instead they ran outside zone and David Harris gets
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: hit by three guys in the backfield and loses three yards.
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: Now it's third and seven, so it's just a get
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: I just don't know what they are. And then then
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: shotgun fourth down and a shotgun run a sweep out
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: of the gun on fourth and three. That's your play call.
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: My real problem. Yeah, I think everything you said is
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: spot on with that sequence. I don't know how I
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: want third and seven. So okay, so you did what
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: none of us wanted to do when you lost three
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: yards on second down. Third and seven, we're just gonna
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: run off tackle and you know, yeah, and then say well,
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: we're gonna go We're gonna go fart on fourth down anyway.
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: So like, I just feel like you didn't even give
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: yourself a shot. Third and seven, we're gonna say two
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: runs here? What are we? Navy? Well, Evan, where are
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: you at? Because I feel like last maybe last week
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: or the week before, you were kind of you were
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: out of Matt Chillen's under center. And now it sounds
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: a little bit like you're saying they're having some success
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: under center, and you've got some issues with them. Conflicts. Now, yeah, conflicts.
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: It's very true. I've flip flopped a little bit on this.
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: I think, what this is my inner struggle with this
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: situation because I want them to be a spread offense,
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: right like I want them to be Alabama Like. I
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: want them to be RPO spread offense. Hit guys in
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: stride and watch them create after the catch. That's what
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: I want them to be. Okay, but right now, because
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: of mainly I would say their offensive line, they don't
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: have the line to be that unfortunately, because you're you know,
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: shotgun drop back, you're dropping, you're setting to about you know,
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: ten yards eleven yards. Mack joneses say, he's got to
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: have the tackle play to be able to run those
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: guys by, which they just don't have. And then if
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: you don't have the tackle play, then you have to
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: have the interior to step up in the pocket, which
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: they just don't have. So that's one thing. When you're
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: a shotgun based team running the football out a shotgun,
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: you need to have a really good offensive line to
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: do that because you're really just blocking with five guys
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: and trying to just you know, make it happen. So
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: as much as I want them to be a shotgun team,
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: I don't think that they can execute shotgun. And the
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: things that they've done well really going back to Zappy
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: is the seven guys in the protection, two guys in
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: the route, hard play action off of something, and then
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: you know, stressing the deep part of the field with
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: the coverage and hunting those chunk plays. So that's just
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: been their most successful stuff has been that, and they
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: weren't running it very well with Mac, but in this
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: game they found some wrinkles, you know, of the full
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: house formation. They had some of those Zappy style play
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: actions if you will, where there's seven guys in the
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: protection plus the back, so it's really like an eight
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: man almost like a max protect situation. So that that's
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: been their best offense, and unfortunately that's just kind of
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: how they have to play. How did the Andrews look?
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: We mentioned on the radio, we don't have to do
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: a whole Evan's back from practice thing, but we saw
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: Andrews was out there. When did you what did you think?
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: How was he moving? I think he's crazy. I mean,
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: I think he's out there. He was moving pretty well.
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: He looked like he was locked in and like trying
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: to participate in some capacity in this practice. So we'll
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: see what the injury report says. I think a lot
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: of the reports that came out were wishy washy, because
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: I agree one, I think that reporting on something not
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: to take any shots at the Big Jay's, but reporting
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: on something an hour after it happens on game day
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: when he hasn't undergone any sort of testing whatsoever, is
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: probably not the best approach. Oh, it doesn't look good
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: season ending. I mean, I don't know. We thought he
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: had a broken steamer, right, I'm sorry, I heard serious
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: eye injury, possibly season ending. I'm thinking that they think
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: he may have broken the steamer. Yeah, that's what I'm think.
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: Femer torn quat, you know, completely like he would have
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: torn quat. Yeah, I mean, I guess you're right. That's
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: probably pretty serious to climb up the leg like it's
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: just completely detached. Yeah, Like, uh, well that happened to
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: Steff right, Oh right that Miami game year and then
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: he was on pup to start the following season, right, Yeah,
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: So I guess, yeah, that's pretty I think that weird though.
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: Do you watch the play like the play I can't
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: tell what the heck happened. He just kind of gets
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: out in space, he's kind of adjustin to block, and
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: then he just kind of gets spun a little bit.
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: It's hard to see what the contact. Yeah, I think
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: that they you know, I think some of the reports
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: that are coming out now or after the testing and
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: after the imaging, it's not severe enough that for a guy,
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: you know, David Andrews wants to play through it and
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: we'll see. I mean, I think play playing on Thursdays.
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: I can't imagine he's playing this crazy, But I don't know.
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: Maybe I would. I would say the next two Thursdays
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: is probably pushing it. But then you have that long
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: break until the Cardinals game on Monday night. It's like
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: a ten day break or something like that. Maybe maybe
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: he's able to play. I think that's sort of been
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: the thinking with Christian Barmore as well, is you know,
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: let's shut him down and then we have that long
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: layoff and and will hopefully get him back, you know,
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: for the last four games of the season. Hopefully they
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: can use him for meaningful games at that point. Right disappointing.
