- 0:00All right, Kashini, who is Filata El Bano?
- 0:05It is fundamental when you talk about how a person applies
- 0:10humility in action. So we discussed literally how
- 0:13you carry yourself physically, how you walk, talk and sit,
- 0:19which means if you walk in a heavy way and such a thing as
- 0:22walking in a heavy way, it's a real thing.
- 0:25Arrogant people know exactly how to walk, when to walk in, how to
- 0:28walk in with the head out eye. That's a real level of
- 0:31arrogance. Talk is clear, being
- 0:35intimidating. People don't really recognize
- 0:37this. If a person is an intimidating,
- 0:40scary person, then they may just be an old timer, find something
- 0:44else. But if they're a regular person
- 0:46and somehow people are afraid to talk to them, people are nervous
- 0:50when they're around them. There's an indication that the
- 0:54person we were referring to has a strong degree of arrogance
- 0:58because if he's intimidating, that means you're afraid he's
- 1:00going to lash out. It means you're afraid that he's
- 1:02going to be upset at you. It means you're afraid of what
- 1:04he thinks. These all reflect him carrying
- 1:07himself, and you're sort of judgmental, sort of strong, sort
- 1:12of. I believe I'm in power.
- 1:14Wait. And it's the final.
- 1:15The other idea was regarding sitting where you sit, literally
- 1:18where you sit, which means ensure if you feel the band the
- 1:22front row or by event or by even a holiday meal.
- 1:27If you're very particular about sitting in the front and you say
- 1:30it because you don't want to be out of the action, but it's also
- 1:32because you don't want to be disrespected and you don't feel
- 1:35like you should be behind whenever else is front.
- 1:37All the radio classic arguments people make for their humble
- 1:42reason of being sarcastic. The humble reason the.
- 1:44Bad girls for the mourners. Bad girl I understand, but the
- 1:49less less less. So I can understand your person
- 1:52avoiding that, but even that's not true.
- 1:55When does the mourner, they sit there, but really it's not true.
- 2:00But this idea a people demand a certain level of treatment and
- 2:05the way they sit as an example of that reflects A mindset that
- 2:09I deserve better. That's not the way I walk or the
- 2:13way I talk. That's the way I sit.
- 2:15In other words, what I feel I deserve.
- 2:17And that right there is a sense of entitlement.
- 2:21And entitlement is a reflection of arrogance because entitlement
- 2:25means that I have something coming to me.
- 2:27Entitled to mean translator, who is entitled to mean I am
- 2:30entitled? Something has got me here.
- 2:32Something has provided that I should be in this position.
- 2:35And what that means is I believe I'm well off.
- 2:38I believe I'm famous other than I should be.
- 2:41Excuse me, I believe I should be recognized and all these things
- 2:45reflect our degree of ours. And it's clear, quite simple.
- 2:50If someone feels entitled to be served first, to sit in the
- 2:55front, to be treated with respect, to be given the first
- 2:59Aaliyah, all right, He's all collections to be addressed
- 3:03first in a conversation, wherever it may be.
- 3:06These are all examples of 1. Believing it's coming to him and
- 3:10coming to you means you feel entitled and you feel entitled.
- 3:15That reflects arrogance so far. When?
- 3:18There's an old man's in the front row.
- 3:19Someone that you? Old man.
- 3:21In other words, you know you have say no he want to teach the
- 3:23people to miss or ah, he's an important people.
- 3:26Why does a person go from the back to the front floor?
- 3:28Beautiful. First of all, you hardly ever
- 3:31want to demand it. That's probably one.
- 3:34And second of all, you are right, which is a fundamental
- 3:36point. And that is this topic of
- 3:39respect from our point of view. Well, sometimes real conflict be
- 3:47a conflict to the topic that I just told you, which means if I
- 3:49have a person who's great, let's say you take even an elderly man
- 3:53or a great rabbi or your grandparents.
- 3:55And the, the, the requirement is that when they're walking to the
- 3:58room, the whole family stands up, right?
- 4:01Or at least everyone addresses him and respects him.
