- 0:05Speaker 1: Welcome to Just the Cats with Michael Bennett.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Hello, Big Blue Nation. It is Friday, September 25th, and
- 0:18Speaker 2: I'm not Michael Bennett. This is Dr. John Huang filling
- 0:21Speaker 2: in for Michael. He has graciously handed me over the
- 0:27Speaker 2: controls to this airplane for the next couple of days.
- 0:29Speaker 2: I'll be here with you Friday, today. And on Monday,
- 0:33Speaker 2: but fortunately, I am not alone. I have my co-pilot,
- 0:37Speaker 2: Justin Kalen, with me. Justin, is that a new opening
- 0:41Speaker 2: that I just heard? That sounded a little bit different.
- 0:44Speaker 3: It's a new voice. Same open, new voice.
- 0:48Speaker 2: All right. I think just like anything else, it'll take
- 0:51Speaker 2: a little while to get used to it. My understanding
- 0:53Speaker 2: is that you'll be with me this first hour, but
- 0:56Speaker 2: then you're going to take a parachute and you're going
- 0:57Speaker 2: to jump out, bail out on me. And what's going
- 1:01Speaker 2: to happen then? And I'm going to be left alone
- 1:03Speaker 2: to pilot this thing?
- 1:04Speaker 3: You are not. Unfortunately, well, or maybe fortunately, depending on
- 1:08Speaker 3: how you look at it, your plane's going to do
- 1:11Speaker 3: a couple flips in the air. You're going to do
- 1:14Speaker 3: a couple barrel rolls.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Oh, my goodness.
- 1:16Speaker 3: And we're going to get Trevor in here, and he is...
- 1:19Speaker 3: He is quite the crazy co-pilot.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Trevor.
- 1:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:24Speaker 2: I have never worked with Trevor. I've never met Trevor.
- 1:27Speaker 2: I've never talked to Trevor. This is just like Michael Bennett.
- 1:31Speaker 2: You mean he's going to go ahead and leave control
- 1:35Speaker 2: of this airplane to two guys who have never, ever
- 1:38Speaker 2: even interacted with each other in any way, shape or form.
- 1:42Speaker 2: This is a big operation. I'm not sure we're not
- 1:45Speaker 2: going to crash and burn on this thing. Reassure me, please.
- 1:49Speaker 3: I'm not sure that that's not going to happen either,
- 1:51Speaker 3: but I will let you know that something to make
- 1:53Speaker 3: you feel a little better. So we have the same situation.
- 1:56Speaker 3: probably about a month and a half ago, we had
- 1:58Speaker 3: a remote broadcast and I've got to be on site
- 2:00Speaker 3: for our remote broadcast. So I actually didn't tell Michael
- 2:03Speaker 3: till the day of Trevor was going to be filling
- 2:06Speaker 3: in for the second hour. So he was really worried.
- 2:09Speaker 3: Turns out Michael and Trevor became best friends and that
- 2:12Speaker 3: they still talk about each other today.
- 2:14Speaker 2: So, Well, they are professionals in the true sense of
- 2:18Speaker 2: the word then. But I will make no bones about it.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Michael Bennett and I are very, very different. And I
- 2:24Speaker 2: know people are tuning in to Just the Cats. to
- 2:27Speaker 2: hear Michael Bennett and Justin Kalen. I'm not him. In fact,
- 2:31Speaker 2: I am probably the opposite of Michael Bennett. He is loud, boisterous,
- 2:37Speaker 2: very opinionated, can be a little bit off-putting at times,
- 2:41Speaker 2: very gregarious, loves people, loves to be in a crowd,
- 2:45Speaker 2: gets energized. I am a little bit more reserved. I'm
- 2:49Speaker 2: not a radio guy.
- 2:51Speaker 3: I'm a writer.
- 2:52Speaker 2: I like my time alone. I get recharged by my
- 2:55Speaker 2: time alone. I'm one of these guys, I can rent
- 2:58Speaker 2: room in a monastery and probably be happy. So radio
- 3:02Speaker 2: is a little bit out of my comfort zone. I
- 3:04Speaker 2: am going to apologize in advance. And because of that,
- 3:08Speaker 2: I need the listener's help, especially on a day like
- 3:11Speaker 2: today in which we're kind of banking back and forth
- 3:14Speaker 2: with this plane. Whiskey Thief text line 502-414-1450. That's 502-414-1450.
- 3:26Speaker 2: And the problem with that, Justin, is that I can't
- 3:29Speaker 2: see any of the texts coming in. So you're going
- 3:32Speaker 2: to have to read them to me. Or if people
- 3:34Speaker 2: want to kind of just go over your head, they
- 3:37Speaker 2: can message me directly on X. I've got it open
- 3:42Speaker 2: in front of me. It's at KentuckyKwongs, K-Y-H-U-A-N-G-S, and I'll
- 3:48Speaker 2: try to read any of those, but we do need
- 3:51Speaker 2: your help. Justin, I know also that I am not
- 3:55Speaker 2: Michael's first choice. I know he went to many, many
- 3:58Speaker 2: people in the bullpen until he got to me. I'm
- 4:01Speaker 2: just the guy at the end of the bench. I
- 4:04Speaker 2: am just the guy at the deep end of the
- 4:06Speaker 2: bullpen where Nobody else agrees to do the show. Then I,
- 4:11Speaker 2: as a friend will.
- 4:12Speaker 3: Step up and help out. I'm not going to, we're
- 4:15Speaker 3: not starting a pity party on a Friday. I don't
- 4:18Speaker 3: think you were last in the bullpen. You, first of all,
- 4:20Speaker 3: you did a great job last time you filled in
- 4:22Speaker 3: with the exception of taking breaks a little bit late.
- 4:25Speaker 3: But other than that, I thought you did a tremendous job.
- 4:27Speaker 3: And I think we're looking for more of the same today.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Well, it's a big bar to look up to, and
- 4:33Speaker 2: I hope you are right, but no promises from that standpoint.
- 4:39Speaker 2: I'm also a little bit tired today. I had to
- 4:42Speaker 2: go to Cincinnati early this morning and pick up my daughter.
- 4:47Speaker 2: She is flying in from LA, and I agreed to
- 4:50Speaker 2: do that because there are no direct flights from LA
- 4:54Speaker 2: to Lexington, and if anything I can do to save
- 4:57Speaker 2: her a little bit of time, to provide her a
- 4:59Speaker 2: little bit of comfort, you're going to do that for
- 5:01Speaker 2: your kids. And she had a hard day at work,
- 5:03Speaker 2: and so she wanted a red-eye flight that she could
- 5:06Speaker 2: go ahead and sleep through. Well, this is one of
- 5:10Speaker 2: the reasons why I don't travel much anymore. It is
- 5:13Speaker 2: a pain in the butt. She literally had a flight
- 5:17Speaker 2: from hell. First of all, she's got the aisle seat.
- 5:21Speaker 2: The guy in the window has diarrhea.
- 5:24Speaker 3: Oh, no.
- 5:25Speaker 2: So he's running back and forth to the laboratory many,
- 5:30Speaker 2: many times. And long story short, she gets no sleep
- 5:34Speaker 2: at all. But my question to you and to any
- 5:37Speaker 2: of the listeners, shouldn't that guy have at least shown
- 5:40Speaker 2: a little bit of common courtesy to a fellow traveler
- 5:44Speaker 2: by maybe asking to switch seats or whatever. I pity
- 5:48Speaker 2: the guy. I mean, I've been there before. There are
- 5:50Speaker 2: not many worse places to have an upset stomach than
- 5:55Speaker 2: on an airplane, right? I don't like to go use
- 5:57Speaker 2: the laboratories for number one. Can you imagine using number two?
- 6:01Speaker 2: You're sitting there, you're cramped, no room to move around.
- 6:05Speaker 2: You want to be a little bit of consciousness. You
- 6:09Speaker 2: don't want the people waiting on you to be waiting
- 6:12Speaker 2: five minutes while you're in there doing your thing, too. Plus,
- 6:15Speaker 2: it smells bad. So there are a lot of bad
- 6:17Speaker 2: things that go into that. But man, she didn't get
- 6:21Speaker 2: any sleep at all. So she's sacked out right now.
- 6:24Speaker 2: I'm kind of running on fumes. That's the other part
- 6:27Speaker 2: of the pity party. I promise that'll be it. no
- 6:31Speaker 2: more from that.
- 6:32Speaker 3: So i couldn't be any more opposite than you with
- 6:34Speaker 3: airplane bathrooms so i'm a little guy maybe that benefits
- 6:38Speaker 3: me that i've never really felt like cramped in a
- 6:40Speaker 3: bathroom and i don't know i don't anytime i fly
- 6:43Speaker 3: it's almost like a mission for me to go in
- 6:45Speaker 3: there and use the bathroom once because how cool is
- 6:47Speaker 3: that you're flying in the air and you're using the
- 6:49Speaker 3: bathroom like that's that's pretty awesome so i that's almost
- 6:52Speaker 3: my mission when i fly.
- 6:55Speaker 2: I think flying would be a lot easier if you
- 6:57Speaker 2: were the only one on the plane, right? I guess
- 7:01Speaker 2: my gripe is common courtesy nowadays is gone. Katie also
- 7:05Speaker 2: said there was another woman in this row in front
- 7:08Speaker 2: of her who had this big, bright reading light on
- 7:12Speaker 2: the whole night. On a red-eye flight, it is also
- 7:17Speaker 2: common courtesy to kind of keep everything, well, everyone, Realize
- 7:21Speaker 2: people want to sleep on that. There are a lot
- 7:23Speaker 2: of business travelers. There's a lot of people who specifically
- 7:26Speaker 2: schedule that flight just in order to be able to
- 7:29Speaker 2: get some rest. And I realize it's not first class.
- 7:32Speaker 2: It's not premium economy even work. we're over there in steerage,
- 7:36Speaker 2: but still common courtesy is lost nowadays.
- 7:40Speaker 3: It absolutely is. And you're right in both situations, definite
- 7:43Speaker 3: more so with the guy with the diarrhea. I mean,
- 7:45Speaker 3: why would he not be like, Hey, you want to
- 7:47Speaker 3: switch seats? So I don't have to bother you all night.
- 7:49Speaker 3: I mean, that, that would have been the nice, easy
- 7:51Speaker 3: thing to do, but I get it. If the dude
- 7:53Speaker 3: wants to have a window seat, then you like what
- 7:55Speaker 3: you like. Maybe he has to have a window seat
- 7:57Speaker 3: to eases anxiety or something i mean you never know
- 8:00Speaker 3: what he was dealing with but then the yeah i
- 8:02Speaker 3: mean i can understand the reading but maybe like i
- 8:05Speaker 3: don't know can't you unscrew the light bulb a little
- 8:07Speaker 3: bit and make it less bright just a thought yeah you.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Ought to be able to turn those things down or
- 8:12Speaker 2: maybe hide in a way in which it's not lighting
- 8:15Speaker 2: up the entire three rows in and around you all
- 8:20Speaker 2: right uh let's see speaking speaking of stinking it up
- 8:25Speaker 2: uh did you watch the uh Packers Falcons last night.
- 8:31Speaker 3: Packers. Dang.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Yeah, you think LeFleur is on the hot seat right now,
- 8:36Speaker 2: or at least he's getting very, very warm, right?
- 8:39Speaker 3: I would say, yeah. I mean, it feels like he's
- 8:41Speaker 3: been on the hot seat for months, or for years now,
- 8:44Speaker 3: I mean. I mean, ever since he made that goofy
- 8:46Speaker 3: decision in the playoff to take the field goal when
- 8:48Speaker 3: they're down eight points with like three minutes left in
- 8:51Speaker 3: the game, they end up losing. I mean, that was
- 8:52Speaker 3: just a goofy decision. But yeah, it seems like Packers
- 8:56Speaker 3: fans have been very unhappy with him for a while now.
- 8:58Speaker 3: And that result last night, I mean, Atlanta scored more
- 9:02Speaker 3: points in the first half than they had in their
- 9:04Speaker 3: previous two games total. That's bad.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Yeah, that just goes to show you that the NFL,
- 9:09Speaker 2: more than anything, is a week-to-week league. You just never
- 9:13Speaker 2: know what's going to happen. Atlanta, coming into that game,
- 9:17Speaker 2: I was thinking was one of the worst teams in
- 9:20Speaker 2: the league. And now everybody's talking about them winning their division,
- 9:24Speaker 2: maybe competing for a possible Super Bowl. It is wild.
- 9:29Speaker 2: I'll give you that. Bajon Robinson, best back in the league.
- 9:33Speaker 3: He's in the top three easily.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Yeah, he gets almost 200 yards rushing. Drake London, almost
- 9:39Speaker 2: 200 yards receiving. That's a heck of a one-two punch. Packers,
- 9:44Speaker 2: I'll give it to him. Had some injuries. O-line was hurt.
- 9:47Speaker 2: Jagger Burton, former UK star, got the start, I think,
- 9:51Speaker 2: at left tackle. So rather inauspicious start, to say the least.
- 9:56Speaker 2: But still, it's good to see UK guys in the NFL.
- 10:01Speaker 3: Coming from an Indiana fan with me, you're going to
- 10:04Speaker 3: start to see a lot more of that moving forward.
- 10:07Speaker 3: Once Will Stein gets things rolling, I mean, obviously that
- 10:10Speaker 3: big win over Texas A & M, you will have
- 10:13Speaker 3: a draft in the near future where 8, 10, 12
- 10:17Speaker 3: Kentucky guys are getting drafted. And then it's like then
- 10:20Speaker 3: NFL becomes even more fun somehow because then you're looking
- 10:24Speaker 3: out for the guys that used to play for your
- 10:26Speaker 3: favorite college team now in the professional levels. I mean,
- 10:30Speaker 3: for me, that's been a lot of fun just following
- 10:32Speaker 3: the Indiana– there's never been but, I don't know, three,
- 10:35Speaker 3: four Indiana guys in the NFL at one given time.
- 10:38Speaker 3: Now there's, I think, 15. So I think Kentucky will
- 10:41Speaker 3: get to that point as well, and that will be
- 10:42Speaker 3: a lot of fun to follow.
- 10:45Speaker 2: What is a true expectation for IU fans nowadays? Have
- 10:48Speaker 2: they gone over the edge? Are they spoiled now to
- 10:51Speaker 2: the point where you're fully expecting to be not only
- 10:54Speaker 2: in the college playoffs, but once again, competing for a
- 10:57Speaker 2: national championship? Is it that unrealistic? Or let me ask you,
- 11:01Speaker 2: is that unrealistic right now?
- 11:03Speaker 3: With what we've seen out of Cignetti, I don't think
- 11:05Speaker 3: that is realistic. And that is 1000% the expectation. I mean,
- 11:09Speaker 3: when he's come in and done what he did the
- 11:11Speaker 3: first two years, he's lost two games. I mean, he's
- 11:14Speaker 3: 30 and two as Indiana's coach. So yeah, the expectations
- 11:18Speaker 3: are You want to be competing for those titles every
- 11:20Speaker 3: single year. I mean, I'll be honest with you. Last
- 11:23Speaker 3: weekend when Indiana beat Western Kentucky 38-0, I was mad.
