- 0:30Comfortable and get started Hi warriors.
- 0:32Hi healers.
- 0:33Welcome back to the podcast.
- 0:35If you're listening to this on the prepare patient podcast or watching this on my YouTube channel, welcome, welcome, welcome.
- 0:41Thank you so much for your support.
- 0:43I really appreciate all the comments we've been getting so far, all the likes, all the shares, this acknowledges power.
- 0:51So I just want to say just to start this episode.
- 0:54If you are new to any of my platforms, you've never seen me before, you don't know who I am.
- 0:59My name is Dr.
- 1:00Jennifer Genti.
- 1:01I am a functional medicine doctor and I help my patients identify the root causes of the digestive issues, whether it's gas, bloat, constipation, diarrhea, colitis, abdominal pain, acid reflux.
- 1:16Or the root causes of the hormonal imbalance, whether it's PMS symptoms, PMDD symptoms, menopausal symptoms, you know, irritability, mood swings, like the pain that we get, the anxiety that we get.
- 1:29I also help my patients identify the root causes of weight gain.
- 1:32so that they can not only function, but thrive in the body they were born in and created for.
- 1:40So if that sounds like you, if you have any of the symptoms, I would love to support you.
- 1:44But in today's episode, I'm going to talk to you guys about Symptoms.
- 1:49You probably, saw the title.
- 1:51You probably like, okay, what is this all about?
- 1:53This doctor's crazy, who wants to have symptoms and signs, It's painful, it's irritating, like we don't want any of that stuff.
- 2:00I want to invite you to have a different mindset when it comes to symptoms, your health symptoms.
- 2:07What are symptoms?
- 2:08Symptoms are a way of your body communicating with you.
- 2:12That's the way I view symptoms.
- 2:13So, and I'm referring to again, weight gain, hormonal imbalance symptoms, digestive symptoms, autoimmune symptoms, The hair loss symptoms, the headache symptoms, anxiety symptoms, mental illness symptoms.
- 2:26The overwhelmed and the burnt out, lack of motivation, the burn fog, The acne, the psoriasis, the fatigue, the, like all the symptoms that if you live in your body and you're not functioning the way you would love to, and you are feeling uneasy, that the sleep issues, that whatever that you are not loving right now, we're going to consider that as a symptoms.
- 2:49Now, signs of things that you can see.
- 2:51like acne is a sign, psoriasis is a sign, like your bloated stomach might be a sign, arthritis, with the stiffness, psoriatic arthritis might be a sign, but anything that you can see, you can put your hand on, you can look like a rash and hair loss, like if you see your, you know, alopecia, that's also a sign, So we have signs and symptoms.
- 3:11And when I speak to my patients, when they come to me and they come to me frustrated, they come to me like hopeless.
- 3:17And they just want to fix the problem right away.
- 3:19And I asked them, what are your symptoms?
- 3:21And they tell me a laundry list of symptoms.
- 3:23And I told them good.
- 3:24And they look at me like, what?
- 3:25I'm like, yeah, it is awesome that you have symptoms.
- 3:28That's a good thing.
- 3:28These are from God, you know, the higher power, whoever you believe in, that's where these things are coming from.
- 3:34And they look at me and be like, well, I don't know how you feel about this, Dr.
- 3:37J, but I don't want to have headaches.
- 3:39I don't want to have migraine.
- 3:40I don't want to be nauseous.
- 3:41I don't want to have, you know, bloated stomach looking like I'm pregnant.
- 3:44I want this weight off.
- 3:46I don't want to have pain.
- 3:47I don't want to be on medications.
- 3:49I don't want to experience side effects from medications.
- 3:51I want my high blood pressure to resolve.
- 3:53I want my diabetes to go away.
- 3:55My high cholesterol to literally get out of my body.
- 3:58I want all my lab values to be normal.
- 4:01And I understand that.
- 4:02And I have empathy for my patients.
- 4:04But.
- 4:04Your body is, it's like a communicator, So you don't know what you don't know.
- 4:09You don't see what you don't see.
- 4:10There has to be a way of your body telling you what is going on intracellularly inside of your body, inside of your cells.
- 4:18We see the physical aspect of your body, We see the external aspect.
- 4:21We can see that I have rash here, but if you don't have a rash, how are you going to know there's a severe inflammation?
- 4:27Your immune system is weak.
- 4:29You're holding on to water, wait.
- 4:32You need to detox, you got to have symptoms because that's how your body's gonna tell you what is happening.
- 4:38Intracellular.
- 4:39I tell my patients all of the time that this is, is a cellular process.
- 4:43Until you identify the root causes and you fix the issue at the cellular, cellular process, like cellular level, you always gonna be sick.
