Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Thanks Mike.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Lane seven and four lost to Ottawa a couple of
- 0:04Speaker 2: months ago. Postgame, not too happy, didn't mince any words
- 0:08Speaker 2: about the performance of the crack and on that contest.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Just take us through your thoughts and where you felt
- 0:12Speaker 2: it went wrong.
- 0:13Speaker 1: For your group.
- 0:15Speaker 3: It's just, you know, for me, it was a combination
- 0:18Speaker 3: of so many different.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Things that I could you know, I could be sitting.
- 0:21Speaker 3: Here talking about it for an hour. It was It
- 0:26Speaker 3: just wasn't a good hockey game for a team. And
- 0:28Speaker 3: you know, sometimes you say, okay, let's wipe that game
- 0:31Speaker 3: away and move on to the next one, and you
- 0:33Speaker 3: have to do that. But certainly we went over some
- 0:35Speaker 3: things in that game, because for me, this has probably happened,
- 0:40Speaker 3: you know, twice in the last six games since we've
- 0:42Speaker 3: come out of the break where we're just really not
- 0:45Speaker 3: very good and you know, it's crunch time. We need
- 0:49Speaker 3: to be better, you know, so they just you know,
- 0:54Speaker 3: they exposed us. They exposed us, you know, defensively, you know,
- 0:59Speaker 3: they made plays through us.
- 1:02Speaker 1: We weren't physical enough.
- 1:05Speaker 3: But the bottom line is that, you know, we can
- 1:08Speaker 3: live with not winning a hockey game as long as
- 1:10Speaker 3: we compete with emotion.
- 1:11Speaker 1: And I just didn't see.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Enough of that in the six games out of the break.
- 1:14Speaker 2: The results probably have not been where I think you
- 1:16Speaker 2: were the scroup wud have liked them to be.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Do you feel that there's maybe a larger issue for the.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Kraken or is this just something where they have to
- 1:23Speaker 2: dial in these last twenty games. Is there something specific
- 1:26Speaker 2: you can point to as to why there's team's been
- 1:29Speaker 2: struggling in these last six games?
- 1:32Speaker 3: Well, right now, I think going into the going into
- 1:36Speaker 3: the break, we were really connected.
- 1:38Speaker 1: We're a hockey team that you.
- 1:40Speaker 3: Know, we don't have any superstars, and you know we
- 1:44Speaker 3: have to be connected with five guys, and I think
- 1:47Speaker 3: for whatever reason, you know, we have played a little
- 1:51Speaker 3: bit disconnected.
- 1:53Speaker 1: And so you know that was the focus of practice yesterday.
- 1:57Speaker 2: You mentioned earlier this morning that you'd like to see
- 1:59Speaker 2: more from that nine forward group.
- 2:01Speaker 1: What steps can you take?
- 2:02Speaker 2: Can they take to generate more offense and find ways
- 2:06Speaker 2: to create more offensively for this.
- 2:08Speaker 3: Deep Well, it's like anything else, right you you know,
- 2:11Speaker 3: when you start to you know, not have success, to
- 2:15Speaker 3: start to squeeze your stick, they got to play with
- 2:17Speaker 3: some confidence, they got to play with some swagger, and
- 2:19Speaker 3: you know, for me, it's make more plays, make more plays,
- 2:23Speaker 3: move our feet, let's run our routes properly. You'll get
- 2:26Speaker 3: the puck back and then you know, let's generate more
- 2:30Speaker 3: opportunities and more shots on that. But certainly, you know,
- 2:34Speaker 3: our power play needs to get going here, you know,
- 2:38Speaker 3: since the break, you know, I mean before the break
- 2:42Speaker 3: we had. You know, they really did a great job
- 2:46Speaker 3: through the month of January through February scoring.
- 2:48Speaker 4: Big goals for us. So that's a big piece of
- 2:52Speaker 4: the puzzle, and it always bleeds in with the offensive
- 2:56Speaker 4: guys that are playing on the power play to five
- 2:58Speaker 4: on five you're having success, it bleeds into five on
- 3:02Speaker 4: five success because they.
- 3:03Speaker 3: Feel good about each other and feel good about themselves.
- 3:05Speaker 3: And if they aren't having success, that also leads in.
- 3:09Speaker 1: So you have to have a short term memory here,
- 3:11Speaker 1: and they've got to get going.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Bobby McMahon hit the ice yesterday for the first time
- 3:16Speaker 2: in practice. Sounds like he's a couple of days away
- 3:18Speaker 2: still with immigration and all of that. But what did
- 3:20Speaker 2: you think about his first turns with the krakend yesterday.
- 3:23Speaker 1: And fitting in with his new teammates.
- 3:25Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean he's you know, for the most party
- 3:28Speaker 3: he knows how I want him to play, but they made.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Some changes in Toronto this year.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Defensively that you know, I've just got to get him
- 3:38Speaker 3: out of those habits, you know.
- 3:41Speaker 1: And we need Bobby McMahon.
- 3:44Speaker 3: We traded for him for a reason and it's really
- 3:46Speaker 3: unfortunate that he's not able.
- 3:48Speaker 1: To play at the moment.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Nashville one of those teams you mentioned this morning as well,
- 3:53Speaker 2: probably the best in terms of getting towards the net.
- 3:55Speaker 2: They are right on your heels in that playoff race
- 3:58Speaker 2: here in the Western Conference. I mean two parterre here.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Just how big of a game is this tonight for
- 4:04Speaker 2: your group? And what do you need to see for
- 4:06Speaker 2: this team to take two points?
- 4:07Speaker 3: Well, I think it's you know, there's a lot of
- 4:10Speaker 3: teams that are right on our heels. If you look
- 4:11Speaker 3: at standings, you know it's LA and San Jose Air
- 4:15Speaker 3: one point behind us. Now, yeah, you have a little
- 4:18Speaker 3: bit of a bad stretch and all of a sudden
- 4:21Speaker 3: things tighten up, there's ground or if you have a
- 4:24Speaker 3: good stretch, you can gain some gain, some separation or
- 4:28Speaker 3: close the gap.
- 4:29Speaker 1: So you know, we still have our sights on.
- 4:32Speaker 3: You know, Edmonton and you know Vegas and Anaheim. But
- 4:37Speaker 3: we got to start winning some hockey games here, you know.
- 4:41Speaker 3: And for us, the Nashville Predators are a team that
- 4:45Speaker 3: are right behind us. We're in the same race as them.
- 4:49Speaker 3: And what I'm looking for out of our team tonight
- 4:52Speaker 3: is to come out and compete, and compete with the
- 4:54Speaker 3: motion and let the chips fall where they may. You know,
- 4:58Speaker 3: I've said from day one, as long as we leave
- 5:02Speaker 3: it all out there, we'll live with the results.
- 5:05Speaker 1: It's when.
- 5:07Speaker 3: You know, for whatever reason, whether it be you know,
- 5:11Speaker 3: get down a couple of goals and get discouraged and
- 5:13Speaker 3: you know, lose that emotion, you know that I can't
- 5:19Speaker 3: live with that.
- 5:20Speaker 1: I don't accept that. So let's play with the emotion.
- 5:24Speaker 3: Let's play our game, our way, and let's see what
- 5:28Speaker 3: happens on the scoreboard from there.