- 11:27Speaker 3: I was not happy with that result. If you would
- 11:29Speaker 3: have told me that five years ago that we'd shut
- 11:32Speaker 3: out Western Kentucky and beat them 38-0, I would have
- 11:35Speaker 3: been through the roof happy. But I was upset, and
- 11:38Speaker 3: that's what Cignetti's done to Indiana.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Yeah, you are now a victim of your own success
- 11:43Speaker 2: right now. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it could
- 11:46Speaker 2: potentially be a bad thing. I'm hoping Kentucky football is
- 11:50Speaker 2: going to move that way. I want to do a
- 11:52Speaker 2: little bit of housekeeping and just throw this out to
- 11:55Speaker 2: any of the listeners out there. Please respond. Once again,
- 11:58Speaker 2: Whiskey Thief text line 502-414-1450. Which Kentucky team is closer
- 12:06Speaker 2: to the truth? The one that we saw stink it
- 12:08Speaker 2: up in the second half against Alabama or the one
- 12:12Speaker 2: that we saw at Texas A & M? That game
- 12:17Speaker 2: at A & M, I know you all have talked
- 12:19Speaker 2: about it ad nauseum this week, but I think it's
- 12:23Speaker 2: worth talking about. That third quarter was literally one of
- 12:26Speaker 2: the best quarters that I've ever seen Kentucky football play,
- 12:29Speaker 2: and I've been watching them for probably the past 60 years. Literally, yeah, yeah,
- 12:35Speaker 2: 60 years. I can't believe I'm even saying that right now.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Was it one of the best upsets ever? Probably not,
- 12:43Speaker 2: but it's up there. You know, I, like a lot
- 12:46Speaker 2: of other people, think that game, that upset of number
- 12:49Speaker 2: one at LSU, is probably at the top of the
- 12:52Speaker 2: Mount Rushmore of UK upsets. For me personally, I attended
- 12:58Speaker 2: two of the other ones that I think ranked above them.
- 13:01Speaker 2: That was 2016 against Louisville, the Lamar Fumble game, where Kentucky,
- 13:07Speaker 2: I think they were down, weren't they underdogs by four
- 13:10Speaker 2: touchdowns that game? Think about it. Four touchdowns. touchdown underdog,
- 13:16Speaker 2: on the road, Heisman candidate, they pull that one off.
- 13:20Speaker 2: I don't know, maybe that's almost up there with that
- 13:23Speaker 2: LSU victory, you know, from that standpoint. Then 2000, and
- 13:28Speaker 2: I think it was 18, I was also down there,
- 13:31Speaker 2: the Swamp in Florida. Kentucky had not beaten Florida in
- 13:35Speaker 2: 31 years. And to pull that off, everybody in the
- 13:39Speaker 2: press box was just shocked. I was kind of new
- 13:42Speaker 2: on the media beat. And I was going, hey, this
- 13:45Speaker 2: is great, fantastic. And then the old stalwarts who had
- 13:49Speaker 2: been covering, actually covering Kentucky in the media for 50 years,
- 13:53Speaker 2: people like Dick Gabriel and such were saying, Doc, you
- 13:56Speaker 2: don't know what you just saw. I can't tell you
- 13:59Speaker 2: the number of years that we've come down here and
- 14:02Speaker 2: left with our tail tucked between our legs. You come
- 14:06Speaker 2: down here to the swamp the first time. and they
- 14:09Speaker 2: win the whole thing. It's like IU fans with Cignetti. Okay,
- 14:12Speaker 2: I'm a little bit spoiled. I expect Kentucky to beat
- 14:15Speaker 2: Florida now as a media member. But that's how those
- 14:20Speaker 2: things go. So I would rank those two right up
- 14:22Speaker 2: there with them. But just coming off of the game,
- 14:27Speaker 2: the second half against Bama, and to see Kentucky just
- 14:31Speaker 2: punch those Aggies in the mouth, it was bully ball. Literally,
- 14:35Speaker 2: they took it to them. in front of 105,000 people.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Kyle Field, I was down there the last time when
- 14:42Speaker 2: Kentucky took him to overtime but lost. That place is
- 14:46Speaker 2: absolutely fantastic. Have you ever been down there by any chance?
- 14:49Speaker 3: I have not. No, there's not many other college football
- 14:53Speaker 3: stadiums that I have been to. I've seen Michigan's up
- 14:56Speaker 3: in Ann Arbor, but I've never been to a game there. But, yeah,
- 14:59Speaker 3: I've hardly had my eyes on any other stadium, which
- 15:02Speaker 3: is why.
- 15:02Speaker 2: Yeah, Horseshoe at Ohio State, that's another big one. I
- 15:06Speaker 2: went there for one game. I'm like you. I've looked
- 15:10Speaker 2: out over that Michigan Bowl, but I've never been there
- 15:12Speaker 2: when they actually played. Penn State, Happy Valley is another,
- 15:17Speaker 2: I think, bucket list item. Believe it or not, I
- 15:21Speaker 2: have done all the road venues in the SEC except Arkansas,
- 15:27Speaker 2: I'm going to Oklahoma this year.
- 15:29Speaker 3: Okay.
- 15:30Speaker 2: And I have not done what I think is the
- 15:32Speaker 2: top one, and that's Tiger Stadium, LSU, Death Valley.
- 15:36Speaker 3: That would be the top of my bucket list.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Yeah, from that standpoint.
- 15:41Speaker 3: All right.
- 15:41Speaker 2: It's time for our first break. I want to be
- 15:45Speaker 2: at least a little bit early, if not on time
- 15:47Speaker 2: for that one. Take the monkey off my back.
- 15:50Speaker 3: Dr. John.
- 15:52Speaker 2: We'll be right back with you. after our first break
- 15:55Speaker 2: just the cats with dr john huang.
- 15:58Speaker 4: And they stay there.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Yeah, unfortunately, I can't hear any of it, so I
- 16:29Speaker 2: assume I'll bop along to a little bit of nothing.
- 16:33Speaker 3: I forgot to tell you that, yeah. You won't be
- 16:35Speaker 3: able to hear the music, but you can hear everything else.
- 16:37Speaker 2: Okay, well, I assume we are back. Is that correct?
- 16:40Speaker 3: We're back, yeah.
- 16:41Speaker 2: All right, welcome back, everybody. I appreciate you listening in.
- 16:45Speaker 2: Bluegrass Recruiting tweets in. Kentucky Kwongs, what did you say?
- 16:51Speaker 3: I think....
- 16:54Speaker 2: He's inferring that maybe I said a cuss word during
- 16:57Speaker 2: that first segment. Did you hear a cuss word? I
- 16:59Speaker 2: don't think I said any cuss word at all. No.
- 17:02Speaker 2: All right. Speaking of cuss words, evidently our Kentucky football coach,
- 17:07Speaker 2: Will Stein, has a little bit of a potty mouth.
- 17:11Speaker 2: A lot of a potty mouth. Some of his comments
- 17:16Speaker 2: have been well documented, not only the semi-private ones in
- 17:21Speaker 2: the locker room after the big wins, but even publicly.
- 17:25Speaker 2: He's been known to let out a couple of cuss
- 17:28Speaker 2: words and F-bomb here occasionally. I wanted to know from a...
- 17:35Speaker 2: I guess an unbiased opinion such as yourself, Justin, and
- 17:39Speaker 2: for any of the listeners out there, how do you
- 17:41Speaker 2: feel about the coach at the University of Kentucky having
- 17:46Speaker 2: such a prolific vocabulary today? in terms of these words.
- 17:53Speaker 2: What say ye?
- 17:54Speaker 3: It really is funny because it's so different than Mark Pope, right?
- 17:58Speaker 3: Like year one, we thought we saw Mark Pope say
- 18:01Speaker 3: a BS on national TV and it.
- 18:03Speaker 2: Was like, whoa, Mark Pope cussed, holy smokes.
- 18:07Speaker 3: And then you see, what did it for me was
- 18:10Speaker 3: not only some of the media stuff where he slipped
- 18:13Speaker 3: up and dropped some F-bombs or whatnot, but what did
- 18:15Speaker 3: it for me this past week was when they put
- 18:18Speaker 3: the uncut video out and he was doing his pregame
- 18:22Speaker 3: speech and it was every other word in that pregame speech.
- 18:27Speaker 3: And I'm like, what is happening here? But I mean,
- 18:30Speaker 3: for me, I don't have a problem with it, especially
- 18:32Speaker 3: when it comes to the game of football. You listen
- 18:34Speaker 3: to football coaches and it does seem like more times
- 18:38Speaker 3: than not, they have a, a rougher mouth than coaches
- 18:41Speaker 3: of other sports. I don't know why that is. I
- 18:43Speaker 3: don't know if it's just because of the violence of
- 18:45Speaker 3: the game and maybe that brings that out of you.
- 18:47Speaker 3: I've never played football and never, obviously never coached football.
- 18:50Speaker 3: So I don't know the mindset with all that, but yeah,
- 18:52Speaker 3: I've never really had an issue with a football coach
- 18:54Speaker 3: cussing that way.
- 18:57Speaker 2: I'll, I'll have to kind of, They say confession is
- 19:01Speaker 2: good for the soul. It's true. But I also did
- 19:04Speaker 2: not have any problem with that. Sports, it's different. It
- 19:08Speaker 2: is part of the culture. And a lot of the
- 19:11Speaker 2: cussing that you hear Stein do in public, you almost
- 19:16Speaker 2: have to be there to kind of feel the emotion
- 19:20Speaker 2: of the moment. When you see something like that out
- 19:24Speaker 2: in writing, it just comes across as a little bit different.
- 19:28Speaker 2: Believe it or not, we had this conversation at church
- 19:32Speaker 2: the other day. And I am a God-fearing Christian Christ
- 19:37Speaker 2: follower who has gone to my church, Centenary Church, for
- 19:42Speaker 2: probably 30 years. And I brought up this fact in
- 19:47Speaker 2: Sunday school. And I think I made the bad mistake
- 19:52Speaker 2: of telling people what I just told you, that it
- 19:55Speaker 2: really doesn't bother me. And you would have thought I
- 19:59Speaker 2: had insulted the Pope after I said that. It was like,
- 20:04Speaker 2: how can you... They were kind of steering bullets through me.
- 20:10Speaker 2: And I kind of followed it up. I doubled down
- 20:15Speaker 2: by saying, no, if it means a fiery coach who
- 20:20Speaker 2: can inspire his team to win more ballgames, then I'm
- 20:24Speaker 2: all for it. Once again, maybe it was the wrong
- 20:29Speaker 2: thing to say in that particular environment. But I truly
- 20:33Speaker 2: felt that way. I've seen since seeing a lot of
- 20:37Speaker 2: people on social media, mostly Christians, come out against the
- 20:43Speaker 2: fact that, hey, he shouldn't be doing this and we
- 20:46Speaker 2: shouldn't be encouraging this at all. I'm a little bit
- 20:50Speaker 2: conflicted on that. Yeah. It's one of these things I
- 20:53Speaker 2: go back and forth. Yes, he is the leader of
- 20:55Speaker 2: a university. When he's talking about yelling obscenities at the
- 21:00Speaker 2: opposing team and the fans and sneaking in flask into
- 21:03Speaker 2: the ballgame, you probably shouldn't do that. You should draw
- 21:08Speaker 2: the line. But once again, it's context. He said that
- 21:12Speaker 2: when he came on a fan radio show trying to
- 21:16Speaker 2: inspire fans the legions of fans out there just to
- 21:19Speaker 2: be rowdy, to be loud, to be louder than they've
- 21:22Speaker 2: ever been at Kroger Field. I think you got to
- 21:25Speaker 2: cut them a little bit of slack from that standpoint. Plus,
- 21:29Speaker 2: we always talk about how we want our football coaches
- 21:32Speaker 2: to be authentic. You don't want him being somebody that
- 21:36Speaker 2: he's not. This is who we signed up for. This
- 21:40Speaker 2: is Will Stein. And once again, I hate to say it,
- 21:43Speaker 2: if If he goes again and pulls off more upsets
- 21:47Speaker 2: like he did against Texas A & M, then so
- 21:50Speaker 2: be it. Throw out the F-bombs.
- 21:53Speaker 3: I'm with you, and I'm glad you brought up the
- 21:54Speaker 3: authenticity part of that because that's what I'm sitting here
- 21:57Speaker 3: thinking the whole time is you want your head coach
- 22:00Speaker 3: to be themselves. You don't want them to try to
- 22:04Speaker 3: switch who they are just because it's what the fan
- 22:07Speaker 3: base would want. You want them to be exactly who
- 22:09Speaker 3: they are, and that's what you're seeing out of Will Stein.
- 22:11Speaker 3: So I'm glad you brought that part of it up.
- 22:14Speaker 2: The last thing we want is to head into a
- 22:17Speaker 2: Mark Stoops. You know Mark Stoops would have cussed up
- 22:20Speaker 2: a storm, too, if he could. And yet, what did
- 22:23Speaker 2: we see at his media conferences? What did we see
- 22:26Speaker 2: at his press conferences? Every one of his answers was extremely,
- 22:31Speaker 2: extremely guarded. He always felt like, okay, if I say this,
- 22:36Speaker 2: you guys are going to take that and you're going
- 22:38Speaker 2: to twist it around and it's going to be a big,
- 22:40Speaker 2: big headline. So he ended up not really saying anything.
- 22:44Speaker 2: We want coaches who tell us like whatever they're thinking, right?
- 22:49Speaker 2: We want ones who are fiery, who are committed. And
- 22:53Speaker 2: I hope that doesn't change. It's just like Arch Manning now.
- 22:56Speaker 2: Right now, because of the little brouhaha that he got
- 23:01Speaker 2: from the Holly Roe video and the fact that he
- 23:03Speaker 2: laughed due to an answer from a press conference, we're
- 23:06Speaker 2: not going to see him say anything remotely authentic or
- 23:11Speaker 2: controversial from here on in, you're going to get a very,
- 23:13Speaker 2: very sterile Arch Manning.
- 23:16Speaker 3: For sure.
- 23:16Speaker 2: And I don't want that to happen to Will Stein.
- 23:19Speaker 3: Also, I wanted to add on. So I'm kind of
- 23:22Speaker 3: conflicted with it as well, whether it's a good thing
- 23:25Speaker 3: or not, especially if you're in like a church setting
- 23:28Speaker 3: discussing that. But at the end of the day, I
- 23:31Speaker 3: know cussing is technically like a sin, but it's just
- 23:35Speaker 3: a word, right? It's just a word.
- 23:39Speaker 2: It's how you interpret it. It's like the Bible itself.
- 23:43Speaker 2: Is it literal? Is it metaphorical? No. What is the
- 23:46Speaker 2: message that's being conveyed to you? How are you being
- 23:49Speaker 2: able to interpret it? How is the Holy Spirit speaking
- 23:52Speaker 2: to you from that standpoint? If I were Will Stein,
- 23:56Speaker 2: I wouldn't cuss because that's not me. And once again,
- 23:58Speaker 2: that goes back to the authenticity part of it. But
- 24:01Speaker 2: once again, look where we are in sports and what
- 24:05Speaker 2: other region of society is Could you literally cuss somebody out?
- 24:10Speaker 2: Could you berate an official like coaches do from the
- 24:14Speaker 2: sidelines and still not get away with it? In normal society,
- 24:18Speaker 2: you would be arrested for some of those actions. It's true.
- 24:21Speaker 3: Yep.
- 24:22Speaker 2: All right. If you have a couple of texts on
- 24:26Speaker 2: the text line, go ahead and read them out to me,
- 24:29Speaker 2: and we'll see if we can dissect those.