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: I just thought was one thing coming in um I
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: wanted to see, wanted to bar more season, but I
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: haven't gotten much of it. Uh, let's go to the emails, Paul.
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: They're stacking up, and I have I've ignored them. I
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: haven't ignored them, but we've been talking about a lot
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: so UM. But let's power through them. We really appreciate
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: everybody writing in. UM gonna start here. I don't know.
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: It's kind of interesting from Ford Hello World's original podcast.
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: I believe defense doesn't win championships except about every seven years.
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: The Ravens, the Seven Giants, the fifteen Broncos. In the
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: twenty two Patriots. Could the Patriots sneak into the playoffs
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: and make a run on defense? He's kind of drawing
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: the comparison to the Seven Giants. Do you think do
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: you think something like that could come together for for
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: this squad? Not without offense. The thing was like Eli
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: just played out of his mind. Yeah, I think. I
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: think there are different things. I think people look at
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: like the individual super Bowl itself, and they're like, well,
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: the better defense beat the better offense, so defense wins championships.
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: But they don't take into consideration that the Patriots don't
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: get to the Super Bowl, say in eighteen without scoring
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: forty plus points in the playoff games or at thirty
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: seven in Kansas City to get there, Like, that's what
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: it took to get there. Like, you didn't get there
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: in the back of your defense. You got there in
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: the back of Tom Brady, who was out of his
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: mind in those first two playoff games. Yeah, they won
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: the Super Bowl thirteen to three. The defense won that game.
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: But yeah, no one says the defense can't win a game.
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: But it's hard to win a title like that. It's
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: hard to imagine you go down the stretch and win
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: enough of these games against Buffalo, Miami, Arizona, Vegas, and
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: Cincinnati to get to the playoffs, and then get to
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: the playoffs and then beat those teams again to get
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: to the Super Bowl without any offense. That's all defense.
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: That Yeah, that's the biggest thing to me is that
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: you have to in order to win a Super Bowl,
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: you have to be able to play different types of games, right,
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: because not every game is going to go perfect the
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: way that you planned it. So in order to win
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: a Super Bowl, you have to be able to win
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: a shootout. You have to be able to win a
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: thirteen to three game, you have to be a weather
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: games snow. You know, they put up thirty seven points
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: that night on the Chiefs in arctic temperatures it was
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: like ten degrees. You know, you have to be able
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: to do these types of things and these games, because
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: I mean, you're not gonna beat Josh Allen or Patrick
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: Mahomes in a playoff game, you know, ten to three,
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: Like that game is gonna is gonna be in the
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: thirties if you're gonna win that game. So there's there's
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: some games like you could be the Titans ten to three, right,
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: like that game could turn into a slot that kind
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: of a game. But that's just one game. Ray and
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: Pa writes in now this a little bit how the
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: sausage gets made here by the media. Thought occurred to
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: me during the great Mac Jones ankle watch of twenty
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: twenty two, and hit me again today with the early
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: practice reports. Is it forbidden for the media to zoom
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: in on a particular player during practice available. I just
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: opened Twitter and four or five different reports that David
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: Andrews is taking part in practice today and is moving great,
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: moving well, which is great, But then you're forced to
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: watch a wide angle video of the entire press. Yeah,
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: I saw a video that did not look like he
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: was moving all that great, But uh well, I think
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: you're allowed to. But I think everybody's just got their phone,
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: so we all know how crappy it is when you
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: try to zoom your phone. And some of the TV
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: outlets should have better floatage obviously with real canvas. Get
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: it turned around. Yeah. Just also just to add to that,
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: so media reporters, like beat reporters, where we have to
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: be in a corner of the end zone. That is
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: in one corner, and David Andrews was diagonally across a
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: hundred yard football field. That's the angle I saw in
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: the other corner, and we have to stay in that
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: ten yard box. So especially you wander. There's also a
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: certain time allotments exactly you've been allowed to take photos.
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: Yeah there, so what are you really going to see
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: when someone is like stretching, I would say, David, that
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: seventy five yards away from us. Yeah, when those photos
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: were being taken, and as good as iPhone cameras are now,
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: zoom that zoom is only going to get you so far.
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: You got to go to Mark Daniels binoculars outside of
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: the a Pruter film, right, isn't that what marked us? Yes? Yeah, yeah,
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: a couple of guys. I'm not going to go there.
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: You think that that might be like a something that
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: you might invest in. Is just buying like a little
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: camera that's high quality that can zoom in pretty well.
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: I mean, honestly, the new iPhone camera that three zoom
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: is better than my DSLR. I regret buying myself a
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: DSLR camera. Yeah, mirrorless, yeah it is. I don't know.
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: It might if one of us Beat reporters walks in
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: with the with an actual camera, it might be frowned.
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I'm not gonna lie. It's just not all
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: that important. I'm sure it will. Neil from Um not sure,
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: Warwick writes in Happy ten year butt fumbled, everybody, thank
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: you you too. Let's celebrate quick one. What's your favorite
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: dishes for Thanksgiving? Anybody? I'm not good at this. You
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: guys can go. You like food? Yeah, I don't like
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: Thanksgiving all that much. The food the day could you
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: kill I'm not a big Turkey guy. The dessert as yeah, yeah,
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: sweep potatoeat sweet potato par my mom is an incredible
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: chef like incredible. I look forward to Thanksgiving all year.