- 4:51And if you are in the conventional space and you believe that a pill gonna resolve like you and we ill, then I would love for you to reconsider, Taking a medication for more than a week, for more than two weeks, is really dangerous because you're actually numbing the communication system between yourself and your body.
- 5:11so let's use this scenario.
- 5:13I have headaches.
- 5:14I have headaches.
- 5:15I've had headaches for a long time.
- 5:16I don't know why I have headaches.
- 5:18I go to my doctor, neurologist, they give me medication for headaches, whether it's, propranolol or, you know, somatryptin medications, like whatever.
- 5:26I have headaches.
- 5:27So the first thing we're going to do, of course, we're going to go to the doctor.
- 5:30We might go to Walmart or pharmacy and take Tylenol.
- 5:33And when that doesn't work, because over time, when you first take a medication, your body's going to be like, okay, you're decreasing the stress on your body.
- 5:40And then after that, the headaches will come back.
- 5:41The minute you stop taking the pill, the headaches will come back.
- 5:44So we don't really pay attention.
- 5:47We don't really ask ourselves, we don't really investigate why you have the headache, I'm going to go to my neurologist, go to my primary care doctor and take a quick fix.
- 5:55Yes, you can do that because of course when you have headaches you want relief, you want relief now, so you're going to do whatever it takes to get relief.
- 6:01But we should always investigate because you having headache is telling you, your body is telling you something is off.
- 6:08So what I tell my patients to do, besides taking the medication, doing whatever else for relief, always go back and investigate.
- 6:14Do you have headache because of stress?
- 6:16If the answer is yes, but what's causing the stress?
- 6:18What is the stressors?
- 6:19Do you have headache because you are dehydrated?
- 6:21If the answer is yes, then can we get some more hydration?
- 6:24Do you have headache because of food sensitivities?
- 6:27Do you have headaches because you are, you know, eating food you're not supposed to, dairy, like you're lactose intolerant, and you're gluten intolerant, so you have celiac disease.
- 6:35Do you have headaches because you have leaky gut, because there's so much built up of toxins internally, so those toxins are creating a gap into your intestinal lining, and they seep into your bloodstream and travel into your head.
- 6:47So, us taking the medication, Just to numb the headache is not gonna fix the problem.
- 6:52The worst thing we can do if we don't listen to the symptoms, because again, I think symptoms is a great way of you paying attention to your health.
- 7:00Slow down in it, whatever you're doing, slow down in life, giving yourself some TLC,?
- 7:04Paying attention to say, okay, I didn't have this today and I have that now, How can I fix it?
- 7:09Who do I need to work with?
- 7:11What investigation I need to put in place to find out the reasons why I have the headaches, I have the gassiness, I'm bloated all the time, I'm sluggish all the time, I have, you know, foggy brain all the time.
- 7:22I have, you know, yeast, urinary tract infections all the time.
- 7:25I'm always getting a cold all the time, I'm always like seasonal allergies is not normal.
- 7:30So your body's literally communicating with us.
- 7:33I've seen patients come to my practice, literally ignoring the communication system, and then they ended up having a major issue more than they started with.
- 7:41And they ended up having cancer because your body's like a baby, When things are happening, your body does nothing.
- 7:47And then as the things are accumulating, toxins, inflammation, just stress, Accumulating, accumulating, then the baby start crying,?
- 7:56Because the baby's trying to get your attention.
- 7:59So symptoms and signs are gifts from God because that's the way of your body telling you that it needs some TLC.
- 8:06And I know life is busy, we all have jobs to go to, we have family to take care of, people to be present for, and we ignore the symptoms.
- 8:14That's how we lead to autoimmune, that's how we go to cancer, is the constant ignoring of the symptoms.
- 8:21Now, I know many of you guys that are watching this video, listening to the podcast, might actually not ignoring the symptoms, going to your doctors, doing all the blood tests, all the imaging, to be told that everything is normal.
- 8:32What I need you to do, I need you to really focus on a doctor that focuses on what causes.
- 8:37So when you speak to your doctor, you make your appointment, ask them, do you identify what causes?
- 8:43Do you focus on investigating the what causes?
- 8:45if the answer is yes, then do you have a plan to address a solution to address the root causes?
- 8:50Nothing happens by accident, You didn't wake up today to have a headache by accident.
- 8:54You didn't wake up today to have food sensitivity, have a rash by accident.
- 8:58Nothing happens by accident.
- 9:00And usually before you experience the symptoms, these things have been manifested.
- 9:05The inflammation has been there months before you actually feel it.
- 9:09The toxins have been accumulating months before it can actually come out to your pores.
- 9:13Or can make you, you know, clog your lymphatic system, The diabetes has been manifested before your doctor was able to diagnose you with high glucose, hemoglobin A1c, and insulin.