- 4:04And you say, but from, from their point of view, that's the
- 4:06case. But from your point of view,
- 4:08should he be demanding that? Shouldn't his mind he be
- 4:10expecting that? And in a certain sense, kind of
- 4:14terribly, yes, not demanding, but he should be expecting that.
- 4:18And that should be the proper protocol from both points of
- 4:21view. How does it play into inside the
- 4:24of arrogance? And the answer is when you're in
- 4:27a position of respect, usually the respect is not for you.
- 4:33The respect is for what you represent, general.
- 4:36So a father is a father figure, not so much me, but the father
- 4:41figure and the grandfather. Same thing, a rabbi, it's a
- 4:46tada. Not the rabbi, it's a tada.
- 4:48Which means the way the mindset should be is that what I'm
- 4:52giving respect to such a person? I'm respecting what they
- 4:56represent. When they're receiving their
- 4:58respect, they should be thinking I didn't do anything to deserve
- 5:01this. I'm blessed because how does a
- 5:04grandfather have this same mind, which is thank you Arshan for
- 5:08being in this position for the grandchildren that I'm gifted
- 5:11with. At the same time, that
- 5:15grandfather also is commanding and demanding respect.
- 5:19How does how does that humility and that sort of demand playing
- 5:23to each other? The commonality is in scenarios
- 5:27of respect. The theme is just that.
- 5:30The theme is that arrogance. The theme is that I deserve it.
- 5:33The theme is those people should be given respect to that title.
- 5:39Now I may be the person carrying that title and that therefore
- 5:42means I deserve the respect in the position that I'm in, but it
- 5:44is not coming from power, arrogance, entitlement and stuff
- 5:48like that. It's rather coming from they
- 5:52should be giving respect to that title.
- 5:54I am the one carrying along that title and that therefore means I
- 5:57get respect. Should I be humble?
- 5:59Sure. This is a Godzilla door who
- 6:01walks with the room and 20,000 people jump up fame once in a
- 6:04while. Should he work on his humility?
- 6:06Of course he does, and of course he has to.
- 6:09Shouldn't matter if he doesn't. He is running a great risk.
- 6:12Literally to David's point. Because if he ever in his mind
- 6:15believes that I'm walking into a stadium and I deserve that
- 6:20cheers and that standing up and that singing a song my name and
- 6:25he believes he deserves it, wow, that's dangerous as extremely,
- 6:29extremely dangerous. That can easily translate into
- 6:32the arrogance. Most of these people could care
- 6:34less for this stuff, but then what's the process?
- 6:37Instead? It's a process of respect.
- 6:39It's a different category. It does cross over to a person
- 6:44deserving to be treated well, which may seem like demanding
- 6:50covert, and it might seem like demanding a play into my
- 6:54arrogance. Hopefully they stay separate and
- 6:56hopefully it's not an individual being entitled, waving his
- 7:01power, saying I deserve it and that road.
- 7:04Instead, it's a situation of where they need to give respect.
- 7:08And I understand I'm the one who's carrying that title, which
- 7:11deserves respect. And therefore I'm going to take
- 7:14it. And therefore I'm even going to
- 7:15enjoy it. And I relish in the fact that my
- 7:18grandchildren treat me well and that they stand up for me.
- 7:21And I'm going to like the fact that a rabbi gets respect, not
- 7:24that I get respect or that I feel like I deserve it because
- 7:27what I've done in my life, that's a problem.
- 7:30See the difference there? Is that a clear difference?
- 7:33Do they have the potential of crisscrossing and creating your
- 7:35problem? Sure they do.
- 7:38Does a A, for example, I'll give you a clear example.
- 7:40If a rabbi would, let's say, walk at the room and he's a big
- 7:44guy door, excuse me, and they don't treat him well.
- 7:48All right, getting upset. There's another animal we'll get
- 7:51to in a second, but even mine is getting upset simply if he feels
- 7:55bad that they didn't give him the due respect.
- 7:59That right there is where this is Chris crossing.
- 8:03Which means he's telling to himself, I feel bad for Hashem.