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: Mine's not an it's nice. Her stuffinggendary. Her stuffing is legendary.
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: We all go out on Thanksgiving Eve, me and my friends,
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: and traditionally my friends will come to my house after
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: the bar three am. We roll in. My friends want
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: to know if the stuffing is made yet. That was
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: my house when my grandmother was still alive. Because my
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: grandmother lived with us and she was an amazing cook,
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: and everybody would be like, ye, shout out, Cathy, is Nana?
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: Do you think Nana is up? I go, Nana's always up,
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: what do you want? And we would just go. We'd
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: just walk in the house and she'd stop cooking. It
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: was like good fellas, I'm not lying. But if we
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: come in, like all of us would be bleepe faced,
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: and she'd be like, sit down, my mom. And she
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: never went to bed, right, She never went to bed.
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: She stayed awake and waited with a big momo coat
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: with like gravy stains all over it. That was my grandmother's,
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: My whole life. So we've been to everybody's pulling people
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: in the locker room this week asking Thanksgiving questions, And Mike,
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: we're gonna start with you first. Would you rather cook
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: or clean up? Cook? Absolutely? Paul, clean up, Alex cook clean? Wow,
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: what do you cook? Cook? I think I can't cook.
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: I can't cook. I don't think I could cook at turkey.
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: But you're leaving up. It's so many dishes. Well, one time,
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: wake up early, cook the dishwasher. Everything can't hit in
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: the dishwasher. When I lived in la I worked as
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: a caterer briefly, and I was I had to go
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: to this house in Brentwood where they basically just hired
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: me to be kind of their white Why am I now,
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: I'm envisioning like a random I was just there exactly,
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: and so it was funny because you know, lady, you're
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: helping set things up. You know, it's this lady, very nice,
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: very nice house in Brentwood, h you know. And then
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: and then the dishes start coming off the table, and
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: I'm like, that's what's the protocol here? Might like supposed
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: to do all the dishes like I did because I
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: didn't know what else to do. But I just started
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: cleaning all the dishes and I did the whole thing.
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: But it's just one of those random Thanksgivings where you're like,
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: I catered for a rich family in Brentwood, California. Also,
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: could you pickture Thanksgiving without football now? And that's what
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: we're writing about on the round table today. I miss
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: I miss the high school football. That was one of
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: my favorite things was just the ten am. The games
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: meant something. Everybody comes back, you know, it's it's the
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: precursor to the dinner. So you get up in the morning,
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: you know, you see all the kids are coming back
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: from college that you haven't seen in a couple of years.
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: You know, you're you're your friends are playing on the field,
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: all their families are there. This is the biggest game.
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: I mean, it used to matter so much more in Massachusetts.
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: It used to be these games were to go to
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: Super Bowls and you know, and now sometimes they're just
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: kind of exhibitions against what were what used to be
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: your rival. But talking to some of the guys in
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: the press room, same kind of thing, like, just those
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: games used to be so big. It was my favorite
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: part of Thanksgiving, just the whole atmosphere of that. You know,
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: you come home, you're cold, you're starving, like you would
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: have breakfast a few hours ago. But now you're like ready,
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: the house smells, your grandparents are here all of a sudden.
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: Now it's like the good teams are just sitting all
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: their players for the super Bowl, and the bad teams
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: cut Like those games kind of mean something because it's
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: the seniors last game, but it's like they're not in
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: the playoffs for a reason. Right, So it's like you
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: watch those Needham Wellesley will always mean something. I can
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: tell you that I covered it once. Yeah, yeah, I
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: covered them. My dad played in it. Ye just got
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: a lot of good, good Needham Wellesley memories, like the
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: oldest isn't like the oldest rivalry and and yes, yeah,
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: I mean we like to say that I do, and
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: isn't it yeah yeah? And f Wellesley always how did
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: you do at? I was coaching Wellesley at that time,
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: uh one, our senior years storm the field. That was
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: fun at Needham. Um. Now they they they beat up
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: on us a little bit. We were We were much
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: better than Wesley. Guy now well I used to three
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: to ninety seven. I coach baseball and I coached football
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: in ninety seven, ninety six, ninety seven. Let's let's check
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: in with La again, our third caller from the beautiful
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: state of California and Los Angeles. There, hold on chat button,
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: all right, there are chat Hey, what's going on? Hey?
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: How are you guys doing good? I got so enthralled
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: in turkey talk I almost forgot about the pat Um
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: that's the idea. I Um My question though, is about,
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: um the little spell that mac Jones had with the
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: injury during the game. Um, have you guys talked about
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: that at all? And then, you know, has there been
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: any zappy talk since what injury we're talking about in
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: this dam? Yes, there was, there was something with his ankle.