- 9:23So by the time you experience the symptoms, things have been happening in intracellularly, leading for you to feel the symptoms.
- 9:31Symptoms are not to be ignored.
- 9:33They are not to be numbed.
- 9:35They are not to be managed.
- 9:36You must eliminate your symptoms.
- 9:39There are so many solutions out there to help you with the symptoms and the signs, First, we identify the root causes.
- 9:46If you're in my world, you know, I'm a big believer of detoxification.
- 9:49You have to remove things that are there before you can replace with other things.
- 9:54And then you address inflammation, and then you boost your immune system.
- 9:57You fix the gut.
- 9:58If you have hormonal imbalance, once you identify those causes, you can see your progesterone, testosterone, estrogen, estradiol, your DHEA, your cortisol hormones, your thyroid hormones, your insulin hormones.
- 10:11Then you can literally put things into place to fix those hormones., so if one of those people that are looking for answers and have so many symptoms things you didn't have before and then you're working with a doctor that's not really focusing on addressing the symptoms or just giving you prescriptions, I'm telling you, you are on the path of having something serious and major down the road.
- 10:31Because your body will not stop sending you a signal, And then you can do trial and error, My blood pressure is elevated.
- 10:37I go to my doctor, I give him one medication.
- 10:39The medication doesn't work.
- 10:40Another medication.
- 10:41So that's trial and error.
- 10:43We can prevent trying an error by identifying the root causes, putting a plan in place to address the root causes, to address the symptoms, To eliminate the symptoms and then when you have a program that is actually working for you, I promise you, your symptoms will decrease naturally, Like no medication, we're not numbing the symptoms, you're actually fixing the problem at the cellular level, Always go deep into the cells, always, always, always, always address the cellular aspect of your health to really see the symptoms melt off of you.
- 11:13Symptoms are not normal.
- 11:15I agree.
- 11:15They are not normal, but it is a powerful way of your body communicating with you.
- 11:20It is the only way your body can get your attention.
- 11:23It is the only way your body can actually scream out loud and asking for help.
- 11:28And so many of you just don't get it.
- 11:30Put the symptoms to the side, and we keep moving, we keep going, we go, go, go, go, go, until life slows you down.
- 11:36What does that look like?
- 11:37It looks like you're going to the hospital, admitted to the hospital.
- 11:40You, it looks like you're having a terrible diagnosis that you don't want, you weren't expecting.
- 11:44So whether it's one tiny little, headaches you get once in a blue moon, you need to pay attention to that.
- 11:51Whether it's the bloat that you get intermittently, you need to pay attention to that.
- 11:56Whether it's the weight not falling off of you, you're trying all of the things.
- 11:59You need to pay attention, pay attention to that.
- 12:01What is the blood markers that are being done that is super elevate, not quite there elevation, but it's going up, Like when you look at the reference range, that's your body sending you all type of messages, all type of information, asking for help.
- 12:15Because at the end of the day, we don't have a microscope, We don't have a magnifying glasses to look to see what's happening internally.
- 12:21We depend on how we feel, to determine.
- 12:24What will be the next step, the next move for you?
- 12:27Now, when I wake up every day, me, I ask myself, how do I feel?
- 12:30So if I woke up one day and I'm sluggish, I must investigate why I'm sluggish.
- 12:35Did I not sleep the night before?
- 12:37Was my sleep interrupted?
- 12:39Did I eat something that I wasn't digesting properly?
- 12:41So there's always something.
- 12:43You always go back 24 hours.
- 12:45If I'm having anxiety, which I'm very anxious person, I ask myself, what's causing anxiety?
- 12:50What is happening or not happening?
- 12:52How can I fix it?
- 12:53And I always go within to get the answer.
- 12:56What did I do?
- 12:57What am I not doing?
- 12:58Like if I'm stressed out, why am I stressed out?
- 13:00I'm burnt out, overwhelmed.
- 13:01I have a DD and I'm all over the place.
- 13:03Why slow down?
- 13:05Listen to your body, embrace those symptoms for whatever they are, whatever they are, you know, telling us and just find your solution.
- 13:12so I'm not saying for you to like, you know, do nothing about the symptoms.
- 13:15I'm just asking you to use a negative and turn that into a positive to look at it a different way with a different mindset, a different lens.
- 13:24A different perspective and knowing that those things that are happening to you, the way you feel today, The same, the sounds you're seeing, the things that you're not loving about your health is your body communicating, asking you to make a change,?
- 13:36It's your body telling you something is off intracellularly.
- 13:40It's your body loving you, saving you, guiding you, protecting you., if you believe in God, God is always communicating with us, If you believe in a higher power, it depends on who you believe, but I believe in God.