- 8:07OK, you're right. I feel bad for myself that I
- 8:10didn't get the respect that I really deserve.
- 8:13I normally get that right there. You just hit them buying of
- 8:17entitlement and you you know you're missing the concept and
- 8:23not entitled and you should never expect it, demand it or
- 8:29lion because they ain't coming if that's the case, but I didn't
- 8:32he feared but he should feel except if he walks in and no one
- 8:35stands up, not because of himself.
- 8:37But because the. Patient doesn't know the respect
- 8:41to our respect for the rabbi, sure, but he should try to
- 8:44figure out what he did wrong. Maybe maybe or maybe not showing
- 8:47me that that there's also joints just.
- 8:50Arguments and things and maybe. They don't know he is, really.
- 8:53They know his words, right? Maybe they don't know what he's
- 8:56wearing. Time.
- 8:57Where my uncle and people disrespect him all the time of
- 9:00course and he served the respect and he just walked away like
- 9:04nothing, OK. So as an example, right as an
- 9:07example, maybe in certain rooms they didn't feel the treat or
- 9:11might, they didn't treat or might.
- 9:12And I ever, if a person gets upset at that situation, he's to
- 9:18me running the risk of misappropriating, misapplying
- 9:24the causes of respect. It's supposed to remain its own
- 9:27category. It's not supposed to remain
- 9:30entitled. That's the thing all right now,
- 9:32but thinking that you're entitled is direct error.
- 9:36Now 455 it comes back as you he says, please write into what you
- 9:40just mentioned there. And that is another way you
- 9:44notice how humble a person is, is how much he can take the
- 9:50heat, how much you can handle embarrassment.
- 9:54It's direct connection to the topic of respect that was
- 9:57brought up. How much you can handle being
- 10:00embarrassed being even disgraced at times, a lack of respect, a
- 10:06lack of being treated as well be treated like a regular guy.
- 10:09All those themes that right there is a translation of
- 10:14humility flat out. In fact, it's probably in my
- 10:17book the strongest indicator of how humble a person is is how
- 10:22much you can take it, which means play all the examples out
- 10:26in your mind. Someone comes at you and the
- 10:27yelling all right, someone comes at you and they're strong to
- 10:31you. Someone says something that's
- 10:33insulting. Insulting is her for hurtful you
- 10:36save my emotion. Keep it on arrogance and
- 10:38humility. Someone you have a million of
- 10:44these examples. Someone says something
- 10:46insinuates that you're not worth much.
- 10:48Someone makes themselves as there a big deal in your
- 10:50presence, which is trying to make you seem small on and on
- 10:55and on on on fact, probably if I can say majority, but maybe not
- 10:59majority, but a big percentage of what people do today in their
- 11:05conversations, especially if they're a little insecure, is
- 11:09that they try to find ways to make themselves look good.
- 11:13It's very often if you're in the conversation and you relate to
- 11:15it is trying to make you look bad.
- 11:17It's that simple. It's done by siblings, it's done
- 11:19by spouses, it's done my parents done my children.
- 11:21It's a cross board. The way people talk in the
- 11:25modern day. Oh, it's only the modern day,
- 11:27but probably I was always been this way.
- 11:29The way insecure people talk around you is they want to make
- 11:32themselves feel good, which very often at initially at the basic
- 11:38level makes you feel smaller. And if they're more direct, they
- 11:41want to make you feel small in order to build themselves off.
- 11:44It's basically levels of Haziq. If they're level 1 of Haziq,
- 11:47they just make themselves look good, which makes you feel
- 11:50small. If they're either stronger level
- 11:51Haziq to be honest with you, and they have to put you down to
- 11:55build themselves up regardless, life is a sea salt and people's
- 11:58conversations are sea salt always all right.
- 12:02Either they have to, like I said, lift themselves up.
- 12:04This is a decent decently insecure person.
- 12:07Lift themselves up and put you down.