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: I think during the game he did go down a
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: little bit awkwardly on a scramble on one play, But yeah,
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: didn't didn't seem to. I didn't notice. I didn't even
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: notice any histrionics with that one. I didn't wasn't an
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: injured port yesterday. No, I didn't really notice anything. Um. Yeah,
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: I don't think there's anything anything with Bailey Zappie coming
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: that I'd be stunned. No, thanks, Chad, um Claire. I
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: think he continues to move reasonably well, like you know,
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: considering he had a high ankle sprain and missed the
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: time that he did from the day he came back
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: against Chicago. Yeah, I do not see mobility as being
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: a huge issue. I thought I thought this was the
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: this game. He looked like he had some pocket presents back.
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: It looked like he had a couple of throws. He
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: took a couple of steps, he delivered it with with
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: guys kind of closing in around him. It didn't look
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: like he was panicking as much as as maybe he
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: did in the past. But um Claire writes in Hello everyone,
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: harmering after the game, haven't tweeted out his prediction of
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: the old line now going forward left to Trent cole
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: Farns and when you could just, of course David Andrews
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: could throw a wrench in that with his amazing ability
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: to get back out there. Do you all think this
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: would be a good idea to sacrifice an extra spot
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: to cannon like in flex to help out could just
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: seem to struggle, and we know strange has issues when
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: there's no Andrews. Um I'll sure what she meant by
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: the canons still on, still on, irm, But I just
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: I'm number one, number two. I think you could make
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: a strong argument that out of all of the performances
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: of individual offensive lineman, he'd be among the worst. Cannon
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: I know, and I think just has been better than
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: Cannon and to day, I know, And that's what I
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: was going to say. I mean, that was I kind
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: of had like that like false hope of like I
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: don't know, we haven't seen yadmikns just yet. Eke. I
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: mean that was like it's just as bad. And that's
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: what's just so frustrating. It's been a problem. I mean,
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: the past protection is an issue. I know they're the
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: sixth ranked offensive line in football, but it really just
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: makes you wonder, like why the past protection has been
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: an issue? It just the yeah I did that on purpose. Yes.
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: The way I think the biggest thing is with the
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: tackle play is that on some of these plays, like
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: the quarterback just doesn't have a chance. Right. It's not
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: even just that, Okay, if you give up a sack,
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: you know, three and a half seconds into the down,
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: you're like, all right, well, you know, get the ball
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: out QB, right, But when your quarterback gets hit at
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: two point three seconds after the snap, it's like, like
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: we we gotta get more of an effort than that.
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: I mean, there was one play. One of the sacks
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: happened in two point seven seconds and both tackles end
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: up flat on their faces, both tackles, And I'm just
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: thinking to myself, like embarrassing, we just got in the
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: first play of the game was a sack. I was like,
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: it's gonna be, but it depends on our season, Like
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: they've just been the liability all year. What do you
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: think happened on that first play, because I mean, I know,
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: look sometimes like offenses, they mirror plays and they'll and
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: they'll do different things on each side, and if it's
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: a certain coverage, they'll go to one side. But like
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: that opening play, Cole Strange is pulling out its like
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: there was going to be like a little screen pass
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: of some sort. But Matt just doesn't even really he
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: looks that off instantly and looks to the right side,
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: and either of those guys are even open. He clutches
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: it once and then boom, he's on the ground. It's
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: a package play, so you have a it's kind of
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: like a guarpo, except it's a screen instead of a run.
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: So they have a screen to one side and then
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: they have two routes to the other side, and just
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: based off of C. J. Mosley as the player that
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: he's reading in the middle of the defense, if Mosley
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: goes out towards the screen, then he's going to come
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: to the routes on the back side. If he stays
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: in the middle, he's going to throw the screen because
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: it's a number. It's a numbers game right now. I
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: thought that they probably might have had the numbers anyways
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: on the screen if he wanted to throw it the safety,
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: the deep safety would have been unblocked. But that's kind
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: of that's Damian Harris's guy, right, Like, you got to
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: make somebody miss at some point. So I think maybe
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: they could have still thrown the screen. But I think
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: what he was expecting to happen when he came off
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: the screen and came back to Hunter Henry and then
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: they were bringing the blitz. I think he thought Hunter
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: he was going to look for the ball right away,
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: and instead Hunter Henry still kind of went into the
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: route right and if he was looking right if if
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: Hunter Henry gets his head around right away and they
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: just hit it, you know, at two or three yards
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: instead of you know, six yards, then maybe that play
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: would have been available just because the blitz comes in
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: the safety to over the top is taking Hunter, Henry
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: and man coverage in YadA, YadA, YadA. But yeah, it
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: was a cool like I don't mind the play design.
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: I honestly, I think it's kind of a cool thing
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: to do if they can execute it properly. But they
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: just I think, you know, time and time again, when
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: it comes to blitz pressure, it just doesn't seem like
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: everybody is aware that the opponent is blitzing. And it
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: goes back to Week one against Miami on the strip
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: sack right right off out of the gate. It just
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: doesn't feel like they are aware that, okay, blitz is coming,
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: like now I gotta get out of this break faster.