- 24:32Speaker 3: All right. John texted in. He says, hey, Dr. Wong,
- 24:34Speaker 3: Trevor will do just fine. Justin would never leave you
- 24:37Speaker 3: in a bad situation. Also, I wanted to say I
- 24:40Speaker 3: have our football cats winning by 21 big ones. Hey,
- 24:42Speaker 3: if our cats do that, then we should be ranked, right? Well,
- 24:45Speaker 3: got to go talk to you later. All right. Well, thanks, John.
- 24:49Speaker 2: I will reserve judgment for your first comment. until 10
- 24:53Speaker 2: o'clock today. We'll see if we're still standing. In regard
- 24:58Speaker 2: to your second point, I do think that South Alabama
- 25:03Speaker 2: game is going to be pretty defining. How is Kentucky
- 25:07Speaker 2: going to respond after getting a good dose of rainbow
- 25:13Speaker 2: and balloons and everything good? Are they going to kind
- 25:17Speaker 2: of put their guard down? Human nature is to kind
- 25:19Speaker 2: of relax a little bit. But as Will Stein said,
- 25:23Speaker 2: It is not only one game at a time, it
- 25:25Speaker 2: is one play at a time. If he can truly
- 25:28Speaker 2: go ahead and drill that into the players' minds, and
- 25:32Speaker 2: Kentucky comes out and not only wins by two or
- 25:35Speaker 2: three or four touchdowns, but dominates that game like they should,
- 25:40Speaker 2: and how many times has he said, we do what
- 25:42Speaker 2: we should. We beat Youngstown State because we should beat
- 25:45Speaker 2: Youngstown State soundly. They should beat South Alabama pretty soundly. Evidently,
- 25:50Speaker 2: Sunbelt Conference, The Jaguars, they're two and one so far
- 25:55Speaker 2: this year. They beat Southeast Louisiana. They beat Ohio. They
- 25:59Speaker 2: lost to Tulane. This is a team that you should
- 26:02Speaker 2: just go ahead and pound right from the get-go. I'll
- 26:06Speaker 2: be surprised if it's close at halftime. What do you say, Justin?
- 26:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I think Kentucky wins this game comfortably. When I
- 26:12Speaker 3: hear that text from John, I'm thinking 21, that's it?
- 26:16Speaker 3: Because realistically, it should be 30, 35, somewhere in that range.
- 26:21Speaker 3: If I'm If I'm looking for my team to be
- 26:24Speaker 3: ranked next week, I have got to see a 30-point
- 26:27Speaker 3: win at least. 21 points, I don't know if I
- 26:29Speaker 3: bump Kentucky up into that top 25. But you're right,
- 26:32Speaker 3: this is a team that you should beat pretty handily.
- 26:35Speaker 3: I mean, just like you did with Youngstown State, should
- 26:37Speaker 3: be a similar type result here with South Alabama. But
- 26:40Speaker 3: it is a sandwich game, like you mentioned. I mean,
- 26:42Speaker 3: you're smashed between Texas A & M. Hopefully they're not
- 26:45Speaker 3: looking forward to South Carolina next week. And if they're
- 26:48Speaker 3: not and if they're focused on what they need to
- 26:50Speaker 3: do tomorrow, it should be an easy, easy win.
- 26:54Speaker 2: I really know nothing about South Alabama. Just a few
- 26:57Speaker 2: little tidbits that I've read. Evidently a very, very tough
- 27:02Speaker 2: running game. They've got like this three-headed running back combo.
- 27:06Speaker 2: They've got a veteran offensive line. So I think if
- 27:09Speaker 2: Kentucky can focus in on the run and just control
- 27:12Speaker 2: the line of scrimmage from a defensive standpoint, they should
- 27:16Speaker 2: be able to hopefully shut this team out. They're a
- 27:19Speaker 2: little bit uncertain at quarterback. I know their starter got hurt,
- 27:24Speaker 2: Bishop Davenport. He's evidently one of these dual threat guys
- 27:28Speaker 2: that Kentucky traditionally has had trouble dealing with dual threat quarterbacks.
- 27:33Speaker 2: But last game, Jared Hollins, who's more of a pocket passer,
- 27:36Speaker 2: came in. I don't know. Let's see if Kentucky can
- 27:39Speaker 2: get a little bit of a pass rush, something that's
- 27:41Speaker 2: also been lacking for all those years in the Stoops era. Yeah,
- 27:47Speaker 2: let's say they win by 35 points. Where are you
- 27:50Speaker 2: putting them? Are you putting them, what, just barely cracking
- 27:55Speaker 2: the top 25?
- 27:55Speaker 3: Yeah, 23, 24, somewhere in that range.
- 27:59Speaker 2: Were you surprised from a poll standpoint that They weren't ranked.
- 28:05Speaker 2: I wasn't surprised at all that they weren't ranked. The
- 28:07Speaker 2: fact that A & M was so far still ahead
- 28:11Speaker 2: of them after being thrashed was probably, I won't say
- 28:15Speaker 2: surprising because I know how polls work. They're basically based
- 28:21Speaker 2: on preseason rankings, right? Right now, if a team is
- 28:26Speaker 2: ranked very, very high in the preseason and they lose
- 28:28Speaker 2: a couple of games, it takes two weeks to drop
- 28:31Speaker 2: them out of the polls and That's probably not the
- 28:34Speaker 2: way to do it. I don't think you should have
- 28:36Speaker 2: any preseason rankings, but on the other hand, if you
- 28:39Speaker 2: don't do that, then there's not a whole lot for
- 28:42Speaker 2: us talking heads to be talking about.
- 28:44Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly. But yeah, I think if you get them in,
- 28:47Speaker 3: like I said, 23, 24, and that would be great.
- 28:50Speaker 3: I mean, at any point in this season, did you
- 28:52Speaker 3: expect to be in the top 25? Because coming in,
- 28:54Speaker 3: I certainly did.
- 28:56Speaker 2: Yeah, no, not at all. This is a pleasant surprise.
- 29:00Speaker 2: It's almost like gravy now. Will Stein, this whole year
- 29:04Speaker 2: for Kentucky, he gets a pass on that. Unless they
- 29:08Speaker 2: just get blown out every game by 50 points, he's
- 29:11Speaker 2: going to be okay. I think fans are going to
- 29:13Speaker 2: be very, very happy. He's already got his signature upset win.
- 29:18Speaker 2: Anything else from here on in will just add to
- 29:21Speaker 2: this legacy that hopefully he's going to be be extending.
- 29:24Speaker 2: You said you had another text for me.
- 29:26Speaker 3: There is another text. Yep. Another one from Johnny says,
- 29:28Speaker 3: I believe it is the team we saw against a
- 29:30Speaker 3: and M look, if we look at that game, also
- 29:33Speaker 3: look at a little over half of the game against Alabama.
- 29:36Speaker 3: Plus what we've seen in the full game against Youngstown,
- 29:38Speaker 3: then that is your team. that is your true team
- 29:41Speaker 3: a quarter and a half against Alabama was bad but
- 29:43Speaker 3: it is not the common denominator in this factor on
- 29:45Speaker 3: how good our football cats are got to go talk
- 29:48Speaker 3: to you later.
- 29:50Speaker 2: Once again I do hope that is is true uh
- 29:54Speaker 2: I am preaching to myself right now I'm one of
- 29:56Speaker 2: these fans that gets overly excited with a big victory
- 30:01Speaker 2: and overly depressed with a big loss. I think my
- 30:04Speaker 2: problem with sports is the same way that I handle
- 30:07Speaker 2: the stock market. All right. I am reactive rather than proactive.
- 30:12Speaker 2: I base how my team is going to end up
- 30:14Speaker 2: doing the next week based strictly on how they perform
- 30:17Speaker 2: the past week. And just like with an NFL, we
- 30:20Speaker 2: said it's week to week. Nothing is guaranteed. You just
- 30:25Speaker 2: don't Don't know. There are trends and you do have
- 30:29Speaker 2: to watch out for trends. But to say you stunk
- 30:32Speaker 2: it up one week means you're going to stink it
- 30:33Speaker 2: up the next week. I think that's a little bit
- 30:35Speaker 2: premature and vice versa.
- 30:37Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 30:37Speaker 3: And I mean, you obviously you want to look at
- 30:39Speaker 3: recent results that I mean, any any level of sports.
- 30:43Speaker 3: I mean, you can talk about horse racing. You can
- 30:46Speaker 3: talk about any level of sport that you want. Recent
- 30:49Speaker 3: results matter. And what you saw recently, the most recently
- 30:52Speaker 3: out of Kentucky, was a really, really good football program that, again,
- 30:55Speaker 3: shouldn't have any issue with South Alabama. Now you look
- 30:59Speaker 3: up and down the schedule, there's a lot more wins
- 31:01Speaker 3: there or a lot more potential wins than you saw
- 31:03Speaker 3: in the preseason. I mean, the fact that earlier this
- 31:06Speaker 3: week on my show I was talking about potentially getting
- 31:09Speaker 3: into the playoff. Wait, what for Kentucky, a team that
- 31:13Speaker 3: I predicted a few months ago to have four wins
- 31:16Speaker 3: on the season. That is, that is nuts. What one
- 31:19Speaker 3: big win can do to a program. And you're seeing that.
- 31:23Speaker 2: I predicted seven at the beginning of the year. You
- 31:25Speaker 2: can go ahead and check the tape. Uh, but I
- 31:30Speaker 2: didn't expect the a and M I did think they
- 31:32Speaker 2: were beat Alabama. So those two have kind of canceled
- 31:35Speaker 2: each other out. I am I am on track. Do
- 31:40Speaker 2: they burn couches up at IU? Did couches burn after
- 31:44Speaker 2: the national championship?
- 31:46Speaker 3: Not that I know of. I don't remember. Now I
- 31:48Speaker 3: know like the downtown area or by all the bars,
- 31:52Speaker 3: they got pretty, pretty raucous, but I don't remember. I
- 31:55Speaker 3: don't remember couches burning, but I could be wrong on that.
- 31:59Speaker 2: So burning couches may be more specifically a UK thing.
- 32:05Speaker 2: Because they burned couches on State Street after the A
- 32:10Speaker 2: & M win. And I'm not sure that is deserved.
- 32:15Speaker 2: For Kentucky football fans, I know we don't have a
- 32:19Speaker 2: whole lot to celebrate and cheer about. So a big,
- 32:23Speaker 2: big win is cause for massive celebration. But I think
- 32:27Speaker 2: burning couches, that almost needs to be reserved for national
- 32:32Speaker 2: championship type. type deals. I know with basketball, it truly is,
- 32:38Speaker 2: but I just don't want to cheapen the tradition. If
- 32:40Speaker 2: you know what I.
- 32:41Speaker 3: Mean, I don't think it'll happen moving forward. I mean,
- 32:44Speaker 3: that was a signature win the first ever. top 10
- 32:48Speaker 3: win for Will Stein and his first ever attempt at
- 32:50Speaker 3: a top 10 win. That was a, it did feel
- 32:53Speaker 3: like a moment that was deserved of burning couches. I
- 32:56Speaker 3: get what you're saying. Normally it should be for the
- 32:58Speaker 3: top of the top when you win a championship. But
- 33:00Speaker 3: I think with that moment signified for Kentucky football and
- 33:04Speaker 3: just letting everybody know that, Hey, Will Stein, he's the
- 33:07Speaker 3: truth that this is really our guy. I mean, we
- 33:10Speaker 3: thought that before the season, but then you come out
- 33:12Speaker 3: and you win a game like that. So I just
- 33:14Speaker 3: think with what that game signified, Maybe it.
- 33:18Speaker 2: Was more a reflection of pent-up frustrations over all the
- 33:24Speaker 2: years of football futility. Then you get this big win.
- 33:27Speaker 3: Okay.
- 33:28Speaker 5: All right.
- 33:29Speaker 2: But if they beat South Alabama, even by 40 points,
- 33:33Speaker 2: no couches need to be burned. All right? No field rushing.
- 33:37Speaker 2: Nothing like that.
- 33:40Speaker 3: All right.
- 33:40Speaker 2: It's time for our second break. When we come back,
- 33:44Speaker 2: I am going to have a very, very deep discussion
- 33:47Speaker 2: about with Justin Kalen about something I heard him and
- 33:50Speaker 2: Michael Bennett arguing about the other day. All right, we'll
- 33:54Speaker 2: be back after this. Stay tuned. Yeah.
- 34:18Speaker 4: Let's go. All right.
- 34:24Speaker 2: Welcome back. This is Dr. John Huang sitting in the
- 34:27Speaker 2: left seat of Just the Cats this morning. I've got
- 34:29Speaker 2: my co-pilot in the right seat, Justin Kalin. I've got
- 34:33Speaker 2: about 10 minutes before you bail out on me, Justin.
- 34:36Speaker 2: So I understand we have a couple more texts coming in.
- 34:39Speaker 2: If you want to go ahead and read those.
- 34:40Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 34:41Speaker 2: Yep.
- 34:41Speaker 3: First one from Jamie. He says, listen, I'm sick of
- 34:44Speaker 3: hearing about polls. Unless it's the kind you swing from,
- 34:47Speaker 3: I'm done with it. Scoots knows what I'm talking about.
- 34:49Speaker 3: He loves to make it rain. Suck it, Scoots, and
- 34:51Speaker 3: check the back seat.
- 34:53Speaker 2: Ha ha ha. All right.
- 34:57Speaker 3: 48 Handley says, so lack of depth was a reason
- 35:01Speaker 3: suggested for Kentucky's fate in the second half against Alabama.
- 35:04Speaker 3: Why was that lack of depth not apparent against the Aggies?
- 35:08Speaker 3: Maybe Alabama's stronger in the trenches than A & M
- 35:10Speaker 3: on both sides of the ball.
- 35:13Speaker 2: That's a very, very valid point. And I think that's
- 35:17Speaker 2: going to be one of the biggest question marks heading
- 35:21Speaker 2: down this stretch. The SEC, as everybody knows, is brutal.
- 35:25Speaker 2: Injuries are going to hit. It's not when. It's not if.
- 35:29Speaker 2: It's when they're going to hit. And especially late in
- 35:32Speaker 2: the season, it's going to be the walking wounded, I'm afraid.
- 35:36Speaker 2: And Kentucky depth-wise just is not going to be able
- 35:39Speaker 2: to match up. Stein has pretty much acknowledged that he
- 35:42Speaker 2: feels pretty good about the first string, feels pretty good
- 35:45Speaker 2: about half of the second string. Once you get beyond that,
- 35:48Speaker 2: I think it's going to be potentially disastrous if Kentucky
- 35:52Speaker 2: has to go with any of those guys deep in
- 35:54Speaker 2: their depth charts. It's just not going to happen. Injuries
- 35:58Speaker 2: are part of the game, and unfortunately, if there's going
- 36:01Speaker 2: to be a downfall, I think that's going to be
- 36:02Speaker 2: Kentucky's downfall.
- 36:04Speaker 3: I'd agree with that wholeheartedly. All right, that's all we got.
- 36:07Speaker 2: All right, I heard here you and Michael– you all
- 36:14Speaker 2: have great chemistry together. I don't think that you all
- 36:18Speaker 2: really disagree with each other on too many different facets.
- 36:23Speaker 3: Not normally, no.
- 36:24Speaker 2: Yeah, or let me put it this way. You all,
- 36:27Speaker 2: it seems, would disagree on a lot more than you do.