- 13:50So I know for sure when I am on the go, not taking care of myself and not practicing self care and not slowing down and evaluate my health, it communicate with me.
- 13:58My back, I start having back pain, maybe have a little bird fog, like I know that I'm like, okay, all right.
- 14:04This is a way of me slowing down now before life slows me down later.
- 14:09So.
- 14:09What are your symptoms and what is your body telling you?
- 14:12That's the question I would love to ask yourself, If you have autoimmune, it's a weak immune system.
- 14:17Do you have silent dormant infection?
- 14:19Again, if your hormones are not balanced, right, you're going to pre, peri and postmenopausal.
- 14:24And the society is saying you should have low libido and feel like crappy.
- 14:28Is that true?
- 14:29How can you fix that problem?
- 14:30Always ask yourself, write down all your symptoms.
- 14:33Write it down.
- 14:34I know many of you guys are not going to do this, but I'm telling you, write it down.
- 14:36Write it down.
- 14:37If you can identify the answer of it, go back and say, okay, I was unblooded today.
- 14:42I ate this and I'm bloated.
- 14:43I didn't have the acid reflux until I ate this.
- 14:45So I have acid reflux all of the time.
- 14:47Change your lifestyle.
- 14:48Change your diet.
- 14:49Manage your stress.
- 14:50What can I do naturally to decrease the acid reflux?
- 14:53My diabetes is not resolving, the medication is not working.
- 14:57What can I do?
- 14:58What is my body telling me?
- 15:00And another thing too, another way that your body is guiding you when it comes to taking medication is you reacting to the medication.
- 15:08If you take a medication, you are reacting to it.
- 15:11Is your body telling you it doesn't want that chemical in you,?
- 15:13I know people that have taken like antibiotic and they do terrible with the antibiotic.
- 15:18I know people that have taken sleep medication and they have tons of side effects.
- 15:22I know people that have taken, you know, other medications that the body's literally telling them no, So the worst thing you can do is just take something to counteract what your body's telling you to decrease the side effects.
- 15:33or changing the medication altogether, but no, you need to really listen to your body.
- 15:39What is, what are the symptoms telling you?
- 15:41What are the sounds?
- 15:42What is it telling?
- 15:43Your body's telling you something.
- 15:45If you don't listen, we all, you're going to pay for it later on.
- 15:48All right.
- 15:48So when patients tell me I have symptoms, I tell them good.
- 15:52And they look at me like, okay, no, it's not good.
- 15:54I'm suffering.
- 15:55You're not.
- 15:55I'm like, well, it's communication.
- 15:57Let's just write it down.
- 15:58Let's investigate and let's fix it.
- 16:00Because if you don't have symptoms, you won't know what to fix.
- 16:02It's like, I feel, I don't feel crappy.
- 16:04How do I know what to fix?
- 16:06And the people that have no symptoms are too busy to actually evaluate and assess themselves.
- 16:11They have signs, they are like, you know, completely ignoring.
- 16:14Those are the people that wake up tomorrow or the next day with the terrible information.
- 16:19It's like, I had no stomach issue.
- 16:21I have a terrible stomach issue today.
- 16:23I went to the doctor, I found out I have stomach cancer.
- 16:25We don't want that.
- 16:26It's like, like, it's like, no.
- 16:28So thank you so much for watching this video.
- 16:30I would love for you to subscribe and share with all the people you think that could benefit from this.
- 16:35Because my goal is to really put out the information so that people know there are other options and how involved they should be in their own care and how they should partner up with the doctor.
- 16:46There's so many things you can do, The worst thing you can do is just, right.
- 16:49Do not, stay still, Just don't take ownership of your care.
- 16:52Don't, you know, just transfer everything about you to your doctor.
- 16:56That is the worst thing you can do.
- 16:57You need to be involved.
- 16:58You need to ask questions.
- 16:59You need to see what's working, what's not working.
- 17:01You literally need to be verbal as much as possible.
- 17:05All right, so if functional medicine is something you wanna, uh, you're interested in and you want to identify the root cause and you love everything that, I'm saying, everything's resonating with you because I do have a different outlook when it comes to medicine.
- 17:17I usually use all the things that people are telling me as a way to guide me in helping them.
- 17:23So I'm weird.
- 17:24I know.
- 17:25So if that's is that something you're interested in, just reach out.
- 17:28You know, you can schedule an appointment.
- 17:29You'll see the link below the phone number below.
- 17:31And I would love, love, love to help you and embark on this journey.
- 17:35if our first investment is just to identify what causes and then you can take the information.
- 17:39And, you know, do what you please with it, then that's what we're going to do.
- 17:43All right.
- 17:43Until then, you have a rest.
- 17:45You have a beautiful, day.
- 17:47And thank you for watching this video.
- 17:48Thank you for your support.