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: I gotta get my head around quicker. And some of
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: the checkdowns too that they designed also, like you know,
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: everybody's like check it down, check it down. It's like
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: Remandre's back is still to the quarterback like he's not
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: even in his route yet. So they got to get
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: some of these things faster, right, Everything needs just needs
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: to be faster. Um with the way that they they
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: are running their routes in the timing of the passing game,
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: Kareem Rights in first, give me a little shout out, says,
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: I'm kind of like Drew Bledsoe in two thousand and
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: one replacing Tom Brady in the AFC Championship. Here with
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: my stellar hosting, I would want to go to Super
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: Bowls couplet A couple couple of near interceptions there to
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: James Harrison, Um, but is that question, do you feel
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: confident in the Patriots winning any of the remaining games?
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: Some of them are clearly harder than the rest. Uh,
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: But I can't see the Patriots being favored in any
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: and they certainly won't be favored probably. I mean maybe
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: maybe in Arizona, but I don't know about Arizona in Vegas.
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: But there's a chance. But yeah, they'll win games. They're
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: not gonna go winless the rest of them. They're not
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: gonna lose the last seven games. I feel confident. They're
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: feel really confident in that. I feel confident they're gonna
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: be Minnesota and they're gonna win one of Arizona in Vegas.
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: I I would feel very confident about that, probably with Arizona.
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: I just think the question is is two Buffalo, one Miami,
- 1:43:06Speaker 1: and one Cincinnati and those are, you know, the good
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: teams in the AFC. I don't know, I really don't
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: know what should have three of those at home? But
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: will it matter? So you shouldn't lose all four of
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: those games. They should three of them at home. They
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: should win both of the West Coast games. They should
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: beat Arizona, and they should beat the Raiders. They have
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: the Raiders one I think is a little sneaky, just
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: because of the McDaniels angle, and that game is going
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: to obviously mean a lot to him, and Belichick's record
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: against his former assistance is not very good, especially the
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: first time that they play, so there's that angle to it.
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: But they're they're a better team than both those teams
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: and Arizona's and as much shambles as Vegas is right now,
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know if Cliff Kingsbury is going
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: to make it there, but their injury situation, to me
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: is worrisome because if those guys come back, Yeah, if
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: you get Kyler Murray back and he has a full compliment,
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: then I would say that they're capable of scoring points. Yeah.
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: I think they're deeps are both bad Cardinals, and I
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: just think that there's something about Kyler, And I know
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: the last time they played him, he was a little
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: banged up in that game too. He had like an
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: ankle or something like that, so he wasn't he wasn't
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: running at one hundred percent. So I know that mobile
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: quarterback ankles going to terrify people with Kyler, But with
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: quarterbacks that you know, there's like an area of the
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: field that they're just not going to throw too. And
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: that's like the middle of the field for Kyler because
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: he's a little bit of a short guy. Yeah, and
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: so he's just not going to throw it to the middle,
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: the short middle or the really the intermediates, intermediate middle,
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: eitherstring hamstring. That's a weird quarterback. Yeah whatever. I just
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: think that if he plays, they have the ability to
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: score twenty points. Yeah. And if they scored twenty points,
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: you can beat the Patriots. I'm like, it's too high,
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: but I'm just saying I'm not telling you that twenty
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: will win. I'm saying if you can score twenty against
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: the Patriots, you have a very good chance of winning. Yeah.
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: Brennan for Nettington, it's a little little physic, isn't very Canadian?
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: Is mac Jones the fourth best Jones on the team.
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: Oh wow, that's why. Maybe he's a second. I still
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: think he's got the two rookies. I don't know about
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: Jay Jones though he's j Jones is balling out right now?
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: Which one there's two? John Johnny Johnny. We call him
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: Johnny around here. Um. Another one here from Eric from
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: ams am Hurstberg, am Hurstberg. That's that's a new one. Um.
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: I agree with Evan on the play calling. The old
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: line play calling looks like my friends playing Madden. They
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: call random plays and hope it works. I feel like
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: that's what Maddie p is doing. Get an all old
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: line and a real play caller and see how our
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: offense works with any QB. I prefer Mac, but don't
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: care who plays as long as we keep winning. Happy Thanksgiving.
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: There was no question in that one. I kind of
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: why I took that, you know, I started walking down though.
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: That's like the ass There a question here, thoughts. They
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: just love to give their take. Thoughts. Yeah, here's my take.
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: Ye what do you think? Do you agree with my comment?
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: Talk about my take, talk about it, talk about it
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: all right, hopefully hopefully right. From Saint Louis, got a
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: good question in here. I'm gonna jump right in one
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: question off the top of all your heads, what is
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: the biggest head scratching decision Bill has made of all
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: time that you can remember. Mine would be in the
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: wildcard game against the Titans when we didn't have a
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: returner back to receive the punt, forcing us to try
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: and make a comeback deep in our own territory that
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: isn't had market Jones. Then that is your most head
- 1:46:22Speaker 1: scratching decision he's ever made. Bill. Yeah, I think we're
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: living it right now. I think this is it for me.