- 36:29Speaker 2: You manage to kind of keep it cordial. You kind of,
- 36:33Speaker 2: I won't say kiss up to him somewhat, but you
- 36:36Speaker 2: know who's driving the train, right? Sure, yeah. So, yeah,
- 36:39Speaker 2: you don't want to make him mad.
- 36:40Speaker 3: Now, that being said, that being said, I do think
- 36:44Speaker 3: we had a pretty bad week in terms of agreements.
- 36:47Speaker 3: Like we, we didn't, I don't feel like we agreed
- 36:49Speaker 3: on anything.
- 36:50Speaker 2: Yeah. There was one that really jumped out at me and,
- 36:53Speaker 2: and not for any specific overall general reason, but just
- 36:58Speaker 2: a couple of things that personally resonated with, with me.
- 37:02Speaker 2: And one of the reasons I wanted to bring it
- 37:04Speaker 2: up was that I was completely on Michael's side.
- 37:07Speaker 3: Oh, here we go.
- 37:08Speaker 2: Until, until Justin's, um, persuasion tactics completely swayed me over.
- 37:17Speaker 2: In fact, I don't change my mind. I don't flip
- 37:20Speaker 2: 180 within a span of an argument very often. My
- 37:25Speaker 2: mind is very analytical. I'll dive into it. I'll do
- 37:28Speaker 2: a little research. I'll kind of weigh the pros and cons.
- 37:32Speaker 2: I know you're curious about what I'm going to say.
- 37:35Speaker 2: This was the back and forth that you had in
- 37:37Speaker 2: regard to Carly Irsay Gordon, the The owner of the Colts.
- 37:43Speaker 3: Thank you. Right.
- 37:44Speaker 2: Michael came out, and he was strictly against... The little
- 37:48Speaker 2: background for those who don't know what I'm talking about is,
- 37:52Speaker 2: during that last game, there were a lot of shots
- 37:55Speaker 2: of her right on the sidelines. And evidently, she does.
- 37:58Speaker 3: That a lot. Every game.
- 37:59Speaker 2: She's down there, fingers in the pot. She's got her
- 38:02Speaker 2: headphones on. She's listening to all the sidelines. Cause got
- 38:06Speaker 2: a little notepad in her hand. She's like kind of
- 38:09Speaker 2: taking notes from that, that standpoint. And she looked like that.
- 38:12Speaker 2: She was really concerned and knew what she was doing.
- 38:15Speaker 2: And Michael's argument was that she should not be down there,
- 38:18Speaker 2: that this was the epitome of micromanagement. And there's nothing
- 38:22Speaker 2: that people dislike more than somebody who sticks their nose
- 38:26Speaker 2: in their business in which they don't need to be,
- 38:29Speaker 2: be doing that. There are GMs. There are coaches that
- 38:32Speaker 2: you hire for that kind of stuff. You as the owner, you,
- 38:35Speaker 2: need to be hands off. That was my take when
- 38:38Speaker 2: the argument first started. But then you jumped in, which
- 38:43Speaker 2: I thought was a very, very salient point, was that
- 38:48Speaker 2: now she's doing it because she wants what's best for
- 38:53Speaker 2: her team, right? That's reasonable. Is that not right? Is
- 38:56Speaker 2: that not correct?
- 38:57Speaker 3: That's reasonable.
- 38:58Speaker 2: Yeah. So I got to thinking, all right, Let me
- 39:02Speaker 2: think back to all my bosses that I've had over
- 39:05Speaker 2: the course of the years. Which were the good ones?
- 39:09Speaker 2: Which were the bad ones? Which were the ones that
- 39:11Speaker 2: were involved? Which were the ones that were hands-off? Which
- 39:14Speaker 2: were the ones that micromanaged? Which were the ones that delegated?
- 39:18Speaker 2: And ultimately, how did the success of the organization correlate
- 39:24Speaker 2: with whether they were hands-on or hands-off? And for me,
- 39:29Speaker 2: the answer was unequivocally, the organizations that excelled were the
- 39:35Speaker 2: ones in which the bosses were in on it. They
- 39:39Speaker 2: were day-to-day. They were micromanaging to extent, for lack of
- 39:45Speaker 2: a better word. So when I thought about that, I said,
- 39:50Speaker 2: you know, Justin has a point there. I would, as
- 39:54Speaker 2: a player, as a coach, I probably wouldn't want anybody
- 39:58Speaker 2: looking over my shoulder. But that accountability is what we
- 40:03Speaker 2: all need in an organization that's successful. I went completely
- 40:09Speaker 2: 180 from this person doesn't need to be down there to, man,
- 40:15Speaker 2: All owners need to be down there. They need to
- 40:18Speaker 2: be doing what she's doing at this point. What say you,
- 40:22Speaker 2: what more do you have to add to that?
- 40:23Speaker 3: It's not like she's my thing with it all is
- 40:26Speaker 3: it's not like she's in the middle of the coaches
- 40:28Speaker 3: and the players. Like she's not in the middle of
- 40:30Speaker 3: the sideline, like on the front lines with, with their
- 40:33Speaker 3: head coach. She's more times than not. If you see
- 40:36Speaker 3: her during, and I've been to probably six, seven Colts
- 40:39Speaker 3: games the last two, three years since she, since she
- 40:41Speaker 3: took over. More times than not, she's by herself. She's
- 40:45Speaker 3: on the end of the sideline just doing her own thing,
- 40:48Speaker 3: paying attention to her little notepad and what's going on
- 40:51Speaker 3: with the game. So as a player and as a coach,
- 40:55Speaker 3: I don't think that would be something that I would
- 40:59Speaker 3: let freak me out. I mean, it's our owner. And
- 41:01Speaker 3: if you keep the mindset of, well, she just wants
- 41:04Speaker 3: what's best for the organization, then I think it's A-OK.
- 41:07Speaker 3: I wouldn't have an issue with it at all.
- 41:09Speaker 2: So how do you think that's different from somebody like
- 41:12Speaker 2: a Jerry Jones? He's often been castigated as somebody who
- 41:15Speaker 2: is probably too much involved, right? He's in there doing
- 41:20Speaker 2: everybody else's job and he enjoys the limelight too. Yeah.
- 41:24Speaker 3: But I don't think that's the case with her. She's
- 41:26Speaker 3: not out seeking to become a public name, at least
- 41:29Speaker 3: in my opinion. I don't think that's the case. Whereas
- 41:32Speaker 3: with Jerry, yeah, he is very, I mean, a lot
- 41:34Speaker 3: of the same ways you described Michael at the beginning
- 41:36Speaker 3: of the show, you could say the exact same thing
- 41:38Speaker 3: for Jerry Jones. So he wants to be known. He
- 41:41Speaker 3: wants to be gregarious and with the people. I mean,
- 41:44Speaker 3: all those same things you said were, would be true
- 41:46Speaker 3: about him as well. But, I mean, there's a certain
- 41:48Speaker 3: way to run a team. I mean, obviously, I can't
- 41:51Speaker 3: knock Jerry Jones. He bought the Cowboys for, what, $ 100 million,
- 41:55Speaker 3: and it's now worth $ 15 billion or whatever it is.
- 41:58Speaker 3: So he's done something right throughout that time. There's no
- 42:01Speaker 3: doubt about that.
- 42:03Speaker 2: Ultimately, they're the owner. They can do what they want.
- 42:06Speaker 2: But you didn't end up convincing Michael in any way, shape,
- 42:09Speaker 2: or form. So you've got to kind of work on it.
- 42:12Speaker 2: on that. My question then to the listeners out there
- 42:15Speaker 2: then is think about the bosses that you've had and
- 42:19Speaker 2: tell me, text me in what is the worst boss
- 42:23Speaker 2: you ever had and why was he bad? Was it
- 42:26Speaker 2: because he was a micromanager? Was it because he didn't care?
- 42:31Speaker 2: Let me know. Worst boss you ever had and why?
- 42:35Speaker 2: Whiskey Thief text line 502-414-1450 or Message me on X
- 42:42Speaker 2: at Kentucky Wongs, K-Y-H-U-A-N-G-S.
- 42:47Speaker 3: Can I bring up a situation now that we're on
- 42:49Speaker 3: this that I read yesterday? So speaking of bad owners,
- 42:54Speaker 3: the Reds general manager, he wanted to make all kinds
- 42:59Speaker 3: of trades. Basically what the Brewers do, he wanted to
- 43:01Speaker 3: sell the top talent, bring in guys that can help
- 43:04Speaker 3: the team win now. Basically guys that you can develop
- 43:08Speaker 3: for years and years and years. That's how the Brewers
- 43:09Speaker 3: have done it. That's what our GM wanted to do.
- 43:12Speaker 3: The owner came out, and this story was dropped by
- 43:14Speaker 3: The Athletic yesterday, and he basically nixed all that. He said, nope,
- 43:19Speaker 3: we're not getting rid of any of the top talent.
- 43:21Speaker 3: We're not doing things the way Milwaukee does. So that,
- 43:24Speaker 3: to me, is an example of bad ownership. I mean,
- 43:27Speaker 3: you've got to trust your GM. Let them do their job.
- 43:30Speaker 3: I think Carly Ursae Gordon does a good job of that.
- 43:33Speaker 3: She's not making, she's not the end-all be-all for every
- 43:36Speaker 3: decision like you get with the Reds organization. And that's
- 43:39Speaker 3: ultimately why the Reds are going to be horrible for
- 43:41Speaker 3: the rest of time.
- 43:43Speaker 2: A lot of it also is, is perception. I think with, uh,
- 43:47Speaker 2: with Ursae Gordon, the fact that they showed her in,
- 43:51Speaker 2: in that position and kind of focused on that brought
- 43:54Speaker 2: a heck of a lot more attention to that than
- 43:56Speaker 2: maybe that it, it deserved. Hmm. As far as Reds ownership,
- 44:01Speaker 2: I think one of the problems is they're just way
- 44:03Speaker 2: too cheap on everything.
- 44:05Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 44:06Speaker 2: And to follow up on that, there was a story
- 44:08Speaker 2: that came out that they charge, they evidently, they require
- 44:14Speaker 2: the players to pay for like Cokes out of the
- 44:17Speaker 2: Coke machine. Isn't that one of the craziest things you
- 44:20Speaker 2: ever heard about?
- 44:22Speaker 3: By the way, precursor to what you're getting into with Trevor,
- 44:25Speaker 3: you ready?
- 44:26Speaker 2: Uh-oh.
- 44:27Speaker 3: All right.
- 44:27Speaker 2: I'm taking notes.
- 44:28Speaker 3: He texts me and says if she wanted what was
- 44:31Speaker 3: best for the team, she would sell it because her family,
- 44:34Speaker 3: the Urses, are the biggest bunch of losers ever to
- 44:36Speaker 3: own a franchise. There you go.
- 44:40Speaker 2: He must not. Either Trevor is just a diehard Colts
- 44:46Speaker 2: fan or he's just a Indianapolis Colts hater. I would
- 44:51Speaker 2: say it's probably the former.
- 44:52Speaker 3: It'd be the latter, actually. He's a big Eagles fan.
- 44:56Speaker 2: I see.
- 44:57Speaker 3: Okay.
- 44:57Speaker 2: All right. See, these are the things that I need
- 44:59Speaker 2: to know about. I tried to tell Michael, hey, can
- 45:03Speaker 2: you give me Trevor's phone number so I can at
- 45:06Speaker 2: least call the guy and kind of see what he's
- 45:09Speaker 2: all about? You know me, I like to do a
- 45:10Speaker 2: little bit of preparation beforehand. Now I'm just being caught blind.
- 45:15Speaker 2: You talk about going off of my comfort zone. Now
- 45:18Speaker 2: I'm really shaking in my boots. I got four minutes
- 45:20Speaker 2: until your parachute opens right now. Yeah. Yeah. Help me out.
- 45:25Speaker 2: Tell me something more about Trevor, okay? Give me a
- 45:28Speaker 2: few things I can maybe prepare for in these four minutes.
- 45:32Speaker 3: He's also an Indiana Pacers fan. Big Louisville guy, so
- 45:36Speaker 3: he's probably going to rib you a lot. Unlike me,
- 45:40Speaker 3: I've been working in Kentucky radio long enough where I
- 45:42Speaker 3: kind of have a soft spot for Kentucky, whereas his
- 45:45Speaker 3: heart is still kind of hardened when it comes to
- 45:47Speaker 3: the Cats. So you'll have to deal with that. Crazy voice.
- 45:52Speaker 3: He's got a.
- 45:54Speaker 3: So get ready for that.
- 45:57Speaker 2: That's a good radio voice then, right?
- 45:59Speaker 3: Yeah, some would say. Yeah, absolutely. But, I mean, no,
- 46:02Speaker 3: everything else you're just going to have to figure out.
- 46:04Speaker 3: He's a unique individual.
- 46:06Speaker 2: I understand he's also a big culture. I saw on
- 46:11Speaker 2: his little Twitter handle there that he's into pop culture
- 46:14Speaker 2: and things like that, trivia.
- 46:15Speaker 3: Movies, music.
- 46:17Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. All right. Speaking of movies, did you see
- 46:20Speaker 2: the preview for the new Madden movie that's coming out?
- 46:23Speaker 3: I haven't seen it yet. No, but I'm excited about that.
- 46:25Speaker 2: It's Nicolas Cage. Yeah. is John Madden.
- 46:28Speaker 3: He put on, I think 130 pounds for that role.
- 46:32Speaker 2: Oh, I, I didn't know whether he stuffed the pillow
- 46:34Speaker 2: into a shirt or whatever. The hair, the hair makes
- 46:39Speaker 2: it look funny. I don't know if this was satire
- 46:43Speaker 2: or it's meant to be a very, very historical portrayal,
- 46:47Speaker 2: but it can go both ways. I don't know if
- 46:49Speaker 2: it's going to be an outright comedy or it's going
- 46:52Speaker 2: to be one of these historical films. It's going to,
- 46:54Speaker 2: be iconic from years on in. I think Christian Bale
- 46:59Speaker 2: is playing the owner on that. So we'll kind of
- 47:03Speaker 2: see what the interaction is between those two.
- 47:07Speaker 3: I mean, if it's a movie about Madden, it's going
- 47:10Speaker 3: to have its silly moments. You know that.
- 47:12Speaker 2: Well, just because of who he was. And what I
- 47:16Speaker 2: thought was interesting was not only his coaching career, but
- 47:19Speaker 2: according to the trailer, it goes into how he helped
- 47:23Speaker 2: develop the Madden game from that standpoint.
- 47:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm excited about it, for sure.
- 47:29Speaker 2: All right, one final thing before I let you go.
- 47:32Speaker 2: You're in the Louisville area. Have you had sissy cakes before?
- 47:37Speaker 3: I tried it when Michael bought one for Corey Price
- 47:40Speaker 3: for his birthday, so I tried it for the first time.
- 47:42Speaker 3: Very tasty.
- 47:44Speaker 2: That's honest opinion, right? Yeah. I've seen people rant and
- 47:47Speaker 2: rave about it. I'm really wanting to try it. So
- 47:51Speaker 2: if anyone wants to go ahead and send me a
- 47:53Speaker 2: sissy gag, then I'll be more than glad to write
- 47:57Speaker 2: up a formal review for that.
- 47:59Speaker 3: There you go. There you have it. I think I
- 48:01Speaker 3: will be back with you on the other side, though,
- 48:03Speaker 3: for what it's worth. Okay.
- 48:04Speaker 2: All right. All right. Great. Fantastic.