- 12:09If they're very insecure, they put you down to lift themselves
- 12:13up. Regardless, it's the nature of
- 12:16people. When sisters talk, when families
- 12:19have conversations by Shabbat table, when people talk about
- 12:22themselves and shul, when when, when friends get together.
- 12:26This is just the nature of people.
- 12:27If there's insecurity in the ranks, get ready for somebody to
- 12:32put you down. It's the way they do it.
- 12:34I don't think I'm over speaking, you know?
- 12:35Am I right? I think this is the structure.
- 12:38That being the case, your test of how humble you are in your
- 12:45actions is what's your reaction? What do you say back?
- 12:48Do you just take it? Do you look the other way?
- 12:51Do you say yourself, thank God I'm blessed?
- 12:53In fact, the only reason why they're talking straight to me
- 12:56is because I'm blessed. Do you have a response which can
- 13:01help you? I'll tell you something.
- 13:02I think this is fundamental in this concept of response.
- 13:06There is of course, this is a whole chapter of humility and
- 13:09the way to respond in your mind is with humility or just lack of
- 13:12reaction. I have a humble, arrogant way to
- 13:15respond, OK. And personally, this is my
- 13:18method, OK, When someone does this type of insecurity around
- 13:22me and I see it all day long and I deal with it all day long very
- 13:26often and I recognize it is I can notice it when it's coming
- 13:29and they do this insecurity thing around me.
- 13:31To me, I want to be humble, but I have a little bit of a trick.
- 13:36It's humble arrogance. What does that mean?
- 13:38Humble arrogance. I can immediately detect like a
- 13:41spy on this area. I can immediately detect on
- 13:44someone who's talking them insecurity always.
- 13:47I can read it in a second, talking about what they done,
- 13:49what they're doing with the coming, with the going, how
- 13:51great they are, all that action, right?
- 13:54Insecurity, straight up, how much money they're making, how
- 13:57things are going. Insecure.
- 13:58They're talking about the kids and how great the kids are and
- 14:01how proud they are. The kids in school, hint
- 14:04insecurity. It's all those things, right?
- 14:08My basic reaction, if it bothers me because it bothers everyone
- 14:13and the reality is in our community, it's one of the main
- 14:15areas of our conversations. Make people walk away with a
- 14:19little funny feeling in your stomach.
- 14:20You walk away from a conversation very often, but
- 14:23he's big get togethers, he's big action where everyone, by the
- 14:26way, gets along. Everyone loves each other and
- 14:28everyone wants to be there initially.
- 14:30Then you walk away like, why the holiday meal not go the way I
- 14:32plan? What?
- 14:33Was there anything wrong? I just don't feel so good.
- 14:36Why? Because my kids are misbehaving,
- 14:39which is always the case. That's how we feel.
- 14:42And so and those kids, I can't believe how well they behave.
- 14:45What are they doing in the house?
- 14:47All right. And then in the conversation,
- 14:50she said, right, She said, you know, she has a system, she has
- 14:54bedtime and it's like clockwork as she said her kids are well
- 14:58over slept. They rest well.
- 15:00They're always organized and that's why they're doing so
- 15:03well. And your wife walks away,
- 15:05daughter walks away and she's like, I feel like I'm doing
- 15:08everything wrong. And you say, oh, come on, how?
- 15:12Because so and so she's doing everything right.
- 15:14She feeds them well, She makes me go to bedtime.
- 15:17Well, she never allows them to, you know, take a minute when it
- 15:20comes to bedtime. They better go upstairs or else.
- 15:23And she has a structure. We're not a structure.
- 15:25We're doing something wrong. All right, OK.
- 15:28It sounds like I know this system too well.
- 15:29What I do in this situation is my humble brag situation and
- 15:33that is identify why they told you about the bedtime.
- 15:39Why do you think they cared to share that information?
- 15:42You think they're trying to give you a tip?
- 15:44No, or they are showing you is that they need a pat on the
- 15:48back. They need you to know how great
- 15:50they are. Not every time, but often times.