- 1:46:30Speaker 1: That's my sweet spot. Malcolm not playing against I was
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: gonna say that's one big one for me personally, that
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: one kicking in overtime against the Jets, putting Chris Harper
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: back to return to punt up fourteen, and now the
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: Titans wild card game with not putting her return her back,
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: that's the biggest I'm sorry, mortar kick up fourteen against
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: Philadelphia at fifty. You could play the Hits running Stephen
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: Jackson one hundred and eleven straight plays when all you
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: need to do is win a game and get the
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: number one sit. There's a lot fourth and two we've
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: really tell you this is this is Miami miracle. Yeah.
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: Another one that's certainly a special place for Malcolm Butler
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: because it's a super Bowl and that was a competitive
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: and this is a conversation about number two. Tom Brady
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: is the best player in the history of the papers
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: have gone by Butler and I still don't know Jack,
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: but like the other ones, are all individual bad in
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: game weird decisions like this for me right now with
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: the offensive situation, when you had a first round quarterback
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: and you were just kind of like, let's see what
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: top five this is? This to me, top five is major.
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: It's played out exactly like it did in our worst
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: nightmares coming into this season. And I don't know how
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: much confidence I have to think. I think you can
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: make the argument that Malcolm Butler also had a long
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: term impact like that they got I'm not gonna say
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: they got lucky and eighteen, but they kind of struck
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: lightning in eighteen. I don't think they thought that team
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: was going to win a Super Bowl. But that was
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: the beginning of the end. To me, like that, that
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: was sort of the beginning of the end of Brady
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: wanting to leave in the first place, so in that respect,
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: But yeah, I agree with Mike that this decision to
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: mess with Max development, with this set up on offense
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: has a long term impact on the franchise beyond this season,
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: Like this could have put them back another five years,
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: you know, if he if they end up, if they
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: end up ruining him, absolutely, and then they have to
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: start all over again, and big picture things like that.
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: You know, it's one hundred years ago now, but um,
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: the O six season and going in and saying, yeah, sure, we'll,
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: you know, we'll let David Gibbons walk in free agency,
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: and you know, we'll you know, we're not going to
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: give de Branch anything and we'll we'll Kyle Taw and
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: trade him. And then we're gonna chase wide receivers all
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: the year and as a result, we're going to be
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: a wildcard team and as a results of that, we're
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: gonna be on the road back to back weeks in
- 1:48:46Speaker 1: the playoffs and blow a chance to win a Super
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: Bowl because that hanging, said riche Calwell catches the ball,
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: we're not talking about no, no, But if that game's
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: not in Indianapolis, we're not talking about this. Yes, and
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: that game shouldn't have been piping in odd noise. Don't
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: forget the flu that they were pumping into and get
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: the flu. The whole team got the flu. The whole
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: store got the flu. Speed rights, and happy Thanksgiving to
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: you all, even Evan Speed. He wrote that at the
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: tail end of the postgame show, Fred said the following,
- 1:49:17Speaker 1: I think that God, wait, what is that that? I
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: spell that on my shirt? Now? I think that if
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: the things Mac were responsible for we're looking okay, people
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: wouldn't be as freaked out because you can fix the
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: other things. But when your quarterback is having trouble, now
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: you suck. Even though Mac was thoroughly average on Sunday,
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: I feel seen by Fred question how different similar does
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: Max seem this year too, relative to post back post
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: by Mac last year? Speed, buddy, that's topee tough. I
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: respect the hustle, but we gotta we gotta move on
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: from this this conversation, Like we gotta let it go,
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: Speed Okay, Like we all are on board peace that
- 1:49:57Speaker 1: that Mac has not been playing well, but he gave
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: you no no, because it's just every single time it's
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: how bad is Mac? Now? Like he's not been good?
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: Like how it is he compared to post By Mac
- 1:50:14Speaker 1: last year. I mean, I don't know, but you know,
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: one of the few that talks like that, like it's
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: past protection, it's coaching. He hasn't been good. You include that.
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: A lot of the people don't. Yeah, he hasn't been good.
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: I think that what I have learned and this is
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: not are shattering or something that a lot of second
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: year quarterbacks aren't in the same exact bucket. I mean,
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: we just watched another second year quarterback play probably the
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: worst football game I've ever seen a quarterback play in
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: a while, when Zach Wilson. So it's not like he's alone,
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: but he's a product, like I hate to call system quarterback.
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: I hate using that that phrase, but like he's a
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: product of things going well around him. And I think
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: you know, when things are are going well around him
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: in the offense, is is well coached and well coordinated,
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: and the offensive line and can protect and then he
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: can distribute the ball. I mean, Hunter Henry said it
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: to us after the game. When we keep him clean
- 1:51:06Speaker 1: and we give him opportunities to make throws, he's great. Yeah,
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: they know it, Like you know, he's saying right to
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: our faces. Like, when this guy gets under pressure, he's
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: not very good, you know, and that's that's that's the
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: book right now, right. I mean, he's one of the
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: worst passers in the league while under pressure. So he's
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: not doing anything to elevate a bad situation. There's there's
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: no doubt about it. No. But but I think what
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: we saw from him against the Jets is, you know,
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: kind of what you want. That's what I wanted to
- 1:51:34Speaker 1: get to that too before we finished. Like, I think
- 1:51:38Speaker 1: that that was kind of kind of a return to
- 1:51:41Speaker 1: what he did when he was at his best last year.