- 48:09Speaker 5: Like the ceiling can't hold us Can we go back?
- 48:13Speaker 5: This is the moment Tonight is the night We'll fight
- 48:16Speaker 5: till it's over So we put our hands up Like
- 48:19Speaker 5: the ceiling can't hold.
- 48:21Speaker 1: Us Welcome to Just the Cats with Michael Bennett.
- 48:34Speaker 2: Once again, this is not Michael Bennett. Dr. John Huang
- 48:36Speaker 2: here for the second hour of Just the Cats. I've
- 48:39Speaker 2: got Justin Kalin here for me, with me for just
- 48:43Speaker 2: a couple more minutes here before he bails out and
- 48:45Speaker 2: then the awkwardness will begin. We'll see what happens then.
- 48:50Speaker 2: But Justin, we have a couple of questions still out
- 48:55Speaker 2: there on the text line. Which Kentucky team is going
- 48:59Speaker 2: to be showing up? The one that played the second
- 49:02Speaker 2: half against Alabama or the one that demolished Texas A
- 49:06Speaker 2: & M? And then also, who is the worst boss
- 49:10Speaker 2: that you ever had and why was that the case?
- 49:14Speaker 2: You haven't really answered the second question yet. I didn't
- 49:17Speaker 2: know if you... were just purposely going to be tiptoeing
- 49:22Speaker 2: around it because of the people that you're working for
- 49:24Speaker 2: right now, but if that's the case, I certainly understand.
- 49:27Speaker 3: No, honestly, for me, I've never really had a bad boss. Now,
- 49:31Speaker 3: I did work at a restaurant down when I was
- 49:33Speaker 3: living in Jacksonville, and our GM was At the time,
- 49:38Speaker 3: he could be an ass from time to time, but
- 49:41Speaker 3: more times than not, that was because he was just
- 49:43Speaker 3: hammer drum. I mean, he was hammered 24-7.
- 49:46Speaker 2: That could make a difference. Yeah, that could make a difference.
- 49:48Speaker 3: I never really held that against him. But other than him,
- 49:51Speaker 3: I really haven't had any bad bosses. I've been very
- 49:54Speaker 3: fortunate in that regard.
- 49:55Speaker 2: My worst one was I was in the military for
- 49:58Speaker 2: 10 years, and we had several bosses come and go.
- 50:01Speaker 2: I think my worst one was a lieutenant colonel who
- 50:03Speaker 2: was always intent on taking the credit for everything that
- 50:07Speaker 2: went right and assigning blame for everything that went wrong.
- 50:11Speaker 2: I know people have had bosses like that. And in
- 50:14Speaker 2: organizations that want to be successful, you know that does
- 50:17Speaker 2: not work. Even in sports teams, it's amazing how much
- 50:20Speaker 2: you can accomplish when you don't care who gets the
- 50:23Speaker 2: credit on that. One for all.
- 50:25Speaker 3: It's true. And we do have a text regarding this
- 50:28Speaker 3: on the text line. This comes from Patrick Murphy. He says,
- 50:46Speaker 3: Then in Rochester, my boss of a small-town newspaper wanted
- 50:49Speaker 3: me to live in the town, except living 30 minutes away,
- 50:52Speaker 3: which I did. I was the only sports reporter for
- 50:54Speaker 3: the newspaper. I lived far away because I wanted to
- 50:57Speaker 3: be near my hobbies and a bigger town. That brought
- 50:59Speaker 3: me down to southern Indiana, and he lets us know
- 51:02Speaker 3: the job in Mississippi was August 2019 to October 2020.
- 51:05Speaker 2: He wants to be pretty specific about that so we
- 51:09Speaker 2: know exactly who he's talking about. I think the idea
- 51:13Speaker 2: of calling people out in front of other people is
- 51:16Speaker 2: also very, very significant. In any type of seminar or
- 51:20Speaker 2: relationship building exercises, you always realize that you're working with
- 51:25Speaker 2: other human beings. People have natural emotions and people do
- 51:29Speaker 2: not want to be embarrassed in front of other people.
- 51:32Speaker 2: Any time that I was always dealing with employees, and
- 51:36Speaker 2: in my case, it was a little bit different in
- 51:37Speaker 2: an orthodontic office. you were always dealing with, don't want
- 51:41Speaker 2: to sound sexist, but women, and you had to deal
- 51:44Speaker 2: with women in a little bit different way that you
- 51:46Speaker 2: had to deal with men. Took me a little while
- 51:48Speaker 2: to understand that, but once I got the hang of it,
- 51:51Speaker 2: I don't think they hated me from then on in.
- 51:55Speaker 3: Another text says, another good question, the worst team owners
- 51:58Speaker 3: in sports. Worst boss was someone that made policy changes
- 52:01Speaker 3: without understanding the ramifications. Some bosses just make changes to
- 52:05Speaker 3: leave their mark.
- 52:07Speaker 2: Well, I think that's... That's a great point. I'm trying
- 52:11Speaker 2: to see how that's going to relate to the difference
- 52:14Speaker 2: between a Mitch Barnhart and a Jay Bat, two very,
- 52:18Speaker 2: very different modus operandi, two evidently very different personalities. And
- 52:23Speaker 2: they're dealing in different cultures and different time areas of sports.
- 52:29Speaker 2: Radical changes going on. It'll be interesting to see how
- 52:32Speaker 2: that shakes out.
- 52:33Speaker 3: Texter also says, I hear sissy cakes and all I
- 52:35Speaker 3: can think of is Terry Funk asking, are you a sissy?
- 52:40Speaker 3: All right. That laugh you heard in the background, Dr. John,
- 52:43Speaker 3: that is Trevor. I'm going to let him take the seat.
- 52:45Speaker 3: I will talk to you on Monday. Sound good?
- 52:47Speaker 2: All right. That sounds fantastic. Thanks for everything. Appreciate all
- 52:50Speaker 2: you do.
- 52:50Speaker 3: Of course.
- 52:56Speaker 2: All right. I am preparing myself to interact with the legendary, legendary, legendary, Trevor,
- 53:08Speaker 2: I've heard a lot about this Trevor guy and able
- 53:12Speaker 2: to actually see him on my phone screen and to
- 53:16Speaker 2: be able to hear his voice is going to be
- 53:18Speaker 2: something that I know I am always going to remember forever. Trevor,
- 53:22Speaker 2: how the heck are you? Can you hear me now?
- 53:27Speaker 3: I can hear you, my bad. Sorry, buddy.
- 53:31Speaker 2: Okay, no, no, no problem. Listen, I was I hear
- 53:35Speaker 2: you occasionally on the Kentucky roll call. And what I
- 53:41Speaker 2: want to say to you right off the bat is
- 53:44Speaker 2: I think Steven Peake speaks way too much. I want
- 53:48Speaker 2: to hear a lot more of what Trevor has to
- 53:52Speaker 2: say during all this, because I know there's a lot
- 53:55Speaker 2: of wisdom and I'm not just trying to butter you up. Well,
- 53:57Speaker 2: maybe a little bit because I want our initial interaction
- 54:01Speaker 2: to go kind of smoothly, but What say you about
- 54:05Speaker 2: Steven Peake and all of his ideas?
- 54:08Speaker 3: First of all, nice to meet you. Doctor, did I
- 54:11Speaker 3: hear it correctly?
- 54:13Speaker 2: In my former life, I was an orthodontist. I created
- 54:16Speaker 2: beautiful smiles.
- 54:18Speaker 3: Well, so I'm a nightmare to you.
- 54:20Speaker 2: Why is that?
- 54:24Speaker 3: I'm the one that you would look at and go,
- 54:26Speaker 3: my kids are going to Stanford day, baby. Yeah, can't
- 54:29Speaker 3: wait to build this SOB.
- 54:32Speaker 2: You're like money in the bank, right?
- 54:34Speaker 3: I could have put three generations of Hong through college.
- 54:38Speaker 3: Did I pronounce that right, by the way? I apologize.
- 54:40Speaker 2: It's Wong. It's Dr. Wong.
- 54:41Speaker 3: Sorry, I apologize.
- 54:42Speaker 2: Yeah, but you can call me anything you want.
- 54:46Speaker 3: Hong is what they called you in college, right?
- 54:48Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. That and a lot worse. I made the
- 54:53Speaker 2: pivot about.
- 54:56Speaker 2: Oh, I can't believe it's been 12 years. You know,
- 54:58Speaker 2: I straightened teeth, created beautiful smiles for about 30 years,
- 55:02Speaker 2: and then decided life is too short, that I wanted
- 55:07Speaker 2: to always kind of pursue my passions. And I've always
- 55:10Speaker 2: loved sports. I've always loved writing. So I said, okay,
- 55:14Speaker 2: why don't I just go ahead and write about sports,
- 55:17Speaker 2: specifically University of Kentucky sports. I became a sports writer.
- 55:22Speaker 2: I love it. It's a heck of a lot more fun. But, uh,
- 55:26Speaker 2: it doesn't pay quite nearly as much as what I
- 55:29Speaker 2: previously did.
- 55:30Speaker 3: Well, did all the important things that did let you
- 55:32Speaker 3: keep some of that morphine and laughing gas to take
- 55:34Speaker 3: home with you? Cause you know, that's the case. And
- 55:36Speaker 3: you know, well, one, that would help you being a
- 55:38Speaker 3: UK fan, but.
- 55:39Speaker 2: Two, Oh, okay. Shots fired right off the bat. Right.
- 55:43Speaker 3: But two, you know, we, I do work in trade
- 55:45Speaker 3: in case you're wondering. That's all I'm just saying just
- 55:47Speaker 3: out there.
- 55:48Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, I think after all those years of Kentucky
- 55:51Speaker 2: football futility, I could use a little bit of nitrous
- 55:55Speaker 2: oxide every once in a while.
- 55:57Speaker 3: Now, you are a U.K. guy.
- 56:01Speaker 2: Have been for 60 years. Diehard U.K. 60 years. Yeah.
- 56:07Speaker 2: My family moved to Lexington when I was eight years old.
- 56:10Speaker 2: And every eight-year-old boy in 1967 wanted to be Dan Essel,
- 56:13Speaker 2: myself included. Only two problems. I was too short and
- 56:20Speaker 2: I wasn't any good.
- 56:21Speaker 3: Well, neither was most of Rupp's runs. That didn't stop
- 56:25Speaker 3: them either.
- 56:27Speaker 2: They were just before my time. Actually, Phil Argento ahead
- 56:31Speaker 2: of time was probably the first UK player I followed.
- 56:35Speaker 2: And then, of course, Dan came on, Mike Pratt, Mike Casey,
- 56:38Speaker 2: those years. Fantastic. I was hooked and became a big,
- 56:43Speaker 2: big University of Kentucky sports fan from then on in.
- 56:46Speaker 3: Well, not the football, though. I mean, I don't hear
- 56:49Speaker 3: any love for Bill Randall in there from 1980.
- 56:51Speaker 2: Well, there was a little bit. You know, I came,
- 56:54Speaker 2: I remember a couple of upsets. John Ray, they had big,
- 56:57Speaker 2: big hopes for him. He came from Notre Dame. And
- 57:00Speaker 2: I remember, I think it was the second or third game,
- 57:03Speaker 2: they upset Ole Miss, who was ranked at the time.
- 57:06Speaker 2: Ole Miss had a great quarterback. You may have heard
- 57:08Speaker 2: of him, Archie Manning.
- 57:09Speaker 3: At the time that's the guy who plays for texas right.
- 57:13Speaker 2: Well yeah that's his grand nephew or whoever there's so
- 57:16Speaker 2: many of those guys out there right now who knows
- 57:19Speaker 2: what's what's going on with that family but no kentucky
- 57:22Speaker 2: football has had a few ups and downs more downs
- 57:25Speaker 2: and ups over the course of the year but this
- 57:28Speaker 2: year hope springs eternal.
- 57:30Speaker 3: This is going to be the year Sounds like someone
- 57:32Speaker 3: did get to take home some nitroxide. And someone might
- 57:36Speaker 3: want to check that valve. It might be leaking there. No,
- 57:40Speaker 3: I guess, I mean, right now, so as someone who,
- 57:44Speaker 3: because I'm used to, you know, Michael obviously is older.
- 57:47Speaker 3: It's nice the way I can say he's decrepit, is older.
- 57:51Speaker 3: And I'm usually the oldest one here until I get
- 57:54Speaker 3: to hang out with Michael and you now as well.
- 57:57Speaker 3: How does it feel like– I mean, I heard you
- 58:00Speaker 3: talking about Will Stein. I heard you talking about burning couches.
- 58:03Speaker 3: I mean, where does this rank? You as somebody who–
- 58:08Speaker 3: as a little fan, I grew up weirdly going to
- 58:11Speaker 3: a lot of U.K. games in the late 80s, early 90s.
- 58:13Speaker 3: My uncle was a season ticket holder. This might come
- 58:15Speaker 3: as a shock to anybody but you. Tickets were not
- 58:18Speaker 3: hard to come by to the point where he would
- 58:21Speaker 3: use two tickets, one to start the game, halftime, go
- 58:24Speaker 3: out to the car– get loaded more, and then use
- 58:27Speaker 3: the other ticket to get in the second half. Because
- 58:30Speaker 3: you couldn't give them away, obviously. Yeah, literally. Two words,
- 58:33Speaker 3: Bill Curry, okay? So, yeah, that didn't remind you.
- 58:37Speaker 2: Probably Bill Curry, one of the biggest disappointments in terms
- 58:40Speaker 2: of coaching for the pedigree that supposedly he had to
- 58:45Speaker 2: end up failing as much as he did.
- 58:48Speaker 3: Well, the guy went 10 games in Auburn, and they
- 58:50Speaker 3: burned crosses in his yard in Alabama because his one
- 58:54Speaker 3: loss was against Auburn. I think he lost to them
- 58:57Speaker 3: four years in a row. All four years he was
- 58:58Speaker 3: there at Alabama, he lost to Auburn every four. He
- 59:00Speaker 3: had two 10-win seasons. They still ran him out of town.
- 59:04Speaker 2: You can't lose Auburn if you're an Alabama coach.
- 59:07Speaker 3: At least not that many times. And for the record,
- 59:11Speaker 3: anybody who ever said to a Bill Curry game, you're
- 59:13Speaker 3: probably wondering to yourself, wow, your uncle's got some real strength.
- 59:16Speaker 3: I'd have gone after every quarter and got loaded and
- 59:19Speaker 3: come back in because that's what that option offense did
- 59:22Speaker 3: to you. So I guess the long story short, if
- 59:25Speaker 3: possible at this point, is that like– You had the
- 59:31Speaker 3: Tim Couch, kind of the early Howe Mummy excitement, the
- 59:33Speaker 3: air raid. Seven wins, not a lot, but still at
- 59:36Speaker 3: that point, seven wins to UK football was like going
- 59:39Speaker 3: undefeated pretty much at that point in the program. And
- 59:43Speaker 3: now we've evolved a little as well in a lot
- 59:45Speaker 3: of other programs. God help me, Indiana, too. Where do
- 59:50Speaker 3: you feel, Will Stein? You've seen the lows. You've seen
- 59:54Speaker 3: the bottom of the lows. You've been so low with
- 59:57Speaker 3: UK that you have Buffalo Bob dropping down lotions and
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: telling you to put it on the skin. Otherwise, it
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: gets the hose again. That's how low it's been. You've
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: been with UK. How do you feel about Will Stein?