- 15:52Therefore, in fact, they're insecure and you should go home
- 15:56and say to yourself, I am more secure than them because I
- 16:01didn't feel the need to decide my children's success and like
- 16:06based on how well they sleep or how well organized I believe my
- 16:12house is. I didn't feel the need to
- 16:14publicize how good a job I'm doing on my own.
- 16:17In fact, I remained quiet, aware of that.
- 16:20Show humility. That shows confidence because
- 16:23they're the same. I thought you were going to say
- 16:25a compliment. That's a move to move, you know,
- 16:29because because he's saying that they're looking for a pat on the
- 16:31back. Yeah, I do all the time.
- 16:33I'm with you on 100%. Takes a lot of strength to go
- 16:38that far for these women to sit together and one is talking
- 16:42about like ducks in a row. They make the children seem so
- 16:45beautiful. They always are clean.
- 16:48They never misbehave. They never yell.
- 16:50They never fight. Somehow all the markets fight.
- 16:53They kids never fight right. They always sit by the table.
- 16:57They always sit by the table. They always ready in the morning
- 17:00to go on the bus. These kids are like that, Mother
- 17:04is. Really working hard a.
- 17:06Blue don't, don't share with me. Don't make me know.
- 17:10I because you know what you're saying every time.
- 17:12Dagger, dagger, punch, punch. That's what you're trying to
- 17:15say. That's what you're saying.
- 17:17I you know what? Why can't you be proud of your
- 17:20children on your own? Why do you need the broader
- 17:24family to know how great you're doing?
- 17:25Because I tell you a little news flash that is hard to say and
- 17:30it's hard to absorb, but it's reality.
- 17:32Nobody is able to stomach other people's success in scenarios
- 17:39where it reflects their failure. Now, if you're good at this
- 17:43game, the game of life, you're strong enough to say their
- 17:47success does not reflect my failure.
- 17:49The wealth does not mean my life is not worth anything.
- 17:53There are good children doesn't mean my wild because they're a
- 17:56problem, They're amazing. Marriage doesn't mean to my
- 18:00marriage in its own way is a problem.
- 18:03No, they have theirs and I have mine.
- 18:06The classic Yamada, and I'm not a big Ayana, not a but there's a
- 18:09classic Yamada that talks about the fact that there was a rabbi,
- 18:13the person with a hard time having children, hard time
- 18:17having children. And he was asked, they were
- 18:20asked how did Shalom bite? How did Shalom bite is literally
- 18:26wow, unbelievable. OK, I have an idea.
- 18:30Fight publicly. Let someone see how you guys
- 18:35fight. What crazy, What crazy idea is
- 18:38it? Don't let everyone see that
- 18:40things are all rosy. And by the way, this is a
- 18:43practical, practical thing to do in the homes as well.
- 18:45You buy a person by the in laws and they're sitting and then
- 18:49whispering to their wife and all I guess.
- 18:52And so and so is having ups and downs.
- 18:54Don't whisper. Don't do kilo.
- 18:57You know you're you're, you're just so cozy and awesome doing
- 19:00your own time. You can whisper at home.
- 19:03Don't remember, there are people in the room whose lives are not
- 19:08fun always at all times. There are people in these rooms
- 19:12whose lives are challenging at least in one area.
- 19:14So don't talk about your wealth and your children and and your
- 19:16Shalom and how things are going and wow, he went on that
- 19:20vacation. I said I got I recommend these
- 19:22are the people there right When people recommend what they're in
- 19:26a sense of saying is I haven't figured out.
- 19:28I recommend you should go on this because they know you can't
- 19:33go. You can't afford it to.
- 19:34I recommend that you should go to Paris.
- 19:37It's great for you. What you are saying is you
- 19:40haven't figured out you know what you're saying to me that
- 19:43I'm not really worth and my situation is not as awesome as
- 19:45yours. All these things make you feel
- 19:47small and I think the only way to handle it is like he's
- 19:51telling you, first of all, you can eat it, you can absorb, you
- 19:54can handle a great sound of your Moody.