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: You know, twenty three for twenty seven, you know, two
- 1:51:46Speaker 1: hundred and nothing even close to a turnover, right, he didn't.
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: He didn't throw anything anywhere near harm's ways keep going.
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: I know he took six sex. Yeah, and I think
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: that's part of of the browbeating of stop turning the
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: ball over, and that's why you're not throwing the ball
- 1:52:04Speaker 1: away at times when I think you have a chance.
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: I don't think you had a chance six times to
- 1:52:08Speaker 1: throw the ball away, but I think at least one
- 1:52:11Speaker 1: once when they were in field goal range on the
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: field goal that hit the crossbar. I think it was
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: one of them. So what I'm what I'm getting at
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: is this was a little bit of a departure from
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: the way they were going about the passing game earlier
- 1:52:24Speaker 1: in the year, when people were saying, why don't they
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: get back to what they would do in last year?
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: It worked? No, it didn't. Yeah, and it didn't work
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: Sunday either. It looked better. The numbers looked great, twenty
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: three for twenty seven. Anybody would sign up for that
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: any day of the week. Nine yards per tien absolutely
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: three points and I'll even say should have had nine points.
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: They missed two field goals, yeah, right, the one that
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: he's doing good enough, the one that he's doing you know,
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: he wants Nelson Agalore on a on a corner route
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: against cover two, and it's not not there, right Like,
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: it's not it's decent coverage and it's a little bit
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: of like a contested throw, there's no doubt about it.
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: But you know, if he puts that ball in a
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: Nelson or Nobody spot, right like, either Nelson's gonna go
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: up and catch us, make a great catch along the sideline,
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: or it's going to be incomplete and there's there's no
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: in between. Then I think that there's a chance that
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: at the worst it sails out of bounds and they
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: kicked the field goal from a shorter distance, and at
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: the best, Nelson Agiler does what against did against Pittsburgh
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: and losses the guy and catches a touchdown. So there's
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: those types of throws on the tape now that he's
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: not pulling the trigger on because I think those interceptions
- 1:53:45Speaker 1: happened earlier in the season when he was trying to
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: make those types of throws, and in his mind, he's thinking,
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: you know, Nick folks nails like, we're forty four yard
- 1:53:55Speaker 1: field goal from this spot, and I agree with Paul
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: that he should have taken in the wind into account,
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: but in his he's saying, anything inside forty five Nick
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: is putting through. So I'm just gonna take a sack
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: and we're gonna kick the field goal and get these
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: three points. Now, knowing the situation in the game and
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: the conditions of the weather and all that kind of stuff, like,
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: you know, maybe that should have been different. But I
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: think a quarterback with more confidence, in a quarterback that
- 1:54:19Speaker 1: isn't so concerned about turnovers, probably dots that throwing Nelson
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: Agilor and we're talking about something totally different. And I
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: just bring it up because I feel like there's been
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: a lot of criticism of why the wholesale changes, and
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: I think that the thought process was we need to
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: find a way to be more dangerous. Yeah, And I
- 1:54:41Speaker 1: think this was a glimpse of a lot of things
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: going on. Right. This is why a lot of people
- 1:54:46Speaker 1: look at that game and said, oh I saw progress,
- 1:54:48Speaker 1: because it looked different. Yeah, Like it wasn't one hundred
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: and forty yards passing, it wasn't like fifty eight percent completions,
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: it wasn't three turnovers, but good plays like Baltimore. But
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: the result is you didn't score, just like you didn't
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: score against Indianapolis the previous week, and you didn't score
- 1:55:05Speaker 1: against the Jets the week before that. Yeah, So yeah,
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: it might look different, but I think this is what
- 1:55:10Speaker 1: the coaches were thinking when they decided to try to
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: make some changes to the office. Now it hasn't worked.
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: I'm not I'm not saying like, see, it wasn't right
- 1:55:20Speaker 1: earlier in the year, like Evan said, when turning the
- 1:55:22Speaker 1: ball over at an alarming rate. Yeah, well you don't
- 1:55:24Speaker 1: want that either, Like my hope is that you saw
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: a game kind of like old Mac last week, Like,
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: you know, can he re establish that confidence and get
- 1:55:31Speaker 1: him back to feeling all right, I know what I'm doing.
- 1:55:34Speaker 1: And that's why I go back to, like, do we
- 1:55:35Speaker 1: really need to tear up the whole offense? Like could
- 1:55:38Speaker 1: we have not kind of stuck with similar kind of
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: stuff that we were we saw in the last game
- 1:55:42Speaker 1: of what he does well and say, we know we
- 1:55:44Speaker 1: have to get more explosive, but that doesn't mean we
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: can just rip everything up and start from scratch and
- 1:55:48Speaker 1: try to figure out again what he's actually good at.