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: Are you excited? Do you not need that nitrous oxide
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: anymore to get a smile on your face? Where do
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: we do?
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: Trevor, as we get a little bit older, we like
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: to think that we get a little bit wiser. The
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: young John Wong... would have been really pumped up saying,
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: this is the year. We're going to be like IU
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: right now. This is a new era. NIL, you can
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: buy players. It's just going to be a matter of time.
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: Hopefully within a year or two, Kentucky will be in
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: the playoffs and competing for a national championship. The older,
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: more mature, hey, I've seen it all, John Wong says,
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: the more things change, the more things remain the same.
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: This is Kentucky football. You're playing big boy football against
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: all these other members of the SEC. It's not like
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: they're not getting any better. It's not like they're not
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: going to the ends of the earth to buy players.
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: It's not like they're not building up their depth charts. No,
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: you have to continuously compete against these guys. So I
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: am saying, yes, I am cautiously optimistic, but I'm still
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: pumping the brakes. I had a great friend who has
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: since passed way too early. His name was Lonnie Demery.
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: I don't know if you knew him. He had the moniker,
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: the mayor of UK football. He wrote a lot for
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: things like the Catspaws. He somehow took pity on me
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: when I became a new media member, took me under
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: his wing and essentially showed me the ropes. And I
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: remember I would get so excited when Kentucky would go
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: through these periods in which they look like they had
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: turned the corner. I would get so depressed when they
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: would drop back down to 1-10, 2-8-1, whatever. And he
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: would always say, John, you never are as good as
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: you look. You're never as bad as you look. You
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: just have to evaluate each game, each season as it goes.
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: Never get your hopes too high. Just watch the game,
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: evaluate based on numbers, based on statistics, based on what
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: your eyes see. So given all of that, The answer
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: to your question, Trevor, is that cautiously optimistic. I like Stein.
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: I like the way that he's approached things, but we're
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: going to have to wait and see. As the year
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: goes on, injuries are going to kick in. He's got
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: a free pass this year regardless. People are going to
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: be fine unless he loses by 50 points, unless he
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: gets blown out by Louisville. Then, of course, the Natives
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: are going to get a little bit restless, but No,
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: this year is a free year. I like what I'm
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: seeing so far.
- 1:02:45Speaker 3: Was it a free year before the A & M win,
- 1:02:48Speaker 3: or just now is it a free year after.
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: The A & M? I think it was a free
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: year before.
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: It was a free year before. Define free like, I mean,
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: it had been, because the expectations were not modest. I mean,
- 1:02:59Speaker 3: I guess it depends on the site or the rider
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: you look at. But I saw anywhere between four and
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: eight wins predicted by certain people. And, I mean, listen,
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: with this schedule, you don't have to be a genius
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: to realize that. that even four wins could be a
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: stretch because obviously he's only South Alabama and Youngstown seem
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: like gimme's. You have the third one in A &
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: M now, but I mean, I don't, I mean, if
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: he doesn't, if he only wins three games this year,
- 1:03:24Speaker 3: is that pass still free?
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: Yes. My answer, the short answer is, is, is yes. My,
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: my long answer is I'd be lying. If I said
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: after watching the second half at Alabama, that, Some of
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: those usual and customary concerns didn't start rising up in
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: my mind. I mean, think about the things that went
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: terribly wrong during that second half. A quarterback, I don't
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: think Kenny Minchey made one single good throw during maybe
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: the entire Alabama game. The O-line, which Kentucky evidently paid
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: a bunch of money for, looked rather pedestrian. None of
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: the receivers could get open at all, right? You were thinking,
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: does Kentucky even have a receiver room at all? Nick Anderson, hey,
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: this guy was supposed to be good. I don't think
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: he caught a single ball. And then the special teams, right?
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: Kentucky had trouble getting off 30-yard punts during the Alabama game.
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: Then Look what happened. Within the span of a week,
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: those four areas, which were super, super concerns in my mind,
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: all of a sudden had wonderful games. They looked like strengths.
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: The O-lines. They were fantastic. Minchie, okay, maybe he is
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: the quarterback that we were looking for. Receivers, whoa, look,
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: these guys can actually get open. You see green grass
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: in between there. Kicking game, kicker hits a 52-yard field goal. Yeah, okay,
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: he doinked it, but still, 52 is 52. Stein had
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: confidence in him, and the way that he was able
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: to turn around Stein, he's old school thinking, but with
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: a new school mentality. He still believes in practice. You
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: play like you're going to practice. He still believes in
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: one play at a time. Those two things, if he
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: truly believes in them and if he can impart them
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: into his team's mentality, that to me is excitement. It
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: doesn't matter how many games you win this year. You're
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: setting things up for a really, really good run later
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: on down the line.
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I hear that excitement in your voice. You want
- 1:05:30Speaker 3: to go through like I am a deal man. You
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: want to be like, hey, listen, I know to pull
- 1:05:34Speaker 3: back the brakes a little bit. But deep down inside,
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: that's the beauty of sports and being a fan. You
- 1:05:40Speaker 3: want to be swept away in it. I don't know
- 1:05:44Speaker 3: how much you love Rudy as much as I do,
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: but Pete said it best, you know, Dreams are what
- 1:05:51Speaker 3: make life tolerable, you know. And then he lights his,
- 1:05:54Speaker 3: you know, cupcake on fire before he gets, you know,
- 1:05:57Speaker 3: on fire. So, yeah, that's kind of what's– you have
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: to have dreams. You got to be over the top.
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: And if not, then what's the point of watching sports, right?
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: I mean– and by the way, no, I'm not a
- 1:06:08Speaker 3: Colts fan. I just really think the RSAs are a
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: bunch of blunders. Going all the way from the one
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: who took him from Baltimore to Jim who fell ass
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: backwards into Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck and still screwed
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: that up. to whatever the daughter or sister, I don't
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: know who runs them now. I don't even know. All
- 1:06:24Speaker 3: I know is she's got the name Irsay, and that
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: needs to be changed.
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: That's the thing, though. The longer that you're a sports fan,
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: the more of these indelible memories are hard to shake.
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: It's hard reversing culture that you've built up inside yourself
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: for the past half a century, right? All these memories,
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: all these negatives tend to stick, and we're almost like
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: coaches in a way. The bad things kind of are
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: the things that stick out in us. Okay, look, you've
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: already distracted me now with all this wonderful conversation. I
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: am late for our first break. I understand we need
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: to go ahead. Yeah, we need to take one. They
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: tell me 20, 40, and then the hard break at
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: the top of the hour.
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: They say breaks are to get us paid, but I've
- 1:07:11Speaker 3: never seen a check, so I didn't know.
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: That makes two of us right now. So yeah, I
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: long for those days of orthodontics, right? All right. Well,
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: we'll be right back. Just the cats here.
- 1:07:26Speaker 4: One of the best in Clarksville. Welcome back. We've got
- 1:08:01Speaker 4: a couple more hours of just the facts. I'm Dr.
- 1:08:07Speaker 3: Tom Fong, subbing this morning.
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: I'm here with.
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: Trevor Kelsey, no relation to Pat here in my co-pilot seat. Trevor,
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: you and I were talking.
- 1:08:27Speaker 3: If he is, he won't admit it. I've tried. I
- 1:08:30Speaker 3: keep trying to send me at least a check. Like,
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: I'm your kid, Pat, I swear. He won't bite, huh?
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: Won't bite. Yeah, I don't see too much of a resemblance.
- 1:08:41Speaker 3: No, but if you do want to go for resemblance,
- 1:08:43Speaker 3: until he shows me a paternity suit negative, I am
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: not going to deny that Andy Reid is not my dad.
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: Check the DNA. You never know, right?
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: My mom was a hippie, so she can't confirm some
- 1:08:54Speaker 3: multiple gaps in her life where she was during those days.
- 1:08:58Speaker 3: And because of that and Andy Reid. you know, Andy
- 1:09:00Speaker 3: Reid's a Mormon. He's got like 30 kids anyway. Who
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: knows how many times he's got around there that aren't
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: just his. So, yeah, I think I'm Andy Reid's son.
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: Always looking for that angle. We were talking out there
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: about Super Bowls. And you mentioned, with you being an
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: Eagles fan, you had the pleasure and honor of attending
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: their Super Bowl win. I, as a Bengals fan, believe
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: it or not, was able to go to the Super
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: Bowl three or four years ago out in L.A. when
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: they played the Rams. And, get this, as a media member,
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: I've been covering them through those Marvin Lewis years for
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: all that time. And all of a sudden, Joe Burrow
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: comes on board. Jamar Chase, they end up taking that
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: franchise all the way to Super Bowl. And here I am.
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: I think so.
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: I think so.
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: But would you say.
- 1:09:48Speaker 3: That was a BS call on Cooper Cup. I guess
- 1:09:53Speaker 3: Logan Wilson got the penalty call, but Cooper Cup was
- 1:09:56Speaker 3: the reception.
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I was... I was in the media section. Actually,
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: it was the overflow media section. It still counts, right?
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: It still counts. I was in the building because wouldn't
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: you say that that's probably the pinnacle of almost every
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: media member? You got to be able to attend the
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: Super Bowl and be able to cover that officially.
- 1:10:19Speaker 3: Unlike you, I didn't get media credentials. I bought my ticket,
- 1:10:23Speaker 3: which ironically did cost more than the car I drove
- 1:10:25Speaker 3: there in. and I said, I think I was like
- 1:10:29Speaker 3: maybe four rows up from the wall in Minneapolis. By
- 1:10:33Speaker 3: the time I got up to my seat as a
- 1:10:35Speaker 3: big guy, I was pretty much like, I'm not leaving
- 1:10:37Speaker 3: this seat ever.
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: That's okay, though, in the house.
- 1:10:40Speaker 3: I was one of the last, I think these, and
- 1:10:42Speaker 3: after the victory, I was, I mean, we talked about
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: this yesterday on Rutherford's show, we were kind of laughing,
- 1:10:48Speaker 3: like the last time sports made you actually cry, and
- 1:10:51Speaker 3: we were discussing it in a bad way, like losses,
- 1:10:54Speaker 3: but in a good way, too, like I can't, I mean,
- 1:10:58Speaker 3: I don't know if there's like new prisoners who've hugged
- 1:11:00Speaker 3: as many strange men as I did that night. I
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: was just, I mean, just, it would have been, it
- 1:11:05Speaker 3: would have been a lot less awkward if I had
- 1:11:06Speaker 3: known some names, but I mean, that's how it was.
- 1:11:09Speaker 3: I mean, I, I, I actually ended up, I wouldn't
- 1:11:12Speaker 3: say I might've made a friend, but, uh, the guy
- 1:11:14Speaker 3: sitting next to me who I had never met and,
- 1:11:18Speaker 3: I haven't talked to him in a while now, but
- 1:11:19Speaker 3: we actually kept in touch. He was from Philly, just
- 1:11:22Speaker 3: kind of on a whim, went to the game, bought
- 1:11:23Speaker 3: a ticket late. Ended up actually sending me a local
- 1:11:26Speaker 3: newspaper the next day from their win. Kept in touch
- 1:11:30Speaker 3: a little bit with him, but that's been almost 10
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: years now, so I haven't talked to Rob in a while.
- 1:11:34Speaker 3: But that's okay. I'm sure he's doing well still.
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: It is amazing how fandom works, how so many people
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: end up just being random fans of teams that geographically
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: have nothing to do with, with where they live.
- 1:11:49Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah. I'm that way. I'm a blue Jay fan
- 1:11:52Speaker 3: and Eagles fan. And well, Pacers just because of Reggie Miller.
- 1:11:55Speaker 3: But before that, before I, I went to a Pacer
- 1:11:58Speaker 3: game in the early nineties and was, was hooked because
- 1:12:01Speaker 3: of the, the crowd that market square brought to the
- 1:12:04Speaker 3: table with me. Uh, I was a Sonics fan. I
- 1:12:07Speaker 3: was a big camp, Gary Payton and guys like that. But, yeah,
- 1:12:11Speaker 3: to prove your point, I was kind of all over
- 1:12:13Speaker 3: the map. Now, you are a Bengals fan geographically, I assume. But, like,
- 1:12:19Speaker 3: are you a baseball? Is there a basketball team other
- 1:12:23Speaker 3: than UK, obviously?
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: No, it's basically Reds and Bengals in terms of sports.
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: I'm following the Rams because everybody loves a winner, and
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: I thought they would be the best thing since sliced bread. Actually,
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: I loved them during the greatest show on turf, even
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: when they were at St. Louis, even beforehand when they
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: came out from Anaheim. It's weird.
- 1:12:48Speaker 3: They were in St. Louis for 20 years. And the
- 1:12:49Speaker 3: entire time, I would always still goof up and call
- 1:12:51Speaker 3: them the L.A. Rams.
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I did, too.
- 1:12:54Speaker 3: And now they're back in L.A. And it's like, okay.
- 1:12:57Speaker 3: I'm amazed I haven't. It's also weird that it was
- 1:13:00Speaker 3: 20 years they were there. You know, we kept being like, oh,
- 1:13:03Speaker 3: it's the L.A. Rams to me. But that was, I mean,
- 1:13:05Speaker 3: you're talking about a generation of people who had no
- 1:13:07Speaker 3: idea they were L.A.
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: The thing is, nobody even cares about them right now.
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: But I think if they can get on a little
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: bit of a winning streak, and it was so disappointing
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: when they lost to San Francisco over in Australia, they
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: just basically did not show up. But, yes, I remember
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: the Rams of the fearsome foursome when they had the
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: Jack Youngbloods, the Merlin Olsons, those guys. Yeah, Jack Snow
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: as receiver, even when they had Joe. Joe Willie was
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: out there. Name it for a year, a couple years.
- 1:13:39Speaker 3: I only go to Jim Everett, Flipper Anderson, and Henry Ellard, maybe.
- 1:13:43Speaker 3: That's about my Cleveland Gary. Those are about my early years.
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:13:48Speaker 3: Lawrence McCutcheon. Not a Rams fan, but just knowing the
- 1:13:51Speaker 3: Rams as well, yeah.
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: No, I'm looking still for big things from them. College-wise,
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: who do you follow?
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: I'm a UofL guy. I mean, I went to Western
- 1:14:00Speaker 3: for a cup of coffee long enough to do one
- 1:14:03Speaker 3: semester and two girls I shouldn't have done, so I
- 1:14:07Speaker 3: came back there and got right into the workforce, so
- 1:14:10Speaker 3: I do like Western a little bit, and But it's
- 1:14:14Speaker 3: all UofL. Now, I have been– I don't– I've said
- 1:14:18Speaker 3: this before. I've been very honest about it. I do
- 1:14:21Speaker 3: hate everything Kentucky basketball. Like, you lose 29, 30, 40 games,
- 1:14:24Speaker 3: I will– it gives me wood. But now, football, I
- 1:14:27Speaker 3: never really, as I said, I grew up kind of
- 1:14:29Speaker 3: going to a lot of games. And I don't know.
- 1:14:33Speaker 3: Even as you've improved, and yes, you've beaten Louisville every
- 1:14:36Speaker 3: now and then on a blue moon, I still– you're
- 1:14:40Speaker 3: still kind of like, I don't know that little brother
- 1:14:43Speaker 3: is the steal a phrase. Maybe I got, I don't
- 1:14:45Speaker 3: take you. So like, like people like, I hate Kentucky football.
- 1:14:48Speaker 3: They knew he was like, I don't care. I mean,
- 1:14:50Speaker 3: I don't want to be Louisville, but I don't know.
