- 0:27Hey everybody. Good morning.
- 0:29From the chicken coop Little secret about my kids.
- 0:32There's a statement that I use that they can't stand and that
- 0:36is you need to manage your state.
- 0:39My daughter used to hate that as a child and my son is no more
- 0:43fond of it now. And obviously it has a lot to do
- 0:48with being able to manage your emotions in a moment when you
- 0:51don't want to, and it's very hard whether you're.
- 0:56Seven, seventeen 47107. It's hard to manage your state
- 1:03when you are emotionally triggered by things, and it gets
- 1:08trickier sometimes the more emotionally tied you are to the
- 1:12subject, the situation, the person.
- 1:16Put it this way, there's nothing easy about managing your state
- 1:20now. Any of you who are regular
- 1:23listeners understand bus content stuff.
- 1:26Talking about who's driving your bus is the simplest, easiest,
- 1:30quickest way to be able to do it.
- 1:31Because when you figure out what Zach's actually going on, then
- 1:34you can figure out if you want to manage your state in a
- 1:37particular way or not. And sometimes, honestly, the
- 1:41best way that you can manage your state is to just shut your
- 1:44mouth. It's just not talking, it's just
- 1:47standing there and saying I'm not going to add 1 bit of energy
- 1:50to this. It's taking a very non reactive,
- 1:55non committal approach by just saying I will not give.
- 2:00My energy to this and you pull back and you stay silent because
- 2:04you know you've got a lot of energy to it.
- 2:07And if you pull that plug, even just a teeny weeny bit, it's
- 2:10going to explode out. Like, you know, when I was a kid
- 2:13they used to have this trick thing with snakes and a can and
- 2:15you pop the can lid and all the snakes would come popping out
- 2:18like that. jack-in-the-box. I never liked that toy.
- 2:21It always used to scare the heck out of me.
- 2:23But in any event, it's like that.
- 2:25And if you uncork it, it unleashes it all at once.
- 2:28Now some people will say and argue the point.
- 2:30That you're better off not holding in your emotions, but
- 2:34choosing not to engage with someone who's not going to
- 2:36listen anyway is not withholding your emotions.
- 2:40It's being smart. Withholding your emotions is
- 2:42denying that they're there. When you go off afterwards, you
- 2:45can write about it, talk to someone else about it, You can
- 2:49manage your emotions. But if I am mad at water for
- 2:52being wet, and I decide I'm going to just share with water
- 2:55how much it pisses me off that it's wet.
- 2:57No matter what I do, I freeze you.
- 2:59You still get wet. When I take you out of the
- 3:01faucet, you're wet and I just don't like the fact that you're
- 3:03wet. Am I going to get anywhere
- 3:05arguing with water about being wet?
- 3:08The answer is no, I'm not. I'm not even going to get close
- 3:10to getting anywhere with it. It's just simply going to piss
- 3:15me off even more. So the point is.
- 3:19If you know you are talking to someone who is impossible, not
- 3:23someone who's going to listen, not someone who's going to give
- 3:26you the respect and the time of day to actually engage with you
- 3:31and hear what you have to say, then there's no point in it.
- 3:35There's just no point in it. I think what's so incredibly.
- 3:41Irritating about the whole thing for most of us is that we just
- 3:45want to be heard. Everybody wants to be heard.
- 3:47Everybody wants to have their whatever they're saying to be
- 3:51important and be heard. Unfortunately, some people can't
- 3:55that even though their ears we, we know the doctors say, oh,
- 3:58they can hear you, they don't listen, they don't care to
- 4:01listen, They don't want to listen.
- 4:02So what's important is understand who you're talking
- 4:06to. Don't get mad at water for being
- 4:07wet. Don't go in and have
- 4:10conversations with someone who is just essentially going to
- 4:15just turn this around. Make it about you, push your
- 4:19buttons and do all that. Sometimes though, it is like you
- 4:24have to hit that release valve. Doing it with that person is not
- 4:27the way to go. Absolutely not the way to go.
- 4:30What you need to do is go back and write it all out.
- 4:34I mean, for me, you can do it in multiple ways.
- 4:36You can talk about it with other people, but sometimes.
- 4:39You don't want other people's opinions.
- 4:41You just want to say things that you can't say out loud.
- 4:43Say it on paper or a. A really good thing too is to
- 4:47just go record something. Record yourself talking about
- 4:52it. Record yourself sitting there
- 4:53and going This is a note to blank.
- 4:56I want you to know how much I dislike this, this, this, this,
- 4:59this, this, and this. Say the things that you need to
- 5:02say. Get it all out of your head.
- 5:04Get it out of your body. Get it out of your system.
- 5:06Be as angry as you need to get the get it out and verbalize it.
- 5:11For some people, that works better than anything.
- 5:14If you need to write it, you write it.
- 5:16You don't have to reread it, you don't have to listen to it.
- 5:18You just need to get it out so you feel like it's been heard by
- 5:22the universe, by God, by something, and then you can move
- 5:25on. But whatever you do, don't get
- 5:28mad at water for being wet. It is who it is.
- 5:31All right, my friends. I hope you have a blessed day
- 5:34and I hope this helps you and I will see you all tomorrow.
- 5:37Bye.