- 1:55:50Speaker 1: Like I just wonder if they didn't bring enough from
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: what they were successful with last year into this kind
- 1:55:55Speaker 1: of new plan and they say, nope, we're starting that's
- 1:55:59Speaker 1: fair and build off of these, you know, these wrinkles
- 1:56:02Speaker 1: that I think that they you know, they got some
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: chunk plays, build off of that finds, you know, you
- 1:56:07Speaker 1: find two or three other things that you can have
- 1:56:10Speaker 1: success with. Now you have opponents in the last five
- 1:56:12Speaker 1: or six weeks saying we got to account for this, this,
- 1:56:15Speaker 1: and this that we didn't have to account for last
- 1:56:17Speaker 1: year or earlier this year because they having success with it. No,
- 1:56:21Speaker 1: no defense wants to give up thirty yard plays. And
- 1:56:24Speaker 1: I think, I mean they had, like Jets defense is
- 1:56:26Speaker 1: designed to do the axact opposite, and they had and
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: they had like they had like a third of the
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: yards on four plays the other day, like they had
- 1:56:35Speaker 1: I think twenty six, twenty two, thirty and twenty four
- 1:56:38Speaker 1: something like they had like one hundred yards on four plays. Yeah,
- 1:56:41Speaker 1: it's frustrating because that that throw to Agle or like
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: early season, Mac pulls the trigger like he rips it
- 1:56:49Speaker 1: and as it completed, as it intercepted, like that was
- 1:56:52Speaker 1: the fifty fifty element of what was going on in
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: the first three weeks of the season. But I really
- 1:56:56Speaker 1: believe that early season Mac rips that throw. What was
- 1:56:59Speaker 1: the what was the hundred one you said he missed? Yeah,
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: so there was one. Two Hunter Henry James Ferrins does
- 1:57:05Speaker 1: get beat very very quickly by by Quinnin Williams. So
- 1:57:10Speaker 1: you know, I don't know, but with Hunter Henry that
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: the route combination worked right, Like they run acrosser with
- 1:57:17Speaker 1: john it's twelve personnel and they have the two tight
- 1:57:19Speaker 1: ends together on the same side of the formation and
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: Johnny one runs one way Ramandre runs into the flat
- 1:57:25Speaker 1: to kind of stretch that that zone underneath, and Hunter
- 1:57:28Speaker 1: Henry is just gonna like curl it up in between
- 1:57:30Speaker 1: the two zones and he's there. And if Mac throws
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: it with a little bit of anticipation and trust that
- 1:57:37Speaker 1: Hunter Henry is just going to come out of that
- 1:57:38Speaker 1: route and curl up and make that catch, the play
- 1:57:41Speaker 1: should have worked. Now. I will allow for the fact
- 1:57:45Speaker 1: that Quinn Williams might have batted the ball down into
- 1:57:47Speaker 1: Mac's face because he's right there already, or whatever the
- 1:57:50Speaker 1: case may be, but the throw was there for him
- 1:57:53Speaker 1: to make it. I thought he got a little bit
- 1:57:55Speaker 1: of happy feet there in the pocket. Now, I think
- 1:57:59Speaker 1: that overall, although I I'm nitpicking by putting two of
- 1:58:04Speaker 1: these sacks on Mac, if I'm being honest, it's probably
- 1:58:06Speaker 1: more like one and a half because I think that
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: that one quinnin was in the backfield awfully quickly. But
- 1:58:12Speaker 1: there's just no no trust, there's no anticipation to his
- 1:58:16Speaker 1: game right now where everything needs to be. It needs
- 1:58:20Speaker 1: to be open for him to want to make that throw,
- 1:58:22Speaker 1: and if it's a little bit dicey, he's not throwing it.
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: Opportunities to get right against Minnesota for Mac Jones, they're
- 1:58:28Speaker 1: allowing the second most passing yards in the league to
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: play action ten point two yards per attempt against play action.
- 1:58:36Speaker 1: So this is a zone it's a zone coverage system.
- 1:58:40Speaker 1: They runs a lot of zone. They're they're bad against
- 1:58:43Speaker 1: play action because they're a fast defense that wants to
- 1:58:45Speaker 1: fly around and if you can get them with misdirection
- 1:58:47Speaker 1: and stuff like that, you can beat them. And the
- 1:58:50Speaker 1: other thing I would say, this is one of those
- 1:58:52Speaker 1: games from a passing game standpoint that you're in a
- 1:58:54Speaker 1: dome and I need to see some things from from
- 1:58:57Speaker 1: Mac in the passing game from this no excuses, Like
- 1:59:01Speaker 1: it's like when they go down Stevenson as a receiver
- 1:59:03Speaker 1: after what Paullard did, Yeah, you could do some of that.
- 1:59:05Speaker 1: I mean it's like what they did, you know down
- 1:59:07Speaker 1: in Houston, Like I think Cam's like best passing game
- 1:59:10Speaker 1: was in like Seattle and Houston, like you know, and
- 1:59:12Speaker 1: the weather was nice in Seattle and then Houston. They're
- 1:59:14Speaker 1: playing in a dome and like you know, when you
- 1:59:16Speaker 1: play these games and domes, like you should be able
- 1:59:18Speaker 1: to throw the ball. This is not going to be
- 1:59:20Speaker 1: can't playing the wind on them? Having a bad passing day.
- 1:59:25Speaker 1: All right, that's gonna do it for us. The playbook