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: I guess, like I said, when you spend your time
- 1:14:54Speaker 3: life growing up, watching the patheticness that was Bill Curry and, and, uh,
- 1:14:59Speaker 3: and even, you know, Joker Phillips to a lesser degree.
- 1:15:01Speaker 3: And in some cases, uh, It's hard to hate, right?
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: I mean, it's like, oh, I don't want Steve Carell
- 1:15:09Speaker 3: to get laid in a 40-year-old virgin. Screw that. He
- 1:15:12Speaker 3: needs to be 60 and not seen Pootang. I mean,
- 1:15:15Speaker 3: I don't know. That's just mean, right?
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: In a way, I can understand. But on the other hand,
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: being a UofL fan, I also understand that there's still
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: that little brother complex. coming out in you. You can't
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: hate your big brother, no matter how bad they are. No,
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: it extends all sports. Speaking of which, before people start
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: adding me, I am nothing against Steven Peake. I love
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: Steven Peake. In fact, Steven Peake has a 60-year-old mind
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: inside that 30-year-old body. His passion for Kentucky basketball is unparalleled.
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: I can't wait for if Kentucky basketball poofs the bed
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: this year, to hear the conversations between you and him
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: about that.
- 1:16:00Speaker 3: So you're saying I shouldn't have texted him and said
- 1:16:02Speaker 3: the host, the fill-in host for Michael, John, said that
- 1:16:07Speaker 3: you need to shut the bleep up and not talk
- 1:16:10Speaker 3: as much? Was I premature with sending that text?
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: Probably a little bit. Or now that I know that
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: you sent it, I'm trying to kind of double down
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: a little bit.
- 1:16:20Speaker 3: I would double down. Don't back away. Tell Steve this.
- 1:16:24Speaker 3: He'll seem to keep his shirt on in the crowd
- 1:16:25Speaker 3: and the book out of his nose.
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: We know his passion. We understand his passion. He just
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: needs to be a little bit less verbose in being
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: able to lord it over everybody else, like Trevor, who
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: doesn't really understand from that standpoint.
- 1:16:41Speaker 3: Plus, I'm not going to be nice to Steve. He's
- 1:16:43Speaker 3: going out to Salceritas today, where John Spears will be
- 1:16:46Speaker 3: with Scoots is why he had to leave a little
- 1:16:48Speaker 3: early today. They'll be at Salceritas from 10 to 11
- 1:16:50Speaker 3: now in Hurstburn Lane. And then KRC will be out
- 1:16:53Speaker 3: there from 12 to 2. So I can't be nice.
- 1:16:56Speaker 3: They're all getting to eat Salseritas. Now, while I do
- 1:16:59Speaker 3: get to hang out with you for an hour, not
- 1:17:01Speaker 3: that that isn't awesome, it's no offense, not as awesome
- 1:17:05Speaker 3: as those chips they got at Salseritas.
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: It's a consolation prize.
- 1:17:09Speaker 3: I'm a fat guy. You know I'm picking food over people.
- 1:17:11Speaker 3: Come on. Speaking of text, the Game Day Men's text line, 414-1450,
- 1:17:17Speaker 3: I didn't know if you had access to this or not.
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: I do not. Okay. I do not. So I'm counting
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: on you to read all of these to me or
- 1:17:24Speaker 2: to use your discretion and reading the ones that you
- 1:17:26Speaker 2: think are appropriate.
- 1:17:27Speaker 3: You're asking me to read. I obviously don't know my
- 1:17:30Speaker 3: public education background, but let's go here. Did you, you
- 1:17:34Speaker 3: went to high school here locally, I assume, right? Or
- 1:17:36Speaker 3: you said you moved here.
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: I went to Lexington in Lexington. I was a Tate's
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: Creek class of 76 graduate.
- 1:17:42Speaker 3: My uncle was Tate's Creek. I think that's the same class.
- 1:17:45Speaker 3: Do you know Bill Baston?
- 1:17:48Speaker 2: I know the name. I actually graduated a year early,
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: so technically I was in the year behind them. I
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: was one of these guys.
- 1:17:57Speaker 3: He wasn't graduating a year early.
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: But I'm sure we crossed paths.
- 1:18:02Speaker 3: He might have been lucky to graduate at all.
- 1:18:04Speaker 2: No, our official 76 class just had our official reunion
- 1:18:09Speaker 2: this past August.
- 1:18:10Speaker 3: 50-year reunion. I can't remember the exact year.
- 1:18:14Speaker 2: That went well.
- 1:18:14Speaker 3: I know he went to Tate's Creek. Maybe he did
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: go to Henry Clay. I always get those two mixed up.
- 1:18:19Speaker 3: But I know he's around that time because I know
- 1:18:22Speaker 3: he was at UK when Mel Turpin was there. He
- 1:18:25Speaker 3: used to tell me the stories growing up about how
- 1:18:27Speaker 3: they used to tease freshmen in his fraternity that if
- 1:18:30Speaker 3: you get too close to Mel during lunchtime, you could disappear. Yeah.
- 1:18:34Speaker 3: But that text line, excuse me, I digress, making fun
- 1:18:36Speaker 3: of fat jokes at Mel Turpin's expense.
- 1:18:38Speaker 2: R.I.P.
- 1:18:40Speaker 3: Uh, Texter says, Michael, we're going to UK Saturday for
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: my nephew's family weekend. Well, shouldn't you be watching? Oh,
- 1:18:46Speaker 3: it's South Alabama. You can miss the game. Uh, any
- 1:18:48Speaker 3: places you recommend for daycare? Well, Michael's not here. Uh,
- 1:18:51Speaker 3: not really looking for a steak or bougie restaurant. Mr.
- 1:18:55Speaker 3: Fancy pants. I'm gonna leave this one to you because
- 1:18:58Speaker 3: my expertise was going to the parkette after UK game
- 1:19:01Speaker 3: and getting a poor boy sandwich and the parkette closed.
- 1:19:04Speaker 3: I heard about 10 years ago. So, uh, I don't
- 1:19:07Speaker 3: know where to send them. Do you have any suggestions?
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: If you're looking for kind of upscale, high class, it's
- 1:19:14Speaker 2: always Jeff Ruby's. It's Tony's downtown. It's all those, but
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: you're not going to be able to get in. I'm
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: sure reservation-wise, they're all full on a football Saturday. So, yeah, yeah,
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: I would think something like Chick-fil-A or maybe– You know,
- 1:19:33Speaker 2: a little Ramsey's diner might be along your lines. Plus,
- 1:19:36Speaker 2: you're there for football, right? You can get food at
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: the concession stands now for supposedly very reduced prices and
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: fees right now.
- 1:19:45Speaker 3: Plus, we're talking nephew. For nephew, you can just go
- 1:19:47Speaker 3: through drive-thru. It's not like a drill.
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: Yeah, no big deal.
- 1:19:50Speaker 3: Make your brother or sister pay for it. It's her kid.
- 1:19:53Speaker 3: Text her up. It says, I don't know this text,
- 1:19:56Speaker 3: but his name is in here, so I'll go identify him.
- 1:19:59Speaker 3: 48 Handley. Don't get the reference, but that's okay. Says,
- 1:20:02Speaker 3: I'm 100% behind the owner of the Colts being on
- 1:20:05Speaker 3: the sideline. The more the owners know about each facet
- 1:20:08Speaker 3: of the game enhances her ability to decide who to
- 1:20:11Speaker 3: hire or who needs to be replaced. That's not performing well.
- 1:20:14Speaker 3: It's not as if she's interrupting them during the course
- 1:20:17Speaker 3: of the game. It all points to wanting to put
- 1:20:19Speaker 3: a good product on the field. Well, if she wanted
- 1:20:21Speaker 3: a good product on the field, they wouldn't have started
- 1:20:23Speaker 3: Daniel Jones. Okay, that's right there. I mean, I get
- 1:20:27Speaker 3: where the texture is. I agree with the texture. Yeah,
- 1:20:30Speaker 3: that works if the owner knows what they're talking about.
- 1:20:33Speaker 3: As someone who is a fan of the Bengals and
- 1:20:36Speaker 3: Mike Brown, who I don't know if you've ever had
- 1:20:39Speaker 3: to chant at a Bengals game if his name is Brown,
- 1:20:42Speaker 3: flush it down. or if you like my other buddies
- 1:20:45Speaker 3: of diehard Bengals fan has ever pointed out that Mike
- 1:20:48Speaker 3: Brown looks a lot like the mailman. It's not owners
- 1:20:54Speaker 3: just because owners are hand on, don't mean they know
- 1:20:55Speaker 3: what they're doing. Right.
- 1:20:58Speaker 2: There's also the financial aspect that's involved in, in all
- 1:21:01Speaker 2: of this. And sometimes with the Bengals, especially more so
- 1:21:05Speaker 2: with the reds, a lot of times I think that
- 1:21:08Speaker 2: those owners are just happy to be there, that they
- 1:21:11Speaker 2: were going to just go ahead and get their paycheck and,
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: Competition really means nothing to them. This window of opportunity
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: for Cincinnati is really shrinking right now. If they don't
- 1:21:22Speaker 2: get it done this year, if Joe Burrow goes down,
- 1:21:25Speaker 2: or for whatever reason, he ends up not playing almost
- 1:21:28Speaker 2: all the remaining ballgames, then I think this is over.
- 1:21:32Speaker 2: It's back. We're going to be pining for the days
- 1:21:36Speaker 2: of Marvin Lewis again when just getting into the playoffs
- 1:21:39Speaker 2: was probably good enough. That's the reality. Hey, I think
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: we're due for our final break. That was my challenge
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: this time, to hit these breaks. Okay, I missed it
- 1:21:51Speaker 2: by a few minutes here and there, but hey, I
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: got them in. Pay the bills. We'll see you on
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: the other side. Final segment coming up. One of the
- 1:22:05Speaker 2: best-kept secrets in the entire bourbon industry is Whiskey Thief
- 1:22:08Speaker 2: Distilling Company's Small Batch Single Barrel Bourbon.
- 1:22:11Speaker 3: No better tomorrow.
- 1:22:31Speaker 2: Welcome back. This is Dr. John Huang filling in for
- 1:22:34Speaker 2: Michael Bennett. This is Friday and we want to make
- 1:22:38Speaker 2: sure we finish this off and head into the weekend
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: on a very positive note. So I'm flying the plane.
- 1:22:45Speaker 2: It's still flying, but I've got Trevor beside me and
- 1:22:48Speaker 2: this has been fun so far. I don't know why
- 1:22:51Speaker 2: I sound so surprised, but I came into this with
- 1:22:54Speaker 2: a little bit of trepidation. You have made it very,
- 1:22:57Speaker 2: very easy for me. Plus the listeners have also come through.
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: They've been texting in. I understand we've got a couple
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: more texts that you can read to me, and we
- 1:23:05Speaker 2: can see if we can answer. Knock these things out.
- 1:23:07Speaker 3: We can, and you had every reason to be scared.
- 1:23:11Speaker 3: I'm going to use the lesser fancy word, the scared version. Yeah,
- 1:23:15Speaker 3: I would be worried, too, if I looked at my profile.
- 1:23:17Speaker 3: I'm like, I've got to do this with that dude? Oh, Lord.
- 1:23:20Speaker 3: Let's see here. Text line 414. 1450 is the game
- 1:23:24Speaker 3: day men's health text line defining new era in men's health. Dr.
- 1:23:29Speaker 3: Wong doesn't need that. He's good to go. Strong like bull.
- 1:23:32Speaker 3: Game Day Men's Health delivers real results for people like me.
- 1:23:35Speaker 3: No shortcuts. Testosterone replacement. Weight loss. Could use that. Peptides, vitamins,
- 1:23:40Speaker 3: and sexual performance therapy. Not the therapy problem. I just
- 1:23:43Speaker 3: need someone to do it with. Give them all a
- 1:23:45Speaker 3: call at Game Day Men's Health. They won't help you
- 1:23:47Speaker 3: with the person, though, but they can help you with
- 1:23:49Speaker 3: the performance you have with that person. All right. Texter says,
- 1:23:54Speaker 3: I don't know if you've read any of these or not.
- 1:23:58Speaker 3: It says, my mom, she was the doctor, actually oversaw
- 1:24:01Speaker 3: the older Ursae when he was in the hospital. Now,
- 1:24:04Speaker 3: when he says older, I don't know if he meant Jim.
- 1:24:06Speaker 3: What was Jim's dad's name? I forget. Was it like
- 1:24:10Speaker 3: Bob or D-Bag or something like that? I can't remember.
- 1:24:14Speaker 3: The one that stole the Colts out of Baltimore while
- 1:24:18Speaker 3: his kid was popping pills and being a nepotism baby.
- 1:24:24Speaker 3: You would think I'm a Colts fan, wouldn't you?
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: I would think there's some deep-seated either insecurities or just
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: clouds hanging over your head that you've been unable to
- 1:24:36Speaker 2: shake over the course of the years.
- 1:24:38Speaker 3: I don't know why the Earthsays bug me. I don't
- 1:24:41Speaker 3: have nothing against the Colts. They hurt you in a way.
- 1:24:44Speaker 3: I don't root against them. I hate the Cowboys.
- 1:24:48Speaker 2: We have something in common now, for sure.
- 1:24:51Speaker 3: I despise them. One of my first games I ever
- 1:24:55Speaker 3: went to in Philly was It was actually, sadly, Mark Sanchez,
- 1:24:59Speaker 3: I think, was our starting quarterback that week.
- 1:25:02Speaker 2: Was there a butt fumble, right?
- 1:25:03Speaker 3: Yeah, I know. Pretty much described our season, too. And
- 1:25:06Speaker 3: I just remember we lost the game to Miami. Primarily,
- 1:25:10Speaker 3: I remember because I went with my buddy, John Renshaw,
- 1:25:12Speaker 3: who ended up stealing beers and running away, and it
- 1:25:14Speaker 3: took me three hours to find him afterwards. But there's
- 1:25:18Speaker 3: a bar called Infinity, I believe it is, right next
- 1:25:21Speaker 3: to the Eagles where they play their home games. It's
- 1:25:23Speaker 3: a sports complex similar to Kansas City, if you've ever
- 1:25:26Speaker 3: been there. where, like, every stadium is, like, all within, like,
- 1:25:29Speaker 3: the parking lot of each other. And so I go
- 1:25:32Speaker 3: in there, and this place is packed. And I'm kind
- 1:25:33Speaker 3: of pissed because we just lost to the Dolphins, but
- 1:25:35Speaker 3: it's been a bad year. And I just remember I
- 1:25:37Speaker 3: get the guy on, the DJ or whatever. He's like, yeah,
- 1:25:40Speaker 3: it sucked today, but all in all, it's not a
- 1:25:43Speaker 3: bad day because Dallas got beat. And then just the
- 1:25:46Speaker 3: whole place just goes for, like, for 10 minutes, Dallas sucks, Chance.
- 1:25:50Speaker 3: I mean, I guess that's, you know, they probably are
- 1:25:54Speaker 3: my most hated team in all sports, being the Cowboys,
- 1:25:57Speaker 3: other than maybe Kentucky basketball. But, yeah, I don't know.
- 1:26:01Speaker 3: I shouldn't hate the Colts. I don't. I just– Ursae
- 1:26:03Speaker 3: annoys me.