- 19:56But you do need confidence to have a method in your mind to
- 20:01respond. If you're an Uber humble person,
- 20:04no need for any response in your mind, any, any confidence, just
- 20:07take it and go on. But if you're a practical person
- 20:10in the modern day, you need in your mind some response.
- 20:14And our response for me over the years has always been they could
- 20:19have theirs, they can enjoy it. I'm going to take it.
- 20:23But I think I am more blessed than they are, not in every way,
- 20:26but in my ways. And the truth is we can all have
- 20:29that translation because every one of us in our own way is more
- 20:32blessed than somebody else. You never want someone else's
- 20:36package. It's not a person in the
- 20:38community and you want their situation, not one that's a
- 20:41strong same in the state, but it's a fact, right?
- 20:44It's not one person in the entire community that you want
- 20:46there. As they say in Yiddish Chapeka,
- 20:48you never wanted their packages ever.
- 20:50That means and God gave you exactly what you like.
- 20:54You don't want my problems and I'm wondering a lot of.
- 20:56Times you give advice to them, yeah, that you have good meaning
- 20:58most because you you're really good and good advice Exactly.
- 21:01So you're not. Advice.
- 21:03I was to go on vacation. Like no.
- 21:05See it? We're not giving.
- 21:06Out of negative, We're telling you because I agree.
- 21:09When you told me to go to Israel and when he when and I went and
- 21:13when you you guys told me to go on vacation.
- 21:16I'm fully understanding. First of all, from a convent to
- 21:19a rabbi is not seen as equals because rabbi is bigger than a
- 21:23convent. It's just a different style of
- 21:24life. So because of that, it's same as
- 21:26a worker to a boss or a child to a parent, though they never
- 21:30considered equals. And a sister tells her sister to
- 21:34go on vacation and she knows that that sister and her husband
- 21:37has different work schedule. What she is saying is my
- 21:41husband, he's awesome. Your husband.
- 21:45She may not try to be saying that and she might be saying
- 21:48that every time, but there is that element too.
- 21:50And you are right. Advice often times includes
- 21:54recommendations and these recommendations might have come
- 21:57for you try and work in your life.
- 22:00So you might be recommending. Listen, I think the movie is
- 22:03never waver on your children. 830 give them you know they tell
- 22:07you this classical line. Let them sleep late at 9 o'clock
- 22:109:00 is 9:00. Nine O 1, it's nine O 2.
- 22:13It's 9:00. What they're saying is they have
- 22:15that figured out. And what they might be saying,
- 22:17if you hear it the wrong way, is you don't know what you're
- 22:20doing. Or maybe at times they're
- 22:21telling you. I write a book.
- 22:23I heard a class I went to a lecture, I heard a thing so a
- 22:27video. Here's an idea they have how
- 22:30they do that by the way, they have it all figured out when
- 22:32they're telling me to you. But if you're in their house and
- 22:34bedtime is 9 O clock not got get 9 O2.
- 22:37Those kids are still in general that's the case.
- 22:39Ask people with. Experience or really right now
- 22:41so. That's it.
- 22:42If they're real, if they're real and it's not so common, if
- 22:45they're real, they're absolutely call like I would.
- 22:48I want to hear, by the way, those people can tell as a
- 22:52listener is interested or they can tell as a listener just got
- 22:55stuck in a situation that he can't get out of by listening to
- 22:57this conversation. So.
- 22:59So this community is so much good advice.
- 23:00Give it sure. There's so much, sure.
- 23:03But a lot of the best advice comes with people that are not
- 23:06in the same wavelength. That's the best areas, right?
- 23:09Or friends that are really rooting for each other, same as
- 23:13siblings. But a lot, a lot, a lot of
- 23:16opinions. I'm not saying it's but all, but
- 23:18a lot of the opinions out there and recommendations are
- 23:22different coded ways of saying I'm awesome and you're on your
- 23:26way. That's basically what they're
- 23:27saying. That's arrogance upon arrogance.
- 23:29A person's got to really avoid saying that and from this point
- 23:33point of view, avoid hearing it and caring.
- 23:36Just recognize where it came from.
- 23:38Just ideal stuff. It's.