- 1:26:04Speaker 2: Yeah, the Colts, they're pretty vanilla. I can't think of
- 1:26:09Speaker 2: anybody who has the Colts circled on their calendar and
- 1:26:12Speaker 2: targeted as the team to beat. They're just– Kind of
- 1:26:15Speaker 2: their filler material.
- 1:26:17Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, who's their biggest rival? I mean, I
- 1:26:19Speaker 3: guess the Patriots are a rival, but do the Patriots
- 1:26:22Speaker 3: even really care? I mean, they haven't been playing the
- 1:26:24Speaker 3: same division in, what, almost 10 years or something.
- 1:26:28Speaker 2: Yeah, nobody cares. It sounds like you've been around a
- 1:26:30Speaker 2: few of these stadiums. Which has been your favorite? What's
- 1:26:33Speaker 2: been your favorite environment-wise?
- 1:26:36Speaker 3: Football-wise, I mean, I saw the Eagles play probably four
- 1:26:39Speaker 3: or five times in different cities before I got to
- 1:26:41Speaker 3: see them in Philly.
- 1:26:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:26:44Speaker 3: I mean, Minnesota's was awesome with the Super Bowl, but
- 1:26:47Speaker 3: that also has an atmosphere involved.
- 1:26:49Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:26:50Speaker 3: I was at the first ever game at Paul Brown
- 1:26:52Speaker 3: Stadium against the Browns. Ron Dugan scored the first touchdown.
- 1:26:56Speaker 3: And then I got really hammered and don't remember the
- 1:26:59Speaker 3: rest of the game. So, but the– I don't know.
- 1:27:03Speaker 3: I mean, that's a good question. There are so many–
- 1:27:05Speaker 3: I would have to think the one that made me
- 1:27:07Speaker 3: walk the least, but– I don't know. I mean, do
- 1:27:11Speaker 3: you have one in your mind?
- 1:27:12Speaker 2: Yeah, probably a couple stand out in terms of atmosphere.
- 1:27:16Speaker 2: Of course, AT & T Stadium with the Cowboys. I
- 1:27:19Speaker 2: hate to say it, but they put on a pretty
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: good show.
- 1:27:22Speaker 3: Never got to go there.
- 1:27:23Speaker 2: You would love this, though. From the media buffet standpoint,
- 1:27:27Speaker 2: they had it all. Lobster mac and cheese. They had
- 1:27:30Speaker 2: the candy bars out there for you to take and grab.
- 1:27:33Speaker 2: It was fantastic.
- 1:27:34Speaker 3: That's one thing we're lovable for. texas hospitality that's one
- 1:27:38Speaker 3: thing louisville has always dominated kentucky and is the.
- 1:27:40Speaker 2: Media yeah i i i succumb to that there was
- 1:27:44Speaker 2: always look forward to the louisville.
- 1:27:45Speaker 3: Media yes kentucky gives you like a voucher to go
- 1:27:49Speaker 3: buy your own food louisville has a buffet and it's
- 1:27:52Speaker 3: usually football or basketball it's usually really good so.
- 1:27:56Speaker 2: Yeah that's that's worth the price of admission alone of
- 1:27:58Speaker 2: coming into the media area the other place was kansas
- 1:28:01Speaker 2: city you know those chiefs fans They know how to
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: tailgate and it's set up. I think they're building a
- 1:28:07Speaker 2: new stadium. I hope they keep a lot of the
- 1:28:10Speaker 2: same areas the same because that tailgating was immense. You
- 1:28:14Speaker 2: get on top of the stadium and you look out.
- 1:28:17Speaker 2: That is 360 degrees of parking lot just going as
- 1:28:20Speaker 2: far as the eye can see in every direction. So
- 1:28:23Speaker 2: from the standpoint of environment and being able to tailgate
- 1:28:26Speaker 2: and party, fantastic. I haven't been up to Buffalo. I
- 1:28:30Speaker 2: understand Bill's Mafia also will give you a run for
- 1:28:33Speaker 2: your money from that standpoint.
- 1:28:34Speaker 3: I've been to Buffalo, never a Bill's game. I've been
- 1:28:36Speaker 3: to the Chiefs. I love them. you can appreciate showing
- 1:28:41Speaker 3: the age. We can start naming stadiums we've been to
- 1:28:44Speaker 3: that no longer exist, which I've been to the Kingdome.
- 1:28:48Speaker 3: I've been to the Silverdome. I got to go to
- 1:28:50Speaker 3: both those. I guess Alamo Dome still is around, isn't it?
- 1:28:53Speaker 3: They just don't use it, I guess.
- 1:28:55Speaker 2: Yeah, you are pretty ancient.
- 1:28:57Speaker 3: Yeah, well.
- 1:28:58Speaker 2: I'll give you that.
- 1:28:59Speaker 3: I mean, that was probably one of my, you bring
- 1:29:00Speaker 3: up favorite events, seeing the Lions in 93. I still
- 1:29:04Speaker 3: just remember the game vividly. Barry didn't do much, but
- 1:29:08Speaker 3: Mel Gray had two kick returns for touchdowns, and Rick
- 1:29:10Speaker 3: Myers sucked. And the Lions won 30 to 10. And
- 1:29:15Speaker 3: I got a Jerry Ball t-shirt, which a lot of
- 1:29:16Speaker 3: people don't remember Jerry Ball, but you might. He was
- 1:29:19Speaker 3: like six foot, 400 pound, deep nose tackle. He's played
- 1:29:22Speaker 3: for the Lions. Who's your favorite? So who's your favorite
- 1:29:26Speaker 3: Bengal then?
- 1:29:29Speaker 2: Oh, I would.
- 1:29:31Speaker 3: You got to go. I'm assuming you were, I mean,
- 1:29:33Speaker 3: you're born in 67. So you were around Ken Anderson.
- 1:29:36Speaker 2: Here's a true confession. I follow the Bengals because they
- 1:29:41Speaker 2: were kind of close, but it wasn't like I really
- 1:29:45Speaker 2: had the passion for them. you know, if they lost,
- 1:29:48Speaker 2: it's not like UK where I'd be depressed for the
- 1:29:50Speaker 2: next three weeks. It was okay. Let's move on to
- 1:29:53Speaker 2: the next game, right? So it was okay. And then
- 1:29:58Speaker 2: when I started covering them, of course, anytime that you
- 1:30:01Speaker 2: do cover a team, you develop a little bit more
- 1:30:03Speaker 2: of an affinity for them and you want them to
- 1:30:07Speaker 2: do well for your own benefit because winning means more
- 1:30:10Speaker 2: readership and more people will follow you and so forth.
- 1:30:13Speaker 2: But I never really truly had a bangle that I
- 1:30:17Speaker 2: just kind of loved. I never had any posters on
- 1:30:20Speaker 2: the wall of any Cincinnati bangles when I was younger.
- 1:30:24Speaker 2: I was a Ram fan. Ram fan. No, no, the
- 1:30:27Speaker 2: icky shuffle I thought was a little bit hokey. No
- 1:30:31Speaker 2: big thing. Yeah, I can do without it.
- 1:30:33Speaker 3: And the Rams were good. I mean, Super Bowl in 79,
- 1:30:35Speaker 3: which had been, but you were 12. It's a prime
- 1:30:38Speaker 3: bandwagon age. They were good. I guess older than 12,
- 1:30:41Speaker 3: you graduate at 76, you said. So, yeah.
- 1:30:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I remember the Vince Ferragamo days. And, yeah, Lawrence McCutcheon.
- 1:30:49Speaker 2: You know, all those guys.
- 1:30:50Speaker 3: Some would say he was a one handsome man. One
- 1:30:53Speaker 3: last thing, Justin, says, teams with bad. Let me go
- 1:30:57Speaker 3: back a little bit because I don't know if you
- 1:30:59Speaker 3: got all these. How does Dr. Wong feel about Steve Martin,
- 1:31:02Speaker 3: dentist character in Little Shop of Horrors? And did gas
- 1:31:06Speaker 3: really help? Take the edge off. Personally, I'm glad you
- 1:31:09Speaker 3: didn't follow in the footsteps of another former dentist, Doc Holliday,
- 1:31:12Speaker 3: and become a gunslinger. Doc Holliday, also the name of
- 1:31:16Speaker 3: a former Marshall coach who was pretty damn good back
- 1:31:18Speaker 3: not too long ago.
- 1:31:20Speaker 2: I think dentists, they've gotten a horrible, horrible rap.
- 1:31:25Speaker 3: Over the course of years, this guy's older than me.
- 1:31:27Speaker 3: Like who, I mean, I don't know. Is there anyone
- 1:31:31Speaker 3: I would love to see a scoochle steer? I would
- 1:31:33Speaker 3: ask him. Like, does he even know what, if I
- 1:31:36Speaker 3: make the reference, they must seem all famous. Like you
- 1:31:39Speaker 3: wouldn't even know what that means. Like anyone under 30
- 1:31:41Speaker 3: knows what that reference is.
- 1:31:44Speaker 2: That's probably similar to the marathon man. Right. When I
- 1:31:48Speaker 2: say marathon man, anybody who is over 50 years of
- 1:31:51Speaker 2: age right now, kind of winces and grimaces. They see
- 1:31:55Speaker 2: a drill right through the central incisor of somebody. That
- 1:31:59Speaker 2: is painful, but that's probably also one of the reasons
- 1:32:03Speaker 2: why I went into orthodontics. Okay. Yeah. I'm not going
- 1:32:06Speaker 2: to drill fill and then do root canals and pull
- 1:32:09Speaker 2: wisdom teeth. No, let me go ahead and treat patients
- 1:32:13Speaker 2: who are not going to be hurting. Well, You know,
- 1:32:16Speaker 2: they'll get a little bit sore after I tighten up
- 1:32:18Speaker 2: their wires. But by and large, being an orthodontist, people
- 1:32:21Speaker 2: want to come see you. They want beautiful smiles. You're there.
- 1:32:25Speaker 2: You're shaking hands. You're kissing babies. You let your assistants
- 1:32:28Speaker 2: do all the work. That's the kind of specialty that
- 1:32:31Speaker 2: I wanted to get into. And I did.
- 1:32:33Speaker 3: I have to ask you, I don't know where your
- 1:32:36Speaker 3: pop culture references lay. I'm a giant Seinfeld guy.
- 1:32:40Speaker 2: I love Seinfeld.
- 1:32:41Speaker 3: Okay, so I have to ask, have you ever had
- 1:32:44Speaker 3: penthouses in your lobby like Dr. Whatley? No. Did you ever,
- 1:32:50Speaker 3: air quote, swap assistants with other dentists?
- 1:32:55Speaker 2: I never did that.
- 1:32:56Speaker 3: Did a patient ever wake up wondering, was I tucked
- 1:32:59Speaker 3: or untucked? I don't remember.
- 1:33:01Speaker 2: Oh, boy, these are fantastic, man. I am super, super impressed.
- 1:33:05Speaker 3: You ever take a hit of that gas and go,
- 1:33:07Speaker 3: that's the stuff, and then hand it to the guys?
- 1:33:11Speaker 2: Listen, anytime Michael wants to come, you know, to heck
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: with Justin. I'll just go ahead and politely ask him
- 1:33:17Speaker 2: to step aside. You know, I've got Trevor now.
- 1:33:20Speaker 3: Fortunately, me waking up that early is a lot easier
- 1:33:23Speaker 3: said than done. I'm not a morning guy.
- 1:33:25Speaker 2: No, you guys are great. Once again, not kissing up
- 1:33:30Speaker 2: to you, but you have made it very, very easy
- 1:33:32Speaker 2: for me during this time. Anytime Michael needs me to sub,
- 1:33:37Speaker 2: If the listeners will allow, I'd be more than happy
- 1:33:40Speaker 2: to jump in here. I'll be here on Monday. You know,
- 1:33:43Speaker 2: feel free to kind of jump in.
- 1:33:44Speaker 3: Come on in. I got an appointment Monday morning. If
- 1:33:47Speaker 3: I get done or leave, maybe I'll swing. We did
- 1:33:49Speaker 3: one other text. It says teens with bad owners.
- 1:33:52Speaker 2: Got it.
- 1:33:53Speaker 3: We've got like two minutes. I don't think I can
- 1:33:54Speaker 3: read this text. There's a lot of bad owners, Texter.
- 1:33:57Speaker 3: Does he give a list? He only gives two, though, examples.
- 1:34:00Speaker 3: The A's, I mean, as he says, I mean, they
- 1:34:03Speaker 3: don't even have a city at the moment. They are
- 1:34:06Speaker 3: pretty bad. The A's are bad. I don't even know
- 1:34:09Speaker 3: who owns the A's, to be honest with you. And
- 1:34:12Speaker 3: the Browns, which, yes, Haslam is a pathetic owner. Volume 2.
- 1:34:18Speaker 3: Head coach Chris Ballmer changed Tim Couch's– I love how
- 1:34:21Speaker 3: he's just, like, angry at the Browns because of, like,
- 1:34:23Speaker 3: 25 years ago. Apparently they ruined Tim Couch's career. If
- 1:34:27Speaker 3: you like someone enough to take the number one, maybe
- 1:34:30Speaker 3: you shouldn't try to screw with them. I don't know.
- 1:34:33Speaker 3: I mean, Tim Couch could have also maybe stayed off
- 1:34:36Speaker 3: the painkills too. Now, don't go disparaging Tim Couch now.
- 1:34:42Speaker 3: I got nothing against Timmy Couch. He was fine. I
- 1:34:45Speaker 3: had no problem.
- 1:34:47Speaker 2: Would you actually put him on the Mount Rushmore of
- 1:34:51Speaker 2: all-time UK greats? Not just football. I'm not talking football.
- 1:34:55Speaker 2: I'm talking UK sports figures. Would you put Tim Couch
- 1:34:58Speaker 2: up there? Is he top four?
- 1:35:00Speaker 3: I don't use Mount Rushmore term in sports. I don't
- 1:35:02Speaker 3: know why. It's always here to me. But you didn't
- 1:35:04Speaker 3: know that, so it's okay. But no. Of all sports, no. Football,
- 1:35:10Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, probably maybe. I don't even know if
- 1:35:12Speaker 3: I'd do it with football because the evolvement. over the
- 1:35:16Speaker 3: last 26 years with UK football has gotten better. I mean,
- 1:35:20Speaker 3: at the time, yes, he was probably the, at the
- 1:35:22Speaker 3: peak of the mountain right there with Dimitri Dawson or
- 1:35:25Speaker 3: George Blanda, maybe, or, you know, in those, those realms.
- 1:35:28Speaker 3: But yeah, I don't know if I'd put them there now. No,
- 1:35:31Speaker 3: I don't think I would.
- 1:35:33Speaker 2: Well, I'll, I'll, I'll leave it at this. I want
- 1:35:35Speaker 2: to hit my heart. Stop here.
- 1:35:36Speaker 3: It's top of the hour.
- 1:35:37Speaker 2: I want everybody to say, who would you put on
- 1:35:40Speaker 2: your Mount Rushmore since Trevor loves that term so much.
- 1:35:43Speaker 2: on all-time UK sports.
- 1:35:45Speaker 3: Me as a little man, Billy Gillespie's up there.
- 1:35:50Speaker 2: Is there a reverse Smout Rushmore? We'll go from that.
- 1:35:53Speaker 2: Thanks for listening in. This is Dr. John Long subbing
- 1:35:56Speaker 2: for Michael Bennett on Just the Cats. Thank you so much, Trevor.
- 1:36:00Speaker 2: We'll see you Monday.
